Manhattan Beach project
The Warriors have set up base in Manhattan Beach in preparation for tomorrow’s season-opener against top-ranked USC.
The Warriors had a late-morning wake-up call today. The walk-through is this afternoon at a nearby high school.
* * * * *
Two scouts, including one from the New England Patriots, are expected to meet with UH coaches today. Long-snapper Luke Ingram’s older brother, former Warrior long-snapper Jake Ingram, was drafted by the Patriots in the sixth round in 2009. Luke Ingram also is considered to be a pro prospect.

I’m tOo eXcitEd tO tYPe bEtTaH!
Okay, I’ve composed mysel…I think
A big shout out to Mrs Edwards!
I think it’s Saturday in Japan.
Or is it Thursday?
I can’t figure out the International Dateline.
Bobby Curran and John Veneri have arrived.
And we’re all in the lobby because the occupants haven’t checked out.
Occupy Manhattan Beach? Doesn’t quite roll off the tongue.
This place is gorgeous.
The lobby is overlooking a golf course.
Have no idea where the beach is. But Manhattan land is pretty nice.
What no room yet? You could practice Co-Ed song then, maybe people will vacate faster!
Any photos? Snap away for your peeps please!
Good Game Eve!
Looks like the “maintenance” worked!
Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
Looks like the “maintenance” worked!
Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
Or maybe not.
High maintenance.
Not used to hearing this much about UH football on ESPN 1420 in the MORNINGS.
Scott Robbs should be the go-to guy 100% of the time!
Hi Wafan! Good Friday Morning!
ST
What hotel in Manhattan Beach are you and the team staying at?
There’s a large shopping mall located at Sepulveda and Rosencrans for your convenience.
Morning everyone.
Any news on our nfl warriors? today is cut day….
Talofa WARRIOR Clan, welcome to Cali. Besides the tailgate gathering at Exposition Park. Where is the rest of WARRIOR Clan tailgating at. Is there a specific parking lot location where the sea of green is gathering at. Fa’afetai lava.
#17 yea same same here
title for today’s blog reminds me of the “nuclear” bomb creation/testing done secretly by the US with the help, plenty, from Warner Von Braun and his colleges who decide to defect to the “West” rather than go to Russia toward the end of WWII.
lusck for us!!!!!!
ST #25:
look at your watch and think “one-day ahead, but 4 hours back”
Compliments on the brilliant title today, Mr. Tsai.
(I live near Los Alamos, NM, so . . .)
Go Warriors/Gladiators!
Go Warriors!
Beat USC!
I love Manhattan & Hermosa Beach…
Color me as being more optimistic than Bobby Curran. The other day, he likened USC vs. Hawaii to having a Surface-to-Air missile versus a “pea-shooter”. No matter the low expectations of some, a number of us believe strongly that the team will indeed Shock Da World! Can’t wait. Go Warriors!
@ 41 A-House, I was thinking the title was more like The Manhattan Experiment. I think that’s the one about a top secret experiement gone awry with dematerialization and funky re-materialization…
Aloha Tsaikos,
Woke up this morning in Hermosa Beach. Town is already filling up for their yearly festival plus incoming for the USC game. I hope to be able to get to the practice today, if it is open.
General parking near the game site runs upwards of $80-100 PolyMom tells me.
Weather is clear and warm.
Projected temp for game time is around 80 degrees. UH ticket sections (Sec 1&2) will be looking into the sun and then into the obscure haze called a sunset here in LA for the first hour to hour and a half of the game.
Hope to see ST, Bobby, and Veneri at the reception this evening. We will have pics hopefully posted afterwards.
OK, I found the beach.
Or, as Keith Amemiya and Norm Chow said: “Turn around.”
Hmm. Never too early to name drop. Hey, we’re in L.A., baby!!!
I found the Big Chair in the lobby.
Free WiFi and the Big Chair. I’m good for a couple of hours.
Morning, gang!
Happy Season Opener Eve Aloha Friday!
Keep hydrated.
Warriors, are you ready?
Always Ready!!!
Shock Da World, Baby!!!
@35 Kevin,
Thanks for the Heads up on 1420… I’m also really liking these guys… Kekaula is coming up…
Go Warriors.
ST – a shout out to you and a thank you for your great articles/posts. Being a few thousand miles away from my kid going through camps and training has been very difficult for me. Your articles and the people of Hawaii has helped me get through it. Thanks so much to all of you.
48 Parking. I think those high parking prices are for non-campus parking. Given that the game is sold out, to get campus parking will probably mean being there super early as in in the morning, but it is worth it for the $25 rate. It seems like the residents who full on tailgate get there even earlier because they have super fancy setups, but if you are going to the arranged tailgates, being in one of the structures is probably acceptable. There is stuff to do nearby (as well as food on and nearby campus in case you are hungry before the tailgates start).
I will post a parking link separately.
@51. WW, I’m ready!
Parking link. I apologize in advance if this is not okay to post. It is from the university….

#53, Good Luck to Ben tomorrow night!
#51. thank you, he is ready but doubt he will sleep tonight. He could not have picked a better school to go to battle with tomorrow. His teammates are incredible.

Tom Clarke:
Thank you for joining us on the Warrior Beat/Tsaikos on the day before, at least in Hawaii, the first game for Big Ben and his teammates.
We are sure that he will represent the Warrior football team, UH, Hawaii, and you and your faimly well.
It must be very exciting for him to be playing the #1 college football in the USA as a “freshman”.
A-House: I have been lurking for a year now and thought today was a good time to join.
You have made the Warrior team, UH, and Hawaii feel like part of my family so thank you.
Exciting? Could not have dreamed of anything more exciting a year ago.
Go Colorado….
I mean, go Ben 😀

Mr. Clarke, please let all the boys know the whole state is behind em’….give em’ hell!!
Shock em Warriors.
Ben is one of my favorite players.
Clarke is very mature for a grayshirt freshman.
He looked older, though, before he shaved and cut his hair.
#66 – got it.
#67 – there are a lot of “favorites” on that team. Ben is a very special person – hopefully many of you will get to know him. I am a better person because of him. Also, his hair is almost as short as mine now.
Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂
Weeeeee-hawwwww! The only thing better than the day-before-game-day is the day- before-game-day on the Warrior Beat!
Great to see erry body here, ‘specially our Cali/Mainland ‘Ohana.
A special Aloha to Tom Clarke, look forward to many more days like this with you on board. Thanks for sendin’ your big guy this way!
Keep the updates coming, Stephen! You and the big feller were great on the telly last night. Nearly died seeing RK in long pants! Braddah looked sharp! 😉
At the Stadium Authority meeting yesterday John McNamara made the monthly UH Athletics Department’s presentation. He announced that the Warriors will be wearing red, white & blue uniforms for the UNLV Military Night game on November 24.
He also detailed the various ways the UH-Manoa Administration is addressing the student attendance issues. There are over a dozen different Manoa groups and entities plus the coaching staff that are meeting on a regular basis to see how to improve the situation. BTW – it’s all sports, not just football.
Another topic raised yesterday but not on the agenda so it has been deferred until next month is the future of the Stadium’s capital improvements projects over the next several years. ACT 282 – 2012 establishes the Stadium Special Fund to be jointly administered by the Public Land Development Corporation and the Stadium Authority.
However, the mounting attacks on the PLDC calling for a repeal of ACT 55 – 2011 establishing the PLDC itself will have a major negative impact on the future of Aloha Stadium.
This is a critically important issue which I’ll be tracking closely over the next few months.
Love the show – RK did a super job!
Watching RK’s interview with Coach Chow was awesome. Da man don’t need pre-game pep talks – he oozes confidence, inspiration and motivation.
My fave quote from da Coach – him telling the boys “I can’t wait to see you guys play.” Coming from him, that means a lot. Couldn’t agree more!
GO WARRIORS!!!
SHOCK THE WORLD!!!
Nice highlight vid for Alex. Way to go!
Aloha Kakahiaka Tsiakos! Don’t you just love that feeling of anticipation…
A Big Morning Aloha to all our Loyal Lurkers.
To all our newcomers and first time bloggers: Welcome to the Tsaiko ‘Ohana. Mahalo for taking that step over the threshold to post.
Mahalo for the info, Doc. Continue to keep us informed…
Great Morning All!
IS IT SATURDAY YET?
Tsaikos…Are You Ready?!?!
Welcome to the Warrior Ohana, Tom Clarke! 🙂
#47 mo808 – I think you mean the Philadelphia Experiment. They have made a few movies about this, not many believed that it really happened.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philadelphia_Experiment
# 71 – Now see that is where they lack the thinking, rather than announce the wearing of the red, white and blue they should have just said that they will be wearing a special uni for that game only, leave a little suspense to get more fans in the seats. Just MHO
Such a well-balanced show on ESPN 1420am this morning. Over an hour dedicated to UH football, Crusaders head coach, and then coaches Nagamine and Shoji on.
This is a good format.
Kekaula wore long pants and shoes.
KF- Mahalo for the links!
Protector- Way to totally be, “OPTIMIST PRIMED!” Awesome!!!
We feel lucky! Luck is being prepared to do well! I know Coach Chow has prepared our young men for a battle. Time to strap it up and go to war, Warriors!!
Good change to the usual 1420am morning show.
Scott Robbs and Steve Murray doing a GREAT job!
Interesting article in today’s paper. UH coaches signing a letter endorsing the appointment of Rockne Freitas as the permanent UH AD.
Not sure what to think of the anonymous coach that said they signed it because everyone else did though.
The Board of Regents will be meeting (again) at Windward Community College on Wednesday, September 5, starting at 9 am. Many of the items on the agenda have been carried over from the August 22 meeting which were not taken up because of the Executive Session dealing with the Wonder concert/Jim Donovan matters which lasted well over seven hours.
Click http://www.hawaii.edu/offices/bor/regular/notice/20120905.regular.pdf for the upcoming meeting’s agenda.
The Warriors just went for a team walk.
Yep, the entire team, led by Chow, took a late-morning walk to get fresh air.
#80 –
And braddah rocked it! 🙂
I think people putting their head down on their class desk and raising their hands would have been been a better method.
Fresh air in Los Angeles.
Ok.
Kekaula did most of the editing, too.
He was a busy guy.
By the way, that Oceanic studio is amazing.
I think we’d all like a photo of that.
Manhattan Beach.
We need to bring back hoss elections.
Hoss Elections?
I was in yearbook my senior year and the photography class ran Hoss Elections.
¾ of the winners were in the photography class.
Mos likely fo suck seed:
#46 Amen,
ST:
You and Kekaula looked good on the tele last night! Yep, long pants and shoes too!
Wearing all black seemed so intimidating for you!
Nicest Smile.
WTH…
Would be funny if the UHAD had Hoss Elections.
Would be more entertaining if fans made their own for the coaches.
That’s right Pomai! Thanks!
what is a “hoss elections”? u know us outta island boys many times no unda stand da “city slicka” lingo.
eye get to vote for a “hoss”; dummy, not dat, but horse. and eye tot it was Pondarosa days again.
Just got a call from a traveling Tsaiko (not a Wilbury)
He is looking to place a moneyline bet at or near the number I picked up from Garret’s comment (+29250)
So far, no luck…too pricey for the houses he checked.
(informational to this point)
Can help? (in as general a sense as imaginable)
Sounds like a contest.
Do high schools have yearbooks still?
Or are they downloadable on your iPad and iPhone?
iRememberYearbooks.
Welcome to the blog Tom Clarke! We’re excited for you and Ben! Glad you are onboard!
Tommorrow our undefeated Warriors take on the #1 undefeated Trojans …
🙂 It’s like playing for the National Championship.
Of course if the Warriors win, the media will dis USC and they will plummet in the ranking while UH might not even break into the top 50.
A-House,
Just a popularity contest. Most Athletic, Most Popular, Best Dressed, etc…
CWD, thanks for the updates!
No REAL National Championship in any level of competition is decided by what happens in the first game of the season… for any sport.
Well, SteveM does need something to do between now and Oct. 2! 😆
domo arigato, Kevin!
now, what Tsaiko would win the most handsome Tsaiko “hoss election”? Big Hilo Fan 2? Rich 2173? al? DPK? d1? A-Joe? MP? Warrior Dave? ho, get so much handsome ones.
This is probably the most anticipated game I can remember. I am more excited about this one than I was when JJ was in this same position.
I am not sure I even need coffee today! And it isn’t even the day of…
ST and Warriors, welcome to Tinseltown! Will look for you guys around Manhattan Beach! Beat ‘SC!
Welcome to South Bay Warrior Fans! Lots to do in Hermosa Beach tonight. Fiesta Hermosa starts tomorrow and runs thru Monday. A do not miss fun event. All house guests having a great time.
La Playida in Hermosa Beach has excellent food. You got lots of places to eat on the Pier. If you need to eat after the game, the Kettle in Manhattan Beach is a great coffee shop. Lots of parking available.
Have a safe weekend.
Go Warriors!
Upset USC!!!
Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach will be happening all weekend, just start near the piers and you’ll find lots to do!
Kevin,
While true, our boys should still play like they are playing for the National Championship. It’s not often that they get to play the #1 team in the nation.
Ipu Man……sorry I cud not respond earlier; no worries bout the earlier conflict…we all one Tsaiko family and sometimes we don’t see eye to eye just like in any family. Peace and Happiness brother.
According to ESPN USC (kefe) banned walk throughs at the collisium(sic).
A-House, “hoss election” is the other version of the “Slam Book”. Shows you how old I am.
Norm Chow has been a big backer of Rockne for awhile now for obvious reasons.
Norm has made his feelings known as have a few other coaches who are leaders and well respected among the coaches.
Great post. I was checking continuously this blog and I’m inspired! Extremely useful information specially the closing phase 🙂 I deal with such information a lot. I was seeking this certain information for a long time. Thanks and best of luck.
Upset tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mahalo Tom Clarke for becoming a part of the Warrior Beat Tsai-ko Nation. Think of us as his adopted Uncles & Aunties who care very much about his well-being during his stay here in Hawaii.
I hope that you will be able to travel here and join us at our Tsai-ko T-gate at least once. Then, head over to the stadium to enjoy watching Ben play the sport he obviously loves so much.
GO WARRIORS!
I just saw a list of NY Jets cuts for today, the first 15 of 22. I know that there will be a bunch of player movement movement between now and the opener, but as of now, Royce Pollard still get chance!!
Good morning Tsaikos!!!
Getting close now…. 🙂
Sorry, my post @ 124 is small-kine off topic as it relates to tomorrow’s showdown at the Coliseum…Wearing my UH polo and hoodie today in SF!! Go Warriors!
And…I gotta throw a shout out to the Radford Football team, who are in Oregon preparing to play Crescent Valley HS in Corvallis tonight at 4pm (HST) Ram Down!!
BayAreaWarrior, been following Pollard too, so good to know he’s still in the hunt. Thanks for the update!
PLease someone ex-lain to me why we have to suspend our punter who had a dui, and lane kiffen can reinstate his junior linebacker who just got a class c felony in the spring , and will be playing in this game…..kiffen reinstated him on thursday….with a felony…what the hell what are the rules on that ???
Anyone in SoCal going to the UHAA pre-tailgate event at Back in Lahaina in Carson tonight?
no but thats a great resturant!!
warfan 808 — unfortunately, the rules vary depending on the university. so does integrity…
ST- pictures pictures please!
Shock DA World Warriors!!
Warfan808,
What that is, is USC laying out their priorities for the world to see.
What that is, is the mainstream acceptance of what is more important when September rolls around in the world of sports.
There are not enough people to draw a line between what college sports is supposed to be and what big dollars gets you.
mctruck, no worry beef curry.
Hope is all well with you in Texas.
Good for RF. if coach wants, I 4’it too,
Wearing my colt brennan jersey in long beach tonight and all day tommorow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!GO WARRIORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Aloha from Utah…GO FO BROKE WARRIORS!!!
Warriors have to remember when they step foot on that field tomorrow that….
The Coliseum Field Is No Different Than Any Other Field It’s 120yds long x 53 1/2 feet wide
The opposing team will have the same amount of players on the field so it’s 11 vs 11
Last but certainly not least Play Hard,Play Smart and Bring home that “W”
Bring your hard hats and lunch pails cause it’s Time To Go To Work!!!!
ST,
I loved the piece you did on last nights TV show. Your voice-over added alot to what Robert edited together. Maybe there’s a future for you in animated films and commercials and TV????
GO WARRIORS!!!!!
Good morning everyone!
The blog is back up!
I hardly missed it, of course… 🙄
valima — Welcome to the blog! do you reside in Utah? If so, please share what city.
warfan 808 Welcome to the blog! do you reside outside of Hawaii? If so, what city?
I list Mainland/international Tsai-kos at:
http://home.roadrunner.com/~smurashi/tsai-kos/mainintpost.html
Any others? Please share your city/state outside Hawaii.
@Bryson
You mean 160′ wide right?
Does anyone have a link to the vid with ST and Kekaula?
Its like you learn my mind! You seem to understand so much about this, such as you wrote the e-book in it or something. I feel that you just can do with a few % to power the message house a bit, however other than that, that is magnificent blog. A fantastic read. I’ll certainly be back.
Kiffen said that no one could walk through their stadium prior to the gam. Really classy.
Game = Game
@Jimmy if your speaking in terms of feet yes 160ft but that equals to the 53 1/3yds….
@Jimmy I mistyped feet instead of yds….it’s was meant to be 53yds not feet….my bad
Born and raised in kailua,…..living in long beach CA, representing the Warriors with a few friends from the islands out here evry year!!!!
Good morning Tsaikos!!
Uno mas dia.
Still get heatwave? Dang, it was in the 90s when I was there at the beginning of the month. Was 109 at Magic Mountain on Screecher’s bday (8/6).
Yes, they still have yearbooks. And they still have hoss elections. MPI’s Senior Class Hoss Elections “Most Likely to Go Pro” award went to…
Joshua Donovan and Keiki Carlos!!
(On the other hand, my cousin was awarded “Most Likely to Get Caught Looking in a Mirror” 🙄 😆 )
Collin Cowherd takes Hawaii and the 42 points.
It’s a bet!
#129 WAFAN – I guess it depends on each Coach. Some have a high standards and others do not.
ST nice Warrior insert in todays paper. I hope Ferd is wrong.
Mouichido.
Tsaikos, ARE YOU READY?
HAI
spelling may be wrong but, one gai ishi mas.
Hey, I’m gonna be “out to sea’ (literally) half of September. But a “Hoss Election” is easy to set up… just use a free poll site like SurveyMonkey…
http://www.surveymonkey.com/
….decide the categories (question) andwhether you want multiple choice or fill in the blank.
OR — post on the blog and get blog replies. ST did start this Hoss Election talk… 🙂
– – – – – – – – – – – –
I’m busy plotting the next “Guess the Young Tsai-ko” Challenge. 👿
Please send me your high school, college, or mid-20’s photo ASAP at: stevem.hnl (at) gmail.com
…be prepared to submit proof if you are too good-looking… 🙂

Da Warriors need to knock Trojan Man off his high horse.
Weather prediction for tomorrow.
http://www.weather.com/weather/tomorrow/Los+Angeles+CA+USCA0638:1:US
Hello Tsaikos, Does anyone know if the game will be streamed somewhere online? I’ve got to work and would like to watch the game on my iPhone. Thank you in advance.
kawika49 #157:
jo suz( right on), jo suz! well written!
mih #159:
game is played onthe field – not written up by some sports writer who may have never played the sport.
say, did ST play football at Roosevelt?
Ipu Man,
My area in East Texas was spared from the storm this time……still get plenty more coming this year so, knock-on-wood as they say.
Beef curry!, make me hungry ladat….wit macoroni or potato salad……yummmm!
A-House…
After all that pro-USC writing, though.. the writer ultimately ends with USC by at least 20… not 40, or 50… so, the writer has some concerns.
A lot of eyes on this game. USC’s lack of depth/experience in key positions may also mean that both sides will be huffing and puffing in the middle of the 3rd Qtr.
Mrs A-House and I took the points and UH – but, never know and UH just might knock off #1.
“You can only fight the way you practice” miyamoto musashi.
No blame me i already took the points. They nevah give me chance for the other.
Nnnhooooo….
I starting to feel like Rap!
Tryin’ one mo time….(dis time wit da ansah!)
Tsaikos, Are you Ready?
Answer: Always ready!
Interesting day tomorrow and life finds a way to make you realize what is the bigger picture.
Over the summer, one of my high school friends left abruptly to care for his younger sister in Arizona. Long story short she passed away due to breast cancer at the age of 28. Her memorial is tomorrow morning. She leaves behind a caring family and a young son. Beautiful young woman who found a niche in the medical profession. Very intelligent as well.
There will over-reactions following tomorrow’s game whether it’s a loss or a win. In the end, we should all remember what matters when the game is over.
Ex-USC D-lineman suing school over painkiller injections
http://isportsweb.com/2012/08/30/usc-trojans-football-kicks-off-2012-season-vs-hawaii/
Wonder if this will make them more reluctant to inject pain killers?
Remember the USC – Notre Dame many years ago when USC was down something like 24 – 0 at the half and some fella name Tony ran for 6 TDs in the 2nd half and USC won?
get chance until the “fat lady sings”! I purchased a book of quips from Yogi Berra – title was If You See a Fork in the Road Take It.
Oh yea, Tony Davis? We had a UH BB player in our dorm with the same name – all 6′ 11″ and maybe 220 #s ( after a large meal ). this was in 1960. UH beat then #3 Oregon in Klum Gym. Also with us was this Brit named Colin who use to balance peas on his knife and eat them. Also, a guy name Gordon Joyce who filled his plate, and I mean filled his plate, and he would eat a section at a time, never mixing the food – all the rice, then all the veggies, then all the meat, etc.
After dinner, we would go outside to the hedge lining our walkway to the front entrance and catch flies for my roomie’s redubidoos (sp) – fly had to be alive as this was his meal – rommie was doing a life cycle experiment for his Enthomology class.
Then there was summer school when our dorm was split in half – makai side for guys and mauka side for wahine – certain wahine would purposely leave the window shade open and lights on when they undressed – some would even do a light pose for us!
We certainly enjoyed ourselves at the dorm – even met Pres Obama’s mom back then as Barrack Obama, Sr was in the dorm with us.
Good times! Great Times!
Always ready!!!
Kevin, that is so tragic–
Go Warriors!
An afta you get one,
Ichido ne!!!!

We are planning to get tickets at the game, unless someone has a couple of extras in case there was a late drop out. My cell: 602-317-2005, if you have extras. My cousin is a USC alum so let’s shock the world !!

J(J) – it was she who said put the money down – just use mine; not hers!!
Look for guys outside of the Colosseum. Bring cash, and plenty of it.
A-House,
Good bet. UH will cover.
Got tickets left. Email Don Weir if you need tickets.

Also, no forget in all our excitement for tomorrows game, Na Wahine VB takes on San Francisco and the Na Wahine Soccer takes on Drexel tonight!
GO WAHINE
GO WARRIORS
GO HAWAII!
There may be a growing number of “Volunteers” who’d be willing to drive Derek Dooley back to Louisiana. 🙄
Anyone got justin tv link?
And good luck to the Wahine Harriers too!!!
Run like the wind!!!

Yep, Southwick is no Kellen Moore.
A loss today could take the air out of Boise’s tires and could have a detrimental effect on their performance in the first half of the season.
Jeremy Ioane pik 6 for the tie!
I’m sure they will drop out of the top 25 if they lose. If.
mih, GBU, much, much, much, much bettah.

Uhhh…all the way from #24? Yu shua???
😆

Penalties might kill Michigan… so far 20 yards against Boise and 50 against Michigan…
Last penalty might kill Boise.
http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/08/31/kiffin-tells-opponents-to-get-off-my-lawn/
What a pass and catch!
DEFENSE!
Thought Boise was going to fake the FG… guess they’re not as confident this year.
GOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLLLLLL! oops, wrong sport
What a commercial!
Newcastle!
heheheh
Was going to save this for a halftime show. Kent State-Towson game yesterday.
http://aol.sportingnews.com/ncaa-football/story/2012-08-31/kent-state-player-runs-wrong-way-jim-marshall-wrong-way-riegels-andre-parker
Kiffin needs to get a priority check-up.
I don’t get commercials, just trivia questions. bah
mih,
Only 1st half, wait and see.
B$-You was getting the snot kicked outta dem in the first quarter but now they got the lead. Chris Peterson learning ’em how yet….
…and they tackled him!
😆
Jimmy,
Considering the way college football is run in the “big time”, Kiffin is doing his job correctly, by those standards at least.
Lots of money to be made and lots of money that continues to be made.
I like to read how Marion Higa and gang slams the auditee.
Nice pick by Boise!
Michigan blew that one.. should have been able to tie the game…
The coaches back Freitas as AD, wot dat meen? no need search and interview? no State law being broken? aisoos kalamungai bayut
@Kevin
I hear ya. Some people use their backbone, others slither.
…and quietly, we losing million$ on rail…see what happens when the ducks no like line up straight.
Facts:
-They placed 3 coaches on the selection committee for a new AD.
-Like all state positions, they need to post the job publicly and according to the article UH hasn’t posted for the job yet.
-Three of them signed a letter of “endorsement” for a person that publicly stated he will not apply for the position.
We all played with Legos as kids. Some are easy to put together.
(time to stop commenting on this before my Freedom of Speech is questioned outside certain parameters)
Jimmy,
RE: Kiffin and other BCS slimebag money-makers
Its like asking rich filthy ****** of **it how do they sleep at night?
And they reply “on piles of money with many naked women”
To which we remain silent in response to their response. 😎
I had lincoln logs. hand me downs. missing logs. could never build a cabin.
The thing about Kiffin’s actions is that for every fan that takes issue with what he did and how wrong it is and how it just feeds the lack of accountability, there are about 20-30 more football fans that see no problem with it and just continue to be enamored with everything in BCS programs like mindless children that can’t wait for their next sugar fix.
Kiffin is the target today, but again BCS programs are out of control and while the NCAA can put the fear of God into smaller programs at BCS schools and on a wider-scale, put the hammer down on smaller colleges outside the BCS bubble, they truly have 0 control over something that has become more powerful than they imagined.
Howzit Tsaikos.
Howzit Warriors!
Shock the. world!
Ok Ok but who going refereee.
USC grads will referee…
#241 thank you just wanted to know, if it was wac, sac, hac or snafu.
It’s impressive that you are getting thoughts from this article as well as from our dialogue made here.
missied the comma after the you
You know, I brought up the question about Kefe Kifen not allowing a walk through. That Kefe no more class.
kawika49, I won’t tell your English teacher…
btw, you know I am joshing you about who will be the refs, don’t you?
“I have to tell you , we’re not in awe of the task that is ahead of us.”
Well I couldn’t make da trip, so will be, sob sob, with friends at Cronies.
#246 As, a learned person; whom may they, be.?
BHF2 forget the whatever, who the refereees.
If I were an attorney, I would appreciate to know; who’s, judging.
The refs tomorrow prolly gonna be PAC 12.
All you need to know is, “cheaters.”not obvious kine, but the sneaky kine.”. The no calls….
I sent d1shima an email with some help for papajoe once I got home from work. It is interesting that the line was at +32500 and then dropped suddenly to +24995, then is now back up to +32500. I think that means that someone bet the money line on UH–if betting $100 could get you $32,500…that is better odds than the lottery when you consider how many opening day upsets there always are.
Turnovers can change a game completely. Hopefully tomorrow UH gets the bounces…I’ve seen way too many times how an opponent can fumble a ball and have it bounce right back to them, letting them gain more yards instead of having UH get the ball.
Watching OC 16 fo da umpteenth time,
Coach Chow and Kekaula, ST, and the Wahine VB, beating Stanford,
Yes I am. JAcCT UP!!!!!!!
So is AD function going to elevated to V P level at UH? Seems like only at the VP level does good things happen quicker for athletics.
It is crazy to see how so many schools are making $30+ mil profits on their football programs. Texas had a *losing* season in 2010 and yet made a profit of more than $71 mil! According to this, spent $8.9 mil on football and brought in $7.7 mil…that sounds like a loss of $1.2 mil, but it doesn’t count revenue like PPV that makes football quite profitable.
There are a lot of Big 10, SEC, Big 12, ACC, and Pac-12 (after their new TV money kicks in) that will be making profits with their Athletic Department. When a MWC school gets $1.4 mil from TV and a Big 10 team gets $30 mil, we see why some schools can make a profit and others like UH have to rely on $8+ mil each year from Upper Campus to keep going.

I love this break down of the Kent State fumble recovery…
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-saturday/anatomy-andre-parker-now-infamous-wrong-way-fumble-160235048–ncaaf.html
It is sad to see how Kiffin would let someone with a felony conviction play without a multigame suspension. It is kind of like Todd Graham telling his players they have to be committed after he bailed on Tulsa and Pitt once a higher-paying job came along.
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-saturday/todd-graham-lectures-players-value-commitment-220841797–ncaaf.html
speaking of criminals, maybe allen pinkett can get a coaching job at usc
#253 all I want is a pwerson the is competant.
OOOOOps 254
Garret,
Sarvicar on SportsHawaii stated..
That means that UH is actually profiting from Athletics.. albeit indirectly. If that is indeed the case, maybe they really should forgive the 10 million deficit.
All i klnow i took the points, no other options.
Warriors that I thought were in danger of the “Turk”, are on the initial 53 man roster. Congrats to Greg Salas, Mana Silva and Ryan Mouton. The other more secured guys made it, some bad news with Royce, Vaughn, Corey & McBriar getting cut. But for the rookies maybe the practice squad?
Go Warriors!
Looks like Michigan just has to look out for a blocked field goal to win this one…
Hope Royce, Vaughn, Corey & McBriar get picked up. If not, next year they
can try CFL. Royce should be good up there, I would think.
Oh well, B$-You prolly not going hold up their end of a clash of unbeatens in November. 😈
….MSU rang their “Bell”
Michigan State probably won’t have kick after all…
I wouldn’t be completely accurate to cite the departure of Coach Mack and the hiring of Coach Chow as to why UH athletic fundraising has increased.
For football (Na Koa)? Perhaps? I cannot say, I believe from what I saw, the donations to Na Koa increased significantly over the last two years. So again, if the departure of Greg McMackin and the hiring of Coach Chow could be attributed to that.
However, the figures for donations via booster clubs to programs like Rainbow Wahine Soccer, Softball, and Water Polo experienced good increases over the past few seasons. I believe men’s swimming also had a good year as well when it came to donations to their booster account.
boise goes down.
Chris Peterson did it right but probably suspending 4 players idn’t cost B$-You this game. Brady Hoke, though, might really have cost Michigan a lot by suspending two of his.
Would that be “Lame”? We shall see….
Also,
I wouldn’t count donations as “profits” for the athletic department.
Each program has extra needs from football to sailing and all in between, the donors are donating to SUPPLEMENT what is there.
The positive is that the monetary interest for the 20 programs at UH Manoa is there. Good-hearted people and businesses that want to help.
looking forward to tomw’s game indeed.
i am pretty sure the warriorsr are being over looked by;
the oddsmakers
the trojans
the city of los angeles
the whole of california
the bcs football world
we’re in a perfect spot to be
david vs goliath
those 6 1/2 td’s sure seem like a nice number to grab
shock da world
yup, even against insurmountable odds
the game needs to played.
make us proud is all i ask.
yeah buddy…kevin thanks to the likes of you, pomai, ralphie, slugger and others who have made a huge impact with the wahine softball program it has become much more visible.
surely the successes on the field paved the way but what you guys do collectively as a booster group should not go unnoticed. i have often wondered why the athletic department have not come out publicly to acknowledge the efforts from that booster club.
keep it up and on behalf the little guys like me…one big MAHALO!
garret…are you part of the hawaii hopeful at tomw’s game?
Take the points.
iwwthm…thats what i said.
well said.
Play the game, Warriors!
Stanford barely squeaked by San Jose state.
Nytal!
Party great tonight. Long time no see Jerry Scanlan.
USC not letting a walk through is a psychological ploy. But they don’t own the stadium. Will post Mayor Villalagosa phone number and email and call him, write him and complain. Hell my tax dollars pay for the Coliseum. Like UH rents Aloha Stadium…the deal is not done with USC taking it over the Coliseum permanently.
Of course USC let’s a felon play!!! I bet 25 percent of the team has had trouble with the law. They don’t care about morals and values. They care about winning and winning big!
Say a little prayer that no player or fans are hurt. Hope the boys get a good nights rest and when they dress for battle…our Warriors will take down the Men of Troy!
Go Warriors!
Beat USC!
Sorry to Mr. Block. If we win, you just better be ready to wear that Warrior jersey. LOL! Or I get to TP your house with green TP. Wonder what your neighbors will think?
Gameday tomorrow. Man I LOVE college football. GO WARRIORS!
KGMB TV news reporting tonite that Football season ticket sales are down
compared to last year…..so much for new coach and new direction.
This years home football schedule is POOR…..Like my neighbor said….Why
buy season tickets?…Opponents are weak….Will go to games if Hawaii wins and
good opponent shows up…..
Found an article on ESPN saying that the Cleveland Browns are bringing in Solomon Elimimian for depth at LB. Also saw that Aaron Brown got cut. Go Bows, Beat USC!
I am a huge uh fan but realistically the probability of beating team that you are a 40 point underdog too is probably 1 percent but all I want is for them to play hard…… And cover the spread!
Dream big dreams.
Represent.
Oyasumina-tsai…
This is like Christmas Eve…
How is someone who just served time in prison for felonies even still on the team? I guess the same rules don’t apply to everyone.
#290 but the night is dark and full of terrors …
BUT GO WARRIORS
Where is El cibidus, when you need him?
Re: Warrior QB Sean Schroeder…..
http://www.ocregister.com/sports/schroeder-370057-vehikite-three.html
i believe it was by our choice that we didn’t have a “walk through” i’m pretty sure that is what chow said.
Went to several games at Consolidated Theatre Koolau last season.
They have this game tomorrow 1:30 PM. They do a good job. Good crowd.
Called last weekend to check and they said Oceanic dragging their feet on the
rest of the games this year, making them wait for a decision on which games
etc. ###
#291 GOT!!
evening sat is da day
race is on al
ok waiting game on
try again
maybe get chance
cheering
thanks a first for me at three puka puka
how’s everyone holding out?
.
😎
kev-1 – #290 – the bigger question is: why only 3 months for driving drunk and causing injury? Didn’t Davone get like 15 months for being in the wrong place at the wrong time?
Congrats to the Wahine vb on their sweep of USF and the futbol team on their tie with Drexel.
(BTW, we starting again with no breaking news coverage of Wahine sports? I don’t see a story on the futbol game.)
#294 It is doccumented that Kiffen(Kefe) denied entrance to the Coliseum. That is a fact. Our coach was gracious enough, not to make it an issue. So much for Trojan class.
Brian McInnis on Twitter gave updates. Wahine were down 1-2, tied it and with less that 10 mins took the lead 3-2. Drexel scored with 11 seconds. Game ended in a 3-3 tie after OT.
Rainbow Wahine Soccer is 3-1-1 on the year so far.
What is it–14 1/2 hours away? Who else can’t slee?

The house would’nt take the other hun straight up.
Morning folks!
Wow insomnia running rampant from NY to Hawaii… Hope our boys were able to get some rest…
Couple Notes from yesterdays games… Boise is not that good this year. And if Stanford should’ve lost to San Jose St, why can’t we beat USC… Alright now back to my insomnia Netflix streaming…
Well, all I know is that MSU’s Bell was making a mockery of BSU’s rush defense. Also, both Southwick and Maxwell looked like first-year players and BSU’s rushing game was easily stopped. MSU should have beat the Broncos by at least 21 points if it weren’t for those untimely turnovers. Is this typical first-game sloppiness or a sign that certain teams are not all what they are cracked up to be?
Morning! 😉

Its such as you learn my mind! You seem to grasp so much about this, such as you wrote the book in it or something. I feel that you simply can do with some p.c. to force the message home a bit, but instead of that, this is excellent blog. A great read. I will certainly be back.
Dare to dream Warrior Fans!
Team is close to Disneyland, and dreams do come true.
Sweet dreams Warriors.

Who going win? Us. Nevvah mine the score.
After watching the struggles of both Michigan St. and Boise St. last nite, I’d say both are over-rated in the polls. BSU drops out of the top 25 this week. Next loss for BSU will be, BYU.
GO WARRIORS!! you/we can DO IT!!!
Shoko, you’re right… Boise should’ve lost by at least 21…
Game Day, Baby!!!
Morning, Gang!
Go, Warriors!
But first, gotta bring da youngest son to da doctor… Dang it!
@343,
Add Stanford to the list of overrated… They looked horrible against San Jose St!
ND13 – Navy 0. 2nd Qtr 13:33.
Top of the Morning Lads & Lassies!
339.chopsueyboy, 😆
IT’s SATURDAY!!!!
Game day!
Go Warriors!!!
Watching the ND-Navy game.
Friends and family somewhere in the crowd . . .
Difference between ND and Hawai’i?
ND fills charter flights. Hawai’i squeezes on commercial flights.
ND sends their cheerleaders across the Atlantic. Hawai’i sends their cheerleaders across the Pacific.
ND sends their full band. Hawai’i sends a boombox.
After watching the struggles of both Michigan St. and Boise St. last nite, I’d say both are over-rated in the polls. BSU drops out of the top 25 this week.
I still can’t get over that the band did not get to go!
I can’t believe that last play
Well, all I know is that MSU’s Bell was making a mockery of BSU’s rush defense. Also, both Southwick and Maxwell looked like first-year players and BSU’s rushing game was easily stopped.
Dang.
Good morning Tsaikos-
It’s a beautiful day in the LA basin and I smell an upset brewing. Shock the world, baby !!
Go Warriors !!
I still can’t get over that the band did not get to go!!
Fumble recovery TD ND now 27 – Navy 0
Wow, Ireland is beautiful!
Game not so good looking with Navy struggling…
Watched the BSu/Mich game can’t believe I rooted for Mich. St. but I did. Had I been the coach of Mich. I would have given that kid Bell a thousand touches, he is one good RB. BSu couldn’t stop him. I would have loved to see him in Warrior green.
rooting for Navy, but looks like at this point they are undersized on both side of the ball.
Maybe they’ll regroup to take advantage of their size in the 2nd half??
Yeah, rb-Bell for MSU was the whole offense…without him, nada.
Good Morning Warriors!
wafan, ur #353….ND can because they swimmin in$$$$$$.
#362 you do not go to Ire for the view; you go for the Brew.
I think that stadium is very unique in it’s design. Maybe the architects got drunk designing it…..bwaahaha!, just joking; very pretty stadium.
What the heck was that? LOL…
I was talking about the guy running on the field… Flipping back and forth between the game and College Gameday… I don’t think the guys at ESPN know anyone on our team or staff besides Coach Chow…
David Flaherty is a hoooot.
eight and a half hours more.
Kawika,
Agreed… Nice pic by Te’o.
Great Morning All!
IT’S SATURDAY!
Tsaikos, Are You Ready?
Right on, csb. Das da one!

Always Ready!
AZWARRIOR,
Once you get past the outside walls of the Coliseum…the smell will go away!
But watch out once you get inside! 😉 😆 😈
Right on, WarriorNY! 🙂
Gameday!
Go Warriors!!!
If the Warriors don’t believe the hype and just play hard as ONE SOUL IN MANY BODIES, all will be well.
NO FEAR, JUST PLAY AS ONE!
It’s pu hio saturday, can’t wait till game play…hoo hoo hooo.. hoo hoo hoo hooo hoo.
Gotta say- USC has some wonderful and inspiring traditions. Hawaii could learn and be inspired too. No matter who the coaches or players are, they feel like they represent something bigger than themselves. And their band believes it too. Pretty durn awesome!
Should a said, katoosh katoosh katoosh.
That is a cheer Hawaii should use…Katooosh shakalaka, katoosh shakalaka, katoooooosh.
ST,
Awesome game preview…
Go WARRIORS!
Send ’em home on their shields!
HiHo….
Huzzah VolleyBows and SoccerBows!
Whoo-hoo!!!
Great evening at Home in Lahaina last night.
Met some Tsaikos in the group.
We had over 15 former FB players show up from multiple decades. John Arnold and Frank Voss came in from Chicago. There statement was ‘it is time to get involved again’.
Somewhere there are pictures of the group (including a former BB player) floating around. We will get them to ST when possible and/or post to a Facebook page and reference it in this blog.
On to the game from here.
Good morning Tsaikos
Looking forward to the new Norm.
Looking for the Boom Shaka
Boom Shaka Boom LAKALAKA

@ kawika49: #362 you do not go to Ire for the view; you go for the Brew.
🙂 I wouldn’t a brew with the view!
Insert “mind” above
I had a 48hour pass from Germany in 69 and went to Ire…till today I don’t remember; what happened…Everyone told me, I had a gooooood time.
Happy Birthday Momo from the north country
Go Warriors, Shock the World!!!!!

Football season is finally back….therefore so am I!! Tough first game of the Chow era but I’ll be watching it up here in Bellevue, Washington with my warriors jersey on and every good luck charm I can find
