    Last?! We’ll show them!

  7. Shoko July 22, 2013 6:05 am

Not surprising the Warriors are the true underdogs this season by most prognosticators. When building a program, sometimes you have to start at the bottom and work your way up, rather than riding a wave of hype only to have it come crashing down short of expectations like the 2010 season.

    Good Morning Folks!

    Okay, we last…dagnabbit!

No one is expecting Hawaii to be successful–so, lets prove them wrong!

    Great Morning All!

Remember: 0-12 to the greatest turnaround.

    It can happen…BELIEVE!!!

  11. greenthumb July 22, 2013 6:24 am

Wonder if the coaches will post today’s predictions in the locker rooms as motivation? Or do the opposite and totally downplay?

  12. greenthumb July 22, 2013 6:24 am

    * “the coaches” should be “our coaches”

    GOOD MORNING HAWAII!

  15. Last Call July 22, 2013 6:28 am

You can tell Ben Jay is a clueless main-lander, recently he tweeted that the football team was the flagship of UH athletics.

Geezzz Ben everyone knows it’s Shoji’s Wahine, where you been ?

Must be tough to wake up every morning and be an A$$!

  17. jm2375 July 22, 2013 6:37 am

    Good morning Tsaikos!

Picked to finish last? Yeah, well, we all know about pre-season predictions. They’re good for bulletin board material but not much else.

  18. Shoko July 22, 2013 6:39 am

I’m assuming, since the MWC website is down, they will be posting the coach and athlete interviews on their YouTube website later today.

    http://www.youtube.com/user/MountainWestConf/videos

  19. Inyoface July 22, 2013 6:41 am

Pre-season polls are like …….., I won’t even go there.

  20. Wondis July 22, 2013 6:43 am

The only good thing about this coming season for the Rainbow Warrior Football team is it will be very easy to get to the stadium as has been for the past few years as there will be no traffic except for USC game, (maybe 41,000 in the stands), the ticket holder freebies won’t be there so that certainly helps with the traffic flow.

  21. PurpleMaple July 22, 2013 7:04 am

Can’t argue with Hawaii being picked last. They earned it by playing as badly as they did last season. So bad that even Taylor Graham can’t change the perception that Hawaii is so far down that it will take a lot more than a new quarterback, one untested at that, to change things around. Plus, Hawaii lost its starting left tackle, one of its starting WRs and arguably, its best running back. Let alone Mike Edwards to the NFL. All significant losses. One thing for sure, a lot of players got significant playing experience and can build from that. We’ll see just how much they improved over the off-season.

  22. Pomai July 22, 2013 7:17 am

    11 – 3 nuff said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  23. Whats up July 22, 2013 7:19 am

I know it’s year 2 of Chow and his staff rebuilding the Warriors program, but wow last place! I have low expectations this season, but not dead last, maybe second or third to last place I would believe, but not dead last in the western division. That is crazy!

  24. Pomai July 22, 2013 7:19 am

Really doesn’t matter where we are picked to start, matters only where we finish!!!!!!!

  25. Stephen Tsai July 22, 2013 7:27 am

We will be enforcing the one-personality rule.

  26. NYUHTX July 22, 2013 7:29 am

I think PurpleMaple’s point about many of team getting playing time is a key positive point about the upcoming season.

  27. Wes'side Warrior July 22, 2013 7:31 am

    Morning, Gang!

I don’t know about the rest of you, but we are finally back home, and I am really excited to be able to see our Warriors in action. None of these midnight/early morning games!

Don’t care what anyone else says or thinks about this team… especially the “experts”. Just want to see them give their all and improve week to week. Hope they’ll surprise everyone.

    Have a great day, ya’ll!

    Erm… I mean… um… have one good-fun kine day!

  28. Orioles 4 eva. July 22, 2013 7:36 am

Talk about low expectations in the MWC. We have nowhere to go but up.

  29. HiFlyer July 22, 2013 7:37 am

    Good morning Hawaii

    Beat USC

  30. Steve P July 22, 2013 7:38 am

I have to kind of laugh at our last place pick this year. I mean what else could the voters do after last years results? Does this mean we are automatically toast? I dont think so. Look at its this way—at this point Chow has nothing to lose so will no doubt pull out all the stops and scheme the games less conservatively than he’s accustomed. After all, as they say, the other team can only put eleven guys at a time on the field just like UH. If we play heads up ball, we will always be in it…and when that happens there is always a chance to win.

Some one pointed out we have a lot of new recruits coming in as if that is a negative…that these gusy are..new to Hawaii, new to Chow and new in some cases, to college football. Hey, that doesn’t mean some of them can’t play well and in a few cases even play great! Pre season picks are usually based on sound statistics….but almost never play out as expected. There’s always a caveat somewhere. Im’ betting Hawii places somewhere in the middle of the pack.

  31. wasabi July 22, 2013 7:39 am

Did CWM retire? He’s listed as lost lettermen in media guide but havent heard anything here?

  32. Stephen Tsai July 22, 2013 7:47 am

He apparently has a condition that would make it difficult for him to be cleared to play.

He is on the team (as is Jordan Loeffler), but because he’s a senior, it really doesn’t matter if he takes a medical retirement or is held out until he is cleared. Either way, he remains on scholarship.

It is a shame, though, because he is talented, but we never got to really see him play because of injuries.

  33. wasabi July 22, 2013 7:50 am

    Thanks!

  34. al July 22, 2013 7:56 am

bighilofan2…is alive and kicking. just got off the phone with the bhf2 guy. he, as hilobilly reported has had a handful of mishaps and medical conditions.

but, like bhf2 said, when things happen that threaten your life you get down to business. he’s been getting in shape, eating right, and laying off the green bottles. he has lost over 50 lbs!!!

he plans to make the first game’s tailgate!!!!

  35. Shoko July 22, 2013 8:08 am

That’s good to hear that BHF2 is taking a healthier approach in life. Losing 50 pounds is staying ahead of the curve. Wish folks wouldn’t wait until health issues arise to make changes to their lifestyle. Which reminds me, now would be a good time to lay off the bottle (until football season starts).

By being on the bottom at least the Warriors can show improvement. The energy is flowing, let the games begin.

Looks like I have to keep my personalities in check today. 😆

Anyone know if Dejon Allen is playing offense or defense yet? Not sure if ST posted that before.

  66. SteveM July 22, 2013 9:22 am

    Good morning everyone!

Kinda tough seeing us ranked last in the list of very familiar West division teams. Only San Diego State is relatively unfamiliar over the years–and our last game with them didn’t go so well. But, gotta play the games on the field!

  67. boolakanaka July 22, 2013 9:23 am

WarriorNY–great idea….I can call-in some favors at some bars in my hood; free pitchers and pupus, will unmask these lurkers!

  68. haka July 22, 2013 9:26 am

“We understand, given our wins and losses from last year, being placed where we’re at,” UH quarterback Taylor Graham said. “We’re going to embrace the underdog role. We definitely have a chip on our shoulder. We have a lot to prove. We’re looking forward to that.”

Defensive tackle Saui Matagiese said: “I don’t want to say I don’t pay attention to (the poll). It motivates us. We’ll use it as a driving force.”

Yeah, and what does the media know anyway! 😉

The game hinges on every play. Play like it!

    Mental toughness and physical dominance.

Create the edge. Be the difference!

    Let’s Go Rainbow Warriors!

  69. Shoko July 22, 2013 9:27 am

With all the American media attention the British Monarchy gets here in the US, you would think that we still are ruled by the British. If I was a member of the Tea Party, I would find this extremely disturbing.

  70. PurpleMaple July 22, 2013 9:35 am

It was reported previously that Dejon Allen is slotted to play DT. His quickness and size makes him a good addition in the rotation. Just needs playing time. Probably won’t see too much in the early season though. Speaking of DTs, Hunter Thompson appears a lot bigger (in his picture) than his listed 245 lbs. He has a huge neck. And in spite of my earlier post, I am looking for Hawaii to beat Fresno St. Just a perennial optimist-dreamer. I like our secondary.

  71. jimmy the lock July 22, 2013 9:41 am

Work hard, take care of business, good things will come.

    GO RAINBOW WARRIORS!

  72. Old School Dave July 22, 2013 9:42 am

Didn’t Bullwinkle (from Rocky and Bullwinkle fame) play quarterback for Wassamata U?

Nice thing about this time of the year is that all of the college football teams are undefeated 0-0.

  73. Tolkien Warrior July 22, 2013 9:44 am

Don’t worry gang. Those rankings are expected. We totally manhandled UNLV last year so how are they ranked above us? We’re better, but are they that much improved from last year? Maybe they had many key injuries? Anyway, it’s THE perfect spot for the Rainbow Warriors. No expectations by anyone in MWC.

    my scouting report:

Fresno St’s Derek Carr: 6’3″ / 220 lbs. / SR – Pros: Has experience. Puts in the work. Good student. Has some mobility. Throws short/medium with good velocity. Able to throw across body on a scramble. Decent size. Spreads ball around decently. Can pick apart a soft coverage. Gets the ball to best athletes. Cons: Can extend play with legs, but not elite feet. Had 66 rushes for 1 yard in 2012. Can rush throws and/or can have happy feet in the pocket / feels pressure. Little off throwing to receivers in stride. Doesn’t always set feet affecting deep balls. Can have problems with accuracy at any distance. Doesn’t throw well in tight coverage. Favorite target is Davante Adams (expected to be top receiver in MWC West). TE not major target at least last year. Solid QB, but not elite and does have areas that can be exploited.

As much as is said about Carr’s talents, he does have his weaknesses. If you can put pressure on Carr, you can disrupt his timing. I think SJSU’s QB Fales is a better athlete and has a bigger arm. Just my opinion. They are about the same size height/weight.

Expect good things from TG. He’s tall and he’s put on bulk. His footwork and mechanics have gotten better. His knowledge has expanded. He’s the QB we wished we had in years past. Our veteran WR’s must step it up. Timing patterns must be clean. Sky’s the limit with the passing game. He doesn’t have the runner’s mentality so that means loads of opportunity for others.

Support the team, they are working extremely hard and should put good results on the field. TG is the QB we always wished we had. He’s not the QB of the future. He’s the QB of now. Be excited. Go to the games. Make plenty of noise.

    Go Warriors!

  85. Buffoman July 22, 2013 10:35 am

the “uh, oh” moment for the pundits and opponents will come when the two, not so talked about phases of the game just dominate. I believe when the defense just stops the opponents and our special teams just function as they did in the early Tomey days, folks will stop taking the Warriors as an “easy win” game.

If this happens quickly, it will give the offense the time to work the game plan as field position does not wind up being so hurtful to mounting a good drive.

Let’s hope these things come to pass. I am the optimist.

Commissioner Mike Slive last week at SEC media days let the NCAA know in no uncertain terms that they needed to change. And he is as powerful as the come in college sports (or maybe sports in general.) He called for changing the makeup like Bowlsby AND he called for giving revenue sport players a stipend like $4,000 a year. Ever seen how much money the NCAA makes off of these kids?

  102. Brad July 22, 2013 11:43 am

#15 last call… UH football or any Division 1 football is the flagship of their program no matter how bad they are. They are the $$$ generators that LEAD all sports in revenue. They will make way more money than a national championship volleyball team. At least though we are making money from women’s volleyball and not losing like all the other Divison 1 teams.

I’m sorry ST because I know you cover men’s volleyball but you think Ben Jay will look hard at all his programs and get rid of the men’s team? Its not what it once was when they could recruit all stars from the international teams. And since it is not part of the Big West it’s not that popular.

If they ever drop a men’s team they should add men’s soccer. Look at how many organization we have statewide. The sport has way more college teams than men’s volleyball. They would play in the Big West and have the same amount of games as volleyball.

  107. dream city mike July 22, 2013 12:54 pm

I saw #15 this a.m. and was going to state that football is the flagship sport of any university or college that competes in a league or conference. Our WV program us one of the rare revenue generating programs in the country. We must not be so naive as to say that BJ is this or that! Remember we are from the “islands” he came here from the mainland by way of Asia!

  108. jimmy the lock July 22, 2013 12:57 pm

Looks like some don’t care to dare.

Hey ST, how come the sports writers don’t cover the summer youth baseball tournaments? Would be good to know who, what, and from where will be repping the 808 on the mainland.

  109. Bryson July 22, 2013 1:13 pm

So who was the mystery DE?

  110. MattyBoy July 22, 2013 1:20 pm

Nice free trip for the mystery DE and his Grandma. Unreal.

  111. cocobean July 22, 2013 1:27 pm

Last? No big deal. Preseason polls are preceptions not reality.

The biggest negative of being picked last is the effect it may have on the casual UH fan. The hardcores will buy tickets come hell or high water, it’s the fence sitters that may be influenced by the polls. The ones that don’t want to spend money to see a “junk” team.

Attendance(paid ticket sales) has always been my biggest concern for any UH revenue sport. UH athletics has always been a part of life. I really dread the thought of UH starting the season on a losing streak. Hope Ben J and his team are gaming planning for such a scenario.

  112. Independent Thinker July 22, 2013 1:36 pm

This is crazy! Don’t these writers know and understand chow is a offensive and football genius. I mean, after all, he recruited a Duke football bench warmer to be the starter for UH last season. Then he recruited another bench warmer to start this season. These are bold moves only a true offensive genius like chow would understand. The fools. Sports writers who voted UH and therefore chow last do not know anything about football.

[The above was brought to you as a service announcement for the “chow time” supporters. Now, back to regular programming.]

Polls of the type which pronounced the UH last under chow, by reporters who cover the league, reflect the thoughts of writers and thinkers re: who, among the coaches at these fine schools, is making good decisions re: who plays and who doesn’t; who did good recruiting; who is making sound decisions now re: starters, etc.

It is obvious from the poll results many non “chow time” observers see chow as bringing not much of anything to the UH and its prospects for the upcoming season. Say what you want about the poll and the voters who voted in the poll, but these are the observations of those who have not sipped the chowade.

To those who think sadly that the UH under chow has a chance at beating USC, better think again. The word delusional comes to mind.

Just waiting for the UH to hire a Noga or a Tanuvasa to head the program. I prefer we hire a local player who has played in the NFL and who knows what it takes to be the best of the best. Chow does not fit that bill and unfortunately for me, this is why I have never really believed in chow. That and the fact that all the other major programs declined to hire chow as HC. This should have told the UH something.

  113. Shoko July 22, 2013 1:49 pm

    Love the optimism!

  114. cocobean July 22, 2013 1:50 pm

    Indy.

Are you saying UH made a mistake by not hiring Miano? A local player who played 11 seasons in the NFL with as many years college coaching experience?

  115. jimmy the lock July 22, 2013 1:51 pm

Must be different writers and thinkers from the MWC and the WAC. In 2010 the WAC-o’s voted UH to finish 5th but instead ended up as co-champs. Who woulda thunk it.

Anyone what his connection to the school is? Why did he contact us of all people? It’s crazy how it was kept this quiet….

I hope he enjoys the beaches and enrolls next week…

  118. LizKauai July 22, 2013 2:00 pm

    Hiya!

Well, I have secured my plane reservations and a ticket to the USC game.

Gonna start the season with green hair and a big T-Gate farewell to MeiLing who made it possible for me to be a season ticket holder the past few years!

Win or lose, this 12th man will be IN DA HOUSE on August 29, God Willing

  119. Stephen Tsai July 22, 2013 2:04 pm

There also was a tight end from a BCS school who wanted to come to UH.

But after the vetting process, it was decided it would not be a good match.

  120. Independent Thinker July 22, 2013 2:06 pm

Just to clarify, in case my previous post was tl;dr, I wanted to condense what I wrote for clarity. What I’m trying to say is, 1) I’m pompous and arrogant (hence my user name that implies that I’m better and more educated than anyone posting here and in other forums on SA because i’m an “independent thinkier”), 2) I don’t really know about football or the strengths and weaknesses of Taylor Graham OR sean shroeder. all i know is, they were on the bench at their schools so they must suck. 3) I’ve never played sports at a high level in my life or coached, which is why I think in order to be a good coach, you need to have played in the NFL, despite the fact that most of the very good/great college coaches both in football and basketball were not nfl greats. coaching and playing are two different skillsets.

and 4) I have no idea how the preseason polling works and am being contrarian just to be contrarian.

    thank you.

  121. iwonderwhytheyhateme July 22, 2013 2:10 pm

So still get good chance to land the lion king guy?

  125. Shoko July 22, 2013 2:22 pm

Regarding the polls, since MWC formed in 1999, the media has correctly picked winner in its preseason football poll in 6-of-14 seasons, a success rate of 42.9%.

I dunno about you folks, but I’m feeling a lot better knowing this fact!

  126. WarriorNY July 22, 2013 2:22 pm

Looking back on the blog from the other day… It’s kinda funny how ST and Jeezy changed the subject when someone guessed it right…

  127. Shoko July 22, 2013 2:23 pm

Okay, all pau for the day. Let’s just get this season started already!

  128. Tanuki July 22, 2013 2:24 pm

    #112

I understand the sarcasm since the quality of Chows recruits have been a mixture of hype and hope. The measurables such as height and speed from high schools and junior colleges are as reliable as catching a nice papio for dinner.

  129. Ballpicker July 22, 2013 2:28 pm

    FUNNY!

  130. Bigislandkurt July 22, 2013 2:46 pm

My expectations for this season? I have no expectations. It will save me (and my family) a lot of grief that way. Super tough season up ahead. I just hope for a few improvements.

ONward and UPward my Rainbow Warrior Brothers.

    BIK

  131. Stephen Tsai July 22, 2013 2:47 pm

    D-end is visiting this week.

He’s also paying his own way. No cost to UH.

  132. haka July 22, 2013 2:48 pm

You have to play the hand dealt to you and all the cards have been dealt. Fall camp is days away and the team is all-in. The way I see it, I am too. I have nothing to lose by fully endorsing my team. I don’t need to be right. I don’t need to be smart. I don’t have to be a know-it-all. Heck, I don’t even have to know who we’re playing. I just have to know what time the game starts and what to bring to the tailgate. It doesn’t matter if I am wrong in my assessment of the team or if I am even pronounced delusional by the end of game one. I can be the only fool on the hill at practice and it doesn’t matter to me. It’s my team. Hawaii, that’s my team and as a fan, I got their backs. Folding is not an option. I fear not the undesirable result. Anything is possible; that’s why you play the game. I will always be all-in. Go Rainbow Warriors!

  133. Buffoman July 22, 2013 2:55 pm

Haka! Wow, someone here puts real thought before putting fingers to keyboard. Well put and for me at least, I echo your thoughts on being a loyal fan. I’m sure many here feel the same way.

Wow, the DE is paying his own way?!? Is there an island connection?

  134. Da punchbowl Kid July 22, 2013 2:58 pm

In the stating the obvious department: I seem to recall a few guys in the past who were not superstars in HS or College who went on to record breaking careers here at UH! Hows about we let the players play and the coaches coach before we throw shade on any of them. Otherwise, why, we’re hardly any better than the pollsters who say this team is last. That’s why we play the games!

    GO WARRIORS!!!

    WE BELIEVE!!!

  135. Da punchbowl Kid July 22, 2013 2:59 pm

that should be a capitol “P” in Punchbowl above.

  136. Da punchbowl Kid July 22, 2013 3:02 pm

Why don’t you tell the people what they really want to know, Mr. Tsai – how ya makin’ out at the table? 😆

  137. dream city mike July 22, 2013 3:10 pm

It’s obvious IT that you have never “participated” (purposely omitted “played”)in sports to say current qbs were bench warmers dooms them for life? To say you are better and more educated does not mean your thinking independently!

  138. inu July 22, 2013 3:21 pm

    # 138: somebody missed the satire in post 120. It was obviously somebody who read Independent Thinker’s original post and then posted as his user name to point out that he really has no idea what he’s talking about and is just an arrogant jerk.

  139. dream city mike July 22, 2013 3:26 pm

To think we have no chance against SC is Negatively Thinking. Let’s back our warriors with positive vibes as we methodically scratch and crawl our way to the top of MWC!

  140. Da Punchbowl Kid July 22, 2013 3:38 pm

There now, I’ve corrected my name. The three consecutive posts from 134 to 135 were me. 137 is not.

Why anyone would want to post as me totally escapes me. But it was funny that I didn’t correct my name in the name box. Cold meds…

  141. bugaz July 22, 2013 3:39 pm

I look forward to see how the season plays out. I fir one don’t think they’ll finish st the bottom. I am hopeful to ca tch some overseas victories as well as the home town wins as well. Mahalo Warriors!!!

  142. dream city mike July 22, 2013 3:40 pm

Anyone can post what they want but to be negative and say we no chance and that we already lost the game… and state that I’m delusional or something to that effect! Bradda I despies that to no end! Onward and upward warriors.

  145. Independent Thinker July 22, 2013 3:52 pm

I have no rebuttal for any arguments because I thought I was picking on mentally deficient football fans, but once I saw someone mimic my name and blow up my argument in a satirical way.. god! so now i’ll just be the worst troll possible and get my posts deleted and my IP banned.

yay me! i’m so smart and intelligent. independent thinker. that’s me!

  146. BG July 22, 2013 3:54 pm

I finally get an internet connection sitting here in the Kwajalein food court and able to scan the WB. Pleasantly surprised to see comment by “Tanuki”. Is this THE tanuki whose WAC blog I visited daily? If so, a special welcome to the clubhouse.

Wow we even have someone into astronomy …they’re all students or athletes or people or employees nothing to do w/ stars!

  148. Inyoface July 22, 2013 4:23 pm

This is like the game Clue, who’s telling the truth?! Lol

  149. Derek July 22, 2013 4:26 pm

Thankfully, the games are not won based on what the media or the coaches poll says. The big question every year is what kinds of injuries will affect all teams as far as depth go. If Fresno St.’s Carr, or San Jose St.’s Fales, or Nevada’s Fajardo get hurt that’s a big blow to their teams. That’s the game of football. UH has had their share of significant injuries last year and our depth wasn’t very deep. This year, I believe we have more good players that can play Division I (FBS) football at a higher level so I think that’s a big plus.

If anything, the Rainbow Warriors should have a chip on their shoulders and will have added motivation. Every game they play against is practically a revenge game. Las Vegas is more like a grudge game. I believe we will beat UNLV in Vegas this year. If anything, this year promises to be almost like a perfect storm for Hawaii to upset some people this year. We will not be any worse. We will be a lot better. The fact that the media predictions in past years were not very good also is another reason why pre-season polls are meaningless. What matter most is the end of the season. One game at a time. Up first, USC.

Coach Bud coming up on 1420. Dick Tomey to follow.

  151. Da Punchbowl Kid July 22, 2013 4:41 pm

Does the redundancy in “mentally obtuse” mean we’re actually smart?

  152. Shoko July 22, 2013 4:53 pm

Not sure. I don’t even know what redundancy means.

  153. lava July 22, 2013 5:12 pm

I have one personality, and we both don’t trust Chow.

If he proved many of us wrong, wouldn’t he have the last laugh.

The other coaches aren’t expecting it. Seems nearly impossible though.

  156. Warrior Dave July 22, 2013 5:24 pm

Great players do not always turn into great coaches. I have to laugh whenever someone pulls a name from the past to say they should be HC at UH. Gee, they’ve been away from the game for 15-20 years now and don’t even coach high school football and these fans want them to be UH HC? Get real please.

  157. Shoko July 22, 2013 5:34 pm

Yikes! That doesn’t speak highly of Coach Naole. 😉

  158. Shoko July 22, 2013 5:37 pm

Listening to the Sports Animals, it seems Dick Tomey didn’t mind playing those body bag games while at SJSU.

  159. Shoko July 22, 2013 5:39 pm

Anyway, sorry to say that the MWC Media days are disappointing compared to last year. Last year, they at least offered to stream interviews from their website for folks not in attendence.

  160. Stephen Tsai July 22, 2013 5:46 pm

    Boo hoo.

  161. Derek July 22, 2013 6:00 pm

For some reason, when I think of Fresno State I have this image of the carnage they took against SMU in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl last Xmas Eve. The were heavy favorites by about 11 points, but it was no contest as June Jones and Co. took them to the cleaners. Either the Fresno State offense that day was bad, maybe the defense too, or the SMU defense was that good. SMU DE Margus Hunt was unblockable and Derek Carr was running for his life on just about every play. That probably was it in a nutshell. Chow and staff must look at the film several times to find a way to slow FSU down. Just based on that day, I thought that Fresno State could be beat. The fact that this year the game is in Hawaii gives me the sense that the Rainbow Warriors will remember what happened last year in Fresno St. It would be a big time revenge game. And I well remember back then in the 60s or early 70s that Hawaii beat Fresno St at old Honolulu Stadium 49-0, one of the most shocking games I ever saw. More recently, Fresno St. and David Carr came to Aloha Stadium and Hawaii beat them in OT on Ashley Lelie’s great catch in the corner of the end zone. That was some exciting game.

  162. Shoko July 22, 2013 6:10 pm

Boise State just lost a 2013 signee, Kendal Keys who was granted a release from his scholarships. That adds to the list of early departures that include, DE Sam Ukwuachu, QB Jimmy Laughrea, CB Eric Agbaroji, DB Lee Hightower TE Hayden Plinke, K Jake Van Ginkel DT Jeff Worthy and OL Adam Sheffield.

Guess they weren’t considered to be one of Coach Pete’s “our-kind-of-guy” type players. Good for Fresno State if they meet up in the conference championship.

  163. Shoko July 22, 2013 6:19 pm

Last seasons Hawaii Bowl reminds me of the 2009 Hawaii Bowl where JJ put a spanking on Nevada when they were favored by 15 points. Score 45-10.

  164. gobows July 22, 2013 6:31 pm

DPK here’s a few that had record breaking careers…ashley lelie, chad owens, mana silva, and richard torres.

  165. gobows July 22, 2013 6:35 pm

gotta agree with last call…should have been seventh or eighth. good to see they had the least amount of points in the conference. how often does media predictions come out right? hardly ever. august 29th, hawaii football – shock the world.

  166. Independent Thinker July 22, 2013 6:54 pm

151, Da Punchbowl Kid: no, becuase “mentally” does not negate “obtuse.” It’s like saying someone is “physically obese.” It doesn’t mean the person isn’t fat, it just means the person saying that phrase is an idiot.

  167. dream city mike July 22, 2013 6:59 pm

Lot of defectors at Boise. Are recruits having 2nd thoughts about their decisions , not sold on coaches pitch for program or doubting their own abilities?

  168. mike808 July 22, 2013 7:04 pm

at least we’re picked 6th and not 12th. let’s go imua!

  175. Da Punchbowl Kid July 22, 2013 9:37 pm

    obtuse [əbˈtjuːs]

    adj

    1. mentally slow or emotionally insensitive

At the very least a redundancy, potentially a double negative, creating a positive.

Kind of like saying “negative troll”.

  176. gobows July 22, 2013 9:50 pm

sign at schofield: thank you and mahalo

    freakin idiots are everywhere

is there such a thing as a short midget?

  177. Independent Thinker July 22, 2013 9:55 pm

DPK: yes, it’s redundant. but it’s not a double negative. a double negative is like this: “you can’t not go in the building.” which really means “you can go in the building.” or “officer, that’s not not my crack pipe in the car.” in the case of “mentally obtuse,” the word “mentally” is not a negation of anything. it’s the adverb that is describing the word “obtuse.” so it’s just redundant and something an arrogant douchebag who thinks he’s smarter than he actually is would say.

  178. iwonderwhytheyhateme July 22, 2013 11:05 pm

one of the things i hope obamacare will address is the access to anti-psychotic drugs for people with mental problems.

in the mean time, i would like to start a tsaiko-fund to help those individuals (and their personalities) who post on this blog get the help and medication they so desperately need.

Most men lead lives of quiet desperation, others can’t seem to shut the **** up.

DING!!! Round over, fighters back to your corners……or should we send it to ST for a decision? Hehe
