Game Day: LaTech

Sure, Boise State is ranked No. 3 nationally, and in the WAC, UH is predicted to finish several spots below.

But none of that matters at the moment. Today is the start of the WAC season for UH, and everything that happened in the first four (non-conference) games doesn’t count. Praise? Criticism? The real answers will be revealed starting tonight.

* * * * *

Gotta go with what works: UH in black pants tonight for the second week in a row.

* * * * *

A very happy birthday to one of Kauai’s best UH fans, Kymry (if she really does exist), and to Yu Shing Ting, the creator of the modern AAJA-Hawaii-sponsored Media Basketball League (and the reason humbled reporter-players aren’t as critical of the mistakes of real athletes).

Belated birthday wishes to C rM.

  12. Stephen Tsai October 2, 2010 10:26 am

I went to bed at 3. Woke up at 10.

  13. Lava October 2, 2010 10:27 am

It is often said “it is not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game.”

With regard to coaching, it is about whether you win or lose, which likely turns on how you prepare for the game.

I am impressed with how much work the coaches have put in preparing for these games. A bunch of these guys are in their offices working well before 6 am.

I hope we see the dividends tonight on the field.

    Go Warriors!

  14. Steve October 2, 2010 10:28 am

ST, main thing you woke up in time to get ready for THE GAME.

  18. SteveM October 2, 2010 10:41 am

Trivia question: What does KymryKauai and Papajoe2 have in common?

OK, time to start loading the car for the tailgate before I forget something….

  19. Stephen Tsai October 2, 2010 10:41 am

It helps to be in the office before 6 when practice is at 7. But I get the point. The coaches do work hard.

The players also work hard. I hope, though, that they are enjoying the college experience. Football is year round now, and it would be nice if they can enjoy the moments, too.

  20. Lava October 2, 2010 10:45 am

    It’s all about having fun!

  21. Steve October 2, 2010 10:45 am

  44. looouie October 2, 2010 2:26 pm

Is the Oceanic Time Warner feed of decent quality?

  45. Ronnie October 2, 2010 2:34 pm

looouie – The Oceanic feed was fine last week. I try to purchase the game as soon as i can and leave my computer running the feed until the game starts…

  46. Hank October 2, 2010 2:41 pm

    #13…Lava…good to hear that…Go Warriors!

  47. chopsueyboy October 2, 2010 2:47 pm

    Gameday!!! Yeeeaaaaahhh!

  50. expat October 2, 2010 3:50 pm

    looouie,

The Oceanic feed last week was much better than last year.

  51. madeinhawaii October 2, 2010 4:09 pm

BSU > NMSU … 45 zip… with 4 mins left in the third qtr…It’s like practice with live hitting for BSU… geeze…

  52. sportsforfun October 2, 2010 4:14 pm

I wanted to purchase the feed, but I don’t have Oceanic as an internet provider. 🙁

  53. Hank October 2, 2010 4:36 pm

    …Colorado beat Georgia…2007 seems so far away…

  54. Hoohiki October 2, 2010 4:37 pm

How many think BSU will run up the points or make like the Warriors and take a knee with 5 minutes left? Or both?

  55. wafan October 2, 2010 4:41 pm

    csb . . .

The Mongolian Grill is really the Shanghai Restaurant down here in town. Next time you folks are in town visiting come on down! And, definitely bring Nicholas (and his women), too! Might be a lot easier if we met in Federal Way, though.

  56. wafan October 2, 2010 4:42 pm

    oldie . . .

Thank you! I am sure it will be just fine.

  57. wafan October 2, 2010 4:45 pm

    Go Warriors!

Score big time so we can see what Mack will do this week with 5-minutes remaning in the 4th quarter.

  58. NYUH October 2, 2010 4:46 pm

Mongolian Beef, in Chinatown down by the canal if i remember and it’s still there.

Revenge tonight! LA Tech embarrassed us last year on national TV.

No game on TV. Have to stream the video feed and listen to Bobby and Robert.

  59. wafan October 2, 2010 4:47 pm

Nice comeback by the Ducks against the trees.

  60. wafan October 2, 2010 4:49 pm

The Warriors remember the embarrassment last year when the dogs showed no mercy even as some of the Warriors were worried about family and friends in Samoa.

Tonight, the ‘dogs will experience their own earthquake as the Warriors rock their world.

  61. Committed Road Warrior October 2, 2010 4:53 pm

Was able to order the Oceanic feed for tonight’s game. Somehow wasn’t able to last week.

I’m a scratch for next week’s game in Fresno…not gonna be able to make it out there.

    59-0 Boise over NMSU.

SJSU falls to UC Davis, 14-13.

  62. oldie October 2, 2010 4:54 pm

    wafan,

Glad it got to you. KFVE just makes it hard. Can’t complain though.

Here at the stadium. Very breezy.

    Go Warriors!

  63. sportsforfun October 2, 2010 4:55 pm

    #58

NYUH, where are you streaming the game from?

  64. madeinhawaii October 2, 2010 4:56 pm

    14-14…. UNLV – NEVADA 2nd qtr

  65. NYUH October 2, 2010 4:57 pm

oldie: caught the end of that game. was rooting for Dooley but am I right in thinking he took off without congratulating the other coach?

  66. This is a really good read for me, Must admit that you are one of the best bloggers I ever saw. Thanks for posting this informative article.

  67. oldie October 2, 2010 5:02 pm

    NYUH,

    Didn’t see that about Dooley.

If the UH coaches did what LSU’s coaches did at the end of the game and lost, this blog would have been going on and on about the coaching.

LSU was very lucky to pull out that game. Always good to have luck on your side.

  68. Hank October 2, 2010 5:02 pm

…it’s time for USC’s Offensive Line to take over the game…

  69. Hank October 2, 2010 5:06 pm

…i’m looking for our Defense to have a BIG GAME…LT is trying to learn the spread offense but are in their first year and starting their third new quarterback of the season…

…our Defense practices against the NATIONS NO.1 PASSING OFFENSE all year…

…we should be ready for what LT has to bring…

  70. oldie October 2, 2010 5:06 pm

Wow! Able to get in at the stadium on the AT&T network.

Did they improve service (doubtful). Probably cause no more all the USC fan with their smartphones.

Weather looks good. Hope it holds up.

  71. CoolEthan October 2, 2010 5:12 pm

    Right on Wafan>>>#60

  72. Matt October 2, 2010 5:13 pm

  73. Hank October 2, 2010 5:15 pm

….Warrior fans are always last minute kine…GO WARRIORS!

  74. madeinhawaii October 2, 2010 5:16 pm

    NEVADA gets two unanswered TDs for a 14pt lead… 28-14… 31 secs… UNLV on the Nevada’s 40… 2nd down..

  76. wafan October 2, 2010 5:26 pm

  94. wafan October 2, 2010 6:03 pm

Nice to see the stadium is not playing those irritating and disgustinly obnoxious commercials while the Warrior band is playing Co-Ed.

That or they actually turned it down so as not to cause hearing damage to the fans in attendance.

  95. Matt October 2, 2010 6:03 pm

    DEFENSE!!!

  96. Matt October 2, 2010 6:04 pm

  114. duffer October 2, 2010 6:19 pm

  123. sportsforfun October 2, 2010 6:24 pm

Awright!! Keep pouring it on Warriors!!

  124. Warrior Expat October 2, 2010 6:24 pm

Awesome lead, but let’s not get complacent. I seem to remember a 21-0 lead shrinking dramatically a few weeks ago. Keep the pressure on!

  125. 702WarriorFan October 2, 2010 6:24 pm

Hope Greg Alexander is on the field to enjoy the game tonight.

No need to take the knee tonight – just let the players get their experience under the light.

    Go Warriors!

  126. wafan October 2, 2010 6:24 pm

    Monis is 14 of 21.

  127. wafan October 2, 2010 6:25 pm

    Oops.

    Moniz

  128. Matt October 2, 2010 6:25 pm

Need to keep the foot on the gas pedal. Don’t let up unless we’re up by 60 in the 4th quarter.

  129. moocher October 2, 2010 6:26 pm

any kind soul out there would not mind sharing their stream for the hawaii if you have any?

  130. Matt October 2, 2010 6:26 pm

    INT by Silva again.

  131. wafan October 2, 2010 6:27 pm

Cool. LA Tech is having their own earthquake.

    Rock their world!!!

  132. wafan October 2, 2010 6:28 pm

    moocher . . .

  133. duffer October 2, 2010 6:29 pm

Why does the game clock still run when the runner steps out of bounds?

  134. moocher October 2, 2010 6:31 pm

radio…ack, well, thats what you get you work out of country- no college, no nfl except for internet or radio-i need to get back home to the islands

  135. Warrior Expat October 2, 2010 6:35 pm

    I don’t like this momentum shift…

  136. Matt October 2, 2010 6:35 pm

New QB for LA Tech is moving the ball.

  137. wafan October 2, 2010 6:38 pm

    Come on D!!!

  138. Matt October 2, 2010 6:40 pm

How hard is it to rule incomplete pass.

  139. UHfan808 October 2, 2010 6:43 pm

Kekauka just said the officials should be penalized for delay of game hehehe

Hi wafan! Hi Steve! uh oh, did I miss anyone? Hi Ronnie from last week!

  140. wafan October 2, 2010 6:45 pm

Are the refs WACing the Warriors?

How can there be a penalty on a play that has ended?

    Can someone explain?

  141. Matt October 2, 2010 6:45 pm

    TD LA Tech.

  142. wafan October 2, 2010 6:46 pm

    Geez. Tech TD.

Still cannot wrap up and take down.

  143. Matt October 2, 2010 6:46 pm

wafan, if the refs were WACing anyone, it would be LA Tech since the penalty was against them. 24-7 Warriors.

  144. wafan October 2, 2010 6:47 pm

    UHFan808 . . .

You are not cheering enough. Get our D fired up!!!

  145. Steve October 2, 2010 6:47 pm

Wafan, also should there not be time put back on the clock if the play ended with the incomplete pass.

  146. Matt October 2, 2010 6:47 pm

They scored that TD on a 4th and 6. Still not getting much pressure on the QB. LA Tech should have started this guy. He’s playing way better than that other QB they used.

  147. Ronnie October 2, 2010 6:47 pm

    Hi UHfan808!!!

  148. Warrior Expat October 2, 2010 6:48 pm

We can’t lose focus. The team’s intensity seems to be down. Gotta step it back up!

  149. wafan October 2, 2010 6:50 pm

    Matt . . .

HA! That is correct. The ‘dogs not the Warriors.

Still do not understand the penalty, though.

  150. Steve October 2, 2010 6:51 pm

Wafan, these referees are starting to become a joke, they do not know what they are throwing the flags for.

  151. Ronnie October 2, 2010 6:52 pm

    Wow! The officials are WAC’d.

  152. Matt October 2, 2010 6:52 pm

Where did they get this officiating crew from, Pop Warner?

  153. UHfan808 October 2, 2010 6:52 pm

    Nice run in them :boo:

    Let’s go Warriors!!! cheeeehooo!!!

Don’t let up on them doggs, no matter what!!! Put in our 3rds, 4ths, 5ths, lol, etc to give opportunity for valuable game experience, pls!

    GO WARRIORS!!!

Steve- Miss the blog too and hope to post more often! Just gotta get a more efficient phone. (Sprint- hurry call me back w/my waitlist 4G, pls! annodah grrr)

  154. wafan October 2, 2010 6:53 pm

Did the refs just make a mistake — again?

  155. wafan October 2, 2010 6:54 pm

    Focus!!!

  156. wafan October 2, 2010 6:56 pm

Do they still use the mixed bag of refs from the various conferences?

  157. Matt October 2, 2010 6:56 pm

Papa Leahey needs to turn the reins over to Kanoa. Way too many mistakes.

  158. Matt October 2, 2010 6:57 pm

wafan, pretty sure these are WAC refs. I think we pulled out of that agreement where we shared refs.

  159. Matt October 2, 2010 6:58 pm

Fumble by Alex Green inside the 20.

  160. Ronnie October 2, 2010 6:58 pm

    arrggg

  161. wafan October 2, 2010 6:59 pm

If they do, they need to shake the bag better to send the crazy refs elsewhere.

    Come on Warriors!!!

    Matt . . .

Why the Pop Warner insult? HA!

  162. Matt October 2, 2010 7:01 pm

wafan, my apologies to Pop Warner. These refs shouldn’t even get a job at Foot Locker.

  163. Committed Road Warrior October 2, 2010 7:01 pm

    UHfan808 #153:

I just received my Evo 4G phone earlier this week. I’m liking it!!!

I would order the 4G phone online, instead of waitlisting at your local Sprint Store. That’s what I did…got mine in 2 days, instead of waiting a couple weeks if I went on the waitlist at my nearby Sprint Store.

  164. wafan October 2, 2010 7:01 pm

Papa making a many errors as the refs?

At least he has a viable reason. What excuse do the refs have?

  165. NYUH October 2, 2010 7:02 pm

Yes, unlike last week when you had to respect CSU for coming to play, its nice to just pound LA tech.

    Colorado beat Georgia.

  166. Steve October 2, 2010 7:02 pm

Warriors need to regroup at halftime and come out strong in the 3rd.

  167. Steve October 2, 2010 7:03 pm

Doesn’t anyone use a PC anymore to blog.

  168. wafan October 2, 2010 7:05 pm

Me! Cannot afford those fancy phones and plans.

  169. madeinhawaii October 2, 2010 7:07 pm

I carry my phone to get calls, make calls and to check the time… that’s it. Other than that… I don’t want to use the phone cause then I’d have to put on my reading glasses..

  170. madeinhawaii October 2, 2010 7:07 pm

    Which I can never find…

  171. madeinhawaii October 2, 2010 7:08 pm

    All six of them.

Warriors gettting way too sloppy.. the sense of urgency isn’t there and this isn’t going to help them … they should play to build a margin big enough to allow the second and third team some playing time.

  172. Kazz blogging via DROID X October 2, 2010 7:10 pm

I dont like how this game this going….

    Reeks of SJSU 2008…

  173. Kazz blogging via DROID X October 2, 2010 7:12 pm

    CRW,

Welcome to the open-source world of the Android™ OS!!!!

  174. wafan October 2, 2010 7:13 pm

    mih . . .

    #171

    Agreed.

  175. madeinhawaii October 2, 2010 7:14 pm

Can’t believe that SJSU lost to UC Davis… not a good sign for their program.

  176. Matt October 2, 2010 7:16 pm

Papa has made at least as many mistakes as the refs. He thinks Salas is so good, that he plays QB too. Salas has been the QB on at least 3 plays so far, according to Papa. I know the numbers are hard to read, but Salas is not taking snaps behind center anytime soon. Papa must have taken a trip to Paris recently too. He tries to turn a lot of the names French.

Momentum seemed to shift toward LA Tech late in the first half. We can’t afford to come out slow again in the second half. We need to squash LA Tech’s hopes quickly and put this game away.

  177. Hank October 2, 2010 7:17 pm

….we cannot sit back on this lead in the second half and hope to cruise to victory…the third quarter has been a place of pain all season except last week (which doesn’t count)…

….we need more PRESSURE on Jenkins…or he is going to bring them back into this game…GO WARRIORS!

  178. wafan October 2, 2010 7:17 pm

    Or UC-Davis’ future appears brighter.

  179. Matt October 2, 2010 7:21 pm

UC Davis was 1-3 against Cal and 3 FCS Teams before beating SJSU.

  180. how to make 1000g fast October 2, 2010 7:24 pm

I can’t but agree.I always wanted to write in my site something like that but I guess you’r faster.

  181. Hank October 2, 2010 7:25 pm

    …i hate a three man rush….what’s up?…like i said before…if we don’t put pressure on him..it’s bad.

  182. Hank October 2, 2010 7:25 pm

…Can someone explain to me why we went to a three man rush?…

  183. Steve October 2, 2010 7:26 pm

Warriors need to get back to their base 4-3 defense, they are making it way to easy for LA Tech with only a 3 man rush.

  184. Matt October 2, 2010 7:26 pm

We can’t get any pressure on the QB, yet we are using a three man d-line right now.

  185. Hank October 2, 2010 7:27 pm

…we may as well not rush anyone…same thing. Keep eleven back.

  186. wafan October 2, 2010 7:27 pm

    Need to do some thing!

  187. wafan October 2, 2010 7:28 pm

What is it with the 3rd qtr?

  188. Matt October 2, 2010 7:28 pm

    Come on DEFENSE.

  189. Shoko October 2, 2010 7:28 pm

    Egads, the infamous third quarter!

  190. Hank October 2, 2010 7:29 pm

…toooo easy…hope somebody asks Aranda on Monday about the “prevent defense” to start the second half….

  191. wafan October 2, 2010 7:29 pm

    Gosh. Too easy.

  192. Matt October 2, 2010 7:29 pm

    TD LA Tech. Argh

  193. duffer October 2, 2010 7:29 pm

Making this waaay to easy for La Tech

  194. Shoko October 2, 2010 7:30 pm

Oh, howzit people. Just back home.

  195. madeinhawaii October 2, 2010 7:30 pm

Suddenly, just like that, La Tech makes it a game again… yikes.

  196. Steve October 2, 2010 7:30 pm

Warriors need to take that 3-4 defense, put it in a trash can, give it to the Air Force, and have them dump it somewhere in the middle of Pacific Ocean, never to be seen again.

  197. Hank October 2, 2010 7:31 pm

    #196…Steve…+1…

  198. madeinhawaii October 2, 2010 7:31 pm

jeeze.. maybe UH should start the second team on defense in the third qtr.

  199. wafan October 2, 2010 7:32 pm

    2nd half.

Time for some strong after shocks to rock the ‘dogs’ world!

    Go Warriors!!!

  200. wafan October 2, 2010 7:32 pm

    200

  201. Hank October 2, 2010 7:34 pm

nice to see Dustin in the game!

  202. Matt October 2, 2010 7:34 pm

5 wides. A new wrinkle by Rolo?

  203. Hank October 2, 2010 7:35 pm

    Greg Salas!

  204. wafan October 2, 2010 7:35 pm

Was wondering about this. Read an article where the Warrior coaches feel it is a victory when the opposing team gets the ball inside the 25 on a kickoff.

If that is the case, why not put it in the endzone so the coaches feel victorious EVERY kickoff?

    Duh.

  205. wafan October 2, 2010 7:36 pm

    TD!!!!!

  206. Matt October 2, 2010 7:36 pm

    Salas = BEAST!!! TD Salas.

  207. madeinhawaii October 2, 2010 7:38 pm

Alright.. Offense came back fired up! …. Now hopefully the Defense was embarrassed enough to wake up and get back in there and make something happen.

  208. Shoko October 2, 2010 7:39 pm

    MIH #175,

I know, when I saw that I started to wonder who is going to finish at the bottom of the WAC, SJSU or NMSU.

  209. Ronnie October 2, 2010 7:39 pm

If we get a TD everytime we have the ball, we’ll win. 😉

  210. Matt October 2, 2010 7:40 pm

Next time we win the toss, we should defer to the second half. That way we can have the offense wake our team up after halftime.

  211. Hank October 2, 2010 7:40 pm

…Thank you – we are back in our base 4-3…

  212. wafan October 2, 2010 7:41 pm

    Whoo-hoo!

  213. madeinhawaii October 2, 2010 7:42 pm

    ARgh… special teams… …

  214. Matt October 2, 2010 7:42 pm

Good stop D. Now let’s get another TD.

  215. wafan October 2, 2010 7:42 pm

HA! RK’s dog imitation was hilarious.

  216. wafan October 2, 2010 7:43 pm

    mih . . .

    ?

  217. wafan October 2, 2010 7:46 pm

    Dang!

  218. Shoko October 2, 2010 7:46 pm

    Pilares! My man!

  219. Matt October 2, 2010 7:47 pm

Pilares fumble and recovery. He had possession for sure. He took two steps.

  220. Warrior Expat October 2, 2010 7:48 pm

Why does Oceanic coverage zoom so far in? Why can’t they do a wider angle? The cameraman gets juked by the play action and we can’t see the play.

  221. wafan October 2, 2010 7:48 pm

    Where is the option?!?!

  222. Shoko October 2, 2010 7:49 pm

    Redzone problems once again. *sigh*

  223. Matt October 2, 2010 7:50 pm

    Enos FG. 34-14.

  224. wafan October 2, 2010 7:50 pm

Hey, it is better than no score.

  225. Shoko October 2, 2010 7:52 pm

    Indeed Wafan,

Look on the brightside. The Warriors are covering the spread. 🙂

  226. Ronnie October 2, 2010 7:52 pm

    wafan:

    October 2nd, 2010 at 7:50 pm

Hey, it is better than no score.

Which is what la-la tech got on their last possession. 😀

  227. wafan October 2, 2010 7:53 pm

    Pooch kick?

    Seriously?

Is this a test for our D???

  228. wafan October 2, 2010 7:55 pm

Yep, this is a D test.

  229. Warrior Expat October 2, 2010 7:55 pm

And they keep cutting to the plays late. Ok, I’m done with my Oceanic ranting. Ugh.

  230. wafan October 2, 2010 7:57 pm

    And the D is struggling.

    Swat the ‘dogs.

Where is the rolled up newspaper?

  231. Ronnie October 2, 2010 7:59 pm

Now it is time for the offense to respond!

  232. wafan October 2, 2010 7:59 pm

‘Dogs scored 18 points in the 2nd half so far this season.

    They have scored 14 already.

    Come on D!!!

  233. madeinhawaii October 2, 2010 8:00 pm

The Defense is NOT living up to expectations. They might escape the bullet tonight, but next week AT Fresno? Oy..vey!

  234. wafan October 2, 2010 8:00 pm

    Warriors need to score!

  235. wafan October 2, 2010 8:05 pm

    Viriliter Age!!

  236. Matt October 2, 2010 8:05 pm

Moniz is getting smacked around with these 5 wides.

  237. wafan October 2, 2010 8:06 pm

    What is the attendance?

    Student section filled?

  238. wafan October 2, 2010 8:09 pm

    Silly penalty.

  239. duffer October 2, 2010 8:09 pm

    Five holding calls

  240. wafan October 2, 2010 8:09 pm

    Gosh, Green!

  241. Matt October 2, 2010 8:10 pm

    Fumble by AG. Not good.

  242. madeinhawaii October 2, 2010 8:11 pm

Dang.. that’s a momentum changer …. Green gotta take care of the ball or he will start getting the boos from the home fans…

  243. wafan October 2, 2010 8:12 pm

Davis needs to learn to tackle?

  244. wafan October 2, 2010 8:12 pm

    INT!

  245. Matt October 2, 2010 8:13 pm

    INT!!! yeah baby.

  246. hawnstln October 2, 2010 8:15 pm

Jus got back from a party. What is going on?

  247. Matt October 2, 2010 8:16 pm

Pilares about to break Salas’ reception record.

  248. NYUH October 2, 2010 8:17 pm

After a good first half, the streaming is awful as we go into the 4th.

  249. Matt October 2, 2010 8:17 pm

hawnstln, 34-21 UH. Warriors driving with 10:00 left.

  250. Matt October 2, 2010 8:18 pm

The streaming is still good for me (as I knock on wood).

  251. Steve October 2, 2010 8:18 pm

    hawnstln: UH 34 LT 21 4QTR

  252. madeinhawaii October 2, 2010 8:20 pm

I think our Defense is just young… it’s OJT for them.

  253. Shoko October 2, 2010 8:21 pm

    Yea baby! Salas!

  254. wafan October 2, 2010 8:21 pm

    mih . . .

Seems to be OJT for the past two years.

  255. Matt October 2, 2010 8:21 pm

    Salas TD again.

  256. wafan October 2, 2010 8:21 pm

    Whoo-hoo!

    Go Warriors!!!

  257. Shoko October 2, 2010 8:21 pm

I think Pilares will will lead in receiving yards after this game.

  258. duffer October 2, 2010 8:21 pm

    Unreal Greg Salas

  259. madeinhawaii October 2, 2010 8:23 pm

    Wafan…

At least the Offense are now playing like seasoned vets…

The D had too many injuries last season and too many graduates… What do we have now? Three, maybe four seniors starting on D?

  260. wafan October 2, 2010 8:24 pm

    Must be another D test.

  261. hawnstln October 2, 2010 8:24 pm

is Moniz that GOOD or is LATech that bad. Looks like our d is suspect again.

  262. duffer October 2, 2010 8:25 pm

    What’s up on the kickoffs?

  263. Hank October 2, 2010 8:26 pm

…yeah…what’s up with these poooch kickoffs?

  264. Ronnie October 2, 2010 8:26 pm

What can a kicker do to strengthen his leg? Kick with weights – like batters take practice swings with weights?

  265. curveball October 2, 2010 8:26 pm

Hey guys I am on the mainland so please keep me updated…………..

  266. madeinhawaii October 2, 2010 8:27 pm

Wow… despite that second half stall….

Moniz with 557 total yards so far…

    Pilares with well over 200

    Salas with about 189

  267. wafan October 2, 2010 8:27 pm

    duffer . . .

    See my 204. Same thing.

  268. Hank October 2, 2010 8:27 pm

We need to blitz…they are going to pass…three scores down with 6-minutes…

  269. Hank October 2, 2010 8:27 pm

…i hate tackling with wrapping up the guy….

  270. Hank October 2, 2010 8:28 pm

    oooppss…without wrapping up…

  271. wafan October 2, 2010 8:28 pm

Anyone know the record for most yards in a game?

  272. Hank October 2, 2010 8:29 pm

…let’s just admit to the fact that we cannot get enough pressure with four guys…

  273. duffer October 2, 2010 8:32 pm

    Good stop DDDDDD

  274. wafan October 2, 2010 8:33 pm

    Go Kealoha!!!

    Viriliter Age!

    A new record at UH!!!

  275. Matt October 2, 2010 8:35 pm

wafan, if you mean receiving yards. It’s 308 by Jason Rivers against Arizona State in the HI bowl. Brennan threw for 559 in that same game.

  276. Matt October 2, 2010 8:36 pm

Moniz is creeping up on Colt’s record.

  277. wafan October 2, 2010 8:36 pm

    Matt . . .

Thanks! Looks like Moniz just broke that record and Pilares continues to build on his new record, too.

  278. Matt October 2, 2010 8:36 pm

Pilares is trying for 20 catches.

  279. wafan October 2, 2010 8:37 pm

    Bravo Salas and Pilares!!!

    Both over 200 yards.

    Wow!

  280. Hank October 2, 2010 8:38 pm

    …good WIN…and that’s what it’s all about…GO WARRIORS!

  281. wafan October 2, 2010 8:38 pm

Looks like the earthquake hit the ‘dogs tonight.

  282. wafan October 2, 2010 8:39 pm

    Bravissimo, Warriors!!!

  283. Matt October 2, 2010 8:39 pm

Moniz doesn’t have the record. He is just short.

  284. Steve October 2, 2010 8:39 pm

    Yep, wafan, an 8.5

  285. curious george October 2, 2010 8:39 pm

    WOO HOO!!!

    Warriors came 2 play.

    good job boyz!!!

    Da oddah Bulldogs up next.

  287. Warrior Expat October 2, 2010 8:40 pm

    GO WARRIORS!

  288. Shoko October 2, 2010 8:41 pm

Good job, Pilares, Salas and the rest of the Warriors. Be proud and carry the momentum into the Fresno Game! I’ll be there to cheer you on!

  289. curious george October 2, 2010 8:42 pm

    btw, who won da conteest?

    …..hehehehe.

  290. wafan October 2, 2010 8:44 pm

    Shucks. Salas 3 yards short.

Next week do it at Fresno and housebreak the ‘dogs.

  291. wafan October 2, 2010 8:45 pm

    Olddiver, I think.

  292. Ronnie October 2, 2010 8:45 pm

Wow! 41-20. Good job curious george…

  293. Shoko October 2, 2010 8:47 pm

    Wafan,

Still Salas should jump up to the third spot in leading receptions after tonights performance. Thats still good, right? Optimism? 😉 Or at least in the running for the WAC POW!

  294. wafan October 2, 2010 8:48 pm

    Oops. curious george.

    Congratulations!!!

The game sweat is a bonus.

    HA!

  295. Steve October 2, 2010 8:49 pm

Who is going to Genji to watch the Fresno game?

  296. wafan October 2, 2010 8:51 pm

    Shoko . . .

    Absolutely!

Just thought both went 200+ tonight.

  297. wafan October 2, 2010 8:53 pm

    Pomai . . .

    38 21. Us.

‘Dogs finally get housebroken and learn to go potty in the MWC.

  298. Shoko October 2, 2010 8:53 pm

Dang, meant Pilares in post #293. Anyway, good job to all the players. Defesnse still needs some work.

  299. curious george October 2, 2010 8:53 pm

    thanks Ronnie!

    r u goin to fresneck?

    Represent for all da Tsaikos.

    Is it next Saturday, yet?

nah, lets give da boyz some time to celebrate the nice victory.

  300. Shoko October 2, 2010 8:54 pm

    Wafan,

    Agreed!! Both played great!!!!

  301. Ronnie October 2, 2010 8:57 pm

curious george – yep, I’ll be at fresneck next week. I can’t wait to watch our boys beat the puppies at home again!!

  302. curious george October 2, 2010 8:59 pm

    thanks wasfan!

i remember i made my prediction right after you did last Saturday night. Then i had to tell Pomai that both of our guesses were not noted. Did you remember that?

  303. madeinhawaii October 2, 2010 8:59 pm

    Moniz 42/58, 532 yds, 4TD

    Salas 10/197, 2 TD

Pilares 18/217, 217 yds, 2 TD, UH reception record

    Mana Silva 2 ints!

    Paredes with 9 tackles… (Manti T’eo had 10 today)

  304. curious george October 2, 2010 9:00 pm

    Auryte Roonie!

this could be the last dance with them.

  305. madeinhawaii October 2, 2010 9:01 pm

    LOL… 5-receiver, empty set…. the Hawaii 5-0 package!

  306. wafan October 2, 2010 9:01 pm

  312. Matt October 2, 2010 9:10 pm

Moniz did get the most total yards gained in a game UH record with 581. Previous record was 574 by Colt.

    27,001?

    Seriously? Is that all?

  320. madeinhawaii October 2, 2010 9:25 pm

The real positive I take out of this game is knowing that when the Warriors are focused… they are scary good…

  321. Steve October 2, 2010 9:27 pm

mih, what is scary is that the offense can get better, that is really scary.

  322. madeinhawaii October 2, 2010 9:30 pm

    Caller made a good point… We lost the second half… 17-18… hmmm…

  323. TChahng [DroidX] October 2, 2010 9:32 pm

Clam chowder at the cabana all pau. :/

  324. Steve October 2, 2010 9:35 pm

mih, #322, that is something the Warriors need to still work on, before it comes back to bite us again.

  325. madeinhawaii October 2, 2010 9:37 pm

Warriors have to take a hard look at all the errors… not the good plays that La Tech pulled.. but the errors that Hawaii made… 10 players on special teams … personal fouls… etc… figure out how to fix them fast.. THEN.. focus on all the Good stuff before the next game.

  326. Hawaiianbod October 2, 2010 9:40 pm

    good win Warriors!

celebrate tonight, but starting tomorrow i’ts all about the redneck puppies.

    TChahng –

glad you stopped by yhr tailgate and met many of the Tsaikos for the first time.

    congrads curous george!

  327. madeinhawaii October 2, 2010 9:41 pm

Jeeze.. Warriors had possession 17 1/2 minutes more than La Tech… How often does that happen?

  330. madeinhawaii October 2, 2010 9:52 pm

OOps I stand corrected…. Hawaii did win the battle in the second half…

    24-7 first half

    17-14 second half

    21:13 – 38:47 time of possession…

  331. Hawaiianbod October 2, 2010 10:12 pm

    TChahng

nah, no worries, you’re family, too.

  332. papajoe2 October 2, 2010 10:17 pm

2nd half we may have won the battle, but lost 3rd qtr again.

  333. d1島 October 2, 2010 10:19 pm

    Good win.

Still room to improve….which (as someone else mentioned earlier) is kinda scary!

  334. papajoe2 October 2, 2010 10:21 pm

Improvement on “D” but some guys still need to learn how to tackle. No names but #8, #2, nah, nah, nah. Could have had some great sacks but missed the QB. Players need to stop looking at their eyes and look at their crotch. A man must follow his crotch. See the crotch, the body is there.

  335. d1島 October 2, 2010 10:22 pm

    papajoe2,

    Azzokay…Hawaii was still 3 and 1 tonight.

  336. papajoe2 October 2, 2010 10:25 pm

Ever notice how almost all the time, the UH “D” linemen never raise their hands when the QB is about to throw a pass? No pressure, clear vision, makes the QB look good.

  337. d1島 October 2, 2010 10:27 pm

    Pomai,

    …but, the usual please.

  338. madeinhawaii October 2, 2010 10:28 pm

It’s not always the total yards.. but how good a field position you start at, too.

Ole Miss 42, Kentucky 35: At Oxford, Miss., quarterback Jeremiah Masoli threw for three touchdowns and rushed for another.

Masoli, who helped the Rebels take advantage of good field position throughout the game, accounted for his four touchdowns despite otherwise pedestrian stats. He completed 9 of 17 passes for 90 yards and rushed for 43 yards.

Nice to see that Colorado won tonight, too.

Colorado handed the Bulldogs their fourth straight loss 29-27 Saturday night.

  343. madeinhawaii October 2, 2010 10:31 pm

Defense just need to figure out what they are going to do against the no-huddle offenses, and Special team gotta pay attention when it’s their time to play.

  344. papajoe2 October 2, 2010 10:31 pm

mih #339, we better change the subject or we going wake up Koa Mahu.

  345. madeinhawaii October 2, 2010 10:33 pm

    From sportshawaii…

The Alabama QB is the son of former UH lineman Greg McElroy, Sr (’77-’78).

  346. papajoe2 October 2, 2010 10:39 pm

#335 d1, record? 3-2. Good win tonight though. Wasn’t Pilares and Salas outrageous? The ESPN broadcaster who took both of them on his fantasy team must be ecstatic. Eh, how bout dat fancy words? Public skuuls get hope.

  347. tommui October 2, 2010 10:41 pm

When Jason Elam was doing the field goals and PAT, didn’t someone else take over the kick off/punting duties in his junior/senior year? I recall that he said that the technique of PATs and FGs was very different from kickoff/punting.

  348. papajoe2 October 2, 2010 10:48 pm

tommui, I think some one else did do the punting because the same muscles were used in different ways. Not sure about kickoffs though.

Anybody hear Dick Tomey rip whoever says that teams like Boise State, TCU etc., doesn’t deserve to be ranked that high. Sounded like he was genuinely pissed off. Said the BCS teams don’t want anybody messing with their system or something like that.

  349. Koa-mahu October 2, 2010 10:49 pm

  351. Kazz (click to support UH softball) October 2, 2010 10:52 pm

For people still stuck on the June Jones days… be glad because unless something gets fixed on defense, looks like we will just have to outscore our opponents to gain victories.

A lot of teams will rely on the no-huddle to just march up the field against us and eat clock to keep Moniz and Co. off the field unless some changes are made.

  352. TYaiea October 2, 2010 10:53 pm

Was kicker Enos instructed to make those short kickoffs? Or is it that he can’t kickoff into the deep endzone? I think this short kickoffs are going to really hurt us against good returners. Or do we have a kicker that can kick further than Enos? But, it was still a good game…Imua NaKoa!!!!!

  353. Pcwarrior October 2, 2010 10:58 pm

Enjoyed the game tonight… Want to thank a friend and corporate tickets behind the players (my wife and I enjoyed them)… Offense looked great, just need to hang on to the rock.( I didn’t want to wake KM ). Defense came out a littl flat after half but got it going… All in all a great win!!! Enjoy being one notch above LT. Put it all together next week…. Kick the BULL@&!€ out of the bulldogs again!!!

  354. Kazz (click to support UH softball) October 2, 2010 10:58 pm

    TYaiea,

LaTech’s return guy or guys are pretty good when given a long field. A lot of teams have kicked away from them.

I haven’t seen Enos kick too many balls into the endzone so I ASSUME shorter/higher kicks would take away Tech’s space back there.

    That just my guess.

Towards the North end zone, where I sit, Enos’ balls have been short, it seems when kicking to the South end zone they have more OOMPH. But it was a little more on the windy side in the Northern portion of the stadium tonight.

  355. Kazz (click to support UH softball) October 2, 2010 11:00 pm

    papajoe2,

No apologies. Here, as long as we don’t personally trash student athletes it’s all good.

But yes tackling needs to be found before it can even be fixed.

  356. Koa-mahu October 2, 2010 11:01 pm

eh pcwarrior, i’m ALWAYS up. if you know what i mean.

  357. Pcwarrior October 2, 2010 11:02 pm

As far as the kicking game, it looked like design to kick short or to the corners to try to limit Livas’ return yards.. But when you have to kick off so many times, there’s bound to be a break down.

I sat next to a family of four who were from Sydney, Australia. The Dad said that Austin Hansen is from a town 5 miles north of where he’s from. He read an article in their local paper about Austin. So, since they were planning a trip to HNL, they decided to come to the game tonight and root for the Warriors. He explained some of the differences btwn American football & Australian. Told him about Alex.

Had a great time and I arrived at my family party after the game with a win! No sour faces for this Aunty.

Keep focusing on your blog. I love how we can all express our feelings. This is an extremely nice blog here 🙂

  364. Michigan Warrior October 3, 2010 2:56 am

Couple of things I want to mention.

First off, despite not clicking like they should, hats off to our offense on getting it done!

Too bad our offense made the majority of the penalties last night. In our next couple of games, those stupid penalties could mean the difference between winning and losing.

Secondly, when Jenkins entered the game in the second quarter, it seemed like our defense went to sleep. We gave up conversions and stopped tackling in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.

Gotta play with that intensity throughout the whole game. At times, it seems like we get this “we got this game in the bag” attitude, and stop playing with fire. We should’ve shut them out!

Third, I think it was smart of LaTech to rush to the line of scrimmage after every offensive play, even though they all had to turn their heads to get the next play from the sidelines.

Even though they didn’t have the play called, they pretty much kept us from substituting. We need an answer for that.

Finally, can we audition everyone and please find someone who can kick that ball through the endzone? We keep giving up way too many yards on kickoffs, especially.

Anyways, great to get this win under our belt. Got some things to address, but we’re moving in the right direction. When we play these defectors, we better bring our A-game. We need the mentality that we are going to crush them, no matter what.

  365. wafan October 3, 2010 3:56 am

    A good win last night.

Coaches and players need to focus on the ‘dogs. I hope they take the rolled up newspaper!

  367. Michigan Warrior October 3, 2010 4:26 am

In the article by Brian McInnis, “Paredes, Silva make key plays”, here’s the last paragraph:

“There were adjustments being made, but to be honest with you, the more I do this, the more I see that’s overrated,” Aranda said. “And the energy and strength of will and the guys deciding to make a stop is what turned it around for us.”

Can someone ask him to clarify this? Is this why we keep getting eaten up, especially in the middle quarters of games?

Coach Rolo made the adjustment to go with an empty backfield, and LaTech took forever to figure it out. If they didn’t make any adjustments, we would’ve stayed with it the whole game. If we don’t adjust to what our opponent’s offense does, do we just hope to be in the right position to make a play? Do we “will” them to run right to someone on defense, so we have a chance at making a tackle? Do we stop blitzing to put pressure on their QB’s to disrupt their passing? How can coach Aranda say “adjustments… are overrated”???

  372. Shoko October 3, 2010 5:48 am

Thats a very interesting comment by Coach Aranda. The guy sounds frustrated about his past adjustments not having an effect in past games. I’m sure he’s going to get some flack from da fans, as I already read a couple comments about that. 😉

    Hi d1!

You bet! Rob25 and the A-Joes and I have to be there so we can lose our voices screaming for our boys!!!

  381. Pomai October 3, 2010 6:34 am

I’ll take a win anytime, but I have to say: If it was not for the excellent receivers that we have we would have not scored as much. Moniz was all over the place. He seems to read the defense pretty good but his throws where off either high or in back of the receivers, thank God they have darn good hands. If LaTech had a good QB we could of lost this game our d was not good, they had no answer to the hurry up an they were running out of gas in the last quarter.

So even with the win have to give the team a -c for the game, and the coaches a d+ if anything that needs to be improved before next week it’s coaching.

The above comments came from the head not the heart

#347 & #348… Might want to ask Shawn Ching or John Veneri who did the punting duties during those years. They might remember if Elam wasn’t the one. For some reason, all I remember was Elam was money back then. I almost want to say that someone else did the punting, but I can’t recall for sure.

  385. Shoko October 3, 2010 6:59 am

Sagarin came out with his updated stats after this weekends games. Seems he has Hawaii as nine point underdogs against Fresno State. Considering how Hawaii is ranked number one in passing, that might be a little high. We’ll see where Las Vegas Sport Consultants sets the line. After the Warriors win last night, I wouldn’t go to crazy that Fresno State will win.

  386. Shoko October 3, 2010 7:03 am

Did anyone else noticed that our running backs are doing a lot more shaking and baking nowadays? What happened to our big back, ala Mauia, Keleiikipi, that I thought we were going to use? Looked like a couple of times they could have gained more yards but stopped to shake and bake, thus getting tackled. We need a big back to break tackles too and just go forward to gain yards and drag the “D”. Didn’t we practice with a “elephant” backfield during spring ball? Last night a big back wasn’t needed much, but in future games?

Student seats empty even with free tickets? Maybe they also need free transportation. Does UH supply free transportation from the school for the students? This is sad. It is their school. I hope JD or the powers that be, don’t give up on the students and take this benefit away. I think it just needs time. If we start winning and be the talk of the town, I sure more students will attend. Once they attend, hopefully they have a positive experience and return. We have to find out why they are not attending. Are they turned off by the high cost of food and beer at the stadium. Too much trouble getting there and back? Too busy studying? Easier and cheaper to get PPV or go to a place with PPV to view a game? Or do they even care?

  401. geevum October 3, 2010 9:05 am

Aranda is right. Halftime adjustments on defense are overrated. Defensive adjustments are made all game long, and there is no magic fix at halftime. It’s common sense since you have to believe that if you shut their offense down in the first half, they will make adjustments to their offense at halftime. So then what are you making halftime defensive adjustments to? A guess at what their adjustments will be? No. You make adjustments after halftime, after you figure out what their adjustments were. It’s the difference between knowing football and watching football. Aranda knows football. The couch potatoes who post in forums and story comment sections only watch football.

  402. madeinhawaii October 3, 2010 9:22 am

If you go into half-time with a lead. Defensively, how much adjustments can you really make? I mean, you know the other team will come out doing something different, but what? Offensively, what do you change?

  403. madeinhawaii October 3, 2010 9:31 am

    new post up

  404. Michigan Warrior October 3, 2010 10:16 am

Nice try, geevum… but LaTech got the ball with 6:28 to go in the first half, and marched down the field to score their first TD. Then, we fumbled the ball away on our 12, and they marched down again to their 18, running out of time at the half.

We held them to 19 yards in the first quarter, 15 of that on a fake punt.

Then, we proceeded to give up 140 yards in the second quarter. We needed to fix something, but didn’t. No adjustments needed?

They then opened the third quarter with another long drive and a TD. They followed that with a failed 4th down conversion, then another long TD drive. That’s another 145 yards we gave up in the third quarter. Still no need for adjustments?

I didn’t get a chance to play after high school, since I went straight into the Army, but don’t assume that we’re just couch potatoes who have never experienced anything aside from turning the tv on.

  405. Michigan Warrior October 3, 2010 10:21 am

MIH… yes, we went into halftime with a lead, but we didn’t do anything to slow down LaTech from 6:28 left in the 2nd quarter. In that short time, we gave up 140 yards and almost two scores. After keeping them quiet for over a quarter and a half, they figured something out, and we didn’t counter. They continued with two more scores in the 3rd quarter, and another 145 yards. They didn’t come out doing anything differently than what they had done at the end of the first half, and yet we still couldn’t stop them. We allowed them to make a game of it, instead of shutting them down.

Our inability to make adjustments almost cost us the Army game, and shut us down in the Colorado game.

UH does provide free buses for students living on campus.

Besides, we all know the typical Hawaii crowd… If Nevada can stay ranked in two weeks then more will show up because its a ranked opponent.

Utah State game in Logan could be a tough one for UH. Hope the defense gets their tackling down. Also read that BYU fired their DC after the loss to Utah State. The fact that he’s African American and non-Mormon has also added fuel to the fire. Looks like OC Robert Anae is next on the chopping block.

Does anyone else think that the baseball season is way too long? Do we really need 180 games to figure out that the Yankees and Red Socks are the best teams? No individual game serves a purpose. Doesn’t really matter to the players if they win it or lose it.

At a debate in the 2000 New York Senate race, Republican Rick Lazio strode pet products across the stage and demanded Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton sign a pledge banning unregulated financial contributions known as “soft money” from her pressurized solar water heater campaign. The teflon tapes confrontation generated sympathy for Disinfector Clinton while making Lazio look like a menacing bully. Rewards can be sweet for candidates who exceed expectations or who benefit from opponents’ poor performances. But risks are enormous, too, particularly in the Internet age. Make a major gaffe, and it can go viral or become fodder for attack ads in the final days.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.
