Satele is a Cowboy

Former UH linebacker Brashton Satele signed a free-agent contract with the Dallas Cowboys today.

He declined to list financial terms, but said it was a standard three-year contract.

Satele said he had attended a personal workout with the Cowboys two weeks ago.

Satele has been training at Kaiser High School, where Chad Ikei has set up a training program. Ikei moved from Arizona last year.

Agents Kenny Zuckerman and Michael Hoffman have helped to arrange for their UH clients — Aaron Brown, Kaniela Tuipulotu and Vaughn Meatoga — to work out for NFL scouts on March 5 at the Athletes’ Performance facility in the Home Depot Center in Carson.

Draft-eligible Warriors who played in 2011 will be allowed to participate.

Because of the coaching change at UH, it is not known if there will be a separate UH pro day, which used to be held a few weeks before the NFL draft, also at the Home Depot Center.

Warrior volleyball is a big deal. Gov. Abercrombie, chancellor Hinshaw and AD Jim Donovan were among those in attendance light. Newly hired assistant coach Phil Rauscher also was there for the first two sets. Quick observations:

• Setter Sam Biscaro is making the most of the Warriors’ improved passing. He’s even working the pipe sets to J.P. Marks, who is trying to fill Joshua Walker’s Asics.

• Steven Hunt has emerged as team leader.

• With the Wolverine sideburns and John Stockton shorts, as well as a quick swing, Nick West might be the most entertaining athlete on the Manoa campus.

vol2West, Johann Timmer

• Charlie Wade, Jeff Hall, Vernon Podlewski and Maulia LaBarre are the most energetic coaching staff on campus.

• Even in a mostly empty arena, Alan Hackbarth works as if he’s performing before a full house.

Sol Elimimian got a tryout with the Rams. I hope that everything goes well with Sol and the Rams!

Thursday, the Rams had tryouts with two Canadian Football League All-Stars that played this past season for the league champion British Columbia Lions: linebacker Solomon Elimimian and tackle Jovan Olafioye. Both just concluded their second seasons in the CFL and were named to the CFL All-Star team.

Elimimian, 6-0, 227, who played collegiately at Hawaii, was briefly in the Buffalo Bills training camp in 2009. He was named the CFL’s outstanding defensive rookie in 2010 and this past season was voted the league’s hardest hitter in a player poll.

So it appears that Coach Chow can make outside endorsement deals on his behalf.. So can Coach Wade do the same with Red Bull?

  15. Stephen Tsai January 6, 2012 8:38 am

    Kevin:

They’re going to rotate Leoni, Carney, Ching, Ryan Tsuji, and some blogger for the pre-match shows.

So awfully quite on the NC and recruiting front…hopefully this is all good news 🙂

  17. d1shima January 6, 2012 8:39 am

    Congratulations Brashton Satele!

  18. Stephen Tsai January 6, 2012 8:40 am

I think Elimimian is ready to make the jump.

If he can play in the wider CFL game, he can play in the NFL.

    Way to go Brashton!

Student section for men’s volleyball is usually pretty decent. But then again school doesn’t start till Monday and a lot of the mainland kids are returning this weekend.

    Wait! So that must mean………….

  23. jm2375 January 6, 2012 8:46 am

ST – will Gus Tuaniga be eligible next week? What’s the problem?

  24. Garret January 6, 2012 8:47 am

When reading about Tyler Gray’s decision, I can understand why the coaching change at UH would weigh heavily on his decision. This is no different than UH poaching recruits that are gave verbal commits to another school, especially when UH goes after them after those schools have a coaching change.

Gray has no idea if he fits into Norm Chow’s systems on offense or defense…and Coach Chow can hopefully go out now and use that scholarship for a recruit that is a better fit for UH. So, everybody could benefit from this.

“With all of Hawaii’s coaches leaving, I didn’t really know anybody that was there anymore so we decided to go with Boise State,” said Gray, referring to the fact that Hawaii head coach Greg McMackin resigned after the 2011 season. “I feel very lucky that all of this, not just Boise State, but this whole thing happened. It’s just the cherry on top.”

  25. Stephen Tsai January 6, 2012 8:51 am

    Jm:

Gus Tuaniga is eligible. He didn’t play because Hunt and Marks were playing so well.

By the way, Tuaniga was never ineligible.

  26. PONO January 6, 2012 8:52 am

Tuaniga looks a little out of shape. Was that the same weight he came in at?

  27. Stephen Tsai January 6, 2012 8:54 am

    Gray:

That’s the risk of grayshirts. The scholarship agreement is binding only to the school; the player is a free agent. Aranda recruited Gray. Without Gray, there wasn’t much incentive to remain committed.

  28. Stephen Tsai January 6, 2012 8:55 am

    Pono:

He came in last Wednesday . . .

  29. jm2375 January 6, 2012 8:55 am

ST – Charlie Wade said they had to do a last-minute eligibility check on him. He was supposed to be the serving sub for Lofy, instead they had to use Troy Crutchfield.

  33. jm2375 January 6, 2012 9:08 am

Kevin – #32 – ??? wasn’t paying attention. The asst coaches’ families sit across the aisle from us.

  34. A-House January 6, 2012 9:08 am

Great for Brashton and the Satele family, but sad for me cause I no like the Cowboys.

  35. 808Bowler January 6, 2012 9:10 am

Congrats brashton!!!!!! Wonder if salas helped with that tho I do agree that he is ready.

    Morning everyone!!!!!

  36. Kevin January 6, 2012 9:11 am

No when I looked up at the TV, they were panning the crowd and everyone was looking up and I could hear that song in the background. This woman, I dunno mid 30 to late 30s maybe with brown curly hair was just all about that commercial. Singing along and dancing in her seat.

    Thought it was funny.

  37. jkjones January 6, 2012 9:13 am

UH football will be opening their xmas gifts a month later and one at a time.

RE the Tyler Grey situation, the idiom, “what’s good for the goose, is good for the gander”, should add post-holiday delight. It’s possible if not probable, some packages maybe gift-wrapped in an array of colors.

  38. PONO January 6, 2012 9:17 am

    ST,

Does NC have a UH email address yet? There is a great TE walk on prospect in Nor Cal. He’s a basketball player that would translate nicely as a TE. UH also recruited his family member but he ended going to WSU.

  39. Stephen Tsai January 6, 2012 9:19 am

  48. KeleguenBinadu January 6, 2012 9:52 am

Good Morning! Forgive me if this was asked, but I couldn’t find the answer in the forums. Earlier in the year, I read that because of the scheduling format the MWC had chosen, a member school will not play one of the other member schools for two seasons, i.e. Hawaii vs. Wyoming until 2014. After two seasons, then another school. The MWC asked the members to choose which teams they would like to continue competing against annually, to preserve rivalries…I assume. I know JD decided not to name any member schools, but does anyone know which, if any, of the other MWC programs chose to keep an annual game with Hawaii?

  53. cheepono January 6, 2012 10:14 am

boise’s OC brent pease is the #1 target for both florida and alabama. should get interesting.

this is the kind of problem i see coach chow having to deal with when hiring young up and coming coaches like powell and rauscher. good problem to have though since it would likely mean they’re having success here at hawaii.

  54. Couch potato January 6, 2012 10:21 am

My belief in recruiting, as in any competitive business, if you lose, you work harder the next time.

  62. Stephen Tsai January 6, 2012 10:40 am

    CP:

    Amen.

Hey, in this economy, and with the cost of an education (and a relentless student-loan system), more power to anybody who can get a scholarship. I’m happy for Gray and, especially, his parents.

  63. Da Punchbowl Kid January 6, 2012 10:42 am

Thanks Kevin, for being there when I needed it. 😆

  64. kev-1 January 6, 2012 10:44 am

Can’t get mad at Gray. He is going to a great program with a great coach and may be a part of a team that will win yet another BCS title game in the near future.

Wait, is that too much love for Boise from a UH fan?

  65. madeinhawaii January 6, 2012 10:45 am

Hmm… Florida State might have an opening on Sept. 8, with West Virginia trying to pull out of their scheduled game… Should Hawaii book another road game out there?

But then, that would make it two road games in a row from the West Coast (USC) to the East Coast… Not a good idea, eh?

  66. Couch potato January 6, 2012 10:45 am

2 plovers were walking in my yard today. does that mean there will be 2 reports regarding recruits or coaches? i don’t have the birdie connection like al.

  67. Da Punchbowl Kid January 6, 2012 10:45 am

No one can blame a kid for doing what is best for him and his family. Good luck to Gray in all his future endeavors.

No one can blame a UH fan for having a deep dislike for Boise, either.

  68. Stephen Tsai January 6, 2012 10:45 am

    CP — No. 54:

    It’s all about timing.

Gray’s story on de-committing (first reported by readers yesterday morning, by the way), broke on the morning cycle of breaking news.

Koloamatangi’s commitment was behind the paywall, and, by the way, appeared on page six because it happened in the late afternoon.

  69. Couch potato January 6, 2012 10:46 am

kev-1, you should have stopped at the first sentence. 😆

  70. Da Punchbowl Kid January 6, 2012 10:47 am

  71. Stephen Tsai January 6, 2012 10:47 am

UH won’t be scheduling any back-to-back non-conference road games for a while.

Good for the team, bad for gambling-addicted reporters and columnists.

  73. Old School Dave January 6, 2012 10:51 am

Re: Recruiting Wars. You win some, you lose some, but you keep on fighting to the end. With the change in coaching staff, it’s understandable that Gray had second thoughts. Don’t know why it’s a breaking story. Stuff like this happens all the time.

  74. Couch potato January 6, 2012 10:51 am

i remember going nightclubs and my friend had absolutely no timing and rhythm. he would throw everyone off on the dance floor. him imitating drums at the bar counter was also irritating.

  75. kev-1 January 6, 2012 10:51 am

All of those years watching Boise beat us yelling at the TV “if we only had a tight end to mix up the look!” Well, we’ll finally have one, or two. Boise, out of all of our former WAC opponents has clearly done the best at figuring out the RNS offense. They always seemed to know what was coming. THis is our chance.

  76. kev-1 January 6, 2012 10:54 am

UH had a tight end — Greg Salas, only he was labeled as a slotback. The scheme worked well in 2010, not so well in 2011. But inexperience and injuries did have a factor in that. It will be a difficult schedule this year, with road games against USC, BYU and San Diego State, and the home game against Boise. But it should be interesting. I look forward to seeing the development of Kody Afusia, Dave Lefotu, Sean Shigematsu, Jordan Loeffler and Frank Loyd.

It wasn’t only that Boise always knew what was coming. Our defense didn’t know what Boise would throw at them, too.

  83. d1shima January 6, 2012 11:28 am

re: Salas as de facto TE

Reported by the Blog Host awhile ago that a replant is coming home from Pocatello who would be a great candidate for replacing the Rams’ receiver.

Like I said a couple of days ago, I hope someone in Manoa is following up on that; the guy who convinced the former All-Stater to go to the Big Sky now has an area code in Ogden!

  84. kev-1 January 6, 2012 11:34 am

  87. madeinhawaii January 6, 2012 11:47 am

    d1shima,

They still pretty much ate us up… I had expected more from McMackin’s defenses against Boise. Offensively, against Boise in 2008, 2009, and 2010 we scored a whopping 7, 9, 7 points, respectively. Defensively we held them to … 27, 54, 42 points.

  88. 3-Prong January 6, 2012 12:04 pm

Yes its been a while since the Sugar Bowl year win against Boise.

  89. Derek January 6, 2012 12:15 pm

The way Koloamatangi was pancaking everybody on his highlight film I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s an immediate starter from his freshman year. He already has the height, and he can put on another 30 – 40 lbs. of muscle and get even stronger in 8 months. Lots of plate lunches with extra salad and rice.

With the grayshirts, that’s the chance you take. Now I’m wondering if Ellis Henderson is going to show up Monday for the start of the Spring semester and any other grayshirts out there. Who are the other guys? I assume Woolsey is here already.

  90. urbankid January 6, 2012 12:26 pm

  92. Graham January 6, 2012 12:41 pm

Word on the street is that Kapua Sai is coming home to play center

  93. BleedGreen808 January 6, 2012 12:47 pm

“Because of the coaching change at UH, it is not known if there will be a separate UH pro day, which used to be held a few weeks before the NFL draft, also at the Home Depot Center.”

I hope UH can get its act together and put something together for these athletes. Not a good way to reward your student athletes if UH can’t put together a UH pro day for them after all the hard work they have put in to the program imho.

Btw, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

  94. madeinhawaii January 6, 2012 12:49 pm

    Graham,

Wouldn’t he only have one year left after sitting out a year?

  95. madeinhawaii January 6, 2012 12:51 pm

Unless he can graduate by the end of summer.

  96. madeinhawaii January 6, 2012 12:52 pm

Oh wait.. he’s a junior this year.. already had a red shirt year, so he has to graduate to be able to play as a graduate student. Good luck to him… hope he makes it.

  97. 1sportsfan January 6, 2012 12:57 pm

The Boise head coach is making $2mil. He must be worth it because they rarely lose more than 2 games a year, if any, win without 5 star recruits, and win more than they lose against the BCS teams. Norm Chow, despite his stellar record and credentials is making a quarter of that amount but Hawaii will never pay $2mil for a head coach no matter how great the record may be.

  98. Derek January 6, 2012 1:01 pm

Good luck to Satele! But, for me, I don’t like the Cowboys. Mostly because of the owner. The players are okay. I liked Romo and I saw him when his Eastern Illinois team lost of UH at Aloha Stadium. He was very good, but for some reason in the NFL there is always something that happens to him that strange things occur whether it be a key fumble, muffed snap, interception, over throw pass, clock management, wherever. As long as Jerry Jones is the owner, which is probably until he dies, then I won’t root for Dallas. I think he meddles, he’s arrogant, and he’s probably a Republican too. I didn’t like Al Davis too, thus the Raiders. Now that he’s not there, I was actually rooting for the Raiders to beat the Chargers. If they did, they would be in the playoffs.

My picks for this weekend games:

    1) Steelers

    2) Bengals in an upset on the road

    3) Saints

    4) Giants (really a tossup to me), but the game is in New York).

    d1,

come on now, all is fair in love and war regarding your Pocatello player :), and the coach with the 801 area code is very excited to be closer to home, and is going to be working very hard to make an impact. i know the 808 boyz, especially the Crusaders on the team are very, very, excited……this could be the year….

Our Athletics Department isn’t very pro-active. Not like Boise where they quickly up Petersen’s contract by a sizeable amount because other schools are trying to poach him.

  105. Bowwar January 6, 2012 1:14 pm

#97 – Peterson is getting the BIG bucks because of his performance/records as well as their STATE is bankrolling the money because their football program is the State economy. Unfortunately for UH, we are the Big show in town, but not the only one. Besides, our State government doesn’t allocate any monies to the UH football program or the UH for that matter…

I wonder what UH “academics” grand, master plan is to build up the $$$ coffers?

If none, do they have the moxy to bitch and moan about athletics?

“Maybe, and maybe not” ( from Mircle on 34th Street ).

  107. kev-1 January 6, 2012 1:29 pm

Hmmm . . . Rauscher in attendance at the Vball game last night? Recruiting height? I’m not that familiar with the vball team. Anyone on the team you would like to see with pads on, catching passes?

You can’t lose something you never had. Gray who?

ST. also looking forward to the development of LB/DE Brandon Daley. He looked good in his video clip. With Art Laurel on one side, Brandon can really make a impact on the opposite side. And the same for DEs Yap and Woodard.

Speaking of snappers. As my grandfather would say: “wen spak” Luke Ingram earlier in the week.

Has a cast/sling thing on this left arm. I know ST reported arm issues with him all last season. Hope he’s ready to go in a few months.

    ST,

“Draft-eligible Warriors who played in 2011 will be allowed to participate.”

So does that mean that former Warrior OL Austin Hansen….who is draft-eligible….but didn’t play in 2011….won’t be allowed to participate?

Being from the OC, the Home Depot Center in Carson is only a 30 minute drive away for Austin.

  118. Dan-O January 6, 2012 2:06 pm

  122. Derek January 6, 2012 2:28 pm

I wouldn’t play Florida State unless it is a home and home series. Ideally, UH should schedule 13 games to take advantage of the Hawaii exception. Guranteed you will have 4 road conference games, with a total of 8 conference games. One home game should be against an FCS team. 2 other non-conference games on the road, hopefully in the Pacfic time zone such as a Pac 12 team or against former WAC teams like San Jose State, or Idaho, maybe even Utah State. Definitely a Pac 12 team is okay. And 2 other home games against non conference teams which could be a CUSA team, BYU, Army, Navy, or Notre Dame. If you get into a situation with having a conference title game between the champion of the MWC and the champion of CUSA then you are talking about the possibility of having a 14th game. In that case you won’t have the possibility of a bye week.

I wouldn’t be opposed to having Utah State join the Mountain West. They are competitive and getting better.

  123. Bugaz January 6, 2012 2:37 pm

Wooching is a big boy already. If he picks up a few more good pounds, could be deadly. We need full backs. Good offer and hope he chooses to stay home.

  124. ai-eee-soos January 6, 2012 2:37 pm

    Colt on campus …

” … Colt Brennan was on the University of Hawaii campus today (Thursday). The former Warriors star quarterback who was third in the Heisman race in 2007 said he plans to spend the spring here working out in hopes of making it to an NFL camp this year.

“One more shot at the NFL. If not, I can’t keep passing on the CFL,” said Brennan, who is now 28. … ”

per reardon’s blurb on SA home page.

  125. ai-eee-soos January 6, 2012 2:38 pm

It’s not contrived; the savior has arrived.

In Chow we trust; it’s championships or bust.

  127. Curt January 6, 2012 2:47 pm

    ai-eee-soos,

Thanks for the Colt update. Isn’t the Toronto Argonauts’ try out in Hawaii coming up soon? If so, I wonder if Colt is going to participate.

  128. Curt January 6, 2012 2:49 pm

Sark supposedly is a good recruiter. Hopefully, Chow is mo betta.

  129. Curt January 6, 2012 2:54 pm

I think Colt should participate in the Argonauts’ Hawaii tryout. Lot of fans here that could cheer him on. If he tries out on the mainland, there probably won’t be too many fans showing up there.

Even if Colt is interested in the NFL for now, he could leave a strong impression if tons of fans show up to cheer him on.

  130. ai-eee-soos January 6, 2012 2:54 pm

    # 127. A comment on reardon’s blurb (blog) indicate that the Argo’s coach might be

interested in the results of the workout, should Colt attend that workout.

But I don’t know if Colt knows about it. Somebody should tell Colt, perhaps Chad Owens himself?

  131. Curt January 6, 2012 2:56 pm

Maybe I should go out to Ching Field and help Colt work out. I’m fast as molasses and adept at catching colds.

  132. Curt January 6, 2012 3:00 pm

Someone, pls tell Colt of the tryouts. He probably knows but you never know. Then we can all show up and cheer him on…like the good ole days.

  133. mo808 January 6, 2012 3:17 pm

#124 This good news, I’m glad that he’s still in pursuit of playing FB. If he gets a look again from the NFL (planets will have to be aligned for that) I jope he makes it! But, i think that the CFL might just be the place for him.

  134. Slugger January 6, 2012 3:22 pm

  161. Kevin January 6, 2012 4:31 pm

  164. Ipu Man January 6, 2012 4:33 pm

Well, there is a UH botanical connection to Manoa Falls trail

which would lead them up a rain forrest. So maybe the best

way to show them the campus is to “overlook” it at roundtop

tantalus drive. Pretty impressive from there got to admit.

  169. Garret January 6, 2012 5:00 pm

    2009-2010 Academic Year financial information:

Government money to Boise State Athletics: $2.19 mil

Upper campus money to Boise State Athletics: $5.28 mil

Upper campus money to UH Athletics: $10.54 mil

Upper campus money *is* state funding from their state. UH gets more tax dollars than Boise State. The Hawaii Legislature isn’t allowed to specify how much tax money goes to UH Athletics, UH insists on autonomy, but the Legislature gives UH the money that UHAD needs.

    http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/ncaa-finances.htm

  170. Garret January 6, 2012 5:02 pm

Congratulations to Keith Lopati for getting his first head coaching job! I hope that UH can open a recruiting pipeline to his 5A school.

defensive coordinator Keith Lopati will take the reigns of the program. And the first-time head coach is looking forward to the opportunity.

Lopati is a Highland High graduate who played running back at the University of Hawaii. He joined the Panthers staff this past season, when the team went 6-6 and finished in the quarterfinals of the Class 5A tournament. West had one of the better defenses in the state, averaging less than 20 points allowed per game. He also coached on Highland’s defense for six seasons prior to joining the Panthers.

  173. Ralph January 6, 2012 5:22 pm

K State needs to jump start the 3rd qtr with a TD drive. Time to move the chains and close the gap to 19-16.

halftime adjustment..woot… Purple Pride on the move.

  175. whitey January 6, 2012 5:28 pm

looking ahead to the breakaway from the wac to the big west, there are some sports which the big west do not offer, so what will happen to those uh sports. for the men, they don’t have swimming and diving, but have track and field. for the women they don’t have sailing and swimming and diving.

  176. Ralph January 6, 2012 5:28 pm

🙂 let’s go defense….I hope they made their passing defense adjustments, they have done well all year long against the run.

  177. Ralph January 6, 2012 5:30 pm

K State defense and special teams have scored 80 TDs in the last 10 seasons. They screwed up on a KO, time to redeem themselves in the second half.

  178. Ralph January 6, 2012 5:33 pm

UH sailing is not in the WAC. It is a non scholarship sport but the sailors put in a lot of time in honing their skills. It is for the love of the sport, many thanks to the out of state sailors who come to Hawaii and represent us.

  180. whitey January 6, 2012 5:44 pm

it will be interesting to see when boise joins the wac for other sports if they fulfil their obligations to the wac. the wac don’t have wrestling, but have men’s soccer, gymnastics, and baseball. let see if benson kisses bsu arse and lets them get away without filling those sports.

  181. d1shima January 6, 2012 5:45 pm

  189. whitey January 6, 2012 5:55 pm

  190. Kevin January 6, 2012 6:04 pm

  191. whitey January 6, 2012 6:11 pm

kevin, at the same time uh get men’s swimming/diving and big west no more. possible change of sports for uh if they continue with the big west???

  199. madeinhawaii January 6, 2012 6:42 pm

Government money to Boise State Athletics: $2.19 mil

Upper campus money to Boise State Athletics: $5.28 mil

    $7.47 mil

Upper campus money to UH Athletics: $10.54 mil

Adjust for Cost Of Living (COLA) and I think Boise comes out ahead just a tad… But

Boise has 17 sports… Hawaii has 19, if you add sailing. UH also reserves 12-14 athletic scholarships for cheerleading… I don’t see any offered at Boise.

For a fairer assessment, one has to look at the disbursement on a program to program level. I suspect, though, that Boise has a lot more $$ from their boosters.

  200. d1shima January 6, 2012 6:43 pm

  224. Ralph January 6, 2012 7:59 pm

‘Cats pass defense hurt us again, same thing happened against Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, their passing killed us. Then again, the dline needed to get to the QB but they did hurry Wilson often enough to that the DBs should have covered better.

  225. Hiflyer January 6, 2012 8:00 pm

Oops! Saw another video of Jaydon Mickens. That one lists him as 5’11″…hopefully he’ll grow 4 or 5 more inches AFTER he gets here. 😛

  234. Chris Hart January 6, 2012 8:15 pm

OTOH, the Conversationalists are more discernible. 😉 😈 😀

It’s really a worthwhile experience. Good for families with kids, too. It brings responsibility, perhaps a first experience with a pet outside the realm of fish, and the value of giving the pet up for someone else (it definitely was my first time experiencing any sort of grief- my family raised a puppy when I was 8 or 9). diablo 3 gold

  255. Kevin January 6, 2012 8:47 pm

    Whitey,

Men’s Swimming and Diving is MPSF. No matter. No changes.

  256. Curt January 6, 2012 9:16 pm

    Chris Hart,

“someone we’ve all been waiting for to come to town… THAT’S ALL I CAN SAY!!!!”

Are you saying, Jesus is returning next Wednesday? 🙂

  257. Curt January 6, 2012 9:21 pm

    Chris,

You’re right. I think you’re in trouble…again. Gary Dickman is going to be all over you for that. 🙂

I think I can pretty much guess who and what. But just to save your okole, I won’t put my guess in writing. So everyone, let’s not get Chris in any more trouble than he already is.

  258. madeinhawaii January 6, 2012 9:23 pm

Warrior VB looked pretty flat tonight.. rather disappointing..

  259. Bugaz January 6, 2012 9:24 pm

Sounds more like Chris ruined it for BC. I think it’s Jim that will be all over Chris. Oh well thanks for adding to the excitement.

  260. Bugaz January 6, 2012 9:29 pm

Maybe going after receivers is an indication Rolo may be retained to create a hybred RMS PSOffense. Best of luck Coach

  261. Curt January 6, 2012 9:35 pm

I’m thinking that Stormin’ Norman will not retain any former assistant coaches even though some have stated that one or two may be retained. I think Miano had the most to offer and he was released.

  262. Chris Hart January 6, 2012 9:35 pm

HaHa – BC is not really into this hyping kinda stuff so he doesn’t care – “Jim” is outta the loop on this…

  263. Chris Hart January 6, 2012 9:38 pm

But – Since I am here… Neil Everett is going to have some kind of Pro Bowl Party at The Aulani with Pro Bowl Players the afternoon before the Pro Bowl – Don’t know if it’s private or not… Since i wrote several things tonoight can I be a tsaiko? I would really like to be…

  264. Curt January 6, 2012 9:38 pm

Jim is outta da loop but, you’re still in deep kim chee my friend.

  265. Chris Hart January 6, 2012 9:40 pm

    Curt – I no skaed!

  266. Curt January 6, 2012 9:41 pm

To be a Tsaiko, Chris, you have to go through a special hazing ritual. Any suggestions fellow Tsaikos?

  267. Curt January 6, 2012 9:43 pm

You’re not skaed cuz you don’t know watz goin’ to happen to u. 🙂

  268. TYaiea January 6, 2012 9:43 pm

Yeah Chris you’re officially a psycho…errr meant Tsaiko

  269. Chris Hart January 6, 2012 9:45 pm

hazing like going to the mall and carry Stephen’s shopping bags? LOL

  270. Curt January 6, 2012 9:53 pm

Carry Stephen’s shopping bags? Too lame. We need something more exciting or dangerous.

  271. Curt January 6, 2012 10:15 pm

Maybe we’ll duct tape you to one of UH’s tackling dummies. Then, all of the Tsaikos will practice our tackling technique on you for one hour. If you’re still alive after the Tsaikos and Tsaikettes get through with you, you get to treat us to dinner. Then after that, the chances are good that you’ll earn Tsaiko status. 🙂

  272. madeinhawaii January 6, 2012 10:20 pm

    Chris,

Chow-fun on the menu, eh? He hasn’t coached a single down in Manoa and already we’re roasting him, huh? Or is that out of the fire and into the pan?

  276. mikesmith January 6, 2012 11:02 pm

I don’t think Tony or Rolo will be retained, since they are getting paid until March, UHAD got some work out of them these past 2 weeks. I believe that the previous staff that is remaining, secretary included, are there as the transition team. Someone had to be in the office to hand Powell and Roush the keys to their office, someone had to brief the two young guys on the recruiting board, someone had to show them how to log on the video editing system to access film, someone had to give them a list of potential recruits, someone has to show them the facilities. There is a lot of stuff that had to be explained, the transition team provided an orientation. They will all get a face to face interview with NC but that might just be going through the motions out of respect. In the end I won’t be surprised if they all are gone. Coach Chow cleaning house.

  288. bighilofan2 January 7, 2012 5:56 am

    mikesmith

good morning. on the other hand, i think maybe Coach Chow will wait for his face to face before becoming judgmental.
