Rollin’ in Vegas

LAS VEGAS — For the first time this season, the Warriors had a full practice at the site of a road game when they worked out at Sam Boyd Stadium.

Before arriving, UH’s equipment specialists raised the Hawaiian flag at the stadium.

    Go Bows!!!

  5. seewhy November 6, 2015 11:43 am

ST: Did you hit the tables yet?

  6. tom-warriornation November 6, 2015 11:51 am

Wouldn’t it be awesome if we can have Hawaii fans do something like this–and let’s do neon or bright green towel waving (since dark green towels will be hard to stand out)–these towels should be roughly 11 by 17 inches in size; and you can get these size towels at Ikea for $1.99:

seewhy, ST was winning at the poker machines. Said he had some black chips, but had to walk away to do the radio interview on the Bobby Curran Show at the California Hotel. You know, I cannot remember what else they discussed. I was thinking about the straight flush that be won before having to leave the machine.

  8. Jeezy33 November 6, 2015 12:04 pm

I see Tom evolving with the bright green towels

  9. Derek November 6, 2015 12:21 pm

No question that June Jones will be watching the 2 Division I playoff games today and tonight. In particular he wants to see Milton and Timoteo. I’m not sure if he can get Malepeai to change his mind if he gets the job. Is Padello a DI prospect? Tovio?

  10. seewhy November 6, 2015 12:52 pm

To anyone watching tonight’s Waianae vs. Baldwin game. Keep an eye on Baldwin’s Kahoohanohano-Davis. He has been a play maker all season!

  11. jeezy33 November 6, 2015 12:54 pm

    9. Padello is too small. Would be a good walk on type guy that can beat the odds possibly and earn a scholarship.

I hope June offers Bradlee Anae and Alema Kapoi if he does get the job.

  12. jeezy33 November 6, 2015 12:55 pm

    10. Does Baldwin have a chance?

  13. Makai November 6, 2015 1:18 pm

Go get um boys it’s all about playing with pride now.

To all the Hawaii fans that went to Vegas: good luck at the machines and tables! Hope someone gets lucky.

  14. cocobean November 6, 2015 1:20 pm

#11. Was that a slip[ of the tongue hoping June offers two two guy or do you have inside information no one else has.

  15. Paper Crane November 6, 2015 1:22 pm

@Derek n jee33,..wouldn’t that be a blessing foremost for JJ only; yet JJ would best do as a free agent head coach specializing only as a mentor for high school QB’s; like his old school instructions nowadays will do great in one on one coaching like that’s where he should stay put but between St. Louis, Punahou, and Mililani he’ll be more then busy that’s for sure;…next best thing for JJ is a scouting for prospect at the next level in football and so JJ returning to his old job at UH isn’t anymore his old job so he can forget the selfish U-turning;..interesting huh?

  16. Frannyk November 6, 2015 1:23 pm

Recruits can possibly be lured by a new coach and his philosophy.

Those local recruits that have already committed to other programs would be difficult to sway because our program has yet to prove itself. But it would be interesting to see if JJ can convince those who haven’t committed as yet to come to UH.

  17. FearGod November 6, 2015 1:29 pm

Gotta believe some kids that have already decided to go elsewhere maybe changing their minds if JJ gets the job. These boys was 8-10 years old when the fan base here was going nuts during those years, these kids were running these routes in the park with dad & mom saying that’s my,

  18. Former UH Athlete November 6, 2015 1:30 pm

I heard Milton would only get limited reps since this would be his first game back and that they are very heavy favorites over Hilo??

  19. Warbow November 6, 2015 1:31 pm

BTW, it’s been reported that Pat Hill took his name out of the hat.

    We want Dino Babers!

  20. Derek November 6, 2015 1:38 pm

My heart is always with Hawaii, but my head says UNLV. #1 Hawaii is 0fer on the road.#2 UNLV is playing with revenge from last year’s loss.#3 LV QB Decker is better than anything we have. #4 LV has been a lot more competitive in the MW. #5 Hawaii can’t run the ball and that spells trouble. #6 we don’t throw the ball that well either. If you want to play Hawaii better to play either a teaser or super teaser. If you think Hawaii can win maybe the money line will give you better value. Otherwise, on a straight bet or parlay I’d take the Rebels. JMHO. Good luck to ya!

  21. FearGod November 6, 2015 1:42 pm

“Good Luck” the number one jinx

  22. seewhy November 6, 2015 1:44 pm

    12.

Hi Jeezy. To be honest, I don’t think so. Although they are a completely different team than they were at the beginning of the season.

  23. Derek November 6, 2015 1:52 pm

Milton will play because he’s been off and needs live action and some good reps. York is targeting him to start and ready to go for St. Louis and after that play and beat Kahuku in the championship game. Mark my words, Milton is the best player in the State, by far, since Marcus Mariota. He production is amazing. York said Milton can do 4 reads on one play to find the open receiver. Unless he’s throwing smoke, that is very rare for a high school QB. If so, thanks Coach York for training him. Mililani all the way.

  24. Casual Observer November 6, 2015 1:55 pm

UNLV is definitely a winnable game. Like all games, it depends on the performance of the offense. Woolsey is a different kind of QB than Wittek and offers the run threat and therefore can extend the play, sustain drives. Naole might be able to squeeze out that little extra effort and belief that often is the difference in winning or losing. If the O can get going, the D will play tougher. Good luck to the Bows!

  25. Paper Crane November 6, 2015 2:07 pm

OK to some peeps,..like let’s get back to todays game and support Head Coach Chris Naeole and Inc;…like leave JJ with all his high school attention. Go Warriors!!!

  26. kapakahi November 6, 2015 2:17 pm

Watched the Nevada @ Fresno State game on ESPN2 last night. Even with a competitive game in the 1st half, the Bulldogs were MIA.

JMHO but the crowd looked more sparse than the crowd at the UH-AFA game.

  27. kapakahi November 6, 2015 2:19 pm

Meant to say that…..the Bulldog fans were MIA.

  28. Da Punchbowl Kid November 6, 2015 2:35 pm

    C’mon gangeez! You got this!

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  29. Shoko November 6, 2015 2:58 pm

Not sure what to expect this weekend, but I’m sure curious about how Naeole’s way of doing things along with a hard-nosed approach will transfer to the field. Guess we’ll find out tomorrow.

  30. Andrew November 6, 2015 3:02 pm

Out of these last four games, I really just hope they smash Fresno. Would be nice if they won all four games, but honestly to me they could lose the rest of the games, but as long as they smash Fresno I would be happy.

  31. Old School Dave November 6, 2015 3:05 pm

Best of luck to Coach Naeole and the Rainbow Warriors!! Lots of football remaining this season. Need to focus on the job at hand. Another week. Another opponent. Seniors playing for pride. Underclassmen playing or auditioning for the next staff.

  32. hitmanhart November 6, 2015 3:24 pm

aloha everyone !! best luck Rainbow Warriors!! hope we win in a blow out for the kids !! and all get to play !! would be nice to see some trick plays !! a qb set ? lol

  33. Makai November 6, 2015 3:27 pm

Sorry Warbow we don’t have the paper to buyout Dino from Bowling Green and pay him salary at UH. Look for the free agent hire like June or Miano or a coordinator from another school.

  34. '07 Warrior November 6, 2015 3:54 pm

ST, in your last post you sympathized with the coaching staff, pointing out the “fragile security” of the profession. While I understand and appreciate your unwavering compassionate views on our football team, compassion and pleasantries don’t win football games. It’s like this blog is afraid to be harsh!! Successful football teams play with fire and passion and their fans demand such and match it with their support. UH is unfortunately far from that. Too many of our fans forgive too much and donate too little. We must demand excellence from our university and ourselves. These coaches know what the deal is; JUST WIN. And they’ve been losing regularly for 5 years. I’m glad we’re cleaning house and hopefully we can make a decent football HC hire for the first time since last century (1999). Hope we can remain positive, united, and demanding excellence as a fan base!! GO BOWS!

  35. Jon November 6, 2015 4:05 pm

Not sure if I want June Jones to get the job but I’ll say this: Milton is the Real Deal and would be amazing in the run and shoot with Jones. If Milton were 2 inches taller everyone in the country would be after him. He’s about 5’11” or 6′ and is a legit Division 1 athlete.

  36. Jeezy33 November 6, 2015 4:50 pm

    14. Nope. That’s a if he gets hired.

  37. wow November 6, 2015 4:54 pm

No one better have anything but positive things to say on this blog! How dare any of you have a negative opinion of anything that’s transpired in the Ath. Dep. or upper campus?? ST, is this not a suitable forum to express concerns?? Are we supposed to pretend that everything is okie dokie??! I’m sure this (also) won’t make it passed your rose colored editors glasses but I think your’e softer than cookie dough and we need a writer to cover UH football who is capable of critical thinking!! (and sometimes maybe have a harsh opinion (gasp!!)

  38. cocobean November 6, 2015 4:57 pm

jeezy. I read your whole post but couldn’t resist pulling your chain a bit. You could have said whoever gets the job or any other name but I was surprised you said if June got the job. Are you softening your stance on ABJ?

  39. z November 6, 2015 5:21 pm

    Go get em Coach Chris!

    Go get em Warriors!

Run Ikaika run. You can. Run to victory.

  40. seewhy November 6, 2015 5:58 pm

Happy Aloha Friday. It’s Tirsty Time!

  51. seewhy November 6, 2015 7:31 pm

    43.

Go for it! Crowded tables = hot tables.

  52. pokesquid November 6, 2015 7:32 pm

    33…

I hope he comes to Hawaii and plays in Jones system…I think he would fit in very well.

As for his size…he reminds me of that stud QB Kellen Moore from Boise State, who was about the same size as him…Just like Kellen, he has an accurate arm, fast reads and quick release.

The one thing I believe Milton has over Moore is that he is a way better runner…But of course Moore’s reads and release was so quick that he didn’t have to run at all.

  53. FearGod November 6, 2015 7:40 pm

crowded tables= more money for the house hehe

  54. seewhy November 6, 2015 8:20 pm

Not if you hold your own. 😉

  55. cocobean November 6, 2015 8:39 pm

    Z. Woolsey is fast, he’s reputed to out lift all the other skill players but to me he’s not a good runner. He doesn’t seem to have the running instinct or savvy to know when the best time to take off is. Maybe he’s following instructions to hang in there who knows. I think he’d be okay if it’s some kind of designed run a QB draw or bootleg around the end or called run off a read option look or if the coaches emphasized he has the green light if he sees an opening. He has the speed and strength he should learn how o use it.

  56. Willie November 6, 2015 8:57 pm

That looks like some real ono post practice grinds looks like fried fish or chicken. Hyrum Peters, now that is a name from the past. His hair is a lot longer than in his playing days.

Continue to be impressed each time I see SJSU in action. So far tonight they are playing favored BYU tough. They have good overall team speed on both sides of the ball. The QB is accurate with zip, got a real food shifty RB and the receivers got good hands; key here is that they predominantly use their hands to catch the ball. On offense they have multiple formations with a lot of motion and sets. Don’t see the Warriors being favored in this one.

  57. Bryson November 6, 2015 9:08 pm

Thank you for the game time info Poke Squid and Akamai

  58. NorthShoreFan November 6, 2015 9:10 pm

dang it, should have taken them to the buffet at one of the hotel/casinos. that thing he eating is a mystery to me….hehehe…

  59. seewhy November 6, 2015 9:11 pm

    Hilo vs. Mililani game a complete blow out… 0 – 41 Half

  60. seewhy November 6, 2015 9:16 pm

    Half time stats:
Pass M. Milton 170 yds 2 TD (quarter and a half)
    Rush V. Malepeai 126 yds 2 TD
    Rec K. Timoteo 7 Rec 77 yds 1 TD

  61. cappie the dog November 6, 2015 9:50 pm

If anybody guesses the score right, would anybody be interested in a 16-year-old Beagle with dementia and eats poop?

It’s tough having three dogs when they didn’t grow up together.

My other two dogs are a Black German Shephard, and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel(that’s the real cappie).

    They’re rescues.

I have nice neighbors. They rationalize, “Oh, at least our houses won’t get robbed.”

  62. seewhy November 6, 2015 10:01 pm

I had a King Charles Spaniel too! She was so sickly though… Only lived for 7 years…

  63. seewhy November 6, 2015 10:05 pm

    SJSU lost a close one… 17 – 16 BYU Final
Scored on a run with 0:45 left. Went 2pt. con. for the win… Failed.

  64. pokesquid November 6, 2015 10:07 pm

Damn, our athletes need to be eating better than that…I mean common on!…French fries and some kind of fried thing for a post workout meal.

You mean to tell me that whomever is in charge to feed them couldn’t plan or find some healthier alternative to feed them…I am sorry but what you put in your body will show up on the field.

Seeing that, I am even more glad a new regime is coming in.

  65. akuhead2 November 6, 2015 10:41 pm

    64. Maybe new regime feed them poke and squid.

  66. pokesquid November 6, 2015 10:55 pm

Along with the poi and brown rice…but no shoyu for them.

  67. akuhead2 November 7, 2015 12:10 am

Too much shoyu, can’t sleep. Auwe.

  68. pokesquid November 7, 2015 1:40 am

    67…

Not only that…if you ingest to much salt and cholesterol, your body will retain a lot of water and thus making you heavier, sluggish and slower.

How can we win games if our players are eating that kind of CRAP FOOD!?

To play like Champions YOU gotta eat and train like Champions…And don’t give me that shit about no more money…In that city you can easily find solid healthier foods to feed our athletes.

This is just another example of mediocre people doing a mediocre job and just showing up for a paycheck.

    God Damn It!

Take pride in your work and take care of our athletes, or get the F out…These guys bust their butts day in and day out and you want to feed them CRAP FOOD!

    What is up with that!?

French fries and some kind of fried thing….looks like Fish and Chips…News flash…That is what those fat-ass Britain’s eat…Oh My God!

Who ever bought or scheduled that kind of food to be given to our athletes should be fired, immediately!…I mean how did you feel after you ate oil based fried foods like that?…EXACTLY!….You felt like crap.

You know what, I am done ranting…But before I go, I just want to state for the record that I wouldn’t even feed that shit to my dog.

    This is really disturbing!

PS: Some of you may be thinking that it’s just food…No, No, No…This is not just about food and a meal…This is about PAYING ATTENTION TO THE DETAILS.

The little things do matter and the little things is what can make a difference between winning and losing….Believe That!

  69. FearGod November 7, 2015 2:50 am

not to worry..starters was on the buffet line indoors pounding on the salad bar..backups had to sit outside with that fish and chips

  70. pokesquid November 7, 2015 3:43 am

    FearGod…

LOL…those back-ups, I believe is on our dime also my friend…and they should still be taken care of like all the rest/best we have, regardless.

Fish and Chips for a post practice meal…WTF!….In a city like Las Wages, you can get $2.99 for a big ass healthier steak and eggs and other types of healthier foods….But you feed out athletes this kind of food….WTF was these guys thinking?

You know what, I am done……Frick….I like punch someone in their face right now!

  71. FearGod November 7, 2015 3:48 am

i wonder who took that pic..must be a tourist…or might be a kamaaina

  72. pokesquid November 7, 2015 3:51 am

    puckin UH.

  73. FearGod November 7, 2015 4:00 am

If UH wins today, deep fried fish and chips the last three games on the menu

  74. FearGod November 7, 2015 4:07 am

The Warriors save more by using the Hale Aloha cafeteria for their three training table meals each day instead of eating in the Stan Sheriff Center.

The breakfast menu includes omelets and sausages. The players consume 20 dozen eggs each morning. For dinner, each player is encouraged to order at least two selections from a menu of beef stew, meat loaf, grilled steak, roast turkey, grilled fish and rotisserie chicken. There is a full salad bar. The dessert tray includes ice cream, cake and pies. Snacks are served after the nightly meetings.

“They won’t go hungry,” assistant coach Ron Lee said.

  75. pokesquid November 7, 2015 4:26 am

    73…FearGod

    I no shit you.

If UH wins, then all the Fish and Chips guys/girls going say “Eh you no can talk shit”….LOL!

The only people who should be eating that kind of shiat is the media (no offense ST) and the over-weight coaches who stop giving a shiat about their health.

  76. cappie the dog November 7, 2015 6:01 am

If Hawaii wins out, I’m going to take a day off from being an animal rights activist and eat a Filet-O-Fish sandwich from McDonalds.

    What I miss most.

    1. Boneless Chicken plate from Rainbow Drive-In
    2. Pastrami/Corn Beef sandwiches.
    3. Lau Lau from Ono Hawaiian Food/or Young’s Fish Market
    4. Taco Bell menu.
    5. Kentucky Fried Chicken menu.

Funniest sign on TV I ever saw was during a Butler/Canisus game. An opposing fan held up a sign that read, “Not Even Sarah McLachlan Can Save These Dogs”

  77. Old School Dave November 7, 2015 7:18 am

Hope this is just “a snack” and the team returned to their hotel for a “decent meal.” Still, beats those grilled-cheese sandwiches served to Larry Price’s team before they played BYU in 74, that nearly caused a riot among the players. Players need to eat well and fuel up in this day and age. Competitive edge is down to things that were once not taken seriously.

    GO RAINBOW WARRIORS!!

  78. Old School Dave November 7, 2015 7:19 am

In Vegas, get plenty “Chuckwagon” kind places for eat, yeah?

  79. Aku Head November 7, 2015 7:21 am

    Good Luck Warriors!

  80. Shoko November 7, 2015 7:46 am

Those post-workout meals look like they came from those small mom-and-pop deli’s that sell pizza, calzones, hot chicken wings/fingers, spaghetti, lasagna etc.) located all over Vegas.

  81. Shoko November 7, 2015 7:49 am

I’m thinking dinner was probably a little more balanced and healthier in replenishing the glucose storage in preparation for today’s game.

  82. 808warriorfan November 7, 2015 8:01 am

    GO ‘BOWS … Play for Pride … bring back a “W” …
