Moleni is on board
Harold Moleni, a tight end from West Valley City, Utah, has finalized his oral commitment to the Warriors.
Asked why he chose UH, Moleni said: “Norm Chow.”
Moleni, 22, said he is 6 feet 3 and 235 pounds. His goal is to gain 15 pounds when he arrives in Hawaii in July.
Moleni is a 2008 graduate of Utah’s Hunter High, where he also played basketball and rugby. He signed with Utah State in 2008, but then took a year off to work and prepare for a two-year church mission to Spokane. He completed his mission this past October. After discussion with UH assistant coach Lewis Powell, Moleni was invited for a trip last weekend. UH needed to adjust its recruiting board before finalizing his commitment.
Of the nine oral commitments, three are tight ends. Clark Evans and Ethan Watanabe previously made pledges.
Kamehameha’s Keoni Bush-Loo will be visiting this weekend.
Waylon Lolotai, who practiced as an offensive lineman last year, will be moving to tight end this year.
In switching to a pro-set offense, a tight end and fullback will be added to most schemes.

In a late push, the UH coaches have been busy making home and school visits. Yesterday, for instance, head coach Norm Chow was in Northern California in the morning and Los Angeles in the evening. He will make more visits this morning, depart for Honolulu in the afternoon, then get ready for this weekend when up to 15 prospects will make recruiting visits.
The Warriors have about 10 available scholarships remaining.

Congrats to former UH linebacker Solomon Elimimian, who signed a free-agent contract with the Minnesota Vikings.

UH should borrow the NFL’s approach, and conduct a training-camp practice on a military base. To be part of the community, sometimes you have to wade into the community.
Holy Smokes! I’m lovin’ it!
I Mua Warriors!!
Why are you up so early, A-Joe?
Good morning!
Kinda sneaky there, Mr. Tsai.
A very early morning post!
Hello ST! I am up early too, but yeah I’m in San Diego, California though. LOL.
ST- Each year around this time I begin to ask you; How’s our boys in Manoa doing with their offseason training? Who’s running. Who’s lifting. Who’s bettering themselves? Who wants to win a national championship?
Back in ’94 I used to send faxes every other day to the UH AD’s office asking these same questions of Tony Maroney. (at least I hope it was dialing UH.)
Actually, I’m not up. I’m sleeping my best. This is a Robotic responder I set up that’s spamming the blog. Cool stuff!
Oh yeah, Nike shoes anyone?
Big Daddy:
Will you be at Pro Day?
I wonder if Nike pays spammers more than factory workers?
A-Joe:
I heard they will be cracking down on the offseason training, which means the “voluntary” has been removed. The scholarship check is the same amount in the fall months as it is in spring.
ST: That’s awesome!!
‘Gmorning Big Daddy and Wafan.
Wea all our kope drinkers this morning?
good morning and good note 808

Welcome aboard, Harold Moleni.
The NFL sent us two e-mails reminding us to be on time for the bus ride to Hickam this morning. That is an efficient organization.
Yes! We will be at Pro-Day! We are about to go hang out with some guys training right now. Wish I was there for the Pro-Bowl. It was nice what Jennings said about Alex Green. Alright, will be chattting with you all in about 6 hours, gotta work! He doesn’t have a job yet; you know who. LOL.
good morning gang,
as they say, ‘the hits just keep coming’…..in Manoa. Coach Chow and crew are banging doors and banging heads, gotta love it. i guess on Feb 1st, someone can say to all of Hawaii, ‘welcome to Division I NCAA Football boys…..
GO WARRIORS
GO WILDCATS
Welcome to the Warriors Harold Moleni!
UH definitely has a need for TEs, especially for the option to have multiple TEs in short yardage situations.
Fresno State’s AD gave a radio interview where he said that the MWC/CUSA merger is being finalized by the lawyers right now and when the legal work is done the merger will be official. He seems to indicate that UTEP will join the western side so they will be in UH’s division.

Garret:
You always have a wealth of the most interesting information. I look forward to seeing your posts. Mahalo for providing the latest news.
ST, can you get us more info on this merger? Sounds crazy to me.

UH will hold some scholies for guys who become available later.
There also is the potential to grayshirt players if UH needs more scholies.
you all have a great day and enjoy. off to breakfast of champions.
Morning/afternoon, everyone!
Mahalo, ST for another great story… this time on Moleni. I love hearing of the paths these guys take to eventually (finally) become Warriors!
COUNTY.
Darn it.
I don’t know why I typed in country. This is what old age does to a person.
B-Ball teams in the past trained at Schofield (Nash) and KMCAS (Gib) for a couple of days, but you’re talking 15 people. F-Ball would be a bigger impact with 100 players and coaches…. plus if you think about Schofield and Kaneohe are still busy places… training troops for war… B-Ball and F-Ball are just games… not war… Hickam & AF on the other hand, they know marketing…. Pro-Bowl practice is 30 minutes of lite practice, and then autograph time, and the NFL gets more pub…..
Under vonAppen, UH had a training camp at Barbers Point. That was kinda cool.
Welcome to Warrior Football to cornerback Anthony Pierce and Harold Moleni, a tight end from West Valley City, Utah has made an oral commitment to the Warriors.
They are all making the right choice with one word. Chow!
Here’s wishing few more bunches of local recruits make the right choice by staying home this week end.
Go Warriors!
ST, dont know if you still need to confirm but Grant Meersand the long snapper is supposedly coming as a preferred walk on. Good timing with Ingram being a senior.
I think this article is cool!
We still need more TE’s and if Bush-Loo can call off his Nebraska visit like he did with Washington after his visit to UH will be hugh.
Stephen –
I just gotta chuckle when you young ‘uns grumble about getting old. π
BTW: I saw two VERY COOL things on the TV news/sports report last night.
One was Pro-Bowl QB Rivers giving Coach Chow high praise and expressing HIS excitement for the UH’s future with Chow on board.
The second was the names and pictures of UH’s verbal commits thus far. I hope that the local recruits saw that same report.
These ARE very exciting times!
Will the recruits be attending the Pro Bowl, Stephen?
With only 10 scholarship left to hand out with 15 recruits visiting this week-end they better make up their mind fast or it’s gone before the week ends.
That is a tremendous strategiesβ for coach Chow to let the recruits know whats left before final day in February.
I can just see it like at Christieβs Auction Day on UH campus this week-end.
βSOLD!β to one recruits, going , going, and gone and ‘SOLD’ to the final recruits.
Bidding war will be on the recruits to commit before they are all gone.
Donβt Wait for Pact-12 offering this late in the game. They are waiting for someone else.
It will trickle down to UH in the final conclusion.
@66,
Which channel was the interview with Rivers? I want to check that website for the interview.
WNY –
It was either HNN/KGMB or The Big Guy on KITV. We watched both.
Congratulations Solomon…. He was one of my favorite UH players!
Traffic is bad this morning, anyways good reading cheeeehooo!!! rajah!!!!FSP
@71,
Thanks.
Getting 3 Top recuits from Utah in Ursua, Lavaka and Moleni this week past week need only one word.
It’s all ‘Chow’.
Always wondered why we didn’t recruit Utah with so many Poly’s there, not all of them can play for BYU and UTAH that leaves a lot of potential recruits to go elsewhere. Why not Polynesia Hawaii?!
Regardless of where the team workouts are conducted one big impact will be the individual work that’s done in this off-season. Like hearing about the “less-than voluntary” participation.
Here’s a high school kid doing his off-season prep

According to the Boulder Daily Camera, Paulay Asiata is leaving Colorado.

Al, the bugga can sing! Welcome Warriors, Mr. Pierce, Mr. Moleni, and Mr. Meersand. Gotta show proper respect by calling them Mr.
#’s 75, 76…
agree 100%!!!
well, two things for the lack of utah recruits in the past.
one, no lds connection.
two, no utah contacts were established.
three, utah was too eastern for the armchair recruiting style.
four, too busy going to las vegas.
five, hc never recruited.
derek…hahahaha. no not singing. they were lip synching.
got cha!
wow, Moleni sounds just like Beyonce. π
here’s a moleni scouting report excerpt from espn in 2008…
finally, harold moleni also competed in rugby.
here’s a short clip.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOpn5My39_c
i recall those days when we faced the byu men on the gridiron.
having face a team where nearly half of them had a two year mission under their belts often pitted our 18-19 year olds against their 25 year old seniors.
what an unfair advantage i used to think.
i am now starting to like that rule now.
we’ll have waylon lolotai, mike wadsworth, and now harold moleni on our side.
i imagine those numbers could get higher in the future.
Unfortunately Wadsworth is Transferring to BYU…
when the Warriors faced byu last season were there many 25 year old seniors on the byu team?
while i sit here drooling over the prospects of all these prospects signing up for the warrior team, i am humbly reminded that we are still a few years away from the real chow time.
the jc guys, yes, we expect them to make immediate impacts. evans, fields, turner, for example.
the hs guys, we shall be patient. although one or two could make an early impression.
be patient.
be still.
ah but, after all these are exciting times.
bryson…i didn’t know that. i always felt that he’d come back and once he got his legs back he’d be a great re-addition to this team.
best of luck mike wadsworth. i guess we’ll see him in the near future.
i’m patiently waiting for spring ball.
okay…i googled and it was reported back in august here on the wb.
i must have been visiting my money in las vegas.
al, exciting times!!!!
1. Feb 1st
2. clear eligibility to UH
3. Spring Ball start
4. Spring ball practice on Maui
5. Need I say more.
tommui…well, harold moleni’s official commit today makes three now.
whitey…a practice in maui???
cool stuff. now go over to baldwin hs and tell that big kid to commit to the warriors.
whitey…tell him coming to honolulu is “going away to college” with all residual benefits and the additional benefits of family taking that short flt to oahu to watch games.
no need to go hunt for the l & l.
This is when you wish we still had the super ferry service to Maui.
that super ferry wow…yah, i used to see loads of people lining up on the docks of that kahului harbor. locals i am talking about with their cars and family.
boy, did we mess up on a good thing.
who do we blame?
the former gov the former mauian?
the protestors from nawiliwili harbor?
okay, nuff already.
ah yes, it is good to save a scholie or two for some bounce backers, under radar, change of heart guys or maybe an early graduate?
{snickers}
Greg Schiano (Rutgers) named Tampa Bay Bucs head coach. Apparently, he stood up a bunch of recruits that he was scheduled to meet while finalizing his deal.
I recall the excitement around Rutgers a few years back, when Ray Rice was there, but they have fallen back into the pack of the Big East. They haven’t been bad, but not great. Couple 9 win seasons over the past 5 years.
Any Bucs fans out there? Good hire?
Lingle screwed-up the Super Ferry…A VERY big loss for the State.
This weekend should prove interesting, as I’m sure it will be a juggle as to who will get scholarships, etc.
re # 110. – don’t know if it’s a good hire or not;
but I sure hope he doesn’t chicken-out like Bobby Petrino did at Atlanta.
bowwar, don’t blame lingle, blame the entire legislative body who had no balls. the worst ones were from maui and they include the egrets. but look at the bright side, you now pay hawaiian air $225-$300 per person for your roundtrip.
lingle screwed-up the superferry? interesting….
UH having a practice or training camp at a local military base is a good idea and has been done before. Just make sure the practice field is up to safety standards. During the Von Appen era, I recall that UH lost a starting wide receiver Eleu Kane, who blew out a knee on the practice field at Barbers Point. How about at Koolina where the NFL guys practice? π
oldsd, i thought training at schofield was a great idea. maybe going to kaneohe be a better idea and train with the marines. ouch, ouch, ouch. can see da warriors waking up early, going thru calis and training. all i can say is goin get one bunch of top shape warriors.
have a great day gang.
well the state failed to complete an environmental impact statement, so lingle called for a special legislative session and they approved a bill, in essence, to allow the superferry to continue operation while the eis is being prepared. however, later down the line, an appeal was made by environmentalists and the courts decided that it was unconstitutional for the superferry to operate without a completed eis.
see, so next time, make sure you do an eis first.
“….and the courts decided….”
ur introducing a little more in terms of legal procedure posturing, still, the storyline is inchoate.
okay then, the court ruled…
i guess we could extend the same logic and say, mufi and carlisle screwed-up the rail.
wait till cayetano gets a hold of a bigger piece of the action. π
Here’s a recounting of what happened and the legal background.
http://www.civilbeat.com/fact_checks/2011/10/28/13403-fact-check-lingle-nothing-was-done-wrong-with-superferry/
The bottom line is that the state DOT did not view the state-financed superferry unloading barges as “harbor improvements” and, even if they were viewed as such, did not consider their installation to have a significant environmental impact. The judge on Maui agreed, but the Hawaii Supreme Court did not.
or….barry screwed-up obamacare.
….did not view the state-financed superferry unloading barges as “harbor improvements”.
not the bottomline, but certainly, the oppossing political-class partyline.
it is what it is, no can go back and change things, superferry is gone.
@127. Ok, true dat. but, some are history buffs and others…revise history.
This we know, Lingle was pro super-ferry. mufi and carlisle are pro-rail and potus jammed obamacare down our throats.
@AL 104
Owe you a burger – your birdie is singing the right notes!

Hey anybody else read that story about the Poly OL, who was turned away from Georgia because he didn’t have his citizenship papers in order. Sounded like a bluechipper. Invite him over, he’d really fit in nicely.
131…and then schedule georgia.
On the Ferry:
Everyone supported the Ferry– not just Linda Lingle.
And everyone– not just Linda Lingle– thought an EIS was not necessary– the only exception were some environmental activists. The Democratic legislature did not think it was necessary to carve out an exception for the Ferry from the EIS, because they did not think an EIS was required.
Then to the surprise of all the Hawaii Supreme Court ruled an EIS was necessary– the environmentalists who lost in court, won on appeal.
So the Governor and the Legislature (in a rare gesture of agreement) passed an amendment to the EIS law to create and exception that would apply to projects like the Ferry.
But guess what, contrary to most of the past decisions of courts on this matter, the Hawaii Supreme Court ruled that the Legislation was not valid and an EIS was required never mind what the people, the legislature, and the Governor thought.
according to the mags–Harold Moleni hasnt played a down since his senior hs season in 2007? Colt’s senior year as a warrior.
Moleni said he plans to gain 15 lbs after he arrives in Hawaii in JULY. Sounds like he’ll be lifting and eating alot of loco moco’s to gain all that weight in one month before the start of camp….ahhh, he’s prolly in great running shape already?
I’d second that on training at schofield and run to the top of Mt Ka’ala to Waianae will be a training as we move into MWC with all games at the mile high stadiums.
Mt Kaala tallest peak on Oahu at 4,000 ft our new recruits will suck wind for summer camp.
I went through Schofield on mountain bike trail hike once with Hawaii Bike League and it was breath taking view.
http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=608911
http://www.100peaks.com/2010/04/30/mount-kaala-a-slippery-climb-to-the-highest-point-on-oahu-hawaii/
and have a spring scrimmage at aloha stadium. then fans and opponents can see what kind of offense and defense will be employed.
kinda wonder about fall camp. they still going sleep in the dance studios?
the superferry went under because some peeps wuz taking rocks from Maui. lolo, auwe.
No one said only lingle supported the ferry, i certainly didnt. i did say lingle was pro-ferry. however, to say, everyone did support it, is a stretch in rhetoric π but, the ferry did have broad consensus with regular folks who used it to commute with their cars, trucks, etc. it was a great deal and certainly hurt the interisland monoply transports. you know who they are and they have political influence. look, the rail is set-up in the same manner–what the vested powers want vs the public good. the lines are still fuzzy in the minds of many citizens bc of all the smoke and mirrors that obfuscate valid issues. RUN, BEN, RUN!
Taking about Superferry came to mind:
Many residents of Kauai and Maui were up against Superferry from coming into their harbor but during that same year, Maui had huge rain and flood damages. They were all smiles when national guardsmen came with loads of equipment carried on Supperferry to help unload all the debris and assess the damage that was done.
The brand new Hawaii Superferry was auction off for cheap scrap money.
Heard last time it carried relief supply to Haiti for their earthquake damage with our “Hawaii Superferry” logo still on. Haitians thought we came all the way from Hawaii to help.
I know for one the car rental companies are very happy Superferry is not here.
Oh! and the car dealers of outer island too.
In high school, we had part of our 2-a-days up at Camp Smith.
no more ferry talk please. outsiders will take the rainbow literally otherwise or would that be figuratively?
did you know that the visiting list is being upgraded by the hour?
prospects not comfortable with their earlier choices are starting to have “buyer’s remorse” as those in sales would lament.
we could be the benefactor of such a situation and then again in the reverse it could adversely effect us just as well.
you gotta love the suspense to be a college coach. its no wonder why the pro’s developed the draft system.
for sure the bcs powers would never agree to a collegiate player draft system.
al, you started the super-ferry conversation by asking whether to blame lingle or others. hope you have resolved your dilemma.
btw, uh used pearl in the late 60’s. security is always great on military installations and it prevents players from leaving as well as intruders from entering.
Uh…Papa Joe. I just received 1 call from the Army Fire Direction Center. Apparently your errant golf balls are disrupting field training missions in the area.
The 2nd call is from Wheeler Air Field where all Helicopter flights are grounded because of golf balls coming from Leilehua GC.
They suggest you cease fire and go home. ‘Nuff golf awrready…(oh and mama sez tanks for not coming to Kapolei GC).
mikey — I read that the Super Ferry was purchased by the U.S. government (military) to be used as a troop and logistical transport. Bargain price. Think it was a small article in the S-A print edition a week or two ago.
At least some one still has a good use of our Superferry.
OK that’s the last word on ferry al.
it wasnt too long ago, that some on this website were grousing bc of poaching. alas, an epiphany of sorts and we are “benefactors”. look, it will always be, a constant tug-of-war bc Hawaii must compete against ALL big money schools that can afford the travel and are vested, recruiting-wise, in Hawaii. Hopefully, with Norm Chow, it becomes more balanced. He can attack surgically with force on his homeground and use his backyard to his advantage. This is not a UCLA-USC rivalry thing. Chow must compete literally, with every school that comes across the pond. I like his guerilla tactics.
one more thing about the supah ferry, Young Brothers Barges ferry
did not hafta to get an EIS, so the judge was blind to equal justice…
btw, who was that judge?
ST & Tsaiko Blog Dogs:
More bureaucratic morass–the days of UH, for that matter any organization, to use military facilities, can be put in the “good old days” file. Today, the military considers its fields and facilities as directly being part of their training assets even though they may use it for parade and inter-squad football/softball. As such, the funds to maintain the fields and facilities are directly tied to Congressional appropriation, as opposed to recreational facilities that are non-appropriated and are supposed to be self-sufficient based on income generation (think bowling alleys, clubs, etc.) Use of appropriated funded assets are under quite strict regulatory controls, especially by outside activities. Bottom Line: it would take “an act of Congress” to let UH use military facilities these days.
I found the S-A breaking news regarding the purchase of both super ferry’s by the Navy…
http://www.staradvertiser.com/news/breaking/136137573.html?id=136137573
Wouldn’t it be ironic if one of them was deployed to Hawaii for the emergency movement of men, equipment and supplies to all the Hawaiian islands in an emergency? π
ST & Tsaiko Blog Dogs:
Maybe I was too facetious in #152, it would take at least “an EIS”!!?
Kekoa, I wondered what happened to the errant golf balls that I hit past the tree lines. Of course I won’t admit to it.
Like I said yesterday….
‘BOUT TIME my Vikings got a Warrior.
Solly in Purple sounds good to me!
BIK
Say what you will about B$-You, they do get points for fan participation.
Contrast this to the student section at the last 2-3 home football games.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUgGns9Avbs&feature=youtu.be
What ever happened to the Nogas? Why is there such a distance between UH and these brothers who were quite possibly some of the greatest players in UH history?
BIK
π³
the Hawaii student section that should have said
Three weeks at Pearl Harbor in the early 70’s…..never ate so good!!!!!! Just do what you gotta do and it will not matter—
@150 IPUMAN: Young Brothers came in business before EIS became a requirement and was exempt.
Ummm….
–
If UH accomplishes what BSU does on a consistent basis, there would be no concern for crowd participation from the general public and the student body.
Tom Mui, then Young Brothers ought to bring in its own
“Super Ferry” and do what Linda Lingle could not do.
I bet the legislature would give them tax breaks and
maybe even a state loan…
But not holding my breath, just my nose…
Keoni Bush Loo to Arizona…
Not that big of a loss to me..
I guess this all ties in with Stephen’s headline,
“Moleni is on board” (chow’s ship)…
but is it a super ferry or a stealth submarine?
158…agree 100%.. they should be in the uh hall of fame as a family.
145…yah, i know. but, who’d have thought you all would take it this far.
oh well. the next few days will be filled with so much recruiting stuff we’ll soon all forget about it.
@163 Ipu Man I’m not sure whether Young Bros would be exempt from EIS if they brought in the Superferry though I suppose one can argue that it is an addition to its fleet. I mean I think they get new barges, tugs etc.
You asked who were the judges that sank the Superferry. It was the Supreme Court of Hawaii though I think they had no choice in the matter as it was a Federal requirement which the State of Hawaii could not ignore, either by Governor Lingle or the State Legislature.
And yes, I did like the Superferry and had intended to use it.
visions of grandeur dancing in his head or too much competition now???
So… When does Spring Training start?
Because I can’t wait to see the new Hawaii Warriors take the field. (Even the practice field)
march 17th.
i guess chow went to san mateo, los angeles, orange county, san diego. i wonder if he made a turn to utah and nevada?
lots of gold left in them there parts.
too bad, the late start may have hurt some of the local recruiting but, if he gets one more gem out this crop and that “save the scholie just in case” it would be a great start.
Okay.. so what I’m hearing is that
Lingle was pro ferry..
and Abercrombie is also pro fairy, too… (civil unions)
c’mon, you don’t have to be dakine to be in a civil union.
i think that our te’s will surprise this year in their debut performance after a 12 year hiatus.
evans and lolotai will probably get the most snaps. watanabe and moleni (if he can get back in shape) will also see the field. we could still be after one more guy or look at the current roster for more.
i don’t see bright converting to the te as if plays too light.
i think we’ll see lolotai just blossom under this new system and position that he was always best suited for.
but, you never know.
Bright needs to toughen up & soon if he expects playing time. Otherwise, he may be a candidate for a grey shirt to free up more scholarships.
you can gray shirt after you played on a schollie?
recruiting season is always exciting especially after a lousy season. Gives us hope for the future with lots of energetic recruting….But
remember we are in honeymoon period with Chow.
The reality is the vast majority of these recruits will have little playing time and impact this fall bc they will be true freshmen or JC transfers trying to adjust to the increased strength, speed, complexity and competition on Dev. I level.
UH has lots of holes to fill.
Basically all new OL for the 3rd straight season; loss of top notch QB in Moniz; loss of 3 defensive studs who may end up playing in the NFL. (Remember when we lost Salas, Pilares and Green to the NFL? Offense took a big hit). Entirely new defensive and offensive system.
Not trying to be a pessimist but a realist…the honeymoon will be over after the 1st game of the season with USC and reality will set in.
“one more thing about the supah ferry, Young Brothers Barges ferry
did not hafta to get an EIS, so the judge was blind to equal justice…”
BINGO! (but da judge aint blind–20/20 political vision).
Na Koa has an event with Coach Chow on 1 Feb at Willows at 6 pm. Go to their website, and dig into your wallets. First ESPN1420am Call the Coach with Norm Chow is on 7 Feb at 6pm broadcasting from Kanikapila Grill at the Outrigger on the Beach.
Wonderful article. You constantly publish a interesting blog post. I will visit again in future.
almost time for the nike salesmen.
#178: “Grey shirt” would be the wrong term. Should be “no shirt” if his scholarship goes to someone else.
Thanks Tom Mui for the clarification.
And your pov. Appreciate it and all your comments.

SOME people are in a honeymoon periodβ¦.
The rest are pleased with the changes and progress Coach Chow is making with this new staff and appreciate the fact that one game and one first season is just that⦠ONE of many.
If people treat the 2012 season as a honeymoon as opposed to a process of building of a foundation, then that is just sad.
Bright aint too light, the question is blocking tough. bright has one year to play one. gray shirting has to do with delaying initial full-time college enrollment, when the ncaa clock starts ticking.
Im sure true-frosh Ethan Watanabe will play alongside Clark Evans at TE. Ditto if we land Keoni. Not uncommon to play true-frosh at TE, Sarkisian does at WASH. he had three frosh play this past season.
IDK about Waylon.
Too iffy at this point, although Chow will need to use everyone in blocking schemes–ready-to-catch or not.
we should be focused on the team, rather than people.
I am going to try this sometime soon!
al, you started off with three rapid posts on the lingle matter–taking it too far?
actually the follow-up posting on the super ferry was impressive and several posters obviousily knew the hidden dicta and covered it.
Hi, this is a good post!
Reason to keep the pro bowl in Hawaii…
The players are not hounded for autographs.
They got the beach all to themselves…
so says Minnesota Vikings end Jared Allen:
In Hawaii, the players are treated to a beachside hotel to themselves. They sip on colorful, tropical drinks and lounge around the pool, golf or wade in one of the white-sand lagoons at Ko Olina Resort.
“In Miami, we didn’t have the whole hotel. You’re signing autographs 99 percent of the time at the hotel. It was just chaotic,” Allen said.
got that from Hawaii News Now at:
http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/story/16602716/pro-bowlers-want-game-to-stay-in-hawaii
Mahalos
i’m focusing on Team.
I’m acknowledging Chow!
The truth is, if we’d kept our old coach,
I’d be waiting for next year to improve.
now that we’ve got Coach Chow, and i’m seeing how
the new recruits are responding to Coach Chow,
I have hope. hope for exciting times!!!
Who put the “how” into Chow?
The Team! The Team!
@188 Ipu Man – you like dancing with cleats?
Just hafta be careful not to step on her toes…
don’t the team sleep out in the “dance” studio?…
Okay… enough with the superferrycial conversation…
and I would like to think that some part of the Warrior “Foundation” was already laid by JJ and Mack… “We can win.. we can go to a BCS bowl”… “We can get graduate our players, we can recruit better athletes and keep them in town for the summer”… etc… Now let’s build a head turning team..
I was looking at the UMass roster and wow, they got tall quarterbacks and big Oline players there. If the Qbacks and receivers can pick up Rolo’s game book, he might have a field day out there.
Fascinating post! I’m glad I found this.
π
Eh! Anybody seen my shoes?
Congratulations Solomon Elimimian!
Book(mark) em, Dano (d1)…
It was about this time in the wee wee hours of this morning
when ST posted this blog—4 am-ish! Is he on the mainland?
Warriors down by eight. They trail the Aggies 30-38 going into the second half.
d1 –
You’re missing your shoes? Too bad, there was a salesguy from Nike here just before you showed. He’ll prolly be back tomorrow at the same time. Keep a look out for him.
Good for Sol!
Now if only Colt had gone the CFL route… its not too late is it?
Those new recruits –
Watched their highlight films – those guys got the goods! If we get a couple more studs, added to our current roster, I don’t think our opponents will think its a honeymoon!
Long Time with No Shirt News
FYI
I contacted Brandan Kop about the shirts that I attempted to order at least a month ago. Brandan said it is ‘still’ with UH legal Dept. UH’s contract with Coach Chow does not specify an acceptable use of his name. Thus, all licensed UH vendors must go through the ‘legal’ process with UH licensing (upper campus).
Non-licensed vendors do not fear any repercussions so they print whatever they want. They get their shirts on the street. They pay little or nothing to UH Athletics.
So if I would have ordered the shirts from a friend of mine who owns a screen printing shop (no UH license) we would have the shirts on and the donation for summer school in to Na Koa.
Utah State shooting lights out from three point land. Very frustrating.
Don Weir…that’s just “super”…
ten points behind…Go Bows!
Mees-tah Wee-ah –
Thanks for your efforts. Let us know when they’re ready.
Bush-Loo gone to AZ?
I thought that would have happened. Would have been nice to land him, but recruiting is as recruiting goes. I’m sure Chow has a number of offers out there. Whoever commits first gets the scholly. Given that we got commits from Moleni, Evans, and Watanabe, It appears as though Bush-Loo was one could not make the immediate commitment. tick tock when the recruiting clock and the offer might have been gone soon after. Who knows?
In the end, it could purely have been about another local boy’s need to simply “get off da rock.”
BIK
Super Ferry, Hawaii court, et al. OK, we have and have always had a “social activist” State Supreme Court. No surprise there, so no ack surprised. When I retired from the military and went into commercial real estate i heard one cliche that proved to be too true. “In Hawaii, nothing happens unless the right people are making money or getting credit for whatever the project may be. Actually saw it written once too, and signed by someone special. It explains a lot of things that make you go “What?”
Hawaii so far behind, they should try shooting 3’s more than they do…
Don Weir, Thanks for your efforts…
Zane not having a good night with the three-pointers. 1-10 for treys. Not good.
referee made bad, bad, bad call on UH when Utah State guy
tried to drive thru on of our players, obvious offfensive charge…
The officials are hurting UH but poor three-point shooting is the difference. If we were shooting 40% instead of 10% we’d be right in the ballgame.
free throw is hard with the zig-zag wave the fans do behind the rim…

Welcome to the Warriors Harold Moleni!
Wahine 62-53, 4:35 left.
norm chow seems to have had a plan: to come out, make these decisions, work out a recruiting strategy in this time period. i must admit i am amazed; deeply grateful.
he must have been wanting to be a head coach for so long; maybe this plan is a cumulation of little ideas, that pop into the mind, get mulled about, then add his twist or magic to make it his own.
i am impressed, and thankfully for the effort. i hope that they turn out to justify this man work. thank you.
ditto my man. ditto ditto ditto.

Alex Green….
Not to beat the ferry issue to death, but the Hawaii supreme court did not kill the superferry. They just ruled that an EIS was necessary. Had the superferry folks started their EIS process when the issue initially came up they probably would have been ready to go when the ruling came down. Instead they chose to hedge their bets and when the ruling did not go their way, which was not unexpected, they could not afford the time for the EIS. That’s poor management.
I thought the super ferry was a great idea. But remember, they were a private company.
Since we are “on board” in this blog, I dedicate this to
Steve M:
On a passenger cruise ship, everyone can see a bearded man on a small island who is shouting and desperately waving his hands. “Who is it?” a passenger asks the captain. The cruise ship captain replied, “I’ve no idea. Every year when we pass, he goes nuts.”
Dustin Adams was supposed to visit Northern Illinois (MAC) 1/20. saw on their recruit board they got 4 4* n 3* OG commits in da Dustin Adams size.
i sure hope we land da Moke from da Minot prarie, where the balmy breezes are 50 mph. π . he looks like a tall swaggering type of Moke. sure hope da coaches and Mr. Adams put an end to my suspense and announce again.
i’m hoping he like get off da rock and come to Little Rock. π
IpuMan. dat was funny!
And this for Garret?
An engineer finally splurged on a luxury cruise to the Caribbean. It was the “craziest” thing he had ever done in his life. Just as he was beginning to enjoy himself, a hurricane roared upon the huge ship, capsizing it like a child’s toy. Somehow the engineer, desperately hanging on to a life preserver, managed to wash ashore on a secluded island. Aside from beautiful scenery, a spring-fed pool, bananas and coconuts, there was little else. He lost all hope and for hours on end, sat under the same palm tree.
Then, one day, after several months had passed, a gorgeous woman in a small rowboat appeared. “I’m from the other side of the island,” she said. “Were you on the cruise ship, too?” “Yes, I was,” he answered. “But, where did you get that rowboat?” “Well” she said, “I whittled the oars from gum tree branches, wove the reinforced gunnel from palm branches, and made the keel and stern from a Eucalyptus tree.” “But, what did you use for tools?” asked the engineer. “There was a very unusual strata of alluvial rock exposed on the south side of the island. I discovered that if I fired it to a certain temperature in my kiln, it melted into forgeable ductile iron. Anyhow, that’s how I got the tools. But, enough of that,” she said. “Where have you been living all this time? I don’t see any shelter.” “To be honest, I’ve just been sleeping on the beach,” the engineer said. “Would you like to come to my place?” the woman asked.
The engineer dumbfounded nodded humbly. She expertly rowed them around to her side of the island, and tied up the boat with a handsome strand of hand-woven hemp topped with a neat back splice. They walked up a winding stone walk she had laid around a Palm tree. There stood an exquisite bungalow, painted in blue and white. “It’s not much, but I call it home.” Inside, she said, “Sit down, please; would you like to have a drink?” “No, thanks,” said the engineer. “One more coconut juice and I’ll throw up!” “It won’t be coconut juice,” the woman replied. “I have a crude still out back, so we can have authentic Pina Coladas.” Trying to hide his amazement, the man accepted the drink, and they sat down on her couch to talk. After they had exchanged stories, the woman asked, “Tell me, have you always had a beard?” “No,” the engineer replied, “I was clean shaven all of my life until I ended up on this island.” “Well if you’d like to shave, there’s a razor upstairs in the bathroom cabinet.” The man, no longer questioning anything, went upstairs to the bathroom and shaved with an intricate bone-and-shell device honed razor sharp.
Next he showered, not even attempting to fathom a guess as to how she managed to get warm water into the bathroom, and went back downstairs. He couldn’t help but admire the masterfully carved banister as he walked. “You look great,” said the woman. “I think I’ll go up and slip into something more comfortable.” As she did, the engineer continued to sip his Pina Colada. After a short time, the woman, smelling faintly of gardenias, returned wearing a revealing gown ashioned out of pounded palm fronds. “Tell me,” she asked, “we’ve both been out here for a very long time with no companionship. You know what I mean. Haven’t you been lonely, too…isn’t here something that you really, really miss? Something that all men and woman need? Something that would be really nice to have right now! “Yes, there is!” the man replied, shucking off his shyness. “There is something I’ve wanted to do for so long. But on this island all alone, it was just…well, it was impossible.”
“Well, it’s not impossible, any more,” the woman whispered in his ear. The engineer, practically panting in excitement, said breathlessly: “You mean…you actually figured out some way we can CHECK OUR E-MAIL.!!”

The quotation you are trying to use on your shirt was uttered in a public speech, it is not a copyrighted issue. The use of the name might have legal problems. See a practicing attorney who specializes in this sort of thing.
If you use the quote and something like “go Bows” and no name- I would GUESS that you would not need an OK from the snail-like UH people.

IPU Man #258, is that Chuck Noland from FedEx?
Anthony Pierce
was reading about antonio pierce. was not drafted in 2001 out of Arizona because most pro scouts thought him undersized as Linebacker.
looking at his son, marveling at his size. looking at Antonio’s background, not hard to imagine why Anthony is undersized. this warrior reads like a overachiever.
am pulling for Anthony. how Coach Chow found Anthony Pierce i’m not sure. main thing is we found Anthony Pierce. way to go, coaches. way to go.
Welcome to the Warriors, Anthony Pierce. Welcome.
Excuse me if I’m writing this in the wrong place, but does anybody here know where I could find opinions on a company in the United states advertising an IT sales job? i’m not looking…. π go ahead waste your time.
Really not the season I expected out of the mens bball team thusfar. They have shown flashes of how good the should be, but have really disappointed. That is frustrating to say, because when you watch them, they look good out there. They just aren’t getting the W’s like they should be. IMO, this team was supposed to challenge for the WAC title. That aint happenning. Basketball season’s too short. Shame too, cuz they are a darn good team when they gel.
wonder how the mvb doing at Cal Baptist?
kev-1, Miah, Joston, and Vander, have improved over last year, but the main reason why the Bows, are not challenging for the WAC title, is due to the play of Zane. Instead of improving over last year, he has taken a few steps backwards. Not playing up to his potential, very inconsistent. For the Bows to have the inside-out game, he needs his game ever time, not just some times.
we could use a couple more outside shooters.
its time to unleash, miah. its time brah, we know you can shoot the rock.
time to give the shaq more minutes so that he can get in to the flow now that the shock and awe is done.
Steve . . . I agree with the progression of those three. It is especially evident that without Miah, this team struggles. But a good team should be able to make up for the inconsistent play of one player. If that is the problem, then someone from the bench needs to step up and shoot from the outside. Do we not have another shooting guard that can step up if Zane is off?
al . . . +1
kev-1, the other 2 that the Bows do have, are new to D-1, in Hans, and Shaq. The latter is only a freshman. They both will be good next year, but not quite there confidence wise, this year. Gib needs to find someone who can consistently shoot from the outside, for next year, or it will be some of the same things again.
In a 2 or 3 game tournament, if Zane is hot, the Bows can be unstoppable, like in the WAC Tournament. No team in the WAC has shown that they can stop Vander, and Joston.
Um….challenge for the WAC title? Lol…brah, They’ll challenge for the WAC title once his 1st recruiting class reach their 4th year….we only half way there….truth be told the basketball team is right where they are expected to be…in the top half of the conference, not the bottom. You guys expectations are a bit high there.
i’ll start worrying when Gib’s hair starts falling out.

πΏ we save this for very special occasions
War-e-or . . . Notice, I said in my opinion. I disagree though. I think that even with the guys on the team right now, they could have challenged for the title. Look at how they have played against the top teams in the WAC. I’m not knocking the team, or the coach. They will be better in the future. Nothing wrong with high expectations. I guess to be fair, half of me thought they would be inconsistent, yet the more positive half had hoped for better. Regardless, they are fun to watch.
boy o boy. we gonna show the Warriors how fo interact on dis blog, with tutorials

you got ideas of who is expected this weekend trippin?
digging around as we speak.
word is over half a dozen local boys coming in for a trip.
lakalaka and brostek are two.
okay. any ideas of who is coming from the Big Rock?
bhf2, this past weekend, 6 tripped, out of those, 3 committed. This weekend, there will be about 15 tripping, if Chow can get 7 or 8 commits, he will be sitting pretty.
so… did all those 3 commits come tripping last week?
bhf2, Fiso, Marsh, Januska, and Milovale, from what I have heard.
we really need a running back or two in this class. plenty of bull rushers but we need a couple of break your ankle guys too.
lakalaka could start this year.
coprich could be another.
the thing about chow is that he likes to use several guys back there and they all will get to touch the ball. i envision iosefa, leaf, and lister as the bull rushers, blocking type h-backs, or 3rd down guys.
jackson will get his minutes too.
i no you said yes. i’m asking you to swear on your pinky that they came π
319…yup.
bhf2, from what I can gather, yes, those 3 committed after tripping here.
and don’t we have a break your ankles junior from Florida?
he’d like to get at least 9 in now.
saving one for later…you’ll see.
bhf2…we don’t have any junior rb’s this year. just one senior, a couple of sophs, and a few rsf.
but, they were all recruited to be the solo back in the rns.
kden
all this wonderful news is exhilirating. CHOWunderful! CHOWESUM!
got hid day hay, gang. sweet Warrior Dreams.
thanks Al. always can count on you to know da skinnys.
thank you, friends. looking forward to see you on the other side of the
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz……………
al, those “break your ankle” rb’s could come from a couple of players that played the inside receiver position last year. Do not be surprised if you see Miah back there.
I’d like to see that. Was watching KHON2 news tonight talking about Moleni coming in. really looking forward to spring practice so we can spy on da gang, and fall practice when the whole platoon shows up.
thanks Steve and al.
and really looking forward to watchin how the coaches motivate the entire team to show up. INTENSE is what i’m looking forard to. NO QUIT in the WINNER.
logjam…what to do with 10 receivers on scholie and 6 walkons?
we’ll probably pick up one or two more speedy guys this year.
perhaps a guy like chinedu amadi could switch over to rb as he excelled in running and receiving in his senior hs year. he’s got decent size at 5’9″/185 lbs
see…
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/282279/chinedu-amadi
al, that is what I am talking about, even Anguay, or Allen Simpson, who has the speed to get to the outside, just needs to hit the weights. π
probably the best athlete we recruited two years ago has been bouncing back from defense to offense to defense.
the past coach just didn’t know what to do with him, like lolotai, thank God the kid kept patient.
in hs he was a standout qb who passed for 1700 yds and ran another 750 yds accounting for 32 td’s. yet, the put him on defense to offense to defense.
why? look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_f1MvaZvawQ&feature=player_embedded#!
looks like he could flourish as a rb. excellent speed as well. 4.4 40 10.9 100m 21.6 200m. 4.09 ss

anguay tore up the oia’s. elusive and fast with deceptive power.
allen sampson was plant hs go to guy. jitterbug.
they both need to switch their training table to rainbow drive inn. mixed plate all rice gravy all over. especially sampson who cannot gain weight at all. lucky he put on 5 lbs since he got here.
al, looks like Chow knows he has quite a few scatbacks to choose from, reason why he is not really going after any. But needs those big “Big Ten” type offensive lineman, to open the holes for these scatbacks. Chow really knows what he is doing. π
These people keep calling my house asking me if I’m interested in HGH. I swear that is a strange call to get. Maybe I should give them Sampson’s number?
Congrats to Sollie!
Night all!
Sampson, needs to eat with the offensive, and defensive lineman, especially the local boys. They will fatten him up real quick. He’s probably eating with the DB’s, not good, will not gain anything eating with them. π
kev-1
so my true story is awaiting moderation.
sheesh.
let me try to redo it.
kev-1…today i got a call from one of those “out of area” places. so i decided to answer. a female with a heavy mid-eastern accent said she was calling from a canadian pharmacy.
i said, “nah what would i need from you guys?”
lady says, “maybe you like to order some vi*gra with no prescription?”
i said, “what! vi*gra?”
she said, “yah, vi*gra. low cost vi*gra. much cheaper than american pharmacy.”
i says to her, “nah, too late for vi*gra for me.”
she, “ummm. what you said?”
me, i laugh uncontrollably, and say, “bye, bye”
true story.
steve…i’ve heard that he has tried everything.
Lol al…. you should’ve played around with her.
al . . . that’s too funny. I bet she wasn’t expecting that.
Regarding Sampson trying everything to gain weight, but can’t . . . I wish I had that problem. I can gain 5 pounds from just being around fast food. The problem is that when I’m around fast food, it gets into my stomach . . . fast.
Braddah should start eating poi daily.
Awesome post! I will keep an on eye on your blog.
this works for me…
one order chinese roast pork or lechon kawali.
3-4 baked manapua
4 pork hash
1 order chow fun or mein
1 jin dui or rice cake (for dessert)
steady diet of the above at least once a day can add 5-7 lbs per week depending if you drink lite beer or heinekens.
oh…that just made me hungry.
is tin tin chop suey still open???
Actually, poi alone going make him lose weight. It’s da stuff dat most of eat with the poi that makes one gain weight. Da kalua pig, laulau, beef stew, pipikaula, squid lu’au, lomi salmon, chincken long rice, ahi poke, haupia, kulolo, and stuffs lidat that make da person gain weight. In Shintani’s Hawaii diet, you eat poi and fruits and vegetables, and you lose weight. No can forget da ‘ono oddah stuffs to eat wit’ da poi.
Al- I just wen close the place…
still ono…
ajoe…what you didn’t call us?
Actually, NFL offensive linemen dat have to gain weight eat hotcakes to go along with whatever meal that they are eating. Some say that the hotcakes work real well for weight gain.
Hotcakes
Waffles
French Toast
Plenty Butter
Plenty Syrup
Lil bit of eggs on da side wit some bacon, spam, or vienna sausage. Couple months of that and Sampson will be roly poly.
pride. …is that why i gained 6 lbs this weekend?
the kona ohana brought over some turkey tail laulau, venison kalua, opihi, dry opelu. so we complemented that with lomi salmon, poke’s, pulehu meat, organic maui poi, kulolo, left over cake from dhead bakery. some beer to wash em down.
oh and since it was chinese new year brought home some jai and roast pork.
353…den he would be the shortest nose guard in d1 ball.
darn no wonder…i just love pancakes.
house of pancakes, koa pancake house, jack’s, tasty crust, auwe.
abercrombie should have stayed in congress.
fuud?
Tin Tin made the best manapua.
Now I have a manapua and roast pork craving.
…hmmm, just 3 hours before the first batches come out.
Good night, guys.
(I think)
BTW, DPK was saying we have to make that midnight run to Shiro’s one night. π
Refer to it as DPK’s Midnight Call….

Hey ST, I was wondering if you have heard if the current coaching staff has reached out to any of the alumni who are in town for the Pro Bowl in terms of visiting with the recruits this weekend. I know D. Bess, Grice-Mullen, C. Owens, Pilares are all in town. Seems like it would go a long way with these recruits to hangout and hear from these guys about how great it was to go to school and play for the green and black!
