Unkindest cut

As pointed out by a UH person, the most puzzling thing about the Upper Campus’ call for voluntary pay cuts is that two-year commitments are sought.

The thing is, the assistant coaches are limited to one-year contracts.

So UH is seeking longer commitments to voluntary pay cuts than to the services of the assistant coaches.

If cornerback Tank Hopkins wore a watch, it would be set to Warrior time.

During the offseason, Hopkins is one of the first to arrive at unsupervised workouts and always the last to leave. He does not even try to make “last call” at the dorm cafeteria, which closes at 6:30 p.m.

“I get tired,” Hopkins said. “I try to push myself through it. I keep going. It’s  a mind thing. Once you get past that, you’re OK.”

Then again, Hopkins, who transferred from a junior college in 2009, has a reserve of unspent energy. He received a medical hardship for the 2010 season to recovery from a pelvic injury.

“It makes you miss the game,” Hopkins said of the hiatus, “and it makes you want to do more than you did.”

Hopkins, who exited spring training as the No. 1 left cornerback, might have an expanded role. Punt returner Samson Anguay was diagnosed with a torn ACL in his right knee. Hopkins is listed as the No. 2 punt returner.

“I hope he gets better,” Hopkins said. “Nobody likes to see a teammate get hurt. I know what it’s like to be hurt.”

Hopkins said he has practiced punt returns by fielding punts from kicker Tyler Hadden.

In his free time — he is enrolled in the first summer session — Hopkins studies videos of cornerbacks.

“I look at everybody,” he said. “I look at people in college and the NFL. I study every corner, and I study all of the defenses. I want to see the different techniques.”

Defensive back Jack Damuni, who joins on the first day of school, has been participating in unsupervised workouts:

Quarterback Shane Austin overthrew wideout Allen Sampson …

And because Austin is a perfectionist, he ordered himself to do pushups as punishment:

But Sampson, who has adjusted well to the move from slotback, made a wide-open grab of another Austin pass:

Kana Silva, the younger brother of former UH safety Mana Silva, makes a catch:

There’s a lot of versatility. I can envision John Hardy-Tuliau as a receiver:

Same with Aaron Brown:

Although I think Gus Cunningham is a way better safety than quarterback:

And David Graves is definitely sticking to QB:

Heading off to a mtg this AM. Hope to be able to crash the cc at Hale Ikena. Gonna miss calling for the Curveball over the outside corner at our tailgates…

Got to see Wessie Warrior before he flew out over the Cuckoo’s nest yesterday. It’ll be *lights out* for him in Michigan as he moves down to the deep south. Safe travels to him and the family.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHOPSUEY BOY!

  10. gigi-hawaii June 23, 2011 7:40 am

Being a coach is a precarious job, any way you look at it.

    Fans are fickle.

Pay cuts are bad, but getting fired is worse!

  11. Pomai June 23, 2011 7:48 am

So UH is seeking longer commitments to voluntary pay cuts than to the services of the assistant coaches.

This doesn’t surprise me in the least.

  12. MysteryPerson June 23, 2011 7:50 am

    Pomai,

Curious to know why there was no mention of Austin Wilkerson’s softball signing?

  13. OTTO June 23, 2011 7:52 am

Nevada’s Ault took a base pay cut, but I think they increased his incentives… I think Pat Hill did the same… top 15…

  14. Da Punchbowl Kid June 23, 2011 7:58 am

    Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂

Sorry I won’t make the CC, but the best wishes go out to curveball from Sweety and I. Take care brother!

Top Twenty! Good Morning to Tom and al.

  15. Da Punchbowl Kid June 23, 2011 8:00 am

Paycuts… the new normal. Thanks to our wonderful coaches for all the sacrifices they make, this one included.

  16. Stephen Tsai June 23, 2011 8:08 am

    Economies are different.

In Nevada, you can buy a house for $100,000 now. One of our co-workers did.

  17. mctruck June 23, 2011 8:15 am

    Happy Birthday-ChopsueyBoy.

    That being said…lunch time, laters

    Have a great day Tsakos.

  18. Old Diver June 23, 2011 8:19 am

The one year contract for assistant coaches makes comparing their salary to a tenured professors salary silly. How many tenured professors would give up tenure for a higher salary?

  19. al June 23, 2011 8:20 am

    happy birthday chopsuey-man!

    (aren’t you 21 by now?)

  20. warriorsun June 23, 2011 8:21 am

i dont see the problem with the two-year voluntary cuts, notwithstanding contracts that run one year. unless of course, u r a bean-counter and need the center-line when driving. essentially the volunteer cut will extend an additional year if your contract is extended. good lawyers can put a chinese puzzle together–face down. the pieces fit.

tank is a senior and putting in his sweat equity. wonderful example. that is the importance seniors bring to the fold–maturity and work ethos. best wishes to hopkins!

  21. al June 23, 2011 8:27 am

curveball on the outside corner…strike three he’s out!

i, too, am gonna miss saying that as salutation at the tailgaters.

    aloha brother!

what better way to share the love than with your grandkids?

make memories where ever you go.

sorry to miss your cc today as i am in maui. perhaps we’ll toast you later at tiffany’s (whitey, duffer, and the kid).

God bless you and you all come back now…you hear?

    …nuff said.

    GOOD DAY ONE AND ALL!

DPK – beat me to it again – hate to get up in the morning.

CHOPSUEYBOY – Happy birthday – got to come in for a malt & waffledog!

  23. Stephen Tsai June 23, 2011 8:30 am

I think the tenure system is a good one for professors.

You need a PhD to be a UH professor, and that requires as many years of school as an MD. If a professor does a reasonably good job for several years, he/she deserves the job security.

It’s different for an assistant coach. I know a few that are earning a decent wage, but can’t buy a house here because there’s no guarantee they’ll have jobs next year. Take a guy like Mike Cavanaugh. He did a great job and he loved it here. But he had to leave here to buy a house.

Now I suppose there are ways for anybody to buy a house. But isn’t that what led to the mortgage crisis, which led to the recession, which led to Chris Ault’s pay cut. I’m just sayin’.

  24. warriorsun June 23, 2011 8:31 am

chris ault turned down $25,000 in earned incentives from this past season and took a 5% voluntary cut to boot. he was the lowest paid coach on the AP top 25 last year and now earns $435,000 per year.

his contract was bumped another two years.

now, that is called giving one for the program.

  25. Stephen Tsai June 23, 2011 8:33 am

It’s no coincidence the pay-cut pledges must be made by the day before the end of the fiscal year.

  26. Slugger June 23, 2011 8:34 am

    Good morning, gang!

    Happy Birthday,chopsueyboy!

GO TANK!!! Great to see him healthy. Wonderful work ethic!

    Hey, Jack!

    Congrats to Terence aka RoyGBivs!

ST ~ Are you coming to lunch today? I have something for Terence (ROYGBIVS). Mahalo!

  27. Stephen Tsai June 23, 2011 8:35 am

Ault should be commended for taking a pay cut. But a $435,000 salary in Nevada is worth more than the same in Hawaii. Not all tax laws are created equally.

  28. Stephen Tsai June 23, 2011 8:36 am

    Slugger:

Is Terence aka RoyGBivs coming to lunch today? I really don’t like to stand in post office lines.

  29. Stephen Tsai June 23, 2011 8:37 am

Hope to make lunch today, but not sure. I’ve got an appointment with a specialist today.

  30. Couch potato June 23, 2011 8:42 am

again i must say, good pictures of the Warriors in action.

  31. iwonderwhytheyhateme June 23, 2011 8:43 am

    1%…every bit does count.

  32. Slugger June 23, 2011 8:46 am

    jmxxxx,

Do you know if Terence aka RoyGBivs is coming to lunch?

  33. Couch potato June 23, 2011 8:47 am

steve-o. could be that there is no mention of Austin Wilkerson’s signing because she hasn’t signed yet. she may have verbally committed and got accepted to attend UH but never sign on the underscore. be patient, if it happens it happens. get plenty time for you to jot down bashing notes for next season.

    rat bait is set.

  34. Couch potato June 23, 2011 8:49 am

    ST can type s p e c i a l i s t without being moderated?

  35. Couch potato June 23, 2011 8:50 am

ummm, why don’t you ask Terence aka RoyGBivs if Terence aka RoyGBivs is coming to lunch?

  36. iwonderwhytheyhateme June 23, 2011 8:51 am

    #23,

Cavanaugh is the name i hear the most from fans saying they wish he was still here.

I feel for some of these coaches who have moved around the country for the better part of their careers. Must be hard on kids/family to relocate often. Unless you were with Penn State or Florida State or something.

  37. al June 23, 2011 8:54 am

    too funny…couch potato.

    that was a good one.

may i call you ouch potato now?

  38. Da Punchbowl Kid June 23, 2011 8:54 am

Happy Birthday to one of the most interesting bloggers, chopsueyboy.

Love to see the pics Mr. Tsai. Shows that the kids are really working hard. Can you recall when we’ve had such well attended summer work outs?

You pose some interesting scenarios about players/postions. Can’t wait til the season starts.

    Keep working hard, Tank!

  39. al June 23, 2011 8:56 am

36….cav was a good one that got away.

his son has shown some interest in becoming a warrior…i wonder?

Rules committee proposes changes (NCAA women’s softball)

Delayed dead ball to ‘advantage the defense’ leads actions

(I found no need to ALTER Greg Johnson’s article… like some people..)

    http://www.ncaa.com/news/softball/2011-06-17/rules-committee-proposes-changes

In other actions, the committee also approved the following:

    • A batter hit by a pitch in the batter’s box will not be required to attempt to get out of the way of the pitch in order to be awarded first base.

    • Brick backstops and brick home-run fences will be required to be padded by the 2016 season.

    • Host teams must provide 12 softballs, two of which need to be brand new, before a game begins. Previously, the host teams had to provide five softballs for a game. The rationale for the proposed change is to make more softballs available for game play to help the flow of the game.

    • The committee reiterated that all lines on the playing field, the pitcher’s plate, home plate and the three bases shall be white, which would disallow the use of colors for special tributes. The playing field lines shall be marked before each game, including the second game of a double header and each game of a tournament.

    • The group also reaffirmed that the effect for an illegal pitch should remain a ball on the batter and baserunners advancing one base. The committee considered several alternatives, including warnings and not advancing the runner but, in the end, the group agreed to maintain the current penalty.

    Good morning Tsaikos!!

    Happy Birthday chopsueyboy!!

    Congrats to RoyGBivs.

    (Slugger – he didn’t RSVP.)

Problem with the tenure system is once a faculty member gets tenure and is a full professor, it’s difficult to get some of them to produce (publications, grants, etc)! Many people have called for the end of the tenure system. Someone in an Upper Campus dept once told me that if they got rid of the non-producing tenured faculty, they’d save at least $1M.

  42. iwonderwhytheyhateme June 23, 2011 9:07 am

Pretty funny article on Coach Cav and his parallels to Rex Ryan.

  45. Stephen Tsai June 23, 2011 9:18 am

    States don’t.

  46. SteveM June 23, 2011 9:19 am

  47. Stephen Tsai June 23, 2011 9:19 am

Do Pro Bowl players have to pay Hawaii state taxes?

  48. Stephen Tsai June 23, 2011 9:21 am

I think “specialist” does not need approval.

It depends on the adjective used with specialist.

  49. Couch potato June 23, 2011 9:23 am

since coach cav is at another university, anyone know if any of his players play in the NFL?

  52. Stephen Tsai June 23, 2011 9:24 am

All I know is I never have problems when I use WiFi.

But when I use the Verizon call card to access the Internet, the WB site will crash, and I’ll get a picture of a gator telling me the WB doesn’t exist.

Sort of like that old scenario: “You met a woman named Jane? There was a woman named Jane who used to live here. But she died 20 years ago …”

  53. Old Diver June 23, 2011 9:25 am

    #23

Exactly, I’m all for tenure, I just believe without job security a higher salary is required to get qualified people.

  54. Stephen Tsai June 23, 2011 9:34 am

Seems like there are more good professors than bad, although when I think of professors, I think of those inventors who get abducted and need to be rescued by Superman.

Hey, I read a lot of comics when I was a kid.

  55. SteveM June 23, 2011 9:40 am

    RE: #52

ST — you’ve been using that cellular modem card for years. Do all web site crash or just the WB when you try to log in as you? If so, mention this to Scott…might be a firewall thing as indicated by the gator pix.

Yes, WIFI is good. Only thing theoretically better is an ethernet cable whenever you can be tethered to one. 🙂

  56. SteveM June 23, 2011 9:42 am

I thought the professor on Gilligan’s Isle was pretty good…

  57. Couch potato June 23, 2011 9:46 am

    SteveM. fiber optic is faster.

  58. Stephen Tsai June 23, 2011 9:54 am

Actually, this card is from the S-A, so it’s only been about a year. Maybe there’s a firewall or something because the blog is on an old HA site.

  59. Innocent Observer June 23, 2011 10:13 am

If the assistant coaches are required to pledge a 2-year salary reductiion committment, are they unwittingly or intentionally telling them that they essentially have a two year contract instead if one, if they make the committment?

  60. A-House June 23, 2011 10:14 am

    educational tenureship =s civil service?

once in cannot not get rid of unless one moves mountains, very large mountains!

  61. Kevin June 23, 2011 10:15 am

I’ve seen that blue gator MANY times.

He seems happy I cannot read the blog sometimes.

  62. Pride. June 23, 2011 10:27 am

    Congratulations Terence aka RoyGBivs!

  64. d1shima (Aria'd) June 23, 2011 10:39 am

  65. d1shima (Aria'd) June 23, 2011 10:42 am

Hoping to make it to curveball’s Aloha cc albeit a little late.

  66. Derek June 23, 2011 10:44 am

Is it just me, but I think JHT is looking a lot bigger and nastier. He’s going to have a monster year. Also, the following in my opinion will have big years and make a big impact:

    1) Aaron Brown, LB; this guy just makes big plays, and he plays fast and he hits hard.

    2) Darius Bright, WR; with his size, speed, and height he’s the perfect alley oop pass in the end zone for a touchdown. What’s his vertical jump? I predict he’ll have more than 10 TDs this year.

    3) Kaniela Tuipulotu, DT – he’s on a mission this year; he’s pissed off that he wasn’t named to the All WAC 1st team last year. Other teams are going to pay this year.

    4) Tank Hopkins, CB; he has something to prove after sitting out last year because of an injury. He got burned against UNLV in 2009 in Vegas and he won’t let it happen again.

    5) Paipai Falemaru, DE; this has to be the breakout year for him and get a ton of sacks; he got better in the second half of the year last year.

    6) Moniz and Paredes – Bryant and Corey will continue to excel with numbing statistics. The question is, how much and how high will they produce.

    7) Potential, potential, potential – Beau Yap, Allan Sampson.

    8) Steady Eddie – Royce Pollard, WR; he’s as reliable as they go. At least 60+ catches and over 800+ yards; breakout year could be 80+ catches and close of 1,000 yds.

    9) Joey Iosefa, RB – Touchdown Jesus; his niche might be scoring in the red zone, especially inside the 5; with his leverage and power and low center of gravity he’s the next coming of the Bowling Ball. What is he, 6’0″ or 6’1″ and 245 lbs or 250 lbs? Hard to tackle.

  67. PONO June 23, 2011 10:44 am

The crazy guy picked the wrong guy to mess with. Paul Brown is a mountain of a man.

    Aloha curveball!

  78. gigi-hawaii June 23, 2011 12:28 pm

Talking about income taxes, I simply cannot fathom why a friend who made OVER $130K could not pay what she owed the IRS.

Hubby and I make much, much less, but we have always paid our taxes on time.

We never applied for an extension, either.

She is constantly applying for an extension.

Well, now, she has not paid the IRS since 2007.

    Good grief! Poor money management.

  79. gigi-hawaii June 23, 2011 12:30 pm

I heard that in Florida, you don’t have to pay income taxes.

    Is that true?

If so, Bess is in the best place to work and play!

  80. gigi-hawaii June 23, 2011 12:36 pm

You read about former athletes who made MILLIONS having to file for bankruptcy.

    That’s so heartbreaking.

  81. gigi-hawaii June 23, 2011 12:38 pm

    Another thing:

always pay off your credit card balance every month.

There should not be any carry over to the next month’s statement.

    Live within your means!

  82. gigi-hawaii June 23, 2011 12:39 pm

I grumble when I have a balance of $1900 to pay,

but I know someone who charges over $30K every month.

    sheesh!

  83. gigi-hawaii June 23, 2011 12:42 pm

with all foreclosure cases having to go thru the court system, I bet attorneys in Hawaii are ecstatic.

  84. chopsueyboy June 23, 2011 12:46 pm

    gigi-hawaii

    food topic

Having a great day, steak lunch from blue teppanyaki wagon.

$7 fresh off the grill with rice, onions, zuccini, & corn.

Tummy happy, time for a nap???

Not happening, still have more deliveries.

  85. gigi-hawaii June 23, 2011 12:50 pm

    chopsue boy,

    haha

guess what I had for lunch:

    peanut butter and jelly sandwich

    washed down with ice water!!!

  86. gigi-hawaii June 23, 2011 12:51 pm

    for dinner tonight,

    honey BBQ chicken wings

    and salad.

maybe washed down with a Corona?

  87. Curt June 23, 2011 12:56 pm

    gigi

There are a number of states where there are no state income taxes. They include: AK, FL, NV, SD TX, WA and WY. Lucky u live Hawaii. 🙂

  88. gigi-hawaii June 23, 2011 12:59 pm

    Curt,

    That’s news to me.

    Thanks for the info.

Now that we have no mortgage interest to deduct, we are trying to donate money to various charities so we can deduct donations.

  89. gigi-hawaii June 23, 2011 1:00 pm

don’t know if our donation to Hilina’i is deductible, though.

    probably not…

  90. A-House June 23, 2011 1:14 pm

    Gigi:

home mortgage interest will soon, in 2 or 3 years, will be a thing of history as Congress wrestles with balancing the Fed budget.

  91. gigi-hawaii June 23, 2011 1:24 pm

    A-house,

    I did not know that!

I am so glad we got our reverse mortgage this year,

because property market values have dropped significantly lately.

  92. gigi-hawaii June 23, 2011 1:26 pm

For example, our house was appraised at $610K in March.

As of last month, houses in Foster Village are being sold for $550K.

so we got our reverse mortgage just in time.

  93. Couch potato June 23, 2011 1:29 pm

live within your means??????? so why the reverse mortgage? is that not going beyond your means? utopia we do not live in. fallibility rules. okay, i’m woozy. i said woozy not ditsy.

  94. gigi-hawaii June 23, 2011 1:35 pm

    couch,

    please google reverse mortgage.

keep in mind that hubby’s salary was reduced by $23K

and his job situation is very tenuous.

now we can live in our house until we die without making any more mortgage payments.

  95. Couch potato June 23, 2011 1:46 pm

i know what a reverse mortgage entails. just saying that if you were to live within your means you wouldn’t need the reverse mortgage.

if my salary was reduced by $23k i wouldn’t be working at the same place anymore. time to pack up and move on. make yourself marketable and look elsewhere. even a new job that pays $10k less than what you were making is way better than the $23k reduction. loyalty to a company goes only so far.

if i got wind of having my salary restructured $23k less i would have immediately started looking elsewhere. there could be circumstances where i would stay, if i was nearing getting vested or some type of years of service payout.

no use hang around and let your fingers tingle. move on.

  96. gigi-hawaii June 23, 2011 1:47 pm

    couch,

    I agree.

  97. Stephen Tsai June 23, 2011 1:50 pm

I think Jamie McCourt is trying to get the same thing.

  102. gigi-hawaii June 23, 2011 2:01 pm

who wants to hire a 62 yr old accountant,

even tho he plans to work til he dies at age 100

just to keep his mind sharp?

  103. Couch potato June 23, 2011 2:02 pm

too bad your hubby wasn’t asked to take a voluntary reduction in pay. looks like no matter how old we get we always face crossroads, forks, detours, u-turns, roadblocks, and landslides. just gotta make sound decisions. from what i read, you did make a sound decision on the reverse mortgage. now let your hair down and rip through the autobahn of life. as for me, $1 dvd rentals are good enough.

  104. Stephen Tsai June 23, 2011 2:03 pm

Tell him to try crossword puzzles. That will keep the mind going.

  105. gigi-hawaii June 23, 2011 2:06 pm

    haha!

or write a blog every day, eh?

  106. Couch potato June 23, 2011 2:08 pm

can we say age discrimination! that’s why you have to be marketable. show in your resume your vast knowledge and experience. provide letters of reference from trusted co-workers and clients he has dealt with. sell yourself in the interview.

no one wants to hire a slacker. need to show the energy and the commitment whether talking on the phone or interviewing with prospective employers.

  107. Slugger June 23, 2011 2:11 pm

    Nice pictures, ST!

That picture of John Hardy-Tuliau illustrates “the noose” that Mouse Davis stresses to receivers. That’s how you catch the ball. For the last two Wahine FB seminars, I got to toss & catch the ball with Joe Avery. I hope he’s out there practicing this summer.

  108. gigi-hawaii June 23, 2011 2:14 pm

    slugger,

I have such small hands that I doubt my noose would be able to catch a ball.

In his book, JJ mentioned how he disliked his small hands as a quarterback.

  109. Slugger June 23, 2011 2:16 pm

We had a nice CC with curveball. Got some pictures. I think I need a nap…

  110. Slugger June 23, 2011 2:17 pm

    gigi,

It’s all in the mindset. If I can catch a football, you can catch a football.

  111. gigi-hawaii June 23, 2011 2:18 pm

    lol

  112. Couch potato June 23, 2011 2:28 pm

alas, some people are doomed to never catch a football. lol

call it hands of stone, uncoordinated, butter fingers, alice, clumsy, or mitten hands. it’s worse when a male has that symptom. end up being the last one picked and being the person who hikes the ball in touch football.

Boston Celtics….the GREEN keeps rolling….Marshon Brooks out of Providence, a guard.

  121. Ralph June 23, 2011 3:55 pm

Brooks is a 6’5 guard, good size, ESPN says he has a 7’1 wing span, he can fly but can he defend, otherwise Doc Rivers won’t play him.

they are such an old team.

well, not that old, but aging.

  127. gigi-hawaii June 23, 2011 4:38 pm

    btw, congrats Terence!

  128. Kevin June 23, 2011 4:46 pm

This was obvious before, but more obvious now… I was just thinking that when both our basketball and women’s volleyball programs enter the Big West, we’re going to have the best facility BY FAR, hell, without the new scoreboard and LED advertisement boards and all the new clocks, etc… we still would have had the best facility in the Big West anyway.

    Ummm… look good… play good???

Anyone familiar with the Big West bball and vball tourneys?

We SERIOUSLY should have the ability to place a bid, but then again, not much kala for those Big West teams to come to Hawaii I guess…

    Any thoughts?

The Stan Sheriff Center is the BEST facility of it’s kind in the entire state and it’s NOT being used to it’s full potential thanks to that STUPID rule about bidding at the Blaisdell first.

That facility there is in horrible condition by today’s standards.

  129. LizKauai June 23, 2011 4:47 pm

God Speed and happy times to curveball!

  134. Ralph June 23, 2011 4:57 pm

ESPN is reporting the Celts will be getting a 2nd round pick rather than 4th rounder. Better deal. And the Celts needed a big man, Johnson is 6’10.

ampm Big West Tournament Gets Strong Turnout

The Big West and title sponsor ampm began their new relationship with Honda Center in an auspicious way as a three-day total of 15,396 fans attended this year’s event. This was the first of a five-year partnership to host the event at Honda Center. The cumulative attendance total represented a 47% increase over last year. Saturday’s men’s and women’s combined attendance of 6,474 was a single-day increase of 68%. In addition, the 5,341 fans who witnessed the men’s basketball championship game was the third largest crowd to see a Big West final during its 17-year tenure in Anaheim (1977-82, 2001-11).

    Howzit Tsaikos!

Nice lunch today with Curveball and others. I’ll miss him at the t-gates.

d1 – #152 – 15K for 3 days? yikes. What was the total attendance at the WACky tournament?

Big West “arenas” look like (on TV at least) glorified high school gyms.

Speaking of Wahine basketball, anyone know what’s going on with Shaena Kuehu? Did she officially leave Idaho? Just saw her today working at Kailua Zippys.

Is the water polo team moving over to the Big West? Think MPSF is better competition.

  156. Kevin June 23, 2011 6:13 pm

took family to see Ducks game when it was still Arrowhead Pond.

Great facility and so easy to get in and quickly out of parking lot.

Strange that we went to the ticket office day of game to buy tickets but no prices were posted. Elderly gentleman in front of me wanted to surprise his wife and buy tickets for Paul McCartney concert and also no prices posted for that either. When it was his turn at the window, he confidently asked for 2 of the average tickets for the concert and was told it would be $8,000. In a state of shock, he questioned the price and was informed that the high end tickets were $8,000, therefore, average would be $4,000 and since he wanted 2, it would cost $8,000.

He proceded to ask what the starting price was and was told $65. He took two of those.

When it was my turn, first thing I asked was what the prices were for Ducks.

  159. Kevin June 23, 2011 6:20 pm

The choice of the venue for the WAC baseball tourney seems like it was decided on because Karl Benson lost a bet.

It’s a poor location and the attendance speaks for itself.

Not sure where the Big West Baseball Tourney is held, but it should be a step up as far as attendance and fan-fare goes. Even if it’s not that great, it’s still BETTER than the WAC Baseball Tournament.

Besides, I wouldn’t be caught DEAD in Arizona. My skin color might incite accusations that my presence goes against their “core values”… God that state has lost it’s damn mind…

  160. d1shima June 23, 2011 6:28 pm

    jmxxxx,

Even the NCAA tournament won’t draw sell-out crowds to lotsa venues. Especially the even-numbered rounds when the two losing teams’ fans have little interest in attending. Sometimes the directors slip up and you can see the empty sections on TV. But the name of the game in post-season MBB is TV. The BW prolly has a big advantage over the WAC with all those Cali markets.

  161. iwonderwhytheyhateme June 23, 2011 6:40 pm

I think the Big West is a good “temporary” home. Once the MWC goes to 12, something tells me they are going to want UH as a full member.

Hopefully they won’t require a full cost sharing requirement at that point in time.

  162. d1shima June 23, 2011 7:03 pm

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

In the grand pattern of things you get a B+ with regard to effort. Where you confused everybody was on your facts. You know, as the maxim goes, the devil is in the details… And that could not be much more correct in this article. Having said that, allow me inform you precisely what did do the job. Your writing is certainly quite convincing and that is probably why I am taking an effort to opine. I do not really make it a regular habit of doing that. Secondly, even though I can notice a leaps in logic you come up with, I am not really confident of exactly how you seem to unite the points which make the final result. For right now I will, no doubt subscribe to your position but trust in the near future you link the facts much better.———— http://www.yescustom.com – Custom Your Shirt Watch etc.

Well…QB Tom Brady had become determined No.1 in Top rated 100 Online players of this year at official Sports website. I really enjoy his history very much. Late round draft evaluation, little child at the combine, in the end bought the option and staying the hope of NFL prominence and a super model spouse. I often show my pride by having on football jersey with a number 12 and his name. You can find a shop from where i found my wonderful jerseys. Jeter’s fans can get mlb jerseys, Jordan’s follower can collect discount nba jerseys and Crosby’s supporters can shop for nhl jerseys wholesale there. What’s fantastic is they provide you with youth nfl jerseys and women jerseys. I gave 2 pieces as gifts to my nephew. He likes it very much. I purchased my sports team a dozen of cheap nfl jerseys at around 20 dollars, quality is a whole lot better than expectation, big surprise. Honestly i would like to have my own name and number embroidered on NFL uniforms, I hope they are able to personalized jerseys soon.

Zune and iPod: Many people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I contemplate it to be a rather unique hybrid that mixes qualities of both Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly small compared to the touch screen, however the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being only a hair thicker.
