NCAA clears Rausch

BOISE — The good news is the NCAA reinstated quarterback Brent Rausch, deciding that he should not be penalized for a clerical error. (He punched in the wrong code on an eligibility form in August.) The bad news is the decision came too late to help Rausch, who was left behind on this trip to Boise.  Jake Santos replaced Rausch on the 65-player roster.

I think we set a record for getting a record. Two hours into our trip in Boise, we received a parking ticket. After checking into our hotel in Meridian, we drove to downtown Boise. We parked in a metered stall, threw in 43 minutes worth of change, then went in search of a restaurant. We asked a meter maid for a recommendation. At her suggestion, we had lunch at a “saloon” above a Starbucks. After we finished, we walked back toward the car … and that same meter maid was giving us a ticket. It’s all Stretch’s fault. Things went downhill when the UH flag he attached to the back-row window fell off and landed on the asphalt.

Happy birthday to Ronnie.

And happy belated birthday to A-Sports.

    Happy belated Birthday A-Sports!!!!!!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes! Aaron asked what I wanted for my birthday. I said, “A win this Friday against Boise. Please ask your class (all 4 of them) to pray for a win!” He said he’ll put it up on the prayer board! 😀

Happy early Birthday to my brother Ben!!! His birthday is tomorrow. Kind of like being twins but 2 years apart.

When we were growing up, we always had to share a cake on his birthday. Neither one of us liked that much!

    Happy Birthday Ronnie!

I hope that you get an awesome birthday wish tomorrow at the game!

  42. KonaGirl October 16, 2008 5:43 am

    Good Morning Everyone!

Kind of a rhetorical question, but how come they were allowed to “re-carpet” the turf in blue? I thought it was an NCAA rule that all fields had to be green. I know the blue is “grandfathered” into that rule, but it sure seems like when it comes time to “replace the rug” it should be replaced within the NCAA rules.

Another thought…if their blue uniforms blend perfectly into the turf, then we should have UA make our green uniforms the exact color of most green turfs….

GO WARRIORS!!! (is it Friday yet?)

  43. Garret October 16, 2008 6:11 am

Interesting that ever since they celebrated in the end zone against Florida, Georgia is the most penalized team in D-IA college football. They even seem to have a bigger problem with personal foul penalties than UH has.

Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but probably not. Ever since Georgia’s silliness in the end zone last season against Florida, the Bulldogs have gone from ranking as one of the most disciplined teams in the country to whatever they are now.

Whatever they are now isn’t pretty, by the way. They are the only Division I-A football team in double digits (11) when it comes to the average number of penalties per game. They have more penalties overall than anybody not named TCU (67 to 64). They also have an absolutely ridiculous number of personal fouls (13) after six games.

  44. Garret October 16, 2008 6:15 am

Interesting statistical analysis that found that the team with *more* penalty yards won more often than the team with less penalty yards…this trend is true for every conference, for nonconference games, and for bowl games. That result surprised me.

  45. Garret October 16, 2008 6:18 am

    Nice feature article on Sol.

He enjoyed a successful prep career that hit its stride during his senior year, when he amassed 125 tackles and 9.5 sacks, while being named to the all-league, all-city, all-area and all-region first teams, to the all-state second team and the MVP of the Coliseum League.

For Elimimian, though, those awards could not compare to the moment he signed with the University of Hawai’i to play football. He considers signing with UH his greatest accomplishment as a high school player.

Ironically, he also considers that moment one of his unhappiest.
Elimimian, a devout Christian, says he prayed for direction in choosing which college to sign with. When he felt an urge to attend the University of Hawai’i, he was filled with questions and doubt.

“[Coming to UH] wasn’t the decision that I really wanted, but it was the decision that God had for me,” he said.

  46. Garret October 16, 2008 6:19 am

    Feature article on Coach McMackin.

Many of the BSU players haven’t forgot their run-in with the Warriors last season who had upended them in their season finale. Hawaii chanted “WAC Champions.” It was something that has haunted the Broncos leading up to this clash of conference titans.

“Oh yeah,” BSU senior linebacker said. “That got under everybody’s skin. We’re fired up. We’re ready to get these guys.”
It isn’t something that the Warriors have forgotten either. Their recent success hasn’t made them forget what the Blue and Orange represent.

“Obviously Boise is really the class program of the WAC,” McMackin said. “They’ve won the WAC for many years and everybody strives to have their programs like Boise State. They’re a very well coached team. I think Chris Petersen does a great job.”

  47. Garret October 16, 2008 6:20 am

Article on the improvement by the Warriors.

After a rough start to the season, the University of Hawaii football team has rebounded with a pair of nice wins.

The Rainbow Warriors beat Fresno State on the road two weeks ago, then handled Louisiana Tech at home last Saturday.

Part of the reason for Hawaii’s success is due to the play of junior quarterback Inoke Funaki. He’s eighth in the league in total offense per game despite not having started every game and he’s thrown five touchdowns.

  48. Garret October 16, 2008 6:25 am

One last article and my boss will force me back to work…

“They are the WAC champs, they went into Fresno and beat them right away,” Boise State head coach Chris Petersen said. “They have some weapons, no question about it.”

Boise State’s offense struggled, to say the least, last week against Southern Miss. All of the Broncos’ points came in the second quarter and were shut out in the second half for the second time this season.

Though Petersen was displeased with the offense and their inconsistency, it did not take him long to get over it.

“I am already past that game, we’re onto Hawai’i full speed,” Petersen said. “They have a lot of playmakers who are really starting to come on.”

  49. chawan_cut October 16, 2008 6:34 am

i’ll also be out in that crisp blue boise air with ronnie, d1 and the rest.
i wonder if Stretch’s vantage point will be better than Stephen’s?? it’ll be definitely more comfortable. Maybe Stephen can switch booths mid game. wait, maybe i’ll pay stretch a visit at halftime.

  50. Stretch October 16, 2008 6:35 am

“nice sunny day in the high 60’s” MY ARSE!! just the chill getting off the plane was damn cold. I think it’s in the 50’s.

  51. expat October 16, 2008 6:39 am

    Brew

I thought Purdue was private as well. Like I said, sometimes it isn’t as apparent as you would think. In their facts and figures they claim they are the 26th ranked public university in the nation. They call themselves “state assisted,” whatever that means. They have a resident tuition rate.

I didn’t realize Auburn was public. Or Marshall. Guess I don’t know much.

  52. Garret October 16, 2008 6:42 am

    expat,

I’m sorry that I couldn’t think of those conferences regarding your question yesterday. I can’t believe that I forgot about the WAC having only public schools! I actually looked at the Sun Belt Conference and thought that one school was private, but I guess I was wrong.

  53. Committed Road Warrior October 16, 2008 6:46 am

    How’s everybody doing this morning?

Happy Birthday to Ronnie. Hope to see you at the game tomorrow.

Today’s a travel day for me. It’s off to Boise (via Portland). Unfortunately I won’t get there in time for the walk-through (is this open to the public?), and I’ll more than likely be down for the count once I get to my hotel room. I might go hunting for some food, but other than that today is gonna be a travel day. Nothing much planned once I get into Boise.

  54. Committed Road Warrior October 16, 2008 6:49 am

Tomorrow’s high in Boise is projected to be 72 degrees with a low in the mid-40’s. Not bad…..because all I brought for additional warmth was a thin sweatshirt.

    Bwahahahaha!!!!!

  55. chawan_cut October 16, 2008 6:49 am

    stretch,
can you warm up boise before we get there? and i don’t mean just the bar stool…

  56. Maverick October 16, 2008 6:59 am

It feels like x-mas eve to me this morning, and manana is the BIG holiday.
Hope A-Sports & Ronnie gave out a special B-day wish for a Warrior win.

Ain’t it amazing that it took this long of an era to hold a practice session on the game turf? What color mixes with Blue to make Green? Once I find out, my lenses are getting a dye job before tomorrows kick off.

  57. Addahknowsports© October 16, 2008 7:21 am

    !!!!!!!HAPPY BIRTHDAY RONNIE!!!!!!!
    😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
Wishing you a wonderful day and week. Hope you get to have your own cake and eat it too. Hope we get a victory win over the blue boys. Wishing you a safe journey and return.

    Hi Wena-

Thanks! Good to see you posting. Gotta catch up with you on the school stuff. So when are you gonna make it out to one of our Tsaiko-gates? I think you and the kids would have a blast!

    Mav- blue+YELLOW makes green 😉

    Hi Wena, Hi Sports!

  63. King Katonk October 16, 2008 7:41 am

    Happy B-Day Ronnie,

You don’t look a day over 29. Have some in “America’s forehead.” I’m sure you’ll make enough noise for entire Warrior Nation. Just ignore all those folks who give you grief. There is a reason why they are bitter. All they got is a blue field while Hawai’i has an entire blue ocean.

    Prediction…Warriors 24 / BSU 21

The “Iceman” will seal the game.

  64. Ronnie October 16, 2008 7:41 am

    Committed Road Warrior –

Hope to see you at the game tomorrow.

    Aren’t you sitting with us?

  65. wena October 16, 2008 7:42 am

One day I plan to make it to one of those Tsaiko-gates. That would be …how many hours in the sun? But I’m sure I’ll have fun with everyone.
Steve was talking to me about the Las Vegas game next year, but I told him that is my sisters 50th birthday. It’s tempting tho.

  66. Ronnie October 16, 2008 7:42 am

Thanks for all of the birthday wishes!

I went to Party City last night and bought some green mini megaphones. 😈 Now I can be even louder!!!!

  67. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER October 16, 2008 7:43 am

One more thing- re “crowd control” – cute article about Colt’s starting QB (video version) shushing the crowd on offense…
    http://theredskinsblog.com/2008/10/16/video-jason-campbell-quiets-the-crowd-effectively-is-appropriately-auburn/#more-2027

Maybe Vili can teach our fans how and when to to “soaring eagle” as well as “pump it up”!

  68. King Katonk October 16, 2008 7:44 am

    Ooops I meant to say…Have some fun…..

but not too much fun 😉

“Part of the reason for Hawaii’s success is due to the play of junior quarterback Inoke Funaki. He’s eighth in the league in total offense per game despite not having started every game and he’s thrown five touchdowns.”

This looks to be the breakout game for Hawaii. If UH wins this one, all will be well for the rest of the season. Go Warriors!

  78. Kekoa October 16, 2008 8:25 am

Good Morning Tsaikos Everywhere Around the Globe and Up Your Street!

I never get tired of wishing Ronnie a Happy Birthday. It seems like the more birthdays she celebrates, the younger she looks!

Oh and Ronnie ~ You should have bought 65 ‘stick’ horsies at that Party supply store. Give each Warrior one to ‘ride’ onto the Lil Pony field.Bwhahaha!

  79. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 16, 2008 8:27 am

    morning Tsaikos,

Hey Stephen Tsai, where is Graunke in the depth charts and what are the rationale/reasoning?

anyone else going to genji’s tomorrow?

  80. Kekoa October 16, 2008 8:31 am

While we are on the subject of Blue Smurf Turf, (we were?) how come dey can, and we no can?

I understand that they ‘grandfathered’ the rule about field coloring. But my Grandfather is dead, and all others eventually die. So should the rule, when the stadium turf is up for replacement again.

  81. midori7 October 16, 2008 8:32 am

    Morning Tsaikos!

    Happy Birthday Ronnie!

to the traveling Tsaikos: keep warm, be safe & cheer plenty!

    GO WARRIORS!

  82. J-Dog October 16, 2008 8:38 am

we should make our turf black and call it the “lava field”.

  83. Pride. October 16, 2008 8:41 am

Poor Ronnie. She’s going to be exhausted on friday night. It takes a lot of work to stand-up 40 times and shout, “it’s another Warrior first down”. Ronnie, remember, “RICE”. Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation for those sore legs. Maybe all of the Tsaikos, no matter where they are watching, should do their part, and do the same excersise. Genji’s, T-Spot, Murphy’s, Bayview, Al’s House, Ige’s, Champions, Eastside Grill, the Shack, Donovan’s skybox, it doesn’t matter. Everyone in unison should stand up and shout, “it’s another Warrior first down”.

Koakane better stay seated though. Usually by the start of the game, he’s already had too much fun and may fall flat on his face if he chooses to participate in this activity.

  84. Kekoa October 16, 2008 8:42 am

…and since Kekoa (that rascal buggah) brought it up…how come it wasn’t kept as a rule?

Whoa, now wait just a damn minute Kekoa! First you say kill the rule, then you axe why not keep ‘um? WTF??

Behold! If the NCAA voted to keep it…then the Washinton Huskies could have had a purple field and the USC Toejams could color theirs crimson and clover. Many of the colleges and Universities could add more color and pagentry to college football across the fruited plains!…or NOT!

So tell me again…how is it that only Boise got to keep theirs?

  85. jm2375 October 16, 2008 8:48 am

  91. addahknowjoe October 16, 2008 9:17 am

Stretch- you know she’s getting a good laugh with her friends bck at the station over your demise:

“can’t believe those out of towners from hawayah fell for the, ‘eat here/park there’ ploy again. Works everytime! Haaag gug gug gug gug…”

    Happy Birfdey Ronnie! =)

    Stretch-

I can’t…no wait…I can believe that you’ve gotten yourself in trouble already. Ayaaah! Come home safe okay? And that goes for the rest of the traveling Tsaikos. Safe journey to all.

  95. Bulla October 16, 2008 9:29 am

    Stretch,

go down to a toy store, buy a few smurf dolls, string them up with some twine, and twirl them around your head

when in smurfland, do as the smurfs

  96. madeinhawaii October 16, 2008 9:30 am

    Happy B-Day Ronnie.

Feels like Friday already… but then that would make it one heck of a long wait till game time.

Kekoa! You okay, braddah? Overdose? You sure you haven’t been partaking from that stuff growing on that “Seeded”-land you keep ‘reefer’-ing to?

  97. expat October 16, 2008 9:31 am

    Kekoa

I think the smurf turf was fairly recently replaced – like a year or two ago – so it might be a while before the question comes up again. OK, just looked it up and it was replaced in ’02. Interesting that they are on their fifth field surface since the stadium opened in 1970 and the first few were green.

    1970 Green (Astro Turf)
    1978 Green (Astro Turf)
    1986 Smurf (Astro Turf)
    1995 Smurf (Astro Turf)
    2002 Smurf (Astro Play)

So looks like they will be due for a new surface in the next 2 to 3 years. Time to start lobbying to make them go back to green.

  98. Kekoa October 16, 2008 9:34 am

jm2375 ~ The Tsaiko CSI team is on da case. In fact, they just called in with a good question. “What island did the crime take place on?”

  99. Stretch October 16, 2008 9:36 am

to carify, ST is driving, I am in the back seat. when we picked up the rental car, the white UH flags were immediately flown. only when we parked downtown boise did we take it down.

time for a quick nap before the walk thru later today

  100. Bulla October 16, 2008 9:40 am

    Stretch,

is it easy with ST to find mauka and makai, and diamond head and ewa? tell him that GPS does not stand for Good Portuguese Soup! 🙂 🙂

Here is a sampling of Jim Stafford for the uninitiated. It goes along with our Rodeo week in Pony land. A little chit-kicker music.

  104. Kelli October 16, 2008 9:52 am

Ohayoo! Does anyone have any cold remedy suggestions? I need to get better quick so I can enjoy the game tomorrow. Thank goodness I don’t have class on Fridays — lots of time to prepare for the game.

  105. g-nalo October 16, 2008 9:52 am

i’ll also be out in that crisp blue boise air with ronnie, d1 and the rest.
i wonder if Stretch’s vantage point will be better than Stephen’s?? it’ll be definitely more comfortable. Maybe Stephen can switch booths mid game. wait, maybe i’ll pay stretch a visit at halftime.

since Stretch will be more comfortable, maybe Stephen can have Stretch draft his report? oh wait……that would be work………….

  106. madeinhawaii October 16, 2008 9:52 am

“You get this young offense going and they start believing and it’s real easy to be streaky,” senior tailback Ian Johnson said, alluding to a starting lineup that includes three freshmen and two sophomores. “And then one of the problems with a young offense is when something does go wrong, when we used to have older guys hunkering down and saying we’re just going to get this done and rallying behind our old offensive line, now you can start getting guys getting worried. Guys start thinking too much and not just reacting to the game.”

There’s our key. Hit em fast.. hit em hard.. get to the young quarterback and breathe down the throats of the freshman receivers. Tip the ball.. intercept… sack.. and make them go to the ground game. Their inexperienced O-line will be man-handled by our Warriors. Boise has been shut out in two second halves this year. Warriors can do it!!

    Go Warriors!

  107. g-nalo October 16, 2008 9:59 am

good morning Tsaiko’s here, there, and in Boise, Idaho.

too bad tomorrow afternoon isn’t a holiday, or is it?

Hawaii 37, Bruised State 35. Hawaii wins by a safety off a blocked punt.

  108. Maverick October 16, 2008 10:04 am

Hmmm. Smurf doll on a string.? That works.

As a kid, growing up in Hockey land, used to put a rubber chicken on those tiny, telescoping fishing poles and take them to the games.
Who can cast the furthest over the safety glass and onto the ice, then reel it in faster than the ref can chase it.

imagine the hate and discontent they’d have with us then.

    stretch,

  118. chawan_cut October 16, 2008 10:51 am

just looking through my old pictures and found this one.
    http://picasaweb.google.com/chawancut/Boise08#5257853280173883522

i forgot that they were going after colt’s knees the last time we were up there. sure they said they weren’t, but that picture clearly shows it. i recall colt even mentioning it afterwards. gotta watch out. they claim to be clean, but yeah right. they know funaki’s a runner, so they’re gonna try to him hard and unecessarily. hope karl’s refs aren’t biased tomorrow. but no worries, inoke’s a kahuku grad, and he can take some hits.

also, the last time i was up there, i took this. their stadium isn’t the largest. i think it can old 35K. i know they did some upgrades, so we’ll see what it looks like now. maybe they just put in a bunch of luxury boxes (i’ll ask stretch what they’re like).

Ronnie: Well yes, of course I’m sitting with you all. How did I forget? I must not have been fully awake at the airport.

Looking at the overcast weather in PDX, it looks like I get to ride on the Wazzu logojet to Boise.

    Kind of ironic, eh…..

i bet that meter maid set her timer on her watch for 44 mins. walked over to your car with 2 minutes to go and just counted down the seconds. i bet she even pre-wrote the ticket.
did she smile and laugh evil-like as you walked back to your car?
is this what rival fans do?

Some people are going to Genji’s, but I am not sure about the quality of their tv sets. Perhaps SteveM or one of the other regulars can cue us in.

Others are going to Murphy’s. .

Am checking out BayView Golf Course this afternoon to watch a couple of innings of the AL playoffs. It’s not likely I’m going to be in Kane`ohe tomorrow afternoon, but one never knows.

ESPN1420’s official party tomorrow is at Champion’s, but there might be some folks watching at Ige’s as well as well as Eastside Grill and Big City Diner – all locations

RE the Spam controversy. PETA does not object to animals being used as food sources as long as they are raised and slaughtered humanely. They object to Hormel’s methods in both areas.

There are other reasons to reduce animal flesh consumption to less than 2 lbs a week: The impact on the overall environment stemming from the release of methane gas which contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions and global warming; the impact on human health by reducing bad chloresteral & high blood pressure as well as the chances of being diagnosed with diabetes, more than a dozen different cancers including ovariarn & prostate, glaucoma, and arthritis.

Reducing meat consumption to two pounds a week also provides a slow, but steady weight loss over time even if nothing else changes like exercise habits or reduction in consumption of starches & sugar. Studies have shown that reducing meat consumption – not eliminating it – plus preparing it without added fats can help reduce weight by as much as 25 lbs in a year.

Back to sports. GO RAYS!! And, of course, go Wahine and Warriors. Both teams have huge stakes on the line.

  124. Da Punchbowl Kid October 16, 2008 11:09 am

Greetings and Blessings Warrior Nation!!! 🙂

Happy Birthday to Ronnie and her grapplin’ brother, Ben. I remember Ben from way back when.

A big aloha to the wayfaring Tsaikos over in the land of Smurf and Pony! You guys be good! Or should I say, don’t get caught?! I think your presence in Spudville assures that the curse of the Smurf Turf will be broken, so make sure yah represent loud and proud!

Sooooo Stretch, are you just gonna take the old “park over there and you’ll be fine” trick laying down?! I say, payback is a b*tch, surely there must be some way you can return the favor to Ms. Potato-head. Have a few “adult beverages” and think about it, I’m sure you’ll come up with something. (Hahaaaa! Nothing like instigating the the instigator…) If you can’t think of anything, just call Colonel Kekoa at Command Central, he can prolly come up with a mission for you.

  129. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc October 16, 2008 11:19 am

    Kekoa:

The way to start the campaign to force Boise to use green turf is to write to the NCAA. Include in the letter a request for information about filing a formal complaint and who can actually do so – fans, coaches, athletic directors, university presidents, etc. Then, once we know how to start the process and who actually has standing, then the next steps can be planned and initiated.

Frankly, I suspect that fans are the ones who are least likely to have standing. If that proves to be the case, then we need to bring in the Athletic Department administration and perhaps someone from the chancellor’s office as well.

Have to go to a meeting and then to watch baseball and then to the Hawai`i International Film Festival this evening. Last night’s documentary about kamikaze pilots was certainly an eyeopener. It’s going to be on PBS sometime next summer so I’ll let folks know when it’s coming up.

Am dropping more copies of the LaTech game in the mail later today. If anyone needs copies of Fresno State & LaTech games or wants a copy of the Boise State game, please let me know.

  160. Garret October 16, 2008 12:25 pm

    Uce5,

Thank you for the note and a belated welcome to the blog. I know that you are a big Inoke supporter–I don’t know if you read the blog before the season, but I have been a big Inoke fan since last year. I thought that he improved a lot last season as compared to the previous season and thought that he would be hard to beat out for the starting job this season. I know that there were some struggles to start the season (all 4 QBs struggled so it wasn’t just Inoke), but he’s done an amazing job the last 2 games.

This looks to be the breakout game for Hawaii. If UH wins this one, all will be well for the rest of the season. Go Warriors!

I agree. I honestly think that the winner of the game will at least share the WAC title. I know that SJSU is undefeated in conference now but I think they will have problems with depth (especially on the OL and DL) as the season goes on.

  161. Kekoa October 16, 2008 12:25 pm

Kazz put me in quote mode…

Some people try to find things in this game that don’t exist but football is only two things – blocking and tackling.

    Vince Lombardi

  181. Kazz October 16, 2008 1:14 pm

Tomorrow’s contest has all the elements of a sporting event in which every single sports-related cliché will be used.

There is not much one close to this situation can say anymore. By all accounts and by assumption, this game is already lost for us. But the beauty of athletic competition allows for a 180 degree turn for the better of the underdog. Hawaii has NEVER had any favors or help from influencing sources and tomorrow will be no different. We may have the reputation of being an undisciplined team, but tomorrow is the best time to be defiant.

We must stand defiant in the face of arrogance.
We must stand defiant in the face of adversity and biased officiating.
We must stand defiant in the face of those that already counted us out.

WHO GIVES A S**T WHAT WE DID AT FRESNO STATE?

    TOMORROW WE PLAY BOISE STATE!

Tomorrow’s enemy is an enemy that is sore, bitter, and angry about last season and they have every right to be, but we must stand on our belief that last season was NOT a one-time thing.

Tomorrow, every reaction NEEDS a greater response!
If they hit, we aim to cripple.
If they run, we aim for a knockout.
If they cry wolf, we SHOOT the wolf.
If they come out with speed, we come out to take the air out of their sails.
If they punch us in the mouth we must rip their heads off and s**t down their throats!

All that aside and in our minds, we must respect our enemy. If we fail to realize the power they have on that sideline, we have already lost this game as quickly as we can win it.

I don’t know what lies in store for us tomorrow and neither do they.

All I know is that it all starts tomorrow in 25 hours.

In 27 hours we will have a better idea of where we stand.

In about 28 hours, regardless of the outcome, we will know what kind of Warriors we really are.

  187. Garret October 16, 2008 1:24 pm

Interesting how fans contacting recruits via their MySpace or Facebook pages can be an NCAA violation.

That’s why Meyer reaches out to some of those recruits via online social networks such as Facebook and MySpace. Maybe, he reasons, if a recruit sees that students from a certain school who aren’t associated with the athletic department take the time to initiate a relationship, it might influence that recruit’s decision on where to attend.

“When you follow recruiting, you wish you were the coaches going into the houses and telling kids about the tradition,” Meyer said. If coaches can’t recruit through social networks, he added, “students can do it.”

Innocent as Meyer’s intentions may be, his actions constitute an NCAA recruiting violation, one schools cannot protect against and one the NCAA cannot closely monitor. Meyer is not the lone culprit by any means. Many top football recruits in the class of 2009 contacted for this story said their Facebook or MySpace accounts have been bombarded in the past year by friend requests and messages from fans across the country. Numerous top men’s basketball recruits in the class of 2009 have a following on social networks, as well.

Current students cannot serve as representatives of their schools’ athletic interests and thus are not allowed to contact recruits, according to Stacey Osburn, the NCAA’s associate director of public and media relations. In fact, NCAA rules state that any individual who is known or should have been known by a member of a school’s athletic administration to be “assisting in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes” qualifies as a representative of that institution’s athletic interests. Therefore, any fan with a social networking account could possibly cause a violation, not merely those currently enrolled at a school.

“If a school found out this was going on, it would have to self-report it,” Osburn said. “The NCAA then would look at the situation within reason.”

Interesting discussion about the splits taken by the OL.

This doesn’t always come up, but one of the most interesting games within the game in football are the splits between the offensive linemen. Some teams use a lot of wide splits, with as much as three to even six feet between linemen, while others keep it closer to roughly a foot, or even toe-to-toe. But like everything else in football, what kind of splits you take is informed both by what the defense does and what your philosophy is.

BSU’s bowl game will now match the WAC (most of the time BSU) vs. the MWC.

The Mountain West Conference has landed the fifth bowl berth it has been wanting.
The MWC and Western Athletic Conference announced today the two conferences have agreed to meet in the Humanitarian Bowl in Boise, Idaho starting with the 2009 season.

  191. Garret October 16, 2008 1:27 pm

So, the MWC now has 5 bowl tie-ins and the WAC has 3 bowl tie-ins. I hope that the WAC can get another bowl time-in, as having just 3 means that deserving teams will get left out each year.

The MWC’s other bowl agreements are with the Las Vegas Bowl, the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego and the Armed Forces Bowl in Ft. Worth.
The WAC has an agreement with the Hawaii Bowl in addition to the Humanitarian and New Mexico Bowls.

Update on Oregon State. I’m surprised that Jeremy Perry cannot get another season due to medical hardship…he didn’t play against UH and I don’t think he’s played in a game since then.

we’ve received a couple emails about Jeremy Perry. .. repeating, Perry has taken a step backwards, according to Riley, and after practicing two weeks with no problem and looking like he could play some, he wasn’t healthy enough to dress down for Wazzu. … Perry might be done (Riley didn’t use those words) … and Riley said Tuesday during the Pac-10 conference call he didn’t see any way for the one-time pre-season All-America offensive lineman to get another year.

Finally arrived in Boise and all checked in to my hotel room and everything.

I was talking to the airport shuttle driver during the ride to the hotel and he was telling me that the officiating crew is staying at my hotel…..about half of them are already here and the rest should be arriving pretty soon.

Perhaps the most interesting thing I saw on the ride to the hotel were these three guys standing at the intersection just before you turn into the hotel. The shuttle driver pointed out to me that those three guys were part of the officiating crew.

One of them was wearing a BRACE on his left knee.

Yeah, its another bowl tie-in, but its with the 5TH ranked MWC team. What a let down. If UH goes to the Hawai`i bowl and Benson State U does not reach a BCS bowl, they could have one loss and face a .500 crap team. BONUS!…not.

Leon Wright-Jackson has outstanding speed and agility, yet he seems lost as a running back in the system. His bouncing around the line looking for an opening can only get him so far.Why not use him to return kicks, where he’s out in the open field and can use his blazing speed? And I think we’re last in the nation in returning punts – why not use him there too? Ryan Mouton is being overused having return kicks and punts and too valuable to the defense to risk injury. What do you think?

    ahouse,
listen to garret. he is correct that as long as we don’t get to a bcs bowl game by virtue of our finishing 12th or higher in the bcs bowl rankings and we are bowl eligible, winning record that is, we will always play in the hawaii bowl.

well, as long as we are in the wac. which seems like where we will stay put for a long, long time.

oh, unless ourselves and some others finally do get together and are accepted as a new bcs conference. although that too, is highly unlikey since the greedy bcs folks don’t want to split more pie with anyone else.

With that said, is there any streaming of tomorrows game?

In about five years from now, all the BCS BSers, the University President etc., all the ones who are opposed to a play-off system right now, because of short sighted greed, will bow to future pressures from networks and the so called lesser Universities and a bunch of smart people and realize the huge amounts of money left on the table with the stupid BCS.

Once they get to this point, the entire NCAA league system in Div. 1a will be re-aligned into only 8 x 12 team conf. with the champions playing off as Nr.1 seats. None of the other bowls would be eliminated and the current BCS Bowls would hold semi-finals and finals. Some teams would be re-classified as 1aa again, as it should be.

This system will be fair to all and would generate about five times as much as the BCS now. Just my two cents.

  276. Nalani October 16, 2008 3:34 pm

Ref: Kazz’s post #182, it reminds me of something Coach Malloe said when he was guest speaker at KS Basketball Banquet last year shortly after being named as a new Coach at UH. He said that as a player, when others walked, he jogged; when they jogged, he ran; when they ran, he sprinted. He said it’s that kind of effort that will make you successful at anything in life. So should it be tomorrow. We need to outwork and outplay them in every aspect of the game, and do it for 4 Quarters. If we do, we will win.

Also a note on Coach Malloe, he has a tendency to be overly enthusiastic and head butt the players after big plays. Unfortunately, they have helmets and he doesn’t, creating some nasty head cuts on occassion. Gotta love a coach with that kind of passion. That has to trickle down to the players too.

  277. homey ∅ October 16, 2008 3:35 pm

  278. A-House October 16, 2008 3:35 pm

    Florida Ted:

Like your post and agree that some point in the near future, the college football scene will be changed and the “BCS” system will be scrapped.

Believe some of the current BCS school Presidents have already broached the idea of change, but the Michigan AD, the all mighty powerful, is still against the idea. Why? Simple, he will lose all his current power and be a nothing again.

Can some one refresh my failing memory on the reason(s) why the BCS was created.

Also, Congress questioned the “monopolistic” features of the BCS and the millions of dollars received by the conference schools versus the other conferences. ESPN also is a co-culprit in this venture as the station to carry/sponser nearly all the BCS games. What happened the ABC and the rest?

chawan_cut: I AM drinking green tea! I’ve been chugging this stuff like crazy cuz no mo’ miso soup.

jm2375: Does green tea count? I should probably drink some OJ, too.

  287. da princess' classmate October 16, 2008 3:58 pm

Saying as byu probably takes out utah in the finale, that leaves da donks in the drivers seat. so we either take them out tomorrow, or in all likelihood get a small portion of their bcs $$$. rather take them out, go warriors.

Hmm, so some people do recommend green tea, because of the antioxidants. But most of the stuff I see online mentions ginger-lemon-honey tea, which is what I usually drink. That, and orange juice and chicken soup. 😀

Hope you get better, Kelli! (And stay away from me please, haha.) 😛

so i guess brashton’s shoulder is more of a big thing than it was first thought.

i’ll bet he gets in the game though.

24 pts. that is a lot for anybody to give a team that beat fresno state on the road. i seriously thought that the spread was gonna be about 13 pts.

i guess our last two wins have yet to convince the odds guy’s that we are better than we looked at florida and corvallis. if thats the case then 24pts smells good.

but, if they have caught on and maybe they think bsu is that good. hmmmm. much to ponder.

al: Zinc!!! OMG, my mom used to get me the chewable kind when I was small. Better go get some of that.

Mix everything according to your taste preference.

I forget what this is called, but the alcohol and the heat relaxes you and allows you to get some sleep.

    Al,

My friend thinks that with having Elimimian go back to the middle and having RJ outside it will allow for “more” plays for A. Leonard. Plus, there’s no learning curve there as that is Sollie’s old position.

However Brashton WILL indeed see time. He’s too good and too tough not to play.

Coach Mack said he plans on using four LBs, of course it could be more depending on Brashton’s availablity.

  325. Kazz October 16, 2008 5:51 pm

    Ralph,

What happened to Utah? Doesn’t the MWC still have them as a “lifeline” or did I miss something and they lost a game?

  326. wafan October 16, 2008 5:51 pm

    Something to think about.

Since BYU cannot get into a BCS type bowl game the only team left with a hope is FSU. Would you be willing to give up all that extra cash to see the Warriors beat them? Or is the cash more important?

Hmmmmm. Win or cash. Cash or win.

Sort of like that old joke, “Give me your money or your wife gets it!” Then you stand there and think about it.

As for me, I take the win and bragging rights. Besides I really want to see the FSU fans turn a nice shade of blue to match their turf.

  327. Calvin from Kona October 16, 2008 5:53 pm

Don’t forget Utah and Boise State. One of these teams go undefeated and I’ll bet they go BCS.

Warriors better have their game faces on. watch the trick plays, quick snaps while we’re substituting, quick throws to the wide receiver while we’re calling the defensive play, reverses (I call 3) oh heck, watch out for the muddle huddle.

Boise doesn’t just want to win..they want to destroy us! If they do…with a couple losses ahead of them and Boise could make the top 12.

GO WARRIORS…you get chance…but you better play smart!

  328. wafan October 16, 2008 5:53 pm

at least half of these teams will lose two more games between now and the end of the season. If Boise State wins out (hopefully not after tomorrow) and Utah wins out…one of them will go to a BCS game.

  333. Calvin from Kona October 16, 2008 6:06 pm

Boise win so we get BCS cash…nonsense! If Hawaii beats Boise, we’ll probably bring in more money with tickets sales to more fairweather fans coming to the remaining home games. Nope…I’d rather beat Boise State than get any amount of money.

So will someone pass this message on to the refs? I’d hate to see another home team having a game with no penalties.

  334. madeinhawaii October 16, 2008 6:15 pm

Kekoa… I made a boo boo.. was Homey that had that #222 at 2:22 … and now that I had time to think it over. I think you are right. Was the Powers Above’s way of saying to Homey.. “Go catch a cab!”

  335. Kazz October 16, 2008 6:16 pm

EXACTLY. I think I’ve grown tired of this “Support Your Conference” crap a while ago.

It’s all for one and one for all.

No one will even give us a level “field” to just play so I saw screw them!

Just like when FSU won the College World Series… I’m a Hawaii fan so I could give a rat’s A$$ about that.

People wanna say that their win would “mean a lot to the conference”. Well what? BSU went to the Fiesta Bowl and won an awesome game and what did that do to the WAC? NOTHING.

We went to the Sugar Bowl and Colt was a Heisman finalist. What did this do for the WAC? NOTHING.

Again, we must worry about OUR Ohana at home first before anything else.

“No one will help us, we must help ourselves.” – Keala Watson

I stand by my prediction of:

    UH 37
    BSU 35

FINAL 2nd OT with UH being assessed 4 P.I. calls, two “running into the kicker” calls and three “unsportsmanlike conduct calls ONLY because the officials in the FSU and the LaTech game were not able to give out their required “Hawaii allotments”.

If I sound like a whiner, then pass on the cheese, no one can HIDE the facts!

I’m p***ed, I’m irritated, and I wanna crack some heads and smash some faces!

Unlike that Math whiz from Salt Lake, I am much more concerned about your well-being. It’s ok to be critical, or inject a little levity into an otherwize contentious campaign season. Thank you for doing that.

May I also suggest that you talk to your plants, as the experts have recommended. Therein lies the secret to growing very healthy and beautiful plants.

Apparently her son was offered a chance to play for JJ, and the deal was cancelled faster then she could spell ‘violation.’ Now she prowls the streets of Boise on game week looking for Hawaii fans for revenge. Stay away from Stretch & ST, they are marked men.

  350. Mrs. A-House October 16, 2008 7:14 pm

    Hi Kekoa –

Whew! I’m back in good graces with you, my dear friend. I am genuinely relieved. Now I can enjoy the rest of my evening. 🙂

  351. Kekoa October 16, 2008 7:15 pm

A-House ~ Mrs. A-House stopped singing? Hmmm, was she singing in english or Karaoke?

  352. Mrs. A-House October 16, 2008 7:20 pm

    Stretch –

If you’re still lurking… would appreciate a detailed description of the “terrific meal” you mentioned in post #342. When a connoisseur of fine cuisine like yourself is pleased with his meal, my curiosity is peaked.

Glad you are rip-roaring and ready for battle tomorrow. No scared ’em, GO GET ‘UM!!

  353. Kekoa October 16, 2008 7:20 pm

ST ~ I forgot to mention that in your opening sentence above, you said that the wrong code was punched. Never say that word near Kazz. His lightning quick, short jab and powerhouse punch will put you right on your ‘Kun-dingy’ if you do.

  354. Mrs. A-House October 16, 2008 7:25 pm

    Kekoa –

No kidding…when I offer to sing for my family, their replies often sound like this… “ummm, no thanks Mom…not now”. Then, when I start singing anyway, they burst out laughing. Therefore, I can only assume that quietly watering my plants daily is the ONLY reason why they appear well on their way to flourishing. I’m relieved.

  355. WarriorMojo October 16, 2008 7:25 pm

Kekoa, you seem to be in a great mood these days. That other thing you wen talk to me about is okay now?

  356. Mrs. A-House October 16, 2008 7:31 pm

    Kazz –

Thanks to you and your passionate and gung-ho posts in BOLD print, I am psychologically ready for the game tomorrow. If someday you really need beefy back-up, I got your back…literally, you lead the charge and anyone left staggering after you administer the first punches, I will finish them off with my singing loudly in their ear until they beg for mercy and accept defeat. 😀

  357. expat October 16, 2008 7:33 pm

Why is it that it always feels good to see BYU lose? Oh, yeah, I remember.

Don’t forget Ball State and Tulsa. They are also both still undefeated. Anybody who runs the table has a legit shot at a BCS game. The polls won’t be able to ignore teams that are 9-0 late in the season, especially when top ten teams like BYU get spanked… It isn’t like BYU has had a tough schedule so far either. This was their first game against a FBS team currently holding a winning record. They squeaked by Washington… a team that is locked in a bitter battle with Wazzu to hold on to the PAC-10 cellar. Sure, they destroyed UCLA, but UCLA has been in and out of intensive care all season.

  358. Hawaiianbod October 16, 2008 7:36 pm

Jason – i was in your neck of the woods today (Salt Lake Shopping Cenyer). Was looking for a place for lunch, but didn’t find anything interesting. Saw an establishment called “Yum Yum”. How would you rate their food/value/ambiance? Any other eateries in the area you would recommend?

  359. Hawaiianbod October 16, 2008 7:40 pm

    Cenyer=Center

  360. FloridaTed October 16, 2008 7:41 pm

BYU is a typical example of pre-mature hype with all this BCS talk. I don’t care what conference anybody plays in, it is darn near impossible to go undefeated in any league. BYU was ranked much too high all season anyway.

Anybody who stays undefeated deserves to go to a BCS Bowl, including Hawaii last year.

Utah will lose at least one game also. Boise’s only real obstacle is Hawaii. If they win, big if, they have the best path to stay unblemished. Conference Championships should always be the Nr.1 goal, the hell with the BCS, let’s beat Boise or at least make them earn it in a tough battle.

Off course, hype brings eyeballs to TVs, but it would behoove any team to win their Championship first, then worry about BCS BS.

  361. Mrs. A-House October 16, 2008 7:42 pm

    Midori7 –

I hope I win…fairly and squarely, of course. It’s a really nice looking authentic jersey, folks. Good luck to all who enter/entered the contest.

vote for ESPNews to go more in depth about our game tomorrow.

its us vs 3 hockey games

    http://sports.espn.go.com/chat/sportsnation/poll/index
then click on ESPNews in the left column.

we’re already leading the pack, but doesn’t hurt to vote more.

  364. koakane™ October 16, 2008 7:56 pm

au’wryte midori this is my prediction

How many times will UH run the ball? 37

good evening tsaikos how you all doing, welcome back to vagabond JJ. sorry to hear about S and S with rita da meta maid. like I said before it is not strange that Boise State has dem initials. 😮

  370. SteveM October 16, 2008 8:48 pm

ST — thanks for the pix. The blue field looks even darker than before…wasn’t it replaced last year?

  371. Stephen Tsai October 16, 2008 8:52 pm

By the way, that was not the real Gigi-Hawaii.

  372. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER October 16, 2008 8:53 pm

    whoosh!

    Hi All!

STEPHEN- You are probably sleeping but- get one typo: “Warrirors a chance to get acclimated.”

  374. NEO October 16, 2008 9:04 pm

Folks, question… The other blogs on this site are being moderated… Why not this one? I’m not trying to be an instigator, but I don’t think this moderation thing is fair… I also think that it penalizes those of us who are genuine… punish the lot for the idiocy of the few… I don’t buy it… what do you guys think? Just wanted to know… I’ll go away now…

    NEO

  375. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER October 16, 2008 9:05 pm

ST- dang, I thought gigi was back and showing off what she learned in Heather-Mack’s class… 🙁

  376. jm2375 October 16, 2008 9:17 pm

    Good evening Tsai-kos!

IS IT FRIDAY 2pm YET? GO WARRIORS!!!!

Man, I wuz hoping da Rays would finish off da Bosox tonight. As a lifelong fan of da hapless Orioles, I’m really tired of watching da Yankees and/or Bosox win year in and year out. Da 2 Boston boys at work will be happy campers tomorrow, esp I think they’ve already given up on da Pats.

Kekoa – all da hoops have been jumped thru with da insurance company. now to get an estimate.

  377. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER October 16, 2008 9:20 pm

NEO- if the blogs start to die off because of the moderation, mgt. may have to re-think the policy. Moderation of this blog would take too many shifts of people working w/o a contract and, frankly, we have demonstrated the ability to be self-correcting.

  378. Kelli October 16, 2008 9:26 pm

Thanks again everyone! I’m going to bed early. I need to be in the best condition possible to watch the game tomorrow. I’m running a fever, too. 🙁 Stupid vog!

jm2375: I tried the saltwater. It helped for a little while. 🙂

Jason: Never tried making ginger tea. Maybe if I had some ginger I would. LOL!

al: Some of my relatives call (called) me Kelli Girl. 🙂 I’ll try to pick up some lozenges tomorrow.

  379. Jay October 16, 2008 9:26 pm

    Kazz,

Always a pleasure to read your inspiring poetry!

    Jay

  380. cocobean October 16, 2008 9:28 pm

At some point the Warriors will have three runners in the game. Inoke QB, Pilares FL, Libre-Wright Jackson RB.
    Guesses:
    1. 32
    2. Libre
    3. 60

  381. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER October 16, 2008 9:28 pm

    Vog is bad!

  382. NEO October 16, 2008 9:30 pm

Liz- Thanks for the clarification… Now if we only could get that same clarification on the officiating tomorrow… 🙂 FRIDAY IS GAME DAY!!! P.S.-Ms. Kelli: PLEASE get well… green tea w/ lemon and honey and a half jigger of jack daniels works wonders! 🙂

  383. Jason October 16, 2008 9:41 pm

Mrs. A-House: No worries, we’re all friends here. 🙂

Hawaiianbod: Don’t bother with Yum Yum. I go there out of desperation, when I want Thai food. I always get their green curry; I give it a C+. Yum Yum’s main location is downtown, near the corner of Hotel St and Bishop St. Go to Phuket Thai instead.

NEO: I don’t like any of this moderation. The HA guys are wise not to put any moderation stuff on this blog, cause it generates so much traffic that would be lost if the post screen were put into effect. But yeah, it’s not fair to any of the other bloggers, who have to take more of their time to moderate all of the comments. And it’s not fair to the readers, most of which are civil and respectful of each other.

I also find it ludicrous that the blogs are being moderated, while the news story comments are full of hatred and other disgusting things. All of this makes no sense. I hope they change their policy soon enough.

  384. madeinhawaii October 16, 2008 9:46 pm

No wonder… I guess all that sudden outpouring scared the new Gigi away… oh well…

  385. Jason October 16, 2008 9:50 pm

  390. Mike Wedge October 16, 2008 10:05 pm

BSU will not be going to the BCS… their loss to non-ranked Hawai’i October 17th, pushed them outta the rankings and dashed their conference title hopes.

  391. Kekoa October 16, 2008 10:05 pm

Ryan Mouton can punt…run down his own ball, strip the return man and take it to da hale!

Liz, remember…I made a similarly impossible prediction at the La Tech game, and it happened exactly how I said it would!

  392. Jason October 16, 2008 10:09 pm

Jim needs to wear a different color aloha shirt. And Robert … I told you on Monday, suck it up like Lono Manners! Shorts and T-shirt brah! 😛

Knew that BYU would lose and am ready to cheer Utah on to BCS game! They just need to get by both TCU and BYWho!

Kazz – Love, love your enthusiasm!

Happy Birthday Ronnie! Gonna give you a Warrior win so that you can really celebrate! Start looking for those tickets to the Cincy game! Then it’s on to the football banquet with the WAC champs. Guarans SJSU is going down!

  397. Jason October 16, 2008 10:25 pm

Rob25: Are we SURE it’s Ronnie’s birthday? Bumbye we go Facebook, and it says November 3rd. 😛

  398. Stephen Tsai October 16, 2008 10:26 pm

Well, we had a pretty good night.
    Bobby Curran ate elk.
    “Ferd” had buffalo.
Rich2176, Stretch and I had prime rib. (If my daughter’s reading this, make note that I had a salad, too. And I took my meds.)
And Liz Chun had … chicken.
And, of course, we topped off the night with a 1:30 a.m. run to Wal-Mart.
    Ah, life on the road.

  399. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER October 16, 2008 10:26 pm

jm2375- I jut got my silver Prius back from the body shop. Had two sets of dings – one from a family member and one from an unknown parking lot encounter, I think. Had to pay TWO deductables because there were 2 causes on 2 dates…

    Tsai.

  400. Jason October 16, 2008 10:31 pm

Anybody want me to calculate the expected value for a claim on their insurance policy? (Yeah, just had a test today. Our professor uses questions from the probability test for actuarial students.)

  401. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER October 16, 2008 10:31 pm

ST- sounds yummy! I love bison and I heard elk was very good.

Please keep the game blog unillustrated so the guys at the game and on phones can refresh quickly… ok? pretty please?

    GO WARRIORS!!!
Buck… er… we’re not doing that this year, right?

    GO WARRIORS!

  404. Rob25 October 16, 2008 10:34 pm

    Jason

    😆

Ronnie didn’t even realize that it was like that on her Facebook. 😯

Hey it’s always fun wishing people Happy Birthday anyways. It seems to be an issue with the Tafoyas. 👿

Buffalo and Elk 😯 YUCK! Too gamey for me I would think…I’ll take the Prime Rib with ST and Stretch!

  405. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER October 16, 2008 10:34 pm

BG and Betty- will pray you get home in time to watch the game!
    Bon Voyage!

  406. Kekoa October 16, 2008 10:35 pm

Oh Liz *THAT* big weekend! Yes, and no. I’m escaping my house/hotel to go watch the game at K-Bay with BM and Curveball.

Tons of family flying in from everywhere, but few are dedicated Warrior fans. Imagine, they actually came for the wedding! Bachlorette party tonite has all the men worried. They are all so insecure.

No time for the halau to practice the songs and the dances, so it’s gonna be very impromptu. More fun that way. Kaipo’s stressing cause no mo room to put the friends he never thought would fly in from Monterey, and they have no ground transpo either. Oh…it’s so chaotic at Keoni’s what with babies screaming and mothers yelling for dads to help…haaaah, marital bliss.

Liken it all to feeding time for the Tsaiko’s when the dinner bell rings! I try to keep my distance, so as not to get trampled in the rush for all the local grinds they have all been deprived of for years!

With Diana’s sis, like I said last night…I try to keep her calm and offer relaxation therapy for her scream level 10 headaches.

Kimana?…he went for his Tux fitting today, and then went surfing to stay away from the build-up of stress from his cousins.

  407. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER October 16, 2008 10:35 pm

Rob25- bison is way less gamey than beef and way less fatty! The native americans knew what was good eating!

  408. Jason October 16, 2008 10:37 pm

    Rob25: That’s what Ronnie says … 😉

And don’t forget the salad with that prime rib. And horseradish — it’s a vegetable, after all!

  409. Rob25 October 16, 2008 10:37 pm

    Oh and Rich too.

Sorry Rich, didn’t mean to leave out the good luck charm!

  410. Jason October 16, 2008 10:38 pm

And yeah, buffalo is really good. You should try it.

  411. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER October 16, 2008 10:40 pm

    Thanks for the update, Kekoa!
Uku-boi is chatting and yakking… a little while ago he says “Brie says hi” 🙂

I’ll be in town for Rotary on Sat. and going home Sunday…bah… traveling during the ‘Skins game… but I’ll be wearing the XXL CB5 jersey/dress 😆

  412. Kekoa October 16, 2008 10:41 pm

BG ~ Make sure that you do call. I’ll come pick you and Betty up at the Term. Wisk you home, and if you are (ha!) up to it, we head over to watch the game.

  413. Stretch October 16, 2008 10:42 pm

ST forgot to mention the dedsserts that everyone had. I seen a few apple cobblers, pumpkin pies, bread pudding, mixed berry cobbler and some strawberry thing. oh yeah, robert “I’ll go out on a limb” kekaula had vanilla ice cream. it was a perfect way to end a very enjoyable dinner.

time to go sleep so I can wake up tomorrow and get ready for the game.

  414. Rob25 October 16, 2008 10:42 pm

Liz – I just might have to try that then…someday.

When we were stationed in Okinawa, they served Ostrich burgers. I never did try but some said that it was less fatty and tasted like beef also. I wonder if it is the same as when everyone says that things taste like chicken. 🙂

  415. jm2375 October 16, 2008 10:42 pm

ST – remember a Foster’s commercial years ago? “How to speak Australian”. Picture a huge steak. Hand places a sprig of parsley on top. “Salad” 😆 BTW – ketchup and fries qualify as veggies. 😀

  416. Rob25 October 16, 2008 10:46 pm

Stretch I would ask you to make an “Aloha Rob25” sign, but not sure they could see from that “special” box you will be in.

Maybe Ronnie will carry the sign we made for the FSU puppy game. 🙄

Oh, and don’t forget to yell “It’s another Hawaii…first down!”

    Good night all!

    GO WARRIORS!!

  417. Kekoa October 16, 2008 10:47 pm

Dat boi was lucky to have such a good girl to hang out with. Brie is a very mature young lady, and JaM has done a wonderful job of guiding her along. I hope that they will eventually learn to appreciate the same kinship we all share.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

    what’s on the menu?
well pulehu stuff and burgers broiled over a kiawe grill of course.

    okay, what kind of burgers?

    angus burger
    kobe burger
    buffalo burger
    ostrich burger
    venison burger
    pork burger

they tout themselves as the 1st kiawe grill fast food restaurant in the world.

    ahhh. lucky you live hawaii.

    Kekoa

In case you’re still up…won’t be calling you tomorrow. When we got to the terminal, we were told that the flight never came in. Tentatively rescheduled for tomorrow evening…we’ll see.

  437. al October 16, 2008 11:52 pm

we will survive the friday night lights by….

scoring twice by way of special teams and/or by the defense.
and we play mistake-free beating bs in their own game.

stevem….two pounds of tanioka’s finest gets you in the door.

hmmmmm… would you settle for 21 Mart?

  439. al October 17, 2008 12:00 am

do you think that bs will start believing their own hype?

do you think that bs sees that 24pt spread and starts believing it?

do you think that most folks had written off this hawaii team a few weeks ago?

do you think that we are still underrated?

do you think that coach mack has his team believing that they are a very good team?

do you think coach mack has removed the “prima donna” syndrome from the team and has them all pulling for each other as one team now?

do you think that coach mack has done his greatest works over the past seven weeks?

if you answered yes to all of the above, then go bet the house!!!

  440. al October 17, 2008 12:01 am

    where dat 21 mart?
is that the one on school street?

  441. SteveM October 17, 2008 12:04 am

Al — yes, School street. BTW, you have a Sony Bravia, right?

  442. al October 17, 2008 12:04 am

tanioka’s has the best lomi ahi poke.
    the best alae ahi poke.
the best king clam (yes robbie, the geoduck) poke.

    i guess begger’s can’t be choosey?

  443. BG October 17, 2008 12:07 am

Betty saw the fumes coming out of my ears and hustled me out of the terminal before I tore that ops sgt a new one. Calmed me down by reminding me that the game is going to be on here. We’ll be watching!!!

    GO WARRIORS! GELD THAT BRONCO!

  444. tommui October 17, 2008 12:09 am

AL is right – kiawe grill is GOOD. Can’t say that much for Burgers on the Edge except that their fries are good.

  445. al October 17, 2008 12:10 am

well, there’s ac, a sony, but not as big as a 52 incher. yah, i am a couple of inches short, its a japanese tv you see. it is in hd. it is accompanied by a surround sound system that the boss only lets me use for football.

the carpets are fairly new. we don’t drink beck’s but their might be a light beer or some imported stuff in green bottles. no more karaoke though.

you gotta like dogs, big dogs. cuz they enjoy the indoors and there are three of them. they won’t bite unless you spill your poke on your lap. they will beg all through the game.

  446. Ralph October 17, 2008 12:14 am

is the game on basic ESPN or ppv gameplan tomorrow….

  447. al October 17, 2008 12:20 am

bg….some day if you haven’t already, you will thank that lovely wife of yours for saving your okole. ahahahaha.

i have been stuck in airports before i know the feeling.

  448. SteveM October 17, 2008 12:24 am

Al — how about I bring a roomba and help you do laundry tomorrow? 😆

Ralph — basic ESPN, but in HD I believe.

earlier today someone was inquiring about what a “nekohana” is.
since inquiring minds probably want to know this.
    literally in japanese language
    neko = cat
    hana = flower

    so go figure.

but, while i googled this shows up. its a comment by someone on the “midlife crisis:” blog in april 08.

    “Rodney:

    April 29th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
Nekohana – someone told me that in Korean, it means “one for me” or something similar. A nekohana is a drink that a patron buys for the hostess. But it’s not your ordinary $4.00 drink, it’s $20. The hostess will get an actual drink and sit with the sucker, er… patron who bought it for her and drink it with him. Sometimes it’s alcohol, sometimes it’s water. So what does the hostess do with the other $16 dollars from the nekohana? Buy a Mercedes.”

i am thinking that “nekohana” became more notorious when the korean maidens took over the hostess bars. because in the early beginnings the hostess bars were run and staffed by japanese nationals who tried to bring the geisha bars to hawaii. strip clubs were primarily japanese nationals as well.

no, i am not that old nor did i write a thesis on this subject. one of my infamous uncles was in the business.

  450. al October 17, 2008 12:30 am

btw, why are we talking about nekohana?

    thats not football.
its close to food, family, friends, and definitely fun.
okay so four out of five counts.

ralph….uh vs bs is the friday night lights game feature on espn/hd ch. 1222.

  452. SteveM October 17, 2008 12:31 am

ST just posted a new blog entry.

  453. al October 17, 2008 12:34 am

roomba….nah we tossed ours out. not enough suction power so all the mites and other microorganisms remain imbedded in the carpet. kind of gross.

laundry day is monday and thursday. we have cut down our loads when we procured a extra large front loader.

Enjoying free hotdogs, chips and a fruit platter served all game long. This K-Bay place is better than Murphy’s! More freebies, good service, good pupu’s.

Plenty of space, good viewing, free parking and lots of great fans! We will be here on Nov 8th!
