Chow opens QB competition

In the aftermath of today’s loss to Boise State, UH coach Norm Chow said he will re-open the competition at quarterback between Sean Schroeder, who has started all nine games, and Jeremy Higgins.

* * * * *

This could be the last football meeting between Boise State, which heads to the Big East next year, and Hawaii. It is highly unlikely either would want to continue this series as non-conference opponents.

Then again, with the constant realignments, don’t rule out the teams being in a league together in the future. There are only so many teams west of the Rockies.

Clink, clink.

Let’s raise a birthday toast to Lynette Eastman.

  9. Shoko November 10, 2012 7:38 am

Yep, being the last time the Warriors face Boise State, people should show up regardless of being 29 point underdogs.

I’ll definitely be watching. Sometimes you can learn more in defeat than you can from a victory.

    Go Warriors!

  10. Chicken Grease November 10, 2012 7:40 am

  15. Stephen Tsai November 10, 2012 7:45 am

We were at one of my kid’s volleyball matches a few years ago.

An opponent slammed the ball for a kill. He made the big-body stance.

    We yelled: “Hit is harder!”

Opponent had another slam. He had another big-body stance.

    We yelled: “Hit it harder!”

    Slam.

    Stance.

    “Hit it Harder!”

Finally, he hit it long. He stuck the finger at us. We yelled: “Hit it softer!”

I’m reminded of that every time UH is more than a 25-point underdog.

  16. Shoko November 10, 2012 7:45 am

Jager brings up some good memories. And bad ones as well.

  17. Da Punchbowl Kid November 10, 2012 7:46 am

Hello ther2, kev-1. What do YOU think about getting The Time (oh-eee-oh-eee-oh!) or One Direction (Oh!!! Oh-oh!!!!!) to make benefit glorious benefit concert of athletic department?

Watching this Michigan game. UH Warriors will be great in 2016. 🙂

  21. kev-1 November 10, 2012 7:51 am

Ahhh, Jager . . . doesn’t really taste like anything that should be ingested, does it?

  22. kev-1 November 10, 2012 7:53 am

Not happening. I challenge you to find anyone in the UH marketing department willing to say concert, benefit, and money in the same sentence without fear of losing their job.

  23. Chicken Grease November 10, 2012 7:55 am

Thja’s why a Grease fuel his car w/it, yuk yuks.

    who is that?

  45. NYUHTX November 10, 2012 8:37 am

Time for the Warriors to another one. We got the talent, hopefully the coaching staff has gotten up to speed.

  46. NYUHTX November 10, 2012 8:38 am

What couldn’t I even say it?

  47. WarriorNY November 10, 2012 8:44 am

    Here, Here! Happy Birthday!

(I’ll use any excuse to take a shot of Jager) Lol…

Let’s hope our boys play hard tonight… I just hope they target Darius Bright a little bit. He causes such a mismatch… Just throw the ball his way!

    Mr. Grease,

Your Superman 2 reference the other day was hilarious. Did you see end up seeing Skyfall??? (don’t give out any spoilers) How do you rank Daniel Craig as Bond? I think he’s very good… Probably my favorite behind only Sir Sean Connery…

  48. Chicken Grease November 10, 2012 8:46 am

Have a feeling Peterson might just decide to throw this game same way he threw the Aloha Bowl game against East Carolina? (a victory by the pIrate which a Grease will believe just as a Grease believes that he has a roomful of gold?)

Play right, play good, enjoy getting turned into horse burgers, Broncos, GO WARRIORS!!!!!!!!!

  49. Chicken Grease November 10, 2012 8:54 am

WarriorNY — yeah, got to see preview/early screening.

Hate to say it (still kinda’ skeptical of Craig as the definitive 007) . . . but, Skyfall is the best cinematic Bond ever. THIS is what Fleming was trying to get across.

Hope you can manage to see it in all that’s going on there, WarriorNY. REALLY one of those films like Se7en or The Sixth Sense where the film’s spoilers will be Pandora’s box’d after the opening weekend. So, stay away from those who have already seen Skyfall and go see it if can 🙂 .

  50. WarriorNY November 10, 2012 8:57 am

    Mo808,

Thanks so much for your concern for us East Coasters. My family and I made out relatively well. There are a lot of people that have it so much worse.

The gas problem is serious… I can only buy $25 worth of gas every other day… It’s insane…

But at least we have the….

    J-E-T-S, Yets, Yets, Yets… 🙂

    Hey ST

    Coach is on Maui.

  53. WarriorNY November 10, 2012 9:04 am

    Mr. Grease,

I actually saw Skyfall yesterday. But I just didn’t want to ruin it for anyone else…

Cinematically of all the recent Bond films, my fave is Casino Royale (except the poker scenes)… But Skyfall is VERY GOOD… The director Sam Mendes is one of my all time favorites…

  54. gobows November 10, 2012 9:07 am

boise will be looking to return to the mwc when the big east is no longer an automatic qualifier for a bcs money bowl. the major bowls are looking to realign back with the conferences like it was before the bcs. they already have the big 10 and pac-12 in the rose, and the big 12 and sec in the sugar. the orange will lock in the acc. highly doubt the orange or fiesta will reach out to the big east, when it would be more lucrative to take a big 10 or sec team that is a big name that travels well like wisconsin, michigan, ohio state, georgia, florida, alabama, or lsu. the big east offers cincinnati, louisville, or rutgers which are mid-majors that happen to be in a bcs conference (currently). pittsburgh hasn’t been a power since dan marino and hugh green played there. syracuse hasn’t been relevant for 10 years.

  55. Hank November 10, 2012 9:10 am

#53 the Skyfall Bond Girl is a knockout.

  56. SteveM November 10, 2012 9:11 am

    Hank…

    You are correct, sir…

  60. Chicken Grease November 10, 2012 9:19 am

Maybe SAWARRIOR on a beach sitting, elbows perched ‘pon bent knees, satring out into the ocean. Thinking to self, “wow. I can post again pretty soon.” Then smirks a bit. Allows the sea breeze to pass by him. Listens to the crashing waves, heh.

  61. WarriorNY November 10, 2012 9:29 am

    Mr. Grease,

    That sounds like a Bond reference… 🙂

But SAWARRIOR has been a man of his word… I respect that…

  62. WarriorNY November 10, 2012 9:31 am

    Lets give him a break…

  63. cocobean November 10, 2012 9:34 am

CG. was at the 07 Hi Bowl. At halftime I was taunting some BSU fans about their team coming out here for a vacation.

But in BSU’s defense, ECU had Chris Johnson. Think he had over 400 all purpose yards. Didn’t realize how good he was until he started making noise in the NFL. He’s the reason BSU lost.

    Boise is beatable.

  64. Chicken Grease November 10, 2012 9:46 am

    # 63, cocobean . . . yes, yes. Here’s to the Warriors beatble-g them today, wanna see it, wanna see it, like Alec Baldwin’s character in Glengary Glenross says, “GET MAD!!!!!” 😉

Heh, WarriorNY # 62 . . . wasn’t the agreement 2 days, though? Pumpkin turn back alreadies, whea he stay? 😉

  70. d1shima November 10, 2012 10:16 am

    68. +1

  71. gobows November 10, 2012 10:16 am

#67 if chow couldn’t get it done at uclan, he’s never going to be successful at UH with his current philosophy. it’s not about getting his players, because he had top recruits at ucla, he had size, speed, and depth. even if he gets “his” players at UH, the results will still be the same with his current philosophy. chow was real good, but he needs to evolve.

how the hell is mora getting his ucla team to score 37 pts a game (21st in the nation), with chow’s players.

one thing good, the next UH coach will probably have some players to work with.

  72. d1shima November 10, 2012 10:21 am

NC was the HC at UCLA?

  73. madeinhawaii November 10, 2012 10:27 am

Nah, they were doing bad enough on defense without his help.

  74. NYUHTX November 10, 2012 10:52 am

    http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=233330062

Hawaii beats Alabama 37-29. Hawaii’s backup QB Jason Whieldon won the game by throwing 4 TD’s and running for a TD.

  81. Slugger November 10, 2012 11:27 am

    Happy birthday, Lyn!!!

  82. Stephen Tsai November 10, 2012 12:15 pm

Yep, Warriors are on the near side, as we like to say in the radio biz.

  83. lava November 10, 2012 12:16 pm

Looked over the BSU game plan. SS is in for real trouble today. This will be very painful. Recruiting will take a big low today.

Chow is the wrong man for the job. SS is the wrong man for qb. Put them together and you get what we got now.

  84. Stephen Tsai November 10, 2012 12:17 pm

    I miss Fred Antone.

  85. Chicken Grease November 10, 2012 12:18 pm

Aren’t there broncos in the Gangnam Style video?

  86. Shoko November 10, 2012 12:18 pm

UMass finally won their first game of the season, as well as their first game as a FBS team. Of course, it was against lowly Akron. But a win is a win!

  87. Stephen Tsai November 10, 2012 12:24 pm

    Lava:

Out of curiosity, who would you have hired as head coach?

  88. Shoko November 10, 2012 12:37 pm

Maybe lava is a big fan of Koetter.

  89. Stephen Tsai November 10, 2012 12:37 pm

Now remember, Rolo and Miano weren’t finalists. Koetter was out because of salary and problems at ASU. It was down to Akina and Chow.

  90. Stephen Tsai November 10, 2012 12:39 pm

If Rolo got the job, the odds were that Woolsey would be the starting quarterback.

  91. Shoko November 10, 2012 12:42 pm

So, Koetter wasn’t really a viable solution for the job because he would cost too much?

  92. Shoko November 10, 2012 12:43 pm

Rolo would pick Woolsey over Graves?

  93. Chicken Grease November 10, 2012 12:54 pm

Lot of time in this Texas A&M — they with their cursed white uniforms and weird traditions — and Alabama game. Can’t just “beat” the # 1 team in the nation.

Out of curiosity, a Grease wonders if there are any movies at which lava might’ve cried. 😉

  94. Stephen Tsai November 10, 2012 12:59 pm

    Shoko:

Rolo would have picked Woolsey over Graves.

  95. Stephen Tsai November 10, 2012 1:01 pm

Koetter was out because of the ASU problems. Without them, he would have been out of UH’s price range of $550,000.

Remember UH was trying to dump Mack’s contract, too.

  96. Shoko November 10, 2012 1:03 pm

No bowl eligibility for the Lobos. They had a nice run, tho.

  97. Chicken Grease November 10, 2012 1:06 pm

    Approx’ T-minus 20 mins, folks!

  98. Shoko November 10, 2012 1:10 pm

The days of Mack’s termination has been pretty much a blur. All I remember is waking up one day and finding out Chow got hired to replace him. It was during the holidays when that happened, so I assume I must have been drunk. 😉

  99. Stephen Tsai November 10, 2012 1:13 pm

If some people had their way, he would have been canned before the BYU game. It was decided to wait. He was then going to be canned after the game. It was decided to wait until after the banquet. An hour after the banquet ended, Mack “retired.”

  100. Chicken Grease November 10, 2012 1:13 pm

OCEANIC DIGITAL SUBSCRIBERS . . . THE WARRIOR, THE BRONCO WILL BE on NBCSPT, digital channel 210.

  101. Shoko November 10, 2012 1:16 pm

I dunno why they would fire him before the BYU game. Its not like it took them a long time to find a replacement. Pretty screwed up how they fired him, tho.

  102. Shoko November 10, 2012 1:19 pm

I’m thinking there will be alot of Bronco fans at the game since its the last game that will be played at Aloha Stadium. Besides, its getting pretty cold up in Boise. Here too!

  103. Chicken Grease November 10, 2012 1:22 pm

Political Correctness (PC)helped “do” Mack in; in this case, PC was like the evil small person with the poisoned dagger, ordered by the overlord to plunge one last one in just for kicks.

Wished he fought that situation more and where the f’ was the ACLU to aid Mack as quickly as they get to the side of some smelly pony-tailed Lefty?

Sorry, politics. A Grease will stop. Gotta get going anyways 🙂 .

End of days (well, just FOR today) for ‘bama.

  104. Chicken Grease November 10, 2012 1:23 pm

Oops. Spoke too soon re: ‘bama, End of days of.

  105. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 1:23 pm

  106. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 1:26 pm

Oh yeah. BIG time “guess again.” ‘Bama knocking on the door very loudly.

  111. WarriorNY November 10, 2012 1:32 pm

    Wow, Alabama might go down!

  112. Chicken Grease November 10, 2012 1:32 pm

Haahhaaha, ah, ‘bama. Had your chance.

  113. Chicken Grease November 10, 2012 1:35 pm

Looks like Chow heard a Grease suggestion to get rid of as much white color as possible — green pants; not white pants this game. 😉

  114. Committed Road Warrior November 10, 2012 1:36 pm

    That was quick…

  115. UHfan808 November 10, 2012 1:37 pm

Good late afternoon Tsaikos and Tsaikette, Lurkers and Lurkettes —

Good job D! Good job Haku!

  126. WarriorNY November 10, 2012 1:46 pm

    @122,

That makes a lot of sense… I just assumed it would be later… This is primetime on the East Coast on national TV… Come on Warriorrs!! Let’s beat these guys!

  127. Slugger November 10, 2012 1:48 pm

ST – Tell Curran he’s calling Dee Maggitt John Hardy-Tuliau. Dee is 23. JJT is 33.

  128. Chicken Grease November 10, 2012 1:48 pm

That IMUA on he back of Warrior jerseys looks HUGE on TV, hahaahah, love it.

    Better leave the house already.

  129. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 1:52 pm

a Grease, that’s why Alabama was ranked #1. They almost came back. Which is why I said the MAY go down. Now really down. Mix up the polls. Yeah!

  130. mo808 November 10, 2012 1:54 pm

    Omg

  131. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 1:54 pm

    FUMBLE!

  132. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 1:55 pm

That’s why we not a good team. Common Warriors!

  133. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 1:56 pm

BSU changed qbs on 3rd down. No good.

  134. Chicken Grease November 10, 2012 1:57 pm

Boise getting a taste of what it’s like to play a team who has same colored uniform as the football field.

Glue factory, horse burgers, glue factory, horse burgers, glue factory.

  135. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 1:57 pm

    Thought he didn’t make it.

  136. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 1:58 pm

Review from upstairs. I don’t think he made the 1st down.

  137. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 1:59 pm

    Yikes, he made it.

  138. Chicken Grease November 10, 2012 2:00 pm

Did the team — including Chow and coaching staff — during the Warrior Walk wear gray athletic T-shirts with “FIDO” emblazoned on the front.

  139. mo808 November 10, 2012 2:00 pm

    Good job Haku!

  140. Chicken Grease November 10, 2012 2:03 pm

WarriorNY — see. Grease’s post, the centenarially # 100, above, for TV programming information.

  141. Matt November 10, 2012 2:05 pm

    Go Warriors. Come on offense!

  142. Slugger November 10, 2012 2:05 pm

Why did Wil G get ejected from the game?

  143. mo808 November 10, 2012 2:06 pm

Not sure Slugger but hubs said “he threw a punch”!

  144. mo808 November 10, 2012 2:07 pm

I guess someone must have been in the way when he did…

  145. mo808 November 10, 2012 2:09 pm

    Lets go D!

  146. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 2:10 pm

Gotta get rid of the ball as per commentator. What we been saying.

  147. WarriorNY November 10, 2012 2:10 pm

    Mr. Grease…

Thanks for telling me after I found it… Lol…

  148. Chicken Grease November 10, 2012 2:11 pm

    Slugger:

    November 10th, 2012 at 2:05 pm

Why did Wil G get ejected from the game?

Oh. We (read: WIE) back doing WIE- and WII-isms?

Embarrassing — the NBC announcers understand what Chow’s about light years ahead of what most Warrior/Chow naysayers say.

  149. Harvard November 10, 2012 2:11 pm

Coach sit Schroeder down already think of the mental and emotional well being of your team. He isn’t cutting it right now. Who is he throwing to right now?

  150. mo808 November 10, 2012 2:13 pm

  151. WarriorNY November 10, 2012 2:14 pm

Why does it feel like our D hasn’t played this well since Lamar…

    And we’re down 21-7…

    Grrrrrr…..

  152. anne November 10, 2012 2:15 pm

    any live stream? mahalo.

  153. BowNatic November 10, 2012 2:20 pm

    Game over man! Game over!

  154. Shoko November 10, 2012 2:21 pm

    Very nice!

  155. MattO November 10, 2012 2:21 pm

    Fake punt!!

  156. mo808 November 10, 2012 2:22 pm

    Completion!

  157. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 2:24 pm

Missed it Mo808. Who threw the pass?

  158. mo808 November 10, 2012 2:24 pm

    Throw it again!

  159. mo808 November 10, 2012 2:25 pm

19 to 87 three plays ago!

  160. mo808 November 10, 2012 2:25 pm

Going for it on four down…

  161. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 2:25 pm

4th and 18. Go for it? Thinking about it.

  162. MattO November 10, 2012 2:27 pm

If I wish really hard, maybe Higgins will appear.

  163. mo808 November 10, 2012 2:27 pm

    Oh guess not

  164. MattO November 10, 2012 2:28 pm

Papa – was a direct snap to one of our RB or TEs

  165. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 2:29 pm

defense look like they getting tired.

  166. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 2:30 pm

    Thanks MattO.

  167. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 2:31 pm

Too much time. No threat at all for a sack or hurry.

  168. MattO November 10, 2012 2:31 pm

    Ugh – bad tackling today

  169. Black Bean Chow Fun November 10, 2012 2:32 pm

This is the most embarrasing offensive effort in UH football history! Auwe!! Enough already Chow!!!

  170. greenthumb November 10, 2012 2:33 pm

If you want HD, the game is also on 1210.

  171. Black Bean Chow Fun November 10, 2012 2:34 pm

Not the fault of the D. Defense is undermanned and we never had a lock down since the Wags and Tomey days.

  172. oldie November 10, 2012 2:36 pm

Why was the PA blaring when Hadden trying the FG?

  173. MattO November 10, 2012 2:37 pm

Fault lies on both sides of the ball. That TD run proves it.

Let’s face it, aside from Mike Edwards, nothing else works. Right now, anyway.

  174. 3-Prong November 10, 2012 2:41 pm

#165 MattO: turn your Bud Light label toward da team with me. Maybe Chow will then put Higgins in. Hehe

  175. MattO November 10, 2012 2:42 pm

LOL- bud light label is out, 3-Prong!

  176. Black Bean Chow Fun November 10, 2012 2:44 pm

“Held the ball just a little too long…” NBC Announcer says. Come’on Chow!!!??? bring on a new QB!!!

  177. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 2:45 pm

I think d is getting tired and immoralized. Bad combo.

O cannot get a first down except for fake. Cannot get 2 in a row.

  178. Wassup November 10, 2012 2:45 pm

I don’t know what Chow is trying to prove with Schroder, but through this, he is really losing the fanbase. That will end up being his demise as a head coach. Hard to get our fans back after this season.

  179. UHfan808 November 10, 2012 2:45 pm

    Oh yes:

    Happy Birfday, amazingly talented Lyn!!!

May you have many many many more!!!

  180. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 2:46 pm

BBCF, not the first time he said that in this game.

  181. MattO November 10, 2012 2:46 pm

#177, that reminds me of Bob Uecker in Major League, “Juuuuust a bit outside.”

  182. Slugger November 10, 2012 2:46 pm

    Thanks, mo808 & Leonard.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  183. Whats up November 10, 2012 2:47 pm

Put in somebody else at QB already, SS is holding on to the ball too long again. Repeat of the Fresno game, the defense is smoked tired and the turnover bug is killing Hawaii.

  184. 3-Prong November 10, 2012 2:47 pm

MattO: not working, get out da green bottles……common Tsaikos! Everybody!!!

  185. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 2:47 pm

What you got to lose coach? Our as* is getting kicked again.

  186. MattO November 10, 2012 2:48 pm

Lol – I’ve turned out my entire six pack!!’

  187. Slugger November 10, 2012 2:48 pm

Why are they not using Sterling Jackson?

  188. WarriorNY November 10, 2012 2:48 pm

I’m sorry but how many dropped passes does Miah have this year?

  189. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 2:49 pm

Nah, didn’t hold the ball too long again did he?

  190. MattO November 10, 2012 2:49 pm

0-7 for 3rd down – chow, put your €*^%{€ ego aside and put in Higgins who can release quicker and scramble. Goodness.

  191. MattO November 10, 2012 2:50 pm

    Warrior – at least 2 a game. Something’s up.

  192. 3-Prong November 10, 2012 2:50 pm

Aaaaah, not working MattO. Only you an me as why.

  193. Wassup November 10, 2012 2:51 pm

Is it not obvious at this point that trying a different QB may be in order?

  194. MattO November 10, 2012 2:52 pm

Lol – maybe he’s coming out 2nd half das why

  195. Black Bean Chow Fun November 10, 2012 2:52 pm

Minus Black Bean Chow Fun from the fanbase. Did not go to game and now changing the channel to watch Teo kick okole. Aloha Chow! I hope you are happy that you are turning off all the fans!!

  196. MattO November 10, 2012 2:53 pm

Wassup – it’s as obvious as the day is long, but someone’s ego is even bigger

  197. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 2:53 pm

Punter ran. Not even looking fast. 1st down by plenty.

  198. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 2:55 pm

No worry, I going post positive comments when they happen. Not too much individual though.

  199. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 2:56 pm

    This is our house!

  200. MattO November 10, 2012 2:56 pm

    Our house is getting trashed

  201. madeinhawaii November 10, 2012 2:57 pm

Anybody know what the spread was for the 2nd half?

  202. greenthumb November 10, 2012 2:57 pm

Our D looked good on that series until the punter ran. Must remember Boise = misdirection.

  203. Wassup November 10, 2012 2:58 pm

No place for egos when you are dead last in the nation. Our players are much, much better than this. Whatevas Chow…..

  204. MattO November 10, 2012 2:58 pm

    Good run, Joey!

  205. MattO November 10, 2012 2:59 pm

We ran out the half? Really? Sigh.

  206. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 3:01 pm

At least its over. We got smashed again. Oh, well.

  207. Jack Flash November 10, 2012 3:02 pm

We suck. Change QB already. Go Warriors.

  208. oldie November 10, 2012 3:02 pm

I can understand sticking with Shroeder if Chow was developing him for next year. But Graham in the wings, it’s time for Chow to do some experimenting the rest of this season.

  209. Shoko November 10, 2012 3:02 pm

    0-7 on 3rd conversions.

    67 total yards

    Bring in the backups, please.

  210. markazulu November 10, 2012 3:03 pm

This is ridiculous BLOWN OUT before half time AGAIN! THIS IS WHY people are upset this year. We arent just getting out played we are getting out coached. I understand he doesnt wanna start a controversy but the offense is not BORING its UNAFFECTIVE this season id rather have a boring offense that works than a offense that is unaffective. The confidence is at a all time low. The players are playing hard but the coaching is atrocious this year.

  211. cee808 November 10, 2012 3:04 pm

Colorado State over UNLV 24 – 0 at the half … bodes well for home game against UNLV.

  212. Da Punchbowl Kid November 10, 2012 3:04 pm

    *tsai* oops, I mean *sigh*…

  213. SteveM November 10, 2012 3:08 pm

    MattO:

    November 10th, 2012 at 2:59 pm

We ran out the half? Really? Sigh.

    sigh…

  214. Shoko November 10, 2012 3:08 pm

    Altitude could be a factor.

  215. markazulu November 10, 2012 3:09 pm

Schroder is tough no doubt but this is not going well for him sit him down and let someone else try to spark this team. Before Schroder gets seriously hurt the kid has taken the worse beating this season. It’s like Chow gave up this season already. I’ll say that Mike Edwards as always exceptional, swarming to the ball, joey iosefa is running hard.

  216. Jack Flash November 10, 2012 3:10 pm

    Please bench Shroedee.

  217. MattO November 10, 2012 3:10 pm

    Hig-gins, hig-gins, hig-gins…

  218. Da Punchbowl Kid November 10, 2012 3:12 pm

I never second a guess a coach, but I can agree with certain posts… 😉 God bless SS for takin’ a beatin’ like he does.

  219. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 3:13 pm

Of the 7, soon to be 8 losses, how many was on national tv?

  220. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 3:15 pm

You mean it’s only halftime? Oh lord help us please.

  221. MattO November 10, 2012 3:16 pm

    #219 – he’s def taking a beating – tough buggah

  222. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 3:16 pm

What does a coach say in the locker after being blown out every game? Don’t give up?

  223. Matt November 10, 2012 3:17 pm

We always just hand the ball off and run out the clock at the end of the half. It’s our version of the two minute drill. This game is already out of reach. Might as well put in the backup QBs to see if they can move the team with the first team offense. Give Higgins one quarter. If he isn’t getting it done, play Shutter for the last quarter. What’s the worse that can happen? We’re gonna get blown out anyway. Too bad because the defense has had a couple of good series during this game. I doubt Boise is going to take their foot off the pedal until the 4th quarter.

  224. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 3:18 pm

Only score is a kickoff return. No O. 67 yards total. Some drives are longer than that.

  225. markazulu November 10, 2012 3:18 pm

Lets hope chow tries to shake things up a bit this quarter!

  226. azwarrior22 November 10, 2012 3:20 pm

Sure lot of empty seats at Aloha Stadium…that’s pretty sad. Back in my day in the early 80’s, the average was 40K+.

  227. Black Bean Chow Fun November 10, 2012 3:20 pm

7-3, Teo in the 2nd quarter

  228. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 3:21 pm

At least Joey is doing good, but that’s not enough.

  229. Black Bean Chow Fun November 10, 2012 3:22 pm

    227. Those were the days! We never got smoked like this backe then.

  230. markazulu November 10, 2012 3:23 pm

yes 3 and out comeback!!!!! lol

  231. 3-Prong November 10, 2012 3:23 pm

Schroeder: 38.5% completion % for 59 total yards for the half. Nuff said.

  232. Shoko November 10, 2012 3:24 pm

Will be interesting to find out actual attendence. Does look empty.

  233. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 3:24 pm

Now if we can move the ball and get 1st downs, then the D can get some rest.

  234. markazulu November 10, 2012 3:24 pm

Offense getting only 67 yards i remember when our qb had 67 yards after 1 drive

  235. markazulu November 10, 2012 3:25 pm

All i want is to see them make this game close please

  236. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 3:26 pm

Yeah! 1st down on 3rd down too.

  237. Slugger November 10, 2012 3:27 pm

    Hi, DPK!

  238. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 3:27 pm

    Punt?

  239. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 3:28 pm

    Alright!!!! 2 1st downs in a row.

  240. markazulu November 10, 2012 3:28 pm

Once again Schroder is showing his toughness.

  241. madeinhawaii November 10, 2012 3:30 pm

so how many in the student section for this game?

  242. MattO November 10, 2012 3:31 pm

    Oh Schroeder…. Sigh

  243. Da Punchbowl Kid November 10, 2012 3:31 pm

    Hiya Slugger! 😉

  244. Wassup November 10, 2012 3:31 pm

    Shroder is the man!!!!!

  245. Shoko November 10, 2012 3:32 pm

Student section looks like the black hole.

  246. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 3:32 pm

Thought SS had some zip on that pass but to the wrong team. Shucks.

  247. 3-Prong November 10, 2012 3:32 pm

announcers keep pointing out that he holds ball too long……

  248. gmahoney November 10, 2012 3:32 pm

    MIH, looks like 5.

  249. Chicken Grease November 10, 2012 3:32 pm

Matt and MattO . . . are you the same person? This is confusing, eek.

  250. markazulu November 10, 2012 3:33 pm

Please try a different qb this offense needs a rhythm and adding a qb that can scramble might help.

  251. Da Punchbowl Kid November 10, 2012 3:33 pm

    Shutter warmin’ up?!

  252. Shoko November 10, 2012 3:34 pm

So far, it appears Hall and Evens are leading in receptions.

  253. markazulu November 10, 2012 3:35 pm

Is next year a guarantee that Taylor Graham is gonna be a starter?

  254. 3-Prong November 10, 2012 3:36 pm

Can someone feed the announcers comments into NCs headset. Hehe

  255. markazulu November 10, 2012 3:36 pm

If Shutter comes in and does 3 hand offs again im gonna go mad!!! lol

  256. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 3:36 pm

I hope he gets an opportunity to do more than han off and eat the clocl.

  257. MattO November 10, 2012 3:37 pm

Grease, Lol – no, we aren’t, we just share the same, common opinion

  258. Matt November 10, 2012 3:38 pm

Good stop defense. Defense is playing one of their better games of the year.

  259. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 3:38 pm

With Gregory out, where is Lister and where is Sterling Jackson. Is SJ even suited up?

  260. Matt November 10, 2012 3:40 pm

Chicken Grease. If MattO and Matt confuses you, maybe we can put in Shutter. Almost sounds like Schroeder.

  261. Matt November 10, 2012 3:40 pm

Nope SS back in the game.

  262. Wassup November 10, 2012 3:41 pm

#254 No way!!! Can’t you see that Shroder is the man?

  263. MattO November 10, 2012 3:41 pm

    Oh Schroeder… Take two……. Sigh

  264. iwonderwhytheyhateme November 10, 2012 3:42 pm

He didn’t even get the ball knocked…he just let go of the ball….

Can we please put someone else in as QB?!

  265. azwarrior22 November 10, 2012 3:42 pm

    This is painful to watch.

  266. 3-Prong November 10, 2012 3:42 pm

Maybe we need to deflate ball so it doesnt slip out of his hand. Hehe (actually not funny anymore)

  267. SteveM November 10, 2012 3:42 pm

    Good Grief!

Shroeder dropped the ball BEFORE getting hit…. sigh…

  268. markazulu November 10, 2012 3:43 pm

    C’mon special teams lets score

  269. Shoko November 10, 2012 3:43 pm

Can’t blame Schroeder too much. The O-line gotta take some of the blame. Just like that Iosefa missed block that resulted in a return TD.

  270. Harvard November 10, 2012 3:43 pm

    Fumble

  271. mo808 November 10, 2012 3:43 pm

    Higgins

  272. Matt November 10, 2012 3:44 pm

    Higgins!!!

  273. Jack Flash November 10, 2012 3:44 pm

Why do they keep announcing commercials while we are on frikken offense!

  274. MattO November 10, 2012 3:44 pm

    Higgins!!!!!!

The label thing – it worked, 3-prong!!’

  275. Wassup November 10, 2012 3:44 pm

No!!! Higgins in. Put Shroder back in!!!!

  276. BowNatic November 10, 2012 3:44 pm

Didnt we see this movie last week? My two year old won’t even watch! LOL

  277. Matt November 10, 2012 3:45 pm

Look at 1st down. Yeah Higgins.

  278. mo808 November 10, 2012 3:45 pm

    Completed to 5

  279. 3-Prong November 10, 2012 3:45 pm

    Da Spark is in!!!!!!

  280. Matt November 10, 2012 3:46 pm

Going for it on 4th down.

  281. azwarrior22 November 10, 2012 3:46 pm

    Our O-line stinks

  282. 3-Prong November 10, 2012 3:46 pm

MattO: Yah, delayed reaction. Now was dat da brown bottle or da green one dat worked?

  283. markazulu November 10, 2012 3:47 pm

Thats ok i like what im seeing from higgins

  284. Wassup November 10, 2012 3:47 pm

Hmmmm… I’m no offensive genious, but it appears that Higgins is a better QB…..

  285. 3-Prong November 10, 2012 3:47 pm

As ok at least moving. Go Warriors.

  286. nanakuli November 10, 2012 3:48 pm

Poor Norm Chow. No coach should go out like this with only true diehards behind him.

  287. azwarrior22 November 10, 2012 3:48 pm

Yeah but next week it will be the same…SS, he’s my QB 🙁

  288. MattO November 10, 2012 3:49 pm

    3-prong – was da green one 🙂

  289. markazulu November 10, 2012 3:49 pm

I feel bad for schroder he is one tough guy but he is getting lit up this season our o line is young and he is under pressure because of it but i think if we get a more athletic guy in there we might see better results on Offense.

  290. markazulu November 10, 2012 3:50 pm

Man to think the year Hawaii has a lot of national exposure we are getting blown out every game. The defense is playing good

  291. MattyBoy November 10, 2012 3:50 pm

There’s no way chow has more than 3 wins next season! I guarantee it..can we just get rid of him already please?

  292. iwonderwhytheyhateme November 10, 2012 3:51 pm

Did anyone get an answer to the all important question…”How the hell does Schroeder give us the best chance to win?”

  293. MattyBoy November 10, 2012 3:51 pm

Whatever happened to Al and BigHilo?

  294. mo808 November 10, 2012 3:51 pm

    First good defensive stop!

  295. MattO November 10, 2012 3:52 pm

Great, now there are three Matt’s on the board

  296. MattyBoy November 10, 2012 3:52 pm

Wow! We’re the laughing stock of college football! Can you believe that? The laughing stock.

  297. markazulu November 10, 2012 3:52 pm

A much better effort on Defense today and suprisingly this year our Special Teams has been very Effecient.

  298. Matt November 10, 2012 3:53 pm

Okay, drinking game. In honor of Lynette’s birthday. Jager bomb for every time NC says SS is my QB in the post game press conference.

  299. Da Punchbowl Kid November 10, 2012 3:54 pm

    #294 –

    Y u askin’?!

  300. Frustratedfan November 10, 2012 3:54 pm

    Get rid of Chow NOW!!!!

  301. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 3:55 pm

Yup, hand off 3 times in a row. Not letting him show me up. I’m going to run out the clock.

  302. markazulu November 10, 2012 3:55 pm

If our defense played like they do today we might not get blown out by every one else. The offense just needs to play better.

  303. Shoko November 10, 2012 3:56 pm

Haven’t seen BHF2 or Ipuman for quite some time.

  304. MattO November 10, 2012 3:58 pm

    Gorgeous pass!

  305. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 3:58 pm

USC, Nevada, BYU, San Diego State, Boise State and next week at Air Force. All on nationsl tv. All blow outs. Air Force tbd.

  306. Matt November 10, 2012 3:58 pm

Higgins!!! “Now, that’s how you throw the football” says the announcer.

  307. 3-Prong November 10, 2012 3:59 pm

    299 Matt: good one!

289 MattO: Good, thought I had to start buying Budlight instead.

  308. KonaBoy November 10, 2012 4:01 pm

Not sure what chow sees in SS, but Higgins is light years better in live game action. However, the o-line is putting a cap on what this offense will be able to do regardless who’s back there.

  309. mo808 November 10, 2012 4:02 pm

Defense is looking much better today.

  310. markazulu November 10, 2012 4:03 pm

Our Defense has played exceptional this 2nd half and have played ok in the 1st half. We have no offense basically this season. -6 yards i dont even remember when we ran the run-n-shoot having – yards rushing

  311. KonaBoy November 10, 2012 4:04 pm

310 agreed, played better than I thought they would against Boise.

  312. Matt November 10, 2012 4:04 pm

It’s only negative yards rushing because of all of the times SS was sacked.

  313. Da Punchbowl Kid November 10, 2012 4:05 pm

    True dat, mo.

  314. 3-Prong November 10, 2012 4:05 pm

They’re bringing da house. Screen play would work. No time for the longer ones.

  315. MattO November 10, 2012 4:05 pm

Kona – true, but a quicker, more mobile QB can offset some of that O-line weakness. But yeah, if you can’t give your QB more than 2 sec to throw the ball, you’re gonna have problems no matter what.

  316. KonaBoy November 10, 2012 4:09 pm

Matt agreed, which is why Higgins should ride out the season. He has way more pocket awareness and can make something out of nothing, which is like every other play unfortunately 🙁

  317. markazulu November 10, 2012 4:09 pm

I wonder what would’ve happened had we kept Rolo?

  318. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 4:10 pm

Boise’s offense was struggling before today, but so has everybody else’s that we have been playing. Today though, I thought the defense did a lot better than in previous games. It seems like they are getting tired and losing focus by playing a long game just like toward the end of the 1st half..

  319. Shoko November 10, 2012 4:11 pm

I bet Chow and Rolo would buck heads.

  320. markazulu November 10, 2012 4:11 pm

Higgins has looked good. except for the fumble of course.

  321. Jack Flash November 10, 2012 4:12 pm

This is BY FAR the crappiest d1 college football team in the nation. I can’t stand this anymore.

  322. Shoko November 10, 2012 4:12 pm

Front seven is definitely the highlight limiting Boise’s ground game.

  323. Matt November 10, 2012 4:12 pm

Did we sign the Temple contract yet? Since they lost today, they have to win their remaining two games and the game in Hawaii to be bowl eligible. The way Syracuse spanked Louisville today, I doubt Temple has any chance against them on 23 Nov.

  324. azwarrior22 November 10, 2012 4:13 pm

With our O-line so porous, we need a mobile QB to have a chance.

  325. Matt November 10, 2012 4:16 pm

Nice pass Higgins. I wanna see an offensive score.

  326. MattO November 10, 2012 4:16 pm

Now THAT is how you make a play with your feet!

  327. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 4:16 pm

#320 Shoko, and would be sitting in the stands.

  328. KonaBoy November 10, 2012 4:18 pm

Higgins has to be the starter from here on out. I haven’t minded chows decision to keep SS as the starter, but at this point he has to go with what works. SS is not working. Not with this line.

  329. MattO November 10, 2012 4:18 pm

This offense plays for Higgins. Interesting.

  330. MattO November 10, 2012 4:18 pm

    Wow!!!!! What a catch!

  331. 3-Prong November 10, 2012 4:19 pm

OK Gangees keep pointing dem green bottle labels at da team!!!

  332. Matt November 10, 2012 4:19 pm

Come on offense. Punch it in there.

  333. Matt November 10, 2012 4:20 pm

TD!!!!! Two weeks in a row Higgins lead a TD drive.

  334. Da Punchbowl Kid November 10, 2012 4:20 pm

    Likin’ Higgins!

  335. 3-Prong November 10, 2012 4:20 pm

    Green bottles, Green Unis, Magic!

  336. KonaBoy November 10, 2012 4:21 pm

Wow what a no-catch…. lol. I’ll take the ensuing TD anyway. …and Higgins as our starter. Curious what the post game comment from chow will be…

  337. MattO November 10, 2012 4:21 pm

That kid can PLAY. Buying time with his feet and making quick, accurate throws. Love that!

  338. markazulu November 10, 2012 4:21 pm

All this talk about schroder and how that chow really likes him because thats his prototypical qb i wanna know if The Fans could build a QB from the strengths of any previous Hawaii QB’s?

    Norm Chows Example:

    Accuracy: Sean Schroder

    Toughness: Sean Schroder

    Athleticism Sean Schroder

    Clutch: Sean Schroder

    Awareness: Sean Schroder

  339. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 4:22 pm

He did a pretty good job but, he was playing against the 2nds and 3rds. SS is still my man.

  340. WarriorNY November 10, 2012 4:22 pm

I’ve been behind SS for the entire year but I have to say Higgins will be starting QB next week…

  341. Jack Flash November 10, 2012 4:22 pm

Higgins > Shroeder. And now i got 2 free tacos! Chee hoo!!!!!

  342. MattO November 10, 2012 4:22 pm

Kona, did he drop it? Missed the replay

  343. azwarrior22 November 10, 2012 4:22 pm

The question is going to be asked in the post-game interview and Chow will say Schroeder is my QB 🙁

  344. Matt November 10, 2012 4:23 pm

He dropped it, but they gave us credit for the catch.

  345. KonaBoy November 10, 2012 4:23 pm

    Yep, bounced off the carpet…

  346. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 4:24 pm

So now does this prove that Graves should be playing? Nah, just stirring things up.

  347. MattO November 10, 2012 4:24 pm

Higgins also goes through his progressions. Just saying.

  348. markazulu November 10, 2012 4:24 pm

Just was interested with how everyone talks about Chows preference i wanna know.

  349. MattO November 10, 2012 4:25 pm

Lol. Matt/ Kona, they feel sorry for us

  350. Matt November 10, 2012 4:29 pm

Come on defense. Stop em, so the offense can score again.

  351. 3-Prong November 10, 2012 4:32 pm

    Higgins 75% completion. 117 yards.

  352. BowNatic November 10, 2012 4:32 pm

The world feels sorry for the UH football program.. LOL

  353. KonaBoy November 10, 2012 4:33 pm

Just want to see Higgins drive the o again, let’s go D.

  354. Matt November 10, 2012 4:34 pm

Higgins has more yards passing than SS. Higgins 9-12 for 117. SS 10-19 for 100 with one INT.

  355. KonaBoy November 10, 2012 4:34 pm

    Yay.

  356. mo808 November 10, 2012 4:34 pm

    Shacked!

  357. 3-Prong November 10, 2012 4:35 pm

    OK 2:00 drill.

  358. mo808 November 10, 2012 4:35 pm

    Picked 🙁

  359. KonaBoy November 10, 2012 4:37 pm

INT, Oh well… matt, the argument will be that he was playing against the 2nd team. I truly think though that he would do fine starting. Hoping Chow gives it a try.

  360. Matt November 10, 2012 4:39 pm

    What was the spread?

  361. mo808 November 10, 2012 4:39 pm

    Higgins to Hall 🙂

  362. Shoko November 10, 2012 4:40 pm

Boise covered the spread. It was 28 points.

  363. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 4:40 pm

    Colorado romped UNLV.

  364. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 4:40 pm

    Should be Colorado State.

  365. mo808 November 10, 2012 4:41 pm

    Trickeration! Game set match.

  366. mo808 November 10, 2012 4:42 pm

ND doing good! 21-3 3rd qtr 6:55 left

  367. Matt November 10, 2012 4:42 pm

Too bad if they scored a TD on that last drive, they would have been within 28 points.

  368. Shoko November 10, 2012 4:43 pm

Between Boise State, Fresno State and San Diego State sitting in a three-way tie, I would say the Aztecs are sitting nicely for at least a share of the MWC title. Boise State and Fresno State still have to play Nevada, which could give them another loss this season.

Nevada – Fresno game is up next!

  369. greenthumb November 10, 2012 4:45 pm

    Some promising moments.

  370. madeinhawaii November 10, 2012 4:46 pm

Thanks to Higgins, Chow’s FBS points per game average this season won’t dip too much… I think it’s 19.3, now.

  371. markazulu November 10, 2012 4:46 pm

    The defense played better today.

  372. markazulu November 10, 2012 4:51 pm

What do you have to lose by playing higgins?

  373. sockpupetmarkazulu November 10, 2012 4:51 pm

    huh, defense played better

  374. Matt November 10, 2012 4:52 pm

I thought the defense did okay today. They were put into some tough spots by the special teams with the BSU long punt return, the muffed punt by Harding, and the long run on the fake punt by BSU.

  375. Slugger November 10, 2012 4:53 pm

It was fun sitting with UHFan808.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  376. Shoko November 10, 2012 4:58 pm

Wonder if Chow will suspend Gregory one game after being ejected.

  377. Shoko November 10, 2012 5:00 pm

Chow said he will deal with Gregory severely for the infraction. Not sure what that means, but sure sounds like a suspension.

  378. Hank November 10, 2012 5:06 pm

Mahalo E Ke Akua Sean was taken out today…that young man has taken a tremendous beating this year and looked like he was playing with a mild concussion in the 3rd. Please let him rest.

  379. papajoe2 November 10, 2012 5:07 pm

Washington State receiver quit the team claiming abuse by coaching staff for degrading the players.

  380. North Face Realization Womens November 10, 2012 5:13 pm

Hey there, I think your site might be having browser compatibility issues. When I look at your blog site in Chrome, it looks fine but when opening in Internet Explorer, it has some overlapping. I just wanted to give you a quick heads up! Other then that, amazing blog!

  381. iwonderwhytheyhateme November 10, 2012 5:23 pm

    Turnstile count 24,000 tonight.

  382. kev-1 November 10, 2012 5:25 pm

    380 . . . Papajoe

Chow should send him a greeting card and include statistics of how many drops we have had this year. He will realize he could probably start immediately and transfer. Considering WSU’s coach’s history, he may be able to appeal for an NCAA exemption to play next year without sitting.

  383. kev-1 November 10, 2012 5:26 pm

IWWTHM . . . there were that many there? From the TV, I only counted 42 fans.

  384. Buffoman November 10, 2012 5:27 pm

Higgins looked really comfortable and confident in there.

  385. markazulu November 10, 2012 5:28 pm

    Norm Chow Press Conference

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kv6Ea1-vFtQ&feature=g-all-u

  386. kev-1 November 10, 2012 5:29 pm

Yes he did. I bet coach sticks with SS though. Maybe I should place an SAWARRIOR type wager on it.

  387. kev-1 November 10, 2012 5:37 pm

When will they start talking about Mariota as a Heisman candidate? That kid is unbelievable.

  388. JV November 10, 2012 5:41 pm

For the sake of the UH program I hope Chow retires at the end of the season!

  389. azwarrior22 November 10, 2012 5:43 pm

#382 – pretty sad, more empty seats than fans vs Boise State.

  390. Tazer November 10, 2012 6:05 pm

markazulu i can answer that question for you #373. The answer is somebody looses his pride and hope. I’m a fan and always be a fan even season ticket holder. And old people (not all)tend to not to make to many changes or style and are very stubborn. I will just hope next year few injured and more W.

But like some people said we are going to be a great team and win game’s and have real good quarterback. My thing is seeing is beliving and talk is cheap. So far it’s only talk and not a thing to show for.

  391. Tazer November 10, 2012 6:06 pm

    new topic

  392. MattO November 10, 2012 6:17 pm

Well… At least Chow is considering a QB change. Hope it’s not just lip service.

  393. kev-1 November 10, 2012 6:23 pm

Time to just have faith for the future instead of being pissed about the present. I am frustrated out already. I am excited about the youth on our defense. I mean, Marrel Jackson was all over the field on defense. He played one heck of a game, and he is a freshman. This season is a bust already, and has been for a while already. I am choosing to put my trust in Chow that he knows what he’s doing. Sure, he should have made a QB change a long time ago. But I accept that he has been trying to instill confidence in his starter. That is his style, so be it.

  394. kev-1 November 10, 2012 6:25 pm

Looks like I jinxed the Mariota for Heisman campaign. Mariota out with a shoulder injury. Not only that, they also lost Barner and their top safety.

  395. 3-Prong November 10, 2012 6:28 pm

Open competition? I thought the competition was over. Oh well.

Eh SAW, i was looking at the pre-election posts. Wager was only for 48 hours. What,……are you really in deep depression over not being able to post or is the election results? Inquiring minds want to know.

  396. Chicken Grease November 10, 2012 6:29 pm

    kev-1:

    November 10th, 2012 at 5:29 pm

Yes he did. I bet coach sticks with SS though. Maybe I should place an SAWARRIOR type wager on it.

Bwwhahaahhaaha. The heck he went off to? Was only supposed to be two (2) days, no? Think he went off to that alternate reality where The Political Beat blog (hosted by Senator Steven Tsai) exists.

Grease a big fan of believing in Coach Chow, letting him have his chance. In the case of SAWARRIOR . . . well . . . change the bet (or the betor, bwahahahhaahah). No be habuts SAWARRIOR, get on back hea, bet OVER alreadies.

  397. Chee! November 10, 2012 6:33 pm

    #382 – 24k @ turnstile….. AY SOOOS!!!

  398. kev-1 November 10, 2012 6:34 pm

Check that, Mariota and Barner back in. Scoring drive too. Mariota is one tough dude.

  399. Shoko November 10, 2012 6:41 pm

Thought I heard the announcer say there were very little to no bodies in the student section. Thats a very bad sign in terms of student support. Not very confident that will improve the rest of the season.

  400. obachan November 10, 2012 6:43 pm

Shogun Chow only now questioning his season long proclamation that SS is his QB. How much more evidence does he need?

  401. madeinhawaii November 10, 2012 6:46 pm

Maybe the 8600 with comp seats didn’t want to be singled out so they didn’t show up.

  402. madeinhawaii November 10, 2012 6:46 pm

Actually 24K is the lowest count since the Von Appen days… I’m not sure it even went that low during Von Appen’s tenure.

  403. RedZone November 10, 2012 6:47 pm

I like Schroeder and feel sad for him but I think he should be rested. I think he has taken one too many hits and it shows in how he plays. When I saw him get rocked earlier in the game I was hoping that Chow would have taken him out. I was worried for his health. You can’t take too many of those kinds of shots and not have it affect you later in life.

  404. RedZone November 10, 2012 6:49 pm

    We need Johnny Football.

  405. Kevin November 10, 2012 6:50 pm

Johnny Football? Im not even going to Google who or what that is. 😆 😆 😆

  406. Shoko November 10, 2012 6:52 pm

I think the only reason why Higgins was put into the game was to minimize the hits he was taking. Don’t feel Chow will take him out completely, but depending on how Schroeder feels, Higgins playing time might increase as the season continues.

  407. Ben A Lurker November 10, 2012 6:57 pm

seems likely there’s a rift in the team and new players and time will help

new coaches with a tight strong disciplinary approach in contrast with years of light oversight and a loose have fun atmosphere; perhaps subtle tension and push of my way the highway makes players that disagree or resist the pressure to play less enthused and QB takes more hits. i’m not saying i’m just saying.

check out this locker room meltdown at WSU with Leach. He called the effort “boardering on cowardice…” a few days ago. Today suspended star gives up and acused the coaches of abuse. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/8618108/marquess-wilson-washington-state-cougars-leaves-team-alleges-abuse-coaching-staff

i still like and expect Coach Coach to succeed but I have come around to see the stubborn streak. Like the team effort though. Like the change of QB. Defense is stout most of the time.

  408. Willie November 10, 2012 7:02 pm

If there is a replay check out 1st qtr play, 3rd & 3, Lister flares out of backfield, Shroeder follows him with his eyes all the way for 3 seconds. Whole Bronco defense got the advance telegraph of where the ball was going. Come on, stop making it so easy SS, look off the safeties & corner! Give the play a chance. This has been happening all season with SS’s eyes.

  409. Shoko November 10, 2012 7:09 pm

Well, Chow has definitely been an enigma this season. Seeing that this is his first time as a head coach, there is no reference that can be used in determining his thought process.

    Anyway, tomorrows another day.

    Night!

  411. manoa#1 November 10, 2012 7:14 pm

dumb ass chow about time u stubborn donkey.

  412. Green tea November 10, 2012 7:30 pm

Higgins can win games; not SS. Frustrating make dumb and predictable mistakes over and over again.

Last in the MWC… SS is a great back up QB.

  413. gobows November 10, 2012 7:32 pm

#378 at a minimum, grass rolls. which actually is not as bad (vs 1000 am) since they practice in the afternoon.

  414. PurpleMaple November 10, 2012 7:33 pm

“Johnny Football” is the nickname for Texas A&M quarterback, Johnny Manziel, the quarterback that beat Alabama today.

  415. PurpleMaple November 10, 2012 7:37 pm

Open the competition between Schroeder and Higgins? Did he watch a different game than the one I watched at Aloha Stadium today? Higgins clearly can move the offense when Sean is unable, incapable of doing. Open compeition, the man must live on a different planet.

  416. gobows November 10, 2012 8:12 pm

just because ss can’t move his feet, he runs very slow, and he likes to throw the ball so that the defenders have a chance to make a play that doesn’t mean he’s not capable of winning games. i bet any of you if they played damien, kalani, waialua, kalaheo, and even lanakila baptist, ss would lead the team to victory. hey, he did it against lamar.

  417. gobows November 10, 2012 8:15 pm

chow is just setting the table so he can have one of those “greatest turn around” years under his belt. you know 1 win this year, 10 wins next.

  418. gobows November 10, 2012 8:17 pm

#412 confused…is he dumb or stubborn?

  419. Ben A Lurker November 10, 2012 8:28 pm

    Fresno 52 Nevada 36

  420. bob November 10, 2012 8:51 pm

At least Chow is willing to consider using Higgens instead of SS. The way I look at it–is that we really have nothing to lose by giving Higgins a shot. And there is not question that Higgins is “better at extending the play” with his legs when the pass protection breaks down than SS. Chow should play Higgins and if he doesn’t work out then it will show that SS was the right choice.

  421. madeinhawaii November 10, 2012 8:52 pm

Wow .. Fresno beat Nevada… Fresno is really tough this year… I guess they are over the Hill now… Got to give them a Pat on the back for that.

  422. kev-1 November 10, 2012 8:52 pm

I want to see a QB change, and have been hoping for one for a long time. However, this could back fire on Chow. He has stubbornly waited until the last few weeks of the season to make this change after stating over and over again that SS was his guy and the best QB we had and the guy who gives us the best chance to win. If Higgins goes in and wins ONE game, heck, even if he doesn’t but actually leads the team to scoring drives, Chow will look bad for not doing it earlier.

If I were him (and this is not what I want in the least), I would leave in SS, just so I wouldn’t be made out to look bad in case Higgins does good.

  423. Bryson November 10, 2012 9:06 pm

Even if he was playing against 2nd and 3rd team players Higgins definetly has more pocket presence then SS. I paid close attention to see differences between the two while they both have slow releases Higgins goes through his progressions which SS hasn’t done on a consistent basis,Higgins also has a stronger arm and is more accurate so I really do hope that Chow really does open the competition and is not just saying that to appease the fan base.

  424. gobows November 10, 2012 9:17 pm

#423 are you saying chow doesn’t look bad? I was convinced at the nevada game that he sucked. he is winless against fbs teams. if you don’t believe your eyes, how about these stats. 104th passing, 109th rushing, 106th scoring, and 123rd (dead last) in points against. usually good running teams have bad passing stats. on the flip side good passing teams have weak running games. Hawaii has bad passing and bad running and their lack of scoring is wearing the defense thin, not to mention the turnovers. plainly the Hawaii football team sucks. and it’s mostly coaching. they weren’t close to this bad last year. i don’t care how many key defensive players they lost.

  425. gobows November 10, 2012 9:19 pm

good thing chow didn’t sell his house on the mainland. 3 or 4 years tops.

  426. Bryson November 10, 2012 9:21 pm

I still want to know what kind of special power the BSU lineman had when he knocked the ball out of SS’s hand in the 4th quarter from 5 yrds away….

  427. Tazer November 10, 2012 9:21 pm

bob read the topic and below. Higgens might not be the starter. But might get more playing time. Chow never said where he would open competition, partice or on game day???? But like you said at the end is true. Like Rolo being bench for Chang. It realy work out well for Rolo. Rolo ask other player what he was doing wrong and ask for help. Even some other quarterbacks and other players UH had over the years, where bench and came back strong.

  428. kev-1 November 10, 2012 9:23 pm

gobows . . . absolutely not. I absolutely think there should be a QB change and that Chow does look bad for his handling of the situation. What I am saying is he is giving people the chance to say “I told you so” if Higgins is successful. If he were to stick it out with SS for the rest of the year, his ego could continue to tell people that he knows better. Trust me, I’m not blind.

  429. kev-1 November 10, 2012 9:31 pm

If Graham really is the guy next year, then whoever is anticipated to be the back up next year should get the rest of the snaps this season.

A coach can’t even get one season to try and put in his system before people start calling for him to be fired?

  430. madeinhawaii November 10, 2012 9:37 pm

Ikaika Woolsey may be the backup.. but he can’t take the snaps as he is redshirting.

  431. cocobean November 10, 2012 9:38 pm

Was at the game. Disappointed at the number of fans that showed up.

Out O lline is still a bunch of puppies. They were taken to school by the Boise D. They’re probably one of the youngest, least experienced O lines in the country. Their day will come.

Chow is trying. Every week he comes up with a bunch of new plays run out of differenct formations. Took every few snaps from under center today.

Don’t know what Gregory was thinking. Love Joey but we needed Gregory’s quickness to compliment Joey’s power. Boise stuiffed every draw play and slants off tackle.

HIGGINS. He doesn’t have a stronger arm or quicker release than SS. He might be a little more mobile but not by much. What he does do is not hold the ball as long and takes more chances down field. He’s shown me MORE PLAY MAKING ABILITY.

  432. Derek November 10, 2012 9:40 pm

Anybody can see that a mobile QB with escapability and accuracy is tough to beat. The undefeated teams all have that in Mariota, Klein, and Golston. Well, maybe Golston’s accuracy isn’t that great, but you have to keep in mind he’s a redshirt freshman. And Texas A&M’s Johnny “Football” Manziel is also a redshirt freshman, as well as Mariota. All, Manziel did was beat Alabama. UH doesn’t have that. Schroeder can’t run to save his soul. Higgins runs a little better. Don’t know if Taylor Graham has legs, but I know that Aaron Zwahlen runs very fast and can do it with his feet and throw well. I think he’s the future for UH. I hope Chow understands that this is the 21st century, and college is not for drop back QBs. The defense is just too athletic nowadays. Like I said, you have to go to the spread offense. You have to score at least around 35 points or more average per game to give you a chance to win. We’re not going to get top defensive talent to stop people less than 20 points per game on most days. Heck, right now UH is giving up close of 48 points to Division I opponents.

  433. madeinhawaii November 10, 2012 9:45 pm

The mobile QB adds a 12th man to the field… that makes it harder to double up on a key player. When the mobile QB doesn’t telegraph his intended target, the Defense cannot take their eyes off of him and that can help the receivers to juke and get separation, too.

  434. madeinhawaii November 10, 2012 9:46 pm

Oops… 11th man…. sorry… with an immobile QB.. the Defense worries less about where the QB might end up and can concentrate on their target responsibility…

  435. cocobean November 10, 2012 9:51 pm

    Air Force is beatable.

Coach. Game plan with Higgins in mind just as you did when you were forced to use a third stringer last year. I’m sure you can come up with something tailored to his strenghts. Also, don’t be too harsh with Gregory. We need a one-two punch at running back.

    Coach. Play your PLAY MAKERS.

Coach. I still no kill fight with you.

  436. kev-1 November 10, 2012 9:52 pm

  438. madeinhawaii November 10, 2012 10:00 pm

    HEY! Congratulations to Mike Edwards!!!

In the loss, kickoff returner Mike Edwards recorded his third touchdown of the season – a 100-yarder in the first quarter – setting a new UH single-season and career return record. The junior from Cleveland, Ohio broke the previous mark of two held by Chad Owens and Malcolm Lane.

An awesome post, I just passed this onto a fellow worker who was doing a little analysis on this. And he in fact bought me lunch because I found it for him smile.. So let me reword that: Thanks for the treat! But yeah Thnkx for taking the time to discuss this, I feel strongly about it and love learning more on this topic. If possible, as you gain expertise, would you mind updating your blog with more details? It is extremely helpful for me. Big thumb up for this post!

Know this does not matter, but outside of a severe tongue lashing….Will Gregory needs nothing else. You can not drive a team to any further depths. The defense played an inspired game even though constantly put in bad situations. Boise even though 49 points, they knew they were in a game. Joey is going to have some great days ahead. This O line has to dedvelop some emotion and finish….Higgins has the strangest passing thrwing motion but is mobile and capable…..if we are to salvage anything…..providing the injury list is not too great….I think it is possible to win the last three but not with the current “starting” line-up. I believe in doing whatever you have to do to win, and that may deviate from your ideal approach…..great saying….do not let perfection stand in the way of improvement!!!!

  456. just saying November 11, 2012 4:51 am

Hope chow gives Higgins a chance to start next week, sean shroeder seems to be getting worse, maybe because of all the beatings hes been taking, but I have to question chows ability to evaluate the quaterback situation, being he is highly reguarded quaterback guru. Too me, higgins is way better than shroeder , yet chow says he has a hard decision to make in reguards to who starts next week. Is it that hard to give another quaterback a chance to start, because if higgins starts, will he be given the same status as shroeder ,where he will be the starter the rest of the year no matter how he plays .I think chows philosophy of who starts shouldve been decided through actual game time play, like most of the coaches, who changes quaterbacks to get the offense going. We also will never know how graves wouldve played since he never had a chance to play.If I was being recruited by chow for quaterback, I would not want to play for chow if I know that the starting job would not be decided by competition.

If Chow decides to start Higgins, I hope its against Air Force and not some paltry team like UNLV or South Alabama. Give Higgins the big test and see how he stacks up against a decent team.

“Sean” must be the kiss of death to Warrior football because Schroeder wasn’t the only Sean to stink it up yesterday.

Sean Shigematsu was bad last year, bad this year, bad again vs Boise in another dismal effort to keep Hawai’i QBs clean. If Shigematsu can’t protect any better than he has (even holding penalties are better than untouched sacks resulting in turnovers), they’ll be suiting up Ikaika before the season ends. It’s a miracle no one’s gotten hurt.

I guess we can keep pinning our hopes on Chow bringing in “his” players. Meaning….players that want to play for him and his system. Because it is certainly apparent that this current crew does not. No matter what adjustments or new plays he puts forth, same devastating (non) results. Teams on seemingly “down” years like Boise racks up 35 by halftime. Junk teams like Colorado State look like champs. All opposing teams highlights come at the expense of UH. This Chow era can’t end soon enough.

    BIK
