Saturday's ramblings

Well, so much for the announced scrimmage.

It was a regular practice, although the Warriors went full-speed on field-goal kicks and PATs, and full contact on drills matching the linebackers and DBs against the scout offense.

Starting left cornerback Lametrius Davis, who underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in May, has been cleared to practice:

Assistant coach Cal Lee warms up his arm for a pass-rushing drill …

The pass-rushers go through a maze of obstacles, then conclude the drill by creating an obstacle for the quarterback . . .

Hybrid rush end Paipai Falemalu can get airborne . . .

Football is about leverage, and this linebacker drill teaches Falemalu, George Daily-Lyles and Corey Paredes to fire out of a low stance:

In a drill of skill and courage, a receiver stands 20 yards from the JUGS ball-throwing machine. If he makes the catch, he takes a giant step forward, and awaits another pass. After each catch, another giant step closer.

    Paipai can really fly.

I like the pass catching drill Russ Francis used where he starts off with his back to the passer. When the passer threw the ball he would spin around and catch it.

Long time ago, used to play street football in Kailua with Russ Francis and my cousin Richard Wong. No fair, they both were soooooo much bigger than me.

    Just 19 days away…

Take out that mothballed jacket with all those hidden pockets… make sure there isn’t any left overs from last season in the pockets… shake em out… get em ready for stuffing… Football’s right around the corner… Yeehaw!

First off, I would like to thank Mr. Steven Tsai for all he does for us transplants outside of the state of Hawaii. Lots of diehard fans live away from Hawaii and can only get news from a few places like this site. I always love the short blurbs by you and really love the pictures you post of the players. I am a daily reader of your site and after years of using your service, I just wanted to thank you for all you do for me and others like me. Mahalo’s Mr. Tsai!!!!!!!!!!

On Cindy Luis’s blog under the heading Sports Extra, “Reviewing the post…..be nice, gang” she implies that the Tsai blog is the one with name calling, childish behavior and foul language, not hers. She will not accept such behavior on her blog and she will start deleting comments deemed in poor taste and civility.

  91. gigi-hawaii August 14, 2010 6:31 pm

Just got back from watching EAT PRAY LOVE, starring Julia Roberts. It left me teary-eyed. Julia was sensitive and vulnerable, very believable. Go see it. Terrific acting and fabulous scenery!

Then we bought a pizza and washed it down with ice cold beer in honor of the Italian segment of the movie. Hit the spot!

    OFF-SPORTS TOPIC

    Aloha:

On SATURDAY, AUGUST 21, from 8:30 am to 11:30 am, the WINDWARD AHUPUA`A ALLIANCE, a 501c3 non-profit, has planned a multi-tasking community service project in downtown Kailua & surrounding areas. Check-in begins at 7:30 am. Coffee, fresh fruit & pastries will be served during the registration period.

The half-day project welcomes groups from businesses, churches, clubs & service organizations, and schools & colleges as well as individuals who just want to do some good for the community as well as for the environment. Service credit for high school & college students will be given. NOTE: There’s a minimum age of 13 plus parental permission for anyone under 18 is required.

In order to say mahalo to all the volunteers, WAA will hold a drawing for gift certificates and theater & UH sporting events during the PAU HANA Barbecue starting at noon.

The overall project will focus on four very different activities which will provide volunteer opportunities for folks of varying ages, physical skills & interests:

    1. Getting out on & in & alongside one of the four major waterways surrounding Kailua Town to remove trash;

    2. Collecting non-perishable foods & personal items such as Spam, chili, rice & diapers & cleanser for the HAWAII FOODBANK. A list of items will be posted on WAA‘s website shortly;

    3. Donating HI-5 beverage containers to WAA’s PLant A Native Tree Fund to purchase at least 1,000 trees to be planted all across O`ahu on Sunday afternoon, October 10. Fully-deductible cash contributions will also be accepted; and,

    4. Encouraging folks drop by to exchange their incandescent light bulbs for free CFL bulbs, courtesy of the BLUE PLANET FOUNDATION.

The last three activities will be held in the parking lot behind the Davis Building at the corner of Kailua Road & Hamakua Drive just after crossing the bridge into downtown Kailua.

To carry out the waterways cleanup, WAA needs at least ten more shallow draft small boats and/or up to 15 kayaks capable of holding at least two people to navigate the four major waterways.

At least three trucks & helpers to collect bagged trash for pickup plus an additional truck to carry the HI-5 containers to the recycling center are also needed. Trash bags will be brought to a central location in downtown Kailua prior to lunch while the trips to the recycling center in Keolu Shopping Center & the Kailua Transfer Station will take place afterwards.

For more information on the four activities, set-up & breakdown support before & after the event, and pre-registration information, visit WAA’s website by clicking on my blog name above or by calling Jim at 808/223-4481.

    Mahalo for your support.

    Ralph,

I read what Cindy Luis wrote in reference to this blog and I didn’t think she was referring to the trolls on here that look for arguements, get personal, and try to turn things around on the regulars.

She was referring to what “Steve” (not to be confused with “SteveM”) wrote on here about post #s catching up to the average on this blog.

    Cindy Luis

didn’t slam ST’s blog. someone had posted earlier that mine was reaching his numbers. I don’t think it is. He’s in another world than I am.

  106. Kazz August 14, 2010 7:47 pm

I think all blog authors have the RIGHT to delete trash on their blogspace.

The freedom of speech has been abused as much as people using the term itself for their own insanity.

  107. gigi-hawaii August 14, 2010 7:50 pm

    Kazz,

I have been known to delete my daughter’s and my sister’s comments on my blog!!! Hey, it’s my blog!

  108. Ralph August 14, 2010 7:52 pm

Kazz what is on her blog now is not what it was at 6:20 pm, she edited it. Probably after WM commented on her blog that she shouldn’t be slamming Tsai and his following.

  121. d1島 August 14, 2010 8:43 pm

Tyson Alualu did not suit up for today’s Jags game

The Jaguars had 10 players not dressed for the game: Linebacker Daryl Smith, defensive end Aaron Kampman, offensive tackle Eugene Monroe, tight end Ernest Wilford, offensive tackle Eben Britton, defensive tackle Tyson Alualu, defensive end Austen Lane, defensive tackle D’Anthony Smith and defensive end Aaron Morgan. Wide receiver Jarett Dillard remains on the PUP list.

    Hiya – spending a lot of 6th F time.

Caught up on my washing and cooking today and have been watching NFL preseason games ALL DAY. Woohoo!

  124. d1島 August 14, 2010 8:48 pm

Looking at that Jags’ roster, it’s amazing to remember that day at Aloha Stadium when St. Louis and Kahuku matched up against Dela Salle and LB-Poly and the two future NFL stars on those mainland teams….Maurice Jones-Drew and Marcedes Lewis.

All this information is so helpful. I grow my own vegetables, prepare them, and lose weight for my efforts. I am also well liked by my neighbors because I share.

  138. Garret August 15, 2010 4:10 am

It was nice seeing Momo and Mrs. Momo on Friday and Saturday. It was too bad it was for a funeral, but it was nice to see some of my Uncles and Aunties that I hadn’t seen for a long time.

Traffic was crazy on the 5 on Friday and Saturday with more accidents that I’ve even seen before. I spent 5 hours and 15 minutes driving on Friday and spent 5.5 hours driving yesterday. What normally is a 1-hour drive from where we had lunch yesterday ended up taking me over 3 hours due to crazy drivers that got into big crashes. Momo was already on his plane at LAX when I was still driving even though I started driving before them.

    Great Morning All!

HS football in full swing; Niners offense still struggling…. 🙄

Just need some CFB and we’re on the way!

  142. Shoko August 15, 2010 7:33 am

Yep, I don’t like the new Colts’ helmet. Why have the emblem at all if its going to be in the back. Yea, its different and possibly considered nostalgic of the 50’s, but I still don’t like it. But then again, I’m not a big Colts fan. 😉

  143. d1島 August 15, 2010 7:43 am

Go across the bay and get Colt already! 👿

Kazz what is on her blog now is not what it was at 6:20 pm, she edited it. Probably after WM commented on her blog that she shouldn’t be slamming Tsai and his following.

Really? Wow. Well, the evidence is now destroyed.

Blog jealousy is sad, especially since there is ONE publication in town now.

  148. Shoko August 15, 2010 9:09 am

I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

Thanks to the upcoming World Basketball Festival, we now get a “USA” Air Jordan 2010 Team. It seems as if more people like the Air Jordan 2010 Team than the original Air Jordan 2010 because of the windowless side panels. I’m not one of those people who likes the team better; I think the original

Nike Shoes 2010 Shoes looks much better.Since this jordan Shoes Team is made for the USA team, the colorway should be clear. White can be seen on the side panels, toe, shoe laces, tongue, part of the midsole and the entire outsole. Navy blue covers the toe, heel, inner lining and above the midsole. Red accents appear on the tongue, toe, heel, lace panels and the midsole. The sneaker is constructed of perforated white leather with larger perforations placed on the side panels.
