Going into OT?

Whew.
Recruiting is finally over.
Or is it?
The Warriors have saved two scholarships for prospects that might become available.
The Warriors have had success in signing post-signing-day recruits. Two come to mind: Adam Leonard and Colt Brennan. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We know Colt joined as  a walk-on. But it really was a wink-wink agreement in which he would earn a scholarship if he contributed his first semester. We can agree Brennan did.

* * *

Don’t forget to attend the Barefoot League store’s first anniversary block party today at its Kapahulu Avenue location (next to the Safeway). Brennan, Davone Bess, Maa Tanuvasa and Ryan Grice-Mullins will make appearances at the event, which runs from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

hints? he stated that Mac is saving the scholies if players become available or if new recruits are discovered.

  8. Stephen Tsai February 7, 2009 1:35 am

By the way, Al, you had like four entries in the pool but didn’t win. My friends Gwyn and Pauline drew the winning names. I needed witnesses. Since our fine union is threatening us with 10 percent paycuts, nobody is in the office anymore.

  9. al ™ February 7, 2009 1:36 am

i would imagine a list has already been developed.
probably one is in the works already, a selection that is.
we could use another lineman on either side of the ball.
but, i’d take the best athlete at this point who is not a qb.

  10. Stephen Tsai February 7, 2009 1:36 am

By the way, all of the money we supposedly saved by not having a Con-Con, uh, where is it?

  11. Stephen Tsai February 7, 2009 1:37 am

UH is going to be bringing in some pretty good walkons.

    Hey ST,
Just watched the replay of the Warrior Beat Show. Great idea…good job…I really enjoyed it as it keeps me on top of things from London.

By the way, my wife peeked over my shoulder while I was watching and suggested that the show be renamed The Beauty and the Beast show….

  26. Garret February 7, 2009 5:33 am

A former UH coach is joining the Yale coaching staff. If Yale has the normal professor benefits, then his son would be able to go to Yale for free after he coaches at Yale for a year.

Doug Semones, who was the defensive coordinator for the past three years at Sandpoint High School, received an offer from an old friend to coach football at Yale University, marking a return to the collegiate ranks for the successful coach.

A frequent change of address is one of the realities of coaching college football in this day and age. In Semones’ case, the job has taken him from Hawaii to Sandpoint, and now on to Connecticut, where he will coach some of the brightest linebackers in the country.

“We got him from Hawaii and I knew we wouldn’t keep him long,” said Bulldogs head coach Mike Mitchell. “Doug has been a real integral piece to the program. I hate to lose him, but that’s how life goes in this business.”

One of the silver linings is that Jake Semones might be able to once again play football for his father. Jake, who plans to remain in Sandpoint and play baseball before graduating, has already applied to Yale, where he would have a chance to play quarterback for the Eli football team while receiving a world-class education.

  27. Garret February 7, 2009 5:34 am

I like what this evaluator said about David Veikune.

Hawaii DE David Veikune will be a 10-sack defender in a couple of years.

  28. Garret February 7, 2009 5:38 am

Excellent recruits can slip through the cracks, so I’m glad that Mac has some scholarships saved for them, which he had mentioned he was planning to do. With the decommits and the offer to Toma earlier this week, it was clear that UH wasn’t at their scholarship limit.

    22London ~

It was a treat to read your comment from across the other pond. It certainly was a spot on and very keen observation by your roomie. ST The *Lion* Tamer, and the beautiful and lovely Princess did a superb job, didn’t they? Not the fine tuned dynamic team yet, but given time…they will soon be the talk of the town.

This does bring fresh focus to UH sporting news and a great addition to the WB. As soon as they get the wardrobe and makeup contract bids out there, perhaps then, your wife will be able to appreciate the warm and fuzzy bear cub reporter we all know and admire.

  32. Kekoa February 7, 2009 6:13 am

Good morning Garret! Good morning errybody! It’s the dawn of another colorful Hawaiian day in Hawaii nei! Gotta shift gears and get ready for the tile setters to get here early and finish the job. bbl…

  34. roysan16 February 7, 2009 6:28 am

    Source-Rivals .com

In the last 5 years UH has recruited–
    9 DT-1 moved to OL

    2005

Siave Seti DT 5-10 315 – – Long Beach, CA
    Rocky Savaiigaea

    2006

    Clayton Laurel

    2007

Ray Hisatake DT 6-4 320 San Mateo
    (moved to offense)

Vaughn Meatoga DT 6-2 280 Honolulu, HI

    2008

    Haku Correa DT(??)(or DE) 6-1 240 Honolulu, H

Geordon Hanohano DT 6-1 270 Honolulu, HI

    2009

David Hafoka DT 6-2 315 – San Mateo, CA

Zach Masch DT 6-3 285 Yuma, AZ

If there were an extra scholarship available finding a high school DT would be perferable, IMO.

Then just for fun I checked to see how many DT a team like USC has recruited over the last 5 yrs. and I was surprised to see that it was only 7

whereas USC runs a 4-3 and UH runs a 3-4 defense down linemen is a greater necessity for UH than it would be for USC

on the huskies site i’ve read the coach as saying that there’s a shortage of finding a good defensive tackle in the west coast area this year

    maybe this is true, too

taking a look at the upcoming season at the players at the DT

    rocky,vaughn, for sure (SR, JR)

hanohano is untested but highly regarded (FR)

    the JC transfers (JR,JR)

yep UH is thin at DL

    if i missed someone (help)

agree with what coach mack said on yesterdays chat saying if he could follow up with classes like the one this year UH will be really good

I know some don’t put credence in the dot com’s rating system (1 star,2 star,3 star etc. ) But I do.

what the star system means , and UH had 12- 3 stars, is that statistically these players would potentially be the more or less the stars of the teams

skimming the recruit classes on rivals.com from 2002 to the present it seems that the players who had rankings of 3 stars or better were more than likely the bigger contributors to the team than the two star athletes. And were the stars in the WAC. And went on to the next level.

this year with a pool of 12 3 star type athletes this is huge, because statistically they should be the biggest contributors on the team. Playmakers on the team and league and have a greater potential to go to the next level. But the rating service admits that 2 stars can outshine 3,4 and 5 star athletes too. So that is the hope of what happens too with the warriors. But as far as having a foundation of 12- 3 star athletes is great.

there’s a correlation of the higher stars you have the better you will succeed etc.

but our hope is that the ones under the radar come in and do just as well too

  39. roysan16 February 7, 2009 7:15 am

    wow this cracks me up

    you’re a sport’s columnist for a major newspaper

and during one of the busiests sporting weeks of the year

with stories to cover like the bj penn fight

    or the superbowl

or one of the biggest days in national letter of intent day , historically alluded as one of the best

yet monday, tuesday, wednesday and thusday–no column

    this doesn’t make sense

    some of us breath sports

    need sports

    want sports columns

that are fresh with local and national stories that offer new substance that we don’t read elsewhere, not the same type of drivel that i can look up in wikipedia which he sometimes seems to write-like the one about coach dungy

yet for four days , anyway, he was off

    no column

and i don’t know if this is good or bad

or if bad… is better than nothing…ppffftt.

  40. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER February 7, 2009 7:34 am

So- STEPHEN- any word on the Colt Brennan/Clinton Portis shark dive????

  41. Stephen Tsai February 7, 2009 7:40 am

On the DT list, I think Lawrence Wilson and Reagan Mauia are missing.

  42. UKU@LA February 7, 2009 7:44 am

wai-tsai team, great video and concept! more please!
    aloha warriors,

    MANEO !!!

  43. Stephen Tsai February 7, 2009 7:45 am

In 2005, UH had, I believe, eight or nine defensive tackles. Thing was, Glanville was running a 3-4. That meant there were eight or nine guys for one spot.
McMackin runs a 4-3. In his scheme, he doesn’t want the bulky space-eater; he wants DTs who can move. That’s why a guy like Francis Maka can start a couple of games at DT.
And don’t forget UH has four standard defensive packages. Only one of them, the 4-3, which they use probably 40 percent of the time, involves true DTs. They’re often in nickel or Okie.

  44. Stephen Tsai February 7, 2009 7:49 am

Then there was the story of a recruit in 1996. VonAppen was looking for a Gilbert Brown-type, just a massive space-eater. He recruited a 300-pound DT. That actually was big news back then, and the headline mentioned the guy’s weight. His only job was to be a lard-arse. But then the guy gets into really good shape, and loses something like 25 pounds. Fortunately, in 1999, JJ comes in, and they go to a speedier defense.

  45. wafan February 7, 2009 7:52 am

    A relaxing Saturday to all!

  46. CharlieBucket February 7, 2009 7:52 am

Word from da boofeh line is that one potential walk-on recruit is Saddleback College’s 1st Team Southern Conference MLB Akoni Lasconia 6’2 235. Supposedly he’s got some family in da islands.

  47. Stephen Tsai February 7, 2009 7:53 am

BTW, vonAppen actually had a good plan when he took the job. He was going to run the West Coast Offense, and he brought in two innovative coaches — Ken Margerum and Guy Benjamin.
You have to figure it was a big adjustment to go from the triple-option to the West Coast in one season. So, the team struggles. But then Margerum is gone after a year, and Benjamin’s role is diminished, and here comes Wally English running a different offense. Then the next year, defensive coordinator Don Lindsey is moved to offense …
Things would have been a lot better if they stuck to the original plan. Maybe not great. But better.

  48. wafan February 7, 2009 7:53 am

wow, ND is getting blown out by 31 at UCLA.
Stephen, at today’s event, are they signing autographs? or are the appearances just showing up on stage to say hi and whats up and thank you?
curveball, that is the biggest navy ship we have in pearl, and if its indeed stuck after 2 days, they’ll really have to re-think their strategy.
btw, why does the UCLA band wear ugly aloha shirts? do they all wish they were here in Hawaii too? get your own identity!

  71. Da Punchbowl Kid February 7, 2009 9:45 am

  72. labrat February 7, 2009 9:48 am

I have always wanted UH to go after a couple of Doug Sims type tackles. Hopefully Quentin will be one.

  73. roysan16 February 7, 2009 9:50 am

hawaiis base defense this past year was a 4-3?

i know for sure when jj was here it was a 4-3

not a 3-4 this past year?

fonoti and veikune at the ends and 2 def. tackles 40% of the time?

maybe i’m wrong, but sure like someone to clear this up

against teams that pass a lot i’ve read where the book says line up in a 4-3 and against running teams line up in a 3-4

in the hawaii bowl against ND what defense did we line up with against a passing team? i thought it was a 3-4 but correct me if i’m wrong so i learn please.

The Wahine won convincingly last night and no story? 😡

al- did you get my email?

  91. SteveM February 7, 2009 10:59 am

    Good morning everyone!

Karaoke Call looks pretty full now even if Al jojo’s again. Northshorefan plans to join in, along with Long Time UH Fan (health permitting) and their famous lemon pudding mochi. Nalani literally has to cross the island to join us tonight, but she is hopeful.

Going to be a BIG karaoke call night!

  92. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER February 7, 2009 11:01 am

Hi SteveM… boo hoo hoo… I hate missing KK’s… ok. Back to house chores.

  93. roysan16 February 7, 2009 11:07 am

    81-ty al

had to google to see what 4-3 is

    2 ends, 2 tackles, 3 linebackers

i had the numbers turned around, and i dont know why

because in high school and college we ran a 5-3

    and i know what a 5-3 is

gees…freeze brain me, i dont mind laughing

anyway when does the live video stream start tonight from the super kk?

  94. al ™ February 7, 2009 11:14 am

    no sweat roysan16.

but the bottom line is we needed to recruit dtackles every year.

  95. al ™ February 7, 2009 11:14 am

    yes liz.

  96. FloridaTed February 7, 2009 11:15 am

    Tsaikos,

Could we, please, set up a remote video conference call for the KK call, so we can sing along from the Mainland? Lol.

  97. FloridaTed February 7, 2009 11:20 am

We have quite a good number of ‘skill’ players on board now. So, next year we could go a little heavier on Line men.

Over the next three years and beyond, beginning with this year, we will see a heck of a team rising up. Hawaii will be battling Boise every year for supremacy.

  98. Rob25 February 7, 2009 11:20 am

    I gotta do laundry too…

Can’t be all fun and games all the time d1!

Now that recruiting is winding down…any *word* on who the replacement coaches might be? Anyone stick out that may make a good candidate?

  100. Ralph February 7, 2009 11:21 am

    isn’t the 5-2 an Okie formation? a 5-3 leaves a backfield of 3 defenders

  101. d1島 February 7, 2009 11:33 am

Good news for Niners fans in the house.
The Cardinals are dismantling as we speak…
    OC, gone.
    DC, gone.
    Boldin, likely gone.
    Warner, possibly gone.

  102. d1島 February 7, 2009 11:35 am

    Ralph,
IIRC, 5-2 Okie different from Mac’s def. of Okie.

    Okey dokey?

  103. jm2375 February 7, 2009 11:36 am

OK, yard work postponed for a while. It’s wet here in Keolu.

  104. Jason February 7, 2009 11:51 am

For us, Okie is a nickel package. But while most teams run a 4-2-5 nickel, replacing a LB with a DB, Okie is a 3-3-5.

  105. letsgowarriors February 7, 2009 12:03 pm

did trevor iosefa sign with anyone?

i think UH could bring in some good walkons from hawaii, at least they can pay in-state tuition.

    Trevor Iosefa – DT
    Miah Faatoafe – DT

Final Notes for the BIG Karaoke Call tonight.…
We can still squeeze in a few more…

    1. Per KK’s policy, we may enter the room (Green Room) as early as 7:15 PM. We must likewise exit around 12:15 AM.

    2. Please reserve the front section of seating and tables nearest the door for Esme’s MomsLikeMe group.

    3. d1shima will do the initial input of karaoke songs to minimize duplicates and even distribution. Paper & pen for requests will be provided.

    4. Suggested attire for Tsai-kos: “Tsai-ko black” and/or Tsai-ko name tags

    5. Please pay Stretch at the door. $15 per person.

  120. Jason February 7, 2009 1:55 pm

SteveM: When I saw that chawan_cut was going to the KK after the game, I thought of asking him if I could tag along, maybe hang out for an hour then head home early. But now I caught a cold, and I have some things to do once I get home after the game. Hope you all have a good time!

  121. Stretch February 7, 2009 2:11 pm

Jason – you have to show up tonight. Who going serenade all the ladies??

  122. Jason February 7, 2009 2:23 pm

Stretch: I give you permission to sing Three Times a Lady, Endless Love, and any other Lionel Richie/The Commodores song you want. But no serenading the young ladies, you’re an old man who will creep them out.

  123. Garret February 7, 2009 2:44 pm

Sporting News picked 10 teams that should recruit better, with several teams relevant here. Not taking into account BCS vs. the WAC or MWC and the difference in budgets/facilities makes this analysis kind of flawed.

Here’s a look at 10 of the bigger head-scratchers, the leaders in the “Why don’t these programs draw more blue-chippers?” debate.

San Diego State. The anchor college in a high school football haven, this place might be the most disappointing school in the country. Reggie Bush and Alex Smith played ball at Helix, three miles from SDSU’s campus. Come on, Aztecs. A heavy dose of the kids USC doesn’t want would place them a notch below Utah and TCU and send them bowling each year.

SMU. See San Diego State, and UCF for that matter. The Mustangs sit amid hundreds of well-funded, well-coached high school programs. Sure, some of those players have peaked, but others would be ready to stay home and lift the Mustangs. And none of them was alive when the school got the death penalty. Blaming the 1980s for SMU’s failures doesn’t work.

Hawaii. So maybe grandmas and girlfriends can’t make every home game. But UH is no laughingstock in the WAC, even with June Jones and Colt Brennan on the Mainland full-time. Throw in the sun, the surf and the scenery, and the Warriors should score more than they do on the recruiting trail.

Boise State. I’d sign for the blue turf alone. The Broncos win championships, and with a little luck, squeeze into BCS bowls (where we hear they fare pretty well). They send guys to the pros, too — Ryan Clady started 16 games this season as a rookie in Denver. It’s time for Boise to start recruiting big talent in addition to developing it.

Careful Jason…you are going to get Stretch in hot water with all the ‘young’ women. The Tsaikettes are all mature women who are ageless legends. You must not discriminate or segregate and risk their certain wrath.

and you too, Florida Ted! this should be one hellva gathering for Tsaikos near and far.

    and 99Club too!

Longdistance808, from Colorado, are you still with us?

Hello Brew – Mrs A-House is happy you will be in LV for the game – she needs to study your face – actually, a picture will be very nice (of course only for our archives).

john: I don’t really care much for the NBA, so I don’t keep track of stuff except the major players and the Pacers. I’m sure someone more qualified can answer your question, especially since I’m sure there are Laker fans here. I can say I’ve always had some partiality to Morrison just because he’s one of those athletes who plays sports despite battling diabetes.

IBM just posted strong financial results but is still laying off workers…and they actually sent out a memo to the laid off workers saying that they could take a job in India, China, Brazil, Russia, and some third world countries at the local pay rates (much less than what they made in the US). Some IBM workers have these options: move to another country for a much lower-paying job (and they will lose their severance package from IBM), move within the US at their own expense if IBM has a need elsewhere for their skills, or be fired and lose their severance package!

The fun in college football has improved drastically for the University of Hawaii Warriors as evident by the large amount of signed to play! Also, I would love to see the Warriors secure more high school athletes than the Junior College athletes in the other sports as well because Hawaii has so much talent heading elsewhere! I’m glad that Coach Mac opened the road to “Laie – Kahuku High School” because we could never obtained any blue chippers from that side of Oahu for many years! I’m glad that Athletic Director, Jim Donovan, has expanded the recruiting budget because we came very close in landing Iuta Tepa and Stanjirivus McKay to UH along with the other local and non-local talent as well! Therefore, Coach Mac has not relented their football recruiting efforts as their moving into overtime!

Watch out Waikiki, my younger sis and her trailor park boyfriend are coming!
What? trailor park bf is a mean thing to say?
Sounds mean, but true, born in a tp, lived most of his life in a tp, when he moved into a house with my sis, he was amazed that the home did not rock when the wind blew.
He walked around the house 4 times looking for the wheels.

He’s alright though, treats sis well and the dog loves him.

The first two Krazy Karaoke nights we booked 4 hours and extended to 5 hours. This time Stretch booked 5 hours…and when I left, some people were taking up a collection to go 6…

…maybe it’s been too long since our last BIG karaoke call in August. 😐

Special thanks to Stretch who financed the (sizable) deposits and made final payment.

Thanks to d1shima who handled the song request inputs.

A big mahalo to Esme for keeping her moms in line… and “no, homey belongs to us so he better not be missing on Monday.”

Big thanks to LK and Addahknowsports for the Tsai-ko name tags and the clever mini Tsai-ko ID tag to place on bottles (one possible use anyway). The names were taken from the RSVP list…as usual.

Yes, that great “Lady Love” singer was Iwonderwhytheyhateme…another Genji secret making his Big KK debut. He also sings Japanese and will probably be on las vegas’s enka team later this month… 🙂 Another smashing debut performance came from Annoddahdave — wow!

Great night catching up with everyone!
We gotta do this again soon!
Nah, we are doing this again soon…couple weeks. 🙂

drove around lower campus around 4pm. saw the Oklahoma Sooners girls softball team warming up, along with da UH – wadda I call em, Warriors? 😀 many of our girls looked fit!

but the thing that impressed me most about lower campus was looking at the Cooke Ching Complex. the field looks spiffy, especially with alot of UH kids using it. they were mostly on the track, but some were on the field too. and i couldn’t see who was on the makai side, standing on the 30, but he was flinging the ball, must be 40 yards in the air, and 2 guyz wuz alternating, running to catch the things. one receiver wasn’t too good, one was looking real good. the qb wasn’t GA, i dunno who he wuz, but he was flinging.

  217. d1島 February 8, 2009 6:50 am

    Great Morning All!

Big MAHALO to Stretch and SteveM for making the arrangements for another awesome Karaoke Kall!

Very nice to see Esme and her Moms. (appearing at a mall near you)

Big shout out to Diane for enduring the pain (in her ears, too!) to come out last night. It was great to see her with Kekoa.

Don’t want to break the “what happens at KKall, stays at KKall” rule but….
low, low, low, low, low, low 😆

Inputting the songs was no problem but once things got rolling it was hard to let folks know that with a song queue that was 30+ deep their tune would be coming up sometime on Tuesday morning! 😯

Sorry we had to miss out on IWWTHM and AnnodahDave’s crooning but I gotta….

    HiHo…..

  218. bighilofan2inHnl February 8, 2009 6:59 am

i wuz talking to a very wize Tsako last nite.
    Ralph.

and we wuz talking about how we need brilliant coaching to develop our Warriors to achieve their very best potentials.

and the name Joe Onosai, AD, football coach and Mr. Everything at Word of Life HS. Mr. Charasmatic. Mr. Motivation. Mr. Wonderful.
He is the bomb for the boys and girls at da Word. They listen to him. They respect him. He motivates them. He makes them overachieve.
and his #2 girl plays UH now.

I hope Coach Mack and the coaches don’t, how they say, think about not making waves. To be a big time program, everybody gotta do their part. In all the parts. This includes the coaches. Don’t care if they watch the game from the sidelines, or up in the booth. To each coach, you gotta project power. Like Mr. Onosai.

This year starts now, and its Coach job to look everybody in the eye and believe he can do “it” and make his team believe he can do it. Like Mr. Onosai. I’ll say this for you, Coach McMackin. You’re on the right path.
Good luck, and keep going! We’re pulling for you.

    Go Warriors!

  219. wafan February 8, 2009 7:10 am

    Time for dog training, TTYTL.

  221. bighilofan2inHnl February 8, 2009 7:22 am

Coach, you did great with Tony Tuioti. he projects power. we can give this year’s recruiting class any kind grade, the main thing is that the people have hope, we think Tony did a good job, we no care if Wade or Stan or Manti or any of the other guyz going away. no can keep em all, gotta respect their desire, and let em go. we happy with the ones we got, and kept, and the attitude is that fewer and fewer of the top gonna want to get off the rock down the road.

gotta do the same with the other coaches – Cal, Ron, Brian, Rich, George. None of em can look like deer in the headlights this year. coaches gotta make the game time adjustments. real time. right now. We gotta feel that the people you have in charge can make those kind of adjustments. coaches gotta be watching video, just like the best players. they gotta know that if the opponent is doing this, then we gotta be doing that. they gotta know that and react like that. if they cannot react real time, like change the player lineup or change the this or the that, then its time to say “move aside shallow water, let the big sea roll in.” you gotta motivate them all coach. make like Jimmy D did to Ebolla. da bugga actually stood up on the sidelines for most of the game and was coaching.

  222. bighilofan2inHnl February 8, 2009 7:25 am

  238. Kekoa February 8, 2009 9:10 am

Good Morning All…Let’s review, shall we?

ST ~ Remains the undisputed owner of “The Lion Sleeps Tonite!” Be honest folks. Wasn’t that the most polished version of ‘Lion’ that we have heard yet? Even the screechy parts were as smooth as a new born baby’s okole!

I wonder if he could team with Nalani on “Poetry Man?” on the 21st?

StevenM & Stretch ~ You two have developed a stable of stars that would rival Barry Gordy at Motown. Thanks for the set up and all that you do to promote another great gathering of the ohana.

Esme! ~ All I can say is…“Mama said there’d by days like this, there’d be days like this my mama said!”

UHFan808 is still the proud owner of “Funky Cold Medina!”
Thank you for treating us to another sassy version of the classic hit.

Pride reached into his Golden Oldies bag and pulled out his “One in a Million” Lady Love song – which he didn’t waste any time testing the bass levels with. One day, I’d like him to showcase that beautiful falsetto voice he has. It leaves you with no doubt that he is indeed the grandson of ‘our’ Aunty Genoa.

Be back in a few minutes, gotta take care of my roomie…

  239. Da Punchbowl Kid February 8, 2009 9:13 am

Any way, isn’t it kind of cool to notice that “nowhere” can also read as “now here”? That’s really deep. I’m gonna go ponder that concept for a few hours.

It was fun seeing everyone at the KK last night.

MsLiz & Kymri, have fun at the game. I’m still up in the air about going there to look for a ticket before game time. Is the game going to be broadcast, really?

  245. NorthShoreFan February 8, 2009 10:09 am

    Guuud Morning Tsai-kos…
Big Mahalo Shout out to SteveM-Stretch-D1 for the coordination of the KK lst night. Our first KK and it was great!
Met some cool people last night and hope to see you all guys at the next one.
Diane, Mahalo for gracing the group with your presence. It was great to meet you guys.

Garret, mahalos for the post on IBM yesterday. IIRC, IBM was the guys who started getting rid of senior employees to trim cost. Most of the senior talent went to other rival companies and IBM started to slide.
Now they come up with some real “outside the box” ideas huh?
Anyhoo, this is the face of the global economy. Hopefullyone day , we would be able to move all over the world and not diminish the quality of life. Like just moving to another city for a new job…yeah right!

Anyhoo, have a good one everyone…O&O

  246. Kazz February 8, 2009 10:19 am

So, I heard there is some kind of game today?

Flag football near the K-Mart in Salt Lake I think… 😆

  247. Mei Ling February 8, 2009 10:29 am

Oops! Sorry, it wasn’t Kymri but Mrs. BHF2 who’s going to the game w/ LizK. Have fun! Saw the Big Hilo Man last night briefly. I need to send him a pic of Kapua I have from the last lu’au at NAU.

Looks like I’m gonna watch the game at home. Enjoy the wonderful weather in Hawai’i nei!

  248. Stretch February 8, 2009 11:07 am

    Good Morning Tsaikos!!

Thanks for everyone who came out last night, including Esme’s mama’s. They were officially initiated into the Tsaiko’s with their shot of CR.

It’s going to be a lazy day for me. See you guys later.

  249. Rob25 February 8, 2009 11:17 am

    wafan…

Frank is with the 1st of the 299th. They do the longer missions up North. They all said the same thing as the one soldier who said that they’d rather be out on a mission because it is so boring when they are at Buehring…and the food sucks there and is better up North.

OK, now that I have told you, I have to k*** you because you know too much. Sounds sort of Daniel Craig huh? Just kidding…don’t want to have an incident like Kekoa.

    Frank says hello to all!

  250. Rob25 February 8, 2009 11:21 am

  253. Long Time UH Fan February 8, 2009 11:45 am

OK, I survived the Big Karaoke Kall…

Many thanks to Stretch, SteveM for coordinating the big shindig, to d1Shima for inputting all the songs, to Koakane and SteveM for carrying this old man’s cooler to and from the car, to all the people who attended the KK– especially the newcomers, to Esme’s youthful bunch, and to my cuzn, Pride. and Midnight for keeping me company with great stories and songs. Mahalo. It was a great experience. And yes the Lion was in great Low form last night. 😉

  254. Rob25 February 8, 2009 11:48 am

OK who brought the rice krispy treats…those were the bomb! 😯

  255. Mei Ling February 8, 2009 11:52 am

Ahhh, the kope has kicked in & football is on the tv… When I lived on the mainland, I would watch the Pro Bowl to see shots of Hawai’i nei. What beautiful weather today to show the folks on the mainland.

Mahalo nui loa to Stretch & SteveM for organizing the KK last night. That shot of CR was smooth… and so was Pride. …

  256. jm2375 February 8, 2009 11:57 am

I see we have some survivors from last night’s KK!! ST replied to my email at 2:45am, so he’s still probably examining the inside of his eyelids… 😀

ST – if you have a 10% pay cut, does that mean you do 10% less work?

Guys, the question I asked yesterday about coverage of Friday’s Wahine bb game was not rhetorical. Any comments?

    Hi jm2375!

I brought the original Portuguse Malasadas fresh from my backyard brick oven!

I’m watching the Pro Bowl from home today in silent protest of their leaving the islands next year. Actually Pops bought them from the 1981 game and just kept reordering every year. I hope some poor fan from Podunk Minnetonka’s frozen tundra is enjoying it.

Rob, you talking about those rice krispie/pretzel treats with the white chocolate? If so … that was one of my mamas, Colomaohana. She brings that to every gathering. I always have to eat at least three. 😆

Kekoa sir, the better protest is to not watch it at all.

But then again I am at work… 🙁

Hey Gang! One of Esme’s moms here. Husb and I thoroughly enjoyed the evening with you all even though I had a sore throat. The shot of CR helped it a bit, LOL! You are a great bunch to be with!
