Game day: Oregon State

Another Saturday, another Pac-12 opponent for Hawaii.

Oregon State offers a top quarterback (Sean Mannion), tandem backs (Terron Ward, Storm Woods), and a receiver (Victor Bolden) who is potentially as good as Brandin Cooks (now with the New Orleans Saints).

Hawaii has the equalizer (running back Joey Iosefa) and an improved quarterback (Ikaika Woolsey, who had no turnovers last week).

Chat away.

Avis has selected Jordan Wynn Fan as the winner of the T-shirt. Email me at sighdude@gmail.com with delivery info.

I have special powers that allow me to see what I wrote, but I still can’t see the post as a “regular” reader.

  5. Stephen Tsai September 6, 2014 8:22 am

This is like the “Sixth Sense.”
Am I the only one who can see dead posts?

  6. Shoko September 6, 2014 8:34 am

Hope all the blog issues have been worked out. Would be chaos if it went down during the regular game chatter for tonight’s game.

Noticed the point spread went down to -9.5!

  7. BigWave96744 September 6, 2014 8:35 am

JJ not doing too good this season.
SMU has still to score a point this season

Rainingnthis morning in Kaneohe…I wonder if we can expect rain for today’s game. If so, it will make the good more interesting. Our offense has to show up to win…

    GOOD MORNING, HAWAII!

ST: weird – I see postings today at 8:11, 8:15 etc. Yet my “Game Day – Oregon State” shows up on my computer at 8:36-8:37!

  10. A-HousE September 6, 2014 8:38 am

    ST:

things are moving slow – your screen shows 2 posts, yet when I go in there are 5

with this “new” system – I must log out, come back in to find your new post

before, there was a miniature column along the right hash where it showed your posts for the day making it easier to get to your “new” post

this new system – very much like our EPIC program for the company – management bought this because they were impressed with the initial and subsequent presentations – convinced that it would MAKE IT EASIER FOR MANANGEMENT!!!!!!!

no consultation with the staff/other users which we discover that it’s not very user friendly – difficult to be productive – but, we are stuck – post, 1 year and the users are still having difficulty inputting information, finding information, losing information ( computer seems to do what it wants by moving input from one location to another ) – and wasting much more paper than the previous – ie, I want 1 or 2 pages, but EPIC prints our 5 – 9 pages.

told management that all they could see was that it would make it easier for them only; no consideration for the primary, daily users!

  11. Stephen Tsai September 6, 2014 8:39 am

OK, it was a little weird that I couldn’t post a comment, either. But all appears to be good.

based on Midori’s suggestion – I went to the Chinese Cultural Plaza and located a video store that carries Korean historical drama dvds

searching through the boxes, I found The Great Queen Seonduk – made in Singapore with no disc problems – excellent quality and sub-titles – we are down to the last 2 of 80 episodes – each episode is about 45 minutes

will loan to you and Lois – let me know

Poor June. His D is decent but his line can’t block, his QBs can’t throw and his WRs can’t catch.

I still have a awkwardly wordful “A Promise Kept” t-shirt [a Grease sneaks away, embarrassed].

Looks like McNeese St.-Nebraska will go into OT. Sea of Nebraska red in the stands.

  33. Chicken Grease September 6, 2014 9:21 am

  39. Chicken Grease September 6, 2014 9:52 am

Hawaii’s sole football win from last yearn Army, just beat Buffaloi in a close one, 47-39. Tha’s simply bad a-$ army’s football helmet; all black.

Aired on Oceanic digital 247, where HI-Ore’ St. game will be shown on TV, CBS Sports network.

Wow. Network’s airing Army’s alma mater. Airing the WHOLE alma mater from the band. Can they do that for the Hawaii game later on?

  40. Old School Dave September 6, 2014 10:13 am

UW blew ahead to a 21-0 lead in the 1st quarter against Eastern Washington. EWU has come back to close it to 24-21 in the 2nd. Husky Stadium is very quiet.

  41. letsgowarriors September 6, 2014 10:29 am

luckily for us, Bolden is good but nowhere near as good as Cooks.

  42. gobows September 6, 2014 10:35 am

heres one for the what the hell column…

hawaii ran 97 plays against washington.

last night, pac5 ran 62 plays (53 passes) in the 1st half against st louis, but was shut out. half time score 46-0. pac5 managed only 21 plays in the 2nd half, but scored 2 td’s.
st louis ran 40 plays in the entire game.

high schools play 12 minute qtrs.

  47. Haleakala September 6, 2014 10:47 am

    Eastern Washington 31 – Washington 37 2nd quarter!

  48. RainbowCliff September 6, 2014 10:52 am

    Good Morning Tsaiko Nation !

Been busy here in sunny Los Angeles as College football is in the air and excitement all over with USC and UCLA off to a good start with both teams loaded with athletes on both side of the ball. Should be a great showdown when they play one another !

Rainbow Warriors played tough last week competing against Washington. Proud how they played but moral victories don’t count in the win column. Oregon State provides a tougher challenge as Sean Mannion brings experience and can throw the long ball with pin point accuracy. Hawaii defense has to bring it and be in his face or it will be a tough night handling Oregon State balance attack as their running game is solid with both backs durable who can break tackles and cause havoc in the secondary. Will be an exciting game as Bows can keep it close or the Beavers can dominate all 4 quarters as they are a huge notch above Washington.

Will be watching CBS sport channel from my pool side hoping for a Warrior victory. Close games GOT to win them as 1 or 3 point loss at HOME just makes the lost column difficult to digest especially here with so many die hard fans.

Hope all you folks have a “tail gate” game day all over Tsaiko Nation !

Let’s Go Bows / Beat those Beavers !

  49. 3-Prong September 6, 2014 10:53 am

Uh, oh. I’ll try to find missing posts.
Thanks everyone for being relentlessly positive.

  52. hatakeman September 6, 2014 11:04 am

Eastern Washington QB, Vernon Adams Jr., has 252 yds. passing in 1st half on 16/23 (4 TDs) passing against Huskies. Makes me wonder how our QB will do against the Beavers. Cyler Miles is 6/16 for 104 yds passing so it doesn’t seem he would have been any better than Lindquist. Huskies lead 37-31 in 1st half on strong rushing game – 232 yds. Warriors shut them down. All very interesting to me.

  53. mo808 September 6, 2014 11:07 am

A Texas columnist commented after SMU’s game against Baylor which they lost 45-O.
    http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/college-sports/headlines/20140903-sherrington-smu-football-fans-weren-t-happy-about-season-opening-rout-and-i-don-t-blame-them.ece

“Question: Is this June Jones’ last year on the hilltop?
Sherrington: SMU fans were not happy with that performance against Baylor, and I don’t blame them. The difference in personnel was amazing. SMU looked small and slow in comparison across the board. The QBs didn’t have a chance. But June’s signed up through 2017 at $2M a year. Would SMU buy him out? Not sure. Might just simply wait for Larry’s team to fire up. As one SMU alum told me the other day, “We’re a basketball school.”

I wonder how the SMU fans will react now after their team got clobbered by North Texas State.

  58. wafan September 6, 2014 11:52 am

  60. Mytake September 6, 2014 12:32 pm

Eastern Washington put up 45 pts on Washington so far. Does that mean UH offense is offensive?!

  61. champ September 6, 2014 12:34 pm

I heard David Graves may have another year of eligibility left. He could be great! He can run and pass ACCURATELY!

  62. islandman September 6, 2014 12:35 pm

E Washington has no defense ? Washington ahead 59-45 , 4 minutes remaining

  63. Haleakala September 6, 2014 12:53 pm

Maybe Washington’s defense feeling beat up from last week’s encounter with Joey & co.

  67. hatakeman September 6, 2014 1:56 pm

It’s not just the 52 pts Eastern Washington put up on the Huskies, it’s the how. EWU QB Vernon Adams Jr, passed for 476 yds on 31/46 comp/att for 7 passing TDs.

  68. BigFan September 6, 2014 2:12 pm

A-House, tommmui – The Great Queen Seonduk is available for streaming on Netflix. Watched it a while back but believe it’s still available. What an emotional movie.

n …. BYU is kinda dehorning them long horns of texas…

  78. Go Warriors! September 6, 2014 4:21 pm

I went to Oregon State…so gooooo Warriors!!!

Even though Corvallis is nice, I wouldn’t trade Hawaii for Corvallis any day. Couldn’t wait to get back to Hawaii when school was out. The food was ok, but cannot beat Hawaii food.

Play for Pac-12, get a nice experience. Maybe.

Play for Hawaii, become a local hero. Like Beau Yap.

Even mainland kids can set roots here and Hawaii folks will remember their name long after they don’t wear the green uniform. Doors open for them too.

By the way, it rains a lot in Oregon from at least Oct to Feb. Not seeing a blue sky for months on end was depressing. No exaggeration. No blue skies for months on end. Hawaii mo betta. Trust me.

  79. st. anthony trojan September 6, 2014 4:36 pm

yea… but oregon is good for sum things also…

like xmas trees he he he

  80. BleedGreen808 September 6, 2014 4:36 pm

  88. 3-Prong September 6, 2014 5:09 pm

    Thats ok. Keep hitting Mannion!

  89. Buffoman September 6, 2014 5:11 pm

If it’s close we will not get the call. Forget about it. Have to out play the opponent. That’s tough.

  90. gobows September 6, 2014 5:12 pm

  96. UHfan808 September 6, 2014 5:25 pm

    No penalty?!

  97. gobows September 6, 2014 5:30 pm

Jgw might have blew his left knee

  98. gobows September 6, 2014 5:32 pm

Dee maggit got 3rd degree burns but he still in there. hopefully Nelson, Lewis, or Jackson gets in sooner than later.

  99. Shoko September 6, 2014 5:32 pm

    Looks like it.

  100. Whats Up September 6, 2014 5:33 pm

Looks like last years pre Sean Schreoder offense is back and it last years defense has returned. Both O line and D line are getting whipped. Come on Warriors fix it!

  101. RainbowCliff September 6, 2014 5:37 pm

Hawaii is just being out played on both ends of the football field. Oregon State is a complete team with an experience quarterback and solid running game. UH defense needs to stop making stupid penalties and the OFFENSE needs to show some form of threat as three and out won’t get it done. Chow needs to stop looking like “grumpy” of the seven dwarfs and do some COACHING with some game adjustments. This is a contest in which UH looks so over match against a PAC 12 team that in all reality will finished in the middle of their division. NO excitement from this team as it starts with your LEADER as once again a BIG game with no show from the home team. Oregon State just SPANKING UH all over the field. 21-0 and it’s not half time. WOW just plain embarrassing !

  102. Shoko September 6, 2014 5:39 pm

Got a wretched feeling this is going to get ugly. Beavers are scoring too fast and it seems effortlessly.

  103. RB September 6, 2014 5:39 pm

UH got a new D Cord but same results as last year…..unreal!!!!!!

  104. Buffoman September 6, 2014 5:40 pm

Flat. We look lost on defense. Offense still outside the stadium. Not good.

  105. Inyoface September 6, 2014 5:43 pm

    Put in Graham.

  106. RB September 6, 2014 5:44 pm

    Agree change the QB

  107. RainbowCliff September 6, 2014 5:44 pm

    Interception !

    Let’s SCORE !

  108. Shoko September 6, 2014 5:47 pm

There we go. Powered by Iosefa.

  109. gobows September 6, 2014 5:48 pm

Sending Joey in motion out of the back field is not working

  110. RainbowCliff September 6, 2014 5:49 pm

    Finally TOUCHDOWN !

Defense has to STEP up as you can bet Oregon State will make up for that costly turnover with a long drive. 21-7 is better then 28-7. Let’s GO BOWS !

  111. UHfan808 September 6, 2014 5:54 pm

    Yay for the TD, Warriors!!!

    Wahoooo!!!

  112. UHfan808 September 6, 2014 5:57 pm

    We almost caught that one!

    Hehehe

    Rouging the passer?!

Kick the *refs* out of the game!

    👿

  113. Inyoface September 6, 2014 5:58 pm

    Roughing the passer?

  114. gobows September 6, 2014 6:02 pm

Trayvon leaves with a sore shoulder after delivering a big hit. Jackson is up

  115. RainbowCliff September 6, 2014 6:02 pm

Weak roughing the passer call. NEW rules are in place protecting quaterback. Players need to know that any low hits will be costly. Adrenalin is hard to stop in which playing catch up brings all this to fold. No pass rush on Mannion as once again Beavers looking to pound the ball for SIX.

  116. 3-Prong September 6, 2014 6:03 pm

I call BS on these refs. NC must be fuming.

  117. Whats Up September 6, 2014 6:04 pm

    Are these PAC=12 refs?

  118. gobows September 6, 2014 6:05 pm

Trayvon looks to be cleared by the med staff

Three is better then seven. 24 to 7

Offense needs to show some form of scoring. Woosley is surely out of his league in this game. Three and out coming up again !

  120. UHfan808 September 6, 2014 6:09 pm

I’m wondering if this is supposed to be football

Refs using the rules to OSU’s advantage 🙁

  121. Shoko September 6, 2014 6:10 pm

This is turning out like last years Fresno State game with Woolsey starting then being replace by Schroeder.

  122. Whats Up September 6, 2014 6:12 pm

    Yep PAC-12 refs for sure.

  123. Inyoface September 6, 2014 6:13 pm

    All calls going oregons way

  124. RB September 6, 2014 6:17 pm

I thought UH got rid of Thom Kaumeyer ? The D looks horrible!!!!!

  125. RainbowCliff September 6, 2014 6:18 pm

Rules are one thing making adjustments are another. UH coaches are just getting out coached and looking the blame game on the referees. Composure is needed as exploding on the side lines against the officials will only leave your players behaving in the same manner. Oregon State plain and simple is athletic and talented on both sides of the ball as breaking tackles and just man handling UH in the trenches is truly what is happening on the field. Can any UH defender stop Oregon State BIG tight end as the answer has been NO !

Oregon State running game DESTROYING UH !

31 to 7 as half time can’t come too soon !

  126. Inyoface September 6, 2014 6:18 pm

    Almost pick 6

  127. Mauibuilt September 6, 2014 6:18 pm

Did I miss something? I saw Hawaii sack the qb and what may have been a fumble to it being first and 10 after that play? What happen?? Or am I tripping out?

  128. UHfan808 September 6, 2014 6:20 pm

    Um RC?!

Any updates on jerrol garcia williams x rays?

  132. RainbowCliff September 6, 2014 6:24 pm

Man you cannot be serious with Woosley. This kid is not the answer to the quarterback for UH. How many 3 and out as I have lost count !

Keeping this kid at a KEY position won’t lead to many wins this season. Can’t WIN if you can’t score !

  133. UHfan808 September 6, 2014 6:24 pm

    Scream positive thot, RC 😀

    Lol 😀

  135. Shoko September 6, 2014 6:25 pm

Bets on who starts the second half behind center?

  136. UHfan808 September 6, 2014 6:25 pm

    That’s *thots*

  137. Inyoface September 6, 2014 6:27 pm

    Higgins

  138. Inyoface September 6, 2014 6:27 pm

    Anybody

  139. Shoko September 6, 2014 6:30 pm

Think that’s the question: Does Chow replace Woolsey like he has done when his quarterbacks struggle?

  140. Chicken Grease September 6, 2014 6:30 pm

Anybody know if Ikaika Woolsey wears eyeglasses? He needs to put ’em on.

If Hawaii’s going to play like this the rest of the season, better to just send one player out and bend over.

    Mein Gott

  141. Warrior September 6, 2014 6:39 pm

I’m at the game. The refs are UNBELIEVABLE!!!
    Rainbow cliff are u serious?

  142. RB September 6, 2014 6:45 pm

The Ref’s , The Defense and UH QB is all horrible… Hopefully the 2nd half is a better half for all 3….

  143. RainbowCliff September 6, 2014 6:47 pm

UHfan808: Man I love you but this game just shows how UH is far away from competing against superior teams. Watching Chow do NOTHING on the side lines as a head coach is surely sad to watch year after year. He ALONE is destroying Hawaii football which we BOTH know has so much tradition and pride. All you see is Chow leaving the field and exploding at any official he sees in his pathway, that is just JV coaching as this is Division I and all he is doing is building a reputation as a whiner among all officials including WAC. This summer I met a WAC official at the Hawaiian Festival and the first thing he said to me when we talked Hawaii football was Chow constant whining at officials. The game has to be coached on the field and he Chow has NO clue being a head coach as you can see why he has been an assistant his entire football career. No charisma, a nasty attitude, poor preparation and putting his players to be successful is just plain ass sickening. One million dollars for this guy is pathetic and he has TWO more years left leading this once proud program to the abyss of college football. Enough is enough get rid of this guy as the way things stand with crazy Ben Jay stating that UH football being dismissed as BOTH are just PATHETIC leaders to ever be hired at UH !

Man this is sickening to watch !

  144. Chicken Grease September 6, 2014 6:48 pm

The refs aren’t responsible for only just over 100 yards in a first half. Is that the worst of the day? Somebody check.

  145. Pcwarrior September 6, 2014 6:49 pm

    Let’s go Rainbows!!

  146. gobows September 6, 2014 6:52 pm

Tyler falls and dribbles the kick off. They sucking it up all over

  147. tom-warriornation September 6, 2014 6:52 pm

    Change the QB now!

  148. gobows September 6, 2014 6:54 pm

not in WAC, hawaii is in the “big mountain west” conferences

  149. slenzi September 6, 2014 6:55 pm

Not excited about prospect of Schroeder. Lets get to Higgins early in the season and see what he can do. Chow Dog house or not, they need Higgins on the field.

  150. RainbowCliff September 6, 2014 6:55 pm

Warrior, are you serious saying that the referees are the reason Hawaii is losing. 52 yards total offense and no show of an offensive game. When UH got it’s only touchdown was because the referee called a penalty against Oregon State allowing Iosefa finally to score. All the refs do is control the game as coaching and players perform on the field with one team TALENTED, prepared and better then the other!

That is what’s happening on the field !

  151. Darren September 6, 2014 6:56 pm

    Where’d the students go?

  152. Hawaiifan2 September 6, 2014 6:58 pm

This is bad, Garcia williams is like the iosefa of the defense

  153. Lawaia September 6, 2014 6:59 pm

The above statements being submitted by Rainbow Cliff, seems to be written by someone else. Mr. Sanchez (Rainbow Cliff) does not write in that style. Please use your own handle. Mr. Sanchez if it is your statements I apologize.

  154. Chicken Grease September 6, 2014 7:00 pm

At this point, this is practice in paradise for Oregon St.

    Where’s the Warrior fire?

Get rid of the rainbow! ‘Tis bad luck!

  155. RainbowCliff September 6, 2014 7:04 pm

Oregon State receivers are just killing UH defenders. Mannion has all day to pass. Watching this game with so many empty orange seats in once LOUD Aloha Stadium is so sad to see. That alone tells exactly their feelings of Hawaii football.

38 to 7 as this game is OVER !

Only thing remains is Chow post game interview with the same old excuse on losing another football game. Same old tired reasons !

  156. Shoko September 6, 2014 7:04 pm

    Nice kick return by Magget.

  157. gobows September 6, 2014 7:06 pm

Another bogus call…false start on the center

  158. RainbowCliff September 6, 2014 7:06 pm

Chicken Grease: Rainbow name is not the problem. Chow is. Three and out once again !

  159. Inyoface September 6, 2014 7:07 pm

Seems like Woosley can’t hit the side of a barn tonight.

  160. Kevin September 6, 2014 7:08 pm

Where’d the students go is an irrelevant quandary compared to the FACT that Aloha Stadium fits 50,000.

A more intelligent inquiry that is relevant to UH administration and the coaching staff of this football program is:

Where are the other 25,000 people and why are they fed up with UH’s nonsense?

    #truth #alwaysaskquestions

  161. Tanman September 6, 2014 7:10 pm

    Speechless about the game…

  162. RainbowCliff September 6, 2014 7:15 pm

Lawaia it is me and I am just TIRED of seeing UH football at it’s worst that it has ever been. Being a former player I take PRIDE of how UH athletics has been over the years but watching this program being led by a so call “offensive guru” over the past three years of LOSING football just sickens my stomach. All you hear is that UH football will no longer exist and watching the poor support just tells one thing that good folks in Hawaii are fed up too. Sorry to be so direct but my PRIDE for this program is hurting and TIRED of seeing years of LOSING !

  163. gobows September 6, 2014 7:18 pm

    5:22 3rd qtr…people are leaving

  164. Shoko September 6, 2014 7:18 pm

    Sad…lol

  165. obachan September 6, 2014 7:19 pm

Chow has every right to protest calls from these bush league refs – after all he is the coach. Compare that to Pat Haden’s freakin stupid actions today running onto the football field in today’s game against Stanford to protest the ref’s call. Never saw an AD do that in all my life. Now that’s disgusting.

  166. 808bowler September 6, 2014 7:19 pm

Woosley is not the answer. Only offense is iosefa. Need better qb play. Try graham or something.

  167. Chicken Grease September 6, 2014 7:20 pm

Think coaches should be free to change QBs — especially in the case of Hawaii/Chow/Woolsey — the same way baseball managers change pitchers.

Football coaches should also figure, “OK. What if [the guy who won the QB position] got seriously hurt. Who would I put in?”

You know, that’s what you call a “plan.”

Higgins warming up on the sidelines. This poor Higgins. Losing out to Johnny “Ikaika” Overthrow.

  168. Inyoface September 6, 2014 7:22 pm

Oh now the refs calls are against Oregon. How convinient

  169. RB September 6, 2014 7:23 pm

Norm Chow on Inside access ” Hats off to Oregon St that’s a heck of a football team” or ” We had our chances” and ” I told my players I love them and that I’m proud of each and everyone one of them” he will also say ” We never gave up we fought to the very end”

  170. UHfan808 September 6, 2014 7:24 pm

    144 RC:

Yeah, I understand what you mean, and love you back 🙂

I hope we can all be hopeful while we are watching the game

Focusing on each of the plays to point out who did what or should have would totally and completely intrigue me

Maybe then ppl might understand where we need to be in terms of progress from year to year

    Das all 😀

  171. UHfan808 September 6, 2014 7:27 pm

Our Warrior Team has *definitely not* given up!

    Cheer loud!!

  172. obachan September 6, 2014 7:30 pm

Chow has every right to protest the calls of these bush league refs; after all he is the coach. Compare that to the ridiculous actions of Pat Haden when he rushed onto the field to protest the officiating against a USC player in today’s game against Stanford. Never saw such stupid conduct by an AD during a game.

  173. gobows September 6, 2014 7:30 pm

. . . Maybe then ppl might understand where we need to be in terms of progress from year to year.

Think a good option for UH football is — and STOP THINKING THIS IS NOT AN OPTION — is div II-ville! More student involvement (like Christmas is for the kids, college football should be for the students, and that TC Ching field looks like a dang good Div II field. Students can just walk down there to games).

Start considering this already. A Grease has visited friends who attended Div II schools and went to their school games. It’s rockin’ and got plenty student body who attend. College games are for them, period.

  176. Warrior September 6, 2014 7:33 pm

Those of us actually at this game know the truth about the officiating. Those watching on tv should be here to know what’s happening

  177. Shoko September 6, 2014 7:34 pm

DSJ took a mean hit on his last return.

  178. Chow Von Appen September 6, 2014 7:35 pm

This offense is unwatchable. Woolsey is a terrible quarterback. Extremely inaccurate and can only throw five yard passes on rollouts and screen passes. UH is making oregon state look like a candidate for the college football playoffs.

  179. Shoko September 6, 2014 7:35 pm

    Yea TD.

  180. obachan September 6, 2014 7:35 pm

173 Hah; good one – don’t think BJ was a willing participant though!

  181. Chicken Grease September 6, 2014 7:36 pm

Heheh, UHfan808. All I ask is for folks to join this bandwagon before the gallery starts Borg’g, collectively, “oh, yeah, yeah, d’is good idea.”

  186. RainbowCliff September 6, 2014 7:42 pm

Obachan, When I coached here in LA I learned that regardless of the officials as a coach you must make adjustments and coach your players. Pac 12 teams are physical with rosters of southern california players. I understand your frustration with these officials as the so call roughing the passer I do question that call. What is most disturbing watching here in LA the EMPTY seats at Aloha Stadium as all I see is empty orange seats. Well next week sir is all we have as Northern Iowa should be a win. One thing for sure as all Hawaii teams do they play to the bitter end. I’m just FRUSTRATED losing against the big teams as we both know in Hawaii football history we play tough and beat these guys. Long for the DAY we beat the spread and WIN !

  187. gobows September 6, 2014 7:43 pm

Lefotu is down. He got up a little woozy.

  188. 3-Prong September 6, 2014 7:44 pm

Good job UHfan808, power of your positive thinking.

  189. Chicken Grease September 6, 2014 7:45 pm

    Ah. Lefotu hurt. Mannnnnnnn.

Holy crap hold the phone, 2 quick TDs!!!!!! By Hawaii!!!!. Play thatTE theme, UH band!!! 2 point convert . . . not good.

    Nice strip by Maggit.

  195. Chicken Grease September 6, 2014 7:51 pm

Fumble confirmed! HI has ball on Ore St. 20-ish!

Woosley. Not capitalizing on this. Does he need a Tim Robbins class?

  196. Inyoface September 6, 2014 7:52 pm

Whys the kick running when Pedroza ran out of bounds?

  197. Inyoface September 6, 2014 7:53 pm

    Clock running

  198. 4-Prong September 6, 2014 7:54 pm

UH better force more turnovers because there’s no way woolsey can throw the ball well enough to engineer sustained touchdown drives. UH needs three more turnovers and feed the ball to joey “i only run straight” iosefa.

  199. Chicken Grease September 6, 2014 7:57 pm

This is one of the main problems so far with this season’s Warriors — they bust it out later in the game. Have a feeling that this is a coaching problem — Chow and co. too much into “let’s feel ’em out first.”

    38 Ore
    23 Hawaii right now.

  200. Whats Up September 6, 2014 7:59 pm

  223. 4-Prong September 6, 2014 8:19 pm

Shoko, if that’s the criteria, then yeah, woolsey will remain the starter. Because the guy only throws check downs. he’s pretty much wildly inaccurate for any pass over 5 yards.

  224. Chicken Grease September 6, 2014 8:22 pm

Uh. You mean there’s a 4-Prong? What is this, like? Kamen Rider.

Woolsey is pretty terrible. 4.8 yards a pass = captain check down. actually, the offense for the most part was pretty terrible. they should just be a triple option team. well, nevermind. iosefa is hurt.

  245. RainbowCliff September 6, 2014 8:43 pm

3-25 in 2 in a half season. Empty seats all over Aloha Stadium. News print from current UH AD that Hawaii football will no longer exist because of financial difficulties. Man this HURTS watching and hearing all this sad news. Just tired good folks of this LOSING as being a former bow with so much PRIDE we always played from the beginning to the end. Well next week is Northern Iowa as HOPEFULLY should be a win. Always glad the boys never quit but moral victories don’t count in the win column. Good night folks as my apologies are in order if I offend BUT just tired of this losing and seeing this once proud program being at this stage. Aloha !

  246. Chicken Grease September 6, 2014 8:44 pm

OK, now. Football Warriors got their two big tests . . . rest of games (10) s/b gravy, right? You people can’t be “moral victory”ing all season now.

Stop kidding yourselves. You don’t live in North Korea.

CBS Sports Network (247 Oceanic digital cable, 1247 Oceanic HD) said there was a good crowd. They got Hawaiian and other non-Anglo names right and good!

  249. RainbowCliff September 6, 2014 8:50 pm

#236RB: Bruddah, you made my night despite another lost. Don’t want to see Chows post game show as you accurately stated the exact words he says after every lost. Definitely you the ONE to write his memoirs after all said and done. FUNNY !

    Good night my friend !

  250. oneseason September 6, 2014 8:55 pm

UH Athletics did some aggressive marketing this week, calling season ticket holders about upgrading their seats. They were smart to strike while the iron was hot.

    Chicken Grease good night !

Aloha Stadium on TV looks like orange lego parts disconnected every where. A pleasure knowing you are a TRUE fan. I wish a WIN just for you next week !

Thank you for rooting and staying with the team. It’s fans like you I always admired and love playing for. You are truly the VERY BEST !

We have to look at these 2 games as a preseason even though it counts. It shows leading up to the mwc we can hang with the PAC-12 big boys. Still need a couple tweeks but this team has tenacity.

  265. Inyoface September 6, 2014 10:02 pm

Next game is a must win. If not, I think it’s a done deal. No more late quarter surges, they’ll have to impose their will from start to finish.

We have to look at these 2 games as a preseason even though it counts. It shows leading up to the mwc we can hang with the PAC-12 big boys.

Your “preseason” words are good, inyo’. That’s a good positive outlook on current Warrior football items. Best to you on this.

I take exception, however, with your “big boys” use here, inyo’. It implies that our own Warriors are not “big boys” when, in fact, they are.

Yes, I have no visions of human-filled Warrior uniforms strolling into an Ohs’Kosh B’Gosh outlet nor do I see them needing post-diaper lower torso specials.

Heard use of “now we get to play with the BIG BOYS” during the Sugar Bowl situation back when. Mercy Lord, why??? And why are some of you still WEARING UH vs. Georgia Sugar Bowl shirts, I mean, talk about more outdated than bell bottoms and orange ruffled tux’ shirts, ick.

  267. 4-Prong September 6, 2014 10:28 pm

UH actually couldn’t hang with oregon state. Oregon state kind of gave it away and self destructed a little at the end. That’s why all the comments were about oregon state needing to sustain focus in the second half and clean up the mental errors and dumb penalties for pac-12 play. This game was oregon state’s preseason more than anything else.

Our offense couldn’t sustain any kind of drive at all until that final touchdown drive. Woolsey is wildly inaccurate in the pocket or on any throws over 5 yards. The rest of the scores were products of being able to play a short field because of freak turnovers. UH was dominated statistically in all phases of the game (except for punting, probably) and Oregon state isn’t even a top tier pac-12 team.

  268. jeezy33 September 6, 2014 10:29 pm

I’m not doctor… But it honestly looked on the sidelines like a torn ACL for JGW. Huge loss if he misses serious time. It didn’t look good though. Had ice on his knee and couldn’t put any weight on it.

  269. cocobean September 6, 2014 10:31 pm

0-2. to sum up the game – one step forward, two steps back.

positives – beat the spread, no traffic/parking problems.

  270. 808WarriorFan September 6, 2014 10:37 pm

SIMPLY PUT WE WERE OUT COACHED TONIGHT. Ikaika looked terrible; he couldn’t hit the side of a barn from 10 yards. All that talk about increasing the rotation; didn’t see it.

  271. Not an Expert September 6, 2014 10:41 pm

Live TV and PPV does hurt live attendance. Does UH share in the revenue from the ticket sales? Do they get anything for the parking? Do they get anything from the concession sales? Do they get anything from signage advertisement?

  272. Not an Expert September 6, 2014 10:42 pm

The UH athletic department being compliant under Title IX allows UH to receive federal funding. However this funding cannot go to the athletic department. How much federal funding does UH receive for being Title IX compliant?

UH actually couldn’t hang with oregon state. Oregon state kind of gave it away and self destructed a little at the end.

Hawaii could have hung with the Beavers [sounds of crickets for a few minutes] . . . if there was:

    1) a bit more enthusiasm from the Warriors in the first through early 3rd quarters;

    2) if Woolsey wasn’t the same “Johnny ‘Ikaika’ Overthrow” that he was from last week (and that’s being conservative — which a Grease is 😀 ; in many respects, he was worse tonight than last week).

Score points at the beginning. Not the end. Hawaii turned it up at the end. They better start doing it at the beginning.

Not necessarily disagreeing with you here, 4-Prong (or can I also call you, Riderman :), arguably the coolest Kamen Rider).

  274. pollypicador September 6, 2014 11:20 pm

One of these days I’m going to take a “real” roller coaster ride.

    There’s nothing else to say.

  275. markazulu September 6, 2014 11:28 pm

realistically going into this season everyone thought we would lose to oregon state and washington. I think the scores 17-16 and 38-30 didn’t come to mind though. Most of the time i saw people predicting us losing by multiple tds. So though i think it’s not exactly the most flattering thing to be 0-2 we did play hard against some big time competition. I think if Hawai’i plays physical like they did with Washington and Oregon State they should do ok in the Mountain West.

  276. markazulu September 6, 2014 11:44 pm

I just wish to see a BIG improvement in our Passing Game. Teams are gonna be stacking the box to stop that bulldozer known as Iosefa. We need to be able to take advantage of that.

  277. st. anthony trojan September 6, 2014 11:48 pm

Seems to me…from what me read on here.. mostly from ST.. FROM SCRIMMAGE N spring game…higgins always had the better stats…n never had as much reps as woosley…me just wonder how they are rating the quarterbacks…or maybe was just a bad game for him…but his qb rating with first game was under 50…n this one also…n his completion is not to good also…maybe he is a good athletic.. but just wrong position…HE DOES NOT HAVE IT 4 THIS POSITION…

  278. st. anthony trojan September 6, 2014 11:57 pm

Hawaii… can’t score points…if was a timmy back there…n if we down 35.. he can n has rung it up…from most comments on here..n from the stats…he is not a very accurate passer…stability is the name of the game… all great ones have bad games…
qb has to be stable n consistent….which we do not have right now…

Ne way..hope the walking ‘wounded’ heal well…n hope our center can get back soon also…

  279. markazulu September 6, 2014 11:58 pm

If Woolsey isn’t able to have a good showing next week do you guys think they should re-open the QB competition between Graham/higgins/woolsey?

  280. UHfan808 September 7, 2014 12:11 am

    280 markazulu:

Regarding Woosley – Are you talking ability, leadership, and/or confidence?

  281. UHfan808 September 7, 2014 12:18 am

    So…

What improvements on the field did you see need to be made, in your opinion?

(Yes, I’m referring to *field play* and not asking anything about UH Admin drama 😯 )

  282. markazulu September 7, 2014 12:25 am

I would say confidence wise just re-open it not to “replace” him but to motivate him. I think Woosley is quite the athletic guy. Tonight though Woosley didn’t seem to have that “Swag” he sort of had last week. He had a rough night but i think credit should go mostly to Oregon State getting into his head with the pressure.

  283. markazulu September 7, 2014 12:29 am

  286. 3-Prong September 7, 2014 5:04 am

    Points from yesterday:
    – officiating was suspect and took us out of game early
    – dline looked good
    -Mannion is legit
    – osu pressure exposed accuracy issue with Ikaika
    – higgins would have been more accurate (especially on the shorter passes) but could he have escaped the osu pressure as well as Ikaika
    – taylor could have thrown better long ball but could he have bought the time to do so
    – players played hard start to finish creating the comeback. It wasn’t handed to them

  289. Inyoface September 7, 2014 6:07 am

I was surprised to see Iosefa fumble, he’s always sure handed. Did ewaliko play? Not only did Woosley overthrow but I seen a lot of throws to the feet and in the dirt not even close to the receiver. He needs to aim for the head. We still need to get over that hump and hopefully that’ll be in the next game. Would be nice to have a win before playing Colorado.

  290. wafan September 7, 2014 6:08 am

  293. st. anthony trojan September 7, 2014 6:28 am

Me wonder..(oops sorry use that word) what would be the final score if our QB could complete at least 50% of his passes….n if was 60% completion…think we would be at 2-0 now ?

With washington we had a distinct advantage..in running 96 plays…but to no avail..
    96 plays n 50% completion..we should be up in the 30’s….n not only 16…

  294. Shoko September 7, 2014 6:36 am

I think Ewaliko caught a swing pass for a couple yards in the beginning of the game. He ran into his own blocking receiver.

Iosefa does a good job securing the ball and doesn’t fumble much, but what I noticed is that his fumbles seem to happen at critical times like in the red zone.

  295. Shoko September 7, 2014 6:46 am

Oh boy, sports books has the Northern Iowa – Hawaii game as a pick ’em giving NIU a slight edge.

If Woolsey isn’t able to have a good showing next week do you guys think they should re-open the QB competition between Graham/higgins/woolsey?

Of course we collectively think this. But, Chow’s the one who ultimately decides, and that means keeping Woolsey in until he gets injured for the season, or some other reason that would take him off the roster.

To a Grease — and, well, quite frankly, the rest of you, too — Graham (1st) and Higgins (2nd) earned this position a long time ago. That the decision to put either in the QB position early, early, early on should be the single most criticism, if we had to choose only one, of Chow.

    Lawaia September 7, 2014 at 4:26 am

Ikaika, pay no attention to the monday morning quarterbacks on this site with their negative comments,

Um. It’s Sunday. Secondly . . . we just wanna know he keeps throwing over heads. Cripes maybe the government should hire him to fire missiles at ISIS or Hamas headquarters if he has a yen to volley so far. I mean, cripes. He’s like the Charlie Sheen Wild Thing character without the eyeglasses.

    markazulu September 7, 2014 at 12:29 am

The one thing that I love about the Norm Chow Era though is you see the heart and that never give up attitude. They need to just find a way to win.

Chow’s supposed to be the steward for this. More than any incoming UH coach, we had just this expectation indirectly or otherwise. Look at his pedigree: NFL, USC, UCLA, etc. He should have seen every kind of situation so much so to know when to take calculated risks. His brand of conservative play makes the Tea Partiers look like flower children!

Really beginning to think Chow’s using the UH football program as mere training ground for his assistant coaches. This is why a Grease thinks UH football should go Div II — at least we’d KNOW team coaches are striving for the next level.

1 thing lacking on offense this year is speed who would’ve thought the loss of Kwamane Bowens, Bubba Poueu-Luna would hurt this much…The offense gotta take some of those speed guys and get them some playing time…As a Coach you always wanna put your best team on the field and I really think they need not worry about who to redshirt at positions that are critical to the teams success

  306. Tempmanoa September 7, 2014 8:46 am

Decent opponents have exposed all the things wrong with the team– lack of heart is not one of them. But while these things are fixable, there is not enough time to get us to a winning season. The piling up of losses, mistakes and bad play is starting to lose even the most loyal fans– too painful to lose when you are hoping and praying for a win or at least good play without so many costly mistakes. It is backnto the drawing boards for the offense and a lot of teaching and drilling for the defense– need to play as smart as they play hard.

  307. RB September 7, 2014 8:56 am

  311. markazulu September 7, 2014 9:56 am

Don’t lose hope guys remember we just played two Pac 12 teams. I’m sure during the offseason everyone predicted we would be 0-2, but i’m also pretty sure nobody expected that we would lose by only a total of 9 points. I know we still lost but Hawai’i arguably played it’s two toughest opponents pretty well.

  312. A-House September 7, 2014 9:58 am

Udub players were correct to say that Eastern Washington is a better team than UH – final score 55 to 52!!

Iosefa fumble early on the first drive was an omen of what was to come – so many little things and big things – I am a strong believer in such things

disappointed that Woosley was so far off target last night – too high, too low passes – maybe 6 or 7 of these!!!

the almost pick 6 at the 3 yard line turned out to be a difference of 14 points — UH missed and Udub TE caught to pass for a TD

Taz Stevenson could not believe that the RB shook off his tackle for a TD at the 3 yard line

  313. A-House September 7, 2014 10:00 am

like the new OL recruit said, he was impressed with the never die attitude of the team – played tough!

perhaps, others who have received offers will make the same conclusion and accept UH’s offer – be it OL or DL

woolsey over threw a wide open harding by at least 15 yards. who the hell was he throwing at? he must be seeing ghosts. i haven’t seen passing that turrible since glen freitas. why does he throw behind the receiver so often. clearly he doesn’t know how to judge a moving target. conclusion…piss poor coaching. no starting qb should be throwing at a 40 percent clip, unless its in a hurricane or a mud bowl. might as well go with beau reilly.

  319. Ya_Think September 7, 2014 10:26 am

Reilly or Prater. At least those two guys still have eligibility after this season. If they put in Graham or Higgins, Chow would be in the same position as last year. A quarterback without any meaningful experience.

I gather JGW’s injuries may be pretty bad though. Going to be a tough loss for the defense.
