Warriors try to weather challenges

OGDEN — Everybody keeps talking about the weather. The forecast for tomorrow’s game is miserable. Rain. Maybe sleet. The Warriors will do, ahem, a “dry” run with this afternoon’s walk-through at Romney Stadium.

* * * * *

It will be an interesting situation when Spencer Smith, out since the season opener after suffering a fractured forearm, is cleared to play within the next two weeks. Richard Torres has excelled as a safety. That means Smith either would be part of a rotation at safety or move to nickelback. It’s just as crowded there with John Hardy-Tuliau, and Lewis Walker, who has recovered from ailments. Walker has not played on defense the past two games, although he was used on special teams.

* * * * *

Expect defensive tackle Haku Correa to have an expanded role in this game. Correa actually was the No. 1 right tackle exiting spring training, but was replaced by Kaniela Tuipulotu.

* * * * *

There’s one tweak to special teams: Mana Lolotai moves to left back, replacing George Daily-Lyles. Lolotai, Jordan Monico and Jake Heun serve as the blocking line for Dustin Blount.

* * * * *

With the travel-roster limit and David Graves’ emergence on special teams, Shane Austin portrayed Utah State quarterback Diondre Borel in yesterday’s practice. Graves usually emulates the opposing quarterback in defensive drills.

I’m campaigning to all Warrior fans that will be attending the Boise game.

Support local business in Boise by purchasing a noise maker for the game.

    # 1 – Cowbell with drumstick

    # 2 – Duckcall

    # 3- Both # 1 an # 2

Make yourself sound like 10 fans and irritate the Broncs. It’s all legal at Bronco stadium

Together, the banging cowbell and duckcall produce the best decibals for your dollar

  17. PolyMom October 22, 2010 7:44 am

If there is going to be sleet and rain, let no one get injured.

Playing ball in sleet is very slippery. That is why my score

predictions were so low. Rain is one thing, sleet another.

Boys hold that ball and do not let it go!

    Good morning Hawaii!

I feel your complaints about the weather. I am in the same weather if not colder. Just wear more thermals than usual.

    ST–

Do you know if UH will be busting out the new, if any, under armour jackets?

  20. Michigan Warrior October 22, 2010 7:46 am

Mind over matter. We’ll be playing in it, but they will be too. Who wants it more?

We need to be rock solid on defense!

“… And that’s another Utah State… FOURTH DOWN!!!”

  21. BleedGreen808 October 22, 2010 7:46 am

The ball might be a little heavier than Mr. Moniz is used to. Hope he has been throwing the ball wet all week.

  22. mctruck October 22, 2010 7:51 am

Hope our Warriors brought the right kind of shoes for the sloppy weather??

O-what the heck!!!, play bare feet if have to……just joking.

  23. BleedGreen808 October 22, 2010 7:51 am

Richard Torres may be a little undersize at safety, but he is a gamer. He’s filled in well for Spencer Smith. As for Spencer Smith, hope the coaches can find a way for him to contribute whether at his old spot or on a rotation.

Mana Silva does a Josh Pacech imitation. I think they want Mana to call.

  38. bb October 22, 2010 8:16 am

What does Mana do? Continue talking about the NFL and the new head hunting rules before the day of his own game?

  39. Slugger October 22, 2010 8:16 am

Very important for the team to warm up and do their stretches before getting out in the cold. Hope they have good long coats/cloaks for the field.

  40. duffer October 22, 2010 8:18 am

    Who’s Josh Pacech?

    @Tommui

If a town had only one lawyer, he’d be broke. If that same town had two lawyers, they both would be very rich people.

  41. bb October 22, 2010 8:20 am

    Josh Pacheco.

Sub for Bobby on ESPN1420 when he is on the road trip.

I like his show at noon but its JV radio in the morning.

  42. Markazulu October 22, 2010 8:25 am

    Chris Ault statement

The anti-Pack sentiment in the WAC is a real thing. Hawaii football coach Greg McMackin let it slip after his Warriors beat the Pack last Saturday, telling the Hawaii media that beating the Pack was special because the Pack “doesn’t want to play with us anymore.” He also said the way the Pack (and Fresno State) left the WAC (almost overnight in late August) was not the right way to do it. “To the winner goes the spoils,” Pack coach Chris Ault said, when told of McMackin’s comments. Ault also told me he’d likely never play another game at Hawaii in his career. “That’s whether we won or lost,” he said.

  43. Pomai October 22, 2010 8:31 am

For all their crying(nevada) they lost. Ault won’t come back because not matter what he said about win or lose, he lost his whole time at reno when he came here, what a joke.

  44. hilorain October 22, 2010 8:32 am

  46. Ipu Man October 22, 2010 8:38 am

Luv ST’s Red Hot Warriors Welcoming The Cold article this morning:

Especially this excerpt: Good job ST.

Linebacker Jake Heun said he welcomes a drop in the thermometer.

“It sounds amazing,” Heun said. “All it means is when you hit people, they feel it more.”

    Heun was raised in Alaska.

“Our state championship is in October,” Heun said. “In early October it’s already 10, 15 degrees.”

Heun said Utah’s chill does not compare to Alaska’s weather, where the ground turns stone-cold hard.

“If you think about it,” Heun said of Alaska’s late-autumn weather, “it’s too cold to bury the dead.”

  47. Pomai October 22, 2010 8:38 am

Well I guess if no one is going to choose a place to watch the game, I guess I’ll head to Nancy’s

Some guy just called Josh Pacheco wanting to talk UH Football and Josh’s response was pretty much–“Get a hold of me when you have your own show.”

Sorry Big Island. I feel bad for you.

  52. Ipu Man October 22, 2010 8:46 am

Probably UH team glad to be in Utah now…

    I’m on a 1420 hater mission…

Callers that irritate me and make me switch to 1370:

**Sean who takes up 30 minutes of Artie’s show, wants to talk NBA and is on right now.

**Stan from downtown who calls almost daily (but will get off faster than Sean)

I call and take comments off the air. I shut up.

  60. Koa-mahu October 22, 2010 9:04 am

  63. Bulla October 22, 2010 9:07 am

It was nice having UH at Weber State practicing yesterday at the same time, gave the Hawaii boyz a chance to see each other in action, side by side. The Beast was happy to see some friendly faces, even our esteemed leader…….but i think that was before the ‘gambling experiment’ took place.

Stay Warm ST, Logan is no fun even when it is warm….

  64. muficrombie October 22, 2010 9:08 am

    I hear you BB

Sean is STILL on the phone. Note the time.

  65. Koa-mahu October 22, 2010 9:10 am

bb – hahah. LMAO. What about ‘Mike from Waimanalo’?

The Dan Patrick Show of 1370 is pretty good.

  66. al October 22, 2010 9:13 am

    bb…hahaha. too funny.

yah, that sean talks a great game doesn’t he. he is also first in line for the warrior fb postgame show w/robert n bobby. fact is, he never attends the games personally, so how can he observe all those things.

  67. Pomai October 22, 2010 9:13 am

  70. bb October 22, 2010 9:17 am

I can bear with Mike from Waimanalo.

He usually just has a single point, keeps it short and allows for Bobby Curran to comment. He does call often though but for some reason I can deal with daily calls from Mike then the stuff that Sean puts out.

  71. bb October 22, 2010 9:19 am

and you know what Sean says when he calls BC and Robert both last year and this year?

    “Winnah winnah chicken dinnah”

How old is that cliche? The guy just talks too much.

    Hmmmmm……..

  79. Ipu Man October 22, 2010 9:25 am

But bb, I agree with you completely about how disgusting

it is for 1420 NOT talking about UH football or even

    basketball, but rather mainland baseball,

NFL and NBA and occasionally Hockey…

I guess they are ordered to do that by their

ESPN bosses to promote their upcoming on air games.

    Good things I DO LIKE:

Scott Robbs. Good job on the VB games and his call the coach show. Whatever stuff Shoji cannot say Scott will say it. (Such as with recruiting). Anybody remember the Sports Bar?

Triple Threat Show. Its different then BC and the Animals. Big G’s call in for the recipe for the week is good stuff.

  83. Ipu Man October 22, 2010 9:32 am

  84. RupertDaStupert October 22, 2010 9:32 am

YaaaaaY! CBS given Five-O to finish out the season! I lived and died for the 1st Five-O. I gotten to like the new Five-O and live and die for it. It’s got excellent scripts. McGarrett now has got a lady friend. Danno now is lonely. Maybe cast Robert KeKaula as a fighting friend for Danno so he won’t be lonely. Robert is very bright, intuitive, and funny. Like the excellent Five-O scripts, the UH coaches have outlined a good game plan against the Aggies. With our magnificent 11 on offense and our manificent 11 on defense, how can we lose. Mighty Mo will lead the charge, with Salas and Pilares by his side. With Mana and Bryant, their stickdy hands and Paredas a roadblock can’t be stopped. We can’t have a war without a band. We got the band., we got Five-O, We got the Warriors, who needs more? Book em Macko, Rolo and Mighty Mouse!

  85. bb October 22, 2010 9:34 am

    Here’s a thought…

Let Djou do sports radio. All politics aside, the guy can talk and is smooth. He has his way with his words. He could convince me that going for the extra point was the right thing to do.

    i’d like that vs sean.

  92. A-House October 22, 2010 9:52 am

    Sleet:

ah, my first experience was at Ft Devens, MA.

Marching when sleeting is very difficult, uneven and slippery, especially with combat boots. Many take a spill on their okoles!

Marching on “black ice” is even worse! Talk about sore okoles! YIKES!!!

  93. A-House October 22, 2010 9:54 am

    Ipu Man:

there was an article in the paper which mentioned that both are in favor of bringing back the supa ferry – hope so, cause Hawaii can use it!

  94. gigi-hawaii October 22, 2010 9:55 am

You think sleet is bad, what about the crazy Super Bowl being played in the new stadium in New York in January??? Or is it in New Jersey? They spent millions on it, but they failed to install a roof over it.

  99. Michigan Warrior October 22, 2010 10:03 am

You know what I think is funny? During post-game with Robert Kekaula and Bobby Curran, when they go to the Fan Lines… lots of the guys that call don’t even sound excited, especially after a huge win. All monotone… “Eh, um, good win for da team. And um, Moniz and um Pilares and Salas was um, doing their thing. And um, defense was real good. So, um, yeah, good win.”

Bruddah, I mean, it might be 2:30am or later over here, but I am so amped up, and still laughing out loud at some of the remarks on some of the message boards, that I just cannot calm down to go to sleep!

Hate to see those guys when they not excited!!! Gotta keep poking them to make sure they still breathing.

  100. mctruck October 22, 2010 10:04 am

After UCLA got demolished last night in Oregon…..I can imagine why they don’t want to play Hawaii; it would be totally embarassing to get creamed by a non-automatic BCS team.

How does Texas and Nebreska still maintain being in the top twenty-five, nationally???…must be a lot of big twelve voters from the BIG 12.

  101. madeinhawaii October 22, 2010 10:07 am

My first Winter experience with snow was in New York City…. New York is fine in the winter.. it’s Central Park in early spring that will gas you.

  102. Michigan Warrior October 22, 2010 10:08 am

Re #93, I don’t think the Superferry is coming back regardless of what the politicians want. Although it relied on Federal loan guarantees, it was a privately-funded initiative and the investors lost tens of millions of dollars due to being told by the state transportation department that no EIS was required and then having the state supreme court decide otherwise. After being burned like that no private entity is going to put up a dime to restart the service, and the state is too broke to do it.

Must be slow day today only 20 votes every half an hour for Moniz.

Yesterday was at least 40+ every half an hour. And usually, drops in half by after lunch.

At this rate we won’t catch #9 Locker today need 595 votes to catch up.

Moniz need to be in the TOP THREE to make the Finalist List which is 10,000 more votes!!

  119. madeinhawaii October 22, 2010 10:37 am

Utah State’s Offense is no-huddle even with a huddle. The QB is encouraged to improvise as he is virtually the only consistent weapon they have. Just stop him and you pretty much win the game.

  120. “Mike from Waimanalo”… “Sean”… all of them are NOTHING.

Just wait for basketball season and the post game show with Gary Dickman. “Matt” is ALWAYS the first caller.. 😆 dis guy is one piece of work. 😆 😆 😆

  121. RE: Utah State’s no huddle.

According to Utah State’s beatwriter, who was on 1420 am this morning, Utah State has a deliberate offense and doesn’t really run a no huddle type offense.

Whatever… Utah State is going to be ticked off after their letdown in Ruston and they should be drooling over tapes of the Colorado game.

However, tis a far far different UH defense this time around…

  128. ***Off topic, but not really***

30+ years and this is what it takes.

For those that watched the Wahine volleyball game last night, you know what I am talking about. For the past several years when the Wahine are on national television, the play by play folks talk them up as if they are a BCS conference football team.

For the most part, just oodles and oodles of respect is given to the program, Hawaii in general, and Dave Shoji for what has been built over there at Manoa and it’s a great piece of advertisement for the program.

What Dave Shoji has done SHOULD be a model for ALL coaches at UH to aspire to.

Last night, the ESPN announcers just talked up the local atmosphere of “ohana” and how the mainland girls are just immediately accepted into the team as if they were all related to the local girls. They really talked up how the mainland players are also taken in by the families of the local girls as well as if they were one of their own daughters and how this really helps solidify the program year after year.

Props to ESPN this time around for speaking the TRUTH and essentially helping to recruit any volleyball players that happened to be watching that night towards UH.

But this is what it takes??? 30+ years of consistency?

Like I said, Hawaii programs ALWAYS have to do more than their mainland counter parts to get any respect of that magnitude.

  129. bb October 22, 2010 10:53 am

    Oh yes,

How can anybody forget “Matt.” First caller every time for basketball season with the post game show. The guy said the same thing every single time.

There is the token stripper on the show, which is different but difficult questions such as what ST asked and subsequently was told _UCK YOU! is what I expected. It’s not really “Unleashed” but instead “Sports Animals 1/2”

  138. Michigan Warrior October 22, 2010 11:06 am

#128… Kazz… As far as I know, the atmosphere is similar in most UH sports. Kids are accepted into the ‘ohana. When you hear prospective recruits talk about their visit to UH, most of them talk about that sense of family. It’s just that the Wahine V-Ball announcers for ESPN are the only ones who have some sense of that reality. They understand how difficult it may be for a kid to travel across the ocean, away from family and friends, to go to school and participate in athletics away from the support they’ve known all their lives. I think Wahine Softball has the same ‘ohana feel. The rest of the sports just don’t make as big a deal about it as they could or should. It’s actually a great selling point.

Capitol 1st, that is a wonderful thing you are doing helping the homelessness and affordable houseing. I was homeless nearly five years. I’m not a derelict, a criminal, a drug user, too lazy to work. I think many people have the mistaken idea they are. I server all my life in the military. I fought in the Vietnam conflict. I was decorated. But due to a miscalculation of my retirement by mr supervisor, I got $1,000 a month instead of $3,000. And I became homeless. Now I am not a democrat or a republican and my views do not reflect hatred for the men I am going to mention but based on facits I learned when I was homeless. Some are your friends so please forgive me, but these are me views. The most anti-homeless democrat was former mayor Mufi Hannemann and the most anti-homeless republican was former councilman Charled Dijou. Mufi made lots of laws against the homeless and Dijou voiced support of those laws. Hannemann kicked people out of the parks not knowing his own relatives were among the homeless. These people have no conscious, no compassion. I know some of you are disgusted seeing homesess as eyesores and stinking up parks, shopping malls. But some of us couldn’t help what happened. Mistake about my retirement pay. We lost our Us citizenship because we lost all our civic rights. We were treated like the African Americans in the segregated south back 40-70 years ago. It’s shameful to treat human beings like this. Mufi and Dijou are men in power. Their one step back for what Adolf Hitler did. Again, I got nothing personal against these men, I learned by experiencing about what they did. We should be king to each other no matter rich or poor. Now I wiill get off the pedestal because I respest this sports blog. I pray June Jones Mustangs will win. I’d like nothing better than for UH Warriors to face his team in the Aloha Bowl. But beating Boise at Boise, man that would be the greatest.

  148. Re: “Ohana” in UH programs.

Michigan Warrior, oh yeah for sure. I didn’t mean my post to come off as if Wahine volleyball is the only one.

I mean take Spencer Smith for example, a Georgia boy, but he’s at UH Manoa taking hula. “HHH” as they call him aka the “Hard Hitting Haole”… Actually I think he gave that nickname to himself…

But yeah, our mainland Warriors and Rainbow Wahine are all taken in by the local guys and gals like adopted brothers and sisters.

But yes it is something that was a nice surprise to hear on national television last night. I didn’t think ESPN would go that far to “plug” the Wahine volleyball program.

  149. madeinhawaii October 22, 2010 11:38 am

Although the next stadium in Hawaii may not be built for another 20 years, use of such a large area needs to be maximized for usage. Through those use the state and city could save a ton of money, and help UH athletics indirectly to help their bottom line.

Plans should include use for the swap meet, office space for the state and city, and other publice use, restaurants, movie complex and maybe a small condominum project for people who would like to live in such an area.

If the stadium is rebuilt in the same area of Halawa. First, a new several story parking structure needs to be built to handle the parking needs now and for the future use. The stadium then to be built in another area so games can still be played at the existing stadium. Having a several story parking structure can help the vendors to have cover over their heads as well as for the customers. (that floor needing to be built higher ceiling room & on the ground level)

Why multiuse because the parking lot is just sitting only to be used for football season, 3 days out of the week for swap meet and a month for the state carnival. With the parking facility built in such a way in connection with the government offices, stadium and other amenities, money can be made and saved by our government which again can help the bottom line of UH athlectics.

Any architects, development companies and future political leader(s) should have this put into their thought process. It maybe a college student today that may lead such a project in the future 20 years or so down the road. Hopefully it maybe sooner.

Thank you Liz/Kauai. Frank Fasi saw no way he could help the poor and the homeless, but at least he didn’t punish them by making laws against them. Mufi and Dijou could have sought ways for creating homeless shelters and affordable housing but they chose not to and instead made laws to hurt the poor/homeless. Now I am not playing politics. But the present Governor had compassion to open up an emergency shelter in KaKaako when Mufi shut City Parks down to the homeless. The Governor and Lieutenant Governor would oftern visit the Kakaako shelter often lending cheer and good will not worrying about “dirtying” their hands. I like both the republican and democratic candiddates for Governor. They are down to earth, genuinely friendly, nice guys. Yes, lot’s of us are pretty much living pay check to pay check. That’s why I love Five-O pumping money into our state economy. That’s why I love to see the Warriors win, Because winning breeds money into the couffers and no one loses their job. Who is HHH other than Hubert Horatio Humphrey who ran for President against Richard Nixon in 1968,

    From Wikipedia:

Hubert Horatio Humphrey, Jr. (May 27, 1911 – January 13, 1978), served under President Lyndon B. Johnson as the 38th Vice President of the United States. Humphrey twice served as a United States Senator from Minnesota, and served as Democratic Majority Whip. He was a founder of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party and Americans for Democratic Action. He also served as Mayor of Minneapolis, Minnesota, 1945–1949. In 1968, Humphrey was the nominee of the Democratic Party in the 1968 presidential election but lost to the Republican nominee, Richard Nixon.

I saw that the NAU game was a replay. But it was new to me. Small things make me happy. They won. Kalena Frank didn’t play. Rolle Activity Center looks good, new paint.

Didn’t catch the UH WVB game though. Listened to the last set on radio.

I’m going to check out using my radio at the theatre today. Gonna be at the movies when the game starts tomorrow. I might join you and myki at Murphy’s for a little while after the first movie tomorrow.

Still needs 512 to catch up to #9. May not be today. Unless… You Vote Vote Vote…

Move over Nevada, there is a new No. 2 in our weekly power rankings, and there’s no disputing this call. By beating the Wolf Pack 27-21, Hawaii proved that they are this year’s surprise team in the WAC

The Warriors’ four straight wins confirm that they’re the real deal. Bryant Moniz is on track to be the conference Offensive Player of the Year after another fine performance.

USU Quick hits on the Game tomorrow:

The result? Your classic “trap” game for the Warriors, who will come out overconfident and find that the change of climate will stifle their winning ways. Utah State wins this one before a homecoming crowd, 38-35.

X-Factor: The weather. The National Weather Service has already issued an alert for Northern Utah this weekend, warning that “the mild fall weather of late will take a dramatic turn beginning this weekend.” Cache Valley is expecting cooler air and precipitation, possibly in the form of snow. Will it arrive by 3 p.m. Saturday? A 50 percent chance of precipitation during the day is currently forcasted, but a drop in the mercury can only help the Aggies at this point. While Hawaii did play well in a loss at altitude against Colorado, that game occurred in September. Logan in late October is a whole different ballgame.

  213. NorthShoreFan October 22, 2010 3:27 pm

Kazz…#128….yup, that’s what it takes. The other coach that used to get some good press was coach Les and his basebows.

Most programs that get talked about and printed about are programs that have shown long lasting quality programs. Some say “commitment to excellence”. Same goes for conferences.

The WAC was on the right track but then MWC greed stepped in and now we see it happening again. The WAC will never be a conference that can be respected because the teams/schools do not do what it takes to build the conference.

I wonder what the WAC would look like today if the MWC, former WAC programs, stuck it out and built the conference.

Change the MWC tag to WAC, with Boise in the mix and you’ll see a pretty good conference with some good programs.

However, presidents like the ones at Fresno and Nevada need to be let go and replaced with presidents like the one at USU. People like him gives credibility and a so often used tag, “honor” to programs. It is so refreshing to see and hear of a man who still honrs his pledge when it matters. Now days a mans word or honor don’t mean a whole lot to people if it involves money or business. It will be a very intersting series of events to see how those schools get out of the sign agreement. Regardless of wording, we all know what the intent and purpose of the agreement is. Let the parties spin the intent.

I had Direct TV installed. 30 minutes after the installers left, I called them to come take their equipment back. Why? Nevah have the Korean soap opera channels! I had asked specifically when I signed up if KBFD was included and had been told it was. My wife and mother watch the soaps religiously. It was a choice between Direct TV sports and my life…umm meant “wife”. Slam dunk! I picked up the phone. I may have been born stupid, but I’m smart enough not to compound my original defect! 😆

  225. LizKauai (iChrome) October 22, 2010 5:01 pm

CoolEthan: Dish is good. I’m dealing with HawaiianTelCom’s special ESPN3 online broadcast perk for DSL users. This directly competes with Oceanic’s online broadcast on its iPhone app….except it’s for a computer. HawnTel’s ESPN3 does not yet work on iPad or smart phones.

BTW- K-5 Replay is scheduled for 9:30PM Saturday.

I gotta say- US companies are beefing up their customer satisfaction response teams tremendously. Over the last month, I have had to deal with ATT, Apple, and the above two companies and ALL have been EXTREMELY SWIFT, COURTEOUS and EFFECTIVE in dealing with our needs. That is a very good thing!

  226. LizKauai (iChrome) October 22, 2010 5:02 pm

gigi- no Oceanic for me as long as I can help it…

  227. LizKauai (iChrome) October 22, 2010 5:09 pm

OK. Official word from Hawaiian TelCom – ESPN3.com coverage of tomorrow’s game is blacked out in Hawaii. I am asking whether a subscriber who is say, visiting the mainland, would have access to the game.

I’m guessing that the wifi provider at the physical location of the computer would hook into its local ESPN3 provider and allow for the connection.

    Latahs!

    Buffoman #169 Your What If

If UH was asked by the MWC, they would have gone back to Benson and the rest of the Presidents and ADs to inform them of what was going down. In doing so a counter plan would have been made to insure the plans were going to go through. If UH believed the other schools would not stick together at that point they would have asked for the agreement to be dropped and consider their options with the MWC. The point is an agreement was made and how those presidents of the 2 schools went about it would never have been done by UH. Come on Buffoman give UH more credit than your insinuations.

    NorthShoreFan

Your prognosis is quite true. The WAC was the MWC competition and if done properly with great leadership it would have been a strong and viable conference to someday reach AQ status. However, the WAC commissioner with certain untrusting leaders of WAC schools and a commissioner like the MWC, things of this nature has happened and will continue to happen with all non AQ conferences.

Although the WAC may survive the sad thing about it, is the length of time it will take to get back to the level they are currently. Guess what the MWC will be no better off once TCU is swiped away from an AQ conference. If both conferences were to have worked together and create an alliance and not have this attitude of “LOOK OUT FOR ME” by some of the leaders, positive things would have manifested. Solidarity is not part of the language

    for those who jumped ship.

For now the only thing for the Warriors to do this week is win… and continue to win each game as they say one game at a time. Go Warriors.

I have sleep apnea,if I don’t sleep on my side I get in trouble by my wife for waking her up. It doesn’t wake me up but it really makes her upset. It’s a shame because I had hoped to marry a woman who would think it was important that I continue breathing.

  254. Ralph October 22, 2010 6:52 pm

gmahoney read the newsletter article posted by Honey girl on the nawahine.com web, her pidgin is close to the older generation of K.K. and others like Lippy Espinda and BigHilofan

  255. Derek October 22, 2010 6:55 pm

There is no chance that the Warriors will be overconfident. Not when we lost to them 2 years ago. Not when BYU beat USU at their home field. Not when USU lost to Oklahoma in Norman by only 1 touchdown. And not when we know that this is USU’s homecoming. I will say this. Utah St. will not beat Hawaii. Hawaii will beat Hawaii if we make a lot of mistakes. If we take care of the ball, not make stupid penalties and play just solid football, we will win this game easily. But if we let them off the hook and help them w/ good field position it could get close. In the end, I believe that Moniz and Co. will score on some big plays and the defense will get some turnovers. This has been the mantra the last 4 games and the team has been getting better with each game.

  256. gmahoney October 22, 2010 7:03 pm

Ralph, I read it. Very well written, I wish I could take the credit. I like “chree” instead of “tree” runs. Sounds like how my brothers-in-law speak.

    Kazz, you write well, too.

  257. Benson October 22, 2010 7:04 pm

Good stuff from you, guy. Ive examine your things ahead of and youre just as well great. I appreciate what youve was given listed here, really like what youre saying and the way you say it. You make it entertaining and also you still take care of to help keep it smart. I cant wait to go through additional from you. This really is seriously an incredible weblog.

Oops.It was Honey Girl rather than gmahoney. Sorry for the confusion!

I need fo lern hao fo reed. Sorry, ah.

  260. Pomai October 22, 2010 7:47 pm

Honey Girl Ka’umanua is not gmahoney, but she is a real wahine who has a great command of pidgen, and when used as she does it brings back part of the old Hawaii.

  264. wafan October 22, 2010 7:53 pm

For those possible recruits and interested “others” might it be a bit confusing? Perhaps a brief summary.

I do, though, like the idea!

    bRAVISSIMO!!!

  265. wafan October 22, 2010 7:55 pm

Dang. First major storm of the season rolling in tonight. Lots of rain and wind. Hopeful we will not lose power.

  266. LizKauai (iPad) October 22, 2010 7:56 pm

Hope that storm moves thru quickly…and relatively quietly.

  268. Steve October 22, 2010 8:02 pm

Is that the weather front that is suppose to hit Utah, tomorrow.

  269. d1島 October 22, 2010 8:05 pm

Hmmm….oh well, wafan. Checked NWS. Batten down. 😯

  270. d1島 October 22, 2010 8:07 pm

    Steve,

Series of different fronts….snow projected in UT; rain in OR

  271. d1島 October 22, 2010 8:09 pm

…THE FIRST SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL OF THE SEASON EXPECTED ACROSS

MOUNTAINS OF NORTHERN AND CENTRAL UTAH…

.THE MILD FALL WEATHER OF LATE WILL BECOME MORE WINTER-LIKE THIS

WEEKEND…AS A SERIES OF INCREASINGLY COLD PACIFIC STORM SYSTEMS

MOVE THROUGH THE REGION. THE FIRST OF THESE SYSTEMS IS FORECAST

TO REACH WESTERN UTAH SATURDAY AFTERNOON…BRINGING WIDESPREAD

RAIN TO THE WESTERN VALLEYS AND HIGH ELEVATION SNOW TO THE

MOUNTAINS OF NORTHERN AND CENTRAL UTAH.

  272. d1島 October 22, 2010 8:10 pm

    Point forecast for Logan

Saturday: A chance of showers, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after noon. High near 56. Calm wind becoming west between 4 and 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

  273. JaM October 22, 2010 8:10 pm

Hi all! Just voted … Mo is at 3731

  274. wafan October 22, 2010 8:11 pm

Protestors marching in Seattle. They are protesting police “brutality” and the “unjustified” killings by the police. Let me see if I understand. If you

    – point a gun at an officer

    – refuse to stop assaulting an officer

    – continue running while brandishing a deadly weapon

    – fire at an officer, or

    – attempt to run down an officer . . .

the police should break out their touchy-feely techniques to talk you into calming down and giving up because you feel the officers should act with caution, protect themselves, not respond or act with deadly force, and must work harder to better understand your personnal problems all while protecting others and your rights and freedoms.

Folks need to grow up and accept responsibility. Almost as bad as some of the students.

    Grrrrrrrr.

  275. d1島 October 22, 2010 8:13 pm

Looks like snow above 8000 ft. level in UT.

  276. Pomai October 22, 2010 8:14 pm

#264 – wafan it is more or less written for the local fans who can enjoy the art of speaking, writing and reading pidgen, which in itself lends a bit of humor to the news letter.

  277. d1島 October 22, 2010 8:15 pm

    wafan,

Gee, once the weather turns up there EVERYTHING gets ugly!

    Sheesh! Take care, brah!

  278. wafan October 22, 2010 8:22 pm

    d1 . . .

HA! Most of those protesting looked like left over granolas. Very different.

  279. wafan October 22, 2010 8:27 pm

    Pomai . . .

No problem. Just thinking what the casual linguistically challenged visitor’s perception might be. Personally, I enjoyed reading the piece and the nuances and complexities of the pidgin.

  281. wafan October 22, 2010 8:30 pm

Long term forecast is for the worst winter since the 1950’s. Uh-oh. I think we are going to be in for a really rough one.

  282. Steve October 22, 2010 8:32 pm

    Wafan,

Hope you have your snow tires then.

  283. wafan October 22, 2010 8:32 pm

Wonder how the new gutter system will hold up this weekend. With the rain and wind most of the leaves (leafs if you are from Canana – HA!) should come down. Maybe the leaves will all blow into my neighbor’s yard. Whoo-hoo!!!

  284. A-House October 22, 2010 8:34 pm

  302. Kati Gallimore October 23, 2010 12:13 am

Hi! I was searching Web and then I came across this blog. I really find the blog post useful and that i shared it with my facebook pals: it all received a whole lot of impressive responses, you will see them here: facebook.com/zandiy/posts/121185094604795. Many thanks for sharing this with us! Regards!

  303. Pride. October 23, 2010 12:18 am

I don’t know who it is.

  304. Pride. October 23, 2010 12:18 am

Somebody is going to return a kick for a touchdown.

  305. Pride. October 23, 2010 12:19 am

Soembody in this room is going to block a punt.

  306. Pride. October 23, 2010 12:19 am

Question is, which one of you young men has the courage to do it.

  307. Pride. October 23, 2010 12:22 am

Which one of you young men sitting in this room today is going to ignore the weather conditions and the altitude and is going to stand up and say it is me. I will block that punt. I will return that kick for a touchdown. I will cause that runnning back to fumble the ball. I will make the big play. I will lead the pack of wild dogs.

  308. Pride. October 23, 2010 12:24 am

Somebody on this room is going to be courageous enough to make a big play today. Look around, who is it going to be? Is it going to be you? Are you not brave enough young man?

  309. Pride. October 23, 2010 12:29 am

Warriors. I challenge you today. I challenge you today toplay as if your life depends on it. You didn’t that tdid you, but it does. The rest of your life will depend on the decisions that you make on that field today. Your life depends on it.

Play as if your life depends on it. Play with great intensity. Play with a sense of urgency.

  310. Pride. October 23, 2010 12:31 am

By the way, who won the ALCS?

The Texas Rangers. Why? Because, the life of it’s franchise depended on it. The Rangers had to win. The Yankees wanted to win.

Who is going to win. The team that wants to win? or the one that has to win?

  311. Pomai October 23, 2010 12:32 am

Pride I’ll make a big play, at Nancy’s by odering da big buger.

  312. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc October 23, 2010 12:34 am

Stopped off at Murphy’s after leaving the Fillum Festiva to make a reservation for tomorrow’s game. I assume that we’ll wind up sharing a table if the crowd is as large as expected.

We’re doing some canvassing for DaDems in the Kahalu`u area before heading on into town for 1) football 2)BIZBALL, 3) Chree moomies at 4 pm, 6 pm and 10 pm.

Nitey-Night – BTW. The Herdsman – Boots for short – is fitting in very well.

LSU’s defense will be forced to give up something, Auburn will have to be able to recognize it and exploit it. Malzahn will have a solid game plan in place. It looks like this will be an instant classic type football game. National implications ride with this game, very good to be able to say that about an AU football game again, but the job isn’t close to being over. Let’s hope the guys can keep their noses to the grindstone and stay focused. War Eagle! Beat LSU!

    Good Morning Warrior Nation !

BIG game today up in Logan as conditions won’t be Hawaii weather as

playing in rain and sleet is going to take a lot of mental concentration

and physical toughness to pull this win out. Defense against Utah State

running game and containing it’s athletic quaterback are keys for a potential

    BIG win on the road.

Need a good offensive game as the run n shoot wil be challenged so the

running game with your BIG back Alex Green who can rumble through the

tackles and burst through the open field will need to touch the ball as he

has the abilities of making the BIG play !

Special Teams will play good as they have been criticize for their lack of

performance with each player stepping up and not letting vulnerability become

their weakness which later on can make a huge difference in a close contested

    game.

Got my retro Warrior Jack antenna ball smiling while riding the LA roads

today as Punchbowl Kid I thank you for the kind gift. Free Saturday

as early tennis this morning then lifting at Magic’s 24 hour fitness then

home in anticipation of this IMPORTANT Warrior game !

Have a GREAT morning folks and Imua Warriors !

Hawzit Brew (a little southern twang to that boy howdy!).

Your name came up, for some odd reason, as we discussed serial killers in the bay area. Prolly because of your camera shy altitude.

Anyway, the Zodiac killer remains a mystery in your neighborhood. Some say that just like D.B. Cooper, he will never be found.

No doubt about today. The Warrior clan will swoop down and destroy the Aggies! I’m expecting the offense to perform with surgical precision in posting a victory. Leave no doubt…knock ’em out!

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

I’m trying to create American jobs so I hope you don’t mind me including my link in this post. Jake, nice idea. You can do that or maybe go to tradingstrategiespro.com (I can’t exactly remember which article it was) and look around for forex signals, there is some quite useful free info and some good tips what to buy, too. Whichever way you go, it’s actually the same as with futures trading – not that difficult, but going in without doing your homework is still a sure recipe for trading failure.

    Unbelieveable !!!!

    Signal Jammer

Very well built. Output is exactly what is described- a nice even swath of noise over the CDMA, 3G and GSM bands. It is putting out a few milliwatts and cell towers put out hundreds of watts- so it works only over 10-50 feet on CDMA and less on 3G. AT&T phones seem to be immune

    – Solid construction, easy to operate- Work well with with all mobile frequency in Thailand (AIS, DTAC, 3G-2100) haven’t tried with 3G-EVDO or CDMA but should work fine- Applicable for any place you need quiet time (meeting room, classroom, even skytrain)

  • ways to get a six pack November 19, 2010 8:16 pm

Not gonna happen my friend. 6 packs take a lot of hard work and time. Not gonna just happen over night. a 6 pack is mostly diet. Running will be your best bet for losing fat around your abs. Alos your gonna need to do at least 100 sit-ups, crunches, whatever ab exercise you do each night to get it. Also if you want to get bigger you might not be getting enough protein to feed your muscle after working out and thats why you havn’t been getting bigger. I know you say that you don’t want to take pills or whatever but prob the best way to put on muscle fast is to get a protein powder from a store.

  • truth about six pack abs November 20, 2010 1:49 am

Actually, I used to do ALOT of pullups. As weird as it sounds this was the best thing for my abs. And swinging on the playground; just go all the way back on the forward motion and sit up on the back motion. It’s an incredible workout and it’s fun. My girlfriend says I have like an 8 pack….
