QB Moniz on personal leave

LIHUE — Starting quarterback Bryant Moniz is on “personal leave” and did not accompany the Warriors to today’s scrimmage on Kaua‘i, UH head coach Greg McMackin confirmed this morning.

McMackin did not specify how long Moniz would be away from the team.

“He has to take care of some personal things,” McMackin said.

Our loyal blog reader, Kymry, stopped by practice to post a banner on the stadium wall. And then she left, to watch her son’s soccer game. UH’s two most devoted Kaua‘i fans, Kymry and LizKauai, are not here for the scrimamge.

    First!?

  2. jm2375 April 10, 2010 9:38 am

    Good morning Tsai-kos!

Best wishes to Mr. Moniz. Get back to practice quickly!

Happy travels to LizK. Have a great time with your new grandson.

Hoping for a good turnout today on Kauai.

  3. Kazz April 10, 2010 9:38 am

Hope all is well with Moniz.

  4. jm2375 April 10, 2010 9:39 am

Guess everyone went to Kauai too.

  5. Stephen Tsai April 10, 2010 9:40 am

OK. I’m going to attempt to upload photos. Let’s see how long it takes.

  6. Kazz April 10, 2010 9:40 am

    Top of the 4th

    Wahine 5
    BSU 0

Broncs get three consecutive hits but unable to bring anyone home.

This is encouraging as no matter how many homers we smash, we still need to get those outs and clean up the errors if we are to keep the season going in the post season.

  7. SteveM April 10, 2010 9:41 am

    Good morning everyone!

Glad to hear from you on Kauai.

  8. Kazz April 10, 2010 9:44 am

    ***Side WAC softball note***

LaTech is 6-2 and 20-11 overall.

The Lady Bulldogs do NOT have an impressive pre season record unlike ours, but they’ve got probably the BEST pitcher in the conference today in Megan Kreig who just shut down NMSU with 10Ks… Yeah it’s NMSU, the 0-8 NMSU team, but still…

We should soak up the hitting practice against BSU as much as we can to get ready for LaTech’s ACE next weekend.

  9. Kazz April 10, 2010 9:52 am

    Bottom of the 4th

    Wahine 8
    BSU 1

5 home runs for the Wahine
    1 for BSU

  10. Kazz would like to but cannot vote for Jett  April 10, 2010 9:58 am

Does UH have just one of those Rainbowtique trailers???

  11. Stephen Tsai April 10, 2010 10:00 am

    One Rainbowtique trailer, one table.
    All T-shirts are $10.
By the way, Majam hit her 23rd homer, tying the WAC single-season record.

  12. Kazz would like to but cannot vote for Jett  April 10, 2010 10:01 am

A few more runs by the Wahine, and I should step away to grab some breakfast.

Or at least use the bathroom since I woke up!!! 😆

  13. Da Punchbowl Kid April 10, 2010 10:02 am

How many folks are there at Vidinha so far, Mr. Tsai?

  14. Da Punchbowl Kid April 10, 2010 10:03 am

Using the bathroom properly is very important, Kazz.

  15. Stephen Tsai April 10, 2010 10:03 am

    Warriors are warming up now.
Times must be difficult. Dave Reardon and I are doing the p.a.

  16. d1島 April 10, 2010 10:03 am

    Best wishes for QB1 Moniz.

….maybe a “Graves” situation now for the QB slot?

  17. Stephen Tsai April 10, 2010 10:04 am

There are about 30 people sitting on the sunny side.
    Can’t see below me.
There’s a huge soccer tournament across the street.

  18. Da Punchbowl Kid April 10, 2010 10:05 am

Let’s hope that the “personal” stuff which Moniz needs to ta take care of can be resolved quickly.

  19. Stephen Tsai April 10, 2010 10:05 am

Not sure why people are sitting in the stands now, anyway.

  20. Stephen Tsai April 10, 2010 10:06 am

It’s been a few years since I’ve been to Kauai. I asked the car-rental agent: Can you give me directions to Vidinha Stadium. He points to some stadium lights, about a half-mile away.
    Oh.

  21. d1島 April 10, 2010 10:06 am

…at least neither of you will have an edge on “scooping” the other.

  22. ai-eee-soos April 10, 2010 10:07 am

Hope that Bryant clears up all that personal issues real soon.

Then, back to spring practice / school.

    Good Luck Bryant.

Do ya reckon there are a lot more folks on your side, Tsai?

  25. Kazz would like to but cannot vote for Jett  April 10, 2010 10:08 am

    DPK,

Monitoring the Wahine and making sure our ladies take care of business and throw out the opala is IMPORTANT.

But now I am dancing in my seat so I’ll step away for a bit… 😆

  26. Stephen Tsai April 10, 2010 10:10 am

I got into the rental car, and the A/C was on “heat.” Sheesh.

  27. green67 April 10, 2010 10:10 am

Are they streaming the scrimmage live from anywhere??

  28. Kazz would like to but cannot vote for Jett April 10, 2010 10:11 am

I step away for go #1 and this is what happens:

    BSU 3

  29. Stephen Tsai April 10, 2010 10:11 am

    Remember Ron Wiley?
He’s a DJ on Kauai. OK, he’s probably been doing this for years. But to paraphrase the old NBC summer slogan: If you haven’t seen it before, it’s new to you.

  30. d1島 April 10, 2010 10:11 am

Doppler radar looks absolutely clear on East side of Kauai…must be HOT!

  31. Stephen Tsai April 10, 2010 10:12 am

Wow… Katie Holverson getting lit up in her own park against SJSU….. 😯

Well, Nevada has been a big disappointment thus far in the regular season.

Our chances in a park where we’ve never won before look good in two weeks!!! Oh and it’s high elevation yeah? Can’t wait for the WAC naysayers to use that as another excuse for our HR averages… 🙄

  37. Stretch April 10, 2010 10:24 am

ST – you could have walked to the stadium faster than going to the rental car lot and driving there.

  38. kymrykauai April 10, 2010 10:24 am

Hope the Kauai fans have turned out to watch the Warriors!
Wish I could have stayed…son’s tennis match on the

Melissa Gonzalez hit the longest HR ever witnessed at Mountain Cove and fittingly her second HR of the game and 14th this season was the 100th roundtrip for the wahine.

Hawaii (32-11,10-0) defeated Boise State 9-5 in the first end of a DH.

  44. mailepua April 10, 2010 10:41 am

Only one bean today….who else but Kanani Pu’u-Warren (16 hbp), NCAA softball leader in bruises…..oh, and Amanda Tauali’i followed with her second towering HR (10) of the day. Unintended consequences?

  45. Stephen Tsai April 10, 2010 10:46 am

Crowd is picking up. There are a few hundred on the sunnyside.
By the way, everybody who attends gets a free bag of Kauai Coffee.

  46. mailepua April 10, 2010 10:49 am

    Wahine HRs, 1st game today 6 (100):

Where have I been all this time????, Kymry, one shaka picture!!

Aloha Kakahiaka! So now Stephen can say Kymry is not a figment of my imagination!

Oh, ST- the man with the Jett Jasper tee is Jett’s uncle Jimmy, not his dad Richard.

    Ron Wiley is da man!

So I learned something today. Go! Doe not have a luggage agreement with HAL. That will be $10 and I have to recheck my bag in HNL. 😈

Warriors- God Bless and have fun.

    Yee Haa for te SoftBows!

Who is QB with the 1st Unit?

  64. protector April 10, 2010 11:45 am

I hope & trust that Bryant Moniz will be fine. His performance has been on the money. His absence will allow the other QBs to get more needed reps. It’s just a shame that the Kauai fans won’t get to see him in live action as well as Kenny Estes. The QBs and other players will not disappoint, though!

  65. protector April 10, 2010 11:49 am

  94. Kazz April 10, 2010 12:27 pm

    Finally!

The Wahine can come back home.

    This roadtrip is finally over.

One of my keys to winning was our pitching against these three WAC teams that were hitting decently all year long. Stephanie Ricketts proved what I expected her to be and that is a KEY to success. Parnaby got some early praise in the year and many were quick to rule out Ricketts when she had a slow statistical start, but the elemental factor of WAC experience over the freshman is important. Yes, Parnaby has had a lot of international experience in tournaments, but the WAC and NCAA D1 softball is different, not to mention different environments to play in on road trips as I cannot recall Parnaby having to pitch in 40 degree weather where there was snow the day before on that very same field in which she stepped foot on and struggled before Ricketts cleaned things up in that eventual 18-8 win.

Another factor that I thought was necessary to success was the continued contribution of Grimes and Taualii. While the younger group of Majam, Iwata, Gonzales, and J-Rod have been consistantly good, a team will ALWAYS look to the seniors for leadership by example and to see Grimes take off when the WAC started after having a slow pre season at bat has done wonders and the adjustment of moving Taualii lower in the order has created a new dynamic to the proficient Wahine offense.

I don’t want to assume anything on our fielding or our errors as its hard to see without actually watching the game.

Now, a new page is turned and the Wahine can relax for a bit, soak in the fun they’ve had this past GRUELING week, read up on the records they’ve created and destroyed (if they wish 😉 ), and get back to the norms of the dorms.

LaTech is NEXT and Meghan Krieg awaits…

    WELL DONE LADIES! CHEEEEEHOOOO!

  95. jm2375 April 10, 2010 12:27 pm

Congrats to the Wahine on another sweet SWEEEEEP!! I think it was more like a vacuuming.

Who says UH can’t win on the road? 👿

  111. Kazz April 10, 2010 12:53 pm

    SJ,

Was out until 3am this morning and I set my alarm to for 9am to start catching the stats, but then I hit SNOOZE like an idiot and missed about half the first game today!

I had flashbacks of that time in the championship game of the Pepsi Mahlihini Kipa Aloha Softball Tournament where Wahine game against DePaul was originally set for noon and they moved it to 10am.

I was leaving my house at 10:30 when you called me and they already started.

Oh man… I’ll never forget that mad dash to get to Manoa from Pearl City. 😆

  112. Kazz April 10, 2010 12:57 pm

    POP QUIZ:

How can a team with 100 home runs on the season still have a disapponting year?

Answer: NO WAC TITLE IN 2010 and NO NCAA BERTH IN 2010.

Keep pounding ladies, momentum is on our side!

It’s been a great time following this team from game one ( 😡 ) to now and looking forward to following this program in closing the regular season STRONG in the next three weeks!!!

    POMAI,

WE SHOULD TALK NEXT WEEK!!! 😉

Kicking was done all by enos…poor guy means well but no leg strenth…theyy all look like they were in target but just not enough leg strength. I will give a full reprort of wwhat I saw when I get back home this afternoon…for now time to kaukau at wailua shopping plaza.

    Cheerio for the Wahine!!!

  119. wafan April 10, 2010 1:40 pm

Did Enos forget to pack his leg?

  120. Pomai April 10, 2010 1:53 pm

In all honesty if there isn’t a full house this Friday, I will be very disappointed in UH fans, as shoeless Joe Jackson says “If you build it they will come” Well folks, Na Wahine Koa have built it, now lets see if the come.

Kazz see you Friday night, will be there by 5:00.

  121. Stephen Tsai April 10, 2010 1:59 pm

    Good scrimmage. Nice-sized crowd.
I’ll give you more updates when I get back to O‘ahu. I have to board in about 10 minutes.

  122. Stephen Tsai April 10, 2010 2:00 pm

Oh, yeah, Aaron Brown had two sacks and a forced fumble.

Hope everyone had fun on Kaua’i!

Safe travels to MsLiz! It’ll be exciting to see the little one when he arrives.

Hope everything is ok with Moniz.

I have to catch up on reading…

  128. Kazz (blkberry_storm) April 10, 2010 3:09 pm

    Pomai,

The Wahine Softball bandwagon bus may be full soon.

Passengers better NOT be sitting in our “season ticket seats”…

  129. Ralph April 10, 2010 3:11 pm

Pomai Kazz has to sit in his office until 6 pm on Friday, he’ll need cpr from you to settle him when he comes to the game late, otherwise he might choke on his skittles or hyperventilate if the Na Wahine isn’t cruising at that time.

  130. Ralph April 10, 2010 3:14 pm

I hope the bandwagon is full, there are 4 home dates left in the season. We definitely need a full house on May 1, senior night. April 30 and May 1, Fresno State, probably for the WAC regular season title.

  131. Kazz (blkberry_storm) April 10, 2010 3:15 pm

    Pomai,

Will be there early too. I’m on vacation next week.

  132. Ralph April 10, 2010 3:16 pm

UDUB beat #2 Arizona again, 7-0. Stanford pushes its mark to 4-1 in Pac 10 by beating OSU. They are now 30-4. UCLA lost 3 straight in Pac 10. They were ranked #4.

  133. Ralph April 10, 2010 3:18 pm

Pomai you got lots of tickets for Bulla and company, just ask him to bring the pop corn for all of us. 🙂

Sure a full crowd would be great but still…

BETTER TO BE PROACTIVE THAN REACTIVE.

  142. Ralph April 10, 2010 4:50 pm

UH down 7-4 in fifth, giving up too many runs early in the game.

  143. cavewarrior April 10, 2010 4:55 pm

so ST… how much miles you put on da rental car? did you filler up too? 🙂

  144. BleedGreen808 April 10, 2010 5:14 pm

    Bulla–

Overall, the defense played well, particularly the DL.

Of the times your son was in and I happen to be watching the “big boys,” your son along with his fellow DL was crashing the O protection. Glad to see him don the warrior uniform.

  145. Ralph April 10, 2010 5:31 pm

Bulla, you didn’t go to Kauai? You couldn’t hear the Garden Isle call you out, “hele on to Kauai”, it’s cheaper than flying out to Utah.

  146. Ralph April 10, 2010 5:32 pm

Bows got to make a comeback again in the 9th. Top 9th, down 8-5.

  147. Bulla April 10, 2010 5:46 pm

BG808: mahalo, he only got 8 reps but did his thing… Film don’t Lie, but he got lots of love from the D coaches

Ralph: wanted to go but had prior commitments with our Prison Ministry; all good 🙂

    Pomai: I think we got a date 🙂 🙂

  148. Ralph April 10, 2010 5:47 pm

bows lose 8-5. UH scores 5 runs on 11 hits but that’s not enough to pull it out. They either need more clutch hitting on 11 hits to score more runs and/or the pitching got to hold the line and stop the early scoring by Fresno.

  149. Pearl City April 10, 2010 6:18 pm

John Veneri said it wasn’t known when or IF Moniz would return. What’s the scoop?
Oh, and I’m in love with kymry. She can come to my soccer game.

  150. wafan April 10, 2010 6:28 pm

If? I sure hope me does!

If not, what is going on with our lead QB’s?

  151. wafan April 10, 2010 6:29 pm

    Wow.

  152. wafan April 10, 2010 6:30 pm

Bo Levi-Mitchel playing at Eastern Washington University. Did well in their scrimmage today.

  160. Derek April 10, 2010 8:54 pm

The Rainbow Wahines softball team doesn’t get enough respect (by our own newspapers). Come On, Man! This is the hottest team around and they should be on the front page of the sports section, instead of being hidden in the back pages of the sports section with a small write up. With the way the softball team performing so well and with all of power and home runs and blowing out the opponents, they are definitely worth of the price of admission. And yet, their games are free. Why? Times are tough and the program has expenses. Why can’t they generate some much needed revenue. What is Donovan doing? Why is Kahoohanohano doing? I am disappointed with both the Advertiser and the Star Bulletin for not giving more coverage of the Wahines, especially when the men’s baseball is not going too well and men’s volleyball not playing this week. The Wahines and Bob Coolen deserve much, much better.

  161. Bulla April 10, 2010 9:01 pm

    derek

i agree, well said……poi pounders unite!!!

  162. Ralph April 10, 2010 9:44 pm

everyone who can make it, come out to the rwss and watch Na Wahine next friday and saturday against La Tech. Friday game at 6 pm, saturday DH starts at 4 pm. only two home series left in the season, the next team coming in will be Fresno State, April 30 and May 1 for a DH

  163. Ralph April 10, 2010 9:45 pm

So are the poi pounders from Makakilo coming out on friday or saturday or both?

  164. Ralph April 10, 2010 9:51 pm

bows lose 2, 16-15 for the season. They have 22 games left before the WAC tournament. Two home stands remaining, total 8 games. Attendance reported has been good, 2500+ plus at today’s DH. Last season and this season we have seen a rise in attendance, but if they win more often, more will come. Ferd wrote a well written column on bows attendance, impact of TV, but the bottom line, win and they will come even with a tv package.

  165. jm2375 April 10, 2010 9:54 pm

Congrats to Coach Coolen on his 700th victory!

Just got home from the mvb alumni match. Alumni win 3-2 (17-15 5th game). Lots of fun. Josh Walker was funny acting as linesman. Varsity 2nd and 3rd string in for games 3 & 4 and most of game 5. Tony Ching looked great. Dan Fisher even got a few roofs in.

  166. LizKauai (iPhone PDX) April 10, 2010 10:04 pm

Woo hoo! Made it. And have wifi!

    Oops.
ST- Kymry was at her son’s TENNIS game. Sorry I didn’t catch that sooner.

Ok now I have to adjust to Wafan and djmitcho hours.
Mahalo to Wafan for the Second Nature updates. If you guys can, pls support them at the Band Champ finals on the 24th in HNL. The win the Kauai semis tonite!

Nitey nite and SAFE Prom Night Dreams!

  167. Ralph April 10, 2010 10:05 pm

Na Wahine 11 losses have come against the best: Washington is 32-3; Stanford 30-5; Oregon 28-6; Arizona 32-6; California 30-10 and Oklahoma State is currently first in the big 12 at 6-0 with a 35-7 season record. Like the vb team, the ladies got to keep their focus, continue to work hard, and improve each game to up their level of play and play at a high level at all times to be ready for the NCAA regional.

  168. d1島 April 10, 2010 10:08 pm

Wasted effort by Spangler tonight….very disappointing, to say the least.
    #5 and #6 hitters go 4 for 4…4 AB’s, 4 K’s! 👿 Taking lots of strikes; not good.

  169. d1島 April 10, 2010 10:18 pm

  170. Slugger April 10, 2010 10:22 pm

See #154 from warrior re: Moniz. Hope it’s nothing serious.

  171. d1島 April 10, 2010 10:25 pm

    Slugger,

I don’t think “nothing serious” would keep QB1 out of the first scrimmage of Spring.

  172. d1島 April 10, 2010 10:30 pm

I’ll give you more updates when I get back to O‘ahu.

He’s been back quite awhile now…seen at the MVB exhibition tonight.
Should we wait up another hour or so for the scoo-be-doo?

  173. d1島 April 10, 2010 10:31 pm

…..maybe that descending whistling sound of a bombshell dropping will get me up.

    Oyasumina-tsai….

  174. d1島 April 10, 2010 10:32 pm

….or maybe I’m just in a funky mood after watching the BaseBows get “no-no’d” tonight 🙄

  175. Ralph April 10, 2010 11:01 pm

D1 hopefully the crowd was loud in support of the team, but not loud enough to get them out of their hitting funk.

  176. NorthShoreFan April 10, 2010 11:14 pm

Bad day at the Les…sat through two and was totally disappointed with the first game.
How you figga…one out, man on first and second…bunt!..what going on here?!?!!?..so now bunt advance guys to second and third…next up…out…we come out with dodo! Who calling this game!?!?!
We hit enough but not with guys in scoring position…Fresno plays basball…today UH did not!..I’m still not satified with the decisions batters are making..We need a new batting coach and pitching coach..tired of watching mental mistakes….

Second game was great pitchers duel..too bad Spangler took the loss. Gonzalez pitched a gem of a ball game.. first no hitter I’ve seen…
    Got to win tomorrow.

Best wishes to Moniz..I hope it gets resolved soon.

unfortunately the beat writer for women’s softball is deeply inundated at this time.

the poor guy has to cover men’s volleyball and spring football. with no one else assigned to spell him when the other more popular sports, as the aforementioned, demand more coverage what is a writer to do.

also, the sports editor determines the priority for him.

did i get that right tsai?

Back home to sports after spending an evening at a karaoke housewarming party in Ewa Beach. Yes, karaoke–after all, it it was the party of Ellen, one of the singers and owners of Karaoke Madness, a party and large function karaoke equipment/service provider. I had almost forgotten how flexible and professional they are as party hosts….and fun.

What does this have to do with Tsai-kos? Way back when I was trying futilely to muster 25 Tsai-kos to do a karaoke (just before the return of las vegas to Genji), I was hoping to have a tailgate-type party with them as the karaoke service provider. They are really good at making shy people sing. 🙄 OK– Tsai-kos don’t need that now and have hit 50+ in attendance–so they went on the back burner after gigi-hawaii cancelled their hire due to the change of plans and venue for what became Blog Party 4.

But if we ever have a big party for 75+ people with a stage and electricity… BTW, they are avid UH football fans but haven’t bought season tickets since the early 90’s since they are often working a gig on Saturday nights. But they will attend our tailgate this year if they can make a game or two. If they join us a few times, things will really rock later. 🙂

  180. al April 10, 2010 11:54 pm

    san diego beat ucla 3-1.

therefore, only stanford has the tiebreaker edgo over us.

  181. Kazz (blkberry_storm) April 11, 2010 12:17 am

    Al,

    I think you are correct.

  182. Ralph April 11, 2010 12:30 am

very tight race in mvb, got to win out and hope for the best. UH got to figure out how to win on the first night on the road, they do very well on the second go around.

  183. al April 11, 2010 12:41 am

    regardless of the final outcome.

charlie wade will be the coach of the year for the mpsf at minimum.

umlauft will be newcomer/frosh of the year and all american. could be mvp depending upon how far we go in the ncaa’s.

cervantes has a great chance at all american and is deserving.

nejc should make all american but he will be overlooked and make second team unless we make final two.

walker will make second team all american and this will drive him to work harder on his much improved back row defense for next year.

sidebar…jd looks good for going out of the box hiring a women’s coach for his men’s team breaking many rice bowls while he is at it.

  184. Ralph April 11, 2010 12:55 am

how many players are named to each AA team, 1st and 2nd. If 6 each, 4 from UH is being overly optimistic. Lots of quality teams playing about even, so they got to have some players to compete with the rest of the field.

  185. Ralph April 11, 2010 12:56 am

maybe 7 each with the libero position.

  186. al April 11, 2010 1:01 am

i think they name 12 players.

and again optimism is based upon a top 2 finish.

  187. al April 11, 2010 1:10 am

for now…”stone cold” shane austin will be #1.

i have a hunch that by the end of spring training david graves will be a solid number two.

  188. Slugger April 11, 2010 1:14 am

Back from a night filled with hula from Hilo…

Too bad about the BaseBows’ losses. Is there a game tomorrow? Too tired to check the schedule.

    Night all!

  189. Ralph April 11, 2010 1:17 am

i just read that boise state charges general admission to their softball games, $5.00 for adults. Boise is in its second year of D1 softball, at UH, Coolen has been here 19 years and only one year did UH charge admission. The SB program ended in the red, deep red, about $700K all season. Got to cut the red ink, lots of programs charge general admission.

The Basebows play at 1:05 today.

Next weekend, Na Wahine play at 6 pm on Friday and 4 pm on Saturda. The Warriors have an open scrimmage starting at 3 pm.

This is the same day as the Spring Practice T-Gate at Richardson Field. What times does it start?

Charging admission is not a decision that Jim Donovan can make on his own. There are all sorts of administrative hassles involving a number of different UH administrative levels as well as some sort of (probably) pro form notification of the WAC as well as the NCAA. Will do some research on this as soon as the offices are open again.

Have to get some work done before heading off to The Les. DrDoc has to skip today’s game because of the closeness to tax filing teadlines. Hopefully Protector can use DD’s ticket. He’s going to call me around 11 am. If he cannot make it and given the lateness of the decision, I’ll just give away the ticket to someone waiting in line at the box office.

  208. Kazz (blkberry_storm) April 11, 2010 8:43 am

    Ralph,

I thought I saw that BSU has no admission for softball.

Either way, I’ve been quiet about it but I too think UH SHOULD charge admission for softball and the rise of Money Majam as a star and the Wahine record has NOTHING to do with it. Thinking back, they should have charged a while ago.

However I wanna see that 1.7 million dollar commitment from the legislature towards the Rainbow Wahine Softball program come through. I could care less about a roof over 3rd and 1st base side, I just want to see better accomodations for the players and coaches. I mean Bob Coolen can only do so much…

And also where is the advertising signage?????? I asked JD about this when he was a guest on the Warrior Beat Show but I never watched the replay. I also email Johnny Mac but no response. I’m on vacation this week so I guess Ill have to flood his email.

  209. d1島 April 11, 2010 8:51 am

    Kazz,

IIRC JD’s response was that the rolling sign like the one in SSC and the Les are expensive and no company has expressed interest in footing the bill for one in the SoftBow stadium. Not sure about simple banners.

  210. Kazz (blkberry_storm) April 11, 2010 8:53 am

    Wdoc,

Thanks for the clarification on softball admission. Carl Clapp mentioned there were no plans to charge for softball for at least 3 years and the same goes for Wahine water polo and soccer.

I also thought that the lack of a true seating area for handicapped fans at the softball stadium had something to do with UH not being able to charge admission?

Anyway, charging $3-5 a game and including a season package deal sounds pretty reasonable to me.

  211. d1島 April 11, 2010 8:54 am

    Bulla,

Interesting about The Beast’s encounter in Wahiawa.

  212. kaimiloa April 11, 2010 8:54 am

Kazz, JD did respond to your question. He said that the year that they had an admission fee, the number of fans coming to games dropped big time. He said that it would be nice to generate some more money but he didn’t want to hurt the amount of support that the team gets at games.

I was very happy to see that UH ended the season with a QB who started a number of games to quell my fears of having a “rookie” start against USC.

With the current situation, UH may actually start a “rookie” against USC and this does not bode well for the Warriors.

    Pessimistic? hell yes!!!!!!!!

We do hope tha whatever the situation is with BM that it will be cleared up soon and in a positive manner so he can continue off-season work and be ready for fall drills. If not, the youngsters bette put in triple time work during Spring ball and off-season training.

Good to read about the Shutter-Stuz2 connection and working together for the future!

There is probably administrative costs involved with selling tickets to consider in addition to the supply/demand equation….just wondering if $3 fare would be worthwhile?

  215. d1島 April 11, 2010 9:01 am

    A-house,

I’m with you! It’s always a good thing when any “BM situation” can get cleared up ASAP!
(although it’s better when it’s your situation as opposed to my situation)

    Maverick on 198,

    Right on the money!

    DPK on 202,

What the? After hearing (way) before the scrimmage that the Beast couldn’t go to Kauai because it was against tranfer rules, did UH obtain some kind of waiver? The Beast getting to play is awesome news! THAT at least would make up for th loss of Moniz & Estes.

    re: Moniz

I’ll only be concerned if he has not returned by Fall practice. If he’s not back by then, he may be rusty and they’ll have to go with whoever’s at the top of the depth chart. One thing about the QB situation this year as compared to a couple of years ago…these guys know the Offense & can run it. I have full confidence that by the time they take the field against the Trojans, anyone at the helm will be able to ‘pull the trigger’ and do it efficiently. We have depth & quality there. Heck, even Nielsen at the bottom of the depth chart has had good things said about him (looking natural & running it smoothly).

    Good morning!

    protector,

I think the Beast had to pay his own way to Kauai. Bulla?

McMackin did not specify how long Moniz would be away from the team.
“He has to take care of some personal things,” McMackin said.

I really like the fresh perpective you did on the issue. Really was not expecting that when I started off studying. Your concepts were easy to understand that I wondered why I never looked at it before. Glad to know that there’s an individual out there that definitely understands what he’s discussing. Great job
