Moniz, Silva win WAC awards

Quarterback Bryant Moniz and safety Mana Silva today were named the WAC’s players of the week for offensive and defense, respectively.

After misfiring on six of his first seven passes, Moniz finished 27 of 38 for 326 yards and three touchdowns in a 45-10 victory over Idaho.

Silva had nine tackles and an interception, his team-leading fifth of the season.

Interesting strategy by UH’s Derek Inouchi. He wasn’t sure the WAC would go for a three-peat of linebacker Corey Paredes (15 tackles). So he submits Silva’s name. Silva wins. Smart play by Inouchi.

Congrats to former Warrior receiver Mike Washington, who signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Power of the Arena Football League.

This may be why Houston’s President tweeted last week that conference realignment was still going on. If C-USA loses a few teams, then La Tech will probably get an invitation and leave the WAC. If the MWC loses TCU, they will probably invite a WAC school. In other words, I’m hoping that the Big East chooses *not* to expand…as this could be bad for UH (unless the MWC takes UH due to this season’s football success).

Several sources confirmed a Post report last month that TCU is a strong candidate. Houston, Central Florida, Temple and/or Villanova, which is in the midst of evaluating a move up from FCS, are other lead candidates.

Two sources said if the presidents give their blessing to explore expansion, invitations could be issued before the end of the college football season. TCU is said to be very interested, as is Central Florida.

Thanks Garret, thats what I thought. Silva had a good game but Paredes 15 tackles and an interception, I guess since he won last week they wanted to share.

  11. expat November 1, 2010 6:18 am

Five *safeties* in a season by a single player would be pretty impressive. I would say that would be a good barometer of how well a defense is playing. Hey, five interceptions is still pretty good, Mana!

    Garret…

The Big East only has 6-2 Syracuse and 5-3 Pitt at the moment. They are looking weaker and weaker as time goes by. TCU would enter that conference as the Big Dog, with their BCS points. The other thing to look at is Men’s Basketball.

Kinda wish the conferences could be redone by region, at least. That may mean some schools will have to play certain historic rivals OoC. I mean, we have LaTech as part of our Western Athletic Conference. The Big East is looking to add TCU and possibly Houston. The whole landscape needs to be reworked.

And then I wake from my dream. Yeah, I know.

Given the minimal amount of resources he has to work with, I think JD is doing an outstanding job. Plus, he helps to make our schedules. I think he’s taken a look at possible scheduling and costs as an Independent on more than one ocassion, and believes this is our best course of action at the moment. I don’t see how we can make judgements without half of the information people like JD has at their disposal.

  39. Stephen Tsai November 1, 2010 7:25 am

Like I said, I think it should be reversed. The Wahine volleyball team should go independent.

  42. Stephen Tsai November 1, 2010 7:28 am

In its sport, the Wahine have more national reach. If volleyball fans don’t want to watch the Wahine play WAC teams, then go independent, and load up on top-25 opponents.

  43. NYUH November 1, 2010 7:31 am

MW: Yeah, you wish the NCAA would take some leadership rather than bending over for the BCS. UH should play in the PAC-10 but because Hawaii sends its rich kids overseas it has to rely on state funds and has trouble competing financially with the SCs and Washington. But UH is a great university and should be competing in that league.

ST… just wondering how much of their schedule would have to be on the road, though. Seems, with the influx of BCS money into BCS women’s V-Ball programs, there seems to be more up-and-coming programs now. The shift of power has been moving east with every new season.

At the end of the day, JD’s a good guy and he’s on our side.

    Nuff said.

  47. Stephen Tsai November 1, 2010 7:38 am

UH could go independent if it were like Notre Dame, the military schools and BYU. All have national followings.

The other side to being independent is Louisiana Tech. They just had a horrible time with that. Money games killed their record. No conference affiliation killed recruiting. They couldn’t book home games, so they had to play even more money games. Does anybody remember LaTech playing on national TV as an independent?

I know Bobby Curran is an advocate of going independent. I asked him about scheduling, and he said UH would have to hire someone to do the scheduling. Bottom line is scheduling: Military schools don’t want to play UH every year. Teams don’t want to play UH in the middle of the conference season. And all of the West Coast teams, except for San Jose State, actually abandoned UH.

  48. Michigan Warrior November 1, 2010 7:38 am

NYUH… I agree with you. I think UH has some great academic programs to add to the PAC12. In fact, Hawaii scored way better than Colorado in the latest APR scores. Colorado actually lost some scholarships due to their poor Rating!

PAC12 teams don’t complain about money when having to fly over here for games in any sport. Several of UH’s athletic teams already compete with PAC12 teams. They’ve already got their AQ status in the BCS, and I don’t foresee them losing it any time in the next century.

As long as UH keeps doing what it’s doing, I’m gonna keep dreaming of that invite.

    **Off Topic**

    Pontiac, 84, Dies of indifference

Last remaining dealer agreements officially expired yesterday.

Pontiac – now completely gone as of this morning. It supplied a livelihood for my grandfather, father and uncle, everyone I knew growing up, as well as, several hundred thousands of others in its life. At its peak, two blocks from my house, there were 55,000 plus workers employed at the Pontiac complex (through the 60’s and 70’s when I grew up.). The complex is now entirely leveled and is a massive grassy field and the city of Pontiac in shambles.

    🙁

  53. Michigan Warrior November 1, 2010 7:43 am

ST… on top of that, UH hasn’t exactly made an all out effort to get the UH brand marketed nationwide, or even to saturate the West Coast. Marketing goes a long way to building that following. Of course, winning does too. Wahine Softball opened some eyes. Even our neighbor’s daughter (who plays volleyball and softball) was like, “Wow, Hawaii has a hot team! Didn’t know they played Softball. Thought it was only football and volleyball.”

On top of that, most of the exposure was due to ESPN, and not UH Marketing.

  54. Michigan Warrior November 1, 2010 7:45 am

Yeah, d1… it was all over the news yesterday, and will continue to be covered just due to the numbers of families that will be affected by it all over here.

The MPSF is the best conference.

It has the best of four conferences.

And look at the Outrigger Tournament. Any other sports have a field of Hawaii, Penn State, Ohio State and USC?

    – 3rd Oldsmobile

    – 4th Cadillac (as the reward for making it to the 4th level.)

  57. Stephen Tsai November 1, 2010 7:48 am

UH is looking for a marketing guy in charge of promotions.

I think there are a lot of people on the blog who can do that. Promotions is about getting people into the venue; UH spends too much time entertaining people who are already there.

  58. Michigan Warrior November 1, 2010 7:56 am

ST… you hit that nail right on the head!

Promotions is about getting people into the venue; UH spends too much time entertaining people who are already there.

  59. CoolEthan November 1, 2010 8:00 am

Clever Marketing starts a year earlier than the projected date of publication.

They can’t even get straight on which color to wear to the game several days before.

One shirt that is reversable. Green on one side, white on the other.

  60. Pomai November 1, 2010 8:04 am

#57 – ST – the only problem is the restrictions that UH places on it. We can’t p!ss off any of the corporate sponsors. The bottom line is the big donors. One of the major problems is that UH is trying to act like the big time mainland schools, but in turn neglects the local fans and the culture that Hawaii brings to the table. I have to give credit to the local fans because no matter how many times they have been forgotten about the core stays loyal.

  65. Pomai November 1, 2010 8:10 am

ST why does UH use the mauka side rather than the Makai side? Also they should have the sideline camera on the mauka side showing the Makai side seats which is a lot fuller that the Mauka side, would look better on TV.

  66. Pomai November 1, 2010 8:13 am

#63 gigi – come on gigi this isn’t bad, just a sprinkle.

  67. expat November 1, 2010 8:13 am

UH is a regional school though. There really aren’t that many truly national schools out there. There really isn’t that much point in spending much on marketing out on the East Coast, for instance. There are pockets on the West Coast where it could be effective. One thing that would help is to have more away games for Hawaii teams on the west coast and for UH to market them to alumni — and I am talking about besides football. When I was living in SF a bunch of us would drive down to SJSU to watch the Wahine play SJSU every year. We would go down to Stanford to watch the men’s volleyball team play as well.

Not counting men’s volleyball UH really only has SJSU as a conference rival located in an area where there are lots of people with Hawaii ties. How many Hawaii folks who don’t already play for the Vandals are there in Moscow? You can say the same for almost all WAC cities.

There is no easy solution of course.

  68. Michigan Warrior November 1, 2010 8:14 am

We need new blood in our fan base. The Free Student Project is a great start. We just gotta keep it going. There needs to be more activities on campus to promote these events. One of my brothers is back to attending classes at Manoa again, and he says he’s never seen anything calling on students to attend games. (But then, he might be spending too much time in Campus Center when not in class.)

  76. dopaco24 November 1, 2010 8:21 am

I don’t think that UH spends too much time entertaining people in the stadium. You have to have a reason to make people come again. My take is that they spend little time on in game entertainment, and no time on promotions. This strategy would work if Aloha Stadium just opened this year and has all the latest technology. However, it is a 35 year old piece of rust. You can’t boast amenities, because it doesn’t have them. You have to create a game atmosphere that is unlike any other college in the country. When that happens, then fans will overlook the crappy stadium conditions and remain at the games. Then you focus on promotions to work on packing the stadium.

Speaking of packing, who’s idea was it to have a green-out against Nevada, and then sell white T-shirts?

  77. Michigan Warrior November 1, 2010 8:22 am

But, I was talking about the colors that our fans are wearing during home games. It really looks good to see so much green.

  79. Kazz blogging via DROID X November 1, 2010 8:25 am

    dopaco24,

There was no official designated “green out” for the Nevada game per se.For ALL UH home games they expect peole to wear green.

White shirts are cheaper to make than colored ones.

  80. gigi-hawaii November 1, 2010 8:26 am

As a ppv subscriber, I really enjoy watching the TV 2 hours prior to kick off. I get to see people walking around, sitting and eating inside the stadium — you know, what they are wearing, etc.

So far, I haven’t seen any Tsaikos, though.

Also, there is that contest which shows someone kicking a field goal and winning a $100 prize.

And the band playing, a fantastic singer singing the anthems.

    So cool.

  81. Kazz blogging via DROID X November 1, 2010 8:31 am

By taking the AD job at that particular time, Jim Donovan has the biggest “set” of anyone I know.

Other people can talk talk talk… thats what we all do right here. Some ideas from fans sound good… on paper then when you think about the reality of the situation, some suggestions turn into solid nightmares from paper dreams.

  82. Pomai November 1, 2010 8:32 am

Kazz that could be possible when we win the National Championship, it all starts with getting our name out there.

#67 -expat – I have to disagree with you on that one, we could if “done right” have just as big a following as ND, there are so many Locals living on the east coast to the west coast you wouldn’t believe, the problem is no one reaches out to them, did you know that the there are more Polynesians on the mainland than in Hawaii, so you promote the Warriors not only as Hawaii’s team but Polynesia team.

  83. CoolEthan November 1, 2010 8:33 am

Gigi- That pre-game viewing is worth it, along with the entire half-time field antics.

Pre-game, half-time and post game should always be there and just sell that time space.

  84. Pomai November 1, 2010 8:36 am

#81 Kazz have to agree with you on that one. Can you imagine what he could do if all was well in UH LAND.

  85. CoolEthan November 1, 2010 8:36 am

your right Kazz, Mr. Donovan should have the middle name of Cojones Grande. I don’t agree with some of the decisions he has made in the past, but in the Whole, he stands strong on both feet and is the perfect AD for this time, helping move athletics in the right direction.

  86. CoolEthan November 1, 2010 8:37 am

I don’t even want to think about where this program would be with what’s his name that is currently at Temple being AD

  87. LizKauai m/ November 1, 2010 8:37 am

Our best marketing strategy is winning.

A great and lasting program can be built on that foundation.

No doubt UH is uniquely positioned to collaborate with even more corporate sponsors like SHERATON who bring us the Hawaii Bowl.

Many other mutually-beneficial marketing opportunities that will fill the venues of winning teams.

I believe that we have an outstanding AD and bright Chancellor who understand the concepts.

And it was nice to see UH Presidential support all weekend long!

    Have a GREAT DAY, everyone!

Garret, re #5, I’m thinking that if TCU leaves for the Big East, the MWC will just stand pat with nine members. Historically it’s been a nine-member conference, which is the ideal size for football scheduling. Is there some reason I’m missing that they would want to add a WAC school to get back to ten?

The situation with LaTech is ironic. For years we’ve been rooting for them to get a CUSA bid and leave the WAC. Now when the WAC actually needs them to stay around awhile, the bid may be forthcoming.

  90. Pomai November 1, 2010 8:41 am

I’m sorry to disagree with anyone, but there is absolutely too much advertising at the stadium during the game. I understand that they need to take the commercial breaks, but a lot of the times they take them at the wrong time, say like when we are driving for a score and we are hot, then the kids have to stand around for break and it takes them out of their rhythm and we end up not scoring. I could go on and on but you get the point.

Also they got ripped with that bazooka thing, crap I think I could throw the shirt further than that thing.

  91. Pomai November 1, 2010 8:48 am

One other thing is I know this will piss off some, but they need to move the band back to mid-field along with the students section.

Another thing is I would like to see them try, no preferred seating, first bought first served, when tickets go on sale all you sell are the orange sections all the way around, when they are all sold then open the blue, then the nosebleeds.

  92. dopaco24 November 1, 2010 8:48 am

    HawaiiMongoose,

You are correct that La Tech leaving just as they are finally wanted by the WAC would be ironic. The sad thing is that La Tech doing exactly what the WAC had wanted them to do before Fresno/Nevada left could kill the WAC.

You are correct that the MWC could just stay pat with 9. However, if they lose TCU they do need 1 more team ranked in the top 25 to get/keep AQ status. That could be Air Force, SDSU, Fresno, or Nevada of course (I’m assuming BSU will be in the top 25, a safe assumption I think), but they could add one more team if that team ended this season in the top 25.

  95. Pomai November 1, 2010 8:51 am

Ahh heck while I’m at it, they need to do something better to accommodate the handicap, a lot of fans don’t go to the game because of that (right tom), but there should be a way to make it easier for them to be there. Also they need to re-think PPV.

  96. gigi-hawaii November 1, 2010 8:53 am

What the stadium needs is handrails!!! It’s so hard to walk down the steps without them.

  97. Pomai November 1, 2010 8:53 am

It should be Green all the time, or mixed when it is coordinated right, but heck we know that won’t happen, so all green it is.

Garret BSu will not be in the top 25 at the end of the season, after they lose to us. We will give the MWC three losing programs(at least this year)

Watched the Vikings game yesterday. So sad that fans booed when Favre left the field with a bleeding chin.

  104. Garret November 1, 2010 9:08 am

    Pomai,

For the 2008-2011 BCS evaluation period, BSU already was ranked high in 2008 and 2009. Even if UH blows out BSU, they will *still* be ranked very high this season. Even if TCU wanted to leave, they still will count for this evaluation period so the MWC has enough ranked teams.

For the 2010-2013 evaluation period, the MWC needs ranked teams. BSU will be in the top 25 this season no matter what happens against UH. Actually we *want* BSU ranked highly to help UH’s SOS…the final 3 games are against teams ranked so lowly in the computers that UH could drop in the rankings even if they blow all 3 teams out (that happened to BSU).

  105. Kazz blogging via DROID X November 1, 2010 9:08 am

    Pomai,

National title or not, a lot of softball teams dont have the money to fly out to Hawaii.

Imagine no home softball games at Mano during the months of April and May. Likewise, UH softball would garner a larger deficit due to extended travel, not to mention the obscene amount of class time the players would miss.

Then factor in the NCAA bid to the tournment working against them as an independent.

  106. Pomai November 1, 2010 9:09 am

One other thing I noticed at the stadium is that these young chicks are getting more rowdy then the guys. LOL

  107. Garret November 1, 2010 9:11 am

HawaiiMongoose explained in another forum that if La Tech goes to the C-USA and Montana doesn’t move up to D-IA, then the WAC would have just 7 teams after adding the Texas schools. That means that the WAC would no longer be considered a football conference and all WAC teams would be classified as football independents.

If this is correct, then UH might go indy for football in 2012 because there would be no football in the WAC…wow.

I’m glad that the Big East meetings are tomorrow. It is best to get all this stuff past us early in the week and then just focus on BSU.

  108. RedZone November 1, 2010 9:13 am

congrats to Silva and Moniz. i think Silva and Paredes should be on the All WAC team.

  109. Pomai November 1, 2010 9:14 am

Kazz you are correct that we would have to help with the travel, but they are saying the same thing for going to the Big West.

Also I would guess that a lot of schools wouldn’t mind coming here to see if they could knock off the National Champs.

I guess there are good points and bad on any way we go.

I agree that there are way too many stadium advertisements. The commercials are during time outs and changes of possession since every game is on TV. If UH would pay rent, then there COULD be fewer stadium advertisements. Probably not, though. The Stadium Authority needs to make money. UH doesn’t want to pay rent, nor deal with the structural issues the stadium has, which is why the university is not concerned about taking over the stadium. I don’t blame them. I wouldn’t want to inherit my daddy’s business and realize it’s $180 million in debt. So until there is a new multi-use facility or on campus stadium built, there will always be the advertisements, which bring down the game day atmosphere.

  111. geevum November 1, 2010 9:16 am

Going independent would be suicide. We’d have more than half a dozen games a year with schools like Charleston Southern or the Northeast Texas Institute for Hair & Makeup. We might as well drop down a division or two ourselves. We have to face the facts that nobody wants to come out here every other year. And nobody wants to play us, even if we go to them, in the middle of their conference season. The WAC is not ideal, but at least it’s not plain dumb.

  112. Garret November 1, 2010 9:18 am

The *only* way that independence makes sense is if TV pays enough money. I saw reports that BYU will be getting $8 million from TV as an independent and they were getting $1.3 million from the MWC TV deal. That makes independence work out nice for them financially, of course.

Volleyball and softball would get a single penny more if they went independent. The teams they play against wouldn’t make any extra money playing UH, and UH wouldn’t be able to pay huge guarantees to get teams to travel to Hawaii. So, independence for those sports makes no sense. EVERY school loses money on softball and almost all schools lose money on volleyball…they aren’t looking to lose more.

UH gets $400k from the WAC TV deal and it would have been just $325k if UH didn’t get $75k for moving the USC game to a Thursday. *If* a TV network would give UH a decent TV deal (say, 1/3 what BYU got at a minimum), it could be feasible for UH to go indy. If no TV outlet is interested, then UH cannot go indy. Before this season, ESPN didn’t care about UH because UH didn’t perform on the field…now, ESPN and the rest of the media (NY Times, etc.) is starting to take notice. Beat BSU and UH’s options will multiply.

They should move the band back to the mauka sideline as suggested.

The “Super BOWzooka” is absolutely lame. It lacks coolness and effectiveness. The single shot BOWzooka with shoulder harness looked like a true bazooka. It looked BADA$$ This super one looks like a super trash can. Farmers Insurance you reading this???

How’s about getting all the fans thunderstix? My bad. The old folk who donate tons will get irritated and mad.

Despite what some may say, I thought the 10 minute WAVE was cool. Funny as heck and though it may be a little outdated, with barely over 35,000 in the house and a lead of over 30, to the caller that called fan phones and said we shouldn’t do it on offense–LAME. If our offense can’t hear play calling during a WAVE and with only 35K in house then we got bigger problems.

The tossing of Jack Antenna Balls was lame. Kinda hard to toss a ball that is super light and will only go a few feet. Now if they could get the Super BOWzooka to fire those things up to the yellow then that would be cool. I’m down with the card that says I’m a VIP. In fact even though I got into the stadium a little late. I was a VIP 8 times!

Marketing department went from The Rock to Maa Tanuvasa. Nothing against the former Bow but we went from potentially Ruth Chris to Jack’s Beef Jerky.

Anyone hear JD’s interview with BC this morning? Reading between the lines it sounds like we are staying in the WAC. He hyped Texas State and Texas-SA and spoke of the difficulties of independence. As someone commented above, it very might well be WAC for now.

Article from Nevada’s newspaper on Kapernick

Good Kap is back. Colin Kaepernick had a very efficient evening, rushing for 102 yards and a touchdown and completing 10-of-15 passes for 190 yards and two more scores. And he did all that despite getting benched for 11 plays in the first quarter. The way he came back and played well after getting benched (coach Chris Ault was seen on national television on the sideline yelling at his star quarterback) showed just how much of a great leader Kaepernick truly is. He could have sulked, let the benching bother him and played poorly. But he was solid the rest of the night. He didn’t do much in the second half (he didn’t run the ball once and completed just 2-of-3 passes) but he managed the game brilliantly. Kaepernick’s performance was in direct contrast to his last outing in Hawaii two weeks ago when he was Bad Kap, throwing two interceptions and fumbling the ball away twice. The Kap we saw Saturday is the Kap that is the best quarterback in school history: Efficient, explosive and cool under pressure.

Hawaii D isnt getting no love still.

Somebody out there in media-land is keeping an eye on this game:

Best coordinator chess match: Hawaii offensive coordinator Nick Rolovich vs. Boise State defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski. Hawaii leads the nation in pass offense, but to pull the upset, the Warriors are going to have to effectively mix in the run to keep Boise honest. Boise is No. 3 in total defense, No. 8 in pass defense and No. 19 in pass efficiency defense. The Broncos are going to move the ball and score at least in the 30s against Hawaii; that means the Warriors’ offense must keep pace, and Rolovich’s play-calling is going to be more important than usual. In its 18-point loss to a mediocre Colorado team, Hawaii finished with just 7 rushing yards. That number needs to increase by 100 if the Warriors are to beat Boise.

For those of you who use this blog – and others as well – to express your opinions about issues such as too many advertisements during the game or the placement of the band and students, why don’t your direct your comments to the people who actually have the power to do something about these issues.

Note that I am not talking about what conference to stay in or who should be invited but rather about the business aspects of running the Department of Athletics and the Aloha Stadium.

Trust me on this one – there are a tholusand #1 concerns out there ranging from civil unions to renewable energy to improving public education. If someone wants his/her #1 issue not just heard but acted upon, then it’s necessary to organize, educate & inform.

Within the next couple of weeks, the State House and Senate leadership will be pretty clear and I will post the chairs of the four committees in each body which will oversee any change in How We Do Things Around Here. If there is any interest in creating an advocacy group here, then I will be glad to help folks form one here.

One quick correction: The University of Hawai`i is open to taking over control of Aloha Stadium but on their terms. Frankly, if Duke Aiona wins on Tuesday, don’t expect change; however, should Neil win, there will be ample opportunity to discuss these issues.

I agree that if done right marketing the school would work. Focusing the efforts are the key. If UH plays, in any sport, only one or two games a year somewhere on the east coast then it may not matter that much how well the school markets itself out there. There are Hawaii folk all over the place of course, but many Hawaii kids leave for the mainland to go to school. In many cases they stay on the mainland but their school affiliation is now for the school that they attended rather than UH, which should be expected. There may be plenty of polynesians on the mainland, but in places like Utah they are more likely to be BYU fans than UH fans.

My point is just that it would be easier to market the school if the teams played in the main pockets of Hawaii expatriots. That game against Wazzu in Seattle was pretty nice. For sure there were more Hawaii fans than had the game been in Pullman.

There should be a scheduling focus for away non-conference games for where there are larger population centers of Hawaii people — and not just in football. If there are at least 10 plate lunch places in the area and a few ukulele clubs that is probably a good place to start. I also like the idea of neutral site games that Garret has talked about a few times. Why not play a neutral site game against Navy in San Diego, or against BYU in Phoenix, or Notre Dame in San Francisco at the Stick? Make sure it is city that Hawaiian serves and that fans from Hawaii might want to visit. Las Vegas might be a good site too, but the other cities have several stadium options.

Anyway, JD is going to have to continue to think outside the box to advance the department.

Re: #95 That’s one of the main reason I chose PPV. Paying for 3 season tickets in Section M, Orange, since 1970 , plus $200/seat premium, fighting for parking, then being disabled (in a wheelchair) and unable to get handicap parking close to the stadium, and finally, a lot of people being inconsiderate of wheelchair fans convinced us to give up our season tickets. For me PPV was ‘heaven sent.’

Reading USA Today it was interesting to note that Mr. Lopresti (sp?) in his comment regarding undefeated teams pointed out the Nov. 26th date between Nevada and BSU as being the one to watch while looking at the coming weekends match up between Utah and TCU as the other big match up. We beat Nevada, they remain in the polls and there is still no respect for the Warriors for their match up this Saturday. If that is not motivation I don’t know what is!

What does this team have to do the get more respect?

  143. rage777 November 1, 2010 10:04 am

The reason why BYU, Notre Dame, and the military schools can go independent is simple: there are Mormons and Catholics throughout the country, just like the military. They all have an identity to people even if they didn’t attend the university. If you were in the Navy and didn’t go to the Naval Academy, you would root for Navy over most teams. If you were a Mormon, you would probably root for BYU more than say Notre Dame. Hawaii has an identity, but that is as a vacation location not a sports team. I remember when the University of Miami was an independent and they won national championships as an independent, but they still accepted the ACC invitation.

When I tell people I am from Hawaii, they always ask “Why would you leave?” They don’t see it as a sports state like Texas or California.

Liz is right, the best thing to do is have a winning tradition just like our women’s volleyball. I didn’t know Boise State even had a football team until 2000, but now everybody knows about the team.

UH needs to make this a family oriented team, the fan base is getting way too old. They need to make it really cheap for a family of four or five to come to the stadium. JD needs to take the Jerry Buss solution and make going to UH sports a family friendly and fun atmosphere. I remember going to watch men’s and women’s volleyball and also watching Alan Hackbarth. That was very entertaining, even the volleyball players would turn around to watch him.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and you do countless hours of volunteer work which is commendable.

However, let’s be fair in all the assumptions as you believe that if Abercrombie wins there will be ample discussion, but if Duke wins there will be no change. That is your opinion, which you are entitled to…..but I believe that if either candidate wins, there will be an opportunity for discussion. To say otherwise is really going out on a limb and stretching what little truth if any to that presumption.

The Democrats have always controlled the Legislature, if my memory serves me correctly, so how is it entirely upon the Governor’s office? You can explain that to me the next time we run into each other.

All I am saying is that whomever gets into office will be open for discussion, plain and simple, unless of course you know something we don’t?

This means that if the WAC loses any team (say, La Tech leaves) that the WAC will not be a football conference anymore and UH and every other WAC member will be recognized as an independent.

I think Coach Mac and his entourage have what it takes to beat Peterson and his entourage. It’s a matter of recruits, game planning, and execution. If the WAC wasn’t falling apart I think we would be on extremely solid footing insofar as our football program was concerned… right now, however, I’m worried about the caliber or recruits we might be getting.. That’s why, at least to me, this weekend’s game is huge.. Everybody loves a winner and wants to be part of a winning team.

  156. al November 1, 2010 10:32 am

    yup, tom and pomai.

i’ve been saying for years now, that not having the center railing in the aisle ways is like having an intersection with a malfunctioning traffic light.

each game i watch as two elder couples with walking sticks go up and down past me clutching each other as they carefully navigate those steps. they are obviously long time season ticket holders. to compound matters they seem to have the need to have a “5-4-4” break at least twice per game.

this past game a somewhat inebriated fellow was stumbling down the steps and nearly landed in my lap had i not caught him before he flopped. he got up and stumbled some more and then turned around to head back up only to run into the steinlager hawker who saved him from further embarassment.

and then every game some healthy, sober persons also stumble on those specially spaced steps.

sitting on the aisle i get to watch a lot of this game in and game out.

one day someone will take a very bad spill because of the lack of railings. i guess i could refer them to tom for litigation purposes.

Interesting stuff from the Idaho Statesman newspaper this morning. Boise starting TE Tommy Gallarda is out for the season after having surgery on his foot. Also, the Boise fans are starting to second guess the schools move to the MWC pending the possible departure of TCU down the road. Many feel the move from the WAC is diminshed with the loss of Utah, BYU, and possibly TCU. Fans feel the BSU should patch things up with WAC and stay along with Fresno and Nevada. In addition, convince two MWC schools to leave and join the WAC. Warriors keep winning and the dominoes will fall in your place, WAC – MWC merger of the top teams! Both leagues cannot survive without the other. As they say, “partners in crime”, Benson and Thompson!

garret…interestingly, jim donovan said this morning that montana has yet to receive their feasibility study by some firm that they have contracted and they are expecting to hear from them later this week.

the article does not mention that montana has made a decision. so i think that the possibility is still there.

jd also stated this morning that seattle and denver were two solid non-football programs that would enhance the non-football sports and it seemed that they will join the wac. the two texas teams are still awaiting the phone call from the wac and it appears they are poised to become wac members.

however, like he said a lot depends on what else falls out in the months to come.

  167. d1島 November 1, 2010 10:46 am

Interesting stuff I found awhile back from SmartFootball.com. Since it’s game week…

Boise specializes in getting defenses out of position to make plays by utilizing the three major essentials in offensive football: numbers, leverage and grass. “Numbers” means outnumbering the defense at the point of attack — i.e. more blockers than defenders on the edge, more receivers than zone defenders, etc. “Leverage” refers to out-flanking a defense at the point of attack — i.e. you may not have numbers but the angles are on your side. “Grass” harkens to Willie Keeler’s baseball adage, “hit ‘em where they ain’t.” Run the ball where there are the fewest defenders.

  169. d1島 November 1, 2010 10:48 am

Jeff Choate, once told me at coaching clinic two years back, “We run plays, we don’t have an offense. It makes it difficult to defend.” At that time he was working with the running backs.

  170. madeinhawaii November 1, 2010 10:48 am

Har! Imagine if Boise, Nevada and Fresno stayed in the WAC and the four we invited along with Montana joined? Two divisions, can split the FCS upgrades between the two halves. We’d have an expanded TV market and a blossoming future. Can put in for an early Xmas wish, eh?

    Bulla:

Sports & politics ae intertwined – not just in Hawai`i but everywhere in this country.

Read http://www.staradvertiser.com/sports/20101101_gubernatorial_candidates_address_stadium_concerns.html for statements from the candidates themselves. I did not read the article until after I made my post in #134.

As someone who “lives” on one side or another of Punchbowl Street throughout the year and who spends a significant part of my time working on educational & economic development issues – including attending dozens of meetings & hearings every month and spending a lot of time doing legal research – my statements above are a lot more than opinion.

What happened “back then” is very different than the way things are now. Yes, the Democrats have controlled the Legislature for over 50 years, but their tent is very, very huge plus there has also been a huge gap between “town and gown” for decades.

There are still a number of business leaders think that what goes on up there in Manoa is not relevant to what goes on downtown – even though they may even be season ticket holders. As I said a few days ago, I am struck at how many major business players in Hawai`i do not get the connection between strong academic and strong athletic programs in D-1A schools.

Jim Donovan has done an excellent job of educating & informing policy-makers, but the politics of money – revenues from taxes and generating jobs, parimarily in the service industries – is what drives most – not all – of the decisions.

The playing field is kind of rocky and the rules often change – especially dealing with money – but sitting on the sidelines or watching the action from afar has zippodenada impact on what happens downtown.

Yes, there will be change, but the change we want to see happen will be determined by who is elected on Tuesday and how much the people who care about these issues are willing

    to get involved.

  173. d1島 November 1, 2010 10:50 am

Sure, offensive coordinators give lip service about taking shots, but most play it close to the vest during crunch time. Not Petersen and the Bronco staff. They’ll pull the trigger with any play at any time and are willing to live with the consequences — though most have been quite positive.

  174. d1島 November 1, 2010 10:55 am

The post was from prior to VTech’s game against B$-You and ends with “How to stop them”…

…well, we know how that worked out but, nonetheless, the three points boiled down to:

    1) Pressure Moore: TCU was the only team to do all season last year. Although they couldn’t get to him, they pressured him into plenty of incompletions- his 58 percent completion percentage in the Fiesta Bowl was ten percentage points lower than his average. Moore is lethal when he’s in his comfort zone.

    2) Come up with simple adjustments to their motion package: No matter how you slice it, Boise will come out with one of four types of formations, each based on eligible receivers: 2×2 (four wides, three wides and a tight-end, two wides and two tightends, etc), 3×1 (trips), 3×2 (no backs), and unbalanced sets. After studying Boise’s film, I noticed that only their fullbacks and tight ends shift and motion on each play, which limits the teaching (for the offense) to just focusing on those players. But it also helps the defense in their preparation.

    3) Die Slowly: It sounds pessimistic, but is essentially what must go by to succeed against BSU: let Boise work for their yards; don’t give up the big play; and don’t get caught up in all the misdirection post-snap.

Chee Hoo…that is the problem with the WAC schools from the get go. They don’t have the foresight and commitment to “BUILD” the conference. Most are all too willing to run away and join something “in progress” rather than stay and deliver a much improved product.

MWC are all former WAC schools so go figure that one. Power plays, money, and lack of commitment = conference that will not be a contender anytime soon.

If those schools had made the commitmtnet to build the conference we would be knocking on the BCS door a long time ago. You keep winning and producing a good quality conference, the BCS will not be able to ignore you.

If Fresno, Fosie, Nevada, Hawaii and some other up and coming programs keep busting the other conferences, the WAC can build it’s self into a much respected conference. Never mind if we just beat the lower tier teams of the PAC10, SEC or what ever, by doing so we give recognition to the program and the conference.

Hawaii 9-0 could have been. That would have been so awesome..

  177. madeinhawaii November 1, 2010 10:57 am

I really like our chances this weekend … similar to our 2006 meeting when we had defense and an ever improving offense, too… just gotta eliminate the errors and execute cleanly on offense. Maybe avoid the short passes over the middle in the red zone.. too many tipped passes of late… the opposition defense is learning to raise their arms.

So I agree with Garret that Montana is not coming to the WAC.

Boise State is a heavy favorite winning 91% of simulations over Hawaii. Kellen Moore is averaging 309 passing yards and 2.7 TDs per simulation and Doug Martin is projected for 138 rushing yards and a 80% chance of having at least 1 rushing TD. In the 9% of simulations where Hawaii wins, Bryant Moniz averages 2.59 TD passes vs 0.75 interceptions, while in losses he has a ratio of 1.24 TDs to 1.08 interceptions. Alex Green averages 55 rushing yards and 0.71 rushing TDs when Hawaii wins and 49 yards and 0.42 TDs in losses. Boise State has a 50% chance of forcing more turnovers than they commit. Positive turnover margin helps them win 97% of the time. SPREADS / TOTALS: Current Point Spread is BST -22.5

    http://accuscore.com/game-forecast-previews/ncaaf/gameid,485/

Doesn’t 50% chance mean that UH also has a 50% chance?

Warriors got to win the turnover battle.

  189. Sorry BB,

Dwayne Johnson has NOTHING to do with University of Hawaii football.

Ma’a Tanuvasa was a Rainbow Warrior, won himself some Super Bowl rings.

I’d be more pumped with a former Rainbow Warrior bringing out the team onto the field. It shows respect for the past connecting with the present.

  190. NCAA November 1, 2010 11:29 am

It’s only a violation of the rules to bet for certain individuals and the location on where the bets are placed.

Regarding public perception, I don’t think many out there in the public (mainland) know the Warriors started the season 1-2. I think their perception is based on what I call no perception. Not many on the mainland follow Warrior football and could care less how the team from the Pacific does against non-impact programs.

Beat Boise and then we’ll see if perceptions change.

As far as no respect, I didn’t follow the Warriors in their Sugar Bowl journey but losing to Georgia did not help in building respect. Losing big to Wisconsin to end last season did not help build respect. If the Warriors can win consistently against the BCS teams that they play against then I think they will earn that respect from the polls and Vegas.

Their blue field better be bluer than blue! (Hurry up repaint the damn thing! Still get time!)

During the game, when things go right, I want it to fuel their confidence! I want their energy to double!! When things start to go wrong, I want Boise to adjust their game plan, reload and come after us hungrier than ever! (And if gotta cheat, please by all means, CHEAT!!! Ainokea!)

Al, that 27 points was put up by the Las Vegas Sports Center, not a bookie joint, the first points by the books were 22 and 23. All the other books put up their spread Monday morning and it’s 21 1/2 to 22. So the betting can be made after the books put the spread, meaning this a.m. You’re right, the gamblers luv Hawaii and IMO the spread going drop as Saturday approaches. But the heavy betting going be prior to game time when they know who going to pasly (injuries etc). As for me, I study the trends, the ats, who they played, the point scored and allowed and then flip a coin…heads this team, tails that team. IMUA Warriors.

From Ian Lind’s October 31 blog post:

Years ago, after attending an annual conference of Investigative Reporters & Editors, and picking up a number of investigative hints, I returned to Hawaii and made a list of so-called “sacred cows”, institutions that have a big impact but are rarely subject to scrutiny or, worse, are considered off-limits for political or economic reasons.

My short list included health insurer HMSA, and the UH athletics department. The latter led to a 1997 series, “The Money Game,” tracking money that at that time flowed through booster organizations to fuel slush funds for athletics.

Does anyone here remember the series and what happened afterwards?

  220. A-House November 1, 2010 12:33 pm

    Possible scenario:

TCU makes an early commitment to re-join C-USA thus making the MWC greatly “diluted” with the top 3 football schools gone.

Now, along comes the 3 WAC defectors who sit and realize that the MWC may no longer be the best place to be – greener grass now turning brown! Then, one or more reverses their decision and request staying in the WAC – what penalties will be assessed, if any?

Now, the WAC looks like an AQ contender with BSU, UH, Nevada, and Fresno as top tier football programs. Then, UNLV/SDSU/UTEP quit the MWC and request entry into the WAC. Simultaneously, the 2 “Texas schools” are extended/accept invitations to join the WAC. LaTech decides to move.

WAC can now form 2 football divisions with BSU and Nevada leading the “north” and UH and Fresno St heading the “south”. This will make traveling to Hawaii much more bearable if scheduling is once every 3 or 4 years.

I need to express my opinion that I disagree with Jim D that the WAC should not sit and wait for others to make the conference moves (reactive) – WAC should do it NOW (pro-active). Is this option on the table?

And, speaking of TV audience potential, has any school made a survey of attendance playing Hawaii versus other schools? Is there a spike in attendance? How much? The Sugar Bowl was an exception, but when nearly 20-25000 Hawaii fans show up, there must be something of interest to determine number of viewers. For example, my best estimate of Hawaii fans to West point must have approached 1,000 or more just from Panda, Ala World, World Wide, and Non-Stop Travel. Speaking with several West Point staff, they were taken-a-back by the number of Hawaii fans who took the long trip to see the game. Panda Travel people alone nearly “bought out” the West Point version of Rainbowtique.

Probably the same number at Colorado.

As others have posted, it will take a hell-of-a marketing plan to pique the interest on the mainland. Agree, that winning is a primary contributor of making “points”. But, there are other measures – and, as the Mayor of New Orleans stated, “thank you Miami, for not selecting Hawaii” to play in your Orange Bowl. To this day, I wonder how much $$$ was spent by Hawaii fans in NOLA.

Just a thought from a clueless wahine –

If “conventional wisdom” is that home field advantage is worth 3 pts, then Smurf Turf advantage is worth 10 pts?

  229. HawaiiMongoose November 1, 2010 12:48 pm

Re #221, we take Aloha Stadium for granted. It’s easy to complain about the rust, lack of parking, funky color scheme, etc., but it’s great to have such a large stadium so centrally located with all theatre-style seats. Most mainland stadiums offer primarily bench seating and sitting on an aluminum bench for four hours is not easy on the okole.

  230. wafan November 1, 2010 12:52 pm

Congratulations to Moniz and Silva! Well deserved!!!

    Whoo-hoo!!!

  231. d1島 November 1, 2010 12:53 pm

    HGoose,

I guess that’s why so many fans on the mainland stand for the entire game?

  232. al November 1, 2010 12:53 pm

and finally moniz gets his due.

i would be surprised if corey paredes is not the defensive player of year for the wac.

  233. NCAA November 1, 2010 12:54 pm

    Ms. jm2375,

    3.85 points.

  234. al November 1, 2010 12:55 pm

seems like the coach mack show has been good to the spotlighted players.

didn”t paredes, green, and now silva get pow recognition following their day on stage?

so this week it was rolo…hmmm.

  235. Pomai,

Who cares when Neil had a doobie?

Im sure most people are concerned with when the kids can have a normal school schedule again.

Of course the private school folk aren’t too concerned as it doesn’t apply to them.

  236. d1島 November 1, 2010 12:55 pm

…also, it’s a good revenue stream in those stadiums where “premium seating” means you get a back rest to attach to your designated bleacher spot! (IIRC you can rent ’em in BOI for $10)

  237. al November 1, 2010 12:56 pm

    speaking of rolo.

i hope we can hang to him and aranda for at least two more years. they could be stars of future in the coaching ranks.

  238. al November 1, 2010 12:57 pm

i think the hawaii home team advantage is close to 7 points.

  239. NCAA November 1, 2010 12:58 pm

No disrespect to Silva but I think the UH guy should have nominated Paredes again.

  240. haawarrior November 1, 2010 12:59 pm

RE #229-I with you HawaiiMongoose-Last years Reno game was the first time I actually traveled out of state to watch the Warriors. My first reaction to the metal bleachers was, “Is this a high school stadium?”

  241. madeinhawaii November 1, 2010 12:59 pm

All this excitement for the upcoming game… you gotta love it! The only game in town is back again.. and riding the surf and looking good! Thank YOU Coach Mack!!

Vote Coach Mack to the Rank that you’d like our Warrior team to be by the end of this season.

  242. A-House November 1, 2010 1:01 pm

I vote for UH playing a game in Texas against LSU or Mississippi or Mississippi St with UH as the home team to begin the 2014 or 2015 season.

Recruting possibilities? Invite all players and parents to the game – just watch the NCAA “eyes”.

  243. d1島 November 1, 2010 1:02 pm

“Private school folk” are concerned with trying to earn (and keep) enough to keep their kids out of a dysfunctional skool system that keeps sucking in $B and spewing out poor results. I woulda loved to save all that $ if I had confidence in the DOE after #1 and #2 got thru el skool.

  245. al November 1, 2010 1:08 pm

upon listening to donovan this morning discussing the future of hawaii football, he seems to be going away from independency as the pac12 and big12 (who now have 10) had announced that they will play 9 conference games next year thus reducing the number of non-con games.

he doesn’t play all his cards in public, but, knowing jim you know he has plan a, b, c, d, e, f, etc. under his sleeve. i am sure that he is doing the ho’omalimali 24/7 with all possible players.

the next six months will probably determine where we stand and where we could go.

i for one would embrace a big west conference affiliation for all non-football sports with the football program treading water in the wac until something big happens. we may have to endure the trickle down effects of the bcs, but, in the meantime if we keep winning then we place ourselves in a favorable position.

  246. NCAA November 1, 2010 1:10 pm

Parents should be involved in their child’s education habits whether they are in private or public school. Too often parents solely blame the school system yet do nothing to foster their child(ren)in their learning potential.

  247. d1島 November 1, 2010 1:10 pm

Does the WAC remain viable if Hawaii drops out of all other sports except FB?

  248. Souljah November 1, 2010 1:11 pm

Like previous people suggested….if UH stays in the WAC:

Leave Football in WAC play with an exempt clause to never have to play Latech, therefore we will have another opportunity for a big OOC game.

Move all the rest of the sports to the Big West.

This scenario only plays out with UH having leaverage with the WAC…and of course the Big West’ blessing

  249. al November 1, 2010 1:12 pm

as the song goes….”who knows what tomorrow brings…”

the mwc could be in bad shape if tcu leaves soon.

do you see the mwc and the wac merging to form a new conference?

or worst case scenario taking the good from the bad to form a new conference without the likes of the cellar dwellars and the likes of the far reaching campuses? (they did this to us before)

yup, our only cure is to win. this saturday’s game looms larger than life for our football program.

    can we win…yes, we can.

  250. d1島 November 1, 2010 1:13 pm

    NCAA,

We were (and remain) very involved but the more we saw, the scarier it got!

It’s good to be there as a parent in helping with your child’s education but at some point you’d like the skool to kick in a little, too!

  251. al November 1, 2010 1:14 pm

    how important is saturday?

a win puts us in the top twenty. we should win out the rest of the games and could end there in the top twenty at year’s end.

a win in the hawaii bowl would then seal the deal for our top twenty finish.

it could put us in a position to at least be considered for a lot reorganizational talks.

  252. d1島 November 1, 2010 1:16 pm

Does the WAC retain its MBB tourney spot without Hawaii?

  253. al November 1, 2010 1:18 pm

and yah…that colorado loss was so damaging.

  254. al November 1, 2010 1:21 pm

d1…i think that the wac is wary of hawaii doing a football only thing and thus the reasoning for inviting denver and seattle.

they have, i believe, one year after the departure of nevada and fresno st to keep the auto bid as long as they have six active mbb members.

  255. al November 1, 2010 1:21 pm

so picking up at least two mbb wac members helps the other sports.

  256. skycap November 1, 2010 1:24 pm

For those of you that order UH PPV should call Oceanic and Question them why they have

Commercial on PPV it should be Commercial free,

If you want to show commercial move the game back to K5 , then we all can watch it for free,

  257. NCAA November 1, 2010 1:24 pm

    Mr. d1島,

Like the football conferences, I guess it depends on what public school district and school you live in.

    Mr. al,

Given the lack of respect, a win on Saturday would put the Warriors in the 21st position. lol

    Back to Mr. d1島,

Yes, where does that leave the WAC in non-fb sports? Should UH take that into consideration? Of course they should! If the future is the WAC for football then the future should be the WAC for all other sports too (sans MVB and WWP). That’s what I think.

  258. LizKauai m/ November 1, 2010 1:26 pm

    Hmmm. collaboration with the stakeholders.

What if we just design our games around non-stop flight destinations.

    Lemmesee.

    Vegas

    Phoenix

    Manila

    Tokyo

    LA

    Portland

    Seattle

    Oakland

    Sacramento

    Pago Pago

    San Diego

    Papeete

    Busan

    Sydney

    you get my drift… 😉

  259. We keep hearing about how UH needs to do what is best for itself, and it’s apparent through the checkbook that we should try to make “big body” and push the WAC to allow football to stay while we join the Big West for all other sports.

The savings on travel for our non-revenue sports would be fashionable even WITH travel subsidies from our end.

I know it’s by WAC law that you must have football, men’s and women’s basketball to be a WAC member, but let’s cut a deal here!!!!!!!!!

  260. madeinhawaii November 1, 2010 1:33 pm

For all we know.. Montana might still come in… maybe not as a football member for the first year.. but for other sports? Idaho, Utah State, NMSU, SJSU, LaTech, Hawaii make up the core teams that have played D1 sports together for 5 years or longer.. I maybe wrong but I think if any 0ne of them pull out, that automatic bid in MBB is gone. La Tech leaving is a real possibility, Utah State, too. Who should be left pulling the Wagon, UH?

  261. NCAA,

The “norm” went flying out the window along with Fresno State and Nevada’s olos.

From our perspective UH should have the leverage on the WAC.

  262. A-House November 1, 2010 1:35 pm

    Pomai:

Looks like our pre-season predicition of 11 – 2 is becoming true.

I will go a step further and say 12 – 2 with Hawaii Bowl Win over SMU!

Thus, UH 2011 opening game against Colorado will go a long way to another bowl game – hopefully, a BCS one!!!!!!

  263. jm2375 November 1, 2010 1:35 pm

    d1 – #252 – who cares?

  264. NCAA November 1, 2010 1:36 pm

    Kazz,

Sometimes when you make big body it’s all show. Look what happened to Benson.

Yeah, it’s the ones who make big body that gets slapped around.

  265. A-House November 1, 2010 1:39 pm

    Kazz:

your #259 – did not the deal with BYU of no football and all other sports already set a prescedence

on altering the WAC football, men’s and women’s basketball must be in the WAC? or, it it because BYU would NOT be a WAC member? That, did not come out right!

  266. madeinhawaii November 1, 2010 1:40 pm

Even if Hawaii was to get an invite to the Big West, though. It wouldn’t be for another year. So, the WAC still stands as it is for another year….

I really want the Warriors to beat Boise and have that much more leverage in negotiating with the rest of the WAC.

  267. madeinhawaii November 1, 2010 1:41 pm

Uh has till the end of June to make a firm decision.

  268. NCAA,

Me no sabe, e no tell, me press button go like hell!!

    Warriors to win on 11/6/2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, for Mo and Silva!!!!!!! Do we sense a shift in “making” Hawaii the mule’s back for the WAC to ride on? 3 consecutive weeks where a UH player has won the DPOW and 2 weeks of OPOW award. A tribute to the coaching staff and all players!!!!

  270. gigi-hawaii November 1, 2010 1:44 pm

I received a letter from Oceanic today, stating I could choose between getting a credit on my next bill because ppv will not show the BSU game (we will watch on ESPNU) OR donating the money to UHAD, because UHAD will lose money on one less ppv game.

I thought UHAD’s share of the ppv money was FIXED, i.e., the total could not be reduced regardless. Anybody else think this way?

  271. d1島 November 1, 2010 1:45 pm

    jmxxxx,

Goes with the previous question. Some like the idea of playing only FB in the WAC but if the conference implodes anyway, that option may not be viable.

  272. NorthShoreFan November 1, 2010 2:00 pm

What would happen if the NCAA made a ruling that:

#1 To qualify for a national championship title, you need to play all the schools in your conference to be designated as the conference champs.

#2 Only conference champions get consideration for national championship….etc…

So now you got a choice, go for the money or go for the “National Championship title”….jus wondering…

  273. d1島 November 1, 2010 2:03 pm

    al,

If the WAC gets the other two schools for MBB, then doesn’t the conference still need some kind of waiver from the NCAA to remain eligible?

What makes anyone think they would do that versus giving the ACC, SEC, Big 10, Big East another spot?

  274. Which is the quicker ‘death’? Independency or staying in the WAC?

All I know is, for UH football, it needs a conference and the other sports need UH football.

Is the logic behind all of this right? Not really, but that is the reality.

  275. Kaimuki Kid November 1, 2010 2:13 pm

My only big worry is the effect of conference alignment will have on our recruiting for 2010, if a decision is not made soon. I do get that patience will give a better picture, but just a little worried about recruiting for next year

  276. Pomai November 1, 2010 2:15 pm

  277. Kaimuki Kid November 1, 2010 2:16 pm

As for advertising during the game, I feel like it’s a fact of life. Revenue has to come from somewhere, but maybe a little softer on the volume.

  278. Pomai November 1, 2010 2:18 pm

Kaimuki Kid as they say timing is everything!!!!!!!!

  279. Kaimuki Kid November 1, 2010 2:21 pm

Parking lot security has to do a better job of telling people not to use the stall next to them to tailgate and people coming late to the game should be smart enough not drive a HUGE SUV or EXTENDED CAB TRUCK and expect to fit in the parking stalls.

  280. Some “kind” words from Boise State fans:

BSU needs to destroy Hawaii. Hawaii is I think our worst matchup of the year. We just play the wrong type of defense for the run and shoot. We give such a cushion it drives me crazy and leave 1 on 1 matchups on the outside all the time. If we can destroy them that will I think set the tone for us to overtake TCU in the polls yet again. We are significantly better than TCU against top BCS teams. Mainly because our offense has always faired significantly better against top defenses and our defense is very compareable to TCU although they are better.

    ==========

Asking BSU to blowout Hawaii is asking the impossible…..USC couldn’t even do it. All that BSU should be expected to do is win. The pollsters are going to compare our game to TCU’s game. I suspect we will lose votes which is unfair.

    ==========

Hawaii has won 6 straight games and if they played Utah right now i would put my money on Hawaii.

    ============

Don’t get your hopes up. Coach Pete seems to think they’re a tougher opponent than most give them credit for.

    ===========

He also gave his thoughts about style points in his presser today. He said he was in the locker room when some national talking heads were saying the Broncos had to win big and win clean from here on out. CP thought, “no we don’t. That’s just not our style.” And one of the players said “whatever happened to just winning?”

    #276 Tsaiko politics?

QUESTION: Was Neil part of the Vietnam protests in the 1960s and 70s on the University of Hawaii at Manoa campus, including the burning of the Army ROTC building.

ANSWER: NO. Neil was NOT involved in the protests against the Vietnam War on the University of Hawaii campus, including the arson of the Army ROTC building.

According to the Honolulu Advertiser, the anti-Vietnam War protests on the UH campus started in 1967 when a group called the Student Partisan Alliance proposed that young men should sabotage U.S. military forces. On May 20, 1968, about 200 students protested in front of Bachman Hall after then-University President Thomas Hamilton resigned. Demonstrators protested peacefully for two days before police arrested about 160 protestors.

During this time, Neil was traveling abroad in Europe and Africa.

In April 1970, demonstrators protesting the Vietnam War occupied the Army ROTC (Reserve Officers’ Training Corps) at the University of Hawaii for six days. Along with other university officials, Neil served as a liaison between UH President Harlan Cleveland and the Board of Regents and the demonstrators. As a graduate student in UH’s American Studies program, Neil helped negotiate the peaceful end of the ROTC sit-in.

In February 1971, protestors set fire to the building in the early morning hours, destroying two rooms and causing an estimated $65,000 in damage. Two men were arrested in connection with the burning, one woman was put on probation, and protest leader Rev. Robert Warner Jr. fled to the mainland to escape prosecution. Neil was not involved in this incident.

  284. Longboarder,

Christ… don’t get me started on Djou…. I’m going to stop before ST presses the “delete button”.

  285. Kaimuki Kid November 1, 2010 2:29 pm

I traveled to IOWA in 1991 for the UH game there. We parked on campus and it was about a 3/4 of mile walk to the stadium and we were charged $20 0r $25 for the right to park. I don’t know what they charge today. I think they should consider raising the price to park in the stadium and share the increased revenue with the university.

  286. longboarder November 1, 2010 2:30 pm

    My bad.

In thinking, I think my comment should be deleted.

Sorry, just trying to be funny. (But Duke did bully my uncle for money)

  287. More A-Typical Boise State comments:

We are a talented team but we have weaknesses and special teams seems to be one of them this year. Hawaii scares me and is very capable of the upset. It will be nice to have a WAC game that all my season ticket holder frieds have to actually come back from the parking lot and watch with me after halftime. Although I will miss the extra space to recline and watch the second and third string.

    ==========

    I am not concerned.

I am open to the idea that I may be wrong but I think Hawaii will get busted in the chops in the first half. How close the game ends up being is dependent on how they react to the butt kicking they take in the first half. With an experienced qb I expect they come back some in the second half, but not enough.

    ============

    Interesting take.

Hawaii is most certainly the best team we have faced since Oregon State. I really wish I could be in attendance but I will be helping Boise State in a different way this weekend.

With that said I think that Hawaii has easily their toughest opponent in Boise State. If you thought USC was good then you will be surprised by Boise State. If you have watched any USC games since the Hawaii game you will notice that they are pretty deficient on all sides of the ball. Boise State on the other hand looked very good in all areas minus kickoff and punt coverage. Unless Hawaii plans to make a living returning kickoffs after Bronco scores I highly suggest you look outside of special teams to make an accurate prognostication.

On offense we are unstoppable. Nevada’s offense can be stopped. The pistol is not nearly as diverse or effective as the Bronco offense. Moore > Special K every day of the week, history and statistics prove this. USC’s qb, a nobody, passed all over the Hawaii defense. Unfortunately for Hawaii Moore is significantly better than the USC no name guy.

Boise defense is stout. Top 5 and our dline is significantly better than USC’s or Nevada’s.

Don’t let our last game fool you. The LaTech game was mailed in on a cold, wet, Tuesday night. The Hawaii game will be a completely different story weather and timing wise. Cloudy and 62 is much different than windy in the 30-40’s. Saturday afternoon is different than Tuesday night.

Expect a louder more enthusiastic crowd and Bronco team than you saw against LaTech. Expect are more disciplined and talented team than USC or Nevada.

    ============

I believe that special teams may be the difference if this was a home game for Hawaii. The games here in Boise have been a different story, and I expect BSU to come out on fire for this game. Special teams will be the least of the Warriors worry on Saturday.

    =============

69-3….and we won’t have to come from behind

    #262… A-House…

We discussed how magical this year’s team could be too. I can’t stop imagining how we might’ve been, if our team was playing like now, but at the beginning of the season! And all this after all these experts said we’d finish 7th in the WAC!

It was a feeling we had about this team.

I’ve got this same feeling about our coaches. I think we can be a serious force next season, even more than this year. We’ll see how things go. I hope we move to keep our present coaching staff together, before people come in to steal them away. Let’s get on a nice, long roll of double-digit winning seasons and establish a solid base!

    Another hour for Hawaii Five-0.

Man, Kazz… lots of Boise fans sound just like the nationwide talking head experts they so despise! They are still looking at us as the team that opened against USC. Wow! And then they want to use the weather as an excuse for their struggles against LaTech? They still gave up nearly 400 yards to LaTech.

  295. Pomai November 1, 2010 2:52 pm

Anybody know when the team leaves this time around

    Hey Kazz

Guess who’s sideline reporter for ESPNU coverage of the game this weekend?

Hawaii at No. 4 Boise State

ESPNU: Pam Ward, Danny Kanell & Jessica Mendoza

The Boise game will prove Hawaii’s defense.

I kinda wish that it will snow just before the game and coat the field white and we switch to plain white jerseys and plain white pants…

  299. WHAT THE EFF????

WHY THE EFF IS JESSICA MENDOZA DOING SIDELINE COVERAGE FOR A FOOTBALL GAME????

I’D LOVE TO SEE THAT SKEPTICAL LITTLE —- ON THE BAD END OF A-OUT-OF-BOUNDS COLLISION.

  300. Ipu Man November 1, 2010 3:00 pm

    Yesterday’s USA today sports quotes:

KEYS TO THE GAME: Hawaii’s defense has played well lately, but it hasn’t seen an offense with the depth, diversity and experience of Boise State since at least the opener against USC — and the Trojans rolled offensively. Boise State’s defense, which ranks No. 3 in the nation, needs to do a better job against the pass this week than it did against Louisiana Tech.

    PLAYERS TO WATCH:

QB Kellen Moore — He has completed 69.8 percent of his passes with 18 touchdowns and two interceptions. He’s averaging 266.4 yards per game despite taking just a handful of fourth-quarter snaps in October.

WR Titus Young — The Broncos’ deep threat is averaging 17.6 yards per catch. He also leads the team with 650 yards, 92.9 per game.

S Jeron Johnson — His team lead in tackles is down to one. He has 39. He led the team by wide margins in each of the past two years but the play of the defensive line has cut down on Johnson’s chances.

    ROSTER REPORT:

–Several Broncos were injured during the Louisiana Tech game, and coach Chris Petersen hadn’t provided updates as of Sunday. The list includes tight end Tommy Gallarda, safety Jeron Johnson, safety Cedric Febis, defensive tackle Chase Baker, cornerback Brandyn Thompson and offensive guard Joe Kellogg.

–Kicker/punter Kyle Brotzman missed last week’s game with a leg injury and hasn’t punted in the past two games.

  303. Maybe ESPN assigned Mendoza to the Hawaii game to question the validity of Moniz’s arm?

Maybe Mendoza will be TWO-FACED self and smile in front of the cameras to praise UH’s passing yardage while questioning the length of UH’s home football field??????

  304. Not an Expert November 1, 2010 3:02 pm

I believe a conspiracy is at hand where the BCS (AQ teams) control the “nons”.

How can the nons be so stupid and idiotic. These nons all want to be the wanabes and jump for a chance when their turn is up. Although they may beat many BCS teams in any given year they are not allowed to play in the championship game all these past years. If one did and won guarantee they will be scooped up immediately by a BCS conference. AND if there are too many teams in the nons’s conference than they’ll pick whomever is necessary to not have them qualify.

Again if the MWC and the WAC were to work in alliance they would have been BCS qualified from 2 years ago minimum. If the plucking can be done by the BCS why are the nons so blind. Being this is a business why did the nons not create a corporation and make a BCS conference from teams like Utah, BYU, TCU, Boise and 4 to 5 other quality schools? Then their sub corporation to have the up and coming schools in another conference but financially the parent to help finance the survival and build up on the sub corporation and its teams. Again the commissioners are governed and manipulated by the BCS.

You need to be blind and an idiot not to see this is happening.

  305. Chee Hoo November 1, 2010 3:02 pm

UH will play pin the “loss” on the donkey this Saturday. Party all night long after the Donks tumble from the BCS echelon. UH 38 – Boise 27!

Watching the game on Saturday I was wondering to myself how fast does Hardy-Tuilau in the 40 yard dash, actually a better indicator the 10, and 25 yard dash. He seems to have a quick closing speed to the ball.

  310. Not An Expert,

Whenever there is that much money involved, ANYTHING is possible and the power brokers are the ones that would have the most interest in decreasing “possibilites” for others outside their “HUI”.

Oh well. She’s only doing sideline. Perhaps she can witness another shocker. But then again, I don’t think she was doing the Alabama game.

  312. madeinhawaii November 1, 2010 3:11 pm

Gotta shove Boise’s Center right up Moore’s face… when pressured, Moore’s effectiveness drops considerably.. The center has made a good number of bad snaps this season. Get into his head early and we might see a lot of mishandled snaps. DLine gotta get their hands up early to make it difficult for Moore to pass over the middle for those quick, less than two seconds, in-and-out patterns. Tip a few and make him think twice … get Moore and his receivers completely out of synch.

  313. LizKauai m/ November 1, 2010 3:12 pm

#306 – yeah, Kazz… and I’m REALLY WORRIED that the wear and tear on the Warriors is really going to stop them from playing their best on Saturday.

I mean, I am really praying that our backups will be strong enough to hold off those scary Boisies in blue and that they put in their reserves early and show mercy.

After all, we have to fly so FAR and you know how much Jet Lag factors into these away games…

But I don’t have to worry that Boise folks will get overconfident after reading this blog where we reveal all of our weaknesses because we know our opponents never lurk here, right?

  315. Re: John Hardy-Tuliau

I have made references to individual players in several sports in the past and I’ve made some half jokes/complimentary comments about them.

Truth be told though, is that I’ve made it a personal point to NOT favor ANY one player over another or place them on a pedestal like how some do and most do with professional athletes. If I do really come off liking a specific player, it’s because of things they’ve done and proven on the field or court of competition.

A guy like Hardy-Tuliau is just Mr. “Right Place, Right Time”. Unnoticable to most, but appreciated by his peers and coaches.

We need to get off to a quick start and put petal to the metal and let them play catch up while we pitch and catch and mix it up with a little Green and Dimude. I want to be screaming for 100 points like we were yelling at the Aloha in 2001. Handshakes, no chest bumps and remember to pick the opponent off the ground after we plant them into it. Don’t want any personal fouls for anything stupid. BE WARRIORS DURING THE PLAY AND BE GENTLEMEN AFTER… BELIEVE!!! GO WARRIORS!!!

I vote for UH playing a game in Texas against LSU or Mississippi or Mississippi St with UH as the home team to begin the 2014 or 2015 season.

Recruting possibilities? Invite all players and parents to the game – just watch the NCAA “eyes”.

    A-House,

I’ve been suggesting this type of thing for years. It is completely LEGAL in the eyes of the NCAA.

Oregon State played a “home” game against TCU at Cowboys’ Stadium this season. BYU played a “home” game against Oklahoma at Cowboys’ Stadium last year. Teams get between $1.2 and $3 million each for the game, get access to recruits (home teams gets to invite recruits to be on the sidelines) and get nationally televised games.

UH is missing out on a big recruiting and funding opportunity if they never want to do these.

  322. madeinhawaii November 1, 2010 3:32 pm

    Kazz,

You gotta like that we have a good number of play makers on Defense and Offense this season….

Torres, Paredes, Hardy-Tuliau, Mana Silva, Meatoga, Hanohano, Tuipulotu, Brown, Masch, so on and so forth… we’re not dependent on two or three key players on defense, anymore.

Special teams had a good day.. one might say break-out performance last weekend, just in time.

Offense.. fizzled in the beginning but got on track to win big… I expect it all to come together next week… usually an “off” week is followed by an “on” week. But the Oline held up… and we got some other names in the mix with Blount, Stutzman, Dimude and even Heun.

Best of all, the team is having fun… and we all know that when they are having fun, they are scary good! ….

    Hi Everybody!

You won’t hear from me on weekends, since I take my time savoring the “feel good” vibes when our Warriors win…and lately, I’ve been feeling mighty good 24-7.

I don’t mean to take anything away from this week’s WAC recipients named Offensive/Defensive Players of the Week. Mucho kudos to Bryant and Mana. Well deserved. I do wish, however, to address the the following message to each and every Warrior football player. Please listen to Auntie A-House’s personal reflection and her beliefs and take her words to heart…

Football is a TEAM sport. Eleven Warriors take the field on every offensive/defensive play. The opposing team will send their respective offensive/defensive player on the field to match you at each position. How well you absorbed/learned/executed your respective assignments will be obvious when the ref blows his whistle at the end of each play. I shall continue to be so proud of each and every one of you if you rise and return to the huddle feeling good…really good…about how you executed your assignment. That is my fervent wish/hope/prayer for each of you Warriors. If you are not a starter, no matter, focus on what’s going on during the game. BE READY!

There are more games left to play. Yes, this upcoming game is important, but so was the Charleston Southern game, so was the Fresno game, so was the Nevada game, so was the Idaho game. You challenged each opponent, you fought hard for each victory, and I want to thank you for representing me, the legions of fans, and the State of Hawaii in such an exemplary manner!

And so, with these words of encouragement, I salute and acknowledge EACH and EVERY ONE of you Warriors as PLAYERS OF THE WEEK! CONGRATULATIONS…IMUA WARRIORS!!

  360. I enjoyed this so much thought I’d share it.

***PLEASE SKIP IF YOU ARE NOT THE BOASTFUL TYPE***

Posted and apparently researched by “HawaiiWarriors808”:

since 2000 (When Nevada joined the WAC)to Today:

    NEVADA VS HAWAII

    Record vs BCS teams

Nevada 3-13 Hawaii 9-14 (wins over Alabama, Arizona St, Michigan St, Oregon State, etc)

    Heads up Record

Hawaii leads 7-4 (including 4-1 in last 5, with Hawaii beating Nevada’s best team this year)

    Overall Record

    Nevada 65-65 Hawaii 86-53

    Record in WAC

    Nevada 45-41 Hawaii 57-31

    Outright WAC Champs

    Nevada 0 Hawaii 1

    BCS Bowls

    Nevada 0 Hawaii 1

Hawaii also has more wins vs ranked teams and more bowl games & bowl wins then Nevada in that time.

    Hawaii’s Away record 24-29 (45%)

    Nevada’s away record 23-40 (36%)

Hawaii’s athletics have NEVER finished lower then Nevada in the Director’s CUP. and NEVER is a loooong time.

that was the last time Giants won the World Series.

    Nice going SF Giants!

  364. Okole Maluna,

“HawaiiWarriors808” did the research, but I admit I didn’t know the details other than Nevada is just not the overall program UH is.

Other than men’s basketball, not much going on there and their overall fan support is nothing to brag about either.

  365. It’s evident. In the fall of 2012 and forward, we need to OWN the WAC in ALL sports.

We are NOT going anywhere else anytime soon.

#361… Kazz… That is some great information! Need to add that Hawaii beat Reno a couple of weeks ago too, then have someone write up an article about it in questioning how voters can arrive at their decisions when casting their weekly votes.

    (off topic)

Anyways, you guys gotta watch Hawaii Five-0 tonight! I thought it was one of the best ones so far.

Danno was driving McGarret’s silver Camaro tonight. I want to see someone break out an old GTO in one of the later shows, just to pay tribute to GM putting Pontiac to sleep.

Its gonna be a close game but but I KNOW that the Warriors have what it takes to beat ….. The potatoe heads.

Been there in Boise not much for us island peeps to do except to live in McCall, Idaho which is a beaut of a lake to live by.

For those that go to watch the game and r looking for a spiritual experience check the Cathedral of Boise . A church constructed by a Rev. Richards and those that cared enough. It’s built as a a St Patrick’s Cathedral. It will give you ‘chicken skin’ if they play the organ. If you go mentioned Rev Richards…. And ask to karaoke. J/k

#361 – reminds me of the year Kauai won the Jr. Lifeguard champs to start the current string of wins.

The coach’s wife is a spreadsheet person.

They keep their own tally of team accomplishments – each person, each event.

Their tally says Kauai has the most points.

Certain Oahu team is acting like they won even before the results are announced.

Kauai coach politely takes his tally sheet to the judges and asks them to show him where there may be an error.

Ahhh… no can argue with the stats.

No shame, no blame, no unmentioned errors…

    No can deny.

    Kauai is da winnah.

Too bad football isn’t measured the same way…

I know it’s kinda late but I completely agree with you on seating ath the Aloha Stadium needs to change. Before we use to run into the stadium as students first come first service and filled the Orange section hours before the game.

And I don’t know why they will break away for commercial when it’s on PPV?

PPV should be commercial free but if they are going to take one, we should insist on taking CM only during opponet on Offense Not when UH is driving down to score.

I’m sure you can throw the shirt further than that bazooka but I got a shirt during weekend Wahine VV, so it can’t be that bad.

  371. The only thing I will predict for Saturday’s game is that if we beat Boise State.

All the talk will be how BSU was never really a contender for the national title as opposed to what kind of program Hawaii is.

  372. UH athletics is $10,000,000.00 in the hole.

Getting rid of premium seat contributions is suicide.

  373. Pomai November 1, 2010 5:45 pm

Kazz I don’t think so, put it this way we need to fill the stadium and need to do whatever it takes to do that. 10,000 premium seats vs 50,000 general admisson??? What needs to be done is for UH to get a cut of all venues at the games.

  374. BigHiloFan2 November 1, 2010 5:46 pm

    close? PFTTT….. CAN’T YA READ???

    45-35.

    visualize, Warriors, visualize!

    Go Warriors.

  375. Pomai,

What price would you charge for general admission of a 50,000 seat venue for a UH football game?

  376. wafan November 1, 2010 5:55 pm

    Nytal!

  377. That SUPERbowzooka from Farmer’s Insurance shoots out about 20 shirts at one time and they fire it 2-4 times a game for football and 2x at the SSC.

Sure it’s not as powerful as the ONE shot bowzooka, but I’m sure the fans are happier with more shirts.

  378. TYaiea November 1, 2010 5:59 pm

Bpicker, for entertainment purposes. Vegas betting as of now; 61% taking the points (Hawaii) and 39% giving (BSU) spread now on some books are -21. As you can see, by Friday/Sat probably drop to around -20, if this betting trend continues. Doesn’t matter cause all the Tsaikos say Na Koa win outright so spread means nothig. IMUA….

  379. madeinhawaii November 1, 2010 6:05 pm

Premium seat contributions more than make up for the empty seats.. and I’m not sure that selling out really brings all that much more to the table.. at $50 x 10,000 you get 500,000 – expenses…. $20 x 10,000 = $200,000 less expenses which may not leave much. Sponsors and TV are the big bucks and that’s where premium seating and luxury boxes come in to play.

  380. bighilofan2 November 1, 2010 6:06 pm

    okay Warriors….

    remember, the 4 eeeEs…

    Expose yourselves on Saturday.

    Expose your talent…. 😀

    Expose Boise’s flanks. 😆

Expose Boise’s weakness, and that weakness is HAWAII!

    Go Warriors!

  381. gigi-hawaii November 1, 2010 6:09 pm

And there are fans like me who will never attend a game at the stadium no matter how cheap the seats are.

  382. Made,

That’s why we need luxury boxes at the RUST PALACE.

Heck, Fresno State softball has premium seat contributions for seats behind home plate. I think it’s like $200.00 for the season and they have a luxury box on top of it.

$$$$ = benefits the program and ultimately the student athletes.

  383. gigi-hawaii:

    November 1st, 2010 at 6:09 pm

And there are fans like me who will never attend a game at the stadium no matter how cheap the seats are.

    no comment.

  384. traff November 1, 2010 6:19 pm

    that was a comment

  385. Shoko November 1, 2010 6:39 pm

    Kazz,

Understand, there are people who can’t attend games because of physical limitations. Not sure if Gigi falls into that category, but I know a few people, Uncles and Aunties who absolutely LOVE Warrior football, that can’t because its difficult for them to make that trek. Just appreciate them that follow UH sports in the comfort of their home and root for them. 🙂

  386. RAINBOW WAHINE SOFTBALL VS CHAMINADE

    FRIDAY AT 6PM

    SATURDAY DOUBLEHEADER AT 12 NOON

    Admission :$0.00

    Parking $5.00

***Concessions will be available this time around.***

  387. Shoko,

I’ve made it clear in the past that the people WITHOUT limitiations whether they are financial or physical really have no excuse to go to ANY UH home game.

And no Gigi doesn’t fall into this category. She has admitted the reasons as to why she doesn’t go to live games.

I won’t repeat what they are as I might break my PC.

  388. Shoko November 1, 2010 6:46 pm

The Warriors have the best record in the WAC based on the spread. They have either covered or beat the spread and are 7-1. Boise State never covers their spread at home.

  389. Pomai November 1, 2010 6:53 pm

#384 – Kazz that is one of the big problems you have a lot of people like gigi who really are not into sports like the most of us.

  390. Shoko November 1, 2010 6:55 pm

    Kazz,

If I remember correctly, from past post, Gigi and her husband are going through some financial difficulties. Specifically, her husband has a new job that pays less. Everyone has priorities, don’t chatise them, regardless of their reasons. Just be happy that we all rooting for the same team. Warriors!

  391. Pomai November 1, 2010 6:55 pm

#376 – Kazz just off the top of my head – I dunno, I would have to really think about it for awhile, but I know that it would be better than what is going on now.

  392. bighilofan2 November 1, 2010 7:10 pm

    now now now

    remember this guys,

takes all kines for make a team of supporters.

    all kines.

main thing, we make like the Warriors on the sidelines

    we support the team.

    Go Warriors !

    Go Hollywood!!!! 😀

  393. bighilofan2 November 1, 2010 7:12 pm

Coaches Rolovich and Aranda sure do appreciate Coach Mack.

    I guess they all do.

Good job, Coach Mack! Sure do feeling great that our team is doing soooo well!

    Go Warriors!

    Go buss up Boise!

  394. TYaiea November 1, 2010 7:17 pm

Aloha bhf2, i wen spark u in your seat with the big green helmet lower orange bb, but after halftime u was gone. IMUA….

  395. Bstunna2002 November 1, 2010 7:24 pm

Warriors you guys have done an awesome job playing as one unit there is no offense there is no defense there is only TEAM…As you head to Boise make sure to stay level headed blue field or green field it’s all the same…Come Saturday When You go to battle just remember you not only posses the Power of the Eleven Men on the field you posses the power of a WHOLE STATE!!!

  396. Hoohiki November 1, 2010 7:36 pm

Chris Petersen really showed his respect for UH in his interviews today.

“I think they’re aggressive. I think they make you earn everything and they’re not going to give it to you easy so when you make that mistake they’re right there,” said Petersen.

Coach Pete knows the Warriors have the number one passing offense in the country and the number three overall offense in the country.

But it’s their defense he’s watching.

“They’re moving the ball up and down the field scoring great points, but I think they’re defense if you study them is playing at a very high level,” said Petersen.

I was checking the Reno newspaper and read that some of the fans were complaining that the Nevada, Utah State game was sparsely attended. Their attendance was 11,558 in Reno. Looks like Nevada is more popular with the pollsters than their fans.

I am on PPV. My $14 credit going to UH athletics.

    TO OUR RAINBOW WARRIORS:

Make a BIG statement this Saturday and let the nation know YOU are the REAL thing!

    Keep focussed and execute!

Remember the one that wants it the most wins! Give it all you got. This is a make a difference game. Change the perception of LV bookies, sports media and football fans around the country. Win one for the State and put Hawaii on the map!

    Go, go, GO WARRIORS!

  439. TYaiea November 1, 2010 9:56 pm

Heard that PPV is gonna show the Boise game.

  440. madeinhawaii November 1, 2010 10:45 pm

If the Warriors are Victorious this Saturday, I hope UH and the Athletic Dept have some kind of special welcome home bash ready in the offing, as well as, a number of autograph sessions. A win would be huge and would really go a long way in helping market the Warrior program to young and old. I got my fingers crossed. Warriors got the talent, the depth, the strength and the speed to win.

  450. wafan November 2, 2010 3:24 am

I appreciate the enthusiasm and support of all things Rainbows/’Bows/Warriors/Wahine. It is more than invigorating. I can understand views and opinions about folks needing to show up at the various venues to support the teams.

But, there are folks who choose, for whatever reasons (physical or otherwise), to forego attending in person yet continue to support the team through other means. Are their donations worth less? Is their enthusiasm and support for the teams worth less?

Just my opinion and thankful to everyone who supports the teams via any means possible.

    Go Warriors/Wahine/’Bows/Rainbows!!!

  457. Shoko November 2, 2010 5:24 am

    Morning folks!

    Point taken, Kazz. 😉

Here’s a couple of interest tidbits:

“Hawaii’s playing as good as anybody who’s out there,” Boise State coach Chris Petersen said. “They’re on quite a roll. It seems like we always have tough, hard-fought games against Hawaii, so it should make for an interesting weekend.”

The Broncos played without kicker/punter Kyle Brotzman and linebacker Aaron Tevis and lost safety Cedric Febis, guard Joe Kellogg, safety Jeron Johnson, cornerback Brandyn Thompson and defensive tackle Chase Baker during the La Tech game.

Twenty years from now someone will ask the trivia question, when was the last time the Broncos lost at home?

The 2010 season against Hawaii. Woot!

  464. Ronnie November 2, 2010 6:52 am

    Good Morning Tsaikos!

Finally, some good press from College Football News:

What It All Means: Hawaii is going bowling. It might be staying home, having accepted a date in the Hawaii Bowl, but after missing out last year, this is a big deal. Now there’s bigger fish to fry. Boise State is in range next, and yeah, Hawaii is good enough to come up with the win as Bryant Moniz is playing as well as any quarterback in the WAC, and the defense has stepped its game in a big way over the last several weeks allowing just 17 points in the last two games and keeping Nevada under wraps. There’s no pressure in the Boise State game, so Moniz can let it fly.

LizK I guess that means you won’t vote for anyone because they all run them, but seriously you should not let that stop you from voting, you need to base it on what the person stands for that you agree with. But for those that don’t vote, no grumble.

    BYU and the WAC

so i’ve been thinking, and that’s dangerous i always say, it will become harder for any team to stay independent what with the likes of the pac12 and the former big12 requiring their resident members to play 9 conference games and perhaps with the big ten and the sec following suit.

i know donovan is concerned about that and is no longer whistling that independence tune these days.

    what does this all mean?

BYU may now look for a conference to at least play football?

now they are upset with the MWC for ruining plan “a” and may just land in the WAC.

now that is WACky but not far fetched.

The most expensive non-presidential race in U.S. history ended Tuesday with Democrat Jerry Brown back in the Governor’s Office after surviving more than $160 million in campaign spending by Republican Meg Whitman. I have attempted various weight loss diet programs over the years and have had varying degrees of success. I at the present chiefly stick with high protein diets for the reason that they have given me the most effective outcome. Generate a calorie deficit and you will always reduce weight, you accomplish this with either your diet plan or exercise, still better a blend of both.

  574. Real Time Vechicle Tracking November 16, 2010 10:41 am

What you need is a GPS with Text to Speech and multi-point routing. The Garmins that have multi-point will also sort the stops into the most efficient route. Others have multi-point but do not have the sort feature. If you go to and click on Garmin GPS also check out the Discontinued Garmins as they also offer this feature. When you click on the Garmin GPS or Discontinued Garmin you will get a comparison chart that will show the models that have multi-point routing. Click on a model that is of interest and you will get a detail sheet explaining all the features of that units. Good luck and where’s my pizza?

Welcome to ugg official website. You will get a genuine ugg boots at a good price from Ugg discounted shop.It is important to understand what uggs really are. Ugg Australia first sheep leather boots have worldwide,it really does sell some of the best quality ugg boots you will ever find .For many people, the amount that you would have to spend on boots(Ugg infant erin) made by this company is worth. Because new arrival Ugg boots can keep your feet at regular body temperature in extremely cold weather and they(Ugg infant boots) are not waterproof.

This is in fact the reason why women have turned towards uggs for boots.(Ugg baby boots)they are popular in the market,Not only do they wear smart looking clothes ,higest quality and beautiful in design, but also loves putting on fashionable and comfortable shoes. So it is neecessary to have 1 pair just in time for winter.->www.ugg-official-website.com

You don’t that cut of beef needs long slow cooking-like in a crock pot-you could smoke it for 12hrs. Not a good meat for the grill-try a London Briol-or flank steak. You will like that better.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.
