Tate on hold

UH’s plans to bring in Tate Forcier for an official recruiting visit are on hold while the school awaits his transcripts, according to people familiar with the situation. According to a source, Forcier’s mother left a message with school officials that the transcripts would arrive at UH Friday.

UH policy requires receipt of a prospect’s transcripts — whether he is eligible or not — as condition of taking an official recruiting trip. In an interview last week, Forcier acknowledged that his trip required producing an official transcript. Forcier did not return texts or phone messages today.

Linebacker Corey Paredes is on the Lombardi Trophy watch list (as nation’s best lineman or linebacker): The list.

Maybe it’s the finances of a college student.

Or maybe it’s the image.

But there’s a growing trend on the UH football team — and it’s growing on chins. Freshmen, veterans. Several are sporting beards.

“Imitation is the greatest form of flattery,” said offensive lineman Brett Leonard, who has the longest of the beards sported by Warriors.

Safety Brandon Leslie said he rarely shaves during football training.

“When it’s football time, I don’t care about the fashion,” Leslie said. “I let it grow out. Not trying to look pretty. I’m trying to handle football business.

Quarterback Bryant Moniz said: “It’s something unconscious. Maybe I’m trying to look older.”

Leonard has been growing his beard for eight months. At one point, it appeared to be jet black, similar to a certain San Francisco pitcher.

“I condition it every now and then,” Leonard said. “I’ll braid it pretty soon. Two little braids. One on each side, so it comes out of the chin strap.”

According to World Cop Sucker rules, and judging from their Ref’s calls…USA must score 2 goals in order to get credit for 1. We must always play one player short during the last 5 minutes of each match, AND be constantly reminded that there is no crying in World Cop Sucker.

Soccer is an interesting sport and it has some wonderful athletes.

But, c’mon, it does have an image problem when its fans have to keep reminding everyone that it’s an interesting sport with wonderful athletes.

Sort of like when people talk about the King’s Speech.

I hope UA/UH does a video like this when they release the new uniforms. Get the fans hyped up about the new look, new season, and purchasing some new jerseys/apparel.

  46. Bryson July 13, 2011 8:38 am

    IWWTHM,

The problem with uniforms is they never sell the actual style of the Uni’s there’s always something different from the official and the ones they sell to the public…If they sold the actual ones I would definitely buy them…For instance the previous jersey had all green sleeves but no design on them…I go to walmart and they have a way better looking one with the tapa design just like the authentic ones…

Soccer is great when all the world is watching as it stirs emotional of pride for your country.

Soccer is a world game because it is simple and all you need is a ball…or a can…or a……head. It can be played anywhere, anytime and sans any impetus more than to happily pass the time in a brief respite to life and one’s surrounding circumstances.

In Europe, it is like that all the time because of the proximity of the countries and the history and competitive conflict that has defined them through time. It is the competitive bragging rights not directly dictated by war or political strife.

In America, soccer is still growing, but the competitve pride as a sport of choice wanes in comparison to the rest of the world. The choices American youths have are many in regards to athletics and parents face a growing dilemma of alternatives and time management. Still, it is slowly becoming a mainstream sport and Americans have lots of pride and definitely love to compete. U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!…

Boise is interesting in that it’s a straight line from the airport to downtown. But going back to the airport, using the freeway, you have to loop around the city.

  64. BigWave96744 July 13, 2011 9:04 am

Hi Stephen, did you mean the Bronco’s are Idaho’s team? Because what other schools or sports teams reside in Boise? Aside from BSU, the only thing I can relate to Boise is paper and lumber 🙂

  65. A-joe July 13, 2011 9:04 am

    Hau’oli La Hanau, Myki!

    ‘Gmorning Gang!

In college I had European soccer fans tell me American Football is boring. What they saw was 6 seconds of periodic action with 2 minutes of players jogging on and off the field, huddling up, standing around and getting ready for another 6 seconds of sporadic action.

    “Booorring!!” they laughingly explained.

To which I replied, “Oh yeah?! Well my linebacker and KICK your linebacker’s ass any day, brah!”

The topic quickly turned to Boris Becker and tennis.

  66. iwonderwhytheyhateme July 13, 2011 9:04 am

As the rainbow warriors people got away with wearing any of ROYGBIV colors. Now as just the Warriors and including black and silver people got confuzzled. =p.

Rainbowtique should push Green colored apparel as much as possible. I remember seeing a lot of grey and black in there.

  67. Stephen Tsai July 13, 2011 9:05 am

Sorry to hear GA losing a recruit, but that just gives him an opportunity to recruit more.

It really seems like he loves to recruit.

Imagine if he had 25 scholarships, like in football?

  68. d1shima July 13, 2011 9:07 am

I think Idaho used to provide a competitive rivalry at one time.

  69. Stephen Tsai July 13, 2011 9:08 am

    Big Wave:

I meant that in most towns, the folks support the home team. In Boise, it seems everyone supports the Broncos. Don’t see people wearing Vandal shirts, although a good number of Idaho graduates live in Boise.

By the way, glad to see you out there yesterday.

And thanks for bringing the rain.

  70. BigWave96744 July 13, 2011 9:08 am

But then of course wearing Idaho or Idaho St clothes in the state of Idaho is like sporting Texas St or UTSan Antonio in Texas or FlInt or FAU in the sunshine state

  71. d1shima July 13, 2011 9:09 am

    Is BOI a small town?

Their “RAC center” can fit inside Wahine SB Stadium

  72. Stephen Tsai July 13, 2011 9:09 am

I bet UH could start selling retro Anthony Carter, Garrett Gabriel, Niko Noga and Fabulous Five jerseys.

  73. Stephen Tsai July 13, 2011 9:10 am

And I bet if they did, Stretch would wear Fabulous Five aloha-print shorts on the golf course.

  74. BigWave96744 July 13, 2011 9:10 am

Yup, brought the 96744 rain, as usual 🙁

  76. Da Punchbowl Kid July 13, 2011 9:12 am

Good news for Corey, best of luck to him!

GA has a knack for making lemonade outta lemons. He’s nothing if not resourceful. Das one of the reasons why he’s such a good coach.

Wow…just got a thank-you email from Tom as I was writing this… he said “…it was great to finally see all the bloggers in person–tell everyone thanks for coming and saying hello… also can you post that I have 25 tickets left for San Jose…”.

  87. warriorsun July 13, 2011 10:01 am

leslie comes from edison high in fresno which produces fbs-dbs like slh and kahuku manufacture linemen. brandon’s tiger teammate at edison, oregon all-american cb and punt returner, cliff harris, paid his traffic-fine and returned to voluntary workouts after a brief hiatus. harris remains suspended. here is a quote from a duck teammate,

“It’s good to see him back in there,” said UO senior cornerback Anthony Gildon, the captain of Oregon’s defensive backfield. “He’ll be good. He’s a hard-working individual. You know, everybody makes mistakes; it’s not that big of a deal. He’s here to work. …

“Of course we’re going to try and help him mature as he goes along, but he’s a good kid and he’ll be all right.”

“not that big of a deal?”. that is coming from the captain of the def backs?

oh, boy, makes one wonder what these ducks do in a crowded subway for fun.

harris was pulled over for going 118 mph on I-5 South. he was not clocked returning a punt at autzen stadium. the car was rented by a school official who was not in the car. i guess if that is not a big deal neither is hiring a recruiting service to contact and influence high school recruits. the ncaa is investigating both incidents. the recruiting service flap involves a whistle-blower.

    ST and jm2375 re: #60,

Why is it that Stevens has to earn an Associate degree before coming here? Why can’t he just finish his high school credits and come here like Shaquille Stokes? Does anyone know the likelihood of at least Blakes and Biggs coming here this season?

  97. Kevin July 13, 2011 10:26 am

    IWWTHM,

Soon I believe more green will be sold and this is a result of, what I’m told, is more and MORE requests from customers about GREEN colored merchandise.

I mean IT’S ONE OF OUR SCHOOL’S EFFING PRIMARY COLORS AND A COLOR ASSOCIATED WITH THE STATE AS WELL!!!!!!! Not black, and NOT SILVER.

Cannot deny tradition, tradition… ya know, that thing people mention is lacking at UH.

  98. SteveM July 13, 2011 10:26 am

    RE: #91

gigi — I don’t think Maple Garden has superceded Camellia. Depends on the cuisine/occasion and table arrangement. In fact, Camellia, Maple Garden, and Genji’s was considered for this Cattle Call where we meet and talk with someone new. Table arrangement matters in this case–when a person sits at a table for 4, all the others who attend are separated.

Maple Garden has round tables for 8-10. Genji has flexible arrangements and a round table-like private room for 12. Since I figured the last-minute Cattle Call count would be low (and I’ve been eating too many chicken katsu’s the past week), Maple Garden was choosen. But Camellia was in definite consideration, especially with an expected low attendee count.

  100. warriorsun July 13, 2011 10:26 am

evidentially, stevens is a non-qualifier and cannot transfer until he receives his associate degree from juco. that is the ncaa rule for N-Qs. according to accounts, blakes and biggs are taking summer courses so they can become qualifiers and enroll at uh this fall.

PARK CITY, UTAH – This past weekend WAC Football Officials participated in a football officials’ clinic in Park City, Utah. The officials always meet annually for a clinic to go over the rules of the game and how they are to be interpreted nationally, but this is the first time the WAC has formatted it as an on-the-field clinic.

The purpose of the football officials’ clinic is to ensure that all football officials interpret the rules correctly and uniformly. The officials see videos and powerpoints, polish their knowledge on rule changes, and then get out on the field to actively demonstrate their understanding of what they have learned.

what you think tsaikos, will it help

  105. warriorsun July 13, 2011 10:36 am

JJ’s original plan was to keep switching colors on paraphernalia to sell more uh sports merchandize. his reasoning, fans, usually buy a jersey, cap, etc., and keep it forever. but, if UHAD gets the short-stick on commissions–the pennies, literally, dont add-up.

  106. iwonderwhytheyhateme July 13, 2011 10:38 am

    #97 Kevin,

I hope this is the case Kevin. I know that as a selling point they want to have different colors because not everyone may want to wear a green shirt but I think a few times I went in and saw more grey and black shirts on those cubicle stacks than I saw green.

  107. iwonderwhytheyhateme July 13, 2011 10:41 am

I am pretty sure the colors of the University of Hawaii at Manoa are Green and White.

At least that’s what the Chancellor told our group during new student orientation. Then again he didn’t last that long as our chancellor.

  108. iwonderwhytheyhateme July 13, 2011 10:42 am

Are the football officiating crews still a mix of Pac12/MWC/WAC officials?

  110. Kevin July 13, 2011 10:43 am

    Kefe Joe Moore.

    I don’t watch him.

I realized GREEN was UH’s color (next to white) oh when I was… ummm…. 5, 7 years old. so you figga 23ish years of THINKING that, it tends to be TRADITION.

TRADITION. You know, and IDENTITY associated with what you support.

USA women should have height advantage over Japan.

Hope they use their strengths and keep the ball up in the air.

Gotta ask boss for time off on Sunday to watch World Cup.

Ooops, forgot, someone renting our shop to have a nutritional class

  114. Kevin July 13, 2011 10:59 am

    IWWTHM,

GREEN and WHITE are our school colors.

Dunno why this even needs to be questioned.

For a yet-to-be-announced price, your group could enjoy on-field, end-zone seating with food and beverage service at University of Hawaii home football games this year.

Aloha Stadium is talking with its marketing partner, Aloha Sports Properties, and UH about offering 38 so-called VIP seats this season, officials said.

The seating will be on raised platforms fronting the baseball dugouts, which will be enclosed and air conditioned with large-screen TV monitors. The platform is cushioned for player protection, officials said.

interesting to see how this will be associated to UH athletic program

  117. iwonderwhytheyhateme July 13, 2011 11:03 am

joe moore thinks our colors are something different?

  118. iwonderwhytheyhateme July 13, 2011 11:11 am

I don’t know why this is a topic of discussion either…but for maybe the new fans out there?

“A popular campus symbol is the rainbow, a frequent sight in Manoa valley. Green and white are UH Manoa’s colors.”

    http://www.catalog.hawaii.edu/about-uh/university.htm

Very last sentence on the page…

  119. Kevin July 13, 2011 11:15 am

RE: “VIP” seats at Aloha Stadium

Maybe, I’m not reading the article very well, but it seems to me there is no clear explaination as to WHO would benefit from the sales of tickets to this proposed VIP area.

If UH ATHLETICS doesn’t get it, they could have live donkey shows in that area for all I care.

for the record…maple garden is technically not the official name of the restaurant. it was bought by the former owner of yen king restaurant in kahala mall and the store is aptly named yen king.

however, richard, the new owner realized that folks kept referring to the restaurant as maple garden, decided not to eliminate the name.

when richard moved over i figured we’d give him a try because the food was always a favorite of ours at the old site.

the food’s good and the price is right.

I used to like Yen King in Kahala.

My parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary there.

However, we stopped dining there after we noticed so much oil in the food.

I guess the chef poured too much oil into the wok.

  138. Old Diver July 13, 2011 12:00 pm

The article on the SanDiego State/Huskie game clearly stated it was a one time thing. I’m pretty sure we had a home and home contract with Washington.

  139. duh! July 13, 2011 12:01 pm

  140. iwonderwhytheyhateme July 13, 2011 12:06 pm

    #137,

One of the things with Washington is that they are VERY difficult to schedule out of conference…A 1-1 is painfully difficult for mid-majors to do. Even 1-2’s aren’t that easy.

If you go on the SDSU boards you will have read about how hard their AD has tried to schedule Washington..even if its a 1-and-done deal.

I really took for granted our ability to schedule Washington prior to reading about this. It’s probably easier for us to do a H-H series because they want to come here and recruit.

  143. Iwonderwhytheyhateme July 13, 2011 12:47 pm

The SJSU boards believe that Tate is going to sign with them.

Wonder how they about it now after Colt’s endorsement of UH.

  144. warriorsun July 13, 2011 12:53 pm

cory and aaron brown are obvious omissions on D.

i wouldnt pay much attention to the individual honors, that will come with conference performance and record. what is striking is the the team finish–hawaii is picked to finish #1.

somewhat puzzling since we only have two-starters returning on offense. it is a direct credit to our O-system and program.

  145. Curt July 13, 2011 12:57 pm

    Happy Birthday Myki and Shauna!

  146. Stephen Tsai July 13, 2011 1:03 pm

  147. Curt July 13, 2011 1:05 pm

    iwwthm

#143 Maybe UH decided not to bring in da Force. That could explain why he hasn’t returned any of ST’s tweets. In combination with the fact of recent (?) rumors from San Jose State, Tate may be taking da force elsewhere. It’s circumstantial…but as Sgt Schultz would say, “berrie interesting.”

  148. warriorsun July 13, 2011 1:06 pm

based on tate’s telecon with tsai, the former wolverine is wearing his thinking cap. he cited his brother’s relationship with colt at mater dei, the 2012 warrior starting vacancy @ QB, our offensive system and the weather….rolo and mac should tie-in the loose ends when he arrives. rolo is young and mouse is the guru. what else is there? oh, yeah, a warrior date with usc in our 2012 opener, when tate debuts…. the trojan’s snubbed mr forcier, claiming they had an abundance of qbs in their stable, but contacted a nebraska qb-transfer (cody green) to visit their campus.

  149. Curt July 13, 2011 1:06 pm

    ST

#146 That’s a bad sign for someone who’s supposedly interested.

  150. Stephen Tsai July 13, 2011 1:09 pm

Mom notified school the transcripts would be arriving Friday.

  151. gigi-hawaii July 13, 2011 1:11 pm

I hope Tate doesn’t have issues with his grades.

    Let’s hope for the best.

  152. warriorsun July 13, 2011 1:12 pm

tate was taking on-line courses to fill the breach–are those completed?

  153. Curt July 13, 2011 1:17 pm

    gigi

#151 Tate does have some issues with his grades. That’s why I believe he’s taking these online courses.

  154. warriorsun July 13, 2011 1:22 pm

tate is an accurate thrower. that should ring bells. and he loves to improvise out-of-the-pocket and throws on the run with ease. another bell went off. it took colt one season before he felt comfortable with our offense to confidently hang in and read his progressions, but colt didnt redshirt at hawaii. moniz also ran alot in his first year–mostly for his life.

add it up–big arm, accurate and nimble feet to scamble under pressure.

  155. Curt July 13, 2011 1:23 pm

If the transcripts are arriving on Friday, I would think that the coaches would review them first before bringing Tate in for a visit. Otherwise, Tate should just carry it with him on the visit. I’m getting better at deciphering these subterranean messages; I’ve been trained by al.

  156. Curt July 13, 2011 1:25 pm

In other words, I don’t think da Force will be us this week.

  157. Iwonderwhytheyhateme July 13, 2011 1:25 pm

Can an official visit be done without the transcripts officially in receipt by UH???

  158. Iwonderwhytheyhateme July 13, 2011 1:29 pm

Nevermind I just read the top regarding transcripts

  159. Glenn July 13, 2011 1:30 pm

    Kevin;

    I’m with you.

To me, people can buy UH mdse in every color under the sun, but they should wear only green to UH games.

  160. koakane July 13, 2011 1:30 pm

imho if tate makes it, all is good if not just move on and re-focus

something like 50 odd or so day till warrior ball can you just feel it

  161. Curt July 13, 2011 1:31 pm

    iwwthm

#157 I would think so. I’m just speculating that Mack wants to review the transcripts first before spending $ on airfare and accomodations.

  162. Curt July 13, 2011 1:36 pm

    iwwthm

I just read ST’s update on Forcier too. I guessed correctly about the transcripts precluding the visit. I give the credit to my trainer, al, da sensei.

  163. Curt July 13, 2011 1:43 pm

Thanks Stephen for the Forcier update.

  164. Kevin July 13, 2011 1:47 pm

    Glenn,

Maybe if “FOKAI” and “TAP OUT” had green or white shirts, then it would look like the stadium is in unison. 😆 😆 😆 😆

  165. Kevin July 13, 2011 1:48 pm

I wouldn’t be surprised to hear how many UH coaches got “burned” on transcript-related things.

Not always the fault of UH admissions either.

  166. Garret July 13, 2011 1:50 pm

UH turned down multiple offers for $1 mil for 1-and-done deals with Big 10 and SEC schools, so SDSU getting $850k does *not* impress me. UH’s policy is to try to get home-and-home deals instead of 1-and-done or 2-for-1 deals like other schools sign (Utah, BYU, SDSU, SJSU, NMSU, etc.).

When the schools come to Aloha Stadium, UH makes a TON of money. The USC game at Aloha Stadium generated $1.4 mil for UH in ticket sales for the game (plus, I bet that game helped sell season tickets and parking passes). UH just paid USC $300k to cover their travel expenses, just like UH gets $300k for travel expenses when UH will play at USC.

It should be noted that Washington travels to Aloha Stadium to play UH while they don’t play in San Diego…it is impossible to compare the two situations.

  167. Garret July 13, 2011 1:52 pm

It is pretty sad that the transcripts are delaying the visit, but Universities can be really slow at sending those out. Forcier was also taking that online class and we don’t know how recently that finished.

  168. Garret July 13, 2011 1:53 pm

Congratulations to AFL Ironman Player of the Week Mike Washington.

Washington (5-8, 175, Hawaii) was a threat on the ground and in the air for Pittsburgh Power in their losing effort to Arizona, 34-68. Washington scored 24 of Pittsburgh’s 34 points. Three touchdowns came through the air, while one came from a 57-yard kickoff return in the third quarter. Washington ended the night with 228 kickoff return yards, 63 receiving yards, four total touchdowns and one tackle.

  169. Stephen Tsai July 13, 2011 1:55 pm

If I give him the benefit of the doubt, I would say it’s probably not easy to get transcripts.

I needed to get a UH pay agreement once, and it took almost two weeks. I paid in cash, so it was funny that they photo-copied my $10 bill.

  170. gigi-hawaii July 13, 2011 1:55 pm

and to be OFFICIAL, the transcripts have to be sent by the school not by the student.

  171. Stephen Tsai July 13, 2011 1:56 pm

What I also understand, because he was not in good standing when he left Michigan, he might have to walk on in the fall, then go on scholie in January, which is what everyone suggests, anyway.

  172. Garret July 13, 2011 1:58 pm

Interesting report from someone who sat in the “VIP” area last season at Aloha Stadium.

I was fortunate enough to sit in that dugout platform last year. I can assure you that you cannot see a thing. Just too far and too low to actually watch the game live. There were TVs in the dugout though which was nice except that there was no audio by the TV guys.

The term VIP is used very very loosely here.

    http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=219&f=1136&t=7667460

    ST,

Yes, I already posted my strong preference for having Forcier walk on and earn his scholarship. This is especially true since he was in bad Academic standing at Michigan. If UH gives Forcier a scholarship and he gets bad grades, UH get hurt with the APR. If he walks on, there is no APR effect.

I was wondering what enhancement would be made to the dugout. Coached for many year at the stadium and sitting at that level one can not see a thing. Add to that the stuff and peeps surrounding the field better just to watch the TVs and parte on.

OFF-SPORTS TOPIC – SKIP IT IF YOU AREN’T INTO DOING GOOD.

    BOOKS, BAGS & MORE

    DONATION DRIVE

    SATURDAY, JULY 16

    KANE`OHE DISTRICT PARK

    9 am – 11 am

    KAKA`AKO MAKAI MARKETPLACE

    10 am – 4 pm

On Saturday, July 16, the Windward Homeless Coalition with help from the First Unitarian Church of Honolulu and Faith Action in Community Equity – FACE – will hold two drives to collect gently-used books, toys, sports equipment & games for kids of all ages including teenagers along with reusable shopping bags to give away at community-based homeless/at-risk service projects here on O`ahu in upcoming months.

The first donation drive will be held from 9 am to 11 am on Saturday, July 16, next to the main parking lot at Kane`ohe District Park on Kea`ahala Road going mauka towards Windward Community College. Look for the white pop-up tent next to driveway.

The second drive will be held the same day from 10 am to 4 pm at the Kaka`ako Makai Marketplace in the large parking lot across from Children’s Discovery Center in the Kaka`ako Waterfront Park. The Marketplace is a new project jointly sponsored by the Hawai`I Community Development Authority which is part of the Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism, several area legislators, and a couple of local non-profits. KMM focuses on local farmers & small businesses, artists, entertainers & NGOs providing a wide range of services. Walk through the Marketplace until you find the display.

The items donated will passed out at the next WHC service project for homeless, at-risk, low-income, and seniors living in Ko`olauloa and along the North Shore on Tuesday, July 26, from 9 am to 1 pm in the Kahuku Hospital’s back parking lot.

Please let your work colleagues, neighbors, local businesses, sports teams, and faith groups know about the two drives on July 16.

NOTE: My “day” job is with an environmental non-profit which strongly supported state & county legislation over the past several years to reduce the number of plastic shopping bags because so many of them wind up as trash in waterways and along the roads.

For example, this past April during our Earth Day Service Project, in less than three hours volunteers collected more than a thousand bags on the roadways, waterways, and in the bushes surrounding Kawainui Marsh.

I then decided that one small way to reduce the number of plastic bags is to pass out reusable bags at the Windward Homeless Coalition’s own service projects since many of our clients live outdoors.

In all honesty, I’d cringe whenever I had to use plastic bags at Coalition service projects. Giving out free reusable bags makes sense.

I suspect that each person reading this probably has at least a dozen reusable bags stashed away in kitchen and desk drawers and in the back seat of her/his car. Why not share three or four of them?

Our goal is to collect at least 500 reusable bags this first time out. As we collect more, we will share them with other NGOs providing services to folks who need help.

  180. papajoe2 July 13, 2011 2:14 pm

I wondered about the section that they going to build in or by the dugouts. If you ever been to our stadium and sat at the lower seats along the 50 yard line, you wouldn’t be able to see the game with the players standing along the sideline. Some of the players even stand on their benches, making it even worst. To be at field level for what I believe would be elevated prices, to me, isn’t as good as it seems.

  181. Kevin July 13, 2011 2:20 pm

The worst place to watch at game at the stadium is in the parking lot.

Also interesting how collectors would pay hundreds of thousands for the souvenir.

Which has me wondering: Of all of the UH memorabilia, which would you like to own?

Colt Brennan’s helmet? Riley Wallace’s jacket? Derek Tatsuno ball?

  190. Laura July 13, 2011 3:02 pm

ST, #183, they should make the Rich Sheriff end-line section the 1st VIP Section, that way could garner more money, what do you think?

  191. greenthumb July 13, 2011 3:02 pm

#187: Red Rocha autograph on anything but especially on a jersey.

Definitely NOT a Tark towel! 😀

  192. chopsueyboy July 13, 2011 3:04 pm

    Colt Brennan’s helmet

  193. Kevin July 13, 2011 3:17 pm

    Riley Wallace sports coat.

(Essentially already have Brennan’s helmet… sort of)

  194. TChahng via DroidX July 13, 2011 3:20 pm

    Derek Tatsuno’s jersey.

  195. Laura July 13, 2011 3:27 pm

TChahng, #194, now that would be something since that jersey is the only UH Athletic jersey that will never be worn again, as far as I know.

  196. Kevin July 13, 2011 3:34 pm

Actually, I want that 3rd (or was it 4th place?) consolation trophy that the former UCLA softball coach threw in the trash at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium years ago.

  197. Kevin July 13, 2011 3:36 pm

Speaking of helmet, I still think Colt should have punched out that fan that tried to steal his helmet on the field.

  198. GoodLookingPake July 13, 2011 3:36 pm

With one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel !!!

I hope Edwards and Forcier make it here to Hawaii, before I slip !!!

    and its getting slippery….

  199. Couch potato July 13, 2011 3:38 pm

    #32 is retired in football.

    also.

  200. Stephen Tsai July 13, 2011 3:40 pm

  204. Laura July 13, 2011 3:45 pm

Couch Potato, #199, Jersey #32 in football, did not know that, who wore it? Knew about Les’s #11, tho.

  205. NYUH July 13, 2011 3:46 pm

Miss the Warrior Beat Show. Bring it back!

  206. Couch potato July 13, 2011 3:47 pm

    Tom Kaulukukui.

  207. Laura July 13, 2011 3:47 pm

GLP, #202, think you are caught between the 2 right now, due to Forcier.

  208. duffer July 13, 2011 3:52 pm

    Riley’s golf swing!

  209. GoodLookingPake July 13, 2011 3:53 pm

    #207…Yeah, you are correct…

I still got one foot in the grave…But I took my other foot off of the banana peel

  210. iwonderwhytheyhateme July 13, 2011 3:57 pm

ST, thanks much for the update on Forcier…Albeit not a very happy update haha.

  211. Stephen Tsai July 13, 2011 4:01 pm

    IWWTHM:

It’s just difficult getting a hold of him.

  213. GoodLookingPake July 13, 2011 4:03 pm

    Go papaya’s !

  214. LizKauai July 13, 2011 4:05 pm

#164 – I love that idea. During fb season, it would be cool if TapOut and BudiGroove BarefootLeague and others sold Green and White editions of their normal stuff… just to support the Warriors!

  215. GoodLookingPake July 13, 2011 4:06 pm

    #212…Chopsueyboy…

    you are so correct !!!

  216. GoodLookingPake July 13, 2011 4:10 pm

Can I simply say what a reduction to find someone who truly is aware of what theyre talking about on the internet. You undoubtedly know the right way to bring a problem to gentle and make it important. More individuals need to learn this and understand this facet of the story. I cant consider youre no more standard because you positively have the gift.

  219. Keenan Sutic July 13, 2011 4:20 pm

Hi there, I need to say I really like your site but I feel your content would REALLY benefit from downloading the SEOpressor plugin.

  220. iwonderwhytheyhateme July 13, 2011 4:21 pm

    #211,

We all gotta give him the benefit of the doubt. I know what its like to request transcripts…I dont know if you can get preferential treatment but once at UH it took 2 weeks for me to get official ones.

  221. bb July 13, 2011 4:39 pm

    #172…

The VIP section can be rented out for $1500 per game which includes 18 seats. (For Diamond and Platinum Sponsors–Not sure how much general public would be)

If you want the food you need to pay on top of the $1500. The dugout seating was nice with I believe was a few 32″ flat screens. It was air conditioned but again, the dugout is totally sealed off. You would have no clue that there is an actual game going on outside because most of the “sounds of the game” are towards the field (which is distance wise far from the dugout) and you have the AC running as well. It was actually pretty quiet in there. I never quite understood why they would show video of the game (from the PPV feed) but they could not play any audio (No Jim Leahey et. al)

The seats are slightly off the ground but again, still very far from the action. Then again, for just about a hundred bucks per head, to be literally on the field might be worth it for some.

IMHO, they need to cut the amount of people that roam the sidelines. Each year it looks like more and more people, support staff, kids, fans, whomever is roaming the sidelines. I am guilty myself but I can’t see how it cannot be a distraction to have all those extra fans just feet behind and on the sides of the bench.

OR the stadium could build platforms in the corners. During the Pro Bowl they had these mini stages in which cheerleaders danced and entertainers did their thing. I could see those areas being a better VIP experience, with much better sightlines and you can still have all the food and beer you like.

  222. Kevin July 13, 2011 4:47 pm

I was actually being sarcastic about MMA brand shirts like “FOKAI” and “TAPOUT”.

It was a joke about the sterotypical stuff da kanaks wear everywhere they go.

  223. Kevin July 13, 2011 4:49 pm

Wish Butigroove brought back the ‘bows bfor hos” shirt.

Was VERY popular amongst the students and most younger people for both men and women.

  224. gigi-hawaii July 13, 2011 5:04 pm

blast from the past: Liz wearing a Redskins jersey at my home in 2008.

How many other jerseys do you own, Liz?

    http://gigihawaii.wordpress.com/2008/11/23/liz-kekoa-and-suzanne/

  225. gigi-hawaii July 13, 2011 5:05 pm

are jerseys comfortable to wear, or are they hot?

what kind of fabric are they made of?

  226. iwonderwhytheyhateme July 13, 2011 5:07 pm

    #225,

they are made out of jersey fabrics and are hot only if you are in the heat.

  227. gigi-hawaii July 13, 2011 5:32 pm

Liz, do you still follow and support the Redskins – even though Colt is no longer there?

  228. gigi-hawaii July 13, 2011 5:38 pm

sorry, to see Liz, click on this link:

  229. Kevin July 13, 2011 5:39 pm

Under Armour fan gear will be essential for that afternoon BYU game set for 2:30pm.

  230. gigi-hawaii July 13, 2011 5:40 pm

Kevin, it should be cool in December, tho.

  234. myki July 13, 2011 6:44 pm

    Good evening to all!!

Thank you so much for the warm birthday wishes. I’ve long passed the age when you would rather forget the day, but it does arrive without fail each year. I can only be thankful for another year filled with great memories of time spent with family and awesome friends.

I’m really looking forward to the beginning of the football season. We haven’t been up to watch any of the unsupervised practices but anxiously awaiting fall camp.

Hope to see many of you on the 6th at the practice tail gate.

Again mahalo for all your thoughts and kind words.

  235. gigi-hawaii July 13, 2011 6:57 pm

Kevin, don’t bring that up, ok? It’s just too horrible to read again.

  236. gigi-hawaii July 13, 2011 6:59 pm

In my blog tomorrow, I have made a promise — not to read the S-A and not to watch TV news ever again.

I would rather be an ignoramus than read about an 8 yr old boy being cut up and thrown into the trash and refrierator.

ugh. no news is good news.

  237. Laura July 13, 2011 7:06 pm

Gigi, what do you not want Kevin to bring up, and why is so horrible??

  238. Laura July 13, 2011 7:07 pm

Kevin, what are you talking about?

  239. Laura July 13, 2011 7:26 pm

Ah, but Kevin is talking about a man, not a child, still confused. 🙁

  240. haka July 13, 2011 7:30 pm

    deja vu all over again…

  241. Kevin July 13, 2011 7:33 pm

    Gigi,

Real life is brutal and uncensored.

All curious parties should refer to your favorite news putlet.

Leno and Letterman will have material for a year now.

  242. gigi-hawaii July 13, 2011 7:46 pm

My real life is babysitting my grandkids or going to a fancy restaurant with hubby.

    Nothing brutal and grotesque.

I love my life. Too bad the same can’t be said by other people.

  243. Laura July 13, 2011 7:49 pm

Gigi, you forgot 2 very important other things, Tsaiko events, and traveling, with hubby.

  244. gigi-hawaii July 13, 2011 7:58 pm

We rarely attend Tsaiko events and we travel once a year or every 2 years. So not very important.

  245. d1shima July 13, 2011 8:01 pm

I thought someone read your blog all the time?

  246. gigi-hawaii July 13, 2011 8:05 pm

d1, so far my blog has been viewed over 407,000 times.

but I bet the Warrior Beat has been viewed much more than that!

  247. Laura July 13, 2011 8:07 pm

Gigi, I thought you attended the Tsaiko tailgates, all the time, tho.

  248. Laura July 13, 2011 8:07 pm

Gigi, how long ago did you start your blog?

  249. gigi-hawaii July 13, 2011 8:10 pm

    Nov 20, 2006

  250. Laura July 13, 2011 8:13 pm

Whoa, you had the blog running that long. Just curious, what made you start the blog?

  251. Laura July 13, 2011 8:14 pm

Gigi, I could not continue to do something like that for that long. You are an amazing lady.

  252. gigi-hawaii July 13, 2011 8:15 pm

    for fun, of course!

  253. gigi-hawaii July 13, 2011 8:16 pm

ST, didn’t you start the WB on July 23, 2006?

  254. what? July 13, 2011 8:21 pm

    #246

Isn’t it true that you have used the Warrior Beat as your prime marketing venue for your blog?

How many views do you attribute to the Warrior Beat?

    Er, just saying.

  255. gigi-hawaii July 13, 2011 8:27 pm

Right now, 45 clicks from the WB out of

311 total for the day up to now.

so the percentage of WB readers is very small.

  256. gigi-hawaii July 13, 2011 8:31 pm

The most clicks i got was 1,622 the day after the recent tsunami.

In that post, I showed pics of the devastation on the various islands.

  257. d1shima July 13, 2011 8:38 pm

So what are UHAD’s options for replacing Texas St. in 2012?

  258. HEINEKEN July 13, 2011 8:41 pm

lets scehdule texas i know its impossible but they could use a 13th game since theres no big12 championship anymore

  259. d1shima July 13, 2011 8:44 pm

    TMU?

    Oklahoma Tech?

  260. d1shima July 13, 2011 8:46 pm

    Waipahu Jackrabbits?

    Kapahulu Raiders?

  261. Laura July 13, 2011 8:47 pm

    Bring on the Sooners!!!! 🙂

  262. Laura July 13, 2011 8:49 pm

Gigi, how did you get those pics, of devastation, from the other islands?

  263. Laura July 13, 2011 8:50 pm

Gigi, btw, when you swim with the porpoises, no need worry about the weather, cause you will be wet already. hahaha

  264. HEINEKEN July 13, 2011 8:50 pm

I gaurentee mack has a scholarship for mr forcier

  268. d1shima July 13, 2011 9:10 pm

Could Hawaii be eligible for the CINC Trophy in ’13?

  269. Laura July 13, 2011 9:22 pm

Gigi, hope you have to get to your hotel room via the little boat that the hotel uses, that would be a treat. 🙂

  270. Kevin July 13, 2011 9:43 pm

Holy crap. I knew MySpace and Facebook were referred to as the “ultimate stalker sites”, but gah daym..

    Here we go again.

Well, the masquerade and the bullcrap should stop once the fall sports season starts and the Rainbow Wahine volleyball season resumes.

  271. Kevin July 13, 2011 9:48 pm

Oh and in the news, a woman in California cut off her husband’s penis and threw it in the food dispenser.

On a side note, I like my life too, but I know what happens in the REAL world and it ain’t tea parties and cruise ship stories all the time. I would need to be on drugs to believe that… OR have an overwhelming sense of arrogance.

Life is a good thing, got a lot of good and bad and we need that balance. Keeps us down to earth and reminds us to appreciate things to avoid being spoiled.

  272. Kevin July 13, 2011 9:49 pm

    Speaking of real life…

    “Laura”, so why “Laura”?

  273. Kevin July 13, 2011 9:49 pm

    Laura,

When did you start posting on the blog? AS “Laura”?

  274. iwonderwhytheyhateme July 13, 2011 9:50 pm

I would absolutely love the opportunity to play Texas..even if it was a one-and-done deal.

Going to watch a game at Darell Royal Stadium and seeing Godzillatron is something I have always wanted to do.

Mr. JD…oh hear my plea…make it happen. =)

  275. Kevin July 13, 2011 9:52 pm

    “Laura”,

I changed my blog name from Kazz to my real first name when I suggested people should do that and would probably eliminate some cowards that like to throw stones from a distance away with masks on. Some guy called me out on it, so I backed up my crap.

What are your thoughts on that?

  276. Kevin July 13, 2011 9:53 pm

    “Laura”,

There is a facebook link at the top of this page. Anyone is free to join facebook.

It’s preferred that people use their real identites though. Lot of people on facebook. You might find it interesting.

  277. iwonderwhytheyhateme July 13, 2011 9:54 pm

My **wish** list opponents for Hawaii.

Alabama?…It was fun watching them come here and us going there. Wonder if Saban would be interested.

Penn State…watch Joe Pa in person before the buggah retires.

    Georgia

    Oklahoma

  278. Kevin July 13, 2011 9:55 pm

    *break*

stalking is hard. I dunno how some people do it.

Easier to do when you think you are someone else as soon as you change your blog name I guess..

    Anyway../.

  279. Kevin July 13, 2011 9:56 pm

    IWWTHM,

Dude, we gotta get UCLA down here.

Sure, not that great of a football program now or recently, but just for the sake of it.

They’ve duck-dived Hawaii Nei for too long.

  280. Kevin July 13, 2011 9:58 pm

    “Laura”,

You and Gigi seem like you can get along.

Perhaps you could also start a personal blog and you two can chat away.

  281. Kevin July 13, 2011 9:58 pm

    Ah! Enough!

    I gotta go #2 and I’m tired.

  282. iwonderwhytheyhateme July 13, 2011 9:59 pm

  290. HEINEKEN July 13, 2011 10:35 pm

UCLA is booked for 2012…Texas is booked for 2012 unless they play an extra 13th game…West Virginia?Cal?Oregon?Arizona all have only 2 non conference games in 2012.I know the PAC12 has 12 teams and could play 10 teams in the conference but USC , UCLA ,Washington has 3 non conference games in 2012

  291. Slugger July 13, 2011 10:35 pm

Interesting thing, the “find” function in your browser…

Today, do a find on “gigi-hawaii:” and I see 33 comments so far

Find on “Kevin:” and there’s 29 comments.

…don’t forget the colon after the name.

…. both have around 10% of the blog comments so far, but gigi would be behind if she did not make that run for 300. 😆

Anyone here up for a Very Special Event?

On Thursday, July 14, DrDoc and I are celebrating DaGov’s signature of a bill yesterday that had been put on his veto list – it is now ACT 233 – 2011.

The change in heart caught both the bill’s sponsor and me off guard. At 2 pm on Monday, I was told by a very reliable source that it was still going to be nixed. I don’t know what happened to change his mind and probably will never find out.

Here are the VSE detials: Please join us at 5:30 pm at the base of the Makapu`u Lighthouse Trail for a 40 minute hike up to the top starting around 5:45 pm. After watching the full moon rise up out of the water shortly after 7 pm, we’ll head back down the trail and drive into Hawaii Kai for a hosted dinner to wrap up our celebration.

Because the parking lot gates are closed at 7:45 pm, plan to park (carefully) along Kalaniana`ole Highway.

If you’d like to help us celebrate, please send an e-mail to swood at hoku dot com. Again, our treat.

Again, don’t forget this Saturday’s two-location donation drive. See #179 above for details.

In the grand design of things you secure a B- with regard to hard work. Where exactly you actually misplaced me personally was first on all the specifics. As people say, details make or break the argument.. And that could not be more true in this article. Having said that, permit me inform you precisely what did do the job. Your authoring is very powerful and that is most likely why I am making the effort in order to comment. I do not really make it a regular habit of doing that. Secondly, whilst I can notice the jumps in reasoning you make, I am not convinced of how you appear to connect your ideas which help to make your final result. For the moment I shall yield to your point but wish in the future you actually link the dots much better.———— http://www.yescustom.com – Custom Your Shirt Watch etc.

In this great design of things you get an A+ with regard to effort. Where exactly you confused everybody was in the details. As as the maxim goes, details make or break the argument.. And it couldn’t be more accurate here. Having said that, let me inform you just what exactly did work. The authoring is certainly very powerful and this is probably the reason why I am making the effort in order to opine. I do not really make it a regular habit of doing that. Secondly, although I can certainly notice the leaps in logic you make, I am definitely not sure of just how you seem to unite the points which make the conclusion. For right now I shall yield to your point but trust in the foreseeable future you actually connect the dots much better.———— http://www.yescustom.com – Custom Your Shirt Watch etc.

UH has offered Forcier an official visit, a 48-hour trip in which the school will pay for travel, lodging and meals.

  319. d1shima July 14, 2011 5:50 am

    Great Morning All!

When it was suggested that the travel subsidies will go a long way toward helping them, Greenwood said, “I guess they see it that way. After we beat them they may think of it (differently). They may wish they didn’t make that deal, you know.”

Nothing like a throwdown from the University Prez! 😆

  320. James July 14, 2011 9:41 am

    This is a no brainer!

UH has nothing to lose by recruiting Tate Forcier and everything to gain, period. So too Tate and his family who support him 100 percent.

    This is a win-win situation.

UH gains a first rate quarterback going into the 2013 season; Coach Mac and his staff gain job security; we UH fans, spoiled by the team’s success the past several years, have high hopes for continued success; and Tate Forcier, rejuvenated from the pits, soars into the high Hawaiian skies like a phoenix, dazzling MWC and the college football scene.

Tate Forcier joining the UH football team is like manna fallling from heaven!

One more comment: Hire Colt Brennan as quarterback assistant coach, to watch over Tate, among other duties, and make sure he does not become a casualty like his former teammate Tyler Graunke. Tyler Graunke had it all. Youth …. and the foolish things young men do when they are young. What a waste! Am glad he has a second chance playing football in Europe. Wish for more update on Graunke.

Sorry to speak off subject for a moment. Barack has only1 term as a national Senator. He has never served in the DOD. He has no experience as a negogiator. He said SS, Fed, and VA disability may not receive their pensions in Aug. .people’s hard earned money for 40-35 years may be denied. He can blame congress all he wants but the buck stops with the oval office. He is the leader. It is a disgrace!

I do love the way you have framed this specific difficulty and it does indeed supply us some fodder for thought. On the other hand, through everything that I have witnessed, I just hope as the actual feed-back pile on that folks keep on point and in no way start on a soap box of some other news du jour. Anyway, thank you for this superb point and though I do not really go along with it in totality, I regard the standpoint.

The crux of your writing while sounding reasonable originally, did not sit properly with me after some time. Somewhere within the sentences you actually were able to make me a believer but just for a very short while. I still have got a problem with your leaps in logic and one might do well to help fill in those gaps. In the event you actually can accomplish that, I could surely end up being impressed.

Well…QB Tom Brady had been identified Number 1 in Outstanding 100 Game enthusiasts of season2011 at authentic Football net site. I real love his tale very much. Late round draft testing, small child at the combine, ultimately bought an opportunity and staying the hope of NFL dominance and a super model spouse. I always show my great pride by having on football jersey with a number 12 and his name. Here is a retail outlet from where i bought my outstanding jerseys. Jeter’s fans could get mlb jerseys, Jordan’s follower can collect discount nba jerseys and Crosby’s enthusiasts can shop for nhl jerseys wholesale there. What’s amazing is they offer youth nfl jerseys and women jerseys. I bought 2 pieces as gifts to my nephew. He likes it very much. I bought my sports team a dozen of cheap nfl jerseys at around 20 dollars, quality is far better than expectation, big surprise. Actually i desire to have my own name and number padded on NFL uniforms, I hope they can custom jerseys soon.

It’s very frightening what’s happening with the London riots but the unappealing truth is we may look back on these times with some nostalgia as things get worse. Right now it seems to be just youngsters out there ‘protesting’ but as the political and police responses become increasingly hysterical and overbearing – special powers aren’t needed, just maintain the already existing laws – you’ll soon have Mr & Mrs Middle Class out there in the streets looting and burning. Who will the authorities have to blame? Nobody but themselves.
