Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a time for family, food, fun and football.

OK, OK, it’s like that every day here.

Wishing all of you a great one.

* * * * *

Really lively practice today.

There were full-speed drills. And in a good news/not-so-good news situation, Kenton Chun’s FG attempt was blocked. But it was blocked by John Hardy-Tuliau, so he’s good to go.

And the jack-of-all-trades, George Lumpkin, was shooting videos. Video coordinator Chris Williams is on personal leave.

Pretty cool. Hmmmm. Now I can sleep at night.

    Uhhhh, meant Thanksgiving!!!

  12. chopsueyboy November 24, 2011 7:11 am

    Happy Thanksgiving Tsai-ko Nation!

  13. Stephen Tsai November 24, 2011 7:15 am

By the way, pretty good article today from Ferd.

He reports the accusatory letter was hand-writting, rambling and not containing anything specific or meaningful.

Which really supports the belief it wasn’t sent from a disgruntled gambler. Gamblers are smart enough to know if something is fishy, then just bet the other side to negate the original bet. It would be like playing black and red at the roulette wheel. (Of course, I know somebody who did that to be funny and it came up green 00.)

  14. Wes'side Warrior November 24, 2011 7:17 am

    Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

And have a safe and sane Black Friday, whether you start tonight or tomorrow, or just stay home out of the madness.

  15. Wes'side Warrior November 24, 2011 7:21 am

LOL, ST! I did that when in the Army, on a trip up to Reno! Played $20 black AND $20 red… just to say that I played Roulette and broke even. 0Green popped up, and I walked away in disbelief. One lady won, but I wasn’t paying attention.

  16. Wes'side Warrior November 24, 2011 7:26 am

Funny, it was on that same trip that an Army buddy said I could crash with him over the weekend at his grandmother’s house. When she came to pick us up, she didn’t know I was coming along. She told him to tell me I wasn’t welcome! Unreal! I was standing right there in front of her, and she told him to tell me! She didn’t know I wasn’t haole. Unreal! And after hearing her tell him that, I didn’t want to go anyways.

  17. Wes'side Warrior November 24, 2011 7:30 am

I often reflect back on the year, of events that transpired up to Thanksgiving. Thought it kinda weird that from summer, we’ve had such a difficult time getting all starters to practice together for a whole week. We started out even before our first game missing people due to leg and foot injuries, and it seemed to snowball from there.

Again, not making excuses, just reflecting back on what a trying season this has been so far.

Thankful that our Warriors don’t quit.

    Go, Warriors! Finish strong!!!

  18. d1shima November 24, 2011 7:36 am

    Great Thanksgiving Morning All!

If you are in the Best Buy Black Friday line, I’ve been eyeing the 4G Android phones with mobile hotspot capability….

    😉

  19. jm2375 (Infuse) November 24, 2011 7:37 am

Happy Thanksgiving to all in Tsaiko-land!! Enjoy the long weekend.

ST – too bad you can’t lockout only certain people.

  20. d1shima November 24, 2011 7:38 am

Can you turn on the handwritten posting requirement for blog comments? 😈

  21. Bowwar November 24, 2011 7:58 am

The bird is in the oven and it’s time to roll…back into bed.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  22. AlaWai November 24, 2011 8:20 am

Too bad I can’t watch the SFO v. BAL brother to brother game. No mo NFL channel and no disk or Direct TV. Must complain to Oceanic again.

  23. gmahoney November 24, 2011 8:21 am

Trying out an electric roaster this year, my turkey just went mobile.

  24. Wes'side Warrior November 24, 2011 8:21 am

By the way, pretty good article today from Ferd.

He reports the accusatory letter was hand-writting, rambling and not containing anything specific or meaningful.

Reminds me of “Criminal Minds,” where they purposely piss off the bad guy so he reacts and lets his guard down and gets caught. Hahaha!

  25. Wes'side Warrior November 24, 2011 8:22 am

And a Happy Thanksgiving to you and your ‘ohana (and the gang in Michigan too), GmaHoney!

  26. 808Bowler November 24, 2011 8:23 am

    Happy Thanksgiving everybody.

  27. AlaWai November 24, 2011 8:25 am

That’s my rant for the day.

I am thankful for family, friends and living in the best place God created in the world. I am grateful for the Warrior memories and the efforts of the present team and coaches.

I wish the Warriors a most Happy Thanksgiving and a blessed day. Coach Mac, there are still a lot of peeps that support you in your sincere efforts to shape these young men’s lives. Thank you for your manao!

  28. gmahoney November 24, 2011 8:29 am

And to you, WW! Best wishes and Happy Thanksgiving to your lovely wife, keiki and especially my pal, Freddie Boy!

  31. Da Punchbowl Kid November 24, 2011 8:35 am

    Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂

Happy Turkey Day to one and all.

Hey bp! Have a good one bro.

Wes’side, you can meet us at my brothers place. We have a U.N. kinda crowd there. Lotsa biru and shots too! And he’s got a very, quiet cool lanai with water lilies where an over indulged person or two can sleep things off.

  32. Old Diver November 24, 2011 8:37 am

“He reports the accusatory letter was hand-writting, rambling and not containing anything specific or meaningful.” Looks like we can narrow the letter writer down to a disgruntled politician. 🙂

  33. El Las Vegaso November 24, 2011 8:38 am

Happy Thanksgiving to all in Tsaiko land!!

Hop you all enjoy and choke(just a little bit) on your turkeys

i’ll be home alone watching football wearing just my puka bibidees and eating

    cup ramen (chicken flavor)

  34. Da Punchbowl Kid November 24, 2011 8:39 am

    gmahoney-

Mobile turkey? There’s gotta be an app for that! 😆

BTW, Mobile Turkey is what I look like on my walks.

  35. El Las Vegaso November 24, 2011 8:41 am

“He reports the accusatory letter was hand-writting, rambling and not containing anything specific or meaningful.”

Actually sounds like one of Ferd’s articles before Curtis cleans it up

  36. Da Punchbowl Kid November 24, 2011 8:41 am

    #33 –

I usually choke a few times anyway, but I’ll make a special effort just for you.

  37. madeinhawaii November 24, 2011 8:42 am

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

  38. CoolEthan November 24, 2011 8:43 am

This day is need for selflessness – and the blessings that come with it – The outer ring of bitterness is overshadowed by greatness. Let this greatness shine on this thankgiving and be compasionate to all that share our lives and beyond that circle. God’s standard lasts an eternity. At the end of the day, His is what matters. Support the faith, Support the family, and Support our troops. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Coaches and players unite. Warriors gonna get this game.

  39. El Las Vegaso November 24, 2011 8:45 am

DPK, just a little one is fine.

The collective choking of a thousand Tsaikos will

transend the cosmos and manifest itself into positive energy

in the form of a fried turkey leg on my dinner table

  40. Kekoa November 24, 2011 8:47 am

    That’s Cool…Ethan.

  41. gmahoney November 24, 2011 8:48 am

Happy Turkey Day, DPK! Will we see you at a TGate soon?

  42. Dennis Halloran November 24, 2011 8:50 am

Thank ful for my great life and the 4 F’s

Best Wishes to my 93 year old Uncle Don on his birthday. Not a lot of survivirs of ww2 who flew bombers in both the European theater and the Pacific

  43. El Las Vegaso November 24, 2011 8:52 am

    Kekoa,

Once again Mahalo for the lamp!

Inspite of the bitterness from Mrs LV and her minions (dogs)

It has a place of honor on MY side of the bed

  44. iwonderwhytheyhateme November 24, 2011 8:54 am

    Happy Thanksgiving!!!

  45. Da Punchbowl Kid November 24, 2011 8:54 am

“He reports the accusatory letter was hand-writting, rambling and not containing anything specific or meaningful.”

As I said on yesterblog, all we need to do is find an otter with the means and motivation. Otters are notorious for having a rambling, non-specific writitng styles.

  46. El Las Vegaso November 24, 2011 8:57 am

    #45, can’t be an otter

    paper was not wet

  47. NaKoaMike November 24, 2011 8:57 am

We think of our families often during the holidays. And one family has been associated with University of Hawaii football for more than 75 years…the Kaulukukui Family. This week’s Na Koa Member Spotlight comes from Scott Kaulukukui, who is also the 2011 President of the Na Koa Football Club. From our family to yours…Happy Thanksgiving!

  48. wafan November 24, 2011 9:02 am

Maybe the otter is an unknown relative species of the land shark.

  49. CoolEthan November 24, 2011 9:02 am

    Kekoa. Thank you.

Regarding our troops on this Thanksgiving, their families have an empty seat at their tables, so we can have ours full.

  50. Da Punchbowl Kid November 24, 2011 9:02 am

    ELV –

Fried turkey leg? Be careful what you wish for, my friend:

    http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2011/11/22/dangers-deep-fried-turkey/

I only post this because at the end of the day, we both know how deeply I care for you.

Trust me, stick with a little choking on some oven roasted bird.

  51. El Las Vegaso November 24, 2011 9:02 am

Walmart has a 51 inch TV for $498

Sears has same model for $499

Maybe, just maybe Santa may visit the Vegaso household this year

    probably not……..tsai…….

  52. Da Punchbowl Kid November 24, 2011 9:05 am

Nice post, Ethan. And a special Happy Thanksgiving to all of our Warriors as well.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  53. El Las Vegaso November 24, 2011 9:11 am

DPK, 5 deaths a year seems to be a cheap price for fried turkey.

However I do pray for the souls of the five bucktoothed, backwards ballcap wearing

semi literate, sorta interbred folks whose last words “Hey! watch me put dat dern turkey in the oil aaaiieeeee!!”

  54. A-House November 24, 2011 9:28 am

A Thanksgiving wish to all Tsaikos near and far. May you have a great day and may you all be blessed with much happiness and good health.

And, remember, in stressful times, patience and understanding will go a long way!

  55. Wes'side Warrior November 24, 2011 9:46 am

    Amen, CoolEthan!

    Mahalo, DPK!

Wafan… is it a new subspecies found? A MegaOtter, perhaps?

Aloha, Kekoa & ‘ohana! (Can’t find the dvd you gave me.)

    Aloha, A-House & ‘ohana!

    Good morning everyone!

A Happy Thanksgiving to all Tsai-kos, Tsaikettes, and lurkers here in Hawaii, the mainland, and scattered throughout the world… at least 2,937 (sock puppets included). 😛

Not sure why that screen name posted… Oops

  61. SteveM November 24, 2011 10:08 am

Normally a quiet and content day on the blog…

….until las vegas, rasu begasu, El Las Vegaso, etc.</b? shows up. You keep using different blog names…that is confusing. 🙄

But Happy Thanksgiving to you, our old blog friend and Bonafide Tsai-ko! …and karaoke enka star, sumotori, sanshin player, Las Vegas tour conductor, bus driver, and Tsaiko-Vegas coordinator, submarine captain…

BTW, why do you only want a 51" TV? Take out $30 more and get a 60". 👿

  62. Jayson November 24, 2011 10:23 am

#22, I switched to DirecTV about a month and a half ago and absolutely love it. No regrets whatsoever, only thing I don’t have is the OC channels, but I go to all the games I want to see in person anyway.

Happy Thanksgiving, especially those serving in the land of small/no PX.

  63. Loa November 24, 2011 10:44 am

    morning gang!

    Happy Thanksgiving Day!

  64. madeinhawaii November 24, 2011 10:46 am

  65. Annoddah Dave November 24, 2011 10:52 am

    ST & Tsaiko Blog Dogs:

    Happy Thanksgiving to all.

  66. empty November 24, 2011 11:11 am

I think they should raise everyones tuition $20 because of the anonymous letter. That way everyone will be out for the person that cost them the extra $20. HaHaHa

  67. jm2375 November 24, 2011 11:13 am

So, do the online Black Friday deals start at 7pm HST? 🙄

    Go Dolphins! Beat dem Cowgirls!

    Just raise the activity fee!

  69. Stephen Tsai November 24, 2011 11:28 am

Yes, SteveM, bigger is always better.

I got cheap in February, and didn’t want to pay $200 more for a 4G.

Try reading the S-A with a 3G. Grrrrr.

  70. RedZone November 24, 2011 11:48 am

When the pros miss field goals they should give the money back.

  71. Jack Flash November 24, 2011 11:49 am

    Happy Thanksgiving Everybody!

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  72. ai-eee-soos November 24, 2011 11:53 am

ST: with Shane practicing at WR, are they giving QB3 reps?

I think QB3 needs reps with the starters, so that they can get used to

hearing his voice/inflection. Otherwise, jump off-side (procedure penalty).

I think QB3 will get some PT in the next two games.

  73. ballpicker November 24, 2011 11:53 am

Thanks DPK, same to you and ur ohana. Unfortunately or fortunately, which ever way you look at it, I have to work this afternoon.

  74. RedZone November 24, 2011 11:54 am

AlaWai I am trying NFL Rewind this year. I can’t watch the games live but they are all archived so that I can watch any game that I want to online later. The game schedule runs from week one all the way to the super bowl. $29.99.

  75. AlaWai November 24, 2011 11:56 am

Mahalo Jayson and RedZone. Happy Thanksgiving.

  76. RedZone November 24, 2011 11:57 am

    Go Warriors.

    Block that kick!!!!!

  77. d1shima November 24, 2011 11:57 am

Nice to read that KChun is back

  78. RedZone November 24, 2011 12:05 pm

  79. d1shima November 24, 2011 12:06 pm

    😆

  80. NYUH November 24, 2011 12:06 pm

Just saw a former UH punter kick to a former UH punt returner, well WR anyway.

  81. Liz Kauai (macbook) November 24, 2011 12:33 pm

    Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

  82. Really November 24, 2011 12:39 pm

“He reports the accusatory letter was hand-writting, rambling and not containing anything specific or meaningful.”

Take away the hand written part and you have a typical McMackin interview…….

Happy Turkey day and I hope you all have lots to be thankful for today.

  83. jm2375 November 24, 2011 12:46 pm

NYUH – #80 – would rather see a certain former UH QB throw it to a certain former UH slotback.

  84. PolyMom November 24, 2011 1:44 pm

Happy Thanksgiving and may the Lord bless you all. Be grateful for what you have. So many around the world suffer. I know one Warrior who is very happy today. He is ready to get his food on. Got to get my butt back to the kitchen. Pray for healing for all the injured Warriors. Pray for them to be able to keep their emotions in check to concentrate. G-d bless you and your families.

  85. bigislandkurt November 24, 2011 1:54 pm

Sending thanksgiving blessings from the Big Island! Give thanks.

  86. Kekoa November 24, 2011 2:16 pm

BIK ~ Turkey Day Blessings back at ‘cha my friend! Hope you and the fam are enjoying the feast of the season. I would suggest a seperate training table for the baby bull, but I have a feeling he already has one. ((Hugs to small girl and mama))

Ok…heading over to my nephews for some Kalua Turkey. I’ll bet we were not the only ones to have Kailua HS put a coupla birds in da Imu for us. I hope the Warrior team is stuffed with Turkey and all the trimmings today as well.

    Happy Thanksgiving Tsaiko’s!

  87. al November 24, 2011 2:16 pm

okay…happy thanksgiving folks. be thankful for what blessings that has been bestowed upon you and your family. it is not by accident.

it is our tradition to have each person, about 30, go around the horn telling of what they are most thankful for and then we have grace and the feast begins.

    God bless you all.

  88. iwonderwhytheyhateme November 24, 2011 2:19 pm

    Wes’side:

    We are fine!

Wishing you and your entire family a Happy Thanksgiving and keep warm – that Georgia winter can get cold, but not as bad as Michigan!!!

  91. AlaWai November 24, 2011 3:10 pm

FYI, last night in Waikiki there were many Service warriors that just returned from deployment in Afghanistan. Young men some barely 21, far from home, lonely and out with their buddies. A little drunk, a little boisterous, but happy to be home. I thanked them sincerely and shook their hands. So polite with “Yes, Sir. Yes M’am. I am thankful to be an American, free to speak my mind and free to pursue a life of happiness. I am proud and thankful for the young men and women who put their lives on the line, so we can be who we are. Happy Thanksgiving to all who serve and have served.

  92. Stephen Tsai November 24, 2011 3:46 pm

    ai-ee:

Cayman Shutter has been getting some reps.

    They like him.

    He’s a really likeable guy.

I must say that Moniz, Austin, Graves and Shutter are really witty.

Higgins is more of the serious type.

    Godfrey says some deep things.

    Spain is very pleasant.

So, for purposes of interviews (excluding Moniz, because of the injuries), the best to go to are:

    1) Shutter.

    2) Austin

    3) Graves

If Moniz were healthy, he would be No. 1. The only QB I’ve covered who had more wit was Rolovich.

  93. Stephen Tsai November 24, 2011 3:50 pm

The best players to interview after games are the offensive linemen. They always know what’s going on, and they say insightful stuff.

One day, I figured out Manley Kanoa was a great guy to interview. But I let it slip, and Ferd started to glom onto him. There are a couple of guys on the line who always provide great insight, but now I’ve learned not to tell others. What can I say? I’m seflish.

  94. Stephen Tsai November 24, 2011 3:57 pm

While exploring, I found a function in which a copy of every comment can be sent to everyone who has ever posted here.

So if we get, say, 500 comments (included unfiltered spam), each one of those comments would show up in John Smith’s in box as a separate e-mail.

It’s the equivalent of the doomsday button.

OK, now I’m just drunk with power. It must be the tryptophan.

  95. Wes'side Warrior November 24, 2011 4:10 pm

And thank you, ST, for keeping the Warrior Beat going for us, despite everything! I’ve made lots of great friends because of you!

  96. jm2375 November 24, 2011 4:13 pm

ST – there was an ad for an 80″ LED TV. 🙄 😆

  97. Shoko November 24, 2011 4:14 pm

I hope the Warriors can run up the score against Tulane so the other QB’s can get some PT. I would like to see them in action so I can assess the talent at the one spot.

  98. Shoko November 24, 2011 4:19 pm

I’m full. Feel like puking. So I can eat again. 😉

  99. madeinhawaii November 24, 2011 4:20 pm

80″ !…. how far back do you have to sit to really enjoy that one? What if it were 3D?

  103. NYUH November 24, 2011 5:41 pm

  104. wafan November 24, 2011 5:45 pm

    Mr. Tsai, your #94 . . .

That would be cool if you were able to select a particular address or two or three.

Since he is so lonesome he might enjoy the attention of a few more thousand messages from friends.Ev.Er.Y.Day.For.Ev.er.

Please do not pick me. Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!

I wish Time Warner and the NFL would reach an agreement. I’m sure Time Warner can spare a channel. And I can’t believe the NFL would only put certain games on the dish.

  107. Stephen Tsai November 24, 2011 6:36 pm

The NFL Network’s carriage fee is 80 cents per month per subscriber.

I think we can afford the extra $9.60 a year to get the NFL Network on cable.

  108. A-House November 24, 2011 6:55 pm

    #107:

sounds like when Oceanic went to the PUC seeking permission to provide the Disney channel to all subscribers for $1/month which the PUC board was grinning year to year. Great deal!!!

I heard that Oceanic had only a few thousand Disney subscribers and not making $$ by charging $5/month.

Now, they get more $$$ from the hundred of thousand subscribers by charging only $1/month per customer! Pure profit from a good presentation before the PUC commission.

  109. A-House November 24, 2011 6:56 pm

year to year??? what the hell! ear to ear, dummy!!!

Good evening, Tsaikos and Tsaikettes, Lurkers and Lurkettes!

I am thankful for many many things, couple of which include having Warrior Football and Tsai-kos in my life, thru good and not so good, and are all such wonderful blessings in my life.

ST – As always, thank you for being who you are – for the terrific Tsaimeister blog dad that you are – and for providing a safe secure place for our crazee :mr green: UH Warrior Fan Tsai-ko Family.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all! Hope you all had lots off yummy things to eat and that you enjoyed the day.

When it comes down to it — I love you all! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day meal(s). A few of the players came to eat turkey with me & my Mom. It was nice having young people in da hale.

Wish we could have gotten the Niners game. Dang!

No Black Friday shopping for me…more for you… 🙂

  117. bigislandkurt November 24, 2011 10:48 pm

    @ 108 A House…

I think it was Tsai a few years back who suggested for Oceanic to charge every subscriber another 3-5 bucks per month so that all UH sports could be shown…free as part of the package. Goodbye PPV. UH would still get their money and UH football would have a wider broadcast audience. tons more exposure than they currently enjoy. Sure, it may affect the stadium turnstiles but winning could solve all that.

    BIK

  118. Slugger November 24, 2011 10:56 pm

    BIK,

If the MWC tv package doesn’t work for us, do you think you suggestion above would be a way around it? Or would the MWC want a cut, or forbid UH to enter into an agreement like that with Oceanic? I don’t remember all of the details of the TV portion of the conference. And my mind is full of Thanksgiving stuffing… 😀 gobble gobble

  119. chawan_cut November 24, 2011 11:08 pm

  122. Capitolist/WassupDoc November 25, 2011 12:44 am

DrDoc and I wound up at The Shack in Kailua watching the 49ers-Ravens game because of all the chorework around the house. My T-Giving meal consisted of french fries and deep-fried onion rings which should keep me full for at least two more days.

Great watch at Murphy’s yesterday seeing Na Wahine win their final WAC title. We got our NCAA Regional tickets in the mail on Tuesday – games are 5 pm and 7 pm on Friday, December 9, and 7 pm on Saturday, December 10.

What a great opportunity to see four of the top sixteen teams in the 2011 season. Unfortunately, a certain person missed the order deadline so we lost our fantabulous regular season ticket seats. Grrrr!

We’ll be bringing something main dish to Saturday’s Post T-Gate since we won’t be arriving on site until close to 5 pm because of the Wahine basketball tournament early Saturday afternoon.

No one took me up on our offer for free tickets to tomorrow night’s basketball double-header so I’ll just give them away outside The Stan.

Good luck to our teams – men’s & women’s basektball, football, women’s volleyball.

Went buffet for T-day dinner because mom had to work [retail ya know] late on Wed and very early on Friday. We had some of the best Thanksgiving table conversation ever because no friends, neighbors, and other relatives to accomodate … schweet. Thankful for all the Tsaikos and Warrior supporters … and ESPN3 for allowing us to continue to follow the Warriors from N’west Florida.

Does anyone get a slight feeling of compasion when wondering what Jeff Ulbrich is thinking while watching the 49ers. He was the consumate ‘9er but the rest of the world will never know it because he labored in obscurity on a series of under-performing ‘9er teams. On the other hand, how great does Samson Satele feel about being in Oakland vs. Miami. I am thankful for both Jeff and Samson being Warrior alumns.

  147. Kevin November 25, 2011 7:59 am

I do not celebrate Thanksgiving or Christmas.

We have adopted the holiday of FESTIVUS.

If you are NOT familiar with FESTIUVS:

Last night prior to dinner was the tradition of the “airing of grievances” where we all sit around the table and express our displeasure or issues with each other. It eliminates small talk during dinner.

Then the evening ends with the “feats of strength”. SELF-EXPLANATORY.

Towards what you people call “Christmas”, we repeat the traditions again, but instead of a Christmas tree, there is an aluminum pole.

    😆

Nothing like a good wrestling match after dinner.

  153. CoolEthan November 25, 2011 8:39 am

The one that eats the most and one eats the least at the dinner table would be the premier wrestling match.

Not trying to ignite the argument again, but to all of those who say uniform style etc. make no difference in football, CBS just aired a piece that you should check out. It has proven to make a difference for recruiting and performance (in regards to mobility and flexibility).

Of course, athletic performance trumps all of that, but there are those that say the uniform argument is ridiculous. Not so.

  157. Kevin November 25, 2011 8:48 am

    Strippers use brass poles.

  158. kev-1 November 25, 2011 8:50 am

The benefits of divorced families . . . sure it sucks as a child/teen, but now I get to repeat yesterdays gluttonous eating at my pops house.

Enjoy the leftovers and the football. The holiday season is officially upon us. Break out the elastic pants. Have a good one.
