“The Noke”; Warrior Bowl rosters
The Warriors today uveiled “The Noke,” a scheme in which running back Inoke Funaki takes the direct snap.
“I am so honored,” left guard Ray HIsatake said, “to be in an offense named after a great man. Inoke is a living legend.”
It will be an easy transition for Funaki, who played quarterback during his first four years at UH. There’s a twist in the scheme in which quarterback Greg Alexander can curl deeper into the backfield, creating a double-pass option.
The only drawback is Funaki, not wearing the protective orange jersey assigned to quarterbacks, was a live target during team drills. He suffered a cut on the left side of his neck from linebacker Po‘okela Ahmad.
“He went for the jugular,” Funaki said.
“Did I do that?” Ahmad said. “Everybody keeps telling me I did that. I’m going to say I’m sorry.”
In other UH developments:
• Greg McMackin said defensive tackle Tuika Tufaga will go on scholarship this summer. McMackin said he has one scholarship to give. Among the candidates are slotback Jon Medeiros, outside linebacker Corey Paredes, wideout Daniel Lofton and kicker Brett Symonds.
• With tweaking injuries to cornerbacks Tank Hopkins (back) and Jeramy Bryant (right ankle), nickelback Richard Torres and Lewis Walker were the No. 1 corners today. Steve Christian also got a lot of reps at corner.
• Right wideout Malcolm Lane finally broke out with some big plays. In one, he juked a defender before scooting into the end zone.

It’s Administrative Assistant’s Day, so raise a glass to the folks who really run the athletic department:
• Jeannie Lee
• Bobbie Omoto
• Erika Buder-Nakasone
• Kalei Miyahana
And, of course …Bianca Tokumoto
Whoa – how come sooooo early today??
It’s because I fell asleep so early last night.
Ever wake up and you don’t know where you are? I felt like Homey.
What??!!?? You woke up in the back of a truck??
Good Morning Tsaikos!!
Thanks to ALL the Administrative Assistants, tell your bosses to take you out for a nice lunch.
top 5 🙂
ST, did you ever find out if Gary Nagy is in school at UH?
So if Texas secedes as their governor suggested, does that mean all its football teams are ineligible to be part of the NCAA? No UT, Texas A&M, SMU? Hey, UH could even reclaim the passing title if Texas Tech was not eligible.
Morning all…
NYUH…
If Texas secedes from the US… hmm… Castro would apply for a travel visa. The Somalian Pirates would look to set up a base in the Gulf. Japan would try to negotiate an oil deal. June Jones would be out of a job.
Ralph,
RE: The Swap Meet
Before 1 PM the Swap Meet is in full swing and parking is pretty much that recessed area fronting the ticket office on the K-Mart end of the parking lot. After 1:30 the crowds and vendors start to thin out. By two-thirty half are gone and one can weave in closer to the entrances around the Stadium. By three, most of the vendors are gone.
Had the honor and pleasure of attending the 2007 Poinsettia Bowl game and the debut of Ken Niumatalolo as the Head Coach of the Naval Academy Football Team. Went with a couple local guys and we all had a sense of excitement and pride in what was happening. And the fact he became the HC for a US Service Academy during a time of war and the bowl game taking place in San Diego…..super special, super chicken skin. From the kinda low Navy jet flyover (small kine shi shi da bibidis) to their inspiring fight song to the great game itself, it was an event that I will pridefully remember and tell of for the rest of my life.
Good Morning Tsai-kos!
Morning to all and happy admin assistance to all who help run their offices.
almost top10???? Just lurking from da west coast. Aloha to my old buddies al, steveM. Have a “great day” to the SoCal Tsaikos!!
Good morning everyone 🙂
Hey hey duffer are you and whitey planning to attend the scrimmage or tgate this sat.
Good Morning All!
Maybe I can be Stretch’s admin assistant 🙂
Koakane,
No, I don’t think so, I have a fund raiser for junior golf on Sunday. Whitey’s playing in that tournament.
Aloha Kakahiaka!
Hey Stephen so apparently some of the top applicants for the men’s volleyball coach are Charlie Wade, Mark Presho, Reed Sunahara, Scott Wong and Mike Sealy,
Any others that you have heard about?
I wonder if any current MPSF/D1 head coaches have applied.
Morning kind hearts!
Looking forward to the Spring Game. Got to go to a 95th birthday party first – so I guess no blood sausage or whatever. See you at the game if I can convince my wife to leave the party a tad earlier!
g’morning Tsaikos! happy hump day.
whoooooooooosh
happy admin day to the ones who really run the department.
hwnstln
good to hear from you. i guess i will see you in september. where will you be staying?
Congratulations to all of them! Great people!
or is it Thanks instead of congrats?
Thanks to all the great admin out there! 🙂 happy earth day, too!
What about Marilyn Moniz-Kaho’ohanohano? I might be a little bias, but she seems to be in a great deal of good press at UH with regards to the athletic department.
Good morning Tsaikos…thanks to all the administrative professionals out there….they do run things…..
Whoa, I like be stretch’s administrative professional for today..since he is buying lunch…mwahahahahahaha
KK…so what did the DOE provide??? Manapua, noodles, doughnuts, chicken, steak,,,,,,
Hey, hey, that’s not true all the time!
Sorry j/j, that job’s taken!
Good morning everyone!
…and a “Good Day” wish to all the Admin Assistants!
Here’s wishing all of the AAs a great day! Mahalo for everything you do!

Hey Nalani! Yeah, I saw the commercial!
oh yea jj DOE=headaches
hey hey homey long time no nothing. how you doing? keeping the internal fires burning I bet bwhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
see you this saturday bright and early
Other things going on in my life, having a very busy week launching my newest artist Anuhea.
If any Tsaikos are available after the game Saturday, she’s doing a FREE instore at Best Buy Honolulu 6pm and then a jam session at The Shack Waikiki 10pm (w 3 Plus). I’ve invited all the UH Football guys (quite a few of them have a crush on Anuhea already) and hoping a lot of them come. Kahai will be there with the “OL Mafia.”
http://www.anuheajams.com
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eq6E-3uWGGU
Hilarious! Anuhea’s CD Release video by none other than the “one dollah” guy….(He’s w OneHawaii BTW).
wow just noticed this on UH web site.
Do Admin Asst still know shorthand and use a typewriter? Work is easier for them…word processing, spreadsheet/graph software, spell check, grammar check, auto page formatting, automated time entry, automated payroll, cell phones, blackberry’s, automated scheduling, PC’s and Mac’s and printers all connected via a LAN…I’ll take my coffee black.
That’s why I’m going to Heald College and get my Admin Asst certificate. Security guard is getting too routine.
nalani can you and anuhea swing by the tgate do an informal den afta do a small fire sale if we can’t do the jam drive by lattas?
just thinking out loud…
koakane – So what, you think I can pass for 12 and under? I get the height. Yep, see you bright and early on Saturday.
koakane,
Yep Swap Meet in full bloom this Saturday.
ergo, my post #8
Kekoa:
April 21st, 2009 at 4:18 pm
For the Tsaiko’s planning on coming early for Breakfast on Saturday. The menu items available:
~ Eggs ‘n Portuguese sausage from Maui. Would have been eggs from Hilo, but BHF2 wen strangle doze birds!
~ Blood Sausage for Rob25 will prolly be turned down, so first come….
~ Animal parts of all shapes ‘n sizes for the grill.
~ Homemade Corn bread baked by Mrs. SailorBlue.
~ Plans are in the works for Guri-Guri to be served to the lucky first t-gators to arrive in time. Jason…here’s your chance!
Of course there will be the usual array of sushi’s and other delicacies to choose from. Just come on down to celebrate our 1st t-gate of the year, and re-new old friendships.
It’s also a good time to make new ones, and bit$$slap those trouble makers who been pickin’ on you via the blog!
homey the good one use all the above about and still whack down a plate of yummies at the same time.
koakane,
So if you get one 12 year-old fo’ drive your car in and do the old drive-in movie ride-in-the-trunk routine, going be FREE! 😀
Kekoa – What time is early?
mih 😳 my bad too much fuud aroma in the office
homey…I heard KK said he wanted to be there by 6 a.m. LOL… depending on how work is this weekend, I may swing by early….like 8…and than leave and come back later…we shall see….
d1 betta yet do the three stooges move and walk in backwards to make dem think you leaving bwhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
koakane,
…that’s silly.
heheheh
jj you wuush you betta finish cooking befoa you leave.
thanks for the heads up nalani.
setting the dvr as we speak.
adding to kekoa’s list one huge 40 cup kope percolator, ralph’s pot for hot water (tea), and majong set (diana you ready) challenge them.
Stephen did you wake up Wena and say, “Hey Baby.. Me so Homey”
Off to Costco for a hotdog snack!!!
mahalo to all the hard working A.P.’s
Happy belated bday 4/21 to #80 Tua Mahaley
Parking shouldn’t be a problem for the Stadium this Saturday unless more than 5K show up for autographs. If the bulk start meandering in after 2 pm most of the parking area will be open. If they arrive after 2:30, 75% of the Stadium parking lot will be cleared.
UNLESS, all the vendors hang around for the scrimmage OR they think they can make money off of the fans.
Hmm… Just saw this in the “Top Breaking News”
Hope it’s just a one-day thing. A passing deluge.
al ™:
April 22nd, 2009 at 9:16 am
thanks for the heads up nalani.
setting the dvr as we speak.#1 al talks while he posts?
#2 Note to self: be sure to post the song titles in real time as the broadcast plays just to p*ss off al.
Kekoa – you are very funny!
I’ll just be happy if I can (hopefully) make it to the stadium in time to see Kahai get in for a few series! I’ll be on Perry and Price that morning with Linda Fehoko (Vili’s wife) to PR the All Poly Football Camp, and Anuhea will be on the radio live that morning too. Maybe you guys can blast the stereo at the tailgate and I can give a shout out to Tsaikos if they let me on the microphone.
Blast the stereo?
I thought ‘stereo’ at Tsaiko Tailgate were the likes of Kekoa on the left, LizK on the right and Pride grounding both in the center.
recap … incase anyone forgot … just like me.
WARRIOR BOWL SCHEDULE
1 p.m. — Stadium Gate Opens (Gate 4 only)
1-2:30 p.m. — Autograph & Photo Session (south concourse)
3 p.m. — Scrimmage (fan seating on Makai side)
Thanks for reminding me that today is Admin Asst. Day…I totally forgot and if it was not for you I would really look stupid as well as not forgiven for a long time…the gift of appreciation was handed over after lunch but I figure there is no time limit in presenting office gifts, right?
Nalani ~ We will be listening to the Perry & Price show! Be sure and stop by after with hubby and family to partake of the T-gate goodies.
I’m thinking Coach Mack will play those who worked hard to prepare for Spring training. Kaha’i had established his work ethic in the weight room and then on the field. I believe he will get his share of pt because of his dedication to his craft. You tell him that the “Eyes of Tsaiko’s Are Upon him!”
Note to MIH ~ We will postpone our normal T-gate warbling in order to listen to the broadcast. No promises of holding the noise down after that!
sh forum member cracker reports the following observations from today’s practice.
Anybody wanna put names to the numbers?
Great stuff from practice today.
Thanks Stephen.
Thanks mih.
Hope we see a lot of the High “Nokes” this season….
what’s the word on blount and j. taylor?
sounds like lane still hasn’t conquered the dropsies. he should practice catching a baseball barehanded.
QB:
#11 was used as a qb in a new package. the way florida uses tebow. he is a real good runner/ slashing type. Inoke Funaki
#12 the starting qb looks pretty decent, he is the best we got. Greg Alexander
#10 has great feet , and a quicker release and strong arm. he is about 6′. Shane Austin
RECEIVERS: OVERALL….SPEED.
#3 is fast, good hands, cuts routes short at times but is constantly getting well coached by stuzz. seems to be #12’s favorite target. <b.Rodney Bradley
#89 on the other side did well too, but had a few drops, good speed . Malcolm Lane
#5 seems to have the full package. catches EVERYTHING, great route runner and has real good speed. caught a lot of balls today Billy Ray Stutzman
#87 is a big target, but seems to lack consentration at times. Mike Tinoco
#84 (i think) tall kid, awkward at times catches ball with body Joe Avery
SLOTS:
#1 big target, tough , great hands , a football player Greg Salas
#21 is ‘the real deal’ lightning quick, hands, great routes. Kealoha Pilares
#88 looks to be the #3 guy. Ryan Henry
#2 nice job today. quick not fast, good hands. <Jon Medeiros
RBs:
#23 is big Leon Wright-Jackson
#22 had some real nice runs Jayson Rego
#11 -see qbs. he is not the fastest but kid has great vision. Inoke Funaki
Putting the info from the two observers today together one can understand why the receivers seemed to have the upperhand today.
Hope the DB’s heal up fast.
vballfan1:
Rick Tune also is applying.
….and tino reyes?
I think today was the first time Torres played corner all spring.
Tino Reyes is applying.
what are his chances?
okay everybody get ready for the “noke shuffle”.
did blount practice today?
and whatever happened to steve stepter?
al – Are you going to teach the “noke shuffle” to everyone at the t-gate?
Congratulations to Tuika Tufaga!
I’m glad that UH worked on “The Noke”! The Wildcat formation is hard for NFL defenses to cover, so The Noke should be quite effective for UH.
Let’s see, forgot to include my W-2 in my State return, mailed it one day late, forgot (never knew) it’s admin assistant day. So now, in addition to the Dept Of Taxation on my tail, I’ve got three ladies all nuha with me for not taking them for lunch.
Can it get any worse?
This mock draft has Mouton going to the 49ers. I don’t post most of these mock drafts that mention the Warriors, but I’m sure that A-House would like Mouton to go to the 49ers.
duffer – If you are getting money back then no worry about the lateness of your taxes.
Another update on Mouton. I guess Mouton couldn’t have that private workout with the Bears DB coach that had been reported last week because of his hamstring injury.
Mike Leach is upset that the NFL downgrades his QBs…this sounds a lot like what JJ and UH fans were saying on Colt’s behalf last year.
Shawn Withy-Allen is doing well this season in Fayetteville.
The Athletic Department budget at Nevada has increased over 300% in the past 8 years! Their associate ADs have gotten big percentage raises and some of the coaches have gotten nice raises, as shown in the table.
Mahalo to all of the Administrative Assistants today, and every day! We know it you who keeps the cogs in motion.
oops, it = it’s
Garret:
Thanks for the mock draft info on Mouton going to the 49ers. Wouldn’t mind seeng Veikune with the 9ers also.
Keeping dream alive that Niners will draft Sanchez #10 and then ship him off to Washington for Colt and a #2 or #3 pick next year. Again, part of this trade is Bess coming to the 49ers for a late 6th round choice this year. After all, Bess was an undrafted players last year. Plus, Miami looking to draft another WR this year.
After the draft or during the draft, Niners can contact Grice-Mullin with an offer.
WOW, us 49er fans will be in hog heaven!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Admin Assistants are like NCO’s in the military for it’s they that really run the show and make things go.
Best to all of them out there – wherever you may be!
MiH and Rob,
Thanks for the info.
RBs:
#23 is big Leon Wright-Jackson
#22 had some real nice runs Jayson Rego
#11 -see qbs. he is not the fastest but kid has great vision. Inoke Funaki
Hope that means LWJ is going to be a hell of a blocker.
If Leon block effectively, he’ll be in for most of the game, that would give him plenty of oportunities to get his hands on the ball. I think it’s safe to say that we all want to see him have a break out senior year.
Did I miss Tua’s berfday? Happy belated berfday, Tua Mahaley!
You got some of the best hair ~ too bad we don’t get to see the ‘fro without the helmet-head style.
Nice morning at practice, even though I pulled a Tsai & got there late. There’s always tomorrow…
Esme & out… Go enjoy the earth…walk on it…
Another SH update on practice today … this one from “Kahaluu Imua Warriors”
Mahalo again mih!
Very detailed stuff; love it! 🙂
I hope UH has already pre-processed all the rest of LaCount’s credits so that they will know immediately if he qualifies or not after this semester. That’s one big guy that everyone seems to be looking forward to.
How’s the left tackle position competition going? Anyone? Pride.?
Who is bringing the grilling supplies on Saturday?
The “Noke”. Perfect.
Thanks to all who posted the practice reports.
Woke up from a small kine nap and only DPK posted…
MIH:
Wonder if Akina did make a BIG difference for them as a coach?
Did Akina get down graded on the coaching staff at Texas? Thought someone posted something last year about a “new” Associate Head Coach. or, Texas has a bunch of “associate head coach” positions?
Maybe Garret can comment on this.
homey:
define “grilling supplies”.
Wonder how effective the “Noke” will be once it’s used in a game?
One will presume that UH has a “number” of options in running this play – run or pass; different receiver/routes, etc.
DPK – You coming to the t-gate and game on Saturday?
A-House – The charcoal, fire starting tool, fire accelerant, grilling utensils, and a griller.
A-House – When the Warriors run the “Noke” I think the D would expect run. It all comes down to BLOCKING! Run a few running plays with this formation then all of a sudden hit Pilares or Salas on a slot streak pattern. It’s fun being a sofa king coach!
Doesn’t Funaki receive the ball in the RB position? So the defense really has no idea when the “Noke” will be run, right? Or did I miss something, like always?
off topic here…
I was looking at pics of Saturn streaming in from outerspace and saw this one that looks like there’s someone walking on the outer ring of Saturn… Maybe GOD fixing holes in the universe?
http://inapcache.boston.com/universal/site_graphics/blogs/bigpicture/sat_04_20/s06_11772_10.jpg
mih – according to post #98, it seems he is taking it from the QB position.
mih,
I doubt that “pre-processed” is in the bureaucrat-ese dictionary….much less their realm of thought!
I assume the Noke package is pronounced No-Key (2 syllables for you math folks), and not one, like bloke.
And has there been a Nagy sighting?
Homey…KK has my plastic container that has the grilling supplies in it. Not sure if there is any charcoal but should have the tongs, shovel, lighter fluid, lighter, and so on….
Homey,
But if you look at the top of this blog.. it’s described as
“The Warriors today u(n)veiled “The Noke,” a scheme in which running back Inoke Funaki takes the direct snap … /… There’s a twist in the scheme in which quarterback Greg Alexander can curl deeper into the backfield, creating a double-pass option.
Which kind of indicates that he is lined up as an RB.
…I think the charcoal is in the wheelbarrow!
Lava,
Thanks…
So is that Nagy with two syllables as in “na-gee” or one syllable as in ex-wife
homey not to worry I got the grilling supplies and we using the grill at the cabana
wow dat must of been one good hot dog snack to put you out for a couple of hours if only now you getting up 😯
well off to the high school to catch round two of the bball playoffs lattas 😮
mih,
I think you got it right…snap the ball to the RB instead of the QB.
But that leaves one less blocker if the QB stays in the formation….
A-House
Duane Akina is Assistant Head or Associate – one of the two, was Co-Defensive Coordinator in 2007 with Larry MacDuff, LM was released as Co-DC and new DC hired for 2008 Beauchamp, Duane continues in his role as defensive backs coach / Co-Defensive Coordinator.
We need to whisper when talking about the “Noke”. Just in case opponents are reading. We want the “Noke” to be a surprise. Shhhhhhhhhhh. I’ll be talking about new schemes that the coaches didn’t install, just to throw off the opponents who may hear us whispering.
Whoah. Easy MIH.
It seems like our future is going to be bright. stut2 is very good and very well polished. does not seem like a h.s. senior! hope they redshirt him! then we have 4 years of him.
#2 is pretty darn good too. looks like he will be in the mix.
missed #18 out there today. he is the #1 corner in my book.
Howzit Pride.!
Howzabout dat Muddle Huddle, eh? 😉
Muddle Huddle worked to perfection in today’s practice.
Garrets Mock Draft with A-house’s re: on post # 93- for Colt being reunited with his receiver corp and the Niners.
This would be the ultimate Wet Dream. i.e Hawaii’s Get Wet situation.
My 49’ers excitment from the 80’s would be more exciting and colorful than hanging on Haight Ashbury st. in the 60’s.
Thanks for the moment
mih – I guess there are variations of the Noke since 2 people may have seen it run differently. Come game time I’ll look out for the play and yell “NOKE, NOKE”. That should wake Koakane up.
The Pistol looked good today also. Offense is perfect for LWJ.
homey,
Jus’ be careful he no wake up and try give you a “noogie” 🙄
Rob25,
I’m sorry, but I will not be able to attend the KK after all. Work calls me away again.
Lefty said he’ll still go and do his 80s music marathon….
Pride.,
Although they just implementing it, the Elephant set with Heun at TB should be devastating once the timing comes around! 😛
D1. I like that short yardage offense that they unveiled today. They ran a power-I with Huen and Brashton as the up-backs and Rego as the tailback. Coaches said that they will also put Pilares at the tail and have him jump over the top in goal-line situations.
We need some C/W (both kinds!) at the KK…hope L10PC shows up!
D1, we must have went to the same practice, I didn’t see you. You must have been up by the dorms.
shoyu noke, hokey poke, oke dokey, muddle huddle, curly shuffle, whatevahs as long as the ball moves north and south, homey shows up to cook all’s good.
Please.. just don’t do the Hula-T. Or whatever it was called back then.;-)
With the stable of running backs I can’t wait to see the wishbone. Run blocking, yeah babee!
…or howabout that play-action to Mahaley coming outta the H-Back position?
Meeee-an!
Garness’s dad is coming in from Alaska for Satruday’s Spring Game. Wonder if that flight goes straight North and South?
d1 I not worried when I do get up Homey is already at home asleep cause he no can stay afta 6 anyway.
Pride.,
I was hiding behind DPK’s tree…..
…..I showered after practice. 🙄
Aww shucks, what’s a KK without chawan…did you come to the last one?
Is it “legal” for a RB to run-on-top-of OL to reach the goal line?
Reason, it is illegal for a defender to jump onto the back(s) of the DL to block FGs or PATs. Last year, Tua was called for a 15-yard penalty for “leaning” on the back of a defensive player.
mih,
IIRC the Hula-T was developed using a computer.
At the time of its development all the UH computers ran on those IBM cards….legend has it that one particular individual was in charge of securing those cards.
Alas! after one night of excessive celebration, the cards were found strewn across the floor in Klum Gym then hastily gathered and returned to The Coach for game-planning prior to the season opener against Texas A & I….the rest is history.
That individual shall remain nameless but will be celebrating retirement soon from our educational system 😯
heheheh
Good question A-House.
I like guys on both teams. Now I’m not sure which side of the stadium to sit, the mauka or makai.
I thought that play was illegal. That one from Wagner’s era anyway.
Not sure of the lyrics but this is my favorite country western song:
Way out west (way out west)
The story told (the story told)
‘Bout a bunch of cattle
Tiny and bold (tiny and bold)
Ridin’ tall (ridin tall)
Tall in the saddle
Hurdin’ cow the size of schnauzers but they’re cattle.
YIPEE-YA-YEH mini sirlon burgers…
YIPEE-YI-YO mini sirlon burgers…
YIPEE-YI-YEH MINI SIRLON BURRRGERRRRSSSS!!!!!
Pride. – Sit in the shade.
Homey, was that you in the commercial?
Pride. – Exactly what my daughter asked me!
@Homie
Pretty dead on the lyrics, except it’s actually bunch of “cowboys” in line 3…love the song!…Hyah!
hapahaoleboy – Thanks for the correction. All I could think of was those small cows. hahahaha
is that a typo or has brett leonard been moved to d-line?
I’ll take the Makai and the points.
Hmm.. looks to me like the stronger offense goes to Cal’s team while the stronger defense is in Ron’s team.
Coach Cal & the Mauka team has a lot of talent.
Homey, you take makai and the shade is what you mean right?
Pride. – Yep. You know fair skinned people like me burn easily.
Oops #64 s/b koakane, not kekoa.
I have 2 things on P&P Sat to listen for. First is Linda (Vili’s wife) with Amemiya to promote All Poly Football camp. I’ll ask Linda to shout out to Tsaiko’s if she can.
Second is Anuhea. I think both of them around around the 10am hour.
Unusual for me to not be on stage. I’m kinda liking this new hat I’m wearing.
I hope Koakane doesn’t forget his radio.
Let’s not forget about the A 11 offense that they’ve been working on… That should be really hard to stop.
If we’re bringing all those plays back…I guess we all better start practicing our “Green-Machine” chant…
mih-
Yep. It never hurts to be prepared.
Questions:
If they know that the “noke” is in play when Inoke is in and that the postol is being operated when LWJ is in, and they’re jumping when Pilares is in, how soon do you think the opponent’s d-coordinators would wise up to the fact that they just need to defense up against a predictable offense?
No forget the secret hand signal to run the “Noke”… left hand held vertical over the nose.. right hand making the poke eye gesture…
wait a minute!
is brett leonard really gonna play DL for the warrior bowl or is that a typo?
I’m curious as to how they split the teams up. Who or how did they decide who was on which team?
DPK,
The NCAA already stopped the A-11.
…but Green Machine sounds good 🙂
homey,
yeah i was there. i was commenting on you and koakane’s mandoo. you guys said it took 3 days to make.
c_c . . .
Okay, I think most people here know what you are talking about when you say “. . . you and koakane’s mandoo”. But, still, it just does not look or sound right.
Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
So, they’re developing a jumbo package for short yardage eh?? Good to hear….
Homey…KK needs to bring his radio..and if it rains Friday, as predicted, he also needs to bring his blower…for the water…..LOL
Brett Leonard on the D-line ???
Yep, I noticed that too, post #171.
So is Mack clever enough to use Tsai and the Tsaikos to deliberately stir up discussion of the “Noke” package on the blog and message boards, giving WAC defensive coordinators additional work over the summer trying to prepare for the “Noke”? hmmmm.
au’wyrte back from the hs bball game….PC ten run Kalani with grand salami bottom of 6th. was close game till the 3rd but kpitcher made bad decision added to poor execution. game went down hill from there. tomorrow Moanalua plays PC.
will bring radio and blower if raining but if flooding homey bring both of your boards or pride might have to ship in a container. jj come early to cook and set up tent plus I need you to pick up something for me from Kam bakery sat morning.
KK…we go early den…like 7:30…if I’m gonna pick up stuff from Kam Bakery….plus, if I have to leave for work…..well, you know….we shall see though…
Pride:
Not sure if there’s a strategy, but he does read this blog.
no matta will be there any time, you make the call. homey you in?
51 players on each team which makes it very important for each player to showcase themselves as a player (both individually and team). If there only 105 that coach mc can invite to the start of fall camp, this game is going to be interesting because he has to make room for the other 20+ new players at the start of fall camp. my best to all the players.
to all the tsaikos attending the game on sat, have fun and enjoy our 2009 edition of warrior football. won’t be able to attend cause i promised to help kyeton’s jr golf program raise some money for their program on sunday morning (very early, so no darkside sat night).
185!
Good night all!!!
Watching “Life in These Isalnds”.
Al ~ No need record the program, just ask me, I’ll tell you all about it at the T-gate. No, try wait…Koakane can tell you his version 1st, I’ll translate.
Kahai is on “Makai” team. Typo inadvertently left his name off. Brett Leonard is also not DL.
Props to the OL!
Whitey ~ How can I help with the fund raising for Keyton’s Golf program?
Is there a chance that you may put your Spaceship up for auction?
d1 actually had a great inside dope. UH kept practicing the fly sweep. But then it didn’t use it early. After that, it was used only with Mouton, which was the giveaway. UH doesn’t even practice it anymore.
Right on Nalani! Your message is heard Loud & Clear! Mahalo for you and the group for sharing your music with us.

The Future:
Nice post……………………
Life in These Islands one of the better programs I’ve seen in a very long time….thank you to whomever produced it….
It is sad how some people downgrade QBs, but at least they are consistent and put down the BCS Texas Tech just as much as they put down UH.
It looks like the BCS might adopt pieces of the MWC’s proposed changes. Is it really better to have a 12-person committee (who could be stacked towards the BCS conferences) instead of the polls and computers?
First a player goes to Europe to play after finishing high school instead of going to college…now a San Diego high school student will skip his senior year to play pro basketball in Europe.
If Kahai and Brett Leonard are on the OL for the Makai team (thank you to Nalani for the info!), then Makai has 13 OL and Mauka has 9. Less reps for the Makai OL I guess.
It looks like Cal probably got the bulk of the starters at the offensive skill positions, plus 3 of the current OL starters.

For 5 years people in Brazil have been hacking into US military satellite transponders to use as ham radios (truck drivers), send coded warnings (rogue loggers in the Amazon), or to coordinate operations (drug dealers and organized crime groups). This means that when a US soldier needs to make an emergency call, the frequency he wants to use can be taken over by random people from Brazil or other countries.

Shortly after the last game of the season I remember reading the coach saying he’ll be fixing the things that need to be fixed during the off season. And like most other teams there’s no finer time in doing this than during 15 days of spring practices. This is a given.
Now excuse me for bringing this up. But didn’t the coach say we need to be practicing our special teams, clock management, the two minute drill, tweaking the offense and putting in new wrinkles, shoring up the offensive line and improving on being less penalized. And on the eve of their last spring practice before the scrimmage I’ve haven’t heard too much about any of the above problems being worked on aside from today’s introduction of a new wrinkle to the offense, the “noke shuffle”. And this is sad. No, no… not the “noke shuffle but the inattentiveness of what needed to be corrected.
Again, excuse me. But I’ve looked everywhere and elsewhere for every tidbit coming out of the Warrior practices on different blogs and other sources and I haven’t heard anything about the Warriors so much as practicing the kicking game, two minute drill or clock management in any game-like conditions during the spring. And you would’ve thought they would have.
After all… these aren’t phantom problems. Or small ones, either. And these are problems the coach said that he’d be addressing. Which leaves me befuddled because I haven’t seen, too, much where they have. Now who knows maybe it just hasn’t been reported. Or maybe under the cover of Klum gym part of the team is practicing the kicking game. And nobody knows about it. And there was nothing to be worried about after all.. Wouldn’t that have been neat. And I wouldn’t be so incensed at the path the team is taking.
But I am. Because my hunches tell me once again the team, as far as spring practices went, were overlooking the problems that needed to be addressed.
And it makes me want to cry, because I want so much for the Warrior’s to do well.
It leaves me so dishearten to no end when I read about how the other teams are feverishly practicing the phases of the game–that the Warrior’s seemingly didn’t during the spring practices.
I may miss the game sat because it is my last day of class for my adult ed class. I will start the class in the morning and let the students out at noon and try to make the game…Hope to see you folks there. Will miss the t gate….
Good night to you all….Hope the rain ends before the the game…After this class, I am free from work for they will not let me work for a year…So I will quit work and retire so that I can do all the good things you folks out there is doing….
I think he must take some preventive measure. Safety should be first priority.
has brett leonard switched from oline to dline?
whoops it’s been asked like 5 times already
kekoa, it is their annual jr golf tournament, so it no only helps kyeton, but all the jr golfers on maui. my space craft will not be auctioned, but will be stored till sun am.
Garret,
Did you post links regarding the Cassini Equinox Mission already? I was surprised to see that it was still operating flawlessly two years after it’s initial mission and sending back pics of Saturn.

nalani, glad to hear that kahai is playing. was looking for his name.
kekoa, sorry about getting back to you late, but forgot and had to go to class reunion mtg in kahului. dang, class reunion number is almost going be older than me.
the spring game looks like it will be a winner. there is going to be some dinging, danging, boinging, etc, but hopefully all the players will have had a chance to show what they can do and come out of the game with minimal injuries
Whitey ~ No problem. Glad to hear the spaceship will only be deactivated and not put up for auction. Too bad you can’t do a pass over the stadium for the Warrior Bowl.
Keep us posted on the Golf Tourney!
Kaha’i is certainly giving it a 110% effort this season. I wish him well.
roysan16: I think part of the problem with clock management is that it’s hard to simulate game-time situations. What are you doing to do at practice, sequester the booth coaches on the hill (or in the stands), and the others on the sideline, then have them work on game calls and whatnot using their headsets (or cell phones, maybe, I’m not sure if those headsets can work out there)? Much easier done at Aloha Stadium, but they don’t get to practice there too often. I’m hoping they get to do a little of that kind of communication stuff there this Saturday, but then again, I’m guessing the coaching staffs are split, too.
I’d like to see them practice that kind of stuff before everything starts; I know Mack is signing autographs from 1 to 2, so maybe in the next hour the coaches can get together and simulate how they will communicate and work together between the sidelines and the booth upstairs. That was sorely lacking last year, and I think that hurt us. Miano is a key guy there too, cause he’s doing so much as the associate head coach, but he can’t forget his DBs too.
I also think the coaches need to work with the players to better organize themselves during the game; during the scrimmage on Saturday, I saw two QBs all the way down the sideline, with another two in the middle, none of them near their QB coach. It’s not Rolo’s job to coach only the guy in the game, it’s his job to coach them all. The players and coaches need to work together so that they are unified as units. That’s another thing I hope they work on and discuss on Saturday.
Jason,
Every where else I read, like UCLA, USC, Washington, Florida and even Nevada, the team’s coaches devote a lot of their spring practices to the special teams, 2 minute drills and simulated game situations, where the team’s practice clock management scenarios.
Here with the Warriors not too much.
Nevada, for example, I’ve read where a columnists wrote that the Nevada team practiced the special team’s play more than ever before.
Same with Washington.
Florida I remembered the tv announcer saying they practiced a fake punt play 78 times during the spring.
And then, here, not too much.
Too many people make excuses for the coach, and that isn’t remedial at all. IMHO.
Nalani, please wish Anuhea luck in her Shack debut on Saturday night.
May 4, Monday, is the wahine basketball banquet at the Willows…..$50 per and Hashiro is coordinating…He was a new hire as team director of operations this season. I wonder if e bolla is attending….
Garrett #200: Sorry my mistake. Kahai is on Mauka team w Noke.
roysan16: And I don’t disagree with you, I was just adding on my thoughts on the clock management part. There were challenges from the fact that we had some new people thrust into the fire, and some older guys but in new positions that they hadn’t been in before. It’s not like clock management comes magically. So I believe there were circumstances that hampered our ability to successfully manage the clock last year. I’m hoping they are able to overcome those circumstances this year and eliminate them.
That said, I too wish they would practice that kind of stuff more as well. Then again, they’ll probably install more of that stuff in the fall; right now, it’s more for scouting and installing the basics so that the players can work on those things in their unsupervised workouts.
If they kick butt early in the game they don’t need a 2-minute offense 😉
Good evening all!
I was chatting with Symonds today and said that he got new kicking shoes from UA and he loves them. He also said that 2009 is going to be a great season for the team!! Good to hear such positive vibes from him.
He also told me thanks for the encouragement because it definitely helps!
GO WARRIORS!!
Why can’t it be Saturday already?!
Chawan –
I’m disappointed that you won’t be there at the KK, but understand…duty calls sometimes.
Don’t let anyone tell you that work is a lame excuse!! 👿

G’nite Tsaikos! Stay dry tomorrow!! 😯
One thing I don’t want to see-
a predictable offense. Colt got plastered at the SB because UGA knew the offense and put a target on CB15’s head.
I’m hoping the same thing is NOT going to happen every time Inoke hits the field and the offense mixes it up.
Nitey nite and SWEET Warrior Dreams!
Howzit Tsaikos! and good night.
Esme and out.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I have been called a dope both inside and outside….
LizK,
No need worry about predictable offense…jus’ let me and Pride. work on the playbook for little while 😉
(Eh, we managed to trow da fake on (J)J earlier today. heheheh)
i thought it was reported that some time was spent on special teams concepts this spring.
we don’t have a punter in camp until the fall.
an invited walkon kicker is also due in the fall.
we don’t know who will be on special teams just yet until the starters have been determined, who will redshirt, greyshirt, yada, yada, yada.
i am sure that coach tormey will demand more time in this respect. part of our problems on special teams last year had to do with the concepts, plays, alignment and assignment. it had nothing to do with lack of practice time.
our so called two minute drills will get better. i think this year ron lee will be given complete reign over play calling. we also know who our qb will be and that qb has a better idea of what we are doing.
many don’t realize that colt stumbled through his first year at the helm. didn’t we go 5-7 that year?
patience my friend. after all they say rome wasn’t built in a day.
okay….so which tsaiko is the inside dope?
muddle huddle was dick tomey’s thing.
i must say it made for some fun times.
the best trick play ever has to be the old “fumblerooski” which has now been banned.
Hurrrryyy.. to green team and black team. “The Noke”; Warrior Bowl rosters
A fine day to everyone!
Looking forward to reports from the TGate and scrimmage this Saturday!
Whoo-hoo!!! Getting closer!!!
A belated Administrative Assistant/Office Professional/Secretary Day and Week!
April is also Frog Month.
Weird. Are we supposed to celebrate the French, the animal, or their legs?
TIme to get to school. Tsigh.
Good Morning Everyone! Hope everyone has a good Thursday. It’s one more day closer to the weekend.
good morning tsaikos.
Soggy Thursday Tsaiko Villagers!
Practice your ‘Noke’ moves today as you dodge raindrops.
Homes ~ Tie those party balloons to your wrist just in case you step into a puddle.
Whoa! New post up!
I am starting the official “Hurricane Inoke” nickname campaign. It gained a little support last year but with the QB shuffle it suffered a quiet death. Now that Greg “Man Bear” Alexander is at the helm, Hurricane Inoke is set to do some damage at running back.
All hail the Hurricane.
Is it a perspective or strategy?
It is complicate but not very much tough.
It is complicated but not very much tough.
But I don’t think it was a time to veiled the things
