Happy New Year to all the Tsaikos!!! Very quiet here in Arlington, TX. No fireworks. Air is clean, no smoke. And the moon just set at eight in the morning. We are four hours ahead of Hawaii. Pleased to see Navy beat Missouri yesterday.

  10. midnight January 1, 2010 3:58 am

Oh yeah. Temperature at 8am – 29. Expecting a high of 50, with clear skies, no snow today.

  11. mctruck January 1, 2010 3:59 am

You know you gettin old when you fall asleep,(like a rock) before the the clock strikes twelve-o-clock and you don’t even hear the fire works go off, and you didn’t even have a drop of booze all night long.

Anyways, that’s my story, and I’m sticking to it!!…Happy New Year gang. Be it a safe and prosperous one to boot………and GO WARRIORS!!!, in 2010.

  12. RainbowCliff January 1, 2010 4:00 am

Happy New Year Tsaiko Nation as I made 3rd on the post “Yeehaw” as I am up early ready to go “DOMINATE” Los Angeles. This brand new year of 2010 for me is going to be “AWESOME” with nothing but the very best coming from this “old” rainbow warrior who at the age of 51 is the only Hawaii ex-athlete of his age still playing competively as I explain.

Full court basketball anywhere in LA with tough post up and mid range game. Can handle the rock, play the “D” and schooling “ALL” in Magic’s Gym as I am simply known as “RainbowLegend”. #1 ranked single and double tennis player in all of South Bay. Have racquet will travel as eyehand coordination, lateral movment and striking of ball on both sides “INCREDIBLE” consistentcy with athletic skills that is just eye opening to watch as I get everything back !

Bike rider for distance that includes incline and decline slopes as the legs are good and strong. Swimmer of pools or beaches with body and boogieboard surfing that I learned my sophomore year from Desiree and Aso at the wall of waikiki. Mahalo my lady wahines where ever you are as “NACHO” has not lost a wave yet as I can still sit on the board.

Weight lifting on all parts of the bodies with squats, extensions and lateral pull downs “NO PROBLEM”. Competitive spirit high as ever with my amazing look after I dominate my opponent to submission as he or she shakes their head when I tell them “I’m 51 years old” as their mouth just drop wide open in disbelief as I smile at them in which they come to me with a hug and shake my hand !

Love Life Tsaiko Nation and Love Sport as I do it everyday, anyplace and anywhere ALL over the world !

Off this morning to start the New Year right as my opponents are waiting for me with them being schedule in cronological order as the request’s to play against me has to be spread out with so many of my competitors taking waiting slips for their time at bat. No bars, no strings attach only “Rainbow” power of Warrior Nation coming straight from the “OHANA” !

A Hui Ho as away I Go !

  13. mctruck January 1, 2010 4:23 am

Urban Meyer, complained of chest pains??, wonder if all those chest to chest bumping high-fives, etc., might have something to do with it??, just asking.
I would think that after a prolonged practice of that nature, somethings have got to give, you think??

  14. W.M January 1, 2010 4:29 am

If you want to be the best, then you need to take care of business. I think we need Pauoaboy here to put them through bootcamp.

  22. NYUH January 1, 2010 7:19 am

Best win of the decade: Rolo and Owens hang 72 on BYU and 9-3 bowl-less team helps revive a Hawaii Bowl.

    Happy New Year everyone!

Hope you all had a great New Year’s Eve and will have a great long weekend.

Went to “Avatar” in IMAX 3D last night. It was amazing. Well worth the $15 admission. Even the keeed liked it and she’s not a big sci-fi/fantasy fan. I may never go see a movie in 2D again. They even had 3 previews in 3D.

Oh yeah, this is for βρεω808: HOYA SAXA!!!

  53. A-House January 1, 2010 10:44 am

Aheyah, no wonder ST’s house was all dark and quiet at 5:50am as I passed. No change when I returned at 7:15am. went for walk into the valley and no change up the hill – buggah was up till pass 2:30 this morning!!!

Again, Happy New Year from the A-House family!!!!

  54. A-House January 1, 2010 10:47 am

Wonder where the UH coaches are this day as the “dead period” is PAU!

Work on those recruits who are yet to commit and keep talking to those who have committed to reassure them that they are important to the Warrior program.

For those who have verballed elsewhere, but want to become a Warrior, give the coaches a call and talk story – find out what needs to be done – no harm done!

  55. tommui January 1, 2010 10:48 am

Happy, Happy New Year to one and all!

  56. Hawaiianbod January 1, 2010 10:55 am

    g’morning Tsaikos!

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

  57. madeinhawaii January 1, 2010 10:57 am

So now it’s the ‘quiet period’?

    What’s the difference?

  58. madeinhawaii January 1, 2010 11:21 am

    ahh.. found it..

Contact period – permissible for authorized athletic department staff members to make in-person, off-campus recruiting contacts and evaluations.

Dead period – not permissible to make in-person recruiting contacts or evaluations on- or off-campus or permit official or unofficial visits.

Evaluation period – permissible for authorized athletics department staff to be involved in off-campus activities to assess academic qualifications and playing abilities. No in-person, off-campus recruiting contacts with a prospect are permitted.

Quiet period – permissible to make in-person recruiting contacts only on the member institution’s campus.

  59. chawan_cut January 1, 2010 11:27 am

    Ducks getting their feathers ruffled….

  66. d1島 January 1, 2010 12:43 pm

    244 more days until football…..

  67. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc January 1, 2010 12:43 pm

    Wafan:

Day One of Year Zero to the last day of Year Zero = Year One

Day One of Year One to the last day of Year One = Year Two

Day One of Year Two to the last day of Year Two = Year Three

Day One of Year Three to the last day of Year Three = Year Four

Day One of Year Four to the last day of Year Four = Year Five

Day One of Year Five to the last day of Year Five = Year Six

Day One of Year Six to the last day of Year Six = Year Seven

Day One of Year Seven to the last day of Year Seven = Year Eight

Day One of Year Eight to the last day of Year Eight = Year Nine

Day One of Year Nine to the last day of Year Nine = Year Ten

Thus December 31, 2009, was the last day of the first decade of the 21st century and January 1, 2010 – today – is the first day of the second decade of the 21st century.

This will be a great year for many different reasons – and if you want to have some fun, do read David Shapiro’s bblog post for today.

Alas – off to work, but we’re taking along a radio to listen to the Rose Bowl game and probably the Sugar Bowl game as well..

  68. Jason January 1, 2010 12:47 pm

There was no “year zero.” There was year 1 B.C. (Before Christ) or B.C.E. (Before Common Era); and then there was 1 A.D. (Anno Domini, In the Year of Our Lord) or C.E. (Common Era). Thus, this is indeed the last year of this decade.

  69. Jason January 1, 2010 12:52 pm

Oh yeah, and that should read A.D. 1 (the abbreviation coming before the number).

  70. Garret January 1, 2010 1:07 pm

I think that it is AWESOME that Disney is giving a free ticket to Disneyland or Disney World for people who volunteer at one of the selected charitable organizations next year. The list of charitable organizations that qualify for the Disney program is now available on Disney’s website.

    http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/disneyparks/en_US/WhatWillYouCelebrate/index?name=Give-A-Day-Get-A-Disney-Day

Here is a list of some of the organizations in Hawaii that people can volunteer with, getting a free Disneyland or Disneyworld ticket for their volunteer efforts. Hopefully other Hawaii organizations will sign up for this–I think we had well over 100 charities to choose from in San Diego.

USO (United Service Organizations) Hawaii–helps those in the military and their family members

    Junior Achievement of Hawaii Inc.

    Make-A-Wish Foundation of Hawaii

    Molokai Habitat For Humanity

    Habitat for Humanity Maui

  71. Garret January 1, 2010 1:13 pm

It will be really interesting to see what happens with Texas Tech’s recruiting class…and there are at least 2 recruits with Hawaii ties in Texas Tech’s recruiting class.

The 2010 recruiting class for Texas Tech football is rated among the top 25 in the nation by the recruiting Web site Rivals.com.

Linebacker Fred Harvey from Tennessee, along with the father of Denton Ryan High School quarterback Scotty Young and the guardian of Lakeland (Fla.) High School receiver Ben McRoy, said Thursday that Mike Leach’s dismissal as Tech head coach has weakened the strength of their non-binding, oral commitments.

Kadron Boone, a 6-1, 190-pound receiver from Ocala, Fla., de-committed from Tech on Wednesday night, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Mike Leadh’s firing at Texas Tech has indeed weakened the recruit class this year. Anyone in the know knows that Mike was involved in a ongoing bruhahahhahaha with the Texas Tech AD. The AD was looking for a chance to scrap Leach. thats why the TT Pres stepped in last year to redo the contract extension for Leach.

And yes, Mack is connected with Leach good, according to my friend
    online fortune teller. 😆

for me, i wish Coach Leach well.

Maybe Craig James will put in his hat for TT’s coach job.

  79. Slugger January 1, 2010 2:33 pm

    Funny guy you, Hiloman.

  80. Hank January 1, 2010 2:36 pm

Mike Leach is being interviewed right now about the TT situation…he brings up some good points about the James Gang…I find what he says credible…

ask him to come to UH Coach Mack!

  81. koakane iphone January 1, 2010 2:49 pm

  83. Stephen Tsai January 1, 2010 3:10 pm

I’m surprised nobody suggested that Bobby Bowden should join the Warriors …

  84. βρεω808 January 1, 2010 3:15 pm

    …or Chalie Weis…? 🙄

  85. βρεω808 January 1, 2010 3:17 pm

    😳 Charlie… 😳

  86. βρεω808 January 1, 2010 3:18 pm

Sheessshhhh… that’s LOUD sucking sound is coming from the PAC-10…. 🙄

  87. Slugger January 1, 2010 3:19 pm

Ohio State players, coaches, fans stood together to sing their alma mater. Now, why can’t UH do that?

  88. βρεω808 January 1, 2010 3:25 pm

    Team Leadership => R E S P E C T !!!, but heck, this is a New Year! 😀

  89. bighilofan2 January 1, 2010 3:27 pm

    howzit beautiful. 😀

    yes i am a funnyman. 😆

I’d rather have Leach. west of the mississippi kinda thing. 😀

my friend from Texas, close to Lubbock, talks well of Leach.

  90. (Jesse)James January 1, 2010 3:27 pm

Sugar Bowl coin toss….I’m sure Kazz is screaming at Tebow right now…LMAO

  91. bighilofan2 January 1, 2010 3:28 pm

Charlie Weis could be a … Tsaiko. 😯

  92. Derek January 1, 2010 3:29 pm

Oregon blew it against Ohio St. because their kicker missed a field goal.
Personally, I thought Oregon should have gone for the first down on 4th and 1 from about the 30. There was still over 5 minutes left in the game and down 9 and I thought it was easier to pick up 1 yard compared to making a field goal at that point. They still needed 2 scores and the attempted kick I thought there was a lot of pressure put on that kicker. As it turned out OSU ran out the clock and Oregon never got the ball back. Here that, UH!

We need a really good kicker! Terrell Pryor really surprised me though, by passing so much. Oh well, don’t bemoan the Ducks. They have tons for money and will be heard from again this coming season for sure. Chip Kelly is a really good coach. So is Chris Peterson. Our coach. The jury is still out…way out. June Jones is a very good coach. We’re hoping for a very good New Year of course. A good new year kicker!

  93. bighilofan2 January 1, 2010 3:30 pm

    yah, good one (J)J.

  94. Jason January 1, 2010 3:42 pm

Derek: I didn’t mind the decision to kick, but the snap was a terrible one. Just goes to show how valuable a guy like Jake Ingram can be.

  95. chawan_cut January 1, 2010 3:49 pm

    awww dang.
that florida guy’s elbow just bent a way it wasn’t meant to…..

i wonder how many fans cincy got down there in the dome?

  96. (Jesse)James January 1, 2010 3:54 pm

Chawan…yeah…visions of Joe Theisman’s leg ran through my head…ouch…

  97. Ralph January 1, 2010 3:54 pm

Pac 10 is having a bad year all around, football and women volleyball. Lots of high expectation, never happened, but next year, UH better be ready for USC because they are coming out with a vengeance
    .

  98. chawan_cut January 1, 2010 3:57 pm

    wait, this is too familiar.
a team used to wearing black all year now wearing all white including their helmets?

  99. chawan_cut January 1, 2010 3:59 pm

    JJ,
that and rodney bradley’s leg too. ouch.

  100. Ralph January 1, 2010 4:00 pm

read the texas tech forum-lots of angry texans. one texan who claims to be an alumnus and booster claimed that he gave $800K over a period of 8 years or so and it stops today. no leach, no money.

  101. chawan_cut January 1, 2010 4:02 pm

wait a minute. fox has a tebow cam? can you tell who they favor? do they also have a pike cam?

  102. Ralph January 1, 2010 4:06 pm

the player ESPN often quotes as a Tech player happy to see Leach fired and backs Adam James is now identified by Leach on ESPN interview as AJ’s roommate who is on the scout team. The player has been disciplined twice, also complains of lack of playing time, and he has been on academic probation in the past.

  103. Jason January 1, 2010 4:12 pm

Not to mention a QB in white wearing #15 against an SEC team good enough to play in the National Championship game in the Sugar Bowl.

  104. (Jesse)James January 1, 2010 4:15 pm

    C_C..yeah that too….yikes

  105. chawan_cut January 1, 2010 4:38 pm

yep, gotta stop watching this game. gonna have flashbacks soon.

  106. Jason January 1, 2010 4:39 pm

Good idea, I’m back to watching The Next Iron Chef marathon.

  107. chawan_cut January 1, 2010 4:42 pm

wait wait, am i agreeing with jason on something??? oh no….

  108. (Jesse)James January 1, 2010 4:46 pm

C_C…LOL…I was thinking the same thing.

Hey Kazz…you should vote for Tebow as the AT&T player of the year….LMAO

  109. Committed Road Warrior January 1, 2010 4:47 pm

Glad to see I’m not the only one having flashbacks watching tonight’s Sugar Bowl.

  110. chawan_cut January 1, 2010 4:50 pm

oh oh, cincy players getting chippy. florida now too. this could get uglier.

  111. mctruck January 1, 2010 4:54 pm

Leach and Cincinnati should be a good match.

  112. chawan_cut January 1, 2010 4:54 pm

i wonder if urban will flip flop at the half

  113. d1島 January 1, 2010 4:57 pm

A good day for the old coaches…

  114. mctruck January 1, 2010 4:58 pm

come to think about it??..Leach and Kansas might be even better.

  115. Stephen Tsai January 1, 2010 4:59 pm

I guess, maybe, the Washington Wizards need to be called the Bullets again.

  116. mctruck January 1, 2010 5:01 pm

Well, the PAC-10 sure bottomed out didn’t they? (5L/2W). ouch!!!

  117. Chee! January 1, 2010 5:03 pm

Sugar Bowl …deja vu….just different jerseys..

  118. Ralph January 1, 2010 5:04 pm

Leach and Kansas, yup, come back to bite TT in the butt.

  119. Ralph January 1, 2010 5:05 pm

Teams are in opposite divisions, but there are cross over games.

  120. Ralph January 1, 2010 5:11 pm

I guess the interim HC for cincy won’t be retained as HC, no wait, we went through this last time around. He becomes the “feel good” hire for continuity and everyone has a job next season.

  121. Jason January 1, 2010 5:25 pm

Ralph: Jeff Quinn is going to be the HC at Buffalo.

  122. RedZone January 1, 2010 5:27 pm

The Bullets was my favorite team when they had Wes Unseld.

I am also having Sugar Bowl flashback. wow head coach heading for another team. hmmmmmm………..

  123. madeinhawaii January 1, 2010 5:51 pm

Was it just a year ago when our Warriors nearly upset Cincy? That should have indicated something going into today’s game.

  124. K. Mark Takai January 1, 2010 5:51 pm

Happy New Year! Here’s to a great 2010.

  125. jm2375 January 1, 2010 7:40 pm

    Próspero Año Nuevo!

  126. wafan January 1, 2010 7:49 pm

    WDoc . . .

Same arguement as the Y2K fiasco.

    2000 = end of 20th Century
    2001 = 1st year of 21st Century
2010 = end of 1st decade of the 21st Century
    2011 = 1st year of 2nd decade of the 21st Century

Measurement of 1″ = the zero point (beginning of the 1″ point) to the end of the 1″ point. Therefore, the end of the 1″ is at the 1″ point. Measurement of 10″ = the zero point (beginning of the 1″ point) to the end of the 10″ point. Therefore, the end of the 10″ is at the 10″ point.

And, as Jason pointed out there was no year zero. So the starting point is the year A.D. 1. Counting then, from A.D. 1 forward to A.D. 100 would give you 100 years or one century. The second century would begin on A.D. 101.

Much like the blog and my celebrations of 2nd Century (post 101), 3rd Century (post 201), etc.

  127. bighilofan2 January 1, 2010 7:49 pm

    Ralph,
    McTruck

Leach for Kansas head coach. The firing has all the earmarks of a spoiled father, trying to throw his mike around! $rew him. he’;s only ruining his kid and the kid’s “friend”, whose a friend right now but…

must really bite your buns, McTruck. My friend from close to Lubbock is a big Leach fan. Straight talker. Maybe a little bit braggadocio by some measure but my budedy thinks he’s tops. He made TT, and him not being there plus the crybaby factor is gonna hold em back. look to rise samoa.in Texas eyes

  128. bighilofan2 January 1, 2010 7:51 pm

I like a coach who stands up and fights for his integrity. never cry was an added bonus.

and he’s Mack’s friend. WoW ! I’d make the call with Kansas, if they asked.

  129. bighilofan2 January 1, 2010 7:54 pm

    ST

I’d reallyh be impressed if you had Leach on your show this Tuesday.

make that super supre impressed. 😀

but I am impressed anyway, 😀

  130. bighilofan2 January 1, 2010 7:55 pm

and a majory Happy New Years wishes to my BBF Da Punchbowl Kid

  132. bighilofan2 January 1, 2010 8:09 pm

The texas tech position coach supports Leach, saying Leach never endangered any player, that was his statement yesterday. and said he was against James on this one although he has side with James in past disputes with the coach.

translation, Leach gonna get some moolah.

Hopefully TT can outlast this big bruahaha between James and Leach.

Again, too bad the old man went public on this one. His boy is the loser.

thats how i see it playing out in the next week. imho.

  133. Da Punchbowl Kid January 1, 2010 8:14 pm

    🙂

  134. Da Punchbowl Kid January 1, 2010 8:15 pm

  142. Bulla January 1, 2010 8:35 pm

so it was a bowling kind of day, as i slept through 1 1/2 bowls, haha…all is well.

  143. madeinhawaii January 1, 2010 8:51 pm

    K Mark Takai…

Happy New Year to you and your family, too!… Thank you for your public service to our State and service to our Great Nation.

  144. madeinhawaii January 1, 2010 8:52 pm

    Bulla,

For the Sugar Bowl.. just replay the 2007 game.. imagine Florida as Georgia.. Cincy as Hawaii…

  145. cavewarrior January 1, 2010 9:05 pm

The J E T S have banned the sale of alcohol on Sunday at the stadium they’ve called home for 26 years…imagine if a ban in the virtual world were possible too…nah neva mind.

  146. NorthshoreFan January 1, 2010 9:19 pm

    Minasan, Shingnen Akimasite, Omedeto Gozaimasu!
    Anyhoo, HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Every year I tell myself, Self, you do not have to sample every dish on the table and every year I still try. I just came out of the self induced coma after attempting to sample very dish. When will this puppy learn.
Today was time for family and friends and therapy for my little Cassie. She was totally terrorized byt the bombs going off here on the Northshore last night. Glad to report that she is now eating.
I hope all the Tsaiko’s had a great day and enough football for the day.
Will Adam James now try to play for SMU?
Will the Tech, Hawaii recruits now come home to play?
Will the O-line and D-line be able to get it together for the 2010 opener?
Lots of question marks but should be another exciting year.
Mahalo Tsaiko’s for all the interesting post and comments. Wishing the 2010 will be one with out trolls.
    HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

  147. d1島 January 1, 2010 9:59 pm

    Glad you enjoyed Avatar, Stephen.

Did you see it in 3D IMAX?

  148. PowderPuff January 1, 2010 10:18 pm

Not that it matters, and sorry if it’s been mentioned earlier, but just realized today’s Sugar Bowl opponents bookended Hawaii’s 2008 regular-season schedule. Too many flashbacks to two years ago.

  149. al January 1, 2010 10:47 pm

    “oh my bags are packed
i’m ready to go….i’m leaving on
    a jet plane…”

the tune that coaches across the nation are singing as they head out for the final stretch run of the recruit season.

a lot of anxiety, anticipation, disappointment, and hope as the days approach February 3rd.

  150. Stephen Tsai January 1, 2010 11:14 pm

    bighilo:
While I do have Mike Leach’s cell number, it’s a video show, and 1) we’re not flying him in, and 2) we’re not going to Lubbock. Ever.

  151. Kekoa January 2, 2010 12:38 am

Bulla ~ Just read your post.

Kaptain Kapolei is now helping me clear the wine induced beverage coma certain Tsaiko’s had visited upon me.

I have a feeling that some of my resolutions have already been violated. What’s worse is the fact that I have no recollection of the past 48 hrs.

I have already issued a plea that all explosives/aerial fireworks cease on all of the ceded lands. Problem is, everyone is deaf now.

    Happy New Year!
