Thursday ramblings

• While Fetaiagogo Fonoti has declared himself physically fit for tomorrow’s season opener, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he is held out of the game. He hasn’t had a full practice in more than a week — he did not attend yesterday’s practice because of a swelling in his left knee — and he is much needed for the ensuing two-game, 11-day road trip. Besides, Liko Satele has played well in recent practices. Fonoti most likely will be used on a need-to-play basis.

• Yesterday’s hold-me-back scuffle between unlikely combatants — slotback Kealoha Pilares and cornerback Jeramy Bryant — is a clear indication the Warriors are ready face somebody other than themselves. “Everything’s cool,” Bryant said. “We have great respect for each other.”

• Kicker Scott Enos has been driving deep kickoffs in the past week. He had struggled early in the preseason while adjusting to the workload. Now, he is meeting his hang-time goals for kickoffs. His kicks are either reaching the end zone or placing in the corners.

    I would sit Fonoti. 🙂

  2. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 9:44 am

Touchbacks for Enos sounds good to me! 😀

  3. tommui September 3, 2009 9:44 am

Hey – top five, maybe even two or three!

Anyone going to the volleyball game tonight?

  4. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 9:44 am

Has DPK called back yet? 🙄

  5. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 9:47 am

Scuffles can be tolerated as long as no one gets hurt! That rule even applies on the Warrior Beat!!! 😀

  6. cheepono September 3, 2009 9:47 am

    top 10.

    cheeeeeeeepono…

    aloha thursday folks!

  7. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 9:47 am

    Okay – I’ll go fetch the others…. 🙄

  8. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 9:51 am

MIH – Tough call. I guess I’ll have to (reluctantly, and quietly) cheer for the donkeys over the Ducks…. even though I like to/the Quacks!!! 🙄 😀

  9. HiFlyer September 3, 2009 9:53 am

    top ten?

    Good morninig all

    IS IT FRIDAY YET!!!!

  10. bb September 3, 2009 9:56 am

What was the exact reason why the football game was moved to Friday? Traffic is already bad on Saturday game days one can already imagine how traffic will be on Friday….anyhow..i thought one reason was to accommodate the UCA traveling party so they can return back to Arkansas at a decent time.

Then I hear hear the UCA football coach on BC saying how on Saturday his team will be able to see some of the sights, sounds, and culture of Hawaii. In other words did we accommodate them just so they could have a “tourist” day? Plus with the Labor Day holiday on Monday what was the point of moving the game?

  11. cheepono September 3, 2009 9:57 am

oh and sometimes scuffles lead to certain players mysteriously redshirting…

  12. madeinhawaii September 3, 2009 9:58 am

    Brew…

I agree. I have much respect for the Ducks… BSU, not so much..BUT they are the WAC brethren…soo… GO DONKS! Quack quack! BUT, this is the tape that UH will need to prep for Boise. I suspect that the Ducks will expose any weaknesses they have.

  13. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 10:00 am

    Big weekend!

    Wahine V-ball! Go Wahine!!! 😆

    Warrior Football! Go WARRIORS!!! 😆

    Today is Ferd’s b-day! 😀

    Sat. is “somebody” else’s b – d a y . . . I don’t want to tell you who…but it’s kind of a s t r e t c h, and he will likely be out marketing w/ green bottles at each hole. 😀

AND THEN…. there’s a special couple w/ a birthday on Monday! That’s why it’s a national holiday. Can you guess? One is a new grandma. The other is… sort of tricky! 😆

Oh yeah…. my bruddah’s b-day this weekend too… but doesn’t count… not here on the Warrior Beat!!! 😀

  14. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 10:03 am

Hey! Sure got plenty of HILTON ads on the website! You think there was some special tie w/ them, or someone important that we know…. 🙄 😀 😆

  15. madeinhawaii September 3, 2009 10:04 am

    Yep… busy busy weekend..
And it starts today with some non UH games…
Colt is on the line with the Washington Redskins
Boise plays a BCS team and how they do will reflect on how people view the WAC this season

  16. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 10:05 am

Sheeesssshhh…. – there’s almost as many Hilton ads as there are posts on the Warrior Beat website! 😆

  17. madeinhawaii September 3, 2009 10:06 am

Brew… you got me all extamacited… I thought maybe she put out another tape.

But an ‘Aloha Hilton Stadium’ doesn’t sound all that bad, eh?

  18. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 10:07 am

And don’t forget… in a few more hours…. the raiders will be losing (again) … even though it’s still preseason! 😈

    Wea’s Ralph!?! 😐

  19. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 10:09 am

The ad says “7th night free” w/ luau package. At first I thought it read 7 luaus per night – free!….. 😯 😀 🙄

  20. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 10:14 am

Re: Aaron Brown – Will the D- be focusing on stopping the run? That’s probably ok especially w/ the Bears’ QB shuffle/problems. I always worry about the safeties cheating too much and getting burned with the TE over the middle. UH has really had problems with this play recently. IMHO 😐

  21. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 10:16 am

Okay – 12 out of 20 (now 13/21) posts is waaaayyyy too much. I’ll stop! Sorry about that…. 🙄 😳

  22. LizKauai (We are FAMILY!) September 3, 2009 10:20 am

The Aloha Hilton… Has a ring to it….

  23. Buffoman September 3, 2009 10:25 am

Regarding Colt. I hope he has a spectacular outing as I believe that is the only thing that will keep him in DC. A spectacular showing by Chase and an average or weak one by Colt will probably spell his release. I hope his agent is making quiet inquiries in anticipation that things may not go well for his client.

I said it before that it may not necessarily be a bad thing if Colt got released and hooked up with a team that could better utilize his talent. I truly believe that in making him conform in his (Zorn’s) philosophy, Colt may not be able to see the game as he did a year before. Good or bad that probably does not help Colt in this “system”. If you go way back, Jim Plunket had a similar problem with teams until he landed in Oakland. Some systems just work better to the talents of a particular qb than others.

  24. Slugger September 3, 2009 10:26 am

    tommui,

I’m going to the WVB games, except for Sunday’s.

I’d sit Fonoti, too. Let him fully recover.

  25. Kekoa September 3, 2009 10:26 am

Brew ~ Ralph is prolly pokin’ sumbody in da maka right now and calling it one eye exam. Is there one nodda doctah in da house?

  26. Kekoa September 3, 2009 10:31 am

Mebbe it’s 7 Lau lau per night for Tsaiko’s…

  27. PowderPuff September 3, 2009 10:34 am

Between MIH and Brew, who needs a TV or any other form of entertainment? LOVE your posts. 🙂 Getting me all excited for today’s game. I’m going to be watching the game with alums from BOTH schools. It’ll be fun. My BSU co-worker asked me to wear blue and orange. Not happenin’.

  28. mctruck September 3, 2009 10:37 am

Listening to the host on ESPNU this morning, forgot his name but he sure had a lot of praise for BSU and Oregon. What stuckout was when he said that BSU and Oregon have the most progressive offenses in the nation.

  29. jojo ® September 3, 2009 10:39 am

Tomorrow is game day and it’s the calm before the storm. I am ready!!!

  30. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 10:40 am

Howdy mctruck! Yup – I’d agree w/ that assessment! Quack! 😀

  33. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 10:42 am

    Kekoa -….MMmmmmmm…. seven lau-laus….. 😀 Okay – that’s plenty. If it’s “hotel” kind… then no problem. If it’s Masa’s kind – no chance for me! 😆

  34. Kekoa September 3, 2009 10:44 am

Back from taking Diana in for a check-up dis morning. Was quick!…All systems are go!

Now scanning the sports schedule for some fb action to keep from stressing out over da UH opener. (Gotta burn some pots & pans today too!). bbl…

  35. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 10:44 am

    Thanks PP – that’s exactly what they think of me at work…. a joke! 😈 🙄 😀

  36. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 10:45 am

    ‘k – I know I’m missing out on 808Ike‘s kalbi. What else? 🙄

  37. Garret September 3, 2009 10:46 am

RGM apparently isn’t going to lose his punt return job as was planned…BC will use *two* punt returners, RGM and the guy who was the starter before he was injured.

B.C. is reportedly planning to use twin punt returners, hoping Ian Smart and Ryan Grice-Mullen can create some spark.

  38. d1島 September 3, 2009 10:47 am

I guess we have a pretty good barometer for this first game then: Fonoti sits, all is good; Fonoti plays, 😯 👿 🙁

  39. Garret September 3, 2009 10:48 am

I would think that Fonoti should sit out this game. He already missed so many practices due to injury *before* he got his knee injury…let everything heal and let his body recover for the big road trip.

  40. Kekoa September 3, 2009 10:48 am

Brew ~ I’m still hoping Colt gets outta town. Plays where he is truly appreciated, and badly needed. I would love to see him play for the 9ers of course, but any team that will show him more respect than the thin-skins will work.

  41. Garret September 3, 2009 10:49 am

It would be great if Enos could get a lot of touchbacks on kickoffs. That would be a big field position help and eliminate worries about the kick coverage. Even pinning the returner in the corner would be a big help for the coverage team.

  42. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 10:49 am

    Best case – lot’s of 3 and outs for the D!!! 😆

  43. ATsaiofRelief September 3, 2009 10:50 am

oh jeez….I hope we can finally have a decent kicking game….We need a Elam Jr.

  44. d1島 September 3, 2009 10:50 am

Maybe player scuffles are also emblematic of the restlessness on the WB of late.

  45. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 10:51 am

Actually, equally good case….. lots of kick-off for Enos! 😆

  46. d1島 September 3, 2009 10:53 am

Hope that Enos’ kick-off “workload” becomes a problem tomorrow night…

…. lots of KO’s by him would be nice!

  47. Garret September 3, 2009 10:53 am

For all those people who wish Colt to be released, remember that he won’t know anything about other team’s playbooks and won’t have any chance to play for another team in the preseason. That would mean that he’d basically be stuck on the bench all year and wouldn’t be prepared for the season. Then he’d have to start all over with a new system with limited reps as a #3 QB next preseason.

The other thing to consider is that Colt’s stats this preseason might not give him a lot of good options for teams that would pick him up. The NFL wants to know what a player can do for them right away (example: RGM gets cut right after getting hurt) and Colt himself talked about how his preseason play was an audition for other NFL teams.

  48. d1島 September 3, 2009 10:54 am

Gee βρεω808, “great” minds think once in a while! 😆

  49. Jun Tao September 3, 2009 10:54 am

New England should pick up Colt if things don’t go good. NE already released their 3rd round pick from last year which too me is pretty sad. Maybe a guy name Jake Ingram can put in a good work to the head coach….

  50. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 10:54 am

    Oh, now I get it…. 50 yr anniversary. 5 days. 5th day – $50 for that night. I suppose if you see it often enough (actually constantly…. 🙄 ), you eventually catch-on! 🙄 😀

  51. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 10:56 am

d1島 – my post was first! BTW – slap your head right now! Why? – because of what you’re thinking! 😈

  52. d1島 September 3, 2009 10:56 am

    Garret,

Good points. It’s just that when I hear rumors that the Bullpups’ QB from last year has a shot at starting for Denver this year….. 🙄

  53. Kekoa September 3, 2009 10:56 am

PowderPuff ~ WEAR YOUR UH HELMET! and yell the UH fight song everytime someone scores.

    Blue & Orange?…Is it Halloween already??…Blue & Orange?…Yeck!

  54. midori7 September 3, 2009 10:57 am

    Morning Tsaikos!

    Everyone ready for some football???

Hope traffic isn’t too bad tomorrow afternoon.

Looking forward to seeing how Enos does on kickoffs. Can’t wait to see Dunnachie (but hopefully he won’t be on the field too often).

Hey Brew! See you in Seattle, right?

  55. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 10:59 am

Garret mentioned this a couple of times – but CB#5 is in a tough position. ‘skins have held on too long. Not a good showing this season. No regular game season. Remember he was a 6 so not sure of any intense interest. Very tough! 🙁

  56. d1島 September 3, 2009 11:00 am

    😆

  57. Committed Road Warrior September 3, 2009 11:00 am

    bb #10:

I’m under the suspicion that their flight off the island doesn’t leave until 5pm or 6 (maybe 7pm) on Saturday, so they would have been laying low any way regardless of the day the game was held.

With the 7:05pm kickoff, they also would have been overnighting regardless. The extra $$$ they spend on tourist attractions et al. during that down time doesn’t hurt either.

They WILL get back to Arkansas at a decent time. UCA should be back to a normal practice schedule upon their return to Conway assuming they conduct their Monday practices as usual, notwithstanding the fact that Monday is a holiday.

  58. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 11:00 am

    See @ you too! 😆

  59. Garret September 3, 2009 11:01 am

    d1shima,

If Colt had a preseason stat line this year like he had last year, then he would have had a shot at the #2 QB spot. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen which hurt him with his status at Washington…but even more so, hurt him with how he is viewed around the league.

New England released their high draft pick from last season right after he threw a few preseason INTs. Colt probably threw more INTs than him this preseason…

  60. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 11:04 am

Pau! (or is it POW!!!) It’s a done deal. Play ball on Friday. Win. Go to “somebody’s” marketing b-day party….. Rest. Get ready to rumble & travel! 😀

UCA probably won’t spend too much kala in the 808…. Best thing is they have a great trip (despite losing) and tell their friends and family to come visit! 😀

  61. Garret September 3, 2009 11:05 am

    brew808,

I wish that Washington would have traded Colt last year when he had so much positive press due to his preseason showing. In a better system (with a better OL), he could have done well this offseason.

I think that Colt tried too hard to get the #2 QB spot, and was forcing things that led to INTs. Once things started to go wrong, that negative momentum was hard to stop. With all the criticism that Washington’s backup offense took here in how they helped Colt, it should be pointed out that Chase hasn’t had the same problems. Chase is just trying to impress NFL teams to get a roster spot (which was Colt’s situation last year) and Colt is trying (possibly a little too hard) to convince Zorn to go against his plan and make him the #2 QB.

  62. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 11:06 am

Hey – midori7 – the other night someone posted as just “midori”. Was that you – or did your dad mess up…. again! 😆

  63. Da Punchbowl Kid September 3, 2009 11:07 am

    Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂

YeeeHawwwww! Thanks for the tickets, Mr. Wonderful Blog Host! Sweety has to work until after six, so I’ll have to bring in my second-stringer for the T-Gate and game… (wait for it)… my brother! Be afraid, very afraid… 😆

    Thanks again Mr. Tsai!

  64. d1島 September 3, 2009 11:07 am

and tell their friends and family

OK, I going be “gracious host” and not comment on dat one!

    heheheh

  65. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 11:08 am

Let’s be objective here…. Chase has looked good. (Yeah – it’s preseason and he’s played against 3rd team D’s.) Anyone disagree? 🙄

  66. Garret September 3, 2009 11:09 am

    CRW,

Regarding your #57 post, I think that the direct flights from HNL to DFW probably are red-eye flights (I took a lot of those when I lived in Texas), so that would force UCA to stay an extra day in Hawaii and not leave after the game.

I’m guessing their players will mainly do stuff like go to the beach, so they won’t spend much except for food (which could be a lot for football players!) and souvenirs.

  67. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 11:10 am

    I was “thinking” – family/friends same ting! SLAP! I/you deserved that! 😈

  68. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 11:11 am

  69. d1島 September 3, 2009 11:14 am

    j/k there DPK!
Congratulations and look forward to seeing you! 🙂

  70. d1島 September 3, 2009 11:15 am

Hmmm….speaking of….time to start da fuud search.
Maybe pizza; gotta turn in my Pigskin Picks….

  71. Kekoa September 3, 2009 11:16 am

Garret ~ Sit on the bench and watch Chase? Sit at home and watch the other marginal QB’s around the league given opportunities to show their stuff?…I’d take my chances stepping in with another team.

Colt can do it. He’s not like the others. He IS a QB the others only wish they could be. I know of at least one NFL team that could use him as a back up right now, and prolly a few more who would jump at the chance to have him on their roster.

The other concern I have is for his health. With the beating he’s taking from poor o-line protection, how long will he last? He will be damaged goods if he stays with them any longer.

  72. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 11:17 am

I heard DPK only eats salads and greens – and THAT is not served at Tsaiko T-gates …. so I’ve been told….

    Oh… green-bottles! 😆

  73. d1島 September 3, 2009 11:17 am

  80. Garret September 3, 2009 11:21 am

    Kekoa,

I’m thinking that Colt will be kept as the 3rd QB with Washington and Chase will be released. I hope that Chase does well enough tonight so that another team will pick him up as their 3rd QB…otherwise, Washington could put him on their practice squad and then we’d have the same QB logjam next year.

I do *not* see any scenario where Colt would be on the bench behind Chase. If Chase is ahead of Colt then they will release Colt, but I doubt that will happen unless tonight game goes really poorly.

  81. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 11:21 am

  85. madeinhawaii September 3, 2009 11:25 am

It’s good to get new blood here at the stadium. It will go well with Aloha’s color of rust.

UCA will enjoy their experience, win or lose and be jacked to know what it could mean to be Div 1a in a few years. Hard to believe that our attendance is #59 in the nation.

I suspect it’s like all the wealth in the world. Was it something like, 10% of the people have 90% of it? Same goes with attendance at football games, too. I guess that make our Warriors – middle class.

  86. Garret September 3, 2009 11:25 am

    brew808,

By the way, my company got *really* good news today and it appears that I’m going to have to take regular trips to the Bay Area now. The first trip is *coincidentally* scheduled for a week that includes the UH-SJSU game. Hopefully we can have a couple of Tsaiko gatherings that week.

I think that the Spring trip might coincidentally occur when the basketball team plays SJSU…

    OMG…..ST, I love that pic….. 😉

  101. warriorfanny2 September 3, 2009 11:52 am

For the umteenth time–Colt is playing for the wrong owner, wrong coach and wrong system….said it from DAY ONE–nothing has changed….hopefully he changes his agent before his confidence is buried on boothill.

  102. SteveM September 3, 2009 11:54 am

    Good noon everyone!

ST — great grandpa pic! Have that one made into a poster for the living room wall. Actually, one of the best I’ve seen of you…and that’s saying a lot… 😆 Should change your blog photo…

  105. Da Punchbowl Kid September 3, 2009 12:03 pm

Nice looking baby, Mr. Tsai. You’ve never looked better, yourself! 😉

haha lots of public utilities commission

  109. warriorfanny2 September 3, 2009 12:12 pm

Central Arkansas will run to the strong side (R/L) and if successful warrior-D will see a double TE set much like WISC……Haku will be key to our 2.0 DT rotation, but our quickness at LBs will have to be prominent to make up for a vulnerable perimeter stacked with inexperienced tweeners at DE…..Pilares and Sallas will light it up, they both had great camps w outstanding summer conditioning programs….here’s hoping Gordie Shaw makes a difference on his run block schemes, in particular off-tackle and perimeter runs which require our OLM to hit on-the-run. We were terrible in scheme and execution in 2008 without JJ’s tweekin-genuis….best wishes to Liko to cast his own giant shadow….not surprised with improvement with Enos–most kickers from the mainland initially struggle at sea level in Hawaii where the air is heavier….just be consistent and hit everything in the redzone….Go warriors!

  110. Pu C. Galore September 3, 2009 12:17 pm

    nice assessment wf2.

  111. Pu C. Galore September 3, 2009 12:21 pm

zorn is killing colt. zorn is looking out for zorn. if, and a big if zorn is around to see the end of jason campbells current contract, and for some reason, campbell decides to move on, the redskins will be in a tough spot since collins will likely be retired, and they will have missed this chance to groom a successor.

i understand keeping campbell as #1 since he is getting paid a lot and is not really gonna bring back much as trade bait with his mediocre performances.

  112. Pu C. Galore September 3, 2009 12:22 pm

i’m guessing mr. know-it-all will be chiming in soon.

  113. warriorfanny2 September 3, 2009 12:22 pm

WE ARE FAMILY! YEAH!! GO COLT, GO BOWS, GO WARRIORS!!!

  115. Not an Expert September 3, 2009 12:23 pm

    My take on Colt’s situation.

If the skins brass believe Chase has a better future with them than Colt, they will try to get something in return on a trade involving Colt. The skins might want him to have a good game to increase the trade value.

However if there are doubts about the difference with Chase and Colt, I believe Colt will stay on as the number 3 and Chase will be put on the practice squad. They don’t have anything to lose by having Chase on the practice squad unless they feel he has a fantastic future with them.

I don’t know what goes on in the pro’s but I feel that Meidt and Zorn are to technical on Colt. Meidt or whatever his name stated that Colt had not taken the wrong dropback (steps) on a certain play that created the problem. Being so technical has to play on someone’s mind. Did the coaches ever think that a 6’6″ quarterback dropback is different in time and length than a shorter qb. They don’t know how to get the best out of their players. Mind f… with them too much. Washington will be having another losing season and Zorn is out.

  116. letsgowarriors September 3, 2009 12:29 pm

will mack even go beyond the 3 DT this game? i hope so. we need to figure out if masch and haku can perform.

Michelle divorced her parents in Europe….they are reduced to kodac gallery parents and are mostly seen and not heard from lately…..Wie has matured and her all around game is improving. She will be ok and has full support from her peers and the lpga.

  121. labrat September 3, 2009 12:41 pm

The best players will play. This is not PE football.

  122. warriorfanny2 September 3, 2009 12:42 pm

lgw #116, im not sure about masch at this point–he needs time in the system to get the brutish DT feel….im just hopin haku is cut loose laterally on loops and stunts–he has the feet and dimensional talent.

  123. Not an Expert September 3, 2009 12:43 pm

Who is this Mr. know it all or “puke”?

    Inquiring minds want to know.

Get the balls and direct it to that person and explain your views on him or her with “bad” taste.

  124. Garret September 3, 2009 12:44 pm

According to this study, football players spend more time working on athletic activities, more than athletes in any other college sport.

Football players in major college programs estimated they spent 44.8 hours per week on athletic activities. That was nearly five hours per week more than any other sport, and 10 hours per week more than a majority of sports in the survey.

In the NCAA survey, players in the top division reported spending five hours more per week on football than on academics. And 70% of respondents in Division I said they considered themselves more an athlete than a student.

Why football sticks out isn’t fully known, but some elements are clear: time-consuming strength training, film work and the pressure to win that comes with packed stadiums, big television contracts and enormous school pride.

  125. Garret September 3, 2009 12:45 pm

Oklahoma State and Georgia will not be doing the pregame handshake before their season opener.

The American Football Coaches Association and the NCAA encouraged teams to shake hands on the field before Saturday’s season-opening games to promote sportsmanship, but Georgia and Oklahoma State won’t take part.

Oklahoma State has decided against the pregame handshakes, associate athletic director Kevin Klintworth said Wednesday evening.

  127. warriorfanny2 September 3, 2009 1:08 pm

Look, the warrior O-game plan against the boyz from conway for game #1 will be simple as apple pie….run n shoot. The play book will be limited but subtle schemes will differ. We should not be surprised if Ron or MAC limits less than a couple pages from the master blue print….sound coaching–it gives WAZZU less to prep from 2009 film.
Look for the basic stuff and no more if we move the ball.
Sallas and Kealoha should be getting most of Greg’s attention and if our running game draws secondary attention, Ron Lee may request a dethcom 10-pass over the deeeeep middle.
Cant say the same for warrior D, where MAC maybe dealing with a one-dimensional Bear O. He has a perfect opportunity to wreck havoc with his quick LBs and drawn-in secondary if the bears dont mount a threat with their wideouts and depend on their TEs to move the sticks.

Either way, expect some ying on O and some yang on D.
    That’s the prescribed balance….Go warriors!

  128. A-House September 3, 2009 1:09 pm

NCAA: pregame handshake is “high schoolish”. If you want sportsman ship, take a hard look within, drop all the bull on which conference you represent and protect their interests, etc. Who is going to fire you? Be a leader!

for goodness sake, why don’t the NCAA conentrate their efforts on bigger and better things such as completing reviews on all the paperwork for JC and highschool students who are waiting for clearance to play football; completing the investigation on Reggie Bush or are they wating for “father-time” so people will forget and USC will not be punished and maybe even the firing of Pete Carroll; crack down on all the infractions committed by the BCS schools in many sports; etc.

AND, don’t make new rules and make it retroactive some 5-6 years, punish school(s) for committing an infraction when the rule did not exist at the time a student athlete was recruited, and take away championships won.

I am still fuming over the severe lack of leadership/judgment by Herman Frazier to accept the NCAA mandate on volleyball. Talk about no balls!!!

  129. G (China) September 3, 2009 1:09 pm

It seems like there are those who think HI’s chance of being successful this year has significantly diminished because of the injuries of late. Is our depth so poor that it can’t keep up with the likes of our opponents on our schedule? Sorry but I don’t see any Florida’s or other extremely formidable team. They are all beatable as we are.

On defense, I can see that we don’t have game experience as an issue but certainly the ones we play on the field are not green. Everyone I can think of outside of Liko Satele has had starting or had played significant minutes/experience at either JC or at UH. As a unit, they can play solid D given how they had shut down the offense throughout camp. They are coached up and they seemed to have bonded together. If HI’s offense can start off strong the D will catch up during the season. I think this team is hungry and has a chip on its shoulder wanting to prove naysayers wrong. The focus seems to be pretty solid. Here’s to a start of a successful 2009 campaign!

    WAC Champs!
    One game at a time!

  132. letsgowarriors September 3, 2009 1:14 pm

i hope coach ron lee implemented some slotback traps/runs/shovels for pilares and blount. but i dont mind waiting a few weeks before its busted out.

  133. warriorfanny2 September 3, 2009 1:27 pm

Im not a fan of MACs O philosophy–which is typically conservative for a coach with a strong D background.
Kinda simular to Dick Tomey in his early years.
However, it is a debilitating philosophy when taken with the O he employs–the 4-receiver spread, rns.
It showed last year when MAC chose to sit on the ball with a lead. Against SJSU it backfired!
MAC recently made a comment that he doesnt like to run up the game against opponents and made a vague reference to WSU last year. What?

C’mon, JJ didnt let-up until the otherside threw in the towel.
Mac isnt being paid big bucks to be a nice guy..and u all have heard about where nice guyz end up on the totem pole–especially in the dog-eat-dawg world of college football–do ya think Charlie Weis believes in charity? Chris Petersen?

Cut loose warriors–come out swinging with massive firepower–do not be biblical and fight with one stone.
    Dont turn your back.
    Wipe out the flock.
    Take no prisoners!

Nothing will turn off ur fans more than paying to witness a listless, lethargic, conservative, event on a FRIDAY nite–MAC–turn on your high-lites tomorrow nite….and….
    Light up NoAloha!

Too bad video blocked where I stay 🙁

  142. J-Dog September 3, 2009 1:47 pm

one thing I miss about coach Jones was that he definitely was not conservative. Gunslinging it until the game was definitely out of hand with at 3+ TD lead.

If greeting cards were sent to other teams after a blowout win by UH, coach mack would probably send an “I’m sorry” card. Coach Jones would send a “I’m sorry we kicked your butt” card. In a nice way of course.

  143. d1島 September 3, 2009 1:48 pm

    Jags start #1 D.

    Is Del Rio feeling pressure?

  144. labrat September 3, 2009 1:49 pm

CA comes in with 3 all-americans on their team. Should be a good test for some of our players. I think they also sent 2 players to the NFL combine. They seem to recruit well and one of their fastest players is a freshman 6’2″ db.

  145. Committed Road Warrior September 3, 2009 1:49 pm

Mad Dog #138: Thanks for the link! Better than nothing, I suppose.

  146. d1島 September 3, 2009 1:50 pm

    J-Dog,

The Former Coach used to say his feeling was that the other guys had all week to prepare for what it is we’d be doing; no secrets. If they couldn’t stop it, oh well…

  147. Mad Dog September 3, 2009 1:56 pm

It’s not the best picture. I can see “Panasonic” on the bottom of the screen.

  148. addahknowjoe September 3, 2009 1:56 pm

    Howzit everybody!

I am soooo ‘reddy for some Hawaii football!

I don’t care about anyones analysis. I’ll just let the Manoa boys’ speak for themselves!

Jones-Drew has leg contusion, doubtful return.

    Howzit Tsaiko Nation!!

Tomorrow’s the big day! Can’t wait! Except that I’ll be at work until 9pm, so I can’t even listen to the game on the radio until then. At least I’ll get most of the 2nd half.

Capitol -ist/WassupDoc — Thank you so much for following up on my inquiry about K5’s re-broadcast plans! I’ll definitely be watching Sat. afternoon, hopefully to re-celebrate the victory! And I’m hoping the win will bring some advertisers out of hiding to sponsor re-broadcasts of ALL the K5 games this season.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  152. Mad Dog September 3, 2009 2:02 pm

    Chase is in at QB

  153. d1島 September 3, 2009 2:02 pm

    Sounds like a plan!

  154. Committed Road Warrior September 3, 2009 2:03 pm

    Chase Daniel in.

Going to the driving range for a little while. Maybe Colt will be inserted some where in the 3rd Q.

  155. d1島 September 3, 2009 2:03 pm

    end 1Q

  156. d1島 September 3, 2009 2:05 pm

Wow, 50-50 on poll for who will have the worst offense: Chiefs or Bucs…and the Bucs don’t even have an OC! Brandstater? 🙄

  157. d1島 September 3, 2009 2:06 pm

3 and out. Daniel completes a 5 yarder

  158. d1島 September 3, 2009 2:11 pm

Garrard still playing; driving the Jags.

Wonder if Del Rio still plays #1 D?

  159. d1島 September 3, 2009 2:15 pm

Boy, even Garrard is pressing…took a coverage sack.

Maybe Colt better not play, looks like the Jags are trying to impress somebody. Could get ugly for whoever is playing QB against them.

  160. royvic September 3, 2009 2:18 pm

    #142

I agree. When I read your statement about the greeting card analogy the first thing that popped in my mind is that I think of Coach Jone as a the type of character (Harry Callahan) in the Clint Eastwood movie that said “go ahead make my day.” And then I think of Coach Mack as a mirror image of Richard Simmons. (maybe it’s just me, probably is…but all that lluvy, duuvy talk is killing me. I think it’s better suited if he was mean and the players would follow suit).

  161. Mad Dog September 3, 2009 2:18 pm

Garrard and his WRs didn’t seem to recognize when the Skins were going to blitz

  162. d1島 September 3, 2009 2:19 pm

    Daniel still QB

  163. Mad Dog September 3, 2009 2:20 pm

Chase sacked on first down. Then loss of 2 on second down. Jags are penetrating. Skins can’t block

  164. diesel September 3, 2009 2:20 pm

man, the skins oline look terrible.

  165. d1島 September 3, 2009 2:21 pm

  166. Mad Dog September 3, 2009 2:21 pm

Lunch time pau. Back to the grinder. I hope to sneak a peak when Colt comes in.

  167. d1島 September 3, 2009 2:23 pm

    Garrard TD pass.

    Hide your helmet, Colt.

  168. d1島 September 3, 2009 2:24 pm

Jags convert 2 pt attempt! 21-0.

  169. warriorfanny2 September 3, 2009 2:25 pm

    #160, you want lovey-dovey, sugar-coated stuff:
last year MAC said that his OL was the best unit on his O and perhaps on his team.
This year, Ron Lee says that the OL maybe the best unit on the O-side…..this comes after he said his 2009 wideouts are the best in his 10 years at UH….we should be
    OK, right?

  170. labrat September 3, 2009 2:26 pm

    Oweee Chase.

  171. labrat September 3, 2009 2:28 pm

    Chase running for his life.

  172. d1島 September 3, 2009 2:30 pm

per Vic Ketcham, posting from the pressbox.

Daniel is too small. It’s obvious. He can’t get the ball over the line.

  173. d1島 September 3, 2009 2:32 pm

Del Rio calls off the dogs. Garrard out.

  174. letsgowarriors September 3, 2009 2:33 pm

  177. FloridaTed September 3, 2009 2:59 pm

    Hi, gang,

One more day and all the speculations will have a little more gravitas. I’m still sticking to my prognosis of 10 + wins, call me crazy, but if they play up to their cababilities and for each other, it’s there for the taking.

Colt will stay at Nr.3. Just like last years hype wasn’t totally warranted, neither is this year hand wringing.

  178. Ricky from Virginia September 3, 2009 3:00 pm

  185. FloridaTed September 3, 2009 3:45 pm

Colt is marching the team down field, on the 11 y line , 6/8, two pass interference calls in Colts favor, Run, TD Skins.

  186. AWP September 3, 2009 3:46 pm

CB led Skins on 85 yd drive for TD!

  187. chopsueyboy September 3, 2009 3:49 pm

Colt led Redskins to 1 fg & 1 td

  188. chawan_cut September 3, 2009 3:49 pm

colt, 7-9, 65 yards on that drive. one incomplete was on a defensive pass interference.
TD was a dive from the 1 by the RB.

  189. bb September 3, 2009 3:51 pm

i agree with the assessment that the two guys that are announcing this game are clowns. it sounds like that there is a flask of vodka in the booth

those can’t be the regular season play by play guys…..

  194. Willie September 3, 2009 4:04 pm

Next in store for WAC football fans, here is Oregon vs Boise State.

    http://channelsurfing.net/watch-espn.html

I always cheer against Boise State when they play a WAC team, but support them when they play a non-WAC team, especially a BCS team.

  197. d1島 September 3, 2009 4:07 pm

Say this much for the Donk Fans; at least they can coordinate the shirt colors in the stands well.

I wonder how well the “Ainokea…I do wat I like” shirts sell over there? 🙄

  198. Dirty Commish September 3, 2009 4:08 pm

Wow Boise State is able to get their fans to color coordinate in the stands per section and UH has a hard time getting a white out or green out or black out.

Say what you want, the Broncos have their stuff together on and off the field.

  199. Mad Dog September 3, 2009 4:08 pm

What’s wrong with the color on the screen? Oregon’s uniform looks, well, plain.

    Willie,

Colt says it’s more of a hammy than a knee problem.

  204. d1島 September 3, 2009 4:10 pm

    How come Oregon playing alone?

No can see any other team on the field!

  205. Toeknee Da Thaigah September 3, 2009 4:11 pm

    oWWWW not da knee!

What’s wrong with the color on the screen? Oregon’s uniform looks, well, plain.

I think they were smart enough to realize that if they went with one of their uglier uniforms the whole stadium would combust in a rainbow colored fire of hideousness.

  208. Toeknee Da Thaigah September 3, 2009 4:13 pm

Boise might have blue turf, but cannot beat the black turf of Cooke Field.

Oh wait, they got rid of that too….dang it!!

  209. d1島 September 3, 2009 4:15 pm

Kellen Moore is picking it up where he left off…

  210. Dirty Commish September 3, 2009 4:15 pm

Whoa an actual Asian guy on the Boise State sidelines… the only one in all of Idaho.

  211. Toeknee Da Thaigah September 3, 2009 4:15 pm

If you Pilipino, you would love playing as Oregon in NCAA Football ’10 on PS3 or XBox 360. Can change the colors of the helmet, top, pants, shoes. I like the white helmet, black top, yellow pants, and white shoes for Oregon. yeahhhhh.

  212. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 4:17 pm

I’m back! Did anyone miss me? 😀

Oh – I think I hurt somebody’s feelings…. FYI – the first-aid station is right next to the entrance door.

Normally, I refuse to be dragged into a meaningless debate. Life is too short to worry about those things. And there are far too many good people here and fun to be had by all to be spoiled by the very, very few miscreants.

I’m still puzzled with the claim that my posts were somehow hindering another person’s ability to contribute with their posts? Bizzare….

I think there are a very few simple rules (if any) and blog etiquette needed to participate:

_ Have some respect, courtesy, and patience with your fellow bloggers.

    _ Participation is strictly voluntary!

_ SKIP is a powerful tool. Learn how to use if effectively.

That’s it! Pretty simple. I suppose there’s one more suggestion to all….

You’re ALWAYS welcome to leave through that same door (crevice?) you entered from. You can even collect a full refund and your full deposit on the way out!

BTW – no need to reply since I do know how to use the SKIP tool. 😯 😆 🙄

  213. Toeknee Da Thaigah September 3, 2009 4:17 pm

  219. Dirty Commish September 3, 2009 4:22 pm

Ok, if the NFL can eventually make the Cowboys raise the gigantic Jerrytron higher, how come the NCAA can’t make Boise replace that FUGLY blue field???

  220. wafan September 3, 2009 4:23 pm

Heck, it is BSu. So hard to cheer for them and not feel exhuberence with them moving the ball backward.

  221. Willie September 3, 2009 4:24 pm

Good news d1 that its the hammie & not da knee.

Looks like going down to the wire with Colt & Daniels. Daniels finishes 8/16 for 85 yards, 1 TD, no int, 1 sack, 1 fumble, 3 rushes for 17 yards.

What’s the deadline for the cut to 53 and when is this announced?

  222. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 4:27 pm

They’re gonna leave it this season but NFL rep admitted that having an 85 foot ceiling minimum was a mistake, so you can be sure they’ll revise it for next season.

    Always out to get us.

  227. warriorfanny2 September 3, 2009 4:39 pm

    CRW . . .

Post-Wazzu game celebration will be at the Snoqualmie Casino, per earlier d1 post.

The buffet will be open until 11pm so there will be lots of time to eat, celebrate, eat, visit and eat. Food is pretty good at about $25 with tax.

Of course, gaming is available (table and slots) if you want to try your luck. Or, like me, your lack, thereof.

Do you know where you will be staying?

Please contact me via e-mail if you have other questions/concerns. I think you have my address from last year. If not, add at comcastdot net after my name.

BSU’s kicker, after a Kelly-like year last year, is getting of to a bad start this year, kind of like Kelly in ’08. 0 for 2 so far.
    Meanwhile, Oregon’s O so far:
3 possessions, 3 punts, no first downs! Is it BSU’s D? The blue field?
    Strange game so far.

  234. chawan_cut September 3, 2009 4:57 pm

#232 – you are kidding, right? You think Oregon doesn’t know to expect the unexpected.

Boise plays at a high IQ, and at a quick tempo.

    A M A Z I N G.

  244. letsgowarriors September 3, 2009 5:08 pm

    OL opening some huge holes.

  246. warriorfanny2 September 3, 2009 5:12 pm

Oregon’s punter was the #1 punter out of HS, but if his snap to boot time lags, he can be blocked….distance and hangtime matter, yes, but snap to boot-time is vital. He was partially blocked on one of his boots.

  247. chawan_cut September 3, 2009 5:12 pm

wow, oregon doesn’t have a first down yet.

  248. addahknowjoe September 3, 2009 5:15 pm

Thanks for the confirmation! Snoqualmie after the game sounds fine with me. Will probably go there and enjoy the fuud…..and will likely opt out of the gaming for the most part. My flight back to PHX leaves mid-morning Sunday.

I’m staying at the airport Hilton. I guess renting a car would be a prudent thing for me since we’ll all (likely) be heading out to Snoqualmie after the game.

  255. warriorfanny2 September 3, 2009 5:20 pm

  262. Committed Road Warrior September 3, 2009 5:27 pm

  263. d1島 September 3, 2009 5:28 pm

BS-You moving into “finish” mode…Ducks better do sumtin’ quick!

  264. Committed Road Warrior September 3, 2009 5:29 pm

  266. Seattlezz September 3, 2009 5:31 pm

There’s been almost NO mention of the upcoming UH-WSU game in the media out here in Seattle. A news article mentioned that tickets weren’t exactly selling like hotcakes, but there’s something like 50,000 (or was it 15,000?) former Hawaii residents living in the Seattle area. Just think what could happen if we could call all of our friends and relatives living here to come out to the game and cheer for the Warriors…

  267. expat September 3, 2009 5:34 pm

That has got to be some kind of record for first half ineptitude for Oregon.

  268. lava September 3, 2009 5:38 pm

With 5 3-and-outs out of 5 drives, the Ducks’ ineptitude on offense makes me think I’m watching 11 Michelle Wies. I think there are a few more Wies on defense too.

  269. chawan_cut September 3, 2009 5:41 pm

lou holtz needs to enunciate. has he always sounded that bad?

  270. XxFaithxX September 3, 2009 5:44 pm

  271. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 5:52 pm

  272. XxFaithxX September 3, 2009 5:52 pm

Ok, so while watching the Ore-BS game refresh every so often, going through the game thread of the Redskins and reading some of the comments have lead me to this conclusion about Colt in Washington.

    1) The more people praise him, the more some people want to bad mouth him.

    2) He will not get a real shot at the 1st or 2nd string QB position unless an injury happens.

    3) Zorn is playing mind games and that is hampering Colt in show casing his playmaking ability.

Summary: Colt, get the hell out of there.

    my goodness. oregon oregon oregon……
    good word by the announcers.
    impotent offense.

  293. XxFaithxX September 3, 2009 7:02 pm

    Per my calculations,

From the start of the game to the Fumble by boise at the 7:43 mark in the 4th Qtr, Boise had 11 drives and 10 of them started with Boise having two (2) running plays to start them.

    So to start drives:

2 running plays in a row to start 10 drives vs. 1 otherwise with a run and then a pass.

All 11 had Boise using a running play to start.

  294. d1島 September 3, 2009 7:03 pm

SJSU gathering pre game is at the Hukilau

With a strong running game by CA I look for UH’s base defensive sets to be augmented by moving LB’s and/or safeties up into the box and forcing the pass.

CA will run the plays that work until UH stops them. Putting more players into the box is a def strategy that forces a running team to go to their 2nd and 3rd best options. That makes them play into UH’s strengths!!

Boise st.’s 12th drive and then once again open up with to running plays in a row. Granted it is the 4th and they want to run out the clock and so it might not be much of a shock.

hello bpew what were the wvb scores?

  301. Garret September 3, 2009 7:13 pm

    Pomai,

My prediction: UH 31, UCA 12

  302. Garret September 3, 2009 7:14 pm

Feature on UH in the Maui News.

”That was a tough situation,” Alexander said about playing the Gators. ”I would love to go back this year and play them with this team, see how we stack up against them again. But everyone’s excited to get out there on that Friday against Central Arkansas.”

”We’ve got to come in there and put up some points and shut them down right away,” said Warriors center John Estes. ”We don’t want to be in a dogfight the whole game. We’re just looking forward to playing Central Arkansas. We know they’re from the South. We know they’ve got a lot of speed. We’ve just got to execute.”

  303. Garret September 3, 2009 7:15 pm

Central Arkansas is 0-4 against Football Bowl Subdivision teams, with losses to Arkansas State in 1996 and 1997, to Louisiana Tech in 2007 and to Tulsa last year.

  304. Garret September 3, 2009 7:16 pm

Central Arkansas had so problems in their bus ride to the airport. Starting at 4am yesterday must have been rough, then getting stopped by Texas police looking for illegal aliens really dragged things on.

The day began for the UCA football team about 4 a.m. as the Bears bussed to Dallas, where they took an eight-hour commercial flight to the islands. They immediately went to about a 1 1/2-hour practice session at Aloha Stadium.

On the way to Dallas, two of the three busses transporting the UCA team were stopped by the Texas Highway Patrol near Mount Pleasant.

“I was in the lead bus and we went about 10 miles to a rest stop and waited,” Conque said. “They (law enforcement officials) took the other two busses back to Mount Pleasant and inspected them. I really don’t know why. I’ve heard they’ve had some problems with illegal immigrants being transported through Texas in charter busses.

  305. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 7:17 pm

    25-21 Cal, the UT-20, 16, 13….. crash AND burn! 😯

  306. Garret September 3, 2009 7:18 pm

I guess UH is used to La Tech’s coach giving other teams advice on how to prepare for UH…but Coach Tomey also? The reporter couldn’t even spell his name correctly.

Conque had consulted with coaches who had had experience with teams in Hawaii including former University of Hawaii coach Dick Thomey, Cincinnati coach Brian Kelly and Louisiana Tech coach Derek Dooley.

“All of them told me to work the team out as soon as possible when we arrive,” Conque said. “That’s why we went immediately to practice. It was a real long flight but the players told me they felt better after the workout and a shower.”

  310. Garret September 3, 2009 7:18 pm

Good news in the Palm Beach Post about Bess and the game today.

Quarterback Chad Pennington returns to his comfort zone.

With all the talk about the emergence of rookie Brian Hartline or the hopes for a breakout run by Ted Ginn Jr., Pennington offered a glimpse where he’s going to turn when the chips are down: WRs Greg Camarillo and Davone Bess.

Following a QB hurry on the opening snap, Pennington hit Camarillo for a 17-yard gain along the sideline. Facing a 3rd-and-8 on the team’s second drive, Pennington tossed a perfect strike to Bess for a 14-yard gain.

Five of Pennington’s first eight passes were to Camarillo or Bess. He didn’t look toward Ginn or Hartline once.

  311. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 7:20 pm

Oh Ralphie…. How did the radiators do tonight? 🙄

  312. Garret September 3, 2009 7:20 pm

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel has a similar conclusion from the game. It sounds like Bess earned either the starting WR spot or the starting slot receiver spot…if both Hartline and Camarillo had beaten him out then he wouldn’t have played at all.

Veteran receivers Davone Bess and Greg Camarillo leapfrogged rookie Brian Hartline as the starter and collectively produced 57 yards on seven receptions.

  313. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 3, 2009 7:21 pm

WOW that tailback from Oregon…..pathetic loooooossssseeeer.

  317. Ralph September 3, 2009 7:25 pm

it will be interesting to see how Oregon coaches handle Blount, it’s not his first episode with bad attitude-he already has a suspension on his resume.

  318. Garret September 3, 2009 7:25 pm

UH fans have a few more options to see tomorrow’s game. I hope that UH gets some revenue from this.

Consolidated Theatres Ko’olau Stadium 10 will again show University of Hawaii football games in its stadium-style, air-conditioned seating with a 30-foot screen.

Tickets are $12 per person and are available at the Ko’olau Stadium 10 box office or can be purchased in advance by visiting http://www.consolidatedtheatres.com.

This offer also will be available at Kaahumanu Theatre in the Queen Kaahumanu Shopping Center on Maui.

The theaters feature a 25-foot screen and cost will be $10 per person.

  319. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 7:25 pm

….it’ll end up as another black mark against the non-BCS conference….(and lame officials) 😐

  320. XxFaithxX September 3, 2009 7:26 pm

From the Boise board, Hout starting the incident by taunting, turned around and then got sucker’ed by Blount. Also, rumors that blount hit a popo in the tunnels. /shrug.

Oregon may have just recruited the false “Thug” image from UH instead of just some local boys.

UH’s DUSTIN Blount does seem like a good guy.

However, that f*ggot on Oregon is a good example of the TYPICAL boarish attitude of “we’re big time and can’t handle losing to a WAC team”…

  322. Ralph September 3, 2009 7:27 pm

Bpew haven’t seen the score yet, just got home a while ago and started watching the last 7 minutes of the bsu game.

  323. Garret September 3, 2009 7:27 pm

Nice that the Central Arkansas players got to visit the Arizona Memorial today.

“Most of the men who died here were the same age or just a little younger than these players,” Conque said. “That’s why it was non-negotiable that when we scheduled the football game here, we were going to Pearl Harbor. I wanted these players to see and experience something they just can’t get from reading a book.”

  324. labrat September 3, 2009 7:28 pm

It will be interesting to see how Peterson handles Hout. Byron showed poor sportsmanship going after Blount after the game.

  325. Garret September 3, 2009 7:29 pm

This article mentions that tomorrow’s game will be the biggest crowd UCA ever played in front of.

“We have to guesstimate a little bit,” said Conque about the run-and-shoot team. “But we know what they put on the field at the end of last season is the prototype with what they’re trying to develop for this year’s team. Their crowd really gets into games, I’ve heard. Their crowd will get after you and their team gets after you, too.”

The crowd is expected to be between 30,000 and 40,000, which would be the largest ever to watch a UCA athletic contest. About 200 UCA supporters, including parents of players, made the trip

  326. Garret September 3, 2009 7:31 pm

UCA searched around for an affordable buffet place in Waikiki.

It’s more efficient and less expensive for the UCA players to have buffet meals, but there are not many relatively inexpensive ones in most places.

One of Jackson’s brother-in-laws visited Hawaii recently.

“He ate an amazing buffet at a reasonable price and he told me about it,” Jackson said.

The coach connected with Andy at the restaurant and made arrangements for it to stay open later to accommodate the Bears after their practice session Wednesday evening.

“I sent him a UCA hat and shirt and he was said he was going to wear it when we showed up,” Jackson said. “I figured that would probably get our players fired up.”

  327. labrat September 3, 2009 7:32 pm

Holy crap they bringing 200 with them.

  328. XxFaithxX September 3, 2009 7:32 pm

Peterson will probably just suspend him for a max of 2 games, if a full game at all.

Boise has a rep. of NOT punishing their players harshly. What was that safety that was involved in that drunken car accident a handful years back, but still played that year IIRC?

  329. chawan_cut September 3, 2009 7:35 pm

yes, that boise guy got it as he deserved. right in front of the coach. not smart.
i thought i was watching ufc. he dropped like a dead fly.
blount will be in big trouble. not bad enough he played junk, but to go nuts like that is worse. maybe he should try out for the mma.
good that boise will get a black eye for that. we don’t need that negative press like that stupid fresno blogger brought us. espn caught boise’s fans taunting too (but i wouldn’t blame them as blount was a thug).

  330. Kazz (13 more for Coach Shoji) September 3, 2009 7:40 pm

    Chawan,

    I dunno man… Hout shouldn’t have taunted, but didn’t deserve a semi-cheapshot.

Oregon’s Blount showed his supposed “improved maturity” tonight under duress and voila… PURE GARBAGE.

  331. bb September 3, 2009 7:40 pm

    Watching Blount’s crack was sick.

Watching it over and over in HD and to see his face connect with Hout’s cheek and jaw was even better. For a brief moment you can see his eyes roll back and it was “lights Hout” for that clown. The look on Coach Petersen’s face is classic.

I wonder how many games Blount will be out. It wouldnt surprise me that he’s done for the year.

  332. XxFaithxX September 3, 2009 7:42 pm

    #9 Blount – 8 carries, long-run=10, total yds gained = 5, ave=-0.6

  338. d1島 September 3, 2009 7:51 pm

IMO Blount couldn’t back up the check that his mouth wrote and compounded it by losing it when Hout called him on it.

Don’t know anything about Hout’s background but according to the announcers Blount was already back from a suspension for less-than-model behavior.

Earlier in the broadcast the ESPN guys were talking about Blount’s “whoop-a$$” quote before the game. In retrospect the OU coach shoulda toned that down on the spot. Maybe it’s a learning experience for the rookie coach, too.

  339. chawan_cut September 3, 2009 7:54 pm

    kazz,
hout knew he was going after an explosive bomb ready to go off. blount was angry all night long.
on SH someone made a good point that if it was in Hawaii, there would’ve been a big brawl. both the oregon and boise players were cool headed enough to make it an isolated incident.

  340. d1島 September 3, 2009 7:55 pm

    From ESPN game recap

But the lasting image from this highly anticipated kickoff to the 2009 college football season will be Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount punching Boise State’s Byron Hout after the final whistle and then needing to be restrained from fans by police on the field.

  341. βρεω808 September 3, 2009 7:57 pm

    94 Byron Hout = punk
    9 LeGarrette Blount = thug

  342. d1島 September 3, 2009 7:58 pm

    From the ESPN blog writer

Oregon had plenty of chances to come back and win. But it twice failed to convert on fourth downs in Broncos territory in the second half.

    One was a fourth-and-1 — mano-a-mano — and the Ducks got whupped.

LeGarrette Blount failed on that carry.

And then he went nuts after the game, punching a Boise State player and forcing security to drag him off the field when he went after some fans.

    I feel sad for Blount.

But he deserves a long suspension, perhaps season-long, and he might have just cost himself an NFL opportunity.

  343. chawan_cut September 3, 2009 8:00 pm

    d1,
    game? what game?
from what i saw, oregon didn’t even show up for the game. at least their offense didn’t. their poor D had to play for like 45 minutes.

Terribly embarrassing for both teams. More so for the UO. Dang.

Looks like the fool ran his mouth and the idiot retaliated. Then to continue fighting security while being dragged off the field! Dang.

One thing about BSu and the UO, though, the rest of the players looked classy and disciplined by not letting it escalate.

    DAMN!

First, thanks Chawan for embedding the vids on SH, only way I can watch clips on this stupid work PC.

No matter what others may say, I say that it is Hout’s verbal taunting that really made your stereotypical smack talk escalate into something physical. He knew that they won and also shut down Blount despite what Blount had said about what was going to happen and he should have taken the HIGH road and just shook hands with Blount. That would have hurt even more….as my mom would say, Kill um with kindness./shrug

Listening to the Wahine game. As much as I love Scott Robbs, he sounded like he had a few too many before the game. He was definitely slurring during his interview with Shoji and screwed up the player introductions for BOTH St Louis and Hawaii. I have never heard Danielson labeled as 6’3″ before! Had a hard time identifying players in the first set. Second set, he seems to get better with time.

From what I gathered from the video clips linked here regarding the end of the game, while Hout shouldn’t have said anything and taken the high road, but what Blount did is inexcusable. In my mind, I can’t help but think that Blount was looking for someone to go after to vent his frustrations on. Heck, even fellow Oregon teammates had to restrain him.

If the University of Oregon doesn’t hand down appropriate punishment for him, hopefully the Pac-10 won’t have any problems doing it for them. Wouldn’t be surprised if Boise State punishes Hout in some form.

  403. G (China) September 3, 2009 10:43 pm

The way the fourth quarter looked in the BSU game, seems like what sudden change is for. It seems like BSU is quite ready for such situations not letting Oregon score when they were deep in their territory.

  408. jm2375 September 3, 2009 11:01 pm

    Good night everyone.

Have fun at the t-gate tomorrow.

Got my dvr set for tonight’s vb game.

  409. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc September 3, 2009 11:19 pm

Friday night’s game will be re-broadcast on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, at 1 PM.

The re-broadcast situation is very different this year – probably in part due to the consolidation of KGMB & KHNL/K5, but that’s just a guess on my part..

Each game will be handled differently so I was told by K5’s programming department to check on the broadcast schedule on a weekly basis. Also, according to the staffer some games – especially the road games broadcast nationally – may not be re-broadcast on K5 if a sponsor isn’t found.

Stephen – would you please post the re-broadcast information each week on a regular basis starting around Wednesday? Mahalo.

Thanks Kazz for changing your header. Great match tonight – and this Sunday, Texas is definitely going to be the the defining mark for the Wahine’s 2009 season. if they can hold their own, they’ll make it through to the playoffs.

    ##################

Once again there’ll be a HI-5 recycling drive at Friday’s T-Gate. The first recipient will be the Na Koa Equipment Fund.

The bin(s) will be set out no around 10 am and all the recyclables will be stored during the breakdown before going on over to Aloha Stadium.

Bring eligible bottles and cans in any quantity from home to donate as well as what you’ll be drinking this Friday.

Remember, we’ll pick up quantities in excess of 250 containers anywhere on O`ahu on Saturday provided that arrangements are made no later than the Friday afternoon since we’ll probably have to borrow a truck.

I was told not to set out a donation jar in which to drop your spare change because it will conflict with another drive going on at the same time. Therefore, we’ll make sure that information sheets are available for those of you who want to make a contribution to any – or all – of the seven different funddrives or organizations on your own.

ALL of the redemption fees will be made on behalf of the Tsaikos & will be sent to the designated recipients within 48 – 72 hours of each T-Gate.

Mahalo in advance for supporting these youth, high school, and UH athletic programs.

Almost forgot = UH 24 Da Odda Guys 20

  411. al September 3, 2009 11:24 pm

i think that we are done recruiting quarterbacks, not unless those three guys we recruited last year are not panning out.

we haven’t heard much about them either, which to me is not a good sign.

  412. Ralph September 3, 2009 11:33 pm

Al the coaches took a long time evaluating the qbs before making a decision this week on who is #2, for them to multi task and comment on the red shirts would be asking too much from this crew. the emphasis is on the here and now, they come later, although it would be nice to know how they are progressing

  413. Ralph September 3, 2009 11:34 pm

so what kind of adobo are you and the boss preparing for the tailgate?

  414. al September 3, 2009 11:34 pm

#368…the future prime minister’s wife? what?
what is the name of her book?
“the bakatare adventures of the prime minister’s ex-wife”

  415. al September 3, 2009 11:35 pm

btw, finally got to watch the leahey and leahey show. great job by the blog host.

  416. al September 3, 2009 11:40 pm

so i am anticipating some kind of hybrid defense featuring the athletic abilities of aaron brown.

    possibly a two back formation.

    some wildcat.

    some improved special teams play.

    a more organized oline.

    better alignment, assignment by all.

the emergence of one or two defensive stars.

one long ball featuring one of our new wideouts.

and pride. would have it, attention to detail.

  417. al September 3, 2009 11:44 pm

    ralphie,
    how are you today?
i think that the rise of bryant moniz’ talent was something the coaches never anticipated nor saw coming. that spring game opened some eyes. in the end, i figured that they would go with rausch since it was “logical” in that he had a year under his belt.

however, we start all over next spring. it will be interesting.

  418. al September 3, 2009 11:48 pm

    ralphie,
the boss has to work. anyway, she is good for one game a season.

i am roasting pork butts tomorrow at the crack of dawn. it is a very unique seasoning that includes adobo spice. it is a mexican style roast pork.

i told stevem he should come down early and try the pork and then go meet peaches later.

and are you cooking something? are you closing the shop early tomw?

  419. Jason September 3, 2009 11:49 pm

    So, I don’t think I saw 34-14 UH. That’s my entry.

Finally done grading these tests. Hopefully the students respond well to the results.

how does your guess the score contest work?

is the first criteria, to guess the winning team.
then, the closest to their points.
then, the closest to the losing team’s points?

  424. Ralph September 3, 2009 11:59 pm

Al i thought adobo is adobo, filipino food, how come yours came out mexican. I have never seen adobo listed in any mexican restaurant, well my most recent visit to a mexican restaurant if you want to call it that was taco bell. LOL.

  454. NYUH September 4, 2009 4:49 am

Scary but somewhat satisfying to see Boise State handle Oregon so readily.

All the best to Colt, sort of hope he goes to another team but I think Washington will keep him.

  455. Garret September 4, 2009 4:50 am

The Raiders coach *really* doesn’t seem to like Samson.

If Chris Morris somehow gets named the starting center … wow. Cable sounded like he was in no mood to give Samson Satele the job everyone assumed was his all along — not even after Satele played all but the first series of the game (Morris drew a surprise start).

“We will look at that but Morris really didn’t do anything wrong for the very short time he was in there and Samson had couple of struggles but seemed to improve and that was the real key for me I wanted to see him get better coming out of this game,” Cable said.

Asked why Morris started, Cable said, “We felt like that is where it was at after last week. After playing that game and how it, he kind of took the challenge probably a little bit more than Samson did and really stepped it up.”

  456. letsgowarriors September 4, 2009 4:51 am

im glad mack is recruiting DEs, dont want to have a situation like this season again. gotta make sure we sign and get them enrolled though, our last 2-3 DEs didnt get enrolled…Lopati, Alofipo, Nobriga.

we need to hit the trences hard in recruiting this season. 6-7 OL and DL each.

  457. NYUH September 4, 2009 4:52 am

Just saw the Boise-Oregon fight on MSNBC. Blount is toast.

  458. Garret September 4, 2009 4:55 am

Note about Kevin Spain’s season opener this week.

Paradise Valley at Bradshaw Mountain (0-1)

The Bears’ season-opening opponent was a tough one. The 41-12 loss at Apache Junction speaks for itself. Things don’t get any easier this week with Paradise Valley coming to town to open its season.

The Trojans are now the prohibitive favorite in 4A, D-II after being a contender in 4A, D-I in recent years. The undermanned Bradshaw Mountain defense struggled last week. It will have to make huge strides in both health and execution this week to slow the PV attack.

Paradise Valley boasts one of the state’s top quarterbacks in University of Hawaii recruit Kevin Spain. It also has two stellar running backs in Tyree Parker and Jake Brown, who combined for 25 touchdowns last year.

The Bears were able to move the ball at times against Apache Junction. If they are going to pull the upset this week, they need to take care of the ball and keep Paradise Valley’s offense on the sidelines.

  461. Garret September 4, 2009 5:13 am

I didn’t realize that SMU had offered Katina also. SMU already has 18 commits and they don’t have many scholarships left…which tells me they never expected to beat out UH for Katina. Many of their recruits haven’t been rated yet by the recruiting services, but 10 of the 18 got 3 star ratings from rivals or scout.
