Saint Louis QB chooses Warriors

Saint Louis School quarterback Chevan Cordeiro has made a verbal commitment to play for the Warriors in 2018, Crusaders coach Cal Lee confirmed today.

Lee said Cordeiro, who will be a senior this coming academic year, told the UH coaches he will accept a 2018 scholarship.

Cordeiro was the primary understudy to Tua Tagovailoa the past two seasons. Tagovaiola enrolled at Alabama in January and competed in the Crimson Tide’s spring practice this past semester.

“He probably could have started anywhere else,” Saint Louis quarterbacks coach Vinny Passas said of Cordeiro. “He dedicated himself to getting bigger and stronger and faster.”

Passas said Cordeiro is 6 feet 1, 180 pounds and can clean 275 pounds.

“He can make all the throws — the short ones, the intermediate routes, and the deep balls,” Passas said. “He has the opportunity (this season) to really showcase the type of talent he has.”

Passas said Cordeiro is quiet but “leads by example. He tries to be the first one out there (on the field). He wants to be the first one in conditioning sprints. … He’s always physical in the weight room.”

Early in the season last year Coach Rolo said he hadn’t decided what to call their style of offense. I don’t think he ever chose one. Let’s suggest some names for the offense and defense for this season. How about Tsunami for either or both? Our Tsunami offense will inundate you. Our Tsunami defense will overwhelm and engulf you. Got any suggestions?

How about Pit Bull Defense, once we bite you we never let go. For offense Warrior air raid, the bombing will never stop so get ready to be lit up.

Warriors shining bright in the summer sun!

We had a nickname for the Warrior defense a few years ago – “The Manoa Poi Company. Just bring it, we’ll pound it!”

Good news about the Crusader QB! Welcome!

Thanks for the great pics. Jus trying to temper my enthusiasm this summer, but these pics with the players continuing their workouts to stay in condition will pay huge dividends in the 4th quarter and later in the season.

    RE: #4
The last time a coach came up with a catchy offensive name, I think he called it the “Hula-T” 🙂

    Aloha CC. 🙂

Tsunami sounds great for a nick name for the team.
Electric Eels might be good for the offense.

  16. iceebear May 30, 2017 5:22 pm

The only issue I would have with “tsunami” is that if there is ever a devastating natural one in Hawaii or a place like Japan again that “strikes close to home”, it could become “politically incorrect” to use.

  17. Ron May 30, 2017 5:34 pm

Miami dosen’t have a problem being the Hurricanes.

  18. Ipu Man May 30, 2017 6:21 pm

I remember thinking how odd it was to see the Kennedys on stage with Arnold when he won the California governorship.

So ideologically disparate the two sides.

If Tua Tagovailoa ever becomes the Crimson Tide starting QB, I’m going to transform from an Alabama hater to a Alabama lover.

It will be hard, but I don’t want their fans to blame the “Hawaiian kid” for destroying the program.

If Tagovailoa succeeds at Alabama, I don’t think we’ll ever see another blue chip local product ever commit to Hawaii.

All the major programs will be looking at the islands.
