Walk-on impresses

One of the sleepers of the offseason workouts is Marcus Cooley, a cornerback from Mendocino College. His JC teammates were running back Sterling Jackson and linebacker Darryl McBride, now both with UH.

Here’s Cooley’s highlight video (strong language advisory): Cooley.

* * * * *

Waylon Lolotai, who spent the past couple of years on defense after returning from a church mission, has moved to the offensive line.

* * * * *

Levi Goeas tried to give it a shot, but it appears he will be taking a medical retirement because of a shoulder injury.

A very happy birthday to Susan (Sato) Tamura. Rough Riders 4 eva.

As I posted on my Facebook status:

Aloha everyone!!! Sorry for the very limited computer time.

My Dad is off of sedation, and now responding to doctor’s commands. All vitals are looking good/normal so far. Still needs dialysis… probably for the rest of his life.

Looking forward to meeting fellow UH fans this coming Sunday in Kapolei.

    More later…

Mahalo for your continued thoughts and prayers! You guys are awesome! God is “awesomer”!

Will have at least my oldest daughter, Kanani, and my second oldest son, Fred (yes, named after my Dad), with me for this CC.

Mahalo, NSF, Kekoa, and everyone else!

One thing I forgot to mention about last nights game. It was cool that UH honored the seniors from Utah State by calling them out on the floor and giving them a lei, but like all sore losers, four of the five took the lei off before leaving the floor, shows no class at all.

it is intriguing that the entire mendocino cc roster of 2009 seems to have been overlooked by recruiters as none seemed to have been offered a d1 scholarship.

we end up with three walk-ons who could earn scholarships soon.

st, perhaps a backside story on all three and how they landed far away and across the sea to manoa would be a great read.

If the Wahine softball game is cancelled due to weather, everyone should come over to the SSC and watch the men’s volleyball team take on Pepperdine. Should be a good game. The big bonus is to watch our Grand Puba ST in action.

Do you still live in Kaimuki? That’s a long drive from Kaimuki to Kapolei!

I haven’t been in Kapolei since 2004. Sorry I can’t make it to the CC.

  28. al March 4, 2011 10:17 am

i like the move for waylon lolotai. i am sure he’ll have no problem getting up to a natural football weight of 290 lbs. at a legit 6’3″ and with all of his athleticism i could see him as an offensive tackle.

in hs he did it all including tight end, lb, and de. he was also the state wrestling champ and ran the 4×100 relays.

he’s guy just waiting to hit the field…anywhere. i just hope that once they decide on his position that they won’t jockey him around. he could land up in the nfl in three years.

  29. al March 4, 2011 10:22 am

koakane…i must agree with you. both bb teams played with heart and a never say die attitude.

both battled the whole game coming from behind by 21 and 10 pts respectively to eke out a very important win.

my ears were riveted to the radio as bobby curran retold what was happening on the court.

even the boss couldn’t take her eyes off the wahine fantastic finish.

  30. NCAA March 4, 2011 10:23 am

    Ms. gigi-hawaii,

Wakanohada? Wakanowada? Wakanohana? Waka-something, but I know it starts with a “W”. 😆

  31. al March 4, 2011 10:29 am

it will be interesting, because early indications are that none of our warriors will make the all wac first team.

how can zane “drain” johnson be left off the first team? again tonight he hits a critical trey when the game was still in balance and he pretty much shutdown adrian oliver again for the most part. oliver to his credit buried all of his free throws to have decent numbers, but, for the most part was held silent.

bill “famous” amis, has quietly led this team since coming back from a mid season injury and should also get his due.

newcomer’s list should not be without vander joachim and miah ostrowski’s names.

coach of the year? going from 10-20 to a possible 20-10 is credible enough don’t you think. going from a predicted repeat of wac dormat to potential fourth place finish albeit after an 0-5 wac conference start is amazing. gibber for governor?

    OFF-SPORTS TOPIC – SORT OF:

Our 1988 Toyota is facing nearly $2300 in repairs – a part holding the car frame together has broken off and is no longer available so the entire frame needs to be replaced. The part snapped off while driving in downtown yesterday – ten minutes earlier I’d been on the Pali Highway.

Getting around by bus during the week day is fairly easy, but I had to cancel our organization’s participation in an educational event at the Capitol today because I couldn’t carry all the stuff I needed on the bus.

Going to evening sporting events during the week is also a major hassle. We had to leave the Wahine basketball game at halftime in order to make sure that we could get back to Kailua. We caught the next to last bus. We wouldn’t have gotten home until nearly midnight if we’d caught the last bus.

Fortunately, the major rains did not hit the Windward side until after midnight so we able to stay dry during the 3/4 mile walk from the bus stop to the house.

If we have to spend that kind of money, DrDoc and I will need to buy a new-2-us car as quickly as possible.

Does anyone here have a used vehicle in good condition or know where we can get one? Please send an e-mail to swood at hoku dot com.

    BACK TO SPORTS

Only one person responded to the offer to organize a Big Blue Tent at one of the ballgames. My contact who offered to pick up half of the cost says that the minimum number is 20 people.

Today is a major deadline at the Legislature – unfortunately, all six of my bills – including the two dealing with UH athletics – will not be moving forward although elements of four of them will be integrated into other pieces of legislation.

Will try to catch a softball game later on this afternoon – assuming it is not rained out.

Congrats to both the men’s and women’s basketball team for their wins yesterday. Anyone here going to the WAC tournaments?

  37. Shoko March 4, 2011 10:34 am

    Morning, folks!

Nice wins last night for both Warrior and Wahine basketball teams. Looking forward to the WAC tournament in Vegas!

    WarriorMojo,

You were talking about tie-break situations that could occur based on the outcomes of Saturdays MBB games and how it will affect seedings for the tournament. Jason Erickson, WAC Media Relations dude, formulated possible scenarios. Seems the Warriors best seeding is 5th or 6th with no byes, which means four games in four days to win the WAC tournament and a berth to the NCAA tournament.

    Utah State

    1: Locked

    Boise State

    2: Locked

    Fresno State

7: If Fresno State beats Hawaii and Boise State beats San Jose State

8: If Fresno State loses OR If Fresno State beats Hawaii and San Jose State beats Boise State

    Hawaii

5: If Hawaii beats Fresno State OR If Hawaii loses to Fresno State and New Mexico State beats Nevada

6: If Hawaii loses to Fresno State and Nevada beats New Mexico State

    Idaho

3: If Nevada beats New Mexico State

4: If New Mexico State beats Nevada

    Louisiana Tech

    Eliminated

    Nevada

4: If Nevada beats New Mexico State

6: If Nevada loses to New Mexico State

    New Mexico State

3: If New Mexico State beats Nevada

5: If New Mexico State loses to Nevada and Fresno State beats Hawaii

6: If New Mexico State loses to Nevada and Hawaii beats Fresno State

    San Jose State

7: If San Jose State beats Boise State OR If San Jose State loses to Boise State and Hawaii beats Fresno State

8: If San Jose State loses to Boise State and Fresno State beats Hawaii

Anyway, have a nice day everybody!

  38. WarriorMojo March 4, 2011 10:35 am

  39. Hawaiian March 4, 2011 10:35 am

    al,

That would make a great article (the mendocino cc boys on UH’s roster)…i totally agree!!!

  40. WarriorMojo March 4, 2011 10:40 am

Shoko, thanks for that. Not sure why UH can’t get 4th. Oh, well.

  41. jm2375 March 4, 2011 10:55 am

    Good morning Tsaikos!!

  42. Stephen Tsai March 4, 2011 10:57 am

That was quite some rain last night.

I felt like the little pig in the stick house.

  43. Stephen Tsai March 4, 2011 10:58 am

Interesting thing about the Mendocino players is that they all are walk-ons this year. (Well, Jackson goes on scholarship in August.)

Don’t think the WUE program extends to Georgia (Jackson) and Philadelphia (McBride).

  44. Stephen Tsai March 4, 2011 10:59 am

I also should ask them how it feels to have to pay student athletic fees.

  45. NCAA March 4, 2011 10:59 am

    Mr. ST,

You were eaten by a wolf?

  46. HawaiiMongoose March 4, 2011 11:00 am

Shoko, it appears that Jason’s analysis doesn’t include the scenario where UH beats Fresno State and Nevada beats NMSU. That’s the scenario that BC said would put Hawaii in 4th.

  47. Derek March 4, 2011 11:07 am

Yep, Marcus Cooley is a sleeper alright. Never heard of him until now. When did he surface?

When did he enroll at UH? Was he practicing with the team last year? Does he have 2 to play 2 or 3 to play 2? You have to wonder why 3 guys from the same JC didn’t get even a scholarship. It woud be very interesting to know what the low down is from the coach or coaches that recruited them? That would be a very nice story in the Star Advertiser, Stephen.

Waiting for the first spring roster and the first depth chart, 4 or 5 deep! Who are the fastest guys on the team? Who are the strongest guys on the team? Who has made the most improvement in the off season? Who are the hardest workers on the team? Who has the best technique? The best hands? The runs the best routes? Who’s the shiftiest? Who’s the best tacklers? Etc. Etc. Etc. We will find out soon enough.

  48. Shoko March 4, 2011 11:16 am

    HawaiianMongoose,

Thats what WarriorMojo brought up in yesterdays blog. I posted if Hawaii beats Fresno State and Nevada beats NMSU, Nevada would get the fourth seed because they swept NMSU and Hawaii didn’t. Tie-breakers is kind of mind boggling in my opinion. Here’s the link I posted yesterday that states the rules. Check it out…

    Good morning everyone!

So, why the interest in blogger/sumotori/enka star/MC las vegas (Rasu Begasu) lately? Aside from the fact that you will find his ninja-like blog footprints semi-hidden throughout the development of Tsai-ko history and lore. His two Tsai-ko bios (the one published by ST was short) is at:

    http://home.roadrunner.com/~smurashi/tsai-kos/bios/bio-lasvegas.html

He did post his real name last year–especially when we had to send him payment for the UNLV game day bus(s). Expect a repeat this year.

  59. Ralph March 4, 2011 12:20 pm

Longwood comes to town next week in the Pepsi Malihini Classic, Briana Wells is a top notch pitcher for Longwood with a 7-0 record, currently Longwood is ahead of Long Island 8-0 in the 5th inning with Wells pitching.

  60. Ralph March 4, 2011 12:22 pm

Virginia, a team that beat UH in the Cathedral City Classic defeated #12 Oregon 3-2. Virginia is unranked. I guess both Oregon and UH loses RPI points losing to unranked Virginia.

  64. koakane™ March 4, 2011 12:36 pm

wdoc maybe able to help w/ car depending on your budget email me a number to call you

yep al about your #31 post should be able to put one warrior on 1st team, one on second, two on honorable mention and cgibb outright coy. but it’s the WAC.

  65. Ralph March 4, 2011 12:45 pm

HB with a new HC and line coach the Raiders will be making changes in the OL. The Raiders paid big bucks for Routt and Wimbley, if Gallery was worthed it they would have made the offer. Our offense has been a sore point, everyone is expandable on the offense. Russell is gone. Heyward-Bey has caught only 2 TDs in two years and he was a #1 pick. McFadden, another #1, finally had a good, productive year last season but that’s the only one he made good.

It’s better to clear salary and deadwood and reinvent the Raiders.

  66. HawaiiMongoose March 4, 2011 12:51 pm

Shoko, thanks for the link. My read is that if Hawaii beats Fresno State and Nevada beats NMSU, it won’t matter that Nevada swept NMSU and Hawaii didn’t, because NMSU would not be one of the teams tied at 9-7 (they would be 8-8). The teams tied at 9-7 would be Idaho, Hawaii and Nevada. The tiebreaker process that would apply would be the one for three or more tied teams, and the first tiebreaker in that process would be “the record of the tied teams against each other”.

In that scenario Idaho would get the third seed because it finished 4-0 against Hawaii and Nevada. However, Hawaii and Nevada would remain tied because Hawaii was 1-3 against Idaho and Nevada, and Nevada was 1-3 against Idaho and Hawaii.

So, the deciding factor between Hawaii and Nevada would become the second tiebreaker in the process, which is RPI. Hawaii’s RPI is above Nevada’s and hence Hawaii would get the fourth seed.

(The preceding assumes Boise State will win on Saturday and finish 10-6; however if the Broncos lose and become part of the 9-7 group, they will still get the second seed because Boise State has a better record against Idaho and Hawaii and Nevada than any of those three does against the other three.)

    Clear as mud? 🙂

  67. Hawaiianbod March 4, 2011 12:56 pm

Ralph – if it was Da Raiders’ call then i have no problem with the depature. However, if it was Gallery’s choice, well, don’t let the door hit u on the way out (another overpriced/underachieved Raider).

  68. Da Punchbowl Kid March 4, 2011 1:01 pm

    Good Afternoon Gangeez! 🙂

Thanks for the #1 share, Diogenes! 😉

Cooley looks like he’ll be helpful somewhere. Wonder how he’d do at slot…

Welcome back to Waylon. Funny, just yesterday I was having a conversation with a former O-line great from the Warriors who stressed the importance of athleticism for NFL O-line prospects. Looks like Waylon’s got that edge.

  69. Ralph March 4, 2011 1:04 pm

#59 correction. Louisiana Layfette 1 Alabama 0. Ashley Brignac 7-0 winner, Kelsi Dunne 7-1

  70. NCAA March 4, 2011 1:07 pm

An “aha moment” reaction time is slow to develop for a few gifted souls.

  71. NCAA March 4, 2011 1:14 pm

The only thing going for the Raiders is their mystique and past history. Other than that their Galleon has sunk and the Jolly Roger has burned to a crisp. Not even Capt. Jack Sparrow can save them.

  72. Da Punchbowl Kid March 4, 2011 1:14 pm

Said it before, gonna say it again: you can see great foundations being laid by the coaches for the men’s and women’s basketball teams.

Like coach Gib says, his team is at the point where it expects to win.

Yesterday’s win by the Wahine is another example of the fighting spirit both teams currently have.

Look for continued improvement in both teams over the next couple of years.

  73. Ralph March 4, 2011 1:15 pm

HB the Raiders let him walk when he wanted a high salary, little more than 5 million difference of opinion on value. LOL. The Raiders struggled offensively for years, and Gallery has been a Raider much of that time. Last year with Hue Jackson as OC, the Raiders finally improved. Was it Jackson or the departure of Russell, I don’t know, but all is good, the Raiders are coming back.

  74. Ralph March 4, 2011 1:19 pm

The phoenix shall rise, the fire and ambers are burning in Oakland, the Raiders are back. It is time to raise the Jolly Roger, it is time to battle. Only a strike or lock can stop the Raiders!

  75. NCAA March 4, 2011 1:28 pm

Little Johnny’s parents were finally getting divorced, and went to famiily court for a custody hearing.

Little Johnny’s mother’s attorney told the court that he should live with his mother because she was nurturing and kind, and even worse… Johnny’s Daddy beats him!

Little Johnny’s father’s attorney told the court that he should live with his father because he could better provide proper necessities, and even worse… Johnny’s Mommy beats him!

Finally, the judge asked Johnny “Who do YOU want to live with, son?”

And Little Johnny wiped his eys, sniffled and squeaked out “I want to live with the Oakland Raiders, because They can’t beat anyone!”

  76. WarriorMojo March 4, 2011 1:37 pm

    Re #67

    Agreed for the most part.

When deciding a tie between 3 teams, you include games against higher placed teams as well. So Idaho beats out BSU for second. since they beat USU.

UH should beat Nevada based on RPI.

  77. NCAA March 4, 2011 1:40 pm

Nice rebound by the Rainbow baseball team.

  78. WarriorMojo March 4, 2011 1:41 pm

Longwood University is 10-0 with Briana Wells 8-0. They will be here next week facing Na Wahine on March 11 in the Pepsi Malihini Tournament.

  80. Ralph March 4, 2011 1:50 pm

I’m just bored Mr. Ralph. One day your Raiders will be in the Super Bowl again…

    SteveM,

For a long time, it puzzled me why LV used Rasu Begasu as his 2nd Tsaiko nic.

Finally, a few days ago, I realized it is the Japanese pronunciation of Las Vegas! lol. Yup, I had to sound it out too when I first saw it. Explanation:

There is no “L” or “V” in the Japanese syllabary. Closest to “Las Vegas” is

RA SU – BE GA SU

japanese pronunciation is: Rah sue – bay gah sue

the “u” is usually silent in this case…and that’s all I remember from High School Japanese. 🙂

  92. NCAA March 4, 2011 2:35 pm

    Mr. SteveM,

It’s not a true “Rah”. You need to use your tongue more in the pronunciation.

    Still waiting to be amazed.

  93. NCAA March 4, 2011 2:40 pm

Also not “bay” but more “beh”. From high school Japanese 1 class.

  94. Hiflyer March 4, 2011 3:07 pm

NCAA – It’s been along time since SteveM was in high school.

  96. hawaiiansun March 4, 2011 3:28 pm

Cooley is missing screws to submit a video with that language and narrative format–no wonder he is a walk on.

BTW, who on the UH staff said, Cooley is a “sleeper” or did they mean it figuratively?

Further, the 15 reps he pounded out in a rush were cheats and not strict–he didnt lock elbows and bounced on the reset….sorry, not impressed.

  100. Kekoa March 4, 2011 3:36 pm

Mr. NCAA ~ Ralph is actually a very knowledgable person, until it comes to choosing an NFL team.

The more we urge him to ‘divorce’ the Oakland Traitor’s, the more entrenched he becomes.

Alas! I think it’s too late to save him, so that’s why we allow him to live out his Phoenix fantasy.

  101. hawaiiansun March 4, 2011 3:42 pm

Appears likely Hawaii wont get the #4 seed….so, the #6 seed is actual a better seed than the #5.

#6 seed plays the #2 seed in the third day. #5 seed plays Utah State.

The advantage is in the second day, but realistically there is very little difference betw the #3 and #4 seeds.

My #54 above about the legislative briefing on the Hawaii Professional Football League scheduled for this coming Tuesday has been postponed. Will let you know when it is to be re-scheduled.

I’ve come down with a cold so we’re going to skip going to The Stan tonight for the men’s volleyball match because I have to walk in the rain to & from various bus stops. If the weather doesn’t improve tomorrow afternoon, we’ll also be skipping tomorrow night’s match as well.

We’re also taking a pass on tonight’s softball games and probably tomorrow’s games as well . Maybe the weather will be decent enough to go to one or two of the Sunday games.

#12 Souljah, I just looked at the video of Marcus Cooley, but it was breaking up too much so I just turned it off. He can play, but I’m not as impressed as some other players that I saw on YouTube. Thanks for the vid though. His music was laced with the “N” word and a lot of “f” words. Reminds me of the Salter basketball guy that had a twitter laced with the same type of words. He left. Cooley, like Salter, may also not fit in to Hawaii’s ohana lifestyle. I hope he does for his sake and realize that this is paradise and he could get a great education too and also, grows up and finds out that your life doesn’t have to be all swear words. Its a beautiful world and Hawaii is the best place to be.

  124. Shoko March 4, 2011 8:59 pm

Sorry to hear about your Dad, Michigan Warrior. I’ll send out a prayer for your dad, as well as MadeInHawaii. Positive thoughts! Also, glad to see DPK back on the blog as well. 🙂

    HawaiiMongoose,

I hear where you’re coming from, but Hawaii not getting the number four seed is just the way the system works. Could the system use some tweaking? Perhaps, but the Warriors playing four games in four days to win the WAC title isn’t so bad, in my opinion. Warriors are playing some good ball and might make a deep run into the tournament. However, how they finish doesn’t matter to me so much, considering where they were expected to place preseason; dead last. It’s been an amazing turn around tho.

  125. Oil Paintings March 4, 2011 9:04 pm

Just watched Cooley’s highlight video. The dialoge including Denzel Washington’s tantrum in the movie “Training Day” doesn’t exactly speak volumes of his character. Not going to pass judgement on the kid, but extra attention might be needed off the field.

    #108, D1.

If Hawaii is #5 seed, which is likely, it will face the #8 seed in the opening round.

If we win, we face the #4 seed in the second round. Should we advance to the third round, we face #1 seed, Utah State.

#6 seed squares off in the opening round with #7 seed, then its bracket faces #3 seed in the second round and #2 in the third round.

Both #1 and #2 seeds draw byes for the first two-rounds. #3 and #4 draw a bye in the opening round.

I prefer being the #6 seed bc if we advance, i’d rather face BSU than USU in the 3rd round.

  132. Bigislandkurt March 4, 2011 10:56 pm

When I first clicked on to Cooley’s link I was a bit set back by the profanity-laced audio. But then I realized I was being a hypocrite ‘cuz my mouth is naturally pilau when I talk story with my friends. It’s a new day and age — yes, my lens says bradduh should have used some other audio tracks — but there’s another side of me that says he free to do what he wants. Free country. What it also tells me is that this bradduh had no one influential who could steer his PR machine in the right direction. I can remember many dumb things I did when I was 19 or 20. So he get pass from me — I can look beyond the f bombs. We don’t ask much from our players — just pass your classes, be a good football player, no make the program shame, and just win baby. Easy.

On this day in the first year (2007) of The Warrior Beat blog …Speculation on the new Defensive Coordinator to replace Jerry Glanville, controversy at Wallace’s farewell ceremony, DPK is still MIA but Long Time UH Fan checks in. Also, first time blogger Sakana posts (he will be a fixture here–maybe we’ll have a contest later to guess what his blog name is today). But here’s ST’s entire blog entry…

Posted on: March 4, 2007 at 12:35:13 pm

    McMackin might be a candidate

Greg McMackin is one of four football coaches who has had informal discussions about the defensive coordinator’s job.

The job was vacated when Jerry Glanville became Portland State’s head coach.

McMackin was UH’s defensive coordinator in 1999, June Jones’ first season as UH head coach. He left after one season to become defensive coordinator at Texas Tech. Since then, he also has coached with the San Francisco 49ers.

    * * *

Mouse Davis and Glanville arrive in Portland this afternoon, where they will meet Jones, who is attending a Nike clinic.

Davis is expected to be officially offered the job as PSU’s offensive coordinator early this week.

    * * *

Jones said that in agreement with Nike, there will be “subtle changes” to the 2007 uniforms.

    * * *

Riley Wallace was deserving of the love and appreciation he received last night, his last regular-season appearance as UH head coach.

In a show of class, Wallace offered a hug to Herman Frazier, who was booed when introduced.

Someone said they think a jacket Riley was holding was a gift from the administration, although there was no presentation. So I’ll delete the previous post.

By the way, the entire post-game ceremony was planned and organized by Bob Nash and assistant media relations director Derek Inouchi. They deserve great praise for a job well done.

hey, what happened to the previous comments? or is my computer playing tricks???

    03/04/07 @ 12:39

    Comment from: Stephen [Member]

In the previous post, i said I did not notice there was a gift from the administration. I was told earlier the administration would not present a gift.

But I noticed a couple of posts where they said a jacket was handed to Wallace from the AD after the chancellor’s speech. I called three people in the basketball program, and they said they noticed the jacket but didnt’ know whom it came from.

    There was no announcement.

So I figured it would be easier to delete the post.

Deleting the post was probably wise. You don’t want to stir up unnecessary controversy.

I don’t really remember Mc Mackin much. Was he any good? Anybody have an educated opinion?

    03/04/07 @ 13:13

    Comment from: Stephen [Member]

    McMackin was extremely innovative.

He inherited a UH defense that seemed to be miscast, but he needed speedier guys to run his multiple-blitz defense. That’s when he decided to do the move-up strategy: Cornerbacks became safeties, safeties became outside linebackers, outside linebackers became defensive ends. Without adding players, those changes made the defense faster. He also went with the field/boundary strategy with the cornerbacks. Quincy LeJay was a good cover defender who did not have blazing speed. So when the ball was on the right hash, he would play on the narrow side — boundary — of the field. Shawndel Tucker covered the wide said (field).

In the O‘ahu Bowl against Oregon State, he moved an outside linebacker up, creating a five-man front.

That said . . . Reinebold is our guy, right?

    03/04/07 @ 13:24

    Comment from: Garret [Visitor]

    Ted,

Some stats from McMackin’s year as UH DC:

5 defensive TDs, tying the UH record.

MLB Jeff Ulbrich set a team record with 169 tackles (UH ran a 4-3 defense).

CB Quincy LeJay had 7 INTs, returning 3 for TDs (set UH record)

    UH had 32 QB sacks

    03/04/07 @ 13:38

    Comment from: Puhi [Visitor]

The defense was awesome under McMackin. But how long will he stay?

    03/04/07 @ 15:05

    –Mulligan–

Now a gotta “do over” my post from early this morning.

LOVED IT when the crowd boo’s Herman last night. High class they Riley Wallace squashed it all, know damn well I couldn’t have done the same under similar circumstances.

HF, low class, the way he handled the entire situation.

I don’t know about all of you, but Herman the Munster has to go, soon. Riley, the schedule, he doesn’t care about us, the fans, the school, the people of Hawaii, he only cares about himself, his next career move and all the cronies that make U-H athletics “Top-Heavy”.

Oh, and I didn’t I mention McMackin early last week….YEAH!!!

    03/04/07 @ 16:57

    Comment from: sakana [Visitor]

Hats off to Coach Wallace for a job well done. It is always sad to see someone leave who has been part of UH for so long. It will be most interesting to see how many coaches apply for this job. Money will be an important part, but we should not forget that what makes us so great is that we care about people and are willing to help.

    BigIslandKurt on 133,

I agree with you that Cooley did not have good counsel when he made the video. Many coaches, etc. would’ve been put-off by the language used on it and he would’ve been better-served and better-viewed had he made some better choices in the production. For those who don’t know or didn’t recognize the beginning of the video, it’s an excerpt from the movie “Training Day” where Denzel Washington (that’s his voice and he plays a corrupt undercover DEA-type of law enforcement) is delivering a profanity-laden diatribe to his tough neighbors/community for defying him; this is shortly before he’s gunned down. Maybe Cooley was trying to set a tough-guy, gangsta tone. If he didn’t get any offers, I’m not all that surprised He needed some professional editing and a better marketer/PR person.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

D-1 ~ I saw the news clip on our local stations about that young athlete who died. The video of his final game winning basket and game film of his TD passes were very impressive.

They did mention that he died of a heart condition. What a tragedy for a family to lose such an outstanding Scholar athlete.

Parents ((hug)) those young uns today and everyday while you are out makin’ memories.

  178. Bulla March 5, 2011 8:02 am

good morning Tsaikos; a prayer to the family of the young athlete that passed away. just another example that there are no guarantees, none….so love on your kids TODAY, forgive those that have wronged you TODAY, make someone laugh TODAY, share a meal with a friend TODAY, bless someone TODAY, tell someone you love them TODAY, call up a long lost friend TODAY, be the best you can be TODAY…….you get the picture

live life as transparently as you can because the more you tell the truth, the less you have to remember. know that complacency is the security blanket for the devil……. now go do something positive.

miss you guys, all is well, blessings to all 🙂

  217. odszkodowanie z zus March 7, 2011 8:11 pm

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

Your current weblog is okay. I simply should comment on the planning. Its way too loud. It’s doing process too much plus it takes away from precisely what youve got a chance to say –which I’m is unquestionably important. 294. Samsung UN65C8000 Review March 27, 2011 12:36 am

Great review. Thanks for posting such an in depth impression. I’ve handled one in the store, but your review covered alot of ground that I couldn’t with such a limited amount of time. Based on my in-store experience and your review I think I’ll be waiting for a future generation to arrive. The potential is certainly there for this device, but based on my current portfolio of tech devices (laptop, desktop, iPhone, iTouch) I’m not sure this device quite justifies the expense at this time for me.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

  309. coach purse March 31, 2011 8:27 pm

Hello – Nice site, just browsing around some pages, it looks to be a very nice looking theme you are using here. I am currently using WordPress to run a few of my web sites but thinking of changing one of these over to a theme the same as yours just for a test run. Anything in particular you would suggest for it?
