Letuli won’t play against LaTech

Head coach Greg McMackin said right tackle Laupepa Letuli will not make the upcoming trip because of a knee injury suffered during weight-training Wednesday. McMackin said it is hoped Letuli will be back for the Oct. 10 game against Fresno State.

Adrian Thomas will start at right tackle, McMackin said, and Kainoa LaCount will be part of the rotation.

* * * * *

After evaluating the roster, it was decided that freshman linebacker George Daily-Lyles will make the trip for Wednesday’s game against Louisiana Tech. Yesterday, Daily-Lyles said he would redshirt this season. Today, it was decided that Daily-Lyles would serve as a replacement for linebacker/nickelback Aaron Brown, who is out indefinitely because of an injury to his right hamstring.

* * * * *

Brown’s troublesome right hamstring is an ongoing setback for the Warriors’ banged-up defense.McMackin said Brown won’t play in Wednesday’s road game against Louisiana Tech.

The silver-lining news is that Brown, should the injury persist, would be a candidate for a medical hardship. The JC transfer has not used a redshirt year. What’s more, for now, he meets the criterium of not having played in more than three games in the first six weeks.

If Brown does end up needing a medical hardship, he would have the double benefit of having two more seasons of eligibility while having accumulated three games of Division I game experience. The Warriors have several prominent transfers who are redshirting this year. If they can get by this year, next season they will add several players with Division I experience to the competition on defense. The future, indeed, looks brighter.

So in theory Aaron Brown could be in Manoa for 4 years if he takes a medical hardship this season and three seasons to play two if he should redshirt for whatever reason after this season?

    (repost from yesterday)

I usually don’t like asking for stuff from the Tsaikos but this is something that is important to me. On October 18, the Susan G Komen foundation is holding the Hawaii Race for the Cure. My mom is a breast cancer survivor and she usually participates in this walk but will be on a trip. I will be taking her place and joining the HawaiiMoms team for the 5K walk. If anyone wants to join me and the Moms, please join their team. If not, I humbly ask that you make any donation. Below is the link to make donations. Thank you.

I would not hold Aaron out this year unless he remains injured. This can be a very good Warriors team, and he can make a big contribution.

met the brown family up in WA at one of the parties. really nice couple. his dad was amazed by the support that Hawaii people give. i could also tell where aaron got his athletic genes from, as his dad still looked like he could suit up. he said he played in the big-10 and couldn’t wait for UH to play Wisconsin this year. he’d be cheering for the Warriors of course.

    aloha Tsaikos,

have a great friday, and a great weekend…wednesday afternoon game, now THAT is something different. see if Lou Holtz has any love for us….he was the same coach that recruited John Ching, Shawn’s brother……right? injuries sidelined John during his college years……we’ll see.

whew, leaving the burbs and going into the ‘traffic zone’ from the West Side, haha. normally, we’re in the office by 615 am, but took a break today because of a late meeting last night.

    a hui hou…………………….

  26. mctruck September 25, 2009 7:57 am

I have one thing to say about the injuries……..ARGGGGH!!!, is that how you spell it???

o.k.,o.k.,…..I lied, fingers crossed for everyone to heal fast!!!!

  27. (Jesse) James September 25, 2009 7:57 am

    Good morning Tsaikos…

Geez, Mrs. C is here again. That’s twice in 2 days…what’s going on??? LMAO

Too bad about the injuries, although as ST said, it could be a blessing in disguise. But we are thin on D so I don’t know if I’d hold out Aaron for the entire season unless I had to.

I wonder why there are so many ankle sprains with UH players. Could it be taping issues? shoes? Hmmmm…just curious.

  28. jm2375 September 25, 2009 7:59 am

    Good morning Tsai-kos! Happy Friday!

Congrats to the Wahine on the win last night. Start of the “uno, dos, adios” portion of the season, aka the WAC.

Not to nitpick cuz she one of the best servers, but I thought I saw Aneli toss the ball out instead of up on several of her serves. On one of them she came real close to foot-faulting. I think that one went long anyways. Do they still get redo’s, like Yuval was famous for?

  29. mctruck September 25, 2009 8:02 am

Let’s see now?, McNabb and the starting qb for Seattle out with cracked ribs….if we were cannibles, it sounds like something “ono” to eat….bwaaahahaha!!!

  30. protector September 25, 2009 8:02 am

I agree with ‘lava’ on # 13 & hope Aaron doesn’t have to be “permanently” sidelined for the rest of the year. He’s been very effective when on the field; it would be a shame not to have him available for the stretch run. But Que sera sera, I guess.

  67. Kazz (SIX more for Coach Shoji) September 25, 2009 10:39 am

Man, I was REAL exhausted after the game last night, but good to see Cascioppo getting to start in conference play not sure how much time she would have seen had Kanani not been under the weather, but for the most part, I think she did ok other than a few mental things and Forsythe did nicely in the 3rd set.

Still.. Kind of sloppy play at times. BSU had nothing to lose in front of the largest crowd they’ll see all year so they looked better than a team that is 0-11. Granted not having a starter in the lineup and starting two players that aren’t usually starters (Lee and Cascioppo) effected the “fluidity” of how they started.

    NEXT!!!

  68. Kazz (SIX more for Coach Shoji) September 25, 2009 10:40 am

UH Rainbowtique got a new black shirt.

It’s one of those that only the team and staff have been previously exclusive to.

It says “HAWAII” on the front above a graphic of a football. Only in black right now.

Also got a NICE black UA track jacket with “football” embroidered on the sleeve and a nice “HAWAII” graphic embroidered on the back… 85.00 freakin’ dollars though… (sighs) 🙁 Had to pass on it last night… 🙁

I wonder if Koa-Mahu will be joining the group??!!??

  92. HiFlyer September 25, 2009 1:01 pm

Happy Birthday Bigwave and Fetaiagogo Fonoti.

  93. wafan September 25, 2009 1:02 pm

A mohawk that runs from ear to ear would be an interesting look on Stretch.

  94. (Jesse) James September 25, 2009 1:03 pm

    BTW, where is Koa-mahu???? Haven’t seen him/her around for a while….

  95. wafan September 25, 2009 1:04 pm

    Stretch . . .

I do not think it has to be in Texas for KM.

  96. Stretch September 25, 2009 1:06 pm

I hope Fonoti didn’t react like this guy after getting the Gatorage bath.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4504153

BEREA, Ohio — After a spirited practice, the Cleveland Browns were still in a playful mood so they decided to pull a prank on one of their rookies.

Francies Coye Francies didn’t care for the joke.

The first-year cornerback, incensed over being soaked with water by some of his teammates, threw a bucket of ice and at least one errant punch during a skirmish in the Browns’ locker room on Friday.

As the Browns returned from practice, a dripping-wet Francies stormed into the locker room lugging a Gatorade bucket full of ice. Before he could be stopped, Francies tossed the ice on cornerback Brandon McDonald, hitting him with cubes that covered the floor.

At that point, it was not clear if Francies was playing along and messing with McDonald.

Then, his mood, and the vibe in the room, turned more serious.

Francies flung some more ice in the direction of safety Mike Adams before heading toward safety Abram Elam’s corner cubicle. With the bucket on the floor, Francies then swung his arms at Elam, who deflected the blows. Pro Bowl nose tackle Shaun Rogers then stepped in and grabbed Francies by the back of the shirt and escorted him out a side door as other players came to help.

Spam commercials have been playing recently. The newest one shows a classroom of eggs with the teacher taking roll. “Egg.” “Here.” “Egg.” “Here.” “Egg.” “Here.” All done while the eggs are falling asleep and looking completely bored.

Finally, a can of Spam bursts through the door. HA!

I guess I know what I am having for dinner, now.

  99. wafan September 25, 2009 1:23 pm

Matt – thanks for the donation!!

$755 more and I’ll think about the pitbull mullet. Not sure if it would work since my hair is not long enough in the back.

  101. Kekoa September 25, 2009 1:32 pm

wafan ~ Don’t start with da brokeback jokes, Koa Mahu is very sensitive and jealous of sharing J(J). Plus – you know the mother hens are so protective of their brood.

19.2# baby born in Indonesia. Talk about pain!

He is not the biggest baby born, though. In 1879, a US baby weighed 22.5#. That would definitely hurt!

    Kekoa . . .

My first reference was to the broken backs of the horses; hence the reference to the ASPCA. I guess, swayback would have been a better term.

But, I did notice (J)J did express interest in knowing where KM has been. I wonder why he wants to know.

    Hmmmmmmm.

Tom Mui — the ice cream bar is open 1200-2130 daily. Ice cream and sherbert served in cones or bowls w/candies. Sometimes softee dispenser and chocolate fountain for coating cakes and fruit sticks.

[FRIDAY – DAY 5 of 11. Port of Pichilingue/La Paz in the Sea of Cortez
    24.25 N, 110.33W 1400 MDT]

Good day everyone, especially fellow Tsai-ko Cruisers!

Docked at Pichilingue Harbor, which is on the Baja California peninsula on the Sea of Cortez. Short stay today before proceeding to Mazatlan at 1600 MDT.

The harbor is beautiful, with our pier area cut out from the hillside. The pier is new and the guest facility ashore (where you wait for buses/taxi’s) is modern. Peaches checked out the restroom and gave it a passing grade 🙂 We did not bus into La Paz.

Today’s snapshot of shipboard life: being a port day, there are fewer daytime activities on board ship. Casino opens tonight. Cruise Director staff activities today include a Shuffleboard tournament (yes, there is a shuffleboard layout way up on deck 12 aft somewhere). Golf putting tournament, Basketball Free Throw competition, and 2 trivia contests (no arts & craft today) and a Family Feud game show with passengers. Karaoke is on at 2030 in the main forward lounge and the “Single Traveler’s Informal Get-Together” is at 1830 in the Windjammer piano bar.

Tonight’s professional theater performance is “Circ Pan” by the Jean Anne Ryan Company. High energy acrobatics, dancing and singing.

For the alcoholic beverage crowd the 0800-1100 Happy Hour specials are same as yesterday in the ship’s 11 bars. No NCL-“U ” drinking courses today. But, “Try before you buy” free Vodka tasting at the Dutry Free shop 1830-2030. The Cruise Director’s gang and bar staff is throwing a “Tropical Night” party at 2230 on the pool deck. Much music and dance.

Next port: Mazaltan. ETA 0800 Saturday

  108. SteveM September 25, 2009 1:56 pm

I’ve tried to describe the typical activities on a cruise (except spa, jewelry, duty-free shop, art, and casino promotions. I suppose I’ll share a daily routine we have fallen into after many cruises. Warning–this is not typical of most cruisers (esp. those that are younger, drink, dance, gamble, etc.). 🙂

    THURSDAY in Topolobampo

Woke up and crawled out of bed before 0800 (earlier than the usual 0930), made it to the buffet by 0830. Buffet breakfast: made-to-order omelettes, bacon, sausage, etc. Plate of melon, cantaloupe, stewed prunes, banana. Orange juice and coffee. Took pix of the Topolobampo area at stern and bow of ship.

Sat in the forward observation lounge watching the port activities and decided to take a cab in the afternoon. Got time to hit the hot tub and pool so made it to the pool deck by 1030. Departed pool deck to shower and change by 1200 (missing ice cream). Proceeded to the main dining room at stern for lunch at 1230. Stop by the buffet to refill our ice tea & coffee mugs. Back at stateroom by 1400. Take nap.

1500 wake up, gather money and ID from safe and proceed ashore. Arrange taxi tour and went sight-seeing. Return to ship by 1700. Put money away in cabin and head for the buffet again for ice cream. Light snack–small sandwich, sausages, french fries, fruit. Refill mugs. Return to cabin and nap until 1915. Knock on our door–our steward is looking to turn down the cabin (he knows we’re usually out by then). Told him in 30 minutes. Dressed again and returned to fine dining.

5 courses later, we left fine dining at 2045. Was told the show was good so decided to attend the 2130 showing. Returned to room, passing through but skipping the Mexican pool deck party. 2300–I get the munchies and go to the late-night buffet. Picked up goodies (pizza, sausage, fruit, cookies) and brought back to the stateroom for Peaches. I continue writing this. Peaches is doing puzzles. Good night

A cruise in not a non-stop meal! We stop to sleep and nap in between. 😐 But it is a non-stop party if you want it to be–and you don’t have to drive home. Security will wheel chair you to your cabin. I am finally starting to unwind and feel relaxed. It’s been 2 years since my last cruise but it seems like I never left. The ship is a large but familiar place and I’ve missed it.

  109. SteveM September 25, 2009 1:59 pm

Since this cruise (Norwegian Sun) originated and will return to San Francisco, a lot of bay area residents are aboard. We’ve met a lot of people from Sacramento to San Jose and down into Fresno State land.

A lot of San Francisco area Chinese cruisers too –we have befriended a small group–they cruise together and have 20-30 cruises each. They tell me the heavy duty mah jong players are actually a Chinese tour group.

When we first met the cruisers and we told them we were from Hawaii, one remarked, “Yes, we could tell by your accent”. 😕 Since we were not speaking pidgin, I am very curious about our accent. These people are San Francisco residents all their lives with very little ties to Hawaii.

Peaches recognized an NCL employee from our previous Panama Canal cruise in 2003. After talking with him, I remembered too. He was a waiter on that cruise and is now an officer and Ass’t Maitre’d in one of speciality restaurants. Our Chinese cruiser friends knew him first–I guess he can spot the long time cruisers.

Today is Internet “Happy Hour” where if I use 20 minutes, I’ll get 10 back, so I’m going for it. Each “download, post and run” session has taken at least 6+ minutes each foray. Used to do it in 3-4 minutes, but this current blogware requires more time–actually waiting for a time-out as the browser waits for the blog overhead and junk served.

OK..enough minutes for now at satellite modem rates. Glad everyone made it home from Vegas and is checking in. Myki & sj-macro are on the east coast and getting ready to board a New England/Canada Fall Foliage cruise on October 3 out of Boston.

    HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY HIFLYER !!!

    ST ~

Hope the player who hurled at practice did not have the flu! Would not want to see that virus making the rounds of the team.

    Mizzou 12 – Nevada 7 on ESPN

  133. Garret September 25, 2009 4:11 pm

Feature story on Jake Ingram’s love of surfing.

“I’ve been surfing since I was 6 years old,” Ingram said. “That’s what you do in Hawaii. You’re always around the water. If you’re not surfing, fishing or diving, I don’t know what you’re going to do.”

  134. Garret September 25, 2009 4:12 pm

Wow, George Daily-Lyles is not redshirting after all. Considering all of the injuries, I can understand why the coaches want him to play. I hope that he’s not too disappointed in not redshirting–he sure sounded like he was looking forward to saving a year of eligibility.

  135. A-House September 25, 2009 4:14 pm

OK, Stretch, less than $500 to go until $2,000.

BTW, do we get to see with your new hair do?

  136. Garret September 25, 2009 4:14 pm

If Aaron Brown’s injury isn’t serious too serious and he’s able to return with 4 or more games left, the team probably needs him this year. Also, if his injury is not too serious, it might not be a slam dunk to get that medical redshirt year.

  137. d1島 September 25, 2009 4:15 pm

Wouldn’t the redshirt season still be available next year should circumstances warrant?

  138. d1島 September 25, 2009 4:16 pm

    ….asking about GDL.

  139. Garret September 25, 2009 4:17 pm

    Slugger,

I agree with your hope that the player does not have the flu. All of the road trips (with the climate changes and with the flu being so widespread on the mainland) are worrisome, especially with the next road trip going to the South where so many swine flu cases have been found lately.

Over *35* football players for Florida have had the swine flu lately!

Meyer revealed two days before the No. 1 Gators face Kentucky that more than 1/3rd of his team has come down with a case of the flu this season.

“I think we’ve had over 35 cases over the last three or four weeks,” Meyer said. “I’m just going to blow the whistle and whoever runs out, runs out.”

Two more starters sat out of Thursday’s practice with the flu – cornerback Joe Haden and safety Major Wright. They joined three more starters – tight end Aaron Hernandez, running back Jeff Demps and defensive end Jermaine Cunningham – who played with the flu last Saturday against Tennessee and were limited in practice this week.

University of Florida officials have estimated that between 25 to 40 percent of the student body will come down with the flu. The Gainesville Sun reported that the UF Student Health Care Center has seen about 450 cases of the flu this fall, and that 97 percent of them have been classified as the H1N1 virus, or swine flu.

  140. Garret September 25, 2009 4:20 pm

    d1shima,

Yes, GDL could still redshirt next year. There aren’t that many players that redshirt after playing a year, though…

Ashley Lelie – is he still looking for a job?

He should apply at the Patsies ….

    Got this from USA Today:

Due to concern over their potentially depleted receiver corps, the Patriots reportedly tried several free agents on Friday, including former Seahawk Courtney Taylor.

Chris Davis (Titans), Larry Beavers (Panthers), Anthony Armstrong (Dolphins), and Will Franklin (Raiders) were also there. Randy Moss and Wes Welker are both questionable for Week 3. If the Pats sign a receiver on Saturday, it’ll be a bad sign for their top wideouts’ chances of playing Sunday

2004 Iolani graduate azngamer808 was the place kicker for the Raiders

    Smash those Puns!

  170. Mad Dog September 25, 2009 5:35 pm

WarriorMojo: thanks for the Punahou-Iolani game updates.

I’m watching the Missouri/Nevada game on ESPN. Missouri leading 21-13 in the 4th. Nevada fumbled near Missouri’s goal line. Missouri took the ball down the field and scored. 28-13

  171. d1島 September 25, 2009 5:36 pm

Man! Mizzou musta done some serious work in the weight room during the off-season. All their guys look HUGE!

  172. bighilofan2 September 25, 2009 5:38 pm

watchin the Mizzou Nevada game 2. like Pride said, no put da ball on da carpet. bachi kine, bad!

  173. Mad Dog September 25, 2009 5:39 pm

Our DE’s had better be healthy when we play Nevada to get after Kasper…whatever the QB’s name is.

  174. bighilofan2 September 25, 2009 5:39 pm

i wonder if Mizzou’s guys mo big dan Wisc?

  175. Ralph September 25, 2009 5:40 pm

WAC getting hammered again! It was a toss up at half time.

  176. WarriorMojo September 25, 2009 5:41 pm

  178. Ralph September 25, 2009 5:42 pm

t thought LB was a strong position for us, lots of players, now Brown goes down and we might have to burn a possible RS for DL.

  179. chopsueyboy September 25, 2009 5:42 pm

Nevada must have just started their auction, limited items
    but
they do have something that I wish we would do
they sell photos from their games…5 X 7 cost $12.99
sounds like big profits for someone

    https://www.nmnathletics.com/PhotoStore.dbml?DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=10000&SPID=4082

and they do it for all sports
think of all the revenue generated just from family & fans
of the various men & women teams

  180. Mad Dog September 25, 2009 5:43 pm

Nevada’s game was a toss up until they fumbled instead of scoring. Now, the game belongs to Missouri.

  181. Garret September 25, 2009 5:46 pm

Cleveland’s Defensive Coordinator praised David Veikune and Kaluka Maiava.

(On David Veikune and Kaluka Maiava)- “I tell you, it’s exciting. It is exciting. These kids are coming on. Those two young men you mentioned right there, they’re going to be good players. They really are. You can see them growing. It’s like all of a sudden now they have beards. It’s like, ‘Gosh, they’re men now.’ They’re just waiting for their opportunity. They really are and they’re going to be good when they get in there, they really are. Here are guys, probably used to playing every snap they’ve ever played, now they’re backups. Usually you see a little lull in the action, it takes a while, but now, they’re growing. They’re coming on fast. Both those kids, they’re coming on fast and they’re going to be good players. It’s really exciting to see those guys every day, because they work hard and they’re getting better.”

  182. d1島 September 25, 2009 5:46 pm

    Ralph,

    Mizzou too big, too fast…

  183. Mad Dog September 25, 2009 5:46 pm

Darn. The WAC will take it in the shorts against the BCS, again.

  184. Garret September 25, 2009 5:48 pm

I would have liked for Nevada to have won today to get respect for the WAC. La Tech, Nevada and Fresno State, all have had big nonconference games and all were lost.

  185. d1島 September 25, 2009 5:49 pm

Congrats (Red) Raiders! (That’s what they were when I was there!)

  186. chopsueyboy September 25, 2009 5:52 pm

  187. Mad Dog September 25, 2009 5:52 pm

The WAC can’t get respect if they don’t win. Nevada isn’t that bad, except for their defensive secondary.

  188. wafan September 25, 2009 5:54 pm

    Bravo ‘Raiders!!!

  189. d1島 September 25, 2009 5:54 pm

    MadDog,

Nevada isn’t that bad, except for their defensive secondary.

    I like that!

  190. Garret September 25, 2009 5:56 pm

Bad news about Letuli…I hope that he’s healthy for Fresno State. Good thing there is a half-bye week after the La Tech game to let the Warriors heal.

  191. Mad Dog September 25, 2009 5:57 pm

I think the Warriors will be able pass against Nevada. I just hope our defense will be able to slow their offense.

  192. wafan September 25, 2009 5:57 pm

Congratulations to azngamer808 on his promotion!!!

Thanks, chopsueyboy . . . is that at yahoo?

Happy Birthday to Mr. Fonoti and to BigWave!

  196. Committed Road Warrior September 25, 2009 6:03 pm

Including tonight’s Mizzou-Nevada game, the WAC has played 10 BCS opponents so far in non-conference action and has only mustered two wins from them. We have one of those victories. Boise over Oregon was the other.

Entering this weekend’s action the conference as a whole only has four more matchups against the BCS (Fresno @ Cincy and @ Illinois, NMSU @ Ohio State, UH vs. Wisky).

Unfortunately, the odds are up there that the conference could drop the remaining bouts against the BCS. 2-12 against the BCS would not help the WAC at all.

  197. Cindy cee September 25, 2009 6:04 pm

SteveM, mahalo for your trip reports. : )
The “accent” you mentioned is probably heard in the way we
say certain words, not so much a pidgin, but an inflection. When
I did commercials, had to concentrate on removing even the slightest
    inflection. I prefer pidgin. LOL.

  198. Cindy cee September 25, 2009 6:05 pm

  202. BowsForever September 25, 2009 6:22 pm

According to the ESPN commentator, Mizzou got away with a big offensive pass interference call when they went up 28-13. If so, tough break for Nevada, though the momentum wasn’t going their way at all after the fumble and the huge running plays.

  203. BowsForever September 25, 2009 6:23 pm

Clarification: Mizzou got away with a big _missed_ call that should’ve backed ’em up 15 yards. Something about the ball being called thrown behind the line of scrimmage when it actually went beyond it before it was caught.

  204. bighilofan2 September 25, 2009 6:33 pm

okay okay i got da visuals, Doc.

gang, if we raise Stretch’s goal to $3K and make it,
    we get a 2fur1 deal.
    WassupDoc said she’d go bolo 2. 😆

I’m bringing my checkbook to the 10/10 Tgate and putting $50 where my mouth is.

  205. Mad Dog September 25, 2009 6:34 pm

By that time, Nevada believed they couldn’t win anyway. Missouri kept up the pressure. They did not go with conservative, not to lose plays. Missouri didn’t give Nevada the opportunity to believe they had a chance.

  206. bighilofan2 September 25, 2009 6:35 pm

saw that kind of game calling at UNLV too.

Warriors gotta know that they gotta go the extra 30% because the game not gonna be called fair. Life is not fair.
Don’t expect to get the break. Play like you’re not gonna get the break.

    Go Warriors! Beat La Tech!

  207. A-House September 25, 2009 6:38 pm

  208. bighilofan2 September 25, 2009 6:39 pm

    You hear that, coaches?

In the 4th quarter of the Nevada game, according to our Mad Dog:
“…Missouri kept up the pressure. They did not go with conservative, not to lose plays. Missouri didn’t give Nevada the opportunity to believe they had a chance.”

Sound familiar? Don’t you let up, coaches. Don’t let up. You’re gonna hit that wall in the 4th against La Tech. Count on it, like you can count on the sun is gonna rise tomorrow. Its all on you, coaches. Keep the Warriors heads in the vision. Victory. Victory. Victory.

    Go Warriors!

  209. wafan September 25, 2009 6:40 pm

WAC teams are now 2-12 against BCS teams this season. RESPECT means holding up your end of the deal. RESPECT starts with standing up to the rest of the WAC.

    STAND UP, WARRIORS. STAND UP!

  224. wafan September 25, 2009 8:29 pm

    Jason . . .

About 20 years ago I did a walk-a-thon. I offered to shave my beard off if I was able to raise over $500. The kids got the word out at school.

Money raised in two days. Easy!

If you offer to shave your head at school you could raise a whole lot for your cancer walk. It will also raise their awareness.

  225. cavewarrior September 25, 2009 8:42 pm

Is Travis LaBoy on an NFL roster?

  226. Jason September 25, 2009 8:50 pm

You’ll never see me shave my head. Sorry, I cross the line at that. Although, I tried to get our math team coach in high school to do that. ʻIolani’s coach used to shave his head if anyone averaged a perfect score for the season; we convinced our coach to dye her hair every time one of us got a perfect score at a meet.

So, what else do you think I could do? 🙂

    Jawon . . .

Dye your hair a bright blue and white — just make sure BS is not coming to town.

It has to be something bordering on outlandish or something the kids think you really cherish (your hair is a good example). Gotta have some fun with it!

  229. wafan September 25, 2009 9:07 pm

Jawon? Who is that? A hybrid of C_C and Jason?

    Nope. Just a huge typo.

    Sorry, Jason!

  230. Ralph September 25, 2009 9:09 pm

K-State starts fall baseball practice this Sunday. Anything happening at UH Manoa. How many of the recruits actually made it to campus, i read a couple signed with mlb. UH media and Trap needs to put out some bulletins, get people interested in the baseball program, when spring season starts the fan base will have a clue as to who is on the team and what to expect.

  231. PowderPuff September 25, 2009 9:39 pm

  236. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc September 26, 2009 12:13 am

Before I head off to beddy-bye, let me repeat two fund-raising offers.

First, is there any interest here on planning a two-part fund-raiser – one for people who live here and are able to take part and the other for people who don’t and/or can’t – to send the some of the Pep Band and some of the cheer-leading squad to the San Jose State game on November 14? If you’d like to learn more, please send an e-mail to swood at hoku dot com. If half a dozen or so people respond by Wednesday evening, September 30, then I’ll draft an e-mail & send it out to everyone on the current list as to what it would entail.

If it’s a “yes” from you folks, then the next step is to consult with Na Koa, the the music department, and the Athletic Department and Manoa administrators. I really don’t want to deal with them without making sure that there’s enough support from this group. No sense in raising their hopes.

Second, I offered to raise more money for Stretch’s fund-raising drive – and don’t forget that men can get breast cancer, too – by offering to Do The Bulla if this group raises at least $3,000. Deadline: Sunday, October 18, at 8 am. Donations will be listed on his personal webpage so that it will be easy to see if the challenge is being met.

Kekoa et al: At this point, I’m planning to watch the LaTech game at Nancy’s. Had planned to see it at Murphy’s, but my morning meeting has been shifted from Honolulu Hale to Kapolei Hale so I might as well hang around your part of the world to watch the game.

My eyeballs are rolling in my head. Off to bed – 5 am comes too early these days.

    ST

great article today on Tank Hopkins. Discussing his humanity makes me proud to have him on our team.

    somebody said, snap and clear.

Besides, coulda woulda shoulda is all a part of life.

on to Louisiana Tech. Go get em, Tank! You can do it, yes you can!

  239. bighilofan2 September 26, 2009 3:32 am

The choreography of this road game is interesting indeed. Travel time can play on the minds of some of the family guys. But there is good in the travel too. Player’s friends living in the area have the chance to drive up and say hello. Overcoming adversity is another part of being a winner.

Winning on the road, on national tv, and properly preparing for that result, I gotta hand it to coach Mack.

He is walking the talk. He’s earning his money. Every penny!

    Go Warriors!

  240. bighilofan2 September 26, 2009 3:37 am

maybe its just me, but in the third quarter of every game so far, our offense appears flat. wonder why.

  241. bighilofan2 September 26, 2009 3:59 am

    okay, why.

  242. bighilofan2 September 26, 2009 4:03 am

In the third quarter, we gotta keep up the pressure, do not go with conservative, not to lose plays. Don’t give La Tech the opportunity to believe they have a chance. Take the 12th man outta the game in the second half.

  243. bighilofan2 September 26, 2009 4:06 am

    good idea.

  244. bighilofan2 September 26, 2009 4:17 am

  245. bighilofan2 September 26, 2009 4:30 am

read in da odda paper da story on Rodney Bradley.
Both Bradley and Tank Hopkins are transfers outta Navarro JC, referred here by a MacMackin connection. They both have family in the area where the Warriors will be staying in Dallas. good for them!

  246. bighilofan2 September 26, 2009 4:47 am

Navarro JC is in Corsicana Tx. hop on I 45 from Dallas. Thats the JC that sent us Melvin Hopkins and Rod Bradley, and where Mr. Curtis is the assistant coach.

Marlin TX is a really short hop from Dallas on da I 35 Thats where Melvin da Tank is frum. Bradley’s mom lives 20 minutes from where the team is staying in Dallas. The team will stay in Dallas 2 nites.

And this is just one more reason why I say Coach Greg MacMackin is a genius. Everybody gets to do something in those 2 days. Including Coach McMackin. Good job, Coach! Maybe you can help JD out and schedule a home and home game with your former, Texas Tech.

    Again, good job, Coach.

  247. bighilofan2 September 26, 2009 4:48 am

just no forget your #1 job this week, coach.

    heck,

Dallas is a jump from Shreveport. Another short jump to Ruston.

The La Tech game reminds me that we are a distance away. Which is why I appreciate our going to La Tech. Going be a good game to show off our skills on national tv.

  249. bighilofan2 September 26, 2009 4:53 am

I hear your rooster, can you hear mine? been up since 3am with anticipation of all the games.
Nevada showed some good ground game last night, but wondering what the heck happened with Vai Taua?

Aye, the cinci/fresno game is a must to start off the saturday. got it on the channelsurfing site.

  269. wafan September 26, 2009 5:38 am

Geez. What is up with the Advertiser site. Always asking those irritating questions. When I answer I do not give them reliable data/responses. What is the point gathering bogus information. The other day I was a 87 year old woman from outside the US. Today I was a 14 year old male from somewhere in the US.

  270. Maverick September 26, 2009 6:02 am

Morning wafan. I do the same with the all those papers clogging up the site. I like to choose the birth year 1900 and the zip code in Guam.

Watch Cincy pick apart Fresno. This is just like our ’06 – ’07 offense.

  271. wafan September 26, 2009 6:23 am

    Hey, Maverick!

Those guys must feel really good about the international readership! Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!

Michigan State/Wisconsin on. Wisconsin has a running game. Hope our defense stiffings up by then! For the season they are a perfect 13 of 13 scring inside the 20.

Thanks WDoc for the support. I have the clippers….

  273. Stretch September 26, 2009 6:30 am

    Good Morning Tsaikos!!

Does anyone know if there is practice this morning?? Wanted to sleep in a little bit but somehow my eyes opened before 6. I guess that can be considered sleeping in an extra 2 hours.

  274. djmitcho September 26, 2009 6:54 am

Good morning all! Bad news about Pepa. Hopefully the back-ups can step it up. Enjoying the weather we are having here in the inland northwest. Gonna enjoy it by going to the homecoming at Whitworth.
Hope everyone has a good weekend.

I usually let the 99 year-old woman from Mexico answer that question for me. 😆

Not sure about Warrior practice this morning but if not, perhaps a little “aerobic stretching” might fill your time! 😈

  279. d1島 September 26, 2009 7:05 am

BTW – there is practice from 7 to 9. heading out the door right now.

  283. d1島 September 26, 2009 7:16 am

UHFan 808 ~ My goodness! Another birthday slipped in there while you weren’t looking!

If you feel like celebrating just a wee bit more…come by my house tonite as we are hosting an ALL night poker party and jam session to entertain the “aftah Vegas Peeps”. Your birthday gives us something more to celebrate!!

Any excuse for tipping a few brew808 type beverages is acceptable.

Sorry we couldn’t get Amy to stop by this time, but her lead guitarist will be here to play a few tunes. (Chino is single by the way)

A-Joe is going to be here, pickin’ and grinin’ but as you know, he’s taken! (Aunty Tita Leadfoot swings a mean slippah!).

That’s an open invite to any Tsaiko’s who want to come play cards or play music! Drop by and grind some onolicious fuud and wala’au or sing along with da crew! You know you all are always welcome to da hale. We’ll leave da light on for ya!

  325. d1島 September 26, 2009 9:50 am

    Good Morning Tsaikos and Tsaikettes!

I want to wish a HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO UHFAN808!

and a belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO HIFLYER AND BIGWAVE96744

It’s been a rough week so I will make this short and sweet…

Had an wonderful time in Vegas! Got to meet new Tsaikos and see Tsaikos that we haven’t seen in a while.
Two years ago most of us had just met each other for the first time. We had a terrific time at the tailgate, went to the game together, but afterwards we all went our separate ways.
Before this trip, I was trying to imagine what it would be like now that we have gotten to know each other better and what kinds of things we would do. All I can say is I can’t wait for the next time we all go to Vegas.

From someone who doesn’t know much about football and doesn’t know the subtleties of the game, I do see an overall difference and improvement from last years to this years games. No matter what we woulda coulda shoulda done, I thought we played a good game in Vegas. Good to see Blaze is back in. hehehe.

Hmmm…..I guess this post isn’t that short.

    Go Warriors!

  333. βρεω808 September 26, 2009 10:03 am

Earlier this morning, I clicked on the link to the Centennial Celebration Gala in the current issue of the H-Mail.

First of all, the event is on Wednesday, December 2, before the Wisconsin game. Second, individual tickets are $300 or, if a group puts together a table of ten, then it’s $250 per ticket.

Much as I would like to attend the event, it’s not financially realistic to think about doing so. However, if some of the folks ariound here who will be attending could provide the rest of us with a fairly detailed description of what went on, we would appreciate it very much. Perhaps the program itself could be recorded and placed on the WB setbsite
