Spring is in the air

The Warriors opened spring training today with a team meeting.

There are weight-training sessions tomorrow, with the first spring practice Wednesday. But expect many of the players to work out on their own this afternoon at the Ching Athletic Complex field.

  1. Kekoa March 7, 2011 8:35 am

    Good morning Tsaiko Nation!

  2. Kekoa March 7, 2011 8:36 am

Wow! Numbah wun two days in a row!

  3. cheepono March 7, 2011 8:37 am

work hard guys! looking forward to leaving the WAC, title in hand at the end of the season.

  4. Kekoa March 7, 2011 8:37 am

…and numbah two one day in a row!

  5. ai-eee-soos March 7, 2011 8:40 am

    Yes, it’s football time.

  6. Kekoa March 7, 2011 8:43 am

Cheepono ~ Have you noticed how much harder the fb players have been working? They are doing some very disciplined workouts to better prepare themselves for practice.

    Go Warriors!

  7. ai-eee-soos March 7, 2011 8:44 am

ST: Are you going to post the Linebacker “depth chart” ? It’s missing from your article,

that was pub in yesterday’s paper.

  8. Bowwar March 7, 2011 8:51 am

Yup…I smell those Spring footballs flying already…

  9. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2011 8:53 am

I called Scott M yesterday when somebody told me the “linebackers” were left off the online version. (It’s in the print, by the way, so this is a subscription test.) He was supposed to have added it yesterday. Not sure if he did because, for some reason, I can’t access S-A stories from my laptop.

  10. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2011 8:54 am

Looks like UH is getting closer to finalizing that Big Island game. Probably will start at 10:30 a.m. I know the team is returning to Honolulu on the 4 p.m. flight.

That’s also Senior Night for men’s volleyball.

  11. Stretch March 7, 2011 8:59 am

I guess if you want the LB’s, you have to buy a paper. They can’t give everything away for free…. hahahaha

  12. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2011 9:01 am

I’m not exactly sure what happened. From what I’ve been told, each position was imported separately online. I guess the LBs got left out.

  13. papajoe2 March 7, 2011 9:04 am

I was still blogging on yesterday’s blog. I didn’t realize that the new blog was up. top 20!

  14. papajoe2 March 7, 2011 9:08 am

I don’t know how to transfer my old posts to this one. I would like the Tsaikos opinion about the delay of the WAC schedule since every other conference has theirs completed. They are blaming Fresneck but the SA headline says the teams that are leaving are at fault. How come TEAMS? Is that our fault too or just the Fresnecks?

  15. lil.s March 7, 2011 9:10 am

    15!

  16. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2011 9:11 am

I imagine there should be some program where the WAC punches in each team’s non-conference schedule, then creates the WAC schedule. I mean, don’t Fantasy Football Leagues do that all of the time?

  17. papajoe2 March 7, 2011 9:15 am

Fresness will play San Diego State on Dec.3. What does that have to do with the WAC schedule? Shouldn’t the WAC season be completed by then. What they want to do outside the WAC shouldn’t be too much of a concern for the WAC schedule unless Fresness had their WAC game scheduled on that day. If Fresness wanted a bye before SDS, too bad. Why screw up the whole conference?

  18. NCAA March 7, 2011 9:20 am

Message to Benson: Next time announce the WAC schedule earlier.

  19. papajoe2 March 7, 2011 9:24 am

My take on the schedule is: This is your conference. These dates are reserved for conference games. Whatever you do outside of the reserved conference dates is not our concern. Each team will have a bye within the schedule. If you want to schedule an out of conference game on the your conference bye date, that is your choice. The schedule dates could be made up years in advance with any tweaks being the responsibility of the teams involved, overseen and okay-ed by the WAC. If you do not abide by this decision you will be fined immensely (pre determined, maybe reduce money owed by the conference at the end of the year).

  20. NCAA March 7, 2011 9:29 am

At least this gives the Associate Commissioner something to do. They enjoy playing with post-its and making paper flags of all the WAC schools.

  21. d1shima March 7, 2011 9:31 am

    Top XXV!

  22. d1shima March 7, 2011 9:32 am

    *sniff*sniff*

Oh, it’s the smell of football in the air! 🙂

  23. Da Punchbowl Kid March 7, 2011 9:36 am

    Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂

Top Twenny Five for Tim, Tom and Diogenes on this slow news day.

  24. Da Punchbowl Kid March 7, 2011 9:37 am

Are you sure that aint “new car smell” D1? 😆

  25. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2011 9:40 am

If it’s Nevada and Fresno State holding up the schedule, then give them the least favorable schedules. “Wanna mess with the WAC. Whoops, you’ve got three road games in a row. Sorry about that.”

It should be easy. Probably the only ESPN-marquee-worthy game is UH at Nevada. Schedule that near the end of season, then work backward.

As for UH not turning in its secession papers, it probably won’t do that until it works out the details with the MWC. If the MWC caught wind that UH had no chance to stay in the WAC, there goes the leverage. It will be like Hearts: “OK, UH give your three best players to the team on your left in exchange for that team’s three worst players …”

  26. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2011 9:43 am

It’s not really a slow news day.

But I can’t go to UH today because we’re going to computer-training class.

    New system is coming in.

Or it could be our techs’ way of getting back at blog hosts.

  27. LizKauai m/ March 7, 2011 9:47 am

    Aloha Kakahiaka!

Have a great SPRING PRACTICE day!

And enjoy some Alex Green highlights!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BK0VmrZIGSI

    hiho!

  28. NCAA March 7, 2011 9:47 am

The SA has money for a new computer system and training? They should hire online editors and get a better spell and grammar checker.

  29. LizKauai m/ March 7, 2011 9:47 am

ST – hope some spam filters are included with the new system 😉 jes sayin…

  30. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2011 9:48 am

    I think it’s a page-design system.

  31. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2011 9:49 am

NCAA is mocking my grammar. He doesn’t think I talk good.

  32. Dennis Halloran March 7, 2011 9:52 am

Matt Inman, the State Champion Servite HS and Orange county Defensive MVP, who visited Hawaii. has committed to be a preferred walk on at Nevada He is a high motor 5 foot ten inch 220 lb MLB

  33. d1shima March 7, 2011 9:56 am

I no tink I read good

  34. Dennis Halloran March 7, 2011 9:58 am

OOPs Servite was only Pac 5 Champ this year, state Champ last year

  35. NCAA March 7, 2011 9:59 am

Hawaii already have 5’10”-ish 220 lb’ish linebackers. But we wouldn’t know it from the online edition.

  36. d1shima March 7, 2011 10:00 am

Didn’t Benson say the verbal notice was sufficient? Doesn’t that push UH beyond the point of no return?

  37. d1shima March 7, 2011 10:01 am

    Grammar checker 🙄

  38. tommui March 7, 2011 10:02 am

    Morning Hawaii!

Also top 35 mention for Tim.

Went to the softball game wanted to see what my 2-cents was supporting. Besides Pomai and Kazz were good enough to give me a season’s pass.

  39. NCAA March 7, 2011 10:02 am

Good morning Mr. d1shima. Would you know if UH also gave a verbal notice to the other members of the WAC?

  40. d1shima March 7, 2011 10:02 am

    DPK,

    Howzit!

I try using that one but people still respond with that “wrinkled nose” look. 😈

  41. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2011 10:02 am

There always seems to be hope that UH will have taller linebackers. Then they end up going to defensive end. Hope Aulola Tonga and Brenden Daley stick at linebacker.

  42. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2011 10:04 am

The other WAC schools know that UH is leaving. One, in particular, is really annoyed.

  43. d1shima March 7, 2011 10:06 am

    NCAA,

    No

  44. NCAA March 7, 2011 10:08 am

Congratulations to Parnaby. Heal up that elbow.

Ferd is getting a lot of hate love for his column.

  45. HawaiiMongoose March 7, 2011 10:11 am

I’m guessing the only school that would be really annoyed at UH leaving is SJSU since it leaves them without a travel partner and pretty isolated as the westernmost member of the conference.

  46. HawaiiMongoose March 7, 2011 10:12 am

Or maybe USU because they think UH took “their” spot in the MWC.

  47. Michigan Warrior March 7, 2011 10:12 am

    Wow, long day yesterday!

First off, mahalo to everyone for such a warm, family-style welcome at the CC and the Wahine Softball games! After starting the day on a low note, it steadily progressed to an outstanding overall day by the time we left the hospital at 10:30 last night.

It was good to talk story with all you guys who showed up at the CC… real good fun! It was also a great joy to have finally met Makani’s grandpa in person, after years of communicating only online. So much catching up, with so many friends and family. And to top it off with a couple of sweet Wahine softball wins, after the blessing showers of Manoa finally passed… just outstanding!

Special mahalo to GmaHoney, for your generosity and continued support of my ‘ohana.

Our family appreciates the overwhelming support everyone has showered us with from the beginning.

RainbowCliff… wait ’til you see pictures of us in those shirts! Wearing ’em with Pride… even if Pride. wasn’t physically there. Mahalo again!

I’ll be with my kids, wandering around Kapolei for a couple of hours, before heading back to the hospital later this afternoon.

  48. NCAA March 7, 2011 10:14 am

I hope it is Nevada that is annoyed. They deserve all the annoyance that comes their way.

  49. mctruck March 7, 2011 10:36 am

eh!!, Benson should huddle with and take advise from Hermie Frazier on finalizing fb schedule.

Com’n Benson….you and hermie tryin to make it worst for the WAC, and blame everyone else with you’re failures. U tink WAC fans R tupit???

  50. cheepono March 7, 2011 10:40 am

if the rumors about hansen are true then it should be brought public so there is heat put on the NCAA that will spark change. they once again screwed another innocent kid over.

  51. SUPPORT RAINBOW WAHINE SOFTBALL March 7, 2011 10:43 am

Yes. Best of luck with Kaia Parnaby as she undergoes her MRI for her pitching elbow (left).

She continued to play back home in Australia during the summer almost immediately after the WCWS and carried on when she arrived back in Hawaii for fall practice/exhibition season.

She’s a gamer like all of her teammates.

    The TOUGH girls play softball!!!

  52. Stretch March 7, 2011 10:45 am

cheepono – I have a feeling that you might have heard the wrong “rumor”

  53. NCAA March 7, 2011 10:52 am

    Anyone speaks Romanian?

  54. NCAA March 7, 2011 10:57 am

    SUPPORT RAINBOW WAHINE SOFTBALL,

Why is the Game Stats page, in your website, created with yellow text on a white background?

  55. WahineSoftballFan March 7, 2011 10:58 am

    Tsaikos,

Both the Men’s and Women’s 1st round games can be seen on Wacsports.com for a minimal fee of $7.95 per game. The Men’s quarterfinal game on Thursday can be seen on ESPNU.

  56. al March 7, 2011 11:04 am

i suspect that usu is not so happy these days.

  57. Kazz March 7, 2011 11:07 am

    NCAA,

    Webmaster: pomai@nawahine.com.

  58. NCAA March 7, 2011 11:11 am

    Kazz,

What? You guys don’t communicate? LOL

  59. WahineSoftballFan March 7, 2011 11:14 am

    NCAA,

#60, Kazz and Pomai, actually do not communicate with each other, they even sit well apart from each other at the Wahine Softball games.

  60. WahineSoftballFan March 7, 2011 11:15 am

    Michigan Warrior,

Were you the ones wearing the lei that was sitting in the 3rd base stands.

  61. RainbowCliff March 7, 2011 11:17 am

Michigan Warrior, I knew your CELEBRATION was going to be a day of good food and

fond memories. That is how Tsaikos do it “first class” as I have had my share of them

in Vegas, San Diego, Los Angeles and the BEST one of all New Orleans Sugarbowl !

Props to Kekoa and NorthShorefan for organizing such a worthy cc. Your family got to

witness another side of your appreciation of fond supporters who finally got to meet you. Very happy for you to have your day of recognition. Contuinue prayers go out to your

Father as he keeps being surrounded by the LOVE of your ohana as day by day his health

gets better and ALL of us can rejoice in the true miracle of PRAYER !

  62. NCAA March 7, 2011 11:17 am

    Mr. WahineSoftballFan,

And where do you sit or stand at the game? As for me, I’m waiting for the next live K5 telecast.

  63. WahineSoftballFan March 7, 2011 11:24 am

    NCAA,

#64, 3rd base stands. Next live K5 telecast will be next week, The Chevron Spring Fling Tournament.

  64. WahineSoftballFan March 7, 2011 11:26 am

Pomai, missed getting a pic of the Michigan Warrior clan at the SB game.

  65. WahineSoftballFan March 7, 2011 11:30 am

Wow, just noticed, South Dakota State will be staying another week to play in the Pepsi Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament, too. Must be a wonderful treat for those young ladies to be able to spend almost 2 whole weeks in the Land of Aloha.

  66. Kazz March 7, 2011 11:33 am

    NCAA,

I sit the farthest away from the other officers. As far away as one row in front of them.

Sometimes there might even be one other person sitting inbetween me and other people.

We’re not holding hands and hugging constantly like the other several hundred people at the game.

  67. WahineSoftballFan March 7, 2011 11:40 am

Pomai, is truly a loyal fan. Normal the first person in the stands, with his cup of coffee.

  68. WahineSoftballFan March 7, 2011 11:42 am

Anyone know what Coach Coolen’s 3 most important softball equipment are?

  69. WahineSoftballFan March 7, 2011 11:50 am

Watching these Women Basketball Conference games, Hawaii has a long was to go to be really competitive. Can the UHAD be willing to stick with Coach Dana, after next year, if her team does not show marked improvement, meaning ending up in the upper tier of the conference.

  70. Kazz March 7, 2011 11:55 am

Congrats to Kaia Parnaby for being named WAC Co-Pitcher of the Week!

You don’t mess with a perfect game. 😎

If Parnaby’s elbow was in better shape and played more than one game, she would have probably won the complete honor.

  71. WahineSoftballFan March 7, 2011 12:02 pm

    Kazz,

I talked to Parnaby yesterday, she mentioned that she could have pitched if Coolen wanted her to. What a tough wahine!!!

  72. longboarder March 7, 2011 12:30 pm

    Blog clown Steve speaks!

    Loser.

  73. RedZone March 7, 2011 12:33 pm

Congrats to Kamila Jackson 5. WAC Player of the Week.

  74. RedZone March 7, 2011 12:34 pm

    Congrats to Kaia Parnaby.

  75. NCAA March 7, 2011 1:07 pm

Congrats to Zane Johnson (Player of the week)

Congrats to Kamilah Jackson and Shawna-Lei Kuehu for making the all freshmen team.

  76. Pomai March 7, 2011 1:16 pm

BTW our own gmahoney almost caught a foul ball one handed, but it bounced off her fingers.

  77. Pomai March 7, 2011 1:18 pm

NCAA I don’t know why you see the that page that way, for everyone else so far it has a green background, and the links are yellow.

  78. Pomai March 7, 2011 1:26 pm

On another note – NCAA don’t sit home and watch the games, come on out to the stadium, live is better.

  79. NCAA March 7, 2011 1:26 pm

    Pomai,

Maybe it’s my browser. I’m using Google Chrome. Thanks for checking.

  80. NCAA (Firefox) March 7, 2011 1:31 pm

    Pomai,

Using Firefox and I still see the white background with the yellow text. I’m not about to go to the dark side and use Internet Exploder.

  81. NCAA March 7, 2011 1:32 pm

So sowey Hyun, me no Swing danceee.

  82. whitey (it is "hot" here) March 7, 2011 1:35 pm

ok tsaikos, good morning from the far east.

  83. NCAA March 7, 2011 1:39 pm

And HECO said, let there be power, and there was power.

  84. whitey (it is "hot" here) March 7, 2011 1:39 pm

most interesting day yesterday, today for all of you. went shopping, but stores “did not have enough” of what i needed. stopped at a watering hole to put fluid back in and enjoy the “scenery”. this place offers much in “cultural experiences” and am not learning too fast. in fact, slow learner. anyway, you all have a nice day in the west.

  85. Shoko March 7, 2011 1:51 pm

    Afternoon, folks!

Congrats to Kamilah Jackson and Shawna-Lei Kuehu selected for WAC All-Freshmen team. Future is bright for the Wahine BB team.

  86. 808Fringe March 7, 2011 1:52 pm

    RAINBOWCLIFF!

Bro! BIG MAHALO for the shirt! I just got back from vac to the office and your package was the first thing I saw. All I can say is Awesome Awesome Awesome!

And now to feel a little bad, I didn’t realize you were THAT CLIFF! Hopefully one day I get to meet you in person. Maybe when the Lakers are in the Finals again for the THIRD TIME!

    Mahalo Cliff!

  87. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2011 1:57 pm

Is it possible to have steel power lines?

That way whenever winds go over 25 mph we don’t lose power?

  88. tommui March 7, 2011 1:58 pm

    KAZZ:

Who was the fellow sitting behind you with the orange tee-shirt?

  89. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2011 1:59 pm

I like Benson, but if he’s going to be ticked, he’s got to be tougher than sending terse e-mails. Sheesh. Is he Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory?

  90. Kazz March 7, 2011 2:03 pm

    Tom Mui,

During the Weber State game for the tourney title?

I think NorthShoreFan knew those people. I sat with NSF in the very front row, then an older couple behind us and Pomai, HiFlyer, and Ralph to the right. Gmahoney, MIWarrior and Ohana were the furthest away on the same side. There were a bunch of students in pockets all around also.

A-Joe and Kekoa sat behind home plate.

  91. Kazz March 7, 2011 2:04 pm

    ST,

Will we ever ELIMINATE the union workforce style in Hawaii??????

  92. Kazz March 7, 2011 2:06 pm

I hope the residents and business owners of Ewa Beach and other areas that were left to suffer due to selfishness file a massive class-action lawsuit against the IBEW.

  93. NCAA March 7, 2011 2:06 pm

I would think steel power lines are too heavy as compared to the relative weight and strength of aluminum.

  94. Pomai March 7, 2011 2:24 pm

NCAA for some reason I have tried using firefox and chrome and both messed up my computer, so I stick with IE.

  95. Pomai March 7, 2011 2:30 pm

NCAA I tried the site with my daughters MAC which runs safari and it works ok.

  96. SteelerMike March 7, 2011 2:32 pm

Spring Football I cant wait, I’ve been watching the following you tube sites getting ready for some Football. GO WARRIORS!!!!!!!!!

    Alex Green!

    and Zach Mash!

    http://www.youtube.com/user/THEHAWAIIMONSTER

  97. Ralph March 7, 2011 2:33 pm

Pomai are you saying that the background of the game stats on nawahine.com is green? like NCAA, I have yellow on white and I’ve got to move my laptop screen to read the print. Yellow letters blends in with the white background, with the screen (monitor) on bright light, its tough to read.

  98. al March 7, 2011 2:36 pm

i was thinking…in two years we will be playing basketball in the big west. we should have at least three guys on the all newcomer’s team…no?

  99. mctruck March 7, 2011 2:47 pm

With the way Vander got pushed around and man-handled by Fresno’s center, Smith…anyone seeing/hearing any recruiting rumors of a physical center in UH’s future??

  100. Ralph March 7, 2011 2:50 pm

April 1, Friday, UH vs Fresno State on ESPNU at 10 pm. (must be ET)

  101. wafan March 7, 2011 3:11 pm

    1st of the 2nd century!

  102. wafan March 7, 2011 3:12 pm

    Good afternoon, everyone!

  103. wafan March 7, 2011 3:13 pm

Been busy organizing, running and wrapping up our region leadership conference.

    Whew! Lot to do, still.

  104. wafan March 7, 2011 3:14 pm

Hope everyone had a grand time at MW’s cc!!!

Gotta try that place later this year. It sounded really good.

Yum, Chinese buffet. No excuse for being hungry an hour or so later!

  105. papajoe2 March 7, 2011 3:14 pm

#99 mctruck, I know we have a red shirt. I think he’s a 7’er. I don’t know about his bulk though. He played for USC.

  106. NCAA March 7, 2011 3:17 pm

    Mr. papajoe2,

The player you mentioned needs to put on weight and gain strength.

  107. jojo ® March 7, 2011 3:29 pm

Spring training! I need to do some weight training! Yay!

  108. papajoe2 March 7, 2011 3:31 pm

#106 NCAA, Maybe he should join the Tsaikos Cattle Call. Hahahaha.

  109. WahineSoftballFan March 7, 2011 3:31 pm

    Papajoe2,

What NCAA said is an understatement. The kid is 7’+ but barely tips the scale at 200.

  110. papajoe2 March 7, 2011 3:33 pm

If the redshirt basketball player is good enough to have major minutes, maybe coach Gib can neutralize lack of bulk with the twin towers.

  111. tommui March 7, 2011 3:33 pm

KAZZ: Sorry – I meant for the Bonaventure game – couldn’t stay for the championship game. OF course with Jerry and Miki moving back and forth – food, drinks, photos etc, it got confusing. Just curious who the guy behind you was – one of the bloggers?

  112. WahineSoftballFan March 7, 2011 3:35 pm

    Papajoe2,

The kid has a nice outside shot, like most foreign big players do. Needs to work on his inside game, tho.

  113. Kazz March 7, 2011 4:09 pm

    Tom Mui,

I think you had me mistaken for someone else.

I couldn’t sit in the stands to watch the St. Bonaventure game as I was at the booster tent for most of the time and occasionally I walked up the stairs on the 1st base side to see how we were doing.

  114. RainbowCliff March 7, 2011 4:26 pm

#86 808 Fringe: So glad you made it home from your vacation and that NBA all star shirt just waiting for you. Being that “CLIFF” has brought nothing but joy for me to come back here and give to you good folks of Tsaiko Nation. I was brought to the attention of this blog by Hawnstn who introduce me to the So Cal Tsaikos and from there I have enjoyed the many posts of so many intellects, professionals and scholars who make up the Warrior Beat.

Keep the faith and wear that shirt proudly as it is made and given with good love and care for the GREAT folks of Hawaii Tsaiko Nation !

#87 – It the falling trees that knock down the cables. The cables have too much tension and they then pull down the poles. They could put up concrete poles like they do in Guam. However, then you have more drunk drivers killing themselves running into the concrete poles. I think part of it is HECO is cheap, and they don’t put enough slack in the lines. Cost money to have longer cables…. They have to engineer it just right, enough slack so that cable can swing a little bit, but not too much slack that the cables hit tree branches or other obstacles…. I think HECO gets income by letting Oceanic and Hawaiian Tel hang their cables on the poles too, makes the poles top heavy and easier to knock down…

The spring-training cycle marks the entry of Tommy Heffernan’s second season as Strength Coordinator for UH football. By all accounts, in his first year, Heffernan recorded unprecedented results. Sure would be helpful if Steve Tsai would interview Tommy to discuss his agenda and schedule for the football players. Tommy spends more time with these athletes than any other coach and it just underscores his involvement but does not reveal the body of his work.

Most fans would like to know how TH mixes weight training, agility, running, sprints, aerobics, etc. together. Each category involves a plan to develop results designed for football and each particular position: How does he monitor each athlete? What are the rules?

Ive been delighted with some of the feedback Im getting directly from several ballers, but, there is nothing like hearing it from the horses mouth. I believe the fans would be jacked to know what is done in the spring and summer training cycles.

In the past it was not uncommon for football athletes to churp about their lack of fidelity to discipline and training and how much unwarranted weight they pilled on during their career.

Sad testimony to UH supervised training.

It was also common for many athletes who were hard workers to pursue their own training regime outside of UH.

If Heffernan is successful in placing a legitimate training program together for UH football, it would place our team on par with the level UH seeks to be competitive.

    Best wishes to Tommy!

This coming Thursday through Sunday will be a huge sports UH fan challenge since we cannot be in two places at the same time. Nine games/matches all totaled.

On Friday and Saturday night, there will be both baseball and volleyball going on at almost the same time – 6:35 and 7 pm respectively both nights – plus softball on Friday at 6 pm.

We have tickets for both baseball and volleyball and plan to use one set of tickets and will give away the other pair each night. It makes no difference to us which night we go to the baseball game and which one we go to the volleyball match.

Assuming there are no problems, I plan to go to the softball games on Friday until 7 pm no matter which ticketed sport I’ll be attending that evening. Saturday’s softball games will be pau by the time evening sports roll around.

If you would like to use a pair of tickets for baseball or volleyball, please send me an e-mail to swood at hoku dot com. Please include full contact information including day and evening phone numbers and which night you want to see which sport. Will call you to confirm which one and will leave the tix at the Will Call window at either The Stan or The Les.

According to the baseball/volleyball schedules, there’ll be a similar double booking on April 1 & 2 and April 8 & 9. Let me know if you’d like to have a pair during either of those two weekends.

The volleyball tix are lower bowl opposite the teams. The baseball tix are upper level third base side.

Hope to have a vehicle by the weekend. What a pain in the binancas this has been trying to deal with junk weather and a bad cold and a very long walk to the bus stop. Had to take a taxi to/from Kailua to Kaiser in Kane`ohe on Saturday which cost over $50 all totaled becase I was too sick to take the bus and had no other way to get there.

Cannot afford that on a daily basis – it would probably cost close to $100 to travel to/from Kailua to downtown Honolulu.

take a look at CINN training. They employ a hurry-up O, so coach Butch Jones instructed Bearcat SC, Dave Lawson, “What we do in the weight room has to match what we do on the field.”

Most D1A programs do the same: develop a training program that matches its on-field game.

  136. Garret March 7, 2011 9:00 pm

Garret, where are you. I’m sure you could explain why the WAC scheduling is so difficult. All other conferences’ schedule are completed. I know that Udub is already selling tickets to their games. When I tried to buy the Udub tickets from the UH ticket office, they said that they are not selling tickets yet. Could this be a reason why they can’t/won’t sell tickets to this away game?

    papajoe2,

Before UH fans complain too much about the problems with the schedule this year, we should remember that *UH* was the problem for the WAC schedule being late in 2007. UH’s old AD really messed up things for the rest of the WAC…and there wasn’t even a valid excuse like now about how the conference changes created scheduling hiccups for some teams.

The UH ticket office is normally WAY behind in selling tickets to games, so UH selling tickets after U-Dub is *normal*. We cannot blame that on Fresno and Nevada this year when UH DOES THAT EVERY YEAR. Remember, when Rick had to buy the tickets for the UH-UNLV game from *UNLV* because the UH ticket office was not easy to work with? We can’t blame Fresno and Nevada for that.

For the Sugar Bowl, I spent 8 or more hours a day way over a week trying to arrange for some people to buy tickets while getting calls day and night from people who wanted tickets. It got to the point where it hurt my work, I wasn’t sleeping because I had to get my work and personal stuff done in the time I normally slept, etc. We can’t blame Fresno and Nevada for that.

The other thing is that *ESPN* probably hasn’t made up its mind yet on what games it wants from the WAC TV deal. ESPN has a *lot* of say in the WAC schedule so that it can set up the games it wants to televise. If ESPN needs more time to decide things, the WAC schedule cannot be finalized. We can’t blame Fresno and Nevada for that…aside from the fact that ESPN seems to want the Fresno/Nevada matchup to be the final WAC game of the season (like how ESPN sets up the WAC “championship” game every year), but Fresno is playing San Diego State during the last Saturday of the season.

  140. Garret March 7, 2011 9:05 pm

Looks like the Raiders made sure they would have Samson next year…assuming that there is a season.

Samson Satele was reportedly tendered prior to Thursday’s deadline.

The speculation is that he was given a second-round tender.

The center played well as the season wound down. Oakland could not risk losing many of their linemen and then starting anew in 2011 with a bunch of youngsters all over the front.

Satele could bring back some cohesion and stability to a unit that will likely feature Jared Veldheer and Bruce Campbell at a guard spot, with Robert Gallery looking to sign elsewhere.

2007 was too long ago for papajoe to recall or remember, too many headers in soccer will do that to an old man standing in the goal box. And he wasn’t trying to do the headers to score, he was standing there as a coach, too slow to duck.

  145. Ralph March 7, 2011 9:13 pm

huge guards for Oakland if both Campbell and Veldheer fill the guards spots. Campbell is 6-6′ 315 and Veldheer is 6′ 8″ 315. Samson is at 6’3 300lbs.

    Ferd’s article said that:

Then, “24 hours before, when we were going to announce the WAC schedule,” the conference learned about Fresno State’s Dec. 3 game at San Diego State, Benson said.

    http://www.staradvertiser.com/sports/sportsnews/20110308_WAC_football_schedule_in_limbo.html

But the *fact* is that Fresno State announced the December 3 game with San Diego State almost THREE months ago, *way* before the WAC even started working on its schedule.

The Dogs will close the season on Dec. 3 at San Diego State.

    http://www.gobulldogs.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/121310aae.html

By the way, the FACT is that Louisiana Tech completed its schedule just a few weeks ago.

The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs have completed their 2011 non-conference football schedule, the school announced Monday afternoon.

    http://www.fbschedules.com/2011/02/louisana-tech-2011-non-conference-football-schedule/

  165. Garret March 8, 2011 5:55 am

So, the FACT that the WAC is publicly blaming Fresno State for scheduling a December 3 games against San Diego State for the WAC having to completely re-do the WAC schedule just shows the FACT that the WAC is *pitifully* inept and didn’t pay attention to Fresno State announcing a game last December that reserved that December 3 spot. The Fresno State/San Diego State game on 12/3/11 was no *secret*, I saw articles about it on 12/13/10 and 12/13/10 in numerous newspapers and even saw a blurb about it on some obscure site called ESPN.com.

The WAC saying they “just heard about” the game just shows how pitiful the *highly paid* WAC administrators are and how lucky UH is to be leaving. UH’s Athletic Department (and UH itself) has basically been subsidizing those inept people, led by Karl Benson the worst commissioner ever, for decades.

Pitiful, pitiful excuse by the WAC for messing it up and trying to blame Fresno State. I am sad that UH fans fell for it, since that probably means that fans all around the WAC will believe the pitiful deception that the WAC is trying to spread.

  166. Garret March 8, 2011 5:57 am

12/13/10 and “12/14/10” in post 166. I’ve got to get to work before I *really* start to unload on the WAC and its commissioner who has a history in inept behavior and poor decisions.

That is receiving a little more subjective, however I a lot prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more aptitude, and a few cool aspects like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly watch related albums, songs,or different users associated to what you’re listening to.Clicking on a kind of will heart on that item, and every other set of “neighbors” will come into view, permitting you to navigate around exploring by same artists, songs, or users.Talking of users, the Zune “Social” is also nice fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and changing into company with them. You then can take heed to a playlist created in accordance with an amalgamation of what your entire company are listening to,which is also enjoyable. Those considering privateness will likely be relieved to grasp you could stop the general public from seeing your own listening habits if you so choose.

I know a lot of muscular guys that are very smart. I honestly do not think body biulding and intelligence have any correlation watsoever. It has to do with ur personality. Ive seen skinny, nerdy guys at the gym trying to bulk up. Intelligence doesnt biuld muscle, anyone can do it. Of course there are gonna be dumb, muscular guys and yes they r prob going to stick out more. Maybe thats why it seems that way.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

Heads up, Football is played all over the country, Stadium, sports centres, parks, playing ground, in the streets. You don’t have to have attended a match at Anfield (I have by the way) to know about football, nor do you have to know that much about the game to see where things are going wrong, and if someone is not good enough…

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

  248. jimmy choo bags March 21, 2011 8:36 pm

I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

  275. coach purse March 31, 2011 8:18 pm

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.
