Traditional Friday

Of all of the football days during the season, my favorite is the Friday before a game.

The Warriors cram all of the practicing and planning into the first four days of the week, leading to the afternoon walk-through. During that 1-hour session, the players will trade jerseys — never know who’s lurking — go through basic drills and try not to trip on divots. Sometimes the band will perform. Back in the day, Alan “The Rubberband Man” Hackbarth got his dancing start performing before teammates on walk-through Fridays.

Calm before the storm? Sure. But this is what parents have been telling their kids since history’s first school: Do all of your work early so you don’t have to rush at the end.

* * * * *

A very happy birthday to Hiflyer, a man for all (UH) seasons.

Happy belated birthday to Thomas Iwashita.

It’s such a rush in the morning.

I thought I would post right after practice, but then the phone started acting up.

The insurance company keeps sending me surveys about their service.

I can’t answer, because they haven’t sent my replacement phone yet.

Hey, maybe that’s my answer: Where’s my phone?

  20. Garret September 24, 2010 8:55 am

Tomorrow should be a good day for the Warriors. One bad thing for mainland UH fans is that it appears that the UH-Charleston Southern game has bee removed from EPSN GamePlan and ESPN3.com. If they don’t add it back then mainland will either have to buy the stream from Oceanic or use on of the pirated streaming sites.

  21. Garret September 24, 2010 8:56 am

David Veikune worked out with the Texans this week.

The Houston Texans auditioned former Cleveland Browns second-round linebacker David Veikune this week, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation.

  22. gigi-hawaii September 24, 2010 8:59 am

well, i sure hope the Warriors don’t come out “flat” in the 3rd quarter tomorrow.

  23. Garret September 24, 2010 9:03 am

UCLA’s true freshman DT Seali’i Epenesa talked about how he was homesick as soon as he got off the plane in LA. He said that he seriously considered coming back to play at UH, but he adjusted with the help of their other Hawaii players (they have 6 players from Hawaii) and Norm Chow.

  24. jm2375 September 24, 2010 9:12 am

    Good morning Tsai-kos!

I’m glad the braddah in UCLA didn’t throw in the towel. Although it would have been good for UH, I like it when the local boys tough it out in unfsmiliar settings. What doesn’t kill you…..

  29. RupertDaStupert September 24, 2010 9:18 am

How about the UH forming a drum corps? To augment the band? The music stirring up the spirits of the fans, the player? Maybe some fife’s with the drums with rhythmic, beats that works up the fighting spirits, adrenaliin flowing to go to battle. Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman never went without his famous First Brigade Band. Gen. Robert E. Lee said “we cannot have a war without a band”. Work out a deal with CBS and UH administration to either buy or donate 100 “Hawaii Five-O” badges. Jack Lord designed and coprighted his badge. Not the cheap replica kind you see in coin shops or souvenir shops. He make two types. Karatclad tarnish proof and Pure gold. He gave pure gold one’s to VIP’s, Politicians, Hollywood stars, etc. He donated the karatclad ones to charities to auction. I won one but had to sell at a show. A policeman bought it for $200.00. That was 20 years ago. These badges might be a benefit in recruiting. With a promise of a genuine badge as well as why he/she should play for the UH, A 5star, 4star who is sitting on a cusp might just be swayed. Okay, please don’t pounce on me. Don’t throw rocks for my crazy ideas. Remember, I’ m stupert. Stupert is as stupert does. Life is like a box of Macadamia chocolates. You don’t know what your gonna get till you open it. UH give em! South Carolina team going battle but we going beat em! H A W A I I !

  31. OldDiver September 24, 2010 9:21 am

Read the ST article and heard the Charleston Southern coach on the radio. I’m liking that guy.

  32. Garret September 24, 2010 9:23 am

    Liz,

No, I meant *pirated* streaming sites, not public streaming sites. Those feeds are pirated, not legally provided. UH and its broadcast partners (Oceanic, ESPN) get no revenue from the pirated streams.

Of course, part of the reason why people turn to alternative sites is that Oceanic’s video feed is inconvenient to purchase (sometimes you can’t pay until right before the game), expensive, and unreliable. All of that will hopefully be fixed this season.

  35. ballpicker September 24, 2010 9:26 am

  39. ballpicker September 24, 2010 9:31 am

    Pomai,

    My suggestion would be:

    Hawaii 34

    CS 23

  40. ballpicker September 24, 2010 9:43 am

Listening to the BC radio show this morning when a caller who was quite articulate stated that ND was initially listed as a + 4 underdog, then commented, that was insane.. after all, how could they be underdogs at home. Proceeded to say that the line had changed to -4 ND.

So me being me I checked vegasinsider.com and ND is listed as a +4 underdog…at home.

Mypoint, sounds like a website name, would be if the caller is joking or playing around, thanks for toying with BC

  41. RupertDaStupert September 24, 2010 9:44 am

LizKauai, the value of rousing mucic is underestimated. The Revolutionary War, The Civil War, World War 1, World War 2. Cohen who wrote “Over there” jacked our nation and our troops up! Audie Murphy, the most decorated soldier in World War 2, said his 3rd division song Jacked him up and was played several times in his Autobiographical movie “To Hell and Back” “Dog Face Soldier”. If the UH players were “tired” in the thin air at Colorado, maybe rousing music will Pump adrenalin into their blood and give them second wind.. Just thoughts. But I believe in the power of music.

  42. Kazz September 24, 2010 9:45 am

I still cannot believe that there are some that do NOT appreciate Alan Hackbarth’s “performances” during Warrior volleyball games…

  43. Stephen Tsai September 24, 2010 9:45 am

Sounds like someone was using BC for amusement purposes only.

  44. Kazz September 24, 2010 9:47 am

    Garret,

Regarding ESPN3 and viewing it on my Droid. Upon registering it I guess, it asked me for my internet provider. Of course I was thinking… “well I am on my phone right now…” so then I selected VZW. Then it asked me for my VZW password and email username with this provider, which I do not have because I don’t use Verizon as my actual internet provider when using my main PC at home. That is Oceanic Roadrunner.

    What did you select?

  45. papajoe2 September 24, 2010 9:48 am

    Pomai, 24 UH 23 them.

  46. Stephen Tsai September 24, 2010 9:51 am

    Old Diver:

What I like about that guy is that he appreciates the overall experience of football and its travels.

Yes, it’s important to win a game. But, as he said, parents “entrusted” him to provide the overall travel experience for the players.

I sort of wish that UH had an organized tour of New York for the players. Don’t know how many players will ever have the chance to visit New York again.

  47. ballpicker September 24, 2010 9:53 am

    No Mr. Tsai,

It was the caller that abused me I should say amused me. Belated happy returns to the islands. True Warrior.

  48. ballpicker September 24, 2010 9:56 am

And if that caller wasn’t toying with BC then B Q.

  49. kev-1 September 24, 2010 9:57 am

This should be a big game for the offense. REQUEST: Let’s get Greg Salas a couple TD’s. That kid deserves it.

Love this offense . . . pulling for the defense! Lets go Warriors!!!!!!!!!!

  50. A-House September 24, 2010 9:57 am

Happy Birfday to all who celebrate today!

  51. gigi-hawaii September 24, 2010 9:58 am

ST, the Warriors should at least have taken the boat to Ellis Island and gone inside the Statue of Liberty!!!

  52. jm2375 September 24, 2010 9:59 am

Gramps – A-joe is off-island this weekend, so you gonna have to fight BG, Kekoa, WDoc, Mr. A-house, etc for his share of the bread pudding.

Kazz – the Screechers love Mr. Hackbarth. They’re (and me too) disappointed that he doesn’t perform at the Wahine games.

  53. ballpicker September 24, 2010 10:01 am

    Unfortunate for me…

I can’t go to the game this weekend because of work, which I’m grateful for, but will be listening on the radio until either the refs or the coaches p me off. Then I turn off the radio for awhile and hope their doing better and turn it back on with my eyes closed, cringing.

I shouldnt be that way…. but they shouldn’t either.

  54. gigi-hawaii September 24, 2010 10:02 am

jm2375, does the bread pudding come with vanilla sauce? I loooove the bread pudding at Sam Choy’s on Nimitz.

  55. Slugger September 24, 2010 10:02 am

    RupertDaStupert,

I’m glad to see that Vili’s drummers are not in the end zone anymore. He didn’t know when to have them make noise drumming. They would be making noise when our QB was trying to call plays and not only when we were on defense. I still think they ought to hire a student as a mascot and cut the expense of a professional like Vili. Sorry, Vili, but after all these years if you don’t know when to rouse the crowd, you not doing the job.

  56. gigi-hawaii September 24, 2010 10:05 am

Slugger, I can’t speak about the games cause I don’t attend, but Vili and his boys look really good on TV!!!

  57. sportsforfun September 24, 2010 10:05 am

Question: Is the player (Ingram?) who New England drafted as a long snapper still playing for them?

  58. roygbivs[Terence Twk Wong] September 24, 2010 10:07 am

    waassup

  59. sportsforfun September 24, 2010 10:08 am

Looking forward to watching the TCU/SMU game. I hope JJ pulls off the upset.

  60. Derek September 24, 2010 10:09 am

What, no shutout! I will go on a limb, 51-0. A very thin limb I might add! Gotta show some love for Aranda since he said all the things are correctable and it’s on him. Well, it’s “show me” time so I hope we turned a new leaf and show the fire, the passion, the aggressive hitting, the pursuit, and the smarts. Offensively, I’d like to see one thing. Better blocking.

Loved Miami Fla yesterday. Pittsburgh has some big problems. Their offensive line isn’t very good and their QB is new. Dion Lewis, last year’s 1,700+ rusher, can’t get going. No line, no blocking, no yards, period! I like June Jones and SMU, but I think TCU is just too much. TCU is trying to make a statement, just like Boise St. TCU to win at SMU by at least 3 touchdowns. Big reason is that TCU’s defense is very, very good. And TCU’s offense, w/ a 3 year QB starter who is a Senior in Andy Dalton is so efficient. They don’t make many mistakes. But, don’t feel sorry for June. SMU will make it to a bowl game, maybe back to the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl. It would be nice to see them and Hawaii in that game seeing 2 Run and Shoot teams square off.

  61. HawaiiMongoose September 24, 2010 10:11 am

I know the subject of conference realignment has been beaten to death, but something interesting that I learned today is that Temple participates in the MAC for football only and in the Atlantic 10 for other sports. If that’s possible, then certainly the WAC could consider keeping Hawaii in the conference for football only, with UH moving its other sports to the Big West. That would save UH from having to schedule as a football independent, preserve the Hawaii exemption and Hawaii Bowl tie-in for the other WAC schools, and cut travel expense way down for everyone.

If that’s on the radar screen for Jim Donovan and Karl Benson, then the recent reports that the WAC is considering Seattle, Denver, Montana, Texas State and UTSA as potential new members start to make a lot of sense. If the conference paired up Hawaii and Seattle, with Hawaii in the WAC for football only and Seattle for non-football sports, and then added Denver, Montana, Texas State and UTSA, the WAC would look like this:

    Hawaii/Seattle (football/non-football pair)

    Denver (non-football)

    SJSU

    Idaho

    Montana

    USU

    NMSU

    UTSA

    Texas State

    LaTech

This would give the WAC 9 members playing football and 10 members playing non-football sports which is ideal for scheduling. Also the WAC would have 8 members playing both football and non-football sports which is the NCAA minimum to be considered an FBS conference. I think this could be the best possible outcome for all parties and I hope it’s what’s in the works.

  62. LizKauai m/ September 24, 2010 10:13 am

sportsforfun- I googled (hint) Jake and he is still their long snapper.

  63. LizKauai m/ September 24, 2010 10:14 am

    Derek- I like your limb…

    GO WARRIORS!

  64. sportsforfun September 24, 2010 10:14 am

    @#60

Derek, I agree that TCU could win big, but nothing wrong with hoping. Haha. If SMU does come back to the SHB, and meets up with Hawai’i, that would be big!! The master (Jones) versus the student (Rolo). Plus ST and the gang would have plenty stories to write up considering all the coaching ties!!

  65. gigi-hawaii September 24, 2010 10:15 am

I think it would be JJ vs. Mouse in the Hawaii Bowl. Now THAT would be veddy interesting!

  66. LizKauai m/ September 24, 2010 10:15 am

Alan Hackbarth- my fave. At least he got to catch some balls in a fishnet last week!

And Vili- I went nutz at the USC game when he was having a cheering contest while Moniz was on the field…. ARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!! SHADDAPPPPP!!!!

  67. gigi-hawaii September 24, 2010 10:16 am

Why doesn’t Mack speak to Vili about that? All he needs is some constructive criticism.

  68. sportsforfun September 24, 2010 10:17 am

    #62

Thanks LizKauai!! 😉 Have a great weekend!!

  69. Slugger September 24, 2010 10:17 am

    Gi-Gi,

I really think UH should stop paying a professional and pay a student, like other universities, to be the mascot. They work with the cheer squad, understand when they are supposed to cheer and make noise, and it gives a student a job.

I’m sure we can find many fit “speci-mens” on campus to be a Warrior on the field. They can even have a couple of them who rotate in. I’ve seen young men on campus who are in much better shape than Vili and would make an impressive Warrior mascot.

    Give a student a job!

  70. sportsforfun September 24, 2010 10:19 am

I agree with gig-hawaii. Someone needs to talk to Vili about game etiquette. Be quiet when we have the ball, fire up the crowd when the other team does.

  71. gigi-hawaii September 24, 2010 10:21 am

    Good point, Slugger…

  72. RupertDaStupert September 24, 2010 10:22 am

Slugger, I don’t know if Vili’s drummers are beating the Military adrenline pumping rhythms to get our players pumped up. Granted, we are a college and not the military but adrenaline pumping music doesn’t have to be the military kind. I am neutral about keeping Vili as mascot. June Jones originally hired him, but he is paid good money. I don’t want to see a person lose his job but if a UH student will do it for less money, it can help the UH economics. The drum corps if it is originated, should be made up of snare drusm and bass drums. Effective in adrenaline pump your spirits up rhythmic beats.

  73. 702WarriorFan September 24, 2010 10:23 am

    #69

Why not ex UH FB player obtaining his next degree who knows when team/players need a little more motivation etc.?

  74. kev-1 September 24, 2010 10:23 am

No need Vili’s drummers. Sorry, but I’m not even that fond of Vili as the mascot either. I know everyone hated it when we had the Warrior costume guy, but I liked something like that better. Than maybe we could have some episodes like the Ohio mascot vs. Ohio St. mascot like last weekend. In cased you missed it, try and youtube it. Hilarious.

  75. Slugger September 24, 2010 10:24 am

    roygbivs[Terence Twk Wong],

I have your Tsaiko nametag. You making it to the T-Gate on Saturday? You going miss out on the ono bread pudding if you don’t show up… 😀

  76. gigi-hawaii September 24, 2010 10:25 am

or maybe get Ashley Leilie to do it?

  77. kev-1 September 24, 2010 10:26 am

Heck, how about a vote? I know I’m not a regular poster here, but I’m interested and would love to see your thoughts:

student in awesome (non-offensive) looking costume – OR – keep Vili

my vote = student in costume

  78. sportsforfun September 24, 2010 10:26 am

    @#74

and from what I’ve read, the dude who was in the Ohio mascot suit isn’t even a student. lol

  79. d1島 September 24, 2010 10:28 am

    Slugger,

If they go that route for a mascot there’d better be a better vetting process than the one at Ohio U.! 😯

  80. haroldwah September 24, 2010 10:29 am

That boy needs to go! He drew the line with me when he used a visiting team pom pom to wipe his okole. Absolutely no class. I like the idea of using a student athelete.

  81. LizKauai m/ September 24, 2010 10:33 am

Personally, I liked the drummers – some were ever related to Tsai-kos…

but having a UH drumline incorporating Polynesian drums and a Warrior mascot sounds cool to me!

  82. Slugger September 24, 2010 10:34 am

    Rupert,

Vili’s drummers were not drumming to a military cadence, but using large drums with a more Poly beat. I think the UH marching band could provide that kind of military beat. At some of the Oakland Athletics games I went to a few years ago, they would let a small ragtag group of drummers in who would play in the outfield stands and so I know what you mean.

Some of Vili’s drummers were HS students, like Nalani’s son…

(Sorry, Tsaikos… but) Vili looks more like a Tsaiko than a Warrior. I wouldn’t put a Warrior mascot into a fake costume, but having a young, physically fit guy in the same garb that Vili uses would be much more impressive. And if they were also a fire dancer, it would be great half-time entertainment.

  83. kev-1 September 24, 2010 10:37 am

ooooh!! fire dancer! never even thought of that. I like it.

  84. LizKauai m/ September 24, 2010 10:38 am

Student mascot (not a sumo fake body- just costume) leading a fan “mini haka” after each touchdown would be AWESOME!!!

  85. gigi-hawaii September 24, 2010 10:41 am

ST, what’s your take on all of this?

  86. Garret September 24, 2010 10:43 am

    Kazz,

I selected AT&T as my internet provider (which is true) and all I had to do was then log in to my AT&T account and EPSN3.com worked great for me. I tested it out and the video played very smoothly. It will be great to be able to have the ability to watch replays of UH games on my phone.

Regarding Jake Ingram, here is an ESPN article from today giving the 10 things to watch in the New England-Buffalo game.

    5. Stephen Gostkowski bouncing back. Enduring what he’s described as a “disaster” of a start to the season, the Patriots kicker is 1 for 4 on field-goal attempts, with misses from 37, 47 and 56 yards. This puts some added pressure on the operation of snapper Jake Ingram, holder Zoltan Mesko and Gostkowski.

  91. papajoe2 September 24, 2010 10:48 am

Fire dancer? Hope he doesn’t drop the knife and burn our million+ $$ turf. Dancing in the seats? It would be beautiful though. If the lights were dimmed when the other team has the ball, maybe better yet. Or could it be if we had the ball, to disguise the ball carrier:)

Slugger, keep the Polynesian drumming beat. Thats good. But snare drums and bass drums create the LOUD booming sounds that knocks one on his okole and causes a contagious adrenaline pumping reaction. When I watched “Patton” and “The Patriot” soundtrack. I was a soldier once. It helped to take the butterflies out. It helped to take Anxieties out before going to battle. Maybe it will help to alleviate the butterflies in our warriors and Make the want to do “Battle”. Go Dogface Warriors!

  94. madeinhawaii September 24, 2010 10:53 am

    Morning All.

I still say, let the Halaus compete for “Best of Halaus” during the games… local Halaus for home games… mainland Halaus for away games. Sell Hawaii! … get sponsors from all the hotels and Tourists oriented businesses. Offer prizes to the Halaus, as well as a trophy at the finals during the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl. They can chant, play drums.. music during timeouts and such.. and compete against each other during halftime.

    Two Halaus per game…

This would be a symbiotic relationship as the Mainland Halaus would get much needed PR to keep growing and our Warrior program would become a brand name of good football and entertainment.

  95. tommui September 24, 2010 10:54 am

There was a comment yesterday that increasing the budget for women’s volleyball probably do nothing and I suggested that perhaps it would for increase recruiting etc.

The budget for women’s volleyball for the final four teams for 08-09 years was

    Texas $852,886,Penn State $478,795, Minnesota $283,368, Hawaii $176,598

Other “big name” teams: Florida $393,805, USC $326,567, UCLA $246,895.

Unfortunately, we don’t have that kind of money – but I wonder if we did have that kind of $$$, would we be consistently in that final four category instead of once-in-a-blue moon?

We will always do well in the WAC or even the Big West but can we consistently get into Final Four – even the final eight or sixteen?

  97. Derek September 24, 2010 10:59 am

Isn’t it interesting that none of Vili’s sons played or plays for UH. I’m sure his football sons were beating the drums at Aloha Stadium. I just thought it was pretty odd that the UH mascot would not try to steer one of his sons to UH. I mean, doesn’t the father have some clout? No influence? Really strange to me. I’m sure the UH coaches were trying to recruit Whitley, Sam, and V.J. if not one or all of them.

  98. sportsforfun September 24, 2010 11:04 am

One thing I’ve noticed watching college football on TV, the mainland schools have their fans participate. Like when a first down is made, the announcers would say, ” And that’s enough for a (warrior) first down!!” The fans would say “warrior”, and then the announcer would finish the phrase. Mainland schools have a lot of tradition as far as fan participation.

Also, the year we went undefeated, I heard a conshell(?) blown over the loud speakers, like on 3rd down or something. I LOVED IT!! To me, it was like a rallying call!! Personally, I think we should bring that back. Play it on kickoffs too. I don’t know what do you guys think?

  99. LizKauai m/ September 24, 2010 11:04 am

  101. sportsforfun September 24, 2010 11:09 am

Maybe the Wahine Vball team can have a vball tournament on the mainland in California, kind of like that suggestion of having a football game in California at a neutral site. It could possibly help with recruiting and exposure.

  102. Kazz September 24, 2010 11:10 am

The only conceivable conference that the Wahine volleyball team can fit into that would provide competition is the PAC 10.

All I remember is going to 1 UH game in 04 when I was like 11 an the only thing I remember the crowd doing besides cheering is throwing newspaper in the air. Honestly I think we need something like that Mini Haka from Liz Kauai was a fabulous idea. The fire knife dance thing might be a little to dangerous though. Seriously though as mac said the 12th warrior is just as important. Maybe we need a crowd chant like the JETS have you know J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS! haha something.

  105. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc September 24, 2010 11:30 am

The suggestion about having a student mascot dressed in traditional warrior garb was submitted more than a month ago. Perhaps others here could follow up that request individually or draft a petition to pick up signatures at tomorrow’s game.

I’ll be glad to solicit signatures at The Stan; however, the Wahine will not return there for three more weeks. Still, getting a student mascot might not be available until next season.

Take a look at the male cheerleaders’ physiques. Talk about eye candy!! I wonder why they are not playing team sports – as hunky as they are, they’re also great athletes.

Someone asked if all UH System students get into UH games/atches free. No – only those campuses which have the $50 student fee – that’s only Manoa.

Maybe the fee could be made optional at the five O`ahu campuses.

  106. jm2375 September 24, 2010 11:35 am

    Happy Birthday Hi-Flyer!!

I vote for a student as mascot.

Fire knife dancer – isn’t our blog-meister related to one? 😉

Gigi – never made a sauce for the bread pudding. It doesn’t really need it. Mom’s recipe calls for using jelly as the sauce base.

    BTW – I’m bringing *1* 9×13 pan, so it’ll be you snooze, you lose. Not sure I’ll have enough time/ingredients to make 2 pans (i.e. 4 recipes = 16 eggs, 8 c milk,…)

  107. A-House September 24, 2010 11:36 am

My choice for cheer, which has very little support amongst the Tsaikos, is: IMUA HAWAII

Cheer leaders and dancers can hold up signs with IMUA on one side and HAWAII on the other.

Get the PA announcer involved, if can, and “makai” side can yell IMUA and then “mauka” side yell, HAWAII followed by IMUA from the “North endzone” and HAWAII from the “south endzone”.

Then cheer leaders/dancers hold up IMUA sign, for everyone to yell, followed by HAWAII from all fans.

Do this only once before the game starts and as needed later such as after every TD, at the start/end of the half and at the end of every game.

  108. haroldwah September 24, 2010 11:39 am

I was in Reno last year for the football game.

    Announcer: And that’s another Wolfpack

    Crowd: First Down

    Then: meow

Man I got sick of hearing that, but I give them credit, at least they have a plan for crowd participation. I was so grateful that someone on the Hawaii side (wahine I think) took charge and we did it right back to them whenever the Warriors made a first down.

  109. Slugger September 24, 2010 11:39 am

    sportsforfun,

Just learned something from talking to Coach Coolen last weekend re: playing extra games. The NCAA limits the number of games a team can play and who they can play. Having a volleyball tournament on the mainland would mean not having one here pre-season. It would defeat the purpose of getting local sponsorship, although some of the sponsors are national, but it would reduce the donation amount to the program from local sources. Would UH get more in sponsorship from Chevron or Pepsi by having a tournament on the mainland at, say, Las Vegas? Don’t know. Also, one of the draws for pre-season tournaments, is that teams get to play in HAWAII. Christian Brothers University in Tennessee is coming here for softball; I think coming to Hawaii is a bigger impetus than playing in LV for them.

  110. Slugger September 24, 2010 11:49 am

The pu is a triton conch shell. It would be nice to hear it at kickoffs.

    A-House,

Maybe we could use the IMUA – HAWAII kahea-pane (call-response) when we are receiving a punt or a kickoff.

#101 – Sportsforfun. I think Coach Shoji discuss a related issue on the first Call the Coach radio show. He said in the pre-conference season, they only want to play home games. UH is one of the few programs that makes a profit, it doesn’t make sense for UH to fly to mainland to play. Good teams are willing to come here play before their conferences start. He can subsidize their trips here, and make money. So he said its doubtful that UH will ever go to the mainland pre-conference.

“98 – that conch shell was pre-recorded. It was all part of the deal JJ had with composer Mike Post (famous for composing TV theme songs). I think he lives on Kauai. Post recorded the different chants (remenber Eo Eo Na Toa?) that they played on the PA system. The first year, Post was so disappointed in the sound quality, so the next year he paid for extra speakers (in the corners of the stadium) to boost the sound. I guess after JJ left, the agreement must have ended. I haven’t seen those speakers nor do they use the chants.

#105. They use to have a student dress up as a warrior back in the 1990’s. However, to make him look good, he use to wear a “muscle” body suit. This was after the “marshmellow” head mascot that lasted only one or two games. They had that warrior mascot for several years. However, I think the Hawaiian Studies department or maybe it was just Hawaiian groups in general, told the UH that its was culturally insensitive, plus the muscle suit made it even more artifical. So they stopped it. I think the mascots come under the Band? Or maybe the Student Govt? Not necessarily under the AD. When he became coach, JJ saw Vili, and liked him, so he made arrangements for Vili to perform. Not sure who paid the contract, Na Koa or JJ’s non-profit foundation. Same thing for Men’s VBall, they use to contract for Vili to perform…

  124. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc September 24, 2010 12:34 pm

Slugger – why wasthe softball alumni game scheduled for the opening night of the men’s basketball (real) season when they will be playing Montana State at the Rainbow Classic? These doubled-up schedules make it really really difficult for those of us who support both sports to be in two places at almost the same time.

I bet there were at close to a dozen double-ups with baseball and men’s volleyball this past season. I am not sure about men’s & women’s basketball, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that happened as well.

Although we’ll try to make the first hour of the softball game, we are definitely going to be at The Stan for the launch of the Rainbow Classic at 7 pm. It’s not likely that the post-game party at the softball stadium will still be going on by the time the men’s basketball game wraps up around 8:45 pm.

It’s important to me to support women’s sports teams, but I also need to be financially realistic about the men’s teams since we’re season ticket holders in all six sports.

As for the baseball/men’s basketball/men’s volleyball scheduling conflicts, I hope that they will be reduced or eliminated altogether.

#124 Its a challenge with the schedule. The visiting team wants to come and fly out, and get back to school, so alot of midweek games isn’t good too. The challenge with baseball is you want to start relatively early cuz you never really know how long the game is going to last. The revenue generating sports get the preference. I bet they also look at overhead costs for the venue. I know it drive Shoji nuts cause he can’t set his Vball schedule until Football’s schedule is done. It became an issue with last year’s first round NCAA playoffs. He couldn’t schedule it because UH always plays a home game that first saturday in December. The NCAA first round needs to be either Thur-Fri or Fri-Sat. The other teams couldn’t get here for Thur-Fri and UH won’t play Fri-Sat cause of football…

In the game against Colorado Bryant Moniz was 27 of 41 (66%) for 330 yards and 1 TD. I dont think thats a bad stat yet people want Moniz out? I understand though cause he takes his eye off the ball sometimes an bobbles the snap but still he’s having a pretty decent year. We just need to get our Run Game going because games where we produce only 7 yards rushing is putting a lot of pressure on Mo and The Receivers.

Doc – as a matter of fact the Alumnae game was scheduled before the Basketball schedule was, it is hard to get all of the Alumnae to be able to make the same date so they schedule it right after they play. Hard to schedule games when no other sport is playing, most team want to come over here towards the weekend, just like we do when we travel to the mainland. I guess you just have to pick which ever one you want to see.

  144. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc September 24, 2010 1:49 pm

    OTTO:

The softball game could have been scheduled for Sunday afternoon – no basketball at all that day.

If the decision were to play the Alumnae game on Saturday, it could have been scheduled at 3 pm with the post-game celebration around 5 pm. The Cal State Fullerton game isn’t until 7 pm.

As for the baseball v. other sports such as mens’ basketball or volleyball, what we found particularly irksome is that some weekends, no mens’ sports home games/matches were scheduled whereas other weekends, games/matches were doubled up.

With respect to the softball games and something going on at either The Les or The Stan, if the Wahine games could start 5:30 pm, there wouldn’t be much, if any conflict. It is very, very rare that the softball games last longer than an hour & a half.

The baseball games start at 6:35 pm on Friday and can last as long as ???. If there’s something going on at The Stan, we usually go to that game/match and listen to the radio broadcast from The Les. After the court sport is pau, we then head on over to the baseball game to catch the last couple of innings

The worst example was this past April 30 – the spring Warrior Bowl was being played at Ching Field and both the Wahine and the Basebows were playing at home in run-ups to the WAC championships.

Yes, I have expressed my concerns to the AD Administration, but they were not willing to make even modest time changes in the spring 2010 schedule.

I see that the men’s basketball team will be playing BYU there on December 4. No conflict. The NCAA first & second rounds of women’s volleyball will be played December 2 – 5 at a location TBD but definitely not in Hawai`i. The women’s basketball team will be in Portland that weekend.

The men’s volleyball & baseball schedules are not out yet nor is the 2011 softball schedule posted on the Department of Athletics’ website. As soon as they are released, I plan to see how many conflicts there are.

    CRW-

RE: ESPN3 and the game, I just checked on the ncaafb homepage, under the ‘ncaa schedule’ and it is listed there. Hope it’s right.

  152. Markazulu September 24, 2010 2:04 pm

Our Defense just said that in the past 3 games our line didnt try to get into position but they wanted to OVERPOWER the offensive line. Doesnt USC and Colorado have Linemen so I would think Overpowering wouldnt be the best thing to try. Lack of discipline just wrap up boys no need be fancy for your ESPN top 10 moment.

  153. Steve September 24, 2010 2:04 pm

Pomai, can you change my prediction to:

    CS 13 UH 45

Thank you, Mr. Gigi had already predicted what I originally submitted.

  154. Pomai September 24, 2010 2:09 pm

Doc we have a hard time now getting people in the stands if they started early like you want there would be even less people there, sorry I know that Softball isn’t making any money for UH but who’s doing better, also the Softball team got more national attention this year than any other sport save the sugar bowl, an a lot of that wasn’t to good. It time to quit making the softball program a second class citizen.

  158. Committed Road Warrior September 24, 2010 2:18 pm

It’s pathetic that my internet connection is so slow that I have to switch to the pirated stream of the TCU-SMU game, even though I get ESPN3 as a part of being a Verizon internet subscriber and can watch that game (and scores of others) through there.

The near-continuous buffering of the ESPN3 feed makes it unwatchable. Looks like I gotta have at least a 3meg connection for a stable stream.

  159. Steve September 24, 2010 2:22 pm

Pomai, is there a reason why only 2 of the softball recruits got numbers, are the others redshirting?

    Steve,

I wouldn’t look too much into that. Its so early and the team didn’t even take their photos yet. Probably a simple issue of what #s to assign and whatnot.

Pomai – 19-10 = 65.5% plus they made the conference playoffs for the 1st time in several years. Exciting game and the price is right.

skycap – #171 – I think almost *all* women’s bb teams, with the exception possibly of UConn, lose money. I also don’t think JD has much choice in the scheduling when it comes to WAC games. (See playing at LaTech & NMSU with only 1 travel day in-between)

  174. Steve September 24, 2010 3:47 pm

    Thank you, Pomai

  175. Slugger September 24, 2010 3:47 pm

Watching the TCU – SMU game. Nice interception by SMU’s Moore. We need more of that in our game. But a nice kick return on the TCU side. Ah…I need to go shopping.

  176. Pomai September 24, 2010 3:52 pm

jm2375 – 50 -16 they went to the WCWS playoffs, led the country in HR’s which is very exciting and the price can’t be beat.

  184. Ralph September 24, 2010 4:16 pm

Steve there is no bat issue, it was ESPN Michelle Smith trying to downgrade the home runs by UH and all other teams. Why, she is a former collegiate pitcher at Oklahoma State and she prefers the 1-0 game, she wants a pitchers duel.

UH uses Easton bats, all available over the counter but each year they come out with new models. UH used an older model by choice, newer models were also available.

  185. Kazz September 24, 2010 4:18 pm

    Steve,

That’s Coach Coolen’s area and it seems like nothing but a bunch of BS anyway.

The Wahine program has done NOTHING illegal.

  189. chopsueyboy September 24, 2010 4:25 pm

    Chopsueyboy,

    I…. Eh..

    Nevermind… too easy.

  196. Ralph September 24, 2010 4:34 pm

Steve the bats were never an issue with the NCAA, all bats were legal with the NCAA, and the umpires inspect every bat prior to each game.

Only the ESPN crew made it an issue, especially Michelle Smith. They mentioned coach Candrea, Arizona, who wants composite bats eliminated from use, but his girls also use them since it is legal. He and Michelle claims that composite bats can be “juiced” to exceed the ball exit speed off the bat. UH broke Arizona’s home run record, case of sour grapes.

I am in Honolulu, now, but lived a little over 3 years in South Renton, from 2000 – 2003, worked for an airline catering company at SeaTac. Was able to transfer in 2003 back to Hawaii. Loved hiking the Mt. Rainier trailss.

  219. LizKauai m/ September 24, 2010 5:45 pm

sportsfor fun- check out the June Jones Foundation website and you will see…

  220. gigi-hawaii September 24, 2010 5:47 pm

Yeah, I, too, watched the SMU game today. For a while, it was pretty exciting and I was tempted to record it for hubby. Then, the game went downhill.

  221. wafan September 24, 2010 5:49 pm

    Steve . . .

Renton used to have some good “local” food restaurants back in the 80’s. Folks here could not figure out the food (maybe it was too exotic?) so they closed after a year or so.

Your comment about 405 the other day — they did straighten the “S” a few years ago. You were probably here while they were working on it.

  222. wafan September 24, 2010 5:51 pm

    Liz . . .

    You still here?

What the heck did you do last night?!?! You said good night and the place went dark.

Sheesh. Such power. Or a strong backhand with a rubba slippa.

    Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha!

  223. wafan September 24, 2010 5:53 pm

Bought some Corn-Nuts for the first time in a bunch of years.

    YUM!

Either they are really crunchy or I am chewing my teeth.

  224. Steve September 24, 2010 5:54 pm

Yes, I was. My nephew spent a summer at Mcchord AFB, he was in the UH AF ROTC. Was able to find a couple of “local” style restuarant around when I was there, especially Federal Way, there was a good restuarant that served Hawaiian Food.

  225. wafan September 24, 2010 5:55 pm

The Warriors should be fired up for this game with CS. Need to prove to themselves they can play a full game. Never mind proving anything to the fans. Take care of business on the field.

  226. wafan September 24, 2010 5:59 pm

Hawai’ian food in Federal Way? Is the Saimin Says?

  227. Derek September 24, 2010 5:59 pm

It is a little strange to see the E’o na toa insignia on the SMU helmet. The first time I saw it I said, hey “that’s the warrior”. Then I remember that’s from “you must respond, this is battle” and the HAKA shirt. I should know because I ordered a black T-shirt online.

I thought SMU made it a game. They moved the ball on the ground very effectively. Run plays are done very well and the line opened up nicely for that big running back. TCU would have scored more but QB Dalton threw 2 picks which resulted in at least 1 SMU touchdown.

SMU QB had a difficult time throwing the ball…he was hit hard and often. But I can see that SMU will win a lot of football games in Conference USA and they will get to a bowl game for sure. June Jones has got them playing very hard. Within 2 years I predict Jones will get SMU into the Top 25. As for TCU, they look like they have an unbeaten season with their only maybes are Air Force and Utah, but they should be favored in all of them.

  228. Steve September 24, 2010 6:05 pm

Yes, owner is a transplanted Hawaii person. Actually, attended UW, decided to stay an open the Hawaiian Restuarant.

  229. sportsforfun September 24, 2010 6:06 pm

HA! That is where I head if have to have a saimin fix — the Sumo is my favorite!!!

They moved from that little one counter shop to a bigger place. They moved into the space vacated by the Japanese restaurant across the parking lot.

Gosh. That Japanese restaurant was really good, too!

Haha, wafan, you know the answer to that…

I love corn nuts… but I did crack a tooth on one so gave them up for chips.

  232. Don Weir September 24, 2010 6:22 pm

    CRW

I do not have access to Fresno tickets.

My suggestion would be to find where UH fans are seated and go to the Fresno site and order one close by. I have noticed that there are open seats around UH sections so any ticket would get you in and then roam to UH section and sit on down.

I might add that every ticket that is purchased though UH $10 goes to UH Athletic Scholarships.

Follow UH to Seattle and to UNLV next year as there will be some great opportunities for events. Pehaps something will come up on Whidby Island. Look it up.

    More to come.

  233. wafan September 24, 2010 6:22 pm

    Liz . . .

Sorry about the tooth. Chips. Mmmmmm. Have you tried the Kirkland chips in the brown bag? Needless to say it is a big bag.

They really remind me the old Maui Potato chips. Thick and lightly salted.

And, I would rather never find out about that backhand with a rubba-slippa — I bruise easily.

    Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!

  234. LizKauai m/ September 24, 2010 6:23 pm

    http://www.postandcourier.com/news/2010/sep/25/bucs-face-different-hawaii-team/

“CSU’s defense has struggled against the run in the early going, allowing an average of 5 yards per rush and 223 yards per game.

However, they may be in luck tonight. Hawaii, despite an effort to be balanced, averages only 2.8 yards per rushing attempt.

Defensively, the Warriors have managed only one sack in three games and have yet to intercept a pass.

That could bode well for CSU’s passing attack, which has clicked this season. “

  235. Steve September 24, 2010 6:23 pm

That Japanese Restuarant closed, I am sad, food was good.

  236. wafan September 24, 2010 6:29 pm

We had a really good Japanese restaurant down here. Really popular, too. Then a new owner came in and wanted to make more money so he cut all kinds of corners and cut the menu offering. I never went back.

  237. wafan September 24, 2010 6:31 pm

Is there somewhere we can see the total votes each band received thusfar for the 5-0 contest?

  238. wafan September 24, 2010 6:36 pm

Maybe need to head up to Federal Way for a meal tomorrow.

    Nytal!

  239. Ipu Man September 24, 2010 6:36 pm

Interesting thing about Japanese food and how it is supposed

to help you live over a hundred years old…Recently, the Japanese

government discovered that most of their supposedly 100-plus

senior citizens died before reaching that age. And that their

relatives never reported it so they could still receive their government

    pensions…

  240. papajoe2 September 24, 2010 6:41 pm

Aloha Oe: from 9/22 “BTW, were your daughters successful in obtaining tickets to last week’s game?”… Yes, they did! one was w/her husband on the UH bench side 2 rows behind Dunnachie’s kicking net, and the other was w/3 friends from work 4 rows from the goal post. It all worked out.

    GO WARRIORS!

  253. jm2375 (Backflip) September 24, 2010 8:46 pm

This is “screecher 1” as my mother puts it. I miss men’s volleyball. Its more fun. Its too easy for the women. Plus I like when Stretch blackmails them 😀

    Aloha!

Glad your daughters were successul. Too bad on the game outcome, tho.

Hopefully, you’ll be able to *watch* tomorrow’s game in Cali.

    Keep the Faith, Tyler!

    GO WARRIORS!

  258. Curt September 24, 2010 9:31 pm

    LizKauai,

One sack and no interceptions…pretty sad for our defense. We’re not pressuring the opposing QB much. Hence, no interceptions. Compared to the past, we also don’t seem to blitz as much these days.

  259. Curt September 24, 2010 9:33 pm

    LizKauai,

    What the latest on Colt?

  263. LizKauai (iPad) September 24, 2010 9:42 pm

Curt, I think we are going to see a bunch of sacks tomorrow night!

    Haven’t heard anything about Colt..

    ST? How’s Colt doing?

  264. Slugger September 24, 2010 10:18 pm

Home after stopping by my friend’s store & picked up some huge avocados…yum! Thanks, Tom!

Great win! Fun VB game! Being part of the half-time show is a once in a lifetime thing…made memories, like Bulla says. My Mom won’t forget it. My bruised thumb reminds me of why I haven’t played VB in decades. Can’t serve worth ****. My niece woulda done better but she’s playing VB at Puget Sound. About 100 Maryknollers were at the game tonight to see Alyssa Ji on the Nevada team, but she didn’t play tonight. Nevada was never far enough ahead to put her in.

  265. LizKauai (iPad) September 24, 2010 10:23 pm

    Haha. Congrats, Slugger!

  266. Slugger September 24, 2010 10:33 pm

    LizK,

I’m sure if you were there you would’ve video’d it. Hilarious…they let me move up into the court to serve since I couldn’t get it over the net. Fun to just get out there & try tho. The older lady who sits behind my Mom was drawn, but she told the guy she wasn’t going to run around the court, but she knew someone who would & she came & got me. Sure… I’ll play! I can tell AnnodahLiz we’ve now both had our minute of fame at the SSC. Hula has taught me not to be shy…

K, now to make almond float for the T-Gate. Not enough lettuce to make salad.

  290. mctruck September 25, 2010 4:14 am

    Curt -ur#259,

    Amen brother.

  291. mctruck September 25, 2010 4:19 am

Looks like JJ’s SMU players ran out of gas by the end of the 3rd quarter. I was pulling for an upset but TCU was much too much for the Mustangs.

  292. Garret September 25, 2010 4:24 am

    mctruck,

I didn’t see the game but I looked at the participation charts and read a couple of articles. SMU doesn’t have the depth they need because of their small senior class (the players left over from their previous coach). SMU played *3* seniors and TCU played 26 last night.

SMU has the #1 recruiting class for C-USA in 2011 according to scout, with 22 commits including a 4* and a bunch of 3* players. The gap between them and TCU is narrowing quickly.

  293. Garret September 25, 2010 4:25 am

I am so glad that ST’s article today highlighted Jordan Monico. Getting 7 tackles in 3 games on kickoff coverage is *impressive*. I just loved this quote from him.

“I have to go all out. I only have a limited amount of plays. I’ll use all of my energy during those times.”

    http://www.staradvertiser.com/sports/sportsnews/20100925_After_3_games_UH_has_narrowed_roster.html

  294. Pomai September 25, 2010 4:27 am

Garret I don’t think JJ had the talent like he did when he took over the Warriors, but I would not be surprised to see SMU in the top 25 next year and even better the next. Playing the what if game, I wonder how we would be if JJ had stayed?

  295. Garret September 25, 2010 4:46 am

    Pomai,

If JJ stayed and that meant that HF stayed then I don’t think that UH would have the improvements to the Athletic Department that have been taking place. The Ching Foundation only thought of their donation after the publicity about UH’s facilities that happened because JJ left. JD has done a lot of good things for the Athletic Department to raise money (parking lot acution, etc.) and many of the facilities have been improved (Ching Field, coaches offices, etc.) under him.

I think UH’s recruiting misses Reinebold, but Mack didn’t want him.

  296. Pomai September 25, 2010 4:53 am

Garret I don’t know if the fumbler would have stayed, I still think that he and JJ did not like each other. I really like JD but one thing I would have liked to see would have been JJ staying an also taking over the AD job along with being HC. I liked his vision. IMHO if UH would have given him freerain I think we would not be in the situation we are in today. But like I said it’s the what if game.

  297. CoolEthan September 25, 2010 5:02 am

I still hold true that I believe JJ made a notioned sacrafice to vacate UH knowingly to rid of Herman and to help restart a new life for the athletic dept.

Cheers to a new game tonight, helping group back the team with the confidence needed to make big plays and closure in the red zone.

    Score BIG

    WIN BIG!

  298. CoolEthan September 25, 2010 5:06 am

btw, morning Pomai, Garret, and McTruck.

Just us 4 ? Gameday on the Blueturf got me up early.

  299. Garret September 25, 2010 5:12 am

Good morning CoolEthan. I don’t know if JJ sacrificed himself, but I do think that he felt that HF wouldn’t lose his job if he stayed. We all remember how McClain had HF’s back and Hinshaw publicly supported HF also. If HF had been able to sign JJ to an extension, then he would have taken all of that credit and probably got an extension himself.

Interesting thought by Pomai about having JJ be coach and AD…but I don’t think that JJ would have been a good AD. Plus, that job is so huge, especially with UH’s budget problems, that I don’t think that anyone can do a good job at both. I do know that if JJ was at UH then he would have been pushing UH to go indy for awhile now.

Kids are off to Chinese school now. Got to go. Should be a fun game to watch tonight!

    #298. I agree, CoolEthan.

This year we have Mouse. We will see greatness again. But it takes time to leered how to BELIEVE.

Yesterday, sounds like TCU went after Padron the way UGA went after Colt. It was a tough one for the Mustangs. But they have a whole season ahead of them. Pony Up!

    And so do we!

    GO WARRIORS!

  332. 808ike September 25, 2010 6:51 am

    LizK,

Are you coming over to the island of skyscrapers?

  333. whitey September 25, 2010 6:59 am

Most interesting comment by Coach McMackin in this morning’s news, “We are going to play our best players now”. So that means that we were playing with our 2nd and 3rd team for the previous 3 games???? I don’t get it??? Maybe I stupid, but I didn’t think it would take this long to find his 1st team.

By the way, good morning Tsaikos.

  334. whitey September 25, 2010 7:04 am

But, are they sure that they will be playing their “best” players. Somehow the wording is not appropriate and in my opinion that is why problems on d and o remains. I think he should have just said that the team is ready to play, period.

  335. whitey September 25, 2010 7:07 am

Last question, Are The Warriors Ready To Play????? I believe they are, but are they ready to show what Warrior football is about??? I truly hope so or going be in for one long season.

  336. papajoe2 September 25, 2010 7:07 am

808ike, I love corned beef and onion with poi. That’s all you bringing or are we workin on something else (joke! via commercial):)

  340. whitey September 25, 2010 7:12 am

  341. whitey September 25, 2010 7:13 am

my friend was playing blackjack in vegas. in the first seat was a older filipino man and he was in the 2nd seat. my friend peeked at the man’s hand and saw that he had a pair of 10’s and my friend had 11. the man hit and my friend went off, telling the man he had 20 and he was taking his card. without flinching, the filipino told my friend, “YOU NEBER KNOW”.

  345. 808ike September 25, 2010 7:19 am

    Pomai,

Retirement= no worries. Have yet to figure this out. When someone retires, one gets a watch as a retirement gift. Why? Don’t need to show up to work on time anymore.

  353. papajoe2 September 25, 2010 7:33 am

UH men’s sports +4,047,351. UH women’s sports -2,459,839. Thank god for people like Pomai, Kazz, Slugger and all those that promote and help out UH’s women sports. Also the late Patsy Mink for Title XIX. I’m not knocking women’s sports, just want to let people know that the women’s sports need our help even just a little. If there was no Title XIX, then business wise, it would be obvious that most women’s sports would be cut along with some men’s sports. Seeing the numbers out in the open is kind of eye opening.

    ppj2,

Tuna sandwiches for T-gate because its 2 for 1. If not eaten fast enough, it will turn into crusty tuna sandwich.

  356. Garret September 25, 2010 7:43 am

    papajoe2,

That doesn’t count the other $11.6 million that UH spends. JD purposely took out the expenses for things like trainers, administrators, academic counselors, tutors, facilities, etc. so that the sports would look better. If you look at the numbers that JD provided, UH came out $1.6 million *ahead*…but, the reality is that Upper Campus has to give the Athletic Department $10 million per year.

You can do all types of neat stuff with accounting by just excluding some categories and selectively providing information. The bottom line is that UHAD gets $10 million from Upper Campus and the numbers that the Advertiser provided indicate that UH made $1.6 million. That means that a *lot* of things were excluded…and the “profit” made by certain sports would actually have been losses if all expenses were considered.

  357. Garret September 25, 2010 7:47 am

Note that the Star-Advertiser article mentions that the expenses listed may exclude things like coaches salaries, scholarships, equipment, travel and some facility costs. If you don’t consider any of those things expenses, you can make the losses not seem so bad for some sports and make other sports appear to make a profit. Nice PR. Good spin. But we should see how the Star-Advertiser carefully worded their description of the numbers.

    Hey Garret –

Did anybody send you a “Throwback Jack” Warrior antenna ball yet? I am sending some out for Rich and Rainbow Cliff next week. Do you need one?

  362. 808ike September 25, 2010 8:02 am

    Garret,

Your girls must be as smart as the dad to learn a second language. I don’t pursue a second language because I have enough trouble with the first.

  364. Garret September 25, 2010 8:07 am

    DPK,

I think somebody already took care of me for the antenna balls yet. Thank you for the offer, though.

  365. papajoe2 September 25, 2010 8:11 am

I love tuna sandwiches with poi. Instead of tuna I like 3na.

  366. Garret September 25, 2010 8:12 am

    808ike,

My father-in-law cannot speak English too well so my girls need to learn Chinese to better communicate with him. Plus, it isn’t bad for them to learn another language. We’re hoping to add Japanese also to their education later, but for now Chinese is good for them to learn.

They go to an accredited school so they have to take midterms and finals and are in class for 3.5 hours every Saturday. I don’t know how my younger daughter sat through 3.5 hours every Saturday last year when she was 4 years old (most in the class were 6 years old last year like my older daughter). Neither girl liked the comprehensive midterms and finals, especially since they had to write the Chinese characters (lots were the same as the kanji I learned in school) and part of the test was a 1-on-1 Q&A in Chinese.

Anyway, I’m going into game mode now–I think I’ll watch the Army game again. I’ll be back on the blog much later.

  367. RedZone September 25, 2010 8:16 am

ST I checked your game day roster and we have 2 centers listed. I am assuming that Tiwanak will be starting? But then I was thinking that it would look like a pretty good short yardage oline. Just need to make one of the tackles eligible. Or move one of the centers to h back or full back.

    Good Morning Gang…

Can’t help but feel good about Paipai and Kaniela on the weak side…i think the focus on play, productivity, and less substitution will lead to less confusion on defense and I would be greatly surprised to see another substitution penalty today.

I’m also hoping to see Sila get some playing time. If we’re going to run up the gut in the red zone – we need hogs with push. I for one wanna see what Sila and Leonard can do.

    …GO WARRIORS.

We very often hear ourselves quarrelling with the littlest of things, isn’t it foolish?

  384. Marlene Rasco September 25, 2010 11:44 pm

This movie is surely a chick-flick but a good a person. The dialog is witty and Emma Stone’s character is amazing. My only criticism is that Emma is way as well beautiful and cool while in the beginning from the motion picture for me to believe that no one particular of the reverse intercourse had possibly observed her. They should have made her plainer and geekier so her transformation right into a modern day Hester Prynne (the adulteress within the Scarlet Letter) later would have been much a great deal more dramatic. But total a enjoyable motion picture and I loved the references towards previous ’80’s John Hughes teen films.I extremely suggest this motion picture for women. Males, keep at house and stop clogging the user critiques with your input. Everybody is aware of you’re not going to like this type of film. One particular wonders why you went to determine it inside very first location. If you did it to please a woman, then suck it up and keep your mouth shut. Your determination obviously wasn’t the movie.John Hughes could quite possibly have passed away, but the torch has been passed to Will Gluck, who will take one in the very first intelligent teen motion picture scripts that I’ve observed in way more than a decade and knocks out a residence run movie with performances by a top-notch forged headed by Emma Stone, who finds new floor as a female lead, and awesome supporting performances by Amanda Bynes, Thomas Haden Church, Patricia Clarkson, Stanley Tucci Lisa Kudrow along with the rest of the cast. The title may likely make it seem like a sleazy Superbad for teen girls, however the movie is a modern teenager riff on the Scarlett Letter (“A”) the Hawthorne novel about Hester Prynne, who is unfairly shunned by her community for any perceived tryst which has a married guy.Stone’s character,Olive, tells her best friend a little white lie, only to possess it blossom right into a rep about her becoming a slut that gets her attention that she’s secretly craved through the relaxation of school, even if it is bad attention. When the lie magnifies to epic and ridiculous proportions, the query that the movie seeks to reply is how Olive can put that genie again into the bottle, and can she ever be the same? Bert V. Royal knocks out a script that’s old-school witty and charming. It intentionally dredges up homages to Hughes classics like “Sixteen Candles,” “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and “Say Anything”which it joins inside the pantheon of generational teen comedy movies. A entirely pleasant movie for teens and adults alike.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

  410. Barry Cryer September 29, 2010 4:20 pm

I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

“The Back-up Plan” is usually a nice loving comedy! That not really a formulaic romantic comedy, when it possesses a great perspective. The idea deals with precisely how expecting a baby gals requiring you to convey to your dog brand new observed spouse concerning the woman’s being pregnant along with a person’s kid. It really is uncommon to get not offensive movies so that you can discover this sort of subject matter, and i think “The Back-up Plan” has done perfectly in this element the way it increases the film some reliability involving the actual easy going silliness. “The Back-up Plan” provides a silly joke along with romance, and the closing is usually in contact with and that is an extra advantage. We relished enjoying the item.

The project had been in the pet products works for about 20 years. Currently, NJ Transit and high performance butterfly valves Amtrak share a century-old two-track tunnel beneath the Hudson River. The new tunnel would add two more Chlorine dioxide tracks, more than doubling the number of NJ Transit trains that could pass under the river. Mark Nardolillo, CEO of tunnel contractor BEM Systems in Chatum, said 10 to 15 employees he has working on it will lose their flat solar collector jobs.

  519. hid lights October 15, 2010 3:16 am

HID lights and conversion kits are becoming an evolving trend for automotive enthusiasts as well as those seeking the best performance from their utes. An HID kit is advantageous as it not only updates the presence of your vehicle but also significantly improves the performance of your headlights. Lumen output of HID lights can be as much as 3 times brighter than stock halogen headlights. This not only allows other drivers to see you but also visibility will be dramatically improved with a hid kit.

  520. hid lights October 15, 2010 3:33 am

Cars with HID lights are better equiped to stand all sorts of conditions. HID light improves your lights and also does not degredate anything from the full beam lights.

  521. hid lights October 15, 2010 3:41 am

Brightness is the biggest advantage of an HID kit. Not only will you be able to see better at night, but other road users will be able to see as well.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.
