Kealoha Pilares addresses the Warriors after this morning’s seventh practice of spring training

Two of the most dynamic players from the Warriors’ recent past — slotbacks Kealoha Pilares and Greg Salas — attended this morning’s spring practice.

Afterward, they addressed the team, then gave pointers to UH receivers, such as slotback John Ursua.

Pilares, a proud new daddy, has served as personal trainer the past few months. Salas moved back to Hawaii for at least another year — he and his wife are expecting their first child in July — and is enrolled in an MBA program.

It was an interesting practice marked with two nifty fights — the offensive linemen learned from last summer’s boxing lessons — and either 1) a rough day for the offense, which threw four interceptions, or 2) a great day for the defense, which made four picks.

    Good morning tsaikos

Brown needs to work on his connection with Ursua. John in the open field is deadly. I like how Brown has been connecting with Collie. Perhaps we will be seeing more 2 slot formations? Those two will give defenses the fits.

Good morning Whitey and bloggers! Let’s make it a great morning…and if yours isn’t yet, we can try a little harder!

I’ve been wanting to personally recognize the super job Matlin has done in selecting coaches. In objective terms of getting the greatest return on money spent, he has done marvelously. I realize Robyn has yet to have one day in her office yet, but I am one of those who believes she will be a worthy successor to Dave. I was stunned at first, but my gut told me, “awesome”. It was exactly the same way when the announcement of Rolo’s hire. Whatever Matlin’s formula is, I like it!

    Morning BG

I expect Ursua to play a much more prominent role in the offense for our upcoming season. Physically, he is much more dynamic than Collie, and given that last year was his first year back playing organized ball in three years, well, he will have much more reps, muscle memory and better grasp of the system—which is simply to say, he will be a major weapon.

    Didn’t even recognize Pilares!

Nice to see the Pride Legacy players in the news and round the practice field. I used to love Pilares and Salas play in tandem. Talk about chemistry!

just was wondering if this is true that jamie tango was dismissed from the team.

  10. H-Man March 7, 2017 12:41 pm

I hope it’s not true about Jamie Tago, but #95 was noticeable absent at Saturday’s practice.

  11. Duster March 7, 2017 2:25 pm

Well, Jamie Tago is still listed in the Spring 2017 roster, for whatever that’s worth.

Man has anyone else heard about the Bobby Curran comments at the UC Davis basketball game? Wow! He called their cheerleaders heifers, or cows, and said that at least four of them go at least 190! What a okolepuka!
Where is the apology from Curran and from the station?
    So far, nothing.
A lady called in to Josh Pacheco yesterday and wanted to talk about it, but Josh shut her down saying he cringed when he heard it and he said he certainly doesn’t condone the behavior.
Where is Dave Matlin in this? Is UH the land of aloha or are we now no better than Trump University?
    This is make shame Hawaii.

It was reported that Jamie Tago is suspended for spring. I hope he can fix whatever issues that he has to get back on the team.

Oldie — tom sent me his new addy. His computer died so he lost his address book, plus his building discontinued roadrunner and he lost his account. Send me an email if you need his addy because your long history with me and many Tsai-kos, I will share it with you.

    Islandman(3/5):

My first memory of Hawaii sports was Tony Wells dunking in a game when dunking was still illegal. I missed the player you mentioned by three seasons.

    Great Morning All!

Good to see Warrior Alumni supporting Rolo and the Warriors.

    Stay safe and dry.

    Das it

Does anyone know what happened to the big Aussie recruit, was suppose to enroll at the U of H in January? He was one of two that made sports headlines, the other is Daniel F. (6′ 9″ = 410lbs). News on him kind of disappeared during LOI period.

  22. H-Man March 8, 2017 7:39 am

ST reported that Eneasi Kavapalu will enroll in 2018. I suspect it’s another situation of getting a player from down under through NCAA qualifying.

  23. Big Island Lava March 8, 2017 7:55 am

    # 19 tako: Check MSNBC they have an article about Dan F. you asked about. Blowing NFL & NCAA away with his size.

  24. WarriorNY March 8, 2017 8:09 am

    Random Question,
What ever happened to that guy David Fangupo(former Hawaii commit)? I read he signed with Oregon State. Is he on that team? I’m looking but not finding anything… I was looking forward to seeing what he was capable of playing D1.
