Kids' Day, myki's birthday

Yesterday’s UH Coaches Camp drew 472 kids (ages 5-12) โ€” more than double last year’s total.
Even more remarkable, as of Friday night, there were only three pre-registered students.
The 469 walk-up campers forced UH officials to scramble for extra T-shirts and Otter Pops.
Members of the UH women’s basketball team helped speed along the sign-ups.
In all, the event, which concludes with this morning’s 9-to-11 session, has been a success.

Safety Leonard Peters, now with the Chicago Bears, worked hard. He taught, performed the slap dance (twice) and then passed out the refreshments.

with that many walk ups the coaching staff must have freaked out! From a disappointing few early registrants to a massive turnout…great for the kids, and the program

our wahine bb players look kinda of short

  6. Ralph July 13, 2008 2:33 am

these kids play pop Warner at this young age? Curran’s son looks to little to be playing tackle football or any brand of football where there is a chance of a collision.

    Ralph-
I’d show that photo of the B-ball wahines to prospective recruits and tell them “Just some of the fellow student athletes you’ll run into in the gym and around school.” Nice of them to step up and help out.

Looks like Florida has lost two of their safeties. d1shima posted an article on the last post about Munroe…add John Curtis too. Tough break for those guys. Looks like this will be it for Curtis since he’s had two surgeries prior to this injury.

Florida safeties Dorian Munroe and John Curtis will miss the upcoming season because of knee injuries.

Munroe tore the ACL in his right knee and will have season-ending surgery. The junior played in 26 games the last two years and was a key contributor on special teams. He led the Gators with 13 special teams tackles last season.

Curtis tore his left ACL for the third time. The senior already had two surgeries on that knee, and coach Urban Meyer said the latest injury could end his career.

Curtis played in 17 games the last three years, including 11 last season.

“I’m confident Dorian will battle through the rehabilitation process and come back a better football player,” Meyer said. “John has suffered through multiple knee injuries, and the medical staff along with John and his family will need to evaluate his long-term future in football.”

Wow, GREAT photos of the kids’ camp, ST! Who took them?

Glad to see Buzzy Preston is doing well. He was always a super nice guy.

Is the Brett Favre situation the epitome of “distraction” or what?

Well, off to Washington DC in a few hours, then to Seattle. Will be away from Paradise for two weeks. Will try to take some pictures of Redskin Park. Would be great if Colt was in them, but….

Did a Jojo yesterday, but today it’s definitely Esme and out.

  10. 99club July 13, 2008 3:34 am

Oops…didn’t read all of d1shima’s linked article. It mentioned John Curtis as well.

  11. Kekoa July 13, 2008 3:49 am

Good Grief!…No can sleep. Woke from a nightmare about fumbler getting back in office over a legal twist of events. JD ends up being put in charge of the SSC and shares the office with the janitor! Yikes! Only thing missing was the cold sweat because the A/C keeps our room nice and cool.

Man, I gotta quit drinking that Gatorade before bed and switch to Hawaiian Punch like Liz suggested.

  12. Garret July 13, 2008 4:06 am

It is great that the camp was such a success! That awesome turnout means that so many of the youth of Hawaii now have a positive experience on UH’s campus with UH coaches…which could pay dividends in the future.

  13. Garret July 13, 2008 4:10 am

Preparing in Atlanta is a great idea–I’ve been to both Atlanta and Florida in the summer and they have similar heat/humidity conditions. So, the Warriors will get to practice and get acclimated to the conditions they will be playing in. Plus, with friendly people around they do not have to worry about spying or people trying to mess them up.

  14. Garret July 13, 2008 4:14 am

Very interesting to read about the injury problems in the Florida secondary! Thank you to d1shima and 99club for bringing it up and discussing the issue. They will find backups who can eventually start for them…but there will be an adjustment period for the new starters and the new guys will probably not be as athletic as the original starters (which is probably why the other guys were starting before they got hurt). The team they play in the first game will probably benefit the most…who is that again?

  15. Garret July 13, 2008 4:17 am

One thing to consider is that a secondary has to be a cohesive unit, since if two guys think that the other guy will be covering someone then a coverage gets blown and a WR runs free…now Florida just has Fall camp to get their secondary to be able to communicate and work together. All it takes is a 2-3 miscommunications between DBs for a game to turn around completely…

  16. Garret July 13, 2008 4:22 am

Wow, I was the last to sleep among the 8 people in my house and have been the only one awake for 20 minutes or so. It is good that I only need 3-4 hours of sleep…let me see if I can go my UH Google stuff before they wake up and I have to be a host again.

  17. Garret July 13, 2008 4:24 am

KGMB has an short article (and video) about the UH camp. I’m sure that Leila’s video would been awesome and she would have had the best and most extensive video coverage…I wish that Advertiser management would get reasonable soon.

Coach Greg Mcmackin and his staff held their first football camp of the summer on Saturday, and the little guys really have a refreshing take on the game. What’s great about the University of Hawaii’s youth football camp is there’s as much learning as there is cheering.

But just because everyone’s rooting for each other, it doesn’t take away from how serious these little guys are about the game.

  18. Garret July 13, 2008 4:27 am

    George Noga update!

Winning will be a bigger challenge than normal for the Wild, who will be battling through injuries and inexperience. Alaska brought just 17 players to Texas, fewer than the 20 Deemer would normally take.

In IFL games, there are eight players on offense and defense.

    Missing in action will be:

George Noga: Along with Tosi, the former Hawaii standout and CFL veteran wreaks havoc on opposing lineman (with 14 tackles for a loss and 10 sacks) but Noga couldn’t make the trip due to work commitments.

  19. Garret July 13, 2008 4:28 am

I hope that Colt gets his contract done soon…training camp is about to start and Washington’s pool of rookie money is almost gone.

Seven out of the ten 2008 draft picks are now under contract. The two names that stand out are wide receiver Devin Thomas and tight end Fred Davis. Davis as you may recall, infamously overslept for a minicamp practice. Quarterback Colt Brennan is the other unsigned draft pick.

Thomas and Davis need to have their deals done and completed in the next eight days. Rookies who hold out of training camp, especially the first one for a new coach, is a recipe for trouble.

  20. Garret July 13, 2008 4:30 am

Another Washington paper mentioned how Colt is one of the 3 Washington draftees who doesn’t have his contract negotiations completed yet.

Only sixth-round quarterback Colt Brennan and Washington’s remaining second-rounders, receiver Devin Thomas and tight end Fred Davis, have yet to agree to terms.

  21. Garret July 13, 2008 4:32 am

Sad to read (but not surprising) how the rising travel costs affect UH.

“I check it every day, as a matter of fact,” UH athletic director Jim Donovan admitted. “I have 100 shares of Chevron, but that is not why I check it.”

Instead the reasons lay at the core of UH’s bottom line, where the Warriors have been staring at travel costs that have doubled in less than a year. When oil prices reached $140 a barrel three weeks ago, UH officials say what had been a $400-$425 airline ticket to the West Coast for each player on one of its teams last year became an $800-$850 fare for the same flight this year.

Fuel that was $52 a barrel in January 2007 hit an all-time high of $147.27 a barrel in trading Friday before settling at $145.08, numbers that underline โ€” for a school that puts all 19 of its teams on planes each year, some of which regularly log 30,000 miles per season โ€” just how precariously perched UH is.

Donovan said the Warriors paid $85,000 to charter to San Jose, Calif., for last year’s game with the Spartans, and $125,000 to Idaho. Donovan said UH was quoted a $319,000 fare for Fresno State this year.

  22. Garret July 13, 2008 4:34 am

I hope that there is no conflict with Iran and that things stay as calm as possible in the rest of the Middle East…otherwise, UH’s travel costs will go WAY over budget. Several analysts are predicting $200-a-barrel prices within a year and “infinite” prices if there is a conflict in Iran.

Donovan said travel for football and the fall sports has either been ticketed or is in the works. But UH is waiting before purchasing most of its fall travel and is budgeting based upon the $140-a-barrel level.

“It is a crap shoot,” Donovan acknowledges. “If oil stays the same or comes down, then, good. But if it rises significantly, then …”

  23. Garret July 13, 2008 4:35 am

Okay, I’d better stop now and take care of stuff at home before anyone wakes up. Hope that everyone has a great Sunday!

    Garret-

I’m guessing the delay with Colt’s contract is his physical. He just got cleared the other day by his CO doc but I’m sure the ‘Skins will want to have their own physical done.

Did a little checking on the injured DB/Safeties…only Munroe was a projected starter. Also saw an article by their local beat writer who was skeptical of the preseason #1 rankings. He’s not convinced their D and special teams are up to the task.

  28. 99club July 13, 2008 5:59 am

Going to the land of bubbling tofu soup this week. I’ll still be a 5 hour time difference but in the ‘oddah direction. Carpe per diem!

Lo Cal Calf Call on Wednesday at Ono Ono’s in Tustin. I figure that Ronnie will post the official notice soon. This will be our first Calf Call in awhile…it will be great to hear about the Bash and catch up with everyone.

  30. Garret July 13, 2008 6:04 am

    99club,

Thank you for pointing that out–I’m sure that you are correct about how the delay with Colt’s deal was probably due to his physical. Before signing any contract with a draft pick the physical is required.

  40. FloridaTed July 13, 2008 7:49 am

    Morning Tsaiko-Nation and Tsai-Meister.

Warms my heart to see all these wide eyed kids full of life and enthusiasm. My grandsons are about that age and just started flag football.

There seems to be a whole new attitude about sports as a whole and football in particular in Hawaii, ever since that magical run of 07 and 08. The Tsaikos have contributed mightily to this trend.

I have a strong feeling that, as a program, Hawaii is about to turn the corner and step into the bigger times for good. This season will be very pivotal. If it turns out that the Warriors will be competitive, which WE know they will, and even contend for a WAC title or better, dispite what the Mainland perceives as a re-building year, we will have made a giant leap forward.

I might even still be alive when some of these little kids strap on a Warrior uniform, lol.

    Have a great day everybody.

  41. FloridaTed July 13, 2008 8:21 am

Did I chase everybody away? I took a shower this morning.

  42. FloridaTed July 13, 2008 8:28 am

The way I see the Florida game is very simple. If our defense can hold them to have their usual production, we will win this game. We have to hold them somehow to under 24 points, not an easy task, but doable. In the second half, with adjustments, our offense will have found their grove. Well, I hope I’m right. echo, echo, echo………

  43. FloridaTed July 13, 2008 8:29 am

    Hey, it’s lonely in Tsaiko-town.

  54. MeiLing July 13, 2008 9:16 am

    Aloha Kakahiaka!!!

I remember from last season that someone (JJ or Colt) was pointing out that knowing where the safeties were was a key to the UH offense with Colt & the WRs. (I think it was after the UW game.) With injuries to their starters and only Fall camp left for training, we might capitalize on that “hole” in the FL defense. (Did that make sense or did I not “get it’? I’m still learning…)

  55. gigi-hawaii ยฉ July 13, 2008 9:21 am

I read that Florida has depth, though…

  56. Stephen Tsai July 13, 2008 9:22 am

The Florida keys (hey, I made a word play) will be the pass rush and their speed. If UH can’t block them, things will be difficult. Training camp will be important.

  57. MeiLing July 13, 2008 9:23 am

Great pics of the Coaches Camp, ST.

More than that, I remember things that happened since I was about 1.5 years old (but not a few minutes ago… tsai). When I was 5, I felt I controlled my own destiny and things that happened to the contrary still influence me today. Meaning- giving a young child a positive experience with something they are interested in can have a lifetime effect.

  77. Stephen Tsai July 13, 2008 9:48 am

    Gigi:
Actually, JJ and McMackin did a great job in 1999.
    JJ changed the offense.
McMackin took the same players and moved them. Cornerbacks became safeties, safeties became outside linebackers, outside linebackers became middle linebackers, middle linebackers became defensive ends.
Without changing the roster, McMackin made the defense faster.
Wait until you see this year’s defense. It will be really fast.

FloridaTed – one of the coolest things I learned about at my previous place of employment was Oral History. I was able to interview the old folks about their lives during the plantation days.

Blogging is like an ongoing oral history.

In the past, history was written and is remembered the way the writers intended.

There was very little connection to the people living in those times experienced life.

So rather than compiling and writing a book – we write as we go. And share impressions as they occur – subject to changing our minds about things in future hindsight, of course!

    5 ea 16oz beer/water cups
    15 each 12.5oz wine/water glass

There is interest in beer mugs and it appears more people want the bigger 34oz mug. Since we have to purchase them in sets of 12, more 34oz beer mugs can be made. I will not make more of the 25oz mugs unless I can get 12 orders.

For those on the mainland or outerislands, if you want to to order, I will add on the postage to the cost of the glasses.

Email me at tsaikoparty at yahoo and I will put together a list of what needs to me made.

Great article by Ferd Lewis today about the energy conundrum facing the Athletic Department. If you have connections with companies large enough to be corporate underwriters, then please ask them to step up.

There’s another definition besides esme & jojo, but it seems to only apply to two people – a blogger and a bff – so no need to add it to the vocabulary list even though it is used on a regular basis by foolks but not on the blog itself.

  124. Long Time UH Fan July 13, 2008 11:49 am

An excerpt from a midweek newspaper re:Donovan: The Right Man in Manoa

For all the creative financing and beating the bushes for donors, the financial success for the athletic department rests simply on the teams’ ability to draw fans and have them return. Stan Sheriff liked to say that fans vote with their wallets and, as strange as it might sound on the surface, the newest person responsible for bringing in those people wants to add some Disney magic to the business of UH athletics. It’s nice to see that his failure to become a member of the Electric Light Parade as an Anaheim teen has not left him bitter.

“At the end of the day, when you see people leave Disneyland they have created a memory. The kids are tired, everyone is tired, but everyone had a great day. Everywhere you go you don’t see trash, you see people who care. Can we get them done overnight? I’ll be the first to say no.

“It’s like turning a supertanker. You’ve got a big department with 19 departments and a bunch of personalities, so you start turning the wheel and maybe four, five, seven miles down it starts to turn.

“Well, I’m sitting in that room turning that wheel, and I have a lot of people helping me,and we’re gonna get people to understand that this is where we are going. They are going to be a part of it, and when we get there everybody will be prouder and happier.”

  125. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER July 13, 2008 11:59 am

LTUHF- very nice re: Donovan. Goes with what Papa said about the “people” – the ones who “pay the freight”.
The team at Manoa made the biggest impact on me just by showing up in solidarity. The Chancellor, the AD, the HC, the Legislator, the Press. Those elements need to be on the same page in order to get the people to buy the paper.

It was impressive. With unity and the intention to do what is right, we’re talking win-win. imho

    LizK,

Like I’ve said earlier, there seems to have developed a tangable shift in attitude throughout Hawai’i about sports, but more so for the Warriors. The magical 07 and 08 years, have shown all of us how this team can contribute to the well being of an entire State. Everybody appears to have realized that we CAN be in the big time, but also that it needs all of us to succeed, from corporations to the single fan, sitting in the end zone in the nosebleed section. The Tsaikos have a big hand in this spirit and I see it breaking out all over the Islands and even spread across the Mainland. We will get there and this season will be really special.

If that happens, the entire football season may go out the window along with a lot of other things in the nation as a whole.
I have stated before that I don’t want to see political commentary on this blog, but since it relates to Warrior football, in that sense; everyone has to really take a look at how they vote this year. That assumes that it even takes that long before things unravel in that region.

    5 ea 16oz beer/water cups

There is interest in beer mugs and it appears more people want the bigger 34oz mug. Since we have to purchase them in sets of 12, more 34oz beer mugs can be made. I will not make more of the 25oz mugs unless I can get 12 orders.

For those on the mainland or outerislands, if you want to to order, I will add on the postage to the cost of the glasses.

Regarding the discussion regarding the high travel costs and how it affects UH, there is *one* airline that does not suffer from the high gas prices. Due to some fancy hedge price technique, Southwest pays something like $2 per gallon for fuel while the other airlines pay well over $4 per gallon…and if oil prices go up the other airlines will pay more while Southwest will stay with their low price until 2011!

This is NOT a free play link because it directly affects UH. Southwest is planning to take advantage of their edge in fuel costs by expanding, even to Hawaii! Southwest can offer low prices to Hawaii because of their low fuel costs, which could really change the travel market to Hawaii–the other airlines could either match the prices (and hope that they do not go bankrupt with all the money they will lose) or charge more and see if anyone flies on them.

Kelly, 53, has an enormous advantage over his peers: about $2 billion that Southwest will gain this year from complex financial hedges he put in place to offset rising fuel costs. As oil prices hit the stratosphere, Southwest’s bounty continues to grow while airlines without similar hedges buckle under the financial strain.

โ€œThat $2 billion allows (Southwest) to keep fares lower than they otherwise would,โ€ said Vaughn Cordle, CEO and chief analyst of AirlineForecasts LLC, a Virginia-based market research firm. โ€œThat’s a strategic decision that forces other airlines to match fares and lose significant amounts of money, or retreat. So Southwest wins the war of attrition.โ€

Next up: Mexico, the Caribbean and Hawaii, not necessarily in that order, through code-sharing pacts to be rolled out next year and possibly into 2010.

Nice to read about this Samoan festival in San Diego.

When North County Samoans gather for their annual heritage festival, it’s always filled with foods and music from the South Pacific.

But more than anything else, organizers of the weeklong cultural celebration that ended yesterday hope the events help Samoan-American youths grow up with respect for the past and a vision for the future.

โ€œWe have to teach our kids to live right,โ€ said Sam Papaliimarino of Oceanside, who attended the festival for first time with his son Jack, 3. โ€œI want my son to know he’s Samoan and Hawaiian. . . . The culture of the islands is that the dad and mom are the example.โ€

The cultural celebration lasted all week, with faith-based services, musical performances, athletic competitions and various contests. Organizers estimated that 500 people participated.

โ€œThe point is just to let our youth know that there are things that will help them in the future,โ€ said Casey Malauulu, one of the event planners. โ€œI have seen kids go down the wrong road, and it’s not easy to recover.โ€

  248. stacyj July 13, 2008 9:54 pm

Yippy, I just found out my niece had a baby girl! Another good one born in July. Happy birthday all the July born Tsaikos. Although, I don’t think my new niece will be a tsaiko, her grandpa played for Boise (via Kamehameha).

  249. stacyj July 13, 2008 9:56 pm

Pauoa Boy: Are you military? I small kine confused…blonde that’s why.

  250. stacyj July 13, 2008 9:57 pm

Aunty Liz, when do you sleep?

  251. Pauoa Boy July 13, 2008 9:59 pm

stacyj – You know you can always corrupt your niece into bleeding green and becoming a Warrior Tsai-ko ๐Ÿ™‚

I have the same problem with my bro-in-law who instead of Boise is a BYU kitty cat guy…grrrr!!!

  252. chawan_cut July 13, 2008 9:59 pm

jm2375, sorry i didn’t have a chance to meet up with you yesterday. we were surprised by the turnout. we had a constant crowd all day long.

  253. Kekoa July 13, 2008 9:59 pm

  255. stacyj July 13, 2008 10:02 pm

OMG Chawan, I knew legos could make things but holy moly. I’m impressed. I can barely make a castle with mega blocks for my kids.

  256. stacyj July 13, 2008 10:05 pm

PB, much respect. Thank you is all I can say!

  259. stacyj July 13, 2008 10:08 pm

Did Calvin from Kona attend the blog bash? I didn’t see any pictures of him. Haven’t really seen him on the blog much.

  260. Pauoa Boy July 13, 2008 10:09 pm

stacyj – Mahaloz and have you ever written a bio either?

  261. Kekoa July 13, 2008 10:10 pm

99club ~ Regarding your earlier post…My son returned from Korea after their 2 week tng gig. He packed and shipped his box of goodies. One of his staff members packed an extra suitcase. The civilian charter they flew (on orders) charged this guy nearly $200 for excess baggage based on weight. Was it because they were all Majors, and it was hate Majors day?

  262. Pauoa Boy July 13, 2008 10:10 pm

    Yups Calvin was there…

  263. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER July 13, 2008 10:11 pm

  268. Unkanesson July 13, 2008 10:16 pm

    Hi folks,
Just stopped in for one last taste of blog before hiamoe.

Garrett – #231 – Reminds me of a quote attributed to Winston Churchill:
“The greatest argument against democracy is a 5 minute conversation with the average voter.” Something like that…

    ‘Night all.

  269. stacyj July 13, 2008 10:17 pm

Thanks Liz. They named the baby after my niece’s sister who passed away this Spring in a car accident. (just 22 years old and was so excited to become an aunty). Did you ever finish that quilt for your Lilu? I never saw finish pictures.

How come I am feeling like I’m pulling a gigi…talking about personal stuff and totally off topic.

  270. stacyj July 13, 2008 10:17 pm

Thanks techies…my font is now larger than life itself!

  271. Jason July 13, 2008 10:17 pm

First, the blue sea of death. Then, everything shrank. Then, everything turned tiny and white. Now, it’s varying between the three.

  272. Pauoa Boy July 13, 2008 10:18 pm

midori7 – thanks yups let mom know he finally pop the cherry ๐Ÿ™‚ plus I think he was still wanting the digits from her bwahaha j/k Anyway, was nice seeing you at the Bash, nice knowing I have an extended family of hotties ๐Ÿ™‚

  273. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc July 13, 2008 10:19 pm

I just posted something in response to StacyJ and Tom Mui’s earlier comments – and it never showed up.

Wonder why? Will write it again off-line and then copy and paste it here

  274. stacyj July 13, 2008 10:20 pm

I thought HA techies don’t work on Sundays. Now I know what y’all were talking about when you mentioned the sea of blue. Did I jinx us by mentioning Boise?

  275. Pauoa Boy July 13, 2008 10:21 pm

stacyj – are you wearing a muu muu too? Aiyah… ๐Ÿ™‚

  276. stacyj July 13, 2008 10:22 pm

PB, no bio for me. I’m a little fish in this sea of Tsaikos. There are more worthy folks of bio sharing.

  277. Pauoa Boy July 13, 2008 10:23 pm

You may have mentioned Boise but I think we’re just getting SMU’d for some reason…

  278. Jason July 13, 2008 10:24 pm

WassupDoc: That happens to you way too much. Copy the text that you’re typing every so often, and again before you hit Submit.

Wow, the whole Web site is going nuts.

  279. myki1 July 13, 2008 10:24 pm

Midori, I forget the DVD of the Miami of Ohio game the night of the bash. Will bring it at the next gathering. Sorry.

  280. stacyj July 13, 2008 10:24 pm

PB, be nice. How many 30 somethings do you know that wear gigi muumuu??? Not to mention, my kids would have a field day hiding underneath…no thanks!

  282. Pauoa Boy July 13, 2008 10:26 pm

  283. Pauoa Boy July 13, 2008 10:29 pm

  287. Stephen Tsai July 13, 2008 10:34 pm

I think the techs did an outstanding job.
    They always do.
    Now they have to stop.
    Stop tinkering. It’s fine.
Go work on Midlife Crisis or Scene It.

  288. Pauoa Boy July 13, 2008 10:35 pm

Oye, sorry last name rhymes with thing except put a c instead of the t. I know you’re blonde but hope you unnerstood that nah nah j/k…

  289. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc July 13, 2008 10:35 pm

STACYJ AND TOM MUI: On January 29, 2008, HB 3025 – RELATING TO INCOME TAX CHECK-OFF was heard by the House Higher Education Committee. It would have provided an income tax check-off for an unspecified amount to be divided as follows: 50% equally to the 10 UH campuses; 25% to UH Manoa and 25% to UH Hilo Athletic Departments. The idea behind this was to give something to all campuses so that all legislators would have something to take credit for rather than just focusing on Manoa and athletics.

The Committee deferred the measure on January 31. Nothing further happened.

If there is any interest in getting a income tax check-off bill next session, building support needs to start much earlier than January 14 which is when the idea was first brought up. Tax and money issues are always difficult to get even a hearing, let alone passage, but sometimes it take several sessions for something to happen.

  290. Pauoa Boy July 13, 2008 10:36 pm

ST – Never knew you were into Paula Abdul, wassup with that?

  291. JaM July 13, 2008 10:37 pm

  292. JaM July 13, 2008 10:40 pm

PB: I heard him loud and clear at Genji’s but can try yeah!?

  293. stacyj July 13, 2008 10:41 pm

PB, had to read it twice. Scary! I use being blonde to my advantage…tease all you like but as my husband says, I go for the jugular, so consider yourself forewarned. j/k. K, I going back to make request.

Wassup Doc, thanks for the info. I personally would love to see something like this happen. If the $$ goes to a good cause that the UH could use wisely, I can check off a box for $1.

  294. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc July 13, 2008 10:41 pm

TINY PRINT AND CENTERED TEXT WHEN, ACCORDING TO JASON, THIS PROGRAM DOES NOT ACCEPT CENTER CODING? wHAT’S GOING ON HERE.

  295. stacyj July 13, 2008 10:42 pm

isn’t there a Paula Abdul impersonator at that Waikiki show? Hum….

  296. Stephen Tsai July 13, 2008 10:43 pm

    Pauoa Boy:
She had me at Straight Up.
Anyway, I thought her first album was really good.
    Now my kids love it.
    And she’s a great choreographer.

  297. Stephen Tsai July 13, 2008 10:45 pm

    Re: Paula Abdul impersonator.
That’s just wrong. She’s not at the Barbra Streisand/Cher mockery stage.

  298. stacyj July 13, 2008 10:46 pm

W-Doc, on PC I think you can ctrl + to increase text and ctrl – to decrease.

  299. Stephen Tsai July 13, 2008 10:46 pm

It’s weird but my font is OK.

  300. stacyj July 13, 2008 10:47 pm

  320. stacyj July 13, 2008 11:10 pm

Haha, my sister in law’s son is Keanu. There are a couple of Keanus in the Reeves ohana. The actor never comes to family stuff but he is starting to keep in touch with some of his Reeves cousins.

  321. Pauoa Boy July 13, 2008 11:11 pm

al – does those replays only come on back home or is there some online site with streaming video of past games can watch. I know during the season there is a site you can pay to have streaming video of current games can watch, just wondering…

  322. Stephen Tsai July 13, 2008 11:13 pm

    Howzit Gangeez!
I haven’t been able to log on the WB since yesterday, but thanks to Scott of the Tech Squad, I’m back!

    Happy Birfday, Myki! ๐Ÿ™‚

I understand that my post yesterday, stating that I was going to the beach, was possibly upsetting to some here who were overcome by the visuals. I say, next time don’t think about it if you aren’t strong enough to go there! ๐Ÿ˜† Besides, we went early in the day to a spot so remote and secluded that WE coudn’t even see me. A couple of sharks came by and asked if I was the beached whale carcass; I sent them off to Kahuku a few miles up the coast from us.;)

  327. stacyj July 13, 2008 11:16 pm

Oh, one more thing…ST, does this mean you’re getting ready to post something new. I’ll definitely lurk when done.

  328. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER July 13, 2008 11:17 pm

staceyj- I haven’t finished the quilt yet. Daughter sent it back to me before they left for Portugal but I have been very busy lately. I’ll get it done to take back there for the OSU game.

Cool about the Reeves connection. I like Keanu – he reminds me of my #1 son. I especially liked the movie he made near my hometown- Lake Geneva. I used to go to Yerkes Observatory for field trips.

    Nitey nite all!

Oh- Pauoa Boy- Rich2176 is a neat guy. His wife is ST’s classmate.

The parent company of gigi-favorite Beck’s beer just bought Anheuser-Busch, the parent company of Budweiser. From what I understand InBev will try to sell SeaWorld (owned by Anheuser-Busch) since they do not want to run a theme park…I wonder who will buy it.

  370. Garret July 14, 2008 4:40 am

Current and former BSU players just had a charity softball game, which I think is a great idea. Ryan Clady (I’m glad he’s not with BSU anymore) was actually ejected from the charity game.

Clady was tossed from the game by the umpire after arguing a close call at first base. Speedy receiver Austin Pettis beat out the throw to first and Clady came out of the dugout bumping the ump and trying to pull first base out of the ground.

wuz readin da odda paypah this a.m., about the SB$. I feel Virginia deserves our full support and backing on this one. One the one side, had the stuff heads, alwayz say no can no can. On the other, she had JJ and crew, and HF meelymoutjin. Da bottom line is: she chose us. Cannot go back to da past, do tings again. She knowz get us, and we supporting JD, and she’s on our bandwagon.

There is no such thing as perfect. There is such a thing as a good heart, a positive vibe, and working hard to kick their a$$e$ on behalf of Warrior Nation.

    Nuff said.

This is the same news that was already reported by Ronnie but found it very interesting that ESPN would put it as one of their headlines. Never seen a 6th round pick get that kind of coverage.

gigi- Colt supporters are saying the Redskins do not give 4 year contracts to people who are not going to be around for awhile. I’m guessing that they will get more than their money’s worth when Colt gets a chance to get up to speed and on the field!

    W_DOC:

An income tax check-box for UH would be a good idea. It will raise money for the UH – after all $500-700k is not exactly loose change!

Of course you have to take into consideration that our population is around 1.2 million which includes children and others who do not pay income tax and people who may not check the box.

This assumes the legislature doesn’t cut the UH budget by that amount!

I wonder how much money it will cost to administer the check off box?
I understand that the IRS people spent about $1.00 per person notifying them that they should be getting the economic stimulus checks and another $1 encouraging us oldies and others to file their taxes to get the ES checks.
(I spent mine buying a couple of tanks of gas).

  407. gigi-hawaii ยฉ July 14, 2008 8:05 am

aren’t iphones expensive? what is it now, $500?

my cell phone cost just $10. it is a samsung and I have Tmobile service. Just use it for outgoing calls in my car.

  408. marlis July 14, 2008 8:07 am

U2B Baller and all parents of young ones that went to UH Coaches Camp

Listening to Coach Mack on the radio last week, he mentions that building the infrastructure (his words) of the future of football in Hawaii,”we have to start with the young kids”. And he goes on to say that the infusion of both teaching the kids the fundamentals of football and the importance of having the kids do well in school the coaches, parents and mentors ingraining this concept gives them a head start. This is so true. Even as I listen on the radio I can feel the excitement exuding from Coach Mack when he talks about the ‘keiki”.

Some of these kids we’ll remember this weekend for the rest of their lives. And future cars, iphones and xboxes, all material things, will soon have been forgotten years from now…and I’m thinking not this Football Camp…ever. Seeing Coach out there and his assistant coaches, guest coaches and former UH players helping the kids and images of all the other kids being excited will be remembrances for the kids that I believe are priceless. And motivating. And open the youngsters mind which is really important.

Kids will talk to their friends about this past weekend. And pickup football games may take place. And tossing the football with Dad would be fun. Some kids will write book reports about the Football Camp. And other kids will come away in awe of the tall buildings, dorms and the campus.

This proliferating effect, where you see an increase in numbers, shows that the parents are buying into the idea that these camps (like stepping stones) may help their sons chances of gaining an eventual football scholarship. And to others I believe, probably the majority, let’s have the kids have fun. And absorb the ambiance of the UH successes…and I thing this is great, too. And I think it’s great and idealistic of Coach Mack to have these camps because in my opinion it’s so instrumental in so many other aspects than only thinking that it only open the young kid’s eyes only to football.

Morning Gang, catching up from earlier…

Good news for bruddah Colt…funny reading the comments on the ESPN article, little do they know I tell you. Oh well, in a year or two when he unseats Campbell, they’ll stop talking “unko” and take notice what we all have been spoiled with over the years…

#341 – Me back out on a date with Paula, yeah right, what was he thinking ๐Ÿ™‚

#344 – Hmm…I think Artest would be a better fit in LA, but Odom in Sac dunno. Don’t care for the Kings though, never did.
