VIDEO: UH basketball seniors went from ‘5-O’ to big roles

By Brian McInnis on March 1, 2019

It was the ultimate bit part. A few times a game in the 2015-16 season, the Hawaii reserves would execute a choreographed stunt at the end of the bench, usually to laugh-out-loud effect. The Superman. The Bowling Pins. The Home Run. The group became known as “Hawaii 5-O.” UH basketball’s three outgoing seniors, Jack Purchase, Brocke Stepteau and Sheriff Drammeh, count themselves as “5-O” alums. They play the final home game of their careers 8 p.m. Saturday against Cal State […]

By Brian McInnis on February 14, 2019

Most of the Valentine’s Day match between Hawaii and Cal Poly was a battle only a mother could love. A typical rock fight between the teams ensued basically right after tipoff Thursday night. But as has been the case in most of the Mustangs-Rainbow Warriors battles of late, the ‘Bows had more rocks in their satchel, resulting in a 75-54 Rainbow Warriors runaway. It was billed as the night that Jack Purchase would likely own the Hawaii career 3-point record […]
