Salas gets agent; No surgery for Pilares; no boos party?

Greg Salas told the Warrior Beat he has signed with agent Kenny Zuckerman, who also represents Davone Bess, David Veikune, Ryan Mouton, Wayne Hunter, Isaako Sopoago,  and Brashton Satele.

* * * * *

Slotback Kealoha Pilares said he has been diagnosed with a partially torn posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) in his left knee, an injury that will not require surgery. He suffered the injury while trying to return a punt in the first quarter of the Hawaii Bowl.

Pilares has started a rehabilitation program at UH. He is awaiting word on whether he will be invited to the NFL Scouting Combine in February.

This week, PIlares will meet with two agents.

* * * * *

A couple of Tulsa players said that when they walked into the bowl banquet, they heard booing of their highlight video.

But David Matlin, executive director of the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl, said he does “not remember” that incident occurring. He said he was emcee of the banquet, and if the incident  did happen, “Where was I?” He wondered if this was a story that grew to be a “mountain out of a molehill.”

True or not, it did appear to serve as some sort of motivation for the Golden Hurricane.

* * * * *

From Ferd’s excellent story today comes UH’s acknowledgement that it will pay between $150,000 and $175,000 in travel subsidies for Mountain West football teams. Interesting paragraph:

For MWC football teams, the numbers are set to approximate the cost of a charter flight for a travel party of up to 130 people. The roster limit for MWC football travel squads is 64 players, with the remainder made up of coaches, support staff, broadcasters and officials.

Charter flights?

UH will pay for charter flights for visiting teams, but not for its own team?

Dave Reardon also wrote a good column about those who have passed away in the past year.

Add to that list:

• John Strickland, who holds HPU’s single-season record for points and rebounds. Strickland died of a heart attack in October.

• Rodney Toyoma, viewed as the ambassador for the UH basketball program for more than two decades. Toyama helped prepare food for the post-game spreads, and served as a guide on the ways of local etiquette to Mainland-raised coaches.

• Chief Justice William Richardson, always known as “C.J.,” who was a big UH basketball booster. He was the last of the old-time breed, who wore a coat to sporting events, but yet would participate in the wave.

• “Florida Ted,” our faithful blogger from the Sunshine State. Great fan. Great man.

* Long Time UH Fan, also known as LTUHFan, another great and generous guy.

• The Honolulu Advertiser.

On a GOOD note Tsaiko Nation I have a gift to offer !

I have in my closet BRAND NEW an xl Hawaii green 100 year polo football shirt.

Rainbowtique gave to me this year to HONOR any Hawaiian function that I choose too. In

supporting that SPIRIT I have chosen the Warrior Beat. Those who are interested in this GREAT looking shirt that is $50.00 in retail value can you PLEASE leave your name on the blog with the words “luv the green from RC” and I will have my good friend Pomai do the drawing. Let’s say 7:00 pm my time tomorrow which would be 5:00pm Hawaii time to select the winner. How ever your terms you want to add on to it is fine with me as I just want to give you good folks a nice gift for all the DEDICATION you do for Hawaii athletics.

I do want to be fair and have it open for ALL who choose to liken the shirt for themselves or a gift to some one who would appreciate wearing it. I am HONORED and very HAPPY to do this for you

  11. Ralph December 28, 2010 1:53 am

UH saves on travel expenses when we eliminate travel costs to Logan, Utah, Moscow, Idaho, Ruston, La and Las Cruces N.M.

Only Wyoming will be a challenge in travel logistics in the future MWC. The other teams are from the WAC and the remaining MWC teams are near major metro airports.

Our non revenue sports saves by travelling to California only. We save a lot by not having to travel to the Mtn and CT zones, especially with the inclusion of the Texas teams and Denver in the WAC in 2012.

  12. Ralph December 28, 2010 1:54 am

Pomai if you are coming to the cc today at Maple Garden, please bring my laptop. thanks.

Been working on the blog archives again…specifically in the Dec-Feb 2007 timeframe. We talked about food places no longer in existence, the termite place, wrestling at the Civic, the imaginary Tsai-ko football team with gigi as head coach, etc. These topics have remerged often. It goes in cycles. Spouses scolding us for being online so much at all hours. Here’s true story/dream from those those days…

    Comment from: SteveM [Visitor]

Was working today but peeked in a few times. Bulla as a wedge buster conjured a visualization of of the ST bloggers football team and I was tempted to jump in. Maybe tomorrow…I’m in trouble. My “Peaches” is hinting I’ve been online too much. Last night kinda made her point. Here’s what she and I remember…

Peaches nudges me awake with a series of two hand thrusts…

Peaches: “Wake up– you’re snoring….” (again)

Me: “Sorry… URL…broken”…” [back to snoring]

    [nudge-nudge]

Me: “The URL link,,, broken…every time someone clicks on it, I snore”

    [snore] [nudge-nudge]

    Me: “URL…people clicking…not my fault…”

    [snore] [nudge-nudge]

Me: “The URL… kid has to fix it…”

    Peaches: “What kid?”

    Me: “kid.. Punchbowl Kid….”

    – – – – – – – – –

Did you fix it yet, Kid? Ever been blamed for being the cause of snoring?

Wasn’t that a leading question? BTW is “Brew808” from Oregon? I picked up on “808Chef” being from San Jose.

Gotta go… Peaches has her hand on the circuit breaker…

    02/27/07 @ 22:58

…this was also the start of my cat & mouse game with brew808>/b>. I think I’m still the mouse. 😐

    Pride,

    Bigislandkurt

just got to read your posts from yesterday.

I agree with BIK. no can disrespect Coach Mack. no can.

Coach Mack was right about looking at the team during his halftime interview.

and when we started the third quarter. it was all or nuttin. and we scored.

Tulsa then outplayed us, plain and simple. and I remember looking at all the players who were not suited up for the game. had plenty. and i wuz wondering why they weren’t suited up. and then, i counted the injuries in the game.

yup, the plain fact is we never have enough 16 penny nails. we had some. but not enough.

but we really need a 20 penny nail. sometin you can recognize is a nail when lookin in from the next construction site. we need a big nai.dat da odda 16 penny nails can look up to for inspiration.

being a big big nail starts in da mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 alls i gotta say is, for 2011,

    GO WARRIORS!!

  19. RainbowCliff December 28, 2010 4:14 am

ALWAYS a pleasure kind sir and look forward to the winner being named later on today.

    Have a GREAT day !

  20. LizKauai -iPad December 28, 2010 4:55 am

#18- a team requires all of its parts to move in harmony- as one. As the individuals mature, keep their eyes on the goal and keep their noses to the grindstone, success will follow. Coach Mack is training Student Athletes to prepare them for the future by being successful during their time at UH. As Rainbow Cliff has attested by word and deed, this is a valuable opportunity for a young athlete if he takes serious advantage of the opportunity – win or lose – as a team.

Just happened to be wearing the same polo shirt to work today.

    Good Morning Tsai-kos!

  33. Garret December 28, 2010 7:00 am

It is GREAT to hear that Kealoha Pilares will not need surgery–hopefully he is able to rehab quickly so that he’s ready for the various auditions for the NFL. Best wishes to him and the rest of the graduating Warriors as they attempt the next phase of their life–whether it is pro football or whatever else they will do. In Pilares’ case, he’ll be in someone’s NFL camp as a draft pick or free agent and has a good shot to make a team.

  34. Garret December 28, 2010 7:03 am

NCAA posted an article that some of Mack’s salary came from UH and some came from donors. If we look at the USA Today salary information that Ala Wai posted, it shows that UH pays Mack $1.1 million and outside donors pay Mack $13,000. So, it is correct that some of Mack’s salary may come from outside donors…but it is also true that UH pays Mack $1.1 million.

  35. Garret December 28, 2010 7:18 am

It is also true that more than half of the schools are in BCS AQ conferences. Each Big 10 school gets $22 million more in TV money than UH, each SEC school gets about $20 million more in TV money than UH, each Pac-10 and Big 12 school gets $12 million or so more from their conference than UH has been getting from the WAC, etc. So, UH cannot compare salaries with SEC and Big 10 schools–when we compare salaries it should be with non-AQ schools.

According to the USA Today list, UH is paying more than Penn State, Cincinnati, Oregon State, Iowa State, Pitt, West Virginia, Purdue, Baylor, Minnesota, Indiana, and Washington State.

The non-AQ schools (not counting TCU and Utah since they will be in AQ conferences next season) that pay their coaches more than Mack: Boise State and Central Florida (C-USA champions this year).

    http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/2010-coaches-contracts-database.htm

  36. Garret December 28, 2010 7:19 am

The USA Today had Pat Hill at $952,499, but Ferd’s article detailed his pay cut:

The WAC’s senior active head coach, Fresno State’s Pat Hill, has agreed to a restructured extension that, beginning Saturday, will lower his guaranteed pay by the Bulldogs from $952,499 to $650,000 annually, according to USA Today.

    http://www.staradvertiser.com/sports/ferdswords/20101226_considering_an_extension_for_mcmackin_is_sensible.html

  37. Hank December 28, 2010 7:19 am

    Good Morning Tsaikos,

    random thoughts…

    – Coach Mac did a solid job this year, and I hope he agrees to an extension. I think JD will offer him one.

-No answer to Tulsa’s Offense in the second half, gotta give them credit for a job well done.

-We need a new special teams coach, but I think the solid showing on special teams in the Hawaii Bowl may have saved his job. Jordan Monico…wow.

-I hope Zach Masch gets a try at DE in the spring, that guys motor is too good to waste on the bench.

-Good to see the Governor at the game, we’ll be a stronger program with his support over the next four-years…maybe 8.

-Our edge this year was being the underdog that got no respect…except in the Hawaii Bowl.

  38. jojo ® December 28, 2010 7:22 am

    Good Morning!!!

    jm2375 – I see that too…has Cat returned?

  39. chopsueyboy December 28, 2010 7:27 am

Guess I do something presidential lots of time in my life,

go bowling and eat shaved ice.

Don’t ever recall doing both on the same day.

Maybe only Presidents can do that.

  40. Garret December 28, 2010 7:27 am

It sounds like I was wrong on the retirement benefits calculation. I had read an article that seemed to indicate that there was a difference in retirement benefits for Mack and JJ since JJ had half of his salary paid by donors. I thought I read that had something to do with the state benefits, but it sounds like I remembered wrong or what I had read was wrong.

Maybe I’m also wrong about what someone told me about the need to coach 10 years at UH to get retirement benefits. I had been told that, but maybe that is wrong. I did think that was a difference between how Cal Lee and Ron Lee reacted to being demoted, since Ron Lee had 10+ years already but Cal hadn’t since he wasn’t on JJ’s first staff at UH.

  46. Garret December 28, 2010 8:01 am

Fox Sports says that Adrian Klemm may be the best recruiter in California this year. It is great to see former UH players succeed in coaching–there are already head coaches at numerous schools (Navy, Army, Georgia Tech, etc.) with UH roots and Klemm may someday add to that list.

  49. Slugger December 28, 2010 8:15 am

    Garret,

#40 ~ I believe it’s the general State retirement rules in effect. You have to work at least 10 years to be fully vested in the State retirement system.

I’ll have to figure out if/when I’ll get to a MBB game to get the pot back to your Mom & Dad. Since my son is home, I’m spending as much time with him till he leaves.

Someone has the metal serving spoon that was wrapped in foil after the game. Please get it back to Momo, or bring it to the CC today, and I will. Thanks.

  50. Stephen Tsai December 28, 2010 8:17 am

    Benefits:

Ron Lee used to teach at Kaiser and was at UH for more than 10 years, so he has accumulated the necessary years for state-subsidized medical.

Cal Lee did not join the state system until joining the UH coaching staff.

It depends when you start, but if you entered the state system a while back, you only need 10 years for tenure and post-UH medical benefits. Somebody has to double check this, but I think now, if you work 10 years, you’re only entitled to half-paid medical.

  51. Mr W December 28, 2010 8:20 am

Viriliter Age, Kealoha! You’ve made all of us Monarchs very proud! Good luck at the next level!

  52. Stephen Tsai December 28, 2010 8:21 am

    Mouton:

Interesting to note that Ryan Mouton and David Veikune both did not start in 2007.

  53. d1島 December 28, 2010 8:26 am

UConn will probably be taking a HUGE bath on their BCS trip. No doubt the weather is not helping things either but this is from earlier this month when they still had 13,500 unsold tickets.

UConn also has a hotel obligation — a total of 550 rooms at three different hotels ranging in price from $125-225 a night, not including tax, with blocks reserved for either three or seven nights. Additional expenses include a chartered flight and meals for the team, staff and 300-member band, as well as a $100,000 bonus to coach Randy Edsall, and smaller bonuses for assistants, per their contracts, for getting the team to a BCS bowl.

Cost of any tickets or hotel rooms that go unfilled are absorbed by the university, with the exception of the 150 rooms at the Westin Kierland Resort and Spa, where UConn is on the hook for only half of money owed on unsold rooms at the $225-a-night hotel.

Whether UConn maximizes its revenue opportunity will depend on the amount of tickets it can sell. The school will almost certainly take a bath. As of Monday night, only 4,000 tickets had been sold, meaning UConn was still holding roughly $2.5 million in unsold tickets.

    http://www.nhregister.com/articles/2010/12/15/news/doc4d0803ecabb12514827842.txt?viewmode=fullstory

  54. d1島 December 28, 2010 8:33 am

One big problem for UConn is to convince their fans to purchase tickets from the school instead of a cheaper alternative like stubhub.

UConn ad campaigns encourge fans to purchase travel packages through the school (uconnbowl.com). But it doesn’t help that game tickets can be purchased through alternate websites like stubhub.com for as little as $20.

  55. Old School Dave December 28, 2010 8:40 am

Will get slammed on this post, but here goes.

Maybe UH needs to make their players take a class on effective time management. Being excused from practice because you have paper or project due?? Give me a break. Spend less time goofing around online, sitting around talking story when they should be studying, or playing video games boys. Need to take responsibility for your actions.

No sense of urgency. Easy-going, laid back attitude, slippers and shorts, hang loose brah attitude. Goofing off, joking around, not paying attention at practices (the few they had). Some very troubling signs about the UH football team leading up to the embarrassment on national TV. Not to mention some additionally troubling reports of some very classless behavior by UH players that reflected very negatively on the program and school at the Bowl functions.

Discipline seems to be a bad word with the football program. But on the other hand, Mac is a nice guy. WTF is going on?

  56. greenthumb December 28, 2010 8:43 am

Good morning, and good knee news for Kealoha Pilares. In ST’s new paragraph above about charter flights, did UH agree to pick up the tab for the players and coaches, or the whole traveling party? This is the sentence he quotes: “The roster limit for MWC football travel squads is 64 players, with the remainder made up of coaches, support staff, broadcasters and officials.” Doesn’t seem right that we should be on the hook for 130 seats. Somewhat more than 64, yes, but not double that figure.

  57. Stretch December 28, 2010 8:45 am

    Good Morning Tsaikos!!

#56 – maybe Mack is too nice and wants to be the player’s friend??

  58. NCAA December 28, 2010 8:47 am

    #58,

Maybe more like a father figure??

  59. Old School Dave December 28, 2010 8:48 am

Will definitely get slammed on this one.

Not making a moral judgment, just an observation. One of the issues facing UH football is the inordinate number of players with children and families. In the old days, some college coaches wouldn’t recruit or shy away from recruits with kids or who were married. Simple fact is that when you have a wife, kids, bills to pay, work, you’re not going to be as focused as a player without those obligations. Again, this is not criticism at players with kids, but it has to play a factor in a team’s performance when you have so many players with family obligations.

  60. Stretch December 28, 2010 8:54 am

#60 – another way to look at this is these players are more responsible?? They have priorities in life and will not get caught up wasting time getting into trouble?? I think players without wives or kids also have outside influences that take their attention away from sports??

  61. NCAA December 28, 2010 8:56 am

    Mr. Old School Dave,

Coaches have family obligations too. Face it, there are numerous outside influences that affect or has an effect on performance. It’s up to the individual and his support cast on how to deal with these issues.

Take Moniz for example, he has a child, how was his performance in relation to the entire season?

  62. Garret December 28, 2010 8:56 am

The Tulsa newspaper listed 3 things that were major motivation sources for Tulsa…the Star-Advertiser was one of them.

Everyone seemed to overlook Tulsa and think the nation’s No. 24 team would walk all over the Hurricane.

Don’t think TU’s football players heard the same things. There were a message board rumor that a Hawaii coach said the Warriors were going to “kick Tulsa’s —” during a radio interview following their season-ending UNLV game. True or untrue, a fuse was lit then.

Then the Hawaii football team booed the TU highlight video during a pregame banquet as the Tulsa players entered a hotel ball room. That nearly set off the dynamite.

On game day, the local newspaper listed eight categories, giving co-WAC champion Hawaii an edge in seven of eight different slots. TU’s only advantage was special teams.

The three ineligible players don’t have children.

  64. Garret December 28, 2010 8:58 am

Tulsa hasn’t ended a season ranked in a *long* time. After seeing them play in person, I think they deserve to end this season in the top 25.

Will Tulsa finish in the Top 25 this season? It’s possible, but the breaks have to fall its way. The Hurricane have not finished in the polls since ending No. 21 following the 1991 campaign.

  65. Da Punchbowl Kid December 28, 2010 8:58 am

    Good point Stretch.

Remember the great BYU teams in the 80s? Didn’t they have a lot of family men who were team players as well? Are marriage and football exclusive of each other?

  66. Stephen Tsai December 28, 2010 8:59 am

How come the Tulsa players thought that the highlight video, and not themselves, were being booed?

  67. NCAA December 28, 2010 9:01 am

Many Pro players have family obligations. Maybe the NFL, NBA, or MLB should look for Monks.

  72. greenthumb December 28, 2010 9:07 am

After reading Ferd’s story, I am more curious than ever why we are agreeing to pay for 130 seats for football visits. This is what he wrote about the earlier travel subsidies: “Until the WAC expanded to 16 teams, for example, UH paid for 65 roundtrip tickets from the West Coast for conference football opponents and 18 in men’s basketball and other sports.” Another difference is in the past there was no payment when visiting football teams in our conference used the Hawaii exemption, but now it doesn’t matter, we pay for every visit.

I promise you that no UH coach said the Warriors would kick butt, especially during a radio interview. McMackin went out of his way to say the oddsmakers were wrong to install the Warriors as double-digit favorites.

    greenthumb,

I believe the MWC football teams will be coming here on chartered flights. I’m not sure if the number of seats is an issue. Maybe someone with more information can answer that.

  77. gigi-hawaii December 28, 2010 9:24 am

Credit the Tulsa defense and the interceptions. They simply out-played UH.

  78. greenthumb December 28, 2010 9:29 am

#77 Old Diver, thanks. Just seems like if we charter the flight, we should get to sell the non-player, non-coach, non-support staff seats? I remember someone posting that the players used to spread out a little in the 3+3 seating, 4 players per row … but if the visiting team wants to control access to those “extra” seats, I just have an issue with us paying for them … sell them to the visitors at cost, maybe? 😉

  79. LizKauai (iChrome) December 28, 2010 9:30 am

    GOOD MORNING HAWAII!

We can stay in the WAC – but at what cost$$$$$? On to Ruston; on to San Antonio, Denver, etc etc. And how many of our so-called fans would go to Aloha Stadium to watch some of the teams that would come in? How many would stay the course and keep paying for PPV?

We could go Indie – and again at what costs???$$$$ On to Annapolis, Colorado Springs, West Point, Denver (Boulder) and what have you>

We could go back and play Redlands, Fullertons, Geographical Louisanas, Geographical Illinois, the Central Washingtons or Portlands (do any of them still play?)

We may bitch and groan about the costs of playing in the MWC and GWC or how many are on the airplane BUT hopefully it will come out in the wash, all things considered.

What practical alternatives would you take?

  83. al December 28, 2010 9:34 am

besides that…if mack was attributed to such words as that he would have been fined by the administration as his gag order on expletives still remains.

  85. Stephen Tsai December 28, 2010 9:37 am

I’m curious about the “sharing” part of “cost-sharing.” Sounds like cost-assuming.

As somebody told me, this is what happens when you call a news conference before “dotting the i’s and crossing the ts.”

    Leverage goes out the window.

  86. Stephen Tsai December 28, 2010 9:37 am

Spoke with David Matlin, who was emcee of the banquet. Said he does not remember the incident occurring. Surprised when it was brought up to him.

  87. Turfwar December 28, 2010 9:38 am

Sorry ST. I heard the interview w/ Mac on 1420 in an interview with I think the Animals afternoon show or his last coaches show. It was a moment of excitement thing not meant to discredit anyone and I think Gary D. quickly moved on to try to cover it up but it sounded like it was meant to fire up the crowd. I’ve been in the business a long time and it certainly surprised me at the time.

  88. wafan December 28, 2010 9:39 am

He said it during his post UNLV game interview.

I was shocked 1420 does not use a time delay. Maybe they should for his interviews.

Plus, those shows are taped and archived.

I think HD has a natural delay of a couple of a few seconds.

  95. SteveM December 28, 2010 9:47 am

    Good morning everyone!

Coincidence that ST notes the passing of FloridaTed and Long Time UH Fan while I am working on my blog archives. Florida Ted posted as “Ted Domay” in those days. My vision got blurry in this vog when I saw their names daily.

  96. Stephen Tsai December 28, 2010 9:48 am

I always think it’s interesting that coaches who claim not to read or listen to media reports sure know a lot about media reports.

  97. Stephen Tsai December 28, 2010 9:51 am

I do miss Florida Ted and LTUHFan.

It’s amazing how friendships can be built from “imaginary people,” as Wena called them.

I’ve probably met Garret twice in person, but feel like he’s my next-door neighbor. Then again, I probably communicate with Garret more than I do with Mr. Tanaka.

Yeah, remembering LTUHFan and Florida Ted with misty eyes. Cheers to them.

  100. SteveM December 28, 2010 9:54 am

Since football players are larger than the average size 150-lb person (is that standard still used nowadays?), I would guess that some of the 130 seats on the flight would be unoccupied to allow more shoulder room.

  101. gigi-hawaii December 28, 2010 9:55 am

Florida Ted once asked me to edit his novel.

LTUH Fan bought my 3 memoirs and, following my lead, went on a NS diet and lost 13 lbs before going back to his regular diet.

Both of them super nice guys!

  102. d1島 December 28, 2010 9:55 am

    OSD,

No slamming from me re: #56. Maybe a pat on the back.

  103. Pomai December 28, 2010 10:02 am

My 2 cents on the travel sharing – I can see us picking up the tab to say fly Wyoming from LA to Honolulu and back, but they should pick up the cost from Wyoming to LA. Also we should only have to share the extended airfare, not any hotel or meals and such as this would be a normal cost for them, well maybe pick up the difference between hotel and food on the mainland.

  104. Stephen Tsai December 28, 2010 10:03 am

That’s the beauty of blog readers. We do our own reading and writing and opine-ing.

Imagine if, say, DPK, said, “Hey, Sweety, can you read all of the posts and stories and tell me what’s going on?”

    DPK would be DOA.

  105. d1島 December 28, 2010 10:03 am

    NCAA:

    December 28th, 2010 at 9:02 am

Tulsa is good, UH lost, move forward.

Fine. The question is in what manner does the forward movement occur?

Are losses to “good” teams now deemed to be acceptable? “Just move on. Nothing to see here, folks.”

One last season in the comfortable confines of the WAC and then what?

Excitement about moving closer to being in an AQ conference and contention for the automatic BCS-bid when present leadership has brought about a victory over one AQ team in three years.

Current status is that Mack will lead the team into its inaugural MWC campaign. The only basis for predicting how successful that will be is results to date.

  106. Stephen Tsai December 28, 2010 10:07 am

Not exactly sure how UH recoups the money.

Increased attendance? UH plays Fresno in 2011 in the WAC. It’s going to make more money playing Fresno in 2012? I think what is meant is UH’s attendance will not go down, as it will be playing Fresno instead of Texas-San Antonio in 2012.

UH will lose the $2.5 million it receives from pay-per-view. So, with all economics, it starts with UH being $2.5 million in the hole.

That said, it’s better to be in the MWC than in the revised WAC.

  107. Derek December 28, 2010 10:09 am

Sports is great, especially football, college or pro. There is so much excitement and emotion and football doesn’t bounce straight so you never know what’s going to happen. The struggle, the passion, the blood and sweat and tears, the elation, the skill, the pain the body takes, the physicality, and of course the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. Somebody has to win and somebody has to lose. Thankfully, we have instant replay to make sure the plays are correct. Otherwise, we are at the mercy of the zebras and they have made a ton of mistakes to make us say “Come On, Man.” Football mirrors life. A lot of people are out of a job, people are struggling to pay their bills, pay the mortgage. But, everyday is a new day, and an opportunity to get better and improve in some fashion. My poor San Francisco 49ers were eliminated. There is always next year as long as we get another great QB. On the other hand, my favorite baseball team, the San Francisco Giants are World Champs so I’m happy as a lark. The weather and all that rain has slowed things down a little, but eventually the sun will shine and everythings will be okay again. It’s better than on the mainland for sure. As we move on into the new year I’d like to say Happy New Year and wish for a prosperous and healthy 2011 to all of the bloggers. I’ve enjoyed the stories and the opinions and it’s been fun. Here are my top 5 stories locally for 2010 and my top 5 wishes for 2011.

    Top 5 for 2010

    1. UH invited to MWC and the Big West

    2. UH wins WAC football co-champions and finishes 10-4.

    3. UH Wahine softball beat #1 ranked Alabama in the regionals, make it the College World Series, and break all time home run record.

    4. Waipio wins USA championship in Little League, finishes runner-up to Japan in the final.

    5. UH baseball wins WAC tournament title and play in the Regionals.

    5. Tie – UH selects Gib Arnold as new men’s baseketball coach and recruits 8 new players quickly, with 5 playing significant minutes (Joaquim, Thomas, Barnes, Wiseman, Miles).

    Top 5 Wishes for 2011.

    1. UH football – 14-0 includes any bowl game.

    2. UH basketball – win 20 games andplay in a postseason game whether it be the NIT or NCAA.

    3. Rainbow Wahine Softball – win the WAC, and win the College World Series

    4. Men’s volleyball – win the NCAA championship.

    5. Dave Shoji – get the monkey of his back, finally win a National Championship again, maybe with the help of new super freshman, Jane Croson.

    5. Tie-UH baseball – Win the WAC and make it to a Regional.

  108. SteveM December 28, 2010 10:10 am

After several months of blogging, Long Time UH Fan suddenly disappeared. We knew of his health problems and restrictions and feared the worse. Several of us tried to locate him (Al and Rasu Begasu) but we didn’t anything other than his blog name.

In desperation, I posted my email address for him to contact me. Fortunately he responded a few days later. He was away in San Francisco buying Chinese medication for his condition. He and Lorna cautiously agreed to meet with Al and I, and later attended Cattle Calls whenever he could.

This is what makes The Warrior Beat bloggers distinctive… they meet and we know real names. 🙂

  109. Stephen Tsai December 28, 2010 10:13 am

  115. A-House December 28, 2010 10:17 am

Interesting “travel sharing” article by Ferd Lewis this morning.

alos interesting that a MWC team coming to Hawaii for a game can have “up to 66 coaches, support staff, medical staff, media, etc.” That is more than half of the travel squad limited to 64 players. so if less than 130 individuals, UH can pay less?

good contract in that “travel sharing” will be reviewed every 2 years – could be a blessing to UH if they become the 800# gorilla of the conference!

so if MWC teams from the “mountain time zone” plays a game in the Pacific time zone, the home team in the Pacific time zone does not share in “travel expenses”? only if a team flies to Hawaii? guess, gotta do what you gotta do.

  120. Kazz December 28, 2010 10:22 am

My top 5 UH moments of the spring and fall 2010 seasons:

    1) Rainbow Wahine softball over #1 seeded Alabama

    2) UH invited to MWC and BWC

    3) Warrior football over then #21 Nevada

    4) 2010 Rainbow Classic Title

    5) WAC baseball title

  121. Old Diver December 28, 2010 10:23 am

I think I remember Jim Donovan saying the bottom line figure is the cost of joining the MWC and the BWC will be $300,000 per year after all expenses and revenues are added up compared to staying in the WAC. That assumption was based on attendance remaining the same if we stayed in the WAC.

  122. Kazz December 28, 2010 10:25 am

    Top 5 WISHES for 2011:

    1) Double digit win season for UH football.

    2) At least TWO national television wins for UH football. One during the regular season and one for the Hawaii Bowl.

    3) WAC softball and WCWS championship.

    4) WAC baseball championship.

    5) MPSF men’s volleyball championship

Without Aloha Airlines and the 737 size planes based in Hawaii, it’s too expensive to send over a plane to pick up the team. Maybe now with Alaska and United/Continental flying the 737 over, they can work out a deal for UH?? Fly a special flight with passengers to Hawaii, let UH charter to/from the mainland, then they can fly that plane back to the mainland with passengers??

I guess we don’t have much choice, but don’t the MWC schools pay for air travel to the other conference opponent cities within the continent?? Why are we paying for the entire airfare to play in Hawaii?? Ah, whatever, I am sure JD worked the numbers for the BIG PICTURE.

    jojo = martinis and clubbing (dance kine)…. 🙂 😀 😆

  156. madeinhawaii December 28, 2010 11:34 am

How much will UH get from the MWC each year vs how much they were getting from the WAC?

How about the Big West? Will they receive anything from there?

The part I didn’t understand was the Oceanic money… did they say that the PPV revenues were also going into the MWC pot?

Re #76: I happened to hear Coach McMackin say on the post game interview after the UNLV game – “We’re going to kick their butts.” He then went on to say “I hope this isn’t on.” Bobby Curran didn’t say anything, but Robert Kekaula simply laughed. My reaction was “here we go again”. UH coach inserts foot into mouth one more time, not to mention providing bulletin board stuff to motivate Tulsa.

  159. βρεω808 December 28, 2010 11:39 am

Stretch – I’ve been agreeing w/ you for several weeks already – if not longer (except for ‘boys)! B737-800 has 162-189 passenger capacity (depends on configuration) and has range to/from West Coast. Might have to make refuel stop for anything other than CA. Alaska, Continental already have them in their fleets. SW has plans in 2011-12.

Somebody – cut the deal! 🙄

I distinctly remember reading FloridaTed’s posts when I was lurker back then…we’ve said good-bye to too many good ones this year. RIP, Chris Gaines…42 is waaaaay too young. I also went to that NIT game against Long Beach State…it was awesome. I read Reardon’s column today…so sad.

  162. GRM December 28, 2010 11:47 am

  163. A-House December 28, 2010 11:49 am

Perhaps in the 2 year-review of “travel sharing cost”, it will be decided that it’s unfair to make UH pay all the cost of a “chartered flight” for schools in the Mountain time zone since they already “assume” that expense and charge only for the portion from the West Coast to Hawaii. Some may argue that it’s like the “continuation play” that results in a TD.

It won’t happen until 2014. Hopefully, UH will build up enough “stats” favorable to their argument that travel cost sharing can/must be reduced or eliminated – it all depends on how you make the presentation/arguments ( increased attendance, increased TV viewer ship for UH games, etc. ) a plan must be in place to record all this informaiton – perhaps lessons can be taken from certain attorneys perceived to be very good in presenting evidence at trail.

  164. F. Coe Bumgarner December 28, 2010 11:57 am

Whether booing players or video- it was a classless gesture-and a few more Tulsa TD’s wouldn’t have hurt to shut up lack of respect for Tulsa by local media, players, coaches and ESPN! Call down the Hurricane from the sky! Hope Pilares recovers completely! Gold, blue and red, down the field to VICTORY! Boo, boo to Hawaii U!

  165. Stretch December 28, 2010 11:59 am

MIH – I don’t think there can be PPV money since the MWC has their own tv contracts. Even if UH stayed in the WAC, ESPN was mentioning that they intended to show more UH games which would have taken away from PPV. The PPV money would have been minimal.

  166. F. Coe Bumgarner December 28, 2010 11:59 am

    boo, boo to Hawaii U!

  173. iwonderwhytheyhateme December 28, 2010 12:30 pm

when it comes to tulsa, i take the mike leach approach to most teams we play.

“if they go out and win the rest of ’em thats great, if they lose all the rest of them thats great…”

i suppose they should be ranked, but either way i could really care less where they are, where they are going, and where they have been.

    i’m a bitter old rooster. =P haha

  174. iwonderwhytheyhateme December 28, 2010 12:33 pm

    #164, A-house

I agree…right now we don’t have any leverage to be calling the shots. we eat whatever it is they are willing to feed us.

If for whatever reason Boise St. gets picked up by another conference etc or whatever and Hawaii does really well picking up several top 25 rankings, bowl WINS etc…we might be in a position to negotiate something that is better for Hawaii…

for now we should just be grateful that we got into the MWC…it could have been worse.

  175. Kazz_DROID.X December 28, 2010 12:34 pm

    #106,

Same meaning for those who write, one snap and clear. It’s up to the individual on how they move forward. What I’m saying is stop crying over the spilled milk, water under the bridge, and whatever idiom is apropos.

  183. Derek December 28, 2010 1:28 pm

My two cents. When I look at things I try to take a common sense approach. I did take Logic in college!!! I also have learned that logic doesn’t always equate to common sense. The most recent blatant example of this is the BCS. What a joke. Anyway, as it pertains to travel subsidies for MWC and Big West teams to come to Hawaii, wouldn’t it be reasonable to pay for the portain that costs over the “water” meaning the other mainland schools pay a portion of the trip from their city to the West Coast. It would be easy to figure out, wouldn’t it. Maybe it is to logical, but that’s how I look at it.

  184. RupertDaStupert December 28, 2010 1:28 pm

Being a lurker, I did not know Florida Ted passed away. Saw him all over the post. Did not know him but will miss him. And Chris Gaines. Seems like only yesterday. Tall, lean and graceful somewhat reminding me of Tom Henderson. Shows you our time to go can happen anytime. So when our UH teams lose, don’t be too harsh on them. It’s only a game. LIFE goes on. But when our time comes, naddah—-ashes to ashes. One day at a time—and be grateful for every extra day we get.

  185. diehard fan December 28, 2010 1:32 pm

How come we have to pay for a charter flight of 130 people, when the travel squad is limited to 64 players ? There can’t be that many “coaches, support staff, broadcasters and officials” ?

or is that the cost of a charter plane ?

Why is Ferd writing about something we’ve known about for weeks ?

  188. Garret December 28, 2010 1:54 pm

The Ravens lost their long-snapper for the season, so Jake Ingram has to battle with Ethan Albright for the long-snapper job. The winner will be long-snapping in the playoffs soon and have a chance to establish his career with the team…the other guy probably won’t play the rest of the season. So, this is a BIG day for Ingram.

The Baltimore Ravens are auditioning veteran long snappers Ethan Albright and Jake Ingram today, according to league sources with knowledge of the situation.

Albright is a former Redskins long snapper and Ingram was with the New England Patriots previously.

Ingram was released earlier this year when the Patriots signed former Ravens long snapper Matt Katula.

Now, he might have an opportunity to join the Ravens with rookie long snapper Morgan Cox out for the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a third-degree medial colleteral ligament sprain.

Yes I was saddened to hear of the passing of Florida Ted. That dude had class. I’ve never met the majority of folks who post here (I’m much more impressive in Cyberspace) yet I consider the posters here friends.

We all got our opinions, but we all cheer for UH.

I especially like Rainbow Cliff. What a positive person. Even though I think UH went 1-26 during one of Cliff’s years, he was always a hustler.

In fact I remember some battles with Gary Newsome, Cliff’s running mate, at Klum Gym back in the day. Charlie Williams ran the games, first team to seven buckets wins.

I know some folks gave Cliff a hard time for his grammar and stuff. That crap is so minor. I’m just glad to hear what he has to say and want to tell him I still remember him after all these years.

    Happy Holidays all.

Maryland tried to show JJ the money, but he turned them down.

Comcast SportsNet first reported earlier today that Jones had met with Maryland about the opening. Former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach is believed to be in the running.

Jones informed SMU athletic director Steve Orsini and president R. Gerald Turner this morning that he wanted to stay at SMU, despite Maryland’s willingness to pay, with incentives, around $3.5 million, according to two sources close to the SMU program, an eye-popping increase from the $2 million Jones already makes annually at SMU.

While an exercise program over the next 9 (or 10) months isn’t going to be aimed at getting a 6-pack, those core (a.k.a abdominal) muscles will still need some attention. Read more on this here…

If you charter a plane, does it matter how many people fly in it? Unless they serve free dinner and drinks, I think a chartered plane is a chartered plane. Size of a plane may vary so maybe the limit is 130.

Is everybody forgetting about the $50 student fee to be added to the athletic department. Maybe that will make up for all this travel money.

#197 Manoa Mist: MAHALO sir for your kind thoughts and remarks. I am just an OLD Rainbow Warrior that enjoyed my stay with you good folks while wearing the Hawaii basketball uniform. I LOVE playing the game and I was taught to play HARD and give it all you got. Playing for UH was TOUGH during my time as probation, being Independent, the quarry and the bungalows was all we had BUT it was still FUN with GREAT memories of players and coaches during that golden era !

1-26 was definetly no picnic in the park. So many things happen before the season started with Ed Torres not coming back and John Moore our second leading scorer flunking out before the season began. Brian Austin and Jeep Kelly quit on us during the season and we played the TOUGHEST schedule in Division 1 basketball that year. We tried EVERYNIGHT to get over the hump but mix line ups every night, no height on the front line and lack of good coaching to see us through. The last game vs. Santa Clara I developed tendinitis in both knees and played in pain my last 3 years. Playing time was diminish as I finish career on the bench and watch my last game as a senior captain in my warm ups at the very end of the chair. I remember coming out for senior INTRODUCTIONS and the Hawaii fans gave me a 5 minute standing ovation as I cried with so much shame of my career ending like this I VOWED that moment when ever I become something in LIFE I will come back and give so much ALOHA to the people of Hawaii who gave me so much MORE !

That is why I have so much COMPASSION for you good folks as during my 5 years to complete 4 regardless of my non existance playing basketball the RESPECT and LOVE that I receive during those impressionable young years will NEVER be forgotten. Klum gym was very exciting and “Chilly Willy” was something else as he, Boyd Batts and Johnny Walker were some CRAZY good guys !

Gary Newsome my room mate and team mate is a pastor and he has started a ministry in Virginia with his Hawaiian wife who he has been married too for 24 years. A GREAT guy who always had class and respect for people. As for my writing skills I do my very best. I never claim to be a pulitzer writer as I write from my HEART as in reality I was REALLY bad years ago with mispelled words, run on sentences and poor punctuation. Got decent over the years as I just really try to communicate with these TWO fond words I always use “THANK YOU” as I truly mean it from the bottom of my heart !

Mahalo for the kind words and would LOVE to meet you one day and treat you to lunch. You go way back with me and that is a truly a wonderful time and I am ALWAYS happy to find some one who experience that time with me !

Manoa Mist “THANK YOU” for your GREATNESS !

Don’t get me wrong, I like that we are in the Big West on one hand and the MWC on the other. I’m just confused as to the total money pie…

700K goes to MWC for football airfaire… 500K to the Big West… I think I read somewhere that the 2.6 million in current TV/PPV dollars gets surrendered to the MWC? does a % go to the BWC? … So it looks like we give up 3.8 million… Am I wrong?

What will we get back in return from the BWC and the MWC each year if none of the teams get into a BCS bowl?

    http://www.nawahine.com/vol1issue5.html

In this issue, we have had the pleasure of being in contact with former 2005 NCAA Woman of the Year and a former All-WAC 1st team selection in Tracie Uchima, or should I say, Dr. Tracie Uchima.

She describes the challenges she experienced as a student-athlete at the University of Hawai’i.

Dr. Uchima is a fine example of how these young men and women we cheer for eventually can move on from their field of athletics to serve our communities as model citizens.

Rodney Toyama, MAN that was one GREAT booster who gave so MUCH love to Rainbow Basketball as I knew him my whole career at UH !

Owned and operated Theo’s Restarant downtown as MANY of my basketball fraternity

during and after my time would of STARVED if it wasn’t for the hospitality and care that Rodney Toyama gave to the basketball program. When I received the Kane Fernandez Community Service Award in 2006 from the LWC I saw Rodney who was there at the ceremony visiting from his home in Seattle. I had no idea he would be there as we embrace with fond memories as we took a picture together holding the plaque. Rodney and Art Woolaway were GIANT supporters to the basketball program as both paid PERSONALLY from their own pockets for Reggie Carter and Joe Frazier to fly home because of death in their families.

Hawaii boosters has changed DRAMATICALLY over the years BUT during the golden era the Athletic program had a select few boosters who gave their ALL to Hawaii athletics as Rodney Toyama was definetly a MAJOR supporter to Rainbow Basketball !

    RIP Forever !

i like it when you posted those numbers regarding how many local kids are in the nfl and our at least got looks that came from the “obsure campus” of the university of hawaii.

we all know the polynesian players are a huge get by the nfl. so do you think that they will look first elsewhere or here in hawaii? go figure?

we all know who the projected nfl’ers are in this year’s class.

next year there are several top notch candidates coming out of our backyard…

Mike Leach to Maryland sounds good to me. It will surely help to bump that program up and maybe make the Big Least a little more competitive.

For all the junk that Leach has been through, he is a coach that knows how to win, never makes excuses, and cracks the whip when he needs to.

It was just a matter of time before some school showed interest in him.

His offense is also very similar to the Run ‘n Shoot…I guess Maryland wants to see a high flying offense.

    Hey Mack…watch the vid.

  254. Curt December 28, 2010 8:40 pm

I’m very disappointed with the travel “sharing” issue. I call it travel extortion…it’s more descriptive of what’s going on. I don’t see any sharing going on. The MWC is just taking advantage of our difficult situation to extort $ because we don’t have much of a choice.

  255. Curt December 28, 2010 8:50 pm

Lets say the airfare from LA to HNL is $500. If we cover the fare for 64 players plus 16 others, the cost would be $40,000. Why in the world are we paying $150,000 to $175,000?

  256. Curt December 28, 2010 8:59 pm

Question: Do the current MWC members charter their flights for football travel?

  257. brian December 28, 2010 9:02 pm

    MIH

We need to look at the bottom line and not get caught up with particular items in the equation. JD has said in the past that the move to the MWC and the BWC conferences will cost us about $300,000 total per year. This is assuming there would have been no drop off in attendance if we stayed in the WAC. If a significant loss in attendance occured if we stayed in the WAC the $300,000 cost to make the move would be less. Best case scenario is If the MWC gets AQ status then our overall revenue would improve. Worse case scenario is we stay in the WAC, the WAC falls apart, we lose football and the athletic department shrinks into irrelevancy.

  259. brian December 28, 2010 9:04 pm

    Curt,

Charter flights was the price of admission, it was a take it or leave it situation. Staying in the WAC was not an option and the MWC knew it. In the end I believe JD and the rest of the leadership at UH feel revenues in the long run will increase with MWC membership and would fall if we stayed in the WAC. When the building is on fire one can’t be particular as to whom puts out the fire. Moving to the MWC was a matter of survival.

  263. Curt December 28, 2010 9:12 pm

    Old Diver,

No doubt about the bottom line. We want in and we’re willing to pay a steep price for it. I’m not happy that the other MWC members are more than willing to take advantage of us like this.

It was distressing to hear that summa da players felt “they” didn’t have a good practice [before the Hawaii bowl]. practice? practices??

not really sure why a player thought “they” felt they didn’t have a good practice. was it because not all of the ‘best’ players were practicing? grades? i guess mental reps don’t cut it. just trying to put my finger on what specifically to suggest to Coach as a suggested change, is all.

whatever the reason, the team’s gotta better prepare for next year, is all. no doubt the players love coach. but it is also true that we were missing the disciplinarian. sure don’t like giving bleacherreportdotcom the opportunity to poke fun at us, like they did, diagnosing UH Warriors as suffering from Amnesia. that was a low blow.

I do miss my late night conversations with LTUHFan, all around good guy.

I remember when he went awol from the blog, knowing about his COPD,

I assumed the worst, turned out he was in SF Chinatown buying herbs for his illness.

Never made good on my promise on taking him to Rainbow drive inn for the BBQ mix..sigh.

    .

And what a surprise on finding out that F Ted was German, such a great command of the English language for a foreign born merchant marine.

    .

I also sometimes wonder about the old posters who no longer are around, did they get bored? get sick? move away?

Spam and Eggs from Molokai comes to mind

  279. Rasu Begasu December 28, 2010 10:48 pm

After the fiasco on X’Mas eve, I have not paid all that much attention to the football program so I am still left wondering why the two most important O lineman (blind side) missed the game as did a starting wideout.

In this day and age of special tutors and compliance officers, how does that happen?

  280. Rasu Begasu December 28, 2010 10:56 pm

    Time to cheer myself up.

    .

    Dear Child,

I am writing this slow because I know that you can’t read fast.

We don’t live where we did when you left home.

Your dad read in the paper that most accidents happen within 20 miles from your home so we moved.

I won’t be able to send you the address, as the last family that lived here took the house numbers when they left so that they wouldn’t have to change their address.

This place is real nice. It even has a washing machine. I’m not sure if it works too well though, last week I put a load in, pulled the chain, and haven’t seen them since.

The weather isn’t too bad here., it only rained twice last week, The first time it rained for three days and the second time for four days.

The coat you wanted me to send you, your Uncle Steve said it would be a little too heavy to send in the mail with the buttons on, so we cut them off and put them in the pockets.

John locked his keys in the car yesterday. We were worried because it took him two hours to get me and dad out.

Your sister had a baby this morning but I haven’t found out what it is yet, so I don’t know if you’re an aunt or an uncle. If the baby is a girl, your sister is going to name it after me, she’s going to call it Mom.

Uncle Pete fell in a whiskey vat last week. Some man tried to pull him out but he fought them off and drowned. We had him cremated and he burned for three days.

Three of your friends went off a bridge in a pick-up truck. Ralph was driving. He rolled down the window and swam to safety. Your other two friends were in the back. They drowned because they couldn’t get the tailgate down.

PS, I was going to send you some money but the envelope was already sealed.

  281. cocobean December 28, 2010 10:56 pm

Hope the team can maintain or increase number of players participating in off season workouts. It’s been said many times before that this year’s numbers were the highest ever. I feel this was an important factor in winning 10 games.

The high number of participation reflects on one of Mack’s strong points, the players play for him.

He deserves an extention. The years and $$$ should be worked out after an honest evaluation of his three year performance. The last thing we need going into the MWC is instability at the head coaching position.

For all of you who voted( I didn’t) for Mack as coach of the year. Step up and voice your support for an extention. Just leave the details to Mack and Donovan.

  282. Rasu Begasu December 28, 2010 11:02 pm

    Lawyer in Hilo.

    .

This lawyer grew up in a Hilo, then moved away to attend college and law school. He decided to come back to Hilo because he could be a big man in this small town. He really wanted to impress everyone. He opened his new law office, but business was very slow at first. One day, he saw a man coming up the sidewalk. He decided to make a big impression on this new client when he arrived.

As the man came to the door, the lawyer picked up the phone. He motioned the man in, all the while talking..

“No. Absolutely not. You tell those clowns in Honolulu that I won’t settle this case for less than one million..”

“Yes. The Appeals Court has agreed to hear that case next week. I’ll be handling the primary argument and the other members of my team will provide support..”

“Okay. Tell the DA that I’ll meet with him next week to discuss the details..”

This sort of thing went on for almost 5 minutes. All the while the man sat patiently as the Lawyer rattled instructions. Finally, Joe put down the phone and turned to the man. “I’m sorry for the delay, but as you can see, I’m very busy.

What can I do for you?”

The man replied “I’m from the phone company..I came to hook up your phone.”

Watch this vid of Mike Leach addressing his team in the locker room.

I want some honest opinions of what people think about this…

If you can get past the swear words, listen to what he is trying to convey to the team…

IMO, this the kind of attitude we need in a HC…the fire and drive and willingness to “bust skulls” and take on both players and coaches to change the mentality.

    WARNING: EXPLICIT LANGUAGE

  287. al December 29, 2010 12:48 am

iwonderwhy…personally, i don’t think that kind of foul language is necessary in society as a whole. wherher it be in the football locker room or at the neighborhood bar, is it necessary?

if that is the only way one thinks that he can get his message across, then, i feel sorry for that person whether he is a fotball coach or what have you.

anyway, last time i checked, mike leach is no longer a coach.

    al,

nope not a coach right now…but in the running for the Maryland job. Man hasn’t had a losing season at TTech…The record stands for itself. His offense is also very close to what we do here at UH.

People like Leach do not go without a coaching job for very long…the passion and drive you see is something that you find in coaches like Peterson, Meyer, Riley, Kelly, Muschamp, etc.

As for the foul language, it may not make it, but it doesn’t break it for me either…

Go beyond the foul language and what is the message he is conveying? Love the urgency in his voice? Does it seem like he is gripping the throats of every player and coach in that room, telling them to wake the heck up or get the heck out?

French words or not, this guy is the captain of that ship…you can almost feel it.

my point? well, at the very least it makes for good entertainment haha.

    Good morning Tsaiko Nation !

Rains are back here again as we angelinos buckle down for cover. The homes in the mountain areas have been preparing to avoid any further damages as sand bags and

bull dozes build protective barriers so mud slides won’t become a factor to home owners

being devastated. Hopefully this time there is no TRAGIC news !

Congrats to Wassupdoc on winning the polo green. I read her posts all the time and know the IMPORTANT role she plays lobbying with Hawaiian politicians for upper and lower campus. She also has been through some TOUGH times this year with purse and car BUT like the old saying goes “good things comes to thoughs who waits” as this gift is certainly DESERVING !

Looking forward to hearing from her !

I also have read how sailor blue works so hard for you good folks in preparing Tsaiko calf calls tail gate areas. I was MOVED by certain bloggers who would of given the shirt IF they won to him for his LOYAL efforts. Well good folks such deeds should not go un notice as I visit today Styles of Hawaii in which my gal Linda Uyeda will be giving me a WONDERFUL UH apparel and that will go to sailor blue from the both of us in HONOR of you good folks who admire his love and dedication for some good eating grinds. All I need to know before I leave is his size a truly xl as Styles of Hawaii has all sizes and I want to be accurate ?

If any of you are up this morning and can get back with that info I will GREATLY appreciate. Sailor Blue is going to get a “FIRST CLASS” apparel as Styles Of Hawaii don’t play when it comes to Hawaii clothing as my closet is FULL of her exquiste taste !

ALWAYS a pleasure to give too Tsaiko Nation as you folks have given me so much more !

Have a SUPER morning as I get ready to share your ALOHA though out this rainy day in Los Angeles !

That said, “Kinsey” doesn’t seem to advocate total permissiveness. Even Dr. “Don’t be judgmental” Kinsey and one of his assistants strive to maintain objectivity when interviewing Kenneth Braun, a subject they’ve courted for a decade because of his meticulous cataloguing of his sexual history. Braun, was, apparently, a major source of data for Kinsey.

If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.

  430. chanel costume jewelry January 16, 2011 10:56 pm

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

  448. gucci shoes January 18, 2011 2:08 am

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

Many people don’t understand the effects misleading effects. I knew what you meant. It can be more effective to give people little opinion with facts here. I recognize this problem but with little clue, so we must face the topic together. With new assurance, we hope that the skill of other categories can be found together. Nice people can work with great people, and great resource is important for us in analyzing the case. I’ve studied for more than 4 years to analyze them, but the fact still can’t be discovered. In order to do that, we must deal with the changes of management resources. With so many resources here, we can develop new ideas for solving to problem. Let’s give opinion, let’s discuss them, we can take charge with our resources. The last one but not least, I support your analyzes to face new one. With many resources that we can collect, all of them can be handled well.

After I read page by page, I found the significant thing for my initial idea, great article in your webpage, I discover many missing file and data in my book guidance, but you gave me the several options. I am postgraduate college and want to finish my subject; it is hard task (for me). I spent over 2 weeks, just browsing and finding this nice article.

The purpose of your website can be great for my students. A lot of great resources are free in here. Initially, I have introduced your website to my students in my class, so don’t be confused if your website hits are increase dramatically. I discuss many topics, still debating in every aspect that can be debated, and at the end of my class (every week), I told them about the conclusion of your topic. Hot topic and atmosphere can be fun here. And then, you might be surprised that my students got new story every day, and also all of them can express their idea in home and school. Especially they told to her/his mom/dad, that they learnt many topics from teacher that learnt from you. Surprisingly that everyone wants to get new challenge in your idea, and then when I give new topic, it can be challenging for all of my students.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.

exciting overview of logos, but, more exciting comments. identities are usually not made by logos alone, but by their place inside a bigger set of collateral. no logo is an island and none will need to be completely judged in isolation from the way they may be applied.
