Christopher Chun, the new executive director of the Hawaii High School Athletic Association, is today’s guest on the Warrior Beat Show, which begins at about noon.

Chun will answer questions posed here and on the show’s Cover It Live Section.

For years, there was talk of revising the way the men’s volleyball team does business. Suggestions included lower ticket prices and all general-admission seating.

Because of the tsunami warning Sunday led to the postponing of a volleyball match until yesterday, UH got its wish. Tickets were priced at $8 and $3, and seats were available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The result was that the regulars sat where they usually sit. The aunties were in the end-line section. Because the team benches were on the opposite side, some regulars sat behind the benches; some were in their usual booster section. There were some who even sat in the upper level.

The disappointment was the low student turnout.

Then again, the event was announced late, and the match was played on a Monday night.

I think the experiment deserves at least one more chance.

Word on the street is that Colt Brennan, schedule permitting, will be back in town to help out with a clinic this weekend.

ST ~ I was going to the game until I found out that Rob25, jmxxxx, A-Joe, Kazz, and even keed sat in the area I wanted.

No, seriously. That promotion would work if given the opportunity. Also, there is a desperate need to get these guys more *face* time in public.

Schedule autograph signing and photo ops for kids inside old Glum gym. Imagine a kid the size of Homey standing between those long tall dudes.

Or…have them set up a signing table at the Les next to the Rainbowtique stand. The fans need to get next to them to really Get Next To Them!. Show them, and they will come.

  12. Stretch March 2, 2010 7:27 am

Even though the announcement was made late, I thought there would have been a more people at the game. Only 1,000 for a game against BYU?? Was a great game last night. I had a lot of fun talking with those BYU guys. I think the BYU players made the crowd cheer harder and louder with their actions.

  21. Garret March 2, 2010 8:13 am

Article about how they are planning for Aloha Stadium to be used for at least the next 20 years.

Work currently is under way on two capital improvement projects totaling more than $25 million.

One involves replacing the stadium’s upper roof in the L-S and LL-QQ sections, work that should be finished by July. Visitors to the swap meet and drivers-by already have noticed the new dark-green paint job.

They also may have seen a giant silver tarp hanging on the stadium’s mauka or Halawa side this week, helping shield paint recoating and waterproofing.

On the makai or Pearl Harbor side, meanwhile, a giant crane was being used to install scaffolding.

The roofing work, to be finished in July 2011, is part of a second CIP task on structural and health and safety projects.

Repairs also are under way on five “orange” seat sections, from LL to QQ and FF to KK, and the patching of cracks in asphalt and concrete walkways.

If the Aloha Stadium Authority is able to secure all the funding it wants between now and 2016 — well over $200 million, at last count — the stadium could remain a viable sports facility.

“The work we’ve planned should make it last at minimum another 20 years,” said Ming-Yang Tan, stadium engineer.

Funding, of course, is no guarantee. Like almost every government agency, the Aloha Stadium Authority, the stadium’s governing body, is being asked to do more with less as lawmakers debate tax increases to meet a billion-dollar budget shortfall.

  22. Kazz March 2, 2010 8:14 am

Why does the Big City Diner commercial say to bring your “softball ticket stub” for a discount off your meal?

I’ve used the BCD discount with a UH ticket stub before, but WHAT softball ticket stub??? 😯

  23. Garret March 2, 2010 8:14 am

Note that the new LED screen and the TVs with ads throughout the stadium will make money for the Aloha Stadium Authority…not UH.

Perhaps the most visible will be a new LED screen that will replace the JumboTron in time for August games.

But this project will not cost taxpayers. The stadium has a 10-year contract with CBS Collegiate Sports Properties to sell advertising and partnership platforms.

CBS Collegiate Sports Properties is a division of CBS Outdoor Group (part of CBS television) and is doing business locally as Aloha Sports Properties.

Garrick Dorn, the company’s west regional sales manager in Scottsdale, Ariz., said CBS Collegiate has similar contracts with other sports facilities such as Louisiana State University and the Air Force Academy.

Last year, CBS Collegiate installed 80 new flat-screen TVs throughout Aloha Stadium, in concession and hospitality areas and outside the ticket office. Serving as an in-house video feed, the screens show the games on the field. They are funded by corporate clients such as Bank of Hawaii, Geico, Heineken and Pepsi.

Dorn said similar corporate sponsorships, possibly local, will support the 60-foot-by-19-foot screen that will be called Aloha Vision. He declined to provide the cost of the screen, but said it will be “state of the art.”

    Aloha Kakahiaka!

ST ~ My Mom said that the information about the replay of the MVB game was buried in the HA Sports section. The info really should have been on the first page of the Sports section and in LARGE type to advertise the re-scheduling of that game.

  26. jm2375 March 2, 2010 8:18 am

    Good morning Tsai-kos!

Had lots of fun last night.

Can they at least set up a spot where kids can get autographs and pictures after the game? The girls have been having to “chase” the players down for pictures and autographs. Last night they were too shy and Umlauft was busy talking to someone else.

Stretch and A-joe did a lot of talking to the BYU players last night. 😆

  27. mctruck March 2, 2010 8:21 am

I want that baby back, baby back-ribs!!!, with potato salad….pleeeezzz.

  28. Kazz March 2, 2010 8:24 am

Aloha Stadium is indeed a “State of the Art” facility.

The art is circa 1975 though.

  29. Kazz March 2, 2010 8:30 am

    Christopher Chun,

Last year the SOS FUND was a big hit in the sense that there was a lot of support from individuals and businesses.

How problematic will it be for this to be an annual source of funds for the HHSAA considering the current economy?

Still haven’t gotten my pc working 100%…Betty goes in an steals my daughter’s laptop while she’s sleeping so I can catch up to the blog and email! Microsoft spent almost one whole morning via remote setup working on it and couldn’t fix it. No virus, just corrupted system files that couldn’t be fixed. The guy tried everything in his tool kit while I watched for hours. Seemed like a magic show with the pc operating itself (it seemed). My cell had to be plugged in cuz the battery was running low as he gave me a running commentary all the while.

Didn’t quite understand the idea of backup before…now I do! Thought it was for older pc’s that might breakdown. Listen folks! When you get your pc and get it to where you want with all the software you want, back it up! I didn’t realize that all the newer pc’s have built in applications to do that. I bought a 320 gb external drive at Costco for cheap and will use it as a repository for my backup when everything is good again. I’m backing up everything to include the operating system. As I understand it, the backup software checks at intervals and copies any files that have changed.

Please don’t be like me and be the ostrich in the sand. After I reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled the operating system, it was so hard to reinstall all the programs. So many things had to be reconfigured to match what I had before…like email, anti-virus, browsers…plenny! My wireless adapter refused to recognize its drivers even when I dangled them in front of its face. Physically opened up the pc case and removed/installed the card a half dozen times. I had searched the internet for hours for the Windows 7 64-bit drivers (well known manufacturer’s site didn’t have them). After a day of wrestling with it (desperate for internet access) and needing to return my daughter’s pc, I removed the $60 piece of junk and used a $10 cheapie from an old broken pc. Of course it works!

  32. al March 2, 2010 8:38 am

    on a rather curious note…

shouldn’t the assistant coach and director of player personnel vacancies have been filled by now?

again prolonging the decision stirs the pot even further.

is there a road block somewhere?
    a chink in the armor?

    just wondering aloud.

  36. Rob25 March 2, 2010 9:09 am

    Robby…you suck!!

Those words will resonate in my head for some time. BYU surely didn’t help themselves by getting arrogant and one player pulling up on his shorts…well, let’s just say he instigated fan taunting to a NEW level. PowderPuff indeed needed to be exorcised and Stretch had a soulmate right across the aisle from him!! I thought that Alan Hackbarth might need to be restrained, but nahhhh, let him loose on those BYwho? guys…they sked.

A-joe, you think that they understand?

It was a great night to be at the game and we saw Vili Nauahi at Zippy’s afterwards too.

  37. d1島 March 2, 2010 9:19 am

BTW, the girls said Stretch, A-joe, PP, Rob were very cool and can we sit behind them again?

Stretch — Most Tsai-kos lived through the years of the great BYU rivalry…especially in football. But I just realized that most UH students today were not born yet or were less than 5 years old. BYwho? You old. 😆

  49. Jack Flash March 2, 2010 10:06 am

Paka- great video. Anyone remember that happy feeling a couple seasons ago?!?!

  50. Stretch March 2, 2010 10:17 am

  54. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc March 2, 2010 10:28 am

Last night was the first time we’d ever sat within ‘howdy distance” of other Tsai-ko regulars in the Stan Sheriff Center. They’d moved into our new regular seats by the time I arrived at 5:30 pm because 1) it was open seating and 2) they wanted to be on the same side of the court as the teams who’d also moved from their regular side of the Center. We wound up sitting behind the Tsai-kos a couple of rows further upin the stands.

During basketball games they sit opposite the teams behind the K-5 crew and the arena announcers.

Although we didn’t sit with the group, it was interesting to watch and listen to their interchanges with the BYU team. I wonder what it must be like to hear them at the Bowsball games yelling behind home plate. We sit upstairs on the third base side.

Speaking of baseball, this week’s schedule is really a weird one with a Friday afternoon/early evening doubleheader starting at 3:35 pm which conflicts with the softball doubleheader across the street starting at 4 pm. I’ll probably listen to the first baseball game on the radio and go to the first softball game and then meet up with DrDoc for the second baseball game which I expect will start around 6:30 pm.

Saturday’s game with Citadel starts at 1:05 pm while the softball team plays a doubleheader starting at 4 pm. Another day in the quarry!

Lots of good news on the public policy front. Will report that later.

  55. Manoa Mist March 2, 2010 10:29 am

That’s a nice video, even though it’s SMU. Anybody got the digits for the guy in the bikini top?

  56. BG March 2, 2010 10:30 am

    Mr Chun

HHSAA’s growth has been incredibly beneficial for Hawaii’s youth. What do you keep in mind as key thoughts for fund raising during your stint as the head guy?

  57. al March 2, 2010 10:32 am

    mean the video.
i keep thinking that we should have been playing opposite of smu. that would have rocked the rust off the aloha stadium.

  58. Kekoa March 2, 2010 10:38 am

We need more BYU games scheduled for all the UH Sports teams. This rivalry needs to resume.

  60. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc March 2, 2010 10:44 am

    Garret:

I sat in on the CBS Collegiate Sports presentation at a recent Aloha Stadium Authority meeting. The screen will be very different from what fans are used to seeing.

Another reason why UH needs to take ownership of the Aloha Staidum. Remember, they get zippo de nada from all the peripheral income.

FYI: $53,280,000 has already be appropriated for Aloha Stadium repairs and another $12,000,000 is in the Governor’s version of the FY10-11 budget which starts through the legislative process tomorrow, Wednesday, March 3. I am still trying to find out how much money already allocated has actually beem released by the Governor.

An additional $125,000,000 + or – is expected to be appropriated over the next five to seven years to accompany the proposed transit-oriented development projects – assuming the mass transit system is not killed.

Even if it gets cancelled, I believe that the surrounding area will be developed into a multi-use urban neighborhood; however, by the time that happens, you’ll be a tutu kane playing Go at a local park while keeping an eye out for the grandkids..

  61. Rob25 March 2, 2010 10:51 am

Oh no Steve din’t….did I just see him calling me old because I said BYwho??

    Hmmmm!

  62. Ralph March 2, 2010 10:51 am

Taylor Mays, USC, ran a 4.43 40 at the 2010 NFL combine and he came in weighing 220 at 6’3. Another Ronnie Lott. Shays say Eric Berry, Tennessee, is rated higher than Mays, although Mays out ran Berry. I’ll take Mays, I think his height and strength will help in the red zone, one hit, one stop.

  63. jm2375 March 2, 2010 10:55 am

Stretch – I think there’ll be a lead slippah heading your way (towards your bolo head)

  64. Kazz March 2, 2010 11:02 am

So, what have we learned about Wahine Softball this year after a rough home/season opener and a lengthy road trip completing the toughest tournament around in NCAA D1 softball?

Na Wahine are 9-6 with losses to the nation’s TOP programs in #2 Arizona, #13 Georgia Tech and sharing one loss and one win over then # 10 Stanford. They’ve dominated the wins they’ve gotten over teams they were expected to (wo)man-handle and started off their first away tournament with two wins against two undefeated programs in Utah and UNLV. So in essence, no real surprises there, even with the preseason expectations, the win against #10 Stanford was GREAT but not totally unexpected as Na Wahine have had a track record of upsetting highly ranked teams early in the season.

Pitching actually remains a mystery, well to a certain extent. Stephanie Ricketts had no choice last season to be “IT” and “IT” is what she became last year. Softball fans and even casual fans saw her mature into a presence and saw her get wins on her own effort at times last year when the batting was inconsistent. When Coolen signed Kaia Parnaby, the Wahine softball followers breathed a sigh of relief knowing that Ricketts was going to have some help, we all waited to see what Parnaby was going to be like and all the while, I think many were content on knowing Ricketts would pick up where she left off last year. So far, that doesn’t seem to be exactly the case.

Parnaby opened her individual “season” on FIRE and right off the bat I would say she’d end up along side teammate Kelly Majam as WAC Freshman of the Year 2010 candidates. As for Ricketts, no doubt, she still has the experience and the softball IQ to have started our biggest games against the toughest competition. At this point it’s mental I believe perhaps with both the fans and her or maybe just the fans… Expectations for an athlete gets high when they give us reason to have them. Ricketts has struggled a bit, and in “struggled” I mean in comparison to the pitching standard she created for herself last year. We’ve seen it before. Colt was untouchable in 2006 and little more “human” in 2007. Injuries and a busy off field schedule contributed so we know there are reasons behind a student athletes’ performance on the field from time to time. Without compiling or researching the stats, Ricketts already has already been walking more batters than one would be comfortable with and her ERA has almost doubled from last season’s ending 1.96 (approximate #).

Stephanie’s Ricketts’ success on the mound is indeed the key to the season. Pitching in baseball and in softball is key. Parnaby has been very good, but untested this early on, yes she started against #2 Arizona and lost, but to really be tested requires more opportunities for the longer term. Ricketts IS tested. Parnaby will be great for us as the season goes along for many seasons to come, but this team has the tools and the right amount of senior leadership combined with underclassmen contributors to make some noise in the WAC tournament and in post season play.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen the Wahine play and this weekend starts a massive string of home games until WAC play starts so we’ll get to see the difference in her game, as well as the play of the rest of the team from the opening home tourney.

Bob Coolen said that the opening loss and performance against McNeese was due to the team looking for answers amongst each other instead of the leaders leading by example. As a sophomore, Ricketts is a leader and still, in my opinion with MUCH respect to the rest of the team, the face of the program this year too.

Ricketts needs to be the one to say, “_ _ _ _ it, let’s GO!!!”.

    Yeah, no pressure huh? 😯

  65. Kazz March 2, 2010 11:05 am

    Kekoa,

For BYU men’s volleyball, they have NO choice.

After last night and the previous Friday, if they had a choice they’d NEVER come back.

You can thank, Stretch, Rob, A-Joe, and PowderPuff for that! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA!!!

  66. Kekoa March 2, 2010 11:17 am

Mr. Chun. Good to see you take the reins.

Q: What are the plans for expansion? The Leeward coast is growing. Will there be room for another High School?

Agreed. But can we rekindle the passion of such a rivalry with a “generation” gap? We were there…years of frustration ended by lopsided wins… c’mon score a 100 points, beat ’em by 65, that’s OK! It was lizard brain time. Never had that feeling again toward any other team…

SteveM your right but that’s where UH marketing needs to step up to the plate, an rekindle that feeling somehow.

  77. Pomai March 2, 2010 12:05 pm

Here is one idea for the BY-who rivalry, DVD made by RK with clips of all the games between UH an BYwho that he can find, showing the years of defeat, then the climbing of the mountain and UH standing on top Once and for all.

  78. A-House March 2, 2010 12:11 pm

Shout out and prayers to Ryan Mouton – believe in thy self – full and speedy recovery!

  79. A-House March 2, 2010 12:16 pm

    Pomai:

#77 – yea, that would be neat to suffer all those years, 10 to be exact, and come back and win the last 3 or 4 games played. Garret Gabriel will always be one of Mrs A-house’s most favorite UH QB – hmmm, did “Colty” move to #1?

We have UHS tapes of the games, but they are old and some are very moldy. Anyone know how to “rejuvinate” the tapes by getting rid of the moldy stuff? Midori7 wants to copy them to DVDs.

BYU and certain BIG 10 teams are much like professional golfers – always monkuing and giving excuses why they did not to well – turf, officiating, distractions of Waikiki, travel, etc.

Pro golfers must be, IMHO, the most “babied” group of professionals as they want the wind to go away, they say the greens are junk, they say the rough is too tall, and it goes on and on and on. Why can’t they play the course like many others who do not have the privilege of having the course closed and prepped for the tour event. Ever notice how fairway divots come out soft with lots of cusion below the ball. Try hitting them with the fairway rock solid.

Hey, what do I know, I only play golf once or twice a year.

Info in the H-Mail says the Bud Light Bullpen is still available for BaseBow games

and includes all of the amenities for a fun-filled group outing at the ballpark. Rental, which includes food and beverages, starts at $1,250 for a party of 20, but up to 50 people can be accommodated in the area

  87. PowderPuff March 2, 2010 12:59 pm

Yes, the turnout was low…but I thought pretty good despite it being a purely walk-up crowd on a Monday night. With few people in the arena, our voices were heard, especially by those COUGARS. Okay, so my “Beat BYU” towel is probably older than most UH students, but not BYU ones. 🙂 I am ready for the next showboat who wants to start pulling up his shorts and jumping up and down on a block. Give me a break…Kent!

Hopefully fans turn out in good #’s for the series. The Bulldogs are used to playing in a pretty big stadium that they claim is one of the loudest in the South.

Named for the longtime – and current – Charleston mayor who is a 1964 graduate of The Citadel, “The Joe” has seating for 6,000 in one of the most picturesque ballpark settings in the country.
Designed by HOK Sport, the same architecture firm that designed Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Coors Field in Denver, Jacobs Field in Cleveland, Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. and PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Riley Park is located on the banks of the Ashley River with a view of the Charleston Marina beyond the left-center field wall.

  120. anonymous March 2, 2010 4:24 pm

    Question.

So you ‘re the UH athletic director would you publically discuss with the media of what you expect from your coaches in their upcoming seasons and emphasize that if they don’t achieve certain criterias then their job status will be in danger? I hope not.

Personally I wouldn’t. I can’t see anything gained by doing this. Once quidelines and quotas are placed on your coaches the message interpreted is that you’re taking a stance.

My feeling is that this is great that the UH AD, Jim Donovan, is taking a stance. But in private. Not in public. Because once the AD lets his intentions be known publically, like the number of W’s he wanted his coaches to achieve, he has to follow through or else he loses respect.

Also I think once the AD goes public with what he wanted out of his coaches, with basically dictating and either or ultimatum, this puts a lot of pressure on the players, too.

    And there need not be.

Especially if the UH athletic director was thinking correctly. For he should have just kept the specifics between his coaches and himself. It would shed him a lot of grief of how he is running things, especially if it plays out, now, that Coach Nash gets a pass and Coach Trap doesn’t (with both coaches missing on the AD’s mandates on the W’s). Just watch.

Two things are going to happen. Either JD sticks to his dictatorship and coaches are fired for failing(esp. in how he made these proclamations to the media).–Which I doubt. Or the JD softens up and opens Pandora’s Box.–Which I think he will.

Anyway, be prepared of hearing an excuse coming from JD , especially when after he made these public mandates on his coaches and changed his mind after they failed …or gives one a pass and not the other…which to me will be an interpretation of him saving face. And being a screw up.

  127. Manoa Mist March 2, 2010 5:34 pm

Yeah, I’d have to agree with anonymous about keeping expectations between the AD and coaches private. But I think Donovan is entitled to a little more respect – he’s got a heck of job. High expectations from everyone and no money to do anything. Would you want that AD job?
JD is a decent, respectable person who’s between a rock and a hard spot. And he’s going to need to learn some things through experience – on the job training.
He needs to find a donor, somebody with big money, like the Oklahoma State guy or the Oregon guy.
Somebody who will come in and help support the program and give him the flexibility to make some moves.
Final thought: I think one of the reasons you join a conference is to play on a level playing field. If all the other WAC schools have student fees and get roughly 50 percent support from the school, UH should do the same.
You can’t expect miracles from Donovan when he’s got his hands tied behind his back.
    Peace out.

#121, didn’t Bob Nash guarantee 18 wins this year? All coaches should take in the inevitable, like injuries, suspensions, etc. before making those kind of guarantees. Maybe he shouldn’t have done that. I wish the MBB well and hope they win the WAC tournament, but, in reality, its not likely. Go Bows!

Yelling at Kent Tuttle of BYU was fun. Guys, he started pulling his shorts up and down near the leg portion of the shorts when he was in on a stuff block in the 3rd game last night. Don’t mind the showboating, but don’t be down 0-2 in the match as a visitor. Coach Wade wanted him carded – badly. Coach Wade was not happy with Kent’s dance with his shorts.

But the really funny part was when Ajoe and Stretch started yelling out the plays that BYU was calling behind their backs. They started yelling, “Play 1. Play 1.” And when they got stuffed, they started yelling, “Try another play.” Ahahaha! All in all, GREAT fun with Kazz, Rob25, Ajoe, Stretch and jm2375. Thanks, Rob!!! 🙂

Maybe an athletics surcharge for students? Charge a small fee, they come in for free at any of the paid events. Seats would have to be in a section that would be benefit our team, make general seating, and have a count limit. Whom ever come after the section(s) are full has to find open seats. Just a thought…

Hey, I thought Craig Stutzman as going to be an Assistant Coach for Receivers at Memphis State. Obviously the sportstalk host tonight thought the same thing, but Stutz corrected him by saying he was a G.A. there. What gives? Is it a temporary position until something opens up there?

  150. d1島 March 2, 2010 9:53 pm

    Kazz,

The show was only 30 minutes long; not sure why it was cut back from the originally planned hour.
About half of it was spent on a phone interview of Craig Stutzmann from Memphis. As protector said, he stated that his position there is actually a GA position working with the receivers.
They started off the show talking about the first two BaseBows’ series.
They are all newbies on the radio; hopefully they will get the chance to get better on future episodes.

See – wasn’t it good that there was general admission seating last night? Otherwise we would have been in two of the five seats seats occupied by the T-Hecklers so they would have had to move closer to the BUY team.

Old Diver: I’m tracking down the Aloha Stadium’s financial records to get the most accurate recent figures; however, the Stadium Authority has been in the seven-digit net profit region from what I’ve seen and heard for a very long time. Maybe in very good years even low eight-digit numbers.

Howwever, until there’s a new governor with vision and a Stadium Authority that gets it, transferring Aloha Stadium to UH will not happen any time soon.

I’ve now been referred to my fourth contact for the Budweiser Blue Tent in the Bullpen promotion. Hope to have the answers to several key questions by tomorrow night.

Will make a report here and then people can make a final decision as to what date, how much, and who’ll be responsible for all the organizational stuff such as reservations, collecting money, etc.

  171. Paka March 3, 2010 3:16 am

I don’t think we play Memphis next year. It’s a 2 year cycle. We played them in ’08. We didn’t play them in ’09 so we probably won’t play them in 2010. I think we have East Carolina on the road, and Marshall and UAB at home.

  172. Garret March 3, 2010 4:05 am

    Ralph,

Paka is correct that SMU does not play Memphis in 2010. Depending on the conference rotation they might have a home-and-home series in 2011/2012 or 2013/2014.

  173. Garret March 3, 2010 4:08 am

By the way, Paka isn’t the one who made that video that ST posted. A SMU fan named Thad made that video, which is part of a documentary he made about the SMU team last season. He started the documentary from the beginning of the season, so he sure had good timing as they had a winning season and bowl game after winning just 1 game each season for the previous 2 seasons.

  174. Garret March 3, 2010 4:10 am

Article about how the California State Universities are close to dropping down to D-II…with all the budget problems they have right now, SJSU, Fresno State, and other schools are really getting squeezed.

Our favorite CSU institutions are closer to Division II status than we think.

It didn’t seem like huge news when it was learned Northridge plans to cut its men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams. The steady whack-whack-whack of programs, like a lumberjack cutting down an acre redwood, has been an echo for too long.

UC Irvine dropped men’s rowing, men’s sailing and both swimming and diving teams last year. Cal State Bakersfield, a D-I newby, dumped men’s and women’s golf, women’s tennis and wrestling. Arizona State dumped men’s swimming, tennis and wrestling last year.

  175. Garret March 3, 2010 4:12 am

Dropping from D-IAA to D-II really changes how many women’s scholarships a school offers and only changes their men’s scholarship number slightly.

Long Beach State has seven men’s sports – basketball, baseball, volleyball, water polo, golf and track (which includes cross-country) – and LBSU gives out the maximum 51 scholarships available in those sports.

A CSU Division II men’s program, meanwhile, can allocate up to 44 scholarships in those same seven sports.

We’ll pause here while you shake your head.

There isn’t the same discrepancy in women’s sports, where Title IX mandates are in play. Long Beach State has 93 scholarships for its nine sports (add tennis and soccer to the men’s lineup), while, say, Cal State L.A. can offer 67.

    Re-The WB Show

Well that’s a first. No comments from any viewers of watching the show. Or thanking the guests for appearing on the show.

On other shows in the past there would be a few acknowledgments.

    Yesterday’s show none.

Also I noticed recently that the complaints of the video quality and choppiness “comments” outnumbered the acknowledgments.

Maybe this is sending out a message. And is related to lower viewership and poster’s acknowledgments of watching the show and thanking the guest for appearing.

It is for me. For it’s frustrating watching the video (even repeats). Nothing ever got done to fix the problem. So why bother, right?

Anyway, I don’t think it’s a coincidence that there weren’t any comments or acknowledgments following this past show.

  209. Cadillac Service Manuals March 31, 2010 9:31 pm

It is advantageous, then, to have a repair service manual for your car, whether it is a Bugatti Veyron or a Hillman Imp. Knowing what has gone wrong with the car, and whether you can run the repairs yourself, is helpful for so many reasons. A good service repair manual will make it easier to drive with confidence, knowing that you have all the information you need to make the repair job less stressful, and possibly less expensive.
