Saturday practice, Giesseman new Warrior volunteer coach

After the last two days off, the Wahine had morning practice 8-10 in Gym I. They’re going again on Sunday 1-3 p.m. At the moment, no organized ESPNu watch party. That may change by tomorrow.

slipped my mind to put this up the other day after Josh Walker mentioned it.
Chad Giesseman announced as new Warrior volunteer coach.

Watching Penn St vs Minnesota ! Two AWESOME teams…Just pure skills, height and athleticism. Wow I wish we could recruit those type of athletes or even take away some of their backups as transfers…
    Oh well!!!

  2. Bleachercoach November 25, 2017 4:16 pm

Again the 1st set looks like a National Championship Final…Not a Flaw offensively and defensively for both teams. They both are Scary Awesome!!
Really makes alot of teams coming in the NCAA Tournament look mediocre. Go Bows!!!

  3. Warriorfan November 25, 2017 4:33 pm

Ohio State is out! wahine are getting a bid.

  4. Warriorfan November 25, 2017 4:40 pm

I sense a first round rematch against San Diego at Galen center.

  5. Robin November 25, 2017 6:40 pm

    UCLA beats USC 3-0.

  6. Bleachercoach November 25, 2017 6:54 pm

Just praying we go anywhere and play loose! IMO we have no pressure and no expectations. So what the heck, just have fun and let it rip!

  7. Bleachercoach November 25, 2017 6:57 pm

3…did u hear the announcers on the Big 10 Minnesota vs Penn St. match. They mentioned even though Ohio St lost today, they are a young improving team that will do well in the NCAA’s. Is that a plug or they know something before tomorrows announcement? (I wonder?)

  8. Cruisecontrol November 25, 2017 7:29 pm

    7. Wouldn’t be the first time announcers at a sporting event didn’t know what they were talking about.

  9. enjoy the game November 25, 2017 7:47 pm

No matter what happens sunday, I greatly appreciate all those that contribute to this blog. Thanks C.Luis for hosting and moderating etc..There is some great insight and love for the team noticed here and love all the analysis given. Read the blog everday..LOL
Do think the new coaches do will do well, and having a true middle coach will pay forward for the team..Great middle play opens the pins etc..so thanks to all and go sand bows..

    7. From the NCAA Pre-Champ Manual, a team must have an overall w/l record of .500 or better to be considered in the at-large process. Ohio St. is out.

After tonight, Hawaii’s RPI appears to be around 37. I think Hawaii is in. I don’t see their RPI getting jumped over by more than a few teams, and that keeps Hawaii fairly well north of the max scrutiny line, which I put at RPI 45 now.

My thought after Monday’s RPI was that Hawaii would be at USC
    just thinking regionally
but wouldn’t be surprised if they got shipped to Stanford or UW.
Much depends on availability to host. Schools have basketball conflicts this time of year, unless they can use a different arena as happened in Minnesota’s case last season
West region teams with Top 18 RPI (potential seeds) as of Monday
    5. Stanford. 8. Washington. 11 USC. 13 Utah. 18 BYU
If you like realtimeRPI, UH is at 37. MondayNCAA RPI the Wahine at 39

  13. Cindy Luis November 25, 2017 8:49 pm

    3. IMHO, Wahine didn’t need to be concerned about Ohio State
Several reliable sources with credible calculations concurred.

    As for the Buckeyes
    31) Illinois def. Ohio State 17-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-22, 15-13
OSU finishes 14-16 overall 8-12 in the Big Ten
    not eligible for tournament

  14. Bleachercoach November 25, 2017 9:43 pm

10 , 13. Thank you for that info.

  15. ManoaFan November 25, 2017 10:28 pm

Since this post has a bit to do with the Warrior Vollleyball team, I was just wondering if Tui is going to be a Senior or Junior? He is listed as a Senior, but he has only played two seasons of volleyball. 1 season at USC and 1 season at UH.

  16. vballfreak808 November 26, 2017 6:16 am

Updated brackets have Hawaii heading to Stanford and facing Michigan in Round One. This sounds about right but we know the last two seasons they have sent Hawaii across the country. We’ll see later today

  17. Optimist November 26, 2017 6:38 am

Very off the wall prediction for the Wahine’s road: Oregon, Minnesota, Creighton, Kentucky, Texas, Penn State.

  18. T103 November 26, 2017 8:44 am

Anyone know what time the brackets will be released?

  19. islandman November 26, 2017 8:59 am

4 pm HT on ESPNU .

  20. islandman November 26, 2017 9:20 am

UCSD is expected to announce that it has been accepted into the Big West. (from another blog).
So how long before they can start playing in the Big West ? There is a long transition period to full status.

  21. FitTrainer November 26, 2017 10:06 am

Was there a reason the team is not having a viewing “party”? I would think it is an important show that they are excited and appreciative Fir being selected (assuming they will be of course).

  22. FitTrainer November 26, 2017 10:09 am

Sorry, on my phone…”for having been selected”.

  23. noblesol November 26, 2017 11:36 am

    21. That they’ve been practicing this weekend is the finest show of appreciation, jmho

  24. Ki November 26, 2017 11:45 am

    21. Because it would be embarrassing to hold a viewing party if by some chance Hawaii DOES NOT make the tournament.

  25. setaone November 26, 2017 12:18 pm

A viewing party (if they weren’t selected) would be a great time for closing out the season as well.

I hope they make it in and #playforkalei!

  26. H-Man November 26, 2017 12:57 pm

They’re going to be selected. But then again, you can never underestimate the NCAA selection committee’s ability to twist things in order to cater to certain powerful conferences.

  27. FitTrainer November 26, 2017 12:58 pm

I think it is great that they are practicing this weekend as well! I am just curious why no viewing party? I have enjoyed seeing the team’s reaction in the past. It’s just another opportunity for the team to be seen as an elite program and would think it is good exposure for the team. I don’t think they publicize teams that are not selected.

  28. kahuna November 26, 2017 1:47 pm

Maybe Robyn would rather spend her time with family. I mean, its great for the fans to see the players re-act to their selection but other then being selected….what have you really done?

Its something everybody is doing…even those who know they will be selected. but that doesn’t mean UH have to be like everybody else.

Ah Mow is her own coach and does things her way. My guess is the if he girls want to get together and meet in the hospitality room to watch the selection, I guess they can. The arena is going to be open with the basketball tourney going on anyway so they can go if they want to.

  29. Cubicle No More ... November 26, 2017 2:42 pm

    happy belated thanksgiving everybody …

things look hopeful for the wahine on this selection sunday! hope they make it in, and play like they got nothing to lose … cuz really they don’t!

i kinda hope they get sent to LA in the 1st/2nd rounds, b/c i’ll be there for work this week 🙂 …

  30. roygbivs November 26, 2017 2:52 pm

I don’t think they get in, no quality wins this season, none vs Top-25 opposition, lose TWICE to CP-SLO, when they had the lead in both contests. If they had split, had a chance ….

Need to upgrade talent level, need players who can play, No mo time anymo to work on projects/develop players if you want to compete for National Championships.

  31. Bleachercoach November 26, 2017 3:50 pm

#29, #30….agree on both, but the Cal Poly’s addition of the Van Winden sister was a big factor this year for CP…I truly believe we need to upgrade talent level in almost every position, but we don’t possess the facilities and money that the Big Ten, Pac 12, and the Power Conference have to attract those type of athletes. We have to rely on a unhappy highly touted transfer from a great program or transform the type of athletes we do recruit. Until a Nikki Taylor or Emily Hartong comes along then we might have a slim chance just to advance in the NCAA’s Finals. Remember the Big 10 and Pac 12 have a couple of Nikki Taylor’s and Emily Hartong’s on each team every year. We will never out-recruit the Penn St and Stanford’s. The game has changed so much today. Before you were could match up with the taller , but unathletic girls. Today, OH/MB. range from 6’4″-6’8″ but are athletic like a 5’11” or 6’0″ from the past…. All I say is Hawaii still stands ALONE with Nebraska in Attendance and fan RECRUITS!!! Wouldn’t it be amazing if we could steal another Penn St girl like we did when Ali(?)Longo transferred
