  4. gigi-hawaii June 12, 2012 12:19 am

Hmmm. I couldn’t get any of those videos to play! Too bad.

  5. WarriorNY June 12, 2012 12:46 am

Aw man… Now I’m jonesing for some local food… Thanks a lot ST…. BTW – 38 point dogs against USC? Yikes…

  6. bleedgreen June 12, 2012 1:05 am

ST, nice videos. Any chance u can provide an update on the players off-season workouts. Like who’s benching 400-plus.

  7. Shoko June 12, 2012 2:36 am

    Morning!

I figure the spread should drop a bit as we get nearer to kickoff in the USC game. However, not by much as I think USC is going to be hungry, and margin of victory is going to be a priority for them.

In the Tuioti video, I saw RK in the background. Should have asked him where is his favorite place to eat. Bet his answer would be one word: Everywhere!…lol

  8. Wes'side Warrior June 12, 2012 2:42 am

    Morning, everyone!

    It’s all about da gravy!!!

These guys seriously gotta try some Big Kahuna’s Pizza just off da airport. While I haven’t been home long enough to get caught up with all da ‘ono eateries, I do recall watching that Food Network guy, Guy, going around da island, showcasing some broke da mout’ food. One place that I know I love is Sumo’s in Kapolei. Had da regular fried rice (da one wit’ pieces of char siu mixed in), on my last visit home, with my oldest daughter, her boyfriend, and Bruddah Kekoa.

Just like WarriorNY, now I’m hungry for some local food. Gonna have to check out da “Waikikie BBQ” out here in da Atlanta area. It’s about 45 minutes away. Just got an invite from another UH fan that lives and works in da area. We’ll see how things go…

    Have a great day, everyone!

  9. Shoko June 12, 2012 2:43 am

Sorry to hear about Colt being cut. Man, the kid can’t get a break (no pun).

  10. Wes'side Warrior June 12, 2012 2:50 am

I’ve noticed the past couple of days, RK has been posting ‘onolicious pics of T’s All Kine Ono Grinds… wonder if that’s a favorite of his?

    Re: SC Pt. Spread

Gimme all doze odds maker dream team pts! All we need is one more den dem and presto!…We win!! I like our chances wen times are tuff.

    Back to bed…Zzzzzz

  12. Wes'side Warrior June 12, 2012 2:55 am

Howzit, Shoko. Fo’ realz, Bruddah Colt no can get any breaks. As someone mentioned, the RnS seems to give our receivers a better look than our QB’s. To think, the way that offense runs, with the QB and receivers having to basically make up the play at the line of scrimmage, based on what the defense is giving… it’s far more complicated that drawn out plays where both already know where the ball has to be at.

Wishing the best for Colt, whatever that path may be.

  13. wafan June 12, 2012 2:55 am

    Good morning folks!

  14. Wes'side Warrior June 12, 2012 2:57 am

Colt released from cfl team; UH projected to lose by uku pile scores?, wat a way to start off my morning…now I need to bury myself in mo coffee and one big breakfast. I still get hopes for UH to do better than dat.

Colt needs to stay connected wit fb, only from the sidelines in a coaching position maybe?

  22. mctruck June 12, 2012 3:48 am

Rolo and Timmy Chang made changes to coaching….fo sure, Colt can transition…good luck Colt, u have paid ur dues.

    http://m.jsonline.com/sports/packers/young-packers-house-green-put-offseason-to-good-use-nj5n68j-158389145.html

Green said he’s stronger than ever. Rehabilitating after a knee injury ended his rookie season in Week 7 after only three carries for 11 yards, about all he could do was work out. It wasn’t just that he could power clean more weight, he could do it more rapidly.

That’s remarkable because for the first three or four months after his surgery, Green just started walking, then jogging, in the Packers pool.

He went home for two weeks after the season-ending loss to the New York Giants and then returned to Green Bay for work. That was difficult, because he has two children back home and he wanted to stay with them.

“But I had to get healthy.”

The one thing he will test in training camp – his goal for a full return – is a full run.

“I haven’t really sprinted full speed yet,” said Green.

But with all the off-season work, he has jumped up from his playing weight of 218 pounds last year to around 225 to 228.

McCarthy said last week it was too early to assess the running back position. He’ll get another look at everyone except Green on Tuesday through Thursday in the mandatory minicamp. It is hard for Green not to try to make out a depth chart.

“It’s something that’s on my mind, but at the same time, it’s not really important right now,” said Green. “It’s the beginning of June, I’m still trying to get over this ACL thing. My focus is on that, being 100%. It’s a nine- to 12-month process, and I have to be patient.”

  31. gigi-hawaii June 12, 2012 6:12 am

oh wow! I finally was able to see those videos. Don’t know why I couldn’t earlier. Funny that none of them mentioned fine dining. Lol.

  32. bigislandkurt June 12, 2012 6:20 am

Colt should just come back to Hawaii and run for office already. He will always have love in these parts!

Green Bay – By day, he’s running. By night, he’s pulling for LeBron James to win his first NBA championship. Alex Green has found his off-season groove. And the Green Bay Packers running back believes he’s inching closer to full strength.

More than six months after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament, Green is running four days a week. He recently met with the team’s physician, Pat McKenzie, who is hopeful Green will be ready for training camp. Green has stayed ahead of schedule all off-season.

  34. gigi-hawaii June 12, 2012 6:22 am

Liz: Great news about Alex Green! Wish him the best.

  35. Ipu Man June 12, 2012 6:30 am

    Thom Kaumeyer mentioned “cold noodles”.

That’s always good on a hot summer day.

  36. RedZone June 12, 2012 6:36 am

    congrats to Ricketts and Iwata.

    Easton All-Americans

  37. Ipu Man June 12, 2012 6:42 am

Does USC have more football players on its roster than UH?

Just because they are richer and recruit 5 star players does not mean

man-for-man UH is inferior. The only way they can beat us is depth.

But if we have the same number of players, then poohey on them.

    We can take ’em.

  38. mikey June 12, 2012 6:56 am

I have a gut feeling our Warriors will not lose by 5 TDs. I say they going to put on a fight. Call me a koolaide drinker but oh well. Watch for the jaw dropping stunner:P

  39. Da Punchbowl Kid June 12, 2012 6:56 am

    Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂

SC spread? That’s why we play the game! Can’t wait!

Thanks for the Green info, Liz and others.

God has a plan for Colt.

  40. Da Punchbowl Kid June 12, 2012 6:57 am

    I’m witchu, mikey.

  41. WarriorNY June 12, 2012 7:15 am

Call me a Kool-Aid drinker here as well… I think UH will keep it close. Chow will run the ball on offense and try to control the clock. To put into perspective though, Appalachian State was only a 4 TD underdog against Michigan in probably the biggest upset in college football history…

BTW – I came across this from the St. Louis Rams blog…

Salas is potentially an even more interesting case. He’s been impressive throughout OTAs, which is no small feat considering he’s coming off a serious injury that ended his season early. Not only is Salas healthy, he’s been productive.

    – On Friday, Salas worked with the top unit and made some impressive catches from QB Sam Bradford including a diving one-handed number that looked nearly impossible considering the velocity on the ball. Count Salas out of the mix at your own peril but he was coming into his own before his injury last year and looks even better so far this year.

  42. tommui June 12, 2012 7:23 am

    GOOD MPRNNG HAWAII!

Colt is still #1 in my book.

Just remember – baby steps! Looks like you’ll be up and about in no time.

    WarriorNY –

Thanks for the piece about Salas. Good to see he’s recovered nicely.

    ST & Tsaiko Blog Dogs:

Neat video and good change of pace question…need more of these to wile away the time till kick off. Say wasn’t that Kekaula in the background. I guess the question for him would be…where don’t you eat?

  46. Stephen Tsai June 12, 2012 7:55 am

There are four games UH will be a big underdog (USC, BYU, Boise State, San Diego State), four games they will be a big favorite (Lamar, New Mexico, UNLV, South Alabama) and four that will be a toss-up. Win what you’re supposed to win, do well in the pick-’em games and steal a game or two as an underdog and there’s hope for a good season.

But ya never know. That’s why they play the games. And that’s why they invented green bottles.

  47. Ipu Man June 12, 2012 7:58 am

UNLV and South Alabama will not be pushovers…

    Don’t know about Lamar.

New Mexico may be on fire…

  48. Stephen Tsai June 12, 2012 8:01 am

    Brush fire?

  49. Stephen Tsai June 12, 2012 8:09 am

Stories on betting lines in early June are about as meaningful as videos on coaches’ favorite eateries.

    They’re purely for entertainment purposes.

Besides, betting lines are not indicators of an outcome, they’re indicators of public opinion. Vegas wants a figure in which half will bet on one side and half the other. If too many people take the points, then the line goes down. Too many give the points, the line goes up. It’s like Facebook stock.

  50. Stephen Tsai June 12, 2012 8:10 am

Once UH announces a starting quarterback, we’ll see a real line.

  51. A-joe June 12, 2012 8:15 am

    Ipu Man-

From experience I’ve found that no matter how much players the other team has on their sideline, they can only play 11 at a time. Ironically, the same amount as us.

If your assessment is true then I agree as well; it’s completely unfair that SC has a few more players than us. They better get more!

Today, may our Warrior men have a solid training day that builds upon previous days work and brings them ever closer to exceed their optimum goals to win a National Championship!!

“Why settle for Great when you can be a LEGEND!!”

  52. gigi-hawaii June 12, 2012 8:17 am

I think UH’s success will depend on the coaching. After all, JJ inherited von Appen’s players and was able to win a championship.

  53. gigi-hawaii June 12, 2012 8:28 am

Yesterday, ESPN reported the results of a poll regarding who will win the championship. Of 491,000+ votes, 60% said the Thunder will win, and 38% said the Heat will win.

    That upset me.

  54. jm2375 June 12, 2012 8:44 am

    Good morning Tsaikos!

Fuud. Always a great topic. How come you didn’t ask Coach Chow?

BTW, congrats to Stony Brook U on winning a super regional over LSU. First cold-weather, low-major school to get to the CWS in almost 30 years.

  55. Stephen Tsai June 12, 2012 8:45 am

    jm:

Chow was at a function when I got there.

  56. Stephen Tsai June 12, 2012 8:48 am

Kekaula and I were going to eat at Sekiya’s yesterday when I noticed Liz Kauai’s post about Colt.

By the way, Colt isn’t paying for two agents. His agents are brothers — Bruce Tollner and Ryan Tollner.

  57. WarriorNY June 12, 2012 8:50 am

I’m not sure if anyone posted this from last week…

    http://www.presnapread.com/no-90-hawaii/

“Where do Hawaii fans congregate? The chatter at Warrior Sports Network is terrific. You can find additional U.H. football talk at SportsHawaii.com. For an in-depth look at the program, take a look at Stephen Tsai’s blog for The Honolulu Star-Advertiser. Tsai might have the most dedicated readership of any local beat reporter in the country.”

    😀

  58. wafan June 12, 2012 9:05 am

    Thresa Batchelor . . .

    Refer to #58.

  59. Shoko June 12, 2012 9:08 am

I think one of the reasons ST’s blog is popular is because he also talks about food (among other things). Whats funny is you can have differences of opinion to the point where a conversation can get pretty heated, but if you mention food (gravy), the tension seems to disappear. Next time this country goes to war, we should airdrop some mix plates.

  60. LizKauai June 12, 2012 9:17 am

ST- what are you using to take your videos? Need to get a level and white balance on the face of the interviewee. If is is an eyephone (haha), tap on the face before starting. Better yet, stand in such a way that the background has less light than the subject. The light leak from the sunny background is shutting down the “iris” and making the subject too dark.

  61. LizKauai June 12, 2012 9:18 am

    Shoko: FFFFFF!

  62. nanakuli June 12, 2012 9:19 am

The UH coaches should try a locomoko w side order bacon and ice cold orangeade form any drive-in on the Westside.

  63. WarriorNY June 12, 2012 9:28 am

Alright you guys are killing me with all the local food talk… I guess I should actually do some work at work…

  64. Ipu Man June 12, 2012 9:33 am

If yor gonna spam at least speaka da kings inglish…

  65. Being Real June 12, 2012 9:37 am

No one likes kicking a dog when its down, so I wont do it here and now with Colt. But, the truth of the matter is Colt was only as good as his receivers and backs. Colt looked good because he had Ilaoa, the other backs, and the receivers to make him look good. Shovel passes to Ilaoa saved Colt’s okole many times, too numerous to count. The truth surfaced in the NFL and the CFL and this is why Colt was released both times. Colt might make a good coach someday so he should keep his head up and keep trying. Those who can, they play. Those who cant, they coach.

  66. d1shima June 12, 2012 9:40 am

  67. A-joe June 12, 2012 9:47 am

    WarriorNY- Awesome read!!

  68. WarriorNY June 12, 2012 9:58 am

    Being Real,

What about the 2007 season when Ilaoa wasn’t there? You remember the Boise St. and Washington games where the guy had ridiculous poise and accuracy on we were losing?

  69. tommui June 12, 2012 10:26 am

#45 =DPK – thanks, wanted to tango or cha cha today but lucky to do the two-step.

    Ditto Redzone’s #37…

Gratz to Stephanie Ricketts and Jessica Iwata…

    Easton All-Americans!

I noticed, I didn’t see that Alabama girl’s name on either list… the one they were mega-voting for on the Lowe’s thing, while complaining about us.

  100. Wes'side Warrior June 12, 2012 3:24 pm

Well, my one-month on dietary supplements has come and gone…

Eighteen-and-a-half pounds lighter than when I started!

    I feel good… da-na-na-na-na-na-nah…

    I knew that I would, now… da-na-na-na-na-na-nah!

And I’ve been able to adjust my eating habits with minimal changes and disruptions (so far). Easier to do since I’m not at home, I guess. We’ll see how long I maintain, right? Definitely feeling good so far, though!

  101. gigi-hawaii June 12, 2012 3:33 pm

    ST: did you delete yourself?

now you see him, now you don’t.

  102. gigi-hawaii June 12, 2012 3:43 pm

How about the Heat? GO GO GO!!!

  103. Stephen Tsai June 12, 2012 4:11 pm

    Gigi

    I had a winner.

  104. Stephen Tsai June 12, 2012 4:21 pm

Only four steps on that dunk.

  105. gigi-hawaii June 12, 2012 4:33 pm

ST: I am scratching my head as to what you meant. You lost me. Lol.

  106. gigi-hawaii June 12, 2012 4:34 pm

The game is so stressful. Heat is behind by 1 pt.

  107. gigi-hawaii June 12, 2012 4:35 pm

Per ESPN, 49 states voted in favor of the Thunder, including Hawaii.

1 state – Florida – voted for the Heat.

Is it just me or does Kevin Durant points look effortless? Like he exhudes no energy to get a shot up whereas Wade and Lebron work so hard for every point.

  110. gigi-hawaii June 12, 2012 5:16 pm

WNY: you are not dreaming. I agree with you.
