Warriors land lineman

Leo Koloamatangi, a lineman from Sacred Hearts Prep High School in Northern California, told the Warrior Beat he has accepted a scholarship offer from the Warriors.

Koloamatangi, who is 6 feet 5 and 255 pounds, said he chose the Warriors because of UH assistant coach Lewis Powell, a long-time family friend, and UH head coach Norm Chow. He played on the offensive and defensive lines for the Gators, but has not been told which position he will play at UH. He said he will put his commitment in writing Feb. 1, the first day recruits may sign national letters of intent.

“I can’t wait,” said Koloamatangi, who will visit Hawaii next week.

Two important figures of Hawaii football history — George Lumpkin and Dick Tomey — will not be part of the Warriors’ future. Both were told they will not be retained after their contracts expire March 31.

For 38 of the past 41 years, Lumpkin has been a player, coach and administrator for the Warriors. The past two years, he has served as UH’s director of personnel.

Tomey was the Warriors’ head coach for 10 seasons, through 1986. He also was head coach at Arizona and San Jose State. Tomey has 47 years of coaching experience. He rejoined the Warriors last year, serving as special teams coordinator.

Norm Chow will have in-person meetings with Nick Rolovich and Tony Tuioti next week.

Looking for a tight end? It appears Tana Woodard is set to join the Warriors:

    lucky 7

  8. AlaWai January 4, 2012 12:20 am

I hope they keep both. One on each side of the ball. They both are talented and know the player personnel.

  9. truegreen January 4, 2012 12:21 am

    Back in the top ten.

As much as I will miss seeing Dick Tomey on the sidelines again, it was kinda expected. The real suspense is with Rolo and Tuioti…

  10. TYaiea January 4, 2012 12:23 am

got a feeling that it will be Tony. Coach may be like Georgia Tech’s Paul Johnson, head coach and offensive coordinator.

  11. mo808 January 4, 2012 12:24 am

I hope so too, but it doesn’t seem likely to happen that both Rolo & Tuioti would be kept by Chow! But, they’re young so only good things could happen for them! They’ll land on their feet somewhere!

The brother of a Warrior is the top recruit in Southern California for the 2013 class.

In a semifinal playoff game against Upland, Cravens recorded 12 tackles and three sacks. In a quarterfinal playoff game against Riverside North, he rushed for 201 yards and scored three touchdowns.

He is considered the No. 1 college prospect in Southern California for 2013 with more than 25 scholarship offers, and that is certainly not based on potential alone.

Here is the All-Area team from the LA Times. It looks like this includes LA County, Orange County, and San Bernadino County, so making the 1st team is a huge honor. There seem to be a lot of players listed that haven’t committed to any school yet…

Norm Chow is supposedly making a home visit this weekend to this SJSU QB commit. Tyler Stewart is 6’4″, 210-pounds, 3-star, and chose SJSU over Fresno State. In 2010, he threw for 2,800 yards, 39 touchdowns and was named First Team All-League and First Team All-CIF

Fan reaction on Twitter resulted in the top safety recruit in the country removing USC from his top 3 schools of interest.

Shaq Thompson is one of the nation’s top recruits. An uber-athlete who currently is ranked as the nation’s top safety prospect, Thompson would be an absolute monster recruit for any major national collegiate football program to land, the kind of star who could come in and potentially start from day one on campus. On Sunday, Thompson (who is just one of a trio of prospects named Shaq in the current Rivals250) appeared to narrow down specifically which programs he would play for, listing California, Washington and USC as his final three considerations, first in an interview with Rivals.com and then to the masses on Twitter.

That’s when the Twitterverse seemed to explode, and Thompson rapidly changed his mind. Really.

This is so funny… From when Chow was hired, all any of us wanted to know was whether Rolo and Tuioti will be retained… And all we hear about is everyone else…

    In Chow, we trust…

  27. Seawalker January 4, 2012 5:58 am

Lumpkin was quite a guy, alright. When working at Sakamaki one summer, Lumpkin would drop by frequently, well, to talk story, of course, to the registration people. It was his loud laugh and cheerful disposition that stood out the most. Time to retire, George. Besides, hay tastes not too bad out in the pasture. Chow…

Why would he keep Rolovich who is about the run-n-shot and Norm is a pro-set type coach, complete with two-back formations and a tight end? Seems like he will bring in a coordinator with that type of background.

  31. WarriorNY January 4, 2012 6:53 am

    #31,

He could keep Rolo as qb coach and allow a more gradual transition from the RnS. He also has experience playing pro style offenses in NFL Europe… Chow could also recognize Rolo’s potential…

  32. hossana January 4, 2012 6:56 am

I am sick n tired…disgusted actually…of the local culture or local yokels insisting or wanting or desiring that Chow retain certain members of the last HC staff….that’s so absurb and ridiculous….Chow should just eliminate everyone and bring in his own staff which looks like to be the case….even these provincial local news media hailing Miano as the second coming or other members of the Mack staff is so absurb….enough….let Chow hire whoever he wants and stop second guessing him…..no wonder Hawaii football will always be mired as 3rd class because of the local mentality….also, if local recruits have an opportunity to play for Stanford, USC, Oregon, Nebraska etc. etc…do you actually blame them for leaving and no one can fault the recruiting process if these recruits go away…we are in a different situation and locals need to understand that….geezus…get with it you news media people and local yokels…..you want a first class program with third class mentality …..look at the finances, facilities etc….ridiculous…I give Tomey & J. Jones credit for what they did with so little in elevating the status of UH football program…..cheers!

It has nothing to do with local culture…

  49. 1sportsfan January 4, 2012 7:47 am

Watching the Michigan/Vtech game, I was impressed by the intensity and speed of both defenses, and especially of the interior linemen. This is the level of defense that UH couldn’t contain when they went to the Sugar Bowl and is the standard that Chow & Co. expect to attain as well as defend against. Hopefully they will.

  50. mo808 January 4, 2012 7:50 am

#51 I missed that … Maybe the spell check is turned off? 🙂

  51. TYaiea January 4, 2012 7:54 am

wow hossana lots of anger there. don’t get worked up so much might get a heart attack.

  52. UHFan January 4, 2012 7:55 am

Hawaii needs to keep Tony Tuioti and Rolo. Tuioti brings solid recruiting ties in the West Coast and also in Islands, especially in American Samoa. He’s a gifted Coach with experience that did a great job this year with his Defensive Line. It will be a loss if Chow lets both Rolo and Tuioti go.

  53. Da Punchbowl Kid January 4, 2012 7:57 am

IMHO, Rolo and Tuioti should be neither excluded or included automatically as future assistants because they are from the former coaching staff. Same with all the other former assistants. Chow will make the call based on the good of the program. Personally I hope both are retained, if not, Chrust in Chow.

  54. Bleed Green and White January 4, 2012 8:08 am

    Wow!

    Hey #34 (hossana)

Here’s the deal, you call me “local yokel” (that’s right i took it personally), then I call you “carpet bagger” (with hopes you take it personal).

Nobody here is insisting anything, and I think many have stated before, guys like Rolovich and Tuioti, both of whom have done wonderful things as players and coaches for our University, well, some of us would like coach Chow to take a look at possibly retaining them. No insisting, no demanding, no ignorance involved.

As for local news media hailing Rich Miano as the “second coming”, with the exception of Bobby Curran and Papa Leahey, nobody else in the Hawaii media made their opinions public. Miano did, often, but the media did not. Sure, the media gave him a platform, but Miano himself did all the talking.

“Also, if local recruits have an opportunity to play for Stanford, USC, Oregon, Nebraska etc. etc…do you actually blame them for leaving?”

    Um, no!

    Really?

You must really think we’re all idiots who live in grass shacks and sip Mai Tais.

An opinion is one thing, “throwing stones” from an ignorant perspective is another thing.

    I’m just saying…..

  55. Couch potato January 4, 2012 8:24 am

hossana, you spelled absurd wrong twice! 😆 that also must be the most dot dot dots i’ve seen in a long time. 😆 and btw, it has nothing to do with local culture or local yokel.

many here are passionate about who and what they want for Warrior football. no need bash them for that. bottom line is to support the coaches and players.

    …cheers.

  56. Couch potato January 4, 2012 8:29 am

    and then there were two.

  57. Couch potato January 4, 2012 8:38 am

hope the 2 new coaches are enjoying the huge waves on the North shore. hope they remember to not venture near the shoreline to get a better look.

  58. RedZone January 4, 2012 8:41 am

    Mahalo coach Lumpkin and Tomey.

  59. RedZone January 4, 2012 8:45 am

Go Chow. Find the holy grail.

  60. Luki January 4, 2012 8:49 am

Luck to both coach Rolo and coach Tuioti if they make it on to coach Chow’s staff, if not, they are young, bright guys who should catch on else where. When you go 6-7, with expectations to take a very watered down WAC conference, you gotta expect big changes…

  61. Bulla January 4, 2012 8:52 am

Mahalo to Coach Tomey and Coach Lumpkin.

Both are great coaches and have made their contribution to the UH program over the years, and also to our community.

Coach Lumpkin has been doing ministry work for many years at OCCC every monday from 6 pm to 8 pm when he was not travelling with the team. He gives the men there the hope that they need; and he has done it with consistency and compassion. Mahalo Coach Lumpkin for reaching out to those that few others reach.

Good luck to Coach Chow and his staff, exciting times are upon us…

    GO WARRIORS

  62. Abunai January 4, 2012 8:56 am

What I don’t like is the local kids saying UH never recruited them. I just don’t see the logic in that. I know the coaches try to recruit the top tier of Hawaii kids but if the kids say I’m thinking of going to the mainland or I’m waiting to see who else offers. That just tells me that kid wants to go somewhere else. But if the kid tells the coaches that they are really considering UH then it’s up to the coaches to keep that going. Someone mentioned a kid that went to UCLA and the kid said UH never recruited him. But I believe that’s not the whole story.

  63. Derek January 4, 2012 9:03 am

Chris Peterson just signed a new 5 year contract extension starting at $2 million per year and increases each year. Well deserved. It’s out of this world for a school like Boise State in Idaho to pay that kind of money, but Peterson’s record, 73-6 speaks for itself. And you know what, he’s probably still underpaid. And, did you notice that there are more and more Boise St. players making it in the NFL. I can count at least 7 players from this Sr. class will be drafted including Kellen Moore, Doug Martin, Nate Potter, George Iloka, Jerod Johnson, Billy Winn, and Shea McClellen.

The bad, Boise St.s starting offensive and defensive units were overwhelmingly senior laden. The good, Boise St. just reloads with underclassmen that had a lot of playing time. No question, they will be the pre-season pick this coming season in the Mountain West. I am sure Norm Chow is well aware of what Peterson has been doing and he is taking notes. Chow’s goal is to have his teams be very good each and every year (as in reload). My goal is to see at least one more BCS Bowl game, and a win before I die. Getting old and time is running out fast.

  64. madeinhawaii January 4, 2012 9:04 am

“There can only be one…. ”

    “..and then there were one”

    but which one? Tony? Nick?

Guess we’ll find out soon enough, eh?

    Morning Warrior World! …

very reliable “birdie” told me that Kumatle has a full ride scholarship to Stanford – good luck to him.

  66. Couch potato January 4, 2012 9:16 am

we may be surprised and find there can be two.

Abunai, could be when a player says they weren’t recruited means UH paid them a visit but never followed up while other schools kept in constant contact with them and made an offer.

  67. Couch potato January 4, 2012 9:18 am

    who is Kumatle?

  68. Bulla January 4, 2012 9:23 am

Oh when will the almighty and powerful bloggers on the internet allow the head coach to choose his own staff?

These are tense times as we await the word of the next post providing a link to an online article about an assistant coach leaving.

  80. tommui January 4, 2012 9:47 am

    GOOD MORNING HAWAII!

I was kinda amused at the various news stories coming out about how Coach Chow may get a higher payoff than Coach Mac.

One of the high hopes for Coach Chow was that ticket sales would increase under his regime. I hope and pray so. So whether it increases by 0nly 5,000 of 15,000 or so – he would desire every penny for he brought the enthusiasm back to UH football.

And of course a minor bowl game, National TV appearances etc, top 15, why not? That is the goal we could and should reach.

While I hope it can be achieved, the goal of National Top 10, BCS appearance, BCS wins are Mount Everest and once in a blue moon event, when you make your story based on possible (but not probable) happenings, I would think that the story is akin to saying elephants can fly.

What we need is a easy schedule and another Colt Brennan to have another blue-moon.

  81. cocobean January 4, 2012 9:48 am

75K for 5000 new season tix. Win, win for all involved if goal is met.

Chow and the AD should go 50-50 and run a Lingle type ad. “We will chase championships.” Buy your season tickets now. Click to watch video.

  82. tommui January 4, 2012 9:48 am

Wow, what I need for 81 is a spell check and grammar check!

  83. cheepono January 4, 2012 9:49 am

it seems like chow is taking a much harder look at rolo and tony since he’ll be meeting with them in person next week as opposed to over the phone like the rest of the previous coaches.

  84. kev-1 January 4, 2012 9:51 am

What the heck is a “local yokel?” Sounds like it could be a breakfast dish.

  85. kev-1 January 4, 2012 9:52 am

Hawaii: Norm Chow’s contract is for 5 years. It is believed to be in the neighborhood of $500,000 – $600,000 per year, but Chow does have to pay for his own parking pass on-campus. Chow is allowed to receive outside deals for media and apparel. He gets 8 free parking passes to home games and 30 tickets per game.

Hey? Do those 30 tickets count towards his 25K season ticket goal?

  97. jm2375 January 4, 2012 10:07 am

    Good morning Tsaikos!

Welcome to the Warriors, Tana Woodard!

Mahalo to Coaches Tomey and Lumpkin for all your years of great service to UH, the players and the community.

    ¡Feliz cumpleaños gmahoney!

    GO WARRIORS!

    GO HOYAS!! 😀

This coming season might be our best chance to beat Boise St. since they lose Moore and Martin, coupled with Hawaii’s new coaching staff and offensive scheme. Better if we can get them early in the season.

  99. ai-eee-soos January 4, 2012 10:09 am

RIGHT ON – don’t need this guy in OUR ohana; don’t “fit”.

Damn.. Who are these UH Manoa Parking Office people?? They got some PULL!!!

Need to go work for them.

  102. Couch potato January 4, 2012 10:15 am

30 tickets, i wonder what section and color?

  103. Couch potato January 4, 2012 10:16 am

didn’t Red Rocha head the parking office at Manoa?

  104. d1shima January 4, 2012 10:19 am

    …not by choice!

  105. Bugaz January 4, 2012 10:19 am

Wouldn’t you think employing a new scheme with a well known offensive genius and no tightends on the roster, coach Chow could convince a big time TE to commit. Good luck coach!

  106. Bugaz January 4, 2012 10:20 am

30 tickets are for the green section

Anyone remember Mitchell Loewen…he’s a preferred walkon at Arkansas

In the article there are alot of dissapointing information.

    Souljah

Hopefully those days are gone with coach Chow at the helm.

That’s an old article right? How is he now, and did he make the roster or redshirt?

  112. polywarrior4life January 4, 2012 10:46 am

I wish the best of luck too coach Lumpkin and coach Tomey.

Good luck too coach Tuioti and Rolo, hope there’s a chance for those young bucks to learn from one of Hawaii’s finest coach, Chow Time.

Last year, St. Louis had a kid who has great hands and was a stand out receiver for the crusaders, Josh Tupua. Good size kid and would fit in perfect with the pro-set formation lined up as a tight-end.

Another kid is, Keone “Bush” Loo, did I say that correctly? He graduates this year and was a stand out tight-end for the warriors of Kamehameha.

  113. Kevin January 4, 2012 10:47 am

Roster at Arkansas still shows Loewen there.

  114. al January 4, 2012 10:51 am

don’t be surprised if, even at this late stage, we land a half a dozen local boys on feb. 1st.

including some of the prized catches as well as a few who are under the radar at this point. we probably won’t have enough scholies for all of the prospects who want in, including the mainlanders and samoa native players.

Thank you and good luck to Dick and George. Never expected them to be retained anyway. With over 30 years of State service Lumpkin can retire if that’s his wish. As for Tomey, I guess this was his last tour in college. I’m sure they could volunteer as high school coaches. Maybe they can join Ron Lee with the improving Falcons:-)

You heard it here and from me first: Chow does not make it more than two seasons before he is fired.

Chow is a career assistant coach, good at “grooming” race horses, and that is all. To be a winning HC at D1, you need more tools and skill sets and Chow does not have it.

Yes. You can all gripe now and resort to your usual “he is a troll” comments. No problem. I said the same about Mac. I’m saying the same here about Chicken Chow Mein.

Punahou DE Deforest Buckner verballed to the Oregon Ducks yesterday. I saw him play in person when he was a sophomore at 6’6″ and I said at that time that this guy is going to be a division I talent. Buckner must have been sold after the Rose Bowl and those Riddell shiny helmets. Not to mention they play exciting and they play fast. The Ducks will be ranked high again this year. Too bad UH couldn’t land Buckner. Don’t know if Chow would have made a difference.

Stephen, who are the players joining the football program in January, JCs and gray shirts? Rundown please. How many scholarships can Chow offer in the spring signing in Feb?

UHAD did a credible job with crafting Norm Chow’s contract. A 180 degree turn from the previous head coach. Following JJ and MAC, the third time must be charm. Glad they got it together.

Buying Chow out without cause will be based on his base salary over his remaining 4 and a flat $200,000 for the 5th year. It protect’s Hawaii if NC bombs. If Chow does well, he gets rewarded with bonuses plus UH can bump his base if need be. No doubt, it was all made possible bc of Chow’s humble willingness to cooperate contractually. A win-win for both sides.

  142. Da Punchbowl Kid January 4, 2012 12:40 pm

    Uce-

Chow hasn’t even moved into his office and you are making statements like the one above. You also previously incorrectly accused me of not having faith in “local” coaching at UH, and then you make that satement above. How much more local does a coach have to be to make you happy?

    We are ALL fans here.

  143. Couch potato January 4, 2012 12:46 pm

    Uce #2, we’ll see.

  146. Kevin January 4, 2012 12:51 pm

How much more local can a coach get?

-you catch him in his office diggin his piko.

-you can distract him with the scent of akule poke

-instead of calling his name to get his attention, you start softly singing henehene kou ‘aka…

-his cell phone (BULKY nokia that is always on speaker phone) ringtone is a conch shell

    Any more???

Both Rolo and Tony T are young (early thirties), had responsible positions under MAC, are UH products and have contacts on the mainland. The fact that NC is conducting interviews with these only-two-left-standing at this late date and time is no curious coincidence….while it remains Norm Chow’s choice, bet wishes to Rolo and Tony on being retained.

  158. Will-I-Am January 4, 2012 1:20 pm

Does anyone know who I can contact at Hawaiian Air (I am assuming PR dept.) to see if they would consider naming the field “Hawaiian Airlines Battlefield”?

It just makes sense to me. The Warriors play on the Battlefield. Players would love it!

  159. al January 4, 2012 1:21 pm

spoke to our resident expert on hawaii football…and he said it perfectly.

we are getting a head coach who will upgrade our recruiting efforts with positive results. we will recruit to bigger, stronger, and faster student/athletes. what we saw at our last game is what we will experience in the years down the road.

we will have a staff that not only will be tireless recruiters but also some of the top mentors of our players in the business.

    yep…

…after all these are exciting times.

  160. al January 4, 2012 1:23 pm

i believe that the curtain will start opening for the identities of our coaching staff any time now. been hearing some names that will embrace the mantra of this new era.

    stay tuned.

  161. al January 4, 2012 1:26 pm

what i’ve missed at the stadium…

    two things

one, conch shells alerting us of the entrance of our warriors.

two, the cannon blast after each score

    three, an audible pa system

  162. kev-1 January 4, 2012 1:27 pm

As unhappy as I was about Mack being hired and getting paid that much, and as ready as I was for him to leave, I at least gave him a chance and the benefit of the doubt at the beginning that maybe he was the right guy and he could get it done. Don’t we at least owe Chow that?

I disagree with Uce2. There is no reason to believe that Chow doesn’t possess the qualities necessary for a head coach to succeed. Saying he doesn’t is pure speculation and premature at this point.

Granted Uce, you are entitled to your opinion, so I do not think you are a troll. I just hope you’re wrong.

  163. LizKauai (bonafide) January 4, 2012 1:28 pm

Chee hoo! No mattah what, some still love trollin!

The Warrior Beat is alive and well!

Mahalo, Coaches who are leaving/have left UH.

    God Bless.

    GO WARRIORS!

  164. Kevin January 4, 2012 1:30 pm

    Al,

When you imply you miss something, you elude to the fact that it used to exist.

So… WHEN did an audible sound system exist at Aloha Stadium?

  165. Couch potato January 4, 2012 1:34 pm

was i hearing things? i thought i heard conch shells blowing over the inept sound system?

  166. al January 4, 2012 1:35 pm

what i would like to see at the stadium.

    seven things,

one, a real live mascot that is animated and energetic enough to roam all sides of the stadium

two, having the mascot “ride” the surfboard out from the entranceway

three, okay if no conch shells blaring, then, hawaiian style tribal drum roll with a war chant

four, tv monitors in the men’s restrooms throughout.

five, have the fans do a mini version of the haka at the start of the game and halftime, with cues flashed on the jumbotron.

six, another jumbotron in the south end zone

seven, find an ammo manufacturer of that cannon blaster

eight, rainbow dancers not relegated to one endzone

    okay, okay nuff already.

  167. Kevin January 4, 2012 1:36 pm

For the second half of the 2008 season (or 2009), the marching band opened with Hawaii 78 and then went into Hawaii Five O.

It was great. Not sure why they stopped it. They were still able to incorporate the UA intro video (like for other UA schools).

It wasn’t until 2010 they started having former Warriors introduce the team to be followed by that scene from the movie “Warriors” where he says “waaaariors come out to play…yay…..”

They still used it this season with a montage of the team, which I thought was well-produced.

  168. Couch potato January 4, 2012 1:37 pm

i thought the conch shells went on before the “Warriors, come out to play” guy on the big screen came on?

  169. Kevin January 4, 2012 1:37 pm

    Couch potato:

    No. that was feedback.

  170. al January 4, 2012 1:37 pm

weren’t the sound system that june jones bought with his own money loud and clear. after he left they took them out. he didn’t ask for them back.

    just another aloha stadium folly.

  171. Couch potato January 4, 2012 1:39 pm

Kevin, maybe was the guy behind me making conch shell sounds. 😆

  172. al January 4, 2012 1:41 pm

cp…were you sitting in front of koakane?

  173. Kevin January 4, 2012 1:42 pm

    Al,

Those things were loud, but not clear.

Sitting in the lower portion of the orange when we still had those they acted more like sub bass woofers. At best it sounded like someone had a loud radio on in the section next to you.

I lost half of my hearing due to surgery, but my friends kept asking me, “what is that?” everytime they played something and we’re like 20 rows away from them.

They all faced the field too. Must have been loud on the field.

  174. kev-1 January 4, 2012 1:44 pm

If no can have a sound system do it, then the fans should all do it in harmony . .. “phhhoooooooouuuuuuuuuoooooohhhhhhhh.” Guarantee goin have the one guy who does it wrong and just gives out the spit sound though.

  175. Couch potato January 4, 2012 1:46 pm

as long as they don’t hand out free vuvuzela…hey, maybe that is a good idea and hand them out to the student section. nah, that might irritate the Warrior sideline.

  176. Kevin January 4, 2012 1:46 pm

The speaker are just old as hell.

Concert style sound systems today are based on quality and not quantity. Those added speakers from years ago just is like adding duct tape to a cracked pillar. Instead of getting to the crack, they tried to shine kaka.

Modern stadiums are not inundated with obscene amounts of speakers.

Aloha Stadium’s primary speakers are all on the perimeter of the roof then a few tine ones in the lodges, then NOTHING.

If they are NOT going to upgrade the system, at least add in speakers closer to the levels of blue which will carry sound onto the orange as well.

  177. jm2375 January 4, 2012 1:48 pm

So no one with the ability to adjust the PA system has ever sat in different sections to see how it sounds? Oh wait, never mind, that makes too much sense. 😈

  178. Derek January 4, 2012 1:50 pm

Chow knows what it takes to win. Now he has to get the right players to win for him. He has the coaching experience and he has to have a great staff to teach and to recruit. The goal is to upgrade the talent level with taller, bigger, faster, athletic, and hopefully smarter team, with DISCIPLINE. If he can do that, then we can compete at the highest level. Up to this point we are not even. Give him some time and we will see very soon if we are in the right direction.

  179. Kevin January 4, 2012 1:57 pm

It’s all about QUALITY of sound, not quantity.

This is a pic of the University of Phoenix Stadium. Site of the Cardinals and home of the Fiesta Bowl. This pic is an example of quality of sound doing the job over quality.

Those white things hanging from the roof are their concert-style speakers. Not that many for a facility that big. This happens to be a shot of the set up for one of the Wrestlemania events there. The huge set above the ring including additional speakers are WWE’s not the stadiums. But still yet, without those, the quality is amazing.

    http://tribalwrestling.com/wp-content/uploads/Wrestlemania-27-Set-Design.jpg

  180. Will-I-Am January 4, 2012 2:01 pm

    Al,

I love your suggestions. The whole fan experience at the stadium is pretty weak. I don’t like to complain but I really don’t have anything nice to say about it.

I took my kids to a game and we decided to do the classic hot dog at a football game experience. That was the worst hot dog I have ever had. It was tiny and flavorless. 7-Eleven has better dogs. Costco has more of a hot dog experience than the stadium. Manini short-comings things like that are all over the stadium and it really is sad to see.

  181. Kekoa January 4, 2012 2:01 pm

jmxxxx ~ Position Screecher in a strategic area of the stadium for maximum screech. That will force the stadium authority to install a new system so they can drown out the noise…no, try wait…they may try to drown her. Yikes!

  182. Couch potato January 4, 2012 2:03 pm

Will-I-Am, they also have the foot long hotdog but for the price i rather go out after the game and have a steak.

  188. AllG January 4, 2012 2:29 pm

Really hope Chow keeps Rolo and Tuioti. I think they are great coaches and recruiters and fit that mold of what Chow is looking dfor in young energetic coaches who are gonna put in the time. With the personnel we have now we are going to have to use a lot more 3 & 4 receiver sets and I think it would help to have Rolo on the staff. Chow could also groom Rolo to be our future OC and possibly HC.

  227. aral January 4, 2012 3:13 pm

cp…we get a transfer who must sit out this coming year and will have 2 for 2.

we most probably get a 5th year transfer who has 1 for 1 this year

we get a hs qb this year with 5 for 4.

several top hs qb’s have contacted chow and one will be the winner.

what does this spell for the incumbents on roster?

we will know be the end of spring camp who will return in the fall or not. graves is the penciled #1 for now. but, competition will remain open through fall camp.

my gut feeling is that at least one or two will find another home by summer’s start.

How you figga better late then not at all lol

The University of Hawaii athletic department is set up to score off the merchandising of new head football coach Norm Chow.

Two local firms, Maui Bay Shirt Company and L&L Drive-Inn, have reached agreements to share proceeds from T-shirts and other items playing off the coach’s name, and the school is planning its own line of merchandise, people involved said.

  234. aral January 4, 2012 3:18 pm

cp…to further expound on the qb situation.

logically, we have recruited for rns qb’s. although we all want a big greg alexander, we have not been successful in recruiting that prototypical type.

we transition to wco chow hybrid. he wants a bigger qb to see over the 6’5″ olinemen he will bring in.

    the search begins.

  235. Bugaz January 4, 2012 3:21 pm

    January 4th, 2012 at 3:07 pm

i wonder if the ducks use that nike shoe?

Wouldn’t be the first time Nike and a program got into some heat with the NCAA if only Oregon is supplied with a piece of equipment that no other program has.

Nike made a certain bat ONLY for the Arizona softball team when they set the previous HR record. Then the NCAA ruled that those bats must be made available for other programs as well if they wanted.

I am NOT sure if this extends to ALL equipment sponsors in other sports, but that is why it makes me LAUGH when people cite the UA shoes as to why the team struggled this season or blamed them as sole points of problems with injures.

No secret some players had problems fitting them. Reported issues of larger line players grabbing shoes meant for skilled and smaller footed players just because of the way they looked is one source of discomfort to which UA fixed seasons ago.

So with that in mind, other UA programs like Texas Tech, USC, Auburn, Utah all have the same cleats as UH, just in different colors and styles on the outside.

Any problems with performance or injuries to scale like what we had this past season with those teams???????????????????????????????

I got wide feet, not too wide, but local “luau” feet as some would say. Not flat-footed either. Depending on the model of UA shoe, I’ve had to go a half size up and it’s fine. UA’s running shoes offers options for those that have tendancies to run or walk on the outside of their feet or the inside.

Their “trainer” shoes are more one dimensional and some people would have to go half a size up.

Just today, my new shoes arrived in time to match this coming Wahine softball season. UA Ignite III and I got them in the wide fit. PERFECT.

  240. Kevin January 4, 2012 3:31 pm

    Koakane,

Thanks for that. The first should be their version of a “CHOW TIME” shirt.

Says CHOW TIME on the front with an image of Coach Chow next to it. Chow Time in the UH tapa font.

On the back says IT’S THE NEW NORMAL with “NORM” in the UH tapa font.

  241. Couch potato January 4, 2012 3:34 pm

    5. QB Ikaika Woolsey on plane to Hawaii as we speak at 9:58 AM Jan 3rd.

Did the Gov welcome him at the Gov Lounge at HNL?

Busy weeks ahead for New Assist coaches’

  243. Derek January 4, 2012 3:36 pm

What about a good long range kicker? Unfortunately, we need one, even though I don’t trust them. The only one I was confident in was Jason Elam. Scott Enos had a good season in 2010, however his range was around 45 yards.

Making predictions. Have a 50/50 chance to be right on the topic at hand. Odds will decrease when perciseness is stated. Example day and time, the year, the amount, color, etc. etc.

There are many who state that they predicted many things beforehand. Yes they have but many don’t state how many times their prediction were wrong.

Just like gambling in Vegas. You hear about people jackpots and winning during their trip. Many people don’t come back and broadcast how much money they lost.

One prediction we all can bet on is that we will not be on this planet forever.

  257. PIAA DS January 4, 2012 4:41 pm

#242 Benji is at Utah; Koehler is a junior; Lakalaka is commited but hey, change his mind! Fonua was offered by UH, hopefully they extend the offer again. Govs/boosters etc are not allowed to welcome recruits. NCAA boo boo.

  258. PIAA DS January 4, 2012 4:43 pm

#135 – gotta wonder, who is going to run the walk on program. UH walk on program was considered one of the best in the nation.

  259. PIAA DS January 4, 2012 4:45 pm

…and some coaches don’t believe in grey shirts. Whats Norm’s philosophy on that? I think its the best thing since lasagne and garlic bread with tiramisu for dessert!

  260. PIAA DS January 4, 2012 4:51 pm

#62…gotta say, it happens all the time. Once I was in the UH office and we were watching some video of Colorado and the coach said to me “is THAT the Jordon Dizon you told me about” ..the story on that? They sent a GA over to Kauai to look at him, the GA got lost, and that was the end of their recruiting Dizon. They never contacted David Veikune – he came on his own free will after disliking Colorado; I wont go into more recent players, but unfortunately it did happen quite often. And people can go on and on about Kaluka Maiava, whether he pisses people off or not, but he never – ever – received a call from UH and the UH coaches told me so. Neither did his brother. I’ve never commented on it before, but now that the coaches that were there at the time are gone, Ill tell you its the truth.

  261. cheepono January 4, 2012 4:59 pm

thanks for shedding more light on our dismal local recruiting doris. it’s been pathetic for far too long. hoping chow can finally right the ship.

i thought GA’s couldn’t recruit? also, if a player is at another institution, coaches aren’t allowed to contact them unless a release is granted right?

  279. papajoe2 January 4, 2012 6:14 pm

Stats doesn’t look impressive at all. Averaged 5 yards per carry. Carried only 1 time though. .1 sack per game. Only 1 all season.

  280. papajoe2 January 4, 2012 6:16 pm

I hope he is an offensive lineman.

  281. madeinhawaii January 4, 2012 6:17 pm

So that’s two new Oline guys that are 6’5″… gotta grow our QBs.

  282. Stephen Tsai January 4, 2012 6:18 pm

Yes, he is an offensive lineman, not a running back. As an OL, he was named to the All-San Mateo County first-team (by San Jose Mercury News) and All-Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division first team.

  283. smatsum3 January 4, 2012 6:20 pm

Looks like this kid Koloamatangi is an animal. Just by looking at his video his drive blocks are simliar to Poutasi in that he finishes them off. Looks like coach did good in hiring Powell. Way to go coach and looking foward to more.

  293. AllG January 4, 2012 6:49 pm

Word is that Kiha Sai who earlier committed to Utah got his scholie rescinded to a gray shirt offer and he is not looking to gray shirt. He would strongly consider Hawaii if they were to offer him a scholie this year.

  294. AllG January 4, 2012 6:51 pm

He is another 6’5″ we could add to our class, I hope Hawaii goes after him

  295. mikesmith January 4, 2012 6:52 pm

    294.

If Chow was the OC at Utah and they decided to Gray shirt offer him, maybe Chow feels he is a project and not a full offer guy. Do you know if Sai has any full offers from any other school at this time?

  298. gmahoney January 4, 2012 6:59 pm

Thank you all for the wonderful birthday wishes. Next year is a big birthday for me, I’ll be able to get 10% off at Ross’ on Tuesdays. WoooHOOOO!

Mahalo, ST for mentioning my bday. You run a truly wonderful blog here. Through the blog, I have met some pretty terrific people.

I have reserved my opinions on the new coach. I remain cautiously optimistic. Some think he is the holy grail (or will attracting the holy grail) and some think he will keep our local boys home. All I know, whoever the coach is, whoever the assistants are, welcome. I support our team, win or lose, rain or shine. Hawaii’s team is MY team. Renewing my season tickets, my gang and I and the dshima’s will be representing in the Section V, North EZ. GO WARRIORS!

  300. Bugaz January 4, 2012 7:03 pm

Sai verbaled to Utah awhile ago, but just got pushed down the precedence list due to Poutasi committing a few days ago. Chow was at Utah when they offered him so I don’t see a reason not to offer him now, unless of course he has bigger fish lined up to contribute right away.

  301. Derek January 4, 2012 7:07 pm

The second coming of Leo Goeas!! Taller, meaner, leaner, and can put on another 40 lbs. easily without losing some speed.

  302. mikesmith January 4, 2012 7:09 pm

    301. Exactly maybe Chow has other prospects, if Sai got pushed down the list, it was for a reason, there was someone they wanted that was better. Does anyone know if he has any other full offers from other schools? If he is a big time recruit he should have other offers at the same time that Utah offered. If he says he does not want to gray shirt, then he must have another full offer in his pocket right? It would not be wise for a kid to say to the only school interested in him “I don’t want to gray shirt” without have a choice to go somewhere else. I’m sure he has a full offer somewhere.

  303. mikesmith January 4, 2012 7:10 pm

    without having a choice, sorry

  304. AllG January 4, 2012 7:12 pm

Sai got bumped after Chow accepted the Hawaii position. Chow recruited Sai to Utah, hopefully brings him to UH with him. Maybe they can get his brother to transfer as well who is a current Utah lineman

  305. mikesmith January 4, 2012 7:14 pm

    305. But what if Chow doesn’t want to offer him here, he has offers to other schools right?

  306. mikesmith January 4, 2012 7:15 pm

How about his brother at Utah, is he starting? How many years has he been there?

  307. mikesmith January 4, 2012 7:15 pm

If his brother wanted to transfer he would have to sit a year on his clock.

  309. mikesmith January 4, 2012 7:18 pm

Looks like his brother played in 2010, nothing for this season, he we have to burn a year if he transfers. Hmmm

Kapua Sai – UTAH: Coming off a solid spring showing when he earned a place in the two deep at left tackle.

2010- Played in two games (San Jose State and Colorado State) … participated in 35 plays on the line … highest grade was 74% (14-of-19) against San Jose State … pancake block was also against San Jose State.

    2009- Redshirt.

  310. mikesmith January 4, 2012 7:19 pm

Still curious to know what other full offers the younger Sai has, I can’t seem to find any info anywhere.

  311. AllG January 4, 2012 7:27 pm

He committed real early to Utah and a lot of schools backed off…not sure who had offered him previously

    8NsNlL omg this is dopeeeeeeee

  313. mikesmith January 4, 2012 7:35 pm

I don’t think Chow will be offering him, hopefully he is focused on big time recruits that are at least 4 star guys with offers in hand.

  314. BigHiloFan2 January 4, 2012 7:42 pm

    wow. WoW. WPW.

    Keep going team.

and thanks for the hard work and well wishes, Coaches Tomey and Lumpkin.

You have done us good. real good.

and mostly, kudos to Coach Chow. Giving Tony and Rolo respect. Listening

to them face to face. one on one. one at a time. i know. coaching college football is a business. you’re making this oseason fun already. thank you.

  315. FattyMcButterpants January 4, 2012 7:44 pm

Kapua Sai is not going to transfer here. The guy ahead of him was a senior and now he’ll be atop the depth chart. I know at one point Kiha was considered top 3 as far as local recruits go, at least by ESPN. If he is not solid with Utah, Colorodo may re-recruit him if they have the open scholie. We’d be foolish to not go after this kind of size/athleticism/upside.

  316. al January 4, 2012 7:53 pm

197…koloamatangi, well that was one of the bay area big boys.

  317. al January 4, 2012 7:54 pm

koloamatangi is tongan if i am not mistaken.

  318. Bugaz January 4, 2012 7:54 pm

But does Kiha want to be a Warrior or go away? Is the coaching staff change enough to change his mind about leaving the rock? Coach knows what he is doing I am glad he is on our side.

  324. Bugaz January 4, 2012 8:01 pm

  328. Bugaz January 4, 2012 8:05 pm

Meeting of 5 get 4 not too bad if they all commit. Maybe number 5 no need meet, just like sign.

  329. bigislandkurt January 4, 2012 8:08 pm

Let the Tongan influx to UH begin!

    Utah 2.0 🙂

It’s alright with me because Tongan bradduhs can BALL! It’s gonna be somewhat of an interesting mix at UH considering the not-so-friendly history between Tongans and Samoans. Do we have any Tongan holdovers from last year’s team?

    BIK

  330. bigislandkurt January 4, 2012 8:11 pm

    6’5 or taller offensive linemen?

    Need to grow taller QB’s?

    Two words: Russell Wilson

Wisconsin’s All-American QB who is all of 5’9 1/2 who was effective behind one of the largest offensive lines in the land in Wisconsin.

    It can be done.

Ok, let my shameless promotion of Stump and HIggins continue. I hope Stump comes back. And I like HIggins because he is a lefty.

#268 el burro sabio: Don’t forget that Doris was PIAA (Pacific Athletic Alliance) and helped Hawaii athletes find placement somewhere in schools. So if she knew back then that the football department was not doing their job, she could not come out and say so at that time since she had to maintain good relations with the various schools.

Now that she is retired from the job, she can confirm that the then-recruiting efforts was lacking.

Welcome to the Warriors, Leo! Cheehoo!

  335. PIAA DS January 4, 2012 8:40 pm

#268 – no it would not have. I have a long and good relationships with the UH coaches and have kept confidences a very long time about many athletes. Its a trust thing.

#332 I talked to coaches about what my thoughts were about how they were recruiting. I did not have to talk in public about it, it would have served no purpose to badmouth them, would it. Truth is, Miano, Lee, etc, then even when Aranda and Rolo came, they all wanted to recruit earlier. JJ and GM would not have it. They had their way and that was they way they wanted to do it. UH got the ‘recruiting sheet’ that goes out to 100’s of colleges WEEKS before anyone else. And they were so frustrated that they could not do anything with it. Then when the time came, many of the athletes they wanted were gone, they had no love from UH and the others had been showering them with love, some for more than a year.

  336. PIAA DS January 4, 2012 8:43 pm

#261 – technically GA’s cant recruit (neither can the Player Personal person – the RC and the recruiters must be a coach). However, when the situation calls for it, if the NCAA gives permission and the GA can pass the exam, he can take on some recruiting duties. I think this years situation called for it for sure. But kids are getting calls from the coaches, they are in hurry up mode and I’m glad to hear it from them.

  337. PIAA DS January 4, 2012 8:45 pm

#332..meant to say thank you as well, then clarify my stance. Mahalo.

  338. Bugaz January 4, 2012 8:46 pm

Such a pity! What may have been. Maybe Mack would still have his job if not for what Doris claims.

  339. Pride. January 4, 2012 8:46 pm

What a day. Two coaches, three schools, about twenty athletes. All in one day. Amazing. That’s showing the love. Great job by NC’s first two hires.

  340. Bugaz January 4, 2012 8:48 pm

Yay kids are getting calls!!! What a difference a coach makes. He wants to win so it would make sence to get on board. Thanks Doris

  341. madeinhawaii January 4, 2012 8:51 pm

At Yahoo Sports it shows that Kiha Sai was recruited by Kalani Sitake, Chad Kauha’aha’a, NOT Norman Chow.

196……..you never know? Besides, don’t think Stanford is honoring that verbal offer, being that Kaumatule was on the sidelines half of the season due to injury. Injuries doesn’t help to up the offers either, especially when you haven’t done anything yet to prove that you’re capable of competing at the next level. There’s nothing wrong with be a Warrior4life.

  346. Bugaz January 4, 2012 9:09 pm

    340.

I hope of that 20 or so there were some underclass men feeling the love as well. Gots to get on them early and stay on um!

  347. Bugaz January 4, 2012 9:12 pm

    346.

You feel despite his injury and verbal to Stanford coach Chow should offer him anyway?

  348. Pride. January 4, 2012 9:15 pm

#347 – The 20 or so were the seniors. But they are aware of the underclassmen. Of course the underclassmen are aware of them too.

  349. 3-Prong January 4, 2012 9:38 pm

Wow Leo looks like a legit tackle. Great clips. Shows he knows how to drive block. He finishes by pancaking them. Terrific feet. Knows how to get into position to neutralize his man. This is getting exciting! QBs that can throw. OL commits. Get your season tickets fast!!!!

  350. Stephen Tsai January 4, 2012 9:57 pm

In the 25 years I’ve been a UH beat writer, Leo is the first person to start off the interview by saying: I want to thank you for interviewing me.

  351. JKJones January 4, 2012 9:58 pm

Leo Koloamatangi’s film clips looked like Blindside’s Michael Oher….geez, nearly every clip was a pancake. Several times he drove his victim 10-15 yards downfield. This kid is relentless and sticks to his block like an opihi clings to a cliff-rock and doesnt stop until his opponent is drilled into the turf. He is tenacious and athletic with tremendous balance and quick feet. What a score! With this recruit alone, Coach Lewis Powell, should set-aside any doubts for his selection by Chow. Koloamatangi reminds me of a taller Olin Krutz. Unreal get!

    Im stoked!

  353. JKJones January 4, 2012 10:04 pm

  354. Jeezy33 January 4, 2012 10:29 pm

Doris thanks for speaking up now .

I’ve posted many times on here Hawaii did not go after Jamora, peni vea, epenesa, and so on but people here love Mack too much to believe me. I know most of what lacked in the program and the so called only positive people only want to believe the good..

How does Gary Anderson know about Benny fonua before Mack when fonua is In our back yard?

And Richard Torres dad is the head coach..

Mack was completely lost as a recruiter. No other way to put it …

What was the point in signing tigi hill and Ben mamea when every school in the nation knew they wouldn’t qualify?

  355. MistahB84 January 4, 2012 10:32 pm

WTH is with all of these spam and video game advertisements on this blog?

Any ways, I know it’s early, but is it safe to say that the talents being recruited to for UH is a step up from what we are used to getting? I mean don’t get me wrong, every player we have ever recruited and gotten I admire, but these few kids that are being talked about here seem like they have the extra “umph” needed to take the team to a higher level. We’ve always had 1 really great kid recruited, often taken as a steal, or an injured blue chipper from h.s. that got offers taken away, or a player just looking for a new beginning after dealing with issues….in just about ever class for the past decade. Things are really taking shape. I just hope for crying out loud, let us at least get some size in the corner backs department. Makes me miss guys like Kelvin Millhouse who was just under 6’2 but was consistent. I’m tired of our team getting beaten by a corner fade inside the red zone and our 5’9 corners cant make plays because they can’t match the receivers size! I hope they fix this!

  356. palolo January 4, 2012 10:43 pm

I am sad and shocked that Coach Mack did not recruit these local players. I know June Jones didn’t, but I believed Mack when he said he wants the Hawaii players to stay home. If the Warriors just won two more games Mack would still be the coach. Thank you Doris.

  357. PowderPuff January 4, 2012 11:01 pm

Happy Birthday, gmahoney. Hope you had a fabulous day. WOW, ST…that is impressive (Re #351)!!! I hope Leo isn’t too shocked at the facilities. Atherton is the Beverly Hills of Northern California.

My sis lives in that area and said Isaac Sopoaga, along with his wife and other 49ers delivered teddy bears at Stanford Hospital the other day. And give it up for the UH Warrior volleyball team who went to Maunalani Care Home to sing Christmas carols about 2 weeks ago. That is awesome, guys!!! Getting excited for their season to start.

Good medicine for health tastes bitter to the mouth.

  360. Jeezy33 January 4, 2012 11:33 pm

    359. I think it’s a combination of both..

His kids were starting high school and didn’t realize being a head coach can conflict with kids sports.

I’m sure deciding to watch your kids football game versus recruiting is tough but that’s what he is getting paid for.

At the same time, I think he was lost Identifying talent.. Relied too heavily on people he trusted to make offers. Which comes the lazy part in actually making multiple trips to mainland to watch guys play in person, attend camps, etc. sark and Riley make multiple trips to hawaii alone just to attend camps and visit players. Mack didn’t understand the aspect of building trust and a relationship with kids and their families. Just because u offer tabuyo, correa, etc doesn’t mean he constantly keeps in touch to gain trust.

Thankfully, it’s all over now and truth us out… Mack lovers still gonna love but people of Hawaii deserve better if the state is gonna cough up a million dollars on a coach.

  361. Slugger January 4, 2012 11:50 pm

ST ~ Leo sounds like a nice young man.

PP, Atherton is also near the Sharon Heights Golf & Country Club where my college buddy works. While bartending, he gets to hear Willie Mays’ stories about playing baseball.

however we got here, we’re here. i’m thankful Chow Fun is happening to us.

there is an entirely different feel in the air about our coach, his first 2 assistants, and

the attitude their recruits are bringing to most of us fans.

i say most, becuase always gonna get somebody mouthing off for no good reason. if you like that, think about changing your mindset.

IMHO Coach Tuioti needs to sell his value to Coach Chow and say why he is the best value in those areas. Rolo will land on his feet wherever he goes; he’s an incredible talent but once again, as a run-n-shoot guy, and with all of us having unreasonable expectations of the new staff, will Coach Chow be willing to let him learn with the clipboard. I would love to see it happen, Rolo learning at the right hand of Chow, but only Coach can decide if something like that can work.

  373. Adeline Magliocco January 5, 2012 3:43 am

  374. krump1_AKA_protector January 5, 2012 4:58 am

    slenzi on # 373,

You are another one who views Rolo as a glorified grad assistant. It was Rolo who orchestrated UH being the Top Passing Offense (and one of the top total offenses) in the nation last year when Moniz passed for over 5,000 yards (9th best in NCAA history); NOT Norm Chow. He’s played in NFL Europe teams and in Arena football and has been exposed to a number of different types of Offenses (not just the Run ‘n Shoot). He wanted to toy with incorporating a Tight End and 2 RBs in the backfield, but was stifled. Rolo is a genius in his own right; ask JJ and Mouse Davis if you doubt it. You need to recognize it and stop condescending. I would love for Coach Chow to let Rolo stay on as OC and see if they can integrate a hybrid combo or befuddle opponents with constantly changing looks and variations. Chow can then take credit for Rolo’s genius as many HCs do with their talented coordinators. I don’t care as long as Rolo gets to stay. Coach Tuioti too, although I wonder where he’d fit in since they already have a D-Line coach and Chow will be Recruiting Coordinator.

  375. PIAA DS January 5, 2012 5:35 am

#346 like #353 said Stanford is honoring the commit. He was honest, he called the schools who offered him, and told them about his injury, he didnt try to hid anything. Stanford was the only one who said they still wanted him. Gotta give the kid credit, most wouldn’t even take the time to make the calls. He’s a good kid with a good family, and I’d love to see UH recruit him. He’d definitely be good for the team APR thats for usre.

    Ms. Doris,

You hit it right on the head with that thought! I feel, as many others do, that Rolo brings a lot to the table for Coach Chow and vice versa. While he has a dream resume thus far, the fact is, UH may well be Coach Chow’s most enduring legacy. A newer, more dynamic offense than just the RnS or Pro-Set offers is a great way to start. Imagine having the power and size of Pro-Set athletes who can also execute the timing and finesse of the RnS. Ineresting times no? Exciting, definitely!

What’s the rational behind waiting to contact prospects from the recruiting sheet while other schools are engaged with them early? If this recruiting technique did not work, why where JJ and GM set on recruiting that way?

Doing something the same way over and over and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity…

You are correct. Krump and others have suggested the same thing- I think I mentioned that in my post. Just wanted to agree with Doris and others. All of us who follow UH can see the potential for a Chow/Rolo collaboration. In the end, its Coach’s call.

TomMui, I am definitely aware who PIAA DS is.

Ms. PIAA DS – at this point, why is it no longer important to maintain a good relationship with JJ & Mack?

Thom Kaumeyer, no word on his hiring yet. But, I posted a question regarding

his ethnicity – I thought that he is hapa. Found this:

“—— You’ve got some interesting ties to both San Diego and Japan, would you mind sharing some of them with us?

Well, my brothers and I all grew up here in the North County…Encinitas… so I’ve spent most of my life in San Diego. This is where my parents met too…they were both working here.

My mom is Japanese-American and my father was German-American, so we all basically grew up like typical American kids.

After my NFL playing career, I had the opportunity to coach both here and in Tokyo…and a bit later by chance I met my future wife Kayoko who’s Japanese, on a flight to LA. …”
