McMackin chat

During today’s video chat, McMackin said:
• The quarterback depth chart is, in this order: Greg Alexander, Brent Rausch, Shane Austin.
• Austin goes on scholarship in the fall.
• Inoke Funaki will be used as a “bulldog” — a running back/slotback hybrid position.
• If Funaki can’t block, he’ll move back to quarterback, as the backup to Alexander.
• Antwan “Tua” Mahaley will be used as a tight end in the fall. (He won’t practice there in the spring.)
• It appears Jeramy “J.B.” Bryant has locked down one of the cornerback positions.
• They’re going to borrow one of the punt schemes used by Cincinnati.
• Punt returner candidates: Dustin Blount, Ryan Henry, Jovonte Taylor, Kealoha Pilares.

Update from Florida Patti, whose husband, Florida Ted, suffered a stroke last night:

I know he logs in everyday and enjoys communicating with you all.  Today he was a lot better, they moved him from ICU into a private room.  He is able to move his arm  & leg, and can speak a little.  They are conducting a series of test of him and hopefully we will know by the end of the week what kind of damage has been done.
I just ask that you all keep him in your prayers and if anyone would like to drop a line, I will save them for him so he can read them when he does return home.  Thank you with much love and Aloha
Florida Patti

    ST & Tsaiko Blog Dogs,

Here is my question for Coach Mack…

Coach, now that you have your first year as Warrior Head Coach under your belt, was there anything you encountered that was unexpected? What modifications to the team process you will be working on over the Spring and up coming season?

  4. LizKauai (iPhone) March 10, 2009 5:50 am

Coach Mack- Do you see similiar opportunities for UH athletics in Korea or another Asian country in the near future?

  5. las vegas March 10, 2009 5:59 am

    Hi Coach,
Get one Japanese celebrity (such as Kimura Takuya) to wear UH logo wear, such items will become super cool and sell out.
    Instant brand recognition! trust me.

  12. Kekoa March 10, 2009 7:03 am

    Coach Mack ~

Some of us Tsaiko Seniors are concerned about the treatment of the young fans at Aloha stadium especially after the game by sometimes overzealous security personnel.

Q: What would it take to establish a safe ‘Kids Zone’ for youngsters to gather at after the game? A place where maybe just a simple high five would give a kid the thrill of a life time and build that fan base. An autograph, a snapshot, well wishes exchanged that will make memories.

You have already established a venue for this at the Spring Bowl by allowing interaction with the players prior to the scimmage game. From the looks of things, this has become a huge success! Please consider extending it just a little bit to allow a post game moment for the youngsters. Perhaps Fan Appreciation night would be a good time for this idea to be tested.

    Mahalo!
    Kekoa

    GO WARRIORS!

who will serve as RB coach?
    Qualifications?
What adjustments will MAC make in terms of his coaching responsibilities–explain his role on O + D+ game management.

  16. warriorfanny March 10, 2009 7:29 am

Coach MAC–good job on recruiting this year–what about next year’s prospects and geography?
What efforts will he make to reduce take-aways (poachers)?

  17. jm2375 March 10, 2009 7:34 am

    Good morning again.

Off-topic, but still one of the 5 Tsaiko Fs. Drove past Champions this morning, like I do every work day morning, and noticed that the sign for the sushi side was turned around facing inward. Are they closing that part down?

Looking forward to Coach’s comments on their trip to Japan.

  18. warriorfanny March 10, 2009 7:35 am

Coach MAC–Japan market-ventures is a great idea, especially in today’s economy–what is the vision and timetable for implementation?
What capital outlays are required for initially to get it up n running?
How will UHAD source this venture capital?
Do u have revenue projections from the Japan market?

  19. chawan_cut March 10, 2009 7:37 am

    ralph, CRW, kekoa,
no orange sweater here this time. just gonna yell and scream at the crappy wac refs. the arena will most likely be empty for both games. haven’t seen too many green/white/black clad fans.

  20. warriorfanny March 10, 2009 7:38 am

Coach MAC–who will be ur corner-coach?

  21. warriorfanny March 10, 2009 7:43 am

Coach MAC–looks like u scored on the Aussie punter + great strategy to keep 2 scholies available post LOI day–has the Aussie-punter-to be been timed from snap to boot? what are the scouting comments on his ability to punt under pressure?

  22. warriorfanny March 10, 2009 7:49 am

Coach MAC–great grab on Shaw and Tormey.
They have tire mileage at high levels and as proven coaches.
Discuss their credentials as u will incorporate them into ur system and please explain how Gordy will integrate with Ron Lee.
Tell us about Tormey’s recruiting abilities….he has exciting credentials on the field as well as banging on doors.

  23. d1島 March 10, 2009 7:51 am

    Hi Coach Mack,

Would you please discuss specific improvement expectations you have set for your new coaching hires in their respective areas of responsibility?

  25. warriorfanny March 10, 2009 7:58 am

Coach MAC, the first year as head coach had to be a learning experience even for a veteran coach such as you.
What has the first year taught you in general? SpecificALLY ON O, D, STs AND GAME MANAGEMENT.

What adjustments will you be making in terms of your coaches and yourself, especially in the delegation of specific responsibilities. Mahalo coach and Go Warriors!

  26. UHfanzonly March 10, 2009 8:02 am

Coach Mac who do you think are the frontrunners to start on the other side of Jhon Fonoti at DE?

  27. SteveM March 10, 2009 8:34 am

    Good morning Tsaikos!

Welcome to the WB again Coach. Always great to have you here. Thanks for continuing to do such a good job running the program.

Is there anything you’d like to say which hasn’t been asked in a question?

  29. Fan-O-War March 10, 2009 9:01 am

    Dear Coach Mack,
Congratulations on a great recruiting class! My question is have you ever or would you ever consider adding a TE to the offense?

  30. letsgowarriors March 10, 2009 9:07 am

who are you expecting as breakout players this coming season? i have high hopes for meatoga and letuli in the trenches. i like pilares as a hybrid rb/slot. and i hope jeramy bryant is all healed up, i want to see what he can do.

  31. homey ℞ March 10, 2009 9:18 am

Sorry DPK and SteveM for the non-invite, but I visited Hungry Lion this morning and had a loco moco and waffle. I was thinking of both of you as I was savoring the food. Next time…

Coach Mack – Any plans to venture into New Zealand for recruits?

  32. Kona Gold March 10, 2009 9:57 am

Aloha Coach Mack…My question is about Paipai…what is the status on him…do you seriously see him competing for a starting position or serious p.t.?

    Mahalo …Go Warriors!!!!

  33. Kaleolani March 10, 2009 10:02 am

    Aloha Coach Mac,

What is the status of the new football offices and have you had any specific timelines as to when it will be completed? Any word from administration in regards to this question?

Much Mahalo Coach…..simply the very best to you and your Ohana.

  34. WenatcheeWarrior March 10, 2009 10:41 am

    Coach McMackin,

This coming spring, is Greg Alexander the clear-cut starter at QB? Or will we see a push from other QBs?

  35. roysan16 March 10, 2009 11:01 am

    Hello Coach Mack,

The TCU-Boise State match up in the Poinsettia Bowl saw the 4-2-5 defense of TCU handle the Boise offense pretty well.

Much of what I’ve read says 4-2-5 defense is a good defense to counter the spread. What are your thoughts of the 4-2-5 defense, and in retrospect would this type of defense had UH used against Florida last year give Florida a harder time scoring?

  36. jr March 10, 2009 11:14 am

Coach Mac what is the status of RB Daniel Libre?

  37. junichiro March 10, 2009 11:23 am

    Coach Mac

What do you think about the Coach Bolla situation? You get excellent reviews from most if not all you players and former players. How can we prevent player coach conflicts like these?

  38. junichiro March 10, 2009 11:24 am

    Coach Mac

What do you think about the Coach Bolla situation? You get excellent reviews from most if not all you players and former players. How can we prevent player coach conflicts like these?

  39. Ralph March 10, 2009 11:24 am

    Coach Mac
did you seat down with JD and express your interest in playing specific conferences or teams that you would like him to pursue as future opponents? Adding Central Arkansas to the likes of Charleston Southern to the schedule will not bring out the fans, the WAC RPI is already in the abyss…

  40. al ™ March 10, 2009 11:30 am

    aloha coach mack….

what a great job this past year. we were in nearly every game except for the first and last plus oregon state. we could have easily gone 11-3.

my question concerns some of the tough losses. it seemed to me that at times we played to “not lose the game” by going conservative in the fourth quarter rather than “burying” the opponent with what took us to that point in the first place. most glaring of course was the cinci game. will you be more aggressive in that manner this coming year?

  41. BOISE4LIFE March 10, 2009 11:32 am

Hey coach Mac, how well do you Hawaii will do against this years Boise team. In my opinion we’ll do quite well and win with ease.

  42. A-House March 10, 2009 11:43 am

    KapoleiDoc:

from your post last night – Pearman went to play for Virginia aftr leaving Hawaii, but was not really a factor – was mostly a substitue and kick returner on the 2 games I watched.

wish he had stayed and could have made a big contribution.

  43. Ralph March 10, 2009 11:45 am

all of you 49’er fans take note, Alex Smith is back at a lower pay scale based on his performance over the last 4 years…so, what is the minimum wage for an NFL qb who can’t hit his receivers…

  44. Da Punchbowl Kid March 10, 2009 11:46 am

Gosh! What an insightful and informative post! And a great question to boot! What do you expect Coach Mac to say, Boise4life?!

I have one for you, why does Boise need cheap tactics like blue turf to give it an unfair advantage at home? How many other programs see the need for that kind of thing?

We’ll see you at OUR house this year Boise, where fair is fair and the turf is green!

  45. AlaWaiPipeLayer March 10, 2009 11:46 am

    Aloha Coach G-Mac!
First, congratulations for a successful first year. I admire and respect your methodology to the student athletes as well as football.

Please grade your young assistant coaches and GAs on their performance last season e.g. Rolo, Dave, Brian and Craig. I noticed on the sidelines last year that some of them acted more like one of the players than coaches.

With the addition of Coaches Shaw and Tormey, will any of them be given different responsibilities?

Also do you have any plan for hiring a kicking coach? It seems Kelly was left on an island by himself to get out of his funk.

    Thanks for being Hawaii’s coach!

  46. BOISE4LIFE March 10, 2009 11:48 am

Da Punchbowl kid, ALOHA MORE!!! lmao
Also coach mac, could you give insight on how you plan to lose to Boise this year? Thanks.

  47. July Jones March 10, 2009 11:50 am

    Coach MacK,
Do you see yourself in Hawaii past the contract? What would the situation look like if June where to approach you about rejoining the Staff and would you be willing to hand it back over to him.

What excites you about this years team?

What do you see as areas that must be addressed in the Spring for a succesful Year?

  48. al ™ March 10, 2009 11:51 am

    on recruiting……..

you and your staff have done an outstanding job of recruiting this past year. it probably reigns as the best in warrior recruit class in history and from the sounds of it next year will probably top 2009.

you also must be given a hand for recruiting two highly regarded coaches in gordy shaw and chris tormey. besides being technicians in their expertise they also have a history of being excellent recruiters. i know that these two hires were not just accidents but a part of a well thought out plan.

you have shown that given the right amount of time to put the pieces of the puzzle together you will make all the right moves.

again this year, we will be top heavy with seniors, probably as many as this year. will we or must we go back to the junior colleges to pick up the pieces or do you feel we may have enough depth to recruit high schoolers only?

is it my imagination or does it appear that more and more very good jc talent is being left on the table because every one is going to almost exclusively high school recruits? wouldn’t that allow a team to continuously find the colt brennans, greg alexanders, aaron browns, et al and be known as a place for a talented jc’er to call and get recruited?

  49. Da Punchbowl Kid March 10, 2009 11:56 am

You should be able to answer questions about being a loser Boise. As in: What kind of “fan” comes to another team’s blog to insult their coach? The answer: A LOSER!

Save it for the game Boise! Aloha means goodbye!

  50. BOISE4LIFE March 10, 2009 11:59 am

calm down kid, and no I learned from the Rock that Aloha has plenty meanings haha. Besides regarding your pointless question, if the turf gives us an advantage, why has nobody done anything about it?
Now go back to your homework kid, this blog doesn’t need kids in here.

  51. Da Punchbowl Kid March 10, 2009 12:00 pm

    😆

  52. Da Punchbowl Kid March 10, 2009 12:02 pm

    the show starts…

  54. mrs March 10, 2009 12:08 pm

    coach mac,
who, do you feel, will be the teams stand out players this year?

  55. Found-a-Kicker March 10, 2009 12:12 pm

    Coach,

I recently saw a kid kicking at the practice fields; watched him kick field goals – alternating left, right hash mark – 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 yards out and not miss. I talked with him briefly; he said he is freshman, from Wilmington, NC, trying to get on the team. His name was Philip Ballard. Do you know of this kid.

  56. SteveM March 10, 2009 12:16 pm

[sigh] lunch time a work and I cannot get the video feed.

Lots of infrequent posters here today. Hi!

mrs. — still on Kauai? Meet LizKauai someday if you have not already.

Kid — we still gotta to do the midnight cattle call at Hungry Lion some night. Maybe slide over into Shinsho Tei after :). I’ll give homey a call in case he misses it on the blog.

  62. d1島 March 10, 2009 1:00 pm

  63. hoohiki March 10, 2009 1:25 pm

DPK, I got your back! Go get ‘um.

  64. Kazz March 10, 2009 1:25 pm

    DPK and AL,

I think someone who owes both of you lunch from two years ago is still hanging around.

  65. Wayne O. March 10, 2009 1:30 pm

I think the honeymoon is over for coach Mac. This coming year’s team will have to overcome the loss of more than 30 plus players, many on defense. So the concerns on the defensive side of the ball is great especially when last year stop troops weren’t very good. We also have big holes on the offensive line which was just terrible last year. Too many penalties and sacks given up. We led the nation in sacks. So it doesn’t bode well as we go into spring ball. I hope things get better and we have to pray a lot that we will be very pleasantly see an improved team. For sure, the coaching staff need to change things around a lot to find the best players playing together. There are a lot of question marks on this team right now. To be picked 4th or 5th in the pre-season rankings is about right.

  66. Stephen Tsai March 10, 2009 1:35 pm

Just wanted you guys to know that Florida Ted suffered a stroke last night.

  67. Kekoa March 10, 2009 1:39 pm

D-1 ~ The replay was available almost immediately after the ‘live’ segment. He did address your question and offer a complete answer.

Hi-Flyer ~ I agree with you on the audio, but the video stream still drives me crazy! I finally just stopped trying to watch it ‘live’ and picked it up on the replay soon after.

BHF2 ~ I asked the ‘Kid Zone’ question for you my litigating legal-but-loyal fan from the great state of Hilo. Coach likes the idea, now it’s up to you to whip it on that sorority guard and make her ‘heel!’

Princess L ~ 10Q for struggling thru my Question, but I had to get it right or my attorney would sue me!

ST ~ You dazzeled me with your command of the Korean Language! The Tsai-Wai team rolled up another successful interview. So who do we have to look forward to next week?

  68. Stephen Tsai March 10, 2009 1:40 pm

Florida Ted – speedy recovery to you……..”stay good”.

    good afternoon Tsaiko’s……..

“The quarterback depth chart is, in this order: Greg Alexander, Brent Rausch, Shane Austin.”

hey, sounds good! give Alexander a little more time and she go!

  104. mrs. March 10, 2009 3:10 pm

    funaki is out at quaterback…interesting…hmmmm…

    Florida Ted & ohana…God bless…

mrs – a mini cattle call would be good- We have Kymry and Stretch here and I Believe is somewhere around here & tunalvr, and Addahknowsports is a frequent visitor.

  106. LizKauai [Believer] March 10, 2009 3:15 pm

I like what Coach Mack said about Inoke being the best b/u QB. He can go up and down the field when he hasn’t been under the pressure of a whole game scheme.

  107. mrs. March 10, 2009 3:20 pm

Liz – i hadnt realized there were so many kauaianz on here…

  108. Da Punchbowl Kid March 10, 2009 3:25 pm

May Our Lord heal you quickly, dearest Brother Ted. I pray His touch upon you and healing power of the Holy Spirit with in you. Get well soon!

  109. Kazz March 10, 2009 3:32 pm

The Rainbow Wahine basketball team has always showed the potential to win all season long. The coaching wasn’t there for 75% of the season.

I believe the Wahine have a better chance of advancing further into the WAC tournament than the men.

Lesson I learned this 2008-2009 sports season is that losses are not as disappointing as empty-hearted performances. One must plan to win tomorrow for a tomorrow can be “today”, but deep personal victories are won in the efforts played in the present.

Some people say that a blowout loss is better than a close one. I used to believe that. Blowout losses should happen with less frequency if the heart is in it. Yes talent level is a factor, but our men and women basketball teams are BETTER than the records they have.

  110. roysan16 March 10, 2009 3:36 pm

    To FloridaTed and family,

Praying that the Heavenly Angels are in your corner…repealing the bad-and bringing forth and restoring the good. So that the following coming days are a lot better for you, FloridaTed.

As others have expressed, I am also very sadden. And pray for a complete recovery. And look forward to hearing good news.

Florida Ted, take care man we need to see at the Vegas game in September. Our prayers will be with you and your family. Get well soon.

    Good afternoon Tsaikos….whew…long day…taking a break, finally….

    Prayers for Florida Ted….Godspeed….

Inoke at Slot/RB is a good fit…and it does open up the possibility for the short “half-back” pass which may cause the opposing D to not be as agressive on their rush….keep them honest you know…

    Interesting…a tight-end again….hmmmmmm

Kealoha is being considered for punt return duty too??? I know he did some of that last year particularly against Idaho…but doesn’t that open him up to increasing chance of getting injured?? I trust the coaches so I don’t question their thought process….just wondering that’s all…

  114. LizKauai [Believer] March 10, 2009 3:45 pm

A tight end AND the Bulldog/Wildcat… I’m going to have to get over to Mrs. Coach Heather’s clinic…

  115. Committed Road Warrior March 10, 2009 3:46 pm

This article from the Las Vegas-Sun alludes to the possibly that the WAC may move the 2011 Basketball Tournament to Vegas, possibly the Orleans Arena:

    http://www.lasvegassun.com/blogs/now-and-then/2009/mar/10/wac-eyes-orleans-2011/

Benson was at the Orleans Arena on a fact-finding mission Monday night. The facts check out. After watching the ‘Zags destroy Saint Mary’s in the West Coast Conference championship game in front a capacity crowd, Benson is convinced — more than ever — that the Orleans also would make a great home for the WAC postseason hoop shindig beginning in 2011.

He said the WAC coaches and athletic directors have been down with the idea for a couple of years, when he and then-Orleans Arena director Steve Stallworth first discussed the possibility.

But when he took it to his board of directors — the school presidents — a couple refused to sign off.

When Benson ran the idea up the flagpole again, after the fellow mid-major WCC beat the WAC to town, there was less opposition.

If the WAC board ratifies an agreement to move its volleyball tournament here in the fall, then it’s all but a certainty the basketball tournaments would move here the next year.

Personally, I don’t like the idea of the WAC getting sloppy seconds and using the arena the day after the WCC wraps up their conference tourney. If moving the WAC Tourney to Vegas is indeed in the cards, how about using the MGM? The MGM arena capacity wise for basketball (13,000 + change) is larger than the Orleans (7,500) but smaller than the Thomas & Mack Center (18,000+), which already hosts the Mountain West Tournament.

  119. Committed Road Warrior March 10, 2009 4:04 pm

Is the play-in game gonna be televised on K5 back on the island? If not, you can pony up some $$$ and watch it via the WAC website:

I’d prefer to listen to it on radio this time.

  122. Stephen Tsai March 10, 2009 4:32 pm

Posted an update on Florida Ted.

  123. Stephen Tsai March 10, 2009 4:35 pm

Florida Ted was our second-ever contest winner.
He won a Colt-autographed football. In what became a pattern, it took me more than a month to send the darn thing. But it made it.

  124. Mad Dog March 10, 2009 4:38 pm

Florida Ted: Take care and get back on your feet soon. I look forward to reading your comments on the WB, especially during the football season.

  125. Stephen Tsai March 10, 2009 4:40 pm

And the biggest news of the Mack chat:
The wives of Nick Rolovich, Craig Stutzmann and Dave Aranda are all expecting.

ST– FloridaTed was the inspiration for the guy holding that football in the second row behind Garret and las vegas in the Tsai-ko group caricature. None of us knew what Ted looked like back then, so Louise kinda used me as the model….but, it was Ted’s spot!

    James,

A WAC team is in the lead.

  151. Pauoa Boy March 10, 2009 6:08 pm

From what Coach Mack said earlier it sounds like Greg Alexander is a lock at starting QB. I hope Greg has taken this seriously and will lead us to a successful football season. He also stated that Greg Salas has been busting his arse for the upcoming season…which I’m hoping has carried over to his fellow receivers. I hope Greg can put it all together cause he has shown flashes of greatness but is still somewhat inconsistent. Same goes for Malcolm Lane, it’s now or never!

I would like to know what is up with Leon Wright-Jackson though? Will this guy be a breakthrough this year or continue to be a bust? With the stable of running backs in the barn it seems LWJ might be lost in the mix.

Inoke Funaki as well as Kealoha Pilares are two guys who need to be on the field. I’m interested to see their roles this year in the offense as both can play pretty much anywhere and are definite playmakers!

  152. (Jesse)James March 10, 2009 6:13 pm

    Kazz…wait, we’re in the WAC….

  153. Pauoa Boy March 10, 2009 6:13 pm

Tua Mahaley could indeed be a weapon in the redzone with his height and tuffness as a TE/slot/blocker…

Anyway, I’m curious to see how the depth chart pans out when the season kicks off…

I hope Blaze, Paipai and the rest of our wounded Warriors recover quickly. This year could be very exciting for some unknowns to breakout, can’t wait.

  154. Pauoa Boy March 10, 2009 6:16 pm

Anyone know the status and situation with JoPierre Davis? I’m pretty sure he would’ve been a lock alongside JB?

  163. Kazz March 10, 2009 6:40 pm

I see it as Stretch saving Al about two hours of his life.

  165. kailuacoach March 10, 2009 6:48 pm

Sorry but Bob Nash owns this loss and the season. The offense all season was horrible against the zone. Nash had no answer for that. It was sooo simple to defend that offense. The offense was soo predictable – pass right – pass left – pass right – player cuts across baseline pass into high post. Same thing every time. They had NO answers – no cuts – no overloads – no picks inside – nothing – no offense!!! I feel bad for him but he needs to go! This team has some talent. Even in this last Fresno game – no time outs called by Nash in the stretch. Not even a timeout – down one point with 12 seconds to play. Why should we wait another season???

  166. warriorfanny March 10, 2009 6:48 pm

I watched the interview with MAC–thanx to ST and the Princess who did another great job of asking popular follow-up questions.

Next year will be a challenge and many of us sense that because MAC is clearly reloading.

Still, MAC is gaining experience as a head coach.
He is headed in the right direction to improve…just know it will take time…go warriors!

  167. Ralph March 10, 2009 6:51 pm

13-17 for the season…2 consecutive losing seasons…recruiting season is on going…one season left on contract (next year)- what does JD do? Nash’s status impacts this years recruit class, would a HS recruit come if the coach contract is up in the air or is he coming because Hawaii offers something he wants regardless of who his coach will be in 2 years…

  168. Ralph March 10, 2009 6:54 pm

I don’t know how many times the mbb faded in the last 5 minutes but they fell under pressure and indecision…how much of this indecision can be attributed to coaching- like not calling time out to get the team on track or make some type of adjustments to win the game….

  169. Kazz March 10, 2009 7:06 pm

Bob Nash will be back next year regardless. However anything beyond that remains to be seen.

Jim Donovan will have to make this decision. More losses = less fans = shrinking revenue. Under a different economic climate Bob Nash would probably be given more time, but he knows that time is money and money is something the athletic deparment can’t afford to lose much of.

    Just my assumption.

  170. bstunna2002 March 10, 2009 7:06 pm

What was whispered ST who’s transferring here? Tell my fellow MHS alumnus Kortney Bryson says hello see if she remembers me.

  171. Manoa Mist March 10, 2009 7:13 pm

    Get well soon Florida Ted!

  172. Ralph March 10, 2009 7:23 pm

UH led by 5 with a minute and a half to play, they tallied but one point the rest of the game but Fresno was able to score 9 to win by 5…poor decisions- 3 20 second possession would have iced the game, even more so if they scored in any of the possessions and kept the defensive pressure on FSU

  173. Ralph March 10, 2009 7:30 pm

Leahy and Eldredge mentioned on the bb telecast on Sunday that with several losing games (mbb, mvb, baseball, and softball) in these tough economic times, only winning will bring out the fans to the games to spend their discretionary dollars.

  174. kailuacoach March 10, 2009 7:31 pm

Exactly Ralph poor decisions ala poor coaching. Kazz I agree Nash will not get the boot yet – especially since he has been with the program for a million years. He might even get two more years. And I think you need to extend the contract otherwise recruiting dies.

  175. Momo March 10, 2009 7:45 pm

This is the second time the duo of our team have a stupid turn over which lead to a three point play. One time is excusable, but when it happens again when no one is forcing the action******read what you want into those stars. I am a season ticket holder for many years and I must say that this team suck.

Speedie recovery F Ted…Our thoughts are with your ohana

    Florida Ted,

Always enjoy your commentary and analysis. You’ve always been one of the strongest supporters of Warrior football.

I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Good luck to you and Patti.

    FloridaTed-

Please get well soon!!! I am looking forward to the day I get to meet you. Really enjoy your posts.

kailua coach ~ It’s amazing how the MBB team cannot seem to even play a decent half court game! Your assessment is the same as mine.

I watched in awe of how many turnovers they made in a very short span of time. How many free throws they blew, and how sleepy looking the offense was that you described.

These are coachable miscues. Working players hard on perfecting these basic skills is what it takes.

I hate getting into a coaches area of responsibility, and it’s not often that I dig into their chit…ala e-bolla, but sheesh this is pure bs. How can I have a good Tsaiko laff, when I’m too busy whining about my team!

You peeps know me, I usually leave the pontificating to the big guy from Hilo. This team really got me to shift my focus over from one failing coach to another after seeing them in action.

Will the real Coach Nash please step up! I know you got all the x’s and o’s any coach needs down pat. Now we need you to implant that knowledge into your charges and train them to execute with the perfection they need to compete at the D-1 level.

Florida Ted ~ I’m getting ready to call it a nite, but before I do…I just want to say that we are all eager to see you get your health back in check.

  214. wafan March 11, 2009 3:33 am

Ugh. More meetings today. The Every Child Left Behind has now succeeded in reducing the seat time for the kids.

  215. Kekoa (iPhone) March 11, 2009 4:09 am

Wafan ~ For every child that is still behind. How many really do earn a promotion eventually, and at what cost? How many are granted a promo and passed on just to keep the kid moving.

  216. Kekoa (iPhone) March 11, 2009 4:39 am

    BHF2 ~ C’mon paly get up and PI$$, the world’s on fire!

We got plenny elequeshun issues to dispose of today. We are overdue on your weekly pontificational predictions such as what ST posted above.

For example, kinda hard to imagine Inoki as one bulldogwhen you see him ride one lame
    looking bicycle!

  217. KapoleiWarrior March 11, 2009 5:09 am

I’ll answer your question Kekoa…..a lot. I teach out here on the Westside and I can tell you that we are actually encouraged by our administration to keep the kids moving. It takes an extraordinary amount of work and perseverance by the teacher in order to retain a child that is not measuring up.

It’s absolutely disgusting to see the Rainbow Warriors blow another game. Just as well. Put them out of their misery and have our fans not suffer anymore. Like I said, this season was a disaster because this team should have been on the plus side of the ledger for sure. The did not achieve their potential. Of course, the outside shooting was dreadful and the turnovers showed how bad this team is. I put a lot of the blame on the coaches because they were overcoached and second they were the ones that recruited these playes and a lot of them did not pan out. The only real good player is Flemings. Take him out of the equation and UH would have probably lost all of their games. The rest of the guys can’t go one on one with anyone and get their own shot off. BYUH can beat UH for sure. Like I said, I watch all the games on TV because I like to see Hawaii win, but I won’t go to the games because I know I’m going to be disappointed. Why drive home 20 miles being disgusted and the pain. The last time I went to a game was when Savo, English, etc. were playing. Unfortunately, until you get another exciting team like the NCAA team or the 71-72 teams, or when Carter and Smith were playing then you will not get the kind of crowd that can help a team get a big advantage. Here’s some luck in getting some decent players who can handle the ball and shoot. I really think we are going through UH cleansing after what HF did the last couple of years and it will take a couple of years.

He is able to move his arm & leg, and can speak a little. They are conducting a series of test of him and hopefully we will know by the end of the week what kind of damage has been done.
