SUMMERLIN, Nev. — The Warriors today conducted their final practice in Summerlin before Saturday’s road game against Colorado.

Instead of the promised 90-minute practice, the Warriors went 2 hours. Offense is looking sharp, particularly the passing game. Former UH basketball coach Riley Wallace, who lives part-time in Las Vegas, stopped by. He was impressed with quarterback Bryant Moniz’s arm, decision-making and “toughness.”

The defense also went through their multiple schemes. There will be a different look in personnel and strategies this week.

The Warriors leave tomorrow for Boulder, where they will have a walk-through at Colorado’s stadium.

Video coordinator Chris Williams and video graduate assistant Dylan Linkner decided to go shirtless in shooting today’s practice:

Remember when slotback Kealoha Pilares was a skinny freshman? We can’t remember that anymore, either:

Because we’re in the same hotel as the Warriors, we’re able to observe more of the behind-the-scenes preparation. The coaches put in a lot of time. Defensive coordinator Dave Aranda, for instance, was on the phone with a source for about half hour, coming way with nuggets on some of the barely-noticeable techniques Colorado might employ. Then they do video review after video review. After that, each of those scenarios is practiced on the field. As the saying goes, they work hard to make it look easy.

Not to sound like Kalani  from the Ponderosa Pines ads, but Summerlin is quite the neighborhood. The area is clean and, we’re told, very safe. It’s away from the Strip. Houses are affordable. Of course, the job market is tight, and the mercury can hit the triple-digit mark during the summer, and, I don’t care what anybody else says, dry heat is still very hot, but this is really a gorgeous area. For sure.

Would love to see lots of Hawaiians come out and support our first time ever at SnoqualmieFriday, Sept 17th, 8pm Na Leo’s Romantic Waikiki comes to Seattle for the first time ever. Hot off a sold out Japanese tour! Tix start at just $39 and the Snoqualmie Casino is only 20 minutes from downtown Seattle, closer to Bellevue and other eastside communities. It’s a super beautiful place with tons of restaurants, gambling and US!

My Roosevelt classmate, jamie (Hara) Morishige, lives in that town, and she and eight of her friends will be attending.

    4UH, Al, et al,

All of my tickets these days are purchased through the ticket office so they are ‘free and clear’.

I have a large extended family up here in Boulder/Golden and I am doing a ticket count this morning for them. If I have no shows when I sit down with cousins this morning (in 1/2 hour) I will post. I might add that if I have extra game tickets that means I will have extra tailgate tickets as UHAA is not selling tickets at the door I am led to believe.

Game tickets cannot be purchased through Media Relations, UHAA, or UHLWC as we all bought our tickets via UH ticket office. The ticket office returned all excess tickets after the purchase deadline date otherwise UHAD would be dinged for the $75 cost per ticket.

Al is correct in that players cannot sell or trade (or some quid pro quo) their tickets nor can the coaches as they are comp ducats and restricted under NCAA rules. As stated above in the bolg they can be given away.

I am in Boulder at this time working on the logistics of getting people from hotel to ho’ike, tailgate, game, and post game reception. Former players will be at ho’ike, tailgate and post game reception (St. Juilien Hotel). I invite you to stop by and say hello.

For any update that I may provide just send me an e-mail or call the cell #.

    Now who’s Colorado starting QB?

    Waether Update

Beautiful weather here in Boulder. Clear, 14% humidity (water up fans), no wind. I can tell you that about 3:00 PM the temperature starts dropping so bring a light jacket and/or sweats. Last night was 37 degrees up here in Breckenridge, perhaps a bit warmer down in Boulder.

    4UH

I am 4-6 tickets over right now so I can sell them to you or any other fans/supporter. These were purchased through the UH ticket office.

    UH Section

    Section 103 Seats 23-28

We are waiting for confirmation on the tailgate numbers. I will post if some become available.

Na Koa Mike told me not to do this so Mike I apologize but we have some fans that want to sit with UH supporters and contact is important. My cell is 808-295-7969, my e-mail is dweir@hawaii.rr.com

  5. Garret September 16, 2010 4:35 am

Re-post from the last blog this article about the Warriors practicing in Summerlin. ST posted above how nice Summerlin is and the article notes that Mack owns 2 houses in Summerlin and is planning to retire there. Article about UH staying at the Suncoast and practicing at Palo Verde.

“This is a great situation for us,” Hawaii coach Greg McMackin said. “We have great kids. People think I am crazy for bringing the kids to Vegas, but we’ve had no problems here. There are no distractions. We treat this like a business trip.”

  6. Garret September 16, 2010 4:37 am

Texas State made their presentation to Karl Benson and the rest of the WAC 6 weeks ago…so, it looks like the 2 D-IAA Texas schools are on track for the WAC. UT-San Antonio isn’t even playing football now and might get an invitation to the WAC before they even start playing in D-IAA. The WAC needs 2 football-playing members and both UT-SA and Texas State will meet together with the WAC soon…not much reading between the lines.

“(UTSA) is obviously a school that we’re looking at very, very closely, and are very, very interested in,” Benson said. “The information they provided magnified the assets they have and the commitment they have, and the fact that they are somewhere down the road of becoming a very viable and legitimate member of the BCS.”

Benson said Texas State athletic director Larry Teis and school president Denise Trauth made a similar presentation about six weeks ago in Denver and would likely be asked to meet again with WAC members on the same day as UTSA. He said he didn’t think the two schools, rival members of the Southland Conference, would either hurt or help the other’s cause.

Good odds that the presence of Cody Hawkins could be on the field this game. Hansen is still a bit tweaked from the Cal game from several stresses.

Yeppers, The cooler nights are kicking in to Boulder. Gotta luv September, but October is the real kicker there with the pre winter air arriving.

Article about the people from Hawaii on the Nicholls State football team.

Offensive line coach Keith Uperesa, junior running back ‘Olu Naone, junior center Pio Adams and junior linebacker Pa’a Kamauoha all come from similar backgrounds.

Naone comes to Nicholls by way of Nanakuli, Hawaii, while Adams is from Waimanalo, Hawaii. Kamauoha is from Waianae, Hawaii and Uperesa’s hometown is Honolulu, Hawaii.

Always wondered — does anyone know anyone who purchased a Ponderosa Pines lot? Even when I was just a kid, I thought that was the mainland equivalent of buying an acre of lava land. But, of course, the lava covered lots of 40 years ago might be worth some money today.

  22. koakane ip4 September 16, 2010 6:21 am

Nalani and the ladies should love playing at the casino. A few of us, Ahouse, Wafan, Izzy, JJ, Chopsueyboy, his son, Myki and Sj were there last year after the WSU game. Buffet great and it was a newly opened. Got there after nine too and the fuud was still being served.

Morning everyone! Late today… alredy a new blog out.

Great looking picture of our Warriors with the Army Cadets! Mahalo, Dean Ishida!

This game will be about our defense. Hope going back to fundamentals will do it.

“Buy now… for sure.” Isn’t that how those old commercials ended. Man, that was eons ago! Summerlin is a fair distance away from all the glitz and glamour. I got a few cousins residing out there. We were real close to moving there several years ago. We even went to visit some schools and drive around to see what job and small business opportunities were out there. Perhaps it’s time to pay that place another visit!

It’s great that I located this blog, I’ve already bookmarked it so that more people can see what you have to say.

  32. Derek September 16, 2010 7:13 am

Yeah, Summerlin is a nice place and it’s a couple of degrees cooler than the strip. Played golf many times at Highlands Park, Angel Park, Badlands, etc. In fact, the Mountain Course at Angel Park is just adjacent to the Suncoast Casino. The local golfers there say that a lot of retired people live in Summerlin.

  33. (Jesse) James September 16, 2010 7:44 am

Good morning Tsaikos….I actually liked Green Valley better when I lived in Vegas…usually Hawaii people live in either Green Valley or Henderson..and both groups swear their section of Vegas is better because….LOL

  34. 702WarriorFan September 16, 2010 7:44 am

    Good morning HI

Thoughts and prayers to those who needed help and great to hear the good news too.

    St

Have you been to the Red Rock Casino – great buffet but slots doesn’t have great pay-out. Get Casino Players Card for buffet discounts.

Another interesting area to visit is the Red Rock Park – head west on Charleston over the 215 from Sun Coast approx. 15 mins. drive. Loop drive with stops to viewing areas. Some easy trials if you interested in some walking in cooler temps in micro climate areas. Oh yeah, they charge entry fee per auto unless you have National Parks card.

Might drop by the casino early this evening for a meal – hope to see you around.

  35. (Jesse) James September 16, 2010 7:46 am

#27….Michigan Warrior….the commercials usually ended like this “Hey, come and be my neighbor at Ponderosa Pines….call now, for sure.” Saw that commercial a lot during the Checkers and Pogo Show for some reason…..

The reason Colorado “big boys” have hope is that their

offensive line is something like Wisconsin’s—6 foot 9,

6 foot 8, up and down. So that’s why they think they

    can run on UH.

  40. LizKauai m/ September 16, 2010 8:25 am

    yep

    Ponderosa Pines.

I was fresh from AZ when those were on and I just could NOT figure out where the heck they were talking about!

  41. Jun Tao September 16, 2010 8:40 am

#6 – The best thing going for UTSA is their head coach, Larry Coker, formerly of the Miami Hurricanes. Larry Coker seems to be a good fit for their program as he is a proven winner.

  42. madeinhawaii September 16, 2010 8:42 am

Ponderosa Pines … wasn’t that in Montana? A Ranch consisting of 13,000 acres that was subdivided into 908 lots, sold in Hawaii, South East Asia, as well as Japan and caused a lot of commotion in Montana? I believe, none of the land was ever offered for sale in Montana or any other State.

The game with Colorado is not going to be a walk in the park. The Warriors have got to be ready. Most people are looking at the Cal game and judging Colorado by that Cal score. Take away five turnovers and that is an even game. Warriors need to realize that they are playing a Big XII team with Big XII talent. They will be in a dogfight. They cannot beat themselves.

Eliminate turnovers and play great on special teams.

Speaking of Angel Park golf course they serve a deluxe hamburger the size of a large dinner plate. Took me two days to fnish it. Also there a Longs down the road not to far from the Suncoast. Can get Kim chee and laulau there. I ran into a woman from Maui who moved to Vegas working there. I think she’s a manager. Her dad stocks shelves there on a volunteer basis. Friendly guy.

If you check Google, Ponderosa Pines Commercial – the first two listings are from people from Hawaii asking about it!

  74. Derek September 16, 2010 9:51 am

It will be a closely contested game on Saturday. I have a feeling that special teams will come up big and I feel that John Hardy-Tuliau will make a very big block on a punt and Allen Sampson will take one to the house. Colorado will score at least 4 touchdowns, but I’ll take our Warriors 34-31 in a high scoring affair. Enos kicks the winner again with less than a minute left.

P.S. Of course, take the 11 points.

Thank you, I’m having a nice birthday. Just got back from lunch and tonight I’m looking forward to using my $30 free b-day certificate from Benihana. I think they have a dinner for 2 special for $38, so Lori+me will just cost $8.

Bess may be moving up to #2 WR.

Wide receiver Davone Bess may challenge Brian Hartline for the Dolphins No. 2 receiver spot, as he looks on his way up the team’s depth chart after Thursday morning’s practice.

I didn’t realize that UH had a student assistant for special teams on full scholarship last year.

The UD football student-coach recently returned from an extended journey in Hawaii, first participating in the Marianist student semester exchange program at Chaminade University and then working for the University of Hawaii’s football team.

Eventually, however, the squad’s special teams coordinator asked Branick about his potential services.

“He gave me some sheets that he asked me to turn into a PowerPoint; I turned it into a PowerPoint, and he liked it,” Branick said. “And he started asking me, pretty much, what my plans were after that, and I told him, ‘I guess I was just going to go back to Dayton unless I had a reason to stay.’ And then they said, ‘How would you like it if we gave you a full scholarship to stay here and be a special teams student assistant?’ ‘Wow.'”

  92. madeinhawaii September 16, 2010 10:31 am

Ah… found that case study on Ponderosa Pines I read some time ago…

In February 1973, William Smiley, Bozeman, visited Morris

Moche ‘s Honolulu office at the request of the Gallatin city-county

planning director. Smiley posed as an interested buyer. Moche told

him about hunting (Including buffalo), fishing and skiing but never

explained whether these were available on the ranch. He told Smiley

the ranch lies in the center of 35 national parks and adjacent to

Yellowstone Park and Chet Huntley’s Big Sky resort. To say the ranch

is in the center of 35 national parks, when the closest are 100-300

miles away, or that Yellowstone is “adjacent” when it is 100 miles

away Ls a deceptive advertisement. “He (Moohe)

talked about boating on Flathead lake and shopping as

though they were within walking distance.” Flathead is about 250

miles; Great Palls is about 175.

A potential purchaser is given a copy of a Montana Highway

Department brochure about Montana and a public offering statement

required by Hawaii law. Moche had no brochures about the ranch but

did have an album of snapshots. Smiley described the sales talk as

“high pressure tactics” and potentially misleading, especially to

a person unfamiliar with Montana and its land. For example, Moche

told Smiley that the Montana Power Company would install gas and

electricity at no charge. A Montana Power spokesman in Bozeman

later said that he seriously doubted whether the subdivision could

get these services free. He said it was unlikely tint one particular

    subdivision could get special services.

  98. Garret September 16, 2010 10:37 am

The sad thing is that Benihana gives $30 free to be used to anyone in the month that contains their birthday…except for Hawaii. We found out that the certificates couldn’t be used in Hawaii when we tried to sign up our in-laws.

My kids split a kid’s meal there, so our total bill comes out to less than $15 for the 4 of us. We add the $30 back when we figure out the tip, but the meal still comes out really cheap for a birthday night out!

Just kind of reminds us that making it onto an NFL roster is very hard to do. We need to remember that and appreciate the Warriors that have made a teams roster. All positions in the NFL are coveted positions. Thousands of players across the land believe that they are the ones that should be there. Not very many make it. Those are premium, best of the best of the absolute best who make it.

  113. Garret September 16, 2010 11:22 am

SDSU has played 22 paycheck games over the past decade…and lost all 22.

SDSU officials say the revenue from such games is needed. Which is a big reason SDSU agreed to play another power-league team Saturday at Missouri. For playing the game, Missouri will pay SDSU $800,000. Same goes for next year, when SDSU has agreed to play at traditional powerhouse Michigan for $1,016,800.

  114. Garret September 16, 2010 11:24 am

One reason why Pac-10 schools so badly want to increase their TV deal is that they are hurting in their athletic budgets also. Cal’s *annual* deficit is more than UH’s entire deficit total!

In an effort to reduce the athletic department’s annual deficit of $10 million to $13 million, a chancellor’s committee has recommended, among a list of options, that the school consider eliminating five to seven teams from the current menu of 27 offered by Cal.

  115. Garret September 16, 2010 11:24 am

    madeinhawaii,

One other problem for RGM is that about half the CFL season is over, so his salary will only be half of what a normal CFL WR makes.

#114 Garret – I wonder how long that would last if they started beating the team instead of losing?

With all the instances of player misbehavior in the national news, I feel blessed to have a team with a history of good behavior. Pomai,

BSU just got $1.25 million for playing Virginia Tech, Utah is playing a paycheck game at Notre Dame, BYU scheduled a paycheck game at Texas, etc. If teams don’t insist on home-and-homes, there seem to be those paycheck games available even if they have ranked teams.

  120. madeinhawaii September 16, 2010 11:46 am

Walked all the venues today to make sure we could all make the walk from hotel to Mackay Auditorium for the ho’ike and to Folsom for the game. Nice 75 yds of hill at the end of the walk from the Millenium Hotel. Took us 11 minutes but the hill could put a cramp in your legs.

Altitude headaches go away (or are prevented) by water intake. I gues for all the Tsaiko partiers that could mean either a called liquid with water or a beverage ordered with a water back.

I still have those 4-6 tickets in hand for the game.

Note the section on “WAC membership changes”. The conference membership committee will be meeting in person on September 27th in Dallas. Seems like a good place to meet if Texas State and UTSA will be making presentations.

While optimistic, this game has me a bit worried. If they were playing in Hawaii, I’d give Hawaii the thumbs up and 14+ points, but up there… in Folsom… things can get kind of dicey.

Got to focus and execute. Colorado was 50% at home last season… 4 wins, 2 losses the season before…. While they have not won on the road in recent years, they do win at home. Looks like a good percentage of their wins have been against passing teams, too.

  138. wafan September 16, 2010 12:42 pm

Home early today. The system went down about 11 this morning. With all of my assignments on the student commons and the student’s partially completed work in their home directories it was an exercise in time-wasting and basic crowd control.

For a second I thought HF was in charge of the district’s systems.

  139. mctruck September 16, 2010 12:42 pm

The more I look at the situation…I thing theae Texas institutions will compliment the WAC just fine. It will also help toward recruiting; not that recruits will favor these Texas institutions more than the grand-daddy, WAC, institution,(UH).

If the WAC continues and the Texas schools become part of the new WAC, does that mean you’ll be attending more games?

  145. manoa September 16, 2010 12:58 pm

Speaking of Cal’s budget problems, a recent article notes that they are not alone in the PAC 10. Several teams are in similar situation.

This will make it harder to attract these teams to Hawaii because of: (a) travel costs, and (b) the loss of home game revenues– what many of these teams earn playing at home is more than what they get as a guarantee from Hawaii. So Hawaii will have to pay more to get these teams to come here for travel and to make up lost home game receipts.

  146. Stephen Tsai September 16, 2010 1:09 pm

  151. Garret September 16, 2010 1:21 pm

    manoa,

Almost all of the Pac-10 Athletic Departments are losing money, but I think that Cal is losing the most right now.

Pac-10 schools might be interested in neutral site games to get extra money and boost recruiting. Now that the Pac-12 will be split into divisions, many of the Pac-10 schools may not have any football games in LA in a season…so, a neutral site game at the Rose Bowl would be attractive to them. Others may not have any road games in the Bay Area in a season and a neutral site game at the new 49ers stadium would work nicely. I’d prefer those games to include UH instead of some other school (BYU? BSU?) that wants money and California recruiting.

The nice thing about neutral site games is that *both* teams make TV money. Virginia Tech got $2.35 million and BSU got $1.25 million for their game at the Redskins’ stadium. Neutral site games aren’t covered under either school’s TV deal so they can be nice paydays. BYU already moved some games to neutral sites for basketball to exclude them from the MWC TV deal.

Is it the UCLA pistol? The Air Force triple option? Navy’s option spread without tight ends? Florida’s spread offense with shotgun? Ohio State’s spread offense with single and no back sets? SMU’s pistol offense– balanced run and pass? Nevada’s pistol offense with running QB? Georgia Tech’s option spread? Oregon’s running spread? Michigan’s spread offense? Texas Tech’s air raid offense? Alabama’s multiple set offense, including the pistol and shotgun? Is it Houston’s pass crazy (pass more than us) offense? Army’s triple option and set play fly sweep offense? BYU’s multiple set, four wide, trips West Coast offense? The Utah spread option variation? LSU’s pistol offense?

  181. Derek September 16, 2010 3:14 pm

Did you notice that June Jones is running the ball more than throwing it? I wonder why? Maybe he’s trying to shorten the game by running the ball and keeping control of the ball against tougher team, or is because everybody is stopping the pass so he figures to cross them up by running? Either way, I think he’s a pretty smart dude. Sooner or later, he’ll be throwing it around the lot when teams respect he’s running game.

I also think Hawaii should run the ball more in certain situations. An option here left, option right, pistol, shuffle pass, etc. I have never seen us run a reverse, or a flea flicker. Rarely, does Hawaii run any special plays. Now that I’ve said that, you’ll probably see one or two in the next game at Colorado.

  182. Okole Maluna September 16, 2010 3:16 pm

Just watched video of Cabral’s LB core Depth chart. Colorado always had great LB come out for NFL Draft every year due to Coach Cabral.

  183. Pomai September 16, 2010 3:24 pm

Derek I think JJ’s problem is he dosen’t have a QB that can run his RnS from what I have seen.

  184. Okole Maluna September 16, 2010 3:26 pm

JJ at SMU was running more from last year and that’s how they went to their first Bowl game in 25 year. I guess they have the same RB from last year who can run.

But they lost Shawnbrey McNeal a 1188 yard rush and 12 TD. But they have a greaat new kid name Darrly Fields a true freshman at running back.

  185. Okole Maluna September 16, 2010 3:34 pm

I’ve been following June Jone’s on Twitty and he talks quite a bit about Hawaii still.

  186. Okole Maluna September 16, 2010 3:57 pm

And thanks to USC Fan AxiomAngel I stambled on this link that the WAC is actually almost as likely to get a bis to BCS than the MWC. don’t believe me says Axiom, I know it is hard to believe so here is the link:

    http://www.bcsevolution.com/2010/4/23/1438259/the-bcs-releases-the-conference-aq

Axiom also says: Now hat Utah and possibly BYU are going…there is not a chance.

Here is what you should do. Make the first NCAA super conference! Strike now before the BCS schools beat you to the punch because you know it is coming.

Make a super conference SMWC (the Southern and Mountain West conference) which centers around state rivials: Boise St., Idaho, TCU, SMU, Rice and Houston. BYU and Utah State (I know USU has been down…but they are on their way up and Utah is in the PAC). Fresno St., San Diego State and San Jose State. Nevada and UNLV. New Mexico St, New Mexico. Colorado St. and Air Force. Throw in Hawaii, Wyoming and Louisiana Tech. That is a 20 team super conference. Divide them into an East and a West Division so that you can have a conference championship. That allows each division to play every team in that division with two to three non conference games a year (i.e. BYU and Utah) and still get their SWMC Championship game.

This super conference would have three of the four BCS busters! It would extend from Hawaii to Louisiana and open a lot of TV markets. It would have a conference championship. This is the only way that you might convince the BCS for an exemption and get the automatic bid. I know….I am a genius…it is the only chance to get that bid… a risk, but definitely worth a try. It is a pretty radical plan, but as I see it, it is the only way to have a chance. What do you think?

  187. CoolEthan September 16, 2010 4:07 pm

A group pic of everyone with bowling shoes on would be a great ad for Under Amour.

Dayum Okole Maluna! How are you?! I mean really!!

  195. papajoe2 September 16, 2010 4:25 pm

#187 Okole Maluna, That’s a good suggestion, but I think the WAC tried that a few years ago (16 teams) and split. Does anybody even want Hawaii? Someone mentioned this super conference a few weeks/months ago on this blog. This conference should get a solid TV contract, and a lot of publicity, but by the same token, the pie would be split 20 ways. Don’t get me wrong, I would absolutely love it if it would happen. We can always suggest “outside the box” things on this blog and hope someone picks up on it. Good job OM, for keeping it alive!

With the so called “super conference” Okole Maluna suggested, can you imagine the different time slots on TV and even days like Fridays, Thursdays, Mondays? Late Saturdays, Saturday afternoons, etc. More that 1 game a day on TV for this super conference. Sould have viewers from Cali through La.,

Texas and whatever west of the Mississippi. Champion would almost be assured of a BCS game and maybe even a national champion.

    Whoosh..

Coach Cabral is pretty special. Because of him, Waimea’s Jordon Dizon got his chance to go to school and get into the NFL. He spotted Jordon in Pop Warner, I think.

When he was injured during his Sr. Year of HS, nobody said “he should play hurt”. Everybody said “save your body for college”. Jordon became to CU linebackers what Colt Brennan means to UH QBs.

    Whoosh!

  203. Kekoa (iPhone) September 16, 2010 5:16 pm

Garret ~ Happy Birthday to a very astute Warrior fan. I hope you enjoyed your special dinner at the one restaurant that knows how to prepare a very ‘flashy’ Kobe beef meal.

  204. wafan September 16, 2010 5:20 pm

Wow! Waterton a bit too much for me. Looking for something around $1.04. Okay, maybe splurge and go up to $2.08.

Those coming to the UW game next year and needing rooms might want to wait a bit. Distance from the hotel to Husky Stadium is definitely going to be considered. Should have lots of on-campus parking.

  205. wafan September 16, 2010 5:24 pm

Not going to be able to make the Na Leo performance tomorrow night. I have a meeting to set up another conference tomorrow afternoon in the other direction. Dang it. Wish I had known about Na Leo’s performance about 4 weeks ago.

  209. Shoko September 16, 2010 5:38 pm

Seems the drama is heating up between Nevada and our illustrious leader, Karl Benson. Personally, the fact that the other defectors were not present when the WAC decided to file the lawsuit is moot issue. But we shall see what happens as he litigation continues. Stay tuned…folks.

The University of Nevada has demanded that the Western Athletic Conference dismiss its lawsuit against the university on the grounds that the board of directors meeting at which the lawsuit was authorized did not constitute an official board meeting because only six of the nine members were present.

“On behalf of Nevada, I demand that the WAC voluntarily dismiss the Complaint immediately upon receipt of this letter,” Nevada counsel Mary Phelps Dugan wrote in a letter to the WAC’s counsel, Jon Bradley of Golden, Colo., dated Sept. 13. “The bylaws of the WAC only authorize the Board of Directors to initiate litigation. … Nevada is currently a member of the WAC and Nevada President Milton D. Glick is a member of the Board of Directors. … President Glick has received no notice of a Board meeting at which the Board could have taken action to authorize litigation. Similarly, neither Boise State President (Bob) Kustra nor Fresno State President (John) Welty has received notice of such a Board meeting.”

    Oh, Happy Birthday, Garret!

  210. Kazz (click to support UH softball) September 16, 2010 5:55 pm

Someone tell Nevada to go to hell.

  211. oldie September 16, 2010 5:58 pm

Happy Birthday Garret! Wishing you many more to come.

Always look forward to your informative posts.

Hope your company makes tons of money so you can help the UH athletic department get out of their deficit.

  212. Kazz (click to support UH softball) September 16, 2010 6:01 pm

I am pretty sure Bob Kustra would have been behind the decision to sue Nevada and Fresno State.

    😆

  213. Kazz (click to support UH softball) September 16, 2010 6:04 pm

I guess Nevada could just reject any WAC title they win in spite of the lawsuit over the next two seasons…

But then again… Nevada would have to actually WIN a WAC championship too so… 😎

  214. Kazz (click to support UH softball) September 16, 2010 6:05 pm

Nevada and Fresno State should get “booed” out of every visiting WAC venue they play in over the next two seasons…

  215. Kazz (click to support UH softball) September 16, 2010 6:13 pm

Nevada is stupid. Once they ditched they ditched their rights and by them leaving, they no longer have a stake in the best interests of the WAC.

You don’t have to attend the William Richardson Law School to figure that one out.

  216. Shoko September 16, 2010 6:18 pm

Rutroh, Kazz is on a rampage. 😆

Maybe I should have thought twice about reporting that tidbit of news.

I do agree that Boise State thinks of Nevada and Fresno as the little brother that always wants to tag along.

  217. HNL September 16, 2010 6:24 pm

They saved Glick the embarasement, if he voted he would have voted yes.

    HAPPY B-DAY GARRET.

  218. Kazz (click to support UH softball) September 16, 2010 6:28 pm

    Shoko,

Not on a rampage, just thought after thought coming into my head. The timing is off because as soon as I post something another thought comes in right away.

If I just waited a little more, it would be a more structured post. 😆

  219. Kazz (click to support UH softball) September 16, 2010 6:30 pm

So… what is this stuff I hear about Jane Croson not being able to finish her high school volleyball career?

I haven’t read Cindy Luis’ blog and I swear it’s not working properly either.

But I heard that Wahine recruit Jane Croson will not play volleyball for her high school team for the rest of her senior year.

  220. Kazz September 16, 2010 6:32 pm

I always thought of Fresno State and Nevada as the uncles you don’t wanna leave the little kids alone with at the family reunion.

Hmm… is that a bit much?

I toned down what I really wanted to say.

  221. Shoko September 16, 2010 6:35 pm

Hehe, no problemo Mr. Kazz. Your emotions are justified. Carry on, sir.

    MIH,

Agreed, Reno is hot, but not as hot as Vegas. Besides, its dry heat and thats more bareable, or is it bearable? Never figured out the difference. Forgive my ignorance. Oh also agree, there are a few bygone gamblers and gangsters here in Reno, however they mostly reside in rural area of Lake Tahoe. You probably notice them more at the craft fairs. They’re the ones selling candles. 😆

  233. jm2375 September 16, 2010 8:20 pm

Kazz – according to Luis’ blog:

Online sports out of Orange County reported that Croson and Lawless were suspended for some unknown actions at a school dance on Aug 27th and school policy is for players to be suspended for nine weeks following infractions, that would mean Oct 29th for both.

With only two matches left in the regular season by that date I doubt that she would rejoin the team although we never know.

    IS IT SATURDAY YET?!

  236. Garret September 16, 2010 8:41 pm

On a down note, there is controversy over how the rules were written for the Aloha Stadium turf contract. Could the rules be written in such a way to exclude all local companies?

A Hawaii based company has thrown a yellow flag, saying it’s not being allowed to bid on the $1 to $2.5 million turf replacement project at Aloha Stadium because of how the contract proposal was written.

The owner of Sports Turf Hawaii, Logan Hamocon, told Khon2 he supports Carr’s effort to bid on the Aloha Stadium project. He also questioned the way DAGS wrote the specifications for the project.

“I think it’s unfortunate,” said Hamocon. “Either the homework hasn’t been done or someone hasn’t thought this thing through. It feels like an injustice is being done.”

  237. greenthumb September 16, 2010 8:45 pm

#233, the sentence about “possibly Nevada and Fresno” leaving the WAC was a little weird, since the only issue seems to be when, not if.

  238. Ralph September 16, 2010 8:48 pm

anybody but Mufi! All of us and the next generation will be paying for rail, yes, traffic is bad, but who will be riding the rail and be willing to pay full fare. The seniors would want a fare break, so would the students, and the State will find a way to subsidy the fare for the less fortunate and those deemed low income. So how many are left to pay full fare to pay for the future maintenance and payroll plus benefits for rail transit.

Mufi is tossing out a bone three days before election, he claims he has a vision for UH athletics. Where was he when the Fumbler screwed the program, he was in the Democratic Party network to make a difference or at least take a proactive stand, but he didn’t. Mufi is a politician, nothing else.

  239. Aloha Oe September 16, 2010 8:50 pm

i guess when you’re triailing in all the polls and the clock is about to run out on your team, you have to do/say something to close the gap.

well, at least he’s going down fighting.

although i would like to hear what the other two major candidates have to say.

    GO UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII!

  240. Ralph September 16, 2010 8:50 pm

Lots of politicians show up at events, sugar bowl included, it’s called photo op for future advertising and election promo.

  241. Ralph September 16, 2010 8:57 pm

Hamocon was the contractor left off the Ching field turf bid because some unscrupulous contractor who sat on the board wrote the specs to eliminate his contract bid. He protested, filed suit, and prevailed. Hamocon’s company installed the Domo turf for both the baseball field and Ching Field (Cooke Field)

Rivals.com has a story about the MS Valley State bb team and their brutal schedule (playing many “body bag” games) because of the school’s dire financial situation.

They open the season at Georgia on Nov. 12. They later visit national powers Kentucky, Butler, BYU and Marquette. By the time they begin league play in the SWAC at Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Jan. 4, they’ll have played 13 straight road games, traveled about 12,600 miles and faced eight teams projected to at least contend for an NCAA tournament bid next season.

    One of the comments:

Who all is going to go to the Na Koa Luncheon on Monday? Sorry i missed the Cattle Call today, but paperwork still envelopes me.

CHANGE OF SUBJECT: I am in serious need of someone with exceedingly strong social media, digital camera/video skills, computer editing, e-marketing to help me move into the second decade of the 21st Century. I also desperately need help in learning how to use various Apple products – some already purchased, some waiting until I get a better handle on the ones I already have but haven’t begun to master yet. If you know of anyone please send an e-mail to swood at hoku dot com.

FYI: Neil Abercrombie met privately with several UH officials and key members of the Hawai`i State Legislature months ago as the conference realignment discussions began to heat up. I am not privy to the specifics of the discussions, but I do know that meetings were warm, friendly, and showed Neil’s ongoing commitment to both UH’s academic and intercollegiate athletics concerns. I do know that he has received at least two briefing papers on the options/alternatives which UH faces and the impacts upon the state budget.

d1…thanks for the memories. forgot what a great voice karen carpenter was. too bad she suffered from anorexia which led to her heart failure at a very young age.

  270. SteveM September 17, 2010 2:12 am

    Re: #269

d1島 — my sister was a big Carpenter’s fan. Come to think of it, you both attended high school the same time 🙂

Good question–I can’t think of any Tsaikette singing that genre… but Juliet could. Possibly Slugger, who has the tone and range. Maybe Bren (Wena’s colleague) but I don’t think they are coming. 🙁

    237, Garret

I know Logan Hamocon and Sports Turf Hawaii and it is a shame that once again someone is trying to play politics to keep this guy out (remember the time the guy on the contractors licensing board tried to stack the rules against him on Ching Field).

He is the top professional in this field in Hawaii (no pun intended) and his company has done a great job on all of its installations– they are the best. If you made a list of people recommending his work, it would be very long.

Logan and his crew are also great guys very customer oriented. I hope he will be allowed to bid.

  285. mctruck September 17, 2010 7:38 am

  289. Kekoa September 17, 2010 7:53 am

manoa ~ I remember Tom and the other legal minds of the blog getting involved in the Ching Field fiasco. If it weren’t for their intervention, the field would never had gotten completed.

It has been my recent experience with a UH ‘representative’ that lends me to believe that it is not only a UH contracting snafu. It’s a shame that business is conducted in total fear of what the Union’s will do if they don’t check with them first.

  294. Slugger September 17, 2010 8:16 am

    d1,

Nah, my roommate John used to listen to Thorogood, but I loved going to concerts with headliners like Santana, Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, BB King, etc. Those were the days. Bonnie Raitt opening for Johnny Winter was great; little club and she was an unknown then. Showing my age… 😀

    BEAT THEM BUFFALOES!!!

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  303. don weir September 17, 2010 8:45 am

David Eagle of UH FB 1960-63 came to town and we wound up at Boulder’s Chicago Pizza (good grinds). We started to see UH fans in downtown last night.

Marilyn Moniz-Kaho’ohanohano (Wahine VB National Championship Squad & UHAD Assoc Ath Dir) got to town and will be attending tonight’s ho’ike and all pre/post game activities. Probably more pizza prior to the ho’ike too!

We are starting to see more UH Alums that competed for UH ( all sports represented) showing up to events and activities. They are starting to ask how can they help. UHLWC is just getting the reconnection efforts off the ground. This is a good thing!!

You in Boulder? See you at the ho’ike, or the tailgate, or the game, or at the post game reception? See any of us at an event? Come up and say aloha and let me introduce you to alums and UH staff that are on the road for this game. Together, UH Fans and Supporters + former athletes/alums can make a difference!! Governor Aryoshi once sent us a telegram while we were on the road with a one word message that is true today as it was back then: IMUA.

  304. d1島 September 17, 2010 8:46 am

    kioakane,

    al, (J)J,

If I could remember more groups, like the Kinks, the Animals, Elton John…hard to remember that long ago… but dancing to Tito Puente was “Azucar!”

  311. d1島 September 17, 2010 9:18 am

  318. Slugger September 17, 2010 9:25 am

    d1,

ST probably stayed up last night to get that last hurrah in and will sleep on the plane…that’s what my ‘ohana does.

    al,

I wasn’t at Woodstock, but saw most of the groups in SF later. Imagine waking up to Jimi Hendrix’s “Star Spangled Banner” blasting in the morning as your alarm clock… my buddy used to do that to us when we “crashed at his pad”. Made memories, made memories, made memories… Making more memories with the Tsaikos…

K, onward into the day… Happy Aloha Friday!

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  321. Markazulu September 17, 2010 9:28 am

You know I was watching ESPN an man did Kirk Herbstriet sound so Bias. He called the WAC a “Inferior” Conference which is partially true but that doesnt sound like a “unbias” description of so called “Fair” Analyst if I was the WAC every single year at our conferences I’d show highlights of what ESPN said about them to fire people up. I mean damn Kirk dont try to at least sound professional…

Ran into ST early last night at Sun Coast coffee shop after we finished our having dinner there. He was having dinner and also doing some work too. He said the team was leaving on flight this morning around 0800. Didn’t ask when he was leaving or how. Just assumed same time as the team since he hasn’t updated or posted new blog this morning.

Team is sked to walk thru at stadium late afternoon after hotel chk-in.

    Offense & defense are ready.

Wish I had gone top Palo Verde to watch the team practise this week.

  430. Judith Hull September 26, 2010 2:12 am

This motion picture is surely a chick-flick but a very good a single. The dialog is witty and Emma Stone’s character is awesome. My only complaint is that Emma is way too lovely and cool in the starting of the movie for me to think that no 1 of the opposite intercourse had ever noticed her. They should really have made her plainer and geekier so her transformation right into a modern day Hester Prynne (the adulteress from the Scarlet Letter) later would have been a lot extra dramatic. But all round a fun movie and I cherished the references towards outdated ’80’s John Hughes teenager motion pictures.I highly recommend this movie for women. Men, stay at dwelling and cease clogging the user reviews along with your input. Everyone knows you’re not going to like this kind of film. A person wonders why you went to view it while in the first place. Should you did it to please a woman, then suck it up and maintain your mouth shut. Your determination clearly wasn’t the motion picture.John Hughes could quite possibly have handed away, but the torch has been handed to Will Gluck, who requires one on the 1st intelligent teenager motion picture scripts that I’ve seen in extra than a decade and knocks out a residence run movie with performances by a top-notch solid headed by Emma Stone, who finds new ground as a female lead, and terrific supporting performances by Amanda Bynes, Thomas Haden Church, Patricia Clarkson, Stanley Tucci Lisa Kudrow and the relaxation with the forged. The title may possibly make it seem like a sleazy Superbad for teenager girls, but the film is really a contemporary teen riff on the Scarlett Letter (“A”) the Hawthorne novel about Hester Prynne, who is unfairly shunned by her neighborhood for a perceived tryst having a married man.Stone’s character,Olive, tells her most effective friend a little white lie, only to possess it blossom right into a rep about her becoming a slut that gets her attention that she’s secretly craved through the relaxation of college, even if it’s damaging attention. When the lie magnifies to epic and ridiculous proportions, the query that the film seeks to solution is how Olive can place that genie back into the bottle, and will she possibly be the same? Bert V. Royal knocks out a script which is old-school witty and charming. It intentionally dredges up homages to Hughes classics like “Sixteen Candles,” “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and “Say Anything”which it joins within the pantheon of generational teenager comedy films. A entirely pleasurable movie for teens and adults alike.

Before my comment let’s thank the site owner for this finding which is truly an exceptional one, and it’s quite rare these days to find quality content. Online dating (or even offline dating) can be extremely hard given the fact that there are so many people out there looking for a date. Big numbers can lie sometimes and you have to be unique and approach your date with a given attitude and self confidence. There are so many online dating sites out there that you don’t even know where to glimpse but there are a few great ones where its worth to spend your time. dating like everything else requires time and patience. I will wish the best for everyone on this exciting journey!

Because it will be business as usual for the auto industry once they get tax money. They don’t need to change, they just need cash. The old business model works well. Pay for employees that no longer work for the company.Pay individuals 30+ dollars an hour to screw on lug nuts.Sounds like a solid , competitive business plan to me.

We got a great deal and we weren’t the only ones buying that day. We are not UBER rich, we just saved and figured it was better to do it before a potential Obama victory, unless he has plans to take our vehicles too.

You clearly have a grasp handle of the matters everyone is searching for on this site anyways and you could without a doubt even gain a dollar or two off of some advertising.
