Mr. Dacuycuy crafted action figures of Kealoha Pilares and Greg Salas. How accurate? The Pilares action figure has precise tattoos; Salas’ figure is making a one-handed catch.

Two things are impressive: 1) Whenever I take a picture of Lametrius Davis, Aaron Brown appears. 2) It never rains on Davis or Brown. Here are John Hardy-Tuliau, Davis and Brown:

Defensive back Steven Stepter delivered the two biggest hits in the past two Warrior Bowls. But he has not played since suffering a concussion — at least his second — in the season opener against USC. UH is petitioning for a medical waiver that would allow Stepter to remain on scholarship while his football future is evaluated. Stepter has served as a de facto student coach this season.

  47. Kazz December 21, 2010 10:16 am

Ferd’s article on Bolla really gets down to what this fool’s line of think really was.

He admits to kicking a player and doesn’t think much of it.

Brah if I was the boyfriend, brother, or father of that Rainbow Wahine player, I’d make sure Bolla would be in some ICU right now.

  48. kawika49 December 21, 2010 10:17 am

I’m mongolian because the the Army said I was Mongolian…I’m budhist because I like Japanese food and days off on Saturday…Voila-Mongolian Budhist

  49. kawika49 December 21, 2010 10:25 am

#47 I believe that Bolla would not be around to file that suit, if anyone knew.

  50. kawika49 December 21, 2010 10:25 am

#42 Had the caliber…not the length

  51. Pomai December 21, 2010 10:33 am

#36 – NCAA – No football. A win will have us start off in the top 25 a lost will be hard to over come all the doubters. We need this win on national TV. We need to route this team, I for one want to see the starters in till the very last second, put the pedal to the metal an don’t let up, if you call it running up the score then so be it.

  52. Shoko December 21, 2010 10:37 am

Bolla should have been brought up on assault and battery charges. He’s lucky he got off light. If I was the father of the player he kicked, I would be on him like white on rice.

  53. Shoko December 21, 2010 10:38 am

    Oh, morning gang! 🙂

  54. NCAA December 21, 2010 10:39 am

    Pomai,

I’d like to see all players contribute to the rout!

  55. kawika49 December 21, 2010 10:39 am

#51 I would prefer a Defensive Pummeling of Tulsa than a high score.

We (as In the team) need to show that we are more than scoring.

  61. NCAA December 21, 2010 10:43 am

Future is looking good. Calen Friel looking big. Moses Samia getting big. Both of them are very athletic young men who are getting bigger. In two and three years they will be bigger, athletic, defensive tackles.

  90. Puhi December 21, 2010 12:04 pm

To Juda Parker and other big time local recruits:

Remember one thing. No one remembers the big time recruits who left Hawai’i for the likes of Oregon State. Their careers are done and they are forgotten by the people of Hawai’i. But even the walk-ons who stayed home are remembered forever by the people of Hawai’i.

Over half of the Warriors are locals who stayed home to represent. If more big time recruits stayed home, we’d be even better. Everybody cheered when Nate Jackson layed that huge hit on that QB from Sana Lui who left to play for Washington. I forget his name.

Think of all the guys who go away and then transfer back to UH. The grass isn’t greener in America.

Something to think about. Coach always said, “Stay home.”

  94. FROM STAR-ADVERTISER BREAKING NEWS:

Heavy showers and isolated thunder storms are forecast through tonight and more rain is likely to greet President Obama’s Christmas homecoming when Air Force One is expected to touch down at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam tomorrow night.

All islands remain under a flash flood watch through tonight.

“The greatest threat is the next 12 to 24 hours,” said Derek Wroe, lead forecaster for the National Weather Service.

Tropical Storm Omeka, which had been sitting north of the main Hawaiian islands, was downgraded to a “remnant low” last night by the National Weather Service.

But an even bigger system is unleashing rain today that will likely continue through Christmas, Wroe said.

“The front to the north will keep us under the threat of wet conditions pretty much through Christmas,” he said. “It’s unlikely that we’ll have normal trade conditions until after Christmas.”

Oh, great – who wants to sit in the rain for three or four hours if we cannot use umbrellas? Who made that dumbolino rule? I see umbrellas at all kinds of outdoor sporting events here in the United States.

  103. madeinhawaii December 21, 2010 12:32 pm

    NorthShoreFan…

Still gotta sub… gotta sub everytime they move the chain. The objective of the no-huddle is to gas the opposition defense by making a ton of plays in the allotted time. If our defense cannot stop them before they make 10 yards, we need to substitute a bunch of players, until the next time they move the chain. Only when they move the chain is there enough time to substitute. Once a player gets gassed against the no-huddle, it’s really hard for them to catch their second wind. Better not to let them get gassed at all. Get your second team mixed in there and wear down the other guy’s offense instead.

UH committed 31 TO against UCLA, averaging in the 20’s for the season, making it nearly impossible to be competitive against a ranked team.

If Juda Parker plays for Hawaii? We going have four DE’s in next year’s freshman class. Who going play? Who going sit down? Practices going be mean and competitive.

    Defensive Ends in 2011

    Ipulasi Eselu (5/4)

    David Katina (5/4)

    Juda Parker (5/4)

    Marcus Malepeai (4/4)

    Desmond Dean (4/4)

    Beau Yap (4/4)

    Waylon Lolotai (3/3)

    Brenden Daley (3/2)

    Paipai Falemalu (2/2)

    Siaki Cravens (2/2)

    Liko Satele (1/1)

    Alasi Toilolo (1/1)

Yeah, but isn’t that a nice problem to have? Aren’t some of them already converted to linebackers?

    Kawaika49 ~

Returned to the XVIII Abn Corps, 82nd Abn Div after NATO assignment in 1980. Delta Ops was the new order at Ft. Bragg then. Tuning the teams for specific missions was priority one.

All-Hawaii Cadre at Ft. Ord was led by my father-in-law, 1Sgt. Kawika Hanakeawe in the early 60’s. Hawaiians dominated the training center in every discipline!

Div. Football was king. Local boys ruled the rosters! Playing football, was considered a choice assignment. Ahhh! The Golden age of Army sports. Viet Nam changed all that…

What people fail to realize is Tulsa’s no huddle offense precariously hinges on one condition: execution. Disrupt that and I don’t care how fast their offense moves, Tulsa will turn the ball over to us with choke time on the clock.

They’re best defense is to keep our high powered offense off the field.

They’re speed offense plays right into our hands. =)

  155. Pride. December 21, 2010 1:45 pm

I don’t really understand what the problem is with the hurry up offense. In my history class they used to teach us that once upon a time football players never left the field. They played both offense and defense. Special teams too. If da old guys can do’em like dat. The young guys can do’em too. This week against Tulsa, no different. The defense stay on the field long time just like in the olden days.

Besides, everybody always talk about getting winded…what the offense no get winded?…same ting yah! Dey on da field, you on da field, dey no rest, you no rest. Just gotta suck it up and play. No huddle, long huddle, quick huddle, huddle at hooters, all da same. Still gotta excecute, still gotta give 100%. No moa excuses. jus play. Rememba da slack key guitar guy from kalapana, “jus press”. Warriors gotta be “jus’ play”.

Dave Shoji is in a class of his own and his record and resume alone justifies this.

One advantage Coach Shoji has is the volleyball culture in Hawaii. However, one can also argue that he created this culture we are able to brag about to this very day.

“The good news about Colt Brennan’s recent appearance on the LaVar and Dukes show is that he’s on the road to recovery from the serious car accident that left him with multiple fractures and serious head trauma. He said he’s just weeks away from being able to resume working out and getting back into his normal routine.

Having got past that, Brennan eventually weighed in on the Rex Grossman-Donovan McNabb controversy. He was speaking on Friday, before Grossman’s debut as the Redskins starter, but his insight into their offseason practice performances was still interesting….”

    NCAA,

Used to know this one joke:

    Person 1: “Where you from?”

    Person 2: “Waipio”

Person 1: “Oh, you play soccer?”

    😆

But seriously, a lot of the Waipo kids from my high school did play soccer. But anyway, if you ever had the chance to see Rainbow Wahine soccer play, they actually draw decent sized crowds for that facility in Waipahu and this is during their struggling seasons. I only went to two games last year.

But the demand for soccer is there, especially at the youth level where fans are abundant.

A winning program just furthers the interest.

I am not familiar with Coach “Bud”, as they call her, but considering the trend of the program in the past few years, any change is a good one.

  205. madeinhawaii December 21, 2010 3:27 pm

    NCAA…

It’s not the fitness of the athlete.. it’s the pace of repetition that kills you…

If you look at Tulsa’s yards on offense, you’ll notice that besides the QB.. much of their yards are spread among a good number of players. With 24 seconds or less between plays, that suggests wholesale substitution whenever the chains are moved. As Coach Graham has stated, he wants to run 89 plays to our 65 in the same time of possession. I believe that’s the number that Boise played against us.

  206. Pride. December 21, 2010 3:29 pm

#206 – MIH. 24 seconds is perfect. Six seconds effort and eighteen seconds of rest. Isn’t that the perfect amount rest time to enable enough oxygen to replace some of the ATP-PC buildup in your muscle tissue. The rate is supposed to be three times the rest X the amount of time for maximum effort. I may be wrong, I only majored in lunch.

#208 – Gigi, just need to be careful. And I’m not sure how many Colt had.

  211. gigi-hawaii December 21, 2010 3:41 pm

Quite a few QBs had to retire after receiving 2 or more concussions — Troy Aikman and Steve Young come to mind. Both are TV analysts, now, right?

    Pride.:

    December 21st, 2010 at 4:47 am

According to Scout dot com, there were about 76 Hawaii high school football players that made committments to play football right out of high school. 46 went to mainland schools and 30 stayed home to play for Hawaii.

Of the 46 that committed to play on the mainland, 9 went to NFL camps. Of that nine, seven made it onto NFL rosters.

Of the 30 kids that committed to Hawaii, 10 went to NFL camps, of the ten, two made it onto NFL rosters.

Mainland – 19% made it to an NFL camp and 15% made an NFL team.

Hawaii – 33% made it to an NFL camp and 6.6% made an NFL team.

It is obvious by looking at the numbers that a player is more likely to get a tryout in the NFL if they were to play for Hawaii rather than a mainland school.

Maybe JM237548296872 can double check my numbers, because I am not real smart. JM is real smart. But no tell Garret, then I really going feel dumb. Garret he don’t know, but he grew up one street away from me. .He lucky that I left da smart water for him to drink. Or else I would have been da rocket scientist, not him.

  216. NorthShoreFan December 21, 2010 3:55 pm

Concussion effects really don’t always show up right away…it’s later on that the effects catch up. kind of scary too. being in your twenties, one might want to consider what’s down the road.

  217. NorthShoreFan December 21, 2010 3:56 pm

Guud effort…now time to get the w’s…team learning how to win now. not like when it was infected with e-bolla virus.

  219. NorthShoreFan December 21, 2010 4:02 pm

always wondered if a coach like gino could get the same results at another school? say one in the sun belt or wac…just wondering

  220. mctruck December 21, 2010 4:07 pm

amazing when i played football……concussions were not treated/diagnosed like it is today. I know for a fact that it affects one’s memory among many things associated with head injuries. Don’t wish it on anyone.

  221. mctruck December 21, 2010 4:09 pm

    what did i just say????

  222. Ralph December 21, 2010 4:09 pm

would be easier for him because the competition in wbb would be easier in the sun belt and Wac. He built UConn with good recruiting, good coaching and built a long standing winning wbb tradition. He would be able to recruit where ever he goes.

Good coaching does that for a program. Same goes for Tennessee and Stanford wbb, good coaches built up over the years and they were able to recruit year in and year out. It’s not about them being BCS because there are a lot of BCS teams that don’t compare to the top echelon teams like UConn and Tennessee.

  223. madeinhawaii December 21, 2010 4:19 pm

    Pride…

For the pros maybe … we’ll certainly find out on Friday. Hopefully our defense will be able to stop them 3 and out and not have to stay in the game until the chain has moved a half a dozen times.

I guess one ofthe questions, we need to ask is, with all the new theories on physical conditioning are the teams of today much more physical than those of a decade ago?

Graham’s Win/Loss record at Tulsa has cranked out 3 solid winning seasons out of 4. Something must be working for him..

    2007 Tulsa 10–4

    2008 Tulsa 11–3

    2009 Tulsa 5–7

    2010 Tulsa 9–3 TBA Hawaii

  224. madeinhawaii December 21, 2010 4:20 pm

Congrats to the UConn Wahine on their 89th Win! I’m sure Coach Wooden is smiling down on them.

    ST ~

Great pictures! The DB group is a wonderful bunch of guys. There was a young 7-year old Warrior-in-the-making getting autographs this morning. He had given Lewis a letter that he wrote to the team. Walker asked if he could read it to everyone; Torres went back to the locker room to get something for the little guy. Special group of guys!

Looking forward to seeing Jake run another TD in.

  228. Not an Expert December 21, 2010 4:38 pm

How to have a hurry up defense for a hurry up offense?

Coaches need to have 2 to 4 players ready for the different yardage to the respective down. When their codes are called out certain players will be immediately inserted and the replaced players to come out. Inserted players may need to remind the outgoing players just as a precaution to make sure they know they are going out. I believe it can work but the players on the sidelines have to be ready at all times.

    2nd down and short.

    2nd down and long.

    3rd down and short.

3rd down and long. 4 DIFFERENT BASIC SCENARIOS.

    Inside Hawaii 35.

    Forget about the punt team.

    4th and short.

4th and long. 2 DIFFERENT BASIC SCENARIOS.

Coaches will need to know after the play is done what the down and yardage situation is and can have the players inserted and out in 10 to 12 seconds. They know exactly what they want based on the yardage and down. Tulsa averages 24 seconds between plays. Planned personnel and defensive plays for the different scenarios.

May not work at times but creating better odds with the proper players in based on the yardage and down situation.

Can this idea work or is it full of holes? Do realize that this is easier said than done.

  229. Ralph December 21, 2010 4:40 pm

Malzahn was a coordinator at Tulsa. Started with Springdale HS in Arkansas, he and his HS qb Mustain, ended at Arkansas with Houston Nutt as HC. Nutt ran the ball with McFadden and co., so he bolted to Tulsa to run his offense and Mustain went to USC to sit on the bench.

Females are females. No question. In all parts of the world they are women and are referred to as such in their respective cultures.

Just my opinion here, but the female student-athletes of the University of Hawai’i, regardless of race or cultural background, represent a Hawaii based institution and the state as well and therefore are Wahine, “Rainbow Wahine”.

It’s probably just me, but UCONN has their own traditions and whatnot and we have our own as well.

The term “Wahine” is ours. I don’t like sharing. 😎

    In matters close to HOME:

    http://hawaiiathletics.com/news/2010/12/21/WBB_1221105719.aspx

HILO, Hawai`i—The University of Hawai`i women’s basketball team (4-6) fell in the final game of the Chevron Rainbow Wahine Shootout to East Carolina (5-6) tonight at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo, Hawai`i. Megan Tinnin led UH with a season-high 22 points and Keisha Kanekoa scored 17 points and earned all-tournament honors.

Tinnin hit 6-of-14 field-goals and scored both of her 3-point shots late in the game. She also tallied six rebounds, two steals with an assist. Kanekoa, who played her final game in front of her hometown crowd as a Rainbow Wahine, also dished out three assists with a steal. Shawna-Lei Kuehu also posted double-digits with 10 points with five rebounds, three assists, four steals and a block. Breanna Arbuckle grabbed a team-high 10 boards in the defeat.

Kaneoka’s 17 points brings her to 987 points in her stellar career as she comes closer to becoming just the 16th player in Rainbow Wahine history to hit the 1,000 point mark. Kanekoa also was named to the all tournament team.

The Rainbow Wahine go home to Honolulu for the holidays.

Next week, UH hosts the Pepsi Rainbow Wahine Invitational Dec. 28-30 with CS Bakersfield, Columbia, and UNLV coming to town.

Pride. – #213 – yeah, the numbers are right, but the question is why don’t the UH players don’t make an NFL team in the same proportion as the Mainland guys. My SWAG is that they were drafted lower or were free agents *because* they went to UH and therefore, weren’t given as much of a chance. Like someone commented on the ‘Skins blog today,

“…because in D.C. you don’t play the guy who looks better you play the guy you pay more. ” Substitute NFL for DC.

I’d like to see these stats, but don’t know if they exist:

    1) % of NFL players with a college degree

    2) % of NFL players who got a college degree within 3 yrs of entering

    3) % of NFL players who HAD a college degree entering the NFL

UH staff needs to push the 100% graduation rate, especially to the parents.

Now back to your regular programming.

Coach Mack said there is not enough time to substitute against the no-huddle. So the only time would be when the chains are moved.. or after a penalty. Or one of the players could feign injury.

I’ve noticed that when projecting preseason rank, many will look at not only who graduated, but also who is coming back. We’ve got lots of big pukas to fill, although our schedule looks pretty good. If we can get new guys plugged in and flowing from game one, we could have another magical season.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

Far from it. If you think we’re the most violent society then just look at some of the third world countries where children carry guns and fight in wars! or where Arabs brainwash their youths into strapping bombs to themselves to blow innocents up! We may idolize power and violence but just think of nature. A society of lions practically worships the alpha male because they know he can fight off any foe and protect their young. It’s in our nature to respect strength and power

I watch the news daily, sometimes all day if I can. It does affect my mood too, now that you mention it. I would probably be much happier ignoring the fact that our President has just about started world war three with his ignorance. I don’t know what’s better. Getting invaded and not knowing about it until me and my family is shot and killed in front of my eyes, or having the opportunity to head for the hills and hide because I knew they were coming.

  461. cheap rosetta stone January 20, 2011 4:35 pm
