UH loses sixth in a row

RENO — It was a familiar theme for the Warrios: too many mistakes, too many missed opportunities. The 14-0 lead was written in smoke, especially with the Colin Kaepernick-led running attack.

There were short punts. Fumbled punt returns. A touchdown nullified by a penalty. A touchback nullified by a penalty. Good field position nullified by a penalty.

And when the Warriors needed to make a defensive stand, they could not prevent a 6-minute drive that culminated in an insurance-padding field goal.

I wonder if coaches have wondered aloud how come so many unforced errors? the mental preparation, who is in charge of that?

C’mon Warriors! It starts with each one of you stepping up!

Our feeling is we can cover cross-country, football and women’s volleyball.
Then again, the feeling was a lot stronger before I stayed up all night to gamble.

    before i hit the sack….

the embattled captain stood his ground, he realized it was all on him. no back door exit, no blaming second lieutenants, no excuses. he had to lead the company.out of the danger zone.

with that in mind, next year started yesterday, coach. show me some cajones. i know you’re tough; show me you’re tough. talk like you’re tough. and smart. lead my Warriors!

    Go Warriors.

  29. bighilofan2 October 31, 2009 2:52 am

    good nite Tsaikos.

  30. Bulla October 31, 2009 2:55 am

    good morning Tsaikos,

Warriors need to show up and man up and take care of Nevada’s QB once and for all. make him a kadoosh mannequin.

going to be 48 degrees in Missoula today with 25k rabid Grizzly fans….mrs. bulla would not allow me to make and bring my coveted t-shirt “Muck Fontana’ on the front. i figured if it worked for Boise, what the heck???

congrats to kahuku and the donkeys, good wins last night, thought both games were very good. if kahuku didn’t have that transfer kicker from FL, it would have been a different story.

    GO WARRIORS
    GO WILDCATS (X2)

  31. TChahng [오키나와] October 31, 2009 3:39 am

    BHF2,

Current location is Okinawa. WX forecast is scattered T-storms AM, and T-storms plus much rain in the PM. Hi-79, Lo-72. No can paddle tomorrow. Bummaz.

  32. Garret October 31, 2009 4:18 am

Ferd’s article mentions that the spread is now up to 28.5…this would be a great upset if UH can win today.

I’d like to see the D force 4 turnovers and UH turn each into TDs (28 points right there).

I’d like to see the O score a TD every time they get into the end zone. UH is one of the better teams in the country in moving the ball on offense if you go by yards or passing stats, but the worst in the red zone. Hopefully the coaches have a different scheme and the players execute it.

I’d like to see UH get an early lead and force Nevada to pass. Slow down the Nevada running game enough so that the offense can build a lead that forces Nevada to go away from the run.

  33. RainbowCliff October 31, 2009 4:35 am

Good Morning Tsaiko Nation ! GOT my BLACK Road Warrior shirt on and READY to see this 5 game losing streak come to an END !

Fright Night is here and it’s time for the Warriors to do some HEAVY trick or treat on some wolf pack salami “SUSHI” style !

I am hoping that we don’t get blown out and just compete Hawaii COMPETE ! Take NO prisoners and celebrate a TEAM victory as
that is what it is going to take to WIN in cold freeze Nevada !

We are DUE as I know everyone on this BLOG is ready to cheer, stomp, yell and WILL our boys to VICTORY !

The time has come to STAND up and be counted for as I am on the bus

    LET’S GO BOWS !

Dominated yesterday as I scored, “D” anybody up and ran the court to perfection. Won ALL four games FULL COURT !

When I left players came up to me and said “MAN I want to be like you when I get your age, how do you do it “Rainbow Legend” ?

My only answer was “it’s in the guava” young man in the guava !

  98. SteveM October 31, 2009 8:28 am

I’ll be heading for the ship with mom immediately after the game so won’t be on the blog until I get on board and buy some satellite internet minutes. This is the time an iPhone or similar–or wireless telephone modem card like ST’s is really nice. I usually can’t connect to free wifi unless I go ashore somewhere. 😐 I have not left the ship on two previous Hawaii cruises…

I will try to post my impressions and the environment of this 7-day Hawaii cruise. On board, NCL America is different from most other cruises…but it’s been 3 years since I was last on this ship. Expect less cruise director run activities since we are in port everyday…no sea days…and most people go ashore. We overnight in Maui and Nawiliwili…doesn’t this stir the imagination if we had a bunch of Tsai-kos aboard? 🙂

    GO WARRIORS!

  99. whitey October 31, 2009 8:30 am

d1, you absolutely right on iowa game officiating. they know that if iowa loses, then it has absolutely no chance for the title game. all the previous replays show that the officials were wrong in their call, but they said they were correct. i would not be surprised if the indiana coach calls the officials a bunch of jackasses after the game.

  100. LizKauai [iMac] WARRIORS! IMUA! October 31, 2009 8:31 am

    Go Warriors!

  102. djmitcho October 31, 2009 8:43 am

Im stuck at work today. I wish the game was on ESPN360 today but it isnt. Gonna have settle for the audio feed. I’ll tell you this though, ESPN360 looks great when you have a fiber optic network at work.

  103. djmitcho October 31, 2009 8:44 am

    Oh boy…Iowa takes the lead

  104. whitey October 31, 2009 8:46 am

if we play a big 10 team in the future, we don’t need to use their officials. their officials are worse than the wac. so is the sec. now when wisconsin comes here and if we are using big 10 officials, uh has to play 11 against 12. no sympathy for the big 10. they bunch of crybabies.

  105. whitey October 31, 2009 8:50 am

going to darkside to watch the game. have a safe halloween and may you get a lot of presents from the great pumpkin.

  106. Kekoa October 31, 2009 8:58 am

Sail on SteveM…wish I could join you. I’m sittin’ on the dock of the bay waiting for the SupahFreak to come back to pick me.

  107. Committed Road Warrior October 31, 2009 9:04 am

Just got back from Costco…..and I must say that in terms of overall congestion, the Pentagon City location is heads and shoulders worse than the Iwilei location. 20 minutes just to get into the parking lot, not enough carts, choke people.

Too bad this is the only one inside the beltway. Looks like my next Costco run will be at one of the locations outside of the beltway somewhere in the suburbs if I want some space.

With regards to football, too bad no ESPN360 for this game. Gonna have to listen to the online 1420AM feed.

  108. Konaboy October 31, 2009 9:18 am

    Go Warriors!!!

  109. Jack Flash October 31, 2009 9:24 am

Although I am an Ohio St. fan, i was hoping NaMaSu would put up a better showing than they did today. They actually looked great in the 1st quarter, then the wheels came off. Reminds me of Hawaii. Go Warriors! Take care of the football and be in the game til the end! Maybe… get chance!

  110. Da Punchbowl Kid October 31, 2009 9:31 am

  112. Konaboy October 31, 2009 10:01 am

  113. Konaboy October 31, 2009 10:02 am

  116. duffer (iPhone) October 31, 2009 10:03 am

    Auryte Moniz / Pilares

  117. Matt October 31, 2009 10:05 am

That’s more like it. Alright Warriors. Now the D needs to get a big stop.

  118. rasu begasu October 31, 2009 10:05 am

This is how we should always start a game, take the ball and shove it down the opponents throat.
    Quiet the crowd right down.

  119. Konaboy October 31, 2009 10:06 am

    Nice D on first down!

  120. d1島 October 31, 2009 10:07 am

    Great Opening drive; scripted maybe?

  121. d1島 October 31, 2009 10:07 am

  134. TChahng [오키나와] October 31, 2009 10:13 am

Moniz is on fire!!! Receivers are on fire!!! Go Warriors!!!

  135. Matt October 31, 2009 10:13 am

Oh yeah. You aint catching Jovonte Taylor. Come on defense. Let’s stop em again.

  136. duffer (iPhone) October 31, 2009 10:14 am

    Gotta stop the running game!

  137. Unkanesson October 31, 2009 10:15 am

    Howzit Tsaiko Nation!
WOW!! 14-0 — Shades of Washington State!
Okay, DEFENSE!! It’s on you guys now. KUPA’A!!

  138. Konaboy October 31, 2009 10:15 am

Nevada countering with the ground and pound

  139. Konaboy October 31, 2009 10:18 am

10 yard penatly nullifies a nevada TD, it’s lke we’re playing opposites today 😛

  140. d1島 October 31, 2009 10:22 am

Answer back…. get back to 2 TD lead.

  141. Committed Road Warrior October 31, 2009 10:22 am

    I’ll take the over, Alex.

  142. Konaboy October 31, 2009 10:22 am

Man Nevada is just pounding the ball down our throats. Our offense needs to keep the our D off the field or they are going to be winded.

  143. rasu begasu October 31, 2009 10:22 am

    too easy

  144. duffer (iPhone) October 31, 2009 10:23 am

    Answer that score!

  145. chopsueyboy October 31, 2009 10:24 am

    GO WARRIORS!!!!!!

  146. Mad Dog October 31, 2009 10:24 am

I just came home from an errand, but if no one has mentioned it, the game in online.

    http://channelsurfing.net/watch-ncaa-football.php?w=83

  147. rasu begasu October 31, 2009 10:24 am

Just keep scoring, we can win

  148. Pride. October 31, 2009 10:25 am

Like Konaboy said, Warriors cannot self-destruct.

  149. Konaboy October 31, 2009 10:25 am

Hawaii’s penalties are already starting to stack up. Mack’s gotta get control of that.

  150. duffer (iPhone) October 31, 2009 10:27 am

Moniz releasing much earlier. Not waiting to long.

  151. d1島 October 31, 2009 10:30 am

    Come on, DLine!

  152. rasu begasu October 31, 2009 10:30 am

    mac=no balls *sigh*

  153. duffer (iPhone) October 31, 2009 10:32 am

It seems like the DE line up too inside, no outside containment.

  154. Konaboy October 31, 2009 10:35 am

Well, 1st qtr thoughts… I think only 1 dropped pass? thats a big improvement, Moniz looks great, seems way more comfortable and his release is quick, accuracy gets an A. 4 penalties is too much though. D played decent, but looks like they will have their hands full…

  155. TChahng [오키나와] October 31, 2009 10:36 am

OOOhh that looked like a forward lateral, but we’ll take that fumble. 😀

  156. Konaboy October 31, 2009 10:37 am

replay looks close but too me that looks like a forward pass. But maybe not indisputable?

  157. Mad Dog October 31, 2009 10:38 am

If it was a forward pass, was there a blocker downfield?

  158. Konaboy October 31, 2009 10:39 am

Another great series for the D, we gotta get another TD.

  159. Committed Road Warrior October 31, 2009 10:40 am

    98 yards to go.

  160. d1島 October 31, 2009 10:44 am

    I like it!

  161. Konaboy October 31, 2009 10:44 am

THank you UH Special teams!!! Huge Nevada turnover. Go Warriors!!

  162. duffer (iPhone) October 31, 2009 10:44 am

Don’t know why Moniz doesn’t throw to Salas on short yardage

  163. rasu begasu October 31, 2009 10:45 am

what happened to the play calling?
at leastb we got the ball back!

  164. d1島 October 31, 2009 10:46 am

    Dang!

  165. Konaboy October 31, 2009 10:46 am

    *sigh* penalties still a problem

  166. Konaboy October 31, 2009 10:48 am

I say go for it, you gotta mek strong in these situations!!

  167. TChahng [오키나와] October 31, 2009 10:49 am

    Mack, Go for it!!!

  168. Mad Dog October 31, 2009 10:49 am

Why do we have to call a time out to decide to go for the first on 4th down? That decision should have been made after the 3rd down play was called.

  169. Konaboy October 31, 2009 10:52 am

they didn’t pick up the blitz, D-time!

  170. d1島 October 31, 2009 10:52 am

    Ka toosh!

  171. d1島 October 31, 2009 10:53 am

D4mn! 2 great plays for naught

  172. Konaboy October 31, 2009 10:53 am

Gotta give Nevada credit on that 3rd down conversion, that was a mean grab.

  173. Konaboy October 31, 2009 10:57 am

Thank goodness Nevada just shot themselves in the foot with that holding penalty, Hawaii did not have their stuff together on that play (coaches?!?), andCcolin just showed why he’s so lethal.

  174. d1島 October 31, 2009 11:02 am

    Dare say…rhythm?

  175. duffer (iPhone) October 31, 2009 11:02 am

    Good pass protection

  176. d1島 October 31, 2009 11:06 am

    Come on Warriors!

  177. duffer (iPhone) October 31, 2009 11:09 am

    Let the punter punt

  178. d1島 October 31, 2009 11:10 am

13-21-233-2-0…..who woulda thought Moniz’ line woulda looked like that at this point?

  179. duffer (iPhone) October 31, 2009 11:12 am

The D-line can’t shed the blocks

  180. djmitcho October 31, 2009 11:12 am

found the game on channelsurfing dot net, but man the graphics are killing me.

  181. d1島 October 31, 2009 11:13 am

    😯

  182. Committed Road Warrior October 31, 2009 11:15 am

    djmitcho:

I think the video graphics is the Nevada jumbotron that would be seen as if you were actually at the game in Reno.

  183. djmitcho October 31, 2009 11:17 am

    dang it…int

  184. djmitcho October 31, 2009 11:18 am

CRW, yeah…it’s bugging the crap out of me..but hey free game

  185. djmitcho October 31, 2009 11:20 am

    Horrible d by uh.

  186. d1島 October 31, 2009 11:22 am

Gotta rock ’em back on their heels….

  187. djmitcho October 31, 2009 11:25 am

What happened to the team that was playing in the first quarter? This is a totally different UH team here in the 2nd Q

  188. d1島 October 31, 2009 11:27 am

    Regroup.

  189. Committed Road Warrior October 31, 2009 11:30 am

    Moniz: 15-26 234 2-1

  190. d1島 October 31, 2009 11:31 am

    GO WILDCATS X 2!

  191. Kazz (blkberry_storm) October 31, 2009 11:32 am

Nice preview segment of Wahine Basketball. Lookin forward to my first year as a season ticket holder!

  192. Kazz (blkberry_storm) October 31, 2009 11:35 am

The grass is green… In case anyone didn’t notice. 🙄

  193. Garret October 31, 2009 11:37 am

Halftime adjustments will decide this game! The game is much closer than Nevada hoped and the Warriors need a good start to grab the momentum back.

The first 2 drives by each time will show who adjusted best and will probably determine who wins this game. I hope that things go the Warriors way today.

The D needs to stop this first drive to start the half…some mistakes by Nevada like they have made in the first half (bad snap, penalty, turnover) would be nice too.

  194. wafan October 31, 2009 11:40 am

    Go Warriors!

  195. Kazz (blkberry_storm) October 31, 2009 11:43 am

For the 6th game in a row… will the lack of motivation and adjustment kill us again????????

  196. FloridaTed October 31, 2009 11:44 am

What happened to Moniz? First Quarter he looks like Colt Brennan and now he looks like a fourth stringer.

He misses wide open Salas , Pilares, Taylor etc, Throws unnecessary interceptions and why throw these greedy downfield passes if you’re off by 15 yards? It seems, all of a sudden, Moniz forgot his reads?

Second Quarter offense, mainly Moniz, is costing us the lead and probably the game. I hope his concussion is not still affecting him, I hope they didn’t rush him back..

Well, at least for the first Quarter we looked like the old Warriors, there’s hope yet.

  197. Committed Road Warrior October 31, 2009 11:44 am

    Scoreboard Update:

    SMU beats Tulsa, 27-13
Boise ahead of San Jose 38-7, mid 4th.
La. Tech leads Idaho 21-7, start of 2nd.

  198. d1島 October 31, 2009 11:47 am

    WARRIORS!

    IMUA!

  199. FloridaTed October 31, 2009 11:47 am

We squandered two touch downs in the fist half, the only way we have a chance is playing from ahead, well….

  200. d1島 October 31, 2009 11:48 am

    3 and out….

    3 and out….

    3 and out….

  201. Garret October 31, 2009 11:48 am

    FloridaTed,

I think that I counted at least 2 drops by one particular receiver, which doesn’t help Moniz.

  202. postmanke October 31, 2009 11:50 am

We need a play on D. We also need oxygen!

  203. wafan October 31, 2009 11:53 am

    Good D!!!

  204. wafan October 31, 2009 11:55 am

I gave up watching the score board feed. Very annoying graphics and angles.

  205. wafan October 31, 2009 11:57 am

    Torres is out?

    Uh-oh.

Come on Kealoha! Hang on to the ball!!!

  206. d1島 October 31, 2009 11:57 am

    Nice pass play…throw and catch

  207. wafan October 31, 2009 11:59 am

Why is he still in? Is he that indispensible to the OL? Playing like he did last year.

  208. d1島 October 31, 2009 12:01 pm

…nothing like getting catching tips from the Conditioning Coach!

  209. d1島 October 31, 2009 12:01 pm

…..then again, he was a pretty good receiver.

  210. wafan October 31, 2009 12:01 pm

    Oh, my.

  211. postmanke October 31, 2009 12:03 pm

    is there a backup punter?

  212. Garret October 31, 2009 12:07 pm

No points on the first 2 Nevada drives is a great thing!

  213. Hank October 31, 2009 12:08 pm

love the way we’re fighting! GO WARRIORS!

  214. Garret October 31, 2009 12:11 pm

    INT in the end zone…#$%^

  215. postmanke October 31, 2009 12:11 pm

Navy in a dog fight. Navy leading 20-24 late 4Q. amazing they can even compete against Temple. Temple’s TE outweighs any player on the Navy team. Nonetheless, great coaching. Not sure if they can pull it out – Temple is a very good team.

  216. Hawaiiroller October 31, 2009 12:11 pm

Aloha everyone! Oops, maybe I should have waited. (int).

Just finished with last client and happy to see the Warriors are playing well.

Hope everyone is having a great Halloween. 🙂

  217. wafan October 31, 2009 12:11 pm

    Arrrrrrggggggggggg!

  218. Stan Manley October 31, 2009 12:12 pm

    Go Warr…no no nooooooo!!!

  219. Committed Road Warrior October 31, 2009 12:13 pm

End-zone pick has gotta be deflating. Only adds to our already-horrid red-zone stats.

  220. d1島 October 31, 2009 12:14 pm

    👿

  221. wafan October 31, 2009 12:16 pm

    Good line, “. . . 25-yards and a vapor trail.”

  222. wafan October 31, 2009 12:16 pm

    28 unanswered points.

    Dang.

  223. wafan October 31, 2009 12:19 pm

    Nice, Alex!

    Leave him in!!!

  224. Committed Road Warrior October 31, 2009 12:21 pm

Do we have to bypass the red-zone just in order to score?

  225. Garret October 31, 2009 12:25 pm

I don’t know if UH can catch up by kicking FGs…

  226. wafan October 31, 2009 12:25 pm

Still only 2 points in the 3rd!!!

  227. Garret October 31, 2009 12:25 pm

And missing a FG is even worse.

  228. wafan October 31, 2009 12:26 pm

    Dang. This is disheartening.

  229. rasu begasu October 31, 2009 12:26 pm

    mac, mac,mac
why a fg after that time out

  230. NYUH October 31, 2009 12:29 pm

the decision to kick was obvious. why waste a timeout?

  231. Hawaiiroller October 31, 2009 12:29 pm

  240. Hawaiiroller October 31, 2009 12:47 pm

Good job!!!! Here we go, the 4th quarter comeback continues.

  241. Matt October 31, 2009 12:47 pm

    Come on defense.

  242. LizKauai (iPhone) October 31, 2009 12:47 pm

    Go Warriors!

  243. Garret October 31, 2009 12:49 pm

Offsides on kickoff coverage…when UH had gotten a touchback.

  244. Konaboy October 31, 2009 12:50 pm

Our kicking game is pretty bad.

  245. Garret October 31, 2009 12:50 pm

Horrible result on the squib kick…45 yard line for Nevada.

  246. d1島 October 31, 2009 12:51 pm

    Does UA make bullet-proof cleats?

  247. Garret October 31, 2009 12:51 pm

1st-and-25 now because of the chop block! The D has to stop Nevada now.

  248. Konaboy October 31, 2009 12:53 pm

Well, 1st & 25 is basically gift wrapping a 3 and out to the D, and our D was no where to be found…..

  249. cavewarrior October 31, 2009 12:56 pm

the first defender to get into the backfield must go for Kapernic …not the fb com’n warriors!

  250. Committed Road Warrior October 31, 2009 12:57 pm

Game, for all intents and purposes, would be over if Nevada scores on this drive.

  251. Garret October 31, 2009 1:00 pm

    Block that FG!

  252. Konaboy October 31, 2009 1:03 pm

We need another one play drive!

  253. d1島 October 31, 2009 1:10 pm

    djmitcho,

Whitworth in the 3rd OT against PLU, 21-21.
    Go Pirates!

  254. rasu begasu October 31, 2009 1:10 pm

    Oh My wat an A$$

  255. rasu begasu October 31, 2009 1:12 pm

in spite of turnovers, second best played game of the year.
slowly but surely team is improving

  256. chopsueyboy October 31, 2009 1:12 pm

Lots of positives to build on.
negatives that can be corrected (I hope)

  257. Oh my! October 31, 2009 1:13 pm

rasu: I know you’re upset with Coach Mac, but really, calling him an A$$ is over the line. I mean you already called him a eunuch today. Enough is enough.

  258. InLV October 31, 2009 1:13 pm

I heard that Jim Donovan is going to pay the extra $$$ to put Coach Mack in First Class on the flight back home.

Reason: He doesn’t deserve to be put in COACH.

  259. rasu begasu October 31, 2009 1:14 pm

I’ll never watch a JUMBO-TRON only game again

  260. MattO October 31, 2009 1:17 pm

Rasu – that was TERRIBLE – I mean, I know it was only $5, but man, half the time, we couldn’t tell where the ball was.

AND CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHY WE CALLED A TIMEOUT IN THE FINAL SECONDS OF THE GAME?

  261. d1島 October 31, 2009 1:20 pm

    djmitcho,

Pirates hold Lutes on 4th down in 3OT to win by 24-21! Congratulations!

  262. wafan October 31, 2009 1:20 pm

    Some positive things! Yahoo!!!

If we can stop hurting ourselves with stupid penalties that would be a great thing! The offense continues to move the ball. They need to not practice at Damien’s 80-yard field. D is starting to find themselves.

  263. rasu begasu October 31, 2009 1:28 pm

I was against the hiring of mac two years ago and my comments on the blog at that time reflected my thoughts.
it is extremely unfortunate that i still feel this way.
but, until the day he improves or quits, i will support the team anyways.

being that i am one of the kool-aid drinkers, i’m here for the long run
    *sigh*

  264. Garret October 31, 2009 1:29 pm

    Updating the stat:

    3rd quarter scoring this season:
    UH 0, Idaho 7
    UH 0, Fresno State 14
    UH 0, La Tech 14
    UH 0, UNLV 7
    UH 0, Washington State 7
    UH 2, BSU 10
    UH 0, Nevada 7

Total is now 66-2 against D-IA competition.

So, the trend goes like this:
    2006: +106
    2007: +14
    2008: -56
    2009: -64 (66-2 over 6 games)

  265. d1島 October 31, 2009 1:30 pm

    InLV,

Salty, eh? Next time, take the points! 😈

  266. Garret October 31, 2009 1:30 pm

That should be over 7 games, not 6 games…but it really doesn’t matter.

  267. rasu begasu October 31, 2009 1:34 pm

Damien has a 80 yard field?
Guess that explains the last 40 years in FB.
Thats like a school with no girls…………..oh, that too.

So ahem, uuum, cough, is this where all the hotel street talent wen’ graduate?

  272. Garret October 31, 2009 1:40 pm

At least it appears that SMU will make it to the Hawaii Bowl, which should help the attendance. If the attendance drops too low, the Hawaii Bowl could end so SMU’s win today is good for Hawaii and UH.

Bo Mitchell got injured last week so JJ put in a true freshman at QB and it looks like Bo Mitchell might not get his job back. Until last week Padron was going to redshirt, so things changed in a hurry.

Padron had to enter the game against nationally ranked Houston on the road and completed 11 out of 16 passes for 141 yards and a TD with no INTs. Not bad for a true freshman throwing away his redshirt status.

Padron started today at Tulsa and set a SMU record for passing yards in a first start. He was 20-30 for 354 yards, 2 TDs, and 0 INTs.

If UH doesn’t make the Hawaii Bowl and any other C-USA team is there too, I worry that the attendance will be horrible and the bowl game’s status could be in danger…especially if UH doesn’t make the bowl again the following year with the brutal schedule.

  273. Garret October 31, 2009 1:44 pm

The only potential flaw in that plan is that SMU is tied for first in their division of C-USA (they already beat both teams that played in the C-USA championship game last season), so there is a chance that they could go to the Liberty Bowl and a team like East Carolina or Tulsa would be in the Hawaii Bowl…

    “Best” loss of the year?

After the 54-9 car-jacking last week. I’ll be able to sleep much better tonight.

Offensive line had a pretty good game against those hyped up DEs for Nevada, I never noticed those two all game long. We yielded one sack, BUT… BUT, the holdings and the false starts might as well count as sacks.

Redzone… Redzone… Redzone… WTF?!?!?!?!?!?! Yikes! Same ole same ole… and sans wildcat with Funaki today.

Nice to see Paipai and Fonoti get some pressure in Nevada’s backfield. While it was few and far in between the effort may show some improvement on the physical status of these two as they cannot be 100% at this point.

So Nevada was giving upwards of 25+ points huh? SO WHO LOST MONEY?????????????????????????????????????????? 😆 😆 😆 … GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!!! ALL OF YOU!!!!!!! AINOKEA WHO YOU, BUT GOOD FOR YOU FOR PUTTING MONEY AGAINST HAWAII’S TEAM!!!!!!!! G-O-O-D FOR YOU!!!!!!!! 😆

My concern for the rest of the season remains in correcting past mistakes, while new ones pop up. How many times did we have to correct turnover issues. Today the offense didn’t fumble balls, BUT next week will they regress again? Today the offensive line didn’t yield more than one sack, but had oodles of discpline problems. Next week, will the false starts and the holdings cease, but will the sacks return?

So far, we’ve been presented with issues to correct. The staff and players worked on correcting those certain issues on a game to game basis, but OTHER issues keep poping up. Seems like the ole case of a bandage versus corrective surgery.

Overall, we did ok for a loss. No loss is acceptable, however, a complete blowout isn’t acceptable either.

KEEP YOUR HEADS UP WARRIOR FAITHFUL!!!!!!!! WE FOUGHT TODAY DESPITE OURSELVES AND ALMOST TOOK IT TO THE WIRE!!!!!

Colin Kaepernick in Florida, would make Tim Tebow’s rushing and passing stats look childish.

  279. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 31, 2009 2:06 pm

We stay competitive in beginning but we need to also finish strong. Offense did a GREAT job!

Our defense still cannot stop the run and I can’t see them doing anything between now and the end of the year that will allow them to….so hopefully we can force teams to pass.

Why is Kia still playing on the field? I mean you figure after the *3rd* penalty he would have been pulled….According to Curran, Kia is the “BEST” guy we have for the job………..that is one of the saddest things i have ever heard. =(

    Green Eyes,
I may cut down the coach like you do.
But unlike you, I am a fan and will cheer on the tean no matter what the score.
Also unlike you, I do not hide behind several user names and snipe at just anybody that riles me.
I do admit to pointing out people like you and and several of your other
names that you use who feed off of the true fans woes or disapointments and in fact seem to take a perverse joy in rubbing it in and pretend to be hurt when rebuked.

I say to you as a fellow human being, therapy may help you in your twisted sense of reality that you are forced to live in each and evry tortured day.
Medication also may due wonders to your chemically imbalanced brain
which would allow you a normal interaction with the general populace.

  295. Kazz ("Shoji" in Japanese means "1000".) October 31, 2009 3:03 pm

    RE: False starts and holding.

Those two DEs for Nevada had some decent stats coming into this game. No doubt the offensive line was warned about this.

I’d assume that when one’s confidence isn’t at an all time high, that individual will be more likely to commit mental errors (i.e. false starts). Once you commit that you get beat and they result in the holdings…

Granted there was ONE instance in which one of the false start calls looked a bit questionable, I’ll take the referee’s word that they were legit.

  296. postmanke October 31, 2009 3:06 pm

Kap doesn’t even come close to the passion and leadership as Tebow has for the game. not even close! He maybe a little bit faster but there is no way he is near the same caliber a player. I’m not too sure if he is even a better passer. Tebow’s decision making speaks for itself. I’m not too sure that Kap’s throwing motion would even make into a SEC starting lineup.

Kap is a very great athlete but I’ve seen him struggle in too many games. He is a streaky player but when he gets it going he can get it going. But not in the SEC

  297. Garret October 31, 2009 3:07 pm

    Kazz,

Actually, I agree with postmanke. Kaepernick is a little thin to take the hits he would take running a Tebow-like offense in the SEC.

Kaepernick’s stats against higher level competition:
Notre Dame: 39 yards rushing, 12/23 passing for 149 yards, 0 TDs, 2 INTs
Missouri: 59 yards rushing, 17/28 passing for 146 yards and a TD

Nothing like his stats against the WAC or bad teams like UNLV.

  298. postmanke October 31, 2009 3:07 pm

What is Mac going to do with our punter??

  299. Garret October 31, 2009 3:10 pm

    postmanke,

Maybe let him kick it straight instead of forcing a first-year punter to try to kick for the corners?

  300. postmanke October 31, 2009 3:16 pm

Yeah I say let him boom it.. if he out kicks his coverage, he out kicks he coverage.. these 10 yard punts has to stop.

  301. Slugger October 31, 2009 3:17 pm

Well, it was a better game than last week. Some improvement. The penalties kill us. It shows that we don’t have the depth when we can’t pull #77 out for a while. Go, Alex Green! Lewis had some good tackles.

    THANKS HAWAII!!!!

    Padron sets SMU freshman record
    October 31, 2009 6:10 PM
    Posted by ESPN.com’s Graham Watson

SMU true freshman quarterback Kyle Padron has the Mustangs still angling for a Conference USA West title.

Padron completed 20-of-30 passes for 354 yards and two touchdowns in a 27-13 win over Tulsa. His 354 passing yards was the most by a SMU quarterback in his first start.

Padron was named the starter earlier this week after staring quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell was ruled out because of a dislocated shoulder and a partially torn labrum. Padron had played against Houston last week after Mitchell went down.

The Mustangs are now tied atop Conference USA West with Houston, however, the Cougars hold the tiebreaker with a win over the Mustangs last week.

It’s amazing how quickly coach June Jones has been able to turn this team around and make it a formidable squad in Conference USA.

Took an hour to get on the Nevada website, I knew I shouldn’t have used “gowarriors” as my password.

I thought I saw a lot of positives today. Moniz has a lot of potential and I would be surprised if Alex Green doesn’t start from now on. I don’t why he can create yards while LWJ can’t.

The D had a nice game for the most part.

Would like to see better game management on the couching side. If they had gotten the FG they would have had a chance that last drive.

Warriors and Wildcats (the beast) lost today.

Wildcats lose to Montana in Missoula, whew, some officiating that would make even a blind man shudder, but we lost 31-10, cannot beat the darlings of the big sky conference…..

the beast was double teamed chopped block again, this time the left knee, not as bad as the rt knee….he’s just very upset. had a chance to play DE today, and every time he was the backside pursuit, a couple of tackles, a great goal line stand, 1st and goal on the 4 yd line and Montana went for it on 4th down…..stopped!

bye week, heal up, MRI monday, fitted for a brace on that knee also…NAU, in 2 weeks, he’ll be back. :(:(:(

frustrated for him……don’t mind getting beat, but don’t cheat…….whew.

Warriors had the lead I read….and then Nevada came back…….ouch

    Awwwwwwwwwww Shucks.

Watched the Oregon Coach only intensify from the second quarter on.
He had a plan, kept moving the offense along, was in total control of the game. and, he had the horses to pull it off. Masoli played great, their
coach was way better. Intense. Inspirational. I loved it. kept thinking about the Boise game a while ago, and how that man had a lot of class in handling his playmaker who stepped out of bounds at the end of Oregon BSU game. He didn’t cry, he took care of business.

don’t want to second guess why we called a time out at the very end of the game. don’t want to second guess why we called that other time out. don’t want to second guess the play calling in the third quarter.
don’t want to second guess why Moniz’s playmaking was not as spiffy in the third quarter. maybe inspiration has something to do with it.

SMU beat Tulsa. with a bunch of newbies.

I don’t want to talk about it anymore. I would just be guessing.

  334. buffoman October 31, 2009 7:17 pm

didnwe have some tackling drills? Could have sorn I read that we went through that.

Well, season is almost over. what the heck. Maybe we can take from this year and do thngs better next year. Ummmm, football stuff like, blocking, tackling, knowing the count so less false starts, being less predictable, blocking, tackling, catching balls that hit your hands. you know, football 101 stuff.

here’s antoher thought. since we can’t really execue the offense quite like JJ, why not do something that may be different. you know, like have a tight end so we can block better when we actually run in the run & shoot.

Oh and before we start next year, be sure that ther is instilled and overall team pride and culture of team winning. Watching Boise, Oregon, Texas, teams with winning ways, you see that this was the initial block that went into the foundation of those teams.

there really needs to be a true exhibition of leadership for this to happen.

  335. A-House October 31, 2009 7:19 pm

    duffer:

had the same thought as 2009 has seen the Warrior’s DEs near extinct in rushing and putting pressure on the QB.

is this intentional? part of a new defensive scheme?

Warrior Dline, for whatever reason, have tremendous difficulty sheding blocks by the Oline in nearly every game. same can be said of the LBs and CBs on running plays. i’m sure that they are taught to do it, but —–

BLIND refs don’t help when they fail to call “holding” penalties by the opponents.

  336. A-House October 31, 2009 7:23 pm

Again, this game turned on five plays, drives me nuts, you put those five plays in our favor and we win. Every game it’s always those darn five plays, with Colt and the Dread heads, those plays went in our favor.

I expect us to keep improving with each game from here on in and next year, we’ll surprise a few people. Too bad we have to go to Boise, their psychadelic carpet is always worth 14 ponts for them.

  345. Da Punchbowl Kid October 31, 2009 8:40 pm

Anybody know if the KS-St. Louis game is on radio somewhere? The listings don’t show it.

    Mr. Weir,

No. Thank you sir for your work with the football progam!

  347. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc October 31, 2009 9:01 pm

The Wahine volleyball match was moved back to 3 pm Hawai`i time. We missed it as well .

If I understand Don Weir’s post #331 correctly, there are two football events in early December in addition to the Wisconsin game on December 5. At first, I assumed that the December 2nd Centennial Celebration Gala on December 2 was also the the Warrior Football banquet; however, now I see that the latter is a separate event.

Given the number of participants and the number of special duty police officers needed for crowd control, it may not be possible to change the time of the parade at this late date. This would be a good time to call upon folks who have some political connections with The Powers That Be including the Waikiki Improvement Association, the Managing Director’s office, and state legislators.

Missed the original post with the information about Na Koa membership. What date did it appear?

Finally, I assume that the gambling interests took a huge dump on today’s game given the spread. Any idea how much of that money is located here in Hawai`i and how much was placed in the the various gaming establishments in Reno and Las Vegas?

If I could have some reasonable, realistic, and accurate figures, I could then offer them in my testimony at the City Council’s Executive Matters and Legal Affairs committee meeting next Wednesday when testifying in opposition to the resolution urging the Legislature to oppose legalized gambling.

re: Gambling Today’s Game for Wussupdoc

Most places in Vegas lacked any line at all. There might have been an opening line of Neveda -25 but that quickly disappeared and the lines were deleted.

Even in Hawaii people found it difficult to find a house with a line to play (for fun). Needless to say lots of people actually SAVED money on this game and lucked out as many would have given the points and taken Neveda.

As too how much money is being “played” with for fun in Hawaii on this particular game is a tough question. I remember reading a “guesstimation” of how much money is gambled in Hawaii on sports and will try and look for the article.

  365. Kekoa October 31, 2009 11:32 pm

Liz ~ Nice double vision pics at Kymry’s.

We had the audio levels bouncing off the meters at da TV-gate. (Koakane out yelled both Ronnie & Rob25).

James (Jesse) was excersing his free speech rights almost as loud as Koakane. I got an all day headache from doze 2 babooshkas! Way too much fun, hardly noticed the team loss. Too busy focusing on all the holding penalties the Refs seem to ignore against us. Denial maybe?

  366. RedZone October 31, 2009 11:37 pm

JJ at SMU went with true freshman quarterback today. He looked better than Mitchell. Maybe there will be a controversy when Mitchell comes back. After SMU got 2 consecutive false starts JJ got so excited he ran on the field and got an unsportsmanship penalty. JJ is sure rushing a lot at SMU. He had 41 attempts this game. And only 20 passing.

  367. Kekoa October 31, 2009 11:37 pm

    ST,

Hope Moniz forgets about the loss. It wasn’t on him. Although it shows his passion to want to win. That only helps us in the future and his development into a good QB.

Tell him not to worry about it, he has 2 more seasons to play and when u are down like this there is only one direction you can go. Things will hopefully get better, and if they dont the bright side is he got to start in Div-1 football when he was technically 3rd/4th string. Gotta just enjoy it.

Good Morning Tsaiko Nation, TOUGH loss as hopefully “WINS” will be due vs. Utah State and New Mexico State. Can not give up as the TEAM is hurting and they need ALL the support that they can get.

Season can be salvage with home wins as I will be in San Jose from Friday until that Sunday afternoon with Rhonda coming up with me. We are invited guests of Dr. Don Weir who I can’t say enough superlatives to describe this GREAT gentlemen of leisure wealth and LOYALTY to the Warrior Football Team

Don is an ex-rainbow warrior and stellar wide out for the bows in the 70’s as I came along in the mid 70’s SO I don’t find it as a coincidence in how we met but DESITINE to meet with our love and athletic background of playing for the rainbow warriors !

You could not ask for a better leader and person in Dr. Weir as he takes the lead role on so many occasions and make it happen in his support to the Warrior Football Team and ALL of UH athletics. His leadership in Na Koa will go in the right direction only because his COMPASSION and LOVE for Hawaii is the focal point for his existence as I urge ALL who may read my post to join him in support to Na Koa as he leads it to a STRONG support progam to our Warrior Football Team. In San Jose I will be staying at the Montgomery Hotel AND if any of you GREAT Tsaiko folks will be attending I will be HONORED to be in your prescence !

Finally to Duff, Dittohead, Warrior Mojo, Green Eyes, Kekoa and Las Vegas I want to say to you gentlemen that “I LOVE YOU ALL” as I will be praying that the misunderstandings and under tones that has happen will subside and that the true GREATNESS that you ALL have will come out as I respect ALL of you SO much as I have had the distinguish pleasure of hugging Las Vegas, Kekoa and would not let go Warrior Mojo when I met him in New Orleans.

DittoHead I enjoy reading your intelligence and duff I find your post’s on the wsn insightful and objective reading kind sir. Green eyes ALL I can say is MAHALO for just sharing your thoughts and LOVE for the Warriors because initially my Hawaii friends that is why WE are all here is our LOVE for our young men who sweats and give out their HEARTS to play for Hawaii, your STATE, your TEAM !

To ERR is human, to FORGIVE is DEVINE Tsaiko Nation as we need to remember that in our daily lives and the people we may have had misunderstandings with as LIFE is not promise and I when my time comes I don’t want to leave you knowing that I have had “ILL FEELINGS” with any one only because I want to see you in heaven and smile with you as we grace the gates together ‘heart to God and hand to man”.

Have a BLESSED Sunday good folks of Aloha State and MAHALO for what you do in embracing our “OHANA” together. Simply The Best, Better Then All The Rest” ! Vaya Con Dios ! Sincerely, RainbowCliff.

rasubegasu, GOSH you have a GREAT name as I hope one day I may meet you as I enjoy your intelligence, humor and WONDERFUL support to our Warrior football team. I always enjoy coming to the Warrior Beat and reading SO many of you good folks in sightful thoughts and comments and YOU rasubegasu is right up there as I appreciate your GREATNESS sir wisdom of Hawaii Folk Lore.

Kazz, Florida Ted and Duffer ALWAYS a pleasure as when I read what you folks say I feel like I am in a unique time with the “GREATEST WRITERS” in the whole wide world as your keen insight to statement, purpose and goals are just one example of OUTSTANDING INTELLIGENCE that you have and show as this writer appreciates your thoughts and opinions as I wanted to share it with you as I don’t get many opportunities to dialogue with my life here in Los Angeles and you good folks in Hawaii or for you Florida Ted in Florida.

Finally Florida Ted I thank GOD for you as I was so sad for your stroke that gave you a difficult time in your life as I was going through a TOUGH situation myself BUT I would join prayer with the other Tsaikos in that your health will get better and gosh darn it did ! I was so HAPPY to find out that you got better !

I have this gift for you that I have had for quite some time as if you may give me an address to send it to you it will express my GRATEFULNESS to your life and your wife who looked after you in your trying need. Thank you always Florida Ted as you are the WISDOM and CALMNESS to the Warrior Beat !

    MONIZ,

You have been a great surprise to true Warrior fans across Hawaii and elsewhere. We see the potential for success. We know you see it also.

    No worries sir!

  376. Kazz (blkberry_storm) November 1, 2009 2:29 am

I’d like to see Coach Tormey with the responsibility of game clock management. Unless I’ve missed something, Coach Tormey is the only coach on our staff that has D1 NCAA head coaching experience.

Also, would like to see more from our “defensive coordinator” Cal Lee. As far as I have obeserved from last year, Cal Lee just seems like the LB coach still only with the DC title. Coach Mack says he (Cal Lee) and himself craft the defensive plan every week. However, still see Coach Mack speaking to the defense as if he’s the titled DC.

I’d like to see Coach Mack allow more room for Cal Lee to make adjustments and calls on defense since that is his titled position on the staff, not sure if it would be better or worse, but overall it may free up Coach Mack to worry and focus more on game time management when necessary and crucial.

    Good morning Tsaikos everywhere.

    Bryant Moniz,

hats off to you! keep working at getting better, young man.
same to your teammates, my Wariors.

you guyz neva stink up da place! 😀
No, you neva! I get hope we headed in the right direction.

Now, the miscuses from the paid decision makers. hmmm….

    Go Warriors.

  379. bighilofan2 November 1, 2009 4:24 am

    I gonna say this…

at least our paid decision makers neva stink up the place yesterday.
they know who amongst them is not clicking, who is not making it at
    the level they expect.

and by clicking, i mean not getting the most out of the particular Warriors
they have been assigned, or by the meshing of the various units. the coaches know what is happening.

I expect the UH Warrior professionals to stand up and be counted.

Hawaii deserves no less… I still get a headache. 😀

  380. bighilofan2 November 1, 2009 4:31 am

Dr. Don Weir, good job on you! good job on the vision from the Na Koa brain trusts.
    btw, some ideas…
next year, how much extra going cost to “allow” students to storm the field like…Oregon, USC, Ohio St., Florida, S. Carolina, Navy, etc?
how would you get Aloha Stadium security mgt. to go take classes from stadium management types at those school stadiums? it just seems like
we could finer tune fan participation so that, win or lose, the stadium is filled, people get hope for a fine season. jmo.

  381. bighilofan2 November 1, 2009 4:34 am

fan fun is not just a function of winning, having a great coach, rah rah.
fan fun starts with fan involvement with the team. the team no come say hi to the fans, no mo fan fun. the team is kept away from the fans, or the fans from the team, no mo fan fun.

top that with a junk record… you get the idea.

no need be one doctor to understand da ramifications. 😀

now, we relying on each udda. 😆

and picking on green eyes. 😆

now i going rely on my udda fave team, da Redskins. 😆

  382. Garret November 1, 2009 4:47 am

    bighilofan2,

The problem with letting people storm the field is that when they did that in 2007 some “fans” stole Warrior equipment like helmets that the team needs to play! UH had to beg for the equipment to be returned because the players needed the custom-fitted equipment to play the next game.

Lots of other schools let their fans storm the field and I never heard of equipment being stolen…

  383. bighilofan2 November 1, 2009 4:49 am

Suck it up, Javonte! You can do it, yes you can!

  384. Kekoa (iPhone) November 1, 2009 4:49 am

Green Eyes ~. Whoa pony horse! You better be careful what you say to me…or “Kokea.” Go throw your tantrum on some other blog.

I don’t recall seeing you step up to put your money where your mouth is in supporting UH sports! I don’t recall seeing you donate time or money to the many worthwhile charities we all contribute to.

Talk is cheap. Show me your true colors. Show me something good. Ours are written in the archives of this blog, and what we’ve done in the community. We don’t hide behind our blog names like you. Only cowards do that.

Any time you want to step out of the shadows and say something to me…you know where to find me. Otherwise, this is the last time I will waste my time addressing your petty little issues.

  385. bighilofan2 November 1, 2009 4:51 am

    Garrett,

burn me once, shame on you. burn me twice, shame on me.

that equipment stealing stuff, yup, get some creep peeps at the stadium. even on the blog. but now we know yesterday is no excuse for
    toning down fan fun. jmo.

  386. Garret November 1, 2009 4:54 am

    bighilofan2,

You might like to know that the Texas football team *always* goes to the fan section in road games and sings their Alma Mater after the game. This is no matter if the team wins or loses. In 24 years that I’ve followed that team, I’ve never heard of the team not showing their appreciation of the fans and they always sing The Eyes of Texas after the game.

You might like to know that after SMU won at Tulsa, the entire team came over to the section where the SMU fans were and celebrated with them. The fans got photos and got to share in the moment, then the players went to the locker room.

It isn’t a very long drive from Dallas to Tulsa, it isn’t like the fans had to fly 3,000 miles to support the team, but the players still showed their appreciation of the support.

  387. Garret November 1, 2009 4:56 am

    bighilofan2,

I guess they could let the fans on the field if the stadium security and HPD was there to arrest anyone trying to steal Warrior equipment. They should publicize that they would be arresting any thieves and maybe that would serve as a deterrent.

  388. bighilofan2 November 1, 2009 4:56 am

yu not going get a big 12th man unless you make the 12th man big.

and that includes effort by the coaches…. AND Aloha Stadium. I’m talking about a plan….

its always easier to just say no. Last nite, when Oregon beat USC, the security coulda kept the fans off the field. Oregon Security coulda taken
lessons from Aloha Security. 😆 betta yet, Army security and Navy security could take lessons from Aloha Security. Condition orange. 😆

  389. Garret November 1, 2009 4:58 am

Wow, Ferd has a disturbing stat in his article.

Opponents have scored on all of UH’s last eight turnovers while the Warriors have scored on but three of their foes’ 14 all season.

  390. Garret November 1, 2009 5:01 am

Here is another stat that is over the time Mac has been head coach at UH:

Hawaii is now 0-11 when trailing at halftime (home and away) vs. Div 1-A teams.

  391. Kekoa (iPhone) November 1, 2009 5:06 am

Good morning big Hilo fan! My apologies for waking you up with my rant, but sometimes…ahhh…you know me…always looking for that silver lining.

Bunch of us cheered our kids on yesterday. Win or lose, we know the extreme effort they make. Lots of mistakes made, but it wasn’t the runaway the naysayers predicted.

Some of your personal favorites like Paipai & Jake
    had their moments.

How about Mr. Weir? I really like his style! I want to get with you on that project Pomai brought up. We can piece it together at the next t-gate.

  392. Garret November 1, 2009 5:18 am

It looks like Nevada’s players were talking before the game about how they needed to beat UH so that Nevada could play in the Hawaii Bowl…I don’t know if they would be a good draw in Hawaii. But aside from UH I don’t think any WAC team would be a good draw.

By beating the Warriors, 31-21, Wolf Pack players figured they could help knock UH out of its hometown Sheraton Hawai’i Bowl slot while enhancing their own chances of playing in the Dec. 24 game at Aloha Stadium.

“There was a lot of talk in the locker room about it,” said running back Vai Taua, who ran for 127 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries.

Taua, a junior, said, “A lot of the seniors went (in 2007) and they’ve been telling the others guys about it.”

  393. bighilofan2 November 1, 2009 5:19 am

Get article by Mike Tsai today.

“As the main guy, he’s [Coach] the one who gets criticized the most, but he’s always been there for us and we’re definitely there for him,” Funaki said. “There is a lot of frustration and discouragement right now, but we’ve come together to try and find solutions. Negativity is like bacteria, and we’re trying not to let it infect us.”

Funaki said the team’s struggles could ultimately be a valuable learning experience, but only if they respond in the right way.

“If we can get through our personal struggles, if we can stay together and find a way to win, we’ll be better because of the experience,” he said. “The will is there, we’re just looking for the way.”

No one is arguing that Coach knows about the xxxs and ooos of football. But he can use help in other areas, where he is struggling. Like getting the players to interact with fans. He definitely can use help in this area. The conduct, walking away to the far away corner after the UNLV, spoke volumes to me. I was shocked.

If he wants a big 12th man, he’s gotta do more to improve fan fun.
Thats not just my opinion, that is a fact. Since he’s decided to be
responsible for fan fun too, he’s got to get the team and fans more involved with each other. ESPECIALLY at Aloha Stadium, our home
field. ALSO at the away games. He better have a Big City Diner meeting with Keith Amemiya. His current marketing strategy and media publicist is not working, no sir it is not!

  395. mctruck November 1, 2009 5:26 am

So, as I normally peruse my Sunday sports section of the Dallas Morning News, looking for college stats, etc., in particular the section under, “Notable Performers” which lists, (passing; rushing; recieving-stats), I noticed that Bryant Moniz, was noted for (374 yards-passing), this past weekend…..GREAT!!!, except this article list his school as, NEVEDA??!!!, instead of HAWAII…go ahead and rub salt in the wound.

By the way, the qb for Oregon,(Masoli), reminds me of our own Moniz, which just makes me think that the future looks very promising with Moniz at the controls.
It was said during the USC/OSU game that, Masoli was at onetime the 4th/5th string qb until injuries, etc., elevated him to the starting qb position. Sorta like Moniz, don’t you think??….and both were transfers to boot.

Before I get forget…..Good morning all!!!

Good morning Kekoa, hope all is well kind sir and that “JUMPER” can still go as that picture you had on the blog of you in your youthful days reminded me of “down town freddie brown” who lit it up just like you.

When I come back to Hawaii I would like to visit Hawaiian Homestead in Kapolei and your sub division Kau’pea and all the 8 communities in the Villages of Kapolei complex. I did my final field work assignment in the palolo playgrounds and had the TIME of my life with the many children who I embrace and harness my teaching skills which has allow me today the sucesses that I have reached at the Al Wooten Center in South Central Los Angeles.

When I reflect back on the ceremony that was given to me I look at HAWAII giving me opportunities of service to the community in which at an early age of 18-22 I went out and made my face available and gave my heart to many of your youthful organizations. Nuanu YMCA, Hawaii Baptist Academy Girls basketball team, Honolulu Boys Club, Easter Seals Society, Kapahulu Park and the WALL of waikiki in which Aso and Deseray taught me to “boogie board” in which I still do today.

Kekoa kind sir MAHALO for your people and the GREATNESS of Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop as I CARE for the underprivelage for the past 17 years in South Central as her legacy to you is my DESIRE for ever. You are the BEST kind sir as I really enjoy your smile and your big “OPU” !

I have a 5x coming your way sir as it is TRULY my honor to know an esteem gentlemen of your leisure and pleasure. My wife Rhonda say’s hello to you and your lovely wife Diana as she really enjoyed Las Vegas as you both were kind to keep her company as I worked the room greeting so many Tsaikos new and old.

Be well Kekoa and “THANK YOU” for being there for me during my trouble time as your thoughts and prayers went a LONG way in bringing me back and for that kind sir I am extremely grateful ! Vaya Con Dios.

Love the game and picked it up in Hawaii just taking a class from Jack Rocker as Ala Moana Tennis Courts know me very well over there as I had a FUN time displaying my skills with the local players. One guy in particular wearing his “SLIPPERS” as I was amazed on how he played balance, lateral movement and moving the ball with accuracy and touch. Fun time in which I will do it AGAIN !

See you good folks later and have a HAPPY Sunday !

On the play where Nevada intercepted Moniz in the end zone, it turns out that Nevada had scouted UH well and prepared for an interception when UH used the play. If UH scores a TD instead, they would have had an excellent chance to win the game…so, good coaching and scouting by Nevada’s coaches.

“Doyle probably picked that pass off about five times this week in practice, and it just was nice to see something go from practice to the field,” Bethea said. “Like I said, they score that touchdown, that’s a big touchdown. It gives them the momentum … that probably set a tone for the defense on finishing the game.”

    Hiya Rainbow Cliff.

    Garret,
that is what I’m talking about. the other team’s scouting. practicing the pick. yikes! what does that statement by Bethea tell you … about ALL the other teams reading our coaches’ minds? even the 50,000 books ain’t gonna help us cuz … cuz… 👿 we no mo readaz … D

    only big city diners. 😆

the other teams no need free online fortune tellers to know what we going do. and good thing we not going play June Jones’ team right now. 😀 we’re not worthy. 😆

yah…. I am one ripe ripe ripe guava. I might not be edible
right now… 😆 not even good enuf fo juicing. 😆

wanna know why? its about fan fun! I ain’t having fun! 😀

started at UNLV right after the game, when the Warriors walked off the field, to the far corner of the field, away from me us
    without saying goodbye. 🙁

be honest with yourself, who we gonna blame that one on? The Warriors? I think not. and it has gone on. and on.

but at least I can smile because there is tomorrow, and maybe da baboozahz will pay attention and learn to run their “coaching routes” right, do their “blocking” right. always get hope, right?

honestly, what the coach needs is some silky voice next to his ear, biting his ear. get the message across. no let the hard head get in the way.

I finished gathering the quotes from the game. I even forced myself to read the Reno Gazette-Journal and the Nevada Appeal to get the quotes they had from the game.

they can no longer bring signs into the stadium.

    Great Morning All!

I suddenly feel just a little closer to wafan and the other mainland Tsaikos…about an hour closer! 😆

Certainly scouting is a part of every team’s game prep but it still comes down to execution in the game. There’s always another option available on every play; it’s a matter of the playmakers making the “right” choices.
I’m fairly certain the ’06 and ’07 offenses ran that same play with better success. I’m equally certain that this QB will get it done differently in the future when they run the same play.

    Have a terrific day erryboddy!

    Utah State is up next.

Alex Gerke returns to Hawaii as Assistant Football Coach, under USU coach G Anderson, who last year was a assistant at Utah. they
lost to Fresno by 4. coming to Honolulu with a 2-6 record.

coach better say something really special soon if I’m gonna fly Honolulu Sat and put my bannah at risk. tell me he’s gonna make a better effort of getting fan participation, that he recognizes the fans and he’s working on a plan, will talk things over with others including stadium officials… say something. no need have a plan just yet, but let me know he’s listening and wants us all in this mud pile together.

and coach, just sewz you nose you’re not alone, Kevin Jakahi in the Hilo Tribune Herald said this morning “BIIF {Big Island Interscholastic Federation – Girls Volleyball} Blanked As Usual.” That “As Usual” is a
    bad play on words.

C’mon Coach, you can do it!

    have a nice day Tsaikos.

    see you this evening.

Since the UH coaches and players are all talking about the red zone, I found a *very* interesting and sad stat.

Before yesterday, Nevada was the worst team in the country (#120 out of 120 D-IA teams) in red zone defense. The INT in the end zone that they got is the ONLY time this season that they stopped a team in the red zone! So, now teams have scored 18 times out of the 19 times they made it into the red zone against Nevada.

Now Nevada is only the #119th team in the country in red zone defense. The only team worse than them? UNLV. UNLV has allowed the opposition to score 30 times out of the 31 times they made it into the red zone. The only team UNLV stopped in the red zone in their 9 games? UH.

So, not only is UH the #119 team in the country, but they have played the two worse red zone defenses and were the only offense those teams could stop in the red zone. UNLV’s season is 75% done so this stat is pretty revealing.

The TD pass to Taylor moved UH from #120 to #119 in the national red zone stats. Rice is now below UH, but Rice scores more points in the red zone on average because they get more TDs. If points are what matters, then in the red zone UH would be worse than UH.

BigHilo things are changing very slowly in the Mac world. Hopefully before this season end we will see the players come to student sections, especially by the UH band and greet the fans and students. Earlier in the season I mentioned that the players weren’t coming to the north end zone with the cheer leaders and rainbow dancers to sing the Alma Mater, not all anyway, and a few said they were but followed up by stating that a lot were in the middle of the field talking and a few were walking back to the tunnel. not good. After the last home game, Slugger mentioned that a few she recognized leaving for the tunnel and she mentioned it to someone at practice to bring it up to those who left early. we need player and coaches commitment to the fans and to their Alma Mater.
