Unlike most football teams visiting Hawai‘i, San Jose State arrives this morning, a little more than 30 hours before tomorrow’s kickoff.
But don’t question Dick Tomey’s methods.
Tomey has spent a great amount of time studying game preparation. When he was UH’s head coach, his teams tried to remain on Hawai‘i time when they traveled. June Jones adopted that travel strategy when he was UH’s head coach.
He also believes in morning practices.
Tomey’s current travel plans allowed the Spartans to practice four times at home this week. They will have a walk-through session at Aloha Stadium today.

Through the efforts led by Brother Pomai and I Believe, the Rainbow Wahine softball team will receive their WAC championship bracelets Oct. 10. Stretch is compiling a list of those interesting in attending the ceremony, which will be conducting during an intermission of the UH-Louisiana Tech volleyball match. If you’re interested in joining us, just write: “I’m interested.”

Happy birthday to UHfan808, one of The Twins.

And birthday wishes to Abe Markowitz.

Times are hard on the Boulevard. In our news building, they removed one of the two paper-towel dispensers from each bathroom. At the UH athletic complex’s first-floor men’s room, there are two dispensers, but only one is filled. Well, things could be worse. I remember a line in a story about a possible dock strike a few years ago: People might have to make do with less toilet paper.

Wow, OSU kicks USC ***. Hard to believe since OSU got kicked by Stanford. But then again Stanford upset USC last year. In the PAC-10, expect the unexpected.

Good luck warriors, I’ll be watching via stream on mainland.

  20. da princess' classmate September 26, 2008 8:53 am

mornin everyone. 34 hours til kickoff, can’t wait. still can’t get over what i witnessed last nite in corvallis. to c a pete carroll team get outphysicalled upfront on both sides of the LOS. what a job by cav’s boyz. ‘sc still got da mystique and da recruits, but their invincability even in a weakened pac10 is all but gone. is quiz rodgers gonna be the new fashionable RB in football, da 5ft 5in 200lb guy w/ da strength but can’t find him behind da big uglies. can’t say i’m disappointed bout ‘sc these past couple years, if da ncaa ain’t gonna get you for da reggie bush situation than karma will. i do hope ray maulaluga is ok, love da passion that he brings.

great games in da oia and ILH 2nite, great games tomorrow and topped off hopefully 🙂 by a warrior victory

  22. da princess' classmate September 26, 2008 8:59 am

wonder if da beavs break into the top 25 this week and then maybe drop out again after playing da utes next week. actually kinda hope da beavs knock out da utes and then da utes take out byu later so nobody from the MWC goes undefeated. if a non-bcs guy is going to da dance, i’d take boise over those guyz anyday.

  36. 808flowmaster September 26, 2008 9:44 am

Hooray for the Beavs! Now even though we’re 1-2 going into the WAC, you can’t really put UH down too badly for it’s losses. Going back to the start of last season we’ve only lost to the current #3 in Georgia, the current #4 in Florida, and the team that just beat the current #1. And all games were on the road. Hopefully we take care of business tomorrow, and who knows where we can end up by the end of the season. Go Warriors!

  37. FloridaTed September 26, 2008 9:46 am

    Hi, again, Tsaiko Gang,

So, Tomey is trying a commando raid, hmm.. Well, I think the Warriors will be ready in their “black ops” uniforms to fend them off.

  40. Barry Markowitz September 26, 2008 9:55 am

BYU vs. UH 2012 & 2013, done deal.

  41. Kekoa September 26, 2008 10:00 am

    Frank! Salute Braddah!

Hey!…Will you round up the troops and march them to a place where they can watch the game?

We once had a mandatory formation in the ‘motor hole’ where we had one hell-uva Tail gate party with the radio blasting the game over the perimeter speakers! Ya work with wat ya got!

  42. Koa-mahu September 26, 2008 10:04 am

    Celebrate and enjoy yourself tonight!!!

    Esme and swoooooooooooooooosh.

  43. Barry Markowitz September 26, 2008 10:05 am

Insiders would wonder BYU finally agreeing to a home and away deal, after Bronco Mendenhall seemed disinterested about the game during a Markowitz/Hogue radio interview a year ago summer….could it be a gift for a recruit that might go on an LDS mission and BYU would like to give him an opportunity to play before his family and friends as a junior? I have no knowledge to that effect, but believe that is the story line that DPK would create for Rich to market for the TV movie of the week.

  44. Kekoa September 26, 2008 10:07 am

Whoa Barry!…Is that breaking news? Lots of people will be glad to see that happen!

  45. Stephen Tsai September 26, 2008 10:08 am

I think the teams need a battle of the ha‘a/haka.
Did you see this week’s Sports Illustrated. There’s a picture of BYU performing what the magazine calls its “traditional” haka.

  46. Koa-mahu September 26, 2008 10:09 am

oooh… busted forgot to change the name.

everyone enjoy tomorrow at Cabana A followed by the win in Aloha S..

  49. Committed Road Warrior September 26, 2008 10:10 am

Ooooh. A home-and-home with BYU. This should be good, just like old days!

  50. koakane™ September 26, 2008 10:13 am

au’wyrite agree with pride team must be ready to rumble and the 12 man is needed to provide that high intensity. Players get jacked up when the crowd is behind dem cheering their arse off and making thundering noises. What better support can the fan provide than rocking the house.

Jason for this reason along I say let the students go wild. Been on the stadium floor in two prep bowl when we won. around 30,000 plus students, parents and supporter shouting their lungs out. not better feeling than having all this electricity running thru you to get you pumped. yea short of 40,000 but no matter still the same feeling. maybe you should take the ear phones out and enjoy da excitement with your fellow student. get up and shout till your voice is horse.

So tsaikos remember feel the rhythm, feel da rhyme, let go warriors, it’s cobbering time
kden something like it. you know the idea

  51. J-Dog September 26, 2008 10:13 am

Besides BYU, I’d like to see us play SMU, Utah, and UCLA.

  52. koakane™ September 26, 2008 10:14 am

g-nalo who dat guy oh yea no can and no can

  53. g-nalo September 26, 2008 10:14 am

I think the teams need a battle of the ha‘a/haka.
Did you see this week’s Sports Illustrated. There’s a picture of BYU performing what the magazine calls its “traditional” haka.

wish i could see Isaac Sopoaga’s version…………with his 49er jersey on. haaaa

Hawaii definitely has the most polynesian players and its only fitting they look best.

  54. J-Dog September 26, 2008 10:14 am

Besides filling another home game opening, UH pretty much got itself a soldout game. Good job JD.

  55. BowsForever September 26, 2008 10:15 am

Score 72 on BYU and punt the ball into the stands!

  56. Nalani September 26, 2008 10:17 am

I remember the old UH/BYU games. Didn’t sit down the entire time. They were epic – especially the ones we won! I hope this brings the crowds and the students back to the games.

So I’ve decided by popular poll to keep my real name…but wanted to tell D1 that “Still Luvz Local Boys” was my favorite suggestion being appropriate on so many levels, so a new Na Leo “E Hula Mai Kakou” CD will be in my bag for you at the tailgate, autographed by all 3 girls no less….I hope you comin!

And WarriorMojo thanks for the pic. Kaha’i is trying to shadow Estes at every practice which is why he was right on his shoulder when you snapped that. Very cool.

  57. Stretch September 26, 2008 10:18 am

    Barry #43 – I agree with that assessment 1000000%

  58. g-nalo September 26, 2008 10:19 am

g-nalo who dat guy oh yea no can and no can

hey now……..no make la dat else i’ll just have to “can”…….eventually. 🙂

  59. g-nalo September 26, 2008 10:23 am

yep, good that JD and staff are taking care of schedules early…….

nowadays i think UNLV in Vegas way more popular than BYU?

  60. Barry Markowitz September 26, 2008 10:26 am

Stretch, remember SC plays UH here in 2010. I think somebody in Utah decided to equalize the selling points. btw, my personal view is that the young man will succeed Stanley Havili at USC at fullback, not LB like everyone predicts.

  61. koakane™ September 26, 2008 10:27 am

big shout out to JD for a much interesting, intensive and invigorating schedule. keeps you wanting to invest in season ticket till 012 and 013. outstanding JD

as artie the german from laught in would say peeking out of the bush……..very interesting

pride on your time out call me

  62. pomai September 26, 2008 10:29 am

BowForever better yet one of the players score den run ovah to da sideline give da ball to coach stuz en he kicks it in da stands. LOL

  63. Stretch September 26, 2008 10:29 am

So I guess that UCLA, Notre Dame and Stanford will be calling too??

  64. Barry Markowitz September 26, 2008 10:32 am

Stretch, no substance, but personal feeling, those others schools are not the best fit….anotherwords, I believe no chance at all.

  65. duffer September 26, 2008 10:33 am

So I’ve decided by popular poll to keep my real name…but wanted to tell D1 that “Still Luvz Local Boys” was my favorite suggestion being appropriate on so many levels, so a new Na Leo “E Hula Mai Kakou” CD will be in my bag for you at the tailgate, autographed by all 3 girls no less….I hope you comin!

e kala mai good morning again everyone playing nicely I hope

welcome again to nalani of naleo pili mehana (as holo’ua named them). you have the nahe nahe kaleo or as we wassai bruddah’s say sooooooooo ono da sound. glad you can make the tgate we luv to meet new bloggers especially da one’s with son’s on da team. btw d1 going miss so he said to give koakane the disk bwhaaaaaaa 😉 j/k

once again a reminder about the planning for away UH games and the coordinating of places to enjoy the tgates, viewing the games and still be one beeeeg happy family.

October 4 Saturday @ 4pm UH vs Fresno State. Murphy’s is the site. There will be seating for 35. Fuud will be ala carte from the menu. If you planning to come please sign up. There might be a buffet but not definite yet. Murphy can accommodate an overflow but probably will be seating away from the main group. So let me know ASAP.

November 1 Saturday @ 9am UH vs Utah State. We are working it out and more info will be forth coming.

November 8 Saturday @ 11 UH vs New Mexico State. This will be at Bay View Golf Course restaurant. Currently working with the manager on a buffet deal but only a ala carte menu so far. There will be pictures of the place and a menu to be posted latter.

Just wanted to spread the action to various parts of Oahu so it will be fair to everyone. Mahalo for helping goes out to jerry, kekoa, james, Rob25, midori and steveM for their input. Much more updated info will be coming out as these game get closer.

The Boise State game is on October 17 which is on a friday at 2 in the afternoon. We felt it would be to hard to reserve a place because not sure who could get there before the game starts. If by chance you have a place in mind put it the blog and then everyone can choose where to go, view the game and enjoy the 5 “F’s”.

    Mahalo and Aloha for now

  70. koakane™ September 26, 2008 10:43 am

  72. tommui September 26, 2008 10:46 am

For Tsaikos(r) who shall remain nameless. Some investment advice.

If you had purchased $1,000.00 of Delta Air Lines stock one year ago,
    You would have $49.00 left.

With Enron, you would have had $16.50 left of the original $1,000.00.
With WorldCom, you would have had less than $5.00 left.

But, if you had purchased $1,000.00 worth of beer one year ago, drank all of the beer, then turned in the cans for the aluminum recycling REFUND, you would have $214.00 cash.

Based on the above, the best current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle. It’s called the 401-Keg

A recent study found the average American walks about 900 miles a year.

Another study found Americans drink, on the average, 22 gallons of alcohol a year.

That means, on average, Americans get about 41 miles to the gallon.
Makes You Proud To Be An American! ♠

  73. Pride. September 26, 2008 10:46 am

Happy Birthday to UH808fan and to Abe. Remember Abe, perserverance is so important at the level that you are playing at. Good luck to in your college career.

I stopped drinking beer a long time ago. At the stadium it comes in a cup. Some is spilt on the floor. The rest goes into the john when UH is scoring a touchdown. Bad investment.

  89. Kazz September 26, 2008 11:21 am

    Hmmm…

The 2009 schedule looks to be the most fitting for a possible “BCS-busting” season.

However we will loose 33 players to graduation after this season.

  90. Kekoa September 26, 2008 11:21 am

Where’s Homey? Who’s day was it to watch him?…Hmmm..maybe he’s down at the N0-Aloha stadium watching the Spartacus walk thru.

    Homes!…post up bull.

  91. Kazz September 26, 2008 11:23 am

    Chawan,

Maybe we can squeeze out some more money from the NFL to help fund new field turf at Aloha Stadium before they take the Pro Bowl away from us.

I’d like to think of it as a nice “Thank You” gift from them.

would be great to see more BCS conference teams on Warrior schedule the likes of Big 10, ACC, SEC, Big East so they know what it’s like to travel, play a good team, and ruin their chances of going to a BCS championship game – YEAH.

  103. Kekoa September 26, 2008 11:53 am

Kazz ~ Good suggestion. The stadium should be left with several parting gifts from the NFL. The field, one be a nice token of their appreciation. The other would be to have 2 Pre-season exhibition games. One between the 49er’s and the ‘Skins, and other featuring Oakland Vs St. Louis HS. (Smile Rob25!)…

However, the best would be to announce their continuing alliance with the State of Hawaii as their Host for future Pro Bowl games.

“It’s a very nice letter from the office of Congresswoman Mazie Hirono, noting the blog post on her meeting with Colt Brennan. It was a really nice gesture, and certainly better than the last time I received a note from a congressperson (i.e., never). Similar letters went to P.R. whiz Zack Bolno, and P.R. intern Matt Taylor (who mostly facilitated the whole thing). Really, that would’ve been enough — more than enough.

But the congresswoman’s office also sent over the Mauna Loa Island Classics Assortment — five different kinds of macadamia nuts — for us all to share. I’ve posted about pineapples that Brennan received, but the flow of gifts from the islands is more or less constant: all things coconut, pineapple, or macadamia nut related.
So, excited to join such rarefied company, I went and asked Colt about the gift…”

Anyone know if Mr. Donavon is considering changing to “Warriors” for all men’s sports teams, and perhaps, “Warrior Wahines”, or “Lady Warriors”….for all wahine sports teams? I can understand the value in tradition, but if the “Warrior” tradition has started for our football program, then consistency will never be reached, confusion will always prevail when national sportswriters keep flubbing it up.

  121. Kekoa September 26, 2008 12:21 pm

Hey Duffer! ~ Would you ask Senator Tsutsui to consider my preferred ‘bail-out’ proposal:

~ Instead of giving 85 Billion to AIG or any of the other Fat Cat Losers, Divide it up and give it to every tax payer 18 years or older as their next Tax rebate check. I think it would work out before taxes to something like $428,000 each.

~ Even after you pay your tax on that at say 20%, that leaves you with $342,400! for singles. Joint filers would receive $684,800, after taxes.

~ So what would most folks do with that kinda loose change? Well, for straters, how about:

1- Pay down or pay off a Mortgage.

2- Buy a new Hybrid, and go green.

    3- Install Solar systems.

4- Invest in Stocks that will surely rise from increased sales.

5- Travel with the Warrior team.

6- Pay off all of your credit card bills?…(Nah! you just going build ’em again!).

7- Even if you did none of the above and splurged on ‘stuff’ – you’ve stimulated the economy. Isn’t that why they call it an Economic Stimulus Package?

So if we give our money to AIG, who does that help? We just pay for them to have all the fun…not fair!

your #90 post about losing 33 players to graduation – thta’s why I don’t understand the logic by the coaches not to let more of the 2nd and 3rd level players get some “game time”

something that always bothered me with JJ and maybe a contributing factor for the struggling offense this year.

A-House, I think it very well is the biggest factor in our anemic offense thus far.

Linkner, Bain, Washington, Salas, and Lane can all play and they have been around for a decent amount of time, but as it was said before GAME reps are needed in order for the offense to be successful.

Now Colt, Davone, Rivers, and RGM were all just cut from a different cloth and while they too needed the time to develop, they were able to do so much faster and more effective than others in the past.

It’s a tricky situation I guess, unless you rotate 6 or 8 receivers in the Run and Shoot, but then again would one QB be able to get in tune with 6-8 guys or be better off sticking with the same 4 guys and really develop that relationship.

I remember when J-Riv was held out of a game last season due to injury and Malcolm Lane took over his spot and it was shakey even with CJ, Bess, and RGM still playing and Colt still throwing the ball. I think that is a fine example of a little disruption in the flow of things.

Looking to 2009, it’s going to be another QB drama I think. Funaki and Alexander will both be seniors and Rausch will be a junior.

Now, do you stick with experience (Funaki) or do you look to develop something for 2010 as well by sticking with Rausch, barring injury?

But we do have youth in Steele Jantz, Shane Austin, and Corey Neilsen in the ranks waiting. If anything, I would start looking towards these guys and start developing them and giving him a chance to compete next season.

  130. Kazz September 26, 2008 12:40 pm

    a house

i think right now the staff is more concerned about winning games. that is the ultimate goal and it should be, to win this year.

giving game time to the bench is critical to the future and morale of the team. however, at 1-2, the future is now. we need to win this game first and foremost. as history dictates, the fair weathered fans of hawaii will quickly jump off the bandwagon (except the tsaiko nation) should we not have a successful outcome tomw.

another factor for the lack of depth development at this point is, well two actually, one, numerous injuries have forced us to dig into the bench already and two, the perceived depth may not be as good as we thought it would be therefore, some guys are playing 90-95 % of the time.

that is just my opinion and observations.

    ah…..what do i know?

  143. Kekoa September 26, 2008 12:57 pm

Frank ~ When the Raiders 1st moved back to the bay area, they held their camp in Napa, CA. We lived an hour drive from their practice field. We planned to go watch as we always did our 49’ers camp up in Rocklin. Al Davis closed practice to the public. Made it known thru all the media outlets.

Great way to allow the Oakland fans a chance to welcome them back huh? Many other things he’s done have not made sense to the fans up there, yet the faithful follow. Go figure.

if what you read is true…..then solly should be fast enough to play safety.

when he was recruited, solomon allegedly ran a 4.56 forty. if such is true, then he would have “safety forty times”. there had been some speculation about him moving in the backfield should he make a pro team. his dream will rest and fall with his post season forty time.

Since I have some spare time on my hands and not winning the Na Leo CD, I visited Vacations Hawaii website for some flight information and prices. Although they haven’t formalized a travel itinerary for the UH/UNLV game, here’s some information anyway

They have a Wednesday departure at 1:00 PM, arriving in Las Vegas at 9:30 PM. The return flight is on Monday, departing at 8:00 AM and arriving in Honolulu at 11:15 AM.

The other option is a Thursday departure from Honolulu at 1:00 PM, arriving in Las Vegas at 9:30 PM. The return flight is on Tuesday, departing at 8:00 AM and arriving at 11:15 AM.

The price is around $790 for air/room/food coupon and transfer to the hotel, either Main Street, The Cal or Fremont.

There seems to be no Friday departures from Honolulu or Sunday departures fom Las Vegas.

There maybe changes to the schedule when they formalize the UN/UNLV game, but please start making plans, if you haven’t done so.

Take a hop over to SteveM’s site and take the survey if you haven’t done so already.

what more is there to look for?? cold beer is all that matters!!

  154. brew808 September 26, 2008 1:13 pm

Kekoa – Okay – if you distribute the $85b to 100M taxpayers… that’s still $850 each – just enough to cover the Vacations Hawaii costs for travel to the UNLV game next Sept. And there would even be some extra for a few trips to In & Out and where ever Mr. LV takes us! 😀 😯 😆

  155. brew808 September 26, 2008 1:17 pm

Stretch – Oh – there were “strings” attached to the shot glass? I thought I got the “lame” waiver! 😀 I guess I’m going to have to ask for a pitch-hitter…. How about homey, koakane, or my choice – Rob25???

Or, we could wait for that 1+ hour hand you roll for us at the Rio…. 😀 😯 😆

  156. Kazz September 26, 2008 1:18 pm

Future NFL-ers on this current roster… I think of David Veikune as a great LINEBACKER in the pros.

Braddah can rush, has improved sideline-sideline movement, and is a nasty mother. <<<-my Coach Mack impression. 😉

  157. A-House September 26, 2008 1:24 pm

    Kazz:

I agree with your last para about looking to develop the “young QBs” now rather than later – Rolo will just have to set a plan and stick to it – of course, injuries will cause the plana to change, but if the plan is comprehensive, it should include all the possible scenarios – trust me, that’s what I had to do as the Assistant G3, Operations – it can be done.

    al:

I agree that winning now is critical, but to sub WRs on long plays is only going to help the 2nd or 3rd level palyers to step up and “feel” playing with the 1st team – who knows, the Coaches may just find a “gem” that’s been sitting there waiting for the chance.

I like Royce Pollard – believe he will better that J Rivers as a red shirt Sophmore.

I also like Steele – he has got game – as a matter of fact, I think he will push Funaki, Alexander and Rauch next year – Corey will also make the mix very interesting, but I hope they red shirt him so he can learn the “system”. Also hoping that manley will accept UH’s offer next year.

  158. Just Saying September 26, 2008 1:32 pm

ah c’mon. Rivers was starting as a TRUE freshman.

  159. A-House September 26, 2008 1:32 pm

    Duffer:

Many thanks for your research with Vacations Hawaii.

We will probably take the Wednesday departure as this will allow us maximum time with MasaBoy who has Wednesday, Thursday, and Fridays off ( at least for now ) and he will ask for a “floating holiday” for 9/19 so he can join us for the game.

Also, staying at the Fremont will allow us to maximize our time with the Tsaikos while there – I can hear the noise from the crap tables and Mega Bucks saying, “come and get me, come and get me” – whoa, that’s the line from City Slickers!!

  165. Jason September 26, 2008 1:44 pm

I think Solly projects to outside linebacker in the NFL. I just don’t see him as a safety. I’m not worried about his lack of size. But that 40 time will be important, no matter what position he’s going to play.

BYU, I just love that rivalry. I wish I had one of those old “Beat BYU” towels with the rainbow on it. That’s cool.

koakane: I think we’re on different wavelengths here. I’m not saying don’t be rowdy — if you’ve seen me at the games, you’d know I’m standing the whole time, yelling like crazy, stuff like that. I mean, sometimes I get fired up to the point where I start having an anxiety attack, because of the adrenaline kick. But when the offense is in the huddle and lining up for the play, fans need to simmer down. I’ve got no problem with people cheering after a big first down or anything like that, but if that cheering lingers into the next place, all that does is hinder the offense.

I’ve seen it before — UH is pulling off a long drive towards the side of the field that we are on. Once we get inside the 20, the fans start going nuts. As the players break the huddle, Colt and the offensive linemen would motion to the fans to quiet down, cause it was getting too loud and they were having trouble communicating.

It’s a real problem with the students, cause we all end up doing the same thing. All it takes is one person to yell, “Defense!” and soon, everyone is doing it. Similarly, all it takes is one person to start hitting their Thunderstix while UH is lining up on offense, and soon hundreds are doing it. Not everyone, cause many do know not to make noise at that time, but there are enough where it gets pretty noticeable.

In regards to the UH-LV Game Plan…should I be booking my air travel packet right now with HA?…Then wait for the Boyd game tic/casino/t-gate/and ground trans packet for later?

Are you also talking to former UH Coach Riley Wallace? – or is he no longer with Boyd group as their UH PR man? I’ll bet if would plan a slot tournament for the Tsaiko group only, that would be very good PR for the Casino. If he opened up for all the Hawaii people…I think the Casino would be so overwhelmed, they’d never be able to handle the crowd!

    Kekoa,

Vacations Hawaii is trying to secure seats with Hawaiian, United and Delta in conjunction with their ground packages. I’m not sure if Hawaiian is accepting air reservations that far in advance yet. The package with Hawaiian through Vacations Hawaii probably will be a little higher than with the package with Omni.

Coach still works for Boyd and will be in town in November.

A slot tournament is in the works!

As soons as al and I get the word, the Tsai-kos will too!

I am just curious. Was anyone else disappointed in the pregame band performance, or lack of, in the last home game? I felt every thing was flat from the time the team came on the field with the without player intro like last year. Even Villi looked as if hewas lost. I remember before JJ the band was in the stadium seats playing and entertaining the fans during the warm ups. I realize he had a lot to do with the bands low profile after he arrived and throughout his tenure. But if all they are going to is what they last time please bring back the speakers. At least the loud thunder and sounds maybe intimidated the other team somewhat. I hope the band picks it up and there is more electricity ijn the air during tomorrows pregame.

curveball – Congrats on winning the ticket to tomorrow’s Warrior victory! We will await reports on how it was to sit next to Liz all game long! I think the key is to make sure her iPhone battery is fully charged…(IMHO). 😀 😯 😆

  362. brew808 September 26, 2008 7:39 pm

That 2011 schedule looks pretty tough. Good thing HF had the foresight to schedule that additional game w/ Charleston Southern between the @UDub and @UNLV games…… NOT!!! Punk! 😈 😆 😈

  363. d1島: September 26, 2008 7:40 pm

    Wassup brew.
Decided to lay low and avoid spreading disease tonight; still feeling a little bit effects of da bug.

Wow – this is tough…. talking to myself…..

Stretch – I’m interested in attending the 10/10 Wahine v-ball game and watching the UH Wahine – 2007 WAC Softball Champs get their well-deserved championship rings! Unfortunately, I’ll be somewhere else waiting for your 1 hr roll….. 😀 😯 😆

  366. brew808 September 26, 2008 7:46 pm

Howzit d1島! Really glad to see someone else on the Warrior Beat. BTW – I agree….. you don’t look very good! 😀 😯 😆

in a few weeks we will have prices and dates regarding the unlv 09 game. please note: that through duffer’s direct connect with the vp’s of boyd gaming group (you met some at the tailgate) we will have a great offer as well as great sideline seats.

several packages will be available. some exclusive to this group.

please be patient. look at your calendars. the game is september 19,2009. the word is that one flies out on wednesday and another on thursday. both four nights w/meal package.

    stay tuned.

  380. brew808 September 26, 2008 8:07 pm

I may have asked this before…. but if Warriors are the nickname/mascot for Kamehameha…… what are the wahine teams called….. Warrior-ettes ??? Oh oh…. I can feel the slaps already….. 😀 😯 😆

  381. brew808 September 26, 2008 8:09 pm

Howzit al! Hey d1島 – I got the 1420 feed and game on. How come they say the score is 6-0? Who is wrong?!? 😯 🙄 😀

  382. d1島: September 26, 2008 8:10 pm

    Thanks al.

So you wanna give us the rundown on dinnah tonite?

  383. Pauoa Boy September 26, 2008 8:11 pm

    Howzit Gang,

    Happy Birthday UHfan808…

    Same to you bruddah Abe…

  385. d1島: September 26, 2008 8:14 pm

    Wassup Pauoa Boy!

Wat? No mo’ HS football across da street?

    Hmmm…

    Brew,
So maybe Pete wen ask Kale, “Can he run the ball, too?”

  386. brew808 September 26, 2008 8:15 pm

al (& duffer) – I think it might be useful to see if some kind of package can be set up for those wanting to attend the game in Pullman the week before, then fly down to LV, party during the week, attend the UNLV game, party after two road wins, then fly home to HNL. Of course that’s just me, and I’m “outside the norm”. 😀 😯 🙄

I told SteveM I didn’t want to respond to his poll (already on Phase-II) because of various uncertainties. I think my friends/family would be interested…. but going w/ Boyd depends on what is offered and what else is available! 😀 😯 😆

  387. d1島: September 26, 2008 8:15 pm

    Yeh, right, Ladd.

I’m sure Pete made a note before he left…”Wave to Ladd and Del in da booth.”

  388. d1島: September 26, 2008 8:17 pm

    Pauoa Boy,

Oh nevah mind, forgot the time difference.

  389. brew808 September 26, 2008 8:18 pm

IMHO – Pete Carroll should have focused on his present team beating the Beavers…. than trying to sell Manti on the hype and historic glory called USC…. IMHO 😈 😯 🙄

  390. d1島: September 26, 2008 8:19 pm

Four night package would be real good for me. Probably gotta be back at work on Monday anyway. Usually after that much time in Vegas I gotta go make summoa $ anyway!

  391. brew808 September 26, 2008 8:20 pm

    Heheee…. I think d1島 was about to make a smart-arse remark to P-Boy but one of the components was missing…. 😀 😈 😆

  392. d1島: September 26, 2008 8:22 pm

    brew,
Not so sure Boyd would be so interested in making arrangements for peeps to stay that far away from their casinos (WA, that is)

  393. brew808 September 26, 2008 8:22 pm

Wait – so you guys wouldn’t be interested in visiting Pullman/Spokane in mid-Sept? Maybe the leaves might be changing. And we could party at either Shari’s or Elmers! 😀 😯 😆

  394. d1島: September 26, 2008 8:25 pm

    brew,
dat was probably the “smart” part 😉

Puns score (and claim the extra point from KS)

Leilahua scores, more hugging. The coach looks misty-eyed. 14-0.

How can Punahou lose? Dey get da greatest college prospect in HI history and one former NFL RB.

  395. brew808 September 26, 2008 8:26 pm

So d1島 – I’ll just look for the guy with the triple brown paper bags and know that it’s you? 😀 😯 😆

BTW – what is the derivation for the nickname, “Buff & Blue”? 😯 😕 😀

Oh – now the score is 7-6…. who was wrong? 😯 😈 😀

  396. d1島: September 26, 2008 8:28 pm

Correction: dat was one pineapple bug in his eye; crying will be reseved for the end of the game.

    Ooooo…Shari’s! Pot roast…skillet breakfast….pies….Eastern Washington??? Hmmmm….

    Nah, nevah mind.

    heheheh

  397. Pauoa Boy September 26, 2008 8:28 pm

Just got back from a local high school football game here in CA. Watched Vista Murrieta High versus Los Osos High, since I live across the street and it was VMHS homecoming. Wanted to scope out the talent and I saw one guy that stood out to me that UH should take a look at since we recruit in CA. Not sure if we’d have a chance as I was told by one of the coaches that he has like 40 schollies or so and is being highly soughted by all PAC-10 schools. His dad played at ASU as in ASU’s hall of fame… Regardless this kid is a stud and blew me away… I garrans you will hear this kids name soon…reminded me of Barry Sanders the way this kid plays, Excellent vision, speed, agility, power, receiving and blocking skills!

    Vista Murrieta High School
    Senior Running Back/Cornerback
    # 5 Bradley Randle
    5’9″ 195lbs.

  399. d1島: September 26, 2008 8:31 pm

Sand and surf is what I heard.

Puh-leeeeze, Ladd! Pete Carroll wasn’t waving at you.

    Waianae scores, 7-14.

  400. d1島: September 26, 2008 8:34 pm

…or could be the eye and hair color of most of da student body! 😆

  401. brew808 September 26, 2008 8:36 pm

Nah d1島 – Pete Carroll wasn’t waving, he was trying to shoo away visions of ‘quizz Rodgers that still haunts him…

Oh, my apologies too regarding the 3 shopping bags…. it’s just as likely that those are shopping bags you’re carrying for Mrs. d1 from Niemann, Ann Taylor, and dior…. 😀 😈 😆

  402. Pauoa Boy September 26, 2008 8:36 pm

Aunty Ronnie or Garret or any of the LoCal crew…

I was looking to see if the UH – SJSU game was going be televised at least on PPV but I know see it. You guys get scoops on if going be shown in our area or no?

  403. d1島: September 26, 2008 8:36 pm

  408. d1島: September 26, 2008 8:42 pm

    al?

    Wea you went?
    Must be eating now.

  409. brew808 September 26, 2008 8:42 pm

P-Boy – It’s still questionable if the game will be carried on ESPN GamePlan. Many of us have our fingers, toes, and eyes crossed. I believe Ronnie is counting on ESPN360 (will be on if on GamePlan). Garret might have the game on via his SlingBox. The rest of the crew is dependent on ESPN GamePlan, or Oceanic PPV. 🙁 😯 😕

  410. Pauoa Boy September 26, 2008 8:45 pm

brew808 – yups frikk I was looking for it on PPV, cause das how I usually catch the games but never have um…dayumit! Hmmm…

  411. brew808 September 26, 2008 8:47 pm

Sorry – I think I scared al away. He probably thought I’d start attacking him just like I’m doing to poor ol’ d1島. 😀

Hey – earlier, I was just kidding about missing out on the BIG party for UHFan808, but maybe that was for real? Bowling…. P-bean soup…. chocolate cake….? 😀 😯 😆

  412. brew808 September 26, 2008 8:50 pm

d1島 – Right now…. I’m hungry for cinnamon bread French toast, with a side of pork chops! Mmmmmm…. You know, Sleez had pork chops for breakfast at Elmer’s….. Mmmmmmm….. Almost like loco moco without the ground beef! 😀 😯 😆

  413. d1島: September 26, 2008 8:53 pm

    brew,

I’ve heard of others doing that.
So is Elmer’s pretty much like Shari’s?

  414. brew808 September 26, 2008 8:57 pm

    me…. neva been to Shari’s.
    you… neva been to Elmer’s.

How about we just head to the next buffet in LV instead!?! 😀 😯 😆

d1島 – LoL, I dunno too many papolo kids dat like Hawaiian Kine Grinds. I know they love the local kine chicks but das different story. Anyway, that kid is frikkin mean. Saw him break some mean runs tonight juking, outrunning and overpowering guys. Had one play he caught one screen pass, slip the tackle from the CB, run over the LB, and then outrun the whole secondary at least 20 yds ahead of them. I telling you, this the kind guys we need to recruit…Speed!

  416. d1島: September 26, 2008 9:00 pm

    brew,

    Pinette is funny.

  417. Pauoa Boy September 26, 2008 9:03 pm

Anyway, I gotta hit the rack and get up early for my boys football game in the morning…

Uncle Jim Donovan, thank you very much for putting the BYU kitty cats back on our schedule. As much as I hate them with a passion, I love that they are willing to play us and I hope this continues. UH-BYU rivalry games are the bestest ever!

  418. d1島: September 26, 2008 9:05 pm

    Pauoa Boy,

Hope that kid can lif da right kine weights…da rectangular kine….with pages.

  419. d1島: September 26, 2008 9:09 pm

Waianae opens with on-side kick. Scores. Misses PAT. 13-14.

…and tries on-side again! Mules recover.

  420. d1島: September 26, 2008 9:11 pm

    Leilehua scores on first play.

    21-13.
    More hugging….

  424. SteveM September 26, 2008 9:22 pm

Arrright– I’ll stick my neck out one more time…consider duffer post #149 that says to take the survey and Al’s post…

    al:
    September 26th, 2008 at 8:06 pm
in a few weeks we will have prices and dates regarding the unlv 09 game. please note: that through duffer’s direct connect with the vp’s of boyd gaming group (you met some at the tailgate) we will have a great offer as well as great sideline seats.

several packages will be available. some exclusive to this group.

please be patient. look at your calendars. the game is september 19,2009. the word is that one flies out on wednesday and another on thursday. both four nights w/meal package.

Now, I am not privy to any special Boyd secrets…but as former travel agent, put “2 and 2” together and this is what I see (remember, what I see and reality may not be the same) 🙁 …

duffer is trying to negotiate some special things for the Tsai-kos.
“How many people/rooms/seats are we talking about?”, he is asked.
“Oh–at least 60, maybe 80…”, replies duffer, “that’s the estimate I have as of today”

Those numbers seems underwhelming when you consider the guest capacities of the Caifornia, Main Street, and Fremont.

So maybe the numbers will not be huge in the overall scheme, but the larger the number, the more credible. As I noted before, if you will sincerely consider the various Boyd packages once the final prices and ticket possibilities are known, then please indicate your option on the survey if you think or hope you will attend the 9/19/2009 game.

On the other side of the coin, Brew808’s comment…

…I told SteveM I didn’t want to respond to his poll (already on Phase-II) because of various uncertainties. I think my friends/family would be interested…. but going w/ Boyd depends on what is offered and what else is available!

is indicative of what the many mainland Tsai-kos are currently considering…(est. pax count = 150) Many… Hawaii residents included… have alternate logistical arrangements already. No problem.. Take the survey too.

    * * * Click Here to take the survey * * *
    – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

I will also reiterate that a Saturday tailgate is unlikely to get everyone together… you have: Boyd tailgate, travel agency tailgates, UHAA tailgate, SportsHawaii tailgate, private tailgates, etc. etc.

I personally hope for a FRIDAY night Cattle Call to gather all the Tsai-kos from Hawaii and the mainland…around 300 people?

  425. Pauoa Boy September 26, 2008 9:25 pm

d1島 – I talked to one of the assistant coaches after the game for a few about the kid. The Coach saw my Hawaii Football Polo Shirt and asked if I was a scout before he released the info which I thought was funny. Anyway, he said the kid has a 3.3 GPA already passed the SAT’s and has about 40 or so scholarhip offers so far. All of the PAC-10 schools are looking at him. His dad played at ASU and is in there hall of fame, and has been said to be leaning towards the Sun Devils although UCLA has been in hot pursuit lately. He said there are a couple D1 prospects on the team…2 DB’s, 1 LB, that kid and even his backup RB. I also noticed there kicker is pretty dayum good too. He was booming kickoffs into the endzone consistently and hit 3 FG’s one was a 54 yard FG. There previous K is at New Mexico. Anyway, get planny talent over here. The other team Los Osos had a pretty good RB too #1 Arby Fields…I think was the name. Anyway, hope Tony Tuioti is taking a look at the SoCal area cause get choke prospects over here…

  426. Jack Flash September 26, 2008 9:51 pm

Jim Donavan- MAHALO for bringing back the UH vs BYU rivalry! This is something that has been passed down to me from generations before, and now can get passed down to my kids. OK- time for moemoe. GAME DAY TOMORROW! GO WARRIORS!!!

  427. Stephen Tsai September 26, 2008 9:54 pm

    Quite the night at darts.
Calvin from Kona pretended to be a bouncer, and a woman actually tried to give him $5. He handed it back. But it was pretty funny.

  428. Kelli September 26, 2008 10:18 pm

koakane™: I think we’ll try to drop by at some point this season. I know I definitely want to come and see how it’s done by the Tsai-kos.

brew808: Haha! Where does Jason sit?

Maverick: Oh, we’re definitely gonna have a good time. I’m bringing my thundersticks. I wonder if they’re gonna give out more so my friends can have some, too.

  429. Kekoa September 26, 2008 10:23 pm

Just now returning to the playhouse. Knocking on the door first and then ringing the doorbell. Hmm the Poodles are quiet. The playhouse shows evidence of jm2375 leaving her usual mess. Esme left a few stick-em notes apologizing for not spending more time with us and yada-yada. Wow! empty…and so q-u-i-e-t.

  430. lava September 26, 2008 10:24 pm

Pauoa Boy, Randle is a stud. He should have plenty of schools to choose from, but the offers aren’t on the table as of yet. I think only New Mexico offered. Here is a link.

QQ orange, row 11, seat 19. Come visit! 😛

  432. Jason September 26, 2008 10:29 pm

And I know last year, they provided new Thunderstix every game. I don’t remember when they started that, homecoming? Boise? Eh, but there were new ones.

  433. Kekoa September 26, 2008 10:32 pm

Got my postcard in from the Softball team. The bracelets really do look real sharp! I feel so proud to have been able to be a part of this fundraiser. This is going to be a real precious piece of history for these women. I can see this become a treasure for them as a keepsake that will be handed down from generation to generation. They sure earned it.

(I almost tossed it in the trash as it looked like a promtional card from a Jewelry store!)

  434. Jason September 26, 2008 10:39 pm

Haha, same thing here Kekoa. But I usually check to see who’s doing the promotion first before trashing them. 😛

  435. jm2375 September 26, 2008 10:44 pm

Kekoa – 😀 NOT! Haven’t been in since, ummmm, hmmm, oh, neva mind.

  436. Kekoa September 26, 2008 10:51 pm

Curveball won! After further review, I noted that he used his ‘stealth’ technique, and appeared at just the right moment. It was even a surprise to him as he looked a little befuddled (???).

Now comes the uphill battle to have to work at keeping up with Ms Lizzy.

  437. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER September 26, 2008 10:52 pm

    Hiya!

Wow- I feel like So Good.
Last year he made my day (and son’s) by sharing his season tickets when he had to attend another function on gameday.
It feels really “So Good” to enable someone to attend their FIRST Warriors game at Aloha Stadium!
    Not to mention first T-Gate!

Has it been only a year since I attended my first game? WOW!!!

wafan- yeah, that comment was for the “debate”.

    Hi brew! Still up?

Hi Jason, Kekoa, jm2375, d1, SteveM, lava, Kelli, ST, lurkers 😆

  438. Kekoa September 26, 2008 10:54 pm

    jm2375 ~ Nah..nah..na..nah..nah..we had flan tonite!

  439. jm2375 September 26, 2008 10:58 pm

Hi LizK! How’s it going on da Garden Isle?

Sorry, can’t make anything tomorrow. Hapagirl *has* to go see a play at school as an assignment for class (gotta write paper on it). Of course, she’s not doing any schoolwork right now. Watching her play Mario Kart on the Wiiiiiiiiiiii.

  440. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER September 26, 2008 11:01 pm

jm2375- Speaking of Hapa- they are playing on Kauai tomorrow night… one night only… DANG!

  441. Jason September 26, 2008 11:07 pm

Okay, I need some help from the Tsai-kos who speak Hawaiian. A friend wants the lyrics to the song More Than Words (the Hawaiian lyrics, not the English version). I’ve tried searching for them, but to no avail. I’m trying to transcribe them, but my knowledge of Hawaiian is very limited. If anyone wants to help me and my friend out by listening to the song and transcribing it, could you send an e-mail to jnagaoka (at) hawaii.rr.com, and I’ll send you the MP3 that she sent me. Mahalo!

  442. Kekoa September 26, 2008 11:08 pm

    Hiya Liz!

See ya at the airport at 11:10 AM. Your due in at 11:09 so I’m giving you one minute to get off the plane and standing tall at curbside!

BTW Curveball has been briefed on what his duties will be as your seatmate. 1st priority is to keep the power supplied to your media electronics. 2nd priority is to keep up with the blog, answering your cell phone, look for photo ops and be a spotter and color commentator. Always be ready to deploy the banner, and most importantly learn the words to Hawaii Pono’i, because you will be singing a duet with her bubba!

    😆 Kekoa!
‘k gotta wash some clothes and get my bag packed.
Ordered 2 lilikoi chiffon pies from Hamuras today – for pickup tomorrow AM. They will be frozen for easy transport 😉

  444. jm2375 September 26, 2008 11:17 pm

flan – what kine? Mexican? Spanish? Cuban? Filipino? Me partial to Spanish & Cuban kine. I had a pretty good piece of guava chiffon cake tonight. yummmm.

Kekoa – you are such a brat! Just like homey. 👿 where’s my coco puffs?

  445. Nalani September 26, 2008 11:19 pm

D1 – we should be there after, and if not, I’ll hold it ’til next time. No worries.

  446. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER September 26, 2008 11:20 pm

Nalani- looking forward to seeing you again!!

  447. Kekoa September 26, 2008 11:31 pm

Da flan is from Tia Maria’s in Waipahu jm and you can’t have none cause me and pops ate it all!

    Coco puffs…Cocopuffs…Co – Co – Puffs!

Note to Curveball – cross Tia’s off your Mexican Restaurants list. I give it only half a star out of 5. The flan saved them a small ‘hip’ but no ‘hooray!’

  448. bighilofan2 September 26, 2008 11:46 pm

    Jjim Donovan

good job with BYU. win win and get good fun continuing good fun rivalry.

  449. curveball September 26, 2008 11:50 pm

    Kekoa:

  450. bighilofan2 September 26, 2008 11:51 pm

can anybody fill me in on the latest with Ching Cooke Field fix?

  451. curveball September 26, 2008 11:53 pm

Still do not know where I am going..gdholden at live dot com..

  452. SteveM September 27, 2008 12:01 am

curveball — check your email in around 10 minutes. I will send you directions and info….since I feel somewhat responsible since you are sitting next to Liz and Long Time UH Fan (who is filling in for me) …

  453. bighilofan2 September 27, 2008 12:01 am

    Jim Donovan,

How about we play the Irish in 10 years? You’d think ND would like a good scrap with UH Warriors and our Irish. 😀

  454. jm2375 September 27, 2008 12:04 am

Kekoa – try some Cuban food @ Soul de Cuba across from Hawaii Theater. Da Cuban Sandwich is *almost* as good as da kine get in Miami. Little pricey though.

  455. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER September 27, 2008 12:05 am

curveball- I sent you email too.

SteveM- are you here and just not coming to the game???

  456. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER September 27, 2008 12:06 am

jm2375- don’t think I’ve ever tasted Cuban food. Suggestions?

  457. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc September 27, 2008 12:08 am

If GoodThings Happen in Threes, then we are due for a win tomorrow night!! Will follow up on NO. 1 on Sunday,

T-GATE RECYCLING: Once again, we’ll provide recycling services at the T-Gate which includes taking your contributions from home as well. We’ll be donating the proceeds in the name of Tsaikos to Dole Middle School’s cross-country program under the supervision of Coach Alan Inaba to purchase shoes, uniforms, and event day meals.

Nearly 80% of the students are in the free or reduced-cost lunch program plus the median five-person family income in the area is under $30,000 whereas at Kawananoka Middle School, about three miles closer to town, it’s well over $50,000 – so proper athletic shoes & uniforms are not a high priority for many parents.

Coach Alan and his wife and two of his students will be stopping by the T-Gate sometime between 2 pm & 3:30 pm before heading over to the Stadium to see the game. Their tickets are courtesy of a Tsaiko Lurker and the UH Athletic Department. Please welcome them in case DrDoc and I haven’t gotten back yet.

And Yes! This is Good News #2.

We’re coming early to help with the set-up including a tarp to cover the grills as well as the pop-up tent, two tables, four chairs, a table-in-a-box, recycling bin, microwave/power strip/cord, and very large trash bags – I think 65 gallon size. Then we’re taking off for a couple of hours to run errands and expect to be back on site around 3 pm or thereabouts.

KEKOA: Once zoning applications get lost in the bureacracy of the Department of Planning & Permitting, it’s darn near impossible to move them along. Unfortunately, there are about 50 vacancies in DPP which, if filled, would go a long way towards speeding up applications. However, it’s almost a given that there will be a freeze on hiring announced after the election plus most vacant positions will be cut out altogether during the next budget battles next March through early June.

I’ll call Wena and get more information from her and then take a crack at it next week.

Mark your calendars (in pencil) for the Nevada game – information will be confirmed next week – when there will be a gigantic Obama Tailgate in the parking lot.

Found out from the Stadium Authority staff that Fred Hemmings called at the last minute to cancel his presentation. No word on whether it will be re-scheduled. I got to the meeting about five minutes after it started so I missed the announcement.

Hope to see many of you tomorrow… nite-nite

  458. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER September 27, 2008 12:10 am

    nitey nite, Doc!

  459. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc September 27, 2008 12:10 am

  460. curveball September 27, 2008 12:15 am

    LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER:

  461. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER September 27, 2008 12:19 am

    haha, curveball!
Bring your favorite beverages and something little to share if you like!
I brought pigs feet from Palama Supermarket once…I love that stuff…
And I ended up eating most of it 😉

  462. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER September 27, 2008 12:21 am

hmmm… looking at the menu- don’t see much in the way of veggies, fruits or rice. Fruit salad is always good!

  463. jm2375 September 27, 2008 12:25 am

Liz – all kinds of good stuff. Cuban food is not spicy, but hearty. Soul de Cuba is da only place for Cuban food. Dey put their own spin on some of the dishes and it’s not quite is good as what you find in So. Fla., but I’ll settle for it. Click on my name for their website with menus. 🙂

Still looking for a place that serves Spanish food, but don’t think one exists. Guess I gotta stick with trying to make my own.

  464. bighilofan2 September 27, 2008 12:25 am

    hi doc,

will call you in the morning. nitey nite.

  465. SteveM September 27, 2008 12:30 am

  471. al September 27, 2008 12:53 am

can we get at least 40k for tomw’s game?
c’mon….dump the tv and get your collective behinds to the game.
    you no shame or what?
you know i am talking to you.
do i have to name names?

  472. al September 27, 2008 12:54 am

    lizk…..fruits?
    fruits at a tailgate?
    fruits liz?

    ok….strawberry margaritas then.

  473. al September 27, 2008 12:55 am

    hi darren.

    long time no see.
    what two years now?
    drop by the tailgate.

  474. al September 27, 2008 1:00 am

bay area battle….tomw’s game will go a long way for the victor. given that many of the academically qualified bay area boys will venture over to either stanford or cal. those others are fair game for sjsu and hawaii, at least that has some history behind it

  475. Darren September 27, 2008 1:02 am

Al – Nah…has it been that long? Will be at the game, but getting there just before kickoff with my boy and nephew. One of these days, I’ll try to get there early enough to hit the T-Gate. Sounds like a lot of fun with a whole lot of folks there.

And I agree…it’s pretty pathetic that we can’t get 40k into Aloha. A stomping, screaming, raucous house is what college football is supposed to be all about.

  476. al September 27, 2008 1:05 am

darren….colt’s parents will drop by at the tailgater.

  477. Darren September 27, 2008 1:07 am

Any particular reason they’re in town?

  478. al September 27, 2008 1:08 am

    only tsai knows why.

maybe colt’s buying his dream home on the north shore after all and pops is finalizing stuff for him.

  479. […] Bruce Murray wrote an interesting post today onHere’s a quick excerpt […]

  480. al September 27, 2008 1:13 am

hats off to jim donovan for inking the byu games. only an athletic director with some history with the program would know that byu is an automatic.

so, for 2010, i would like to see oregon state comeback to the rust palace and maybe utah. okay, even air force would be fun if we can’t get smu here. i think all four could fill the stadium.

would be great to play two pac 10 teams per year. oh make that three with the hawaii bowl. we could be charter members if anything at all.

  482. al September 27, 2008 1:21 am

its gonna be a slugfest tomw.
i see both teams coming out hitting hard.
the rain and humidity may be in our favor.

qb is a big concern and the wr’s need to be extraordinary. however, the nitty gritty lays with the line. as pride. would say, the battle is won at the line of scrimmage.

    both ways.

okay. so do we see special teams play of yesteryear when the likes of petelo noga, semeri ulufale, and others used to wreak havoc. i never saw anyone play with such reckless abandom before. oh, and no forget james fenderson who made the nfl based on his special teams play.

i wonder if these guys get chronic headache these days?

  483. jm2375 September 27, 2008 1:30 am

ok hasta manana, oyasumina-tsai. see ya in the morning.

  484. Ralph September 27, 2008 1:33 am

speaking of attendance Al, were you and the rest of the McKinley alumni at the tigers and Castle game last night-ther tigers need all the support from all of you, they went down in flames 40-0…

  485. Ralph September 27, 2008 1:35 am

Al Ford Is. parking closed to the public- attendance probably under 30K being the reason not to open ford island.

  486. Darren September 27, 2008 1:35 am

I’m thinking that our OL and DL should fare well against WAC teams. The trenches are always different with BCS teams.

  487. al September 27, 2008 1:37 am

yeah, the tigers are heading south these days. kids aren’t coming out for the team. if they don’t watch out they will be the next kalani.

i thought ford island was closed because of the secret practices.

  488. al September 27, 2008 1:42 am

i am not surprised about the alleged lethargy this year. it happens when you experience success the prior year.

in the old days, after a team won the super bowl, one could bet with near certainty that last year’s champs would not cover the spread during the first four games. if they were sub .500 at that point you could bet the kitchen sink they would cover the fifth game.

that is how much emotion, desire, and intensity plays so strongly in this game.

gotta go moemoe now. big day tomw. big day.

and i hope the guy in the row behind us keeps his trap shut.

  489. Darren September 27, 2008 1:44 am

I can’t believe Pete Carroll flew in to take in the Punahou and Kamehameha game. Not a fan of USC, but that is big time when the glamour name head coach flies in for the night to watch your game. Like Stacy’s article notes, it’s a great experience for *all* the players in that game to just get some exposure in front of a big time coach.

  490. TChahng [태한민국] September 27, 2008 2:46 am

    Aloha Tsai-kos!

Another dateless Saturday night in Seoul. Finished my Christmas shopping Osan today. Now I can relax and enjoy the rest of the football season. But… for a pregame warm-up, I’ll pop in the DVD of the 2006 San Jose State game and watch Yonus Davis rush for only 29 yards in 14 carries.

See ya on da oda side of da (new) moon…

So sorry that Kalani forfeited their game against my Na Ali’i.

  521. lava September 27, 2008 6:35 am

12th man is being paged … please show up at Aloha Stadium.

If any of the players lack attitude for this game, we need to help instill one.

    Go Warriors.

  522. d1島: September 27, 2008 6:37 am

    brew,
Only if you really mean it!

    heheheh

  523. d1島: September 27, 2008 6:39 am

  525. brew808 September 27, 2008 6:43 am

We want to see the Warriors come out with the same unbounded fury that OSU showed vs. the trojans this past Thurs. night!!! GO WARRIORS!!! 😯 😀 😈

  526. Bulla September 27, 2008 6:43 am

    d1,

16 oz medium rare ribeye, 4 baked potatoe, steamed vegetables, caesar salad, strawberry lemonade(bottomless) for $18.99, how you figgah? whew, gotta love America, haha

took the beast and his team mate #94 bryce Scanlon, yes they’re all related, haha. they had fun, did their damage then we took them home for some rest

glad you mentioned the yoda character, don’t mean to step on Al’s toes you know, and that is a lot better than the Jabba character, although i don’t drool as much, haha

mrs. b, still in coma land….she worked on a lot of budget work for her hotels and is now in rest mode….pretty soon gotta get up and get ready, i heard that this game is sold out…..with a lot of ‘UTES’ running free.

    GO WARRIORS
    GO WILDCATS (2)
    CONGRATS TO WAIANAE
    KAM, WHAT HAPPENED?

  527. brew808 September 27, 2008 6:49 am

    Heh bulla! What’s “KAM”? 😀

We’ll all be cheering for Weber State and especially #95! GO MR. BEAST!!!

BTW – a better choice for dinner (for some) would be one potato and 4 steaks! 😀 😯 😆

  528. Jason September 27, 2008 6:52 am

Bulla: We’re related too, yeah? 🙂

Alright, I’ll be out most of the day — Moanalua is hosting the first math meet of the year. I’ll see everyone at the tailgate, whenever I get there. Go Warriors!

  529. d1島: September 27, 2008 6:53 am

    Bulla,

Sounds ono. If get take out….nah, j/k

Enjoy da game. Hope the Beast has a great one.

Listened in to the Pun-Kam(ehameha) came. Was a little surprised that KS was only able to punch it in once.

  530. brew808 September 27, 2008 6:54 am

    Go get ‘m Jason! Represent! 😀 😯 😆

  531. brew808 September 27, 2008 6:57 am

    hey d1島 – Wasn’t it 7-0 at one time….??? That’s what the blog reports said…. 😀 😯 😆

  532. brew808 September 27, 2008 6:58 am

    Big 10 Football is boring….. IMHO 😯 🙁 😮

  533. d1島: September 27, 2008 7:00 am

    Jason,

Would you be willing to share some of the locker room pre-meet pep talk you give today?

  534. brew808 September 27, 2008 7:02 am

Okay – I think I say this on most gameday Saturdays. I know there was some partying going on last night (even though I wasn’t invited 😥 ), and some blog hosts need their beauty rest…., but isn’t it about time for a new, Warrior Beat post?!! 😯 🙄 😯

  535. Bulla September 27, 2008 7:03 am

    Go get ’em Jason,

our hanai nephew, at first glance, you and the beast could be twins…at first glance, then i put my glasses on. you’d appreciate that ryan’s favorite class is math, and he is doing very well. so much for the ‘dumb jock’ syndrome, also he is doing good in english, loves the expository part, hmmmmmm, where would that come from? i don’t know

Warriors need to be ready to play! many of us are very familiar with Coach Tomey and his ability to get his players ‘game ready’, and it will be no different tonight. yeah, yeah, yeah, he loves hawaii, misses hawaii, has great memories of hawaii…..

don’t believe for a second he doesn’t want to put it where the sun don’t shine to us……SJSU needs a victory badly also, and they didn’t fly 2500 miles to sip maitais……WARRIORS BE READY

Have fun at the T-gate, looks like we’ll do a Sonic drive through, maybe i’ll do a commercial for them, who knows…..haha

Let’s go Warriors, the time has come

  536. d1島: September 27, 2008 7:04 am

    brew,
Yeah. maybe KS was counting points they nevah had, too. 😉

  547. brew808 September 27, 2008 7:30 am

Now I’m getting nervous! On my DirecTV – there’s no evidence of them broadcasting the UH vs. SJSU game. They list all the other games…. but the last ones are at 8:00 PM ET! Yikes!

So far, only the full College Football Scoreboard on the ESPN website says the game is on ESPN GamePlan…no where else…. 😯 🙁 😯

  548. Ronnie September 27, 2008 7:44 am

    IT’S SATURDAY!!!

So, I wonder how long it would take to have my parents buy a slingbox and set it up so I can watch the game….

  552. Bulla September 27, 2008 7:58 am

tall order for the Wildcats today, but hey, chance of a lifetime……stap up, man up, shut up time for football.

good luck to all the hawaii student athletes wherever they are today, and still playing the sport they love….we love the WARRIORS, but we still love all the other guys still baning heads

    Hawaiians, Stand Proud!

    Now, LET’S GO WARRIORS!!!!

  553. duffer September 27, 2008 7:59 am

Geez, don’t tell me I have to go to the “darkside” to watch the game. Those $5 charge for “soft” drinks is gonna drain the pocketbook!

  557. wafan September 27, 2008 8:18 am

Mmmmmmm. Sonic. Good burgers, fries and shakes.

How are the pre-TGate preparations going? Got the coals piled high? Meats marinated? Oysters shucked? Liquid refreshments iced?

  558. duffer September 27, 2008 8:18 am

    Hey d1,

When you’re listening to Nalani singing, think of me and my contest……….

    🙂

  559. wafan September 27, 2008 8:20 am

How about Popeye’s or Church’s? Yum!

  560. Kekoa September 27, 2008 8:20 am

Good Morning Ronnie!…I’m kona grab one green bahnanah and one giant kalua pig manapua, fresh outta da steamer for breakfast. Then, it’s off to the t-gate!

Once we’re set up, then it’ll be time to be “Drivin’ Ms. Lizzy!” from the airport.

Ultimate Goal: BEAT DEM PESKY SPARTOONS!”

  561. wafan September 27, 2008 8:23 am

    Duffer . . .

    Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha!

  562. Kazz September 27, 2008 8:29 am

    Wafan,

I was disappointed with Church’s Chicken. I would rather have some spicy Popeye’s. But I’d still have KFC over all of those!

  563. Kekoa September 27, 2008 8:29 am

Duffer ~ Maybe we can get Nalani to autograph the inside of one empty oyster shell for you! Consolation prize. Problem is, a lot of Tsaiko’s will want to be consoled…

  564. Kazz September 27, 2008 8:30 am

    Bulla,

The OSU and USC game is pau. The nation is craving for another “upset”.

    GO GEEEEV EM!!!

    BEAT UTAH!!!!

  565. wafan September 27, 2008 8:33 am

    Kazz . . .

    Serious? Popeye’s, Church’s, . . . KFC. Well, actually, Mom’s then Popeye’s. HA!

  566. curveball September 27, 2008 8:34 am

Anybody know what the points are on tonights game?

  567. wafan September 27, 2008 8:34 am

    Is Army’s QB, Bowden, related?

And, I do not mean to Kekoa.

  568. duffer September 27, 2008 8:34 am

This is one of the few times I wished I lived on Oahu!

  569. wafan September 27, 2008 8:36 am

    Uh,

    6 points for a TD
    1 point for PAT
    3 points for a FG
    2 points for a Safety

    Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha!

    Sorry, could not resist.

  570. Kazz September 27, 2008 8:41 am

    Wafan,

Yup. When I was living in Kalihi back back back in the day… My parents used to work a lot and then my grandparents would make it a tradition thing to get KFC for dinner every other Friday. So it’s a nostalgic thing I guess.

A nostalgic thing that will eventually kill you …. but …. so does everything else I guess.

  571. Kazz September 27, 2008 8:45 am

    curveball:

    September 27th, 2008 at 8:34 am
Anybody know what the points are on tonights game?

    IMPORTANT POINTS:

For Hawaii – play with emotion, keep coming at them 808% no matter what, get back to basics and master it, and believe.

For San Jose State – pray for a quick “death”.

  572. bighilofan2 September 27, 2008 8:48 am

    Duffer,

I agree with you 100% them lucky buggahz they can just drive down da street and watch da Warriors.
Choices choices. Grandkids or Warriors. I wish I wish….. no mo choice really.

    boooo hoooo hoooooo…….

    Go Warriors.

  573. wafan September 27, 2008 8:50 am

    Kazz . . .

Nothing wrong with nostalgia. Even after being gone from Hawai’i for nearly 30 years I still miss a lot of things. Definitely lots of good memories brought on by sights, sounds, tastes, and smells.

Every so often when having fries and a Coke, when things are just right, it reminds me of Scotty’s. Used to be by the Likelike Drive Inn.

Well, since it is lunch time, guess what I am having. HA! Maybe it will happen again!

  574. Bulla September 27, 2008 8:55 am

    Kazz

mahalo bro, we are not going into their stadium to lose…that is for sure. interesting, a few hawaii boys on the utah roster

    daniel bukarau from kailua hs
    nai fotuu from kahuku
    thor salanoa from radford hs
    ray stowers from iolani
    tyler williams from kamehameha
    chase nakamura, grey shirt

we are going to battle, time to bring it and see what happens. let’s have the Warriors get a win, and the Wildcats (weber and linfield) come out on top…main thing, injury free.

    GO WILDCATS
    GO WARRIORS

  576. Kekoa September 27, 2008 8:58 am

wafan ~ Stop!…You making me flash back to “Rainbow Rollerland” next to Like Like Drive Inn. All dat open space for parking. Now? 2 Toyotas and a mini-cooper and the lot is full!

  577. Kazz September 27, 2008 9:00 am

    Wafan,

I miss KC Drive Inn. I mean the Waffle Hot Dogs were “ok” and nothing really special, but you’re right in referring to the smells, sounds, sights, etc combined that make memories.

On Sundays I remember my parents used to take me and my brother to the Honolulu Zoo, then to KC Drive Inn and then take the food over to Kapiolani Park for a picnic.

I guess when I got older I would still make an effort to go to KC Drive Inn, well when it was still in business, and looking back it was for more than the waffle hot dogs.
