ST & Tsaiko Blog Dogs,
Wow…!!! Seven Card stud(s), I wonder who will go all in and take the pot!
Good morning Tsaikos. Great pics ST!!
Good to see them passing, but are they really getting in condition for opening day of practice?????
Nice to see the recruits working out already.
morning dj and adave
Whitey:
They do about two hours of conditioning (running, lifting) in the morning, then go to class, then go 5-on-6 for about 90 minutes in the afternoon.
After that, a bunch of them went to play basketball.
any other young ones at cooke/ching yesterday besides the qbs and tonga?
wheres the boys in the trenches? at zippys or something?
The linemen lift and run in the morning and afternoon; they also do footwork in Klum Gym.
And everybody watches videos every day.
Top 10!
…of the second ten!
masch arrived already right?
Great Morning All!
Who is stepping up into the leader role?
Happy Birthday Rich2176!
Stephen,
Remember to use your sunscreen!
Greg Alexander is stepping up as a leader.
I need a combination sunscreen/umbrella. The weather in Manoa is tricky.
ST do you have a special teams depth chart?
Oh, wait: isn’t an umbrella a sun screen?
labrat:
I didn’t get one of those, but the Australian guy is the punter, the kicker on scholarship is the kicker, and Luke Ingram is the long-snapper.
Yuck, yuck.
Actually, you can find all kinds of hats and head coverings in manly-men styles at Kaiser’s pharmacy. I’m sure that similar items can also be found at major retailers as well.
Don’t risk skin cancer or extra wrinkles. Had a meeting yesterday with a staffer of an elected official and had difficulty in not staring at her face which looked like an aerial photo of a dried-up lake. If she’s 50, I’d be very surprised.
The Stadium Authority is holding a special meeting this morning to set up an ad hoc committee to investigate ways to help UH reduce its costs and expand its revenues. I don’t think any non-Authority members will be on it, but I certainly hope that either Jim Donovan or Carl Clapp are at least consulted before any decisions are finalized at either the June or July Authority meetings.
Sad to hear of David Carradine’s passing.
Which of these three will lead us to victory against USC? Boise? and beyond?
Morning everyone.
Good luck to all the QB’s.
Good to see that they’re all here, and working hard.
He appeared in a lot of kung fu movies, so i thought he was in good health condition.
ST, wassup doc has excellent suggetion. get one of those big filipino straw hats and that should really help. the downside is that people may think you are the maintenance man.
poor got to add, hahahahahahaaaaaaa
ST, find out what hugh is up to these days when you out there. great guy.
got to get ready for game day today, so have a good one.
Oops… which of those six.. not three… too early.. going back to bed.. zzz
No need for Alexander to turn his head but I hope he hears those footsteps.
Nice pictures of the new field turf to go along with the practice…its about time that UH has a nice field to use.
ST thanks.
Good morning Tsai-kos!! T-minus 5 hours till I get on the plane to the PNW. Be back late next Sunday. Hope to be able to read some of the blog. We’ll see.
Happy Birthday Rich2176!!
Oh yeah, ST – take your meds!!
Have fun everyone! Play nice. 😀
Happy Birthday Rich 2176!

92 days 10 hours and 39 minutes to go.
I got up too early.
Next year at this time we’ll all be fretting because it won’t seem like enough days to prep for the first game of the season.

“Hugh Yoshida, Class of 1962, was an All-America football player at Linfield and a member of the 1961 Camellia Bowl team that played for the national championship.” — Lindfield College Hall of Fame
All-America football player… fancy that.. I didn’t know that.
Last I heard, Hugh was on all kinds of committees and a member of various organizations. I’m sure he’s as busy or busier than ever in sports related venues.
LizK just did a hit and run, haha 😆
everyone have a safe day, bblaters
Happy birfday to Rich2176 – hope all is well with you folks!!
Interesting left-hand position for Graves and Shutter after releasing the ball.
Happy Birthday Rich2176
Morning, JJ! No, even if I was 45, I still wouldn’t look nearly as old as you are…..
;-p
ST:
Any chance of getting shcedule for Boise St, Fresno St, Nevada, LaTech and SJSU?
Just curious to see who has the best football schedule.
Mrs. C….touche….lol…and as homey would say, that is a “t”….ROTFLMAO….
Loa…yep, we are getting hit from all sides….dang…I need a green bottle…LOL
MIH….I know a lot of Tsaikos who were in the Camellia Bowl…oh, ummm…that was a football game….I thought it was an eating contest at Camellias….LMAO
A-House #63…that reminds me of another UH QB….
howzit everybody sweltering heat and humid day 😮 hope trades starts back up soon
hellooooo how youuuuuuuuuuuuu cohana, homey can be found just gotta look hard
Happy Birthday Rich2176
jj what you instigating on the pink side now bwhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Those videos are cool!
They did a great job spoofing the boy bands and yet looking like they could be an actual group. Good thing that they are busy with conditioning or Mack would have to ban all players from doing music videos. I mean really, they could fall off the side of a mountain or twist their ankles performing some of those dance moves.
rob25 hellloooooooooooooo how youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
HI LOA!!!
Our office brought ingredients for nachos because it’s avocado season for the guacamole. But I’m still full from yesterday!
jojo hellloooooooooooooo how youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
nuff already got to go and help custodian move boxes
play nice and have a good day
Is there a cc today? I’m starving…
Hey Big C! Someone has been using my name on the pink side? The nerve! BTW, how many wigs you get?
Good morning everyone!
Koakane – What? You get black eye today?
Good to read the players are out there working hard.
A-House – I think you can go to each teams’ site for their schedule. But if ST were to put it in a spreadsheet of some kind, that would be better…..
Hau’oli La Hanau, Rich2176! See you on June 20th.
Koakane, hellloooooooooooooo how youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
My place get good wind action, sometimes too much. [I’m not talking about beans, no worry. :)) ]But down below in the garden it’s HOT! Going to go see how many slugs drowned in their beer last night.
Esme & out…
What, Koakane?!?! You like beef?
curry
Happy birthday Rich2176! Hugs to (((margo))). I still get one piece cake left ovah from your party last year!…I bring ’em to your party dis year! We go make taste test…no tell James.
Happy Birthday Rich!
jojo – How’s the farming going? Killed any cilantro lately?
Vids took a LONG time to load but they are AWESOME!!!
Thanks, ST!
FROM FACEBOOK:
Gay Patek says Jacob had a great morning practice. He recorded the morning’s ONLY interception, and made a beautiful knockdown on a corner route by a slot receiver… He looks to be one of the early camp keepers…so a blogger from the tiger cats said and of course I agree!!!
homey – I thought you were working the farm? Did you kill my plants?
jojo…
Nahhh… that’s all talk, that.
From what I heard, he stay really chicken …
curry, kind of guy.
Take if from me.
The shrimp …
curry, guy.
Oh wait.. maybe das my wife.
jojo – Better just let jeje work the farm. Can’t believe his cucumbers are that big!
hey, there’s a tsaiko and son golfing with those guys in waikele.
Shutter needs new shoes. 😎
homey – That’s just wrong!
Did I hear that you put a hit out on somebody?!?! 😯
I’m not messing with you…it’s all in for Colomaohana. At least she’s not scared and her hubby get fire power to back her up…just in case!
Homey…
that’s because his cucumbers are squash.
Happy, Birhday. Rich2176, are you in Hawaii already?
Hey, this boys can sing, not bad at all.
The QB’s look good. looks like Rausch put on some weight and muscles.
Jojo must have been the lettuce that made you full….
if it were the camellia bowl,
then, homey won yesterday. hands down.
of course, its because he didn’t have to share the grill with dpk this time.
(share right)
Oh. Em. Gee.
What is going on with the boy band action??? Dude…
“Kung Fu” was before my time, but I watched “Kung Fu: The Legend Continues” on a regular basis when I was younger and of course Carradine STOLE the “show” from Uma Thurman in Kill Bill 2.
Favorite scene from the whole movie was his dialogue with Thurman on the porch of the church when he first makes his appearance in the film.
Hard to believe he supposedly hung himself.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO Rich2176!!!
Rob25 – No, for real, jeje has huge japanese cucumbers!
Just got back from jojo’s farm and I admit it’s pretty green!
al – I didn’t eat that much. Kinda lost my appetite.
mih – see comment to Rob25 above.
Rob25 – no hits…
homey….after 4.5 lbs of kalbi, anyone (except dpk) would have lost their appetite.
and who’s growing the daikon? the korean “long” kind or the short chinese kind?
michelle wie tied for 3 after 13, -4
MIH, homey – I saw the cucumbers yesterday, they’re pretty big
Ralph – how can lettuce fill me up? They’re mostly water……oh….. nevermind
It would hurt al, if what you say was true. I just feel bad for all the readers who are being misled into believing that I have a big appetite. Tsk, tsk tsk!
DPK – It’s not the appetite, it’s the grill hogging and meat stealing that goes on when you are there.
Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRADDAH RICH!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
We all know what a Hollywood big shot Rich is, well it’s true: this morning Donald Duck called him to sing Happy Birthday! Have a great day, Rich! 😉
well, the korean man surveys our entourage as we walk in. i have noticed on two occasions that his normal ear to ear grin was missing and in its place was this angry frown. those were the times that you broke the camellia food trip records.
no worry, i backed you up. i told him good thing we don’t come for dinner because the guy really enjoys the sashimi and soft serve.
I can’t help it if you hog the grill and try to steal meat. homey…
hey could this be the tournament for michelle?
jojo….you mean only now you have seen the cucumbers?
i better talk to him.
Happy Birthday Rich
homey….no worry. i can attest to your allegations.
btw, did you say there was another cc today?
Soooo many QBs. I’m glad I’m not the guy who assigns the depth chart at that position. I’m even more glad that I’m not the DC who’s gonna have to prepare his troops for who ever starts there. My guess is Alexander, but if he were get hurt I’m sure the second and third string guys would be just as lethal.
In the Kid’s defense, he learned that from the guys he shared a grill with at the first Camellia Cattle Call…the Zatoichi-fast chopstick master and a spicy BBQ pork griller.
O-line guys-
I hope you guys show up and beat the livin’ crap outta your opponents next fall. We read a lot of stuff here about y’all, but I’m thinkin that the O-line will be one of the biggest surprises next year. I know you’re runnin’. Keep up the good work!
…good thing Al don’t like spicy BBQ pork… 🙂
Sheesh, you guys are having another cc? Sounds like the last one went well despite the grill-hogging and meat-stealing. Hehehe.
Good Morning Tsaikos and Tsaikettes and CC Grazers and Farmers!
Happy Birthday Rich2176!!!
Happy Belated Birthday joje!!!
So I guess all three of the incoming QB recruits will not greyshirt this year & all will probably redshirt this year.
Homey about the same as the bitch slap you got
Jojo moa like katsu curry bwhaaaa
Wow- I would make gimchi for peeps with jojo’s cukes…
Sorry to hear of David Carradine’s passing. God Bless and keep you always, Grasshopper…
Thanks to the “techies” for the retelecast of the Corey & Dana interview!
Stephen, the weather in Manoa is WHAT???!!
.
.
.
It’s tricky.. Tricky (Tricky), Tricky (Tricky)
.
.
.
Ok you can stop your lunch aerobics..
.
.
Jason, don’t even go there
BTW did you hear Rick Taylor on the Rob&Russ show this morning? What a class act guy…He will go far in life and be a major contributor to society 🙂
Advice for Alexander: When in trouble, don’t hold on to the ball too long; throw the ball away. Don’t take a sack and play another down. He’s got to make his reads quicker compared to last year. Other tidbits: UH should play UNLV every year (on the road). It would be just like a home game for Hawaii. USC wants to play UH so that they can beat up on us and use it as a recruiting tool for prospective players from Hawaii. Come on, when was the last time UH even came close to playing USC. It’s always a blow out and things will never change. People are just dreaming when thinking UH can beat, much less play close to the Trojans. In a way, I feel sorry for Greg McMackin.
Finally flying back to the homeland.
Thank you WB for keeping us in touch with what’s been happening back home.
Kerbs:
I will continue to live the “hope” that UH will eventually defeat USC – like the young lad in Angels in the Outfield said, “it could happen”.
michelle wie 2 under 70, t33 currently in round 1 state farm
jee young lee and se ri pak lead at 6 under 66
tiger woods shot 3 under 69 and t8 in round 1 memorial tourney
parker mclachlin shot 9 over 81, t116 currently
luke donald leads at 8 under 64
Krebs…
I hear ya. They used to also say that Hawaii would never have an undefeated season. Never beat Boise. Never win the WAC outright. Never play in a BCS Bowl. Never have a Heisman candidate.
I’ve seen USC go down against teams UH has beaten. So why not dream the dream? After all, it’s just a game, and if you can’t dream big, why bother?
ahouse….10-4 on that one.
and when we do beat them can you just feel the rush!
this stock could be rising……….

Lao tzu once awoke from a dream in which he was a sparrow and he pondered, “Did I dream of sparrow or am I sparrow dreaming?”
And other advice:
Don’t cross on the red.
Don’t run with scissors.
Don’t put peas in your nose …
you must be related to maynard b. krebs.
don’t do anything i wouldn’t do.
My gut tells me that Aaron Kia and Ray Hisatake are going to open some eyes this season. Aaron got a lot of criticism last season but that was last year. This year he is listed 15lbs heavier than last and I suspect that’s more muscle than anything else.
gimchee.. someone say kim-chee? I just remembered, I got wonbok in the fridge that I was supposed to make kimchee out of.. oy!
ST you use to put peas in your nose until your mom told you not to do it?
when is that CD featuring former UH athletes coming out?
why is the blog clock so off?
al:
your #127 – what’s your guess of the 1st Tsaiko to jump onto the field?
your #129 – that’s awsome that NFL Scout writer places Estes as the #1 draftable center!! – hope this makes him work harder and be a more effective leader/team captain.
hmmmmmmmmm, fresh daikon and cucumbers make excellent veggie choice for “kim chee” – wow, broke da mouth – stay watering already!!!
MIH:
your #136 – I hope so, but are they not on the right side of the line?
don’t we need the left side to be strongest to protect the passer since all our QBs are right handed?
Made:
chotto made kudasai – my bad, as they are on the left side!!!
dang, only posted lesterday and I already forgot who’s projected where – dementia here I come!!!
ahouse..
al:
your #127 – what’s your guess of the 1st Tsaiko to jump onto the field?
it got to be kazz!
ahouse….are you dyslexic?
kia and hisatake are penciled in at left tackle and guard. unless you know something we don’t know.
Happy Birthday Rich2176
to me, the most anticipated improvement will be…
what affect will the coaching style and teachings of our new oline coach have and what will be the effects?
kia also needs to retool his physique. this guy has the physical attributes that no one else on the team has.
more importantly…he needs to take a mature and serious approach to his game. this is his last chance if he has any visions of grandeur dancing in his head.
hisatake….he has worked so hard in the two years that he has been out here. he has physically become a major specimen. he obviously has the determination having gone from defense to offense in only two years, which represents 50% of his total football experience.
yah, i am pulling for this guy. one season to prove it or lose it. i am thinking that he will be in somebodies nfl camp next year.
I concur. If at Aloha Stadium, let’s make sure his seats are in orange section for that game… 😐
In 2007 at the Boise State game, I saw a lot of students or people my age with “Rush The Field” shirts.
About 3 minutes left in the game me and my friends started making our way down from our seats to get close to the barriers, then… HPD with the SWAT gear came out to a chorus of “boos” from the 50,000 in attendance.
We started making our way back up to our seats.
Then as Colt took that final knee on BSU’s goal line, I saw the student section pour onto the field with HPD moving to protect the goal lines. Realizing we weren’t going to be clubbed or maced by Honolulu’s “finest” we ran back down, funny thing is the Rainbow Dancers looked worried and all of them tried to stop a lot of us from jumping over the railing. At this point the stadium ushers didn’t bother doing anything, eventually we made it on the field and ran like there was no tomorrow.
It was beautiful. While I was running and laughing it seemed like forever but at the same time I couldn’t register the moment as it seemed like a dream. I lost my friends in the chaos and then started hugging and hi-5’ing total strangers.
When I met up with my friends in the end zone I took to me knees still in awe of the sight. In the background I could see fireworks being set off by those that made their way back the parking lots. By this time the cops and security have seen enough and started directing people through the North end zone tunnel or through the seats again.
I lost my friends again and soon found my way back up next to the marching band. I guess they were busy celebrating too because about 20 minutes had passed since the end of the game and only when I got next to them did they start playing the Alma Mater. I took my hat off and stood next to the saxophones and thousands still in the stadium stood tall and proud to hear the UH Alma Mater playing. It was proud moment and had I not already shed some tears on the field I would of started tearing up again.
It was a moment that needed no photos or video camera footage on my cell phone.
It’s forever in my mind.
SteveM,
No worries, my season seats have always been in the orange (North end zone). 🙂
First thing I wanna do is to find that SC mascot and take his trojan helmet away.
Then wipe my a** with it. 😆
al:
I know something you don’t!!!
A-House…where is dementia?? Is it a nice place to visit? When are you going?? MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA
Kazz you are as lame as chawan cut, you ran pass the rainbow dancers to hug strangers and you stood next to the sax players. You should have hugged the rainbow dancers, no wonder Koa mahu has the hearts for you…
(Jesse)James,
Eh.. no talk like that about A-house. I swear, was not completely his fault. He thought he heard someone say get free trial run on Al’s hummer, not alzheimer. So he was first to volunteered for the trial.
Kazz…I was there to witness the moment…I seem to recall you kissing the field in the endzone..and getting all the rubber from the field turf on your face…I too rushed the field…out maneuvering an usher who was trying to stop people from going down the stairs….futile attempt…MWAHAHAHAHAA
I was high fiving everyone on the field…and while that memory is forever burned in my brain, I have a picture to prove i was there in that historic moment….brings me to tears..
I don’t know if I’m more excited about this season or the next. I figure in 2010, we’ll have mostly McMackin and Company recruits and by 2011, everything should be in place, player and staff personnel as well as facilities, to run the kind of plays they envision.
Ralph…I hugged the Rainbow Dancers for long moments….I told them it was a once in a lifetime moment we needed to share…MWAHAHAHAHAHHAA
re: #122, 124, 126, 127
“….. Come on, when was the last time UH even came close to playing USC …..”
Remember that game at Aloha Stadium, back when ???
USC had their stud running back, All American Charles White.
That was one helluva game.
Somebody go look it up and post references here for all to see.
Kazz and Chawan got to pick up pointers from JJ
YES! James!
I remember we were talking about that but I think you were kind far away from where I was though.
(J)James,
At what point did one of their large Samoan boyfriends come running towards you? 😆
Howzit Everybody,
(Jesse)James
You one funny guy telling the Rainbow Dancers that. Eh did they enjoy the moment as much as you did. LOL
I actually orignally planned to try to “borrow” the large white UH “H” flag they bring out after TDs and run to the middle of the field with it, but I totally forgot about that during the moment.
Ralph,
Get one time and place for make da kine and fo go NAHTZ!
Nov 23, 2007 was all about football.
ralph, kazz,
i didn’t rush the field. i just stood there in the front row and took it all in.
i want to bring my green flag and portable flagpole into the stadium and the arena, but not sure if they’d consider it a weapon and confiscate it.
great to c the warriors working out. hope to gawd that the lineman are bustin tail as well. senor-laden group of OL cannot be making stupid underclassman mistakes again…
1/2 hour til game time @ the staples, and word’s gotten out that Mr. Nelson is going to be playing as tha backup PG, as a laker fan don’t know what to think of that.
Chawan,
I thought the same thing with my flag and pole, but I too assume they wouldn’t let me bring in the pole.
kama…I know they did…MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
ai-eee-soos…#162…I believe you speak of the game where Jeff Duva dropped a the halfback pass when he was all alone and wide open for the TD. I also believe the score at the time was 6 – 3 USC. That would have made it 10 – 6 UH going to the 4th. As it turned out, I believe UH lost 16 – 3…to eventual national champion USC that year.
So, we have had our moments against big name schools.
homey: re #75 I have an extra one, but, at your height, if I let you borrow it, it may be so long, it’ll drag on the ground. Cannot waste precious hair like that!
Rob25: *high five, my sistah* But, no weapons needed. I prefer hand to hand combat; true tita style! C’mon…you know me already! 😉
#174
yes, i was there too.
sniff.
wow i got invited….
An Invitation From MrsElmo88.
Greetings!
I’m inviting you to join me in a group on MomsLikeMe.com called “Affordable Cosmetics.” We can use it to share information and photos, or even coordinate meet-ups. It’s a great resource and I would love for you to join me there.
i am going to pass this on to koamahu.
Colomaohana –
Hard to go hand to hand with homey…got get down on your knees and you know you’re never going to do that!
I have to agree with you…why use weapons when one good slap to the head can cause enough damage and then you can relive the abuse through the tingle in your palm! 🙄
Happy Birthday Rich2176!
espn has a “50 States Tour” for the College Football tv series. today is Oregon. gonna talk about Mouse retiring and contributing the Run & Shoot. Gonna interview Glanville.
I wonder when they’ll highlight Hawaii.
nvm, i just answered my own question.
We’re July 22, but we’re paired with Idaho…. IDAHO! why?
http://sports.espn.go.com/chat/sportsnation/story?page=50StatesTour
chawan_cut:
You know they’re gonna give loads of attention to Boise State. Maybe they’ll throw us a bone, who knows?
Hey ST,
Nice seeing today, even if your were meeting Riley
🙂
Kazz – 152… man, what a blast from the past. I’m all teary just thinking about it!
That and Hawaii Pono’i at the end of the Sugar Bowl have got to be the proudest moments of my Warrior football life.
Chawan,
I know it’s ESPN, but ESPN has many stations. I think we’re on ESPN 8, The Ocho.
Thanks, MIH, for the back up cause the “young guns” like J(J) like make fun of the older, but still excellent old timers – watchout J(J), U goin get bachi!!!
J(J) & al: we were there 2 – shoots, when White returned for the Hula Bowl and tell press “agent recommends against playing in the game” – he was all show – told Mrs, watch, he goin get bachi – if memory serves me correct ( eh, J(J) U reading this?) White did NOT have an illustrious career in the NFL.
#162/174 The score going in to the fourth quarter was 7-5 USC. I believe the final score was 20-12 USC. Awesome game.
In answer to Krebs on blog # 122, (Jesse) James pointed out a time UH lost by 13. a number of years back on the mainland, UH lost by a score of around 53 to 38. Someone with a better memory, please correct me. In that game, UH was giving them all they could handle. On one incomplete UH pass play, the corrupt zebras let the USC guy pick it up as a “live fumble” & gave them 7 points. USC is good but teams like that don’t need to have the refs cheat to help them win. USC would’ve won by less than a TD if I’m not mistaken. USC players I recall waited in the tunnel to shake the hands of Isaak Sopoaga & a number of other players to recognize their performance. I believe that the best new recruits we’ve got will prove to be Coach Shaw & Coach Tormey (along with the new punter & kicker) ; I predict those 4 individuals will make a gigantic difference!
Every member of the team has to believe that they can win the game. They have to be convinced of the possibility or when they have the lead they will squander it in disbelief. And they will never win.
I should add that they should start off thinking that they deserve to win and come out at halftime with the same attitude.
A-House…you see, you cannot have alzheimer’s you remember stuff like that USC game…you are as sharp as a needle….and strong too…I know you can outbench both me and homey…
Disney West vs. Disney East. zzzz… AC what happened?
lgw #8. (zippy’s) yup. Doug Calland, fb HAT for the buckeyes calls it metabolic syndrome: a clustering of symptoms associated with abdominal adiposity (obesity) that demonstrates a high risk for cardiovascular disease and type II diabetes mellitus.
Football linemen often seek a weight gain routine w the goal of becoming larger than their opponents.
Ideally, the increased body weight would be increased muscle mass, but often players increase their body size by accumulating more adipose tissue, specifically in the abdominal region. Some athletes are indifferent to the composition of their weight gain and need to be monitored and placed under professional advice from their trainers and sports nutritionists.
Running is not only important but should be monitored.
Ditto with nutrition.
Lindy’s had Estes as the second best center in the country after the guy from SC.
Hawaii not in the top 33 of receiving units. Two years after being the top offense in the country and all those years in the top three of passing? But that will change. I like this receiving corps.
ahouse…back in the day, i got to meet charlie white. he came to the restaurant that i was at every day to feast on what he called the best mexican food in the west during his hula bowl experience.
i found him to be quite a gentleman and i couldn’t believe how little he was. i am thinking he was probably misquoted that day.
oh great. kobe is starting to go off.
here are my 8 picks for omaha:

Hey, the linemen were out there this afternoon.
Impressive group.

Yup – that’s the game.
Aloha Stadium was rocking !!!
I must say, don’t buy Car Lumbar Cushion. It’s really bad for you.
too hunnert
Oh crap… Pittsburgh has just tied the series… 👿
ST,
Which linemen? O-line or D-Line? or both?
UH has played USC four times:
12/2/78 USC 21-5
9/4/99 USC 62-7
9/13/03 @ USC 61-32
9/3/05 USC 63-17
Regarding weight and football players…
And weight on performance.
from: http://www.palmbeachpost.com/sports/content/sports/epaper/2006/10/29/a1b_nflweight_1029.html
Actually, (from UH website) “The Warriors and Trojans have met a total of six times, including three in the last 10 years – 1999, 2003, and 2005. USC has won all six meetings in the series which began in 1930.”
those music videos are very well made.
Made in Hawaii…
1930…Yikes; the data base I’m using is only from 1945….
ST,
Do you know if Blaze Soares has been going through unsupervised workouts? Not too many have the work ethic of Corey Paredes and Corey may end up being our sole starting strong side linebacker in the fall.
J(J), thanks for the reminder. The thing that I remember most about that game was how our middle linebacker Scott Voeller played. Scotty is a ’74 graduate from Damien High School who was assigned to shadow Charles White on the field. Scotty had a whopping 22 unassisted tackles that night on Charles White, majority of them either at, or behind the line of scrimmage. Scott might have been the best inside linebacker that I haave ever seen suit up for the Rainbows/ Warriors.
One day about ten years ago, he came up to me and asked me, “hey, what do you think about this guy Jeff Ulbrich playing for UH?” I said that I didn’t know, I guess he’s not too bad. Scotty, who was a man of very few words nodded and said, “I think he’s pretty good”. That’s when I knew that Jeff Ulbrich was going to be a real good ballplayer. For Scott to say something like that about someone, you really gotta sqeeze it out of him.
Howzit my nephew Pride.
here’s a good site to check out head to head scores since the start of college football.
http://football.stassen.com/records/opponent.html
Blaze isn’t out on the field in the passing drills, but he’s been working out.
MIH:
You’ll see which linemen at approximately 12:05 a.m. That’s when I’ll post pictures.
or this one
http://www.cfbdatawarehouse.com/
Duffer:
I was there to see you, too. Riley said you were in the foursome behind his group.
the 2nd site is a better one.
Uh oh.. Chawan is getting ideas…. 😯 😆
The key to beating those big BCS teams is simply you’ve got to believe that you can. You have to have an understanding of what football is really about. You can’t show up in September and cross your fingers and hope that you can win. You’ve got to out perform your opponent in the eight months leading up to that date. If you’ve prepared well from January thru August, in the weight room, on the field, in the film room, and on the chalkboard, then you will believe that you have a chance. Then come game time, you believe and you have confidence that you can win. At that point everyone on the team has to understand that they need to give 100% on every play, and they need to “do it right” on every play. If Hawaii were to give 100% and “do it right” on every play, they’d win every game. They would have been undefeated in 2006. They have to have the mind-set of doing it right on every play, all eleven guys, including special teams. It takes discipline. Hopefully that’s something that we have this year.
game 1 is out of hand. gonna either watch forrest gump or lord of the rings return of the king.
Howzit LongTime.
Chawan_Cut:
Thanks for the sites; the first one is the one I used and it only showed the 4 games. The second site showed the score from 1930…
Pride.
#219…As always great post!
Mahalo Pride,
It’s always good to read the perspectives and thoughts of someone that actually strapped it up on the field!
UH 0-6 against USC with 3 more opportunities in the next 4 years! I wonder if beating them would help usher in a new era for Warrior football?
Hi!
Wow, lots of posts, today.
I wonder if USC is facing similar budget cuts like UH…
Oh wait… what I am I talking about??? Nevermind… 🙄
LTUF, yeah, i didn’t realize the 1st site didn’t go that far back, but the 2nd site does.
i don’t know if we each have a destiny or if we’re all just floatin’ accidental-like on a breeze
but i think, maybe its both.
maybe both is happening at the same time….
CHAWAN!!! IT’S JUST A FEATHER FLOATING IN THE WIND!!!
DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW COMPLICATED YOUR CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM IS?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
chawan_cut…
What’s with all this zen-like talk? Where are you? Altitude? Carbon Monoxide levels? Dioxide?
Happy bithday Rich!!!
Whoo-hoo!!!
Chawan_cut,
Years ago, 1995, when I first started chatting online, I likened online chat to an out-of-body experience. You feel like you are floating somewhere out there in the upper corner of the chat room looking down at the conversation taking place. Detached, yet involved. Emotional, yet spiritual.
Kazz,
You are one heckuva Fantastic UH fan! And one tailgate we’ll get Mrs. LTUHF’s lemon pudding mochi to you; even if we don’t make it to the t-gate.
mih,
its a quote from forrest gump.
although i probably ain’t right in the head with this sinus infection. although that doesn’t explain when i’m healthy….
i’ll deliver it for you.
of course, only half of the mochi will make it to the tailgate. especially if i get caught up in, er, traffic.
Wafan,
Howzit it going in the great Northwest; almost pau school, huh…
Howzit Al,
OK, the Mrs will make some for you and the boss too. How are you doing? Must be OK if you went to yesterday’s CC?
Long Time,
I appreciate it!
I said it before and I’ll say it again. It’s a honor to be considered a good fan by those that have been in the stands before me.
Thank you!
Sinus infections..argh… hate those. Sometimes you think even a spike up the nose would be more pleasant.
Please read the Warrior Beat blog.
Al,
Traffic? 😥
kazz,
so how do you explain all this?
are we all feathers floatin’ around in the wind that is UH sports? or is this all destiny?
heh.
First, I win an award by the paper only they decided not to give me a plaque.
Now I find everyone but me in the sports department is invited to the paper-sponsored banquet on Sunday.
I’m habuts.
i remember voeller.
LizK,
Emotions ran high for all of us in 2007… and EARLY 2008.
But getting back to the end of 07 regular season.
Some of my friends won’t admit it, but as soon Gerard Lewis (I think) picked up the mid-air fumble by that Washinton player to end the game, we all kinda broke down in our section and so did some REALLY big braddahs around us too.
It was emotional for the people that have been waiting a lifetime to celebrate a moment like that.
All the crap in the beginning of 2008 and anything that may come after in the form of adversity, will NEVER take away the euphoria of that entire season.
No one can script a better experience.
I just knew if Al was lurking he would volunteer his “delivery” services…
pride.
that is one thing about our nemesis, boise state.
they play so disciplined.
they play like they belong on the field.
they must do the stuff 8 months prior to the first game every day.
they play almost perfect inspite of being undersized all too often.
they must practice perfect.
they must be doing this to be such perennial forces.
just like you said.
WTF is that?
Is the award (sans plaque) supposed to be a way to ease them into telling you you’re not invited to the banquet? 👿
longtimer….i was still hacking away. my apologies to those around me. no wonder ralphie moved away from me.
i had to pass up some grub with the maui boys tonight.
no worry stephen.
you still number one in our book.
yah, we still love you.
all those who agree give a holler.
Al,
Boise State’s ACTUAL head coach is Tony Robbins.
Chris Peterson is a figurehead.
HOLLA
kazz….was it not ryan mouton? cuz i wanted him to take it back to the house as an exclamation point.
NO FATE BUT WHAT WE MAKE
kazz,
good one.
just saw that friday.
Al,
Whitey is here too?
Happy Birthday, RICH!
Warriors, Aloha from LA!!
MANEO !!!
Al,
Ryan Mouton was the CB closest to the Washington receiver in the endzone. When that UDUB player leaped up for the reception Mouton wasn’t close enough to get vertical with him so the UDUB kid actually caught the ball and Mouton dropped his head as if to say “damn…”, BUT on his way down onto the turf the ball fell through his hands and ended up kicking the ball (all in one motion while falling down) to Gerard Lewis (or Myron Newberry).
Sitting in my seat in the orange level in the North endzone, I was watching Mouton all the way. So yeah it wasn’t him.
Speaking of “deliveries”, don’t you admire the FedEx or the UPS guy?
He’s a drug dealer and he don’t even know it.
😆
Is this the award that we celebrated at the Karaoke Call? Let us know so that I can post the excellent award cake pix that J took and Liz can reveal the entire celebration video link…
When you think about it…we got the paper beat on all counts on this one. :evi:
Kazz: Other way around. Lewis was covering, Mouton made the pick.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4gwJ4mSINU
Nah, I don’t care about the award.
But I’m habuts that I didn’t get invited to the sports banquet on Sunday.
My favorite delivery guy is Doug Heffernan.
Does that mean Al has a better memory than me? 😯
His wife is HOT! 😎
Kazz: Means you’re getting old.
Seems kind of petty not to invite certain peole from the sports department.
Perhaps your invitation got lost in the mail?
LTUHF . . .
11 more wake ups to go!
Thank goodness — never thought it would get here. HA!
Nah. I think it’s because I don’t cover high school sports.
Well, unless recruiting is high school sports.
Then again, the paper gets a table at the UH football banquet, and I don’t get invited to that. I have to sit with the other media members.
ST,
Maybe it’s a surprise party for you.. you being the guest of honor, they figured you didn’t need an invitation. Ah.. you not showing up will spoil the party for them and they will all gain pounds eating your share of the party goodies. Serves ’em right. harmph.//
Dang. Lots of typos. Time for bed.
Can you say.. ‘bachi?’
as in..
hibachi …”
Kazz,
No worry,
Beef curry,
It has nothing to do with your memory…
It’s just that al has a better filing system
It the truth…
If you don’t believe me…
Just check his nails.
So…
Umm…
IS THE DANA TAKAHARA-DIAS / COREY NIELSEN WARRIOR BEAT EPISODE REPLAY UP AND RUNNING?
JJ the score was 7-5 going into the 4th quarter. The final score was 21-5.
UH showed they could play defense with the big boys that day. They used a 5 man line with 3 linebackers and only 3 dbs. The They held Charlie White to under 100 yards. Arvenitas, Smith, Voeller, Scotts, Tuinei and Talaesea had a good game. UH had lbs with size that year and a couple of very physical tackles.
Too bad Jeff dropped the pass still it was an exciting game.
Oh yeah UH had one of my favorite fullbacks that year. A really good blocker and could carry 3 or 4 guys on his back. Too bad a knee injury shortened his career.
al: you live on the windward side? if not, we can drop by LTUHF house and pick up the “mochi” – it will be on our way to the tailgate – promise not a single piece will be missing!
Kazz it’s up and running!
RE: #271
ST — OK, that makes sense….even the table at the UH Football Banquet. Everyone knows you would probably not be sitting at the table more than a few minutes anyway as you rove the room. Everyone knows you–you can go anywhere (depending on security level). 🙂 You would be there regardless …as someone’s guest.
Rob25: Yes, I also believe thats how the rest of this battle in the desert should be finished off: MMA style! MamaMia808 would agree…..
Howzit, my braddah Pride!
ST: To echo what Kazz said about the non-invite: WTF????!! But, its okay, I KNOW you enjoyed celebrating with THIS ohana at KK…..We’re more fun…..And I don’t believe you would bus’ out your sexy dance moves with any other group….
UHfan808’s son is graduating tonight.
Anyhoo, I was just whining because we’re trying to lock down a guest for Tuesday’s show.
They suggested Manti Teo, saying they would see him at Sunday’s banquet.
To which I said: “What banquet?”
From where?
My son graduates from Castle High on Saturday.
This past Tuesday’s show, which may or not be up and running, was our most requested. I guess Coach Dana is really popular. Or Quarterback Nielsen is really popular.
graduating from Kalani. Ceremony is at the Blaisdell, as we speak.
Remember the old Highlight magazines?

Doctor:”I’ll be right over. What are you doing in the mean time?”

Second Snake: “Why?”
First Snake: “I just bit my tongue.”

What did the police dog say to the speeder?
Stop in the name of the paw!

Waiter: “You said you wanted alphabet soup.”

The person taking her order asked. “Would you like your pizza cut into six pieces or twelve pieces?”
The woman replied, “Six please. My family could never eat twelve.”

Danny: My mother can. She takes one look at my report card and then tells me exactly what will happen when my father gets home.
Cody: “Did you hear about the two bed bug that fell in love?
Tasha: “No. What happened?”
Cody: “They were married in the spring.”
Happy Birthday Rich2176!
Pisa will make $1 million this season with the Bears. He would have made $3.25 million if the Rams hadn’t released him…Chicago is getting a bargain this season, especially since he’s expected to start. However, next season some team will pay Pisa quite well if he has another fully healthy season.
ST,
Thank you for all the photos of the QBs! I agree with Al that it looks like some of the QB recruits added weight (good weight judging from the photos).
My customer wanted to get every minute possible for us to meet while I was in the Bay Area. I ended up boarding the plane at the San Jose Airport *5* minutes before the scheduled departure time…2 people boarded after me and then they closed the doors. Crazy day with 4 back-to-back meetings all for different companies.
I don’t understand how ST could be the only uninvited member of the sports department because I can’t imagine everyone else covers high school sports except for him. And don’t they remember that he has a blog to mention these things?
Did I hear right? Leonard Peters is playing Rugby now?
Or was that some other Leonard that Corey was talking about?
Yep, Leonard Peters is playing rugby.
arrived in seattle. waiting for rental car shuttle. reserved a midsize. got a corolla. 👿

Warrior Beat replay is up and LIMPING… it’s really choppy and pausing to no video and no sound and then when it starts up again it skips forward not finishing what it was previously on.
This repeats constantly in 15 second intervals.
Impossible to watch.
Colomaohana,
I guess I’ll be running into you next week Monday .. well maybe, we only get access to the 3rd floor and the fitness center.
If Coach Mack’s fine with “Out of Sync”, I’m fine with it. Beats SMU’s player-made videos. 😉

UNLV
In its 50-year history, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), has undergone an amazing transformation, from a dusty outpost on the south edge of town to a thriving urban research institution. Along the way, thanks to its innovative frontier spirit, UNLV has kept pace with one of the country’s fastest-growing and most enterprising cities.
The university’s origins were humble, indeed. In 1951, when the post-war boom had swollen Las Vegas’ metropolitan population to more than 50,000, the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), established an extension program. Twenty-eight students began meeting for classes in the dressing rooms of Las Vegas High School’s auditorium. In 1954, the Nevada Board of Regents founded the Southern Regional Division of the University of Nevada, popularly known as Nevada Southern. Students adopted the Rebel name and mascot to reflect their desire to break free from UNR.
I didn’t know you could bring in one bottle of water per person to the UH games. Anybody know what size bottle that is?
In 1969, with the board of regents’ approval, the university adopted its current name. By the following year, as Las Vegas’ metropolitan population reached 275,000, UNLV enrolled more than 5,500 students. During the 1977-78 academic year, UNLV surpassed UNR in total enrollment.

evening tsai-ko’s 😛 hope everyone is have a fine time after a good dinner. it nice to sit down to a quiet place and catch up on today post in the blog.
my best memory of scott during the USC game was when he stuffed cwhite on a 4 or 3 and 1 with the game at 7-2. the handed off went to white who tried to hurdle over the middle and there was scot jumping into him and throwing him back for a loss. the crowed went wild when it happened. and yes I coached at DMHS when he was there.
yep I was coaching at Damien at that time.
have=having

So I read in Ferd’s article today that JD turned down a reported one million dollar payout from an SEC school and I’d say it’s ingenious because if he accepted the first initial offer it gives the appearance that he doesn’t have any empathy for the boys that have to fly over 5 time zones, risk injuries from playing against bigger and faster players, wear themselves out and suffer psychologically if the team is on the tail end of the score.
Now, if there’s another offer rendered from the SEC school, which JD didn’t name, he can say he gave it some thought and the trade off was of one that was too hard to refuse. He can say even though it was UH playing over there and UH not getting a home date it would have been illogical not to except the money.
And it would have instantly absolved him of not thinking of his players. This way he can say to the players and coaches some sacrifices are needed here benefiting other athletes in the program, whose teams may have been facing the axe. He can say by playing this SEC team your giving the school national exposure, receiving huge money and laying the groundwork for future teams.
In other words by perhaps waiting out for a second offer it would make him out to be savvy and caring.
And whats bold well is that he probably feels that the unnamed SEC team will up the ante anyway.. And I think likewise, too.
Looking at the SEC school and speculating which one is courting UH–if I had to guess I’d say it is Florida wanting to play us again.
For one you’d have to look at Florida’s future out of conference scheduling to understand this. Saying this bluntly Florida’s out of conference scheduling is a farce, with games scheduled against teams like-Furman, Jacksonville State, Florida International, Maimi OH, Appalachian State. It’s scheduling that doesn’t buffer the school from media scrutiny and loss votes from the pollsters and this can weigh heavy if the team is on the bubble of BCS Championship birth–where pollsters, the coaches and computerized voting account for a team’s strength of schedule.
This is where Hawaii might look enticing to Florida to play again–Hawaii’s strength of schedule (67/120 last season and probably dipping into the 30s-40s in the years they might line up with UH– when UH has also on their scedule USC and Colorado and the front runners from the WAC.
Aside from strength of schedule, marque, and passion that the players and fans bring to the game UH is alluring to Florida because it doesn’t jeopardize a blemish on the record, yet it garners them them votes from the pollsters more than playing a Furman or a Jacksonville State. This is understandable, and JD should realize this and UH should solicit top dollar.
Prediction, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if the unnamed team (I think it’s Florida) extended the payout to 1.5 million..
You mean today’s blog didn’t go up at 12:05 am? Yesterday’s was something like 11:59pm, the day before.

My sister visited this morning with the two younger kids. Then I went to a Math Team party in the afternoon. A soon-to-be three-year-old, a nine-month-old, and teenagers; I’d say that qualifies as hustle and bustle. 😀
Yep, Stephen is a grandpa-to-be. He announced it on the show this past Tuesday.
yah he announced it on his warrior beat live show on tuesday. in fact, if memory serves me right the due date is aug 12.

Unfortunately I haven’t gotten around to watching a replay of past Tuesday’s show, and it looks like it’ll be a few days until I get around to do so. Congrats ST!

Congratulations to UHfan808’s son! and Congratulations to UHfan808 for getting through it too!
I think my headache from all the thumping & popping noises from the Wai&Tsai video has finally passed. Sheeessshhh…. they need to handcuff the host on the right to keep from fidgeting and tapping the table or touching the microphone! 🙄
This Tsaiko was very impressed by the guests – probably of the high school guy more than the second guest…. IMHO 😀 😯 😆
Hiya Ronnie!!!
