Brown to Rams; Paredes, Meatoga, Masch get NFL deals

ab

Former Warrior linebacker Aaron Brown was selected in the seventh round by the St. Louis Rams.

Brown said he was driving to a friend’s house when he received The Call.

He said he will compete at weak-side linebacker.

Brown said the rookie camp is in two weeks.

He said he used to follow the Rams because of  running back Marshall Faulk. Brown used to be a running back.

* * * * *

Corey Paredes said he has reached a free-agent deal with the Minnesota Vikings. He said he will be used as a middle linebacker. He said he has not been told yet when he will report to rookie camp.

vik

* * * * *

Vaughn Meatoga has reached a free-agent deal with the Washington Redskins. He will be a nose tackle.

* * * * *

Zach Masch has reached an agreement with the Seattle Seahawks. He will compete at defensive end and defensive tackle.

* * * * *

The Warrior Bowl is significant in measuring how players perform “when the lights go on,” head coach Norm Chow.

A greater emphasis will be placed on the 14 practices. Key players — Billy Ray Stutzmann, Paipai Falemalu, Leroy Lutu — did not play in the Warrior Bowl. What’s more, the Warriors only used the basic offensive and defensive schemes to shield several plays from future opponents who might have been scouting the game.

And like some of those Disney DVDs, the Warriors are going into the vault. Training camp , which opens in early August, is expected to be closed to the public.

    Good morning bloggers!

Good morning, gang! Good morning, BG!

It was great seeing a little of what the Warriors are doing. Loved getting to say Hey! to the guys. I miss them.

    Off to class this morning…

I think Slugger is forwarding instructions for Chrome. I’m not familiar with too many browsers…basically just Chrome and IE. Chrome is really good for voting 😀

If you use a browser other than Chrome, I’m certain some other Tsaiko can send you instructions. I understand that that has been a topic of conversation previously…like you I haven’t been around much recently.

I’ve heard that voting multiple times (which I don’t condone, of course) can be a zen like experience (seriously). If you are anxious and rushing, aches and pains can set in in less than 30 minutes because of the tension. However, if done unhurriedly but quickly while concentrating and relaxing on each keystroke and mouse-click, it can be turned into a tea ceremony like experience…so I’ve been told. 😀

  5. tommui April 28, 2012 7:23 am

    GOOD MORNING HAWAII!

Great articles in the SA this morning on the Wahine Softball team and last night’s Warrior Bowl.

  7. BG April 28, 2012 7:28 am

Interesting…I guess Arioto’s support group doesn’t work Sat mornings like during the weekday mornings.

  8. BG April 28, 2012 7:30 am

    OK…time to vote 😆

  19. Ipu Man April 28, 2012 8:11 am

Judging by the NFL draft so far, big is in. Big tackles, big guards,

big tight ends, and big backs. Sort of like Norm Chow is doing.

I think he knows what he is doing and we all will be pleasantly

surprised next year as we go undefeated. Go Warriors!

  20. Da Punchbowl Kid April 28, 2012 8:11 am

    Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂

    Voted!

Is the Wahine Softball game still goin’ off at 2PM today?

  21. Stephen Tsai April 28, 2012 8:16 am

    Waa and Sale are correct.

  22. Stephen Tsai April 28, 2012 8:17 am

By the way, Justin “J.T.” Turner is not eligible to transfer yet. He still has to take a couple of classes this summer.

  23. sports for fun April 28, 2012 8:20 am

Mariota 80 yd. TD run…of course, in a spring game…

  24. sports for fun April 28, 2012 8:26 am

  30. krump1_AKA_protector April 28, 2012 8:56 am

BG on #4 and tommui on #9,

Have been attaining that state in the last week; hope it helps Stephanie as others continue. Or was I just in a comatose state from being drained at work, lol?

  31. kapakahi April 28, 2012 8:57 am

    Like Mana said….Isaac Savaiinaea.

  32. al April 28, 2012 9:02 am

    not so wac-ky…

appaently la tech, tex san antonio will join he c-usa along with fla intl and and north texas st in 2013.

mwc will soon formally invite utah st and san jose st in 2013.

the wac will probably melt away or become dust in the wind.

  33. al April 28, 2012 9:03 am

it’ll be interesting to see where boise state will land their non-football sports.

  34. krump1_AKA_protector April 28, 2012 9:03 am

    ST on #22,

I’m just glad of the possibility that “J.T” may find his way to Manoa in the Fall! I’m sure Coach Daronte Jones would be ecstatic to add to his depth at Corner.

  35. kapakahi April 28, 2012 9:13 am

    #35,

Looks as though JT might be playing safety instead….like he’s been playing at Scottsdale CC.

    @43

WW, since they report percentages, it all depends on how many votes are coming in at the time. For the same reason, positions can change quickly. However, as the total number of votes accummulates, changes will be more difficult. Don’t be discouraged…stay the course. Thanks for the help!

  56. madeinhawaii April 28, 2012 11:47 am

Congratulations to the UH Women’s Tennis team on capturing their first ever WAC title! Way to finish with the WAC !!!! Whooh tah!

Yay, irritate Margie time! Thanks for always posting the link to vote for Steph, guys. Funny, when I vote on the iPad, it doesn’t ask me to put in all those crazy alphabets/numerals to guard against robo-voting. Why is that? I believe I can vote on laptop and iPad on the same day – and yes, I’m voting for just Steph.

    Congratulations to Aaron Brown…awesome!

  71. PowderPuff April 28, 2012 1:41 pm

I’m surprised no one’s gone after the ‘meat’ yet …

    as in “Meatoga.”

  79. kev-1 April 28, 2012 2:09 pm

Rams website lists all their draft picks in the headlines section by name . . . EXCEPT the “LB from Hawaii.” Even in the article they list all his stats, but still don’t mention his name. What’s up with that?

  80. kev-1 April 28, 2012 2:10 pm

Good luck to all the Warriors that hook up the FA deals too.

  81. kev-1 April 28, 2012 2:11 pm

  83. whitey April 28, 2012 2:13 pm

    You in Vegas?

  90. kev-1 April 28, 2012 2:18 pm

No respect for one of the top LBs in the WAC. I think I remember reading that the Rams were thinking of Brown as a RB/FB or something right? Now he gets a shot at LB? I hope he just finds his way to the field. I think he will.

  91. Ipu Man April 28, 2012 2:18 pm

Maybe the NFL is trying to distant itself from Hawaii…

you know, sort of like an ostrich bird by sticking its head

into the ground pretending we don’t exist…

  92. madeinhawaii April 28, 2012 2:19 pm

I didn’t think Brown even was graded above 40%… he kind of slipped under their radar.

  139. BG April 28, 2012 4:20 pm

An incredible game! I give credit to Moses for coming back from yesterday’s game. Two competitive teams going head to head and not giving an inch. Wartner just took it away.

ai-eee-soos…been listening to the game on radio and putting the motar down for your bricks 😀

  140. d1shima(Galaxy 'd) April 28, 2012 4:21 pm

  145. Kekoa April 28, 2012 5:33 pm

Alex is putting on a clinic for the SoftBows. Right after making a sparkling defensive play, she crushed a shot to center to give the Bows a 2 run lead.

    Excellent!

    Being the Titas!

  155. RedZone April 28, 2012 5:41 pm

Steph pitches no hitter in her final home game.

  156. BG April 28, 2012 5:46 pm

How sweet for Ricketts…a no-hitter in her last game at the Quarry.

With the sweep, don’t Na Wahine go 2.5 games up on Fresno? Doesn’t that mean that they are the WAC champs if they win one out of three against Utah State next week?

  157. Bugaz April 28, 2012 6:23 pm

Best of luck to all of our Warriors as they pursue the NFL dream!!!

  158. Bugaz April 28, 2012 6:23 pm

    Congrats the Wahine SoftBows!

  159. oldtimer808 April 28, 2012 6:39 pm

I have to say this again that Coach Coolen’s hitting philosophy is spot on. I know he had a few negative people earlier in the year complaining when the ladies were struggling but slap hitting is not where its at. The ladies are not going for the fences but the homers are a product of seeing the ball and hitting the bugga.

  160. oldtimer808 April 28, 2012 6:41 pm

By the way Mr. Tsai is the young lady at Punahou’s track team featured in the paper related to you.

  161. BigHiloFan2 April 28, 2012 6:51 pm

doze were nice games today for the Titas.

hats off to da SoftBows. hats off to Coolen. way to represent Hawaii!

Solid games by the Wahine against a tenacious Fresno State team… Got to love the finish! … whoo hooo… !

  163. BigHiloFan2 April 28, 2012 6:53 pm

good luck to Aaron Brown, Zach Masch, Vaughn Meaetoga, Corey Paredes. Best of luck to you.

    Go Warriors!

  164. Kanole April 28, 2012 6:54 pm

As a die hard Rams fan, alright Aaron Brown! I’m confident he’ll make the team. They also drafted Janoris Jenkins and Trumaine Johnson who had trouble with the law. Regarding drafting Aaron, “continuing a theme of drafting players of a questionable character”. OUCH!!

I don’t know … I was just voting and it turned to 27.3%

  168. madeinhawaii April 28, 2012 7:01 pm

If the Wahine only win one against Utah State and BYU wins all against Nevada, I think it’s a shared conference title. Got to go for the gusto!

  169. madeinhawaii April 28, 2012 7:02 pm

I thought maybe Pollard would get a look and a free agent try out.

The Wahine is a game up in the standings over 2nd place BYU. Fresno down to 3rd after today’s double-header loss.

Kudos to Na Wahine for sweeping Fresno State! Congrats to the Seniors!

  173. kama krab April 28, 2012 8:33 pm

    Howzit Everybody,

Was good to see the action on Friday. All I gotta say is get PLENTY of work to be done. In my opinion the offense look really bad for most of the game. Defense look descent but it was hard to really tell due to the offense not really doing anything. Like I said get plenty of work still need to be done but gotta have faith in Uncle Norm.

Was standing next to Scott Pagano’s dad. Man the boy is huge but look like he was kind of uninterested in the game or anything else that was happening and it look like they left really early.

Also saw Kennedy and unlike Scott, look like Kennedy was very interested and stayed till the end.

  176. Hilo Moon April 28, 2012 8:38 pm

It was sportsmanship and Aloha at its best when the Fresno State team stood in line on the first base path and the Wahine presented the Bulldog seniors with lei and hugs. Impressive that each Fresno senior was introduced separately. A “chicken skin” moment that I’m sure moved many to tears. Go Wahine … Go Dogs!

  177. Slugger April 28, 2012 8:44 pm

    BHF2 ~

    Re: #168

I gotta disagree and question your opinion couselor. I’m concerned about the character of the doggie coach.

Other than a sudden attack of “Sour Grapes” why would a coach complain to the umpire about the bat Alex used to hit her homer?

Not a scrappah, Just a shell of a coach she used to be.

  183. Da Punchbowl Kid April 28, 2012 10:18 pm

Awesome time at RWSS today. Nice shower of blessing right at the end of Ms. Rickett’s no hitter. Tremendous win for the Wahine! Congrats to Coach Coolen and the team. Special thanks to the wonderful booster club folks.

okay just to be fair…breaking news reports ricketts’ no-no, basebows loss, and the four nfl’ers.

but, where oh where is the uh tennis team’s wac championship?

  189. al April 29, 2012 12:38 am

congrats to the softball team’s success today. both parnaby and ricketts delivered the goods by shutting out the fresneck doggettes to take over first place in the wac.

not to forget wartner’s walk off homer in extra innings to end the first game. then she hits another bomb to give parnaby all the runs she needed in the nightcap.

  190. al April 29, 2012 12:41 am

what to do?…i am sure this is something that our football braintrust is pondering at this very moment. in regards to the qb situation that is.

do they go with what they got, that which they were dealt with coming in to spring?

or do they beat the bushes all summer in search of the holy grail?

Congrats to our Warrior NFL hopefuls! Here’s hoping they can make their dreams real.

Had a great time at RWSS yesterday – a nail biter first game and a no hitter second! Still can’t get over the way the blessing shower fell right at the end of the second game. Talk about chicken skin!

Thanks to koakane and President Pomai for their excellent color commentary. You guys make the game all the more enjoyable. Nice to see all the Tsaiko boosters out in full force. Another big congrats to Coach Coolen and the ladies. Good luck in the games ahead.
