The volleyball Warriors were prepared to take a shuttle to the Honolulu International Airport today when it was discovered that one of the two back-right tires was flat.

One of the Warriors got off the bus, looked at the flat, and yelled: Shoji!

Rainbow Wahine head coach Dave Shoji;s two sons play for Stanford, the Warriors’ opponent in Thursday’s MPSF semifinals.

A school bus was summoned as a replacement, and the Warriors headed to the airport.

Au’ryte Coach Gib, finally a legit point guard. Nice! Hopefully you can bring in a banger down low that can run…really hope Okonji would change his mind and make it over to the islands, he could be the final piece to an awesome recruiting class so far!

The Unofficial Blog of NCAA Compliance

Came across this site recently. Pretty good.

In the 4/18 entry the writer talks about Sixth-Year Denials Are Never Astonishing (Satele’s case is used as an example)

Other issues deal with amateurism, recruiting, investigations etc.

    Statement and question..

A-Tau…Mahalo for your leadership and “Warrior” attitude that you bring to the game. I will really miss your presence on the team.

Grimey…love your leadership behind the plate. You have been and excellent receiver for us!

T-Yosh…Representing the 808, home cooked girl..you make us proud..

Question…Could you all touch on your experiences at the UH and what observations or suggestions could you make to improve upon UH Warrior Softball?

  24. A-House April 27, 2010 9:19 am

Ladies, congratulations on your magnificant season to date and can’t wait to see you all on Friday and Saturday.

What has contributed the most to your success this season?

    And, sweep dem froggies!!!

  25. Kazz April 27, 2010 9:28 am

    Softball Seniors,

It seems to me that this season, the senior members of the team have been more vocal on the field. Did you all get together in the off season and decide to take more control off this team this year or was this just a natural progression as the season went along?

  26. jm2375 April 27, 2010 9:29 am

Off-topic – It’s not even May yet and the Orioles are already out of it with the absolute worst record. With the exception of the Caps, all the DC area teams, plus the Orioles stink and need new management. Hopefully the Skins will improve, but they still need a new owner.

  27. Kazz April 27, 2010 9:30 am

    Traci Yoshikawa,

I believe you were the first Wahine to smash a home run over the outfield netting this season during non conference play. It was a homer that sailed over left field and landed on the batting cages.

Could you share with us anything you’ve personally done in your practice/workout routine that has help contribute to this team’s overall hitting power?

  28. Slugger April 27, 2010 9:31 am

Hope Ferd’s article inspires people to attend the softball games this weekend. We need a big crowd.

  29. Kazz April 27, 2010 9:33 am

    Amanda Tauali’i,

Was the move to a later spot in the order the main reason for your recent hitting success or did it coincide with other things you’ve been working on?

  30. SteveM April 27, 2010 9:33 am

    Good morning everyone!

Not at work today, so I can see the show live.

  31. Kazz April 27, 2010 9:36 am

    Katie Grimes,

What kind of adjustments have you had to make calling pitches for two different pitchers as a series goes along as opposed to Stephanie being the main “gun” last season?

  32. NorthShoreFan April 27, 2010 9:37 am

There are many good athletes coming out of the 808. Do any of you plan on getting into coaching?

  33. Kazz April 27, 2010 9:38 am

    Softball Seniors,

The team had some fielding issues in the first half of the season, but you all have cleaned it up nicely once WAC play started.

How much time in practice is devoted to working on fielding grounders and who are the coaches working directly with the infielders?

  34. Kazz April 27, 2010 9:45 am

    NorthShoreFan,

EH! It’s Rainbow Wahine Softball my friend.

    No make any kine eh!!!!

    😎

  35. Kazz April 27, 2010 9:47 am

    Amanda Tauali’i,

You’ve had to wait a while behind the likes of Tyleen Tausaga and Kate Robinson for your shot at 1st base. During that time did you contemplate or did any of the coaches suggest having you play another infield position?

  36. Kekoa April 27, 2010 9:50 am

Dragged this over from previous blog…

    RE: UH Ticket Office

Protector ~ I’ve always had the feeling that the entire UH ticket office needs an overhaul. I never felt like they were doing their best to accomodate the customer.

Let’s start with who is in charge and check out their new hire/training program. Move on to daily operations, of the OTC/internet & corp sales. Then, identify the ‘no-show’ seats. We all know how screwed the FB ticket sales have gotten both home and away. It’s time…

…and what about this guy that has tickets to burn on the WB? He should certainly be a person of interest!

  37. Manoa Mist April 27, 2010 9:52 am

  38. Kazz April 27, 2010 9:52 am

    Katie Grimes,

It seems like your first year with the team is “mirroring” what is to be your last year with the team.

Could you describe the differences with the 2007 WAC Championship/NCAA Super Regional team and this one?

is there a reason that most of the staffers that are “leaving” are females?

  41. Mad Dog April 27, 2010 10:04 am

I hate purchasing tickets online. For seats in Aloha Stadium, I can select a section, but I cannot select or even view the available seats. The computer tells me which seats I can have. And if I don’t want those seats, I have to begin the online process all over again. Why can’t the computer show all the available seats as the airlines do on their online sites?

  42. Kazz April 27, 2010 10:07 am

    Thanks Al!

For a sec I thought you meant USC had a poll to which I thought, “I don’t give two ___s what SC thinks.

Then, I remembered I should read things slower. 😆

    What’s your favorite Coach “Bob-isms”?

  45. Ralph April 27, 2010 10:12 am

Congratulations Ladies, Na Wahine is ranked and playing very well at home and on the road. What are you doing to maintain your focus on reaching Oklahoma City, the road through the WAC has been relatively easy.

  46. Ralph April 27, 2010 10:13 am

Katie Grimes what brought a Floridian all the way over the Pacific to play softball?

  47. Ralph April 27, 2010 10:15 am

Katie Grimes you’ve practically played every inning in every game Na Wahine has played the last 4 years, what is your regimen during the off season to get yourself physically and mentally ready for the season?

  48. Mad Dog April 27, 2010 10:15 am

    Kazz,
I have football season tickets. Been going to the games for over 30 years. Yup, I’m an old fut. It’s just those Hawaii Bowl games that get me riled up. I’ve been to every UH bowl game, except those on Christmas Day. I even dragged the family to attend the Holiday Bowl. Too bad my kids don’t enjoy football like I do. I had to bribe them with a visit to Disneyland. And my wife keeps reminding me of all the money I spent going to the Sugar Bowl. At least I don’t golf.

  49. BleedGreen808 April 27, 2010 10:27 am

    Mad Dog–

    It was money well spent.

  50. Ralph April 27, 2010 11:03 am

Bears trade LB Jamar Williams, does that make room for Blaze at a lower price. Williams was a sub for Briggs as a backer.

  51. Ralph April 27, 2010 11:07 am

I hope there are more softball fans out there who will submit questions for our Na Wahine guests this afternoon. Fortunately, ST can ad lib and come up with his own line of questions as beat writer covering softball and chili rice.

  52. Ralph April 27, 2010 11:11 am

watch Auburn play Ole Miss in sb last night, we draw more fans than they do. Ole Miss has a nice locker room for the women sb team, wooden cubby cubicles that looks good compared to UH football locker room amenities.

    jm2375 #26:

My co-worker thinks the Nats, who are currently playing .500 ball, will finish the season there. I think otherwise.

Regardless, I can’t help but think that .500 will be considered a “successful” season for them. That’s unfortunate, because their new ballpark by Navy Yard is one of the better baseball stadiums I’ve been to….head and shoulders above RFK Stadium.

I’d like to thank the Advertiser tech staff–I was able to watch the replay of yesterday’s show without problems today. Great job by them and it was great to be able to hear Graves answer questions. That is a show that I definitely did not want to miss, especially considering how important Graves could be to the program.

    WDoc–

Volleytalk is a forum for volleyball fans. It is nation wide.

Mahalo for the link as well. What other local sports blogs are there?. I read sports sections in other local publications, but very few people post responses. A couple of other readers have also asked the same question.

Some observations about lower bowl ticket sales in The Stan – the court sports coaches are the one to contact right away and ask for a meeting in mid-May to express both concerns and to offer workable solutions. Although women’s basketball tickets are general adminission, Coach Dana should also be invited as a courtesy. If the coaches agree, then they will set up a meeting with the three top administrators – Jim, Carl & John.

We need information: For example, how many free tickets do the Platinum Sponsors get? The lesser ones? How often are they used throughout the season? Someone in those businesses has to have records. How many individuals – as opposed to corporate sponsors – currently buy season tickets in the lower bowl.

Although I understand why so many people express their concerns here on the blog, there are ways to make changes by being pro-active – note what happened with respect to setting up a Tsaiko account with Koa Anuenue or collecting donations at the last weekend of the Softbows series with Fresno State. The key First Step is to work directly on a face-2-face basis with the people who have the power to make changes.

We have season tickets for all six sports; with the exception of football, we’ve been fairly well satisfied over the years. With respect to football, we listen to the game on the radio and look up at the screen in the North End Zone – which is the process of being replaced – and are able to follow the game fairly well. If necessary, we’ll record the replay the next morning to get caught up on what we missed.

However, when I look around at both men’s and women’s volleyball matches and the men’s basketball games, I see a lot of regulars who are all welll over 50. What I don’t see are a lot of young adults – not just college students.

That’s should be our main focus on increasing crowds. And that means affordability and value for the cost – over & beyond supporting UH teams. For example, passing out coupons at the gate or doing what Watanabe Florist and Big City Diner do – show us your ticket stubs and you get something off your purchases.

Back to work again – looking forward to seeing Tsai-kos this Friday, Saturday & Sunday.

  58. Garret April 27, 2010 11:24 am

It sure appears that the NFL Advisory Board gives bad advice to some juniors that are considering entering the draft. Their poor evaluation could hurt some players in their NFL careers and deprive their colleges of their senior seasons. Bess is one of the examples they give for how overly optimistic this group can be.

Abolish the NFL Advisory Board: Juniors thinking about declaring for the draft can apply to this board, composed of NFL general managers and scouts, for advice on where they might be picked. The board doesn’t disclose its advice, but seems invariably to overestimate players’ chances, thus encouraging college juniors to skip their senior seasons. Two years ago, the board told Davone Bess he’d be no worse than a second-round choice if he jumped, and told linebacker Erin Henderson he’d be no worse than a third; both jumped, and neither were drafted at all. Bess is playing in Miami, Henderson is on special teams in Minnesota. Both would have been better off (personally as well as professionally) finishing college. This year, the advisory board told Michigan cornerback Donovan Warren he’d be a first-round choice, and told Mississippi quarterback Jevan Snead he’d be no lower than a third. Both jumped, and neither were drafted. Maybe they’ll stick with an NFL team; both should have finished college.

  59. Garret April 27, 2010 11:26 am

Article about how the NCAA tried to prevent conferences from having championship games in football. The SEC’s former commissioner is credited for conference championship games being created.

Schiller remembers sitting around one day with one of his assistants, Mark Womack, now the league’s executive associate commissioner. He was looking at the NCAA rule book and the idea was born.

“You know, Mark,” Schiller said, “we can have a football championship.'” “What you mean?” Womack responded. “I’m looking at a rule book and it says if you have more than 10 institutions, you can effectively have a championship in any sport,” Schiller said.

Somehow, Walter Byers, the dogmatic head of the NCAA, caught wind and immediately called Schiller in Birmingham.

“He said, ‘what the heck are you doing?'” Schiller said, remembering the fiery conversation. “That (rule) was not meant for you,” Byers told Schiller. “It was meant for hockey, volleyball and soccer (and smaller leagues) where they have 12 or 14 or 16 schools.”

“But that’s not what the rule books says,” fired back Schiller, a former combat pilot in Vietnam who later attained the rank in the Air Force of Brigadier General. Schiller once headed the chemistry department at the Air Force Academy and holds a doctorate in the subject.

Schiller said the conversation deteriorated from there, with Byers “calling me an SOB.”

“You’re not going to do it,” Byers demanded.

Oh yes we are, Schiller responded.

In 1992, the SEC made history by holding its inaugural championship game.

  60. Ralph April 27, 2010 11:28 am

Donovan Warren must have been floored after the second day of the draft, who hyped him to the NFL Advisory Board or did they have people actually studying film on him.

  71. jm2375 April 27, 2010 12:55 pm

Reason #1,000,000 that the HA has da bestest sports coverage in town:

A certain Brand X columnist (and his copy editors) repeated misspelled a certain men’s vb players name in today’s paper. After a whole season, you’d think they’d be able to get it right… 😈

  72. A-House April 27, 2010 12:56 pm

    Slugger:

Call the ticket office first and ask if you can “fiddle” with your seats!

Midori7 wanted to make arrangements for us to move from the South End zone to the North End Zone via phone yesterday and was told to write her preferences on the “renewal” sheet, send it in, and someone will call her in late May or early June to let us know if we can move, where seats will be located, and cost.

I need to discuss this with Jim D as this is so silly! If the seats are currently not “reserved/purchased” then what’s the problem of selling them to us now. So many obstacles ( crazy rules ) that make it difficult for fans to purchase tickets. Now, it would be different it the seats we want are currently owned by someone else.

Why make it hard on fans; especially when UH is trying to get fans into seats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  73. Curt April 27, 2010 12:58 pm

How’d you score a photo with Stephanie Lum? Speaking for the guys, good job.

***UH VOLLEYBALL AND SOFTBALL PROGRAMMING NEWS FOR SAT MAY 1ST***

I just got off the phone with a programming representative and the Senior Night Double Header for Wahine Softball MAY not air, at least live, on K-5.

This is totally dependent on the success of UH Warrior Volleyball against Stanford on Thursday. IF the Warriors beat Stanford and advance, K-5 WILL televise their next match at 4pm HST LIVE, which is the SAME time as the Wahine Softball game.

IF volleyball wins, the softball game will still be shown, but in delay later that evening. The programming representative said that it is not sure if BOTH games of the softball double header will be shown.

    In summary:

    IF VOLLEYBALL BEATS STANFORD:

-K-5 will air their next match at 4pm on Saturday May 1st Hawaii standard time
-Wahine Softball will still air, but in a tape delay and it is unconfirmed if BOTH games will be shown.

    IF VOLLEYBALL LOSES:

-Wahine Softball’s season finale DH will be shown in full live at 4pm HST.

  88. SteveM April 27, 2010 2:26 pm

    A-House — re: #72
According the renewal notice we received, you should be able to move to any seat in North end zone because there is no premium surcharge seats involved.

I think it unlikely that the entire North end zone is reserved or sold out at this time, although a lot of sections are reserved for students, band, visiting team fans, etc.

Maybe Midori should check again since maybe the clerk didn’t get the word on the non-premium seats? Since I sit in a no surcharge section, I was able to change my seats slightly yesterday.

Am I able to still view it?

I really should save this remark for a time when I want a favor or prizes or freet tickets from Tsai, but I must say, he looks like he’s really lost some weight.

Or is it just that takin’ a picture with that babe at his side would make anyone look better!? 😆

UW lost their president to the NCAA. So, all of the newscasts are reporting live from outside of Husky Stadium. Why not in front of their main office building?

Worse, their major concern is how the teams will be affected. What about the academic programs?

Geez. They need to get a grip.

  96. NorthShoreFan April 27, 2010 3:14 pm

Why would anyone want to go from a great university to the NCAA organization?…is this retirement?

  100. Ralph April 27, 2010 3:34 pm

Momo aren’t you joining us at softball this friday and saturday? Na Wahine on a 17 game win streak, nationally ranked, and basebows are 20-19, 4-8 in WAC, and sinking fast

  101. Slugger April 27, 2010 3:38 pm

WB show a bit glitchy, but not too bad. Those wahine have a real team spirit.

    GO WAHINE!!!

  102. J-Dog April 27, 2010 3:40 pm

Got to watch the replay of the WB show.

I like David Graves attitude. Gotta have that swag like a certain former UH QB. Now I hope Graves can turn that confidence into results on the field.

  103. wafan April 27, 2010 3:44 pm

Shucks. Got home a bit too late to watch the Wahine show. Hopefully the replay problems have been fixed.

    Go Wahine! Take no prisoners!!!

  104. Maverick April 27, 2010 3:54 pm

    Yep DPK..
Some days are diamonds, some days are stones depending on which day I see um.

btw, Bifoculs are on the list for the next town trip.

  105. d1島 April 27, 2010 4:05 pm

    Sinking fast?

.500 on the road and just above that with a very tough OOC slate. I still plan on attending games with a reasonable expectation that a win is possible on any given night.

  106. Curt April 27, 2010 4:14 pm

    Kazz,

Thanks for keeping us informed on the Wahine.

  107. Ralph April 27, 2010 4:17 pm

as of 4/27 UH is last, sinking, down but not out, but there are two teams with one less victory and 3 less loses because they have played one less series. Finish last, no WAC tourney, but there are games remaining to jump at least one stop to qualify. Nevada, this weekend, and San Jose State are 1/2 game above us, and New Mexico State is in first place.

  108. Ralph April 27, 2010 4:22 pm

a win is always a reasonable expectation, 50% plus one, some days you win, some days not as successful, but we are 20-19 and I am thankful for the tough OOC schedule, brought out the fans, all expecting to win, didn’t win them all, but it is what it is, 20-19. Last season UH barely qualified for the WAC tourney, did it on the last weekend, finished 30-24 for the season.

  109. Ralph April 27, 2010 4:30 pm

Nevada is coming in at 3-4-1 WAC. Split with FSU, finished with 1-2-1 at New Mexico State. Fresno and New Mex St are the current top two in WAC play.

  110. d1島 April 27, 2010 4:36 pm

  114. NYUH April 27, 2010 4:49 pm

Regarding the NFL Advisory Board, it seems to be a basic economic issue – increase the supply and you reduce the price.

  115. DrDoc April 27, 2010 5:34 pm

Then there will be no baseball tv coverage on Saturday. What about radio coverage starting shortly before 3 pm? Or will that be determined as to what is happening in NoCal? Will the second game be covered on the radio?

What about Friday? Will there be baseball or softball TV coverage? Radio coverage? I hope we can listen to the baseball game while at the softball game and Warrior Bowl.

And what about Sunday? Any tv or radio baseball coverage?

GOOD LUCK – GREAT LUCK TO A CERTAIN GROUP OF GUYS NOW IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA SOME 20+ MILES EAST OF SAN FRANCISCO.

KGMB news just reported that the SB sales bids were not accepted (too low.) HA will be merged w/ SB. Prayers for ST to be retained as a writer.

  121. Slugger April 27, 2010 6:00 pm

UH’s H-Mail email today mentions the donations collection we’ll have at the SB games this weekend.

  122. Ralph April 27, 2010 6:20 pm

Surprisingly Kekoa Kerr mentioned that the SB staff will be retained and the HA staff will be added. Wouldn’t you want the staff that earned a profit for Gannett as lead and add the best of the rest from the brand x. Now I know why he loss a 100 million bucks, but difficult to believe he would still be in business and not bankrupt if loss that much money as reported.

  123. Ralph April 27, 2010 6:28 pm

so who has the donation bottle or container for the sb game and what time will the individual or individuals be at the game on friday and saturday?

  126. jm2375 April 27, 2010 6:32 pm

  127. Kazz April 27, 2010 6:36 pm

I said it months ago. IF OPI KNEW THE REAL “PLAYERS” IN THE GAME, THEY’D RETAIN THE ADVERTISER STAFF THAT HAVE BEEN BENEFICIAL TO THE POPULARITY OF THE ADVERTISER.

STEPHEN TSAI’S CONNECTIONS WITH PLAYERS AND COACHES IS A VALUABLE ASSET THAT NO ONE CAN REALLY MATCH.

THE ADDITION OF THE WARRIORBEAT SHOW HAS DONE NOTHING BUT BRING IN TRAFFIC TO THE ADVERTISER’S WEBSITE AND SHOULD BE CONSIDERED.

One can’t buy the shell of a Bentley and expect the engine of a Dodge Neon to support it.

Now, how the hell can the same people change seats for others and refuse our request? We know, and they should know, that there are NO premium seats in the North End zone which is known as the most undesirable area within Aloha Stadium!!!!!!!!!!

I’ll be bringing two donation jars this weekend. When one is filled, the second one will be set out. The jars, along with a Jar Watcher or two, will be in the lowest row third base side in the middle of the section closest to the covered area.

The donation station will be set up by 5:15 pm on Friday. I’ll be working innings 3,4 & 5.

The plastic jars hold six quarts of whatevers and will be sealed with colored tape. Slugger is making a sign which will be taped to a stick which will then be taped to the back of the jar. The Jar Watcher(s) will place it in the seat to her/his right so that folks on the first base side can see it off in the distance.

Does anyone know where I can pick up some small softball stickers? There’ll be a couple of H stickers on the jar, but I’d like to put a couple of softball stickers on it as well.

    1) My hawaii.edu is still active.
    2) Even if it weren’t, I’ve signed up under every e-mail address I have. UH, Road Runner, my church account. I know it’s not a spam filter thing, because I’ve checked the spam folders for all. (Plus, my UH account gets so much spam anyways!)

Slugger – same sitch as Jason. My hawaii.edu is technically still active till August. I’ve also signed up using my gmail account. I used to get them years ago, then turned it off and could never get it turned back on. But still, it’s a new email addy, so shouldn’t I be getting them?

  145. Kazz April 27, 2010 8:34 pm

Ok it’s official, my PC at home SUCKS big time.

When the streaming video on my cell phone is smoother than the one at home, then that’s a sign.

Today’s Warrior Beat Show with the softball seniors is the first time I have been able to watch it smoothly, but I am using my brother’s laptop.

Looks like I have all night to catch up on past missed episodes. In fact, it’s moving so well, the video is playing as I type this on another tab.

  146. Kazz April 27, 2010 8:35 pm

    Jason,

They know you are at HPU. You’ve been blacklisted my friend.

Nah, I dunno, that’s unnecessary though.

Did you contact someone about it?

  147. Jason April 27, 2010 8:40 pm

It’s never been a big concern, so I haven’t bothered.

  149. PowderPuff April 27, 2010 9:32 pm

Wow, it seems the Cardinal faithful are really preparing to come out Thursday dressed up in costumes with their jeers (to our Warriors?!?!). Hhhm, haven’t started packing yet, but since the weather is rather mild, I’ll have room in my suitcase for some costumes. 🙂 Hey, who needs a costume when you have a loudmouth?

Stretch, Rob25 and I better pace ourselves…I have a feeling THIS is the game to lose our voices.

  150. al April 27, 2010 9:44 pm

a very tall birdie landed on the window sill.

he said that a signed loi will be on the gibber’s desk tomorrow morning.
yup, ominick brumfield will the seventh recruit, thus the magnificent seven has been born.

  151. Ralph April 27, 2010 9:45 pm

OT Legislature raids 25 special fund- another way of taxing us under another name, only to raid it later as a slush fund. Like the hurricane fund, 911 enhanced fund, rail tax, county tourist tax, name it, its a tax.

  152. Ralph April 27, 2010 9:54 pm

great news, seven recruits, a new face to our basketball team. A few weeks ago some of commented that the coach was hired late and not to expect him to recruit this spring to improve the team for next season. We all hope the new recruits can contribute immediately, but definitely by the second season when playing in the system for two fall camps they will gel and be a team.

  153. Ralph April 27, 2010 9:55 pm

Al lucky you just have a little birdie, imagine having an albatross landing on the window sill. 🙂

  154. al April 27, 2010 9:58 pm

ralphie…albatross’ kaka is too big even for my window.

  155. al April 27, 2010 10:01 pm

i wonder what kind of incentive bonuses jd has embedded in his contract?

i think that next year he should be reaping some of those rewards.
anticipate attendance boosts in the following sports; mbb, mvb, wvb, wbb, fb(xing fingers).

perhaps a gate fee for softball. you know 3-4 dollars per.

  156. al April 27, 2010 10:03 pm

    #150….oops.

    that would be dominick brumfield

  157. Ralph April 27, 2010 10:21 pm

seems like Gib recruited a lot of combo hybrid HS and Juco-G/F type. Tall #2s or average size #3s. A long time ago, if a player was 6’7 or 6’8, he was a power forward or a very wide body center like Unseld or Cowens (he played widebodied, very physical). Only Joachim looks like a power forward, Amis has the height but not the build to control the paint. Kurtz got to develop guickly and contribute.

  158. al April 27, 2010 10:28 pm

gibber did say that he wanted the 4’s and 5’s to be able to knock down the threes. i think he did, huh?

  159. Ralph April 27, 2010 10:28 pm

Is Big Bend like in Bend, Oregon?

  160. Ralph April 27, 2010 10:35 pm

looking good, their stats shows that they are willing to hit the boards for rebounds. I hope the program has money to bring them in for summer school so Heffernan can work on their physique, strength and conditioning before fall unsupervised workouts.

  161. Slugger April 27, 2010 10:36 pm

Kurtz might do better next year with Roese as a coach. He’ll have that Brazilian connection.

I’m happy to see Coach Gib bringing in the players that he’s signing. Hoping to see a faster pace on the floor and better outside shooting.

  162. Slugger April 27, 2010 10:39 pm

Big Bend, TX is not the same as Bend, OR, Ralph.

  163. Slugger April 27, 2010 10:39 pm

    G’night!

  164. Kendall April 27, 2010 10:44 pm

Al, thanks for passing along this great news. I hope you fed the birdie afterwards.

I would still love to see him pick up a d1 transfer like Leonard Washington, chris colvin or dj seeley and more of nash’s crap players.

The only guys I would keep from the Nash regime is Thompson, Amis & Johnson.

  165. al April 27, 2010 10:48 pm

in the back of my mind still remains the belief that the gibber will still bring in one more.

i keep thinking about ferd’s earlier column that mentioned 7 footer, andre almeida of brazil who was trying to get nebraska to allow him to decommit from his early signing period loi.

  166. Da Punchbowl Kid April 27, 2010 10:48 pm

Yes, its Bob, not Steve. Thanks for the correction.

  167. TheObserver April 27, 2010 11:01 pm

I would like to share a few observations on the warrior spring practices:
    1) Since most of the warrior “o-line” graduated last year why weren’t other players given an opportunity to get game time reps for example:Sila at center? Everyone knew Estes was great! But, Sila couldn’t have gotten some game reps especially when games were already decided in the 4th quarter.
    2) What about Miah Ostrowski? Haven’t seen him on the field in 3 years!!!!
    3) Mana Lolotai projected as a starter last year. Where has he been?
    4) David Graves (nice article today) in the quarterback mix. I remember reading the same thing last year that they were going to use Inoke as a running and passing threat. He got on the field not for his passing or running but limited to holding the tee for point afters.

The warrior bowl at Ching field in Manoa on Friday along with the softball and baseball game!!! No problem, I’ll pay the over-priced $5.00 to get in to watch the game…..
Hey, I just read that the teams will not be split. Are you serious???? This gave every player an opportunity to get in the game. You would have the 1st-4th guys evenly split between the two teams. Isn’t that how we found Bryant Moniz? He was able to impress the coaches during the warrior bowl last year. He was low on the depth chart but given the opportunity he proved he was ready. So when Greg Alexander got hurt he had the chance to start. I know there are more players like him waiting for the chance but too low on the depth chart given this new team format.

Come on coach RETHINK the format. You already know who your 1 and 2 guys are. You have some 3 and 4 guys who could be 1 and 2’s with a second look in the warrior bowl.

    Just some observations………..

  168. al April 27, 2010 11:06 pm

slugger….hate to be the one to say this, but, last year’s team couldn’t shoot the ball to save their aunt mary.
