Looked at the USDOE website, but none of the numbers match up. Coaching staff and scholarship expenses don’t really come close. Although if you take the “other” out of the revenue, then the revenue numbers are close.

Lots of bucks in the Valley. Friend of mine was a Fresno supporter. He paid 3k+ each year for the privilege of having 4 tickets…then he paid for the tickets. Reportedly, farmers do quite well there with the government paying them NOT to grow stuff.

Tom#23….Actually, UH is a good deal. The average in-state tuition for a school in Cali in 2011 was $13,500. UH’s in-state tuition is roughly $4,500. 🙂

Coach Pete is a great football mind and the accolades he receives are well-deserved, but when I read the part about Boise’s “entire recruiting philosophy is based around finding what Petersen calls, “OKGs (Our Kind(a) Guys).”, it reminded me of a Sports Illustrated article a couple years ago that made note of Boise State having as many as 16 players on roster that had police records.

I’m also reminded of a stud player Titus Young whom was drafted in the first round and now finds himself as a free agent roaming the empty streets of Oakland then getting arrested for trying to steal his own car from a police impound lot. Maybe upper campus needs to start acting more like a business. Raise prices to better reflect their costs. Cannot continue with loss-leaders then expect a government bailout.

The arms and legs cannot function efficiently if the head and mind are cluttered. Upper campus cannot see how jumbled they are in their own policies and governance therefore the athletic department cannot operate the way they expect it to unless upper campus cleans up their own act and the rest follows under real leadership or if upper campus gives athletics its own autonomy while cooperating with the AD in charge to allow proper revenue flow from monies generated off athletics like merchandise, campus parking fees for athletic events, and licensing of goods that are based off athletics. This they cannot see due to arrogance.

operating with a non-profit mindset in any capacity is not an ideal option. Following a non-profit notion limits itself to what it can do and depends on/expects some form of assistance.

A for-profit mindset encourages goals of capital increase, reinvestment and independence.

With the continued crawl of a sluggish economy and cutbacks in funding across the board, non-profits today are being encouraged to take on a for-profit mindset and approach to their challenges of survival.

UH doesn’t need managers. UH needs bold leaders with visions to take the school system into a growing and profitable direction. To seek out new ideas and ventures. To boldly go where university has gone before…

Hau’oli la hanau to Rainbow Wahine Softball volunteer coach Dickie Titcomb! The softball program would NOT be where it is today without the generosity and commitment he and his wife Dale have for UH softball. The Titcombs, along with the Antonios, went deep into their own resources to help support the softball program when reaching 100 people in the stands was a monument feat despite the fact that this program has had only TWO losing seasons under Coach Coolen’s 20+ year tenure. Its people like these that make up the soul of the softball program.. the solid backbone of “kokua”.
