Promise ring
The Warriors received their Hawai‘i Bowl rings during this morning’s team meeting. Coach Mack designed them. Coach Mack said next time the goal won’t be to earn a bowl berth but to win the bowl game.

Coach Mack and AD Jim Donovan leave today for a four-day trip to Japan to promote UH athletics.

kden new post and numba one
I notice how the hits spike when the Mommies come to play. Well, mostly it’s Homey posting more.
Good morning ST.
Coach Mac and AD Jim should have brought Stretch too…and whitey to translate….
…and you to report on it. 🙂
top 10!
cheepono out
… and las vegas for negotiations. I hear a lot of tough negotiations are conducted in karaoke bars in Japan…if not the other kind. But with Stretch, whitey, and las vegas they’ll have all contingencies covered. 😉
st any other things being put on by UH besides what you mentioned already? will team depart that day also?
opps asking about the 4/11 scrimmage on Maui
Hiya!
Awrite- Brie! I went to the link to see you on TV. Mr. Medeiros is my #1 son’s classmate from Koloa School – 6th grade. They started a band – I got my son a Fender Rhodes 88 but he eventually gave up and Glenn went on to stardom!
Speaking of bands, Ukuleleboi- sans ukulele is in a band competing for BandChamps tomorrow:

Latahs!
ST- I’ve been meaning to ask- are you planning on keeping the bobble heads on the set with you and Leila? After watching the replays, they seem to be in support of you throughout the show. They nodded in agreement with all of your jokes and quotes. Pretty cool!

I think it was Tita25.
If men gave birth and women did not then the same argument would be used that if women gave birth then the human species would cease to exist.
You have to come up with a better argument than that.
hiya wafan,

Tita25
i like dat one. heh heh
we going keep sistah on her toes till da reinforcement arrives from da sand pile. 😀
Good Morning Tsaikos!!
Not to take anything away from this past season but I think that the team getting “Hawaii Bowl” rings are unnecessary. It takes away from the accomplishment of receiving a ring when it only takes a winning record. I think they should be awarded rings for winning the conference. It is almost like lowering the standard to earn a prize. Just my thoughts.
Hi bhf2!
Nah. Still below freezing but too warm for the lakes to be frozen over. The days are all in the low 40’s! Yahoo!!!
Funniest part is seeing all of my tulips poking their heads out already. In a month or so I should have a very colorful walkway.
I need to crank up the assignments. I have only 76 more school days until the end of the semester and school year. Dang.
On the other hand. Whoo-hoo!!! 76 more wakeups to go!!!
Brie – I checked out the video and I think you need a bigger sticker. The one you get is too small
very productive morning looking around at da sites.
so, what you think of our mascots? how you think a Dustin Blount lookalike would go in a vili kine customfit? outrageous his abs.
for his abs alone dustin should keep his schollie.
Stretch,
Regarding your post #27: the lowering of the standards occurred a long time ago when the number of bowl games increased so significantly. I think that each University has a set amount of money that they can spend on gifts to the athletes, so UH would have had the same budget to spend on the 2008 Hawaii Bowl Rings as they had on the Sugar Bowl rings. So, the rings should be very nice…but the accomplishment to get the two rings was quite different.
All UH needs is a .500 record to be guaranteed a bowl spot. It used to be that a team could go 9-3 and miss a bowl game, so things have changed! Basically, UH should have the Hawaii Bowl or a BCS bowl every season…it is hard to imagine that a Mac team wouldn’t make the Hawaii Bowl unless the bottom of the WAC improves significantly.
One thing to consider is that Mac designs nice rings, which is great for the Warriors. However, when you consider the cost per ring and the number of people getting the rings, that is quite a bit of money being spent by UH…
Article from Arkansas.
Stanford has to lay off *21* people in their Athletic Department!
The SEC is against a playoff for college football.
Good morning Tsaikos!
Good luck to JD and Coach Mack.
Bull C$$$ System – pfffft. What an arrogant bunch of baboozes. blah blah blah, so many excuses, so little time… 👿
re: SuperFerry – you guys who get seasick – best remedy is sleep!! I tell you it works! Da bugga leaves early enough that you can sleep most of the way…
morning gang!
Stephen – got any pictures of the promise rings?
oh great, now they have online games on the home page
guess its going to be another productive aloha friday 🙂
Aloha Kakahiaka!
sleeping always works but if you happen to wake up sometime during the 3 hour trip, hard to go back sleep when you are uncomfortable.

Al ~ We need some expert advice from the 2 Field grade officials of Maui. Do you know if they are on island?
One is usually chasing Birds for a better score, and the other is just shooting scores of birds.
Great Morning All!
Of two minds regarding the rings (I know I know…that’s a couple over my usual…haha)
Acknowledging that they met a major team goal is important. However, celebrating mediocrity is a dangerous thing.
Congratulations to senior Annett Wichmann who won her third consecutive Western Athletic Conference pentathlon title yesterday at the Indoor Championships in Nampa, Idaho.
Yeehaw!
Coach Mack and JD…. Gambare!
As a member of a union that turned down a 1-percent raise to ultimately negotiate a 10-percent paycut, I’m thinking: the HTA is stooo-pid. A bird in hand, and all of that.
ST Was there a tentative layout as to how Mac and JD will promote UH Athletics and what ROI they expect to see?
Would you know who’s funding this trip? Did HTA help with funds in any capacity?
Not sure who’s funding the trip. But it came together really late. Mack only found out this week he’s leaving today.
Pentathlon Champ!?!?
Yeehaw!
Yeehaw!
Yeehaw!
Yeehaw!
Yeehaw!
The rings are beautiful!
Coach Mack- you gettum!
Congrats, Warriors!!!
Aloha Kakahiaka!
Go get ’em, ‘Ukuleleboi!
Good luck to JD & Coach Mack.
Good luck with the Japan trip, JD and Coach Mack.
That could be very big for UH.
I hope the rings will serve as motivation for this years team to really go all out and earn it.
kekoa…….i think whitey is off island. duffer?
Howzit! Howzit! Howzit!!
*all together now* It’s Aloha Friday!!! No work til Monday…..
When is the contest?
“I want one!”
Stephen – thanks for the ring pics
did david cut his hair?
aiya, inoke in buffanblu
Good thing the games aren’t played early in the morning. 🙄
Hey Tsaikos
No instigators here yet?….how is everyone doing back there in the great State of Hawaii…..
Strech: re: Superferry…3 hours and they don’t sell green bottles?? WTH is that?? I hope they get plenny palu buckets for people like me who, oddly, used to body board (back in my pre-7-kids days), but while waiting for sets to roll in, would get sea-sick as I lay on my board…..
*burp*
Howzit Frank! Ho brah, always good to hear from you!
Howz all our braddahz and sistaz doin’ in the sandbox?
Nice rings but the Hawaii Bowl is the last thing I want to think of. Except for maybe George Bush.
Hey Tsai-kos I’m here! Playing hokey today!
Aloha Gangeez!
A special aloha to Frank. Question for him too. Do you know of anyone by the last name of Tumpac serving there with you? My niece’s husband is in the guard and he’s in Kawait I believe.
bhf2,
i think dat bugga is blogging about his video game exploits. some guys too much time on there hands
Re-About the rings
I say it’s their party. Let them do as they please. If a consensus among the players feels that their undeserving of the rings, then let the boys, aka leadership of the team, speak out…not the fans or people on the outside looking in.
Coming from behind with a 1-3 record and having to win must games to make the bowl game says a lot. I don’t see mediocrity. In fact I see a strong desire among the players and coaches to overcome the odds, mainly before the season and during the season.
Assembling a new staff, assembling a new era in Coach Mack career and assembling the players onto the same page is not an easy thing to do.. As how I see it the rings are very emblematic of overcoming a lot of obstacles. So let them have their rings, peacefully and with dignity.
any rumors on possible late recruits besides that aussie punter? falling asleep at work and need some news to get me awake.

I think that we can all agree that the HTA and ASUH leadership have definitely earned this winter’s Golden Goat awards for their remarkable lack of understanding in these very tough times. Like Obama sez, everybody has to make sacrifices to fix the way things are.
duffer: “hokey” or “hookie” ??? hehehe…just kidding….hahaha…OMG…sorry, its friday and I just can’t get my elemu into gear…..so I’m playing in your sandbox today and jumping into my mommy one….Wanna come over, anyone??
We LOVE newbies….C’mon down! You’re the next contestant on the Price is Right!!!
Howzit, addahknowjoe!!!!! I’m allllllllll “G” cause my co-worker is bringing in a box of malassadas for us to grind! Since NO ONE brought me any on FAT Tuesday! WTH??
Better late than never…
Footballru Numbah Hana!
I have visuals of thousands of Japanese fans tearing down the goal post after their team scores their 1st TD! Hundreds of yards in penalties for *excessive* celebrations.
If they embrace football as they did baseball, we could be in store for some increased interest in yet another Western sport. Our hotel industry should be helping promote this effort.
Howdy Keko-wah-san!
I tink you right about dat big Daddy.
Aloha 4 now folks. BBL! 😉
Kekoa: Hana — that’s Korean. 🙂
Aloha kakahiaka!
Ralph – Even thought there are no seniors on the MBB team I will still bet you they will have a better record next season than this season…4#’s of belly pork. The bet is belly pork and not shoulder pork.
Big C – I can just see your body board is completely submerged.
Frank25 – Yeah, where is that instigator Rob25?
DPK – I think Kawait is a different country.
Kekoa – If we invite the Japanese fans to our tailgate do you think they’ll bring a sushi bar? Rob25 is just going to luv that!
Colomaohana appears to be in the preliminary stage of a massive sugar OD!
(J)James, saddle up your EMS truck and go make one ER run!
The Japanse would feel right at home w/ HeinekenHealers wife as the host.
addahknowjoe:
Howzit my bradda….we all doing fine over here…just hanging in…be home soon for some RR…looking forward for some darts..KK…and everything else..
Da Punchbowl Kid: Tumpac…first name Tino… he is my commander…small world huh!
I suppose the rings are better than getting a trophy. Just like youth sports today, many of the kids don’t want trophies. They rather have jackets, sports bags, athletic wear, etc. They don’t even give out MVP trophies anymore because many parents feel slighted since they think their kid(s) deserved to be MVP…sorry, starting to ramble and drool again.
LAU LAU plate day!!!!
Veikune still has long hair. It was tied up in the picture.
haha…homey: at least my legs were long enough to hang over the back and paddle…
BTW, stupid question, but why you guys always call Rob25 da instagata???
Good morning Tsaikos…
Big C – I thought there was a bar on the Superferry. They had one when I rode it…..hmmmm…maybe only sell domestics….LMAO
Kekoa – I’ll be having a lot of work tonight seeing that A-joe said that Aunty Tital Leadfoot is hyped for the festivities…hoping KK doesn’t cry too much….or he really might be Koa Mahu….MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA
homey/KK – so, when are we gonna plan a BBQ outing for the Tsaikos???
Big C…because she is always causing trouble and stirring up bad vibes on the blog….MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA….used to be Stretch, until Rob25 drove away one of the blog originals…..LMAO
Unlike the rest of us on here who are good little (well, in da case of homey, xsmall) boys….LMAO
Kekoa: should I trust (J)James to take me away in an “ambulance”??? hahahaha!!! C’mon..I see what you guys say about him! You tink I mento or what?? hehehe…
homey: Peoples Cafe?? Dat place still open or what? Just guessing on that one since thats the last place you were seen loitering at….
*cough*
I am surprised homey has not wandered again over to the Pink Side this morning.
His ears should be itching riiiiight about …. now.

To everyone else: Good morning! Hi, ST!
Hey Big C….I’ll have you know I hold some very dubious distinctions in the EMS (ambulance) community….been to some of the worst situations you can think of…the most famous one taking place in 1999…ask me and I’ll tell you sometime.
Stretch – Since you mentioned it. HH’s wife makes some onolicious t-gate fuud! Me, Ralph, (J)J, Kazz, and KK bring simple kind throw on the grill food.
Whoa…esme makes an appearance….not whooshing today???
I had to come see what C is up to. Someone gotta keep her in line!
😆
Kidding. You know ah luvs ya, sista.
(Jesse) James: what are you talking about it still is stretch….and homey..and maybe you?…MWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH …..gigi??????…LMAO
(Jesse) James: what are you talking about it still is stretch….and homey..and maybe you?…MWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH …..gigi??????…LMAO
Actually, I AM whooshing. I gotta go for morning run before the rain starts dumping AGAIN. But I will be back later …. to hear all the pre-dart-tournament trash talk … and whack the newspaper on the heads of all who also trash talk me in my absence.
Tappity … whooooooosh!
Frank…not me….I never start anything on here…I’m a good boy…very naieve….I am almost getting corrupted by the “ladies” and “gentlemen” on the blog….good thing I go to church every week so I can maintain my innocence…..LMAO
Hey! I thought what is said on the pink site stays on the pink site!!!!
Esme – You lucky you have power or else I would…
Big C – I bet all the limu on your legs kept the sharks away!
happy windy friday to all the Tsaikos,
brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, it is pretty chilly. hope everyone is doing well and staying healthy 🙂
Jason:
“hana” in Japanese can mean “flower” or “nose” or “bridge” – all depends on the inflection/emphasis
Braddah (J)J: You WAS drunk that night we met at KK!! Retarded!!! You no remembah to told my hoooos-bond (and me) about that 1999 incident?? Mr. First Responder! Buwahahaha…
Homey, brah, you in trouble….Es is looking for you wit the lickens’ stick!
Jason ~ One thing I learned in the foreign countries I’ve hung out in is…how to mix up their language and use the 1st thing that comes to mind. You should hear me have conversations with my Korean dry cleaning lady! She says things to me she doesn’t realize I understand.
I usually answer with, “ahh Halmoni – you kugi ma (my own spelling for *LIE*). She must understand, she throws hangers at me! Bwahahaha!
(Jesse) James: you are too funny bro….hows everything going bak there..
Esme: wow morning run…good job exercise does a body good..
Frank…same ol, same ol…back here….thanks for all you do for our country in the desert….errrr sand box over there….and know that we (Tsaikos) always keep you guys in our thoughts and prayers….we’ll be drinking shots again soon…..
Big C – Oh yeah…I forgot….and I wasn’t drunk….when I’m drunk I get real quiet, fall asleep, and than have to have someone (i.e. KK, homey, or C_C drive me home)……
Frank25 — did Rob25 tell you about my passing thought for a return party for you? 😉
colomaohana — James was not drunk at the big KK.
He is always like thatWell, not while I was there….did he lie on the ice chests and sing hidden in the back? 🙄Garret Post#37.
IMHO, the BCS schools have nothing to gain in a playoff situation. If you are a fringe BCS team in a 16 or 32 team playoff, you are in danger of being bumped by a non-BCS school and giving up a bid payday.
The current system is exclusionary and should be investigated.
I believe a playoff system is plausible, if the playoffs begin immediately after conference play. Let’s suppose a team plays 9 conference games. Eliminate conference playoffs, because they are redundant. During conference play season, two weeks are designated as bye weeks for rest. The top 32 teams would be selected like basketball. Conference champs, top independents and at-large invites are in the playoff. It now takes 5 weeks to decide a national champ. The teams left out of the top 32 fall into two brackets. The brackets can be based on Power, SOS or Student Body size. There are 120 DI schools with football. 4 playoff divisions, each comprised of 32 schools takes care of all teams playing 13 games if losers bracket games are held. This gives the country 4 intriguing championship games to hype and benefit from financially. It also gives the fans matchups not possible under the current system. e.g. USC and Alabama get bounced in round 1, but play in Rd. 2.
Yes, the current BCS schools would be showcased more, but the system allows schools like Utah, BSU, Hawaii and other conferences a chance to crack the bank. Dollars generated from the playoffs would also be tiered to reflect the appeal to the fans. e.g. The top 32 playoffs play for a $20Million Pool, the second 32 $10 Million, $5 Million etc.
The intrigue applies even to a 0 and 9 school who could potentially play its way to a game worth watching in a playoff. Mississippi State could be playing a 3-6 Hawaii team if both ran the table in playoffs.
The top level games would be Bowl sponsored i.e. Rose, Sugar, Tostitos etc. The revenue potential improves as sleeper schools would not have to worry about non-conference games and paying appearance money like we are committing to Arkansas. The Lowest level schools would be matched up by region to keep expenses managable.
Anyway I hope this gets a conversation going and reaches those that can work toward a solution to make college football better.
Big C – People’s Cafe? How you know I pass by that place? I’m not going there today. Gotta go buy some ingredients from little China today so I’ll stop by a hole in the wall food place and pick up my Hawaiian plate.
Dart thrash talk? Esme has to throw uphill. Maybe we can set up a dart board on the curb for her.
Kekoa – I find pointing in foreign countries work.
(Jesse) James: Thanks for the comment bro..Iove serving my country..
thank all you folks back there for your support….thanks you folks for watching over rob…and keeping her company…you folks are the best…I salute you Tsaikos….cant wait to come home and party…May……
haven’t been to people’s cafe in years. how is the food lately?
same owners or what?
pipikaula used to be one of the best.
sorry, (J)J: I meant to type “you no remembah YOU told my…” not “to told my”…((((sigh))) Thats what happens when I typing fas kine between 2 sites….
And, so if you weren’t drunk that night (at least when I was still there) then is it normal for you to be so *ahem* forward with people you first meet? Ummm…no one in particular…just askin’…..
Buwahahahaha…hehehehe…
*running away to the mommy site now…..*
Baseball wins against Washington, 3-2
haven’t gone to peoples for over 10 years either….
homey, you know? I stay hungry for some pipikaula now…..dangit!
And I know you pass there cause thats where the po-po said you were spotted last. “Last seen with dark shades on, headed in the ewa direction on foot, holding a Ross shopping bag. If anyone has seen this male individual, please call Crime Stoppers…”
Hey guys, just wanted to say hello! I’m so glad it’s Friday. C told me she was having fun over here so I had to come check you all out. Homey — what goes on at the pink site definitely stays there, right? Yikes!! JJ, you told me that story too, hehe…
Big C…I was forward??? with who??? I am just a shy guy, sort of like Jason, but am very friendly….
The ring thing is a coach-player deal. It’s a perk.
Use it as a positive to promote your program–Rem these ring recepients also host recruits…they’ll have something to show.
Big C – post #108
TOO FUNNY! 😆
Stretch – Thanks for the score! GO BOWS!
Mia – you are welcome to join us here daily, all we do is talk nonsense, right C??
AlaWai post #104- very interesting! Probably won’t happen anytime soon, but i like the thought process.
Aloha all, and TGIF!
I’m sure everybody here knows about “Da Bruddahs”….well, if we put Big C, Aunty Tita Leadfoot, and Esme together…we could produce one sketch comedy show….”Da Sistahsa…and Friends”…..with cameos from famous Tsaikos like Bulla, homey, KK, ST, among others….LOL
Morning Tsaikos!
Way to go Baseball Bows!!!
Speaking of the Angel! Hi Mia! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
(J)J tells everyone that story…
oops….I mean Sistahs……LOL
homey ℞: whats going on bro….
Stretch: you too..whats going on…
I tell everyone that story…???? Nah, just like getting that out of the way…people usually ask me what the worst thing I’ve ever experienced while working in EMS (when they find out I was in EMS) and so I just go ahead and say it up front now…sort of a habit already…..
GO BASEBOWS!
Thanks Stretch.
Oh oh….another loose mommy on this site….errrrrr, homey might take that the wrong way….I mean another mommie is loose on this site….MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA
AlaWaiPipeLayer – Many of the BCS schools rather have the out of conference games because it generates big bucks for them. Also, many teams agree to play out of conference games at the BCS home field because they are generously paid.
Thanks for your thoughts.
Howzit Frank!
I guess with the time difference you’re just about done with another day.
Hope all you folks had a good day in the sandbox!
Awwwwwrrrrriiiiiigggghhhhht….Basebows…..winning on the road…thanks for the update Stretch….
Frank25 – I will be pleading the 5th amendment…
(Jesse) James — I’d like to hear some stories of when you were an Engineer…. 🙂
2008 Hawaii Bowl ring? Ouch. 🙁
Sucka must feel heavier than it actually is.
d1島: whats going on..yeap kinda late here…everthings been okay…was getting a little windy…..
homey…you one famous Tsai-ko??
homey ℞: okay…
howzit Frank – hope everything is going well over there, make sure to take care of yourself. Nothing exciting happening, same old crap everyday. Looking forward to darts tonight!! I need to practice now before you come back to give us some lessons.
Thanks for your replies. Homey, the non-conference games would still take place, but now it would be against other conference top teams rather than bottom dwellers. The games could also be played at the higher seed site. The one downside I thought of was the potential elimination of traditional games e.g. Army-Navy, USC v. Notre Dame.
Eh howzit frank
If you believe what JJ writes den you must be in Miami beach.
per PIAA DS
Kaimuki DL Desmond Tautofi commits to Wyoming…
HOMEY regarding mbb….your bet of 4# of pork…easy to improve on a 13-14 record with 2 or 3 games to play…how about they won’t win 65% of their games, about 20 win season to make a difference from pretender this year to contender next season with all of the returnees you have so much confidence in….
AlaWaiPipeLayer – Yeah, the higher seeds would benefit. Yep, losing the Armed Services games would be a downer for the military schools. I can just see Army saying they would’ve whooped Navy and Air Force butt if they played.
Cohana das JJ always drunk wen meeting girls
Got pics to prove it
Yep, another mommy loose, hehe. JJ, that’s something that nobody here would ever forget and you’re right, that would be a question. Stretch, homey — I clarified the “darkside” issue on the pink site, hehe…
Kay, I have 10 minutes to eat lunch and I’ll check back later. I’m hoping for pau hana Friday drink today!!! Or two, or three, j/k…maybe…
Wyoming? Why? That’s ok. Still early.
Ralph – The bet is a better record. Take it or leave it. Mooooooo! (I bet (J)J gets that one word phrase).
Stretch: everything pretty good…practice darts…havent played in a long while…but im sure that i could hold my ground…
Mia…I further clarified the “darkside” issue on the pink site…LMAO
KK…I don’t cause troubles here….I’m the nice, innocent one…just ask sensie al….
I agree with Stretch and D1, awarding a ring for mediocrity lessens the value of a ring…yes the warriors played in the Hawaii bowl but it is shewed to their favor, win 7 and they are in even if there are WAC teams with more wins but no bowl to go to…didn’t they end up at 7-8 after the norte dame game or was it 7-7…
Hey, more Mommies.
I think I might set up a virtual day care.
good to see the baseball team is doing well on the road, fortunately they are playing in the metrodome where the cold weather isn’t a factor
My, my. Ralph is in such a mood these days.
no say that, there might be some guys here who would want to get spanked for misbehaving!!
hello Frank, good to hear from you….hope all is well with you and your fellow marines…thanking all of you for your service to our great country in the turbulent sand box called Iraq. Stay safe and Rob is well behaved, not a whole lot of drinking at the Karaoke, cuz Ronnie isn’t here…
Ralph,
Like I said earlier, I can see both sides of the argument on awarding the rings.
warriorfanny brought up a good point about showing the recruits the “bling” when the guys host. At least they get to tell the recruits that Mack was good to his word about rewarding them for reaching a team goal.
C’mon many men fall into the category of giving rings to mediocre performances.
🙂 😛 🙂 Al could give you a sterling hearsay character reference!
Mia — thanks for posting here under a recognizable name. You are now entered in the Tsai-ko member list with Colomaohana and Cenn. 🙂
Stephen,
Any insight on the itinerary for the Japan trip?
Who does one speak with in Japan about CFB?
Will they try to set up something to bring over the team that ND is playing this coming season?
Ralph: how you doing…everythings good over here..I used to be in the Marines…thats when i was over here the first time back in 90-91 desert storm…im now in the guard….doing my third tour here…getting too old for this stuff…hahahaha
Happy Friday Tsaiko Family!
I can’t wait for July.
I cannot even imagine how non-competitive that Japan v. ND-alumni game is gonna be.
I recall when SLS was visited by a college team from Japan about 10 years ago. Their players were flat-out amazed at the size difference of even those high-schoolers back then.
Hi Ronnie! What’s happening in July?
No time like the present to start planning my 2009 Road Games plans…
So far there’s Washington St., UNLV, Nevada, San Jose St, and home for the Wisconsin game (I’m going to make it through a Na Koa banquet yet). Depending on when the Boise St game is, I may try to make it home for that one too…
I can’t wait for July!
homey,
Canada Day.
4th of July.
uptick in fan and air conditioner sales….
Ronnie: Hello stranger long time no see….how are you doing? going to miss you..I come home for RR in may…then for good in august….hows cali…
homey: #152….you still talking football??
Ronnie,
Ask if you can bring in your own fuud next time!
j(j)
yes, i can vouch for you that you have now become a changed man inspite of your associations with the instigator and the “koa-whatever he is”.
and just to clarify, i don’t enjoy spankings.
Hi Homey!
Well, if you ask Ian, July is when he gets to continue his tattoo. For me, it’s when I get to go to all the really fun events and try not to hit anyone with a dart or bowling ball. 😉
frank25…..howzit going brother?
hope to see on your next trip back home.
Colomaohana,
It’s always a crapshoot trying to decipher what homey is talking about. 🙄
how many phonebooks does it take to look up a number?? Our office just got delivery of ANOTHER set of phone books. What a waste of trees. I thought society is trying to go “green”??
Thanks, SteveM. I was debating the whole MamaMia idea, but figured that’s more for mommies, right?
Hi Frank! Cali is ok, but it’s not home 🙂 . I’m glad you’ll be home in August. Now THAT party would be worth coming back for!
Hi d1! I hear you about the fuud… I think we’ll just eat first this time – or at least Aaron will!
Stretch,
homey and Esme both need several phone books to look up anything!
…unless they use that table at Tsukiji!
Ronnie – This the place you went to?
http://www.aitotattoohi.com
homey – did you ever get my response to your email a couple of months ago?
Big C – Yeah, I was still talking football. 😉
Hmmm….
almost time to find fuud…
I wonder if Kekoa got back from his first Kapolei Kostco run?
Ronnie – yep, I sent a reply back and also informed Rich that I may be there in August. I will let you know more when information becomes available. THANKS!
homey – nope, he went to a place in Kailua. But once I show him this website, he’ll probably want to go there… Is there where you go? At least this time he knows to make an appoinment and not try to just “walk in”.
btw, talk about targeted marketing!
Anyone else notice the “matchmakinghawaii” banner ad at the bottom of the screen?
homey – did I reply to your reply? I’ll have to check it out once I get home.
Ronnie – I don’t go there but I met the guy and he does awesome work. You didn’t reply but that’s ok because you’ll be in the loop once I get more definitive intel.
d1: so I’ve learned in the past 3 days…
d1 – the bottom of my screen has cosmetic facial surgery. I’m thinking the ‘Tizer uses “smart” banners that knows when females are on the site.
It’s time to satisfy my hunger. Then I’ll eat lunch…
homey: WHAT EVER! I think its more for the guys with salt and pepa hair….
A-House: No, Kekoa was trying to say “Football’s number one,” but he said “one” in Korean instead of Japanese.
But that’s okay, I do the same thing all the time. I’ll use Japanese words when I want to say something in Korean. 😀
Ralph: I bet you one cattle call that the UH men’s basketball team will win 20 games (including postseason) in the 2009-2010 season. This, of course, assumes Rod Flemings does not leave early.
Holy cow! You guys are in fine form today! What a roll! 😆
al…thanks for backing me up…
Stretch…you think that’s bad, our office gets 21 copies of the Hawaiian Tel white pages and yellow pages…and we get the Paradise Pages as well….Sheeeeessshh
just stopping in to say hello since some of you tsaikos are gracing us with your presence over on the mommy site.
eileen…
It was Nu’uanu and Merchant…not Bethel….LMAO…
I knew it….I knew DPK was a mommy…..
Hi all you Moms!
Boy if this keeps up, it’s gonna be REALLY interesting when Stephen get GA Smith on for his first chat! 😯 👿 😆
Guys & Moms…
Today in Japan, more than 17,000 players participate in competition for about 400 teams. The biggest number of teams and players compete in college football. Like in US college football, players in Japanese college football have four years of eligibilty. There are two college football leagues, the Kanto League with teams from eastern Japan and the Kansai League with teams from western Japan. Each league has different divisions. The Division I of the Kanto League has two Conferences (A and B). The champions of the two leagues battle for the college championship in the Koshien Bowl in December.
Mebbe JD & Coach M are trying to work a deal to play their Koshien Bowl Champion in our Hawaii Bowl. Would the Grand Poo Bah of NCAA get their panties in a bunch if we did that?
(E Kala Mai Moms, I was just working the visual angle but should have used a male reference like *wedgy* instead)…bad Kekoa!
okay gang…gotta go get grub….maybe I’ll run into homey downtown….I heard he was working security at Ross’ now….
(J)J: is THAT what they’re calling it now?? “Security”???
Congrats to the Baseball team’s win against UW. Funny how we’re gonna play them again when we head up to the Portland Tournament in a few weeks. Next victim is UCSB…..another early morning matchup IIRC.
Nice to see Ronnie perusing the blog again. Shooting for most of the road games again? I’m a lock for Vegas, but everything else is still TBD. Welcome to all the moms foraying into the wild as well!
Watching last night’s volleyball game right now. No tell me the final score, please. 👿
D-1 ~
Save yourself and momma!…DO NOT GO IN THERE!…KOSTCO will never let you be seen or heard from again! It is 10 times the crowd they expected.
We may have lost our grandson in the mob surrounding the Hawaiian concession. He had been spotted earlier near the Pizza unit, but that was before they opened up the Mexican food stand with more Chile Colorado, beans and rice plates.
Traffic is horrendous coming in and leaving Kapolei. Traffic lights are out at 2 of the major intersections. It is what we call “ End of the World traffic, like what you see in disaster flicks.
Send (J) James and EMS crew!
CRW: yes, I won’t tell you the final…..
Kekoa,
Thx for the heads-up!
Sounds like the Wessai could be in need of some of those “Stimulatin’ Shove-ready Road Projects” 😀
CRW,
OK, won’t tell you the score…
(but I bet you’ll be back pretty quick!)
just got word that, not surprisingly, the Kostco parking lot has had its first accident and argument….
Seriously?? Are they selling something different from the other ones that half of the island of Oahu needs to be there? Or is it just the “new store” thing….
re: post 27 from stretch. i gotta kinda agree.
when i first saw the pics i was thinking “hey great they finally got their rings!”…and then 1 second later I thought “hey wait a minute…..we didnt win that game….”
nothing to take away from the accomplishment of going to a bowl game but if thats real bling in them rings then thats a lot of money that we are spending. maybe they could have done a “recession special” with custom made hats, polo shirts and jacket or something? i dunno. rings seem to be much IMHO.
jason….rod flemings will not leave early.
I’ have put all the 2009 Karaoke Call photos so far in its own web page. Construction is still in progress but it’s over 85% complete now so I’ll release the URL…
http://homepage.mac.com/smurashi/photos/karaokecall2.html
Hint: for the curious, this year’s big KK (Krazy Karaoke green room) karaoke call pix are there…mostly taken from ST’s blog entry, some original. 🙂
iwonderwh………
what i see good in getting the hawaii bowl rings, is that it makes for another great recruiting tool.
Coloma ~
It’s the ‘new store’ thing. Plus the free food. Tons of it! The store is actually bigger than any of the others. They really do have a handle on the crowd inside the store because of the way they spread the food units around. Plenny for errybody!
The problem is with the the roads not being completed in the city itself. The traffic lights not working properly. Bozo and his braddah Pachook making all kind wrong way turns inside da parking lot. Blass Pat ovah dere trying fo make Holy Ghost sign to collect for his church of watts happening now…
Basically, it’s your Gran Opening mad scramble.
al: I don’t think he will either, but just to be safe. 🙂
SteveM: The page is looking good!
Big C and d1: I think I know where last night’s volleyball game is heading, unfortunately.
hmmmmmmm, Jason, that is an awful interesting invitation to Ralph.
hmmmmmmm, wonder if I should try and butt in?
A-house,
I thought the word for bridge was “hashi”?
CRW,
Mmmpfhhph mmphhthfp mmhmmthp…
Kekoa,
😆
NauPauLunChauWah…
Did other UH teams get rings for playing in the Hawaii Bowl?
it’s good to see Mac and Jim trying to bring in the japanese market
good afternoon Tsaikos. woooooohoooooooo!!!!! man, the ride home from the darkside took me to places i neva see before. finally made it home.
outstanding!!! the scrimmage will be on maui on april 11th. now we got to get the maui tsaikos to ban together and plan the tailgate for the rest of our gang. lucky, get some time, so first going check for sites near stadium that can accommodate us.
The way it works is every bowl team is entitled to presents from the school and the bowl. For the Sugar Bowl, UH bought each player an iTouch. (The Sugar Bowl gave each Warrior a pleather jackets.)
UH considered giving each player an iPhone, but not every player has AT&T. Plus, the players would have to fork over for the monthly plan.
So they went with rings — all paid for from bowl money.
1 2 3 you’re out!
Ralph – Are you accepting the bet? It’s only #4 lbs. of belly pork.
Hi Eileen!
Kekoa – I’m hoping the Kapolei store will alleviate the small crowds in Waipio.
bhf2, send me note at whiteyogg at gmail dot com.
Um- at the risk of being too forward… there is an online guestbook for Mrs. curveball’s memorial – in case anyone wants to send their condolences/gifts/flowers.
http://www.legacy.com/AUBURNJOURNAL/GB/GuestbookView.aspx?PersonID=124682946
MLiz – You aren’t being too forward. Thanks for the link.
Homes ~
You should benefit from it. This one will serve the leeward community that caused lines at yours when you guys had sale on Balut and black dog.
When Frank gets back I think he can help us plan some interesting gourmet MRE animal parts for Rob.
Thanks for posting that link, Liz. I will be sure to copy that to my Relay for Life page when I get home.
homey…you know if Ralph brings belly pork…I gonna have to cook ‘um extra long on da grill since …you know…it is pork….
Na Koa Football Club is accepting membership right now. They have revised the membership donations so any amount will be welcome to be part of supporting the football team.
The website hasn’t been updated the information yet but if anyone is interested, I can help get more info to you.
BTW – I just mailed my check to help the Warrior Football team!!
Ralph hasn’t posted since the Mommies visited.
Al ~
You’ll not be surprised to know that your golf opponent was arrested for protesting against the war in the Spring of ’68 in front of Bachman hall.
Sound like a young idealistic activist?…a bit older now, but nonetheless…judge acquitted her, bail returned. Files expunged.
Ralph is M.I.A. too?? I thought only (J)J was. Damn those mommies
(J)J – Only if MeiLing shows up. 😆 Anyway, belly pork is easier to cook than the shoulder pork. I mean what’s so hard about cooking fat?
I know where Homey was. Esme says he’s been playing in her backyard.
Okay Stretch, get more info to me.
Who’s responsible for bringing the mommies over here anyway?
ST – #230 ROTFLMFAO!
Kekoa – I’m hoping the Kapolei store alleviates the after-work crowds at the Iwilei store. All those people will go to the Kapolei store *after* they get home and not *before* leaving town to go home. If only they would put in a gas station at the Hawaii Kai store, I would go there all the time. 🙂
ST: did I scare someone away??? Ooopsss….sorry….
ESME is to blame!!! Esme! Esme! Esme!!!
Big C – Just think, you scare people away with your words, wait till they see you in person. OMG!
jm2375 – Stop being selfish…townie…pffft. 😆
I think if UH markets better designs in their athletic wear for the public they would make more money. The market in Japan would be huge. Then expand to Europe and the Middle East. Frank25 would be amazed seeing the Kuwaitis wearing the “H” logo. Plus, Under Armour gear would be perfect for the desert environment.
WHAT??? I’m not THAT scary….Tita, maybe, definately, but not scary, eh???
Well, I type how I talk, no can help…das just da way I am…Now, scary LOOKING….Hmmm…okay, I can live with that I guess….
Big C – I bet your kids aren’t scared of any halloween masks.
homey: Nope, they’re not. Ever since I showed them a picture of you at KK toasting with your cup of CR that made you stay out til 3 in the morning…..
Big C – message has been sent.
…and yeah ST, any late recruit signings in the works?
homey…wait…Big C was wearing a halloween mask at the KK….I wasn’t gonna say anything but…..MWAHAHAHAHHAHA
Wait…Esme has been passing around the pictures on the pink side?
Just got another update on the Krazy Kostco opening:
Overturned car in the area…..
Don’t think TODAY was a good day for them to open up the new roads, huh?? You know, everyone is already confused as it is….right, homey???
Stretch: Send me more info!
wafan:
My point was that men wouldn’t be willing to tolerate the pain and trouble of giving birth and eventually humans would be extinct. Geez relax, women are okay with carrying the load and making sure our species continues! It’s Friday no need to worry about those kind of issues…you have the cold to deal with and that’s enough. 😆 BTW are you coming home for the blog party…whenever that is?
Colomaohana: Stretch is just trying to get rid of his title. All of them are trying to say it is me that is the instigator, but that’s just boys ganging up on a girl. I can handle, just like you. At least, I don’t get drunk and throw up…wait I don’t get drunk in public anyways…it’s all about self control.
Ronnie: I’m glad to see you post again after our chat yesterday. We gotta have some fun when you come home this summer!! Make sure that you have plenty of unscheduled time. Just gotta fill the boys’ time with events.
(J)J – At least she saved money and bought a cheap mask.
(J)J: Yes, it’s called the “Plastered Filipino Girl” mask…..It was a bigger seller last Halloween, didn’t you see it??
homey: Now you get (J)J pickin’ on me?? Okay……you guys just callin’ me out, I tell you……
Rob25 – “drunk and throw up”, now that was a low blow. 😆 Good thing we are not seahorses or us men would really have to give birth.
Big C – I know someone who (J)J would like to call out! I think you know that person too! 😉
homey: I didn’t mention any names! I also didn’t mention that some people get drunk and throw up in people’s cars…or while hanging outside the windows! 😯
Homey…didn’t a man already give birth????
Rob25 – that’s another low blow and ROTLMFAO!
(J)J – That wasn’t really a man in the XY chromosome sense. Still had the uterus and other internals.
(J)J: If she didn’t fix the parts and goods inside, it doesn’t count. She needs a full overhaul to legally be called a man and check that other box on her drivers license….
homey: yup, I know!!!! Too bad she ain’t up for grabs…..literally.
Homey,
I think I recall that Under Armour is not allowed with some members of the military depending on what kind of “action” they see.
The reason being if they encounter a fire and they get burnt the UA material has been known to stick to the flesh. Essentially “melted” into them.
Kazz – Not the military, just the people who live in the Middle East. But I did not know that about the UA material…kinda like an instant skin graft.
First James thinks I’m a mommy. Then he thinks that a man gave birth. So sad, some of these crazed-dog, false pordagees now a days. And it’s not even cocktail hour yet. Good thing Damien’s gonna be a Saint soon, so I can pray to him all day long for this confused young man! 😆
DPK: Good one!! hahahahaha…
Homey, don’t think this applies to only UA material but to Nike, Adidas, etc. form fit synthetics.
I believe this type of man made synthetic material will melt & adhere to the skin when intense high heat is involved.
Simple rule of thumb, synthetics will melt and natural fiber will or may burn. That’s why they say if you are going to fly wear natural fibers if you can.
Do other programs give rings to teams in bowl games? There are a LOT of seven-win teams in bowls each year aren’t there? Do they receive rings?
If you think of the ring as being a memento for bowl participation and not as an acknowledgment for their win-loss record, then a commemorative ring doesn’t seem like such a bad idea. IMHO.
homey: What, you too good to associate with us for darts? We’ll give you a stool so that you got chance. Maybe you heard that Koakane cheats…ask J(J)!
I know that this is a Football driven group but I have to ask about the state of the basketball team. Are they really that bad? They are not performing and I’m wondering if its chemistry amongst them, between them and coaches, whatever…but they really are not good to watch. It’s not the lack of scoring or defense, but it’s like 5 guys just running around until 3 seconds left and someone launches.
And the Mr. Miah issue. If I was JD and I am suffering through a period when no one likes my product enough to fill my arena, I’d already TELL the BB head coach, buddy, give the guy one tryout. Couldn’t be much worse than the guy he’s benched “Mr. Launch from the Parkinglota.”
Miah has a local following, the curious factor that locals all live for, “one local boy going make D-I”. If he can perform, people will go just to see. If he does well, people will keep coming and tell their friends. Fill those empty seats; the ones JD wants to fill to help stop some of that red ink. What’s keeping JD and Bob from just doing the look see? Sometimes, you have to create the excitement, especiallywhen it’s not there and it isn’t.
Have fun darting all you darters out there.
Big C – shhhhhhhhh, Don’t encourage DPK, he thinks he’s one of us.
Willie – Thank goodness I use only those kinds of materials in the ocean.
Buffo-
Those are some good points, I agree, but my question is; how many D1 Football and Basketball dual athletes are out there?
Do you think that next year is going to be a good one for UH Mens BB? I suspect that it might be…
No, no homey. We all know I’m not worthy…
Buffoman, your Miah point makes a lot of sense and it can’t hurt.
Guard play is “weak”. Nitoto is not a point guard, but I really like his quickness, intensity & defense. Hiram does not have foot speed, he panicks a lot, why does he dribble into a corner during presses & then gives up the dribble. Lutu lacks experience. The Parking Lot Launcher has had “one” aka “uno” aka “ichi”. . .hot game, other than that I don’t know how he gets to play.
They got no big man, ala Reggie Cross, Milton Werts, etc.
I had a friend who is a chef and obviously is always around an open flame. He asked me where I bought my UA skull cap (like a beanie but thinner UA heatgear material) as he was tired of wearing his shef hat or hairnet.
I told him about the potential for it to catch fire and melt to him so he changed his mind.
DPK – read #217
Rob25 – I would go to darts if I could. It has nothing to do with me whooping all of you gals butts if I did go. I just have a previous engagement to attend…that’s all.
Attenshion…Attenshion..Today is not a good day go go visit Costco Kapolei. Fellow employee went and hasn’t been seen or heard from. she went into the doorway and whoosh…gone!
People parking at Home Depot and walking over, no shopping carts, people hanging arond your car as you unload waiting for the cart, 700 parking stalls not enough today!
Over heard a phone call..”Eh Waipio, you guys can bring some juice ova or wat? We getting really low!”
But then again good deals, $2000 sale price for a bag that sells for $3000. I wonder if they sold out on the 2 for 1 eggs? Man da chickens gotta work ova time this weekend!
Anyhoo, not a good day to go Kapolei Costco. I wonda how I going get out of Kapolei pau hana time….
DPK – If the MBB team has a better than .600 win percentage and is in the top 3 of the WAC standings then yes it will be a good year.
NSF – Go kolekole pass.
Rob25 – BTW, I heard rumors that after you gals finish throwing darts OSHA is going to condemn the building due to structural damage.
Rob25…KK cheats…I never saw nothing….LMAO
homey…I actually think TJs re-inforced their foundation…..since the last appearance of the Tita Leadfoot…..ooooh ooooh….KK gonna get it….LMAO
homey ℞: you are too funny…
Rob25: homey: What, you too good to associate with us for darts? We’ll give you a stool so that you got chance. Maybe you heard that Koakane cheats…ask J(J)!
hey take it easy, I no cheat and who is always patnah with the tsaikette’s at TJ and Champs
jj don’t know too busy trying to ……………….
Frank25 – Do you ever sleep over there? Stay safe, be alert, and have a good weekend.
KK…trying to what??? LOL
…and about mommies, if it wasn’t for me there’d be less of them in the world.
Find his mommy? 😆
Hey…wasn’t Frank on like 8 hours ago….What time is it in the sandbox right now???
homey just talked to ajoe and he say sports all souped up. meds not working. hit city mill but no crow bars on sale so brought wall speckle to patch walls before we leave. jj no help and chawan w/ lefty will leave after they show up to just eat.
JASON I ACCEPT: one cc with the goal of 20 win season for the mbb…never happen…with Flemings included…now HOMEY, will you change your wording to your offer, “better than this year” is like saying going from “junk” to mediocre- same challenge as jason, they won’t win 20 games next year…
why you talking about jj like dat?
oh oh….the old Ralph is back…BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA
and Homey since the tsaikogate is getting a lot more people, we’ll settle for 6# and yes, J(J) you got to cook the pork properly
KK…there isn’t enough spackle to patch all the holes from the Leadfoot…better just buy several square feet of drywall….LOL
ralph is dat the same as jj cooked goose ❓
jj no worry I have city mill delivering one pallet and will be arriving in the parking lot by 6pm 😆
Homey, I would if I can get out of Kapolei! Would even try around kaena point!
anyhoo, few mo minutes to fight da traffic…dey open one new road fo nuthing..only go to one dead end! no wonda get traffic jam in kapolei. maybe go hang out T-spot till traffic pau.
I know this is a sports blog, but how many of us really stick to the topic? We’re among friends and I know there are a few Tsaikos who are Kamehameha Schools alums and I just wanted to get a feel for their thoughts or anyones for that matter on the issue of the trustees getting a 69% pay raise at a time when the schools endowment lost $1.7 billion in these tough economic times. Because of this the students at Kamehameha Maui have just been told there will be no summer programs and other extracurricular activities as well as no funds for substitute teachers. They have to turn off the AC, lights during school hours just to name a few cost cutting strategies and then to hear that the trustees have been approved of a pay raise is beyond ridiculous. What do these people do anyway to deserve more money. They definitely didn’t prevent the billion dollar losses.
Have some integrity and not take any pay raises. Even better if they decide to have a pay cut and give to the students. Auwe!!!
Homey u2 funny…dey wahines throw dats wit da exploding tips?
esme for now parents just arrived for their meeting
see all lattas and be nice to asport so no need more hassles go afta 52bor instead
Oh, you guys are gonna get it tonight!! 😉 This is gonna be fun to watch.
Rob25…dat wasn’t me….honest
Don’t think I’ve seen anyone mention this but there’s a video featuring new OL Coach Gordy Shaw on the HawaiiAthletics site.
Click on my name and click on the link to the video.
KK-
I jes playin around becuz James seems kind of confused about mommies today… He knows I love him.
DPK…Don’t say that on the blog…people might get the wrong idea…I’m not dat kine….LMAO
And I not one “Mommy”. I smell wayyyyy to bad to qualify. 😆
Tita25 . . .
No huhu. Just that the argument would be easily reversed. Besides, if guys gave birth where would the baby come out?
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!
Okay, that would definitely hurt. A lot. Okay, you win.
You too funny wafan…gotta go throw some darts!!
C ya!
I don’t have to win…I can take a loss.
Well not on the football field, basketball court, volleyball court….
Good thing I win…might have to say that the refs suck. 😯
😳 I can take a loss!
RE: Kamehameha School Trustee “KAKA”
Hoohiki,
To me and I am sure to many others it doesn’t make sense to me, it never will.
Tita25 . . .
Yeah. Right.
You can take a loss.
Uh-huh.
About as well as you forgive a bad call by the refs or the rude behavior by Fresno fans.
What are you using? Geez. Denial is the a bad thing.
Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
Kazz . . .
It is like those bank CEO’s who gave themselves bonuses for driving the banks into the ground.
The higher one is the more incompetence is rewarded — at least it sure seems that way. Is that as part of the Peter Principle.
I remember ST had a picture of the legendary coach Chuck Mills on the blog last offseason. The Japanese version of the Heisman trophy is known as the Mills Trophy in his honor. Coach Mills is regarded as the father of modern Japanese football. According to wikipedia he now lives in Hawaii.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_Mills
Check out these great quotes from his Wikipedia page:
“Some pray for wisdom, my wisdom comes in praying for big, fast tackles.”
“When it comes to football, God is prejudiced – toward big, fast kids.”
“My halftime speeches always went a great deal better when I had better players than the other guy.”
“Losing? Stop the pre-game prayer or you might make atheists out of the kids.”
If I remember right from my time over there, Frank’s sandbox (Iraq/Kuwait) is 13 hours ahead of Hawaii time.
Wafan and Hoohiki,
UPDATE (per Advertiser update at 4:45pm)
I don’t care how long they didn’t get a raise. Certain people in “power” in that upper bracket get no symapthy from “US”.
Besides, I would like to hear Judge Hirai’s justification of such an increase in the first place.
Kamehameha, nothing much ever changes. Character is a rare and precious commodity. Cutting student needs and taking a 69% pay raise is beyond outrageous.
Judge Sam King had proposed that the Bishop Estate Trust be converted to a charitable corporation. Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Punahou, among others, have directors elected by their respective alumni, who are serving as such without compensation. Those charitable corporations, as you might suspect, have quite a bit of money in its endowment- in the billions. Not as much as Bishop Estate but a huge amount. As long as you have a trust, you have trustees who get appointed (political) and get paid.
The directors of those charitable trust serve because of the love of their institutions.
sorry – meant charitable corporations.
Are the trustees obligated to accept the money? Or are they like the professional and life-time politicians?
I told one of the football coaches that Miah is one of the top point guards on campus.
The coach said: “We want him to be one of the best slotbacks on campus.”
Spring ball is going to be interesting. I see a real battle between Malcolm Lane and Rodney Bradley.
Also, I think Royce Pollard is going to do well this season. Now, if he’d stop wearing his metallic red shirt …
Didn’t the Estate have a big broohaha a few years back, with some of them doing jail time? Ego-trips going berserk? Wasn’t it the Advertiser that broke open the story? Don’t remember the names off hand.
Tsai-Meister,
I see a lot of very good position battles brewing for this spring, even beyond the ones you’ve mentioned. We might end up with some serious depth at plenty positions, at least I hope so.
FLORIDA TED:
No jail time because the powers-that-be decided that such action would too expensive and “beyond what the public wanted”. This was Earl Anzai, the Atty General when Margary Bronster failed to get Senate approval for reappointment.
One of the trustees did get jail time but it was not because of the actions as trustee but for tax fraud.
The Advertiser was given the story but had more profile than courage. It was the Star Bulletin that broke the story of the corrupt actions of the (former) trustees.
You might look at a book called “Broken Trust” written by Judge Sam King and Randy Roth (law prof at UH). Very readable and was called “a textbook lesson in charitable trust mismanagement”.
WAFAN: re: #314. No, they are not obligated to take the money. (neither are teachers! (smile)) but they will. They just announced that they will not take the raise and in fact will reduce their present pay by 10%. Of course $160,000+ is more than 4-times than a beginning teacher.
quiet blog night, lots of people at ssc watching the na wahines and rest throwing darts at each other….
go Wahines!
Will be gone for a week to see if I can get some of my money I left in the sin city…It is a bit cold and with the wind blowing, it should be a great ride tonight on the plane. Will check in when I am back in town again….
everyone’s be my witness, I accepted Jason’s cc challenge…..now where is Homey’s acceptance?
momo I hope the wind is with you, you’ll save an hour of flight time
…or watching girls’ bb.
…or fussing with TweetDeck 🙄
They got a hockey game on at TJs…. Guess I gotta catch the replay on K5.
Tom . . .
The $160k is, after 25 years of teaching with multiple certifications, over 3x what I gross each year.
I think it is easier to be happy with $160k each year. At least it would be easier to deal with inflation if one were to live frugally and conservatively. The last raise I got was two years ago (just under 4%) — the first one in 5 years. Yay!
But then, according to one of my all time favorite cartoons, I knew the job was dangerous when I took it!
Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
I think most people are playing darts, with the rest watching Nā Wahine. 🙁
Or maybe some are doing math homework. Work now, I can rest tomorrow. With Relay for Life next week, and midterms going on now, I’m getting run down. Almost had two panic attacks today, just from fatigue. Worst part is when the muscles constrict, you have a harder time breathing, and the body (or worse, your body and mind) realizing that makes it tense up even more. What a vicious cycle, I don’t wish this on anyone. Hope everyone learns from the lessons I’ve learned and decides to take it easy sometimes.
I hope everyone at the DC (darts call) has a great time.
Hopefully, no one gets an involuntary accupuncture treatment. HA!
Tom,
Thanks for refreshing my memory. It’s the kind of stuff one doesn’t need to clutter up memory banks with, but should.
No one can tell me I wasn’t warned, either. But at least I’m not in the freezing cold like wafan. I’m cold right now, but not freezing cold. 😀
Have fun, all who are darting! Was going to go but I still have this cough thing going on. MMia, BigC, Eileen…fun to see you here!
Jason . . .
Good luck with RFL next week!
You are going to be a teacher (sad to see you are so badly brain damaged) so get used to studying (eventually it will be grading and prep/curriculum writing) at nights, on weekends, and on the holidays!
Please consider changing your assignments and assessments to project based with a clear-cut ruberic.
Jason for your P.E. requirement you should have taken yoga or some type of relaxation course to battle anxiety attacks….take deep breaths, think of koa mahu, now nirvana for you…..
Hoohiki ~ Thanks for bringing up this important topic. It has always been one near and dear to my heart.
First of all, when there is this huge amount of money involved, it becomes a real temptation for people who are entrusted with it.
As in the previous group of Trustees, they also started with a very lucrative salary. It seems as if whenever they are in a position to vote themselves an incredible amount of money over a short period of time, the temptation is saved. If we let it happen, then we have slipped back into that same abyss.
As I’m suggesting, it would seem that a total reorganization of the Bishop Estate is necessary. How do we get this message thru to these people.
Jason . . .
I am very comfortable in my home because I have my thermostat set at 75. My NG heater sure is nice! Just need to turn up the humidifier a bit more.
Outside is very different story! At least it is warmer tonight at right around 30. A whole lot warmer than the past nights where it got down to the mid-20’s.
Hey, it is a way better than the midwest or Northeast.
We don’t have a PE requirement. In fact, we have a KLS limit, you can only take so many KLS credits (9, I think?).
They say breath deeply — that makes things worse for me. They say exercise — that makes things worse, although a short walk is usually fine. That’s what I did today, just left class and went for a walk to Paradise Palms, got myself a large Calm tea. My friend asked me, “You left class for tea? 😀
Oh, and wafan — you know those low odor dry erase markers? They still get me high. I’m surprised my brain doesn’t resemble a pincushion. Then again, I hate chalk. Hello, PowerPoint presentations! 😛

Wow, I didn’t realize they were taking away the Kamehameha Schools – Maui summer programs. Since the new trustees took over, seemed like there was at least a lot more going on — more preschools, more DOE assistance, the opening of Maui and Big Island campuses. I am grateful for all I have received as a result of this trust and am sad to think that there is still misuse going on.
Jason . . .
PPT’s are okay. Go for a document camera! Whoo-hoo!!! You can build some awesome PPT’s with it.

I am for a total reorganization of Bishop Estate and Kamehameha Schools, top to bottom. I am not a toe nail Hawaiian, but in some sense I am a toe nail Hawaiian. Someday my great grand children, and now some of my grandchildren, are toe nail Hawaiians. that sketch is not what aggravates me about the Kam Schoolz. The higher than thou attitude of the culture of the upper echelon of the schoolz, resulting in pitting Hawaiians against Hawaiians, and denigrating Hawaiian children that make mistakes unless they have a good lawyer, that is what irritates me. what also irritates me is pandering to those who hijack the school system for money for staying away from the touchy subjects, trying to let things slide and paying the administration for seemingly doing a good job in keeping the lid on the unspoken, at the expense of the populace, that is what is irritating in the current situation.
Therefore I am promoting the result that extinguishes the school and trust into the State. Sorry, but that is how I feel. And I speak as a DHHL lessee. I would rather the State system, the Koakane, run the system. At least I know he means all of us well. There is a lot of fat being trimmed at the top of the heap by people who do not mean the Hawaiian community well, they only mean themselves well. And that is a fact!
True, we run into the dishonest among the State officials. The last minute heisting of the thought process; that is exactly what Linda Lingle did in the recent/ongoing Supreme Court case when she directed Mr. Bennett to change the State’s position; plus, the person who argued for OHA was more interested in himself and his pretty boy personna than in the case and the case result. Good for him that the Supremes handed him his can of beezwax! Too bad for us that the end result is the natives get to take it in the butt >>> again.
The trustees have deferred a HUGE pay increase and have instead taken a 10% pay cut. Anything wrong with that?
Nuff said.
I Mua Kamehameha. ‘E ola mau na pua ‘o Pauahi.
Rings are nice for a reward that something done was successful. I’m not sure about a 7-7 record and getting thumped in the bowl game merits a ring. If they had beaten Notre Dame I would feel much better about it.
Calling a spade a spade this Warrior 2008 edition was very inconsistent, had too many turnovers, too many penalties, and had a lot of problems in the red zone, the special teams weren’t good, and the place kicking wasn’t up to the ice man’s standards compared to 07. In a nutshell, discipline was lacking and the coaching wasn’t up to par (i.e. the offensive line was overmatched). Like I said, this was a very mediocre team and it did not live up to it’s pre-season billing. But, enjoy the rings!!!
I hope 2009 will be better.
Kekoa,
Back in the early eighties I was a very strong advocate of putting all day pre-schools in all the Hawaiian communities. Every Hawaiian child should be in pre-school through the Estate.
That was the will of the Princess, ALL Hawaiian children, not only a small elite. That trust was broken long ago.
Many problems could have been avoided, if the trust to the Hawaiian people would have been carried out faithfully from the beginning.
Kona 38, Cryin’ da Blu’s 29. end of 3rd
OHA is not much more than a puff-ball either. How many families have waited how long for their rightful land? Don’t get me started……
I am all for everyone making a decent wage. I am all for the KamehamehaSchools being a shining beacon for all things Hawaiian.
And I am grateful for the many benefits that have been bestowed on many Hawaiians by Bishop Estate and Kamehameha Schools.
But when a young person makes a mistake, they get a second chance in the DOE. Not so at Kamehameha Schools. Unless the child gets a lawyer. Which promotes the lawyering expenses at Kamehameha Schools and Bishop Estate. I would rather the money be spent in more hiring of assistant teachers that are sent into the State school system, like the charter schools and regular schools, to assist students attain a higher level of academic achievement. the schools can use the extra books, the extra curricular tours, the stuff that they dole out at KS all the time. only the high achievers get to go to KS, and not all the high achievers. spread the $$ around to the kanaka kids in the other schools. in the end, we’re all toenail Hawaiians. thats what happens when you become a State.
wafan: We get Elmos at our school. Eh, I don’t care for them for the most part, although there are benefits at times.
Didn’t mean to get on the soap box, but I’m pure Albino Hawaiian.
DPK, at least they stuck their wet finger in the air and felt the political wind. Yes, they deserve a small measure of respect, but it is basic, human, common sense.
Hey D1,
that school was Kansai University that played SLS. Thats where Kevin is right now and he said SLS could still beat that team. He helped coach the RB’s there this past season as a student assistant (he’ll be there till August, then back to U of A to graduate) Coach Mack should have called him, he’s on break and speaks fluent Japanese!
elmos the red ones, like in sesame street…
SSC without lights….JD must have put the SSC on a timer to save money…
oceanic 16 Kona 44 Puns 41 with 2.11 left
I have an elmo too…and I teach at a public school, but I think the entire staff has only been equipped since last year. Started out slowly few years ago — one per grade level, another and another and now we’re all loaded. We are waiting for our plasma tvs next year — it was said that our ancient rollaways on the stands were dangerous. Hey, I’m all for safety =) Anything for the kids, right? My elmo isn’t red, though, and it doesn’t laugh when I tickle it…
PIAA DS,
Yes. Kansai Kaisers. I went back and looked it up.
Remember #1 son relating how several of them would take turns standing next to 6’6″ Sean Souza and look up in amazement 😆
PIAA DS,
btw, those chilruhns o’ yours sure do have a breadth of experiences, eh!
Good for them! You gotta be a proud Mama… 🙂

Yes, 1 point each 🙄
Wonder how the darts are going?
this is the state championship game in HS but I don’t see any D1 players..the Kuehus were the best last year..Bello from the big Island headed to Idaho…Iolani has a post player headed to D1…
Congrats Konawaena.
54-50.
At times it seemed like they did a good job playing 5 v 8…. 🙄
Punahou at one time held a 22 free throw attempts to Kona 10 just before the end of regulation…
Na wahine goes down again for the 21st time…
I wonder if UH recruited the Kuehu twins and the post player out of Iolani
I think it’s good that you care, Ted.
The Kamehameha Schools’ story is a very complicated one. The bottom line is that they typically aren’t given enough credit these days for the many positive things they accomplish through out the community. However, there are far too many people who are very quick to judge all Hawaiian institutions harshly these days. That bothers me.
Is there room for improvement at Kamehameha? Certainly. Ask any trustee and they’ll probably agree with that thought. But I believe this group of trustees are sincere in their efforts to expand the legacy and provide more help to the broader community, both Hawaiian and non-Hawaiian. Are they going to please everyone? Again, probably not.
It’s difficult for an institution like the Kamehameha Schools to be all things to all people, even more so to all Hawaiians. Just look at the range of opinions within the Hawaiian community regarding the issues of other Hawaiian institutions like DHHL, OHA, the Akaka bill and sovereignty. Everyone has an opinion, and in the end, all should be heard and considered.
In this instance, for whatever reasons, the trustees have made the right call. We need to acknowledge that.
ggdomc-
I think I understand your concerns. I too feel that young people should be allowed to make mistakes. The important thing is that they learn from them.
I guess I’ll look for the 501 results in the morning.

See tol’ you.

Miami is really trying to get bigger at the C and G positions, going after players that are bigger than Samson. I’m a little worried about what this means for Samson after his contract is up (I think that will be after this season). The latest player they signed is a C/G who is bigger than Samson (Miami’s coaches have clearly stated they want bigger and more physical players at C/G)…and Miami’s head coach was his OL coach at Dallas. Samson is listed at 6’3″, 300 pounds and this guy is 6’5″, 310 pounds. Miami is also looking to draft a center this year.
I remember when Miami’s new RB coach signed a FB that he used to coach at KC…and how Reagan was eventually cut from the team in favor of that FB. The sad thing is that FB was eventually cut too…

Two scientists have been in a fierce competition to see who can make the best bionic suit for American soldiers. The scientist in Utah had a big advantage because he had Raytheon backing his group, but the Berkeley scientist just got Lockheed to back his group. It is amazing that these bionic suits can enable a soldier to carry up to 200 pounds without much effort and run 10 mph:

This article seems to indicate that the Berkeley Bionics/Lockheed team is ahead right now in this work:

Commercial ships emit almost half as much particulate matter pollutants into the air as the total amount released by the world’s cars.
This technique can regenerate nerves severed in accidents or blood vessels damaged by disease by using spun-sugar, a process like making cotton candy!
I’m still surprised that the oldest batch of weapons-grade plutonium was found inside a glass jar buried at a dump in Washington State! One good thing is that the technique used to discover that plutonium can be used as a tool in nuclear forensics.

WAFAN: Our State is poor! Starting teachers get around $40,000.
Without trying to be controversial, and I do support KHS’ position, Princess Pauahi’s will provides for “devote a portion of each year’s income to the support and education of orphans, and others in indigent circumstances, giving preference to Hawaiians of pure or part aboriginal blood…”.
If memory serves, only a small portion of the income had been and is used for support and education. Each trustee had his own kuleana which is contrary to trust law but they entrusted her with the educational aspects of the estate. But at least the new ones, even though they are not spending a better portion of the income to education, have expanded the school to the Outer Islands. But the emphasis still seems to be on “college-prep” though it is dual tracked (i.e. vocational).
Maybe those that are upset with the salaries of the trustees should talk to Judge Walter Heen who had been pushing for a charitable corporation to run the school and handle the assets. At least the voice of the Hawaiians could be more clearly heard than leaving it to the five trustees.
re: 380 – sorry, I didn’t mean to pontificate.
I find it very interesting that so many of the highly rated recruits out of high school actually ran the 40-yard dash *slower* when they went to the NFL combine. Four times as many players got slower in college than the number that got faster!
I totally agree with Stretch. Since when did players get a ring for just “showing up”. If they win then cool give um a ring. But a ring for just making it into the bowl game, come on. Do the losers of the super bowl get super bowl rings? I don’t think so. I do respect all the hard work the players put in the make it to the Hawaii Bowl, but I think the money could be put to better use. (i.e. help out players who have to pay to eat at training table etc, etc_
Stretch,
Very interesting news about the changes at Na Koa! I was about to send a check to be at the team or captain level, but if they are going to change things around then I should probably wait until they update their website.
I’d like to thank the companies that wanted to advertise at my warriorquotes blog. I just set up that blog to archive stuff about the Warriors so that it would be easy for me and others to look up stuff in the future. I was surprised when companies wanted a link to their website or a mention of their stuff in a blog post. All of that money is being donated back to Hawaii–it isn’t my money.

I think that midnight’s e-mail account has been hacked. I received an e-mail from him that appears to have been sent by someone else. midnight’s e-mail account is a hotmail account, so I’m guessing that someone hacked into his account like they hacked into Cliff’s account.
Kind of interesting that $160k in salary is causing such a stir now when ten years ago the trustees were taking home $800k to $1.2m and only got criticized because Lokelani ticked people off.

Peters, lokelani, etc made a boatload of money with goldsachs. i truly believed they earned their millions, they made bishop trust value skyrocket. under the table, in their pocket, legal or illegal, their job was to bring in money and that they did. current staff needs to show that they can work it too, so far they lost money. relevance
Don’t really want to get into this because this is the wrong forum and I’m not really that emotionally invested in the issue, but Takabuki was the money man at KSBE. He’s the one who made it rain. The others, particularly Peters and Lokelani, were more known for their incredibly poor investments. In fact weren’t both of them ultimately alleged to have been involved in incredibly poor if not fraudulent investments?
WM I believe you’re right on the takabuki influence and the squandering of money by peters, wong and lokelani…they did well with goldman sachs but everything else was questionable….
To Coach Mack and the players,
As I wrote earlier this morning I’m behind you guys all the way on receiving the rings. I envy how special this moment can be, especially having one crafted from the hands of the coach.
What sorrows me is the contempt of a few saying how undeserving the team is in receiving the rings. For them I’ll say a short Prayer tonight (shortly) with some added admonishments.
Reserved for Coach Mack and the players is a long Prayer, nice and full of blessings of well wishes to the returnees, newcomers and future Warrior alumni that their future paths are safe and successful.
I’ll thank the Lord for allowing me to witness a thoughtful and caring coach giving his players rings. The act in itself is symbolic of a lot of things.
The ring is a keepsake that the players will treasure for the rest of their lives, something that can’t be said about an iPod. Something that can’t be said about a ring purchased across the counter, for this ring is special made by the coach. And it should be very significant for the players.
Forty, fifty years from now material things will come and go, ups and downs in life will come and go for these players. But the one thing they’ll always have are these rings. And this is very special for the players, and prayerfully I wish some that are expressing opposition to this will see.
roysan16,
I have to agree with you on the rings. In 2008 the players and coaches righted a sinking ship, which was abandoned by the former captain and, against all odds, layed the ground work for future success.
Let them have their rings, they persevered.
hiya Tsaikos everywhere.
roysan16
Coach had to make the tough call earlier on when trying to motivate his players, build up unity, chemistry. he made the call on the ring. he keeps his word. you can tell the character of the man by what he does in action, not words. I back your thoughts 1000% on the ring thing. he earned it, his first year. not easy to bring in a whole new staff and recruit on a month’s notice. I have relearned the word Patience because of Coach. Mike Smith, Chris Tormey and Gordie Shaw and how Coach recruited this year, he’s earned my respect.
nuff said.
DPK
howzit howzit. agree with your thoughts. also agree with WM and the idea put forth by Judge Sam King. to make that happen, imo would have to be a petition by the BE trust to change. but first, there’d have to be a public education. a suit to bust the trust would put da public trust idea onto da front burner. always gonna get pros and cons within any institution and how its run.
If I was to grade KS/BE, I say A for my ohana. I didn’t raise my brothers and sisters by myself. 😀 I had help from KS. 😆 😆 😆

Good morning Tsaikos. another windy, cold day, but got a game this am, so got to get ready. take care and may the warmth of the day, keep all of you healthy.
Roysan16,
Don’t worry I say a prayer for you and your misguided insight. Okay so the rings were paid with money that was supposed to be for iphones or whatever. My point is that awarding a ring that says “Hawaii Bowl 2008” implies that they won the Hawaii Bowl. Again do the runner-ups of any bowl games including the Super Bowl get awarded rings with the bowl game on it. I don’t think so. It would be hilarious if Notre Dame did not make Hawaii Bowl 2008 rings for their players. So the losers are walking around with the Bowl game ring. If Mack made some kind of promise then maybe the ring should have just said Hawaii Football 2008 or something like that without mentioning the Hawaii Bowl.
