Pro experience

Every aspiring worker faces the chicken/egg dilemma: You can’t get a job without experience and you can’t get experience without a job.

This past weekend, former Warriors Kody Afusia, Taylor Graham and Luke Ingram participated in NFL tryouts. All reportedly did well at the rookie minicamps — Afusia with the Arizona Cardinals; Graham and Ingram with the New York Giants. Graham had the longest scoring pass during Saturday’s practice.

Although they did not come away with contracts, they gained experience and their work/skills are entered in the system. That’s significant because NFL teams now have more archived information than 40 times, bench-press reps and college highlight videos. Maybe there will be other pro opportunities. But at least they have a resume for teams to make more informed decisions.

With the volleyball season over, the redshirt has come off libero Mamane Namahoe.

It had been a dream for one of UH’s proudest — and loudest! — fans to watch Namahoe play in 2016.

Namahoe’s grandfather was BigHiloFan2 (Gerard Lee Loy).

There are some players who might not look the part, but if you put them in a game situation, they certainly will do well.
I think Kody Afusia is one of those guys. I think he’s a pretty good athlete and leader.

Are we still trying to sign more football players–how many scholie’s do we have left? GO WARRIORS! What is the status of that NG or DT N. Taylor?

They’re challenging Marcus Mariota to the NFL. 1420 AM radio 8:20 am Sunday morning. Gary Dickman show and Cris Hart. They’ll be driving a new sports car soon if they make it in. Plus a house too.

  7. Tiki808 May 11, 2015 10:37 am

According to the news, there are only a handful of players in Marcus Mariota situation. Stardom? Them. Abrahim Elimimmian, Kurt Gouviea(been there awhile), Beau Yap(TV UH campus), Joey Iosefa, …? Niko Noga, Al Noga, Rich Miano, have already tasted the rich life of fame, money, and NFL. Now some of them are back in Hawai’i to relax from the faster lanes of Los Angeles, Michigan, New York, or where ever. I forgot to mention Greg Salas is there too. All Warriors who can deliver the winning blow. Champions by heart.

Graduation is almost here. We can expect many student/athletes to be getting their degrees. What can we look for? From Hawaii players? Fame, ESPN, NFL, interviews, paychecks, parties, life, women, drinking, love, a tale told for few generations to remember. Let us make this one a special graduation. Warriors and champions in life. Go getters. Looking forward to seeing some of you at the top. You won’t be alone there. We’ll be there too.

    Don’t understand that post 7 means…

Are you talking Stardom and retiring in Hawaii in comfort, for players with Hawaii ties?

June Jones, Maake & Chris Kemoeatu, Chris Fuamatu-Maafala, Ashley Lelie, to name a few. Greg Salas hasn’t reached “Stardom” yet

    17. (from the Iosefa post)

Remember how crafty Todd Takayoshi was on the base-paths?

  13. Tiki808 May 11, 2015 3:16 pm

Greatest Hawai’i player ever? Russ Frances and Sid Fernandez, 1982.

May I remind you KIF is not qualified to antagonize, because of too small numbers.
    sorry.

Way to go Joey! Hope to see you play on Sundays.

Congrats Leisha! 7 for 9. Awesome!

    Like father, like son.

If you look up Kent Graham’s college numbers at Ohio State, you’ll see that his sample size was similarly paltry.

    Good luck to him.

    I guess he’s a legacy pick.

I still have Timmy Chang’s pre-season appearance with the Philadelphia Eagles stored away in VHS purgatory.

What I remember from that afternoon was shouting, “C’mon, Timmy,” on every single snap.F

I wonder what Dan Robinson’s two incomplete passes as a Baltimore Raven looked like?

    Rolo.

    If he leads the Rhine

  17. cappie the dog May 11, 2015 8:44 pm

…Rhein Fire to victory on their game-winning drive, he probably makes the Denver Broncos roster as the third-string quarterback.

    Conjecture, yes.

    Great Morning All!

Hoping for renewed efforts towards UN-disjointed commentary today.

Almost time for a new post so we shall see! 😎
