Plastic cycle
The Warriors will take it up another notch with, in coachspeak, the addition of plastic at today’s afternoon practice.
With the aggressiveness of the first two spring practices, it appeared the Warriors already were in pads. Today it becomes official.
Some observations:
• “I’m mad, and we’re going to talk about this,” Norm Chow fumed after a player’s indecision cost the Warriors 50 seconds of practice time. Chow believes that every minute counts, and the discipline administered in the spring will pay off in the fall.
• No depth chart yet, but the first rotation offensive unit has been: X Trevor Davis, LT Blake Muir, LG Chauncy Winchester-Makainai, C Kody Afusia, RG David Lefotu, RT Jordan Loeffler, Y Waylon Loloti, Z Billy Ray Stutzmann, FB Jared Leaf, TB Joey Iosefa, QB David Graves.
• Again, no depth chart, but Chow said Ben Clarke is the No. 2 center. So far.
• With his long hair and build, quarterback Ikaika Woolsey has drawn comparisons to Bryant Moniz. Woolsey joked he would get a Sharpie and draw tattoos on on his hands.
• Darryl McBride is back at strong-side linebacker.
• With practices set for the afternoon this fall, the training table is switching from breakfast in the Sheriff Center to dinner at the dormitory cafeteria. The players are on their own for breakfast and lunch . . .
• . . . Did we mention there is an L&L on the second floor of the athletic complex?
• Count Justin Vele among the many linebackers who have been impressive.
• Pi‘i Minns, a member of the UH basketball team, is trying out for the football team.
Wham! 🙂
Thank goodness for this new post. I was almost overcome by spam!
wow am I foist?
too slow
DPK, your fingers are just too fast. Back to lurking.
Like the looks of the first team on the non-depth chart…
that’s a lot of beef on the first o unit.
graves is the small one.
not too many surprises, other than blake muir at LT. nobody will outwork blake muir the awesome aussie.
Not fast. Right place, right time. 😆
Fullback Jared Leaf and Tailback Joey Iosefa? Interesting.
Top X!
(once the spam clears)
morning
small kine luncheon meat befoa the heavy spam set in
It’s amazing how “small” Iosefa looks in this offense.
Dustin Elisara might be a guy to watch in the future. He’s been impressive as a fullback.
You really have to study numbers before practice. By the time you try to look up a number, bam, the next group is in.
UH website is showing Sean Shigematsu as a freshman. I’m wondering if that is correct? He redshirted in 2010. Did he get a medical redshirt in 2011? Which would explain going into 2012 as a freshman. Hmmmmm, very interesting.
Thanks for the updates Stephen Tsai.
UH Spring FB Prospectus lists “little” Joey Iosefa as 6′ 240 lbs.
Good looking offensive line if you’re judging them purely by size. Of course, after the fast-paced fall camp, they will all play the 2012 season 10 to 15 pounds lighter than listed.
Blake Muir 6-5 290 / 285
Chauncey Winchester-Makainai 6-4 325 / 310
Kody Afusia 6-2 305 / 295
David Lefotu 6-3 305 / 295
Jordan Loeffler 6-5 315 / 305
I remember Coach Chow mentioning a Aussie as being one of ther better linemen…I guess he has impressed Coach Chow thus far…
Good that the “talking” happens after practice instead of dressing down a player on the spot…at least for now, that is. This first Spring Camp is for learning.
Hope all the players are able to adjust to the change in the training table. Can’t be skippin’ breakfast!
awesome blog post today with a ton of information!
that’s a big backfield with iosefa and leaf in there. funny that the tailback is bigger than the fullback (weight wise).
glad to hear muir is running with the ones. from the second he signed with hawaii i was excited. he already looked like a prototypical LT.
very excited for the future of the LB corp with vele and fonua.
what position is pi’i trying out for? following his fellow b-ballers miah and lutu eh? from the hardwood to the gridiron (and vice versa).
Good morning Tsaikos!
Happy Thursday!
Go BaseBows!
Believe UH roster lists a player’s status as of this academic year, so Mr. Shigematsu would be a RS-Fr.
last time i’ll mention it, but seriously… savaiinaea gets an article about his “commitment” to stanford and nothing on wa’a committing to UH? sad.
Aloha Kakahiaka!
GO WARRIORS!
Can’t wait to see what the “Jumbo” packages look like. UH players are physical, glad that they’re gonna have a chance to bang heads early and often.
Any chance they move one of the OG to C? Like Lefotu or Makainai? I know we have a bit more depth at OG than C, especially come fall.
Because this still is the 2011-2012 academic year, I suppose Shigematsu is still technically a freshman. Although for football fan’s purposes, it would be better to promote everybody to their 2012 status.
Leaf is the blocking fullback that we will need to have a successful running game. I have been waiting for a very long time to see Vele on the field as a Warrior. Not surprised with Muir I knew that it was just a matter or time.
AIIG:
Always a chance.
I do note that DPK’s relative is now an offensive tackle.
DPK:
Joey was never 240, not even last year.
It reminds me of the old grocer who used to put his thumb on the scale.
Ok, now I’m dating myself.
And, by the way, when did butcher become meat cutter?
blake muir 6’5″/290
chauncy winchester-makaniai 6’4″/325
kody afusia 6’2″/305
david lefotu 6’3″/305
jordan loeffler 6’5″/315
Godspeed to whoever got Coach Chow’s attention.
i think a center will arrive in the summer.
Hmmm… I better pay attention more often now when I buy poke.
The relative is excited about the change. He’s loving the new Coaches too.
Is there an echo???
wow…kifi. scary we were thinking alike here.
i had gathered those vital statistics and left on the comment box to post. then i got distracted and posted it finally without looking at your comment.
ummm. yah, i did fall asleep for a brief time.
When they decided to organize. ‘Marketing and Public Relations’ said that ‘Meat Cutter’s Union’ sounds better than the ‘Butcher’s Union’. They had an easier time signing up new members when they made the change.
ST & Tsaiko Blog Dogs:
@#30: Butchers became Meat Cutters when they joined a union.
[30: …And, by the way, when did butcher become meat cutter?]
Ever since Sam knocked up Alice.
Kevin-
How ’bout dem Wahine Softballerettes. They ready for this weekend?
a butcher is like the executive chef, one who can do everything. a meat cutter, maybe a line cook or sous chef.
butchers can go to your farm, kill the animal and cut em up into specific cuts of meat. meat cutters work behind the glass at costco and come to the door when you press the buzzer.
nothing against meat cutters, i have relatives and friends who are meat cutters and they do carry very sharp knives. plus they bring over prime cuts for the grill.
That makes sense about the union.
My son’s friend just got a job as a meat cutter.
There’s the training session (the meat you cut should not be your own), and some good benefits.
In Dallas, there was/is a restaurant called the Butcher Shop. You go there, pick out the cut of steak from the display area, then the chef cooks it for you.
Of course, everywhere but Texas they call that Benihana’s.
First blush.
Young O and experienced receivers (4 starters return) to go with a RB corps that lacks top conference speed to turn the perimeter corner….Hawai’i’s wild card will be QB David Graves.
He showed flashes last year as a capable replacement starter after Moniz went down with a season ending injury. Graves has the maturity, assests and IQ to learn quickly. Three years in the RNS system should prep Graves for Chow’s pro-set. Moreover, his mentor, is arguably, the best in college football.
Still, Coach Chow’s O will be hard pressed, without his own selected personnel in his first year, to produce the yardage warrior fans are accustomed.
To breakeven in 2012, our D must make the difference with a turn-a-round performance in 2012.
ST-
He’s probably been asked and made fun of about this all his life but, try ask Blake if he’s a descendant of John?
that first oline is a great starting point,
A-Joe,
March was nuts as usual. The constant tournaments altered their weightroom schedule.
They got back on track with their usual conditioning routine so was pretty INTENSE since Monday.
Freakin weather better hold up!!!!!
A-Joe:
Will do.
I’m still intrigued by somebody who refers to football as an “unusual sport.”
butcher to meat cutter evolved around the sixties.
hang that one on the unions.
meat cutter does sound a bit more sophisticated.
i think jason’s dad was a butcher/meat cutter.
American Football = Armoured WANKball to some of them Aussies… 😆 😆 😆
Kevin:
know what you mean. I used to be in a softball league in Manoa. All day the skies would be clear. Then in the afternoon, clouds started to form. Dark clouds. Over Manoa. And then it rained a half hour before first pitch.
NASCAR = unsusal sport.
Unusual that it is considered a “sport”.
Al:
I think “meat engineers” would be a cool title.
Then again, phonetically, it would sound like an invitation to a party of engineers.
oops…sorry kifi. i did it again without looking at your post.
and when sean shigematsu gets healthy, that bounceback center arrives, that jc otackle is enrolled, that oline could also be in for some juggling. not to exclude levy legay either.
Kevin:
Since that ESPN commercial, I do wonder where NASCAR drivers go when they have to make pit stops.
ST,
I think we’ll be ok. As you know, the field holds up to periodic and quick downpours. It’s that longstanding constant rain that screws everything up.
Frick, we can’t afford to lose WAC games played. Could obviously mean the difference between a regular season title and NO reg season title.
NASCAR pit stops?
Don’t they have some kind of flap and vacuum device in the car?
When did catheter become “flap and vacuum”?
Is that a union thing?
what? nascar has enlargement devices?
just saw the headline, “Kahuku student confesses to cutting down banyan tree”. will he one day become potus?
Do they have “release valves” in NASCAR?
Sort of a defense mechanism to drafting. (that in itself is more fodder for humor)
It would be fun if the rapper Nas sponsored a racing team.
Then when he wins, it would be rapper Nas’ car wraps up NASCAR.
Where a butcher was once a specialty profession Meat Packing houses that popped up in the midwest changed the whole playing field in the 1800’s. To work in these houses, you didn’t have to be a butcher to slaughter meat. All you needed was a sharp knife and be able to stand in a production line and cut your designated portion of the meat that passed in front of you. You just needed to be cut meat.
But the game changer in all of this was the advent of the refrigerated railroad cars.
I like go eat one good Kuahiwi Steak now… Rashad Galimba- wea you at!
[59. …When did catheter become “flap and vacuum”?]
Ever since Sam knocked up Alice.
Were the “safety zones” still in place at practice for the media yesterday?
Well..
BASEBALL vs gonzaga has been cancelled.
’cause get snow ladat on da kine.
Everybody’s got a name for it! 😯 😎
In most any other context besides meat cutting, butcher is associated with bad things. Mebbe that’s why they changed it.
Oh my. There I go again, butchering a post by stating the obvious. 😆
baseball team is on a sightseeing tour.
#72 –
Stick around. d1, A-joe, Kevin, kifi and al are just getting started… 😉
an engineer could never be a meat cutter…by the time he draws up the plans and does an environmental impact study the meat will have gone bad.
Whoah! The zapper’s on fire this morning!
off topic or spot on?
i’ve noticed two bloggers who spell this word the same way.
a-s-s-e-s-t-s
hmmm?
If I were a spammer, I would post: Here’s the Warriors’ updated roster.
Then I would link it to a site.
couch potato…you think that the baseball team should still get their per diem since they’ve already missed/cancelled two games on this road trip???
But the engineer could use mathematical theorems and computer programs to work those things out before he even sees the meat in question…
Mahalo!
*updated*
Always good advice ST!
Baylor and Stanford Pro Days.
Why would RGIII and ALuck even risk it?
Why not? It was already allocated in their annual budget.
Pass on… NO PASS BACK!
If I were a spammer…
I’d spammer in the morning,
I’d spammer in the evening
all over this land!

DPK
There was a politician who got hammered, literally, and somebody started singing that tune.
We’re all like: Too soon.
So there was much discussion about the scheduling SNAFU regarding FB vs Track.
Has the “locked gate” SNAFU been addressed for Spring Break next week? Or will the footballers need to enlist the aid of their T&F compatriots and ask to use the pole vaulting equipment to get on the field?
That had to be d1.
As a fellow spammer, I salute your resources, quickness, and steady fingers, sir.
maybe the persons who spell the same had the same english teacher in elementary school.
per diem? sure, we all need per diem.
I think everybody gets the week off next week.
School is closed, too.
You were my second guess, Kevin. Does posting Na Wahine roster count as a stolen base for you?
all you need is a bolt cutter.
Question: I know they had those furloughs to ease the budget. But did they ever put a freeze on OT or comp time? I was surprised to learn that a UH worker’s schedule could not be changed, even though the practice times changed, without charging OT.
Still butchering posts. That’s not a Wahine roster after all.
Now that I found the key to the IDs of each poster, I sometimes let the multiple personalties go because it’s so darn amusing. Yesterday, for instance, somebody actually had a dialogue with himself. I showed it to some people because nobody ever believes there are multiple personalities.
There was no SNAFU on the spring game and track meet.
Track meet was scheduled and football moved their spring game to a Friday night at 6pm. Which is good because people will be getting off work and can come by.
Unless there is a hidden secret regarding how the spring game on a Friday night negatively impacts the football program, again, no one had a problem.
NO ONE originally had a problem, until someone made a crass remark about how football spring training season should take precedence in scheduling over a spring sport that is in their actual competitive season.
The FINAL series people will ever get to see Fresno State vs Hawaii in softball here will begin ALSO at 6pm that same Friday, but as it was the same in 2010, softball has their fans and football has theirs. So no problem and for those opting for the spring football game and just come for the DH the next day (senior night) starting at 2pm.
DPK,
Stolen base? what?
dpk…should not be a meat cutter. otherwise the meat going disappear so fast. das why he get the record at camellia’s.
If I were going to create a second identity, I would play along to the activities. I would say “top ten” or wish somebody a happy birthday.
Kevin:
Actually, it was the football office that wanted to know when the spring finale would be held because they kept getting different dates.
in a nutshell, any authorized work outside of the employee’s normal workday/hours, the employee is entitled to overtime pay or compensatory time credit.
Finally got caught. I actually feel better now.
hey st…could you please solve the one mystery that no one has ever discovered or confessed to?
like, who is koamahu?
you know i haven’t been to camellia all year.
kifi…is that you?
Koamahu is really ST’s “other” personality. Haha just the thought of it makes me chuckle.
Al. I know several Tsaikos that fit the description.
By the way, I’m on the greater-good side.
Several years ago, the City took the greatest street — Punchbowl makai-bound — and ruined it with the left-turn-only signal at the King intersection. There might be one or two people who cross King per light, yet dozens of cars are held up waiting for the green arrow. I’ve seen a bicyclist hit the crossing button, zip across in three seconds, while the cars kept waiting and waiting.
Point is it would be better to inconvenience a few pedestrians than a great number of motorists.
And it’s not just the motorist closest to the intersection. The domino effect impacts cars several streets away.
kifi…i am glad you spell your name with two “i’s” instead of two “e’s”.
#93 Speaking of multiple personalities did you know that many media folks especially those on TV use a fake name.
No, it isn’t me.
Darned, bad habit.
Yes, it’s me.
kifi…for example…whom do you speak of?
last call…chris tanaka for example?
By the way, didn’t meant to launch a finger-pointing session.
This is just a blog.
It isn’t important like somebody farting and blaming somebody else.
st…is full of “useless knowledge trivia” today.
Maybe I’m wrong. Not really good at spelling. Perhaps it is supposed to be with two “e’s”.
so what’s better?
fried rice with two eggs over easy?
koamahu never really was the same after las vegas passed. my observation.
thanks for practice info. it appears that practice is well organized and players are responding to the discipline and responsibilities of the newest version of da warriors. also good to see that all the players are being given opportunities.
I think Dan Cooke used to use the radio name Captain Cooke. And then he used his real first name, but kept the Cooke.
“Useless knowledge trivia” is redundant.
And repetitive.
st…will you tell dpk to stop doing that.
this looks like “fun” day on the blog, so have lots of fun and play nice. gameday!!!!
Fried rice two eggs over easy. Wonder Kapiolani Coffee Shop only gives one egg. You gotta ask for the second one, and the third, fourth, and fifth one.
i thought chris tanaka was vietnamese.
I try to stay within my limits.
I have a holier-than-thou attitude about marketing because I’m old and watch a lot of television.
I don’t tell 19- or 20-year-olds how to play their sports because, well, I’m old and watch a lot of television.
#122 – Wonder why…
kifi…i guess it depends upon who gave you such an endearing nickname.
your grandma or some hater?
And I wonder, wonder, who, who-oo-oo, who wrote the book of love.
Before I forget, thanks to ST, d1 and everyone else for their reports about practice. How exciting! And……..cheepono for the video yesterday. I watched it…love it! Circle Wednesday, April 18 (evening) on your calendars…Na Koa Football Club is putting together something just prior to their trip to Maui.
you can buy a sausage mcmuffin at mcdonalds for 99 cents but ask for a sausage egg mcmuffin and it costs a whopping $2.49! one small egg cost $1.50 more!
so that’s why KCS uses one egg.
kifi…you somewhat answered my riddle.
what’s better than fried rice with two eggs over easy…is fried rice with four eggs over easy.
and yah, that’s my only complaint about the kim chee fried rice and egg at tiffany’s. they take that truth in menu law to the tee by serving a mountain of their infamous kim chee fried rice with one little egg.
Somebody asked us:
An item cost $97. A guy borrows $50 from his mother and $50 from his father. He then gives each back $1, meaning he owes each $49. If $49 and $49 equal $98, and the item is $97, what happened to the extra dollar?
Who makes the best fried rice anyway. Used to like Kapiolani Coffee Shop, but not sure if they have the best.
If the world stopped spinning, would we all get dizzy?
#132 – Probably to Uncle Neil plus $3.00+ dollars from your wallet!
We wouldn’t know because the massive amount of friction involved in the Earth slowing down to a halt would have vaporized all living things, even bacteria.
A gradual slowing perhaps we’d live but then the weather would get all messed up and we’d eventually die as well.
Tuesday’s practice really ended at 5:30 p.m. But then they stretched. And stretched. And stretched. And then it was 6 p.m. when a white car pulls up. And there’s Uncle. With the TV crews going live, Uncle greets the team, then walks back to the car, right in video range.
What a coinky dink.
During the California Gold Rush of 1849 miners sent their laundry to Honolulu for washing and pressing. Due to the high costs in California during these years it was deemed more feasible to send the shirts to Hawaii for servicing.
I knew a riddle like that involving three people splitting the cost of a hotel room and then tipping the bellhop. In the end they were either missing a dollar or short a dollar.
I don’t remember the whole riddle though.
ST, that $97 question…cost of item and what he owes are mutually exclusive. the dollar is in his pocket.
FOUND IT!!!
3 men go into a hotel.
The man behind the desk said the room is $30 so each man paid $10 and went to the room.
A while later the man behind the desk realized the room was only $25 so he sent the bellboy to the 3 guys’ room with $5.
On the way the bellboy couldn’t figure out how to split $5 evenly between 3 men, so he gave each man a $1 and kept the other $2 for himself.
This meant that the 3 men each paid $9 for the room, which is a total of $27 add the $2 that the bellboy kept = $29.
Where is the other dollar?
AL #101
I thought all these years it was you! 🙂
Couch potato be my sweet potato.
there is no missing dollar. the men only spent $9 dollars each -> $27 and the boy took $2 -> $25
$25 -> cost of the room.
Kevin #140, I remember the riddle differently cuz I never could solve it.
(spoiler: solution to the version you posted is to add up the dollars that went back to the customers, then the math works out.)
lol @ Koamahu.
Tom Mui:
I am not koamahu.
I’ve figured out a lot of things with this program, but I can’t figure out how I can post under a name without changing all of the save commands.
Before I can answer, were the guy or his mother or father a day late while any of this was happening?
Ok who Googled the answer????
Nah, j/k.
well played!
This is the 100th anniversary of Titanic’s sinking, Oreo cookie, Girl Scouts, Lifesaver candy, Fenway Park …
Great minds back in 1912.
I still think the iPad3 trumps a ship that splits when it hits an iceberg. If only lifesavers were invented earlier.
L & L in Seattle actually is one of the caterers to UW’s training table when the seniors can make such requests. Talking to locals who live on the continent, some will drive miles for their local plate lunch fix in places like Washington State, Utah, and Oregon.
Favorite Lifesaver?
Pineapple.
But you only got one in the roll.
Favorite Starburst?
Cherry.
So juicy makes me wanna punch a hole in the wall.
There was a man one night. He started to run straight forward. Then he turned left. Soon after, he turned left again. When he got home, there were 2 masked men, Who were the men?
L&L is NOT local food at it’s finest. But on the mainland better than nothing I guess…
Like saying poke from Foodland is the best we have to offer.
Starburst is good.
Starburst wrappers not so good.
On warm days, I can’t peel it correctly. Always end up eating a piece of wax paper.
Ah.. gotta love night BASEBALL games. 😎
What’s wrong with Foodland poke? I always hear people say stuff about it.
Wait.
Lifesavers were introduced in the same year the Titanic sank? Talk about “too soon”!
Reminds me of the White Rabbit candy.
When I was a kid, the first time I tried to eat it, I wasted a lot of them trying to peel the damn wrapper (which I thought was cellophane) off of them.
Always knew that bad breath played a role in the Titanic disaster.
Tanioka’s. Safeway’s cuts their too big. Foodland isn’t that bad. Paina Cafe’s poke bowl at Ward Warehouse is good.
Foodland poke is ok, just not Fresh Catch or Tamura’s by FAR.
Foodland is hit or miss depending on who’s making it. The ahi shoyu isn’t as good as it should be.
They say when trying a new restaurant, you should try their common dish first to see if the rest is good. For example, a new Italian restaurant pops up and you wanna see if it’s good. So order spaghetti or lasagna. If it’s great then they’re good to go. If not, PASS!!!
Kevin is too quick.
Every time I think about Girl Scout cookies, I’m reminded of Inoke Funaki’s joke:
Q: What happened after the monster ate Tonga?
A: He wanted to eat Samoa.
ST,
At your age, a little extra fibre is beneficial…. or so they tell me.
kifi,
Nah, just happened to hear that one recently.
Kevin:
I ordered the chicken meatballs at Paesano’s.
Next time there, the waiter asked if I wanted “the usual.”
I don’t even like chicken meatballs, but it’s the only place I have a “usual,” so I always get it there.
Never been to Paesano’s. Last Italian place I went to was Pietro’s on Kapiolani.
The raw potato salad is AWESOME with the ume dressing.
foodland poke is made from previously frozen carbon dioxide treated and dyed fish from the asia waters. quite often from the phillipines.
a lot of retailers also sell that toxic fish. the price if cheap means its that frozen stuff.
tanioka’s makes a good one.
Howzit, everyone!
Mahalo once again for all the updates! Love hearing how things are going… good, bad, or whatevas.
My, you all are in top form this fine day! Cracking me up non-stop!
Didn’t think the butcher/meat cutter query was serious. Upon first reading it, I thought maybe the change was made due to the negative image from those horror flicks, as eventually pointed out by (I think) DPK.
Kevin… I used to try pulling that cellophane off too, until one of my older cousins slapped my head, took one from me, and ate it as is…. grumbling that I was wasting the best part.
Have a great day, everyone! Looking forward to a great weekend too.
kifi…best fried rice is made by #2 son.
Is practice at 3 or 3:30 TODAY?

Good afternoon!
#99:
interesting remark regarding “over time pay” – is this based on a “union” contract?
why? – a knowledgable/official type person at the Department of Labor, State of Hawaii said OT pay can be allowed only if a person works over 40 hours/week – example he gave was, work 15 hours today, 20 hours tomorrow, and 5 hours the next day – no “overtime” pay for today and tomorrow because I worked only 40 hours that week – go figa!
They’re still sorting out who goes where in the secondary.
Mike Sellers, Dee Maggitt and Brian Clay were corners yesterday.
ot -> in my nutshell, in excess of 8 hour day or 40 hour workweek. that means if you have to stay after work or get called back to work after your 8 hour workday, or have to work on days off ( more than your 40 hour work week).
i was talking about the unionized hgea worker at uh that i thought ST was mentioning. if he was talking about another union like upw, or carpenters, or masons, or ilwu or nurses, then i don’t know.
Here’s a link to the best Warrior fans talking story. I really like this site. You should too.
Good afternoon everyone!
Been under the weather all week. Nasty flu. Miss the cattle call and then really go downhill.
I believe there have been several Koa-Mahu/Koamahu. The original one, circa 2007, I had narrowed down to 2 suspects. Then there have been at least two others (consistently posting) and not just casual imitators.
Wish I had access to the data. las vegas/Rasu Begasu had 4 blog names that I knew about, but he was not Koa Mahu.
Coach Potato – Only problem for the BaseBows going sightseeing, cause no can play baseball, there is nothing to see where they are. The only thing to see there is Gonzaga University.
…they could stop by djmitcho’s house! 😛
Hello! How do you feel about young composers?!….
better than youthful posers, I suppose….
BTW, I wanted to extend my thanks to AKA for mailing my charitable donation letter on 3/20/12 and dating the letter 1/20/12!
(did I mention that my refund check arrived yesterday? 👿 )
Thanks for sharing, this is a fantastic blog.Really looking forward to read more. Awesome.
Lots of tough love in practice yesterday. Made practice seem like their on a mission to prove something. A lot of yelling and coaching.
Brenden Daley, David Lefotu and Craig Cofer have caught my attention during practice. Really hoping Daley stays healthy. Also, David Lefotu is the best OL they have. Cofer caught an incredible pass.
Is there a Poki Shop or Poki Place in Waipahu?
Owner is Elmer Guzman, former Exec Chef at Hy’s.
Poki or Poke?
Will Coach Chow use a double TE scheme without a slot receiver?
Say, maybe Darius Bright can be the TE/Slot receiver!
LizK:
now, young lady, its near the end of day o fmy day – tired, sleepy, cranky – and your’e correct – my pinga went to the “i” instead of da “e”.
is there a difference between poki and poke?
And sometimes, it seemed as if the players were in full pads by the way their were hitting one another minus the tackling.
Poke Stop.

Poki is a green horse
BG808,
How you?
Yep. Pretty aggressive on Tuesday. Don’t expect to hear, “Stay on your feet.” too much tomorrow.
The implicit message, though, might be, “Put ’em on his a$$!”
get Poke Stop in Waipahu, and Mililani.
poke is to cut into cubes
poki is a supernatural dog from Kauai or thereabouts.
200
but when in Waipahu, as mentioned above, no can beat Tanioka’s. Yama’s was in Waipahu years ago, his poke back then was made to order. had good laulau too.
poki’s poke…palolo.
tanioka’s alae ahi or aku poke. the stuff to drink beer with.
Agree with Al,
Foodland sells alot of frozen stuff so to me texture is grainy. Hard to beat the Tanioka spicy ahi. Not too much mayo like most places. Shoyu style also ono there. Always fresh.
dat’s one ting guud about Hawaii, da pupu with da beer.
Great article post. Thanks Again. Really Cool.
ahhh, shoyu poke with a touch of fresh squeezed ginger juice and green onions. so simple, too good.
Have there been any issues with the video work done in the first two practices?
i don’t know.
Noted that there was a table setup at the Players’ Gate for Walk-on sign-ins? Didn’t stick around to see who signed up
….or what kine gift they brought.
heheheh
Eh! Cha look you!

Anybody like go sign-up and pass along the info to the rest of us? 😉
I’m over on Maui for the volleyball match tomorrow and when you walked into the Times market in Kihei The first thing you see is a rack with the official UH gear and the prices are really reasonable.
Chaminade is looking to hire an assitant to the AD there.
Greetings All! Todays banterings as always is such a crack up! You guys are the funniest and never fail to make my laugh! Oh yeah, and thanks for the football updates!
Wait wait! Somebody talked football? Must be somewhere under all at fish and limu.
Wow! I saw the headline and i thought Kekoa was making expansion plans for the Ceded Lands!
http://www.kitv.com/news/money/Pearlridge-Center-bought-by-minority-owner/-/8905154/9685074/-/r9dxms/-/index.html
L&L is far from nutritious, how come they can’t put another eattery there for the athletes? I’ve lost fifteen pounds so far in one month just eatting real food alone. Okay, well I’m missing out on on the Ono stuff you guys were discussing, but that comes with trying to lose weight. But, for the athletes they need more than Rice, Mac salad and Katsu!
@ 216 : )
🙂
I’m pretty sure the steadiest customer at the on-campus L&L is the Blog Host! 😉 😆
doesn’t L&L have an atkins plate lunch?
SteveM,
Hope you feeling better!
…and it comes with curious stares from the other patrons!
Someone once suggested that our store sell fresh fruit so I went out and bought some apples, oranges and bananas.
A few days later I found myself going out to buy replenishments of candy, chips and soda. On the way out I dumped the spoiled fruit.
D1 das why hard Fo lose weight all da junk (Ono) food 🙂
almost practice time.
GO WARRIORS!
Please post anything from practice whoever’s going!
Major thanks for the blog post.Really looking forward to read more.
If you want nutritious, you would need to put an organic garden on top of the athletic complex and let the cows graze in the practice field, raise milk goats on the hillsides, catch and cook the dang feral chickens…oh yeah and go loves Bakery in Kapalama to get good clean spring water.
OOps.. not Kapalama.. but Kapahulu.
Guessing everyone went out to practice.
then you would need a butcher to process those live animals. 😉
Watching practice the other day with the Greatest pass catching RB of all time Nate Ilaoa, asked how he like running with added FB and TE as he turned and just smiled told me a lot.
When we watched Nate catch those shuffle pass from Colt it was all Nate just shrugging off tackler behind him.
yeah, Kapalama canal get plenty clean spring water.
#234 meat cutter.
Get ready for Practice #3 with Pads.
Aloja
@230 you know mih, your idea just might solve more problems with UH athletics than you think! 🙂
According to Ferd Lewis on Twitter:
Gavin Petersen is one of the last THREE finalists for the Rainbow Wahine Basketball head coaching position to receive an interview.
No doubt Mike Taylor was the other… who’s 3rd???
BTW,
The Mike Taylor thing is what I wrote, NOT Ferd.
C’mon, it seems like a SAFE assumption.
if 2 of 3 are Petersen (players choice) and Taylor then must never had good applicants in the pool of 41.
This is the university and state process we’re talking about here…
Best and brightest isn’t exactly a requirement they stick to all the time.
i apologize to the other applicants. didn’t mean to say your resume’s are not good. could be other circumstances or motives why your names are not in the top 3.
Kevin, 😉 i don’t mean a koamahu 😉 either.
EXACTLY!
Whoa!
Wat was dat tundaris loud clak! I heard coming from Manoa?
This is an example of a conversation with myself. Hello, Joe. Hello, Self. How are you? I am fine. Do you enjoy reading all the rah rah rah stuff found in this forum? Why, yes, I do. I especially like that the host thinks he has it all figured out. This is reassuring. Great. Ok, Self, talk to you later. Kay den.
wait, you follow Ferd’s tweets?
…must be working on lead blocks.
😈
hey there Ozone, how’s that hole in you doing?
If you guys like taste some Ono Poke…Go to Gold Mart liquor in Mililani…Fresh as can be they get plenty stuff poke, garlic edamame, pipikaula…the gold mart Special and spicy ahi are winnahs…
Whenever I hear of somplace called “so and so Mart” I tink I going walk in and see red cuttlefish hanging above the register.
No I don’t follow Ferd’s tweets, was re-tweeted from someone else.
Brian McInnis retweeted that.
is John Hardy-Tuliau still on the roster? Just wondering cause I haven’t heard much about him wether he’s staying at safety or moving back to CB
Councilman Tom Berg SHOULD have a Twitter account.
He NEEDS a Twitter account and I NEED to read it on a daily basis. 😆
besides, how would you know it’s really “ferd”?
Way way way back when, UH used to have a farm in Manoa, I think close to where Manoa District Park is now.
JHT is injured, thus not practicing as well as Mike Edwards. JHT is listed as a CB.
Darius Bright seems to always getting hurt. First the toe, then something else, now something else. I hope he’s not like Greg Oden!!!!
College Football News for Mountain West Pre-season rankings show Hawaii #7. Boise St. is of course #1, followed by Nevada and San Diego State. 4th was Air Force, followed by Fresno State, Wyoming, then the Warriors. Colorado St. was 8th, UNLV was 9th, and New Mexico was 10th. Chow and Co. has something to prove and that should be a lot of motivation. We have Boise, Nevada, UNLV, and New Mexico at home. We should be able to beat UNLV, and the Lobos. 50-50 against the Pack and underdogs against the Broncos.
On the road, we play the Rams, Falcons, Aztecs, and Fresno. We would be happy to split on the road. We are not playing Wyoming this year. We need to beat Lamar and S. Alabama. We will be underdogs against USC and BYU. The key game to me is the Nevada game at home in the Mountain West opener. Win that and we’ll end up around 7-5 which would qualify for a bowl game. This is just the first pass and things will change of course.
Nah Derek. Put me down for 11 and 1 in 2012.
Auwe, too much pride and ego. Sorry.
I cannot thank you enough for the post.Much thanks again. Will read on…
Thanks Derek! Wow Nunber 7! Not so good rookin! Hopefully, coming in as underachievers Warriors will kick butt with Coach Chow in directors chair and raise a few eyebrows! Go Warriors!
273 Kifi, no way! Got to believe to succeed! Cheehoo! 🙂
Interesting, but still I would like to know more about it. Liked the article:DD
Anyone out there can post anymore updates regarding sprint practice? What time did it start today? Who’s doing well? Is the intensity still at a high level?
Anything intersting?
9 minutes ago from fb
I am so grateful for your article post.Much thanks again.
The material is on the five plus. But there is a minus! My internet speed 56kb/sek. The page was loading for about 40 seconds!….
My head is spinning. Litrally. Gonna hunker down in bed. Thanks for all the interesting tidbits.
Somebody let Monty Python lose?
Congrats Saui!!!
@282 , hey SteveM if you haven’t done so please see your Healthcare Provider! I work in healthcare and there’s some nasty stuff going around. Take good care!
If Pi‘i Minns, a member of the UH basketball team, makes the football team, how does that affect his scholarship? AND if he does have to go on a football one, which year does it count against?
mih – I think Pi’i is a walk-on, not sure though.
Minns is a walk-on in basketball.
He sure was, worked as a meat cutter at Star Market for a long time.
My senior year in high school (which was the same year he died), my dad told me that he never actually graduated from high school. He was always proud of attending Saint Louis, but he was never the best student. While talking story with my aunt at Christmas, I learned that he had kept his dropping out a secret from the family. Apparently, when he dropped out, my dad befriended a local butcher and apprenticed under him for a year, while everybody else thought he was at school. 😀
Why not take the team to the big island and do some high altitude training a few days prior to going to play high altitude road games?
Sorry that last post made little sense….stupid phone text editor
293 Jason, hey no shame there for your Dad, school isn’t for everyone. And in today’s economy it seems that mentoring and apprenticeship is a better way for many young men! Your Dad did very very well!
Well, in that case… I guess there’s no scholarship that gets affected either way. Good luck to Minns. Would have been an interesting case, though — with all the NCAA rule changes and such and the dominant sport having to pick up the burden of the scholarship.
I think this is among the most important information for me. And i’m glad reading your article. But want to remark on few general things, The site style is perfect, the articles is really great : D. Good job, cheers
The football team wasted little time making use of the “plastic”. Offense against Defense, One on One, everyone watching. They lined up about 2 yards apart and banged each other.
Internet is written with the capital letter in a sentence, by the way. And hundredths are written not with a point but with a comma. This is according to the standard. And actually everything is very good..!!
I really like and appreciate your blog post. Thanks Again. Cool.
Re: 237. For what it’s worth, this from Inside USC blog:
“We hear USC women’s basketball associate head coach Laura Beeman will be named the head coach at Hawaii as soon as tomorrow.”
Stretch,
Thanks…I heard right!
😉
Laura Beeman has all the qualifications, that’s for sure.
Beeman has NO Punahou ties.
This can’t be true. HA!
wow…both of our head basketball coaches were former assistant coaches at usc.
Does knowing Gib count as a Punahou connection?
Guess so..
DA HUI STRIKES AGAIN!!!!!!!
Hope that rumor is true, do not want Gavin as HC. If she does become the HC, hoping she makes Taylor one of the assistant coaches. Then when she leaves Taylor can become the HC. He would by then gained D1 coaching experience.
Oh, by hiring Taylor, that would be her connection to Punahou.
Hey, thanks for the article post. Cool.
Not bad post, leave it at my bookmarks!….
I truly appreciate this blog article. Much obliged.
Wait wait wait… Duane Shimogawa has not tweeted anything so it can’t be true.
I am getting married on the 15th of November. Congratulate me! Then will be here rarely!….
wow, awesome article post.Really looking forward to read more. Fantastic.
So what, nobody went to practice today?
BIK
Thanks for all the answers:) In fact, learned a lot of new information. Dut I just didn`t figure out what is what till the end!….
The room costs 30, then it costs 25, 5 bucks gets refunded, but that turns out to be 3, even though the guys should be paying around 8 bucks each they end up paying 9 each, and the employee tips himself 2 bucks, and the next practice isn’t until April 3, I think I’m caught up. What?
A round of applause for your blog article.Really looking forward to read more. Great.
Brian McInnis confirms on Twitter:
Laura Beeman is confirmed as the eighth coach in UH women’s basketball program history
@298 BIK doesn’t seem so … Got to wait for updates tomorrow from ST! Night all !
Really enjoyed this blog post.Really looking forward to read more. Awesome.

Associate head coach Laura Beeman enters her second season at USC after spending 15 seasons as the head coach at Mt. San Antonio College. Beeman and USC head coach Michael Cooper already have experience coaching side-by-side with the Los Angeles Sparks, as Beeman was an assistant under Cooper in 2008 with the Sparks while also continuing her position as head coach at Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC).
While at Mt. SAC, Beeman was named conference Coach of the Year four times and was the district and regional coach of the year in 2001. Also 10-time conference champions, Beeman and the Mounties won three straight California Community College State Championships from 2006-2008, for a total of four state titles during her career at Mt. SAC.
In 2009, Mt. SAC reached the state championship tournament 10 times during Beeman’s career. Her 2007 and 2008 teams set program records for the most wins and fewest losses in a single season, as Mt. SAC went 37-1 both years. While coaching at Mt. SAC, Beeman also served as a member of the Southern California Community College Basketball Seeding Committee, as well as All State Chair Person and a member of the California Community College State Basketball Executive Board for eight years. Over 100 of her Mt. SAC student-athletes went on to continue their athletic and academic careers at four-year universities. Also during her career at Mt. SAC, the program produced over 80 South Coast Conference selections, 24 All-State selections and 10 All-Southern California Region selections. She completed her 15-year career at Mt. SAC with a 390-110 overall coaching record.
As a player, Beeman was an All-American as Cal State San Bernardino. She set the career, season and game assist records while playing for the Coyotes. She graduated in 1992 with a degree in business administration. She went on to earn a master’s degree in education with an emphasis on counseling from the University of Redlands, and also earned a master’s in education with an emphasis in physical education from Azusa Pacific University.
I am so grateful for your article. Much obliged.
Appreciate you sharing, great blog.Really thank you! Want more.
Saw the news tonight about a cat that jumped from 19 floors and survived. It reminded me of when we were building a hotel, the boys found a rat on the 12th floor and chased it off the building. 2 workers walked down (no elevator) to dispose of the rat. It wasn’t there. Only took minutes and gone.
lava, you forgot about biofreeze ingredients getting married on Nov. 15. 🙂

HiHo…
Yeah, it is clear now !… Just can not figure out how often do you update your blog?!….
This is a terrific article. You make sense with your views and I agree with you on many. Some information got me thinking. That’s a sign of a great article. http://www.samsung1080phdtv.net/
Of course, I understand a little about this post but will try cope with it!!….
Wow alright Beeman was one of my early picks.
Welcome coach Beeman.
Watching the warriors in spring practice reminds one of military boot camp. There is no time for individuality or a self-styled strut. Participants are just trying to survive the shock. Together.
This is where the team bonding begins and the flaking, ends.
This is where leaders, lead and followers, follow. That is the nature of team work.
About time!
You can be sure, most players are not looking too far ahead at fall camp, except to remind themselves, it will be dreadfully more intense and demanding. I dont foresee late-night clubing as part of camp rituals. Sleep will come fast….and for most, not long enuff.
Post #371 above, before it gets zapped:
Thought it was someone from the NCAA visiting the blog, sharing their knowledge and wisdom… about anything that has to do with COLLEGIATE matters.
Welcome Coach Beeman!
Practice hard, play hard!
GO WARRIORS!!!
Hello! How do you feel about young composers?!….
Read where coach Beeman was asked by USC women’s head coach, Michael Cooper,
to train several hollywood stars in preparation for an upcoming film, “The Hot Flashes”, starring Daryl Hannah, Melanie Griffin and Jessica Rothenberg.
Fun read.
http://www.foxsportswest.com/02/20/12/Laura-Beeman-Trainer-to-the-Stars/landing_usc.html?blockID=669794&feedID=9470
welcome Coach Beeman.
gotta go. hi ho hi ho.
Go Coach Chow.
Go Warriors!
Morning! See u at sb since I can’t get to practices.
Welcome Coach Beeman!
Dis Blog is on da for real. Hit em hard and hit em fast, Peace PLAYA
I would add something else, of course, but in fact almost everything is mentioned!….
Worst day for blog spam ever . . . yuk!
Regards the fake and duplicate blog names, here is my recommendations:
1. First time ST catches them, lock them out for Spring and Fall practices.
2. Second time, Spring and Fall practices and whole Football season.
3. Third time, the New Orleans Saints solution, banned for one year.
4. Having a running argument with themselves – banned for two years.
Hello! How do you feel about young composers?!….
Didn’t get my SA online subscription yet.
Mozart was a young composer.
It’s pleasant sitting at work to distract from itto relax and read the information written here:DD
