  32. Wes'side Warrior July 3, 2012 6:01 am

Here’s something I just posted on the Tsai-kos, Georgia Chaptah page:

Howzit, everyone! Wish the rest of you could’ve made it out to the game this past Sunday! Bryant Moniz lit it up! What a fun game that was!

Anywayz, just got off the phone with Mr. Andy Haskell, Senior Director of Team Operations of the Georgia Force. He’s trying to get together a bunch of seats just for a “Hawaii Section”!!! I need a good, solid count of who will show up for the final regular season home game on the 14th of July. The sooner we can give him a total, the better. He will work out a discounted price, and we’d have to pay early, and pick it up from him in WillCall at the Box Office on game day.

For your information… former UH Warrior, Mike Washington, is the Power’s #1 Wide Receiver! So, we’ll have two boyz to cheer for. Of course, the home team gets more love, though.

So please… as soon as you can figure out who is coming with you, please give me a head count. At the moment, he has 74 seats that we can claim as a section, and he can move people around if we need more space!

He’s also working on creating a “Hawaii Section” for us for next season, so we can all sit together. We need to think about a section to claim if we go with season tickets. Just food for thought…

    Aloha! ~Bruddah D

Spread da word! We need a huge, Warrior Green crowd!!!

  33. Stephen Tsai July 3, 2012 6:02 am

They’re holding a scholarship for Faalologo. He’s awaiting clearance, too.

If there’s too much of a delay on Allen, he’ll grayshirt.

  34. LizKauai (iPad) July 3, 2012 6:06 am

    Mahalo, ST. Study hard, Warriors!

    Go Force! What fun!

So- dvr is set to capture the Firefly marathon tomorrow onSciFi…. Speaking of tv…

  40. bigislandkurt July 3, 2012 6:29 am

    Yes! Some football scoops!

    @ #20 Re: AA degrees

Sounds like those players are in the summer session at their respective junior colleges. Typically, the summer terms end at or around the ending of July. The registrar then will need to confirm the degree. Don’t think these boys will be out here before camp starts.

    BIK

  41. Dennis Halloran July 3, 2012 6:31 am

Rats… just tossed my cookies and cleared my cache. Just to be safe even though I’m on a Mac. Looks like a PC email worm is making the rounds–apparently from a hijacked email account of a mainland Tsai-ko.

This one has no subject line and a URL. Must be an oldie. Obviously, do not click on the link. If this is a variation of the oldies, you are redirected to another site, which is usually innocuous or a decoy. The redirecting site may be doing the mischief, like setting nasty cookies, etc. or other things in the OS.

A-House — nevertheless, he is a Tsai-ko and the master of his own tailgate/grill which they had many years before the blog started.

…and I know he don’t share grilling duties 👿 🙂 — which is part of the scenerio (3) I omitted from yesterdays explanation (Comment #161 – click here).

It’s a good thing for your sake that you can….while others have clearly demonstrated otherwise.

  93. gigi-hawaii July 3, 2012 11:32 am

Well, it’s a good thing Kekoa is picking hubby and me up, because we have no clue where Hale Ikena is.

  94. gigi-hawaii July 3, 2012 11:33 am

Hope it doesn’t rain tomorrow. We want to bbq some New York steaks. That gas grill hasn’t been used in years, so looks like we will have to shake the propane tank to make it work.

  95. gigi-hawaii July 3, 2012 11:38 am

Daughter is in Nevada for graduate school. She told me she paid only $20 for her car registration over there. Here in Hawaii, it would have cost over $200. Nevada goes by the age of the car not the weight.

  96. kapakahi July 3, 2012 11:39 am

    #94,

Bone-in ribeye steaks on sale at Times for about half-price until today.

  100. A-joe July 3, 2012 11:51 am

gigi- gambling brings in so much revenue that Nevada doesn’t sweat over the little taxes like car registration. The $20 simply pays for the cleric’s time to record the info in the database and the occasional supply of office doughnuts. =)

    FUNESHIGE!

  101. kapakahi July 3, 2012 11:53 am

Reading this information So i’m satisfied to show that I have a very just right uncanny feeling I came upon just what I needed. I such a lot surely will make sure to don?t overlook this website and give it a glance on a constant basis.

  109. kapakahi July 3, 2012 12:10 pm

Bought my bone-in ribeye steaks from Liliha Square Times this morning.

Just double-checked the Time add again. Add says “Sterling Silver USDA Choice Rib Roast or Steak Bone-In” for $6.99 per lb. through tomorrow (not today).

    Can’t beat that!

  110. gigi-hawaii July 3, 2012 12:13 pm

  111. d1shima July 3, 2012 12:23 pm

    For you Dodger fans,

My favorite Rap skit is Aunty Marialani’s cooking show! Cracks me up.

  113. gigi-hawaii July 3, 2012 1:09 pm

The comedy biz is really difficult. Frank DeLima performed at hubby’s company meeting and confessed that he was deeply depressed for 10 years after his gig in Waikiki folded.

Then towards the end of that period, he woke up and began to do private gigs and sell his DVDs.

I guess he’s doing better now with his CAB commercials.

  114. al July 3, 2012 1:10 pm

how did i know that gigi had no clue about ajoe’s shoutouts?

  115. gigi-hawaii July 3, 2012 1:10 pm

  118. al July 3, 2012 1:14 pm

  127. Shoko July 3, 2012 1:32 pm

If Frank had Type II Diabetes, most doctors would put him on a restricted diet along with a not-so rigorous exercise regimen. They normally drop alot of weight intially then begin to stablize after awhile. They have to monitor their blood-sugar constantly. My Dad was Type II and he lost alot of weight, which was good cause he was a bit overweight. I dunno, but there seems to be more Type II nowadays that mostly coincide with people that are considered overweight. Thats what I’ve noticed.

Sam Choy lost quite a bit of weight as well. However, I don’t know if he was diagnosed with Diabetes. At least its not Type I where you have to take insulin shots. Friend had to have his leg amputated due to poor circulation.

Now, on to the more important topic. RIBEYE STEAK! My wife and I usually go to this butcher and have steaks cut at the time of purchase. Usually inch and a half for grilling. But, never got it for less than 12.99 up here.

  128. gigi-hawaii July 3, 2012 1:33 pm

Everybody should own a business because it’s a great way to deduct biz expenses from your taxes.

This is important because we dont have mortgage interest to deduct anymore.

  129. gigi-hawaii July 3, 2012 1:36 pm

Shoko: inch and a half is really thick. Once we bought chateaubrian from Costco. Da bugga was so thick, it was raw in the middle after we bbq’d it for a long time.

Wate we should’ve done is close the grill cover.

  130. gigi-hawaii July 3, 2012 1:38 pm

Shoko: not all fat people are diabetic, and not all diabetics are fat.

Take me for instance. I am fat, but doctor told me even if I lose weight my glucose score will still be the same. 93-101 range

  131. Shoko July 3, 2012 1:40 pm

    Gigi,

Did you let it sit outside till it got to room temperature? Once you sear it on both sides, you have to watch it constantly or the buggah will burn. Took me several times to get it right and alot of kala!

  132. gigi-hawaii July 3, 2012 1:41 pm

OK, hubby agreed to buy the ribeye at Times tomorrow morning. Hope it’s as good as you say it is.

  133. gigi-hawaii July 3, 2012 1:43 pm

Shoko: next time I will do that. Do you use a marinade on yours?

  134. Shoko July 3, 2012 1:45 pm

Well, thats true. But it seems to me, and I’m no doctor, but friends and family that are Type II were usually overweight. But I agree, not all diabetics are overweight. Such is the case with Type I. Whereas Type II, its usually related to weight issues.

  135. Shoko July 3, 2012 1:46 pm

Yes, I do marinade at times. Just last weekend I used a balsamic marinade. Was ono!

  136. iwonderwhytheyhateme July 3, 2012 1:46 pm

I remember reading a while back on some forums that Chow passed on some QB’s that may have had some interest in transferring to UH. This was before the heini-gate controversy. Are we looking for another QB for 2012 or are we pretty much set on what we have so far?

  137. Shoko July 3, 2012 1:47 pm

Be right back. I’m cooking dinner now. And no, its not steak. 🙁

  138. al July 3, 2012 1:48 pm

best ny steaks on oahu are at the kapahulu safeway.

us choice butcher cut 1 1/2 to 2 inches. they actually take the time to further age their butcher cuts an additional period at the store.

grilled steaks need to “rest” at least 7 minutes or more before slicing and dicing.

  139. al July 3, 2012 1:50 pm

a compound butter will enhance your steaks everyday.

  140. mo808 July 3, 2012 1:52 pm

Al, I think we need to raise it, trouble is trying to collect it. 🙁

  141. Shoko July 3, 2012 1:55 pm

Speaking of compound butter for steaks, I was watching this food show called, “Kimchee Chronicles” where they made a kimchee compund butter for some steaks. I thought that was unusual, but piqued my interest enough to actually try it.

  142. gigi-hawaii July 3, 2012 2:00 pm

boy, using compound butter would lead to burning. The fat would drip into the fire and cause it to leap up. What level do you place the rack in the grill?

  143. Shoko July 3, 2012 2:05 pm

Usually put the butter after it pau cook. The residual heat melts it coating the steak. Ono!

  144. Shoko July 3, 2012 2:06 pm

Normally the first level to sear. If you’re going to walk away from the grill, I would suggest you rise it up a bit as not to burn.

  145. WarriorNY July 3, 2012 2:06 pm

Oh man.. You guys are getting me hungry… I’m making some lamb chops, mash potatoes and asparagus…

I think Tsaiko’s should create a cook book.

  146. gigi-hawaii July 3, 2012 2:12 pm

WarriorNY: lamb chops? Ono. I had lamb curry at Monsoon India restaurant in Waikiki.

  147. gigi-hawaii July 3, 2012 2:15 pm

Wish I could invite some friends over for the bbq tomorrow, but I am fighting a cold.

  148. WarriorNY July 3, 2012 2:26 pm

    Gigi,

Lamb is so tasty… Next time you get Indian, be sure to try Lamb Saag (lamb and spinach curry)…so tasty!

Feel better and Enjoy your BBQ!

Times Sterling Silver bone-in rib eye roast is da winna! At $6.99/lb you can’t go wrong. Ala Meat Market on Waiakamilo St. sells rib eye roast at $12.99/lb. Although it’s the top grade. Times Sterling Silver is just as good. Cook the bugga at 500 degrees (weight of meat x 5.0 = minutes to cook) then turn off oven and let sit for 2 hrs. Perfect pink color in the middle. Guarans!

  152. oldie July 3, 2012 2:51 pm

Gigi #126 – you should file. We have a property that wasn’t rented for several years. Tax Office sent a delinquency notice several years later.

Thanks to whoever first posted about the Times ribeye special.

Oldie: OK, I will file mine.

  154. Opulicious July 3, 2012 2:57 pm

Amen! Good Times with Sterling Silver.

  155. Manoa Mist July 3, 2012 2:59 pm

Nice list of players coming in. There’s a lot of talent in that group. Can’t wait to see what Chow and crew come up within the next few years.

  161. al July 3, 2012 3:25 pm

i used that high fire method before. my preference is to bring the roast to room temp before cooking. then, 325 for 20 minutes then 250 over the next 1 1/2 hours if boneless. let em rest and then enjoy.

  162. al July 3, 2012 3:27 pm

another great piece to roast is a whole top sirloin. trim the underside sinew first. slow roast. use an meat thermometer for this one. carve against the grain.

    broke mout.

    also, half the cost.

how long can you age beef?

    does beef ever spoil?

long ago, okay, long, long ago i had this summer job at a local meat processor for most of the popular restaurants in town. his bonus to his employees would typically be a case of beef, normally some type steak, that he’d have the butchers cut up for everyone to take home.

okay, his generosity was limited to meat that was lost in the corner of the walk in chillbox. the smell of old blood would permeate the plant and the bowels of your olfactory senses, for days. once they were green, yah, warrior green. he told us it was still good just make teriyaki. so i did and marinated with an extra dose of bourbon.

unreal. it tasted real good and no need knife.

so yah, beef no spoil only age.

  168. jack July 3, 2012 3:41 pm

    al,

Believe me that I wasn’t the one dishing out the scolding last Friday.

Just happened to know who was getting the scolding…..and from whom…..since my buddy works for HNN.

Lesson learned here is that…..not a good thing to leak info…..that the man himself specifically asked not to be leaked. Go ask Stretch….cuz he was there last Tuesday night too.

Otherwise, always try to share info with discreet….as each source delineates.

  172. WarriorNY July 3, 2012 3:54 pm

Sean Schroeder is accepted into UH grad program… I guess our two man race for starting QB just turned into a 3 man race…

I really hope Graves can up his game under center cuz if not, Schroeder will take over the starting spot… And with Graham and Zwahlen coming in next year, the competition will only get harder… Good luck to all of the QB’s and lets hope competition brings the best out of all of them….

  173. ai-eee-soos July 3, 2012 4:06 pm

    as 172 said, above ….

Quarterback Sean Schroeder (Duke) and center Kapua Sai have been accepted into UH’s graduate school and will be eligible to play for the Warriors this season.

Each has two years of eligibility remaining.

Schroeder, who arrived in town this afternoon, said he grew up as a USC fan, and marveled at the offense when Norm Chow was the Trojans’ offensive coordinator. Sai said he wanted to return home for “family reasons.” His brother, Kiha Sai, will be a UH freshman this year.

    see ST’s header ….

  174. Shoko July 3, 2012 4:10 pm

I’m more concerned about the Warriors O-line than QB at the moment. If the line is a weakness, they might need a QB thats quick and can get out of tight situations. But, if the O-line comes together like the Great Wall of China, then I not too worried. 😉

  175. ai-eee-soos July 3, 2012 4:11 pm

    Good news

AND each has two years of eligibility remaining: Quarterback Sean Schroeder (Duke) and

center Kapua Sai have been accepted into UH’s graduate school and will be eligible to play

    for the Warriors this season.

  176. Shoko July 3, 2012 4:13 pm

How come people mention local comedians like Rap and Frank, but they don’t talk about Andy Bumatai. That guy was funny.

  177. ai-eee-soos July 3, 2012 4:15 pm

ST’s article in the headline news:

    UH accepts 2 football transfers

    By Steven Tsai

    POSTED: 03:57 p.m. HST, Jul 03, 2012

    Share

Quarterback Sean Schroeder and offensive lineman Kapua Sai have been accepted into the University of Hawaii’s graduate school and will be eligible to play for the Warriors this football season.

Schroeder was at Duke the past three years and Sai, a Saint Louis School graduate, played for Utah last year.

They are using an NCAA rule that allows a player who has earned a bachelor’s degree to transfer to another school without sitting out a season. The NCAA requires a football player without a degree to redshirt for a year before being eligible to play for his next school.

UH head coach Norm Chow said Schroeder will compete for the starting quarterback’s job. Last year’s starting quarterback, Bryant Moniz, completed his eligibility. David Graves and Jeremy Higgins were bracketed as the top quarterbacks after spring training in April.

Chow said Sai will compete at center.

  178. Da Punchbowl Kid July 3, 2012 4:29 pm

perhaps, i may have fueled the fire a bit so someone jumped the gun and got his wrist slapped.

  181. mo808 July 3, 2012 4:51 pm

I’m sooo glad for UH! Competition is healthy! Welcome to Schroeder & Sai! With three QBs I’m feeling a little better and add to that another offensive lineman! Cheehoo!

  182. sdbowfan July 3, 2012 5:16 pm

Hopefully the Sai brothers on the offensive line. Kinda reminds me of the Ball brothers of UCLA and the famous “Twin Ball Sack”

  183. kapakahi July 3, 2012 5:36 pm

Main thing is….that Schroeder got accepted into UH’s graduate school and will be joining the Warriors for this upcoming season.

No harm no foul for the Warrior team….unlike for some others.

  187. Stephen Tsai July 3, 2012 6:54 pm

Kapakahi is correct in the fallout from last week.

Schroeder wasn’t a secret. It had been talked about for more than a month. And last week, it was told at Na Koa’s fund-raiser.

UH didn’t want any premature publicity on it because the school was making an exception in reviewing Schroeder’s application. There was a time issue because UH needed Schroeder approved before the start of training camp on Aug. 1. If officials felt they were being pressured, then they could delay the process.

People were asked to wait a few days until it was official. But, alas . . .

Andy Bumatai is one of Hawaii’s best comedians ever. And yes, he is still funny and still very much relevant. A true blue “stand up” comic. But could also sink into the sketch comedy too. Remember High School Dayze or All in the Ohana?
