Warriors lose; Higgins injured

BOUlDER, Colo. — The Warriors lost to Colorado, 21-12, and they might be without quarterback Jeremy Higgins. Preliminary diagnosis is Higgins suffered a fracture in his left (throwing) hand. It’s a similar injury suffered by offensive lineman Kody Afusia in the opener, only Higgins, obviously, is a quarterback.

The Warriors missed chances, particularly in three trips into the red zone.

Tyler Hadden scored all of UH’s points on four field goals.

The Warriors depart tonight to the West Coast, and return to Honolulu tomorrow morning.

Prove the naysayers wrong Warriors, and onto yourselves, that you are better team than people give you credit for. I hope the fans and supporters that have a unwavering sunny disposition towards the players and coaches are rewarded with a victory today, where their pent up tears of joy are uncorked and overflowing. That would be nice.

  23. 3-Prong September 20, 2014 6:27 am

Rice starting QB just hurt his non throwing shoulder.

  24. Stephen Tsai September 20, 2014 6:37 am

    DaveLetterMan:
Actually, a Colorado writer tripped on some stairs. Got cut up. Another Colorado guy got his leg cut up by a wire sticking out of a chair. The Hawaii reporters are moving slowly.

  25. gigi-hawaii September 20, 2014 6:45 am

    ST,
too bad about those Colorado guys getting hurt.
    But, why am I laughing???

    B1?
    Be one winnah!
    B4?
Before you write it down, make sure you have the right number.
    Sigh.
    I really am old.

  47. Stephen Tsai September 20, 2014 7:35 am

Warriors in white jersey, white pants. Green numbers. This should be easy to identify the players.

  48. Stephen Tsai September 20, 2014 7:36 am

Did we mention Penitito Faalologo and Josh Long are on the trip?
No, Nick Nelson, though. Jalen Rogers, Jamal Mayo and Jerrell Jackson are all here.

  49. DaveLetterMan September 20, 2014 7:37 am

Ah, memories. I was the one that brought in the mail in entries.
Almost game time. Go Rainbow Warriors!

  50. Shoko September 20, 2014 7:43 am

    Are those buffalo meatballs?

  51. ya@ba.com September 20, 2014 7:58 am

Do you need a log-in to watch the game on the pac12 site?

  52. hatakeman September 20, 2014 8:02 am

Nope, no rainbows on the uniforms.

  53. 808WarriorFan September 20, 2014 8:03 am

  54. Claud Sutcliffe September 20, 2014 8:06 am

    UH 28-CU 21
    Go ‘Bows!

  55. jeezy33 September 20, 2014 8:16 am

    awful block by vela

  56. gobows September 20, 2014 8:16 am

jordan wynn needs to start coaching the damn qb’s, no excuse for consistently overthrowing open receivers.

  57. jeezy33 September 20, 2014 8:16 am

    vele

  58. markazulu September 20, 2014 8:17 am

    Action packed so far.

  59. whitey September 20, 2014 8:17 am

good start, interception, not too good, 1 for 3 pass 3 yds, then disaster, fumble lost.

  60. Ipu Man September 20, 2014 8:24 am

Can’t watch game without log in to west coast links. Junk. 🙁

  61. tom-warriornation September 20, 2014 8:26 am

Brain dead running plays right up the middle again!

  62. whitey September 20, 2014 8:26 am

defense was very good, then back to not so good, 3 runs 3 yds, punt.

  63. markazulu September 20, 2014 8:27 am

Our offense needs to do better than that the defense is gonna get tired quick.

  64. Ipu Man September 20, 2014 8:29 am

Lakalaka “skipping and dancing” Radio BC says. 🙂

  65. 99club September 20, 2014 8:32 am

    3-0 Hawaii! Nice drive!

  66. hatakeman September 20, 2014 8:32 am

Warrior defense playing stout!!! Go Warriors !!!

  67. Ipu Man September 20, 2014 8:33 am

Field Goal is Hawaii’s Rainbow! 🙂

  68. gobows September 20, 2014 8:34 am

hope they got oxygen on the sideline

  69. Inyoface September 20, 2014 8:34 am

Running up the middle isn’t working!

  70. whitey September 20, 2014 8:34 am

defense excellent, very good run, predictable passing, sack, then use good judgement and got FG.

  71. 99club September 20, 2014 8:35 am

Wow. I just heard Kansas St. asked if Tyler wanted to transfer.

  72. 99club September 20, 2014 8:36 am

Jeez, that should have been intercepted!

  73. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 20, 2014 8:37 am

It’s funny in a sad way that we have this quarterback guru as HC and the weakest link on this team is the QB position.

    Good lord…

  74. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 20, 2014 8:37 am

Ahhhh #23 does it again. -_-

  75. 99club September 20, 2014 8:39 am

    Finally, a flag.

  76. whitey September 20, 2014 8:39 am

and just like that, the buffalo scores. d able to control ground game, but air game is a suspect.

  77. gobows September 20, 2014 8:39 am

maggitt stays consistent…giving up big plays

  78. 99club September 20, 2014 8:40 am

    Kemp havin’ a good game.

  79. Inyoface September 20, 2014 8:40 am

Got burned for a long one again.

  80. Inyoface September 20, 2014 8:41 am

Vanilla offense, running up the middle too much!!!!

  81. markazulu September 20, 2014 8:42 am

    Quick update

    Woolsey 5-8 39 yards

  82. 99club September 20, 2014 8:42 am

7-3 Colorado at the end of the 1st, Hawaii driving. Already in FG range.

  83. 99club September 20, 2014 8:47 am

    BOOM Lakalaka!

  84. markazulu September 20, 2014 8:47 am

sefo liufau 5-6 87 yards (71 yard td pass)

  85. 99club September 20, 2014 8:51 am

FG good! Way to go ‘Bows! 7-6 Colorado.

  86. whitey September 20, 2014 8:51 am

imho, Coach Chow is not an offensive guru, but a coach who understands the passing game and was fortunate to be on the BYU staff during it’s glory days. If he was a guru, he would be in demand and many teams would imitate the offense. Like many good offensive coaches, passing or running, the defensive coaches will catch up and minimize your offense. Great passing coaches, Air Coreyell, Mouse Davis, Bill Walsh, etc. Great running coaches, Hank Stram, Gen Neyland, Vince Lombardi, Barry Switzer, Fisher DeBerry, etc. Then came the defense, Lombardi, Buddy Ryan, etc.

  87. Inyoface September 20, 2014 8:52 am

    No red-zone TD.

  88. markazulu September 20, 2014 8:53 am

FG good job guys but we need to get that into the endzone.

  89. RB September 20, 2014 8:55 am

OMG take Dee Maggit out. He gets burned on ever long play for a TD.

  90. whitey September 20, 2014 8:55 am

Tyler Hadden is having a very good game.

  91. whitey September 20, 2014 8:59 am

Yikes, the buffalo did it again.

  92. AllG September 20, 2014 9:00 am

We get FG they get TDs story of Norm Chow as a Head Coach

  93. Cruisecontrol September 20, 2014 9:01 am

UH 2nd down & goal on the 2 yd. line, they had been running the ball well on this drive, and they call a passing play…and end up losing 4 yds. & end up settling for a FG. Sheesh. Who’s calling the plays?

  94. markazulu September 20, 2014 9:01 am

Except for the FG that hit the post in washington i’d say Tyler Hadden is having a great year.

  95. AllG September 20, 2014 9:05 am

Play calling this year has been pretty bad this year not sure who is truly calling the plays

  96. AllG September 20, 2014 9:06 am

    Way too conservative

  97. gobows September 20, 2014 9:06 am

urban leads the team in penalties…some were bogus calls against osu.

  98. Inyoface September 20, 2014 9:06 am

Taylor Graham time, I’m sorry I can’t watch this guy anymore.

  99. Shoko September 20, 2014 9:07 am

Hmm, Harding looks hurt from running into Muraoka.

  100. djmitcho September 20, 2014 9:07 am

I’m sorry…..but Woolsey is not a very good QB.

  101. RB September 20, 2014 9:08 am

    Harding is hurt.

  102. AllG September 20, 2014 9:08 am

Been a season ticket holder for over 20 years and have missed more games under Norm Chow then I had the previous 20 years. Just not a fun product to watch

  103. Inyoface September 20, 2014 9:08 am

Receiver was in stride on a sweep and Woosley throws behind and to his knees.

  104. Shoko September 20, 2014 9:09 am

    He looks alright, though.

  105. whitey September 20, 2014 9:09 am

still scratching my bald head, 2 incomplete pass and punt on 3rd down????? I assume if you are behind in football, you use the maximum number of downs, but maybe I am totally wrong and a good defensive play (punt) might get team in position to score. Still scratching my head.

  106. gobows September 20, 2014 9:11 am

    96

they have 12 different plays that run up the middle. to you, me, and everyone else they look like the same play. but to the expert coaches, they are different.

and if you buy that crap, i get one remote hawaiian island for sale.

  107. markazulu September 20, 2014 9:12 am

poor throw, dropped pass, holding call on 3 consecutive plays 🙁

  108. markazulu September 20, 2014 9:13 am

the completion percentage for Woolsey is good the yards average is 2 yards

  109. djmitcho September 20, 2014 9:14 am

    No defense….

  110. whitey September 20, 2014 9:14 am

counted wrong, but still scratching bald head cause da warrior’s defense is not getting a break from the offense. not time to give up, but maybe time to take major breakaway from game, so not get nuha.

  111. RainbowCliff September 20, 2014 9:17 am

    WOW, Same old story !

No offensive attack and shady defense. 21-6 and playing catch up again.

This same old song is tiring !

  112. Shoko September 20, 2014 9:17 am

Any guesses on who Chow puts in the second half at QB?

  113. Inyoface September 20, 2014 9:18 am

From what I see of Woosley is he’s too hesitant to pull the trigger. Lot’s of double pumps and then it doesn’t go well.

  114. markazulu September 20, 2014 9:18 am

    Woolsey is averaging 2.9 yards
    Liufau is averaging 9.2 yards

  115. gobows September 20, 2014 9:19 am

now we know why maggitt keeps getting burnt, he doesn’t have his swagger

  116. markazulu September 20, 2014 9:19 am

Lakalaka though is having a good game.

  117. gobows September 20, 2014 9:20 am

    shoko

woolsey. garans. coaches don’t know jack.

  118. RainbowCliff September 20, 2014 9:20 am

    Three and Out !

UH leads the NATION in 3 and out !

  119. RB September 20, 2014 9:20 am

Im sorry but Woolsey gotta go. Put TG in!!!!!

  120. Tempmanoa September 20, 2014 9:20 am

Feel sorry for the D. Change QB before we fall behind more. Try Higgins. You can see the defense is getting gassed at this atlititude.

  121. Inyoface September 20, 2014 9:21 am

    Passes are behind or overthrown!

  122. AllG September 20, 2014 9:21 am

    Wow this offense is boring

  123. AllG September 20, 2014 9:22 am

Man this is sad we need to find a QB desperately!

  124. 99club September 20, 2014 9:22 am

C’mon! Let’s get a score before the half.

  125. AllG September 20, 2014 9:23 am

Try the Freshman QBs it can’t get much worse

  126. RainbowCliff September 20, 2014 9:24 am

Three and out once again !

  127. markazulu September 20, 2014 9:25 am

What frustrates me more is Hawai’i have been getting great field positions during 3 games

  128. djmitcho September 20, 2014 9:26 am

Its always bad when the best player so far is the punter

  129. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 20, 2014 9:26 am

Ok, I think Woosley has had enough time to show if he’s got it or not.

    #WeNeedAChange

  130. Inyoface September 20, 2014 9:26 am

We might have the best punting game in the nation.

  131. mo808 September 20, 2014 9:26 am

Scott Harding is my Hero! 😀

  132. Inyoface September 20, 2014 9:27 am

    All completed passes go nowhere.

  133. gobows September 20, 2014 9:28 am

hawaii offense is offensive. consistently missing opportunities. what are the offensive coaches doing about it? not a damn thing, nothing changes. they suck.

  134. markazulu September 20, 2014 9:28 am

I don’t wanna give up on Woolsey but nothing is happening we need a spark. Just put in Higgins or Graham.

  135. markazulu September 20, 2014 9:30 am

Interesting stat Hawaii has had four 3 and outs.

  136. RB September 20, 2014 9:32 am

Norm Chow will say ” Ikaika gives us the best chance to win” Or ” Ikaika is our guy” Im sorry but Woolsey is not a D1 QB DII or D III maybe but D1? no way!!!!!

  137. Shoko September 20, 2014 9:34 am

    lol…man.

  138. AllG September 20, 2014 9:34 am

Wow right there sums up Woolsey accuracy! Can’t even get the ball to land in the end zone. I just play maybe once a year and I can do that, pretty sad.

  139. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 20, 2014 9:34 am

Good effen grief….his only job was to throw it SOMEWHERE ANYWHERE in the endzone….a 10 yard area and he overthrows it by 5 yards.

    Seriously WTF?!?

  140. gobows September 20, 2014 9:34 am

hail mary pass…and he throws it out the end zone. can’t phuc it up more than that.
coaches need to start coaching the qb! they suck.

  141. Inyoface September 20, 2014 9:35 am

He overthrew the whole endzone!! Haha thats hilarious.

  142. jeezy33 September 20, 2014 9:35 am

hawaii could have easily completed 15 yard hitch and get OB for FG try.. Bad coaching

  143. tom-warriornation September 20, 2014 9:35 am

    QB change please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  144. Chicken Grease September 20, 2014 9:35 am

Mercy. Score was 7-6 not too long ago.

Watching the Rice vs. Old Dirty B—–d game. Do we play Rice @ Rice? They got a nice TC Ching-ish field there. Warriors should have an easy time there, small crowd too.

  145. gobows September 20, 2014 9:36 am

see if the coach had any sense, he would have put in graham or higgins. faka dumb.

  146. Inyoface September 20, 2014 9:36 am

Thats a throw out of frustration or he has no idea whats going on anymore.

  147. Inyoface September 20, 2014 9:38 am

I’m going to break my laptop

  148. Shoko September 20, 2014 9:40 am

Hate to say it but this offense makes the 2012 offense look legit.

  149. Tempmanoa September 20, 2014 9:41 am

There will be a change in QB after halftime.
I think Woolsey is done not just for this game, but as starter.
Chance for Higgins or Graham. Any guesses as to who it will be?

  150. Chicken Grease September 20, 2014 9:43 am

A Grease’s prediction (please refer to Mr. Pomai’s chart):

    Hawaii: 10
    ‘Rado: 45

Coming to reality. Hmph. Might have to change my screen name to “Chicken Greastrodamous” if score comes true.

And Chow can tattoo a big “L” on his forehead and “I Love Ikaika this much” on his lips.

May it’s just Asians who are unable to effectively coach college football. Oh, who is a Grease kidding. It’s just Chow’s fault. “Well, I tell ya” “Well I tell ya.” Shaddap Chow. Just shut up.

  151. djmitcho September 20, 2014 9:45 am

UH games getting boring. Maybe I’m getting spoiled by watching so much exciting HS football. On thursday night I watched one RB run for 235 yds and 5 tds. The rb on the opposing team rand for 313 yds and 5 tds. I’m almost over watching this game. I love UH but at this point I’m more excited to see the potential shootout between Ore and WSU in Pullman tonight

  152. Mytake September 20, 2014 9:46 am

I don’t blame Chow. He is who he is. I blame the people and the politics who hired him. Don’t blame the fans for not showing up to to watch this farce. This is all on you.

  153. Chicken Grease September 20, 2014 9:47 am

    Inyoface September 20, 2014 at 9:38 am

I’m going to break my laptop

Haaahah, Inyoface, please do not do this!

  154. Chicken Grease September 20, 2014 9:51 am

    Mytake September 20, 2014 at 9:46 am

I don’t blame Chow. He is who he is. I blame the people and the politics who hired him.

Yeah? By that same token, you don’t blame the 9/11 hijackers, too? You don’t blame the late Osama “el DeBarge” bin Laden? The American Satan is to blame, right? I see that take. Yeah

  155. RainbowCliff September 20, 2014 9:52 am

Talent is never going to come to Hawaii as Chow had previously. YOU must recruit talent and have not only coaches make that their primary function but ALUMNI involvement who can spot talent and can make valuable recommendations to this egotistical and inept coaching staff. You need SKILL players at your skill positions and IF your best player is your PUNTER from Australia then it is truly going to be another long season. Watching what UH is today is so sad and really no excuse. There are so many of us out there that can HELP but being tuned out and having no respect being former athletes leaves you with what you have today a LOSING program. Now to remedy this problem you hear “drop UH football or demote to a Division II level”. Fans are frustrated and Aloha Stadium looks like a jig saw puzzle with so many empty seat pieces. Fingers are pointing every where while the same problems exist with a poor offensive team, Quarterback controversy and Leadership at all levels. Never thought I will ever see the day that we have sunk to this level of play in Rainbow Warrior Football. So DISAPPOINTING !

  156. markazulu September 20, 2014 9:54 am

I think Hawai’i maybe was banking to much on Tui or Wittek coming over this season.

  157. RB September 20, 2014 9:55 am

Norm Chow “that’s a good football team” he always says that. Coach just man up and say I suck as a head coach!!!!!

  158. djmitcho September 20, 2014 9:56 am

looks like Higgins getting 2nd half start

  159. RB September 20, 2014 9:56 am

Looks like Woolsey is out and Higgins is in…..

  160. Shoko September 20, 2014 9:56 am

    Looks like Woolsey round 2.

  161. Chicken Grease September 20, 2014 9:56 am

    It’s HIGGINS!

  162. markazulu September 20, 2014 9:57 am

Hawai’i offense has been abysmal so far. It looks though Higgins is coming in.

  163. Inyoface September 20, 2014 9:57 am

    Higgins baby!

  164. Shoko September 20, 2014 9:57 am

    Never mind.

  165. gobows September 20, 2014 9:59 am

guess i owe the coaches an apology…they made a switch at qb.

  166. 99club September 20, 2014 10:00 am

FG Good! 21-9 Colorado. Here we go!

  167. Chicken Grease September 20, 2014 10:00 am

RainbowCliff!!! GET RID OF THAT “RAINBOW” in your name!!!! Bad luck for this team 😛 .

  168. 3-Prong September 20, 2014 10:00 am

Das some nice touch. Now we need some D to step up.
    Go Bows!

  169. markazulu September 20, 2014 10:01 am

Higgins 2-2 41 yards in his first drive.

  170. 3-Prong September 20, 2014 10:01 am

Awww grease….da Rainbow got da mana!

  171. Inyoface September 20, 2014 10:02 am

Why hand off to a small back when going for 1.

  172. gobows September 20, 2014 10:02 am

just 4 more fg’s and its a tie game.

  173. AllG September 20, 2014 10:03 am

Another FG, we need TDs. Our running plays take too long to develop

  174. markazulu September 20, 2014 10:04 am

Hawai’i kickoff team hasn’t looked that good either this year.

  175. AllG September 20, 2014 10:05 am

When our QB completes some passes and gets in rhythm Chow always calls a couple runs to take them out of that rhythm. Keep passing!

  176. gobows September 20, 2014 10:06 am

hadden must be getting a little winded

  177. Chicken Grease September 20, 2014 10:09 am

    3-Prong September 20, 2014 at 10:01 am

Awww grease….da Rainbow got da mana!

I think it’s got nada, 3-Prong. Heheh. Hey, look how well we did under “Warriors”, you know?

  178. markazulu September 20, 2014 10:09 am

Lakalaka really is having a good game

  179. markazulu September 20, 2014 10:10 am

Harold Moleni with a couple of drops

  180. RainbowCliff September 20, 2014 10:10 am

Sorry Chicken Grease we WON being Rainbow Warriors not against cup cake Northern Iowa Teams. Once a Bow, Always a BOW !

Rainbow got nothing to do what is happening with this team. Program has GREAT history of outstanding players playing as Rainbow Warriors. Don’t believe that Warrior only name crap as that is not the problem here. Talent and Preparation.

Love you Grease but you need a “lube and oil job” !

  181. gobows September 20, 2014 10:11 am

    allg

when the defense is not able to stop the offense, the optimum thing to do is call different plays, especially ones that are not successful. and if you buy that crap, i have a mountain full of diamonds for sale.

  182. Inyoface September 20, 2014 10:11 am

Whats the 3rd down conversion stat? I’m scared to look.

  183. tom-warriornation September 20, 2014 10:11 am

Moleni has 2 crucial dropped passes right into his hands, next TE please!!!

  184. Shoko September 20, 2014 10:12 am

    Yep, 5.9 yards per carry.

  185. AllG September 20, 2014 10:13 am

Nice pick! 3:1 odds Hawaii kicks another FG though

  186. gobows September 20, 2014 10:14 am

nice block by poti. here comes another fg.

  187. AllG September 20, 2014 10:15 am

    Absolutely pathetic!!

  188. Chicken Grease September 20, 2014 10:15 am

    INT.

Jeez. Couldn’t make the TD. Warrior D supposed to be better that ‘roado’s.

    21 ‘rado
    12 Hawaii

  189. RainbowCliff September 20, 2014 10:16 am

ALLG, you called it. Field Goal. Vegas needs you !

  190. AllG September 20, 2014 10:16 am

Runs the ball all game except on the goaline retarded

  191. gobows September 20, 2014 10:16 am

that is the dumbest play, send the rb out in motion and leave the qb in the pocket.

  192. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 20, 2014 10:17 am

    Hahahahahahahhahahahaha

  193. djmitcho September 20, 2014 10:17 am

Maybe the team should be named the kicking warriors

  194. hatakeman September 20, 2014 10:17 am

More field goals………………..So let’s see, down 9 pts, so we have to kick three more field goals to get even. Red Zone offense really sucks.

  195. Inyoface September 20, 2014 10:18 am

Wynn is calling some sorry ass plays!

  196. markazulu September 20, 2014 10:18 am

You would think we would use the height of Kemp & Barker.

  197. Chicken Grease September 20, 2014 10:18 am

I had to read that last sentence twice, ‘Cliff, heheheh. Mein Gott.

  198. gobows September 20, 2014 10:18 am

play action pass would be a better option than an empty back field. stoooooopid.

  199. AllG September 20, 2014 10:19 am

I’ll take Demo as Intern coach and fire Chow. Demo unit has been the only consistent one in Chows tenure

  200. markazulu September 20, 2014 10:22 am

Luke Shawley looks like a beast.

  201. Chicken Grease September 20, 2014 10:24 am

Aaahhhhhhhhh, tried to get post # 200!!!!!

  202. RainbowCliff September 20, 2014 10:28 am

    djmitcho: The kicking Warriors !

Man that’s funny and so very true !

  203. markazulu September 20, 2014 10:28 am

    Higgins 3-7 57 yards 7.1
    Woolsey 9-20 56 yards 2.8

  204. Chicken Grease September 20, 2014 10:29 am

    Great there goes Phillips

  206. tom-warriornation September 20, 2014 10:31 am

    Stop running up the middle!!!!!!

  207. RainbowCliff September 20, 2014 10:34 am

Yeah Chicken Grease “Mein Gott” too. Funny !

  208. tom-warriornation September 20, 2014 10:35 am

    What a stupid challenge.

  209. gobows September 20, 2014 10:36 am

another bone head coaching move. why did they challenge that play. it was freakin obvious. stoooooopid.

  210. markazulu September 20, 2014 10:37 am

Hawai’i defense has done its part in this game. C’mon we need some offense.

  211. AllG September 20, 2014 10:38 am

Chow really wanted the ball back so he could run clock and kick a FG…what a joke

  212. RainbowCliff September 20, 2014 10:38 am

Tom, your right with the stupid challenge. Now no more and your charged with a time out. Problem with this team can it score a touch down but NO running into the punter. Mental STUPID mistake at a most critical time. Comes down to one thing COACHING !

  213. mo808 September 20, 2014 10:40 am

    Go Bows!

  214. markazulu September 20, 2014 10:41 am

heres a shocker though that was Hawaiis first penalty of the game

  215. wafan September 20, 2014 10:41 am

Well, that is one way to move the chains.

  216. markazulu September 20, 2014 10:44 am

    Dropped 🙁

  217. Inyoface September 20, 2014 10:44 am

    Dropped easy catch. Sigh

  218. MattO September 20, 2014 10:45 am

How do we have a so-called QB specialist at the helm, and yet don’t have a QB that has any kind of steady accuracy? This is horrible.

  219. gobows September 20, 2014 10:46 am

lots of bad passes. and quite a few dropped balls.

  220. markazulu September 20, 2014 10:46 am

    Lakalaka over 100 yards rushing

  221. RainbowCliff September 20, 2014 10:46 am

We won the third quarter 3-0. Seven points are due in the fourth !

  222. Shoko September 20, 2014 10:46 am

    Jeremy Higgins 3/13 57 4.4
    Ikaika Woolsey 9/20 56 2.8

  223. BigFan September 20, 2014 10:46 am

It’s been a much better half.

  224. markazulu September 20, 2014 10:48 am

Really impressed with the Defense though.

  225. markazulu September 20, 2014 10:48 am

@rainbowcliff 6-0 lol would’ve loved that Touchdown off the INT though

  226. Shoko September 20, 2014 10:49 am

Defense is the only thing that keeping the Warriors in the game.

  227. MattO September 20, 2014 10:50 am

Our D and penalties on the opposite side have kept us in it.

Shoko – exactly. And these were Chow’s recruits…

  228. djmitcho September 20, 2014 10:51 am

    horrible

  229. 3-Prong September 20, 2014 10:52 am

    Defense.

  230. BigFan September 20, 2014 10:54 am

D doing a good job. Hope they don’t get gassed.

  231. Ronnie September 20, 2014 10:54 am

So… How many of the incompletions are because of drops? Remember when we started a fund to get the JUGS machine fixed? Is it broken again?

  232. hatakeman September 20, 2014 10:54 am

Still waiting for Warriors to put a series together for a TD. Now is the time. Go Warriors !!!

  233. RainbowCliff September 20, 2014 10:54 am

Markazulu, my bad as all I have been seeing is THREES !

Now we give up the fake punt and defense has to come through once again. DEFENSE comes through but now OFFENSE !

  234. azwarrior22 September 20, 2014 10:55 am

    Bring in Taylor Graham !

  235. BigFan September 20, 2014 10:55 am

D exerting more pressure and covering that wr better. Big difference from first half.

  236. hauoli4usa September 20, 2014 10:55 am

    ….Re-hire June Jones………..

  237. hauoli4usa September 20, 2014 10:56 am

    ….Hire Colt Brennan for quarterback coach/offensive coach…

  238. Old School Dave September 20, 2014 10:56 am

This game is still winnable. UH D is playing well.

  239. Mytake September 20, 2014 10:58 am

This team is going to struggle unless one of the QB’s gets a talent injection

  240. BigFan September 20, 2014 10:58 am

    Whew, saved Higgins butt.

  241. wafan September 20, 2014 10:59 am

Are Higgins’ numbers similar or worse than Woosley’s.

  242. markazulu September 20, 2014 10:59 am

    Jeremy Higgins INT 🙁

  243. Inyoface September 20, 2014 10:59 am

Higgins always starts off good then fizzles for some reason.

  244. markazulu September 20, 2014 10:59 am

    wow what a penalty

  245. wafan September 20, 2014 11:00 am

Another way to move the chains.

  246. MattO September 20, 2014 11:00 am

It’s not “gift” and a “tough one” if the guy ACTUALLY GRABS HIS FACEMASK.

  247. Wes'side Warrior September 20, 2014 11:01 am

Wow! That was huge! Usually the type of call that goes against us.

    Morning, Gang!

Was trying to be quiet and just listen to the game. But I just gotta chime in. Now a facemask against the Buffs.

Dang it! We gotta get this offense in gear.

  248. RB September 20, 2014 11:01 am

UH is getting real lucky with all the penalties.

  249. azwarrior22 September 20, 2014 11:02 am

Bring Taylor in, see what he can do. He deserves the chance.

  250. RainbowCliff September 20, 2014 11:02 am

Boy makes you appreciate Colt Brennan so much with the run-n-shoot. Pro Style offense nothing but a JOKE !

  251. markazulu September 20, 2014 11:04 am

    @wafan Higgins is 4-17 66 yards

  252. Warrior Dave September 20, 2014 11:04 am

    It’s Taylor Graham time…

  253. MattO September 20, 2014 11:04 am

Azwarriror – totally agree. 4/17 is…not good. 23% completion rate.

  254. markazulu September 20, 2014 11:04 am

The only way we get in the end zone is if the Defense does it.

  255. RainbowCliff September 20, 2014 11:05 am

Wes Side Warrior, Howz It my main MAN !

Come right on in as what is going on here is the “truth and nothing but the truth” !

  256. Mytake September 20, 2014 11:06 am

Problem w pro style offense is u need pro style players! Bring back the spread!

  257. wafan September 20, 2014 11:07 am

Guess Higgins is not going to be the answer. Ice on his throwing hand.

  258. Inyoface September 20, 2014 11:07 am

Woosley back in after getting pulled? Feel bad for Taylor.

  259. Wes'side Warrior September 20, 2014 11:08 am

We desperately need a go-to play maker like that guy… dang it!

  260. RainbowCliff September 20, 2014 11:08 am

Mr. Spruce is KILLING us !

#22 is putting on a clinic and out classing all of Hawaii DB’S !

  261. markazulu September 20, 2014 11:08 am

to be fair to our QB the WR/te had more than a couple drops.

  262. Wes'side Warrior September 20, 2014 11:09 am

Aloha, RC! And a warm aloha to your lovely ladies too!

  263. RB September 20, 2014 11:09 am

OMG Dee Maggit is so scared to get burnt again he has to commit a P.I. take him out already.

  264. markazulu September 20, 2014 11:10 am

Nelson Spruce 12 rec 168 yards 1 td longest 71 yarder

  265. Wes'side Warrior September 20, 2014 11:10 am

    Watch that fake again…

  266. MattO September 20, 2014 11:11 am

D is gassed, but man, playing their hearts out.

  267. Mytake September 20, 2014 11:11 am

    WOOLSEY BACK IN!? OH NO

  268. wafan September 20, 2014 11:11 am

    Thanks markazulu.

  269. Wes'side Warrior September 20, 2014 11:11 am

Need one now, Offense! Time’s running!

  270. Wes'side Warrior September 20, 2014 11:12 am

Gotta be consistent and methodical. Move them chains!

  271. markazulu September 20, 2014 11:12 am

Our defense has played well enough to put us in a position to win the game but our offense has played horrible enough for us to lose it. Hurts to say that 🙁

  272. RB September 20, 2014 11:12 am

If Woolsey is back in count this game a loss.

  273. RainbowCliff September 20, 2014 11:13 am

Yes indeed Wes’side as they are right here and see your words ! They tell me to tell you ALOHA !

Had a GREAT time with you and Tsaikos at the Luncheon. Always a pleasure !

  274. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 20, 2014 11:13 am

Is Taylor Graham injured? Did he leave the team? Was he abducted by aliens?!?!?!

Gotta be cuz why the Effen Heck is Woolsey going back in???

  275. markazulu September 20, 2014 11:14 am

Hawaii defense has forced Colorado to 4 punts and 1 int in the 2nd half.

  276. markazulu September 20, 2014 11:14 am

    Jeremy Higgins is hurt

  277. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 20, 2014 11:15 am

I figured out how we will get Woolsey to make completions. Tell the receivers whatever their routes are, cut it down by 2 yards so the ball actually reaches them.

  278. Warrior Dave September 20, 2014 11:15 am

    Sigh, another under thrown pass…

  279. MattO September 20, 2014 11:16 am

Lakalaka playing his heart out too – God bless him.

  280. Shoko September 20, 2014 11:16 am

Graham must be in the doghouse.

  281. RB September 20, 2014 11:16 am

Norm Chow on inside access. ” you know Robert no one feels sorry for us” ” thats a good football team” Ikaika gives us the best chance to win” blah blah blah Coach why wont you give TG a chance? Higgins gets hurt and you put Ikaika back in. Unreal !!!!!

  282. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 20, 2014 11:17 am

Can’t get any worse you say?

    Challenge Accepted.

  283. Warrior Dave September 20, 2014 11:18 am

Graham deserves a chance but Chow doesn’t agree.

  284. Inyoface September 20, 2014 11:18 am

    We l

  285. Inyoface September 20, 2014 11:18 am

    We lost

  286. MattO September 20, 2014 11:19 am

Shoko – gotta be. Got nothing to lose and yet still… no TG.

  287. markazulu September 20, 2014 11:19 am

The defense deserves an A- for their play tonight except for that 71 yarder they have played phenomenal.

  288. gobows September 20, 2014 11:19 am

coaches suck, receivers don’t know how to get open. they play like robots, trying to follow a diagram.

  289. hatakeman September 20, 2014 11:19 am

Ikaika missed an “””open”””” Pedroza!!!!!! Ikaika then overthrew the receiver. Then another incompletion. Then sacked… Bring in Taylor Graham. He needs some game experience.

  290. gobows September 20, 2014 11:20 am

graham doesnt need game experience, the freshmen qb’s do.

  291. MattO September 20, 2014 11:22 am

TG – at least his throws don’t look like floating ducks.

  292. Inyoface September 20, 2014 11:23 am

    Ikaika “double-pump” Woosley

  293. wafan September 20, 2014 11:23 am

Graham’s time is now or never.

  294. Inyoface September 20, 2014 11:23 am

    Graham! Yes!

  295. wafan September 20, 2014 11:24 am

I guess it is not now.

  296. MattO September 20, 2014 11:24 am

    Well…that happened.

  297. azwarrior22 September 20, 2014 11:25 am

Bah hum bug. Make Taylor the starter for the next game.

  298. Inyoface September 20, 2014 11:25 am

Oh well, too little too late as usual anyway.

  299. gobows September 20, 2014 11:25 am

    just another loss

  300. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 20, 2014 11:25 am

The rest of the season is going to be so much fun…..For Oregon.

  301. djmitcho September 20, 2014 11:25 am

    UH has NO qb talent

  302. gobows September 20, 2014 11:25 am

    chow should bench chow.

  303. jeezy33 September 20, 2014 11:26 am

I’m no rocket scientist but thats what happens when you don’t recruit QBs. Especially a JC one that can help u right away

  304. MattO September 20, 2014 11:28 am

Again…I ask…how do we have a QB specialist as head coach in his 3rd year and no viable QB? I’m sure they’re nice boys, but c’mon… when the announcers are making fun of things like throwing motion, floaters, 20% accuracy, we have a serious problem that, given our coach’s resume, we should NOT have.

  305. markazulu September 20, 2014 11:29 am

I still think Chow and company was banking to much on Wittek and Tuileta playing this year.

  306. gobows September 20, 2014 11:29 am

i was off by 1, i predicted hawaii would score 3 fg’s, they got 4.

  307. RainbowCliff September 20, 2014 11:29 am

Taylor Graham is put in a no win situation. Interception and the final viewing to this once again sad football game. Hawaii inability to score a lousy 7 points is just pathetic. 1 win and 3 losses. Scouting report on the Bows “let them throw the ball” !

  308. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 20, 2014 11:30 am

The bright side is there is no way we can lose next week.

  309. markazulu September 20, 2014 11:30 am

    QB play
    Higgins 4-17 66
    Woolsey 10-24 64
    Graham 3-5 25 1 INT

  310. gobows September 20, 2014 11:31 am

    matto

you are truly gullible to believe there is a qb specialist at hawaii.

  311. MattO September 20, 2014 11:32 am

gobows, you truly don’t understand subtext

    that was exactly my point

  312. gobows September 20, 2014 11:32 am

harding close to locking up the team mvp…again

  313. hauoli4usa September 20, 2014 11:33 am

    …Bryant Moniz asst quarterback coach..

  314. Mytake September 20, 2014 11:33 am

    Special teams = A+
    Defense = B+
    Offense. = F

    Wins this season = 2
Note; Coach Chow will coach next season.

  315. Inyoface September 20, 2014 11:33 am

I think it’s more spread option than pro. If we lose at Rice, Chow should be let go.

  316. RainbowCliff September 20, 2014 11:34 am

    Take care everyone !

Enjoyed the dialogue. Got to go swim in my pool !

Enjoy your life and don’t let Chow get too you.

    YOU deserve better !

    A Hui Ho !

  317. hauoli4usa September 20, 2014 11:34 am

    …Chow should’ve used more Ti leaf leis…..

  318. MattyBoy September 20, 2014 11:35 am

Please I hope this is the year Chow is gone. I really do. Horribly coached team by Chow. He needs to go.

  319. Mytake September 20, 2014 11:36 am

JJ said you can never have enough QB’S. Now we know why. Team only has 3 and they all …………

  320. hauoli4usa September 20, 2014 11:38 am

…the team and Chow need to be believe in the “haka” and start winning…bumby not going have football team for UH….that is sad.

  321. Fat Jeff September 20, 2014 11:39 am

Norm as your last sacrifice for the team, turn in your keys and clean out your desk. It’s not working. There is nothing to indicate it will start working. Be the bigger man and walk away.

  322. Wes'side Warrior September 20, 2014 11:39 am

Wow. Frustrating loss. Just not consistent at all on offense. Can’t sustain a single drive and finish it now. What is the cure? Sure, lots of dropsies again, but… lots of just poorly thrown passes too. Maybe we need to work on those quick 4-6 yard strikes before going for anything 10+ yards? Man! We need to do something. Bye week coming at a good time. We are just ineffective.

Hats off to Defense, despite giving up another huge score. They toughened up when needed to.

Hats off to Special Teams. They pretty much did what was needed.

Only 4 games. Still have hope, as long as we can turn it around now.

I mean… we supposedly had our toughest games already.

  323. obachan September 20, 2014 11:40 am

UH should dispense with the JUGS machine and just use a shotgun. If the receivers can catch the shot pellets they might be able to catch the footballs.

  324. Wes'side Warrior September 20, 2014 11:44 am

This whole bye week… just let the QB’s and WR’s/TE’s throw and (run and) catch all week. Get it in sync. Can game plan the following week. Oh wait… as poorly as they have been executing, they should be doing exactly this on THEIR time… like Colt did with the Dreads.

  325. 3-Prong September 20, 2014 11:45 am

  326. jonj September 20, 2014 11:53 am

Great game by the special teams and defense again! Higgins should start next game! If it wasn’t for all those dropped balls on third down he maybe could get a rhythm going. I say get rid of the TE position and go 4 wide already. Moleni has proven he can’t catch. Hopefully next game we get our ass kicked and chow gets fired! Hate saying that, but it would be for the greater good!!

  327. kawika49 September 20, 2014 11:58 am

    Please, no more 8:AM games.
    Never ever again!
Forgot to tell the others let the kids sleep in at home ( major fubar)
No more 8 AM games period, Exclamation mark!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Like the conditioning and the defensive effort.

  328. al September 20, 2014 12:00 pm

Close is only good in horseshoes.
    …nuff said

  329. Mytake September 20, 2014 12:01 pm

“Bear” Bryant stepped down from Alabama realizing he was getting out coached at 68 yrs old.
    Nuff said.

  330. al September 20, 2014 12:03 pm

Give Taylor g. 50% of the reps this week.
    Beau Reilly 25%
    Ewaliko 25%

  331. al September 20, 2014 12:04 pm

    Play the freshmen wr’s.

  332. All Nuha Already... September 20, 2014 12:06 pm

    Wow!
Defense puts up another second half shout, they’ve only allowed 21 second half points all season, and they force 9 more punts, and they forced “Three and Outs” on 4 of Colorado’s 8 second half possessions.
Harding, another great performance on special teams, but the offense, wow, was woeful.
    Absolutely horrible.

Here’s the really big question I think:
Does Ben Jay have the “Stones” to make a coaching change?

  333. Warrior Dave September 20, 2014 12:09 pm

CG, you so very the top… Woosley shouldn’t be the one to say your words. It’s up to Chow and the coaches to evaluate the talent they have and make decisions. I can see giving Woosley every chance. But there’s got to be a point where you make decisions to move forward.

Hope ST deletes your comment. It’s a disgrace.

  334. ArcumFortis September 20, 2014 12:10 pm

I say give TG his chance to start. We have two weeks to give him first reps and tweak the offense to suit him. JH has had his chance to take the QB job but hasn’t been able to. Ikaika is just not getting it done (to state the obvious). I feel for the kid but we gotta move on.

D and special teams were good. Team played hard and we easily could have won this game. With outstanding QB play we would be 4-0 right now. If this continues we will be 1-12 at the end. Actually thought the team, as a whole, looked better this week than they did last week although the offence was probably worse and made the game agonizing to watch. I think I need a bye week to recover?

  335. Warrior Dave September 20, 2014 12:11 pm

Al, I totally agree with your points. Need an infusion of new bodies moving forward. Looks like we regressing.

  336. ArcumFortis September 20, 2014 12:12 pm

331 CG…..I get the frustration. But if YOU are a man you will apologize to Ikaika for your childish rant.

  337. Chicken Grease September 20, 2014 12:22 pm

You know what, Warrior Dave? What I’m saying is what some players need to consider sometimes. You think a Grease is afraid of deleted posts? I’m the only being honest with Woolsey and he seems to need that. So, yeah, delete the truth (is that how you live your life Dave?)

Gotta have more than “good mornings” and “I just landed in Denver”posts on a forum.

  338. markazulu September 20, 2014 12:23 pm

On a positive note the defense has held it together in the 2nd half this year. Washington/Colorado held to 0 points
    Oregon state scored 7
    UNI scored 14

    thats not bad

  339. markazulu September 20, 2014 12:23 pm

Jeremy Higgins possibly lost for the season.

  340. Old Diver September 20, 2014 12:26 pm

Last year Ben Jay said we need to stay the course. I hope he reevaluates his position.

  341. Mytake September 20, 2014 12:27 pm

1 out of 3 mediocre QB’S OUT. CHOW U PUT YOUSWLF IN A NO WIN SITUATION

  342. ai-eee-soos September 20, 2014 12:28 pm

Higgins may have a broken hand (throwing hand), per radio.

  343. Chicken Grease September 20, 2014 12:28 pm

A Grease is the only one with ennough enough courage to say what youse wish you of first.

Courage is the one last virtue not respected in this world.

Tell me wouldn’t breathe a sig of relief vs. “Oh, no, don’t go” if Woolsey were to be replaced.

    -30-

  344. kawika49 September 20, 2014 12:29 pm

Grease, give it a rest. We have two weeks, till next game. Let’s see what we have before conference games begin. Defense getting stronger (corners/safeties need help.). Special teams improved over previous season. Now lets work on catching and run blocking.

  345. NorthShoreFan September 20, 2014 12:31 pm

    Guud Afternoon Tsaikos…bootiful day.

Another hard fought game. This what it’ll be like if we were in the PAC 12. Optimistic after 3 games against PAC 12 teams. 3 games that could have been won.
Good bye week coming up to heal up and address possible changes to personnel. To lose three good receivers, your strongest running back, your db’s call for the reserves to step up.
Defense did a great job again. Feels like we were here in the same situation a few years ago…until the lights went on for the qb. Then things started to click and the offense was hard to stop.
    IMUA WARRIORS!

  346. ArcumFortis September 20, 2014 12:32 pm

345…..I think you confuse abuse with courage…..it takes very little courage to kick someone when they are down…..I would rather call it cowardice……anyone who is paying attention knows that Ikaika is not getting good the job done and a change is needed…..but why abuse the young man?

  347. al September 20, 2014 12:35 pm

    It’s not just the qb…

Wr’s are dropping balls, not getting open. The latter could be lack of talent or offensive plays are lacking or also lacking.

Although the line is improving there is still constant pressure on the qb.

  348. Ipu Man September 20, 2014 12:35 pm

First off, good game against a PAC-12 team—especially defense.
    And special teams.
We need Ikaika to practice extra throws to his receivers till “they”
get it. Practice makes perfect. Problem solved. Thanks team and
coach Chow. No shame. No blame. Maybe call the prayer line
    at 700 club… 🙂

  349. RB September 20, 2014 12:38 pm

UH should hire Mililani Coach Rod York. UH should also start recruiting that QB from Mililani.

  350. al September 20, 2014 12:38 pm

What is courage when it hides begins a blogger’s name, never shows up in front of others, and would never say it to a person’s face.

  351. NorthShoreFan September 20, 2014 12:39 pm

CG, I see the passion to win but to “man up” is to also be able to accept that none of these student athletes are playing to lose or screw up. I haven’t played with anyone who wants to mess up.
The sun will come up and the WARRIORS will move on and be back on the field. Will you be able to move on?

  352. Ronnie September 20, 2014 12:39 pm

    Well said, Ipu Man!

Special teams and Defense – WOW. How many quarters have we help opponents scoreless? I like it! Conditioning shows!

Offense – I’m hopeful that PERFECT PRACTICE will make them perfect. I don’t think lots more repetition could hurt, but it could really help.

  353. d1shima September 20, 2014 12:40 pm

    Great Afternoon All!

    Eh, coulda been worse.

    …try wait,brb

  354. wafan September 20, 2014 12:43 pm

Warriors did not look winded in the 2nd half.

  355. JustAsking September 20, 2014 12:45 pm

#331- many of us share your frustration. But there are rules posted by the Star Advertiser. I hope the SA has the courage to enforce its own policy. It is not about deleting an offensive post. It is about banning a poster that cannot be civil.

  356. markazulu September 20, 2014 12:46 pm

We are 1-3 honestly thats what people had us at. I’m impressed with how we played especially with our defense against 3 Pac 12 teams.

  357. Bryson September 20, 2014 12:47 pm

So anyone else still think just scraping by an fcs team and punting 11 times was a win with nothing to worry about…Hawaii will continue to lose these winnable games to mediocre teams if our offense continues to not produce any type of points that’s 3 out of 4 games where we could not get anything started on offense…Hats off to the Defense and to Scott Harding and Tyler Hadden on special teams who again put us in positions to score and take momentum away from the opposing team only to have our offense do nothing with it…getting tired of hearing the same broken record for the past 3 seasons

  358. BigFan September 20, 2014 12:49 pm

I get the frustration and am frustrated myself. It’s probably because this team looks better than we thought it would be. Most of us predicted a 1-3 record at this point but the team has kept the spread down and the defense looks pretty good. Now is the time where we need to really pick it up.
    Go Bows.

  359. kawika49 September 20, 2014 12:52 pm

We need Ben Jay, to work on Logistics. Put together a package of equipment we need for every away game (Fans, Oxygen Bottles, Bandages, Tape, practice Jerseys and tools etc.) and pre-position it on the west coast. Done properly, I am sure Hawaiian, UPS, FED-EX would be accommodating. Which, would allow our ground personnel, to concentrate on special needs, they have for the unique environment they will be facing.

  360. C-Pop September 20, 2014 12:53 pm

Chicken Grease – Get a life!!!

  361. Pomaikaikeolahou September 20, 2014 12:56 pm

Chicken crap what would you know about being a man…… easy to hid behind a screen name an call out student athlete’s. You want to call him out well then use your real name Figel………

  362. Z September 20, 2014 12:56 pm

    332,333 I agree.

  363. kawika49 September 20, 2014 12:57 pm

Good practice makes perfect. Bad Practice, makes perfect Bad. You inspect to get what you expect. I would hope, in the week ahead; that we at lease work at catching, pitching and routes, and only that for the receiving and pitching corps.

  364. Z September 20, 2014 12:59 pm

Campbell has a pretty good quarterback too. I was impressed with both qbs in yesterday’s game.

  365. d1shima September 20, 2014 12:59 pm

    Sorry to hear about QB2

If that means QB3 gets more practice reps then a call to the bullpen might be more of a switch-up if needed.

    May be interesting to see.

    Rest up Warriors.

  366. Pomaikaikeolahou September 20, 2014 1:00 pm

The one thing I will not stand for is some jerk calling out a student-athlete, no matter what. You that do know nothing bout what these kids put in to put on a uniform and play the game.

  367. kawika49 September 20, 2014 1:01 pm

I don’t want a pretty house. I want a solid foundation; I like what I am seeing…dedicate yourself to, Defense, Special teams, conditioning, then skill players; is the way to go.

  368. d1shima September 20, 2014 1:02 pm

    Tough one, Sailor Blue.

  369. kawika49 September 20, 2014 1:05 pm

OK! So; Ben Jay, we have 3 weeks b4 we play at home. When are we going to have a family friendly game? Where a no Booze, no swearing section, and reduce prices for that section are produced. Oh, and by the way; make sure get enough places for go shi- shi.

  370. jeezy33 September 20, 2014 1:06 pm

Apparently Norm Chow mentors the Florida Atlantic coach. Florida Atlantic is up 2 with under 2 minutes to go at Wyoming 11. They don’t kneel and QB fumbles on the 1st run. Wyoming drives 88 yards and kicks a FG to win…. How do certain coaches even get hired?

  371. kawika49 September 20, 2014 1:07 pm

After this weekend brunch disaster on my part. Pease, Ben Jay; no more 8:00 AM games Hawaii time.

  372. wafan September 20, 2014 1:08 pm

Not sure how much say Jay has in start times at away games.

  373. DaveLetterMan September 20, 2014 1:08 pm

Funny, everyone thought we will be 1-3 at this point. Well, here we are and people so upset. Yes it was a winnable game but it wasn’t the blow out people thought it would be. The boys played their hearts out and that’s all we can ask of them.

  374. wafan September 20, 2014 1:10 pm

UH should start home games, though, at 7pm.

A little more comfortable for mauka fans, folks have time to get there after work, and the visitors will be playing at 10-11 or later at night (their time).

Since UH has to pay for their charter flights . . . what is the issue?

  375. DaveLetterMan September 20, 2014 1:10 pm

Kawika48@369 – totally agree with you.

  376. Paki Parker September 20, 2014 1:11 pm

    Chicken Grease….
Cross the road. How dare you make a personal attack on a player. That’s not balls that’s stupidity

  377. kev-1 September 20, 2014 1:13 pm

I would have liked to see Graham come in after Higgins went out — even before that. If there is a player on this team that hasn’t really been given a fair shot, its Graham.

He started last year and struggled mightily. Just as he started to show some improvement, he got hurt. He loses his job and has not gotten (earned) it back.

I would like to see what he has against Rice. Start him. Play him the entire game. If after that, Chow thinks Woolsey gives us the best chance to win in conference play, so be it.

I understand what Woolsey gives us with his athleticism, but the completion percentage just won’t cut it. And I do believe he can still develop as a passer for future seasons, but Hawaii is in a “win now” situation.

  378. oneseason September 20, 2014 1:14 pm

Year 3 under this head coach is the first year (as I recall) with an offensive coordinator, a QB coach, and a receiver coach. I think it is very unfair to blame players when the leadership has failed to provide a complete coaching staff.

  379. Ronnie September 20, 2014 1:14 pm

    Totally agree with Kawika48@369

I don’t see anything that can’t be fixed. The season isn’t even 1/4 over yet. Still get chance!

  380. kev-1 September 20, 2014 1:17 pm

I think it is fair to discuss player performance. It happens everywhere, on every forum. BUT, there is a line, Chicken Grease. You know that. We all know that.

To me, it is not whether the player reads it or not. It is the fact that WE ALL KNOW that EVERY player on the team plays their hearts out. It just doesn’t always pan out the way we, or they, want.

  381. kev-1 September 20, 2014 1:17 pm

This defense will be tough to play against in conference play. Period.

  382. kev-1 September 20, 2014 1:19 pm

Woolsey will be okay, because he is a positive person. He can play better than he has the last couple of weeks.

AND its not all on him either. There are other names that we could be talking about. Unfortunately, the QB will take the brunt of it. No one is harder on a player after a tough game than the player himself.

  383. kawika49 September 20, 2014 1:25 pm

And the future opponents, have yet to see, the Chow special trick play (no offense), Chinese Fire Drill.

  384. DaveLetterMan September 20, 2014 1:29 pm

Ronnie, yes still get chance. Still get conference play yet. I was just agreeing with Kawika about liking what we’re seeing so far. The foundation getting stronger. Go get’um @ Rice.

  385. Bryson September 20, 2014 1:32 pm

What I don’t understand is why we don’t have more read option plays to keep the defense off balance…it’s like we tried to mold our offense to fit our qb but are still calling plays out of the old playbook…

  386. Old Diver September 20, 2014 1:43 pm

    375

No following you. So if Norm Chow ends the season 3-10 as predicted by most we should not be upset?

  387. Andrew September 20, 2014 1:48 pm

I could definitely feel the altitude effect walking up those stairs haha. Defense did an excellent job in the 2nd half. I thought he should have given Graham a chance a lot earlier. He looked pretty good and composed in the pocket, minus the interception of course. But its tough for him to come in late in the 4th on their own 3/4 yardline. I also think Coach Beemer should get a lot of praise and recognition for the job he’s been doing with the team. They are definietly in shape and did not look like the altitude affected them.

  388. Andrew September 20, 2014 1:49 pm

Colorado did not look impressive at all. We got heckled a lot leaving the stadium but I guess they need to gloat all they can now because I don’t see them winning any games in the PAC12 season

  389. Warrior Dave September 20, 2014 1:51 pm

    #365,

I don’t think it’s bad practices. In fact, it seems that everyone that posts regarding practices say that the receivers make all of the catches. Maybe once the lights are on they not as confident. All I know is that the Juggs machine really helped Davonne, RGM and Salas. Not sure they are currently using it.

  390. nutmegger September 20, 2014 1:52 pm

Anyone have any thoughts on the comparative strength of PAC12 defense and MWC defense? How does UW, OSU, UC defense compare to Nevada, Utah State or Fresno State? Does anyone agree that the strength of our opponent’s defense effected our offensive output?

  391. Warrior Dave September 20, 2014 1:59 pm

To me, I am not surprised at our 1-3 record. What surprises and disappoints me is that we lost 2 winnable game against PA 12 schools and we had to hang on to beat a FCS team.

Lastly, we regressing and not improving offensively. My hats off to the ever improving defense and solid special teams play.

  392. DaveLetterMan September 20, 2014 2:04 pm

Old Diver, it’s still early in the season. The team has been playing better than most people thought they would. Everyone predicted 1-3. We’re 1-3 but could have been 4-0. The three losses were winnable games. Maybe it’s the coaches and the play calling. Maybe it’s the players not executing. I’m not an expert so I am not going to blame one or the other. All I know is that both the coaches and players are giving it all that the have, and that’s all I can ask of them. It’s just a game and it’s not worth getting riled up over something we can’t control. Yes I’m frustrated but I see good things on the field: defense & special teams. The offense sputters but are without iosefa and were down three receivers before the season started. Lakalaka made some nice runs today. That should help in the games to come.

did I miss anything?? The Defense was playing really well when I left and just looked at final and they still did real well. Not going say anything about the Offensive schemes or the Coaches because it is not too good. In fact, something is cooking that does not smell good.

before players can use JUGS, the coaches have to believe in it and make sure it is being used. too bad, BHF2, is hung up, he could go investigate on whether it is being used, broken, or stored away.

  419. Old School Dave September 20, 2014 3:39 pm

Defense played a good game, in particular Julian Gener, TJ, Luke Shawley, Moses, Beau, among others. D got the ball back and gave the offense numerous chances to score. Secondary, broke down a couple of times, but adjusted well in the second half. That CU lineman from Punahou was holding often. DC Kevin Clune has made a difference. The offense is another story.

  420. SteveM September 20, 2014 3:49 pm

    Bye week.
    Heal up Warriors!

The coaches gotta sort out who plays clutch in actual games versus who practices perfect.

    I’m still optimistic.

  421. Old School Dave September 20, 2014 3:50 pm

Props, also to Steven Lakalaka. That’s one tough buggah.

  422. kawika49 September 20, 2014 4:09 pm

Main thing is , we know what to work on. Effort is not one of them!

  423. cocobean September 20, 2014 4:14 pm

Time to review the offensive system. Does this team have the personnel to run a power offense out of a spread formation? I don’t think we have a QB on the roster that can succeed the way things are set up. One problem is speed, The way the passing game is set up our wide outs are in general slower than the CBs covering them, the slot is not faster than the safety cover and the TE is definitely not faster than the LB cover. I think the D has an upper hand in keeping the receivers in front of their third level with their second level clogging the passing lanes in the middle. The open areas are shallow areas to the sidelines and maybe two yards in front of the 2nd level D. The Qb can take a low percentage shot with a long throw when the wide outs are covered 1 v 1. Passing gets harder when they go with a TE, H back and Rb and two wides.

Chow has got to come up with a formation that puts more speed on the field. Maybe double slots with no TE, maybe have Pedroza run routes from either the TE or Hback positions. He’s got to find a way to get better matchups for the QB when it’s a passing situation. Maybe it’s not the QBs taking too long to read the D but they’re waiting too long for the receivers to get open.

  424. cocobean September 20, 2014 4:24 pm

C Grease. What happened to the gregarious, fun loving man about town you portray yourself to be? Are you reverting back to the habut guy that quit the blog when the blog host gave you a mild rebuke. Your farewell shot at the host was multiple – AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

posts that clogged the blog and went on for days. Thought you returned as a better man than the one who left.

  425. Old School Dave September 20, 2014 4:24 pm

Agree, that UH/Chow needs to wake up, adapt, improvise, innovate, in order to overcome these difficulties plaguing the offense. Find a way to get players like Keenan Ewaliko and Diocemy St. Juste on the field more would be a start. Take the load off of Lakalaka and help him make it through conference play.

  426. Manoa Mist September 20, 2014 4:37 pm

  427. Tanman September 20, 2014 4:38 pm

I’ve already lost faith… If Ikaika Woolsey is the best of the Woolsey, Higgins and Graham… and Woolsey is below 50% in completion rate. Higgins seemed to be better than Woolsey but had tough times driving and scoring as well. And now he may be lost for the season. Graham came in and threw INT right away…

Receivers are not catching the ball all the time…

    Running backs are banged up…

DBs are hot and cold… giving up big plays at times…

It’s going to be a long season!!

But gotta keep cheering!! GO RAINBOW WARRIORS!!

  428. cajaybird September 20, 2014 4:48 pm

That was a tough game to watch. The only solution is an immediate coaching change. They do not have a college Div. I playbook. Also, someone remind Dee Maggit to stop watching pro d-backs on Sunday (by trying to play “bump and run” against players that are much faster). Opponents have caught on and will keep throwing long passes against him for TD’s.

  429. Inyoface September 20, 2014 4:50 pm

How’s Prater or Beau Reilly looking in practice? We need a savior.

  430. kawika49 September 20, 2014 4:54 pm

lol a coherent offensive strategy and team identity is a part of “strategy.” Also, kawika49, for tactics being the easiest thing to fix, chow von appen has been falling pretty miserably at it for over 2 1/4 seasons now.

I think the CG will be no more. For a void of Terms of Service and personal attacks. So in plain terms CG wrote his way out of here.

As for the “O” mess we are in. My take on this is (no names here). Lets start with the two coaches, that are the youngest with very little experience in coaching. And the one that gave them the shot to coach. Are the ones to blame for this mess on “O”. And Chow might be writing his ticket out of here. So with all this going on. I hope things will improve, and we get some result’s soon. Hope we get some W and no more L. Hope you all have a good day and play nice. And No more attacks on players. They are not getting paid and need your help through this hard times.

  441. nutmegger September 20, 2014 5:39 pm

#436 Cocobean – very true, people make comments sometimes in the heat of the moment. I think it is important to see the folks on this blog come to the defense of the players that are busting their a$$. I like to believe that most people are good at heart and will realize their mistake when the others point it out.

  442. Not an Expert September 20, 2014 5:40 pm

Being a head coach and instilling a winning attitude is even more difficult to overcome when one starts off losing from the get go. First year understandable. Second year blame it on the defense. Third year blame it on the offense based on the way it’s going. If no can have a winning season it is hard to see how a head coach can lead his troop to victory after 3 losing seasons. The responsibility is on the HC to create a winning attitude and create confidence and pride. What it takes to have a winning attitude, what it takes to have confidence, what it takes to do be successful in your position, what it takes to work as a team, what it takes at the end to have the belief that you will win and not lose. The team does not know how to win and that is due to the HC.

  443. nutmegger September 20, 2014 5:48 pm

There may be some truth about instilling a “winning attitude”, but at the same time starting a season against three PAC12 teams may have more to do with the W-L statistic.

SDSU playing competitive game with the Beavers in Corvallis (14-7 OSU 2nd Q). Seems like the Aztecs match up well in terms of speed and athleticism at the skilled positions. OSU may still be a little more physical, so far.

UH needs to use this bye week wisely – regroup, fix what is fixable, and heal up.

  448. kawika49 September 20, 2014 6:14 pm

No wonder you ARE NOT AN EXPERT. You are confusing, strategy with tactics,

  449. Spidey808 September 20, 2014 6:15 pm

I get where C.Grease is coming from. He’s angry. I’m angry. We ALL should be angry. Yes, I like to think all of our kids are playing their hearts out 110% every game every play. I’d like to think coach chow and co. are doing ALL that is humanly possible to build a successful program. But as i watch our kids jog or walk onto/off of the field and hear chow’s interviews, I can’t help but feel as though Chow has taken this job as a retirement opportunity…thinking a meager number of wins and an average football team would suffice to keep him in Manoa long enough to finish his legacy and allow him a graceful retirement. As someone who’s been in the stands for a 41-10 soul-crusher, as well as two seasons going 23-4; WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT.

  450. kawika49 September 20, 2014 6:22 pm

#441….I have to agree with the comments in your post.

June Jones played these same teams when they were referred to as Pac 10 teams and beat them.
His teams also played and beat Big 10 teams.
I was at Aloha Stadium when UH beat Alabama.
I think the Norm Chow experiment has run its course and should come to an end.

  457. kev-1 September 20, 2014 6:35 pm

I like WW’s suggestion. Let’s talk realistic changes we would like to see.

    Here are mine . . .

    > Give TG the first team reps the next two weeks and then give him the start at Rice. Let him start the whole game and see if he wants to take back the job that he lost last year.

    > More creative running plays. I understand the need to run when the passing game is off. But why do they continue to call the same draw running play in between the tackles? We don’t have a good enough line to create those holes. Let’s see more runs off tackle or around the edge. We have fast RB’s that we don’t utilize correctly. Why does St. Juste take it up the middle? Not what he’s built for.

    > We NEED more speed at receiver. This might mean letting the young guys play.

  458. kev-1 September 20, 2014 6:36 pm

    btw . . . my #454 should read . . . “some people WEAR blinders.”

  459. kawika49 September 20, 2014 6:39 pm

#454 And some people think and moderate; a month, from now what we are ranting about, may not be an issue, other than for those at UH.
The young men we see on the field are giving up their bodies; for tangential enjoyment of the few

  461. kev-1 September 20, 2014 6:41 pm

#460 . . . yes, no doubt. But it is football. And football has fans. Fans have opinions and want results. That’s why there are forums. BUT, we can still be nice. Being nice does not mean we need to always sing kumbaya.

  462. cocobean September 20, 2014 6:50 pm

WW. Regarding the ban on posting. Is it a two game, six game, season long or lifetime ban? It would be fair if let the offender know how long the punishment is.

After a cooling off period you should give the offender a chance for a mea culpa. The offender was generally “entertaining.”

  463. Moocher September 20, 2014 6:51 pm

    I always felt give chow a chance….

However, being an off week me think the timing is now for BJ to pull Chow.
Might be the same type of spark needed that USC had when they let kiffin go.

TG needed to step up, Chow banked on him. Woolsley and Higgins moved ahead of TG and we are seeing the fallout. The situation of receivers that are hurt or injured sent us back to year one with Schroeder who had receivers that can’t separate or drop too many balls.

We are going backwards and the talent on D needs help from the O. Me thinks a new O or new O mindset needs to emerge. Only guy I can think of unfortunately is Rollo, maybe Miyano, or, Cal Lee?

If you had a choice to replace Chow who would it be?

  464. Moocher September 20, 2014 6:54 pm

    Miano not miyano 😛

  465. Old School Dave September 20, 2014 6:56 pm

OK, I’ll venture here just for the hell of it. How about Jim Tressel ?- He must be bored out of his mind as president of Youngstown State. One thing UH MUST do is to increase the salary of the assistant coaches in order to upgrade the coaching staff or else you’ll get more recent GA types who lack experience (OJT). Boise State position coaches earn something in the area of $150,000.

  466. cocobean September 20, 2014 6:57 pm

To use an over used saw….expecting the QBs to be successful using the same formations and personnel groups is like entering a one legged man into a butt kicking contest or it’s like bringing a knife to gunfight. Tweak the schemes to give the QBs a better chance of succeeding.

  467. Old School Dave September 20, 2014 7:01 pm

So far, I really like the job that Kevin Clune has done for the UH defense. I believe that he has a two year contract at $160,000, which is low for a DC.

  469. 808bowler September 20, 2014 7:17 pm

Yes I like clune at defense coordinator. I do think chow struggling to pick the right qb. Which is odd because of all the positions he should know is the qb position. He should have start Shaun last season and should have started graham this year.

  470. Shoko September 20, 2014 7:24 pm

I think Clune’s salary is the going rate for first-time defensive coordinators at the FBS level. If the defense continues to improve and there is a coaching change, I don’t think he will have a hard time finding another coordinator position at the FBS level. If a new head coach is hired, it wouldn’t be a bad move to retain Clune as there would be a smoother transition on the defensive side of the ball and he still has one more year on his contract.

  471. 808WarriorFan September 20, 2014 7:41 pm

#350 (“RB”)…regarding Mililani QB McKenzie Milton…UH has not contacted him yet; that was the first question I asked his dad. CAL wants him bad

When a group of Tsai-kos are in the same city or general area, they often get together to meet. Then UH Road games have more options/activities when groups are nearby. Note the Northern Cal (Bay area) and Southern (Low-Cal) Tsai-ko groups and the UH-San Diego and UH-SJSU games this year. Maybe you can join in.

It’s almost like the first 12 or so plays are scripted by Jordan and the rest of the game is called by Chow…anyone else kinda notice that we come out firing and moving the ball then it just goes dead

  476. 808WarriorFan September 20, 2014 7:55 pm

By the way…I’m now on the “bandwagon” w/ those who say NC has to go. While I’m still debating whether JJ is the answer (and that’s even if he would be interested), one name that hasn’t been mentioned is Dan Morrison. If you ‘Bow fans recall he was JJ’s QB coach and mentored Colt Brennan. Along w/ “Rolo” he’d be another guy I’d look at especially if SMU cleans house after the season w/ their coaches. If we’re going to be 1-11 this year I’d at least like the team to be in contention every game and the offense entertaining. If we lose to Rice I predict the turnstile count for the Wyoming game will be under 25,000. Lose to Wyoming and a majority of the fans will give up on NC. I was planning on attending the San Jose State game in San Jose but that could change if we continue to be predictable in our offense and NC insists on running between the tackles.

Kev-1 – I always liked Kumbaya, great campfire song when I was a kid. I still will give Chow and the coaches a chance. Although I hoped UH would win, it seemed unrealistic that we would beat these PAC12 teams. I think the team performed beyond expectations and consequently the disappointment was so much greater. I will hold judgement until I see how we do against the MWC teams.

We will lose to Rice. Garanz. They scored 45 pts today. Our qbs barely passed over 45 yds. Our offensive coaches have bad play calling. I just don’t get chow? Offensive genius but I don’t c it. Jordan wynn may be a smart up n coming coach but their must b a reason y more college programs dony hve 23 yr olds callling plays or making adjustments. Its called expetience. Chow doesnt no that. Iys like hiring kids right out college to b the mechanics on air force one. Never happen. They have experience people taking care of it. Our off is like the most basic off in all of college football. I watch a lot of college GMs n ours just looks so basic. Another thing is if chow thinks an off coordinator is not important or needed, he should just think about the other side of the ball. He hired a def coordinator n it absolutely shows a benefit. Stubborn thinking n dictatorship will not help out offense. Poor thing. Those players deserve better. They have hearts of champions but being led by the blind. Rice 45-10.

While Chow is here I will support him. When the next coach is here I will support that coach. I will support whomever is coach unless his name is Bolla or he acts like a coach named Bolla.

been reading a lot of post each day. some are thoughtful and educational but I find there are a lot of peeps who just post the same stuff each and every day. not much to contribute but they try to sound like experts. if only they would read the stuff they post everyday and they’ll find its…just rehash and boring.
    over and out.

Graham needs to be the quarter back, give him more reps. Sorry but Woolsey’s not ready.

Well, I am as tired of losing as most of you. But I do like the grit of this team. After the last two seasons of constantly losing (and playing poorly at times) I am surprised by the way they keep showing up and playing to the last whistle. Many would have quit a long time ago.

Is it aloha time for coach Chow? Not yet in my opinion. We lost the three PAC 12 games we were expected to lose. We played better than most expected. For me the poorest game we played was the NIU game that we won.

Now we transition into playing mid major peers. This is where the story will really be told. I still think we can have a good season. I would like to see Taylor Graham have his chance. What’s the worst that can happen. If we start TG in the first half of the Rice game and he cannot perform then we go back to Ikaika and know we will have a sub 50% pass completion rate. It will be very hard to win games unless that improves significantly. The D will have to win the games.

I don’t know enough about QB development to project how much Ikaika can be expected to improve with experience. At this stage his passing seems consistently inaccurate. How much of this has to do with losing some very important receivers before the season started I don’t know.

Lakalaka keeps getting better and has been a pleasant surprise and the turn around by our defense has been remarkable.

As tired as I am of losing I dislike the idea of firing the coach. It means starting all over. Hawaii is not an easy place to recruit to. Coach Chow has done a good job of keeping some of our best boys home and we seem to have a good recruiting system in place. But if we cannot win against our mid major peers at year three then I don’t know what choice there will be but to make a coaching change. I am still hoping this will not be needed.

Lots of frustration to go around. I still support the team and program. Not a great shock that they are current 1-3 with this schedule. I think that it will be interesting to see how this team matches up with the other MWC teams. That will be the true indicator. Saw that OSU pulled away and beat SDSU 28-7 – just too much muscle and talent. Had to feel for the SMU players today as they got killed today by Texas A & M, 58-6.

As the late Skippa Diaz said after a loss, “The will rise again tomorrow.”

Sorry, that quote from Skippa Diaz should be, “The sun will rise tomorrow.”

Tough game all around. Agree with 484…I still believe in this team and coaches. A lot of errant passes, drop passes/ my only question is if they were gonna try to get in the game via the passing, why not put in a passing quarterback which seems to me would be Taylor Graham. (No knock on Higgins)Maybe more of those 5-15yds routes might have higher percentage of completing simply by the velocity of the passes. Maybe TG have improve after a couple of yrs in the system. He has the arm and the height to look over the field. The passing game in the red zone was just anemic at best. I kept hoping they would run a bootleg but maybe they don’t have it in the playbook. The pros still run it and it still works….

Worldwide, I agree that we need to have certain standards. While keeping offending bloggers may make it interesting for a while, it will get boring and also keep some away (I noticed that we lost some regulars who may have been affected by these types of bloggers). We also need more female bloggers to keep the testosterone levels in check. lol. There is a balancing point and we also cannot be too strict.
Sometimes bloggers may post something offensive and leave the blog, how will he or she know if the offending post was deleted? Is a warning sent?

Not comment 49 go figah who this 49 is.

  491. Darren September 20, 2014 9:48 pm

Probably even more frustrating because these losses really seem like they could have been winnable games. This team no doubt has the potential to make some noise in conference play…but the offense/QB situation needs to be fixed immediately. It’s going to be an interesting bye week.

  492. Darren September 20, 2014 10:00 pm

I’d like to think that more than anyone else, the coaches know that our QBs need to make plays. Coach Chow mentioned “game manager” when Joey was healthy. With the “Franchise” out, the QBs (and receivers too) absolutely must become playmakers.

  493. Inyoface September 20, 2014 10:03 pm

Sometimes I was wondering if the oc was watching the same game. I mean 3 runs in a row up the middle for no gain was hard to stomach. You have to adapt to the situation at hand and not just think we’re going to run over them when the defense already knows it’s a run.

  494. Darren September 20, 2014 10:12 pm

Players continue to play their tails off. With this team, I think we can stop always talking about the altitude. Defense and special teams are exciting to watch. Offense needs to be able to get into a rhythm…for an entire game. Can’t wait till Joey gets back, along with all our other injured starters. We really need a QB to step up…kinda like how Sean Schroeder did last year.

BigFan — there are actually quite a few female bloggers (Tsaikettes) posting again. But some are still avid… 🙂

If we’re not going to run, then the other option is the pass. Thinking that the going 40% completion rate had something to do with the play calling. If the passing game was humming…with say a 60% completion rate, then I’m pretty sure the OC would call more passing plays.

  497. Darren September 20, 2014 10:30 pm

Steve M…it’s the same one. I’ve been receiving your emails.
