Rocky ‘n’ Rolo

COLORADO SPRINGS — The Warriors arrived on the Rocky Mountains this morning following a red-eye flight from Honolulu to Denver, and then the 85-mile drive to Colorado Springs.

The Warriors are scheduled to practice this evening.

No wonder the receivers and quarterbacks have a good relationship. There are five high school quarterbacks playing receiver this season: Makoa Camanse-Stevens, Davine Tullis, John Ursua, Keelan Ewaliko and Dylan Collie. Well, make that four. Tullis moved to defensive back this week.

As an Oak Ridge High (El Dorado, Calif.) senior, Collie played the final six games at quarterback after the starter was injured.

“We ran pro style,” Collie said. “I took five-step drops and tried to get it out.”

Collie added: “I wasn’t very good at it, but let me tell you, it was a blast. I could throw about two balls. I could throw the quick slant and I could throw the deep ball. It was fun.”

I had made the suggestion of Tullis moving to DB in a previous post and looks like my suggestion was accurate. Great ball skills and speed will hopefully give the defense a boost if he gets a chance to play.

Cripple Creek is stuck away in the low mountains of Colorado – a very small town with about 20 commercial buildings and a casino in 10 or 11 of them — in all the casinos I went in to collect $1 and $5 chips/coins — only 3 people playing the machines

we stopped to visit the Air Force academy which completed my bucket list to visit all 3 academies — like West Point, it’s in a secluded forest area, but a beautiful campus.

the drive was beautiful as the aspen leaves were brilliant yellow gold and the maples were turning amber/red — it was mid-September, but already very cold – mid-30 degrees

Cripple Creek is much like Central City, north of Denver – about a 45 minute bus ride from Denver – an old mining town with 8 small, quaint casinos – again, very few gamblers inside

most of the action was in the Harrah’s casino in Blackhawk – 1/4 mile down hill from Central City – newer, high rise building

    ok, back to work!!!

Thanks, Stephen. I did not realize the drive from Denver to Colorado Springs was 85 miles. Did it on a January night during a blinding snowstorm, and thought it was going to be my final ride. An experience I will never forget.
Fortunately, weather should be downright balmy (high 80/low 48) for Saturday’s game.
Interesting to hear Rolo say that Brown needs to “trust” the pocket more. He has a tendency to bail early, but I thought it was because he had difficulty — at 5 feet 11, on a good day, Brown says — seeing over the line of scrimmage. Trusting the pocket just part of the learning process.

I guess when fans get an inch better football, they want a mile now. Brown is just a soph and played in only his senior year hi school. Just tape the football to his upper chest between the arm during down time. Guess what?, it can work (joking). When one has a sore tooth and eats on the opposite side of jaw-pretty soon it becomes a habit and when the tooth is fixed he’ll probably eat on the opposite side. Happens all the time. UH has got to just outscore the AF. Let’s go Dru!! DO IT!!

I don’t know about the move for the future. I though Tullis was going to content for playing time next season since we lose Kemp, Camanse-Steven and Isaiah Bernard. He is the only guy I see with some kind of speed. Moving him to DB, I guess, is a “desperate” move to shore up the position but its so late in the game. I don’t know how much he need to learn and how much he can pick up to help this year.

He have been running straight ahead and running routes now he have to learn to backpedal and learn to stay with a receiver instead of running away from a defender.

Close down the runways for the Air Farce option.
    Intercept their bombs.
Claw the pigskin out of their weak clutches.
Kick a couple of 60 yard field goals.
    You can do this, Bows.
    Seriously.
    Let’s Roll

  9. Duster October 20, 2016 3:24 pm

Is Tullis moving to play CB or S? We had some former high school QBs turn out to be terrific at S: Blane Gaison, Walter Briggs and Verlon Redd, for example, come to mind.

  10. NotNasti October 20, 2016 3:53 pm

Raphael Cherry was drafted to play safety for the Redskins.

  11. BigWave96744 October 20, 2016 3:58 pm

KAHUNA, #7, Isaiah Bernard can redshirt this year and return for his senior year in 2017.

  12. BigWave96744 October 20, 2016 3:59 pm

Stubblefield will probably also redshirt and return in 2017 as RS-Soph

  13. kapakahi October 20, 2016 4:32 pm

Stubblefield would have to be granted a medical redshirt (i.e., a 6th year of eligibility – like Anguay) since he already redshirted his true frosh season back in 2014.

If Tullis is moving to CB, just trust the coaches. Remember, both starting CBs are seniors.

  16. H-Man October 20, 2016 6:11 pm

Wasn’t starting CB Jamal Mayo injured in the UNLV game and is he available for the Air Force game? They are going to need him because AF has a strong passing game.

  17. Rodney October 20, 2016 6:24 pm

    Stubbs should persue baseball
    Issaih Bernard should get PT
    He can stretch things vertical

Watch out for deer on the road up in that area. Stay warm. It is a beautiful place– if your lungs don’t tell you about the altitude, the view will. Should be a good game if we play our best game and don’t let the AFA get a lead on us.

You guys want an Honorary Team Captain? Jason Elam is in town to be inducted into the Broncos Ring of Fame on MNF. I’m hoping he’ll attend the game at AF.
