Mrs. C

“Howzit, gang!  I’m Mrs. C, or ColomaOhana to my online ohana.  I hail from da’ “mommies site” www.momsinhawaii.com, where my dear friend, Esme Infante Nii, is the host and Chief Executive Mom.

I was born and raised in Ewa Beach and now live very near to where I grew up. So when peoplewho know me and say stuff on here like, “Watch out, Mrs. C going get da’slippah” or “Uh oh…..da’ tita is here,”  you know why.

Even if you don’t know me yet or haven’t talked story online with me, it won’t be long before you realize that DIS’ is the way I talk.

Yeah, I know you’re thinking, “Why in the world did our REAL blog host, ST, ask me to be a guest blog host today??”  Honestly, I have no clue. I can definitely tell you that I love to talk story, love sports, enjoy engaging in an occasional “spiced up” or “heated” exchange of words, and can surely handle a lot.  Having seven kids ranging in ages from 2 years old to 14 years old has given me some big cajones.  Yes, you read thatright.  I said “seven.”

Okay.  So….let the games BEGIN!

What you guys like talk about?

fam

By the way, yes, those ARE my kids.  Oh, and as if my life wasn’t crazy enough, my husband got me that CUTE little puppy for my birthday in March.

  20. rage777 May 10, 2011 8:57 am

The puppy has to have some Lab in it. I had a Lab once, that dog had way too much energy.

  21. SteveM May 10, 2011 8:58 am

    Good morning everyone!

    Good morning Mrs. C !

I did a quick checklist to prepare for you last night…

    SteveM:

    May 9th, 2011 at 11:34 pm

    lessee… Colomaohana tomorrow…

    – riot helmet & face shield … check

    – body armor … check

    – thick socks … check

    – trapeze… check

    – salt tablets … check

    – gym mat … check

    🙂

…some things I didn’t dare list 🙄 Care to fill in the rest?

  22. rage777 May 10, 2011 8:59 am

    kawika49,

You can click on her name, but you have to scroll down to see the first instance of her name. Since she was talking about the site in the bio, I thought it would be easier for people to click on the link while reading it. I’m just not sure if you can make a link, or if ST gave her powers to change the text.

  23. LizKauai May 10, 2011 9:00 am

  26. ColomaOhana May 10, 2011 9:12 am

Hahaha RedZone!! Uh, not quite the Octo-mom. I think I’m a little more “normal” than she is. *twitch twitch*

Plus, I enjoy my greenies enough that I can enjoy my life and not give a rip about the paparazzi. She and Kate Gosslin need to hook up.

    Hahaha!

Coming out of lurking to say hi to Mrs.C……

  42. NYUH May 10, 2011 10:01 am

The Trojans defense has been sloppy all game long, and the Rainbow Warriors are slicing them up like nobody’s business.

When it’s all over, all Kiffin can do is shake his head and lament the fact that the defense has such a long, long way to go.

However, in hindsight, it turned out that Hawaii was a pretty good team after all.

  43. SteveM May 10, 2011 10:07 am

Another intro tidbit for Big C…

Tsai-kos first met her in person at the BIG Karaoke Call on February 7, 2009.

Then at the BIG Karaoke Call on May 9, 2009

and the BIG Karaoke Call on June 5, 2010.

    We got photos somewhere. 🙄

Did I forgot “karaoke mic” on the checklist?

    …no, no, no, no, no!!!

    🙂

    She’s actually a good singer.

No mic for other reasons… 😆

  44. bigislandkurt May 10, 2011 10:15 am

  48. Slugger May 10, 2011 10:32 am

    Morning, Mrs. C!!!

I like DPK’s description of the gang, Colomaohanaarmy.

  49. Kekoa May 10, 2011 10:33 am

We had a German Shep/Lab. Look j’like one Shep except for the Lab ears. The TV series with Sally Fields playing the ‘Flying Nun’ was popular then. My kids would chase the dog just so those ears would ‘fly!’

Chopper looks like the perfect addition to your gang. I know the children will learn important life lessons from growing up with their pet. Good call Mr. C.

  50. Kekoa May 10, 2011 10:43 am

Bowwar ~ Other than wat wuz posted last nite, no word about Mr. Stokes’ intentions so far.

Al will prolly post it as breaking news. Or, wen he sends Curt to the airport…that’s another sign.

This would be an important step up in so many ways.

  51. A-joe May 10, 2011 10:49 am

Aloha, Teeta. Your troops looking good az ewa! Thank you for taking the helm for today. =)

Whoah! Da sandbox stay full today. Stay kinda noisy ova hea.

  65. Pauoa Boy May 10, 2011 11:43 am

    Bowwar,

No word yet on Stokes but he is supposed to have some kind of ceremony at his high school to announce his decision tonight. I think Coach Gib gave him a deadline to let him know whether or not he will sign with us or someone else. With the LOI deadline approaching I don’t think Coach Gib wants to wait too long, because there are a few guys on the recruiting radar if Stokes doesn’t take the offer. Regardless, it is known to be between Colorado State and our Warriors as his final two choices. Pretty good for Coach Gib knowing that alot of other schools started jumping into the mix once he got qualified. I know TCU, CSU, Western Ky., UCLA, Iowa, Providence, and a bunch of other schools were in the mix. Anyway, I hope he chooses to become a Warrior cause that would make this years recruiting class the bomb!

  66. Pride. May 10, 2011 11:44 am

Imagine that, “Table for nine please?”

  67. ColomaOhana May 10, 2011 11:45 am

  72. madeinhawaii May 10, 2011 11:51 am

At least during football season got lots of articles to read about our Warriors … lots to keep one occupied… but during dis time of the season, it seems we get an inordinate amount of muggings … robberies … shootings … stabbings … accidents … auwe!

  73. Pauoa Boy May 10, 2011 11:54 am

Hope D. Rose and the Bulls can get a win tonight against the Hawks. Last game was too much one on one with D. Rose in the 4th quarter… hopefully the MVP brings it tonight…

  74. papajoe2 May 10, 2011 11:54 am

  80. Pauoa Boy May 10, 2011 12:00 pm

Doesn’t Hawai’i have that professional league football going with some former Warriors on those teams? How come there’s no real coverage of that at all and no one knows when or where they play or practice. Would be nice to get some interviews of our former Warrior Boys and see what they’ve been up to, just a thought…

Just wanted to drop in and check out Mrs. C’s hosting abilities. As usual, she’s amazing! Hehe…

    Have a great day everyone…

  97. Pride. May 10, 2011 12:21 pm

Does the MBB have a “big eraser” coming back? Or maybe one that they recruited. I like “erasers”. Nice, BIG man in the middle on defense. Intimidating looking guy. Real ugly. Maybe look something like, something like, wait, I gotta think.

  98. Pride. May 10, 2011 12:23 pm

    #97 – Koakane???

  99. gigi-hawaii May 10, 2011 12:23 pm

I guess Al and Curt got their wish. Welcome, Shaq.

  100. HawaiiMongoose May 10, 2011 12:23 pm

That’s a terrific recruiting class for the ‘Bows. I’m a little concerned about Shaq’s size, but he’s proven himself against top high school competition (All-Brooklyn Player of the Year, wow) and hopefully can make an impact on the D-1 level. Congratulations and great work Coach Gib!

  101. gigi-hawaii May 10, 2011 12:24 pm

I wonder how many Shaquilles there are in the world. All named after O’Neill? lol

  102. ColomaOhana May 10, 2011 12:26 pm

    H-bod!! Howzit, bradddah!!

MamaMia: hehehe…. Watch out…Esme stay small kine bittah’ dat I stay helping ova’ hea! Nah!! hahahaha…. 😉

    Pride: #98 hahaha…..

  103. chawan_cut May 10, 2011 12:30 pm

one big happy family, both yours and here…

  104. al May 10, 2011 12:31 pm

    small shaq

    sugar shaq

    lil grass shaq

    shaq attack

    what a pick up.

i was concerned that the coast to coast travels would be a major factor in his choices. he must have really loved it out here, the team, and the staff to not make that a factor. yah, all that amidst the worst weather we have had in awhile.

he’s gonna bring some comparisons to jerome freeman.

  105. al May 10, 2011 12:33 pm

pride…i think joachim fits that bill.

  106. al May 10, 2011 12:34 pm

gigi…i believe thousands of warrior basketball fans were pulling for sugar shaq’s signed documents.

  107. al May 10, 2011 12:35 pm

so the question is…are we done recruiting for this year????

is there a big out there still looming as a potential warrior?

or do we wait till next year already???

    you never know do you?

  108. ColomaOhana May 10, 2011 12:35 pm

chawan_cut: Howzit! Neva’ see you long time, too!

  109. ColomaOhana May 10, 2011 12:41 pm

    Eh, play nice, ah, everybody.

I gotta go to my Zumba class… Be right back. 😉

  110. al May 10, 2011 12:42 pm

just looking at this year’s recruits coupled with the returnees…i’d say cup runneth over.

i don’t recall this much potential up and down the bench as ever before.

the competition for playing time will be keen exactly the way you want it as a coach.

what this does is motivate your players to work hard and often without much cajoling.

    buy your season tickets now!

  111. Pauoa Boy May 10, 2011 12:44 pm

Vander Joaquim is big enough for now and will be a double-double machine this year. Rozitis finally gets to play and will bring nice height down low too. Ronnie Stevens could make an impact as a freshman as well. The thing I like about this recruiting class is they are all big time players that played against elite competition year round from their seasons to AAU ball and offseason leagues and tournaments. This class has loads of potential to make our Warrior Basketball very exciting for the next 4 years…

  112. Pride. May 10, 2011 12:50 pm

    Al:

he’s gonna bring some comparisons to jerome freeman.

That’s the first thing I said when I saw his video Al.

  113. Pride. May 10, 2011 12:52 pm

Okay. Gotta go watch Zumba class.

  114. Michigan Warrior May 10, 2011 12:52 pm

    Howzit, everyone!

    Aloha Coloma ‘ohana!

Welcome to our newest Warrior… Stokes!!!

  115. Pride. May 10, 2011 12:52 pm

    Bye gang.

  116. Pauoa Boy May 10, 2011 12:54 pm

    HawaiiMongoose,

Stokes is mean and plays bigger than his height indicates for sure. He’s got that NY style of game, legit handles, speed and quickness, good defender, plus can score from all over the floor. He lead his team to the NY Championship game this past year which they lost but he was the most consistent baller the whole season. The guy he played against in that championship game Antione Slaughter was only 5’5″ but was the MVP of that game. Still Stokes is a true baller and especially in the NY where he’s from he was going up against elite competition every night.

  117. LizKauai May 10, 2011 12:59 pm

    Everyone’s at Zumba… 😈

    tiptoe… tiptoe…

Yeee Haaa!!! (jumping on the couch and hiding the remote control)

    Whoosh!

  118. Slugger May 10, 2011 1:04 pm

Eh, LizKauai, you gonna get da slippah when Mrs. C comes back….

    Se ya, Pride.

  119. d1shima (Aria'd) May 10, 2011 1:08 pm

    Good news for MBB.

  120. Bowwar May 10, 2011 1:25 pm

Outstanding news…Baby Shaq is in the house!!!!

There is good cause for optimism for our Men’s basketball team…NOW, JD has to get that contract issue fixed with Gib. Gib surely deserves a raise and further compensation for revitalizing the program.

Addendum…Give Mack his due too…Where’s his contract extension…

  121. gigi-hawaii May 10, 2011 1:32 pm

Because of the huge deficit, I am not in favor of increasing Gib’s and Mack’s salary at this time. Structure in bonuses when due, yes, but otherwise, keep the status quo.

  122. Pauoa Boy May 10, 2011 1:38 pm

Coach Gib deserves something, whether it’s a pay raise or whatever… He’s getting paid pennies to what some other guys in our conference are being paid. Shute if he is able to Coach this team into some post season March Madness then dayumit pay the man what he’s worth! Coach Mack is another one who I feel is doing the right things for the football program and is getting paid what he deserves. WAC Championship and a Bowl Game… If these two coaches are consistently putting out a winning product and getting our sports teams on the map then pay em what they’re worth! Would suck big time if we lose these Coaches because we couldn’t get them the money they deserved…

  123. gigi-hawaii May 10, 2011 1:45 pm

    Where’s the money coming from???

Gib finished just 1 year as head coach. Mack is already being paid $1.1million. That’s a lot of money.

Again, where’s the money coming from?

  124. hubby May 10, 2011 1:46 pm

    You tell them, Mom!

  125. madeinhawaii May 10, 2011 1:55 pm

    gigi,

Gotta pay the guys in the revenue producing sports enough to keep them and keep them motivated so that they keep making money for the Athletics Dept. Without them, the loss in revenue would be many more times their pay.

  126. Pauoa Boy May 10, 2011 1:57 pm

    aunty gigi,

I understand our athletics department is all hammajangs with money issues and what not but I just saying it would suck if we couldn’t retain these coaches. Coach Mack is making a pretty decent penny but at the same time he’s putting out a winning product getting people excited about UH football and making fans want to come out and see Warrior football which in turn is making UH money. Same with Coach Gib, this past season he exceeded everyones expectations and got us into a post season tournament in the CIT. He is getting everyone excited about UH basketball again and with the way things are going it’ll be only a matter of time when we’ll start seeing the Stan Sherriff sold out for games. Look at what he’s done with this years recruiting class, I mean when have you seen this much talent and top caliber players want to play for UH??? Yes, none have played a single game yet for UH but just the excitement and knowing what kind of team we can become is getting people amped up about UH sports again. In turn it’ll make UH more money with more fans coming out to watch a winning product! I dunno what JD needs to do but I do know he needs to try and retain these coaches who are turning the program around and getting the Warrior name put on the sports map!

  127. NCAA May 10, 2011 1:57 pm

UH Manoa is going to take out a reverse mortgage to pay them. That leaves nothing for the progeny. LOL

  128. wafan May 10, 2011 2:01 pm

    Good afternoon!

  129. wafan May 10, 2011 2:02 pm

    Very stoked about Stokes!

    Whoo-hoo!!!

  130. bigislandkurt May 10, 2011 2:02 pm

    Shaquille……redshirt o what?

    BIK

  131. wafan May 10, 2011 2:03 pm

Looks like things are running just fine here in the club house . . .

As well as can be expected, anyhow!

    Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!

  132. gigi-hawaii May 10, 2011 2:04 pm

What about bonuses? Why wouldn’t that make them happy?

I think JD has to be tactful, but firm with these coaches. They must know what dire shape the dept is in.

Be realistic, guys! It sounds nice to throw money at these coaches to keep them here, but, hey…

  133. bigislandkurt May 10, 2011 2:04 pm

Yesterday was a great day. Thanks everybody.

Mrs. C represent’n jess fine today! I should go zumba too. But then again, maybe I’ll just go get da value meal. What’s the chance we get McDonald’s to offer an adobo sauce to go with the mcnuggets?

    BIK

  134. wafan May 10, 2011 2:04 pm

    Waffles for dinner.

    YUM!

  135. Pomai May 10, 2011 2:09 pm

Pauoa Boy, don’t get me wrong I like Gib but one season does not make a great coach, I think if he has the same season or better next year then yeah start talking about pay raise. As far as coach Mack well a million is a million, I would rather see them leave Coach Mack’s pay right where it is and start increasing the ass’t coaches pay.

  136. bigislandkurt May 10, 2011 2:12 pm

    WA-ffles for WA-fan.

I think we’re on to something here.

    Roscoes Chicken and Waffles 2.0?

    BIK

  137. gigi-hawaii May 10, 2011 2:12 pm

Oh, listen to Pomai, guys!!! His is the voice of reason!!!

The dept in the past has made such big boo-boos. Take von Appen, for instance. He was given a 3 year extension by Yoshida despite a losing record. What the hell???

So he’s fired and then paid for the 3 years he never worked!

  138. NCAA May 10, 2011 2:21 pm

Excuse me but everyone has a voice of reason. Just because one’s path parallels yours does not make it the right path. Don’t know much about Von Appen but a losing record? Lessons learned.

  139. Manoa Mist May 10, 2011 2:22 pm

al: I think Little Grass Shaq is your best one. You’re good at this stuff…

  140. Pauoa Boy May 10, 2011 2:25 pm

    Pomai,

I know it was only one season and yup can wait to see what we got this year but consider Coach Arnolds pay to the rest of the coaches in the conference and he’s getting underpaid. Still he already got us into the post season in his first year, already put together probably the best recruiting class UH has ever seen…hands down. All I know is pay the man something and after this year when we reach the post season again, give him the pay he deserves.

Anyway, I just don’t want to see Coaches who are finally getting things right for our sports teams go away. I mean losing June Jones was just dumb if you ask me. I do agree that Coach Rolo, Aranda and the rest of the staff need some raises as well.

  141. NCAA May 10, 2011 2:27 pm

Gib may or may not be a great coach but he is a good coach. He came in and cleaned house. Recruited in a timeframe that was not conducive to great recruiting yet managed to assemble a group of players that played outstanding for a season.

He continues to recruit and build the foundation and vision of Warrior basketball. Pauoa Boy is right in that none of the current recruits have played in a Warrior uniform yet but the seeds have been secured and will be planted soon. Someday UH will reap what they have sowed.

  142. gigi-hawaii May 10, 2011 2:32 pm

    PBoy,

We could never have matched SMU’s $2+ million to JJ. So to even bemoan his leaving isn’t right. Let him go, already.

  143. d1shima (Aria'd) May 10, 2011 2:32 pm

Isn’t the issue with Arnold that his original contract wa never finalized?

  144. d1shima (Aria'd) May 10, 2011 2:35 pm

The Former Coach never wanted that much.

  145. d1shima (Aria'd) May 10, 2011 2:36 pm

    … To stay, that is.

  146. gigi-hawaii May 10, 2011 2:37 pm

d1, why do you suppose Gib hired an attorney to represent him in contract talks with JD? There must be a reason.

  147. gigi-hawaii May 10, 2011 2:38 pm

d1, I don’t think JJ could resist the SMU carrot after it was offered.

  148. Kazz May 10, 2011 2:38 pm

All I can say about Gib Arnold is this:

The guy knows how to win, the guy knows how to speak.

Would I give him a ride if his car stalled out? Yes.

Would I leave him alone in my car with the keys in the ignition? NO. (This is a metaphor, I’m sure he has a BETTER car than me. 😉 )

  149. d1shima (Aria'd) May 10, 2011 2:39 pm

    What say you, gigi?

  150. gigi-hawaii May 10, 2011 2:39 pm

    haha, Kazz.

  151. Kazz May 10, 2011 2:41 pm

You know when you shake hands and talk with someone for a little bit, you can tell when someone is just talking with you or trying to “sell” you something.

It takes NO talent to sense a difference between the two.

  152. gigi-hawaii May 10, 2011 2:42 pm

say admin raises the athletic fee for students to $100 at registration time, don’t you think there will be a groundswell of opposition on campus?

my daughter paid the $50 as required this year, but still has not been to a single game.

  153. ColomaOhana May 10, 2011 2:42 pm

Liz: I’m back wit’ my slippah!

    Thanks, Slugger.. hehehe…

BIK: If you come Ewa Beach McD’s, get adobo… hahaha!!

  154. Pomai May 10, 2011 2:43 pm

Pauoa Boy I hear ya, but like anything else we need to see if this is the real deal or a one shot guy, I think he is the real deal but when your talking about hundred’s of thousands of dollars I think I would go on the slow side. Also I kind of don’t think getting to the CIT id that big of a deal, sorry. I also think he has put together a good staff, has done a good job of recruiting, so all that’s left is to see what kind of season he has. If he has the one we all think he can have then the ball is in his court (pun intended)

  155. Kazz May 10, 2011 2:43 pm

    Gigi,

I’m sure your daughter pays for the Rainbow Shuttle (bus). Does she use that service?

  156. gigi-hawaii May 10, 2011 2:43 pm

ah, well, guys, what will be will be. It will be very interesting to see what happens this year with the pending contracts.

  157. gigi-hawaii May 10, 2011 2:45 pm

Kazz, no she has a car so does not use any kind of bus.

  158. Pomai May 10, 2011 2:46 pm

Dang I wish it would rain already….

  159. NCAA May 10, 2011 2:49 pm

It’s called an activities fee. And whose fault is it that one has not attended a single game?

  160. ColomaOhana May 10, 2011 2:50 pm

I know a *few* people who ride the short bus…

    Just sayin’….

  161. NCAA May 10, 2011 2:52 pm

Hello ColomaOhana, nice to meet you. One day that dog will grow to feed a family of nine.

  162. iwonderwhytheyhateme May 10, 2011 2:56 pm

Hey ColomaOhana. Congrats on being host for the day.

  163. ColomaOhana May 10, 2011 2:58 pm

Pomai: Can it wait till I get home?

You know how I just LOVE to drive in traffic! hehehe..

  164. NCAA May 10, 2011 2:58 pm

Just think, all this extra tax dollars Oahuans are paying for rail and more than 50% will probably never use it. 🙄

  165. ColomaOhana May 10, 2011 3:00 pm

iwonderwhytheyhateme: Eh, howzit! Neva’ see long time! Since Imua’s, I tink…

    Mahaloz! 😉

  166. Beleza May 10, 2011 3:11 pm

  168. madeinhawaii May 10, 2011 3:12 pm

If there’s going to be a lot of protest anyway… raise the activity fee to $150. Get it done with… 😉

  169. Old Diver May 10, 2011 3:13 pm

    #146

This goes along the line that a doctor who diagnosis him or herself has a fool for a patient.

  170. NorthShoreFan May 10, 2011 3:13 pm

  171. madeinhawaii May 10, 2011 3:13 pm

    ColomaOhana…

When NCAA said it would grow to feed a family of 9.. he didn’t mean puppies….

  172. NCAA May 10, 2011 3:14 pm

ColomaOhana, you misunderstood me. I meant that dog will be adobo one day and feed the family. BIK has the pigs, you have the dog.

  173. madeinhawaii May 10, 2011 3:16 pm

Those of you who attended Castle High School probably know teacher and artist Stan Yamauchi. I just got word that he passed away.. ;-( … Rest in peace my friend…. rest in peace.

  174. madeinhawaii May 10, 2011 3:17 pm

    NCAA…

I suggested the same thing in my #71 post above…

  178. NorthShoreFan May 10, 2011 3:20 pm

    and too cute..

  179. al May 10, 2011 3:22 pm

you pay for what you get.

you want luxury you buy a mercedes benz.

you want gas economy you buy a small 4 cyl car.

you want a great steak you buy a u.s. prime center cut filet mignon.

you want a cheap steak you buy a u.s. standard chuck steak.

you want a good lobster you buy a two lb live maine lobster or a local spiny one caught off the shores of kona.

you want just any lobster you go to red lobster and get the two ounce tails.

you want a coach who can build a program by doing, saying, producing, and recruiting an excitable team that which will be well attended, then you go out a find that gem.

otherwise, any coach will do and you will lose even more money.

this is how you get a business like run athletic dept. to get results you have to have a product that people will buy in to.

last year alone was proof enough by the way the attendance grew in just one year for the basketball program.

its the same as when jj came did the same thing but, we didn’t listen and he left in frustration. and gigi it was not about his salary.

    …nuff said.

make memories the bald one said.

so if you are already paying for entitled sports events, then it is your fault if you don’t attend and enjoy that part of the college experience.

  193. Curt May 10, 2011 3:36 pm

    al,

If we go for another recruit, I say he ought to be very special. No role players need apply. Otherwise, I’d save it for next season so the Gibber would have two to work with. After next season, I’m anticipating Gib will push our rep to an even higher level–meaning that we’ll have a better shot at the elite players.

  194. bigislandkurt May 10, 2011 3:40 pm

NO! Dogs are not for da Adobo! they are man’s best friend.

PIGS were put on this planet for man’s adobo fix. Just like chickens were put on this planet for man’s popeye’s fix.

    BIk

  195. Curt May 10, 2011 3:41 pm

What’s the latest on another possible recruit? Are we still looking for this year? Looks like we have players and competition at all the positions.

  208. Ralph May 10, 2011 3:57 pm

Slugger the WAC tournament will not be covered by ESPN. WAC TV will stream the games for a price. Lanaiboy stated that he watched the WAC TV network and he plans on subscribing again, so, I would say that it must be worth the cost to keep up with the Na Wahine.

ESPN will cover the SEC tournament, Big South Championship game, the Southland Championship game, same with the Big East.

  209. Rob25 May 10, 2011 3:58 pm

  213. slenzi May 10, 2011 4:03 pm

Crazy all this wait for NFL, for start Fall Camp, etc but some good stuff. Hawaii has a Defense this year. You can teach backs to catch shovel passes. The coaching staff has had a chance to jell and develop the chemistry that gets contagious with the players. I like the way this year is shaping up.

  214. Curt May 10, 2011 4:05 pm

Per Gib, Shaq was named NY City Player of the Year about an hour ago.

  215. ColomaOhana May 10, 2011 4:10 pm

#218 NYC is a great place to visit. So big, so crowded, so different. Maybe you can convince the Knickerbockers to fly you in for a try out. Do you have an in with AC Carter or Anthony Carmelo? If that doesn’t work out, you can always call the Donald and see if he’ll let you borrow his private jet.

  226. Kazz May 10, 2011 4:34 pm

Not gonna see NCAA softball on any of the ESPN networks until the Super Regionals.

  227. postmanke May 10, 2011 4:35 pm

    Congrats Coach Arnold. Great addition!

  228. Pauoa Boy May 10, 2011 4:39 pm

Pomai #154 – Eh I feel you on that and yes Coach Gib needs to prove he can keep our basketball team winning year in and year out. I’m sure he will and we will see some names end up on his Wall of Fame sooner than you think…

al #179 – thanks, couldn’t have said that better myself.

gigi #142 – if you thought June Jones leaving was because of the money you are sorely mistaken. His main reason for leaving was because we had a bonehead athletic director who didn’t listen to Coach and make the changes needed to get things in order. He left because he knew things weren’t going to change anytime soon and didn’t want to continue the BS that was going on. Thus the reason why Frazier is gone and Jim Donovan is in. It is why Coach Mack is now reaping the benefits of what June Jones was trying to accomplish.

  229. PowderPuff May 10, 2011 4:42 pm

The blog is back…what happened? Earlier today it was down – or maybe it was the gremlins here in Waikiki. So an afternoon WHAT’S UP and cheeeeee hooooo, to Mrs. C! I’ll have to second Curt on NYC being an amazing place, especially at Christmas. Just went there in December and oh my, The Tree at Rockefeller Center is amazing. I got to stalk the Heisman Trophy guys in Times Square too…yeeee haw!!

Congrats to Coach Arnold for Shaq today. Wow!!!

I thought you were stalking the ESPN guys…

  232. Pauoa Boy May 10, 2011 4:47 pm

Just got a message from Shaquille Stokes and in his own words after I congratulated him on choosing to become a Warrior, he replied “Thanx hawaii gone be special this season”. Seems he is very happy on his decision to be a Warrior and is looking to do some big things for the 808 on the basketball court. He knows about A.C. Carter and wants to hopefully follow in his footsteps and make it big.

Also, I know there’s some nicknames you guys been coming up with but back in NY everyone seems to call him “Slime”.

  233. LizKauai May 10, 2011 4:54 pm

    Whoosh!

Keep the good teachers (coaches) – they produce successful students (athletes). They are not here to collect a paycheck. They are going over and above, allout, all the time. They are GOLD for UH. Don’t let them get away!!!

    Whoosh!

  234. Shoko May 10, 2011 5:33 pm

    Howzit folks!

Respect to Mrs. C for running the blog today.

Anywho, glad to hear that Stokes decided on signing with the Warriors. Not willing to over-hype this kid just yet, tho. He needs to prove himself under Coach Gib. I over-hyped Anthony Salter when he signed, and we all know how that worked out. However, when it comes to undersized guards, there is always that chance he could turn out to be another Jerome Randle (UCLA) and Isiah Thomas (UW). At this point, I’m cautiously optimistic.

  235. Kazz May 10, 2011 5:38 pm

So, heard Al Scates will retire in 2012.

    See… it’s another sign.

  236. Shoko May 10, 2011 5:53 pm

Just read a story that stated…

“Boise State football home games bring in nearly $2 million each, according to a 2008 Idaho Statesman report, which combined (usually six games) accounts for about half the athletic department’s budget.”

Nice to be Boise State, but I still hate them. Err, rather love to hate them…lol!

  237. Slugger May 10, 2011 5:59 pm

    Ralph,

Thx for the correction. I thought I saw ESPNU on one of the schedules…

Now I know why my sister used to tell me I was lucky to have cold weather in FLG (snow today). This humidity is a killa.

  238. Pauoa Boy May 10, 2011 6:02 pm

Stokes, Blakes, Biggs, Stevens…will be a solid core group to build with… I’m sure there will be something special gonna happen in the Stan Sheriff this year. Joston Thomas seems more determined to get himself in better shape and improve himself. Rozitis is hungry after sitting out a year. Vander is about to become a double – double monster this year. Hauns and Zane will be lighting it up from outside. DeShawn will be providing some aerial highlights. It’s going to be a fun and exciting season mark my words!

  239. gmahoney May 10, 2011 6:03 pm

Aloha Mrs. C~good job on your blog post. I met you and your ohana only 1 time but I was impressed with how well behaved your keiki are. One look from you and they were standing at attention. One look and the guilty one would settle right down. I guess the slippah would be administered later? Loved it. Anyway, hope to see you a Tgate soon.

  240. Not an Expert May 10, 2011 6:03 pm

The rain was an omen in getting Shaq, as I like to believe. I also believe that Hawaii Five-0 is helping to portray a positive image to our islands although the theme is about crime. The arial shots and enhance colors is selling Hawaii both for UH and tourism. Hope this series continues for many years to come. Didn’t the original Hawaii Five-0 start about the same time as when the Fab-5 rejuvenated the bb program?

  241. ColomaOhana May 10, 2011 6:22 pm

    Okay….I’m settled in at home… a little.

Mr. C took #3 to his Boy Scout meeting, #4, #5, & #6 are upstairs playing Legos, #1 is doing homework here by me, #2 is snacking on popcorn and mochi crunch (since she pau wash the dishes from this morning), and #7 is “reading a book” and singing a song…

What song? I have no clue, but she’s humming to herself and thinks it funny cause she’s giggling at the same time, too….

Somebody let coach Mac know that Florida Gators top running back Mike Blakley wants to transfer to a school that runs the spread offense. Florida has a new coach who runs a pro set offense, so he’s looking to go to a team that run’s the spread, who can that be.

  245. Kekoa May 10, 2011 6:47 pm

Good recruiting year for Coach Gib. Only time will tell. A long time ago, Coach Bruce O’Neil had awesome recruiting years. In those days, a player could transfer to Alaska and Hawaii without sitting out a year. I forget who else was in this recruiting year, but the year he had Victor Kelly, 5’6″ point guard he also had other big time players. Kelly was the quickest person I ever saw. I once saw him steal a ball that was about to be dribbled. He caught the ball before it hit the ground for the dribble.

#270 I agree with you about Victor Kelly. The guy was so quick. I witnessed most of this in Klum Gym during pick up games. He would take it inside and dart here and there so quickly. In real games, he never went inside that much.

I think some of the players he may have played with were Melton Werts, Henry Hollingsworth, Rod Aldridge, Artie Wilson, Marvin Vivatoe, Tom Henderson, Jimmy Baker, and Tommy Barker. I think I still have a photo of Victor Kelly standing next to 7’0″ Tommy Barker; that was a big height spread.

Mrs ‘C’ ~ Please tell your hubby we had to call for back up today. Good response from the KPD. 2nd fight in front da hale in less than a week. They moved the fight to the Rec center park after the unit arrived.

Need da HS to lock that gate again, or put security on it during the time it is open.

Sorry to have brought the fun level of the blog down a notch, but I do want the folks on the WB know that your hubby is a good enforcer of the law. In these times, we need more people like him. Put extra gravy on his ‘Roo adobo tonite.
