UH football schedule

And after a long, long wait, here’s the 2011 Warrior football schedule …

Sept. 3 — Colorado

Sept. 10 — At Washington

Sept. 17 — At Nevada-Las Vegas

Sept. 24 — UC Davis

Oct. 1 — At Louisiana Tech

Oct. 8 — Bye

Oct. 15 — At San Jose State

Oct. 22 — New Mexico State

Oct. 29 — At Idaho

Nov. 5 — Utah State

Nov. 12 — At Nevada

Nov. 19 — Fresno State

Nov. 26 — Tulane

Dec. 3 — Brigham Young

* * * * *

Former UH defensive coordinator Jerry Glanville has been named head coach of the Hartford Colonials of the United Football League.

Glanville called the Warrior Beat to say he will conduct a tryout in Honolulu. Date yet to be determined.

UH receivers coach Mouse Davis was Glanville’s offensive coordinator for two years at Portland State. They had a very public parting — Glanville wanted to run more, so Davis ran away from the program — but Davis wishes his old boss the best.

“That’s a good thing,” Davis said. “But he’s going to have to change his lingo a little bit to fit in that area.”

At UH, Glanville used the phrase OW (open weeping) and said that “tight end was not a position, it was a physical condition.”

Oh, heck, let’s have a contest. Got a UH banquet program autographed by Anthony Carter. To enter, post: Things are heating up. Where’s the AC?

Avis picks a winner tonight.

  8. jm2375 March 21, 2011 9:21 am

LK – I forgot your kids went to MPI too. Screecher #1 has homework (!) and yard work duties. 😀 She will also be taking a national exam (voluntary) after break that she should study for.

  9. Michigan Warrior March 21, 2011 9:21 am

  15. gigi-hawaii March 21, 2011 9:30 am

  17. Da Punchbowl Kid March 21, 2011 9:35 am

    Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂

Good for Glanville. To bad he likes the run so much, I can think of at least one excellent QB prospect for him…

  18. ai-eee-soos March 21, 2011 9:36 am

Was it Glanville who said the NFL was the No Fun League?

I wonder what his term would be for the UFL.

  19. koakane™ March 21, 2011 9:36 am

jm# kden do some work 😀

  20. Stephen Tsai March 21, 2011 9:37 am

  24. Stretch March 21, 2011 9:43 am

ST – it’s past 10am…. everywhere else in the world.

  25. Da Punchbowl Kid March 21, 2011 9:44 am

    * the water in the blog pond begins to roil, many small shapes suddenly appear beneath the surface, darting back and forth.*

  26. Stephen Tsai March 21, 2011 9:57 am

Brrrr. That Nevada game will be chilly.

  27. al March 21, 2011 9:58 am

    spring break is yard week.

hey, anyone out there looking for a yard to work on?

  28. Stephen Tsai March 21, 2011 9:58 am

Sorry for the delay. I was on the phone with a UH coach, who said during the conversation: “Oh, (bleep), I just got pulled over.”

  29. Stephen Tsai March 21, 2011 10:00 am

    Al:

Whatever happened to the neighborhood kids who come around and work the yard for cash?

Like newspaper delivery, those jobs are now handled by adults.

  30. ai-eee-soos March 21, 2011 10:01 am

Nov. 12 at Nevada – Thanks a lot Benson. Lousy winter weather.

  31. gigi-hawaii March 21, 2011 10:01 am

    ST,

well, don’t look at me. I don’t do yard work. I have a yard man. His name is Hubby.

  32. al March 21, 2011 10:03 am

i kind of like this schedule.

one of our better schedules it seems.

i keep looking for boise state…hahaha.

but then again we do finish with one of our all time nemesis’ in by-who.

  33. haka March 21, 2011 10:03 am

I wonder if the UH coach will get off with a “warning”?

  34. gigi-hawaii March 21, 2011 10:03 am

so weird not seeing Boise State on the calendar!

  35. Pochonese March 21, 2011 10:04 am

What conference is Bye in ?

  36. Derek March 21, 2011 10:05 am

I could care less about the NFL. To me, it is the owners fault. Surveys back me up on this that the majority feel the owners are the ones preventing a deal. As long as we have college football I am happy. Hey, maybe we should have some marque college football games on Sunday in the fall? How about that. No more NFL. Great. We got major Division IA college football. Talking about our Warriors, I am interested in knowing the 4 deep depth chart. Mack said while the team might be lacking in some spots on experience, there is a lot of talent. Well, if you ask me I would rather have talent over experience. If you have the talent the potential is there. It is up to the coaches to blend that talent to blend the players into cohesive units whether it’s on offense, defense, or special teams. There is where the depth is so important where 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th string players can move up based on their performance and practice. Heck, even a former 6th string QB named Moniz moved up and is now starting!!!!! With that said, I’m rooting for my favorite player, Corey Neilson. I’ve never met the guy, but based on what I’ve read he’s a smart young man and he was rated higher than Graves and Shutter by Scout.com and Rivals.com. I hope something just clicks in his brain that one day he says “I got it” how to play QB in this offense, the same way Colt Brennan got it after the first year. Good luck to him. I’m also very high on Beau Yap, T.J., and Dee Maggitt and look for good things from them. One guy, I’m very, very interested in is Desmond Dean. Is he the only Texan on the team now? I hope he turns into a great one and I hope he has a great motor and a relentless pass rusher.

All these questions, so much expectations, so much excitement. And as always, as Al would say, we continue to look for the holy grail. Here are the holy grails so far recently and presently.

Football – to be determined (last one Colt Brennan-Heisman Finalist)

Basketball – to be determined (last one Anthony Carter, WAC Player of the Year) ***

Men’s Volleyball – Jonas Umlauft (1st team All American)

Women’s Volleyball – Kanani Danielson (1st team All American)

Softball – Kelly Majam, until we find the dominating pitcher!

Baseball – Kolton Wong, I think.

***If Carl English stayed for his Senior season he might have been a holy grail also. He was told by some people that we would be a first round draft pick in the NBA and entered early. Wrong! He wasn’t even drafted period! Savovic was also a great player. He had no fear shooting and was supremely confident.

  37. al March 21, 2011 10:06 am

st…yah i used to be one of those kids.

i can’t even get #2 to do it for a fee.

we hired this man to do our yard. he did a great job. but the boss overpaid him at $80. i can’t afford that much and now i can’t ask him back less money.

  38. jm2375 March 21, 2011 10:07 am

OK, so I won’t miss a home game, but almost a month without a home game? yikes!

Seems like we always play Nevada at Reno when it’s cold. So what else is new?

    Homecoming – NaMaSU or USU?

  39. 808Fringe March 21, 2011 10:08 am

I like the schedule. Already booked Oct 15 and Nov 12. Need to check with a friend who owns a cabin up in North Lake Tahoe for the Nevada game and I think I’ll still be in this condo in October for the SJ game. Nice! I all set yo!

  40. Stretch March 21, 2011 10:09 am

CRAP!! It would have worked out so much better if UH played at San Jose on Oct 8 since Monday is a holiday. Oh well….

  41. jm2375 March 21, 2011 10:10 am

Derek – I blame the guys who told Carl English that he would be drafted early, but I don’t fault English for leaving. He had already graduated, so there wasn’t much to keep him here.

  42. Pochonese March 21, 2011 10:10 am

Speaking of Brigham Young I love it when they ring my doorbell and I answer holding a shotgun.

  43. jojo &3174; March 21, 2011 10:13 am

to Vegas or not to Vegas, that is the question

  44. al March 21, 2011 10:13 am

derek…that favorite of yours knows the system. problem has to do with vertical challenges. he may have been a victim of the 2″ rule as he is listed as 5’11” but appears to be…when lineman are 6’4″ that is challenging.

  45. jojo® March 21, 2011 10:13 am

    mind not thinking!

  46. al March 21, 2011 10:15 am

    jojo &3174…?

  47. al March 21, 2011 10:16 am

oh okay…that’s better girl. so you are registered now as one of a kind huh?

yah, i guess you are one of a kind.

  48. al March 21, 2011 10:19 am

at least we get a break between the two wac away games.

i believe we have a realistic chance to win the wac again.

we could actually win 12 games this year. the non-conf games though are critical to achieving such.

  49. Stephen Tsai March 21, 2011 10:22 am

    Jojo:

    There is no question.

    Go to Vegas.

Even if there’s no game, go to Vegas.

The WAC is having its summer meetings in Salt Lake, and I’m even thinking of making the drive or plane ride to Vegas.

Oh, wait, that’s a sign of sickness.

  50. al March 21, 2011 10:23 am

derek…i’d put moniz in the “grail” category for getting us in to the mwc. he could achieve “holy grail” by year’s end, but, we’d have to win some big ones first.

the first two games may be as tough as we have had in a long time. a lot teams would schedule softer in the opening two games just to get on a roll. but not hawaii.

  51. Stretch March 21, 2011 10:24 am

#49 – and I bet you are going to be staying in Shreveport for the La Tech game….

  52. jojo® March 21, 2011 10:26 am

Stephen Tsai, but all I do in Vegas is lounge at the pool! I don’t gamble, just pool, shop, eat, sleep. The question is it nice outside in September to be by the pool? Then go to the game after being by the pool all day.

  53. al March 21, 2011 10:38 am

picking up stretch’s subliminal message prompted me to google the city of shreveport, la. i specifically targeted my search for shreveport, la – casinos.

bingo! (amongst other games of chance)

  54. al March 21, 2011 10:39 am

gee…jojo. you’d be better off in the bahamas, cabo wabo, or the beach at waikiki.

  55. Stephen Tsai March 21, 2011 10:42 am

    JoJo:

Then you’d better ask Rich2176 to get you a room at the Venetian. Great hotel, every room is a suite.

  56. Stephen Tsai March 21, 2011 10:45 am

    Al:

Shreveport indeed has casinos. But they’re very bad for visitors.

Just remember the 49ers are in the shape they are today because of a Louisiana casino.

  57. jojo® March 21, 2011 10:45 am

which is why I question if I should Vegas or not….hmmm

  58. Stephen Tsai March 21, 2011 10:46 am

Of course you should go to Vegas. Malls are right up there with casinos.

  59. jojo® March 21, 2011 10:48 am

    Venetian is by the mall!

  60. NorthShoreFan March 21, 2011 10:48 am

Been to the Venetian for the Phantom. Really attractive “casino”.

  61. koakane™ March 21, 2011 10:49 am

When I wuz purdy-young,(13-16 y.o.), my muddah used to have me do yard chores on my weekends from sunrise2sunset, working in the yard…and I promised myself to never do yard work once I wuz grown and had my own home……what can I say?!…mission accomplished!!

Been to Shreveport gambling joints/bars……mighty hairy in the evenings…..make sure for protection sake…you got a bunch of folks moving about from casino/bars in the evenings.

    Just sayin!!

  70. Stretch March 21, 2011 11:16 am

what is everyone doing Christmas Eve at 3pm??

McTruck – thanks for the warning about Shreveport, I could have used it 2 years ago. ST didn’t warn me and I got raped in the casinos.

  71. mctruck March 21, 2011 11:21 am

Pirahnas sighting on the Ala Wai……..time to break out my fishing gear!!!, yeeeehaaa!!!

  74. Da Punchbowl Kid March 21, 2011 11:25 am

Thrashing Colorado would be a great start.

  75. Da Punchbowl Kid March 21, 2011 11:26 am

Thrashing BYU would make a good regular season ending.

  76. Da Punchbowl Kid March 21, 2011 11:27 am

Come to fink of it, jes thrash ’em all!

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  79. mctruck March 21, 2011 11:29 am

I hope we can schedule, BYU and Colorado every year….along with the service schools.

  80. ai-eee-soos March 21, 2011 11:30 am

    the Wac sked

Looks like Nevada has a bye on Nov 5, then hosts Hawaii (12) and LaTech (19).

    Favorable for Nevada.

  81. al March 21, 2011 11:32 am

Things are heating up. Where’s the AC?

  82. al March 21, 2011 11:34 am

    mctruck…my sentiments…exactly.

if i had my druthers i’d pave the whole yard.

  83. Stretch March 21, 2011 11:36 am

I know I always post this when the schedule comes out but we have to schedule at least one home game against a service academy each year. With UH joining the MWC, it’s going to help with Air Force coming in every other year. Army and Navy need to be mixed in.

  84. al March 21, 2011 11:38 am

jojo…seriously speaking lounging in the pool aside. best malls are in vegas. which one to go to??? two outlet malls, three major malls, and a handful of strip malls (not joints…well that too).

food? las vegas is the food capital of the united states.

    mandalay bay pool is awesome.

downtown?…golden nugget has a year round pool with a huge shark tank that sits in the middle of the pool. and they serve cocktails in the pool.

  85. HawaiiMongoose March 21, 2011 11:39 am

UH’s best near-term chance to make a run at another undefeated or near-undefeated season is this coming year. Moniz is a senior, the OOC games are tough but winnable, and in 2012 and 2013 we’ll have both USC and Boise State on the schedule. Gotta make hay while the sun is shining!

  86. al March 21, 2011 11:40 am

    agree stretch.

and yes let’s give out 5k free tickets when we do to the military inspite of what some female bloggers said.

  87. Stephen Tsai March 21, 2011 11:42 am

HawaiiMongoose is correct. All of the games are winnable. Doesn’t mean the Warriors will win ’em all. But they should be favored in most of the games.

  88. al March 21, 2011 11:43 am

    basketball viewpoint.

while the gibber has given his team a week off…i am sure that he will spend some well deserved time with the arnold 5 this week. but, i’ll bet that he’ll also be on the road very soon in search of the next anthony carter.

    the guy never quits working.

  89. Stephen Tsai March 21, 2011 11:44 am

    Question:

If it’s a perjury trial, what makes the prosecutor think that Barry Bonds’ testimony will be truthful?

  90. al March 21, 2011 11:49 am

the colorado and uw games represent a whole lot more than just trying to beat the pac12.

it has become a chest match between the coaches of both staffs. what adjustments and countermoves will they make this year?

i am sure the returnees want colorado real bad.

i still remember that uw game in 07…that stamped permanent the holy grail.

both games have HUGE recruiting bragging rights at stake.

can’t wait for those games to roll along (drools).

  91. al March 21, 2011 11:50 am

89…that is a good one. (tips cap)

but of course the answer is…”gee, i don’t recall saying that.”

  95. ai-eee-soos March 21, 2011 11:59 am

    … looking ahead …

    from HA sports

” The Sheraton Hawaii Bowl will remain on Christmas Eve this year, the game announced today.

Kickoff for the 10th annual game will be 3 p.m. on Dec. 24, Saturday, at Aloha Stadium, officials said.

The game, which is owned and operated by ESPN Regional Television, is scheduled to be shown on ESPN. “”

  104. mctruck March 21, 2011 12:33 pm

    Al,

gotta tell you bout my sweet muddah when I got my own home back in Hawaii by Castle Hospital; she noticed that I had a yard boy coming by to mow my lawn which wuz kinda sloppy, and she remarked how I should save money and do it myself….yeah, right!? After I emphatically replied a big, “NO WAY!!” based on my pass childh/teen-agehood(s) experience(s)……she replied; “you pay me then, and I’ll do the year work!” I replied, “shootzee!” you-on!!

Well, so the day came for when my yard boy usually came bye to do my lawn…..o.k., so mommy rolls-up her sleeves and goes out to do her lawn-mowing…..I can hear her trying to start-up the lawn mower over and over again, and actually, nothing is happening?!

After about fifteen/twenty minutes later…she comes back into the hale and exclaims….”son, I cannot start-up da lawn mower?!….to which I said, “you fired!!” She broke-out laughing and I said in response…….”now you know how I felt when I wuz, a yard boy?!” We would never forget that experience….may she rest in peace; and not from the yard work.

  105. mctruck March 21, 2011 12:35 pm

    shud be yard, not year.

  106. jm2375 March 21, 2011 12:35 pm

UH has appeared in six of the Hawaii Bowls UH will represent the WAC this year provided the Rainbow Warriors win 7 or more of their 13 games to become bowl eligible.

Did Joe Moore write this? 🙄

  115. RedZone March 21, 2011 1:38 pm

Tough start to beginning of the season. Coaches won’t have much time to come up with a traveling squad early on. Players need to come in tip top condition and ready to play. Traveling to LA Tech will test their conditioning and it is nice that the Warriors will have a break after the trip to Ruston.

  116. mctruck March 21, 2011 1:38 pm

I see Tennesse’s bb coach just got fired due to indicretions….so now both the fb and bb programs are in hot water?..how the mighty have fallen…good for dem. It’s about time the NCAA flex their muscles?!…keep it up….next, up….Ohio St., and Auburn.

  117. wafan March 21, 2011 1:39 pm

Glad Fresno finally has their act together and finished up their schedule. So inconsiderate of them to mess up the WAC’y offices and the other schools.

    HA!

    http://www.gazettetimes.com/sports/beavers-sports/article_586c7338-540e-11e0-bd89-001cc4c03286.html

Oregon State football coach Mike Riley finalized his coaching staff with a stunning upheaval Monday, a week before spring practice starts.

After striving to keep his latest group of coaches together going into their third year there are two new ones for the coming season.

Chris Brasfield, a former Oregon graduate assistant, was hired to replace running backs coach Reggie Davis, who left to be the tight ends coach for the San Francisco 49ers in February.

Long-time defensive assistant Greg Newhouse was replaced by Brent Brennan. Brennan, however, will coach the wide receivers. Last year’s receivers coach Jay Locey moved back to tight ends.

  123. Derek March 21, 2011 2:02 pm

Al, dynamite comes in small packages. 5’11” is big enough. Guys like Todd Reesing from Kansas who led them to an Oranage Bowl victory and Doug Flutie who won the Heiman Trophy are at best 5’11”. Heck, Kellen Moore is lucky if he’s even 6’0″ and he’s good enough.

The question is ability. CN needs to do it on the field. He’s just a redshirt sophomore so he’s got to start stepping up his play in practice this year and something has to happen to give himself an opportunity. Maybe it is getting stronger, throwing the ball better, making better decisions, better leadership, or mental toughness, or maybe all of them. I hope he does it.

In my mind, Moniz is not holy grail yet. He stunk in the Boise St. game and played terrible in the Hawaii Bowl. He didn’t play well in the second half against Colorado, a game we should have won. Yeah, he threw for over 5,000 yards, but the system can create a lot of big numbers. To me, the only thing that really counts is winning. Plus, he was not All WAC first team and his passing efficiency wasn’t in the top 10. He’s pretty close, but this year is the year he has the opportunity to get there and take it to the next level if,

    1) The team is 13-0, the team win the WAC title and hopefully take the team to a BCS Bowl.

    2) Or, the team is 12-1, win the WAC title, take a team to a bowl game and win it.

    3) Named WAC player of the year, or All WAC 1st team QB

    4) In the top 10 in the Heisman Balloting

The standard has been set at Hawaii if you’re a QB in a run and shoot offense. You have to get Brennan like performances because he’s the holy grail by definition. In other words, he has to be real good. Really, really, really good!!!!

Congratulations to holy grail Jonas Umlauft for beng National Player of the Week. His legend grows, only a sophomore. I pray he will stay through his Senior season. But, he needs a good supporting cast for us to win the National title. He can’t do it alone. Nobody can do it alone! Nobody is named God!

Didn’t realize he was the first UH player since 2006 to get Natl POW.

  127. airsumo March 21, 2011 3:20 pm

Game in Vegas in Sept. should be a scorcher, literally. Average daytime temps should be approximately 115 degrees. Temperature at midnight is 100 degrees.

  129. HawaiiMongoose March 21, 2011 4:26 pm

Las Vegas is hot, but not that hot. In mid-September the average daily high is 94 degrees and the average daily low is 69 degrees.

Nice to end with 3 game home stand.

    ….FOUR! including Christmas Eve! 🙂

  131. d1shima March 21, 2011 4:38 pm

The temps for the ’07 UNLV game was brutal in the stands. Most on the visitor sideline were just hanging out below the stands right up until kickoff…right by the beer stands. Then everyone went rushing out into the blazing sun…no wonder there were so many fights!

    ’09 was much more comfortable.

derek…5’11” is marginal yes. but, applying the 2″ rule makes it difficult.

  139. al March 21, 2011 5:23 pm

umlauft is very good. however, not quite holy grail status, not yet.

we need a dominant middle to free up the outside. then he could approach hg status because the team also needs to have success.

  141. Michigan Warrior March 21, 2011 5:28 pm

  142. Michigan Warrior March 21, 2011 5:29 pm

Still not sure if I’d be able to drop in for the Vegas game… playing that one by ear for now.

  143. Derek March 21, 2011 5:33 pm

Things are heating up. Where’s the AC.

Umlauft has 2 1/2 years left to do it. But, even though Yuval Katz didn’t win a National Championship I thought he was the holy grail. He also had the flair and put full packed houses at the Stanley. In time, Jonas can get there w/ a good supporting cast. Yeah, would help if we have a great middle blocker too.

  144. Satch March 21, 2011 5:34 pm

Derek, you are so right on in your assessment of Bryant Moniz not being a Holy Grail. Also, chg. the subj. a little, I get deeply distressed whenever the local yokel news media extol all kind of praises of the Hawaii offense and is tops nationally offensively but whenever Hawaii plays teams of equal caliber or talent, what happens…..POOF! Offense disappears….Moniz disappears!! Only against subpar teams can Hawaii chalk up great statistics offensively…oh, well…..lets see when they go up against Colorado, Washington, BYU this year as I have great faith….I will squeeze my gluteus maximum sitting in the stands or watching on cable….that they will persevere and go on to a championship season……cheers!

  145. Garret March 21, 2011 5:51 pm

The schedule looks pretty good to me. I *love* UH having their bye week after going to Ruston and before another road game. The extra days from the bye week are perfect for getting over the trip to Ruston and making up for the day lost in traveling to San Jose. Great bye week placement!

It looks like UH’s final 2 WAC games will probably determine who wins the WAC title. It is kind of like UH is ending WAC play early and starting MWC play a little early.

Ending with so many home games in a row is nice…as long as the Warriors do well on the road early in the season. I would hate to see attendance drop if UH struggles early in the season with the new OL and the traditional slow start of the offense.

  146. Garret March 21, 2011 5:54 pm

I love how UH always seems to play UNLV within a day of my birthday. My wife knows that what I want for my birthday is that trip to Vegas, and it will be great to see so many UH fans there again.

San Jose in October should be nice. My big new customer is in Silicon Valley and I guess I will have to schedule a meeting that “coincidentally” occurs on the Friday before the game.

The rest of the games will be hard for me to attend due to work and events at my kids’ school, but maybe I can make the Hawaii Bowl again.

  147. Garret March 21, 2011 5:56 pm

Fresno State getting a Friday ESPN home game vs. BSU means that they will get the $75k “inconvenience fee” for moving a game away from Saturday. Considering how badly ESPN is cutting the WAC’s TV deal, if Fresno State gets 2 Friday home games on ESPN they might actually make more from ESPN then the other WAC schools.

  148. Warrior Dave March 21, 2011 5:57 pm

Things are heating up. Where’s the AC?

  149. Garret March 21, 2011 5:58 pm

I don’t like Nevada getting a bye week before playing UH at home. Lots of time for them to prepare for UH’s offense.

I *do* like Fresno State playing a WAC road game the week before having to travel to Hawaii to play UH. Back-to-back WAC games in Las Cruces and Hawaii will hopefully tire them out a little. It also reduces their prep time for UH.

On this day (March 21) in the first year (2007) of The Warrior Beat blog … count climbs higher to 381 comments as the pending announcement of a 2nd D-1AA team looms. gigi-hawaii is encouraged to attend the games in person and the blog offers her tips and suggestions on a new TV. Here’s how a 52″ Sony Bravia TV joins Bubbling Tofu Soup in Tsai-ko lore.

    Comment from: Stephen [Member]

I’ve posted occasionally as Kelli, but since Kelley is a regular I thought it only fair to change my moniker to avoid confusion down the line…

I’ve put down my $50 deposit for season tickets. I hope more fans will do the same. If the schedule was complete there would have been thousands, not hundreds, of deposits by now….

Ah…dear old Al read my blog today. Yep, I became a rabid warrior fan in Sept 1999 when I watched UH pound BSU.

But I doubt the stadium experience could ever be as good as watching the game on PPV.

Hubby is buying a 52 inch TV so we will really be able to watch the coaches’ and athletes’ faces up close. Something you can’t do at the stadium.

    03/21/07 @ 10:00

    Comment from: al [Visitor]

actually gg i haven’t read your blog today. but, i can read your mind now.

    03/21/07 @ 10:05

    Comment from: SteveM [Visitor]

Yes, gigi… go the game. Some of your good friends here will make the sacrifice to provide a security detail for your new 52″+ TV that night. Get a bigger model and we’ll increase the size of the detail and even ask bulla to supervise.

    03/21/07 @ 10:28

    Comment from: Stretch [Visitor]

gigi – Section M loges, next to the visiting coaches has a bunch of empty seats.. And guess what?? HF sits in the next booth over. I am sure he can hear you if you yell at him. My first note on the whiteboard is not to the visiting coaches but to HF for creating this mess!!

    03/21/07 @ 10:44

    Comment from: prideperiod [Visitor]

Gigi…my moto…you are what you are…not what you say you are. you are the “social director”, “organizer”. As a matter of fact, simce we want you to have the ultimate Warrior experience. About thirty of us will follow you to your house after the tailgater at the first game, and watch the game with you from your home. We will be dressed up like Vili lookalikes, and cheer so loudly that your neighbors will call HPD. When HPD shows up, the young patrol officers will be invited in to eat and drink and forget why they came over in the first place. Yeah, thats what we’ll do. Gigi, hubby, and the “30”.

    03/21/07 @ 14:13

    Comment from: SteveM [Visitor]

Remember gigi, I offered you the security detail to watch guard your new TV and home first. BTW, what’s the weight limit on your furniture?

    🙂

    03/21/07 @ 14:31

    Comment from: gigi-hawaii [Visitor]

Well, if I end up buying season tickets, I will certainly pick you up, Jason. Don’t want you to walk to the stadium like last time.

    03/21/07 @ 16:20

    Comment from: gigi-hawaii [Visitor]

Garret, if you bought a 51 inch TV, that means with the speakers on the side, it measured 55 inches.

Hubby measured our corner and determined it’s too small for a 55 incher. So he will buy a 46 incher. One model with speakers measures 50 inches. But the model with no speakers on the sides measures much less.

what a headache. He watches TV far more than I do. But we both want the best TV experience possible.

    03/21/07 @ 22:01

    Comment from: SteveM [Visitor]

We met 4 more “new”out-of-state bloggers today, bringing the total to 42 confirmed and 3-4 unconfirmed. If you see someone who mentions he/she is a first-time poster here, please ask them for their city and state (or country).

gigi– Al gave some good advice about large screen TV’s. I have a 42″ Sam Sung plasma in the living room and a 32″ LCD Sony Bravia in my work room. My two cents is to get the Sony Bravia…the 52″ model is 55.1” wide and I would really try to make it fit…walls and cabinets are expendable 😉

    Good night…

    03/22/07 @ 00:44

    Comment from: gigi-hawaii [Visitor]

wow, it’s 1 am. Time to hit the sack.

    good night.

SteveM, I told hubby what you said about the walls and cabinets. Hubby decided to go ahead and buy the 55 incher. He said the TV swivels plus he will move the cabinet, so the TV will fit.

    03/22/07 @ 01:07

    Comment from: Stretch [Visitor]

gigi – IMHO, you should get the 1080p resolution tv. I picked up the 50″ Samsung DLP w/ 1080p resolution. I can’t complain. I am only watching the HD stations right now. Checking into getting Dish or Direct TV to get more HD stations.

    03/22/07 @ 07:10

    Comment from: gigi-hawaii [Visitor]

    Garret,

We need a TV stand in order to store our DVD recorder, VCR, and cable box. So your type of TV wouldn’t work for us.

Yeah, a 52 inch TV will actually be 55 inches wide because of the speakers on the side. But, it swivels. So we will be able to move it if we have to open the cabinet doors.

    03/22/07 @ 07:53

    al [Visitor]

    gigi,

remember there are two types of bravia. the one you want is the bravia xbr which is the 1080p vs 720p.

also, don’t scrimp on the connectors. there is a difference in quality.

again, the extended warranty is money well spent. the cost of repairs and parts are astronomical these days. make sure the warranty covers in-home repair.

    03/22/07 @ 07:54

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.

  215. tmax March 30, 2011 2:49 am

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

Nice! Really nice! I’ve been blog-hopping for almost two hours now and this one is the best read I’ve had thus far. I can’t believe the amount of trash that people are churning out these days. No wonder blogging is said to be dying. Oh well… Anyway, bodybuilding is definitely not for the weak of heart (literally and figuratively). If one is planning on getting into body building and building muscles big and huge, first he/she has got to make sure that he/she has a strong determination to work until the attainment of his/her goal, and that is to get all bulked up and “ripped” (as we use in the bodybuilding parlance). Being aware that building muscles takes months or even years will help a lot as this will eliminate any false presumptions and ridiculous goals.
